Nice Atmosphere for good cocktails and Thai without heat.

By BRHoover |

Good cocktails and service but the Thai food was average at best. I was expecting some heat but it was very toned down. I would prefer that they have chili oil or ask for an expected level of heat.

Ouststanding Thai food

Hip atmosphere & Great Thai food

By Landon W |

I have had two meetings at Songkran Thai in the last week because everyone in the meetings love Thai. The universal opinion was that this is really good Thai. I had the green curry with eggplant the first time and was very pleased. Lots of well balanced flavor. The second trip I tried the red curry crispy roasted duck. It was a delight. A crispy duck leg and plenty of duck in the curry. The Tom Kar Gai soup is among the best I've ever had. They only serve white rice. The main downside is that it is not the best place for a business meeting. We had to almost shout to be clearly understood over the background noise.

Customize Your Meal

By Blmhouston |

The menu of this charming little uptown restaurant is what you would expect in terms of curry, soups and mains. The meat and fish are super tender and the service is excellent. What stands out is their willingness to customize your dish - 4 levels of spice, vegetables that can be stir fried or steamed, and a general openness to anything the customer wishes. It’s a great experience.

Must Try - among the best Thai food in Houston

By Jackinhouston |

Recently read an article in the chronicle about Songkran, located in Uptown Park, Houston. Chef has relocated from NYC where he was exec Chef at Buddakan and Ruby Foo's, both among my favorites. Came to have dinner with few friends last Thursday and we pretty much tried every protein dish in the menu. We did family style due to size of our group and really enjoyed the explosion of flavors in all entrees. Each dish was very unique and different which made for an exciting meal. The service was spot on and drinks were stiff. We hung out for nearly 2.5 hours over the a 3 course meal. A must try for all Thai food lovers!!!!

Authentic Thai

By Love2Travel26x2 |

This was my first experience dining here - some other reviewers commented on it being a bit pricey, which I agree, but they have a good happy hour menu - wine, beer and various apps are $5 each. I had the pad thai - generous portions, great balance of flavors. I shared the spring rolls on the happy hour menu with a colleague - also very good. What I enjoyed the most was the outdoor seating....coming from the cold Midwest, it was nice to sit outside on a slightly cool evening. Ample outdoor seating in a garden-like setting; also ample seating inside, with a large bar.

Songkran Thai Kitchen - Good service, atmosphere and very good food!

By Sue S |

Our Tai Chi group had lunch on a Friday - the restaurant is small and we filled up the front half - dark colors with red highlights - the bar area is well lit and artfully decorated. Large Asian inspired paintings on the walls. Service was very good and friendly. They have wonderful lunch specials that accommodated our group very well - we have 2 vegetarians - they enjoyed the fried tofu. I had the Cashew chicken served in a bowl with red pepper strips and cashews - delicious - sides were white rice and fresh broccoli - others had pad thai chicken, the fresh fish and crispy duck. Lunch comes with a cup of home made vegetable soup and a wonderful fresh and crispy green salad with a light dressing. Prices are very reasonable - very enjoyable lunch and we plan to return with family. We can see why it was voted one of the top 10 Thai restaurants in Houston. The ice Thai coffee was especially good.

3rd time and good

By arturstankiewicz |

I have visited this restaurant for the 3rd time this month (three different occasions) and I am still impressed as I was the first time. Service quick and friendly, taste of all dishes excellent and overall good culinary experience. A definite place to stop by if one likes Thai dishes.

Pretty meh

By Kerry B |

Ambience is nice, drinks were good. Food was blander than expected. Papaya in the papaya salad was not ripe and had a chewy rather than crunchy texture. Drunken noodles had a watery, watered down taste. The beef was chewy. Sesame chicken was ok but didn’t expect breaded and fried chicken chunks like take out General Tso’s. Overall disappointing and at a price point where I expected more. Was glad I didn’t bring the whole family.

Vegetarians beware!!!

By David H |

Dined at Songkran Thai Kitchen on Friday and overall was disappointed with the food. The restaurant offers an extensive vegetarian menu however they neglect to mention that all dishes come with fish sauce. This is very misleading as it clearly states on the menu that the food is 100% vegetarian. The server said the chef could make one dish with no fish sauce however it was not the dish we wanted and turned out to be very bland and lacking flavour. Overall the food was pretty average and expensive for what we got.

Spivey.

By Kay M |

Very nice accommodating staff. Lunch was reasonably priced and includes soup and salad with the entree. Salad was really good. Soup was ok. A vegetable soup in. Clear broth but with too mAny potatoes. Had the green curry and ordered it mild or regular but it was still very hot (spicey). We needed more rice. The chicken with basil was less spicey but not As good. I would like to try more items on the menu. Ate on the patio which was pleasant but don't sit too near the fan. Staff did not fish us to leave.

Best Thai Restaurant we have found in Houston

By Thomas W |

There are some terrible Thai restaurants in Houston. We had been trying to find a good Thai restaurant in the area and this is the best one we have found. We enjoyed all of the dishes, which we judged to be reasonably authentic. (I lived in Southeast Asia for 3 years and visit often). The waiter was quite helpful, as well. Save room for the sticky rice with mango for dessert.

Songkran brings the far East to your table....

By susie m |

I'm afraid to tell you how good this restaurant is....I will have to start waiting longer for a table! I was in Thailand a few months before my visit and Songkran's food trasported me to Chaing Mai and the delicious food I had there. You won't be disappointed at the menu. Ask the wait staff for a recommendation--and get ready to become a fan of Songkran.

Awesome Vibe and Food

Great place for relaxing date with great energy and vibe. Had the Pad Thai and Black and Gold sake. Solid taste and enjoyed the entire evening. Highly Recommend but make a reservation as the setting is intimate.

Upscale Thai in bold surroundings

By emilyg14 |

Late dinner after a long day found us craving Thai food. Tidy wine and beer list with a full bar to back up any desires for adult beverages found us with a well priced bottle of Jordan chardonnay (91 points). We started with the chicken satay which were very moist and accompanied by the best peanut sauce ever. Two members of our party had the traditional pad thai which was declared fantastic while the other two chose the blue water prawns. Dishes are artfully prepared, beautiful presentation and most importantly, delicious. Banana crème brulee - declared the finest dessert ever - finished the meal. The restaurant design is tidy, clean lines, bold colors and large artwork. Prices are a tad higher but this isn't takeout in a cardboard container, this is art and flavor well done.

