Best Korean BBQ

By Mystique777 |

Being a Korean, I've been to a number of Korean BBQ places and this is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. We ordered one of the combos and the quality of meats was impressive. We took some out of town guests who had never had Korean BBQ before and they were thrilled. The ban chan (side dishes) were delicious. There were some side dishes I myself had never had at a Korean restaurant before. The only big downside was that this restaurant is located in a tiny strip mall where there are only about five parking spots and most of the spots were taken up by people trying to get their laundry done at the laundromat next to the restaurant.

Delicious, generous lunch

By CindyJV |

Our boys were very excited to dine in Koreatown during our trip to L. A. We are big fans of Korean BBQ at home, so we wanted to give it a try out here. We saw some great reviews for this restaurant, and they were right. We enjoyed both the beef and chicken bulgogi, as well as the vegetables (ordered shrimp, but small goof by our otherwise great server). There were a few different side dishes from what we’ve typically had (loved both the spinach and the cilantro.) Portions were very generous.

Great Korean Barbecue and Friendly Staff

By Wunna K |

They have great meat for Korean BBQ. Friends are also very friendly and helping the guests with the barbeque. This is my go-to-place for Korean BBQ.

Great Korean BBQ

By Albert C |

We went there for lunch. Parking is available within the strip mall. Street parking is also available. Had Korean cuisine before but this was our first BBQ restaurant. Thought of ordering a set menu for two but when we asked the server he suggested a combination of one full meal plus a starter. Kalbi is their specialty. He brought to the table our salad, soup, and over 10 dishes of Korean condiments (cucumber, radishes, cilantro, kimchee, sea weed, potato salad, . . .). Then he brought the beef, spread over the grill, cooked it, cut up into bite size. While cooking he went away several times to allow us to eat. The order was plenty of us. So, unless you have very big appetite or hungry there is no need to order set meals. Of course, set meals have more variety and more $. Very attentive service. BTW, very clean restrooms.

galbi was excellent

By Kathy S |

I don't like Korean restaurants that do not marinate their beef, although I understand the (misguided) logic that people want to taste the unadulterated beef quality. Galbi should be marinated. This place is great. The galbi is so tender. The banchan is good too. Only downside is that parking is very limited, as it is located in a strip mall. Do yourself a favor and go at an 'off' time--like 3:30-4:00 pm for an early dinner.

Perfect date night

Best kbbq in k town. Super friendly staff. Hands down the best quality meat I've had in k town. Can't wait to come back

Good, but...

By r_gnr2003 |

This is our first time back to this place after 2 years. Since our first visit, we have been to many other Korean Bbq restaurants, so we now can compare this with others. We ordered the Combo 2 for the four of us, so we can sample different type of meats they serve. Taste-wise, this place compares well with others, however price-wise, not so well. The final bill came to about $40+ per person, which is nearly twice the typical AYCE Korean bbq restaurant.

Best korean BBQ

By citra a |

This is the best Korean bbq i ever had, the beef is so delicious..and they serve the complementary meal very generous..i also order sundubu jjigae and it also very delicious..even when i was going back to my hometown, me and my husband still keep talking how delicious the food was..definitely will going back to this place when i visit los angeles next time..

Best korean bbq in LA

By Dimsumbrunch |

My korean brother in law makes rsvp for soowon every few months whenever he comes to visit LA. Kalbi quality here is too notch, all the bonchon sides are delicious, and the service is solid. They have different combo tasting sets to choose from. But once you know your favorites, i recommend going straight for the favs. I have a sweeter tooth so i like the marinaded galbi but ive tried the korean style no marinade with just a bit of sesame oil and thats still good. We also love the brisket with its dipping sauce and beef tongue. Cant go wrong with these 3 kalbi, brisket, and beef tongue!

Top notch restaurant with regards to Korean BBQ

By Rayyan A |

I would definitely rate this restaurant as 5 stars. I did notice that they were very clean and kept us well organised when the bbq time was ready. Would absolutely go back there again I'll also be glad to refer any of my friends or family members there.

Best Korean food in k town

By Ally B |

This place has seriously the best Korean food I have had. The bibimbap is probably my favorite dish here , and if bar b q is your thing I have heard it’s very good quality. They don’t do all you can eat but if you want good quality then all you can eat usually isn’t the way to go anyway. They also bring out the little side dishes and the mushrooms are awesome. Definitely would recommend to anyone wanting to try Korean food .

