Sorry we're closed!

By Jon B |

Don't advertise on your website that your open until 10 and then send people packing at 9.30! We were looking forward to experiencing a real Texas BBQ and were told this was a good place to go. Guess we'll just never know but after making the journey to be turned away on a Friday night is very poor.

Dry meat

By Jenni O. |

I was excited to eat the local cuisine. The side items were wonderful, I was disappointed that the smoked meats were a bit dry. I had to really sauce them up.

Nice Lunch, Odd Space

By MKB1701 |

We came here for lunch after seeing it featured on Man Vs. Food, although we ended up at the one near Dealey Plaza. With 4 steep stairs leading up to the restaurant and an elevator to sketchy bathrooms, the layout leaves a lot to be desired. Not much seating is available, and the room is devoid of ambiance whatsoever. Thankfully, the 'cue was quite good - had a great sausage, good pulled pork, and some excellent ribs that were clearly grilled. Only complaint was that my wife's pulled chicken was rather salty. Sides were nice, and at 10.95 for a three meat plate, you could do a lot worse. It's counter service and you get your own beverages. For a quick lunch, you get a lot of good food for a good price. Just don't look at the unappealing space and focus on the tasty meats before you and you'll do well.

Tried to like it

By Worldtravel769 |

Went here with some friends for supper one night and just wasn’t impressed. Had pulled pork, brisket and pulled chicken, but nothing really had any flavor. Also sat outside and between the homeless passers by begging money and the Dallas motorcycle cop riding up and down the side walk, it didn’t make for an enjoyable eating experience. I cannot recommended eating here.

Good wings

By Hershelle G |

Always hesitant when ordering lemon pepper wings, but the wings and the fries were really good. Nice location down town, get for people watching.

Pretty Good Brisket!

By Jane G |

I had supper here on a recent trip to Dallas and I enjoyed both the traditional brisket and the Hill Country brisket. I was curious about the difference and my waiter was great at explaining it. It was tender and good with their bbq sauce (or without it). I chose the coleslaw and green bean casserole as my sides and both were quite good. The restaurant itself is in a nice area with other restaurants and the building feels like old Texas. The guys working there were all very nice and fun to watch. They made sure everyone felt welcomed and well-served. If I lived in Dallas, I could see this becoming one of my go to places for brisket.

Decent foos

By Alexandra M |

The food was good. This wasn't the best bbq I've ever had but it was still good. I did a half pound plate. I had the pulled pork, brisket, ribs, mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. They were all good but not the best I've ever had.

Last night out in Dallas

By merger95 |

Spent the day in a conference hall and needed a casual place to chill and eat some good barbeque and we found it here at Sonny Bryan's. The server, Darryl, was very friendly and thorough. The selection was plentiful, the beer was cold and the food was amazing. I tried my first fried okra and it was quite tasty. The brisket and pulled pork were fabulous, too full to try dessert but they looked to have a nice selection.

Great place for lunch downtown

By FranklinDcat |

Looking for some Texas BBQ downtown that is delicious and memorable?  This place has the goods! Their BBQ is mouth watering especially the pulled pork and ribs. Their sauce is tasty as well. Went in for the lunchtime special (varies by day) but just ended up getting a sandwich with two sides meal deal. The price was about  $25 for 2 people but you are paying for the nice atmosphere, clean and convenient downtown location paired with great service. It's totally worth it from my tourist perspective.  I've since been on to eat BBQ in Kansas City and Oklahoma and if Sonny Bryans is up there with OK Joe's and  Fiorella's Jack Stack. Well worth it.

Yummy BBQ

By Susan B |

We enjoyed our BBQ at Sonny Bryan's. Large portions- decent prices and they do have a kids menu. Cool West End location and our kids really liked watching the commuter trains go by. Service was really good.

Glad we stopped

By Carol B |

Stopped here on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. The decor is average but the music playing is good country music. We had the pulled pork, jalapeno and cheddar sausage and beans. my husband and I enjoyed it all. The service is very quick so would be a good place to go for lunch or dinner, if you are hungry or don't have a lot of time.

Great bbq joint

By TnBB |

Nothing fancy, just really good bbq at reasonable prices with excellent wait staff, we stopped here on a whim and left extremely full and satisfied.

Good BBQ

By JOHAN F |

Good BBQ, not so impressive but the cost is quite cheap and the size of the plate is more than ok...

Not the place to get Texas BBQ

By Jen B |

Big disappointment. Looked like a great place to go (read "World Famous" on sign). Ordered the "famous" onion rings as appetizer and they were HORRIBLE!! Burker King has better. Our bbq and loaded baked potato were just ehh. Nothing tasty.

Okay food and service

By climber_in_CH |

So I'm thinking 'Texas-must eat BBQ' and this place was recommended by the fellow at the Dealy Plaza Museum. We went for dinner and found it just okay. The brisket was a little dry and everything could have been hotter. The complimentary rolls as starter was very nice, very fresh. Fried okra was crunchy overcooked, could hardly spear some of the little buggers. Service was okay too. Not what I had hoped for considering this was Texas!

BBQ delicious and reasonably priced

By Lori C |

The restaurant is very casual as you order at the counter and your meal is then brought to you. Ordered the smaller combo plate, which included 3 meat selections and sides. This was plenty to eat, cannot image the larger size combo! The brisket was my favorite but it was all good. Enjoyed the sides as well. Thought the prices were reasonable for the large amount of food. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Being from Virginia, found their BBQ to be spicy, which was not a bad thing!

My only meal of the day

By Swedeborger75 |

I braved the weather in Dallas yesterday. I figured I couldn’t go wrong with bbq in Dallas, but I have to say my food was not very good. I got a combo plate with three meats, mashed potatoes and gravy, and some bbq beans. My meats were brisket, pulled pork, and some chicken off the bone. I did receive a large enough portion. The beans were a little hard and didn’t taste very good either. Mashed potatoes were the best part of the meal. I asked for and received extra lean brisket. I was surprised at the total lack of flavor of all the meats. Thankfully the sauce was ok. I was really hungry, yet the food still wasn’t very good. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all.

Welcome to Texas, Have Some BBQ

By AmateurSpiceMan |

I was excited to find BBQ near my hotel, and carried out a 3-meat combo plate back to my room. Sides of mac and beans were 3-4 out of 5. Meats were a 5. There were generous quantities of sausage, brisket & pulled pork, and extra sauce in a small cup. Nothing survived - I was hungry and appreciate good BBQ. Worth a stop next time.

Love the Smoke Sausage!

By BigJohn1976 |

If you love eating smoked meats, then give Sonny Bryan's a try. I had the smoked ham, briscuit and sausage. All were excellent but the sausage was my favorite. Great service and a friendly atmosphere!

Average

By Tommy B |

Chose this place because I didnt want to wait in lines at other bbq joints. There was no waiting whatsoever. Staff friendly and price and portion size fair. Smokey flavor, but not strong. Only one bbq sauce available. Meat was average, sides tasted as if they were bought, not fresh made. I had sliced brisket, chopped brisket and pulled pork with beans and potatoe salad. There was frozen ice crystals in the potatoe salad, wasnt fully thawed. The smokey flavor of the meat saved this review from poor.

