Mama Mia'

By Suzy O |

It doesn't matter what you order here because every single on the menu is Delicioso. Definitely go there hungry This was my second time there and a more intimate dining experience since the first time was with a group of 10. It certainly has the feeling of one great big family who decided to invite all their friends over.

Authentic Italian food in San Antonio

By William D |

I can't believe it took me so long to get here. The Rigatoni Alla Sorrento was about as good a dish as humanly possible. They call it a pink sauce. I call it amazing. My wife had a Mediterranean dish that she just loved. The one bite I had was delicious. The wine is very reasonably priced. The Fried Calamari was ok but the homemade red sauce for dipping was unbelievable. It has a bit of "old restaurant" ambiance. Just a great dining experience. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu. We can't wait to go back. The portions were so big we have no idea about the deserts.

Neighborhood Italian Restaurant

By btramont |

We went to Sorrento's on a Friday during lent and had a lovely time. My husband had the Eggplant Parmesan which was very good and I had the Linguine and Clams. The clams were fresh, not canned. The restaurant was crowded but we only had to wait 15 minutes for a table. Our waiter was attentive and the food was very good. Another plus is that you can bring your own wine for a small corkage fee. We definitely will be back.

Took me back to Florence

By Lisa T |

We were just in Italy a couple of months ago and the dishes here brought me back there. Dishes had an abundance of food and a flavor just as good as dishes I had in Italy. A flavor hard to describe its just different and so good. If you are looking for authentic look no further than here.

Excellent food!

By isaisa |

Cozy mom and pop restaurant located in Alamo heights. Wait time - minimal Food - Excellent, we ordered: *Chicken fettuccine - It's one of the best pasta dishes we've had. Sauce is not to thick and chicken was moist. *pizza - crispy and medium portion could feed family of 4. Pizza is a very popular order at this restaurant. 70% of the patrons ordered pizza. *chicken marsala - It was ok. The sauce was a bit salty for my mother in law. *cannelloni - my brother in law loved this dish. ewwy gooey goodness. We will definitely come back when we visit San Antonio.

Shhh... best kep secret!

My husband and I always have a wonderful experience at Sorrento. We love the wait staff, and love the wine recommendations. We have yet to experience an ad meal or wine. It's our go-to spot when we want a great meal.

what a wonderful discovery

By growinggirls |

We were looking for a good local restaurant on our way to the zoo.....what a wonderful discovery in Sorrento. You know it's going to be good when a Mama figure greets you warmly at the door. We ordered pizza only - and it was by far the best pizza I have had in Texas. Wonderful blends of cheese and sauce, great atmosphere, and super friendly service. The checkered tableclothes are covered with family photos, letters of recommendation, and newspaper clippings. This place was voted Best Italian food in San Antonio for a reason. It is truly the BEST. Easy to find, fairly convenient to the zoo, and the food is worth the trip.

After a long time

By Mercedes6623 |

We had not returned, to this restaurant, for a while, not since one of our favorite waiters, worked there, quite a while ago. We also do not live in the area so, for us, it is a long drive. I had called beforehand in order to make a reservation as we were going on a Saturday evening. When we arrived, the young lady tried to sit us at a very small table in the hallway that leads to the restrooms. I saw her try to give it to a few people. We sat and a young man was our waiter. He was quick, personable and helpful. After selecting glasses of wine, we ordered the eggplant Parmesan, from the appetizer menu. The marinara sauce is good and the eggplant dish is large enough to share. The taste was very good and we enjoyed it. We ordered our favorite flavor of pizza, pepperoni with roasted red peppers and anchovies. It was delicious! The dough is crispy and a perfect compliment to the ingredients. For dessert, we ordered a cannoli. The shell was crispy and shattered when you break into it...that is exactly what is supposed to do! The ricotta filling is very creamy. We had requested no chocolate chips. It might be a good idea to try it with them next time. Ladies, the restroom is a one-seater; however, it is modern and very clean.

Mama Mia!!! Fantastic!!!

By Departure25500 |

Absolutly Fantastic!!! Don't let the informal family-friendly atmosphere throw you, you are entering in the 'Italiano Zone'. Every dish makes you want to literally lick your plate clean. The pasta is aldente to perfection, the pizza crust is New York thin, the sauces are INCREDIBLE and the toppings are so tasty. My favorite is the Rigatoni alla Sorrento. I whish I could just bathe is the pink sauce and the rigatoni is perfect. My wife's favorite is the Chicken Piccatta. The sauce is a perfect balance even each caper is perfect. Some of my friends just walk in and order the daily special because everything is fantastic and it is an easy way to decide. The pizzas have the 'seal of approval' from my New York friends. The crust is crispy and slightly sweet, the sauce is flavorful but not overpowering, the cheese is melted just right and the toppings are fresh. No matter what entrees your party orders add a small pizza to share and watch everyone's eyes roll to the back of their heads. They also have a good wine selection so don't forget the vino.

Authentic Italian in San Antonio

By Jeremy R |

Unlike other Italian restaurants that have been Americanized for the locals, Sorrento sticks to it's origins in Italy. The owner (she), is about as authentic as the food and it shows in the brilliance of her sauce. Many places like to add so many elements to a red (marinara) sauce to give it taste, but this is the best, simplest sauce that I have had in the area. I am a big fan of the eggplant parmesan and now I cannot eat it anywhere else. It's a must try.