Great Korean Barbecue

By Robert T |

The setting is inauspicious, in a strip mall next to a coin operated laundromat. Parking is tight with a valet who manages to find a spot for everyone. This is not an all you can eat place, but we sure didn't leave hungry. Meat is all prime. We went with Option B, which includes five different meats, all of which were great. Comes with ten sides, salad, soup and either soda or beer. Servers were very attentive in making sure the meat was perfectly cooked and the sides were replenished. Cost $90 for three, a real bargain for the quality of the meal and the attentive service. We will be back.

Great Korean bbq

By smdyl |

Second visit and we could eat here every night if we could afford it. Bbq grilled in front of you with as many refills on sides (various pickled things, an excellent mashed potato puree, kimchee, salad) as you want. Always crowded with good reason. Tried the macaroon ice cream sandwich for dessert. Delicious. Very tight, crowded parking lot, but each time we have come we have found parking on the street.

Very good Kalbi

By Frank K |

The marinated Kalbi 🥩 was very good. Banchan also was quite good and varied, which is what you expect in LA Koreatown. The Pajeon has more egg than average but I liked it that way. The squid 🐙 in the Pajeon was soft and good quality. The service was friendly though they didn't bring out one of the BBQ items we ordered until we were almost done so we canceled it. The restaurant itself is not that nice looking and kind of shows its age, but overall it was a very nice Korean barbecue place.

Yum Yum!

By tongotuesday |

If you love Korean Food like we do you need to go to SOOWON GALBI. Small but WO! My favorite and we have tried many different Korean places. Make a reservation especially if going for dinner. Great side dishes. There is valet parking. Our dinner for 4 was $125

Could have had a better dining experience...Oh well...

By GAGAL |

I don't like to down anyone's experience or nip pick on any business but I just couldn't let this one go. As my husband and I were in Los Angeles on vacation from Queens, New York and were on our last day in California last week. We were craving some Korean food and I found this establishment on Yelp. We are an interracial couple ( Jamaican and Korean) and mind you, we had our fair share of Korean restaurants and staff encounters from K-Town Flushing, K-Town Midtown to K-Town New Jersey. I had to write this review because it was a shameful experience. We rated the restaurant 3 stars but could have been a 5 stars due for the fact the staff could make or break a business despite how good their food is. The owners may not be aware of some of their staff behavior's ( early twenties male staff resembling a chinese actor/ martial artist - Donnie Yen - Yes I called you out.) makes non korean guests feel unwelcome as we were aware of the particular staff gossiping and laughing to their colleagues at my husband. Don't get us wrong, we agree the food was good but not raving, place was clean and modern style, and our particular waitress was alright. If the owner or the staff at Soowon Galbi KBBQ read this, please note my husband comments" whatever behavior occurred from the staff will not affect my respect for the culture and people." Despite ending a negative dining experience on our last day in Cali., this restaurant will not deter us from returning to K-Town LA. There's plenty of other Korean restaurants we will gladly give our money to with a mature staff service.

Great Korean BBQ in KoreaTown - what could be better

By Duncan M |

I'm glad our nephew eats in Korea town regularly. Otherwise we wouldn't have found this place and wouldn't have known what to order. But really it's very simple. A good supply of high quality meat, sliced to just the right thickness to cook on your own table-top gas-fired BBQ together with a variety of veges. Really, really tasty. Better than anything I've eaten in Seoul actually, but to be fair to Korea I've only been there a few days. Staff were attentive and timely. Beer is best to go with the food I think. Oh and BTW - there's valet parking AND free wi-fi - try to get that in Australia. mate.

BEYOND OUTSTANDING!

By pj1945 |

Outstanding in every way. We have eaten at at least a dozen Korean BBQ in LA's Korea Town and Soowon is, by far, the BEST!. Great service. The salads and soup were fantastic. Garlic shrimp was delicous, however, the prime rib eye steak was the BEST! Even better than at Ruth Chris and all other steak houses at which we have eaten.

not just good, GREAT Korean BarBQ

By wylieState |

Crave Korean barbecue? Soowon Galbi can and will fix that for you. We drove over an hour from the west valley in order to enjoy this return visit. Every bit of the meal, worth the time/effort. The sampling of starters, salads and their selection meats, all first rate, authentic fine examples of the style and cuisine. The restaurant is welcomely clean, well staffed for the heart of Korea Town. Well worth the effort. A wonderful example of local culinary pride, style and cultural taste.