Good BBQ

By Neilvegas |

I saw a spot on Sonny Bryan's on either the travel channel or food network. I wanted to try it the next time I was in Dallas and I wasn't disappointed. Great variety and good sized portions. Yum

Don’t even think about it

By Madhatter1149 |

My wife and myself ordered a 3 meat plate each. We both had ribs which were barely passable. They turkey was so dry it tasted a week old. Smoked sausage was plain jane. The sliced and chopped brisket started tasting ok but was worse with each bite. Sides were green bean casserole (horrible). Mac and cheese (unedible). Coleslaw was ok. Beans I couldn’t eat. Overall it was the worst meal we had in years.

Authentic Texas BBQ

By Greg G |

We ate at Sonny Bryans BBQ in the west old town part of Dallas! Great smoked brisket and great lemonade! This is REAL Texas BBQ slow smoked! I would recommend it to all!

Terrific Turkey Marvelous Meat, Best BBQ

By Texas_Travel_1 |

Terrific Turkey Marvelous Meat, Best BBQ Sonny Bryan's is the West End location for Texas BBQ. The meats are what makes this restaurant special. While I prefer the moist turkey, you will find Chopped or Sliced Beef Brisket, Pork Sausage, Jalapeño Sausage, Pulled Pork, Pulled Chicken, Ham, and yes Turkey. My favorite side is the green bean casserole. Small/side salads can also be ordered. Staff is always friendly. Unless the line is out the door and down the sidewalk, the food is served promptly. Bread rolls were included.

Good BBQ

By Jinsong H |

I didn't like brisk as much as other people but I liked sausage with jalapeno, pork ribs and several other meats. The bread was delicious. Mac and cheese and potato salad was really good.

Decent BBQ, great fresh rolls

By David N |

This is a good place to get a quick BBQ meal if you are downtown near Dealey Plaza. I have eaten here a number of times. Some times are better than others. It does not have a convenient bathroom (you have to go downstairs and it is a bit confusing). But they have a variety of BBQ offerings and you can usually get pretty fast service. I went twice on this trip. The last time they were out of turkey and bone-in chicken, so that was a bit of disappointment. I really like the Jalapeño sausage and turkey here. They always bring a warm bottle of BBQ sauce with your meal. I especially appreciate their freshly baked rolls. The service staff is helpful and kind.

A fine ribs @Dallas downtown

By GBalderrama |

We ate here first thing after arriving @ Dallas due to a recommendation, and I’m glad we did so. Fine ribs they serve here, and the best buns I’ve tried so far! I totally recommend this restaurant, the classic texan BBQ!

The ribs not so good

By Dannaz47 |

Downtown for a convention. I have to try ribs whenever I have BBQ and these were sad. The sides were good. The onion rings excellent but the ribs were poor, dry and very trimmed less meat than usual for ribs that are not baby back. The sauce was fair but I don't think I would go out of my way for the ribs here

Onion rings

By Vickey B |

Love onion rings, but the ones they serve are horrible, dipped in a flat bread crust. The beans are to Spicy, pulled pork and sliced brisket lacked flavor. I would not recommend eating here at DFW airport Terminal E

Good Stuff

By Scott S |

This place doesn't look like much but the food is what it is all about. I had the bbq platter with ribs, brisket and sausage. All of it was great. There is an air conditioned room adjacent to the restaurant where eating is much more comfortable.

One word...damn!

By Russell M |

Another place we visited on the merit of Man Vs Food (although there are 3 located in Dallas) The home made BBQ is to die for, pulled pork and brisket will be tough to choose from so we got one of each and split it Friendly waitresses and the cookies for dessert were fresh, warm and soft

Very Good!

By shbruss |

Stopped in here while in Dallas. We had pulled chicken, pulled pork and brisket. Everything was great!! Also tried the onion rings and they were delicious—nice big onions and not a ridiculous amount of batter.

Great Lunch

By Richard H |

Although not as rustic as the original Sonny's location, the atmosphere is welcoming with the brick walls and wood floors. Servers are friendly and attentive. Meats are well prepared and sides (potatoes, slaw, fries) are delicious. Consistent fare!

Great BBQ

By sjdobie |

Went for lunch with two colleagues. Service was fast and very friendly. Our meals were terrific. We each had the 1/2 pound lunch with a choice of 3 meats and 2 sides. We added a side of their onion rings. Everything was terrific. Added an ice cold beer and it was an excellent lunch...in and out in 30 minutes and very satisified.

This is NOT BarBQue

By david k |

I should have known you cant get barbque in a downtown restaurant. The ribs are obviously "marked" and then baked. Not sure how they cook the sausage, but it didn't spend any time on a BBQ pit. The brisket was tender (and baked). The onion rings were very good. I should have just ordered onion rings. As a side note, I was very uncomfortable walking around downtown Dallas. They need to do something about the homeless population and the smell of pee around Dealey Plaza.

Great lunch!

By MarieGB |

Walked here after a visit to a local museum and the barbecue was really filling and tasty. Our party of 8 had the brisket sandwiches, ribs and chicken salad plate. The warm barbecue sauce brought to our table was very tasty on our meals. Service was fast and friendly and we would for sure dine here again! Prices were good for the amount of food and quality you get.

Good Eat and Close to Attractions Downtown

By Jeremy Tisdale |

Overall we had a good meal, but it could have been better. Had the Brisket and it was good just did not have a lot of flavor. Wife got the pulled pork and it was much better. It is located about halfway between the 6th floor museum and the Perot nature and science museum. this worked for us since we had bought CityPasses.

Avoid!

By Cyndi H |

You know you are not in for a pleasant dining experience when the table is so dirty that your arms stick to the surface. This place, recommended as good barbecue, is NOT what I have come to expect from Texas barbecue. The service was dreadfully slow and mediocre. Our drinks were delivered on a giant tray and we had to taste test each to see whose was whose. Really? And the barbecue was "meh" - no sauce for the brisket? I nearly broke a tooth on the jalepeno sausage (a big chunk of bone made me leary of eating more). The sides were okay at best. One of the diners with me ordered a salad which looked like someone opened a 99 cent bag and just dumped it on a plate. We didn't expect anything fancy, but this place was a total disappointment. I hope that they were just having an off night, but I have a suspicion that's not the case. No wonder our tour guide had said the previous day to avoid the touristy and lousy West End restaurants.

Pretty run of the mill BBQ

By radbrad73 |

I go when I don't have time to get bbq anywhere else. It's not great, not bad. Square in the middle as far as BBQ goes.

I expected more of the brisket

By Paul D |

and the famous onion rings. I had been in New Hampshire the previous day and had had better brisket. They are not holding up the high standard of Texas. The ribs were good though, but the mac and cheese was barely a step above Kraft.

Good BBQ, great prices

By jslade36 |

I was recommended to this place by a Lyft driver, and I went there for lunch. There was a special for 2-3 choices of meat, with 2 sides, and it was a great deal for the price. I had the pulled chicken and pulled pork, along with mashed potato and mac n' cheese. All of it was very tasty, and I enjoyed the house bbq sauce. The fountain drink was nice and large too, greatly appreciated on a hot Texas day, and there were free refills so I grabbed one for the road. Staff was very friendly and chatty, and checked in on how I was doing as well. Great atmosphere, and a good location for anyone sightseeing in the area - specifically, I had just visited the 6th floor museum, and it was in perfect walking distance from there.

Solid BBQ

By DrH23 |

This was a solid BBQ place in the heart of downtown Dallas. Walking distance to hotels and Dealey Plaza. Ribs and brisket were excellent.