Best Italian in SA

By Sausheim |

Best Italian food in San Antonio, hands down. Definitely order either the lasagna or cannelloni but make sure & order the one with the "pink sauce".

Always great

By LAHust |

We eat here often because it is good. The service is great and the food is consistently very good. The setting is old school. Enjoy!

Surprised, Cozy, Friendly, and Tasty

By BigHenry911 |

This is "Big" Henry, back again with another Review and 100% Authentic & Honest take on our meal: Sorrento Pizza & Restaurant on 5146 Broadway St, San Antonio, TX 78209 @ (210) 824-0055 We actually don't eat Pizza very often, but on this day, we were all craving Italian Cuisine. We narrowed it down to four possibilities and decided this spot. Let me say, this place is not very big. I love the decor on the walls. Everyone in their staff was very friendly. "Big" Henry's Rating System: As you already recognize, I apply a rating system in (#) from 1 (worst) to 10 (best). Now onto the food: Calamari (8): Were the biggest we have ever tried. However, they were cooked excellent. Their Marinara (10) is outstanding. Pizza (Created our own) (9.5): Wow!!!! The ingredients tasted so fresh and the crust was phenomenal. It was very light and airy with the perfect crunch. We will be going back, no doubt. Meatballs & Marinara (9): These were of good size and with that Marinara bite were very good. Caesar Salad (9): We ordered with an extra side of dressing. It was enough four all four of us. It was crunchy and had the Caesar Spice. Bread (6): Was in slices, but very dense. Love the butter packets. Drinks (8): Were up to par. Water came in bottle. I asked if it came from Italy. Server's response was, "Yes."... Yet, I have a feeling he was pulling my leg. Lol. We will definitely be back. Really tight, but great atmosphere. Surprised, "Big" Henry #BigHenrysReviews

Not so much. ...

By Jcsflyboy |

Went during lunch time but not that busy. The waiter Alex, every time he came to our table, would set stuff down very quickly and walk away. The spaghetti was a bit undercooked. It took me 20 minutes to get my glass of wine. I remember this place as very good several years ago. Now? Not so much.

fresh ingredients

By dipina78666 |

I have visited this establishment several times in the past 10 years and they are consistently good. Service can be just a little slow every once in a while due to the lunch crowd but it is always worth the wait. Pizza is great. Their entrées are served with fresh ingredients. Salads are crisp. I had their Pollo ala Sorrento today served with fresh asparagus, tomatoes and artichokes covered with a light white wine sauce. I am already looking forward to my next visit. If you are a pizza lover be sure to try the Gino's Special.

Authentic!

By H l |

Because I can never decide between them, I always get the margarita pizza AND the lasagna. The lasagna sauce is the pristine uncomplicated kind that I can NEVER create at home. The pizza is amazing with garlic, basic, amazing crust. Perfect leftover food too. My only wish is that they are open Sunday's so we can get there more often. ;)

Excellent Italian Restaurant

By Robert C |

We have been going to Sorrentos restaurant for over 20 years and it never disappoints! It is a relatively small place but is always full in the evenings. Reservations are not necessary as the wait is usually short. A family owned establishment with excellent service and food! It seems to cater to an older crowd (25+) but we often see children with parents. Absolutely the best pizza we have ever eaten! Always made with all fresh ingredients and baked just right! Other dishes on the menu are excellent as well. Absolutely one of our all time best restaurants! We love it!!

Great pizza and service

By marthamoo7 |

This is a family owned Italian restaurant in the Broadway area of San Antonio. I've been twice and have had great food and service every time. The people who own it are very friendly, and the place has a great atmosphere that is nice but also can be casual. I don't have kids but the place seems like it would be very kid friendly. I definitely recommend it to anyone in the area!

I really want to give a good review, but....

By monica_k840 |

The people at the restaurant, including the hostess, and the server were so nice!!! We came to this restaurant based upon the other reviews. We must have ordered the wrong entrees and salad. To start, we split a Caesar salad. There was no flavor apart from the very fresh, sweet, and crisp romaine lettuce. The dressing tasted as if a bit of water had been added to some mayo. No lemony or garlic flavor detected. I had the eggplant Parmesan. The marinara was extremely tart, so as to make my mouth pucker! Again, no garlic flavor. My husband had the chicken with lemon sauce, which was passable, but not as flavorful as expected. The very best items were the bread, which was dense in the middle, yet moist, and had a wonderful thick crunchy crust. The side of spaghetti in garlic and olive oil was so tasty, and, yes, there was plenty of garlic to that dish. The pink sauce had been mentioned in a review, and out of curiosity, I asked for that. The sour flavor of the marinara sauce remained prominent and separate from the Alfredo sauce with which it was mixed. Perhaps the next time I am in the neighborhood, I'll stop in to try the raved-about pizza, but I will not make a special trip back. So sorry I could not be more positive. I really liked the people.

