This was our 2nd trip to SCK, it is consistently delicious. Appetizers- love the Pimento Cheese Starters - Pear salad, Cesar Salad, Lump Crab soup all tasty. Fried chicken is perfectly cooked SCK Old Fashioned is a must for bourbon drinkers

The chicken and waffles <<<< by far the best I’ve ever had 🤤 love this place!!! The mango mimosa was refreshing and fresh! The peach jam was so good too. Awesome service, awesome atmosphere and awesome food.

Very good; menu was different than I expected based on other reviews. Very Southern. Tried to sample many things and it was all good. Located in a converted old house giving the place an interesting and quaint vibe. One downside it was very loud.

Make a reservation as this is a popular restaurant. We did make a reservation and showed up early lucky enough to get seated immediately. The menu has several interesting choices, but we settled on fried green tomatoes as a starter (shared and they split one generous order on two plates so we could share more easily), Carolina trout with spaghetti squash and Rabbit casserole as starters. Both very good. Interesting wine and cocktail menu but the bar got backed up and drink service was slower than it should have been. Service is very good. There is a loft section in addition to the main floor as well as street facing patio. Inside, the noise level is up making conversation somewhat difficult depending on where you sit. Definitely worth a visit.

Great atmosphere with energetic and engaged servers. Drinks are delicious. Fried chicken was good, but I think my expectations were a bit too high. I would still go back to try the many other great sounding items on the menu.

We didn’t have reservations and sat at the bar for dinner. Ashley took care of every need. She was great to chat with, offered excellent recommendations and made a great old fashioned. Great vibe, had fun with the staff and other patrons. The food was excellent matching the great service. We will be back.

Not many restaurants can boast the longevity and continued excellence of Midtown's South City Kitchen (SCK). This mainstay of Midtown is a must for the true foodie, but expect to indulge in fine traditional Southern fare such as the BEST fried chicken in town or the juicy pork chops or the jumbo lump crab cakes. The menu is varied and each meal a delight. I've been eating here for 20 years now, and this place continues to deliver exceptional food with each visit. My only complaint is the noise factor when the place is full. So request to sit out on the enclosed patio for a more quiet experience.

This is a favorite dinner spot not to be missed. If you want to experience southern cuisine done very well and upscale this is it. The food is amazing. Fried chicken not to be missed. Steaks and Pork Chop plates awesome. Biscuits, Cornbread, fried green tomatoes, it goes on and on. Great coctail menu. Staff always welcoming and on it.

This is a great restaurant!! The food was delicious, the neck had plenty of food and beverage options! Most importantly, the management and staff were awesome!! I mistakenly entered the wrong date on open table but they graciously found us a table within minutes. Waitress was so nice and Food came out quickly and hot 👍👍👍👍

We visited the restaurant for lunch will staying in Atl for a wedding. We were taken aback by the staff friendliness is our pandemic restrictions. Our food selections were absolutely amazing. We each tried a different entre. The she craving soup, fried tomatoes with goat cheese, the Big Biscuit, chicken and waffles and my favorite, the chicken livers. OMG! Chicken livers with sauted onions on a bed of sweet corn. I added a scrambled egg to make it outstanding. The biscuits and cornbread with peach/butter were delicious...fresh and warm. Overall a very GOOD experience.

Always jammed, reservations essential. Consistent high quality always hot and fresh food. Creative twists on all your favorite southern dishes. Capable if busy wait staff.

Lively restaurant in an old house. The food was excellent. Lots of care and COVID protocols followed, well spaced out tables, all staff wearing masks. Restaurant does apply a 20% COVID service fee in lieu of tip. They told us this before we were even seated so no surprises. Service was excellent. Had fried green tomatoes and homemade pimento cheese as appetizers. Shrimp and grits, fried chicken and braised pork were all very tasty.

High end southern with my go to Pork Chop. Nothing better for the fall. My wife loves the chicken and the fried green tomatoes.

We celebrated my husbands birthday there. I ordered the fried green tomatoes were tasty. The chicken livers for me were ok. The fries chicken was excellent in a buttermilk better. The grits were heavenly. So delicious. The service was good. Our server was very friendly polite and knowledgeable about the food. I would go there again.

At lunch time on a weekday my guest and I were greeted and seated immediately. The restaurant itself is beautiful and classy yet full of character. Our server was attentive and friendly as well as the manager that stopped by to say hi. I had the smokey beef brisket sandwich which was very good. The chips it came with were great but their fries were fantastic. The mayo-bbq dipping sauce was delicious and the biscuits and cornbread was appreciated. I will certainly be back!

The trout was cooked well, the liver was seasoned nicely (needed an additional texture), the crab cake was just that- one crab cake, the fried chicken was juicy, the greens were so full of flavor, but the star of the show was the shrimp and grits hands down. I would go back for just that.

Centrally located in Midtown and popular with locals. Ideal to get to know the Southern cuisine. Very nice atmosphere and courteous staff.

I had a Grilled Salmon and it was tasty. I also had a Banana Pudding which was a delicious dessert. The service was good and the staff was quite friendly.

My family and I stopped at this spot last weekend before Thanksgiving- and it was excellent! I’ve been here with business guests a few times before and while it is not inexpensive- it more than makes up for that with service and amazing food….

Great experience. Nice atmosphere, great and quick service, and awesome food at reasonable prices. We loved the fried chicken.

Absolutely fantastic dining experience. Ushered right to our table, the atmosphere was dimly lit, perfect for a late night dinner. Our courses were perfectly timed and our server, Pablo, was outstanding and entertaining. It has been a long time, Pre-Covid, since we had such an attentive, well spoken server. Thank you for this delicious experience!!

What a great restaurant!! The waitstaff was wonderful and recommended the fried chicken. The food was so great, we brought back the rest of the family the following night before a show at the Alliance Theater. Absolutely delicious!! If we come back to the area, we will be back!!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

This restaurant is a hidden gem in mid-town. We didn’t have reservations, but they were able to accommodate us. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The food was great as well. The only slight drawback is it was a little loud, but it wasn’t overbearing. Definitely would eat here again.

Sorry, but I just can't go back. The food and service at SCK remain very good to excellent. Unfortunately, the noise level continues to be off the charts. Not from music, from the sound of voices bouncing off the hard surfaces and the close quarters. This is the third time I have dined there this year for a business dinner. When I have clients who would like a "southern food" experience, this has been my go to spot. No longer. Each time I have been lately it has been with a group of 6 to 10 folks and it is so loud we can only talk to the person next to us. I could barely hear the person across from me. others reported the same experience. Heck, the waiter had to lean in and was almost shouting to be heard. Just can't see going again.

My husband and I are in Atlanta for 4 days just to explore the city. This was our first night and we decided to have dinner at South City Kitchen in Midtown. We could not believe that on a Tuesday night there was a wait, but we knew that was a good sign! Our waiter (Manny I think) provided excellent suggestions regarding the menu and his service was second to none. We started with the spiced cauliflower appetizer which incorporated the most wonderful flavors. My husband had the 1/2 fried chicken and 1/2 shrimp and grits which included collard greens. I ordered the pork chop which came with sweet potatoes (more like home fries) and brussel sprouts. To say we enjoyed our dinner is an understatement. Every bite was pure bliss and it is evident that the chefs take pride in their craft. To give an idea on the prices, we only paid $117 plus tip, and we each had two drinks, an entree, we split one appetizer and we brought home one dessert. The atmosphere at South City was cozy, yet sophisticated, and we loved it so much that we are actually considering enjoying another meal before we leave:)

Excellent brunch spot in an interesting old building with 2 floors for dining. Service was friendly and attentive. The menu had a variety of brunch plates with a southern twist. I had the king biscuit which was an egg, ham and cheese smothered with sausage gravy. Delicious!