Very good lunch spot

By Danny O |

While recently in Dallas for business we were looking for a place for lunch and came across Sonny Bryan's. We got in a little before the lunch rush and ordered the lunch special that day which was a brisket sandwich and we both ordered a half order of their onion rings. The sandwhich itself was excellent and a good value. While I liked the onion rings, I didn't think they were awesome. You could tell they were made from scratch and they looked good, I just found them kind of bland. They also passed out dinner rolls which I normally wouldn't eat with a sandwhich, but thought I would give one a try, it was excellent. Overall a great place for lunch!

A nice bbq spot.

By skyhook41 |

I got a large platter to try more items. The food was good as well as the service. I have had better bbq

Borderline inedible food, poor service

By chgotrvlr71 |

While on a business trip in Dallas, a friend and I decided to grab a bite at this BBQ place since it was close to the hotel. Despite arriving at 7:30 and the restaurant website saying they were open until 9pm. The restaurant had chairs on tables and was darkened. Had we not seen someone come out we would have assumed it was closed. We peaked in and was told they were indeed open but they start to close up early because they had no customers! I wonder how many others assumed the darkened restaurant with chairs on tables was closed? No wonder they had no customers! Then again, maybe it was the food...we were told Mac and cheese was not available and one other item my guest tried to order but didn’t hear what it was. When the food did come, my brisket was cold — not room temp — cold and my sausage was warm to the touch but cold inside. Neither of us finished our food and simply left.

Good BBQ food

By Portland1 |

We visited this smokehouse after doing the book depository museum, which is about five minutes walk away. We ordered a combo meal with 3 different meats, beans, mashed potato and biscuit. The price was not too bad for a touristy area and the quality was very good. Would recommend

Nothing Like Memphis or Dallas Airport

By Gibber1968 |

It was only 12 dollars and I guess I received what I paid for.....an average meals with basic taste. Ribs were oK but had better ribs at the Dallas airport. Service was OK but nothing special and not close to Texas hospitality

Best bbq

By Kma M |

This is one of my favorite bbq places. Well done. Have the best bbq sauce anywhere. Been around for ever.

Awful

By MZTETE |

Hubby and I on vacation wanted good ribs something Texas suppose to specialize in. We ask around and they suggested Off the Bone and Sonny Bryan's. Off the Bone closed for renovation so we came to Sonny Bryans. Its a obsticle to go to the restroom then we should have take a clue resturant empty. Menu was limited not a big selection, and the sides were suppose to be from scratch...not. Ribs a bit tough and fatty, no sauce had to ask. Best thing was the bread....very disappointing looking for good Ribs especially from Texas. DON'T GO SAVE YOUR MONEY!

Skip it

By Cindy P |

Another disappointment. The onion rings were awful, the BBQ boring, at least the apple cobbler was good.

A name brand icon for BBQ worlds.

By A C |

BBQ in Texas yes, had to try it tonight and Sonny Bryan's place in the west solved my location. To say yes to the BBQ pork ribs. Tender with a good amount of B Bryan's sauce. The coleslaw was good but was a little disappointed with the Mac N Cheese. Kinda bland. Overall very good work on the Mac N Cheese.

Worst bbq I ever had

By Carl T |

When I saw only three guests in the restaurant I should have known. During my week long vacation, I was fortunate enough to try bbq from Smittys, Black's and the Salt Lick near Austin. I remember eating at Sonny Bryan's years ago and it was delicious. My meal today should not even be considered bbq. No smoke ring or char on brisket. Turkey was painfully dry. Mac and cheese not edible. Go ANYWHERE else for lunch when near Dealey Plaza.

Fast Filling Smoked Meals.

By travlndon |

We ordered 2 platters and a Frito pie. Orders were taken ast the cash register and the cashier even pointed out when one matched the daily special which included the drink, rather than up charging. The order was prepared rapidly and we carried then to our table from the kitchen counter. The table bus man stopped by several times to remove empty plates. The restaurant was about 1/3 full after the Veteran's Day parade. We have now recommended this to others who work downtown.

Not worth the stop.

By GreginRenton |

Just finished eating here. Best thing was the sweet tea. Ribs were just ok. Jalapeño Sausage was not spicy. Sliced brisket was dry without sauce. Onion rings were terrible and cole slaw was average. Cafeteria quality overall. How does this place stay open in Dallas? I had better food at a gas station yesterday.

Wasn't anything special

By Azbkpkr |

We had lunch at Sonny's and while the atmosphere in the old building is pretty cool, the bbq isn't really anything special

A lot of food for the money

By jinxkmdh |

Just stumbled upon this place while walking around the west end area. Quickly seated and service was pleasant. Price was a bit higher than I would expect for this type of food but there was more food that I could eat on my plate. Would recommend for food and service, decor and seating are what you would expect for this type of place and not very comfortable.

BBQ at its best

By James H |

We ate here on a recommendation from a retired cop in Dallas. As soon as you walk in you get a feel that it will be good and that it was. The pulled pork, chicken and ribs went in seconds. The BBQ sauce is served in emptied beer bottles which is a nice touch. Get a side of onion rings too. 👍

Good little BBQ place

By johnnyranger |

Stopped in for dinner because a nearby restaurant had too long if a wait. I was impressed with the food, but even more impressed with the friendly service.

Beware if you have Food Allergies

By royalpiper |

Stopped in on Friday evening Nov. 18th...ordered the 8 rib dinner...unfortunately they added their house sauce on them and shortly afterwards I experienced an allergic reaction which nearly sent me to the hospital...luckily I carry liquid Benadryl with me and the reaction subsided enough for me to ride it out in my hotel room...but I was on the verge of calling 911.. I have a seafood allergy...they must be putting something in the house bbq sauce that I reacted to...I post this review not to be hyper critical of the restaurant, but to warn others who have similar allergies. The sauce bottles do not have an ingredients label on them so you don't what's in it...these days, restaurants need to be aware and concerned for patrons who may have allergies..and they need to be forthcoming in what they use in their sauces so patrons can make informed decisions and not risk being hospitalized or worse..

Tasty BBQ

By Robert S |

It was 103 degrees outside so it was a good day to be inside having BBQ and cold drinks. The BBQ was very tasty although it could have been hotter. It was luke warm at best. I had the rib dinner, mashed potatoes and beans. Everything was luke warm. The service was acceptable. There were a number of tables that needed to be cleaned and people waiting to get a seat.

Disappointed

By indrablanco |

The sign on the outside wall indicates they've been around a long time, so my husband said, "it's got to be good". His trio of meats was ok; I tasted the sausage, and I liked it. For me, bbq is all about the brisket, and through the years, I've had some great Texas brisket in other locations. My plate was heaped with thinly sliced brisket so dry I went through two bottles of sauce. Coming from the northwest, it sure is hard to find a porter or stout so I had to settle for something else. Our waitress was friendly, and service was good.

Great

By BBlkburn |

The bartender was great. The food was excellent. Ate at an off time, so no wait. Alot of creeps loitering in the area, beware. Not cheap, but worth it.

