Nice atmosphere, great Italian style restaurant.

By Thelmadee |

Generous serving sizes. The linguini I ordered was a very heavy pasta and the white sauce was more like a broth but everyone else in my party enjoyed their selections so much that I gave this place the highest rating. I compared my clam linguini at Spasso to others I've ordered in different restaurants and theirs fell short. So my advice is to order anything but the clam linguini if you dine at Spasso.

Delicious food!

By Andrey S |

Great staff, very good vibe in the evenings. And delicious food. Gorgonzola salad was very good. And Saturday specialty - papardele with seafood was really great!

arrevedercci!

By Mary S |

In old section...Easy walk from Penns View Hotel. They were very accommodating to our senior citizens group of 15 giving us a separate room and separate checks. Food was excellent but wish I had shared the grilled shrimp entree...very generous portions. In fact, Every portion was generous.Loved the goat cheese & walnut salad which I did share with a friend. We had very good service ...we were all so happy to celebrate our last night in Philly there. Great for a group or romantic dinner for two.i highly recommend.

very disappointing

By roenuzzo |

my daughters and I made a reservation for mothers day for an outdoor table. we made it a month ago and my daughter called friday to verify that we would get an outdoor table. when we got there, they said they were not doing outdoor dining and offered us an indoor table. we are not yet dining indoors, so we left. we found a nice french restaurant a block away with outdoor tables and we ate there. so it ended up fine but no thanks to spassos.

OMG

By JGeigel |

Stopped in for dinner after a long, hot day of walking. Hostess didn't care that we were hot and sweaty and in very casual clothes. It was early enough that we didn't need reservations. Space is cool and inviting. Service is attentive, wine list extensive.I had the crabmeat ravioli, and spouse had the chicken rollatini rosmarino. Both were delicious! Felt like we were in Italy. Highly recommend.

Absolutely delicious!

By Holly J |

Dined with our five teens and two adults. It was July 4 so we made reservations. We didn’t wait to be seated at all, our waitress was fantastic and so was the food!! So nice inside! We loved the bread and the pepper/eggplant mix they serve with it.

Thought we were in Rome

By gpizzy |

Selected this restaurant based on reviews and walking distance f rom the Penn's Landing Hilton. Made a reservation and were seated promptly upon arrival. Nice, fun, charming old Philadelphia ambiance. The service was excellent and our server "Dah Best" (She was out of central casting) a sister of Sophia Loren on the wall in front of our table. We chose to eat light.. the food well prepared and tasty. The service was efficient with our server well trained and knowledgeable. The menu interesting and the prices fair. All in all, we would return often when in the city.

A wonderful Italian restaurant in Old City

By Craig M |

First visit here, made reservations earlier in the day, was seated promptly, waitress was very good, helped us in choosing antipasti plate for the table, entrees were visually appealing food was outstanding. Dessert sampler was wonderful coffee was a good strong cup. Definitely would go again without hesitation.

Third visit ... a third perfect visit!

By DWT |

It is quite simple really ... Great, attentive, professional and cheerful waitstaff! Perfect timing of each course! A really warm and welcome environment! An eclectic wine list! Really superb well presented and wonderfully tasty authentic Italian cuisine! My third visit ... nothing changed. Spasso was perfect again! Bravo!

Just ok food and menu, very nice service

By Jade G |

When I go out to eat I want to leave thinking “wow, I am happy I experienced that”, and I just could not get there with this restaurant. The food was just ok - not bad - but nothing to rave about. The waiter was very polite and attentive. We did have to pay $9 for a side of two Italian sausages (felt like a lot).

Lovely find

By Vasoccerchick |

We stumbled upon this restaurant that turned out to be a gem. We ordered a fish dish, a chicken dish and a pasta. All were delicious and had large portions . They brought a good sized loaf of yummy bread, unfortunately I only had one piece as my teenage son devoured most of it. Even better than the delicious food was the attentive service. It really stood out.

Really nice lunch

By bluejeanfood |

Dining at Spasso Italian Grill in Philadelphia was a very nice experience. From the moment you step inside, the cozy ambiance and the aroma of Italian cuisine greet you warmly. Seated quickly to the table, my eyes immediately gravitated towards the Chicken Rollatini Rosmarino with Prosciutto & Cheese in a Mushroom Demi-Glace lunch special. The Chicken Rollatini is a sight to behold, perfectly cooked and adorned with a rich, savory mushroom demi-glace. The aroma of rosemary wafts up, teasing your senses even further. I cut into the Chicken Rollatini, and the knife effortlessly slices through the tender chicken, revealing layers of prosciutto and cheese within. Each bite was a harmonious blend of flavors with the saltiness of the prosciutto, the creaminess of the cheese, and the earthiness of the mushroom demi-glace. This was a culinary symphony on my palate. Accompanied by a side of perfectly cooked vegetables the entire experience was positive and I would be happy to dine here again. If you have never been you should give them a try.

Consistently Mediocre

By Jon S |

This surprisingly large, multi-room restaurant is tucked away on Front St. The rooms have the bare brick look and atmosphere unremarkable although a bit tight and very noisy when crowded. It is w/i short walk of home. Service is generally competent and friendly. I have been to Spasso many times over the years (approx. 15-20) because several friends really like it a lot and my wife likes it. Despite giving it many chances, I never really like my meal. Everything (pasta, sauce, mains) is almost ok, but seems like made by someone w a Betty Crocker cookbook. It has been consistently disappointing over years.

Great Italian

By Steph S |

Had the pleasure of visiting while on a city break in Philadelphia, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and beautifully cooked Italian food. Two of us had the beef pappardelle which was delicious and another had the seafood risotto which was equally mouth watering. Would visit again if I was in the area.

So Disappointing

By bjk61 |

From the minute we walked in, the restaurant was a disappointment. It was a busy night and took the hostess over 5 minutes to greet us. Then she was not very friendly, told us our table was not ready and to wait in the bar. When we were finally seated 30 minutes after our reservation, no apology, still getting attitude from the hostess and we were put in a corner at a terrible location. After being seated, it was over 20 minutes before we finally got someone's attention and were told our waiter would be over. Still no water and our waiter finally "stopped by to tell us he was busy and would be right over". 20 minutes later he finally came over and got our drink orders. He disappeared again and after seeing him talking in the kitchen with other employees and just hanging out, then putting tables together for a large group, he finally came over to take our order. Our waiter was rude, annoyed that we had questions and made us feel like our party of 6 was bothering him as he had a bigger group. When the food finally arrived, my salmon was dry and served with cold potatoes and peppers. My daughter's eggplant parm was heavily breaded with little sauce. Wanted to ask for more sauce and another bottle of wine but waiter never came around. When we asked the hostess who was passing by, again she was annoyed, said she would send our waiter over and well no luck. At least the chocolate mouse cake was good. We understand the restaurant was busy but the rudeness of the staff and mediocre food made our special evening out with family disappointing. Won't be going back.

Mixed experience but ok

By Loki_and_Odin |

Interesting little place that has an authentic and welcoming feel to it. Food was good but seemed to all have a similar taste I could not quite identify. Portions were large and prices were reasonable. Wine by the glass seemed mediocre. Desserts were the highlight of the night.

Service matters

By teach1211 |

The good—we both enjoyed our meals. I had the crab ravioli and my husband had the linguine with clams. The disappointing—our waiter was MIA for majority of our time there. He never brought my husbands drink, never brought or offered drink refills, never checked on how the food was, we had to ask for him to bring the check and ask for him to take the payment. Another waiter saw my husband using table pepper and told him to wait and went and got the fresh pepper grinder. My husband could see the back of house from where he was sitting and our waiter was more interested in chatting with the female coworkers back there then taking care of the paying customers. The other waitstaff seemed much more attentive, wish we had been seated with them would have probably changed our experience.