The Galbi's in the restaurant's name for a reason

By Miles Lerner |

If you have one meal in Koreatown, consider this one an option. The prices are very cheap and if anything, the portions are BIGGER in proportion. The staff is very friendly and extremely attentive. Restaurant has an excellent atmosphere. All the food was amazing, especially the galbi, which was tender and flavorful, and the bullgogi. I would definitely recommend coming here, and I will probably return the next time I visit LA.

Worth the Long Wait

By TheLeongOhana |

We decided to try a different Korean BBQ restaurant during this year’s trip. Soowoon is a small restaurant (maybe 15 tables all with built in BBQ and ventilation hoods) in a strip mall with a Mexican restaurant, laundromat and a check cashing service. Parking was so tight that they must valet park your car ($2 lunch and $3 dinner). Luckily I found street parking but later found my car blocked in by garbage bins (I assume trash pickup was the next day). Soowoon accepts reservations and I wish I knew this before we went. When we showed up the place was full and we were number 4 on the list. We were told it should take only a half hour to seat us but actually it was closer to 45 minutes. What complicated things were the reservations which had priority and pushed out the wait times. I decided to stay near the front desk to stay visible to the hostess. My impressions: Service-very good. Our order taker had a great memory and did not write down any of our order. Delivery of the little dishes were quick and entree pace good considering there was not much room on the table. They prepped the cooktop, cooked the meats and then cut them up for us. Tea and water refills could have been more frequent, however, they ran out of tea. Environment - very busy. Hoods did a good job removing the cooking smells. Only had one flare up with the pork belly and the different servers were discussing what should have been done to prevent it. They opened the door behind our table to vent some of the smoke and poured a pitcher of water into a reservoir by the cooking area. Smoke then quickly dissipated but we smelled like BBQ. Food- All our choices were excellent and made up for the long wait. Soowoon Wang Kalbi - 2 strips of beef with the rib bone. It was cooked perfectly. We wrapped the meat in a white rice wrapper or duped them in one of the two sauces. Pork Belly (samgyeopsal gui) - 5 pieces. One piece was a bit fatty but overall very good. Steamed Egg - perfectly steamed and seasoned. Soup (Galnak Tang) - We tried this for the first time and the daughters liked it. Meat was soft in a flavorful broth. Seafood tofu (Sundubu Jjigae) - We ordered it medium but it was more like mild. Next time we will order it hotter.

Great

Ok, now I am a Korean cuisine lover. Goodbye Chinese. Good it's simple, cooked to order, delicious. All the side dishes are complimentary.

Great To Have Korean BBQ Again!

By Danh K |

My Family and I went to Soowon Galbi in Korea Town around 5:35pm and parked along the street (Francis Ave) and with our luck, we had 38 mins left on the meter cause by 6pm we didn't need to put anymore coins. It was perfect timing cause the restaurant was almost practically empty until after 6pm it was packed plus there were people waiting outside to get in. The prices are reasonable for some of the combo items that can feed up to 2-6 people. Food was very good and the assorted condiments were great too. There were the 3 of us and we chose the combo, beef slices, beef short ribs, marinated chicken, and we ordered shrimp has an extra. The servers help us cut the meats while it was cooking and the flame was hot enough to cook thoroughly. We ordered white rice has a side dish and 1 beer came with the combo, We were so full but manage to eat everything without over stuffing ourselves. Service great and they were tentative. The location is in a small shopping area. A clean and friendly ambience, in fact they have mouthwashes in the bathroom to rinse out. Haha. I would go there again but not for a while since Korea Town is not in our area.

Great Korean Food

By Mannkmm |

I happened upon this place via Yelp. I read good things and decided to try it. They actually cooked our meat for us, thank goodness. I would have not know the true timing on it. Our waiter was very nice and helpful. We ordered a meal for 2 and there was plenty of food. Loved it. White seaweed and all the side dishes were delightful. We did get there when it opened which was a great idea. And there is valet parking for 2 dollars. Do it or you will be driving around forever.

Great Korean BBQ

By gentletourist |

Soo Won is one of our favorite Korean BBQ restaurants. The combo offers a great variety of meats. The meats are of good quality and the ban chan variety is excellent. We have been coming here for many years now. The food is consistently good. Long lines on weekends so be prepared to wait.