A few people had recommended this place to me and I definitely can see why! The fried green tomatoes were PHENOMENAL. I could’ve done another order they were so yum. Staff was super friendly too!

This is a classic old school restaurant. It has all of the ambiance of a restaurant of yester year. Men are wearing jackets, women are wearing dresses. But, you can wear what you want. We sat at the bar! Excellent food. So fun to watch them prepare it all.

Awesome brunch. Fried chicken, chicken livers, pulled pork sandwich, etc. all excellent. Vibrant atmosphere and great service.

We visited SSK’s original location for drinks and appetizers and couldn’t believe we hadn’t been to this location before. It’s in an old house with an upstairs and outdoor covered patio with lots of charm and character. The service was outstanding and the drinks/food were great. We had she crab soup and the fried green tomatoes. Loved the roasted pepper sauce! They split our soup and tomatoes without us asking so we could share. Great experience.

Fantastic. The Cornmeal Spoon Bread is one of the best appetizers I’ve ever had. The service was top notch. I had the trout. It was great. She had the lamb. It was wonderful too. We loved this place.

We came here for brunch. The atmosphere was nice, but it was a little loud in the restaurant (we sat upstairs). Our waitress was very nice, but she was chatty with everyone so ordering and things took a little too long for my taste. I got the crab cake appetizer and a side of grits, and I was definitely full at the end. The crab cake was good, but the portion was huge so I couldn't eat it all! The grits were nice too. Overall a good place to stop for breakfast.

Great service with nice views. The bread is good and the cream is awesome. The fried chicken and mash potatoes are good as well

This restaurant is fabulous! We chose it because it was within walking distance of our hotel. When we made the reservation, they asked if there was a special occasion. They called us before our arrival to gather more details. We were celebrating the birthdays of both of our adult children. When we arrived, there was a birthday card for each of them at the table along with personalized menus. We were all shocked and delighted. But the best part was yet to come. The food is amazing! We are the kind of diners that frown upon duplicate meal orders. Everybody has to order something different so we can all share. We usually vote one of the meals as the winner of the evening. That was extremely difficult to do here! I have never eaten a pork chop so delicious nor have I ever had better shrimp and grits anywhere, and I’ve lived in the south most of my life! The weight staff was attentive and fun. It was an overall amazing evening. We will definitely be visiting again.

Two trips — brunch and dinner. Everything was tried was fresh and delicious. The shrimp and grits were particularly good but we enjoyed all the offerings. Wonderful fresh biscuits with apple compote. We would absolutely recommend and happily return.

One of the best places I have ever eaten…no kidding! I love “real” southern food and it’s hard to find that in southwest Florida where I live. My 19-year old granddaughter and I went here based on the reviews on Tripadvisor. We shared appetizers, salad, and dessert and every bite was spot-on good!! As a vegetarian it’s hard to find dishes in some restaurants. This place even has vegetarian collard/turnip greens- I was in heaven. The atmosphere was wonderful and the wait staff amazing!

Went for lunch. First experience with chicken and waffles for a California guy. Waffle was one of the best I’ve ever had. Chicken was fried to perfection. Fried Gerry tomatoes (also a first) and chicken livers were excellent. Served with a starter of biscuits and cornbread muffins. This place can’t be beat. Better be hungry here.

We made a 12:30 reservation on a Saturday and got right in. The server was super helpful with drink suggestions because we were picky. Everyone there was friendly and kept checking to make sure we were doing good. The drinks took a little too long to come out, but the food was fast. The chicken & waffle was delicious although little pricey (but that's expected of ATL) We would go back. My friend loved her grits so much she wanted some to go. If you have issues with stairs be warned the bathroom is upstairs

This establishment is very pretentious and overpriced. They do not serve traditional southern food. It is more fusion than southern. Our server dropped the ball at the end of our meal. She and other employees kept bringing wrong drink orders to our table. Once we brought this to the server's attention she changed her attitude and purposely dragged out her slow service. She was vindictive and spiteful. She behaved like this even after we spoke with Mike, the GM. This establishment is phony and not traditionally southern. Do not be fooled.

This is a great venue. Loved, loved the food! Great She crab soup! Wonderful corn muffins and biscuits. They have a good drink menu as well. Most of the people had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and collared greens. That was excellent. Another person at our table had the pork chops and he said they were the most tender he has ever had. The banana pudding creme brûlée was amazing. Definitely a must. We tried to go back again but couldn’t secure a reservation. Reservations are definitely a good idea with this restaurant.

Amazing brunch. Everyone was so pleasant also for us being first ones that morning. The cornbread and jam to start was so good.

Four of us met and the food is OK, not worth a special trip to midtown. The noise level is absolutely painful- you can’t have a conversation or business meeting. We won’t be back.

South City Kitchen was one of my favorites many years ago. I had not been in a while so decided to have dinner here prior to the opera. What a disappointment. I ordered the trout. pan fried with a crispy skin on a bed of pears and vegetables. I ate half of the fish because I was hungry, the skin was not so crispy but could not eat anything else. It was not a well executed entree. A sad waste of $32. The pear salad was delicious and the biscuits also. The strawberry shortcake could have been excellent as the flavor was delicious but I don't think there were more than 2 sliced strawberries on it. The meal was disappointing but the wait person was delightful. My dining companion had the fried chicken, greens and mashed potatoes. She said they were delicious.

My sister and I scored dinner reservations here. We were seated promptly and our waiter Shawn was attentive but not overbearing. We just decided to go with some of his recommendations and shared the fried green tomatoes, pimento and shrimp and grits. This meal was amazing. I’ve eaten at restaurants all over the world and although this was a straightforward meal it was so rich in flavor. Everything was served at the right intervals and tasted liked pure perfection. I wish we would have had room for dessert.

Don’t usually write reviews but this restaurant was so outstanding, decided that I needed to write something. Sat at the bar because it was busy and we didn’t have reservations. The staff was friendly and chatty. The service and food were outstanding. Would definitely go again!

Had lunch for the first time here The biscuits and corn bread served before our entrees arrived were warm and very tasty. All the entrees were good with very friendly service. The fried chicken was especially good and well seasoned. Seemed to be a place worth coming back to in the future.

First time in Atlanta, and boy did we get spoiled with some amazing food. FYI, when you want to know where to go... Uber drivers are great resources for good eating spots. That's how we found this place. Excellent experience from the start. It has a fun, lively atmosphere, especially indoors, and you can also be a little bit removed in the the outdoor patio (where we were). Firstly, the food - Incredible. You know you're going to get some rich food in the south, but here their ingredients are fresh and elevated. (By elevated, I don't mean They go crazy with fancy smoke or giving you 1 piece of okra with a butterfly's wing and call it art.... no no no, not here thank god) I mean that their Fried chicken is locally sourced, juicy as hell, and prepared with a lot of LOVE. I also recommend the Pork Belly App, Fried Green TOmatoes, and their Southern Caeser. And Secondly, The SERVICE - ACES!!! Kenya was the epitomy of southern charm and warm hospitality. She was engaging and actually cared and connected with us (as opposed to plenty of CA joints where I live that ask with their heads down "whatdya want, Boss?"). No, Kenya took us through the menu and helped us have a lovely Atlanta Experience. Drinks, apps, offered dessert (which we didn't save space for). I almost loved the service more than the food, but in all, it was an amazing experience, and I can't wait to go back again. Thank you for really seeing us and bringing honor and care to the service industry.... (written by an ex-server and wine specialist of 20 yrs)

Had an amazing business dinner here. Pablo was our server - highly engaged and knowledgeable on both food and wine menu. The fried chicken was exceptional along with the Pork Chop - wow. Tender, perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The fried green tomatoes were top notch as well. I will be back back soon.

