Filthy, slow service, old food

By KristaP792 |

Was not impressed with the south Atx location off Ben White and Lamar. We waited so long to buy our buffets when we first got there and no one ever came to check us out. Finally, we just sat ourselves and when the server came to the table, we told him we hadn't paid yet. The floor was full of food crumbs and the food was old.

Healthier Option at a reasonable Price

Soups / salads / cold pasta dishes / fruit / muffins / ice cream / warm pasta or roasted vegetables / thin crust pizza / taco making area / potatoes / bread ---- a great selection for a decent price.

Generally like these, but this one is filthy!

Clean, Friendly, and Fresh

By cabowife |

I love salads and decided to give Souper Salad another try. I am so glad we chose this one! The salad ingredients were plentiful and fresh. This particular location was exceptionally clean and while it was extremely busy at lunch time, the staff was attentive, prompt and pleasant.

Pitiful

We've dined here a few times before when the wife wanted a salad. I've never been impressed, but the place was always barely adequate. Last night was awful. They did not have broccoli and only had chopped tomatoes. I prefer cherry tomatoes. Their salad dressings are not good; they never have vinaigrette so I have to request it. It's edible, but not that impressive. The only onions that were available were red onions. I am an onion lover, but I do not care for red onions. They are overused, primarily because they 'present' better. But their flavor can't match a good, sweet yellow onion. The onions this evening were so hot I had to dig all of them out of my salad before I could eat it. The olives are cheap and tasteless. We tried every soup and they were all either bland or overspiced. Neither of us could eat more than one bite. The chili was full of cumin; that's all you could taste. There was some kind of Italian chicken soup and all you could taste was oregano. The gal who works there is tremendous. She always tries her best and is very attentive. She received a good tip, but my tip to you is: stay away.

Good variety of food for the price

I ate here today. Paid $7.89 with tax. It's not the fanciest food in Austin, but it is a good variety of soups and salad fixings for the price.

Past its time

Too many places have great Salads these days, Souper Salads has become a type of yucky buffet like golden corral witout the meat.

Not what they used ro be

By mimiMexico_df |

Many years ago, I loved to eat at this restaurant chain. So when I stumble today with it, lots of happy memories rushed in, and I was simply delighted to try it again. The place looked old. Many empty tables, still with dirty dishes... The salad choices were very common. Nothing to die for. And its a salad restaurant! Two different choices of letuce, a pseudo bluecheese salad, abd some spinach. The veggies to build up the salad were boring. The soup was to salty.... And the Taco's meat.... Was uneatable! Not again ill keep the memories and avoid the restaurant

I remember it being tastier when I was a kid, but I guess that's because I got to eat their cornbread back then.

My Diet

By Doogie4 |

If you are on a diet or new 'life style' you can CHOOSE to eat right at Souper Salad. In 4 months time I have lost a bunch of weight eating here. And I never leave hungry. Great soups to choose from, make your own salad with all the fixins. Clean, healthy and 'it works.'

Great Food and Service!

My husband and I have gone to Souper Salad for several years. The food and service was awful in the past. Now there is a new owner/management. The new owner/management is alot better. The food is fresh and great. They make sure everything is stocked and fresh. The service is really great. Ask for Susie or Alex. The manager is very attentive to your needs. He came by our table to make sure we had what we needed or wanted. We would highly recommend Souper Salad to our friends and family.

Fresh food, good variety

By 172542 |

This was the first time I had ever visited a "Souper Salad" restaurant. There were a few different kinds of "greens" salads along with apple salads, noodle salads, and other various dishes. The salads were quite fresh with numerous items condiments and dressings for the salad. There is also a small selection of fresh fruit. There were four different types of soup; I tried two - both delicious. There is corn bread, blueberry bread, bread sticks, pizza, a small taco bar and an ice cream machine with some toppings. Souper Salad is nothing too fancy but it gets the job done. The price is good ($7.29 for all you can eat in the evening) and the food is fresh. The employees are friendly but they seemed a bit under staffed and were slow to clear plates. All in all, this was worth the stop and I would go back again.

Yuck!

My husband and I were nostalgic for California's Fresh Choice restaurants and found this place. NO! Not clean, poor choices in food and my husband got very ill.

Lunchtime adventure!

By PinkPower2005 |

Myself and 2 other co-workers try to come at least once a week to this place for our hour lunch break. Because we frequent there so often, we've became acquainted with some of the amazing staff there! They are truly all amazing and kind people who know what they are doing and love what they do! Alex is one of the waiters we usually get and he's the best! Even in the lunchtime rush, he's totally on top of his game! The gentleman that goes by BEAR is also a sweetheart who became familiar with us, always willing to chat with us for a minute to see how we've been since the last week we were there. The food is always fresh and in full supply, I've never had an issue where we waited more than 30 seconds for something to get replaced so kudos to the back area staff! All in all, this place is great and we look forward to our lunchtime break next week! :)

Great soup and salad bar!

This restaurant had one of the largest soup and salad bars I've seen. They also had several desserts that were good as well. Service was nice.

Great Deal

By bostonphil777 |

Souper Salad is a great deal. Lots of variety. Many choices. You will leave satisfied. Food is tasty but I am not certain how healthy the food is. When there, I eat items that I would not normally eat and I have my concerns about how healthy some of the dishes and items are. There are usually four different types of soups but often most of them are complicated. They try to make them too fancy sometimes. I would prefer just a simple vegetable or chicken noodle. Souper Salad offers a senior dis count.

Still Great Food and Service!

Since Souper Salad is under new management my husband and I went in January to see if things had changed under the new management. We were very happy with all the changes. We went back in February to see if everything is still the quality we want. The new management is very involved in making sure the food and service is A+. We would highly recommend Souper Salad.

Great service, the soups and salad-bar was a great bargain

By Jason A |

I loved the turkey-holiday soup, and our waitress. Perhaps people should be encouraged to tour the bar before moving directly into line at the salad portion of the bar? The taco bar was appreciated, but the processed cheeses and multiple breads were less exciting than the soup and service.

Fresh food everywhere I turned

By larrylG356TI |

Sometimes, the salads at "salad bars" are not too fresh and full of hard hearts of lettuce. Not so with this visit to Souper Salad at Lamar and Ben White. The salad and all the trimmings looked and tasted fresh and delicious. The shortbread cake chunks were great with the strawberry topping and whip cream. I was also pleasantly surprised by a great broccoli and cheese soup. Good this most of the ffod was low cal, because I ate too much.

Greeat "blue collar" place to eat

By John B |

We have been to this place several times. You get a giant salad bar, 4 different soups, baked regular and sweet potatoes with all the toppings, hot breads, pizza, all the trimmings for nachos, and ending with ice cream with all the toppings. There are soft drinks also. A lady who ran the cashier location, bussed tables, made sure everything was working well, and did it all with a smile and talking to us all. A super star lady!
