We discovered this restaurant almost a year ago by chance. It's a neighbourhood local favourite apparently as it can get packed on mid-weeknights but especially on weekends. The two owners are Italian, and some of the staff are also Italian. The servers are mostly good except the last time there was a young girl who was definitely not polished. She used to be the hostess at one point, but nowadays she is a server. For example, it was quite irritating she did not ask if we wanted parmesan cheese. Instead she proceeded to sprinkle it on our food whether or not we wanted it. There were other instances as well. Another thing with service is if it's a full house the servers seem to be overwhelmed so you'll need to request everything at least twice. As for the food it is reasonably priced and for the most part excellent. Their complimentary bread is house made and like a foccacia type. There is either accompaniment of oil and vinegar or a puree of sundried tomato which is really addictive. The minestrone is house made, but it does seem to lack flavour, and there does not seem to be any beans included. We like the seafood pasta dishes most, but the mixed meat (e.g. lamb, chicken, and sausage) is also really good. The desserts such as the tiramisu and the chocolate mousse cake are good, but frankly every single dessert (even the ice cream-not gelato) is priced at $6.50 each. It's a bit high to me especially when the cakes are sliced very thinly sometimes. The clientele are mostly regulars, but there are many international diners visiting. Thus, it reminds me a bit of Europe whenever we dine there.

Fine Dining for Lunch

By Kim A |

Wandering West Portal looking for a new place to try ~ we discovered and experienced this excellent restaurant with an excellent menu and even specials for lunch. As we watched everything go by to the other tables we found ourselves saying "I want to try that, too". There are two gentlemen who seem like brothers they are so much alike and have worked together for years providing impeccable.service.

Excellent Friendly Neighborhood Italian Pleasure

By MarshBruce |

Nice atmosphere. Exceptional service. Wide range of menu choices. Special mention of the wine menu including a far ranging variety of wines by the glass. I found the negroamaro to be exceptional. Stracciatella soup wonderful. The petrale sole perfectly prepared with great vegetables. Easy street parking. Or take the trolley.

Good food, good atmosphere, good neighborhood

By sgarabedian |

We went there as a family with multiple generations. Everyone enjoyed the food. I didn't rate it excellent because I didn't feel it was over the top, but definitely good and i would go again. It's located in the West Portal/Sunset neighborhood of San Francisco. It's not a tourist area, which in my opinion makes it more authentic and appealing. Mostly locals. For such a place to survive, you must have repeat customers from the neighborhood. We had our kids too, and even they had a decent time. We had everything from Chicken to Seafood, to Pasta, to salad and they were all tasty. Last but not least, it was affordable. We spent around $230 for 9 people.

Best Italian in the Bay

By goodairs |

The food is awesome. Don't miss the portobellos and the meat dish. Pasta and pizza are also amazing Friendly and very pro service.

Excellent food, nice atmosphere

We enjoyed our final meal in San Francisco at Spiazzo's in West Portal. The neighborhood is pleasant-vibrant and lively main drag-but away from the bustle and noise of the touristy downtown. Good wine list, great service, open a bit later than a lot of SF restaurants. Give it a try, then go for a walk in this adorable neighborhood.

Still surprises me.

Once again i had the pleasure to have dinner here. This time i had pasta and pizza. Just amazing. The sausage is awesome and the fileto is unique. And everyone is SO friendly and profesional. These guys keep improving. Don't miss this place if you are around.

Wonderful cozy Italian

By jyanover |

Our recent family get together at Spiazzio's was very special. Margherita made us feel at home from the very first moment. She and her colleagues provided extremely warm and friendly, yet highly attentive and thoroughly professional service throughout our delicious meal. The menu is expansive and there is something to delight everyone. The Ingredients are fresh and the flavors are delectable. Come hungry because the portions are also very generous. It's a shame I live on the East Coast, but I know I'll definitely return on my next trip!