Sat at the bar,Evar and Penny greeted me warmly. I was in the mood for a drink ,but not a bloody Mary. Evar ask me what I normally drink and I said vodka. He made up some lovely concoction, it was delightful then I ordered the pan fried chicken livers. I fully expected to eat more than that. They were so lipsmacking good I was full and could not eat more. Evar prepared some other incredible concoction from vodka and surprise! It was as good or better than the last one. Highly recommend this place! It’s fun, it’s friendly, and the food is exceptional!

Unfortunately we had a bad experience. My husband ordered which was the butcher steak and it came with a long green rubber in the middle of the vegetables. I choose this restaurant because it showed that it had 4.6 stars online. I wanted quality but even my mahi fish was floating on oil.

My sister and I were strolling through midtown with her four month old child. We happen to see this restaurant and as we approach we realized there were only stairs leading to the entrance we then saw the outdoor patio and proceeded to enter upon entering there was a Waite with a beard that immediately gave us a look of this tease and told us we cannot be in here. Taken aback I ask why and he proceeds to say we need to go to the front to get a table. I didn’t say we clearly have a stroller do you have a ramp? He said no you need to still go to the front. I didn’t say we clearly can’t take the stroller and he says we’ll you (pointing to me) can go and she can stay. Flabbergasted that he was talking to us in such a manner I tried to remain calm and proceeded up the stairs to the hostess. The hostess greeted me with a cold hello and I proceeded to ask if I could get a table for two outside. She then asked slightly rudely do you have a reservation? I responded no I just clearly asked for a table. She’s been types on her tablet for about 3 1/2 minutes while I just stand there. Mind you there was only one set a table outside and 11 empty tables. She didn’t grab two menus and walks the long way around to outside. As we go outside I see an Asian lady sitting my sister in the far corner and moving a chair for the stroller. I sit down and the Asian lady looks at me and then her and ask do we have a reservation. I look at her with a quizzical look and state we clearly just were sat by the hostess. She gazes at us for a second more than walks off. My sister then tells me that that’s the third time she asked if we had a reservation. At this point I am a palled and I go back to the hostess and ask to see a manager. I explain to the manager everything that happened and as I explain the managers face gets more and more horrified. She apologizes profusely and explains that is not how her employees were trained and she would be having a word with each of them. I initially just wanted to leave the establishment but she offered us appetizers and asked for us to stay so I obliged. Unfortunately even though our experience was tainted by rude staff our waiter was nice and made sure we were taken care of. The food was OK but I probably won’t be back.

My husband and I were staying in midtown while visiting Atlanta. One rainy, cold night we didn't want to venture too far from the hotel and discovered this restaurant nearby. Midtown doesn't have a lot of good options, but this place was great. It was super busy on a Thursday night but we were able to get two seats at the bar. It seemed there were a lot of large work groups there so it got pretty noisy, but sitting right next to each other at the bar worked great. The service was great and food delicious. They have a drink called a Shawshank which we loved so give that a try.

We visited on a Friday night as a family of 3 and had the good fortune of Andy as our server. He proved to be a trusty guide to the menu and insightful on the house specialities and the best wine to accompany them. We had an exceptional evening with delicious food that had taste, and flavours that we were just taken aback with - it was sooo good. We love eating out when we travel and I can truly say the food that night was out of this world. Something different, something wholesome completely moreish we finished every morsel - aka soul food. So for my memory bank and for yours - 3 adults ; we ordered the shrimp and and the fried green tomatoes to share with our cocktails. We then moved on to a bottle of red Zinfandel ( 15%alcohol) that packed a punch to go with our mains which we shared, the chicken ( soaked in brine cooked to perfection) with collared greens and mashed potatoes, the NY strip with garlic butter and then the shrimp and grits as it was a ‘must have’ double shrimp menu but so so good. Finished with one banana trifle and 3 spoons. Still talking about it. The restaurant was noisy as other reviewers have commented - we had our booking for 7pm. Its popular and the atmosphere is probably already buzzing if you come at 6.30pm and avoid the big noisy groups. Thank you Andy, we loved it.

Great Southern fried chicken with authentic southern side dishes which made for a great experience. Service was great with a nice atmosphere

My wife and I had dinner at South City Kitchen for the first time on Sunday November 10, 2019. This is a small restaurant - so reservations are a must. It gets crowded since it is very popular - unfortunately a crowded, small space does get a bit noisy - making conversation a bit of a challenge. Dress ranges from smart casual to just casual. Service was excellent - prompt without being overbearing. Food was a mixed bag. My wife had the she-crab soup which we both felt was just OK. For her entree she had the goat and pasta. She felt it was under flavored and was short on goat. I started with the fried green tomatoes - which we both thought were outstanding. Frankly, the best we had ever tried. I had the duck breast as an entree - and it was perfect. Medium rare, succulent, and tender. It could not have been prepared or presented any better! We will go back at least once more to see if my wife finds something on the menu that is as good as the meal I enjoyed.

Great Southern Classics Found the place out of nowhere and was looking for authentic Southern food in midtown. Went with my son. We both loved our meal. Every plate is extraordinarily flavored! Moderately priced too.

This house converted restaurant has its charm being an older house with tight seating. Food is indeed very southern and fried green tomatoes have to be on the menu. You have to try or like southern cooking to come here. It is cozy and tight but the services adequate. Make sure you have reservation to come here.

Great location and restaurant ambiance but I found the menu to be limited and Creole light. The crafted cocktails were ;)

Visiting friends in GA for the first time. would recommend. had the fied green tomatoes and the fried chicken

I dined in with a friend on a Tuesday night. Full house - so glad we had reservations. We ordered the Faro salad, the lump crabcake, the fried chicken and the banana creme brulee. Everything was amazing except the pear faro salad - didn't love the pears. The corn bread they serve is so yummy and I don't usually like corn bread. Our server was a bit of a disappointment - he never refilled my water, didn't ask in between if we needed anything and just came to the table once maybe twice at best. He also needed to be asked for a dessert menu vs offering one/bringing it himself. I would have given fewer stars but the food was just so good!

Wonderful service, the brunch was delicious. We ordered the she crab soup and XL biscuit sandwich and they were both good. My only complaint is I needed more crab in my soup.

All of the food was great, but the fried chicken and corn bread were the highlights. Fried green tomatoes and shrimp were good appetizers and the service was excellent. Pork chops were tasty, but I would stick to the chicken when I go back.

Went for brunch and had some of the best food, ever. Fried chicken, short rib benedict, corn bread, biscuits taken out just in time to be warm, fluffy and delicious, as well as great service makes this a major win. Our server was great, too-personable, friendly, and made great recommendations. The chef even came out at one point to talk to a member of our party about modification options! We went to a wedding later that day...and this was the catering food! Mac and Cheese was AMAZING. It was the perfect feast food, and we feasted! Again! Highly suggest checking them out!! Get the mac and cheese at brunch if you can.... :)

From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is warm, lively, and full of Southern charm. We were greeted by the host/manager who opened the door for us to enter which we really appreciated as it was raining and we were juggling umbrellas. The food was absolutely outstanding. The fried green tomatoes were hands-down the best I’ve ever had — perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside with a touch of goat cheese. We were excited to try their famous fried chicken. We were not disappointed! The fried chicken was golden, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. The she-crab soup was rich and creamy - perfect for a rainy day. Lastly, the key lime pie was the best we've ever had -- not too limey. The cocktails deserve their own mention — beautifully crafted, balanced, and full of flavor. You can tell the bartenders take real pride in what they do. Between the food, the drinks, and the atmosphere, this restaurant delivers a true taste of Southern hospitality done right!