Below Average Barbecue, Terrible Service

By Steve D |

This was my first and last visit to Sonny's. I ordered the Combo Plate with Turkey & Sliced Brisket, Fried Okra, Mac & Cheese, and sweet tea. We were seated upon entering the restaurant, but had to wait 10 minutes before anyone came to our table to take orders. I ordered the sweet tea but was brought unsweet tea. The turkey was as dry as sawdust so I had to put barbecue sauce on it to be able to eat it. The brisket was fairly moist but not very tasty. The mac & cheese was not very good. The okra was some of the worst I've ever had. The sweet tea was pretty good. The service was terrible as the waiter never brought the rolls he said he would, never offered drink refills, and it took quite some time to get our food even though it wasn't very busy. I wouldn't eat here again if you paid me.

Great authentic BBQ since 1910

By Claire B |

Choose 3 meats and 2 sides and get ready to have some very authentic BBQ. The rolls!!! So soft!! Be SURE to order brisket. It is the BEST. The other meats are good but brisket is the BEST!! The BBQ sauce comes warm ready to pour over the meat! They are very friendly and courteous. I really liked it.

Great barbeque

By Tim D |

Always stop at Sonny's when I'm in Dallas. Great BBQ at a great price with all the fixin's and a friendly staff.

Met up with friends

By pat-artesia |

We walked over there in the heat so by then as much as I would have liked to eat BBQ I wasn't hungry. Our friends did and liked it but I was there to get some relief from the heat and have some sweet tea. The bathrooms are only accessible by going outside into the hall and down the elevator and down another hall. But it is an old building so not much to change about that. They do have one of those crazy soda machines that you press tons of buttons and can get any kind of soda you want. The bar was not open to just order a beer they wanted you to stand in the long food line, not good for business people.

Tourist bbq

By theebdk |

Have eaten bbq in Texas a number of times at different places. This location gives off the vibe of tourist. Probably because it is in a tourist area. Anyway, about the food. I got a two meat plate with sausage and Turkey. The sausage was good but the Turkey was very dry. Will not return again. Oh and the bathrooms are very dingy.

Not impressed

By Maureen1771 |

Sorry, but I have had waaaay better BBQ. The server brought the food and then went back for the silverware, should have been the other way around. The macaroni and cheese was mushy, not sure it is actually 'homemade', no thanks. The fried okra was not hot, not very crunchy as I would have expected for a fried food. The meat was just ok, nothing special. The bathroom is upstairs, you need a code to get in and was gross. Service was ok, not great, not bad.

Should have known better...

By JEFFYG10 |

We went on a Thursday night and the place was empty (only 2 tables filled). It was within walking distance to the Hyatt and I LOVE BBQ. Nothing special here. Had the 3/4 combo plate. It was bland. Thank goodness they had a bottle of BBQ sauce on the table. "World Famous" Onion Rings; a disappointment. Will never return.

Ribs are Good

By Tom H |

I tried the combo plate. The coleslaw, fried okra and ribs were pretty good. The brisket was disappointingly dry and tough. I’d try it again around lunch when they are busier. There were only about 8 people in there at about 6:30pm.

Great sides

By Yankeehoya |

The ribs were quite good. Without the sauce, the brisket was nothing special. The six people I my party were split on the sausage, half loved them but the other half, including me, thought they tasted odd. Everyone loved the side dishes. I had cold slaw and potato salad which were both excellent. The rolls were both fresh and tasty.

It Was Just OK!

By GinBlox |

I've gotta say, we weren't blown away by Sonny Bryan's. Our service was great & we didn't have to wait for a table. But, my friend and I weren't as pleased with the BBQ or sides. My friend ordered the ribs & pulled pork along with the potato salad & fries. And I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with sides of potato salad & beans. Everything seemed bland & underwhelming. The restaurant has a fun & inviting atmosphere accompanied by fun music. They should just spend a little more time on the food production.

good food and fair price

By BuenoOrNot |

love this area, warehouse area. food was good and fair price, i went twice and great desert. service was ok, girl was great, guy was ok. I liked the 1/2 pound plate, 3 meats and 2 sides.

A Definite Stop on anyone's Tour of the BEST BBQ Dallas has to Offer!

By B2178QOrobertm |

If you love BBQ...if you like to compare BBQ's from around the country...Sonny Bryan's is a must stop on your tour! The combo plates and sandwiches are tasty, brought to life with their unique sauce!

Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, food OK overall....RIBS WERE GREAT!

By NKY_10 |

Willing to give them the benefit of the doubt since we visited late on a Sunday night, but experience was just OK. Ordered the 3/4lb combo platter, but they were out of pulled pork. Seemed strange for a BBQ restaurant to be out of pulled pork with 3 hours to go before closing time. Not very crowded, but again it was a Sunday evening. Staff was friendly and helpful. Only one sauce option, house blend. Not bad. Brisket was ok but lacked some flavor. Chicken was same. Rib were VERY good. Highly recommend them. Atmosphere was nice and it is in a neat little area of downtown.

great authentic BBQ

By Raymond I |

great authentic BBQ in the historic West End. Great service and fun atmosphere. Try the brisket and the potato salad.

Awesome BBQ Food

By Sam C |

Saw this place on Man V Food so made our way over for dinner. We got there late on Memorial Day, about half hour before it closed so it was quiet. The server was a little bemused that we were arriving as they were looking to close but I didn't even care because the food was goddamn delicious. Insane barbecue food and from the smoked sausage to the still warm from the pot bottle of bbq sauce we were given, it was all perfect. Word of warning, don't go in hungry and over order because you will be really upset you didn't finish every last crumb.

OK BBQ

By Pattyms |

Good location in the West End, close to attractions. Smoked meat was tasty but sides were not, fries were cold and cole slaw tasted pre made. May be a little partial because I'm surrounded by excellent BBQ at home.

Delicious pork ribs falling off of the bone and Potato Salad and Rolls!!!

By CONearNative1 |

This is not a fancy place and don't wear white pants.... some of the table and chairs could use a good scrub down, but the brisket and the pork ribs are SO DELICIOUS!!!!!! They use a Texas style sauce that is a bit more mustard/vinegar in flavor than thick and sweet but it was so good! They also have perfectly made Sweet Tea, and homemade white dinner rolls that are so soft, and the BEST Potato Salad (lots of mustard and dill flavors)!!!! I am glad I was able to eat here on my last visit to Dallas.

I walked in. I waddled out. Life was good.

By dutemplar |

I stopped here for dinner. I walked in. After the all you can eat, I waddled out. Life was good, and I was happy. Decently comfortable, server was easily available. Prices weren't bad.

Stumbled upon this by accident

By hobbsnm |

I was originally going to Dante’s Pizza across the street but they have moved and an Asian restaurant has occupied its space so I decided to give Sonny’s a try. I realize everyone’s taste for BBQ is different but I really enjoyed the lunch with 3 types of meat and 2 sides. I like their BBQ sauce as they keep it on a warming plate in bottles. I enjoyed their pork ribs and sausage. Because I have ADHD, I enjoyed that they only have a couple selections. I hate making decisions from a 20 page menu. I would highly recommend trying this restaurant while your downtown visiting the museums or the JFK Memorial.

Amazing ribs

We were recommended here by our Uber driver and it did not disappoint. The rolls they serve before supper are delicious! I had the 1/2 pound with ribs and chopped brisket. Both were outstanding but I'd go back just for the ribs. Very good! I also had the green bean casserole and it was awesome. Wish we would have ordered onion rings! They looked great. Highly recommend and would absolutely go back.