Nice dinner

By 1GiantsMSo |

Heading home stopped here for dinner and very pleased. Booth and table seating was available. The server let us choose. The menu had lots of choices for appetizers, pasta and other entrees. The pumpkin ravioli was excellent. The chicken parmigiano was very good. Interesting to be served with mashed potatoes instead of pasta. There were lots and lots of wines to select from. Parking was available about a block away. Brought back memories of some of the wonderful San Francisco restaurants of the past.

Neighborhood gem with outstanding food and service

By Pat G |

We used TripAdvisor.com to find a good restaurant, but it turned out to be in a neighborhood we weren't comfortable visiting. After another visit to TripAdvisor.com we came up with Spiazzo. It's in a darling little neighborhood and it was a nice, quiet spot. Our server, Gabriella, was adorable and we had a great time visiting with her. The food was some of the best we had while we were visiting San Francisco. The service was great, too. We were still sitting at our table chatting when we realized that the restaurant was closing, but no one was trying to run us off -- they were just letting us enjoy our visit. We will definitely visit Spiazzo again!

Charming Italian restaurant in West Portal

By Grapesfan |

When we visit San Francisco, we usually stay in the downtown area. This was our first time in West Portal and we were pleasantly surprised. We had a Travelzoo voucher, which the restaurant had no problem accepting. The food was excellent. The veal in my Saltimbocca was tender and delicious, not a ground veal cutlet. My husband's lamb shank was flavorful and generously portioned, served on a bed of perfectly-prepared risotto. Our waiter was charming and attentive, and our water and wine glasses were kept filled during our unhurried meal. The restaurant is small but lovely, and is right near West Portal Muni Station. This might be the best way to get there, since parking is scarce (where in San Francisco isn’t it?!?). We will be back.

Excellent Local Restaurant

Staying with friends nearby, this is one of their regular choices. Excellent food and service at reasonable prices. Everything tasted fresh and arrived hot and nicely presented.

Delicious Cuisine, Lovely Ambiance & Wonderful Owner & Staff

By Susan L |

We love the warm kindness of Giuseppe Vivacqua (owner), friendly service staff, & delicious Italian cuisine: Bruschetta, Insalata Mista, Capellini al Pomodoro, Spaghetti alla Vongole, Scampi & Capesante (scallops), pepperoni pizza & tiramisu. * We celebrated our 30th Wedding Anniversary with friends & family at Spiazzo’s * 💕Susan & Joel 💕

never disappointed

By JimandCarla |

We usually write reviews of vacation stops. It gives a great pleasure to review our favorite restaurant for over 20 years. It's our neighborhood mainstay. The staff is superb. One thing to notice in a restaurant is staff turnover. At Spiazzo's, not much. If fact, Edwin, our lunch waiter, I believe began as a busboy. The food is superb. We have ordered practically the entire menu. Not the dessert menu, however, we are usually too full to even glance at it. Their dinner specials nearly always include a risotto. Always good. Well everything is. In San Francisco, there are hundreds upon hundreds of restaurants. Spiazzo's is not in the glamourpuss category. It just shines in West Portal. Oh, no small thing, you can have conversations there without shouting!

Neighborhood Italian restaurant

By BPenuliar2015 |

I've passed by this restaurant numerous times and this is the first time that we've had lunch here on a Saturday . We ordered the octopus salad (generous portion by the way ), the mushroom risotto (not bad- so hard to find good risotto) and the ravioli . The place was not packed so we had a table facing the window.

Friday Night Dinner with the kids

Bright and Cheery, wonderful service! Our waiter was fantastic! Food was very good, we will be back!

Quaint neighborhood Italian place

By Cord-69 |

Had dinner at this nice little Italian restaurant one evening while in West Portal. The complimentary bread was OK but not particularly interesting, and it comes with a cold tomato based dip. The wine list was reasonable, with several half bottles and single glasses (approx $9). The salad was very nice with large cannelloni beans and fresh Parmesan. I had the lasagne, which was rich and flavorful. My wife had the wild boar rigatoni. My kids had the pesto linguini and the capellini. We did not have room for desert. The service was friendly and fast.