Great find

By HPol P |

A short walk south of Wilshire, this place had some "curb appeal" that attracted the Korean in our group, apart from the other eating establishments closeby. Smallish place so expect a lineup, staff hustle and bring the good portions of meat for table BBQ. The small side dishes came with the rice wraps, a Vietnamese touch? To make little ad hoc spring rolls. Not too expensive and well worth the visit.

Bbq & regular dishes!

By Angela Y |

Although this place offers kbbq, we only ate from the regular dinner menu. Prices were reasonable and the food was superb! The complimentary side dishes were all very yummy. They also didn’t skimp on those portions either. Would definitely return!

Fantastic Korean BBQ

By APBowen |

We chose this restaurant because it was #1 on Yelp for Korean BBQ. We were not disappointed The restaurant was immaculate, there was valet parking, and the service was wonderful. We ordered many dishes to share. Try to chilled soup! Pork belly was wonderful. Beef short ribs were great. All of the sides were refreshing and delicious. We had nine big husky guys with us and all left full and happy.

Love this place !

By julie_delattre |

Love this place. One of my favorite korean barbecue in L.A. - Great service / FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE AND MELLOw - Love their sides, quality, original, delicious - good food and good deal

High quality meat, great spot!

By Michael K |

Great Korean bbq spot with great, high-quality beef! The service is fantastic - likely the best service I've gotten at a Korean BBQ joint in LA, as they don't pressure you and provide service with a smile! Recommend getting one of the combo meals (got combo A), which is a solid amount of food and is just easier to manage. Definitely a more traditional style place, but the quality of meat makes it worth the visit. Definitely highly recommend!

Amazing Korean!

By laurilie513 |

What an experience! Clean, large restaurant with tons to choose from. Reasonably priced- for 3 people we ate for under $100 and had a lot of food. They give you tons of different meat and quite a few sides. The sides are unlimited, and you can keep getting refills. Our favorite meat was the brisket and the pork neck- their specialty. The staff was attentive and helped us cook as well.

One of the best Korean BBQ resto in town.

By Happy |

If you are looking for an authentic korean flavor, this is the place to be. I loved this place, their galbi is really so good. The place is not as fancy as others, but food was great.

Great Korean BBQ

By Meraj A |

Went with family for a late lunch and had a really great experience. The meat supplied for the BBQ was of excellent quality and that was the most important thing to me. The service was helpful, and regularly attended our table to help with the bbq and cut the meat, they were clearly aware we were newbies to Korean food. They had some difficulties with english, but it was adequate enough. The side dishes supplied were excellent korean classics and quite a few of them too. It is pricey though. I ordered 3 types of meat and it was only adequate because two of us (out of 4) were my nieces skinny girls. Its not enough for 4 full grown and hungry adults. One meat item (which runs up to $20) per person is necessary I'd think. But you do get what you pay more, which is quality Korean bbq. Definitely a recommended choice in Koreatown.

Best Korean food I've had this side of Korea!

By Perry L |

The food in this place is excellent and you can tell by how long the wait can be. When my wife and I went on a Thursday night, the wait was already 40+ minutes, and Thursday is the quiet night! I'd suggest the marinated Korean Ribs (Galbi), and you'll be impressed. The portions were large, the side dishes plentiful and the service was great. We enjoyed having our ribs cooked at the table (the way I'm used to having it done) and were impressed with the flavor and how tender it was. I would strongly recommend this place to anyone who would like to sample Korean food at its best!

So Good Galbi

By MCH |

Best galbi in town! Beef quality was top notch. Their pork neck meat was marbled and a bit crunchy in a good way, you roll it up in a paper thin slice of radish, so good! The side dishes were ample, we could eat that and be full without the meat! Will definitely go back.

Great meal

By Heb2013 |

Ate here last night with my wife and son. They were very busy. We had reservations and were seated within 10 minutes. They actually do the cooking right at your table. We had beef prepared 3 different ways. The staff was very nice and attentive in spite of how busy they were. Parking is not great but they have valet. We all enjoyed our meal, I Would recommend the Soowan Galbi restaurant to any of my friends who wish to try Korean cuisine

Best Korean BBQ

By mediaspork |

This is my favorite Korean bbq restaurant. It offers great food and service. They are very attentive and the iced tea is amazing. Some of the best I have had. The meats were of high quality and they assist you if it is your first time. Well worth the wait.