Great Choice

By K.Bella |

Just went here this past week based on the reviews on trip advisor. We were not disappointed! This was definitely one of our fav restaurants of the week. Food was excellent and the best clams linguine I've ever had. Will be back next time we're in town.

disapointed on our last visit.

By oliver3060956 |

we ate there a few times and the food was always good but cannot say great. sometimes the sauce can be blend and the lasagna was just ok. On our last visit, the waiter gave us an old wine list.when we got the bill, the wine was way more expensive than what we saw the first time when ordering. The waiter apologized but refused to give us the refund on the difference stating he could not put his hand on that "old" wrong list. It's not about the money.it's about the fact. I believe that when a place becomes too popular, the owners just becomes too confident and the service and quality just goes down. will not go back.

Italian heaven in Tex Mex town!

By bigthicket |

Being part Italian, my 2 daughters had to seek out a place to have authentic Italian food when they moved to San Antonio. This place definitely fits the bill. By looking at the outside you might just think its a generic type restaurant but upon entering its nice and cozy and decorated with a nice Italian flair. There is a nice outdoor seating area as well. On my recent visit my daughters brought me here and I had the eggplant rollitini. It was stuffed with mozzarella cheese and prosciutto and absolutely delicious! The service here too was great. All the staff seemed to be Italian like the food. :) They were very attentive but not overly so. They made great suggestions from the menu. We split the cannoli for dessert and it was yummy. Tasted just like the ones I used to get from the Italian bakeries in Phillie. I definitely want to come back and try different menu items when I'm back in the area.

Still good after all these years

By PlantPowered |

I found this place 14 years after my first visit, and it was just as awesome as I remember it! Pros: Truly good food Attentive staff, a lot of staff to work the kitchen, dining room, and overall space. Very accomodating: we asked for oil w/bread and he offered to bring oil and balsamic; no pushback when we "veganized" the pizza. Anyone can make pizza, but to get the depth of flavor - Sorrentos did it. Ambiance...you feel like a regular in a family place. Cons: Small space Not ideal if you are in a hurry (both seat availability and time from order to food receipt). The low price point wine by the glass was lower quality than the price point. Overall, highest recommendation!

Down home Italian, and plenty of it!

By Wel_reisde_kerel |

Classic Italian food plus speciality dishes. Always crowded because it is so popular. Lately they have added a small patio area.

Delicious Meal!

By headduckd |

After living in San Antonio for two years, I have found a great italian restaurant. Yes, it is noisy and the service is spotty but the food is worth any hassle. I had the rigatoni ala sorrento and it was fantastic. Great sauce and the sausage / hot pepper / garlic was very good. My wife had the ravioli which she was very pleased with also. We had to wait nearly an hour on a Friday night but this is a restaurant that I will return to!

Slow sevice, medicore pizza

By Patricia G |

We chose to sit out side and the service was very slow. We ordered a medium pizza with additional toppings could only eat one piece took the rest home. I came early so our pizza would be ready when my husband arrived and it was still two beers later before it was ready. Maybe next time we should sit inside.

great atsmoshphere, great service, great location

By MLUSA |

I was dissapointed at one of the specials that I had, It was a white fish breaded. It had more salt and butter than fish. Usually the food is pretty good. I think MAMA should check this out. Hopefully it was just a one time occurance. We will try again.

Excellent

By fillyhsh |

We visited Sorrento during our trip to SA. The food was delicious - we had the veal saltimbocca and chicken parmigiana. Our server was very good, attentive. The restaurant was not fancy but the people who kept streaming in during the time that we were there told it all. Very authentic cuisine. Glad that we found it.

Great Italian Food

By idocmom |

Great little neighborhood restaurant near Trinity University and Incarnate Word College. Looked like pizza was the thing to order but we had veal piccata which was very good. The wait staff was attentive and nice.

Our new 'Favorite' Italian Ristorante

By Ryszard-Linda |

We've been here twice now and each time the food is always delicious. Service is wonderful and if one arrives early enough on Saturday evening there is no wait. After 6 it grows a little busier. They have a decent wine selection and the prices are quite reasonable.

Little Italy in Alamo Heights

By Prof Bob |

Just think of being in New York City with great family style home cooked Italian meal. This is the Sorrento Ristorante in San Antonio, Little Italy in Texas. After Papa Gino passed away, his family continues his legacy of delicious authentic southern Italian cuisine. Pizzas are excellent as are the pasta dishes. Tonight the calamari was perfectly fried and the side of marinara sauce was very well prepared. Pizzas, pastas, veal and the garlic bread are outstanding. Takeout or eat-in, every item on the menu is excellent. Sorrento is well worth a visit.

Italy on Broadway

By Mike S |

A little Italy on Broadway! Hidden gem in the Stewart Center strip mall. I'm a lasagne nut and find theirs competes with most. Offers lunch and dinner and families are welcome. A bit noisy but what good Italian Restaurant isn't ? Something for everyone. Pizza is one of the best in the area. Very homey place but comfortable to all.

