You want a real Brooklyn type Italian place - look no further

By cybertraveler |

Great bar - great traditional Italian gangster type place - everything you can imagine that would make you feel like you are in a movie - this is it. And the food - just plain excellent Italian. You won't be sorry with this one.

Fun Place for Dining in North Beach

By Sloped_Bench |

Since Sodini's is a few blocks off of Columbus St., you don't get the heavy traffic like other restaurants. When we visited on an early Sunday evening it was busy but we were able to be seated immediately. The atmosphere is fun. It's noisy but not loud so it's a very social environment. The walls are red, there are the expected photos of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin and the decor is comfortable worn. The clientele was very mixed. There were couples, groups and families. Our food was great. The son 19 year old son ordered a small margarita pizza and barely finished half of it... but enjoyed it thoroughly. The daughter had gnocchi and pesto (gnocchi stuffed with ricotta and spinach) and thought it was fabulous and confirmed by the wife. I went with Penne Con Gamberi (I switched out the penne for linguini) and it was unbelievably great. They have a nice beer selection (We're in SF so it's always Anchor Steam) and a limited but wide variety of wines. They also have a full bar which appears to be a good place to pull up a stool and relax. Service was great! Waitresses were very efficient and fun. The women running the bar couldn't have been faster and the pours were very generous. It's only a few blocks from Coit Tower so a challenging uphill walk to take in the sunset and view is a nice way of helping digest.

Great spot

By oharasteph |

We were wandering around trying to find somewhere to eat when we found this busy Italian restaurant. We were lucky to get a table immediately as most people had to queue. Tables are very close together but it only adds to the atmosphere. Great food.

Loved my chicken parmigiana!!!

By Ashley.cat |

Heard about this place from a local....went 30 min after they opened on a Tuesday night. It was pretty empty at the time. Got a table right away. Got the polenta which was recommended....hard to say if it was the best since it was the first time I've had it but I do have to say it was good. The chicken parm was so thin and tasty, maybe the best I've had. Hubby got the lasagna which was also good. Cesar salad was drenched with dressing but still good. Didn't realize there would be anchovies on it though....staff were friendly...glad we went there.

Maybe they had a bad day

By AJS-NY |

So we were going to eat at Sotto Mare only to find out it was closed that evening so we went up the street a bit to Sodini's. The place looks genuine from the outside so we went in. We were immediately met by a gracious host and taken to a table. Service was spot on. They brought bread and olive oil. The bread was cold. I ordered the pasta with mussels and clams and it taste like something out of a can. They also brought a piece of garlic bread about 1 inch by 4 inches and that too was cold. The flavor was just not anywhere to be found. My wife had fried calamari which was OK at best. Highly disappointing meal. Later on we found out from the hotel's concierge that Sodini's is really a pizzeria and that everything else was hit or miss. Not my favorite place.

Excellent food; buzzy/busy atmosphere; friendly service; fair prices

By ReviewingHero |

My wife and I wandered in (upon a friend's recommendation) on a Friday evening at about 8:30pm, without reservation. The place was buzzy and packed. We were invited to sit at the bar and expect a table in '30-45 mins'. Brilliantly we were seated in about 5-10 mins. The meal was excellent, and service very friendly. Diners were a mix of couples and groups. The atmosphere was rather romantic, actually. We would return if ever in San Fransisco. Thanks.

Sodini's doesn't like solo diners

By bikearound |

Do not go there if you want to dine solo. Although considered a neighborhood trattoria, they have gotten used to large groups of tourists and treat single diners like bums. The bartender gave me a cursory look and told me there was an hour wait, even though there were empty tables and plenty of seats at the bar. I almost left but then I asked why I can't be seated at the bar and she relented. The restaurant continued to be half empty so clearly lack of seating was not an issue but the experience of having a night out by myself was soured by the dismissive attitude. Single-ism is a thing in eating establishments, and there's no excuse for it. Too bad Sodini's is one of those. My money is going elsewhere in the future.

Best atmosphere, staff & food!

By Ela B |

I visited a few months ago and absolutely loved this place. There aren't reservations, but the staff was very accommodating to make us feel at home while we waited. I would highly recommend this meal for price point because the quality of their food is top notch! I had the pesto ravioli and loved it though it could have maybe used a bit less sauce. Thanks Sodini's! I'll be back!

Left after 15 minutes of non-service.

By Ernie S |

To be fair, it was St. Patrick's night. Yet, we still were promtply seated. Then the wait began. Even though there were open tables, our server was in and out making chit-chat, and the busser was dropping of water then bread, our orders were never taken. The priority seemed to be the patrons drinking for the night. We left, likely not to return or to recommend.

Authentic and Sassy

By FM52 |

Honest Homestyle Italian cooking. Staff is attentive work lots of personality. Comfort food galore. Just do it!

Family dinner

By Sue S |

Was recommended by our tour driver, Dylan's tours, and did not disappoint. Dinner was good, quick, reasonably priced and the service was great. It was fun to eat outside on the street. Reminded me of Europe. Very casual place. We walked there after a visit to Coit Tower.

Fun dining experience

By cpalguta |

Great dining experience! Everyone there, from the hostess, to the bartender, to our server welcomed us and made us feel at home. Great prices, very fun atmosphere.

Great Old Italian PLace in SF

By Rick B |

We went here looking for a place to eat after walking up and down Columbus Avenue IN SF doing some shopping. This place hit the spot. We got there between lunch and dinner so it wasn't terribly busy yet. We ordered and had great mussels as an appetizer and then excellent pastas. By the time we left the place was packed and there was a long line to get in. If you are looking for old school classic Italian pasta that would make Frank Sinatra happy, then this is the place to go to.

Atmosphere great; food ick.

By Toni B |

This cute restaurant in North Beach has great fun atmosphere and should be terrific. Unfortunately the food brings it down to a 3. I love a busy, noisy vibe. I don’t mind waiting for food or service. I get it’s busy with tourists. But when I order pizza in an Italian restaurant it should taste good. The “thin” crust was thick and doughy. I sent it back to be cooked more. 1/2 hour later it arrived again and was so bland and chewy it was awful. The chicken Marsala was also uninspiring. We liked the Caesar salad and it was nicely chilled. I wanted to like this restaurant but I’ll not be returning. Too many other good choices in North Beach.

I wish I lived up the street

By Tswdfm |

This is a neighborhood restaurant that is not expensive. It is the kind of place that, if you lived nearby, you would be a regular. Very friendly staff. Good food. Good value. Great location in North Beach. Service was warm and friendly.

Old school food and feel - great quality

By Joshua T |

We walked in to the last table with out a wait at 6:30. Service throughout the night was prompt and very pleasant. They have a very good and affordable wine selection. The meal options are also plentiful. Our meals we serve piping hot. The pasta was very fresh. The quantity of servings is perfect. And the flavours are great. Best Italian we can remember having. A great recommendation from a friend who live in the area a decade ago. There is good reason Sodini’s has thrived for so many years.

Our Go To restaurant in North Beach.

By Richard W |

There are many "Italian" restaurants in North Beach--the original Italian neighborhood in SF, but Sodini's, also known as Green Valley to many, is one of the original. It has maintained its culture, its menu, the quality and authenticity. Prices are very fair, service is wonderful--you feel like you are being served by your mom! We never miss going here when in the City. Also take some time to walk around this old neighborhood and enjoy the smells of the kitchens.

Great food / not fancy / perfect place

By roc585nation |

Perfect family-ran feel Italian joint. Big portions and great atmosphere. Stumbled upon the place in Little Italy and lucked out. Exactly what I was looking for - an Italian place not trying to be fancy but serves up great food. If I'm ever in the area again I'll be back. Not a lot of tables, so have a cocktail at the bar and relax while you're waiting.

Charming, authentic Italian food!