Next Time the Lasagna

By SLL009 |

Warm and Friendly...and the food is good too. We shared a great salad, chicken marsala, pasta, bread, and wine. Everything was great. The restaurant was crowded, but cozy on a foggy San Francisco night. Diner next to us said that next time the lasagna bolognese is a MUST. We'd go back for sure.

Great Italian restaurant

By Roger A |

The food was excellent specially the lasagna best I ever had, chicken parmigiana, and spaghetti calamari was well prepared tasted fresh and delicious, the bread nothing special no sourdough. The prices are around 18 dollars per dish.

Delicious Dining

By Sarah Touchstone |

Spiazzo was my first choice to take my *bonus* daughter and my mom. They are one of the few neighborhood Italian restaurants that are open on Monday nights! We were warmly greeted and attended to promptly. They accommodated us by putting us in a quieter location. The food was exceptional. The menu is extensive and they have in-season specialties. We ordered salads and pasta. Each dish was exceptional. The Fresh-made pasta was perfect...al-dente, perfecto! Salads were generous and we were able to enjoy ourselves. And our server suggested panna cotta and they brought it with a birthday candle to honor our belated celebration of our daughter who lives in Sevilla. Service was professional and generous. My mom is still praising her meal there! We will be back! We highly recommend it.

Super service and food

By Gloria P |

Super find in West Portal Area. Lots of locals (good sign). Metered street parking even tight on a Sun. Service fast efficient and friendly. Food excellent and large portions. Shared Antipasto Misto mixed hors d oeuvres (huge enough for a meal for 2+). I had Scampi Lido 6 large prawns in garlic lemon sauce with carrot garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed veggie . Very tasty took home half. Hubby Grilled flank steak with balsamic sauce with carrot garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed veggies. (don't think he liked ha ha nothing to take home). Shared dessert crème brulee good. Unbelievable value with TravelZoo

Good Food, Consistent

By NancySF |

Went here for dinner the other night, again, with my husband. Service here is always friendly and good. Prices are average with portions of food average too. What we like is that we know what we are getting and it's always good. Saturday nights are very busy, so you need to go early or make a reservation. The portabello mushroom appetizer is enough for 2 and it's excellent. I have yet to have dessert here, but we have been told it is very good too. It's a lovely, little, neighborhood restaurant that we go to often.

Great Italian Neigborhood Restaurant!

By Chummy2242 |

We've been coming here several times during the last 6 months. Recommend it highly for their quality of food. The service can be little "off" if the place is really busy. But the food makes up for the it. One of the better Italians restaurants in San Francisco. Prices are reasonable and their daily specials are always a good choice. Only down side to this place is that parking can be challenging. Recommend you go early (before 6PM or after 8PM). Salute!!!

The Friendly Vibe has Changed

By amyslw2019 |

On a recent trip to San Francisco, I was disappointed to return to Spiazzo's and find the friendly personality of the restaurant changed. The food was still outstanding and the servers that were there were attentive and conscientious, but about half-way through dinner, a man arrived and glared at customers and servers alike, making me uncomfortable. I found out he is a new partner. Suddenly the "help wanted" signs in the window made sense, and it dawned on me that there were several empty tables, which was a change from my last visit, perhaps due to the attrition of some of the wonderful wait staff, and the less friendly atmosphere. I hope that Spiazzo can regain the light-hearted and warm vibe that it had-- the food is still delicious and the prices are reasonable.

West Portal Italian

This is my favorite neighborhood go to for Italian. The roasted chicken is amazing. Nice people too. Fabulous pasta menu as well.

Our last stop on a trip to San Francisco

By Vinopopos |

My husband and I love to stop on our way to the airport at Spiazzo Ristorante, for a wonderful home-cooked Italian meal and superb service. We always feel at home here. Our favorite dishes are the chicken parmesan, "rag" soup, and we love to try the pasta of the day.

Great food and service

By Donna G. |

The food was amazing and the service was too! We went there for New Year's eve dinner. It was very busy, but the service was still fantastic. The Lamb shops were delicious as was the lamb shank.