AMAZING QUALITY AND EXPERIENCE!

By Landy - I Live to Eat |

Where does one take 8 demanding foodies for Korean BBQ? A real challenge, but we succeeded! The restaurant had the best Korean beef I've ever had! Thick, succulent! The service was outstanding. They didn't leave our side! Requests were fulfilled quickly!

Excelente culinary experiencia

By Patrik Z |

I have never been to a Korean BBQ restaurant so my visit to Swoon Galbi was a great culinary experience for me. Food and service was very good. I really recommend visiting Soowon if you're around Korea Town in LA.

Never go.

By seon k |

Food 4/5 Parking 2/5 Service 0/5 The waitress hits and passes, and no apologies, another waitress puts food on his head, all three waitresses have nothing to say, no expression, the worst, worst, worst service. Service Mind 0 points. You should never go to such places that you ignore customers again and ruin them.

Great experience & Food!

By BGoliath |

If you can make a reservation, please do. We got there at 19h40 and it was a 35-40 minute wait, but you can order wine. I would definitely recommend Option 1 of the shared meal at $65 as it includes a variety of meats and side dishes for you to taste and explore. The staff were great, despite being very busy and I can see why people return.

Not your typical K-BBQ

By Gsreo |

I came in thinking it was a typical all you can eat bbq. It's not. The prices seemed a little expensive but in reality an order can be easily for two. We were confused at the menu at first because the meats started at $40. So of course I went from thinking it was going to be all you can eat to now 80.00 for two and not all you can eat. What a surprise! My wife and I shared the popular bbq rib for $40.00, it came with all the sides typical of a tofu soup type of restaurant and had refill. The portions that came out for the $40.00 were amazing. The marbling and texture were to die for. The sides were all top quality as well. The meat dipping sauce, I have no words to explain how great it is. The servers were patient and explained everything well and made us feel welcome. One server explained how the owner takes great pride in the quality and sides they provide. This was the first time going to a non all you can eat and I don't think I will ever go back to those. The quality of rib meat was equivalent to going to a prime steakhouse and paying $60+ per steak. This was outstanding and can not wait to bring some friends. Great job owners.

KBBQ Yummyness

By cw8289 |

I'm a big fan of Korean BBQ. I was in LA for a quick visit from Vancouver, BC and wanted to try the KBBQ in LA. I had heard from my local hosts that this was one of the best places in town. Although Vancouver has a huge influx of Asians, LA Korean food really is pretty darn yummy. We tried to reserve ahead but they said they had had already filled their reservation quota for the night. So we would have to just go and put our names down and wait. We arrived at around 6-7pm on a Saturday and waited for about an hour for a table for 3. All Korean servers and a huge line was a great sign of good things to come. There were lots of different nationalities and ages of people lining up for dinner here. Just a warning that when you enter you should expect to seriously smell like BBQ and have a thin layer of grease on your phone even when it's in your bag! Its the price you pay for KBBQ. They also use a wood charcoal table top gas bbq. which makes the meat taste way better than your standard gas stove. Onto the food. Banchan which are the little accompanying dishes that you get with your meal were great. There were a couple that i've never tried like a mayo seaweed. We also got dipping sauces but what I really liked was the rice crepe and the thinly sliced marinated radish for wrapping your meat with. I think we got maybe 8/9 banchan dishes which included some salad. The meat itself was really delicious and obviously high quality stuff. I highly recommend the rib eye. Melt in your mouth. The beef tongue was good but I think next time i'll try the Sang Galbi (beef short rib). Kimchi jjigae was pretty decent but nothing to gush about. Service was pretty good. Our server was always nearby to make sure our bbq wasnt too hot and that we had plenty of banchan. Overall very good experience. Will come back for sure next time I'm back in LA.

Great Korean BBQ Experience

By DerekPark1 |

The Soowon provided me and my family great value and amazing service. We had 4 people in the family so we ordered Combo B, which was enough to feed all of us. It only costs $90 and it was delicious. For $90 in Korean BBQ restaurant isn't enough to feed 4 guests, but Soowon proved that wrong. Great value, great taste, lots of food, Soowon is perfect restaurant in LA. Visited in June 28th, 2015

One of the best K-BBQ experiences.