Real Italian rated by a New Yawkaa Italian

By NewYorkerFoody |

Our family lives nowhere near this place and so it is about a 20 minute drive with no traffic for us. We make the trip often, sometimes just for pizza. The food is excellent, I suggest the Seafood Special. It has been the special for so long that it is no longer on the Special list and not in the menu as guests all know about it. I believe it is scallops, shrimp, mussels and more but make sure you are hungry because you get a heaping bowl of it. Pick a nice wine and you will be back for more. The service is fair, not great but fair. Again I am from NY so I expect a lot more. If the server does not visit my table after one or two bites and then to check up on us 3 more times for water, beverages dessert; then I think service is only fair. I used to be a waiter. If you want a NY style pizza pie, then you found the right place. Great pizza at a good price. This is not your fancy "foodie" pizza. This is a nice thin crust with NY ingredients that your kids will cry for once a month. I have tried about half the menu which is huge and loved it all. The atmosphere is rather loud as there is nothing to soften the acoustics and the lighting is bright so an elegant evening for two is not this place. Rather this is your old school kind of authentic Italian you find everywhere in the northeast. This is a family joint with excellent food at a good price. Mangiare (eat)

Early lunch

By Laurence |

Had an early lunch on a Saturday. The staff was friendly, the food as very good. I had the chicken fettuccine Alfredo and my husband had the spaghetti. We will be gong back again.

Best Italian in SA!

By Mackman57 |

This is the best Italian in San Antonio by far! Lasagna, rigatoni and pizza are awesome! In addition to the food, friendly staff and value are other reasons to try this long time favorite.

Small, but very good.

By HookemTravel |

This place is a local favorite. The staff is exceptional. My wife and I have come in 30 minutes before close and the staff has bent over backward for us. We are a fan of the Special Pizza~ everything~ and the calamari spaghetti, but we have tried much of their menu and have been pleased with everything. This is nice little local cafe with outside seating. My true measure of a place was met when we walked in for the first time and 2 large groups were having their birthday dinners there. This place is in a very wealthy area and the patrons could afford to go anywhere. If youre not from here, it's worth a try.

Nothing to do with the food...

By Mercedes6623 |

A few weeks ago, I called the restaurant and made reservations at this restaurant for Friday, January 21st, for 4:30 pm, to celebrate my birthday. The young lady who I spoke to confirmed my name, date and time of the reservation. When we arrived, at the restaurant, a little bit early, we were greeted by a hand-written note saying that, to please excuse any inconvenience but that the restaurant would be closed over the weekend. We did not have a plan B. What were we supposed to do? No one at even called to let me know that the restaurant would be closed. We were really caught off-guard. Thankfully, a few doors down, is a Thai restaurant called the Pinch Boil House and Bia Bar.It turns out that this is a very good restaurant. We ordered the dumplings and the fries with siracha, garlic sauce and crab. The sauce that comes with the dumplings is very good. as are the dumplings. I only wish that the dumplings were not deep fried; I prefer pan-fried. The fries were spicy and flavorful. I love red curry and theirs is great. The chicken is very tender and the curry itself is delicious. My husband ordered the spicy chicken bowl that comes with a cabbage salad. The salad needs dressing. He used the sauce that comes with the dumplings. We asked for more curry sauce and the very nice waitress brought us extra. Delicious! The wine selection is not great; however, they serve Asian beers, including Sing Thai, one of my favorites. It turned out to be a great evening but I would have appreciated a phone call.We would have made other reservations.

S. Antonio - ristorante Sorrento

By vintason |

Very good restaurant in Sorrento, prices good and very good dishes, in Sorrento know, where I can go for nice dinner

Favorite Italian in San Antonio!

By texasgirl-98 |

We are always pleased with our meal at Sorrento! The best item on the menu is the lasagna della casa (not just the regular lasagna). I never order lasagna, but tried and friend's meal several years ago and it was phenomenal! Now it's the only thing I order! My two year old son loves it as well. Great atmosphere too. Very family friendly.

WOW! Do not miss!!

By lynnsea |

We were a party of 12 and all us of Italian heritage. As such, we know quality Italian food and are very particular when it comes to Italian dining. The restaurant was the best Italian restaurant we ate at while in San Antonio over the Memorial Day weekend. Try the eggplant rollatini. The cannoli was superb. The service was warm and friendly. You will love this restaurant.

Don't do it!

By Jill M |

If you check our other reviews you will see we have given several restaurants outstanding reviews through the years and critical reviews are not our norm, but our meal at Sorrento's was one of the worst we have paid for. My wife had the Zuppa Di Pesce. It was topped by a piece of fish that was very "fishy tasting" meaning it was not fresh. The rest of the dish consisted of scallops and shrimp overcooked to the texture of being like giant rubber erasers, along with mussels that were also questionable for freshness. She only ate two or three bites and then felt queasy the rest of the night. I had the Rolatini Di Melenzane with a sauce that was incredibly salty. When the waitress noticed we did not eat much she ask about the food and we described our experience. To her credit, and the manager's, my wife was only charged half price for her $27.00 entree. The waitress told us several people had complained about the marinara sauce being too salty, it was not isolated with us - then fix it! The parmesan cheese was the Kraft kind; half wood shavings in a shaker bottle, not even an option of fresh grated at the table. This restaurant may have been good at one time but it is obvious shortcuts are being taken that should lead to it's demise before others have the same experience. Maybe we had an off night but we will never eat here again. I work too hard for the $71.00 bill I paid.