Great specials.

By Venture374181 |

Good service, wine and specials. Enjoyed the food it was great and I would come back. They have Moscato for those that like a sweet white wine.

delicious food, great service

By gigigirl2016 |

this was our first time to experience this restaurant, but I can assure you it won't be our last!! everything from start to finish was delicious. the four cheese mushroom ravioli were the best I ever tasted. service was very good. did not have any dessert, but from what I could see, it looked delicious. this was truly a great find.

Wonderful

By Heather E |

Nice location with bridge view outside. Food in incredible and they have a great wine list. It's walk-in only due to covid so it might be packed at happy hour, if this is the case I encourage you to try for lunch.

A Big Disappointment

By Hallin |

After hearing and reading about Spasso on Front Street, we were curious to try this place out. We made reservations through OpenTable, however on a Sunday evening there was not a need for that. The printed menu was rather limited. They said they could make anything you ask for. I went with Chicken Parm and was hoping for a half portion but was told they could not do that. My daughter ordered Gnocchi Gorganzola. The portions were very large to begin with. I cut my chicken and linguini in half, saving half for another time. The chick parm sauce was thick and had a burnt taste to it. The chicken was rather chewy. Needless to say, it was money wasted for me. Daughter's gnocchi was extremely rich, so rich only 1/4 of it could be eaten. Again, money wasted. We debated about going for pizza or a dinner. Sadly enough, we chose this place. Not certain what other people are liking about the food but it was not a recommendation on our list.

Great Italian restaurant

By Janet |

Nice menu, delicious food and great service. Prices were reasonable also. I had the veal saltimboca...it was served with tasty roasted potatoes, sautéed zucchini and a nice gravy. We went on a Saturday night and didn't have to wait for a table.

Good food!

By micheller2022 |

We enjoyed sitting down for dinner here after touring the shops on South Street. Nice menu. Loved dessert.

wedding rehearsal dinner

By Joyce1660 |

We held a rehearsal dinner for over 60 people including children. I can't say enough good things about the whole experience. Sam, the banquet manager and all of the staff were wonderful to work with. The food was great and everyone was very happy with their meals. We were in a separate room which was set up beautifully.

Spasso on a Tues night

By Jamie D |

Excellent food and service. We started off with the Arugula and Pear Salad. I had the Zuppa Di Pesce and my husband had the Ravioli Quattro Formaggi. The drinks were really good as well. The waiter was friendly and polite. Would love to go again. It was a Tuesnight and it was full. It can be a little loud for some reason - maybe due to the acoustics from low ceiling. Not a complaint, just an observation.

Quality Dinner

By Charles S |

During our 3 night stay in Philadelphia, my wife and I dined at Spasso Italian Grill, just a short walk from our hotel. We booked as it was quite busy and enjoyed sitting in the rustic style dining room at the rear of the restaurant. We ordered a glass of wine and a large beer together with two different lasagnes which were absolutely delicious. The menu prices are quite high but the quality is to be tasted. Worth a visit.

IF CARRABBA'S IS NEARBY...

By 1Trippermonth |

We went to Spasso's Italian Grill on a weekend night because of a recommendation from a colleague. While the restaurant was packed and energetic, the food was not fitting of what looked to be good patronage. Bland seemed to be consistent for the various entrees we had and when the bill came it was almost insulting. High prices for average food made us long for the value meals one would typically get at Carrabba's. There are much better places in Philadelphia to enjoy a quality Italian meal.

I really love this restaurant

By mschorr |

I have eaten here about a dozen times and each meal is better than the last. This is simply outstanding Italian food but along with pasta and traditional favorites there is always great fish and specials. The service is always great and there is a really nice bar where you can either have a drink first or stay after dinner. Another big plus is the amount of meter parking in the area and a reasonably priced parking lot next door. Plus it's about 5 minutes from the bridge which is nice when coming from Jersey.

Dinner during Christmas break

By JMDinNJ |

My husband, two kids and i ate here for dinner while on a visit to Philly during Christmas break. The restaurant was a short walk from our hotel in Penn's Landing and was easy to find. We were seated immediately in the small front room; there are several larger rooms at the back of the restaurant. The waiter brought bread with butter and olive oli and a delicious eggplant caponata. We had appetizers of mussels and rice balls and both were good. Dinner was salmon for my son, ravioli and meatballs for my daughter which she loved, veal saltimboca for my husband and fusili lunghi for me. All delicious. Everything was very fresh and the pasta was homemade.

Italian Food At Its Finest

By Lynn T |

Our first time here...one person in our group can be particularly picky about Italian restaurants. Well, this Restaurant met all her criteria. They made a dish for her that was not on the menu (this meal is her measure of true Italian cooking) and they nailed it! I had veal parmigan with asparagus--all perfectly cooked. If you love mussels, as I do--they were perfect (not overcooked or rubbery...and I had them in a white sauce--absolutely wonderful to sop up with the Italian bread they served--seriously, heaven!) Everyone in our party loved their meals. We loved the atmosphere and our waiter, Mark, couldn't have been more attentive and helpful. We'll be back!

Great Food, Reasonably Priced!

By rtwlaw |

Had Dinner there on 7/18/17. Food was great and the prices were extremely reasonable. 4 adults with beers, a bottle of wine and dinners was under $170.00. i was surprised when I got the check as I thought it would be more. None of us finished our dishes as they were large and filling. Pasta was perfectly cooked. Only drawback was the server was a little sow and it may have been because they were understaffed as it was a tuesday night but the place was packed. She was very slow on the return of my change as i think she hoped i was leaving the balance as a tip which would have been exorbitantly too high. I had to ask her twice to bring me change.

pick somewhere else

By Tom B |

A totally terrible experience. The food was bland, and my wife and I barely ate any of the meal. The gnocchi was the size of ice cubes, and my veal was overcooked and tasteless. simply ick

Delish, yummy and great variety!

By MKERV |

Dinner before Kimmel, excellent meals, awesome service, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! Every person loved their choices, Eggplant parm, a shrimp pasta, veal/crab dish and chicken/pasta. Not sure of the names, but everything was delish!

A classic Philadelphia Italian restaurant.

By tpr7340 |

Just a great dinner. All of the food was loved by my family. Pistachio Risotto, Gnocchi Gorgonzola, Ravioli, and the desserts! Great food and excellent service. Note: watch where you park! Use the lot next door.

Old Philly Italian Spot

By BCKTravelers |

This is a wonderful Italian restaurant in Old Philly that’s worth the visit. You just get an old world, family-run feeling with hearty and delicious food. Great wine list too. Be sure to ask your server for advice- we got the best dishes and large portions. Enjoy!

Good Dinner

By 252jan253 |

This was down the street from our hotel so we decided to try it. We didn't have a reservation for Saturday night, but did get seated right away. You get a lot of food, but no sides (salad) which are extra. You really didn't need a side with the size of the meal. Service was good. Restaurant was very crowded, which did make it a bit on the noisy side.

Amazing food

By Jujuz007 |

Very welcoming hostesses. Neat and roomy dining area and loud but it’s to be expected on a Friday night in Philly. Food was fantastic, fresh and arrived piping hot. Attention to detail. Branzino was out of this world - melt in your mouth. Couldn’t stop eating the homemade capellini. My son’s linguini with shrimp & crab had a wonderful taste & the seafood was fresh and ample. Dad’s veal porcini was divine and full of flavor. Stepmom’s polenta with sausage was flavorful. The grilled calamari was amazing as well. First time here and hosted my parents from Ohio - they were impressed and raves about the bread and the mixture that came with it. Wondering what is was- olive tapenade or eggplant tapenade- I WANT TO COME BACK!!!