By tracesmom24 |

What a charming authentic Italian little treasure! We walked in off the street hoping for a table and got lucky to get in. It was the perfect little restaurant for Valentine’s Day. It was small and busy. The host was so pleased and accommodating. Will definitely go back when we visit San Francisco again!!

Come here with a big appetite!!!!!!!!!!!

By John A |

Soldini's is an Italian restaurant. the portions are huge, therefore, when you order a salad, be prepared, they are huge. I usually share it with my wife, as it is too much for one person. The atmosphere is like visiting an Italian family. Food and more food. You can take left overs with you. We always do, as there is too much food.

Wife Birthday

By F T |

Very attentive service once you get seated. This place is right out of the Sopranos.....see the host taking names.love it!!! Key point for those new, it doesn't take reservations. Once you get your name on list, stay right there or at the bar. Do not leave even if the host takes a cell phone # Food and wine very good

Non-Trendy Italian

By Scott S |

Loved this family style place. After having highly rated trendy Italian we decide to go old school and weren’t disappointed. Friendly atmosphere and delicious pastas abound. Bruschetta, lasagna, and gnocchi were wonderful. Reasonably priced Italian wines also a plus. If you are a foodie looking for new combinations of vegan, truffle lasagna this is not your place. Shoutout to Erin with outstanding, friendly service.

Dining from another time

By 585MCR |

Strolling around San Francisco we stumbled upon Sodini's. It was about 9 pm and the place was packed, but there happened to be one open table and the friendly bartender invited us to take it. Once inside, we felt like we were transported to another era! Sodini's feels homey with a lot of personality, in the best Italian family restaurant kind of way. We were seated in a curved banquet at the end of the bar, surrounded by photos of celebrity diners. The service was terrific - professional but really warm and familiar. We shared a delicate and flavorful cannelloni, delicious pesto ravioli, and a pepper steak with cream sauce that was heavenly. Getting to Sodini's was a stroke of luck -- next time we will make a reservation!

Large portions

By Richard T |

We were recommended to go here by a server at another restaurant. Nice atmosphere, decent menu. Server forgot which table had ordered what meals. Meal portions were just too large. Seafood linguini was not too impressive, calamari was rather chooey! So many restaurants to choose from so we tried others which were better.

Great surprise

By Carlos B |

Went here based on internet comments on different websites. Small place and crowded on weekends. Service is good. Excelent food. Delicious! At least I can say on my personal experience, never had a better cannelloni in my life. 100% recommended.

Very Good!!

By Moneganp |

We stumbled upon this place and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere is great and the food just as good. The house salad was very impressive and unique. We loved the meal and strongly recommend this place.

Delicious food and excellent service!

By LAMR |

Well, it was kind of foolish of us to wander out on a Friday night in San Francisco without making reservations anywhere! We happened upon Sodini's,liked the menu, and stepped inside to see if we could get a table. We were told it would be about 45 minutes for a table inside on that chilly evening, BUT if we were willing to sit outside under the heaters, we could be seated right away. We said yes, and were quickly set up with a table under a heater and were immediately greeted by the absolute most wonderful waitress! My husband ordered the chicken parmigiana, which came with a side of pasta AND either a soup or salad. He chose the salad, and I have to say it was the largest "included" salad I have ever seen! I ordered the Angel Hair North Beach pasta, which had sundried tomatoes in it, and my daughter ordered minestrone soup and meatballs. We ordered wine by the glass as well. We were given a nice, large basket of bread, and many refills of our water. The food was excellent, and the tomato sauce on the chicken and the pastas was GREAT! We have been to several North Beach restaurants, and we felt that this food was among the best we have had. But, again, you really couldn't beat the great service that we received! By the time we were finished with dinner, there were others seated outside under the heaters and more people waiting for tables. Okay, so next time, I will make a reservation, but many thanks to Sodini's for coming up with a solution to seat us right away. We truly enjoyed the entire experience! We will be back!

Friendly

The food tasted great and all of our meals were a generous size. The waitstaff were friendly, attentive and helpful.

Excellent Italian food

By Linda J |

Went to dinner here last night with 2 girlfriends. This restaurant is owned by one of my friend's cousin. The food was outstanding, as was the service. Fun, fun, fun. If you are in San Francisco, treat yourself. Also, great alcoholic beverages.

Sorry, but honestly, this

By Juan G |

Sorry, but honestly, this was not that good. The Calamari was terrible. It almost tasted like it was supermarket frozen section food ( for $25). The lasagna was ok, not great. My wife had the raviolis and she said the same. Kids had pizza which they enjoyed. The best part was the atmosphere and the host who was great. Brought us out drinks while we waited for our table. Maybe I’m spoiled being from Chicago where the Italian food options and flavors are like being in Italy.

Authentic, good, inexpensive

By daniel N |

Charming little place, lots of character. Good very good. Prices reasonable. Servers like your mom, warm and welcoming. Highly recommend.

This was a great meal and night out

By Chris G |

This was one of the best Italian meals I have ever had. After 3 nights in San Fran I stumbled on this place. Rachel our host was the best. Recommending the right meal, beer wine and serving sizes. (I hoped I tipped her well enough). When in North Beach go straight there for a meal and ask for Rachel to look after you. The pizza and pasta were perfect. Thanks for a great night. 5 stars

Love to come back here!

By dlitton |

Great food. Family owned and operated and you can tell. Love the lasagna. Husband had the special that day which was a salmon pasta and he said it was one of the best he has ever had. It hit the spot!

Family Perfect

By Clarabelle441 |

Pasta and Pizza were wonderful. The atmosphere is wonderfully North Beach casual. Wine list was perfect with the menu. We can't wait to go back.

Good old fashioned Italian

By Topolli |

Crowded and noisy but the smell of great Italian dishes from the busy kitchen was incredible. We both ordered gnocchi dishes which were delicious. Didn't have room for more! Waitress seemed a little distracted and not too friendly but food worth a return visit.

Great North Beach neighborhood Italian experience

By B-P |

On a Sunday evening I walked through the main entrance entering the bar area and was greeted by several very friendly patrons enjoying themselves, spoke with a waitress for a table and was seated promptly at a cozy two person table, back to the wall and facing the bar (people watching). They seated several parties of 2, 4 and 5 people throughout my meal and none seemed to have to wait very long. Looking to my right is a big picture window looking out onto Green St. and to the left across the dining room you can watch the open kitchen hard at work. I started with a basic but well prepared house salad, some bread and butter and then tucked into my Linguine With Meatballs with tomato meat sauce. Meatballs tasted homemade and pasta prepared fresh. I just stopped in for a quick and hearty meal and left very satisfied.

Fun Atmosphere and Great Meal

By Marna Munsell |

Enjoyed a delicious meal at Sodini's with friends. Service was great and the food was full of flavor. Good drinks, as well. Can't wait to go back!

The best female bartender I've seen in a long time.

By Robert B |

A quaint, family resturant that is a big hit for the local community. Drinks are large, service is excellent without being over polished, food is plentful and there are many choices. I was surprised with the quality of the food and went with a fellow NP and her just retired Police Officer husband and we choose to eat at the bar. It was a fun evening.

OMG

By Ashleigh10 |

This was our best and least expensive meal during our five day holiday. Expect a wait. Fresh ingredients and solid service.

Lucky to have stumbled upon

By Lauren E |

I can't say enough good stuff about this place- the cuisine rivals the homeland. There are 1,000,000 restaurants in San Francisco- you won't regret choosing this one!

Sodini is a good place to share a cocktail with a friend. The bartenders makes a great drink.

By Mobile52068030271 |

I live locally and always enjoy a meal at Sodini's. The staff goes out if their way to make dinner a great experience. Good place to bring out of town guest. Thin crust pizza is the best.