South City Management, I am writing to formally express my disappointment regarding my recent experience at your restaurant during my visit to Atlanta for the IPPE event. Because your establishment came highly recommended, I made a reservation two weeks in advance and specifically requested an indoor table. My party and I arrived approximately five minutes before our reservation time and checked in with the hostess, who confirmed our arrival and indicated our table would be ready shortly. However, after waiting approximately 45 minutes, we noticed that multiple parties who arrived after us were seated before us. Concerned, I returned to the hostess stand to inquire about the delay. At that point, another hostess — who was noticeably dismissive and discourteous in her tone — informed me that we had not been properly checked into the queue and that we would need to continue waiting. No apology or ownership of the error was offered. A few minutes later, we were told our table was ready, but we were then seated at what appeared to be one of the least desirable tables in the restaurant, despite our advance reservation and extended wait. When I asked our server if I could speak with the manager about the situation, I was informed that the individual who had spoken to me rudely was, in fact, the manager. What was most troubling was not just the delay, but the overall manner in which we were treated compared to other guests. Observing that later-arriving patrons were welcomed and seated promptly, while we were overlooked and then treated with visible impatience and disrespect, left us feeling singled out and unwelcome. Whether intentional or not, the experience gave the impression of differential treatment, which is deeply concerning and disappointing — especially in a diverse, international city like Atlanta. I want to be clear that I am not someone who complains lightly. I understand that restaurants can be busy and that mistakes happen. However, professionalism, courtesy, and equitable treatment of guests should never be compromised. Unfortunately, our experience reflected the opposite. Because of this incident, I do not feel comfortable returning, and I cannot in good conscience recommend your restaurant to colleagues or friends traveling to Atlanta. I hope you will take this feedback seriously and review both your reservation management procedures and front-of-house customer service standards to ensure that other guests do not have a similar experience.

Showed up on a Monday night around 645 without reservations. The place was packed and we were told 20 minutes to wait. No problem. Over an hour later we finally got a table. Then the waiter showed up and literally acted stunned that we weren't the people that were sitting there previously. What? Ordered drinks and our meals which arrived in 15 minutes or so. The goat was well prepared and flavorful. The fried chicken was moist, but so salty you couldn't even taste the mashed potatoes. The collards greens were good and helped balance out the chicken some. In the end the wait and really average signature dish makes me wonder what we missed for this place to be so highly rated. Quite a shame for what seemed so well established.

I was passing through Atlanta and wanted an authentic Southern culinary experience. According to numerous foodie websites, South City is one of the best options in Atlanta for just such a thing. And after eating there, it most certainly did not disappoint. The biscuits are pretty tasty, although they arrive cold which isn’t my preference. The fried chicken was among the top 10 I’ve ever eaten, extra crispy and relatively juicy inside. But the waffles were stunningly good, probably the best I’ve had outside of Belgium and France! They literally make the perfect waffle! Its texture is tender yet firm, softly dissolving into flavorful goodness as you eat them. The flavor isn’t bland - as most pancakes and waffles are - with a subtle essence of vanilla extract creating this absolute perfection! The fresh syrup that accompanies the dish is exquisite. My server was even kind enough to find some powdered sugar for me in the kitchen! Downtown parking is tricky in any big city, but a lot across the street offers affordable one-hour parking and had plenty of free spots when I visited in the middle of the day. I’d highly recommend South City Midtown for a classic Southern meal!

This place was packed on a Wednesday night, so that was a good indication the food was going to be good and it did not disappoint. Had the braised short rib, which was very good. The fried chicken looked amazing. I was with a group of 7 or 8 and we all enjoyed our meal.

When we arrived we were sat a tiny table with barely any walk room as the tables were super close together. It was so loud in there you could barely hear yourself think of what you might want to order. When our plates were brought to us it was as if it was thrown together. I got the chicken with greens and mashed potatoes and my plate was drenched with the greens juice. They just scoped and threw it on the plate without even trying to drain it. I asked my waitress why was my plate so soupy and she said that’s the honey sauce when clearly it wasn’t. In turn my food was super soggy and same with my husbands. I even pointed out to her all the other tables with the same meal who's weren’t drowned in green juice or looking like a plate of soup. She disregarded my concern and walked away. I also had fried green tomatoes which were very good hence why they got a 3 instead of a 1.

This was my 2nd time visiting South City Kitchen Midtown. My 1st experience was about 10 years ago. I work as a Front Office Supervisor at The AC Hotel by Marriott around the corner from this location. I make it a point to send ALL my guests there. All I can say is this, the Pan Fried Chicken Livers are the best that I have ever had! I ordered the Shrimp and Grits also, but those chicken livers were amazing. Will definitely be returning for those livers!!

I've been going to South City Kitchen for more than 15 years but never tried the Chicken and Waffles. The Springer Mountain fried chicken is always fabulous especially with the collard greens. Pairing this same fried chicken with the Belgium Waffle is out of this world! Hands down the best Belgium Waffle I've had on 5 continents! Just melts in your mouth with the Vermont Maple Syrup. No butter needed! Your waist line will hate it but your mouth and stomach will love it.

Was very disappointed at the staff here, namely, our server. The server acted like a cheesy used car salesmen and kept pushing a bottle of wine on us when all we ordered/ wanted was a glass of wine each. After his poor attempt of trying to upcharge relentlessly, I might add, I had to actually explain to him like he was a 5 year old that I had a 30 min drive home and that ONE GLASS IS ALL THAT IS LEGALLY ALLOWED BY LAW! Sadly, he didnt care! The appetizer came out burnt. Ambiance of place was nice. Poor customer service. Will return at much later date, perhaps.

Have the manager get in touch with me. I drove from conyers and they didn’t include my she crab. Quite angry. Wasted my entire morning on sub par Shrimp and Grits. About to call my bank. And I tipped them $10!!!! My order was almost $50. How would you feel.

We had a fantastic brunch there after seeing the aquarium. Parking was easy and the food delicious. We especially want to spotlight our server Dorian. She was so nice and made our seven year old daughter feel like a princess. It was some of the best service we have ever received. Every dish Dorian recommended was phenomenal. The chicken and waffles was the best! The chicken was so tender and juicy which some very flavorful skin while the waffle was delicate and made a great pairing. It did not even need syrup honestly. We also ate she crab soup which was very very tasty.

Make sure to make reservations. Greeting was good and easy. Order to table was fairly quick with busy dining. Food temp was hot. Pricey, but good tasting and good portions. Went for Sunday brunch and all went well. Will revisit.

Nice entrees with hearty portions - we had plenty to take home. Fried green tomato appetizer was good and the addition of goats cheese was nice. Kids menu has 2 options: chicken or grilled cheese with potato choice. Overall a nice atmosphere, friendly staff and comfortable surroundings.

Wow. The food was amazing - the biscuits some of the best I have ever had. The fried chicken was absolutely delicious. Really wonderful. I didn’t give it a 5 because 1) whilst most of the staff were super friendly and helpful, ours was a bit sour and not overly polite 2) it’s very noisy and you can’t hear the people at your table. Food is fabulous - all credit to chefs

Wonderful dinner, friendly place, very fun, obviously the "in" place to go. On the down side it was rather noisy and parking was difficult.