Exceptional Pasta

By J & D |

Great dinner for two. While not a romantic restaurant, the traditional dishes that we selected - mussels, pasta - were superb. The wines were also very well priced.

Menu change

By Girlfromsouthmain |

I really enjoy this local place, but they have changed their menu and or their chef And it is just not as tasty or well prepared, at least for me. We had a large group in late March and everyone commented on the difference, especially how awful the red clam sauce was. I returned in June and Had my favorite, puntenesca, and it was a different linguine, very undercooked and blah sauce. Cannolis are still really good. I'm hopeful it will return to my tastes.

Good Food in a super restaurant

By Louis Martin |

Our family group has visited Philadelphia several times, and during each of our visits we've paid a visit to Spasso's, an Italian restaurant located at 34 South Front Street in that part of the city they call the "old town," If you like authentic Italian food - and who doesn't - well this might just be the place for you to try. You won't be disappointed! The restaurant is usually busy, and the reason for that is the quality of the food, and the portions offered. If you like sea food, or for that matter any of the pasta dishes on the menu, you will leave happy. We always get the Linguine and the Mussels in red sauce. Be prepared because they will certainly give you portions big enough to satisfy both the big eaters in your party as well as enough food for those with smaller appetites who wish to share their meal. Spasso's has a lively and fun atmosphere coupled with a super wait staff, so have fun with both the surroundings and the food. I almost forgot to mention that Spasso's offers reasonable prices, we loved it! Lou

Average Food, Poor Service, Won't Be Back

By Deb W |

A group I sing with performed a couple songs in the bar as a "flash mob" surprise prior to a rehearsal dinner. Even though it's Restaurant Week, plus they had the rehearsal dinner, they were able to accommodate our group of 16 without a reservation so we decided to stay. It was a mistake. They put us at two large tables on the opposite side of the banquet room as the rehearsal dinner. It was extremely noisy and there was only one waiter to serve both our group of 16 as well as the rehearsal dinner party of 25. It took over 30 minutes before our orders were taken; I should have known better than to stay at that point. Then we waited nearly an hour after finishing our appetizers before entrees were served. The waiter never once apologized, only made excuses about how busy they were. Not my problem, staff appropriately or just tell us you can't accommodate a group of our size on short notice. I had the crab cake appetizer which was mediocre. When I finally got my entrée, veal with asparagus and artichokes, the meat was cooked perfectly but there were only two very scrawny asparagus, several of the artichoke leaves were scorched and the roasted potatoes were shriveled. I guess since there was a mandatory 20% tip added to the bill due to the size of our group, the waiter didn't feel compelled to provide good service so he didn't and in fact bordered on being rude. There are too many good choices for Italian in the area, I won't be choosing this one again.

Old City Dining

By Jacqueline W |

We enjoyed a very good dinner with Spedini, Caprese Salad, delicious beef briacoli, and Quattro Cheese Ravioli. It was well prepared and nicely served. Prices are modest and wines by the glass very nice. We wish they would slow down there service.Food appears much to rapidly to savor the wine, enjoy the appetizers and eat the entree. 45 minutes for a meal is just to quickly. If you are in a hurry this is a great place for good food. If you want to relax not so much.

Rehearsal Dinner

By Marcie R |

On Wednesday, September 5th, my husband and I hosted a Rehearsal Dinner for 60 guests at Spasso's. I can't say enough good things about it. First, I booked the room in January 2018. From our first meeting, Sam was as accommodating as could be. We checked in again in July and brought the bride & groom with us for dinner. We were able to see the room again, ask questions, everyone was great. And the food was delicious. We came again a week before the dinner with our final count, questions about music, speakers, etc., and again, we left feeling very confident things were well in hand. The dinner itself was a big hit. We were very excited and it seemed that Sam and the staff were excited right along with us. The room looked great. We had everything we needed. The staff was super and made a fuss over the centerpieces I made (which I greatly appreciated), the service was spot on (and I'm very fussy) the food was terrific and I still heard compliments about it at the wedding three days later. It was a wonderful night and Spasso's was the perfect place in every way.

Spasso was amazing!

Everything we tried was so flavorful and delicious. Waiters were kind and attentive, and the atmosphere was relaxing and family friendly.

Memorial Day Dinner

By David S |

We got together for some great Italian food while visiting from out of town. I would say that this place is mid range in price for Philadelphia. They can take a large group there was a group of 28 near us. The pasta was homemade and the red sauce was fantastic. Two had linguini and clams, two had fish dishes and one veal dish. Everything was delicious. Sorry no food in the picture we were hungry and made quick work of the food.

Good location, good food, good service

By Andy M |

A local Italian restaurant that seems to specialize in Seafood. We had chicken and veal dishes, plus ravioli and all were excellent. The place is huge inside and could likely accommodate large parties upon request. We'll go back next time we visit the city

Nice Find

By tomjohnsonmedland |

First time here - today at lunch. It's in a quiet location in town, on Front Street facing Penn's Landing. The fresh bread, olive oil, and vegetables for topping were delicious. The grilled calamari and the grilled chicken Panini were tops. The servers were professional and friendly. There was no wait at all. Prices were great. I'll be back here again. They had a full menu for lunch service. I want to come back and try the pasta.

Good dinner!

By Grant S |

Excellent service! The staff was very friendly. Extensive menu. My dinner of eggplant parmesan was very good. Atmosphere was very good. I would go again!

Excellent Meal!

By Jean H |

We made reservations for two on New Year's Eve after the 6:PM fireworks at Penn's Landing. We were 20 minutes early but the hostess took us right back to our table. Our server was great and quick to bring us our wine and appetizers. I had a crab cake and it was truly delicious. Our meals were just as incredible, as was the Tiramisu. We will diffidently be back.

Soccer Team Accommodated

By R P |

This restaurant accommodated our 10 yr old soccer team in a separate party room that allowed the kids to be kids and the parents to enjoy an AMAZING meal. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. Did I say the food was great? Well it was.

Favorite Italian

By John J H |

Every time I visit Philadelphia I make time to have dinner at Spasso on Front Street. This is a where south Philly Italian Dons go for good Italian food with top service. Their veal entrees are tender and prepared with expertise and care. Their pasta is fresh and cooked right. And they have a super assortment of deserts (sorry, no Spumoni or Gelato.) The atmosphere is nothing special. It's all about the food! Parking is convenient in a small lot next door to the restaurant. Waiters are all male. A separate, relatively quiet bar room is inside the place, with it's own entrance off Front Street. Locals and tourists frequent Spasso.

Best Homemade Pasta in Philly

By Lisa S |

Spasso was recommended to us by a local store owner and I’m so glad we went. the restaurant was very close to the Philadelphia waterfront, just a few blocks walk from the center of the old city area. The service and food were fantastic. We ordered the linguini carbonara and a spinach ravioli stuffed with cheese and mushrooms. All of the pasta was homemade and delicious. We wish we were in town another day just to eat there again!

Wow!

By Hampton Gourmet |

We ordered 2 chicken parmigiana, a veal parmigiana and chicken fingers with fries. The chicken parm was amazing. Chicken fingers were alright because it was an Italian place. This was true italiano food. It is right in Penn's Landing and the atmosphere is really nice. You should come here.

Pleasantly Exceptional dinner

By Edward C |

Visited during a brief visit to Philly. Tired after a long day of sightseeing, spotted Spasso online and walked from our nearby hotel. Intending only to satisfy our modest hunger, thought an Italian dinner would fit the bill. We were immediately surprised by the hospitality and offerings at Spasso. Our waiter, Noel, not only took excellent care of us throughout our meal, but entertained us constantly with his stories and anecdotes. My wife and I both enjoyed a delicious, dinner that evening. I particularly enjoyed their beef braciole and their homemade pasta was "to die for". Quite the pleasant surprise. Only wish we were closer and could visit again soon.