Terrible all around

By Tommy M |

Stood at hostess stand as staff continued to chit chat for several minute about 100' away. Then after being seated it was 5 minutes before someone came to our table, again as they all chatted behind us. The place was dirty and the food was not so good. Dry tasteless brisket. Ribs and sausage we're good but okra and green bean casserole was cold. Turkey and pulled pork were also bland. $7 for a 16 oz draft

Hugely satisfying in an old-time no-frills environment

By rendrich |

While waiting for the JFK museum, we walked two blocks and found this gem on TA. Others had a higher rating, but the pricing was within our budget. We are glad we found it. Between my wife and I, we had brisket, jalapeño sausage, pulled chicken, ribs and sides of BBQ beans (a little bland for our tastes), mashed potatoes and Mac n cheese. The sides (minus the beans) were great, but the meats were all scrumptious! The ribs fell off the bone. The brisket was tender it fell apart. No knife required except to butter the complimentary rolls. Two people could share the 3/4 plate for $16.99 and be happy. Excellent value, excellent tastes! The building is kind of run-down looking in that the tables are rough, the Devore is older and the floors older and a bit scratched. This is all by design as it gives off an old saloon vibe rather than a theme restaurant. Thoroughly enjoyable experience and our server, Jon, provided great Texas hospitality.

Just and average smokehouse

By Laurie K |

Sunday night and sometables hadn't been cleared and wiped. Staff attitude was poor. Around 8.10pm some people came in and before anything else a staff member yelled at them that they were closed and there was no meat left. Food was average and there wasn't a drink menu. Wouldn't recommend this establishment or the West End area overall.

Overall pretty good, friendly staff

By Chris H |

Was in town for a conference and looking for a BBQ fix. This resturant was an easy walk from the hotel. Menu is a typical pick my protein and sides BBQ place. Staff was friendly and helpful. Overall average BBQ. The sliced brisket was pretty dry and the Mac n Cheese was tasty. This is a good lunch spot.

A very good Dallas bbq spot

By Cathrine S |

This is a very good, local bbq spot. In the realm of Texas bbq, it's not as good as will get in Lockhart, TX, but It's much better than you'll find in most of the rest of the country.

Would NOT recommend this place!

By John K |

We LOVE good BBQ but this certainly isn't the place for it....even though it came highly recommended. To start with, the Brisket was smoked using Hickory....and you NEVER use Hickory for brisket. Second, you know the smell you get when you follow a truck in the mountains on a downgrade and you smell the brake pads burning? THAT'S what the brisket smelled like! Wish we would have gone to Pecan Lodge instead.

Smoke anyone

What a nice place to eat at the West End. Great menu options and plate sizes. Had the Jalapeno sausage, ribs and brisket. Great fresh rolls with butter. Friendly staff. Sit by the windows to people watch

Real Authentic Smokey Cookhouse!

By Steve Y |

Ate here back in 2010 and man the food was real good. The folks serving were friendly and also were able to answer every question I had about the dishes. I had the large combo plate with regular sausage, pulled pork and chicken. The meats were all moist, tender and perfectly cooked and smoked - "a melt in your mouth experience"! Their bbq sauces and condiments were top of the line! Portion sizes were also really good for the price! Something that you shouldn't take lightly are their rolls. These are darn good! You could end up eating a dozen real easy! I promise that I will definitely return to dine here, in the best smokehouse in Texas, the next time I'm in town.

FOUR WORDS Tuesday Baked Potato Special

By Melinda A |

On average, I eat here 3-4 times per month. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the service, the food, the Arnold Palmer drink I am able to make for myself! Cindy and Angelica ALWAYS take EXCELLENT care of me!

Jalapeno Sausage!

By Aaron E |

Went in on Friday night. Not very busy so we were a bit concerned. The service was prompt and the waitress was very friendly and attentive. The jalapeno sausage had good flavor. The mac and cheese was great. My wife had the chicken and said it was nicely flavored. My daughter had Frito pie and raved about it. Overall, thumbs up!

Great place. Great food!

By BigEddie46571 |

Very casual atmosphere with great food. Service was great. Beef brisket was good - slightly dry - I would give it a rating of 90 out of 100. Some other places had better brisket, but were far more pricey. We really liked the ribs and sausage. By far better that other barbecue places. Prices were more reasonable than some other outstanding barbecue places, We will return to Sonny's next time we are in Dallas.

Good food ... not-so-good atmosphere

By Marco |

For a restaurant in the West End of Dallas, frequented by tourists, this place has a lot of character derived from dinginess, poor maintenance, and bad upkeep. The bus staff is not fast nor thorough and the tables look badly cleaned and sticky. This place's best days are behind. Before you roll your eyes, please understand that this is not my first visit to a Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse. I have been to the one in University Park, and that one is always spotless and clean. Having said that, the food was definitely up to Sonny Bryan standards. It was filling, deliciously cooked, and tasty.

Great Lunch

By CleveKen |

We stopped in before our tour of the JFK museum. Everyone was very friendly and quickly walked us through the menu options from the boar (you order, pay and then sit). Lots to choose from. We didn't try all the meats, but the brisket, sausage and ribs were all good, but the pulled pork was our favorite. All the sides we tried were awesome.

OK for lunch but nothing special

By fcfrag |

Not a bad lunch place but I would not consider it for dinner. At lunch you order at the register and it's ready within minutes - service (reportedly bad) not required! It's Texas - so you eat brisket. I found the quality of the meat to be quite good, and the lunch special portion was fairly generous. But I don't think they seasoned it at all. And the sauce? The sauce was really bland - quite a disappointment. Sorry but there's got to be better BBQ somewhere downtown.

There are so many better BBQ options in Dallas

By darrels523 |

Went here for lunch at 11:30 AM on a weekday. Several bad signs upfront: - When you smell no smoke in a BBQ. - It's a little troubling when the bathroom is located on a different floor and outside the restaurant, accessible via a less-than-trustworthy elevator (the bathroom itself is not very clean). - Despite being in West End on a business day, it was relatively empty. The meat was mediocre. The brisket had no smoke ring, it was quite dry, and relatively flavorless. Brisket is the benchmark for a BBQ establishment. You can screw up most things, but if you do brisket right most of them can be forgiven. Didn't happen. The pulled chicken comparatively was better, but both meats distinctly felt that they had been pulled from a warming rack that they had been on for a while. The sauce was quite nice though. The mashed potatoes were the highlight - just the right amount of salty and toothsome, but like the meats just a shade under being warm enough to be served. The cole slaw was bad. The cabbage was lifeless and thin like it had been in the fridge for a week, and I suspect even if it had been fresh it wouldn't be worth eating. At the price, this place is not worth going to given the glut of other options in the area.

DELICIOUS FOOD

By travilgurl |

WOW!! This is the best bbq we have ever had! The service was fast, friendly and everything was amazing, even the sides! It was as if you were in someones home eating food from scratch! The beer was ice cold, the rolls were fluffy, hot and amazing! We would've went back for a second meal if we were staying longer!

Good barbque and cold drinks on a hot day!

By tlandry71 |

Food was good, service was great! Drinks were good and cold on a hot summer Dallas day! Loved the atmosphere and friendly service!

Best BBQ in Texas

By lynneK2340DW |

Food was excellent although the place is a bit of a dive, sticky tables cloths and very basic cheap furniture. Bathrooms were hard to get to and pretty disgusting.

Great location, good food

By GranburyDad_12 |

Located off the rail in West End, it is in a great location to visit. The food is good, not the best Texas BBQ, but good enough. A trip to the bathroom in the basement is an adventure.