Good neighborhood Italian

By AMtripster |

Good and dependable neighborhood restaurant. Friendly staff, and reliable standard fare. You can get a table without too much wait. Well behaved kids and families welcomed.

Very good food and excellent service

By ams44 |

Went for Sunday evening dinner with friends. Had a lot of catching up to do and waitress was very low key and kept checking back with us but was not at all pushy specifically telling us to take our time. We ordered eventually. My wife wanted the trout special but wanted to ensure it was fully deboned. The waitress checked and to their credit, the chef indicated that there may be some small bones so my wife requested the salmon but the last portion had just been sold so she settled on a filet of fish (can’t remember the name). Our food came at a leisurely pace which was what we wanted. The pear salad was very good as were all the main courses. Again, the service was excellent.

Wonderful service, great regional Italian choices.

By Cosmopolitan899 |

The service is the best in this neighborhood eatery. Good wine list. Soo many choices, it is difficult to make up one's mind. Not rushed tho. Nice desserts.

Great Italian Food with Local Feel

By ToryStLouis |

We really enjoyed the food here and it was definitely a local's place. We're going back soon.

Friendly Italian Restaurant

By phylliso |

It is very quiet at lunchtime but the food is nice - Caesar Salad is good as is a frittata. We had dinner there as well and the pasta with clams was excellent. It is a family run business and a good place to bring kids as there is plenty on the menu to please. Dinner is busy and there is a good local trade which is very important when you are a bit off the tourist track. We will go again!

Excellent Neighborhhod Restaurant

By Steve T |

Someone on a tour recommened this restaurant and we were very pleased. The food was good and the service was excellent, as well. We tried the gnochio and it was yummy.

They keep adding to the menu

By Staidthere |

We had dinner with a friend at Spiazzo after an absence of 6 years. She loves the veal masala, and we tried their cannelloni with beef. We also had a glass of sweet wine and a Caprese salad that was delicious because it used slices of big juicy tomatoes and not cherry tomatoes. There are many booths for more private seating. Many customers have known the managers for decades, so the restaurant has an "old world" atmosphere of charm and tradition. The price was comparatively low. We feel that the value of location, setting, service, food and price at Spiazzo is excellent.

Delicious food, nice atmosphere, fine service

By Staidthere |

Spiazzo is one of those neighborhood restaurants that you consider a good "find" in San Francsico. It was not hard to find parking a few blocks away in the residential area. We highly recommend the sauteed pork loin in porcini mushroom cream sauce with vegetables. The pork flavor was well preserved, and the meat was tender. Our friend had penne and salmon which was also excellent. We had Limoncello and creme brulee for dessert. Of the two, we recommend the limoncello which was like a pastry. The restaurant was almost full when we arrived without a reservation at 7:30 pm,, but the three of us were given a booth. Generally the restaurant was not noisy. Service was prompt, attentive and helpful. The prices were very reasonable considering the atmosphere and quality of the food.

Excellent food

By AndyPaul74 |

We tried this restaurant on a recommendation from the tour we went on. It was not only a great neighborhood place, but we tried the gnocchi as someone recommended and it was the best!

neighborhood gem - italian style

By audrey r |

went for lunch and had a great seafood salad -- lots of fish items, calamari, shrimp, fish, clams, mussels. Quiet at at late lunch time of 1:00 -- but good for conversation with old friends -- leisurely and can hear the conversation. would go there again.

Great lunch

By Al S |

We all loved the lunch, service was excellent. I had penne pasta with Salmon. Came with peas in the sauce which they held out for me.

Delicious!

By JudgeJim777 |

We wanted Italian and we got authentic Italian. I had the Insalada di Mare which was as good as any I've had in Rome. The second course was Spaghetti ala Vongole which was delicious and served with an abundance of clams. We were a party of six and they were able to fit us in. Everyone raved about the quality of their meals. Service was first rate and friendly on Father's Day. Highly recommend.

How is this place still open for business?