Exlent resturant

By HillaSeri |

We came a big group of people, so i have tasted many different dishes, and i enjoyed each one of them! The food was great, the atmosphere was friendly and the waitress were simpatico and friendly. I will visit this restaurant for sure on my next visit in philadelphia.

Good Food and Service

By Bobolina2014 |

Another traveler recommeded this restaurant and we were not disappointed. The server was friendly and attentive. We all had different varieties of fish or seafood and everyone loved their dishes. We parked just outside across the street. The dining room is spacious, but the sound level was not loud. We enjoyed and woukd return here.

Another great Italian dinner

By Lmmayo |

A pleasant walk from our hotel, this was another authentic Italian dinner in Philadelphia. The bread was perfect in every way and the roasted peppers for dipping was flavorful. I had a chicken dish in a balsamic reduction with pine nuts and peppers. So much flavor!!!! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Friendly place! Delicious food!

By majiemama |

Went here for a last minute dinner with a friend. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Made me feel very safe, considering my gluten intolerance. Lots of choices on the menu, but I had the grilled calamari and the walnut and goat geese salad. Great portion sizes, definitely filled me up. It was on a Monday, so my friend tried their house specialty lasagna, along with a Caesar salad. She loved the lasagna and had to take half home because it was a large piece. Will look forward to our next visit.

Very loud!! A little expensive, fair-good food. Parking next door sucks. Clean restrooms !

By Getmegoodfood |

It's not bad, however we don't think we'd come back. A Romanian woman took our reservation, upon arrival we had to wait another 45 min. Reservations don't matter . You couldn't hear each other speaking at the same table. This place is crazy loud. We had to park next door for $30 bucks. Our waiter couldn't keep up. It was real busy on Sat. 1/20. It looked like the Housewives of NJ on parade here, they seemed happy. Sorry; but we're giving it a 6 out of 10

Great classic Italian food

By lynnannmc |

Happened upon it on Front Street. We were very impressed. Service was good. Food was excellent. Arancini was great and so was the polenta with mushrooms. Huge servings for dinner. Good cocktails too. Not as crowded as some of the nearby hot spots so it’s a great option.

Our favorite Italian in Philly

By Bridget S |

Our go to Philly Italian restaurant. Roast vegetable tapenade served with the bread is the best complimentary start. Excellent red sauce. Favorite dishes: Grilled calamari appetizer. Veal & chicken Parm. Fresh pasta. Classic meatballs and pasta served with ricotta. Saturday special stuffed pork chop. Excellent tiramisu and chocolate mousse desserts.

The owner is top notch

By killerandspike |

Attended a very large rehearsal dinner here on a Friday night. Food and service were excellent! A young man in our party needed a gluten free option. The owner presented him with multiple options and went so far as to personally oversee and serve him his meal. This was in the middle of trying to oversee this very large function. He went above and beyond to accommodate! This is what makes a restaurant special. I will definitely return on my next visit to Philly. And the veal Piccata was excellent! Thank you

Date night

By Tonya T |

Husband and I went on a week night so parking was great, actually meter parking across the street from restaurant. It was our first time at Spasso and we got plenty of help and suggestions from wait staff. Loved the obeisance! Great view if fireworks at Penns landing. The mussels and pasta awesome. The plate portions more than enough!!

Great place, good diversity of selection

By Hugh |

This place was walking distance from our AirBnB, and was our first dinner in the Old City area. It started our holiday in Philadelphia on a great note. Two of us shared a Bruschetta as a starter, and shared a crabmeat ravioli dinner. Both outstanding, and plenty for the two of us (plus 2 glasses of wine each). We returned a few days later, just before the 4th of July fireworks at Penn Landing busy night, and they handled it extremely well. Another great dinner - highly recommended.

Authentic Italian

By Ali S |

Great italian food. Sauce had a little bit of spice for the veal parm. Server did a good job, even though towards the end got busy and wasnt paying us much mind after that.

It was Okay

By Nancy W |

It is a small place with tables packed in. We were lucky enough to have some room since we went in a weeknight and it wasn't that crowded. Even though it wasn't crowded, it was noisy for the amount of people there. We had Gnocchi Bolognese and Linguini Ponza (shrimp & crab meat). The sauce was bland with not much flavor in either of the dishes. The gnocchi was good. There were only 3 shrimp, but a decent amount of crab in the ponza - but again, pretty bland. We got a side of asparagus, that was grilled perfectly. We skipped dessert. With 1 glass of wine and an unsweetened ice tea, it cost us just under $80 (without tip). We wouldn't not go there again, but we wouldn't make a special trip.

Best resturaunt we found in Philly.

By Tamera F |

Stumbled upon the restaurant Spasso today while on vacation in Philly. I'm so glad we did. It was around 3 pm on a Tuesday, and there were not many people in the restaurant. However, we were greeted right away, and everyone was so nice and attentive even though they were busy getting ready for the evening rush. We ordered calamari, which was excellent, and seafood pappardelle and the carbanara they both excellent. Homemade pasta, sauces, salad dressings, and bread are all wonderful. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. We will definitely come back here next time.

Excellent food-authentic Italian dishes at reasonable prices.

By Mirza A |

Generous portions. Egg plant parmigiana was excellent-perfectly breaded. Grilled jumbo shrimp over spinach with lemon butter sauce was perfection. Moist and grilled just right. Had a side of asparagus which was enough for 2 and perfectly done. Had crime brûlée and tiramisu for dessert and again generous sizes and just right. The only down side was that the waiter didn’t seem inclined to run separate checks for a party of 4 and tried to “warn” us that the order would be delayed if he did that. Overall worth a visit.

Very good dinner spot for Italian food!

While in Philadelphia, we had dinner at Spasso Italian Grill after reading reviews in our travel info. We had their grilled salmon and veal parm and both were very good. It is a smaller appearing restaurant from the outside and the surrounding area almost looks a bit suspect, but the restaurant is quite nice inside. Because we were early for our dinner reservation, we walked around the beautiful area near the river and across the bridge first, then returned for dinner. Loved it!

Rehearsal Dinner

By Eileen F |

We were invited by the groom's father to the rehearsal dinner. LOVED the location because we walked the area before dinner and took in the historic sites. We had a great dinner with great service. This is a nice place to wind down after a day of site seeing in Philly. I had the salmon that was very good. My husband had the chicken parm that was a very large portion.

Good Italian restaurant in Old City/Center City District of Philly

By fba5 |

We ate in a side room for a banquet dinner with 70 to 80 guests. The food was good. Homemade Fusilli Putanesca was served as a separate course, after the salad & before the entree. I actually enjoyed the Dessert Sampler, served family style to share, the most. It included tiramisu, a cannoli, cheesecake, & chocolate mousse cake - YUM! Staff was accommodating to a woman at our table who couldn't eat these desserts. She was pleasantly surprised when they quickly substituted a Crème Brûlée for her. FYI, Zagat currently rates the food, decor, & service at this restaurant as "very good to excellent."

Best Tasting Italian in the Area!

By abillups |

We frequent this establishment often. Great tasting food at a great price. Large portions & pleasant atmosphere.

Ok Italian Grill

By Curt S |

Nice selection but mediocre food. The crab cakes had a lot of breaking. The salmon was so so and the timballo special was mushy and bland. On the good side, our waitress was very good. Also, the eggplant bread dip was very good.