Nice ...but

By Globalgypsymike |

The place is steeped in history.... we went here because the Seafood Place three doors down was full. The Pizza's were really very disappointing. We left it after two pieces and went around the corner for dessert.... Lovely decor and should be awesome but nah...skip it.

Excellent atmosphere and food

By driftwood1984 |

Calamari was the best I've ever had. Staff were friendly and had great recommendations for Itallian liquers.

Great Service

By Tom H |

This was a great place. On a busy night, they got us in, outside on a patio. It was cool so the heater helped. Our waitress (name?) short and tattooed was simply amazing. She made the night. Service was great and we loved the food. It was a fun, happening place to be in Little Italy for us Canadians on a Big West Coast Adventure.

Authentic and delicious

By TravelingJane22 |

Came here because a local friend suggested. I'm from New York, so I'm wary of Italian food done poorly. This was great. Had gnocchi with a pesto-cream sauce, garlic bread and a side of vegetables just to attempt to have something light. All were delicious, and the gnocchi was amazing. I ate at a lot of the best restaurants during my trip, but Sodini's competed with all of them. Not a huge menu, but classic food done well.

Good Service, Poor Food and Drink

By GoldenMole2000 |

The waitress looked after us, but unfortunately the pasta sauce mostly tasted of tomato puree and when asked for a Moretti beer a watery substitute was served. Standards are being allowed to slip in the kitchen and bar.

Amazing, give it a try

By Queen Bee007 |

Visited on a recommendation from a local Bartender. Glad we did…. the welcome was amazing. Didn’t even have to open the door, we were given a warm welcome. Seated quickly by the amazing Linda who was attentive with being intrusive. Best pesto I have ever tasted, wanted to eat it by the spoon! Service makes this Restaurant an excellent experience. Thank you to all including Casey and the guy on the door (sorry didn’t get his name although myself and my Husband named him Tony) for making us feel so welcome.

Limited veggie options but delicious pasta.

By PomAussie |

I was encouraged to eat here by a police officer! The menu was large - but not too much for a veggie so I asked what the server would suggest. I went for a thin pasta dish with a tomato and bail sauce. Very "American" take on Italian, not like Europe but very nice. Large plate with a slice of garlic bread and a side of bread and oil.

Epic!

By Mateo P |

Out of this world food, terrific service. Very good priced. The waitresses are so fun and friendly. Try de pesto filled gnocci they are said to be "pillows of heaven".

Best lasagne I've tasted

By Tracey R |

This restaurant was pointed out to us on one of the walking tours so we decided to give it a try. On arriving it had a great feel. The staff were super friendly even though it felt like we were walking into a neighbourhood local. Food portions were good without being overwhelming. Would definitely visit again.

Been here twice during our visit to San Fran. Authentic Italian cuisine, they even put up with me drunk but well behaved One night. Good great staff, good and atmosphere friendly Highly recommend. Aussie Aussie Aussie

Great choice!

By Susan S |

As tourists we were overwhelmed by the choice of Italian restaurants to choose from so we asked for a recommendation from a friendly bartender. They definitely pointed us in the right direction. Sodini's was just what we were looking for, authentic, historic and down to earth. The food was delicious and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We were there for them opening and the place soon filled up so that speaks for itself.

They treat you better than family!

By Chris M |

I’ve dined at Sodini’s with my wife (and again last night with our son for his 2nd trip to SF) countless times and we always look forward to the experience. I totally, but respectfully, disagree with “Golfhawk007s” review about the food quality. (Perhaps that was a bad night in the kitchen.) We’ve always been happy with the quality, presentation and flavours of the food. That said, Sodini’s isn’t cutting edge or trendy; it’s just a friendly old school neighbourhood joint feeding locals and tourists alike. The staff have been there forever and they are super welcoming. I grew up around Canadian-Italians and the folks running Sodini’s remind me of the way my friends and their families treat people. Eating at Sodini’s is like stepping into someone’s home; it’s warm, cozy and smells great with all that good Italian food waiting to be savoured! For those people looking for an elegant dining experience, then take a pass on Sodini’s because that’s not what they’re offering nor are they pretending to do. There’s countless other spots in San Francisco for that type of experience. But if you want to feel treated like family or a neighbor, then look no further than Sodini’s Green Valley Restaurant. I hope they stay around forever!

Amazing food, great place!

By doug k |

We enjoyed this little restaurant .. found by accident while looking for something else. But, we are glad we stayed. The Chicken Marsala was amazing, and proportioned right. My wife loved her gnocchi. We did end up taking some leftovers to a homeless person around the corner, which we hope was helpful. Prices were reasonable, and a great value overall. If we can ever return to San Francisco, this would be on the short list of places to go.

Nice place. Relaxing family atmosphere!

By Mrs_Mazk |

We went here on our last night in San Francisco. The food was good and the wine pours were generous. What more can you ask for? The restaurant is small and seems to fill up pretty fast so I would go early to get a table. The staff are very warm and make you feel comfortable. They were very good with kids.

Possibly the worst pizza I have ever eaten

By Roger O'Donnell |

Couldn't get in to Tonys, or rathe didnt want to sit outside in 50f temperatures and found this place. Looked good but the pizza was probably the worst I have ever eaten, worse than frozen, the dough was like cardboard and the toppings??? Oh boy , do yourself a favour and by the way having a gun on the t shirt, not cool AT ALL.

Great pastas and friendly staff!

By GRS-SJS |

Great, fun, friendly atmosphere. Started with a huge, fresh house salad along with a nice bottle of Toscana. Then came the gnocchi's, "pillows from heaven"! We had the gorgonzola with mushrooms and the meat sauce, both were great. The staff was interactive and helpful with menu ideas which made the meal fun. Take time to check out the art work. We'll be back!

Really authentic italian restaurant

By aspdav2015 |

This is a great italian restaurant and as popular with locals as tourists. North beach is a great place for italian food generally and Sodini's is one of its best. If you don't want to miss out, or queue for ages, get there early as you can't reserve a table.

It`s a must!!!!!!

By t-pott72 |

Visited here during a recent stay in San Francisco and what a night we had. Nothing was too much for them as i am a very fussy eater. The food was amazing and the service was exceptional. Stayed behind after the meal mixing with the locals having a good time. Would visit this restaurant again if i`m ever back in San Francisco.

Old school Italian delicious chicken parm

By Jen R |

Classic North Beach spot w a full bar, Sinatra playing and an extensive menu of classic Italian American dishes. Recommend the tortilini carbonara and chicken parmesan. Enough leftovers for lunch the next day. Good selection of Italian red wines. Great service with lots of character.

Best Italian bar none

By caserini |

This swanky little hole in the wall still has the same great decor from decades ago, but all of it just adds to the charm. On one side is the bar and the other you're crammed into tiny tables. Do NOT let any of this detract from your visit because the food is incredible! Best clam pizza I've ever had along with the best polenta (outside of my ex mother-in-law). The clam linguini is also to die for. The atmosphere + great food = best restaurant. Thanks, Sodini's.

One of the best meals ever

By Silverwoods |

I had eaten here one other time back in 2002, I had a great experience then so if given the opportunity i wanted to bring my wife. Thankfully my positive experience was relived! This is a cozy, quaint and loud SF dining experience. Authentic is the word i would use. It is not pretensions at all so if you are expecting fine dining and waiters wearing black tuxedos this is not the place for you. To start they bring out fresh bread and incredible California olive oil and balsamic vinegar. For my main, i had the best seafood pasta ever. Huge portion, fresh homemade pasta and tons of local, fresh seafood. Amazing! Of course we had red wine to go with our meals. The price for the meal was reasonable and we only waited 20 minutes. Overall an excellent dining experience.