By sfimporter |

This is the kind of place for diners who think large portions and a large menu equal a good restaurant. For the rest of us - walk on by. I haven't had this type of mediocre food in a restaurant in San Francisco in ages. It's the kind of establishment you'd see on Gordon Ramsey's show, where the first thing he does is cut the menu in half. Too many options all prepared to mediocre standards. Run away. Nothing tasted fresh - even my salad was sadly overdressed with gorgonzola dressing, yet it was still fairly tasteless. I've seen better food in nursing homes.

I expected much better from this great-looking restaurant

By 1SFOSO |

We joined friends on a Friday evening at this well-established West Portal restaurant and were looking forward to a great Italian dinner. The evening started out well with "STRACCIATELLA ALLA ROMANA" soup that was an ample and tasty portion. But the pasta dish, the "FETTUCCINE CON GAMBERONI", lacked any discerning flavor and only had 4 small prawns. I've never had a prawn pasta dish with less than 5 prawns, for the price the protein offering was more than a mite stingy. I chose for dessert cheesecake, which most restaurants provide as a triangular slice, much like a piece of pie. Not here. I was provided a small rectangular offering of a battered looking bit of pastry. Visually unappetizing, as the size and quality could have been enhanced. Wines were not inexpensive but tasted cheap. Overall? Meh.

One of Our Favorite Italian Restaurants

By rdrees |

This lovely neighborhood Italian joint is quite good. They offer bread with a special red sauce that is unique and tasty. The service is always good and the food is even better. If you are looking for Italian food in the West Portal neighborhood, this is the place to go. Highly recommended.

Really Nice Place

By X-MCI |

We like this small place and go there when in the West Portal area (or just in San Francisco). Very friendly atmosphere, fast service. You can go as a walk in - but really have a chance of standing in line - and not only on weekends. Eggplant starter is very good in my opinion, pizza al salmone is definitely a dish to my taste. And, if you have a birthday person - they have a nice treat for you :)

Decent pasta in West Portal

By Chartreuse |

The food here is OK. Some dishes are better than others. We came for Father's Day and at 6 PM, the place was already packed. We haven't been here in a while and altho' I recall the pizzas were good, we wanted pasta. Michelle, our waitress is a gem. She's very nice and friendly. We started off with the fried calamari appetizer to share, $19. It came with a spicy tomato dipping sauce. The calamari was mixed with fried vegetables and was good but didn't wow me. We each ordered a pasta. My clams vongole was in a watery tomato sauce, 12 good sized clams and was good but not fantastic. Hubby had the duck pasta and the flavor was good. The best tasting pasta was the venison ragout. The rigatoni was the smallest portion and was OK. It was enough food with the complimentary crunchy bread which reminded me of biscotti. A nice place for decent pasta in the neighborhood. The busboy kept our water glasses filled and cleaned our table of bread crumbs before our entrees arrived. It was a tad rushed at the end because I think they were in a hurry to clear the tables for the next customers.

Yummmm

Always a fabulous experience. The servers are lovely and helpful. When I leave, I have a simple feeling of joy.

Delizioso!

By Deenmachine |

This was our first time eating at Spiazzo. The location was great. It's on the main drag in West Portal. I had the spinach salad and veal saltimbocca. I'm picky having grown up in a traditional Italian family. The food was very flavorful. I think the pancetta used on the salad should have been cooked longer. It was poured on the spinach while warm and gave the spinach a nice wilt. The saltimbocca was "just like mama makes". Very tasty. I would have likes a little less cheese on it, however. We went on a Thursday night. I made a reservation, but I don't think it was necessary as there were other diners but it wasn't packed. Overall, a tasty experience with very attentive service. I would definitely return.