Spasso Restaurant Experience

By jpioo53 |

Food and atmosphere was good. But something else bothered me about this restaurant. One of us discovered that the bill included an extra $1.50. However, the amount wasn’t itemized on the bill but just included in the total. We were told that the $1.50 charge was for the ice in a mixed drink on the rocks. After we asked to speak to the manager, we were told that the manager was on a phone call. After several minutes, the waitress appeared and we then asked the waitress to follow up with the manager. The waitress (who is not at blame) told us that the manager said it was ok to take away the $1.50 charge. Apparently the manager was hoping that we wouldn’t mention this again. We thought it was very sneaky that the restaurant charged this without telling their customers. If for example, 50 people get drinks on the rocks, they would get $75 dollars from that!

We will return

By 2onvacaton |

Spasso is comfy, and inviting. The portions are generous. We lucked out visiting Philadelphia during restaurant week. YUM – the escargot, grilled salmon, fettuccine shrimp and desserts all delicious.

The Best

Enjoyed our first dinner out in a very long time and this amazing restaurant. The food and service were both perfect. Excellent covid safety protocol. Can’t wait to go back.

The Grilled Calamari!!!

By Charles4564 |

Great restaurant. The food is top notch. The best IMHO is the grilled calamari. They are able to take large groups and deliver quality food on point every time. Definitely worth visiting this great restaurant.

Horrible food at best

By Univax |

I simply can't believe that this place is rated as high as it is. Have these people never eaten real Italian good food? The only conclusion I can draw is that they have never had good Italian food. This place is terrible! I honestly believe that the wait staff know how bad it is. I had the veal parmigiana. It was the worst I have ever had. The taste was just off. I can't even pinpoint what it was because it was just so disgusting. The straw or "al dente" pasta was barely cooked. Now before all of the pretentious defenders come back at me that I don't understand how to properly cook pasta I say that the only people who choke this down are the ones who are worried about looking uncultured. Raw pasta is raw pasta. It's not supposed to be crunchy or resemble a building material. My wife had the gnocchi. She described it as having come out of bag of frozen food. The sauce was supposed to have Gorgonzola in it, but it was a bland cream sauce at best. When put together it was a gelatinous mess. Not worth eating. Again, it resembled a building material more than food. Lastly was the wine. We had the Chianti Reserva . After the first glass you began to taste the fact that the wine had actually turned. I believe the issue is with their cellar being too warm. I would seriously think twice about eating here. It is truly worth skipping. If your hotel recommends this place and you go, make sure you educate the concierge about the disservice he/she is doing. I went here on the concierge's recommendation. He was made aware of this and my review of the hotel with certainly reflect this as well.

I'm visiting from out of town (Syracuse) business trip training - fantastic service and the FOOD was delicious ! 5 stars - my server/barkeep Lauren was wonderful, swift service and a delight to chat with ! I had the Pappardelle with porcini and chicken & the fried calamari was fresh and excellent ! I will return !

A must try!

Spasso is one of our favorite restaurants. Food is consistently delicious and the service is excellent.

Wonderful Italian entrees within a reasonable price

By tclemson |

The Ravioli Quattro Formaggi was absolutely delicious. Great calamari and bruschetta. Fresh and seasoned perfectly! Will return.

Delicious

By adlee |

We happened upon this restaurant after arriving in Philadelphia late on a Sunday night. The food was just delicious. My husband and I shared a veal dish and a pasta dish and both were excellent. Rich, but not so rich that you feel ill afterwards. The prices were more than reasonable, especially given the qualit. Tye (sp?), our waiter was great, and provided an insider's opinion on places to see in the City. We would recommend this restaurant highly.

Suprising gem!

By PuzzleSolver855 |

We chose this spontaneously over a closer restaurant and we're glad we did. It happened to be Philly's restaurant week and we ordered one meal (like we usually do) to split. What a delightful experience. Meatballs in red sauce, ravioli in cream sauce and cannoli for dessert! Only comment was that my red wine was too warm (it was a hot day). I'm picky! I'd eat here again if I lived there.

Very good Italian food!

By tian s |

We had the Polenta with Porcini Mushrooms, the Arugla Salad and the Zuppa Di Pesce. Very good food. You can sit outside or inside.

Met All My Expectations

By NSSBAYSIDE |

Made reservaations to meet my nephiew and great nephiew on a weeknight. There were four of us plus an infant. The staff was very accomodating, the food was very good, and the service was equally very good. Nice apps selection. I had one of my old time favorites, chicken rollatini, and it was very good. The restaurant i located right ourside of Penns Landing, But there was no event there at the time so it seemed sreet parking was available, but there was also local paid parking available also. I live in NJ. Would I travel to Philly just for the restaurant, propobly not, but would not hesitate to go back should I be in the area.

Great place for a celebration

By Kristin G |

We celebrated my dad’s birthday here because I knew it was a place that everyone would be able to find something on the menu. With 15 people in our party, only one left disappointed (and she never likes any restaurants). The appetizers were delicious, the service was great. This is a place we often forget about because we normally don’t eat Italian food when we go out. This is definitely a great place to try.

Home made Italian

By Anne P |

We enjoyed our dinner here. You are given a delicious tapanade to eat with their bread. The pasta is all home made and the dinners were excellent. I had shrimp/crab with linguine and a light tomato sauce and my husband had a huge serving of chicken parm. Our server was very nice and the service was quick and good.

Unbelievable experience!

By Foodie21601 |

Spent a last-minute weekend in Philly with our 17 month old and came across Spasso when we went to Shane’s. We’ve eaten all over the world and this place had some of the best service we’ve encountered. They treated us like family and doted on our little one. Busy Saturday but got us right in - fast and great service from Ty (spelling?) — food pretty good, too. So grateful for the treatment and tastiness - highly recommend!!

Very good dinner

By hbhakh |

I recently had dinner with a colleague at Spasso. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. The menu is obviously Italian with a focus on seafood. Our food was excellent. I had Zuppa Di Pesce ......there was as much seafood as pasta. It was fresh and well prepared. Service was very good. I'd go back.

Good Food!

By Daniel Sz |

It was dinner with friends before Sunday Love Half Marathon! Most of the group ordered some kinds of pasta! Nothing to complain, nothing to impress!

Traditional Italian near the River

By Richard J |

I visited Spasso during a business trip to Philadelphia. It seems to be a popular place with the locals. There are a lot of seafood dishes on the menu. I opted for the Chicken Parmigiana; my colleague had the stuffed pork chops. Both were plentiful and good. Vegetables are generally ordered separately. I was excited to see the broccoli had grilled garlic on top. Unfortunately, the garlic tasted like fish. Oddly, bread was not served with butter or olive oil. I would return.

Fantastic!

By kp209 |

I came here for dinner after a long week at a conference. The caesar salad was fantastic and my main course was very nice. The pasta was homemade. The staff was friendly and I had great service. I highly recommend this place.

Very authentic, great service

By tuscanywine123 |

We had a wonderful meal with very good service prior to a concert. We were a party of 6 and they offered an antipasto platter until we were able to decide on our dinners, which was outstanding. They could offer a better selection of wines, but the ones we worked well with our dinners

Spontaneous Stoped

By LAFINH20 |

Veal Porcini was delicious. I already had ate a cutlet at point of photo capture. Side of cappellini in red gravey. Also started with a bowl of pasta fragiole. Incredible flavor.

Bad and rude service

By knobbie50 |

Went on Christmas Eve...service was VERY slow...waiter wouldn’t honor a request for melted butter with my entree...I thought it would take an act of Congress to get a glass of wine...I was mislead about what sides were available...the food wasn’t bad,but I will not return...had to ask another staffer who bussed tables for water refills....only gave a 10% tip,and I didn’t think it was close to being earned.Oh,and everything was ala carte, another turn off.