By I2863VUjen |

We were seated after a 30 minute wait. If you are debating between this restaurant and the AYCE K-BBQ restaurant nearby, stick with this restaurant. It is worth the wait. The restaurant will text you to let you know when to come back. We ordered a set meal for two which was $65 and came with four types of meat and approximately 15 side dishes and a large salad. We could barely finish the food!!! The servers here will grill the food for you and inform you when the meat is ready which is nice if you have been out travelling all day and just want to eat without putting effort into it. All the meats were seasoned well and went great with the side dishes. Our server made additional recommendations for us regarding what other foods to try in LA. One of the best meals in LA!!!

Excellent

By Bobbyoyo |

I took my son and four of his fraternity brothers for dinner. What a wonderful experience. The food was absolutely delicious! The service was excellent! We had the combo dinner for five people and added an additional meat (Soo Won Wang Galbi.) These are college students, and they can eat! And eat they did. All the sides were fresh and delicious, my favorite was the fish cake. Besides the BBQ meats and the sides, the meal included soup, a salad and soft drinks. We ordered rice and a Korean style steam egg dish. We also had an ice cream dessert. I can't say enough about the service. We were waited on by three people! When our side dishes were empty, they were refilled immediately. The wait staff did all the cooking. I can't wait to return.

Best service

By Jennifer M |

Clean restaurant with comfy booths. Enjoyed a wonderful variety of banchan, good quality meat... and awesome service! Our waiter checked on us several times to make sure we had everything we needed (without being annoying) and brought each course of meat in a timely manner. I thought we would be pushing the button a bunch of times for drinks/banchan/meat... but we hardly touched it! Left with a full and happy belly.

Traditional "Top Notch" Korean BBQ

By Jimbo |

We were in LA for a saturday outing and been craving a good Korean BBQ. After lots of research decided on Soowon Galbi. The restaurant is in downtown LA area with traffic but limited parking but please don't let that stop you visiting. Only a $2 valet and boom, your inside Soowon Galbi. We got there around 130pm and were sat within 5 minutes. We ordered the Course A and at first look lots of food but we finished it all. The meats were top notch and definitely will be back in the future.

#1 Korean BBQ in Los Angeles Korean Town!!

By Edwin R |

Read so many reviews about Soonwon Galbi for quite sometime, and finally glad I made it. I suggest if you have a party of four, order their BBQ Combo B $90. It comes with soup, rice, salad and if I remember about five different meats. They also come with Korean side dishes that can be shared with all four persons dining in. The portions are good. The server will grill your meats at your table, and provide you a bit of history about their place, and the meal he/she will be serving you. The service here was also excellent, and they were very attentive. I suggest coming here if you don't want to wait early dinner around 5pm, or around 2pm for lunch when everyone have finished. There is a wait here during peak hours, but it is well worth the wait. PS - they have a self dispensing mouthwash in their restroom. To cool! :p Until then, Cheers! ~ :p

Even Koreans like it!!!

By Steve C |

When a Korean tells you that a Korean restaurant is good, it is really good! I dine out quite often. I am Korean and I love this place over other Korean BBQ places. Plain and simple, meat is top grade, marinate is excellent, and food just taste fresh. Other Korean BBQ places will often use less grade beef and marinate the crap out of it to tenderize it. Soowon, just does it right!!

One of the best in town

By Nari L |

Very good Galbi! It's a bit expensive but the quality is out of this world! I always get good meat here. Come early, because every time I come here, there's always a long line and at least an hour wait.

Best Korean BBQ!

By Hstorm1 |

Always heard Korean BBQ in LA rocked. Soo won solidified it! Ban chan was awesome. Esp loved the cilantro kimchee. Service was great. They didn't have a bar so they made us a makeshift bar using a serving tray and stand. Only bummer was that they ran out of dduk wraps and Hite.

Excellent Korean BBQ

By Henry P |

I had an excellent meal at Soowon Galbi. I had two different types of meat with an enormous amount of side dishes. We probably could have just ordered one type of meat. Anyways, they actually cook your meat right in front of you. I was so happy for that service; because, I doubt that I would have known how long to cook it. Our waitress could have been a little more pleasant. But, she was overwhelmed with people. I do recommend that people make a reservation in order to avoid a long wait. Overall, a very good dining experience.

Fabulous!

By Desert__Duo03 |

Soowon Gambia was absolutely fabulous. The food was well prepared and the meats were clearly high quality. Service was also top notch. It was amazing to watch the meats cook and our server returned at the perfect time to turn it over. When the meat was cooked he was there to cut right on time. We ordered the Combo D (which serves 4 people). We had 4 adults and 2 kids and there was plenty of food. Highly recommended.