Decent Italian food and good service

By Eileen_Cos_10 |

We ate at Sodini's on a Saturday night in mid-May since we were staying at a nearby apartment. The service was good and the portions were generous. I had linguine with meatballs and meat sauce. It seemed a bit strange to have meat sauce and meatballs at the same time. I didn't like the meatball flavor--not enough spices for me, but the meat sauce was good. The decor was a bit corny with some figurines of Frank Sinatra and his buddies. Overall all four of us liked our dishes.

Delizioso!

By Shannon M |

We came across this place while wandering the Italian District (North Beach area). Wow, what a great find! It’s small, dark, and oh so yummy. We shared the calamari which was light and airy and crunchy good. My niece and I shared the angel hair pasta with meat sauce and it was as you’d expect, but great portion to split. My hubby loved the seafood pasta. It was huge and full of big chunks of seafood and broth and pasta. He is still raving about it days later. It was a very hot week in SF, they had the windows open, it was late evening so it managed to be breezy inside, everyone was nice and helpful. It deserves a visit! Pack an appetite! Yummy!

A Classic!

By Jim E |

A classic! At the bar or in the dining room you'll be surrounded by friendly locals. This neighborhood favorite is a great place to stop by for a drink and conversation at the bar, or to eat a great dinner in the dining room or the outside tables. Or, eat at the bar! See you there!

Best Italian in San Fran!

By Ashley G |

We were on our honeymoon in San Fran and was recommended Sodini's. This place is amazing. From the moment you walk in your are made to feel welcome, the staff are so friendly and lovely. Think Tony Soprano!!!!! Real Italian feel to the place. The food is delicious! The décor is great. Overall this place is a must! Great street as well as the bars near by are great and lively.

MY "Favourite Italian Restaurant" in my favourite city

By HildaW52 |

Visited Sodini's, 1st time in '97, 2nd time in '09, 3rd time April '17. Each time IT was "Sodini's" TIME. Enough said.

Lovely Italian-American family restaurant

By Stephanie B |

Sodini's is everything you would want from a nice Italian-American family restaurant. The food was great, portions huge, service super friendly and capable and the price was very satisfactory.

Simple but delicious old Italian food

By Shirley X |

We went there late in the evening around 9:30 on a Saturday. We got seated quickly. Served a half a loaf of sourdough bread to dip in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. We ordered a simple pesto needle noodle dish and a stuffed pasta. They were so good and satisfying. The supper in total was $54 USD. A little bit pricey for the food we ordered. But they tasted great.

Get a martini and wait for a table

By Michael V |

Love the martinis here. No reservations available so plan on a couple of drinks beforehand. I have tried the majority of the menu and only thing I can't reccomend is the calamari. Opt for the steamed mussels to start and veal scallopini. Service here is genuine and treat you like family. You just can't find many places like this left in North Beach let alone the US.

Neighborhood Italian food in North Beach (3.5 stars)

By JRrolls |

This is a neighborhood bar and restaurant, a convenient (uphill) walk from Fisherman's Wharf (took us about 20 minutes). The bar is small and clearly a local hangout. The bartender knew everyone who sat down. We drank wine and ate delicious cheesy garlic bread while we eavesdropped on all the local drama. Eventually we moved into the cozy dining room and enjoyed traditional Italian entrees. Tasty and very generous sizes (split the house salad - it's enormous). Our food server was very good and pleasant. This is a casual, kind of noisy place to go when your feet get tired from sightseeing - no frills, no dress code. Would be fine for children. I'm giving it a 3.5 star rating.

What a nice surprise

By Freewally1 |

We took a chance in a rustic establishment and what a great result. Tasty food reasonably priced with a great vibe and service.

Amazing food

By Jo H |

We were recommended this place by a local Uber driver and glad we went! Traditional Italian feel, staff attentive and friendly and the food was the best we have had in a long while. The pizza was phenomenal and the ravioli was amazing. Also the garlic bread is a must! You wouldn’t want dessert if it was available!

Just perfect - exceeded expectations

By Karori_Angus |

We were looking for a non-touristy place for dinner in Little Italy and thought Sodinis looked worth a point. OMG! Super friendly staff made us feel at home and this was clearly a popular place for San Franciscans. I had gnocchi and it's worth traveling from NZ just for that. Pizza was typically great, and the side salad my daughter had would be a great meal on its own. The shared starter of fried prawns, calamari and artichokes with accompanying cheese and tomato sauces was superb. Priced extremely reasonably and great service. Deservedly popular and well worth a visit.

Homestyle Italian

By Troy B |

We had tried to go to a bistro down the street but for some reason they were closed..... we looked up the street and saw Sodini's signage and said let's try this..... we are glad we did. Very local clientele which added a fun flavor to the evening. The food was homemade and fabulous. We had the mussels and gorgonzola gnocchi.... yum.

Great old school Italian food in North Beach

By suziem |

It's been almost 20 years since I've been back to Sodini's. The last time I was at this restaurant it was called Green Valley. Walking into the restaurant, I noticed the bar hasn't changed a bit but the restaurant area has had a light face lift. The servers and hostess were very friendly. The green salad we ordered was huge and fed 3 of us easily as a starter. I had the ravioli with meat sauce. The meat sauce was that old fashioned old school Italian comfort goodness and the ravioli were tender and filled with yummy beef.

Great atmosphere

By AlecMBE |

Authentic and welcoming. Efficient staff look after you even at busy times. Ice cold Guinness was great. Queues built up after 7pm. Lovely food and great atmosphere. Pizzas are massive - couldn't manage a medium on my own!

Excellent Italian food!

By John C S |

Found this restaurant on Trip Advisor.... Thought it sounded interesting! This is a fun place to eat, everyone was friendly and enjoying themselves ( dinners and servers). Portions are large and excellent... If you want really good Italian food you will not be disappointed!

Real Italian is hard to find

By andrewearl |

Crowded loud and amazing - food everywhere, people having great experiences and feeling authentic and appreciated - this has a very positive vibe. I will go every time I am in SF.

Perfect...

By jv_trip73 |

We loved the ambiance of this place, and the food was absolutely fantastic - I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. Service was great, too. This place was exactly what I was hoping it would be.

Great traditional Italian restaurant

By Joanne G |

This is an excellent family owned traditional Italian restaurant. The atmosphere is very casual. The steamed mussels and clams were very good, and the veal scallopini was excellent. They do not accept reservations but we arrived before the rush on a Tuesday evening and were seated quickly.

Kitch, Touristy, but very good

By Diveguide |

Its like a soprano's episode, guys in white vests black shirts and heavy gold chains, waiting staff calling to each other loudly, familiarity as though you're part of the family, its great on a busy night in north beach only had to wait 20 mins for a table Decor is OTT traditional trattoria, heavy on frank Sinatra, background music seemed to be sinatra or dean martin so what the hell it fitted and we had a great night we ordered a mixture of starters and pizza and pasta, all were very good, no negatives This place does not pretend to be anything other than what it appears, what they do works so why change anything

Real LIttle Italy

By Vegan_Hiker |

So many restaurants in Little Italy - how do you chose? TripAdvisor reviews had us make reservations at a different restaurant, but when we arrived that one was empty while up the street, at Sodini's it was packed. We decided to go with the crowd and happy we did. Luckily we only had to wait in line 20 minutes and had a great dinner there. At Sodini's they don't take reservations. If you want to pick a place really feel LIttle Italy this is the restaurant. Authentic, great decor and good food.

Great Italian restaurant in North Beach

By Kim W |

My daughter and I were looking for a great place to eat in San Francisco for dinner. We were on a cruise and only had one day there. We wandered around North Beach until we came upon Sodini's and knew instantly we'd found the perfect place. From the Sinatra music playing, to the Sinatra pictures hanging within, to the smell of great food, this was it. The food was amazing, the service personal and inviting. My daughter had pesto pasta and loved it. I had some of the best lasagne I've ever had. Next trip to Dan Francisco, we are definitely going back!