It's like walking back to Little Italy in New New...now down the street in San Antonio

By MLUSA |

The atmosphere is fantastic. The food is decent. My dish was good but it was very salty. Will definately give it another try. Great family place.

What a gem this little place is!

By Kristine C |

What a gem this little place is. It’s intimate without feeling crowded or small and never too loud, even with several families there. The food is so fresh and prepared with great care. Dinner portions are huge and the wine is poured generously, even for by-the-glass orders. We loved our caprese, spaghetti with Italian sausage and mushrooms and penne arabiatta. Pizzas are great for lunch and the welcome is always warm at Sorrento.

delicious and truly Italian

By needstogo |

Family owned and operated, Sorrento's has a truly European flavor. Their Gino's pasta (named after dad) is outstanding. Carbonara is awesome. Pizza is delish!! Awesome place to load up on carbs before a race!

great italian

By thomas e |

visited early afternoon; few customers at that time, but restaurant was extremely noisy from radio and pasta machines; decor was interesting; food was excellent and price was reasonable; will return

Yum. Best Italian Food in SA so far.

By T H |

If you want Italian Italian-food and not Mexican Italian-food, go here. What am I talking about...Bella’s on the River is expensive and the sauce should be called salsa. It’s also touristy. Now Sorrento on the other hand has wonderful homemade slow cooked sauce. The wait staff is wonderful and it is not touristy. It is located away from the tourists, in Alamo Heights. Recommend getting the eggplant. The Pizza was good too. Kinda felt underdressed wearing shorts but they welcomed us in anyway. Date night place for sure.

Great family dinner!

By Trey Carr |

We had an excellent dinner for three adults and two kids. Appetizers were a caprese salad and the calamari. Both were Great! Kids shared a cheese pizza and pasta. We had four different entrees : Parmigiana Chicken, Chicken Piccata, Veql Marsala and Shrimp Orichette. The entire dinner was lovely. Our server was amazing. His name was Miguel and I would ask for him when you come in!

It has Changed MAJORLY

By soryuluuz |

I've been going here for years, off and on. I used to be able to recommend this place. The pizza was pretty original, but a lot has changed. There has been a major Leadership, management and staff overhaul. The Taste of the food has changed and the Pizza (which has Waaay too much Garlic, btw) has changed. The mother who with her husband came from Italy and opened this place, used to be a fixture here, now you hardly see her, understandably (because of age). But you know the saying:" when the cat's away, the mice will play." No longer on the Favs list.

OMG

By AAfly33 |

If you love mussels you're going love Sorrento's. Garlicky white wine sauce to help get the homemade bread tastier. Yummy! Love everything I order every time.

Nice dinner for two

By David H |

My wife and I enjoyed another delicious dinner at Sorrento's. Both meals were great but I must compliment the special I ate. I had a chicken marshland topped with shrimp, absolutely wonderful. The portion was a good size, well cooked, with several large shrimp on top of the chicken and mushrooms. I recommend this restaurant.

Very Authentic ItaloAmerican Feel

By pigletpuff |

I really liked this place, don't let the exclusive zip code deter you from visiting, the place has all kinds of people and is very warm and open to everybody. I only get the pizza but it is so good, perfect sauce, cheese, bread, everything, classic "New York" style. It's a family run business and you can feel that love goes into the food.

Wonderful,authentic Italian food!

By Bonnie R |

The food is authentic and the service is impeccable! Their pizza is fantastic! Will return whenever we are in town!

So so sauce

By joekewl |

We went hear on our visit to San Antonio because we wanted traditional Italian food and reviews seemed pretty good. Our innkeeper also recommended this for these reasons. I ordered the chicken parmigiano and my wife ordered the chicken cacciatore. Each came with a side of spaghetti and marinara sauce. The parmigiano had the marinara sauce and the cacciatore a slightly spicier sauce. First off, the marinara was nice and thick as we like but it was way too acidic and lacked the flavors of basil or garlic. A minus for that. My chicken cutlet appeared to be fried too long in overused oil and the breading retained that burned, oily off-note. This was disappointing. Another minus. The cacciatore sauce was only a little better but it too lacked flavors. Service was very good but we went there for good taste and we didn't find it. I don't care to be negative but I grew up in this cultural cuisine and I know what's good and what isn't.

The best Pizza

By Patricia G |

We go quite often to enjoy their Pizza. They make it to your desires anyway you want it. I understand that their Italian food is alway very good but we are stuck on their Pizza. It is located in Alamo Heights just down from the Witte Museum on Broadway.

Great Italian food

By kmwinmic |

Very good Italian fare and a large selection of dishes. I had the Gamba Alla Sorrento for $22. It had 5 jumbo shrimp with angel hair pasta and spinach in a butter garlic sauce. Delicious! My husband had the spaghetti bolognese with meat sauce which was also excellent and was priced at $16. Prices are little on the high side, but the food was oh, so good. Meals include bread. Atmosphere is very pleasant and staff was very friendly and helpful.