Good, not great

By Hiram N |

I was in town for a couple of days and wanted to try out some good Texan BBQ. It was good, not excellent. The meats (I tried the ribs and brisket) were a bit on the dry side. Mashed potatoes were lacking some flavor. Not a bad meal for sure but probably would check out some other joint if I ever go to Texas again. Staff was super friendly and attentive.

Mediocre

By Jarle1989 |

Went Saturday for late lunch. Not busy at all. Service was average. Food was average. Surroundings average. To get to the restrooms you have to take an elevator to the basement which felt really unsafe. With all the restaurant variety in West End, I suggest going elsewhere.

Very good

By Et244 |

First bbq in Texas and wasn’t disappointed..the homemade rolls are to die for. Get the 3 meat dish and pay the extra buck to get ribs..

Good Texas Bbq

By Patrick C |

Tried the ribs, pulled pork, and sliced beef, all were above average. The homemade mac and green beans were really good. The atmosphere is nice for being in the heart of the city. Server was very helpful and knowledgeable! Lastly, the fresh rolls are amazing!

Good BBQ

By Brian M |

The BBQ had good flavor. Casual dining experience while visiting Dallas. There were several meal options with prices under $20, and the portions were good. Decent beer selection to enjoy with the BBQ. I would eat there again.

Authentic Texas fare

By hmgoertz |

Great server, good food, casual dining - helped these travellers from Canada make good food and beverage choices.

Go Someplace else

By 2chinzblitz |

The first thing you will notice if you enter is the lack of the BBQ smell. Any decent place entices you with the fragrance from the smokers. There was no wonderful BBQ smell at this place. The food was amazingly average but knowing how good Texas BBQ can be (Pecan Lodge) this was a true disappointment. Spend the $6 Uber ride and go to Deep Ellum to indulge at the Pecan Lodge.

We enjoyed it so far

By Marion S |

When you're in Texas you want something authentic. It's the right place. The servers are very nice. The food is delicious. It's not some something gastronomic but it's very gooooood! By the way the bread is the best I never taste in Usa, French words! I recommande it!

Bar-B-Que!

By Daryl L |

The food was simple barbeque, but what else do you really need? Great location in Dallas, walking distance from most places.

Good food attentive service

By James A |

Food was good and the service was attentive. Chairs were uncomfortable and tables are not balanced. I would go back.

Pretty disappointed..

By Dawn O |

This place doesn't seem to get brilliant reviews like the other locations but we thought we'd try it anyway - it was our last night in Dallas and it's hard to find a BBQ that's open late. I had 1/2 pound plate with Beef Brisket, Turkey and Pulled Chicken. The veggies were Fries and Mash. Beef Brisket - tasted really good but was warm. Turkey - this also tasted good but was cold. Pulled Chicken - this also tasted good but was cold. Fries - they were really good and nice and hot. Mash - this was lumpy and slightly warm. It didn't taste bad but it wasn't amazing. I've only just remembered (after seeing pictures on here and checking the menu) that there might have been a roll with it too - if that was meant to come it didn't. As I'm not from Texas - I'm not sure if the warm/cold thing on the same plate is a thing - apologies if it is! The tables were a bit sticky and I'm sure there was meat on the table from the previous customers. The server was great though - really polite, friendly and attentive.

Finger lickin!

By Ben H |

This place is tasty! All food tasted is recommended. Pulled pork Brisket Ribs Enjoy yourself! Bathroom was closed, so wash up before you go.

Genuienly sweet people

By Sonny_circumvehor |

Waited over an hour for my food... very tasty, sauce was thin but tasted great.. the were kind enough to comp my meal.. in my case my company was paying anyways so it wasn't a bonus... in the end the food was above average in a wonderfully decored building..

Excellent Food

By James B |

Food was delicious, and reasonably priced. Excellent BBQ. Service was also very good. I was sorry we only got to eat here once

Deliciousness!!!

By Adrian V |

I was going around the tourist sites on historic downtown, and looking for a place to grab lunch. I looked all around the area, and finally going into Sonny's was the best decision I could've made that day. Everything was just delicious! The ribs' meat fell off the bone like warm butter, the sliced brisket and pulled pork were so well prepared and tasty, specially with the limitless bbq sauce available for everyone on the beer bottles. Onion rings were also delicious, and they have enough options of local beers that go so well with a plate full of BBQ stuff. I had the 3/4 pounds plate and was really satisfied. If you are around and are looking for a delicious, quick and unpretentious lunch, go inside Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse. walking distance from Dealey Plaza and the Sixth floor museum.

Still The Best Smokehouse In Dallas

By Steve Y |

Last time I came here to eat was 5 years ago, and had a real good & hearty meal! The food quality and deliciousness still remains the same. Got to love them hot fresh dinner bread rolls as well! They just melt in your mouth! I would highly recommend the combos! Their brisket and ribs are to die for! However something that I found equally tasty were the sausages - both the regular smoked ones as well as the jalapeno ones! They make their own sauce which is awesome. I also loved their potato salad, mac and cheese, and not forgetting the coleslaw! Will definitely return here again the next time I'm in Big D!

Lunch stop

By Jayme B |

The meat was very tender with good flavor. BBQ sauce was served warm, nice touch. Friendly staff. A few local beers on tap.

Good casual bbq

By DawnEdgell |

Stumbled on this looking for somewhere casual for dinner. Good value for good food. Brisket was okay, ribs were good, but the jalapeno sausage was great! Went back a 2nd night with colleagues who enjoyed it too. Limited beer choices, but all local and what they had was good.

Great BBQ

By STANsTrips |

Not fancy but tasting the bar-b-que is worth the visit. Convenient. Stopped in for lunch and wish we could go back over and over again.

Lunch Stop

By PHLee7ca |

We stopped in for lunch and walked out stuffed! I had the Finger Lickin' Platter consisting of BBQ Ribs and Wings ($12)...but they ran out of wings and allowed me to choose any other meat...I chose the Brisket. The ribs were delicious as was the brisket. My wife enjoyed her Smoke Ham Sandwich Platter (she chose potato salad and Mac 'n Cheese). The homemade sweet buns were fantastic! Good and friendly service. A very good place for a casual meal in the West End.

Great food and great service

By Jamie G |

The brisket and sausage were lovely and the service was fantastic. I would definitely recommend this place for an easy lunch.

Quick, delicious

By Chris C |

I was walking by at lunchtime and between the time of me walking in and eating I was out in 20-25 minutes. The brisket sandwich was delicious and was filling for a good value.

Enjoyable

By eastbos |

Shared the 1/2 lb combo for lunch since we knew we would be eating something later in the day. Had the chopped brisket, pork ribs and jalapeño sausage for our 3 meats and mac and cheese and BBQ beans for the sides. Should have had one each, it was that good! The sauce made the tender brisket even better and the ribs were nice and smoky. The sausage had just the right amount of spice and heat. Add a few real good Deep Ellum IPA's and it was a very good lunch.

The very best rolls

By 66Laurie |

We went to Sonny Bryan's for the BBQ and was recommended by locals. I had the brisket and pulled pork which was very tasty. Before the meals arrived, we were served a basket of very warm rolls where the butter just melted on it. These rolls were sooooo delicious!