A great North Beach Italian restaurant...a classic.

By Richard W |

North Beach is the traditional neighborhood of the original Italian immigrants to SF who were fishermen. In the 1800's the shoreline, or beach, was much closer than today's San Francisco which has many areas built on land fill. Bordering Chinatown it is fun to just walk around North Beach and savor the aromas floating in the air. Sodini's , used to be called Green Valley, is a classic Italian restaurant. If you want authentic and original, this is a great place. Pasta is excellent, seafood (clams, muscles, shrimp) are all fresh, sauces are original to the family that runs the place. Service is very good, prices are very fair, the house wine is very good...you cannot go wrong. There are many restaurants in the area--this happens to be our favorite for the past 50 years.

A little treasure

By CreweCantona7 |

Absolutely wonderful evening! Great authentic Italian food. We had the clam and mussel starter followed by the meatballs with linguine. The service was great and there was a lovely olde world feel to the place. Would recommend.

Great South Beach Spot

By Enwells1 |

Good classic Italian dishes. Great atmosphere. The owner and bartender were very friendly and made us feel like we were regulars from the neighborhood.

A trip to Italy in SF

By DonJulioSacramento |

Go-To spot in North Beach that offers good food and great family atmosphere. It reminds me of mom & pop owned restaurants in Florence, Italy.

Happy place!

By Ina T |

I would be perfectly happy to enjoy a pitcher (or two) of their house red, with their Caesar salad (anchovies on the side) and their amazing sourdough. The atmosphere is homey, with a splash of mobster, and the servers are fantastic. The rest of the food is good. Not great. Just good, but good enough to keep me coming back!

I got dinner at this Italian restaurant.

By TennisStar602 |

I met up with my cousin and my high school friend at Sodini’s. Initially, I was not sure what to expect. The meals came with bread and the servers were great. The food was not cheap; however, the portions were huge and I loved my meal. I got the linguini and shellfish and I loved it.

All time favorite Italian Rest.! A+++++

By Tamara C |

Warm, inviting, traditional Italian Restaurant I've been to Sodini's more than a few times. The owners are very Italian and it shows in the authenticity and flavor of their food. I personally am aware that combined with their family recipes handed down from generation to generation am aware that the owners have also traveled to Italy for refining some of their flavors, and it is evident in each dish! My absolute favorite dish is the steamers! The Caesar Salad is delizioso! I've also had the Caprese salad and bruschetta, another fav! The candle-lit and very romantic atmosphere (in the evening) is just wonderful, lovely selection of wine all the while Frank Sinatra playing in the background. A must when visiting S.F.!!

Good Value Italian Food in a Fun Restaurant

By Cincin2100 |

This is the kind of restaurant I would go to in North Beach when I was young and didn't have a lot of money. Good food, large portions and an unpretentious environment. We had dinner here last weekend and I loved seeing young and old enjoying this restaurant. They don't take reservations but luckily we went early and were seated promptly. The waitress was a sweetheart and professional. The house salad was delicious and large enough for two people. We had pesto dishes and they were good but I prefer a little more flavor. Again large portions that made good leftovers the next day. If you want to experience traditional North Beach Italian food this is a good option.

Great italian experience!

By flori-texan |

Greeted at the door, drinks were fast and tasty and the food was stellar! Would go back for more and a heartbeat. If in the area stop in for some authentic Italian cuisine. Loved it.

Yumo!

By Quest623806 |

We decided to eat here because it looked like something locals preferred (a good thing). We were not disappointed. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was very quaint with pictures of Italy adorning the walls and a very neighborhood feel inside. We looked up ratings and pictures on yelp. It seems the real thing never really lives up to the pictures but the food looked as good as the pictures and tasted even better. We got lasagna, chicken Parmesan, and an oyster pasta dish. We were all very pleased, so pleased in fact that we were leaving the next day but we ate once again at the restaurant before we left. Our waitress Rachel, was very personable and played tooth fairy to my little nephew who had just lost his first tooth on our trip to San Francisco. We will look forward to eating here again on future trips to San Francisco.

Love this place

By Ddc613 |

Off the beaten path, yummy Italian family style eatery. Food was great. Wine was great. Service was great. Would go back. Kids were wiping sauce off their plates And the bruschetta was divine. Highly recommend for families.

Food is good place is a disgrace for customer service!!!!!

By rsferlazza1 |

So let me start by saying i really like the food here it's good and i come here with family and friends often and have been a local to them for 5 years live right up the street. So i was tired looking to order food and went online and actually placed a order online through (BRING ME THAT) which has there menu and everything. I called just in case to see if they got the order and this nasty woman answers the phone don't know if she is the owner or not and personally don't care. She went were not associated with any one online so i said oh ok thats weird cause i placed in order you guys might want to look into that just kinda looking out for them. She literally goes no you should just not order from here ever again and hangs up on me. I don't really write review's but i was disgusted by this and trust me my friends, family, and anyone i know wont spend a penny in this place and will make sure everyone that asks me about this place i will turn them on to the other 100 restaurants in North Beach. I actually met the owner who was really cool a few times and always asks how was everything super nice. I don't see how he lets people work for him that talk to people like that. I called back 3 times she finally picked up and was a complete coward on the phone what a joke. RIP Sodini's also I'm going to post the pics of this website advertising online that u can order through them just because this nasty ugly person inside told me to F Off. Again even in the worst places iv'e never been treated like this.

True Italian San Fran Style

By Parkliving |

This is some real San Fran authentic food and personality. The food is rich and the restaurant is jumping. Pack in and enjoy the busy bar and food service. True Italians will find this "Old School Good"

Great food excellent prices

By Pete A |

If you want a real taste of SF North end dining than this is a place for you. Cozy warm and friendly the staff are all related and treat you like family. The food is amazing and enough for two. The atmosphere was delightful as everyone talks to each other about food. I love the feeling a place gives off without trying to be cool which happens a lot in SF. Great value fun area not touristy at all.

Cute place, huge portions

By Aine R |

Went here for dinner on a busy Saturday. It's such a cute throwback place. Very friendly vibe. Huge portions. Tasty

Tourist scam

By Christelle G |

It is not the best Italian restaurant but not the worst either but to flee for the Service and honesty of the waitress. We do not know what we pay because the waitress chooses the amount of tips without consulting us or even giving us the receipt (payment in cb) This must be the Processing of Tourists - unacceptable and scandalous

Charming find🍝

By Jackie T |

This place is adorable. Welcoming and unassuming, it brings you to the old world feeling and keeps the friendly vibe alive. A hearty and delicious meal without any hustle. Would definitely be back on my next visit!

Great atmosphere, great food ...

By salvage_team |

This is a busy little 100 year old family-owned place with plenty of atmosphere. You'll be glad you stood in the doorway for 20 minutes, hoping for a table. Old school menu. Of 24 pastas, probably 15 of them had "creamy" in the description. I don't normally eat "creamy", but this is the place. The Tortellini Carbonara (with cream & bacon) was exceptional, like home cooked. Their gnocchi (3 choices) is a signature dish. A lot of regulars, kisses being exchanged. Trattoria style, no wine list, generic Red or White (pretty decent). Great little bar. "No reservations, no desserts, no de-caf". Nuff said.

Great atmosphere but poor food

By philomena789 |

You can sense that at one time this was a great family restaurant in North Beach. The decor is old style Italian with friendly, helpful service but once the food was served we were disappointed. Bread: store-bought sourdough served cold. Balsamico on the table was rancid. Caesar salad: dressing was bland, very little parmesan. Croutons were good. Gnocchi pesto: again, store-bought with canned pesto. Tasteless Clam/mussel pasta: 3 small clams and no mussels unless they were chopped up in the sauce, no flavor Wine: surprisingly poor selection considering this is Napa country. Bartender/hostess/server were wonderful.

