I recently ordered soup to go from this restaurant. We had a Groupon that was expiring that day, and didn't have time to eat it there. Previously, we have been to The Soupbox closer to Michigan Avenue. The soup at both locations is excellent! They have probably about 12 different soups each day and offer samples. I always order the brocolli cheese soup which blows Panera's out of the water. The soup is served with your choice of sourdough or multigrain bread and they also have oyster crakers if you choose. This location had grilled cheese sandwiches on the menu, but we didn't try those. The other location had wonderful build your own salads with many fresh ingredients to choose from. There isn't much seating at all in these restuarants, but it has never been a problem for us. This location also has an "Icebox" which serves Italian Ice. We didn't order any, but they were very nice and let the kids sample some. They said it was great!

Love, love, LOVE the SoupBox! Totally delicious, savory, hearty soups to warm you right up. Their creamy chicken with rice is so great, as is the homemade bread they'll serve with it. This is really a better place to grab some carryout as seating is really limited and not very atmospheric (though there are 2 or 3 tables outside), but the guys behind the counter are super friendly and helpful (hint: they'll let you sample the soups if you're unsure). I hear they're starting to deliver in the Lakeview area as well - sounds like lots of Winter days in with SoupBox soup on the way are in my future!

Just finished our soup and loved it. On a strangely cold day in summer They let us try the soups before we bought so for us it was great so we could try things that we don't have in Australia. Service was friendly thanks

This idea is just great! I got the clam chowder and it was very good! Staff were quick and extremely helpful. I highly recommend coming here. Huge variety!

On a cold night in Chicago what do you want to eat? Soup of course! And. add an awesome grilled cheese with it! I absolutely loved my grilled cheese with sliced apple cooked in it! The chicken noodle soup was good but the cheddar soup was AMAZING!

We have been to SoupBox twice recently. The last time with 4our young children in tow. The best part is there are so many choices that everyone can enjoy. Samples are available.

Our family of four ate a late afternoon lunch at Soup Box. We all had different varieties of soup and we thought they were all excellent. We had to stand for awhile and wait for a table to open up. It was very crowded!! But, it is a charming place. Salads and grilled cheese are also available. The teenagers in our family enjoyed taking photos of the menu board, etc. We will go back again!! It is perfect for a cold day of shopping in Chicago!!

Chicago winter weather calls for comforting, hot soup. We decided to try Soupbox. Although this restaurant is a franchise, this particular restaurant has received many nods and awards! The service was fast, friendly and knowledgeable. There were many soups to choose. We tried the baked potato, broccoli cheddar in the bread bowl and lobster bisque. All three were served HOT, which was much-desired! The soups were fresh with abundant ingredients. The lobster bisque had nice chunks of lobster. The soups ordered, not in the bread bowls, were served with either fresh sour dough or whole grain bread wedge or crackers. We tried both breads. They were equally delicious and fresh.

If you're craving good soup, this is the place to go. Don't look for variety, though--this location features 8 soups and "Icyfruit" and that's it.

The cafeteria in my building has better soup for a third of the cost. OMG it cost like $9. Way overpriced! Plus it is deceptive. Even the server told me everyone thinks it is $5.50 which I think is high too.

The lobster bisque was okay. I've had better but this was certainly passable. I skipped the tomato basil because it did not look appealing to me; it looked like vegetable broth. The sandwiches were unremarkable and the bread and crusts were hard. I asked for mayo and was told they don't carry it. The price was higher than what would cause me to consider returning.

Fresh, flavorful, satisfying soups and bread. Love Soup Box. I would eat here every day if I could! The Lobster Bisque is my all time favorite.

Over ten years ago i use to live in downtown Chicago . Anyone who has ever been to Chicago knows how great a dining city it is. And what makes Chicago dining great is that not all great restaurants have to be expensive to enjoy. With great antiscipation, i returned to The Soup Box. It was good but not great. It had lost a lot of it's former excitement. The concept was exactly the same but the dish options were not as good as i had remembered. I also tried two bottled craft beers. Love to support the craft brew industry but the first beer was undrinkable and the second was painful. Bernard La Borie

5 of us ate there recently while visiting Chicago. we stumbled across it while walking and exploring- 3 generations of us. I had the Rosemary Chicken, 2 had Lobster Bisque, 1 had Split Pea and 1 had Hearty Beef Stew. We all had sourdough or wheat bread and loved the soup. We also had various grilled cheese sandwiches. A filling and enjoyable lunch. A small place but many who came in had take out weekday lunches so that didn't seem a problem. We were walking so parking was not anything we had to worry about. A good break on a busy day! We'd go again.