Disappointed

By Jacob Zuma |

After trying some other smokehouses in the Dallas area, I tried this one. I am not from the USA and I like going to a smokehouse when in Dallas to sample some proper Texas BBQ. Although the food was okay without being spectacular, Sonny Bryan’s is let down by its pricing, which seems high for the what you get. Sorry, but I will be going elsewhere next time

Don't waste your money

By sergiogomes |

Since 1910??? I can't imagine how, since the meet is dry and not well prepared. It requires also cleaning and organization.

Nice Food

By RobW |

Nice food, but a little dry. as per other TA comments, the service is very slow. don't expect anything quick. overall not a bad eat and not too pricey.

Great BBQ in Friendly Downtown Dalls

By harry1012015 |

While visiting the JFK assassination sites in Dallas, my friends and I stumbled onto this corner BBQ restaurant. This local chain has been around for a while, and there are a number of them in the Dallas area. This one was tops! The sides were great, especially the green bean casserole and potato salad. We got pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches. They were tasty and large. Beer is available. You give your order, then pick it up hen it's ready. Staff was very friendly. Something odd: Restroom is in the basement, and you have to take the elevator to access it. Oh, well! I'd definitely return here in the future.

OK BBQ

By Dedgehog |

The place was almost empty when we had lunch here around 2:00. There was no table service. We ordered at the counter and then the food was delivered to the table - I got the smaller BBQ plate with brisket and pulled pork while my wife had a pulled chicken sandwich. The food was OK.

Exploring Dallas

By Sandy W |

Had lunch while waiting for the train. The music was piped in but good. The wait staff was very helpful and cheerful. The service was quick and the food was delicious. We had ribs, smoked brisket, and pulled chicken. The were all very well prepared. Me favorite was the brisket.

Good Local Bar-B-Q in downtown Dallas

By Mike S |

The indoor restaurants help the setting to show this is a historic business. You order when you walk in the door and they have the menu posted above the register. I order the large combo plate which includes three types of meat. I really like brisket, so I had two briskets and jalapeno sausage with Slaw and fries. They have a condiment bar and bar-b-q sauce on a heater. The brisket was so tender that I had trouble picking it up with a fork, it was moist, and it had a great taste. I was happy that I chose two orders. The sausage had a great taste and was spicy. The slaw was mayonnaise-based which I liked. The french fries were cold, but I was too full to eat them anyway. The drink offering was Coke and teas.

Tourist restaurant - tourist food

By Jerry_Case |

Stopped here for lunch one day during my visit to Dallas, and wound up here for dinner the same day for a large business dinner. The food is good, but just good. The brisket is tasty, the sausages were nondescript, and the pork was good. The potato salad was also good. The bar is also good, but so much was out of stock! Worth a stop if you're hungry.

Darn decent barbecue!

By George N |

We had some really good brisket and ribs. The service was a little slow, but we did come in close to close. They didn't have but one kind of barbeque sauce.

Limited menu, ran out of most items, didn't actually eat

By Lovetotravel2001b |

We stumbled upon this place on a Saturday night. My daughter saw mozzarella sticks on the menu and was thrilled. The hostess was pleasant and we were led downstairs to a table. I put my hand on the table and the table proceeded to almost topple over. We were led to a different table. The waiter was prompt and took drink orders at which time I asked to order the mozzarella sticks. He informed us that they ran out of mozzarella sticks and were also out of wings. We asked for a minute and he went for drinks. Upon returning with the drinks, we had a few questions and were further informed that they were out of the baked potatoes (which a an independent menu item) and out of steaks. Really? This is Texas - out of steak?! Those four items make up a good portion of the menu. Safe to say, we didn't actually eat there. We promptly got up and left. Worst food management I have ever experienced and we travel often. Will not try the next time we are in town.

Delicious Texas BBQ

By Janet D |

We ventured into Dallas on a recent layover at DFW. Our goal was to get some authentic Texan BBQ. Sonny Bryan's delivered. I had the pulled chicken salad which was delicious. My husband and son had the rib meal which they thoroughly enjoyed. Old Texas atmosphere as well which we appreciated.

Good location

By yoaro |

Went to Dealey Plaza and wanted BBQ. Smoke house was an easy one block walk. We had the beef brisket, sausage and chicken with fries. Chickens and brisket was good, sausage not great. Didn't like the BBQ sauce or fries. House margarita on the rocks was good, lots of lime. We ate outside on patio, fun to watch trams and people. Wait staff was friendly but weren't very on top of things. Had to hunt down waitress for bill.

Some great Texas BBQ

By SpursAsh |

Visited Sonny Bryans while in the area for Wrestlemania. Went in and loved the selection of meats and sides they had on offer. I went with the 3/4 pound choice of 3 meats and 2 sides. I chose ribs, pulled pork and brisket. I have to say the brisket was my favourite so soft and juicy. The ribs and pulled pork were both amazing too and had an authentic BBQ flavour. Highly recommend a stop at Sonny Bryans if you are in the area.

Run. Away.

By Doug B |

Beyond bad - hard to decide what was worse: Cold food, the beer taps breaking, and bathrooms that made a truck stop look pristine by comparison. I question whether or not Texas has a Health Department. If so, it's time for a drop in.

Good Que

By Scott M |

Wanted some bbq during my stay here in Dallas. Came across this place while out sightseeing and decided to give it a test drive. Had the 3/4# plate with brisket, chicken, mac n cheese, and bbq beans. My only criticism of the food was that I had requested white meat chicken and was given dark (still good) and the beans weren't great. Otherwise it was overall very good. Washed it down with sweet tea that was extremely refreshing on this hot day and better than you remember your grandma ever making. Icing on the cake was my very cheerful and friendly waitress. I'd definitely recommend this place for you bbq fans out there.

Pretty good BBQ.

By jessica B |

Stopped in for lunch, had the daily special of a very large baked potato tipped with chopped beef. It was very good and had a lot more flavor than I anticipated. Counter service and the staff was very freindly. Was it the best BBQ I ever had, no but pretty good especially for the low price.

Yummy

By Top Traveller 1000 |

The bbq was great! The condiment section was a bit questionable. Casual atmosphere. Scary restroom in the basement.

Tasty meats in the West End

By Mikeyveck |

Not the best smokehouse in Dallas but good and convenient if you are downtown. This is a great place to stop, relax and refuel with a hearty lunch if you are exploring the sites downtown.

Amazing BBQ

By Jonathan C |

My visit to Sonny Bryan's was very pleasant. Food was great specially the brisket and service was really good. Prices I thought were ok also. If you're a fan of light beers try the Dallas Blondie! My only negative experience was the cleanliness of the bathrooms.

Solid lunch deal

By davo1142 |

Came in on a Monday to get out of the rain. Solid lunch deal that included bbq sandwich of your choice and side. I got the sliced brisket and it was moist and delicious. Mac and cheese was tasty and the side of onion rings were delicious. Onion rings were the best part of the meal and the sweet tea was great.

Good BBQ

By Sara S |

Went for lunch with friends and it was really good! The sauce was so good and liked that I could add pickles and onions to my sandwich with extra sauce. The fried okra was so good and went well with my pulled pork sandwich. Would definitely go back for a meal.

Best ribs, brisket, and jalapeño sausage found in one place!

By BeachDad23 |

I went with a group of 7, and everyone got the platter. The ribs were juicy and easily pulled from the bone. Sliced brisket, which can be somewhat dry due to its low fat content, was moist and melted in the mouth. The jalapeño sausage, which can often be greasy and overly mild, was hearty and carried a comfortable heat. Service overall was good at some times and poor at others, which is what lost Sonny's it's fifth star. When in downtown Dallas with some friends, stop in and gorge yourselves on this phenomenal haven of Texas barbecue!