Homestyle North Beach Restaurant

By Lorraine W |

Good service, family atmosphere and good food. A generous and delicious salad came with my dinner, one of two specials that evening. The chicken marsala was tender with plenty of mushrooms and a side of pasta. Neighborhood restaurant, easily walkable.

Enjoyable evening. Old World Vibe

By Marent |

Traditional Italian menu, our table enjoyed a really good smooth Minestrone soup, Caesar salad, chicken parm, tortellini pesto, meatballs & Spaghetti and the special Chicken Marsala. All excellent and spit on service by staff. We were greeted by bartender as soon as we walked in. Didn’t appear to have host on duty this Tuesday night. Waiter promptly arrived with water. Didn’t feel at all rushed and staff packed our leftovers (count on having) . They seem to have an attentive crew. Really nice sort of North End (Boston) atmosphere. The only thing not great was an overdressed house salad. That said, it was very good house dressing. Lots of bread to soak it up..

Never miss it...

By ccinchico |

Simply put a trip to the city is not finished without dinner here!!! Love the added seating from the Covid dining. Hope they keep it. Best Italian around. Total old school. See you in August.

Back again for Italian Pastas!

By GRS-SJS |

We enjoyed ourselves so much the first time we came back. The atmosphere is great, service is very friendly and the food is wonderful. The portions are huge, enough for lunch the next day. Pastas are fresh, the sauces are rich and flavorful. Great Italian wines by bottle and glass. Lot of dinner choices, try two different ones and share.

Fabulous food and great service

By Sue H |

Food was delicious! Lasagna delish and Tortellini carbonara was fabulous!! Portions are large! Atmosphere is nice! Quaint !

Super Italian-American restaurant

By S N |

Yum, tasty, great food. One of our party is Italian-American himself and he said the meatballs were as good as his grandma's, so Sodini's meets a pretty high bar! Service was relaxed and efficient, there was a good wine selection, and the menu had enough vegetarian options to make picking a main course a pleasant chore. There were crayons on the table and with the paper table cloth, we interpreted this as an invitation to share our tipsy thoughts at the end of the meal. Apologies if we were in fact vandalising your restaurant - we had a great time!

lovely warm friendly homestyle

By Chris J |

visited with family (4) and enjoyed excellent meal, very good frito misto, several different pastas, each very good, but the highlight was the front-of-house vibe, very friendly and unpretentious while serving very good food. will re-visit!

a great find

By Aussietrip77 |

we were recommended to this restaurant by a friend who lives locally and it did not disappoint. Great atmosphere, very good food, just had an altogether great vibe, very italian!

Excellent pizza

By smf44 |

Last place we ate at during our stay and enjoyed it most of all. Great staff, nice authentic Italian atmosphere, good location, not touristy and wonderful food. We had the pizza but the main dishes looked excellent.

Iconic Italian

By Ralf M |

Authentic and iconic Italian restaurant run by the same family for generations, Great classic Italian dishes, sumptuous portions and lots to choose from. Great atmosphere - it’s like the Sapranos - but remember this restaurant was first ! It’s a great place to take friends, business or family - I eat here every time I visit San Francisco

What you expect from North Beach Italian

By Jon S |

Not much to say it was a typical North Beach family-owned Italian restaurant. It aaa delicious with some sassy Italian waitresses giving it that extra flare of authenticity. I’d definitely go back.

American Italian

By GeriWabel67 |

Despite in midst of Little Italy, the food has nothing to do with authentic Italian food. Athmosphere is great and waiters do your best, bur at the same time they habe no education on Italianita nor food. When we tried to confront them, the waiter said: „well, a Coca Cola in Italy has also a different price then here“.... Oooops, if the food would be more italian I‘d pay the double 😂😂😂 No, dont go in there, sorry.

Italian Food Perfection! Great prices, too!

By Coleen T |

We had dinner at Sodini's on Green St in North Beach, San Francisco last week. The prices are great, the menu consists of the "usual" classic pasta dishes, as well as pizza! The flavor, especially the "creamy tomato" sauce, was superb. This is NOT an average place for Italian food - the food was delicious!! One of the best Italian meals I have eaten (outside of Rome)...nice Sinatra and Dean Martin music played, we sat outside (though outside seating is limited). The decor is casual, the staff are warm and friendly. We arrived a little after 5pm on a Friday night, and had no trouble being seated right away. The portions are generous and we all ate every bit of food on the plates!

Very Italian

By jjones4180 |

Went with 2 friends after walking the city all day. The food was good and waitresses very busy so not too attentive to every table.

Best lasagna in town

By Jehuzero |

It was really good and the atmosphere was good. The waitress was nice and funny. There is a paper map good for kids who want to draw or get occupied.

AWESOME MEAL

By Duane N |

My wife, brother, Father and I decided on a trip to San Fran because we all wanted to go but we have never been. We had a great time in the city but the highlight was/is the food. The top of the list is this restaurant in particular. I have been to Italy many many times because I use to live in Germany and my uncle lived in northern Italy. I have to say that this food is as good as some of the food that I have had in Italy. My wife and I were very very impressed and surprised at the great flavorful taste. I think I have only had one other restaurant in L.A be as good. I can't recommend this restaurant and higher. Their service was great and the staff was super friendly. My wife had gnocchi, and my father and brother had pizza.

True Taste of Italy!

By Jayne K |

Short story - great food and felt like family! We were in North Beach at 9 pm on a Monday and stumbled in to Sodini’s which looked packed. We we’re immediately greeted by the bar tender who welcomed our family in to sit at the booth at the end of the bar. Sodini’s has a great banter filled Italian atmosphere and the food did not disappoint either. All the salads were tasty along with the garlic cheese bread. We then went to the house pizza and lasagna (excellent). Large portions and we ended up taking some home with us. Our server Rachel was great and her mom the bartender even brought a pitcher of soda (antique pitchers hung up behind the bar) for our teens to refill their own glasses. By the end of the evening we felt like part of their family. Love Sodini’s for food and the experience!

Menu Prices need to be updated to what is actually charged

By Harvey6f |

The service was good considering there were more happy diner's than there was hard working staff to serve them. All six folks, in our group, really enjoyed their meals. I would come again.

Unbelievable food and service!

By CMG3000 |

We went here tonight for our anniversary and were treated to the meal of a lifetime. After wandering around North Beach for about an hour we circled back to this classic-looking, over 100-year-old SF staple. The atmosphere was lively and the place was filled with families, couples, and friends-tourists like us and locals, too. This was just delicious food and such friendly, caring service. I can't wait to go back. Loved the Sinatra theme and the family pictures!

Simple, quaint, fun

By Steven Barnhart |

This has become my favorite "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant. The food is alway top notch. The service is always good and friendly. The staff interact like family. If you are looking for a black tie place this is not it. If you are looking for authentic Italian food in a fun ambiance this is for you. I whole heartedly recommend it.

For delicious food and art lovers

By KatieKatie2013 |

Is located in the Italian neighborhoods of SF.Taste Linguini with Seafood, Very tasty. They have crayons:After dinner, you can draw what you want-It was unexpected and funny...

Great place

By David Smethurst |

We've been many times. If you are looking for a Michelin Five star this isn't it. Instead it's just a good, decent restaurant. There's a bar to while away the time, usually short, for a table. The food is good. The atmosphere is great. People are nice an unpretentious. This is not a tourist trap or a pretentious place, just good decent food. No desserts, though, which is fine since there are plenty of cafes to find an espresso and cake after.

Great Pizza and Calamari

By Russell |

Our team visited twice and we all agreed this was our favorite spot. We had pizza and calamari which were both fantastic! Can’t wait to come back.

Best Gnocchi in the Bay!