Great thai

By Jermaine H |

We went to the sugar land location, but it isnt on trip advisor yet. So ill review our food choices here. We had a great dinners and delightful drinks. My crispy duck in the pineapple was absolutely exquisite. The beef dish she got was perfectly prepared. Prices range from affordable 12$ to a respectable $30 per dish. Will definitelt be going back. Great options for even the most picky eater!!! The soft shell crap appetizer was excllent as well! The portion on the duck dish was sort of small but the rice helped making it filling. $90 for 2 with tip...appetizer, 3 drinks, 2 entrees (one $25 n other $13)

Standard Thai food choices. Tofu with spicy sauce was very good.. Service was excellent and speedy. Outdoor seating a good choice

Greasy

By kyrasweep |

We had a number of different appetizers, most notably the puff potato and the spring rolls, which were very good with subtle flavors and delightful sauces. However, our entrees were very greasy. The first couple of bites were so good, but after a bit, we couldn't get past the grease! And, upon leaving, we didn't feel so well as our main courses were just laden in grease. Another issue was that we made a reservation ahead of time, and then, in a fairly open restaurant with a lot of available tables, were seated right on top of two women who were shouting at one another through their entire dinner. Their conversation was dreadful, and we were forced to hear every word. The hostess seated us at a table right next to them, and there were many, many other tables that were more private. This restaurant might be a very difficult setting for a business meeting as it is difficult to hear others. The acoustics are very poor, and the atmosphere is particularly bad if you are seated RIGHT NEXT TO (i.e. right on top of) another table! (Particularly if those people are shouting at one another.)

Best thai food in Houston

This is by far the very best thai food I have had in a while. Green curry wagyu beef is to die for...and they have the best pad sew ew

Great!

Friday after work spot. Great appetizers. Will go back. Nice atmosphere. Both valet and free self park.

4.5 stars for delicious, quality food

By cosmotron |

We couldn’t take advantage of the plate lunch (only Mon-Fri), so went ahead and ordered from their dinner menu. The Neua Siam (braised Wagyu short rib) was so tender – it was properly flavored and melted in our mouths! Because we had gotten the dinner (my order was supposed to be larger than the lunch portion), my husband and I were able to share that dish along with his order of Pad Si-ew (which was about the same size as the lunch portion of this entrée but without the soup, salad and veggies). Our server was great: She was friendly, gave informative (and truthful) answers to our questions, and was very attentive throughout our meal. I took off half a star due to the high prices. There are many other places that serve good Thai food - I couldn’t see how some “staples” here were so overpriced. For example, it's beef pad si-ew - just go ahead and fill up that rectangular plate!

Very Authentic Green Curry

By Peter H |

I caught up with a friend recently and we wanted Thai food. I had stumbled upon Songkran last minute through a coworker but it was easy to make reservations through open table. Summary below: Pros: -easy to get in and get seated -the black basil cocktail with Thai basil was great -full bar and wine menu (although personally I'm not a fan of wine with Thai food) -chicken satay and vegetable spring rolls were tasty appetizers -the green curry was delicious -relaxed atmosphere...not too quiet or too loud -very close for those in the Galleria or west side of town Cons: -a little small -our server was new so he wasn't able to really speak to things on the menu As someone who lived in Bangkok for 6 months, I really enjoy Thai food. I'll try Songkran again soon!

Good Introduction to Thai Food

By FredMHouston_Texas |

My sister and I visited Songkran this past week and were very pleased with the atmosphere, service and food. Though the restaurant is small and somewhat hard to find in the Uptown District, it's worth the effort. My sister's husband lived in Thailand and she was very positive about the food. My first time and I love it. The red fish was great and my sister's vegetable dish was also something I would order again. Give it a try!

Great upscale fun thai food... at a good price

By bweep |

Cane here on my last trip to houston. Had 3 hrs to stall after my work trip businees was over and my flight home. Came at 3:30, place had about 5 people.in the restaurant during this no man's time. I noticed happy hour started at 4 and I sat at the bar.... Happy hour is 5 $ apps, and cheep drinks. Think 3$ imported thai beers. I ordered 4 items off the menu. Plates are smallish and I was hungry. Everything that came out was not at all what I expected from ready the menu description, but was flavorful, fresh and inventive. Normally, I like the dive type.whole in.the wall thai places, but I have to say, this place mixes nices atmosphere with top notch food. I would come back again, even if it wasnt happy hour :)

Disappointing.

By Usha P |

We had tasted the fusion cuisine by this Chef at the Blu restaurant and had come to expect greater experience when we dined at the Songkran. The ambiance is okay. We were seated in the rear corner where we had trouble seeing the menu, waiter or each other. The lighting was so poor. Even the waiter agreed with us. Our meal was so so. Why offer the same spring rolls while the Chef has a larger repertoire. The fried dumpling would have been a more refreshing substitute. We would not return to the restaurant. This is a clear example where one strike meansit is out.

Very good lunch

By Donald L |

Went here on a whim during lunch one day. The food tastes really great, especially the green beans and the "heavenly beef" items. The waitstaff was very friendly and helpful in selecting items, service was quick, and had a great time. The interior is nicely-decorated. The lighting is a little low, but it's not too low. Will definitely come back.

Sizzling spicy thai food, best in Houston!!!

By thetraveller923 |

I really love this place, i am regular then when i lived in Houston and whenever i visit!! The staff are really nice, fun, always smiling and very attentive. The decor, the terrace is nice and the bar is quite cool and well done. The food is really good and as close to authentic thai as you will get in Houston, the chef is accommodating for special request ala extra chopped chilli :-))) My favorite is the the tom tum and the red snapper!!

Best Thai Food

By Hamash |

Lovely restaurant with optional outdoor seating. Excellent extensive menu and efficient friendly service. One of the most delicious Thai food I have had particularly the beef, which practically melted in the mouth, and the fish which was spectacular. The yellow chicken Thai curry was a bit bland but still extremely good. Highly recommended for a family outing.