High Hopes Dashed

By RVIDI |

I have been enjoying Texas BBQ while I have been down here for work. I have tried many different establishments. I was looking forward to trying Sonny Bryan's while in Dallas. I was let down. I ordered the combo platter. It came with brisket, ribs and pulled pork. For sides, I ordered the baked beans and potato salad. The brisket and pulled pork were dry. The ribs were really good. Wish I had ordered a whole slab of them. I expect a lot from baked beans from a BBQ joint. There was nothing special about them. They seemed to come straight out of a can. The potato salad was pretty good. I've had better but I certainly have had worse. Prices are fairly reasonable. My combo platter was under $15. Pretty decent portions. The people were all really nice and helpful. The decor was fun and the music playing reminded me of a Kansas City blues club. I have had a lot of really, really good BBQ down here in Texas. Maybe I am becoming a bit of a snob but Sonny Bryan's just did not stand up with the best.

Local BBQ

By fourbyh2os |

Excited to try this place I took an Uber right over upon arriving in Dallas. The service was prompt and friendly. The food was average - meat was good and sides were average. I was excited to try the slaw but they were out. Just okay overall.

Yummy Barbecue!

By Doug M |

Great old west flavor in the decor of the building. Wonderful food and my waitress Kelly was one of the best servers I've ever had. She was perfectly attentive and made great suggestions and was very friendly but not overly friendly which I really am impressed by.

A small taste of Texas

By aligdrummer |

Great option for a big Texan meal in the middle of downtown Dallas. Good food, good atmosphere and value for money. If you're not from Dallas and staying in the area then this place is a yummy find.

Best value BBQ in the West End

By Ben B |

There are a lot of places in the U.S. where you can pay more for much worse Bar-B-Que and worse service and ambiance. If you find yourself in the West End, this is a great place to stop, especially for a weekday lunch when the crowds are thin in the tourist area. Some of the other reviews have questioned the methods used to cook the food, as to whether traditional methods have been followed. I did not look at the kitchen, but I have to write that whatever way the ribs and brisket are prepared, they taste as good as most. I would gladly eat there again.

Good brisket and southern food

By Lou P |

Had lunch here on a Monday noon hour. Daily special of BBQ sandwich, one side and drink for $9.49. We ordered the chopped brisket. It was pretty lean and good flavor. Loved the BBQ sauce. Husband had the green bean casserole side (just like Grandma makes) and I had the BBQ beans They do have a little "heat" and were very good. Just walk up to order and your food ready very quickly. Relatively clean area to eat. Restrooms are downstairs in a strange location (take elevator and around the corner). Wouldn't send a child to restroom on their own here. Restrooms were clean though.

Great BBQ. I come here whenever I can

By Pam G |

I love, love Sonny Bryan's bbq. Every time I come to Dallas I try to come here (no matter how far away I am). There is no other bbq better to me. I wish they had a Sonny Bryan in my home state.

Best BBQ in Dallas!

By Tricia H |

Sonny Bryan's BBQ is a must for people who love great ribs and the best onion rings anywhere. They are generous with their portions and the BBQ is excellent!

More Meh BBQ

By Kovia P |

This bbq place didnt blow me away but it was better than the other Texax BBQ places so far. Ribs and Brisket had a great smokey flavor. Fried Okra was hot, Mac and Cheese was cold in some places. Sauce was meh. Layout is cramped.

Big Texas Disappointment

By FFXTravelers |

Was visiting Texas and asked where I could get some good BBQ...Not amazing, just good. They said since youre only here a few hours and cant go to a good joint, then try sonny bryan's... So I did and I was disappointed. It was the chain of bbq's. Something I didn't know when I was advised to go here. I was not impressed, It felt like a chain....Like Chilly's, Ruby Tuesday..but of BBQ... I would not recommend this place for BBQ.

A bit disappointed

By Lara S |

We ate here whilst visiting Dallas on holiday from England and had heard & read some fantastic things about this place - especially for the authentic Texan meal out. Unfortunately we found it all a bit lack lustre. We enjoyed a drink outside in the sunshine which was really nice. It has a great location in the West End & drinking outside provides a fantastic opportunity to people watch & pass the time in the sun. We went indoors for our meal & found the service to be good but the food itself was a let down. It was only luke warm, & just lacked something & certainly didn't feel like a big BBQ experience. The portions weren't that big considering it was supposed to be 3/4lb of meat. I couldn't even eat the sausage it was that greasy. The children's menu was incredibly limited but fortunately they allowed us to order a side of mac n cheese for him to eat as a meal. For over $20 a meal I wouldn't go back unfortunately & felt we maybe expected too much given the other rave reviews. Maybe open BBQ cooking may have given it more of a Texan feel. It was ok just not great.

Not the best BBQ...

By Jane T |

We came her me for lunch beach use of the good reviews. We got the 3/4 pound plate to share with okra and Mac n cheese. The mac n cheese was pretty forgettable tastes like Kraft dinner. The fried okra was good. For the meat we got the jalapeño sausage, brisket and ribs. All of the meat was okay, it was all a bit overcooked and not that tender or flavorful. They had warm BBQ sauce which is a nice touch and once you doused the meat in sauce it was okay. Best thing about Sonny's was the drink machine, self serve pickle and BBQ station and air conditioning

Texas BBQ

By Kevin W |

We went here because we needed to get some authentic Texas BBQ. This place delivers the goods! Rustic, country atmosphere in the heart of the West End of Dallas. Went on Thursday about 4, after lunch crowd and before dinner crowd, so it was quiet and not busy. We had the po'boy with sausage and brisket, and the brisket sandwich . Sides were good and tasty. Recommend these sandwiches and the potato salad and cole slaw! Order a Dallas Blonde (draft beer) and make your wife jealous! Meats are served with house BBQ sauce which comes in a beer bottle! Lots of old memorabilia on the walls to eyeball while waiting for your meal. Bathrooms are downstairs, take the elevator and remember to ask for the door code.

Bbq Texas style

By Melissa A |

Yummy! They have daily lunch specials for a good price. I had Thursday's Frito Pie. Beans, pulled pork, cheese and sour cream in s bowl over a bed of Fritos...excellent. you can add fixins...I added jalapeños and onions with some hot sauce. Worth a try. Easy walk in service, order at the register and pay. Find a table and they call your name.

My family and I stopped by Sonny Bryan's and loved the food. It is definitely a No-Frills kind of place, but the food is worth a trip. Our favorites were the ribs, the pulled pork and the soft rolls. The brisket is good but a little dry (just smother it in their barbecue sauce and it's fine.)

Best brisket ever

Brisket had a wonderful smoky flavor, cooked perfectly. Service was amazing. Everyone there was super sweet. This was a great meal.

Don't bother!

I was told I had to try Sonny's...so not impressed. And too the owners of Sonny's you cannot take a ham that has already been cured and processed and then smoke it. IT MUST BE A FRESH HAM that is smoked in order to call it smoked ham.

Just OK, not worth a stop.

Disappointed with this place (and so was my date)..Rolls at the beginning were tasty, atmosphere is big long wooden tables with interesting things on the walls (Esquire) Food was very subpar, if that. However, service was friendly!