From the moment we were greeted at the door by a young woman named Patrice, we were made to feel most welcome. The atmosphere is bustling and a bit loud, but comfortable. The food itself is magnificent, starting with a basket of warm cornbread brought to the table. My wife and I shared the pork belly appetizer—it was as good as I’ve ever had, and perfect for sharing. I had the beef cheeks, my wife had the trout. Both dishes were beautifully presented, perfectly prepared, and loaded with great southern flavors. Portions were generous so there was no room for dessert. Our server—Pablo—was friendly, attentive, efficient, and helpful. Nearly a perfect evening! I can’t imagine visiting Atlanta and not returning to this wonderful restaurant.

We were originally booked for a table but upon arrival we decided to just do a take out because the restaurant was full and we were still uncomfortable sitting in the same room with that many people during this pandemic. The staff understood and asked us if we wanted to rescheduled. We didn't but we ordered from the lunch menu, the shrimp & Marsh Hen Mill Grits and Springer Mountain Fried Chicken, also a side of hand cut french fries. All came up to perfection. We loved every bite of it. Thank you so very much for accommodating us. Your staff are excellent, your food is even better!!!! We will come back again, whether to do another take out or to dine there when we feel the pandemic is behind us.

Enjoyed the food, had to wait 1 hour and 15 minutes for dinner but was worth it plus we were a party of 6. The absolute best thing was the corn muffins. We could have eaten a dozen. Unfortunately we asked for another basket to eat with our dinner but never got it. We had the fried chicken and the trout both were excellent. The chicken was crispy on the outside but very juicy inside. The collards were okay but I’m a country girl so I’m very particular about my collards. I definitely recommend a stop here but make reservations if you can. It is in walking distance of a few hotels. We were at the Hampton Inn and Suites-Midtown and it was a short walk which was needed after that meal.

Thankfully I made reservations and this place was packed for dinner on a Monday night. Great service and everybody's meals were fantastic along with the starters. For sure get the Wagyu beef checks, spectacular! Nice wine list.

Very richly flavoured delicious Southern food, friendly service in a buzzing ambience. I had the delicious crab cream as a starter and the wonderfully tender shortrib as a main course. Both are recommended.

I was with my wife who was in Atlanta for the weekend on business. She was co-hosting a large group and we dined here on a Friday evening. There were about 40 of us in our group and we were seated in the upstairs room and assigned a staff of at least five or six. Usually serving a group that large turns out to be a disaster but this was NOT the case here. Our waitress was on it! Everyone at our table (ten of us) were attended to, and all of our appetizers and food was brought out in perfect timing. It was apparent the kitchen was "on it" also and serving large groups at the same time was something they have done before. Granted being a large group we were selecting from a "prix fixe" menu but there were several great choices in each category. The food was absolutely delicious. The term "elegant southern style" cooking would apply.

The South City Kitchen Midtown restaurant was a great lunch selection for lunch. The central location, varied venue, menu, food, and service were excellent.

Service was spectacular.. Mario was very attentive and the owner came up to check on us as well... pork chops and fried green tomatoes were our favorites...

It has been a few years since my last time dining at South City Kitchen, but this is a place that has not let itself slip in standards. The food is still outstanding and the service is attentive. Our table of 7 tried a variety of dishes and everyone loved their choices. The cauliflower appetizer was a standout for me. Our server was knowledgeable about all of the food options as well as the wine pairings. Water glasses were refilled without having to be asked. Definitely worth it!

This place was great for the atmosphere and dishes that it offers its customers. The staff were great no complaints on the service. The waitress was very knowledgeable with the dishes and suggestions as well as recommendations. Waiting time for the food was not an issue as well. Not to mention that when we arrived it was fairly busy. Everyone at my table did not have a complaint which means that everything was very good. There was ample parking in the back as well as surrounding parking lots. If you want a nice spot for family, friends or even something intimate then this is the place. The menu has a fairly good range in terms of cost. Expect mid-range to upper-end for cost of the meals.

This is an upscale yet casual restaurant in Midtown. Everything was terrific: Food, drinks, service and setting, although it can get noisy. Make sure to try the fried green tomatoes.

Great restaurant, incredible Fried Chicken, Fried Green Tomatoes, Pimento Cheese and Bread, Crab Soup and drinks. You cannot go wrong with this place. The amazing food was only outdone by the excellent service.

I wrote a review of excellent (5) in April 2013. My son and his wife had eaten here as well and specifically asked to go back. What a disappointment. The service is still professional and very helpful with food choices. The food was well below average for very high prices. Pork was tough and not flavorful. Overall poor. The other 3 at our table rated their meals good, not great, and poor. Ambient noise is very high which makes conversation difficult. The price for the 4 of us was $170 with tip which is high for what we got (no desserts, no wine, and limited drinks). This restaurant is rated in the top 1%. Not sure why. It was not our experience. There are lots of choices in this immediate area. If this review is helpful then please indicate so below.

Several people said their midtown restaurant was one of their favorites in town so I booked a brunch there. It’s a bright attractive enough location but the look is nothing special. I like that I could substitute the potatoes for a range of side dishes including bacon and sausage. But then they forgot the collard greens and gave me potatoes anyway. Either way, it was a lot of food. The wait staff were friendly and they did seem to be taking safety precautions. But many patrons in the full restaurant did not. They added a 20% service charge for sanitizer and for the extra safety precautions, and that did not include gratuity.

Awesome place. Ate at the bar. AJ was wonderful! Food was good especially the fired chicken and collard greens. The place was packed with a steady flow of people. Very popular for a reason. Highly recommend.

Was with a larger group so was able to sample a number of appetizers. Fried green tomatoes were too heavily breaded (as was the entrée fried ckicken) but the shrimp appetizer was good. Others had the shrimp and grits entree but no one thought it was excellent. Service was good but it is a crowded and noisy place.

We were visiting Atlanta from Seattle during COVID to drop our daughter off at Emory U. In 2019 when we were visiting schools we stayed in MidTown and happened upon SouthCityKitchen for dinner. It was wonderful and nice representation of local food for us northerners (I'm the southern boy in the family). Liked it so much we tried breakfast and it also was good. So we had to come back for dinner in 2020.

This was my first visit to South City Kitchen. Miss Dee took great care of me at the bar. She made a nice spicy, bloody mary and the King Biscuit ( biscuit, scallion gravy, fried egg, melted gouda and ham) was off the chart!!!

Very flavorful, authentic southern cuisine. The menu is fairly eclectic, but varied. They have a solid wine list. A good option for midtown Atlanta.

We frequent the location in Buckhead and love it. We stopped in late one evening on the way home from the airport. The service was very good but the food was not what we expected. Just a little overcooked but compared to other restaurants still above average. We will definitely go back

My wife and I could not have enjoyed this more. We shared the chicken & waffle and “that” sandwich. Both excellent and great to share. Also biscuits and cornbread muffins with butter and peach jam made this a perfect lunch out.

The biscuits and cornbread that come out before your meal were delicious. Other food was okay. Service was good.

This is an amazing brunch and a super cool atmosphere; if you’re a brunch lover then this will become a favorite.

On a Tuesday evening the place appeared to be quite full of business colleagues, perhaps staying in nearby hotels. We made reservations, thankfully, and the food and service met our exceeded expectations. It was very noisy, though, the biggest disappointment. Would likely be fine off peak or on a weekend. I'll definitely try it again and ask for a table in a quieter spot.