Solid, Dependable Neighborhood Gem

By kyriaelise |

My husband and I dined here on Halloween and sat by the window, watching all the costumed trick-or-treaters, young and old, go by! We brought our own wine and were charged $15 for corkage which is reasonable here in SF. We started out with wonderful homemade Italian white and wheat bread; it was so good that we took the leftover bread home! We then shared a spring mix salad topped with fresh pears, toasted walnuts, and gorgonzola dressing, and it was more than enough for both of us. For the main course, my husband had osso buco on a bed of risotto, and I had pappardelle with lamb. Both were incredibly rich in flavor and enormous in portion. For the price, the portions are double, if not triple, what you’d normally be served at a “foodie” restaurant, and the food is delicious! We couldn’t leave here without sharing a dessert. We normally get the tiramisu, which is excellent, but we decided to try something new—the zabaglione, which was refreshing, light, and very flavorful, and a great way to end the meal. My husband and I love this place! It's our go-to Italian restaurant when we want delicious food, huge portions, reasonable prices, and friendly and attentive service in a warm, welcoming, and cozy atmosphere. I highly recommend it!

Fantastic dinner

By sleepyhead8822 |

We stopped into the quiet neighborhood after a long day the convention center. My wife had the home made ravioli with cheese and chicken. She ate the entire plate which seldom happens. She throughly enjoyed her dinner. I had the Pork tenderloins, they came with mash potatoes and a nice light gravy. Absolutely wonderful. We then had wonderful deserts and the entire meal cost less than $70.00.

Very good food; excellent value!

By birdie57 |

We were looking for a restaurant who offered delivery. We looked through the menus in our rented condo, and based on that, chose Spiazzo. All six of us loved our meals, and nobody ordered the same thing. We went there three more times before we moved. I am on a very strict diet of little fat, and the server was very accommodating. Each time we came in, he remembered me and my diet. It is not a large restaurant, but it's very comfortable. The food is very, very good, and the prices are fair. Try it. You'll be happy you did!

A neighborhood jewel

By kripto222 |

Nice Italian restaurant with great service and prices easy on the wallet (for San Francisco) There is a great selection of entrees to please anyone's palate.

Surprising find in residential S.F.

By markcinnamonmd |

I am far from a "foodie," but I like a nice restaurant experience. While on vacation in S.F., and staying in a residential section of S.F., my wife and I found this delightful Italian restaurant in a section of S.F. called West Portal. It had a large menu, very nicely priced, with excellent and friendly service (ask for a wonderful waitress, Lupita). The food was delicious, indeed. We ate there 4 out of 6 nights in fact! If you can find it I would recommend it for very pleasant casual dinning.

Delicious Pasta!

By jenn-uae |

We went here with my 2 siblings and our mom. The area was packed but it was not obvious from outside because the blinds were down. The place was not that huge but good enough for meeting friends. There was a complimentary bread that was warm and soft. The drinking water was free. Our orders were Fetuccini Pesto, Spaghetti Clams and Spaghetti Seafood. The pasta were all good especially the seafood. Dessert was chocolate with ice cream. Also yummy. The portion was big so we split one order into 2, just need to add $1 for thr split. The prices range from $15-$20 for pasta and $21-$30 for main course. The desserts price ranges from $7-$10. Not bad. For the portion, taste and complimentary bread, it was a good restaurant and I can recommend it.

Been on the list, wish I hadnt waited so long

By FVStrona |

Great staff. Very well attended and gracious when we mentioned having tickets to the movies. Food was well prepared and portioned. The ravioli with walnut sauce and the gnocchi were top notch. I had the venison ragout and sampled the seafood risotto. Which both hit high marks. The fried calamari was fresh hot and not "fishy". Overall well worth checking out again and working my way through the menu

Spiazzo - a little bit of Italy

By LDGM |

In Italian Spiazzo means "patch" as in a patch of grass. While there is no outdoor accommodation here, the restaurant does manage to transport one away from the reality of West Portal Ave. It does so with good honest cooking, attentive service and sticking to basics. Particularly love the gnocchi and polenta with mushrooms and garlic. The daily specials are truly just that ....last trip had the lamb meatballs which were on the specials list and they were delicate in texture with a robust sauce. Winning combo. For the most part this restaurant is not frequented by tourists as West Portal is not on the tourist beat. No need to run to North Beach with Spiazzo close by.