A good Thai place for American tastes

By Gabriel H |

Well-located in restaurant alley in Uptown Houston, we had eyed this place with frequency while visiting other, better known restaurants in the vicinity. The location is excellent, with plenty of self- and valet-parking. At this first visit, we found a rather dark, long, tunnel-like place with small tables rather crowded and not particularly attractive ambience. Judging by the customers dining at the time, it is an informal place, where jackets and ties are out of place; jeans and T-shirts are more the norm. Our waiter was efficient, although not particularly engaging. The food is tasty, but is not comparable to Thai food in other areas of Houston: spices are clearly toned-down, and on average, the dishes are rather bland, probably to conform to the wishes to the regular clientele. Songkran offers about 15 beers, with 4 of them draft, and about 30 wines by the bottle with a small minority available by the glass. Clearly, it is more a place to enjoy tea, rather than wine or beer. Our Spring rolls were good, but basic; the Red Curry Duck was flavorful, but a bit chewy and hard to eat. The crispy duck came out soggy with the curry sauce, defeating the purpose of a crispy skin. The Pork Dumplings tasted like yesterday's batch, but the Chili Basil Stir Fry Beef was very good. This is a place to take friends and associates who are not foodies but would enjoy the pretense of eating Cosmopolitan food. For classic and autochthonous Thai food, you need to look elsewhere.

Excellent restaurant!

Excellent! Me and my wife had dinner for the first time there and we got impressed with the place. Amazing food and drinks, our favorite was the litchi martini. Beautiful decor and great atmosphere. Will certainly be back many times.

Best place for authentic Thai food Great for vegetarian also Warm and friendly atmosphere Patio available Clean restroom

Great first experience dining on Thai food.

By Susie M |

I cant believe that I have waited so long to try this amazing cuisine. Thai food was delicious, at least here at Songkran. I loved the green curry chicken, and we also ordered a very spicy beef dish as well. Both were so tasty. The restaurant has an amazing patio area, and it is all lit up with strings of lights. Not nearly as fancy as I had envisioned, which was a very good thing. Perfect place for a nice date night out.

Unique and delicious Northern Thai cuisine!

By littlegoldenone |

Had lunch for the first time at this place for a business meeting. Lovely intimate restaurant with great service and nice ambiance. Menu features dishes not seen at other Thai restaurants including seafood, mussels, crab, sausage etc. I had a yellow (turnip cake) curry that was absolutely delicious. It will change your opinion of turnips! I did't have dessert but the list also looked very good. Unhurried, inconspicuous service. It wasn't too crowded when we were there but I can see how it might get loud if the restaurant were full.

Delicious Thai Cuisine

By yokohamamama |

There's a nice little cozy restaurant on Aguirre Ave. in BF Homes, Paranaque that serves good Thai food. Their Tomyung is deliciously prepared with just the right amount of spices. Their Pad Thai is really good you'll keep coming back for more. Whenever you're in that part of town you must stop and try their delectable dishes! The service is great and you don't have to wait too long for your food. Try their Crispy Pork Salad, Curry dishes, etc. They also have refreshing Thai Coffee and Tea. Their lemongrass tea is good, too!

Won't go again

Appalling service. Wrong cocktails served, long wait for drinks, no apologies from bartender. Overpriced food. Won't go again.

Wonderful dinner at Songkran

By Carmen A |

Stopped by for an early dinner with a friend. Half price bottle of prosecco during happy hour. My friend had a special appetizer plate for happy hour. Serving sizes were generous. I had an entree. The server was attentive and took time to explain how they cooked particular entrees. I will return to Songkran.

Great restaurant in great location

By Ramon G |

Entrance is hidden and unassuming. Specially when you are among large restaurants in the area. Nice, quiet inside restaurant and bar. Fun, loud outdoor seating. Good service. Seemed busy tonight so service was not prompt (but was good). Great atmosphere. Authentic Thai food. If you want Thai spicy, it is real! Be ready. And they have a grade above that! Great apps and entrees. Crab app, Tom Yum soup and garlic prawns were all excellent. Disappointed they were out of sticky rice but might just have to come back. More than reasonable prices, specially when food was so good. Plenty of drink choices (out of Chang beer so would really need to visit again). Worth the trip!

Thai Food in Uptown Park

By Brenda H |

I love Thai food. We lived in Asia and traveled to Thailand many times so my bar is set pretty high for what is good. By overseas Asian standards it was pretty average. The atmosphere was nice, but not an authentic feel. I like spicy food and recognize many times Asians assume a caucasian's idea of spicy is different. I described to our waitress what I wanted for spice and she told me to get the mild/medium as it is pretty hot. It was disappointingly without any spice. I will keep trying more Thai restaurants.

Previous Delicious; Now Just Average

By Kevin W |

I enthusiastically took a colleague here that I know loves Thai. I've been at least 5 times and it was always good (but haven't been since 2015). We ordered different chicken dishes at lunch and neither of us liked the chicken. Mine was a little tough and the curry was too sweet. We did enjoy the soup and salad. They were great. Good bar service but a little slow at lunch time.

Great food in a nice setting in Uptown

By Jonathan B |

Headed here for lunch. Many of the lunch plates looked delicious, but I settled on the Heavenly Beef -- Wagyu beef that is also marinated for 3 days. I have to say that the food was delicious and very reasonable for what you got (for a lunch). Definitely not the best Thai food I have ever eaten, but excellent food nonetheless. Service was fantastic with the waiter stopping by many times to refill my water or ice tea. I would eat here again, especially for lunch. The setting is also nice in Uptown Park, with a nice outdoor seating area in the back and front of the restaurant.

Wonderful new Thai experience

By Herb B |

Songkran is a wonderful new restaurant located in Uptown Park; enter Uptown Park from the Loop 610 South frontage road. The food is fantastic! The chef is very inventive and the presentation is beautiful. The ambience is elegant, but attire is business casual to cocktail. Very welcoming staff.

Tasty food, but service didn't measure up

By msmccorm |

The food and drinks were delicious, in particular the Pad Ga Pow, Pad Phet Thua and Tod Mun, which we some of the best dishes we have had at a restaurant. The negative, and it was a big one, was the service. A waiter spilled red wine on my friend's back (while he was sitting at our table) and then didn't acknowledge it happened, and when my friend felt it on his back the waiter said it was water. He was hoping my friend wouldn't notice. The big red stain on his back was a big giveaway though. Accidents happen, we all understand, but at least the waiter could have apologized rather than try to play it off.