Lunch

By TXDiamondback |

Sorrento's has changed and not for the better. Did not recognize any of the new employees. Prices are higher. The restaurant was basically empty when it used to be full. Service was average. They offered my wife a lunch salad for $1.95 and were going to charge me $4.50 for the same salad. We ended up splitting hers. The bolognese sauce tasted the same as the lasagna sauce. It will be a while before we come back.

Authentic Italian

By IraW_11 |

Went there last Saturday evening. A family restaurant with lots of energy & noise. Many children in the restaurant. Food was excellent. Very southern Italian! Menu was extensive and if Pizza is your thing it is NY style. Overall I would return because of the food!

Just like Naples

Excellent food and service reminds me of Napoli Italy where I lived for 3 years

A splendid family dinner

By Penny O |

Celebration dinner for our daughter's UTSA graduation. 20+ ppl they seated us at a long table all together which was awesome! Kathy our server was the absolute BEST service I have ever had period. The food was delicious and the portions are "take home for the next day" sizes. The spaghetti and meatballs were the BEST! From the wine recommendation to the attentive service and no one wanting for anything this place was amazing and made our celebration even better. They made our daughter feel extra special on her special day and we appreciated it very much. Everyone in our group from the grandparents to the picky teenagers raved about the food and the excellent service.

How have I overlooked this place ... Until now!!!

By Steve S |

I know this is Tex-Mex heaven but my goto cuisine is/has always been Italian. Sadly my fav has open & closed 3 times in recent years. Now I have a solid replacement. Authentic. Even the waitress (Lara) is from Italy. Next time someone tells you Little Italy is the best in SA, set them straight & point them toward Sorrento.

Excellent Italian Food

On our way out the Japanese Sunken Garden got lost on Olmos Park and found a gem to have lunch Everything was superb And I mean everything Try it, you wont regret it... but your waistline will

Average all around

By flksfhtx |

Didn't have a great experience for lunch. They must have been short on spices because the food we ordered was very bland. Service was not the best either, kept having to ask the server to refill our drinks. I would understand if the place was busy, but there were only five tables being served at the time. Left the place wishing we would have gone elsewhere.

Terrible Dining Experience

By Manuela J |

Had a terrible dining experience. I went with my four friends. I got the mozzarella sticks. The sticks were dense and the sauce tasted very watered down. Then I got the manicotti. I tasted it and it was just a big glob of cheesy mess. The pasta was super thin and every bite was just slimy cheese. My friend got the ravioli and she had the same experience. We asked for something different. We asked for pasta with oil and garlic sauce. When we got it the pasta tasted like microwaveable ramen. I told the server that the pasta was not good and he said “cool” and walked off. My 3rd friend got lasagna with the pink sauce. She ate half of it and started to feel sick. She threw up afterwards when we got home. My 4th friend got a margarita pizza. It was raw so she asked for them to cook it more. They came back with her pizza and it was still raw. We asked to speak with the manager. She was very condescending and said if we had issues we could get our parents. We are in our 20s. She also told us that we didn’t know how to use our credit cards. We were very offended because we all have jobs. The explanation she gave for the pizza being raw was that tomatoes release water when baked. Whenever we would bring up that the food was terrible she talked over us and said that she had been in the business for more than 18 years. We checked our bank accounts when we left and it showed that we had been charged 3 times and only voided once. When it was brought up to her she repeatedly told us that we didn’t know how to use our credits and the charges would be gone by Monday. She was unapologetic about the whole situation and overall aggressive, rude, and unprofessional. It’s safe to say we won’t be going back for the service or the food. If there was a zero star rating. This would be the rating for this restaurant.

Hidden Jewel

Had to get directions to find this restaurant, but well worth it. Had chicken picatta and had the most lemony sauce (which I like) that I have found. Pasta was good but not great. Overall very good meal, with excellent service.

The best Italian pasta I've had, maybe ever.

By Sheryl K |

A friend brought me here, and I thought it was a bit pricey, but you really do get what you pay for at this restaurant. I honestly don't think I've had better Italian food. I tried the rigatoni with Italian sausage, as well as the spaghetti with meat balls, and both were fantastic! There is also a good selection of wine and beer.

Best Italian in Texas!!!

Seriously, the I lived in Europe for the last nine years, I come from Nee York, and my last name is Alonzo - if anyone knows Italian food... We had the linguini with clams and mixed seafood. Ridiculous!

Always a Great Meal!

Had not been here in awhile. Did an early take out of the originals; Insalata Della Casa and spaghetti and meatballs. In was ready in 10 minutes! Great container for the pasta. It was all wonderful tasting. The pasta is very good and holds the sauce nicely. Go have a great Italian meal!

Magnifico!!

Small little joint. Not a lot of seating. Sometimes a wait. But this place is the real deal. The Pasta dishes are superb and well seasoned. The seafood is cooked to perfection. The Italian bread is delicious. One of the few Italian joints in San Antonio that we go to frequently. Highly recommend

Wonderful rigatoni with Italian sausage and chicken marsala. Greek salad starter tasty and large enough to share. Decent wine list. Inside seating a bit noisy, outside patio nice and quiet.

Good inexpensive Italian food in Alamo Heights!