Best fried chicken 🍗in Atlanta. Great service. My daughter's birthday is this Friday and they brought out a dessert. Make sure to reserve in advance or you're in for a long wait. There's plenty of parking.

We were in Atlanta for business and stopped by South City Kitchen for a late lunch. They were close to closing but nice enough to squeeze us in. Delicious food and friendly service.

Great service, excellent cuisine, non-description location which added to its authenticity and charm. When busy, a little loud.

Twenty two of us descend upon the South City Kitchen on a Wednesday night The atmosphere was energized, our server Andrew was outstanding with efficient delivery of food. The pork belly, fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, crab cakes, pork chops and trout were all delicious, bThe banana toffee parfait was ok. Would definitely go back next time in Atlanta.

With so many places to eat in Atlanta I really think you can do better. And the water tried to extract an extra cash tip on top of the 20% gratuity already on the bill! Ok its been hard on restaurants and staff and we regularly tip well because of that. But if you want an extra tip then do an extra great job at service.

Another restaurant bar, which I'm thinking is almost impossible to A avoid in mid-town Atlanta. SCK was a very different experience from my previous review. The interpersonal/ service experiences were all excellent, and all the foods choices were extremely well executed; from the corn bread muffins with apple butter to the king biscuit with gravy. SCK might not be a first choice for me personally, but only because of having a limited number of menu items that appeal to my food preferences. Despite my personal food preferences, we thoroughly enjoyed everything about our dining experience at SKC. I'd highly recommend if the menu appeals to you.

I've been coming to SCK for over 20 years. In that time the restaurant has changed considerably but the quality of the food remains the same, top notch. This is southern cuisine through and through. Fried chicken, pork chops, grits, collards; all cooked to perfection. All brought together by excellent service. Well done and thank you.

We went with friends and tried to eat as much on the menu as possible! We started with the fried green tomatoes and cornmeal bread, the pear salad next and then for mains the fried chicken, steak, beef cheeks and shrimp and grits. Everything was incredible and really well done southern food! Roy our server was fantastic and let us take our time. He gave us great suggestions and helped us customize the menu to get exactly what we wanted. Overall an amazing dinner!

I love this place. Took friends in from out of town for game. Service was excellent as always. Love the menu options. Highly recommend the chicken and waffle.

If your looking for a great bowl of Shrimp & Grits on a cold rainy day or a sunny day you will not be disappointed at South City Kitchen- Best I have had- Comes with homemade Biscuits & Cornbread- Sweet tea to drink - Makes my mouth water just thinking about it- The help is ready to serve you with a smile- Go by and see them today- Your tummy will thank you!!!

I had a lovely lunch at South City Kitchen. It was early, so I was one of only a few people in the restaurant. The service was excellent, and I had the fried chicken, which I loved.

Best fried chicken of my life....so crispy juicy tender that I did not even need a knife to cut it. Waitstaff was great, friendly service all around. Prime example of how to run a business during covid...well spaced tables, staff in masks, sanitizing stations throughout, clear dividers for patrons at the bar. A 20% service charge is added to the bill as a catch-all for gratuity and additional sanitizing measures. You do not need to leave an additional tip on top of it. However an additional tip was well deserved on our visit and we left the additional tip as cash, that way it goes directly to your individual server.

I can’t believe we never been here before! Such an amazing place & we just come today! Everything was great but the biscuits & corn bread it’s super yummy

I had the best shrimp and grits dish I've ever had and I've had a few! My husband said the crab cake was the best he ever had and we've had Baltimore's crab cakes! The atomosphere was fun and southern. The prices were really up there. $24.00 for one crab cake but still pretty amazingly good. Be aware that the restrooms are upstairs and that was the worse thing. I would recommend this restaurant but bring plenty of money!

Words are not going to be inadequate for this review. We are on the last leg of our youngest daughter’s college road trip. South City Kitchen Midtown was the perfect welcome to SCAD Atlanta. South City Kitchen is fine southern dining in a cozy, classy, casual and comfortable dining house; a mix I am not I have encountered anywhere else before. The food is delightfully southern with a culinary flare. Our table had pork chops, fried chicken, and boar for entrees. The sides, biscuits, cornbread, banana pudding, and Mississippi Mudpie were all delicious accompaniments. Hospitality is not lacking. While on our way from Savannah we got stuck in traffic and needed to move our reservation up. We called and Michael graciously assured us he would save us a table and we were welcome to come just as we were (upon return we would ideally dress business/weekend casual). This review would be incomplete without publicly praising our waitress, Dorian. She was welcoming, genuine, and knowledgeable with the sweetest spirit and disposition. We were extremely blessed by South City Kitchen and hope to return. From Charleston to Savannah to Atlanta this was our favorite meal hands down. (PS Menu will be changing tomorrow for spring.)

Stopped by late on a Thursday night. Greeted by a friendly host and sat at the bar. We were warmly greeted and advised on dinner choices. We ordered the fried green tomatoes and fried chicken...superb! Good choice of local beers and decent liquor and wine choices. Highly recommended you stop in for dinner.

I enjoy South city kitchen and have been there on several occasions. The food is good and the service personnel are friendly and informative. This is a good place for walkins. I have tried on several occasions to call ahead to reserve a table and have never been able to get anyone to answer the phone.

Great dinner on business trip. We had the spoon bread appetizer with brisket which was delicious. I had the trout entree which was wonderful. Colleagues had shrimp and grits which they loved a d side of collard greens which were flavorful and tender/well cooked. The sweet tea wasn’t sweet enough for my taste but that was just me. Overall a lovely and delicious dinner.

Two years ago the concierge at the Four Seasons which is around the corner recommended this restaurant. And now we came back for a second visit. It is worth the trip. Sit at the bar and let AJ and Tierney make your evening very special!!! What a joy to be in their company and eat this wonderful southern cuisine. It is even better than we remembered. They shared their recommendations and made this a “best meal” of many years. The fried green tomatoes, the crab cakes and the chicken livers were so very delicious. Perfectly prepared and to just feel the joyful vibe of this restaurant. I hope I get back here soon again. Thank you to AJ and Tierney for sharing your hospitality! Fives ⭐️’s.

Had a fantastic dining experience this evening. Appetizers were excellent and fried chicken and pork chop main dishes were so, so good! Banana pudding and devils food cake delicious. Andy, our waiter, was so attentive and we appreciated the great service. I highly recommend this restaurant if you’re in the Midtown area.

I visited South City Kitchen for the first time after a show at the Atlanta Symphony. It was within walking distance so it was perfect after a show. We did get a reservation, it might have been a bit of a wait on a Saturday evening if we hadn't. The staff was very friendly, especially our server. The menu has a good mix of shareables and entrees. The emphasis is on southern-style cooking, but with some different interpretations. Ultimately we were very happy with the food. The banana pudding was also quite good.

My family and I visited for brunch, and the food looked beautiful. The she crab soup was tasty, and the biscuits are the textbook version of what a southern biscuit should be. The service was rather slow because it does get crowded on a Sunday, but our server Manny was pleasant and accommodating. I’d probably visit again when there is less of a crowd. I recommend going if your looking for a good bite to eat.

Chicken is banging, hot sauce had some spice but didn't kill us, french fries decent, liver cooked superbly, shrimp and grits were perfect... someone else in our party had the (Atlantic) salmon and said it was cooked very well and was yummy. We loved the pickles so much I asked for the pickling recipe! All around great service, friendly staff, nice n clean, everyone was hard working and seemed to take pride in their work, great seating area, lovely plating, delicious food, biiiig portions, yummy drinks, and fun desserts! Will come here EVERY time I am in ATL!