Great food

By Terri G |

We love the food here and service is very good. We had the shrimp cakes as an appetizer, pad Thai and one of their yellow curries. I don’t recall their menu titles. The have seating outside which is great on those rare occasions it’s great weather in Houston.

Spice Level 3

By Kevin W |

I’ve tried Green Curry chicken at levels 1-3 and 3 is it! Great environment, bar, service. Best Thai salad in Houston. My go-to Thai in the Bayou City!

Awesome food and service!!

By Zelillem |

I absolutely LOOOOOVE this place!! The food, decor, atmosphere and service are all superb and come together so perfectly. I'll definitely be back!! The lunch price is also really reasonable, especially for such good portions and quality.

Best Pad Thai in Houston

By Marta D |

I love Thai food and everywhere I go I look for this type of food. We had the best pad Thai I’ve had in a long, long time at this restaurant. Wow!

Awkward situation

By Laura D |

Food was average Thai food. Just be careful and check the bill carefully as they dont bring the paper bill until you pay on their terminal. So the waiter brings you the small screen terminal to see the items along with the totals. To see all the items, you have to scroll down on the terminal to check the items ordered and at the bottom totals are shown. and this becomes frustrating especially if you had multiple items ordered. In our case a 20% gratuity was already added and then when you are ready to sign, you see a screen asking you for adding TIP. Unless you already saw the Gratuity was added in the main bill , you are likely to add additional tips. In my opinion , the waiter should tell you the gratuity is added or dont show the additional screen asking for more tips.

Horrible

By n ick d |

Big crab fried rice fan. This location was closer to my residence than where I'd typically would go to get my fix. This was the worst I've ever tasted. My friends toddler even spit theirs out. I called the restaurant to give them the feedback. Was not asked by manager on duty why I felt it tasted so bad. Left with the since that they had no desire to improve quality DO NOT EAT THERE. There's a lot more better tasting Thai restaurants than this one.

Arrived with no reservation, and only the bar seating was available - great option and will be the preferred option on the next visit. Bar tender was amazing, funny, knowledgable, attentive…couldn’t ask for more. Last but absolutely not least..the food wasn’t great, it was better than great - just absolutely amazing…Highly recommend..

Food and service good, but overcharged on my bill.

By 24zenhen91 |

I visited the restaurant in June. I had no complaints about the restaurant until I received my Visa bill. Someone had added an extra $10 to my bill. I still had my receipt. So I called several times before anyone would talk to me. Finally about 3 weeks later someone returned my call. I told him the problem and that I could send a copy of the receipt if necessary. He said that would not be necessary. I asked him to just credit my VIsa. He said no, he would send me a check in the mail. I have never received the check. Even though it was not much money, this is a poor way to do business. I advise that if you eat here, you check your bill carefully and keep your receipt. I will not eat there again.

Bad customer relationships

By Adebola O |

The store has a bad habit of changing after ordering and wanted to make changes within the time frame the manager e wasn’t helpful had to abandon the food at the store with no refund and good customer service

Eat here

By waternut1973 |

Excellent food in a beautiful space ! Suchinda made the wonderful meal even better; she was so inviting and comfortable in suggesting drinks, then coming back to take our appetizer order, then more drinks, then order more food... etc. no hurry just enjoy yourselves! If you’re in Houston eat here.

Delicious

By Anjuli E |

This is a great Thai restaurant! Great service, cocktails and food. The lychee martinis were good; their margarita was excellent - spicy yet slightly sweet. The appies were good as were the mains and desserts. A great place to eat. Happy hour makes it even more affordable too!

Best Thai restaurant in Houston

By Ashok R |

Houston has a lot of great Thai food, but in my opinion no great Thai restaurant. A Thai food restaurant with great ambience, great service, an extensive (and affordable) wine and cocktail list to go along with the great food. Songkran fits the bill on all counts. Every dish is outstanding, but my personal favorites are the Heavenly Beef and Chicken Satay for appetizers, and the Green Curry Wagyu Beef, Lobster, Whole Snapper and Lamb Massaman for main courses. For dessert the white chocolate bread pudding is unlike anything I have ever had.

Speechless

By FNA009 |

I read great reviews on this restaurant so convinced a bunch of friends to go here!! Got a table outside as it was to full inside. Sat down took them a while to get us the menus finally we got them and we ordered. We had the red curry chicken , green curry chicken, pad Thai, chicken satay, two kids meals and a tum yum soup. The kids meals were satay on a rice we got satay with the veggie spring rolls cookies in a bento tray no rice. When our food came everything came but the soup which was supposed to come before the main meal.then arrived red curry - duck hmm we ordered chicken!!! The waiter said he would go back and put in the order for chicken!! But by the time that came out everyone was already done with their meal and were ready to leave !!! Hmmmmmmm no compensation nothing !!! Plus the food didn't taste as authentic as they had made it seem in the reviews!! I prefer Thai Siam hands down!!! Just came back from Thailand and this was no where and I mean no wear close! Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!!!

A Viable and Excellent Choice for Thai Food in Houston

By JayPFrancis |

(Disclaimer: I am a member of the Houston Food Bloggers Collective and our group was invited to come sample a variety of dishes at Songkran Thai Kitchen in October 2015. The food was wonderful, thus, this very thumbs up review. I am already looking forward to dining here again. It will be my new default for the Thai crispy fish dish that my wife and I enjoy so much.) Chillies came to Thailand with the Portuguese in the 16th century. Prior to that time, heat would have come from black pepper, galangal (kha) and ginger. But the whole world embraced the chillies from Central and South America quickly. As others have said here, the food here is excellent. I took some time to chat with the chef and had a question. "What is the difference between Thai and Lao cooking." Chef Jett had an interesting answer for me, one that also helped me understand his approach to the dishes being offered at Songkran. "You have to understand Thai street food versus Thai home cooking. (and how food has evolved over the years in Thailand). But with street food you have all the influence of Thailand, Cambodia, Laos. People came and opened up small restaurants next to street food and this food was spicy. And it influenced street food and back and forth. So all these years go by in Thailand and food evolves and changes and tourists go to Thailand, eating street food and thinking, 'Ah', that's Thai food!. Yes. It's absolutely Thai food but influenced over the years by other cultures. But Thai food, not all of it is spicy." I have had quite a few Thai dishes that were simple wok stir fries with not much heat. The waiter explained their chillies rating system. If mild, ask for 1. 2 gets you a slightly hotter jalapeño/serrano heat. 3 would be lower scale Thai heat. And 4 would be more chillies for more heat. Having the opportunity to sample such a wide variety of dishes coming out of the kitchen, I would like to recommend the following as your best choices when dining here. Appetizers: Larb Gai chicken lettuce wrap Pad Hoi mussels with red curry Nuer Nam Tok steak with shallot Pad Ped Pla fish with chili and makrut lime leaf Tow Hou Tod turnip cake Entrees: Tow Hou Pad Prik tofu with chillies Pad Phet Thua green beans with chillies Pla Sam Ros whole red snapper Neua Siam braised (very tender) beef with herbs Kang Phet Ped Yang crispy duck with red curry and pineapple And for dessert, Lychee and Jackfruit creme brûlée