Amazing restaurant

By Kathleen |

I don’t want to say how great this spot is because I want to keep it to myself, but I’m so glad I stumbled upon Spasso a few weeks ago with my SO. Two dinners and each has been flawless. Sam and Lisa both were really lovely staff who knew the menu and also were really great to us and treated us like friends. I hope to spend many more nights here. Eat the antipasto and don’t be afraid to get the salmon even though it isn’t a seafood-dedicated restaurant. It was some of the best I’ve had in a while.

Diner not so Italian

By Denis L |

The Italian cuisine is very simple to prepare, providing you have fresh ingredients in the kitchen Falling do so you get tasteless dishes like they serve at this restaurant The linguini with meat ball and tomato sauce was a disaster. Pasta was to al dente , meat ball cold and not fresh, tomato sauce with no flavor. The chicken al agro was not much better with a much to strong balsamic vinegar taste . The place is dated ,very noisy and does not meet minimum cleaness standard Big dissapointment since it was well scored with trip advisor thus this is a mystery for me.

Very good

By Don T |

Service was attentive. All the dishes were well prepared. I had the rigatoni with pistachio sauce which was excellent. Very nice place.

Great appetizer!

By Currendodds 72 D |

Mussels with white sauce is great! I recommend this to everyone! Gnocchi with gorgonzola is amazing. The veal is some of the best I've had.

Sunday dinnere.

By hocar |

When I walked in, disappointed by the atmosphere. Was surprised by the menu and the food which was very good. The waiter was excellent.

What a Meal

By CDB051965 |

Bread and a home made bruschetta mix to start. Follow up with an escargot “appetizer” portioned as if it was a meal! The dish is unique as its not your typical butter sauce serving. Rather, think Italian. Tomatoes, herbs, sauce. Awesome! Almost couldn’t finish the chicken parmigiana on a bed of homemade linguine. Finish with spumoni. Roll me out. Side note: I ate in the adjoining bar as I was eating alone. Kudos to the bartender to strike up a conversation. If you’re eating alone or with just a couple others, give it a shot. Good food in a casual setting.

Good stuff right here

By Daniel G |

Fantastic visit for my wife, me and 2 adult children. Service was attentive but not over the top. Bruschetta app was ok. Arancini was spot on. Linguine Carbonara, Crabmeat Ravioli, Gnocchi Bolognese and Rigatoni Pistachio were all excellent... served hot and delicious. Would highly recommend for a decent priced, good meal. Hope to be back soon.

Good Food, Great Service

By lvitelli1 |

It was a Saturday night, and the dining room was full, so they sat us at a table in the bar. It turned out to be great! Much less noisy and wonderful service. Our waitress was friendly and very attentive, keeping the bread and drinks coming! Food was very good, deserts were delicious. Nice experience, would recommend!

I could take it or leave it

By IslandHopper2020 |

We went here for restaurant week. Parked right in front of restaurant. That was good luck. Reservation were for 5:45pm and we were seated immediately. The restaurant has a rustic feel to it... open kitchen in the back. I ordered the beef pappardelle which was ok. The calamari was average and the martini was strong. Cheese cake was not memorable. This restaurant to me was just average, nothing to get excited about. Staff was average. Food was average. I would return if asked but not in a rush too.

Excellent Italian food at great prices

By Michael B |

My family happened upon Spasso Italian Grill while on vacation in Philly. We took advantage of a three course meal special for $35 and they threw in a bottle of house wine to boot. The mussels appetizer must have had 30 count! They split our chicken parmigiana order for our boys. The crab ravioli was plentiful as well and tasty. Bread was served with grilled veggies. We also each got dessert, both of which were fabulous. Service was attentive and friendly. Atmosphere comfortable and welcoming without being stuffy. If I’m downtown Philadelphia, check out Spasso’s!

It was a party!!

By Josh D |

I had a very eventful week this week because Monday I saw Kendrick and SZA at Lincoln financial field and it made me realize how much of a downfall Drake has had!! Kendrick did Not Like Us at the end and everyone at the stadium yelled the line I shouldn’t repeat here!! I had my graduation from Temple U on Wednesday and I’m a fan of celebratory meals so I went here after the ceremony!! My mom said I was king for the night so I can get whatever I wanted and I got short rib pasta and salad and also a fancy cocktail!! It was a very good place to celebrate the occasion and all the things I for were very good!!

Very good meal

By stephanie m |

Came here by accident and we were very happy with our food and service. We both had a pasta dish with seafood and the pieces of seafood were very generous in size. The coffee was good as were the dessert. Would go back again

Recently took our daughter and fiends for Her Bday. Set her and her friends at separate table, my wife and me alone at own table. We had two of the fish specials . My shrimp dish with pasta was very good with a thick rich blush sauce. My daughter and friends had some of the pasta staples with lots of food taken home. Will go back.

Awesome.

By mercury4u2 |

We had an 8:00 show at the Fillmore to see Sting so we needed to catch an early dinner. Headed to the bar around 5:30 and were "wowed" by the food, service and ambience. Escarole, Polenta with mushrooms and a veal/crab meat/spinach dish were all excellent. Kudos to the bartender who juggles work, family and her 3 year old. Venue can handle a party of 2 or 20. You want to eat, drink and hang around Penn's Landing. Make Spasso your first and last stop.

Cross country road trip

Had lunch here, recommended by the concierge at the Hilton. A dish of pasta and lobster and another of pasta with shrimp. Bread served was hot and very good with olive oil to dip the bread.

First and Last Visit

By Melly756 |

We dined at Spasso for our annual friends holiday dinner. It was highly recommended by friends of one of our group so we decided to give it a try. While the service was great the food was mediocre at best. In a city with a plethora of Italian restaurants I can't understand how the ratings are so high and they need to do a lot better. The menus selections were heavy on mushrooms and asparagus, neither of which was well prepared or tasty. The vegetable medley that came with the steak was undercooked and had zero seasoning. If you want excellent Italian visit Pesto instead.

Excellent food

By GeetaB |

Loved the Ravioli Quattro frommagio and the pepper /oil dip served with the bread service. Ambiance was ok, but service was very good

Not what i Call a real Italian Restaurant.

By bruno m |

This is a place were you don't expect a real Italian Fine Dining. It's more like a let's get together and hope for the best. I was invited by friends for an evening and the truth it's not my kind of restaurant. noise, food at best average service as good as the restaurant Average. not a Place that i Recommend for a good italian Dinner. sorry but if you expect the real thing this is not the place.

A very nice meal.

By bzmd53 |

The food was good, the atmosphere was fine and the service was as it should be. I had lamb, which was well prepared, and my husband had chicken parmesan, which he said was tasty. I'm not sure that this is a destination restaurant, but it was pretty tasty.

Fantastic restaurant

By Maurice M |

We searched for Italian restaurants to eat on Sunday evening in the city center. Spasso turned out to be a great choice for us! We were glad that we made a reservation as it was packed. Service is good and Well organized. The waiters keep a good eye on all tables. Menu has plenty of choices and not the typical American-Italian ones but more genuine Italian. We had a great evening with excellent food and wine for a very reasonable price. When in Philly again, we’ll be back. Only reason for not giving 5stars is the noise level in the restaurant which was pretty high.

Good Italian dinner

By 6t1 |

Good food and generous portions. Good value. Parking right next door. One could do better but if this place is handy, it’s a safe bet

First Friday Italian

By GigiNYC |

We were out enjoying First Fridays in Old City. After a couple of art galleries we went to the car and it was parked in front of Spasso's....so in we went. The decor reminded me of sitting in a large kitchen. We were seated immediately and looked over the menu. I ordered Linguie Ponza and my date ordered Gnocchi Bolognese. Our server told us that the owner is from Ponza, Italy. I guess I made the right choice. The food was well seasoned and good. You could tell that care was taken in making the dishes. The linguine was al dente and the gnocchi made by hand. The atmosphere, service, and entrees were excellent. A perfect way to end the evening.