NICE

By Marcussii |

Very nice place to eat here!! I am definitely going back here! Staff are really nice and they do have great customer service!! My first time eating here thought it was okay place but when I arrived here I was wrong. In my surprise the service is really fast and they are very accommodating. I am glad I tried this place when I went for my business meeting here around LA

Excellent Korean BBQ

By Shannon Y |

Having grown up in L.A. and having traveled frequently to Seoul for work, I can say that this place is the real deal. The quality of meat and side dishes are excellent. The food is very current. Good service and excellent food. I don't necessarily agree with the three dollar signs. I think is reasonably priced for the quantity and quality of food.

Great place to go

By mike w |

I had no idea really what to expect from the Korean BBQ. I half expected something like the mongolian BBQ restaurants that swept through London a couple of decades ago. Thankfully this wasn't anything like that. My friend who lives here had told me we had to go so off we went. You get a table with an inset bbq in the middle. You then order your meat and it comes with a load (10-12) small bowls of different accompaniments and a selection of four different sauces/marinades. I wouldn't recommend it for vegetarians and it is not a high end formal smart place. But it is a brilliant place to go with some friends and have some Korean beer or rice wine and cook some meat and have some fun. Friendly efficient waiting staff, nice atmosphere, great food and all at a very reasonable price. What a great place to go and have some fun and food.

Amazing experience and great food

By mom2twoboys44 |

this was a great experience, the food is cooked right in front of you on a grill that is built into the center of the table. The beef short ribs were delicious. All the sides were fresh and interesting, and you could order more of any side you want. I was so full, but didn't want to leave anything so I ate until I couldn't eat anymore! There is no parking however, and you have to pull into their tiny lot and use valet parking. I ate early, at around 5 PM so there wasn't a delay in giving or getting my car. I have heard they get extremely busy later in the evening.

Great place fast service good food

By AMO |

A great place to try if you are in the mood for Korean barbecue. This unique place cooks the meat on a grill on the table. Service is friendly and fast. Prices are very good.

Fantastic

This is THE place for authentic, charcoal Korean BBQ (I believe the charcoal is imported from Korea). Delicious food and fantastic service. Must try! Just wish there was more banchan, haha.

excellent k-bbq

We were considering going to the better-known Kang-ho-dong, but didn't want to wait. This place turned out to be better, I think (we've been to the one in Seoul). Got the combo 1, with some other dishes. The meat was incredibly good, and just kept coming, one plate after another, each better than the one before. The mul-naeng-myon was rave-worthy too- perfect with the kalbi. The service was a little frantic, as usual, but beyond question fast and attentive (especially with the scissors). Would definitely come here again. Amazing value: the combo has more than enough food for 4 people, and includes beer or soju, rice, soup, etc.

Great Dining Experience and Delicious Food

We ate here while visiting our daughter --it was our first time dining at a Korean BBQ restaurant. We had no idea what to expect and we absolutely loved it. Because of heavy traffic we arrived 15 minutes late and they held our table for us. We ordered the Combo A for the four of us. The waiter did a fantastic job of bringing the meat as we needed it and came back to turn it or help us cut it. Although the sides are small the large portions of meat made up for it. Noisy but fun atmosphere. Between that and the Hite Korean beer it was a wonderful meal!

Best Korean BBQ in LA!!!

By Paul_Phelan |

What more can I say about this Korean BBQ then I have put in the title? I found this place on Yelp, & I found it to be one of the best Korean barbecue places I have ever been to in my life. Absolutely spectacular food and the prices were very reasonable. Next time I'm in LA I'm definitely going back.

too much food

Went for korean BBA. Thought it was too pricey until they brought out the 12 side dishes and meat. We could have fed easily a family of six with the two orders we had. One of chicken the other brisket. Great meal.

Delicious lunch specials

Displaced remains highly rated for good reason. We ordered to lunch specials and a soup. All tasted delicious. Highly recommend visiting this place if you're in the area and enjoy Korean food.