By Dave C |

Whenever we have friends in town, we take them to this small and intimate restaurant. The staff treat you like family and make you feel like you are visitors in their home. You MUST try the Gnocchi and Polenta..... I would recommend this to anyone looking for a romantic night with their significant or to start a night with friends in the best SF neighborhood, North Beach. (Be sure to ask for Linda s your server)

Authentic Italian

By Janet H |

Everything about this place was great. Service was fast and friendly, drinks were good, cheese ravioli was delicious, melt in your mouth gnocchi, and awesome pizza. So happy our friends brought us here, definitely looking forward to eating there again.

There have to be better Italian restaurants

By Robin B |

We really wanted to like this neighborhood restaurant, but it just wasn’t that good. The service was attentive and friendly initially, but after dropping off our entrees, our server disappeared and never came back. We had to flag her down for the check. We shared the house salad, which was good with a creamy Italian dressing, tomatoes, beans, onions and croutons. We then shared the angel hair pasta North End style, and it wasn’t very flavorful. I liked the pasta itself, but the sauce was runny and lacked flavor. They deliver a basket of crusty sourdough bread to your table, but if it had been hot it would have gone from five stars to ten. With the plethora of Italian restaurants in the North End and San Francisco in general, there have to be better options.

Little Italy in the City first time.

By 1000Gr8adventures |

Came here with a regular to the area and experience. Several choices in the area. Good food, with friendly, cozy, atmosphere. Lots of regulars came through with a family greeting which showed the loyalty and charm of the neighborhood restaurant. The prawns and pasta was excellent with a nice light cream sauce. The chicken and pasta was very good as well. Prices were reasonable especially for the City. Perfect choice before a Giants game.

Splendido!

By Cl C |

This place is a genuine North Beach gem. Sodini’s is as Unsophisticated as it authentic. We’ve been in multiple time. Each dish we’ve had has been a hit. If you are fond of pesto linguine Sodini’s does a wonderful job. The sauce is bright and balanced and routinely forces as smile to your face on each bite. Traditional dishes including the Pollo Marsala and Pollo Parmigiano are executed perfectly. Younger diners may enjoy the pizza selections as well as the pasta and meatballs. These folks also do a very nice job at the bar. The Manhattan Martini is a standout. Sodini’s also offers corkage @ $15 per bottle if the mood suits you. Be advised…they post their policies prominently…. “No Decaf, No Reservations, No Desert, No Exceptions”; but you will not be disappointed if you manage to get in for a bite.

Wonderful food and atmosphere

By mellonhead2014 |

Service was great, little Italian restaurant that felt like Italy. Lasagna was wonderful, great pitcher of red house wine. Cost reasonable for SF.

The "real deal" in North Beach

By Kay R |

As a first timer visitor to Sodini's I was totally pleased with the authenticity, service, food and energy. When you walk in the door, you're immediately greeted warmly. Too many old time North Beach restaurants have closed or totally updated their offerings. Not here! Everything is as you remember it to be, and delicious. And as a former & native New Yorker, I felt as if I was right back there. Our server was as efficient and pleasant as could be.

Excellent!

By JoBoo52 |

Great Italian food in an old school atmosphere. Seafood linguine and lasagna were on point. Perfect portions and great taste. Definitely recommend Sodini's!!

Great time and not a Tourist Trap g

By Gnarlita |

Of course you will find Many tourists-it's in North Beach, but this is our favorite Go To. No they don't take reservations, so yes, you may wait an hour to be seated. Who cares? Get a drink at the bar and enjoy yourselves. The Staff have all worked there for 15+ years and are local San Franciscans, who grew up and managed to stay living in the City. As you may know, NOT easy in the Bay area. The Salmon is always great and usually a Special. Best thing ever? We accidently left a cell phone on our table. (A bit too much wine perhaps?) We got a text from Sodini's that they had it. Our Server Rachel and her Buser were great, the food was Yummy. Getting the phone back? Icing on the Cake!

Cosy and friendly

By Steffi T |

Walking back from Telegraph Hill we were asking someone walking his dog for advice regarding a restaurant close by that can be recommended. He suggested Idealo (been there, did not rate it family friendly). Second suggestion was Sodini's. Nothing special about the place except for Erin making you feel welcome whoever you are. Creola on every second table, paper to draw as well. We weren't so hungry after all. She suggested to share are larger Pizza, instead of having several (better price ratio for the customer). Summary: she is good at doing what Italian restaurants are famous for: she is a good host for any kind of customers. Neighbouring table WAS hungry and ordered 3 courses. Felt like home.

Just the Italian dining experience we were hoping for...

By Jerry B |

I'll confess to some restaurant angst when choosing in a big city, but we hit it "bang on" with Sodini's. We were looking for an unpretentious "authentic" Italian trattoria-type family owned/run restaurant and this was it... it what remains of Little Italy, SF. The waitress was attentive, engaging and helpful though not hovering... the food was excellent... and the price was right. We'd go back again in a heartbeat.

Traditional Italian Restaurant In North Beach

By Nancy B |

Originally, we tried to get into Soto Mare and the wait was too long so they recommended Sodini's. Since then, I have been back to Sodini's many times. This a a traditional "mom and pop" type of Italian restaurant in North Beach which is the Italian section of San Francisco. The food tastes very home made and good. The salad comes with the dinner and it is the best. It is big with olives, tomatoes and really good creamy Italian dressing. The main courses are large and fresh tasting. The prices are reasonable. We now eat here regularly.

What a great place

By nick s |

What a great place to go to when you don't really have anywhere else to go or if you just craving some snacks as and suites with sugar or what not

Absolute Best Restaurant in San Francisco!!!

By jds00 |

My husband and I had dinner here 2 nights during our stay in San Francisco!! The food was delicious but even better was the wonderful staff!! Ana and Erin were amazing!! Will definitely return to Sodinis!!!

Quick service, food ok

By M T |

Very nice people. Quick service. Food ok. Weekdays only open at 5PM. Romantic atmosphere, candles for mood lighting.

I Love It

By GreatPoint |

This is all fresh authentic Italian food with personable service that made it one of the most enjoyable meals I’ve had in a long while! The fried calamari was fresh, tender, and very lightly coated. Homemade lasagna is authentic and satisfying. Chicken Marsala was a special and just wonderful. Lingerie with fresh clams and white sauce was so good. The sauces are authentic and homemade. Everyone enjoyed their meals and nothing was left on the plate. This is one of those times where you just walk into a place and it was a great local dining experience all around. Like I want to come back to SF just to come here again! Thank you.

Just as yummy as 30 years ago

By JohnHMapleValley_WA |

My wife and I went back to San Francisco after having lived there 30 years ago and sought out our old haunts. To our pleasant surprise, the old "Green Valley Restaurant", now called by the name of the family that owns it, was still there-- and still just as good as it was! Fabuloso! We had a flight to catch, so we were there at opening time and were greeted warmly, just like we were long lost family members. The sign on the door says it all "Sempre In Famiglia"-- and the customers are treated like family. We weren't there long and the restaurant was packed. We started with a classic caesar salad that was fresh made by our server-- served heaping with fresh cheese it was really great. We then split a plate of lasagna-- and it was plenty for two. It took a bit longer than other meals so we sat in the window and watched the world go by (or the world on Green Street). It was worth the wait! Cheesy, meaty with a great marinara, and wonderful aroma and flavor. As we got ready to leave, the host (owner?) thanked us for coming and reminded us that we shouldn't wait 30 years to go back!

Highly recommended!