Restaurant Week Scam

By Peter P |

Went here a week ago and they had a $45 a person special on Tuesday and Wednesday nights with appetizer, entree and dessert with a bottle of wine for every two people. Food was ok so went back for Restaurant week and they had the same deal less the wine. They were still advertising the wine on the website so I spoke to the manager. Said there was nothing he could do and we could leave if we wanted to. We left. There are many decent restaurants within walking distance. Don’t need to give my money to a manager that treated us like crap.

Good Food, Good Service, Good Prices

By jagman8f |

Altogether pleasant. Five men out for their Wednesday dinner. Easy parking on the street. Inviting main dining room in an old warehouse. Food was "downtown" Italian in Old City. Not haute but like I envision a grandmother would make. I would not call it a place where I would take guests who I was trying to impress but I will certainly return for a fine, family style outing.

Great

By James W |

We were with a group of 40 + people from a retirement community on a trip to the Kimmel. The food was delivered with great coordination, very hot and very delicious. This is a establishment for all.... Try the salmon.... magnificent👍

Good food, but loud and we ate facing the kitchen

By VacationGirl39123 |

We ate there on New Year's Eve. The food was very good and the service was good. However, the restaurant was loud, and the tables were placed very close together. There were multiple rooms, and we unfortunately ended up in the room near the kitchen entrance. Our table actually faced where wait staff was entering and leaving the kitchen. It just wasn't the ambiance I was hoping for. The biggest perk of this place is its location. We were only a block away from Penn's Landing and being able to go watch the NYE fireworks. And there is a pay parking lot right next door to the restaurant, convenient in the cold weather we have been having.

Everything was great

By ppark0927 |

We met here today for lunch. We had a fantastic time. The food is wonderful. The service is outstanding and the prices are reasonable.

Excellent, authentic Italian cuisine!!!

By Doreena P |

Excellent appetizers, homemade pasta and good service. Delicious pepper and mushrooms served with bread before the meal. Try the polenta!!!!

Great food and great atmosphere

By Vicky C |

Loved the food and the menu I’d really diverse. Parking was easy and that doesn’t happen often in the city

Amazing experience

By Lew L |

On a bus trip to the Franklin Institute and the flower show our tour group was brought here for dinner on a Saturday night. We had 41 guests and when we arrived our tables were ready. Drink orders and bread were taken care of quickly and our dinner choices were given. Salad came fast and then the main course. They gave us 3 choices ( pasta chicken or salmon) and everything at our table was delicious and the portions large. Desert was an assortment of great Italian pastries all of which were amazingly delicious. I have to say that of all the arranged dining I have had touring this was by far the best I have had in the United States so far and second to only 2 I have had in the Tuscany section of Italy

Bachelor's Last meal

By NBartucci |

Had a group of 12 for dinner on a Saturday night. The wait staff was great! They were on the ball the entire meal and they didn't seem rushed, just a calm professionalism that made the meal seem special. Most of the group got seafood pasta dishes. It's takes skill to make seafood pasta dishes that don't have a 'fishy' taste and the Spasso chefs delivered! The value we received bill came was a pleasant surprise especially for the amount and quality of food we ordered. Would recommend for special occasion or dinner for clients.

One of our favorites, consistent

By RichC250 |

We were a party of 12, everyone had a fabulous plate and wonderful time. Under the circumstances, several large parties in the same room, service was good. It can get a bit loud too. The main dining area is more subtle. Find out about the mid -week special it is a great value. Not one of the 12 entrees were disappointing in any way!

Old Philly Italian Place

By Antsgirl85 |

Easy walk from our hotel. I suggest you make a reservation. Place was pretty crowded on a Friday evening. We were seated in main dining area up front, which I was pleased with. Two back areas had large party's happening. Our server Cosmin was excellent. Attentive but not over bearing. Did not rush us. Food and cocktails were excellent. Reasonably priced. Wasn't crazy for the cannoli drizzled with chocolate. Just give me lots of powered sugar.

Excellent Italian

By SJTRIMPS |

Our cousins recommended this restaurant and joined us for dinner. We are from Montreal and have great restaurants:this one was a revelation.Great food, friendly, warm service and it's a huge place. We were not rushed and perfectly served. I had a crab cake appetizer as I'm a tiny eater and it came with a salad on the plate so it was perfect for me.My hubby had spaghetti with white clam sauce which he said was among the best he'd had and he has that almost every where we go.The cousins shared a delicious Bronzino fish which was a special of the day.Hooray for all our dishes!

Mediocre

By DraxNJ |

Had a nice meal here but can't say the food was great. Enjoyed the atmosphere and had good service but the food is not exceptional.

Good Service and ok food

By Mohannad L |

Nothing was special about the food, bread was less than average, seems to have come out of a super market. Ordered few appetizers: fried calamari, octopus and snails. Were ok. Pasta ordered seemed homemade, but not special

Excellent and Authentic Italian Restaurant

By Charles W |

My wife and I had an early dinner (3:00) at Spasso on Front Street with another couple on a Sunday afternoon. I picked the place because it was one of the few establishments in the neighborhood open at that time and had reservations available. Little did I know that I should had made the reservation here in the first place without feeling like I had to settle. The food was delicious and authentic, the portions were hugh, and the ambiance was quintessential. I had the shrimp fettuccini with a pesto cream sauce. The pasta was cooked perfectly. Everone in our party loved the place and we'll definitely keep Spasso in mind the next time we're in Old City.

Excellent food, excellent value

By Jon H |

Four of us visited for dinner. Everything we ordered was excellent and such great value as well with the special offer of $45 for 3 courses {plus 2 bottles of the tasty house red) The staff were very attentive and accommodating. Will definitely visit again next time we're in Philly

great specials

By dramadoula |

We had two of the specials for Sunday evening. rack of lamb was great . The greens were a bit bitter but the polenta was amazing. it was a cake cut on the diagonal . very crispy.. Service was nice. would go back again.

Good food good service

By Rosemarie L |

We were at Penn’s landing and there are so many restaurants in the area. We were tired and hungry but we wanted good food. We found Spasso Italian grill and it was a good experience. Our server Marni was very nice and accommodating. We ordered grilled shrimp, arugula salad, calamari and mussels. Food was fantastic and enjoyed it so much . I’m trying to rate the service, food and value but it won’t go. So for service 5 stars, food 4 stars, value 4 stars

Very good Italian food

When you walk in Spasso's has a long bar if you would like to grab a drink. They have a full bar and have some specialty drinks. When seated the staff is very professional. Tho food is excellent. Can be very busy at peak times.

Authenic Italian

We stopped in with a family of 9 with 3 sleepy toddlers after a day at the Adventure Aquarium and the staff bent over to accommodate us. All of our meals were distinctive and delicious and the prices were quite reasonable. Very relaxing experience after a long day.

A gem of an Italian restaurant

By NorwichCarrow |

We ate here on our last night in Philadelphia, which was a Saturday so glad we booked. Very busy and quite noisy inside, but weather was perfect so ate out on the sidewalk. This was during Restaurant Week in Philadelphia, so great offers of specials. Food was superbly cooked and presented and there's an excellent wine list. A real treat, portions are huge and everybody seemed to be leaving with doggy bags. Highly recomended.