I recently move to Lakeview and decided to try the Soupbox last weekend. The shop is small and cozy and they offer a large selection of soups. They also offer samples if you can't make up your mind. The service was quick and friendly and the soup was excellent.

Well I may have had too much expectations walking into this place. I guess I was expecting a soup nazi experience... I was totally let down. This place sells only soups... 10-12 different kinds of it. My bad, they do have grilled cheese to pair with any of the soup they have and you will get a $1 off their grilled cheese if you get their $7 soup, YES $7 for a cup of soup. You have an option to add tomato (+$.50) and meat (+$1) to your $2.99/$3.99 (without soup) grilled cheese (choice of multi grain OR sourdough). Let's talk soup... I sampled their signature lobster bisque -- SKIP this. I tried my bf's tomato bisque-- mehhh. I had cream of mushroom -- mehhh 2.5/5 rating. It's just not creamy and rich. Although I'm sure it's fresh, it's just lacking the texture and taste for a $7 cup of soup. Not worth it. Sorry. So I gave this place 2 stars because there's no half ratings. Plus it's way too expensive for the taste. NEEEEEEEEXT!!!!

I had delivery from The SoupBox on Broadway during a recent stay in a nearby hotel. It was delicious, and I would recommend it to anyone. Menu was varied, interesting, and I loved it!

We were running errands and stopped in for lunch. We order the lobster bisque and a grilled cheese sandwich. Both were good, hot and fresh.

The other place in Chicago I try and visit every time I'm back in town. Great all year round and lots of options. Give a mix a try ( pick any two soups or ask for a recommendation!) The staff is always very friendly as well! Great place for lunch!

Maybe we got the wrong items, or maybe it's the jet lag (coming back from Thailand with a 13 hr time difference), but this meal was not worth $30 for two people. The grilled cheese is super oily and the soups taste like they came out of a "gourmet " can. Should have searched for a Panera instead.

They make a dozen soups a day. Some regulars like creamy chicken and rice and some specials like the turkey chili that I had. It is all about soup and they have a lot of things to put on top like grains and special stuff. The chili was about an 8. For turkey it was a 9 for chili it was about a 7.5 . I am hard on chili so you would probably rate it higher but beef chili is hard to top.The place was comfortable, they have a bunch of canned cold drinks of many types. The people are pleasant and the price is average for the area.

Great small place to get a cup or bowl of great soup and bread. More vegetarian options than normally found anywhere. Great friendly service. Having a difficult deciding which soup to choose. They will let you sample them to help you decide.

The soup box is really tasty. The staff is usually pretty friendly and willing to let you sample the soups before to help you decide which one you want. It is a little expensive for soup but the soup is really good! Definitely recommend if you love soup!!

When traveling, I get tired of eating out, this gives you a taste of home. different types of soup and you can test everyone before making your decision. Offers gluten free and vegetarian choices which is awesome

Little pricy, but ant complain about the food, both were super tasty Think they have around 10/12 fresh homemade soups every day.

Small cozy store in Lakeview with a patio for summer days. Great selection of soups, all home made and fresh. Try it in the winter, but also in the summer. It's so delicious you will want to go back the next day!

We were in town for the holidays and a member of the family got a cold and was craving soup for comfort. SO glad we found Soupbox. The menu was concise but had a little bit of something for everyone. We ordered the Lobster Bisque as well as the Beef Stew. You gotta try the Beef Stew…wow! To make this short and sweet, the quality of the soup is incredibly high, the portions are generous, and most importantly, this is a mom-and-pop shop that employs a small group of local Chicagoans. Support this great place; your palate, your stomach, and your good-deed meter will be so happy that you did!

Soup places are too far and few between - glad my friends and I found this one. 12 fresh cauldrons a day of yummy, delicious soups. They allow you to taste the soups before you order as well which is a nice touch. Grilled cheeses available of course though the soup could fill you up on its own. Friendly staff and they carry IBC cream soda and root beer which is also a plus. Reasonable prices and free crackers!
Our Favourite Soup Place in Chicago
Awesome staff, Great Soup and Pocket Friendly. Tried their Cheddar Brocolli, Lobster Bisque, Clam Chowder Soup on our first visit and we're hooked instantly. They'll let you sampe the soup before buying and since we were there on their Anniversary, they gave us complimentary Regular Soup in exchange of one Like on their Facebook FanPage. We'll be back for sure!