Dinner - twice

By PandaExperience |

Excellent. The dinner was so good we went back twice in a week. Thai soup. The deep fried salmon was delicious and the presentation was outstanding. All the other guests had different dishes and all were just wonderful. The service was also just right. We sat outside on the patio. If you like Thai, Songkran is a must. We will be back next week.

Beautiful meals did not taste as well as they looks.

By C_J_CCTx |

The two vegan choices were good (pud thai and ??). A fish/shrimp/mussel dish in a broth was very fishy, and barely touched by the three meateaters. I have had much better in tiny hole in the wall places. Very nice romantic layout, and a delightful waitress. Upscale prices but not upscale food.

Small portion, but undeniable deliciousness

By Blimey2010 |

I had lunch here with some colleagues and our client. The food was very good. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Not overly spicy like some thai places, but you get the kick that is needed. Portion is small like other restaurants in the uptown/ Galleria area. Nothing to complain about as everything was just right.

Disappointing food, misleading menu

By Bad-Horse |

After reading the glowing reviews we went to Songkran hoping for some great Thai food. What we got was slow service and downright average food. Not terrible, but no better than many Thai restaurants I've visited around the country. Songkran features a relatively limited menu and higher than average prices. If you're vegetarian, be careful here. We ordered a vegetarian dish only to be asked later whether fish sauce was okay as an ingredient. If our server hadn't checked with us I'm sure the kitchen would have prepared this supposedly vegetarian dish with a decidedly non-vegetarian ingredient.

Songkran Thai Restaurant

By Calondra B.♥️ |

This was my first visit to a Thai restaurant. I called first and was told limited restaurant capacity and to go orders were available w/indoor waiting area. It’s important to note, we discussed the spice level in normally spicy food. It certainly came in handy. The first thing I noticed was the incredible aroma when I walked in!!!! It made you want to come in and kick your shoes off, during a pandemic, no less!! Guests were seated in patio seating but none inside the clean medium sized restaurant. There was a short wait for my order. The waiter highly recommended their fried rice during my the next visit. Excellent Uptown Thai choice!!🌟🌟🌟

Good food slow service

By UHcougarBdaygirl |

Food was top notch and appropriately prices for the area, however I feel I get better service out in Houston's china town. I'm not sure if service was slow because of a large party but I felt for the three dishes we ordered it was just too slow. Had the green curry with spicy level 3. It was perfectly spicy -make your eyes water and mouth burn just the right amount. While the food was delicious, I wouldn't necessarily make trip out of china town just to have Thai food here. Valet parking or self parking are available.

Authentic cuisine, lovely outside seating, few dishes without fish sauce

I enjoyed dinner here with a friend. The outside patio seating was lovely--they really did a lot with a breezeway between strip mall shops. We happened to eat on Wine Down Thursday where certain -good- bottles of wine were half price. The service was excellent. The food was authentic and delicious. My only complaint is that authentic Thai food is made with fish sauce, so for someone like me who is allergic to fish and shellfish, there were few dishes I could eat (and no curries - sad). My friend's shrimp dish was too fishy, she said. And the shrimp were served heads on which grossed her out. Maybe a little Americanization wouldn't be a bad thing?

Great dinner out!

By Beverly P |

My husband and I were looking for something different for our rare date night out. This place was great!! We had the lettuce wraps and crispy veggie spring rolls, lemongrass soup, garlic shrimp, and yellow curry chicken. Everything was delicious and the wait staff was attentive and friendly. Try the Thai creme brûlée for dessert - very good!!

Disappointed

By Carinimattia@yahoo.it |

If you are searching for authentic Thai food, don't choose this restaurant. You will be disappointed.

Loved it!

By Zelillem |

Still one of my fave lunch spots for great Thai fusion while enjoying a beautiful ambience. Food and drinks were excellent and great service as always.

First time here and coming back again!!!!

By Randy P |

Oh wow... food was excellent, service was excellent, atmosphere was excellent. Songkran is now in our top three favorite places to eat.

Sunday Eating

By Philsgreat |

Nice, cozy place with a friendly outdoor area. The service was decent with a reasonable wait time for our food. The dishes we choose were nothing spectacular, but we enjoyed it all the same. Overall good experience. It's worth checking out at least once.

Really good food. Hip space. Music. Vibe.

By BusinessPr0fessi0nal |

What a fun surprise. Food impeccable. Flavors superb. Very elegant space yet casual clothes ok. Vibe is modern. Try it. You'll like it.

Delicious Thai Food

By Karin F |

My daughter and I found this place during a visit to Houston from Dallas and decided to try it. The inside decor was warm and cozy but we were in shorts and tee shirts and thought it would be too cold so we sat outside. The patio was nice and the food was very good. My daughter is Chinese and wasn't sure what to order. We had two noodle dishes (Pad Thai and a beef with broccoli). Both were outstanding. The favorite thing was the dessert - sticky rice with mango. We ordered two more to go and are going to eat them for breakfast in the morning! Our waiter was warm and friendly - the place was not crowded (Monday night) which was nice. It was a little on the expensive side but for the quality it was worth it.

Nice restaurant, good food, poor service

By paxa |

Nice restaurant in an outdoor mall. Lots of parking although the spaces right in front were saved for valet. Moody dim lights, exposed red brick walls, dark furniture and Asian decor (half of the wall in the back has a big face of the Buddha in deep red colors). Seating fairly well spaced although the two tops in the middle are slightly rectangular so when two sitting opposite can feel kind of far apart from each other. Good food, well prepared and presented - the pad Thai cooked just the right texture. The strawberry mojito was fabulous. Service could use improvement however. There was more than half an hour between when we finished our appetizers and getting entrees but no one bothered to update us on our order status. We finally had to ask where our food was and were told "we have a big party over there and they ordered before you" - not even the least bit apologetic about the delay. Clearly the kitchen had problems handling any kind of volume (place was about 70 percent full) but the worst part was the attitude that you shouldn’t expect food to be served in a timely manner. That plus our waitress getting our orders mixed up twice kind of spoiled what could have been a much more enjoyable evening.