We have been coming to South City Kitchen Midtown for years. First, as a dating couple, then married, and now with the kiddos for brunch (although we try to sneak away every now and then for a "date" night). The food is ALWAYS amazing (the fried chicken is one of my favorites) and the cocktails are perfection. Brunch is also delicious. Do yourself a favor and go! Staff are great and very knowledgeable.

Absolutely delicious southern style food. We loved every item we tried and look forward to trying the rest! Fried chicken, mashed red potatoes, collared greens, fried green tomatoes, brisket sandwich, hot Nashville chicken sandwich, she crab soup, even the fries were amazing! Conveniently located just off 75 if you are road-tripping like us —a perfect stop.

Everything we ate was delicious! Starting with the fried green tomatoes and ending with the peanut butter pie. My shrimp and grits were absolutely perfect and my husbands beef fell apart with his fork, no need for a knife. We will definitely be back the next time we are in the area!

My husband and I were in Atlanta for 3 nights... 2 of the nights we ate here because it was SOOOOO good. So if you are looking for southern cuisine with a little twist- then this place is for you! Their cocktails are made perfectly. I had their Tyme Lemonade which was the perfect balance of alcohol and sweetness. His old fashion was made perfect! The fried green tomatoes with goat cheese are delightful! While you’re there if you get the opportunity to try their braised short rib and/or fried chicken dinner- neither of these meals will let you down!!! I also want to make sure I mention the collard greens! Hands down best I have ever had. All staff were friendly and they were even able to get us in last minute on our second night visiting. If we ever come back to Atlanta this will be one of our “must go to”!!!!!

My daughter, wife, and I enjoyed our Thanksgiving dinner at the Midtown location of South City Kitchen. The restaurant was busy, but we were seated quickly and received very good service. We started with a bottle of Eroica Reisling, which was a very good off-dry wine. For our appetizers, my daughter had the crab cake, my wife had the salad and I had the crab with sherry soup. I thought the soup was good, but perhaps just a little too sweet, For our mains, my daughter had the vegetable platter, my wife had the pork chop, and I went the traditional route, turkey. My wife's pork chop was very large, and she said it was very good. My turkey was thickly sliced, and served with stuffing, which I enjoyed, along with some slightly lumpy mashed potatoes. There was also a little bit of kale or spinach, which I was not that crazy about. For our desserts, we all had the apple cobbler dessert, which was definitely enjoyed. We were able to enjoy a leisurely meal of very well prepared food. The only downside is that the price was pretty high. After adding tax and tip, our dinner ran over $350. Prices for non-holiday meals are more reasonable.

Excellent service, drinks and food. The peach salad was a delicious way to start our dinner. We all chose the Carolina trout and it was delicious. The crispy skin was one of the best parts. Will definitely be back.

We recently dined here for dinner. We have been to other locations and the menu varies. The food was over priced and nothing was special about the cocktails. The service was great. Our waitress was very accommodating, knowledgeable, and friendly. I recommend trying another location.

We selected this restaurant because of good reviews, but had a mediocre experience. We were seated near a staff exit to the outdoor patio seating so had alot of in and out traffic, along with a blast of hot air every time the door opened or closed. The menu was interesting, but among the dishes we selected were many heavily pickled accompaniments or ingredients which in our minds detracted from the other flavors. I had a pork cheek appetizer, with a heavily pickled slaw which made the underlying sweet potato almost unrecognizable. (The pork cheeks were excellent.) My husband's dish had the same characteristics. The she-crab soup was excellent. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, so was disappointed that the experience was not as appealing as we hoped.

We had. Business dinner with our team of 20 people. We had family style appetizers, fried green tomatoes, she crab soup and pimento cheese. All excellent! I had the trout with spiral zucchini and Brussels with garlic whit was delicious. Service was excellent and prices reasonable. Atmosphere relaxed and not too loud. Would go back!

I absolutely loved everything. The staff was so nice and the food was absolutely amazingggg also the tables were weirdly soft which I liked

We ate at the South City Kitchen on Saturday 7th. I thought the food was delicious, but more importantly was the service we received from our waiter Andy. He was very through and explained everything perfect. Nice Job Andy

My daughter said she heard good things about this place. We made reservations and were promptly seated when we arrived. However, the best part of the evening was the food. I had the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer and highly recommend it. It had a twist with the feta cheese, and it was a great start. Next I had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and collared greens which they are locally known for. I don’t usually eat fried chicken anymore, but next time I go to Atlanta I will head back for more. It was everything you ever thought fried chicken should be and more. Crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. Did I mention the biscuits and cornbread? Divine. It sounds crazy for a fried dish but it was not heavy and did not leave me feeling that way. Unfortunately we did not have room for desert, but I am willing to bet I should have. Even out waiter Anthony was well informed, pleasant and professional. I will definitely come back when I am in town.

Excellent wait staff, delicious food and refreshing beverages in a quaint older home. It was the first time we’d ever had Fried Green Tomatoes and we’ve already booked another reservation for the next time we are in Atlanta. We want the rest of our family to try them! Loved this place.

Off 14th Street NE in Midtown Atlanta this delightful restaurant was a hidden gem with a home cooking menu! We had the Springer Mountain Farms Fried Chicken collard greens, red bliss potatoes, honey-thyme jus mgf, YUMMY! Check out the menu! Loved sitting in the porch! We walked in, but a reservation is a good idea!

Wonderful menu, service and ambience. Our server, Rachel, was terrific. Shrimp and grits were out of this world! The vibe of the place was great, too.

Wonderful service and food! Anthony, our server, was friendly, kind and very helpful with selections for drinks and food. Loved every bite, and will definitely visit again!

Excellent food in a relaxed atmosphere. I had the fried chicken which was exceptional! Served on a bed of whipped potatoes and collard greens. The she-crab soup and rolls were perfect.

Attended a wedding rehearsal dinner here, and boy, was it good! Shared appetizers included fried green tomatoes, pulled pork, and pimento cheese. I could have made a meal out of those, but then my trout with pattypan entree came — some of the best thought I’ve ever had. Would definitely come back here on my own.

We had a wonderful dinner here during our visit to Atlanta. The food was delicious and featured authentic southern food. The Creole shrimp was quite spicy, but yummy. The service was very friendly and courteous, even though the restaurant was really busy.

Took local family members to dinner and they loved it. I ordered the trout, which was poor, but the biscuits and pimento cheese were to die for. They had fried chicken and steaks - very pleased with their food, and the cocktails. I'd go back happily, the service was great, and order something else.

This restaurant exceeded our expectations! Everything on the menu looked delicious and the waitress was very knowledgeable of each menu item! We started with the fried green tomatoes and loved how the goat cheese was stuffed in between the breading and tomato! The fried chicken and mashed potatoes were delicious! So glad we tried out this restaurant on our visit to Buckhead!

Really nice place. All the staff were very kind. They told us before we go in that there is a 20% service charge and that they only accept credit cards, so no surprises there. The food is awesome and they have some vegetarian options which is great. As tourist visiting US and Atlanta we must say that we felt very welcomed in this place. Thank you! We will definitely come back some day.

We ate here for our anniversary dinner. South City met and exceeded our expectations. We had the she-crab soup, fried green tomatoes, and pork chop. Everything was well seasoned and flavorful. Andrew was our waiter who provided attentive service without being intrusive. We plan to go again.