By AndrewUA |

We ate here for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon and sat outside. The service outside was a little slow since the waiter had to split his time inside as well. However, the lunch specials and salads ordered were all delicious and cheap. Bills totaled around $10/pp plus tip at lunch. The side of spaghetti delivered with one of the entres was very bland though. Overall, I'd come back and try out the pizzas next time. They look really good!

Great Italian find

Brilliant restaurant The food was fantastic The spaghetti Meatballs was divine The tomatoe sauce that came with the calamari was out this world Very good restaurant for the family Very filling and good value for money

Pizza of course!

By 82dianac |

To me this is my favorite place for pizza...but you have to dine in to get the full experience and get a large pizza for the NY style effect. I've been to all the fancy places around town and this is really delicious. Doesn't reheat that well so take a hearty appetite and a friend or two!

The best non-chain Italian in San Antonio

By Frank B |

From my very first visit I have been a huge fan of Sorrento's Restaurant. Owner Maria is from Naples and her kitchen is the real deal! I love the pizza and everything else on the full menu! Pastas with meat, fish, clams, calamari, lasagna, eggplant, it's all great! I never had a bad meal at Sorrento's. It's a long drive for us but we go there for special occasions or when we have visitors wanting authentic Italian food! The place is small and noisy so not the best for serious conversation or business, it's just the best for great food and fun!

Great Italian food!

Smallish, NY style italian restaurant. Got the rigatoni sorrento which was outstanding. My wife got a chicken dish with asparagus that she loved. Great family owned restaurant with possibly the best italian food in San Antonio.

Definitely the best Italian meal I have ever had. Everything delicious from the fried ravioli appetizer to the pizza, spaghetti and manicotti. Great atmosphere and you would never believe this gem is hiding in a strip mall. Do not pass up a chance to visit!

Good food

We got pizzas which were very delicious, the pizza with goat cheese was delicious, we also got the meat lovers which had a little too much meat but can't really complain about that! Service was slow but overall a good experience.

This restaurant is consistently fabulous!! Some of the best Italian food in San Antinio. It has a cozy atmosphere and relaxed approach to the food

Great food, slow service

By TurtleT |

We visited this restaurant on our first night in San Antonio. We went on a Tuesday evening about 6pm. The food was excellent! However, if we eat here again, we'll definitely order our food to go because we spent more than 2 hours here- most of that time waiting for someone to take our order, to bring our drinks or our bill in the end. It was also really loud- great if you have kids- not so great if you are trying to have a conversation with someone across the table.

fantastic sauce

By jim r |

The marinara sauce is wonderful. I would like to try everything on the menu, but it's hard to resist my favorites when I visit San Antonio. Tonight it was the Melanzane Parmigiana(eggplant with mozzarella , topped with marinara sauce), then the Lasagna, again with the marinara sauce. It's what dreams are made of. I didn't have room for the Cannolli this trip, hopefully next time.

Hey, it is what it is. Strip center Italian. Lacks in decor and atmosphere, makes up for it with good food.

Non va bene!

By Angela |

The most terrible place, after visiting this place, I want to tell everyone that they would not go there! What this place is served this is has nothing to do with the cuisine of Napoli and Italy in general! Fully adapted for Americans, who most often have no idea what Italy is. We ordered an appetizer: deep-fried calamari. They brought us a completely overcooked, almost wooden calamari. It can be seen that this is not a fresh product, but well and long time frozen. My husband and daughter ordered lasagna ... brought something that floated in a weird sauce. My mussel soup was too salty. We honestly told the waitress that everything is very terrible, it is a complete disappointment. Couldn't eat anything. The owner of the restaurant was afraid to even go out and talk to us. Only mussels were removed from the check, but we still paid our frozen squids. Paid $ 60 🤦‍♀️. We have lived in Italy for 12 years, I am a sommelier, I do speak Italian, I use to work with tourists for food and vine tours and degustations, so I can say with complete confidence that there is not a single Italian restaurant in the city of San Antonio! Most likely, when the founder of the restaurant, Signor Gino, was alive, it was different there. But what his daughter is presenting at her place today - it is a shame! I feel sorry for the Americans, these restaurants give the wrong impression of the best cuisine in the world! Shame on you Sorrento. Signor Gino wouldn't be proud of you.

Goopy greasy pizza

By Basschico |

This used to be good-now it is lots of grease and salt. The cheap salty canned sauces are not for me.The prices are way to high for this average good.

Excellent choice!

By TexVacationGal |

We picked this restaurant because it was convenient to where we were shopping, and we were so glad we did. The staff was extremely accommodating and the food was excellent. Their noodles are from Italy! You can't go wrong with this choice.

If Italian is what you want...this is the place!

By lashcroft |

What a gem on Broadway! Everything my party had was fantastic! We ordered: Cappellini Alla Gino, Cannelloni Di Manzo, Fried Calamari, Insalata Di Caeser, and Chocolate Cake. The entrees are big enough for two. The prices are extremely reasonable- the alcohol too! I really liked that the family that owns it, still work it. I love when I stumble upon a family owned and ran place. This place will stay on our Italian food list for sure!