Quality Korean restaurant in the heart of Koreantown

By Michele A |

My daughter brought us here to this restaurant, Mind you, valet parking is cheap in this side of LA, only $2. The line was an hour + 15 mins though. But I have experienced that long lines means actually good food right? Well, I must tell you that the barbequed Korean beef here is out of this world. And the foodserver with the green-dyed hair was so generous with his time to explain every cut of meat that was on the menu B that we ordered. He told us that, I think it was the (marinated rib-eye steak) that the owner prepares the marinate herself with her own secret special recipe. All the meats melts in your mouth. He grilled the meats for us. We ordered pork belly (it was sliced so thinly, super delicious) & the beef cuts. Just talking about it makes me want to go back again. Prices are reasonable too. This place is an LA experience you should not miss when you visit Koreantown.

Good but didn't wow us

Small place. Tables for 6 have a gas grill in the center of each table. To our pleasant surprise we did NOT have to cook! The staff is amazing! They are all running around serving, food and cooking at nonspecific tables - if they walk by your table and your food needs turning or cutting, they stop and do it! They brought us tons of interesting sides. We got the Combo B for 4 of us and it was enough. The meat was good but did not wow us. Hands down the most flavorful and tender meat was the beef rib marinated 48 hours - a must. The others were just ok and in no way bad

Want to eat here again and again...

Based on the Tripadvisor reviews we came here. The seating lady told us as it was busy we can sit only for a half a hour. We agreed as we wanted to try Korean cuisine in a good restaurant. When the waiter came to take our order, we asked him what to choose as we just have 30 min. He went away and came back and gave us another table without a time limit! We choose the special dish of the menu and the porkbelly. Oh my god.. Yummy in our tummy. Would come here again and again!

Hands down best Korean BBQ in Los Angeles!!

By Jrscgsr |

I grew up in southern CA and have had hundreds of korean bbq meals, this place is hands down the best joint in all of southern CA. This place is definitely not about quantity, so if you're looking for all you can eat there are different places to try. The quality of the meats are top notch and the service for a Korean restaurant is above and beyond reproach. The waiters are constantly watching your grill and will cook your meat for you. Combined with all the ban-chan (sides), I have never been disappointed after a meal here. Definitely a must try for out of towners or even the most experienced Korean BBQ afficionado!! Call ahead and make a reservation, or else get stuck waiting for hours on the weekends. Weekdays are a bit easier for walk in.

Great food and a lot of fun

We ate here in October 2013 and loved it. This was my first time trying Korean BBQ. I took my daughter and her friend at 5:45 pm on a Friday night and we only had to wait about 15 minutes; we must have been very lucky that day. We did use the valet parking since the regular spots were filled. We ordered the combination B and two extra side dishes (noodles and soup) based on yelp reviews. I wanted to be sure we had enough food for three people and I wanted to try those dishes anyway. Well, the table looked like Thanksgiving for a crowd! We could have fed two more hungry people with what we ordered. The two teenage girls and I were so full we gave up after the third round of meat. We skipped the pork neck completely and cooked the last, best round of meat to take home (it was delicious the next day). Be mindful of your appetite when you are ordering. The two girls and I would have been happy with the noodles, banchan and two rounds of meat. If I had taken my two tall nephews instead of the girls, we would have run out of food. The waiters were very friendly and helpful. They answered all of our questions and tried to make sure I used the correct utensils for the raw meat and the cooked meat. My BBQing technique needed lots of help. I would happily come here again, but I would take more care to order an appropriate amount of food. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time for the meal too (one hour minimum; 1 1/2 hours would give you ample time to enjoy and digest).

Good food

In Montreal, we only have a few good Korean bbq restaurants; so when we came in LA, my family decided to try Soowon Galbi. Really authentic, the food was not salty, so you don't feel dehydrated after eating. The seasoning were all good. My family enjoyed the dining experience. The price was reasonable. The staff was attentive to the needs of the customers (service was very good). Will defiinitely visit this place again when we're in LA.

OUT-OF-THIS-UNIVERSE KOREAN BBQ!!!

By Sammy N |

Trendy, fabulously-delicious KOREAN BBQ in the heart of K-Town!! Scrumptious veggies, mind-blowing beef in a modern setting .. .. In a town rife with Korean eateries, this just has to be one of the best .. .. Like most places in the inner-city, SOOWON renovated a space in a strip mall on Vermont > That means very little parking so try to get there when they are not normally busy otherwise it could be a pretty good wait along with a pretty good search for parking .. .. Take a group of people, huddle around your fryer and get ready for a truly great meal .. .. A meal that almost makes one a bit teary > That's how good the meat is .. .. And fear not, nothing is overly spicy - Just delicious!!!