We had such an amazing dinner with such amazing service! Pablo was our server. He was so funny and attentive. Definitely a do over!

My wife and I are thorough travelers, from the time we leave to the time we arrive at our destination. Even to the point of choosing where we will stop along the way. Like lunch at South City Kitchen Midtown in Atlanta, Georgia, on our way home to Chicago. Located at 1144 Crescent Avenue Northeast, off I-75/85, it has been awarded "Best Lunch in Atlanta" for its inventive takes on Southern classics. Open from 11 to 2:30 and 5 to 9:30 Monday through Thursday, 11 to 2:30 and 5 to 10 on Friday, 11 to 3 and 5 to 10 on Saturday and 10 to 3 and 5 to 9 on Sunday, it offers a dinner-like menu at lunchtime amid upscale surroundings. Service is swift and cordial, allowing two time-conscious travelers to get back on the road with smiles on their faces. We started with a Georgia favorite, pimento cheese with pickles, celery and crackers. Also BBQ shrimp with house garlic worcestershire butter and grilled bread. And a bowl of she-crab soup, another Georgia favorite. For her entree, my wife chose Springer Mountain Farms fried chicken with collard greens and mashed red bliss. Yankees call them potatoes. I gave a thumbs-up to the Carolina trout with asparagus, roasted Yukon Gold potatoes and smoked onion. For dessert, we shared portions of banana pudding and vanilla bean cheesecake. Love Southern home cooking.

I know my southern fried chicken and this was truly the BEST buttermilk fried chicken I've ever had (please don't tell my grandmother I wrote this)! Mouth-watering chicken. We were there for a birthday celebration and they made the birthday lady feel so special. The experience was amazing not only because of the chicken- our waiter was superb. He was so attentive, food came out SO fast AND we knocked over wine and water and they cleaned it up so fast our heads were spinning. Truly cannot say enough good things my only gripe is the place isn't big enough! More tables and chairs needed so more delicious chicken can be sold please!

First time here to celebrate my birthday. OMG the crab bisque was so good. The greens were okay but the chicken was good. Next time I want to try something else on the menu

We visited South City Kitchen Midtown with a group of local friends, who raved about the authentic southern style cooking, and I loved it. We shared the pimento cheese as one of the starters, along with biscuits and cornbread muffins. I finally tried fried green tomatoes for the first time. Delish! Normally, I’m a big fan of watermelon salad, although the chili oil and pickled blueberries in this version distracted from the sweetness of the watermelon. The restaurant does a vegetable plate as its vegetarian main, although it is truly just vegetables, so it was lacking in protein. That said, I was plenty full from the rest of the food so didn’t mind. I will be back to South City Kitchen next time I visit Atlanta.

Fantastic southern food. The locals recommended it. My husband and I went for dinner one night and loved it so much we went back for brunch on the weekend. The food is fantastic (fried chicken and she crab soup are a must!) portions are more than generous, good wine list and the staff are very well trained and friendly. Will be a must stop next time we are in Atlanta!

We were a party of four The fried green tomato appetizer cost $12. I asked the waiter, before ordering, how many tomato slices were included in the appetizer and would there be enough to share. The waiter said not to worry everyone at the table would get 1 slice. He didn’t tell us the $12 only included 3 slices of tomato and we were charged an additional $4 dollars for the 4th tomato slice. I ordered the crab cake for my entree. A single crab cake served on small bed of vegetables cost $22. The waiter told us the cakes were approximately 90% crab with very little filler. The crab cake was dry and heavily spiced, I couldn’t taste the crab meat. My husband and daughter enjoyed the shrimp and grits, and our guest said the goat was very good. I guess it depends on what you ordered. A waiter setting up an adjacent table hit me in the arm with a high chair and never apologized or asked if I was all right. Perhaps he didn’t realize he hit me…. Who knows. It doesn’t really matter, I would never go back again.

Went for Saturday morning brunch. Immediately greeted warmly by the hostess and seated. Server came and told us about the restaurant then took our drink orders. The bread bowl with delicious cornbread and biscuits was a welcome surprise, 3 of each for our table of two, and quite tasty. Next we got the crab rice and chicken and waffles to share. Chicken and waffles was definitely the better of the two entrees. Mango margaritas were spot on

We arrived there really looking forward to try southern food and it was not what we hoped. Finally we ordered the roast beef sandwich and the pull pork sandwich and we’re ok. The best : cornbread that comes when you sit. Very nice service . I wouldn’t go back.

If you're looking for good Southern food at reasonable prices, be sure to check out South City Kitchen. The appetizers are generously sized, good for sharing, and the meals are large enough to share as well. The house special cocktails are interesting, and there is a good wine list. I liked the restaurant so much that I went twice with two different business groups while I was in Atlanta for a conference. The downstairs dining room can feel crowded and be loud when there are several large parties, so try to sit on the patio. The service is still excellent, no matter how many diners are in the restaurant. If you're in Atlanta for any reason, plan a visit to South City Kitchen.

The brunch menu is good and not unreasonably priced for Atlanta-about $20-25 a person with coffee, no alcohol. Service was prompt and pleasant. The hostess seemed to be a bit abrupt, even outwardly hostile to some. One party even left in an whirlwind of curse words.

Good brunch menu. There’s a little something for everyone. The chicken and waffle was good, but a bit overpriced at $25. The pimiento cheese appetizer was tasty and the fried green tomatoes presentation was lovely. Good biscuits and muffins with a mimosa rounded out the meal. Definitely make reservations if you can. Very busy and noise level was high on a Saturday, but we enjoyed the meal.

The hostess pulled the "you'll have to wait for your table" thing and sent us outside into the heat and humidity. We could see multiple empty tables for 2. 5 minutes later she could seat us-wonders of wonders. The person seating us apologized for making us wait. The server was very friendly and helpful, but was all alone upstairs. We got fried chicken and flounder. Both were fine. The best was an order of spoonbread! Nice breads, also. The food is ok and we would have enjoyed it much more if we could have talked to each other, but it was SO loud that I couldn't hear my husband throughout the meal. We will not be back.

The menu is incredibly good, but the best thing is the service. I felt at home. The expreso coffee was incredibly good but the farmers daughter’s smoothie was to dream about.

The hostess turned me off initially, she was just rude for no real reason. I was looking for another restaurant in walking distance when our server rescued the mood. I apologize, I don't remember his name but he has long longs and was very knowledgeable about the history of both the menu and the area. He told us "EVERYTHING" was recommended....and I now understand why - O M ,G I had a simple breakfast and it blew my socks completely off. Loved the option to get chicken sausage. My friends had shrimp and grits while the other their pecan and chocolate sprinkled waffles with battered chicken. They both moaned throughout their chews. LOL. I will definitely be back to try the dinner menu and hopefully get a little patio seating. Price, location, hospitality and quality of food 5+ stars!

Wow! What a great dinner! We were lucky enough to get a table at the Midtown location after trying their Buckhead location that had a 2 hour wait. Andrew, our server, helped us with recommendations that led to a fabulous and filling meal. He was extremely personable and attentive. The food was prepared perfectly. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The pacing of the meal allowed us to relax and enjoy the entire experience. We would definitely return here next time we're in Atlanta.
Southern Fried Chicken!
Going to Atlanta means I need to have some good southern cookin’! I was not disappointed with this super delicious dish. The chicken was crispy while being nice and juicy. One thing different is that the flavour is super savoury with lots of spices. The collared greens were delicious and loved the mash that went with it. … and complimentary corn bread?!? Yes, please!