After a few yrs stopped by again same food the heavenly beef I always order has good flavor. Parking is tough but it's worth it

The best

By Maity F |

I highly recommend it since at lunch time they have a lot of variety and the prices are affordable and the food is super exquisite and good. I recommend it whether you are alone with friends or with family.

Not so good

By Toro9 |

Came in for early dinner. Waitress suggested the whole fried snapper. We asked if it was fresh and she said yes. It wasn’t. In fact it was over-fried and very tough. We suspect it was frozen before. Yuk. Also tried a beef appetizer, it too was fried and very tough. At least the pad Thai was somewhat decent, but small portion and way too much peanut sauce throughout. Very strange meal because the setting is nice and the service decent, but the food did not match the surroundings. We will not be back.

THAI ONE ON HERE

By Jim O |

Lunch was very good. The spicy, moderate, etc. ratings were perfectly on target. Service was very good and prices very decent for lunch. I have had lunch here twice now and both times were very good. I'm not a Curry person but my guest was and said the Curry dish was great as well.

Can be so much better, great outdoor seating

By efustok |

I was hoping to give this place a higher rating, it was on my list of places I wanted to try. Unfortunately it was not what I hoped it would be. Some things were really good, and others have potential to be better....I have hope they can tweak a few things to make me want to return and try it again. For started the egg rolls, and tofu were good, no issues there, but the salad and soup that come with the lunch special were no bueno to say the least...the dressing was thick may almost, and the soup had very little flavor...I have had some amazing Thai soups in my time, I do not know how this could go so wrong. The mains were mixed...my vegetables with panang sauce was really the worst I have ever had....no flavor, the consistency was a little too liquidy, and the veggies were charred....my brother ordered the salmon with the brussels sprouts, now that was amazing...I do not like writing bad reviews, I always hope they help than hurt, so that they can work on it.

Thai food

By ManiPenny |

It is a lovely restaurant in a very good location. I thought food was ok. But one must go at least once to experience the place. We had ordered Red curry that was ok, spring rolls - Good and chilli basil fried rice was ok . I have heard good things about this restaurant but our experience was ok not great.

Brilliant

Very good Restaurant and really good Service and the owner very nice Guy. I will go Here every weil because its sooo darn good

Dark, Cosy and Delicious!

By Grimaud |

The whole fish is a delight! Crispy and flakey - the presentation is a joy to behold. Some of the best jasmine rice I have ever been served. They have tables outside for dining as well. I wish the dessert menu had been a little more diverse. Staff is friendly and polite - ambient lighting is charming.

Very loud, slow service, food just ok

By Ss |

First a time here, lunch at 1:30 Thurs, restaurant was full and so loud and noisy that I could not hear my friends across the table. I think it is because everything is hard surface - floors, walls, ceiling, - no upholstery or fabric/wood anywhere to soften noise. And everyone was talking louder and louder to communicate. Service was very slow. We had to ask the bus boy to get our waitress several times, even after 2PM when it restaurant was less full. The grilled chicken was tender but my “crispy” fish was drowning in overly sweet sticky sauce. The fish filet was mush with not texture or flavor. During lunch I kept smelling an odd lemon/flower/disinfectant scent which overpowered the food smells. Afterwards I found the source of the odor in the ladies restroom which was behind us at the rear of the restaurant — the restroom air freshener was so intense/strong that I literally gagged and held my breath!

Not sure how this was voted best new Thai restaurant .

By 007twister |

Went to eat at Songkran in Uptown Park during the week for dinner without reservations and saw lots of empty tables, but we're told we had to sit outside in the patio under a heater. The staff was very friendly and our waiter knowledgable about the menu. We were all disappointed with food. I had the pawns and it tasted very greasy . Also taste the Pad Thai and it was so so. This was my second time eating there and not sure if I'll go back.

Dinner

By PandaExperience |

The food was excellent. We sat outside and listened to the fountain while eating. Ann, the waitress was polite and made good suggestions on what to eat. The food was presented with style. I always have a Thai curry but this time as suggested I had a traditional Thai dish that was not curry based. Good. I has flam with lichi. Good.

Great food and service

By JBlueS |

My family of five with kids 14-19 sat outside for our first time here and had a great meal. We had five appetizers in order to try new things; all were good, but we liked the chicken satay so much that we ordered two more orders. Yes, we sound like pigs, but it was really good! We also had five entrees, three of which were rice and noodle dishes (one was Pad Thai (sp?), says my wife. We used to eat at Gigi's for special occasions and love the crab fried rice, which is exactly the same. Everything was good; wish I could give you more details. Friendly staff and great service. We'll go back soon, I hope. Highly recommended.

Trendy decor but expensive food.

By CoppellTraveller |

Well I hit them right at 3pm. Hostess lays down the lunch menu with about 4 other menus, but the server tells me lunch is over, but I can get a dinner portion. Ok fine, except that at $16.50 I got a small lunch portion. Table next to me also complains that lunch menu is not available, but too early to get happy hour pricing that starts at 4pm. I only had gang garee gai or on their menu kang kari. Top it off that the food was not really all that great either makes me think I will not revisit this place. Less is More here, but not in the right way.

Amazing high-end Thai cuisine at an affordable price

By Christian Tidona |

I go to Songkran whenever I am in Houston. This is clealy the best high-end Thai cuisine outside of Thailand. My favorite dishes are the heavenly beef, the soft shell crab, and the Thai sliders - a must-have for anyone who loves good food. And you should not miss the lychee martini.

Somgkran Thai - fabulous Thai food in uptown Park. .

By Explore617732 |

Outstanding food. Great ambiance and staff. Great covered outdoor seating when the weather is nice.