Over charged credit card and discrimination

By Amanda S |

They stole from us by charging our cash app an extra $150. I had my gender reveal party here at the restaurant. The bill was $1019 I paid $580 in cash and signed for a charge of $429 to total $1019. When I returned home and checked my cash app transactions the restaurant had charged my card $609.77 an additional $150 more than what I authorized. I contacted the restaurant and was told I needed to show proof and that I was charged the amount I explained. The restaurant said I only paid #1 $400 in cash and # 2 the bill was only $819 and they don't add automatic gratuity in which they did add $200 in gratuity which was added to my bill. I feel if the restaurant doesn't typically add gratuity then baecaus of discrimination they decided to add gratuity to my party because they didn't believe we would tip all this after an additional $60 in tips were received from us after we paid. Horrible service and thieves at that not to mention discrimination. I will never come here again and I recommend that no one else does either completely ruined a special experience.

One of my favorites in town

By Dominic23 |

Sorrento has never let me down. Over the years, I have taken friends, colleagues, and dates. Every single time has been a homerun. This is one of the cozier, better Italian restaurants in San Antonio. If you are in the mood for a home-styled meal, this is a great place. P.S. The pizza is great too!

Best Italian on SA

By Happy09bear |

Small and clean, this feels like you are no longer in the city! Dishes are consistent, delish and homemade by a real Italian family. Seating inside or out in the gazebo. Laura is always our waitress because she is excellent. Right on the heart of 09, highly recommend.

Best Mom & Pop Italian in the Alamo City!

By kate2004rock |

I've been to Sorrento several times--it is by far the best Mom & Pop Italian Restaurant around. I love the family photos all over the dining room --and you can see the actual family serving and in the kitchen. It's family friendly and reasonably priced. The portions are generous and the buttery sauces make you want to lick your plate! I've had good luck with Veal Piccata, Veal Marsala, Chicken Picatta (ok, so I have my favorites) but my boyfriend has enjoyed the Lasagne and some Pizza as well. This place is a local gem. Chic and Trendy Sorrento is not. Authentic and delicious--definitely!

Amazing

By Katina C |

Stopped in for a late lunch today. Restaurant is kind of hiding in a shopping center. The inside is stylish and inviting. I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, kept safe on my side. But my asked asked the waiter for his opinion and he recommended rigatoni alla Sorento with pink sauce. Both were amazing! The fettuccine was super creamy and not a dry Alfredo, which was really nice. The rigatoni dish was delicious, i can't even describe this deliciousness, but i highly recommend it. We will definitely be back when in the area

This Dish is a Good Measure for an Italian Restaurant

By bobemac |

We stopped by for a late lunch on a Thursday. The pizza here is top notch and we enjoyed it before. This day we wanted to check out their regular menu. I ordered Spaghetti with meat balls and my DW had the chicken Sorrento. The chicken was not very flavorful and it was watery. The lemon butter pasta arrived without any lemon butter. My Spaghetti with meat balls came with one meat ball. That's the lunch portion according to our server. The sauce was too thin and did not taste good. For $10 an entree without any salad is not impressive. The Italian bread is average at best, not notwworthy.

A favorite!

By Samovila |

Sorrento's serves consistently good food. We've never had an unpleasant meal or experience here, maybe just a few "less favorite." We almost always start with calamari-- some of the best in town! Not heavily breaded, super fresh, and the sauce is to die for (ask for extra bread, trust me). The pizzas are good, lasagne Della casa is fabulous, cannelloni di manze is also delicious. If you love seafood, order the zuppe di pesce. It's the most expensive thing on the menu at roughly $23, but it's a bargain compared to what other restaurants would charge you for a similar dish of linguini covered in heaping mounds of seafood (it truly is huge!) As for other reviewers claiming this is "authentic Italian," it really isn't. Not entirely, and not if you've been to Italy. Anyone who's been to Italy knows they don't have chicken parmesan there, that's an American-Italian creation. However, they do have several dishes that do cross the American-Italian line, things you wouldn't find at your Olive Garden (yuck). They have carbonara, which is a favorite in Italy but has an odd "sweet" taste here. Still, all in all, the food is fantastic. If you dine in, you'll be surprised at how many people come in for carry-out alone. Lastly, it's family owned and operated. I would rather give my dollar to a local family that serves good food made from scratch than some corporate franchise and it's factory made garbage. Try it, you'll like it, just don't go on Fridays. That's when I go, and I'd hate to see it get so busy that I can't get a table! They don't take reservations unless it's a party of 5 or more.

Perfect Neighborhood Italian Restaurant

Wish there was a restaurant like this in my hometown. Outstanding food and great atmosphere make this restaurant a winner every time. It will be a repeat on every trip to SATX.

Poor Jose

By DenverCyko |

Just had dinner at this nice little neighborhood joint. Food was OK, but the selection was why we went. Veal Piccatta is hard to find, and Sorrento's was very good, although small in portion for twenty bucks. I wanted angel hair pasta with spicy red sauce and meatballs, but PoorJose didn't speak English well, and I ended up with two pasta dishes, and then he even forgot the meatballs! We bought a nice bottle of Chianti and got some tiramisu and cannellinis to go. Wife had this alfredo dish which was very bland. My three dishes hit the spot. I recommend this place, but if you get Jose, you may have food arrive you weren't planning on.