Nice place to enjoy Italian fare

By Northern_Ibis |

We were visiting Philly and staying not far from Old Town. We were interested in an Italian meal, and decided to visit nearby Spassos. We ordered a variety of fish and chicken dishes, which were all quite enjoyable. The house red wine (made with Barbera grapes) was a good choice. Spassos' website proclaims that they offer Italian comfort food, and that is an apt description. What you get here are generous portions, a bit on the heavy side, with lots of flavor. These are definitely not tiny portions with a sprig of this or that. We ordered a side of broccoli rabe that was done perfectly and ample enough for four to share. We finished with a tiramisu that was nothing special--passable but forgettable. Service was very friendly and reasonably efficient, even on a busy Friday night.

Good casual dinner - great bruschetta

We enjoyed our dinner here. The bruschetta was wonderful, and the pastas very good. A very good value. I’d happily return.

Spasso!

By DannyD81 |

Over ten years since my last visit to Spasso, yet it did not disappoint. We were in town with friends for the weekend, and glad we stopped in. Highly recommend the lobster ravioli. Portion is six ravioli, so I recommend a side dish or an app to start

There were 3 of us for dinner

By LBH559 |

There were 3 of us for dinner here. We shared a steak, it had roasted potatoes & roasted vegetables served with it. We also had gnocchi in a Gorgonzola cream sauce that was really delicious! Plus we shared a side of broccoli that was cooked just right. The only downside was that since we were sharing dinner they brought out individual plates for us to trans tour food onto & they must’ve come from the refrigerator because they were so cold, not great for putting our hot food onto, otherwise our dinner was good. We did have cannoli & coffee for dessert. The coffee wasn’t very good, I’d skip it. But I’d go there again.

Nice Sunday Evening Meal

By Arlington7175 |

Spasso Grill was a pleasant surprise for our last dinner in Philadelphia. It is probably just enough off the tourist beaten path. However, for an early Sunday dinner, it was doing a respectable business. We started out with the grilled calamari. It was fresh, but just a touch dry. We shared both the Zuppa di Pesce and Gnocchi Bolognese with beef. Both were good (and generously portioned). However, the Gnocchi was the clear winner. The pasta is well made. We had four glasses of wine. The Nero d'Avola was the best and a good complement to the Gnocchi Bolognese. Our server was friendly, chatty, and knowledgeable about the food and the wine pairing. However, we did have to remind him a couple of times about our lactose allergy when he was making recommendations, so we had to police the meal a little more than we are accustomed. The restaurant itself is a little rough around the edges, but it was very clean. I think of it is a place to go after a hard day that allows you to be comfortable and to be yourself. Now for the value. We ate very well (we skipped lunch, so we were hungry) with a shared starter and two massive main courses along with four glasses of wine for a grand total of $125 including tax and tip! This was definitely a bargain for what we got considering the quality of the food and wine. If this restaurant was in our neighborhood, we would return.

Excellent!

By Robert77096 |

We really enjoyed our dinner. Great sized portions, great tasting food, attentive staff. The restaurant wasn't too crowded and it was pretty loud, but otherwise it was really a nice dinner.

Great Italian

By Kyle |

The food and service were amazing here! I can’t have too many complaints about this place but if I had to say the only problem was it was loud. But that’s just nit picking, the food was some of the best authentic Italian restaurants in the area. I got the Fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp with a pesto sauce and since the portion was so large I have a great lunch for today too! Highly recommend to anyone who wants great food.

Excellent home made Italian

By bcostan |

I was in Philadelphia for a conference and went to Spasso's with my wife and daughter, based on some enticing reviews. I prefer good Italian food in a relaxed atmosphere and Spasso's fit the bill, along with attentive service. For appetizers, we shared the antipasto and mussels in red sauce and were surprised at the size of the both portions. The antipasto was more than enough for three and the mussels could have been a meal in itself. For main entrees, we ordered the Pappardelle Porcini, Veal Carciofi & Asparagi, and Short Rib Pappardelle. The chicken and veal were cooked very well and the home made Pappardelle was a treat. As another review mentioned, the dish has an ample serving of short rib. Often a mediocre restaurant will mask a lack of quality by increasing serving size. Spasso's impressed me with their excellent, uniform quality and portion sizes that left us with snacks the next day.

We had a party of 9 and they brought our food at the same time. Wait staff was very helpful. We received our discount without asking.

Spasso Italian Grill

Very good food, very good service, popular restaurant, a bit noisy ambiance. Still worth going for a good meal.

Delightful outside seating.

Server was professional and prompt. He gave insightful suggestions and was attentive to our beverages and bread. The food was tasty!

NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE

By Galo P |

The food was mediocre, now I know I'm comparing it to NYC's flavor of authenticity because that it where I am from. The hostess was very RUDE and RACIST !! On top of this, I was overcharged for items that I had not ordered. When I informed staff they reassured me it would be fixed. My bank statement says otherwise. I was still charged the wrong amount... I definitely will not be going back!

Perfect meal

This restaurant was fantastic. The best Italian meal I've ever had. They had a three course meal with a bottle of wine for 50.00. You get to choose each course. Worth every dollar. Extremely friendly. If I lived in Philly I would be so addicted. You must go if you have the chance. You will NOT regret it.

Homemade pasta!

By Newman |

The homemade pappardelle was done al dente, the marinara sauce excellent. The chianti by the glass tasted sour but the waiter immediately gave me another option, and I had a fine tasting merlot. The decor is fairly spartan but attractive. The hostess was kind and gracious, the waiter very attentive. A good experience and value.

Wonderful Dinner

Dinner with family on Saturday night. Had a drink at the bar beforehand, very relaxing. Our meals were delicious - we never felt rushed, able to linger over coffee and dessert. We will definitely be back. Location was a big plus, too!

Not good

Everything was boiled and bland. Save your money. Service at 7:30PM on a holiday weekend was 1/3 capacity. That should tell the tale.

Bellisimo!

By Htpapaco |

Food, service And atmosphere - BELLISIMO! In Philadelphia in September and it happens to be restaurant week! So glad we we tried Spasso. The calamari was flavorful and the carbonara very tasty! This is my second time dining here and each time has been memorable and hastily fantastic! Other special dishes - grilled calamari! Yes please. We will be back.

Its Italian!

I had a lamb shank here that was as good as any I have ever had. The octopus capachio was fantastic, the eggplant relish was like my mother use to make. The waitress was great and extremely helpful, I had to make sure I left her a nice tip.

Amazing food

From the moment we entered we were warmly greeted. Felt just like family. They are kid friendly and had a great kids menu. Our food was amazing. I felt like I was back in Italy. We highly recommend this place.

Average Italian - Nothing To Rave About

By Nicolette A. Munoz Consulting |

We visited based on the recommendation of a friend. The food was "Meh" for me. I had the Linguine Puttanesca. Other people in our party of seven enjoyed their dishes, but no one was raving.

Nice Italian food, good service, a wonderful evening

A comfortable dining area, casual or dress up, good menu selections with a full bar. Homemade pastas, fresh seafood and many items to choose from.

Just stopped into this place with

no reference or recommendations to judge. This place was great! Service was great. However, it did not seem to be a place to big big parties.

Great meal, really friendly

Really great food, great advice from waiter to make sure we had the right meals. Flexible for kids meals - made small portions of pasta customised for the fussy kids.

My Birthday Dinner

By Joan282828 |

The parking cost 25.00 next store in the parking lot, because it was raining and parking is very limited. It was a pleasure to park so close. My husband and I were seated next to the kitchen which was open. It was very cool, Like having dinner and a show! We shared an antipasta salad which was so delish, The bread was brought with grilled veggies and they refill it as much as you want. My husband had veal saltolaboca, I had shrimp and crabmeat in a pink sauce. Both were so amazing and the waiter was fabulous! We skipped dessert because we were over fill. We brought home half of both our meals for lunch on Sunday> Bravo! We love it!