Good dessert, curry is overpriced

By Livelovelaugh55 |

We love Thai food. Decided to give this place a try. Their prices are a little higher than most of our go to Thai restaurants. Spring rolls were tasty but comparable to any others, panang curry was tiny and too dry( 6 shrimp with side of white rice and no extra sauce for the rice). We found it expensive at $21 for that amount of food. The bread pudding was amazing. Would not come back here unless I only wanted dessert.

very unique place with pretty authenic thai food

By skylanders |

Every Thai place does Pad Thai a little different this was good but not quite spicey enough, tried other items that I was not used to and loved them, service little slow but I think he was new and nervous, got better as time went on. I would go back, outside seating, great atmosphere and friendly people.

Quick Lunch

By Krista K |

Songkran has great food and a nice laid back atmosphere. The server was friendly and knowledgable and took great care of us. The shrimp pad Thai was awesome and the portion was huge. Will definitely return soon!

Terrible Thai Kitchen

By LathasLover |

Very bland and poor taste Thai food. We went there during the holidays to try out this place based on a recommendation from our friend. Very bland and pricey. If you like real spicy Thai food, this is *not* the place!! Not recommended!!

Awesome Thai Food in the Galleria

By Morgan S |

I have always had a delicious experience here, although the serving room is quite small. It also offers beautiful outdoor seating.

Good Thai Food, excellent service

By DaSensei |

I was looking for a place for lunch and decided to try Songkran. There is actually a sister location in Sugarland called Songkran Thai Grill. The food was excellent, the lunch came with soup, salad and the main entrée. The Thai ice tea was good and I had the Lychee and Jackfruit Creme Brulee with banana rolls...hmmmm. The atmosphere was good, loved the decor and the staff was very friendly and prompt. They made sure everything was fine and to our liking.

Beautiful authentic thai food

Good Thai Restaurant

By Rich |

Excellent Food Great Service .The menu had a full range of Thai curries and other dishes. The prawn yellow curry was delicious with lots of fresh prawns

DELICIOUS THAI

By EMILE D |

Thai food with a small menu, but with a good variety of dishes. I recommend the Red Snapper fish. Medium range prices. Good service from personnel.

Great addition to Houston restaurant scene

By Jackinhouston |

Amazing food and spectacular ambience. They are in their soft opening phase and I expect service will improve over the next few weeks. We tried several dishes at Songkran and all items were delicious. I have traveled to Thailand several times and the food here is authentic and very flavorful. Great work and good luck!

Sunday Thai lunch

By anamib2014 |

Excellent food. Had a glass of Chablis which went very well with the cuisine. Notable mention needs to be made of the soft shell crab appetizer and whole red snapper, wagyu beef curry and Maine lobster with prawns curry.

Excellent thai cuisine

By Christian Tidona |

Whenever I am in town in Houston, I go to Songkran. The heavenly beef, the softshell crab, and the lychee martinis are my favorites. Outstanding thai cuisine and very friendly team always taking good care. Highly recommended.

Tasty but Pricey

By CaliTexan22 |

We noticed that this had taken the space of frozen yogurt place and dropped in on a Monday night. I had the green curry with chicken and my wife had the pad thai. Both were good. You can dial-in the hotness level on the curry and 3 seemed about right to me. Service was erratic, and they were not particularly busy. The dishes were $15-18, which seems high for Houston. We would try it again.

Good Choice

By nacholalo |

Visitited with work colleagues in a sales trip. Arrived almost at closing time but generously they opened the kitchen and service. Good variety and flavors, clean and interesting platters. Good beers and assorted. Good choice!

Very nice thai food - but pricy

By Michella M |

I really like this place. The food is fresh and very nice - however it is a bit pricy - i would maybe recommend going for lunch during the weekdays to get a good offer.

Lockdown dance

By AUSAGUY007 |

There food is still consistent as before. The salad has a nutty creamy taste... The meat is spicy and salty... They don't give u alot but it's good The bar is never really full.

Thai food

By Bg442 |

I have been many Thai restaurants including New York, and even London. The quality of the meat was excellent. Beef in most places is tough but this was melt in your mouth beef. Although I would say it is not Thai street food. The dish came with a side of jalapeño peppers, fish sauce and red pepper flakes ( the kind that come in packages with your pizza delivery). You are not asked how spicy. In some Thai places they have a sauce with lemon, rice vinegar, and Thai pepper slices to add. Not here. Overall it was good flavorful Thai. The music was loud. But the restaurant was clean and service friendly and good.

Stays excellent

By PandaExperience |

When a restaurant is good and stays consistently good it is worth returning. The soup is excellent. I also had the tofu yelllow curry, excellent. Shrimp Pad Thai, excelllent. Fish, excellent. The service was spot on and attentive.

Great food and service

By Janet D |

Arrive early! We went for a work lunch and it was wonderful, we were well taken care of. I like I was asked how spicy I liked it. We were served both soup and salad with our meal.

Exact

By Itis I |

Reminded me of the street food I ate in Bangkok. Precise and flavorful. Service knew how the dishes were madw.

Very average food at exorbitant prices

By LathasLover |

We had some sea food and fried rice. They were bland and very average in taste. I think people come here for the location and ambience than for food. We will never go back again.

Great Thai Food in a Great Setting

By Tom F |

Songkran is a Thai food aficionado's dream. The food is excellent, the service is very good, excellent indoor and outdoor seating options and the prices are very reasonable

Excellent Food and Attentive Service

By B8978LXmaryb |

This was our first visit to Songkran and we were delighted with both the food and the service. The flavours were authentic, spicy and delicious. There was a variety of textures and tastes in all the dishes. We finished the meal with coconut ice cream which did not disappoint. All in all a wonderful meal and we will definitely return.

Very Good

By D T |

The seafood was fresh and very tasty. The curry dishes we had were not the usual curry-cream soup. They were both excellent. Service was great.

nice thai food

By plaz |

Excellent thai food, close to galleria, great curries, prices are cheap, and the pad thai was great,

Pretty good food and great service

By Lord_Lennius |

Staff were extremely attentive and engaged. Orders came appropriately quickly even though the rest was busy. A little noisy for quiet conversation. The Thai dishes were pretty good but not great. The lamb curry was amazing. The pad thai was just ok but then that is a dish that is a challenge for many restaurants. The Heavenly Beef appetizer was very good, and I am not a big beef eater. Tasty and very tender. So that, and the lamb curry were the highlights for our table of 6.

Excellent!!!