By S C |

The concierge at our hotel recommended this place and we went out of our way to go there. It was so worth it! The food was amazing! The owner, Mark, went out of his way to make everyone feel welcome and since we had to wait a while for a table inside, he gave us some bruschetta that was the best bruschetta I've ever had. I ordered the Gnocchi Gorgonzola without mushrooms and it was delicious. The gnocchi was soft and filled with spinach and cheese. The sauce was creamy and cheesy, but not overwhelming. The house white wine was fantastic too. As we ate, we watched Mark accommodate people even catering to a larger group who hadn't answered the phone when he called to tell them their table was ready and yet still insisted they sit (uprooting a couple from their table in the process). I love the photos on the wall of the family and the fun attitude of "Don't even ask!". "No dessert, no decaf, no reservations, no exceptions"! The only bad thing about the restaurant is that it is a little too small to accommodate larger groups, but it's also kind of good as everyone gets individual attention and the food comes out made to perfection. A highly recommended place to eat in Little Italy!

What happened?

By Golfhawk007 |

Delightful people and good service but the food was downright awful! Tasteless watery sauces on the pasta, flavorless crumbly meatballs and tons of salt. We were extremely disappointed and shocked that others have rated this restaurant so highly.

Charming old Italian eatery

By David OConnor |

The Sodini's clan have done quite well. Not only starting Golden Boy pizza nearby, they purchased the Green Valley Restaurant that I knew from my youth. It is the way I remember. Sinatra and rat pack music in the air. Quaint candlelit tables lined with paper so little kids can doodle drawings with crayon before a meal is served. Stick with what they do best. Gnocchi, tortellini carbonara , and of course lasagne. Heavy yet hearty meal. Start with huge delicious caprese salad. Service was fabulous. Very prompt.

Great little gem

By Lee S |

Visited on our recent stay on San Francisco and had a fantastic meal with delicious food and wine! The staff were helpful and charming! Great little gem!

Very old San Francisco

By Bambola_Bax |

We have got to this Restaurant by a pure coincidence. As always in US, nothing goes without Reservation - and we didn´t one. So we had to wait for our table around an hour, which we decided to spend at the Sodini´s bar. And suddenly we discovered this covered charm of old San Francisco restaurant, sitting at the old bar, sipping our dinks, chatting with bar keeper. We spent an absolute great evening with good food and nice wine and would definitely recommend our friends to visit this restaurant.

Like Home Away From Home

By Laraine322 |

This is the one restaurant we ALWAYS visit when in San Francisco. It has an old school Italian neighborhood feel that comes complete with friendly staff and Frank Sinatra music. On this particular one-week trip, we ate at Sodini's three times. Yes, three. We had planned on it being our opening and closing nights' meals and they were. We also met up with an old friend at the last minute and decided to meet there. He lives in San Francisco and has been in the area for 20 years. He's heard good things about Sodini's and was dying to meet up there. Each meal was delicious and our service was fantastic. We had our 10 year old son with us and they really were great with him as well. Every single item on the menu is delicious and can be recommended, and there is always a nightly special. One thing you must remember before going: No Reservations, No Decaf and No Dessert. You're in North Beach so that is not a problem. I recommend anything Pesto. It is to-die-for! Enjoy!!

Good food and great people.

Taking a stroll through this area and not really knowing where we should eat. Took a peak in and this placed looked authentic and was crowded so we stopped in. Greeted by the owner and while all the tables were full and it would be a small wait we decided to join the crowd at the bar and ended up doing dinner at the bar. Fun place and very good food.

Hot summer night

San Francisco restaurants are not geared to cope with heat waves, and that is exactly what we experienced when eating at Sodini's. The staff was however fabulous in keeping us hydrated and well served. The food was excellent backed by great service, and the restaurant is evidently very popular. A warm Italian family feel with lovely interaction. Loved the restaurant.

Classic North Beach Red Sauce Joint

Classic old school red sauce place in North Beach. It can be tough to pick a place in the area with so many options but we were very happy here. Friendly service, fun decor, and good food. Need to get there early to get a table. Veal Parm was top notch.

Solid Italian

Enjoyed dinner here with friends while visiting in March. Food was very good. Loved the ambience of the restaurant. Will definitely be back.

Slow Service, Kind Staff

By LizbethW14 |

I was here recently for dinner and ordered the Linguine Sodini with Chicken. The pasta itself was delicious but the Chicken lacked flavor. Our service was slow but the waitress was kind, we were seated at a small table on the side towards the back of the bar. I think the waitress forgot we were there but they were a little busy. She didn't offer to fill our waters when they ran out and never came back to check on our meals.

Classic Italian at It's Best!

We got there at their 5 PM opening on. Tuesday and got a nice table for four by the front window. No waiting at that time and up until we we left about 6:30 there were still many tables open. We had Veal Scallopini, lasagna and a seafood pasta. Portions were nice size and while we all enjoyed on meals we took some home for later. Varied menu with lots of choices to please everyone. Our service was great and she kept our glasses full. No desserts so we beat down the block to a gelato shop after dinner.

Best Italian food in San Francisco

Incredible Italian food. I had the real parmigiana but not breaded and my girlfriend had veal scallopini in both were beyond this world. Our waitress Rachel was also incredible. My cousin recommended this place and I highly recommend it! Incredible marinara sauce! We will go here every time we are in San Francisco. Also incredible creamy minestrone soup.

No Exceptions

As you pass the front window of Sodini’s the first thing you see is “No Decaf, No Dessert, No Reservations, No Exceptions “ on the window. Maybe a little rough around the edges?? NO WAY!!! The employees are above courteous!! They go out of there way to make your dinner as enjoyable as possible!! Oh, and the food. INCREDIBLE!! My wife had a piece of salmon that was to die for. I highly recommend a visit to this establishment if you are in the North Beach area of San Francisco.

Great Italian food

After a half hour wait (properly announced by the nice waitress) we were seated, and the food was really good. Portions were big, quality very good and the service friendly. The bread received was a bit old, but as it was provided for free no complains there. Overall we can recommend this if you like Italian food.

Good Food, Great Service, Fair Prices

Local recommended Sodini's. Wait and bar staff welcomed us like we were regulars. Opened at 5pm and quickly filled up. Table service quick and friendly. Many Italian selections on the menu. Hearty sourdough bread before the meal. I had the gorgonzola gnocchi covered with gorgonzola cheese sauce. It was excellent. Reasonable prices for San Francisco. I'd go again.

If you are in the North Beach area, don't miss it. What a great, friendly, casual, traditional Italian restaurant. Don't dress up, but do expect really luscious food

Excellent

Tried to go to the Scotto Mare down the street from here while visiting and were turned away because of wait.... They recommended this place and I went back to thank them for the recommendation. Still had a wait of about an hour for Sodinis but found the bar service and staff to be good company for the hour long wait. The staff was excellent and attentive... the food was reasonably priced and equally as good as the service. Based on being disappointed by not being able to go where we had picked we were more than pleasantly surprised with Sodinis. Would most definitely go back and recommend to anyone in the area.

Amazing little Italian

We are here last night and had the best meal of our trip so far. Service was excellent and attentive, food was delicious to the point we are still talking about it. I had gnocchi Nastri which had a creamy colognes sauce on it and the other three in my group all had cannelloni and have raved about it. Definitely recommend.

Great Italian

We had a great dinner of authentic Italian food. Small restaurant with a great vibe. Owner greeted us and took our names. Wait was about 30 mins. Wait staff was very friendly and helpful. Children enjoyed the food too. Reasonable priced and was very good. If we had time we would have eaten there again.

Good, not Great

By skyjord |

Pro: Great atmosphere for an Italian restaurant; we were allowed to sample a couple of the bottled wines before making a commitment to a full bottle; Pretty good baked lasagna; Generous portions; Good service, fair prices, particularly in San Francisco's North Beach. Con: We had a combination of steamed clams and mussels, good broth, but the shellfish was definitely not fresh. The couple next to us had seafood linguini, we could smell the lack of freshness from our table. We'd go again, but will stay away from their fish

Great find