By vasco q |

OMG! The food was amazing! I had the crispy whole snapper with three flavor sauce... To die for! I also tasted the curry and it was super delicious! Cocktails were good too. Service was amazing. I am looking forward to visiting again and trying other items on the menu. ☺️👍

Best Thai food

By Houstonjshouston |

Nice ambience, excellent service, delicious food. Don’t forget to try the crispy snapper. We celebrated a birthday with a sparkler. The bar attendant was so accommodating , made a lime soda with salt for one of the guests. Great restaurant.

Excellent food - a little casual on masks but at least in the zone

By Pepper |

This restaurant has nice ambience and excellent food. Good sized portions as well, so don't worry about being hungry, We had the green curry- very flavorful with nice coconut aroma pervading the dish and one of the best Pad Thai dishes I have had. Sticky rice was lovely too- the mango was perfectly ripe and it was a big serving. We stayed on the mild side - and so it was easy eating as well. Good serice- but we had to tell our waiter to keep pulling his mask over his nose, not under it!

Disappointed

By Gloria T |

The restaurant came highly recommended to us so I couldn't wait to have the same experience my friends had. It was warm evening so we opted to sit outside. That was a mistake because it was a little too blustery and not much of a view. I ordered the Kang khew waan. The curry was good but the chicken was overcooked and rubbery. My dinner partner ordered the Panang Goong and loved it. I'm not sure why my chicken was so bad but it was and said I so. The waitress took it back to the kitchen after I suggested that they try it themselves and they did, and came back with apologies. They didn't charge me for the dish, and offered to make another but I refused. At the end I had a coffee and settled for a late night sandwich at my hotel. Bummer.

Kylie at Songkran is the absolute Best!!! She is patient, kind, and awesome personality!!! Her drinks are unforgettable!!!! Go on Mondays ask for the Passion Fruit and Expresso Martinis on Mondays

Got lucky when we picked this restaurant!

By Cdlake10 |

We stopped in for dinner without reservations or looking at reviews and had a great dinner! Service was great, everyone's meal (6 of us) were delicious. I was visiting but would go back if I lived in Houston.

quick lunch

By Graham w |

We were served quickly, and efficiently, a sangria not on menu produced. The sauces such as red curry were very tasty but the duck piece provided for dish was tough and small. expensive for what it gave,

Average food but nice setting

By chrisconsul |

Encouraged by good reviews we went there for lunch and as a friend of Asian food I was not really delighted.......we ordered 2 lunch dishes, service was fast and nice, but the food was real average, in my opinion not real authentic, more customized for western taste and not really tasty! We were a little bit disappointed and hopefully we gonna get more authentic Thai food next time! The place and the staff were really ok...

Great Early Dinner

By Stephen T |

Three of us visited this evening and had excellent dinner. Mixture of starters with fish cakes, soup all great, we had a selection of curries all of which were great. I certainly recommend the place and will happily return on my next visit to Houston.

Mixed review

By houstontravelingfool |

Took a friend there for her birthday lunch. She had the green chicken curry and enjoyed it. I had chicken pad Thai and it was just OK. Nothing special. Since we ordered the lunch specials they both came with soup and salad. The salad was mixed greens with a very nice dressing. The soup, a cabbage and vegetable broth, could have used a bit more seasoning. Had raspberry sorbet for dessert, which was good and refreshing. Liked the ambience - and the restaurant was full. Very hard to have a conversation, though, because of the acoustics.

Excellent!

By Vinay |

Great food! Brian was excellent! Thank you for bringing this cuisine to Houston. We love coming here. Highly recommended for Thai food.

Noisy

By klinka L |

Food was delicious but staff and kitchen were very noisy which made a quiet lunch not great. So silly to say that it must be so many characters. I have said what I want to say

Nice spot!

By K A |

Stimson helped my friend and I have a very relaxing catch-up. He’s such a great server and everything from drinks, apps and food was amazing. The outdoor patio is very nice too! Definitely adding this one to the list!

Nice but expensive

By Katia P |

We went for lunch. Pretty good food, we had mussels and curry. The bill was around $60 (2 appetizets, 2 lunch entrees and 2 coffees). They offer different levels for spicyness (1 to 4), i like low spicy and asked for 1, turns out i should've asked for level 2. I think level 1 is like non- spicy. Interior is elegant and cozy.

Surprising find in Uptown

By Susan Y |

Tucked in - not easy to find- but worth it. Great service, extensive menu. They were willing to tone done the spice for me which is much appreciated. Not my favorite Thai place - but will return.

Overpriced but still worth it

By enur1979 |

Lots of flavour and interesting cocktail menu. Staff was under training. Outside area is a little bit backyardish and could be redone with more charm.

Ok..nice setting

By Dr. Barbara Sun... M |

Our waiter was kind and informative. The food is good, although a bit pricey. We would have liked a little larger serving, so that we could share the appetizers.

Tasty Food

By Regina Fuga.te🎈 |

Our waitress, Cindy was very helpful in suggesting dishes. Having been to Thailand, we find Songkran's flavors to be fairly accurate. They have a very good selection of wines by the glass. I am sorry that they do not offer Papaya salad, a mainstay of Thai cuisine. Pleased with our meal.

Best Thai food in Houston!

By magdak13 |

I have eaten lots of Thai food but this restaurant goes beyond. The tastes were exceptional, I really loved the coconut green curry. Service was good and friendly. One negative point though, they didn't had the wine we wanted to order, neither had they or next choice. The "sommelier" didn't really know what he was talking about. We ended up having beers...

"Celebration with Thai"

By Khushboo_Golyan |

We were here for our Anniversary and the food was delightfully yummy. From the presentation to the taste all was well. They have a separate vegetarian menu to choose from and it's a decent choice.

Amaaaaazing thai food (from someone who has lived in Thailand). Wagyu is stunning! Creme brulee delicious. Best spring rolls i have ever had. Perfectly crunchy. Highly suggest this place for a good meal.

Work Lunch

By Craig W |

Heard positive things about this place and decided to try it out. Seating was available inside but we were seated outside. Heater was turned in due to it being cool but buy the time we left it seemed heater ran out of gas. We ordered Pad Thai, yellow curry and the green curry. When asking about flavor and spice, we went one step about "Chef recommendation" for the Pad Thai and found it very mild still. Service was a little slow once we ordered and it took a long time to get our bill. Overall good food but not great.