lunch

By Jorge W |

we went there for a sea food restaurant just a few dishes of sea foof , for a lunch nothing special but the deco is for a daily resto , service , nice people but basic , very goog olive oil on every plate , but in excess , the apple tart nothin g to remember , and basically complete out of prices , comparing with fancy or creative or exotic restaurants , wine by glass sangiovese no big deal for 9.75)( too much)

A Nice Dinner

By Tommy L |

We had a delicious dinner and dining experience the Sunday after Thanksgiving at Spiazzo Ristorante. Our server, Cullen, was excellent. He provided helpful suggestions, which were indeed accurate. He was especially helpful with recommendations for me because of some dietary restrictions that I have, which was very much appreciated. My penne pasta portofino was delicious, made with a little creativity. I do not live in San Francisco but will definitely return for another visit when I am in town.

Just before we leave...

By Vinopopos |

It has become a tradition for my husband and I to visit this little neighborhood cafe on our way to the airport after our visits to San Francisco. It is just a little storefront, but welcome and an obvious desire of the proprietors to share good food awaits. This was true when we visited Saturday night. The hostess greeted us warmly as we arrived a bit earlier for our reservation. There was a crowd in the entrance, and even though she had to turn us away for the moment, she pointed to the Irish pub across the street where we could have a drink while we waited. When we returned, she thanked us for coming back and led us to one of their cozy tables where our waiter approached and spent a few moments telling us about the food and listened to,our questions. We shared a wonderful meal, as usual -- this time a generous serving of bruschetta, tomato and mushroom varieties; one of our favorite soups, the stratiatelli; a spinach and bacon salad; homemade pasta with shrimp and basil, and an outstanding mixed grill combining lamb and chicken in an unforgettable marinade. It had been three years since we visited San Francisco, and it was a memorable send-off for us. There are many delicious things to try, and we will enjoy some of them, as we always do, when we return next time.

AMAZING FOOD AND AMAZING SERVICE

By Lois |

Service and food here was absolutely excellent. Cooked fresh in front of you and full of amazing Flavours and spices. A completely authentic Italian meal but in San Francisco. Best meal I've had whilst here and would recommend to everyone visiting the area, it was also very reasonably priced.

Will Make This a Regular Stop

By Yog-Sothoth |

...if we succeed in moving to West Portal. In checking out the neighborhood, we had an early dinner here with friends on a Saturday. Happy we had made a res, as the place was full up! This is the kind of friendly neighborhood family restaurant that we miss from our days in Brooklyn. Would the cuisine win any awards? Maybe not - but the friendly service, pleasant surroundings and reasonable pricing should. We hope to become regulars here.

West Portal Gem

By Kyllito |

When asking for the best Italian and seafood around Portola Ave, Spiazzos is where Yelp brought me. Not only was this restaurant a great find, but I also discovered W Portal. What a great street of shops like what you would experience in the Rockridge neighborhood in Oakland. Spiazzos had a European feel making the most out of their space. On a Tuesday night, it was busy yet we didn't have to wIt for a table. The Scampi Lido and the Spaghetti with kalamatas and spinach were great. I wish I was a regular visitor to SF because I would be here all the time.

Excellent Italian Food

By CVogt |

The guide from a tour we were on recommended this restaurant. This is a definitely a local's restaurant and we could tell. Everything from the food to the service was excellent and they had lots of regulars. We'll be going back next thing we're in San Francisco.

Great little spot for Italian food

Best pizza I've had in a while ..quick friendly service tasty bread and a large menu. My son loved the margarita pizza and I had a tortellini with cream sauce and mushrooms very tasty ...price was ok in line with the surrounding establishments

Great Little Italian Ristorante!

By Ginri |

I have eaten a few times at Spiazzo Ristorante and I have to say that the service and the quality of the food has consistently been really good. I had gluten-free spaghetti with the calabrese sauce which was really delicious! I love the West Portal area and Italian food so this restaurant is a great combination of great food and location. They have some nice salads as well as pizza and various pasta dishes to choose from and they are reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend going to Spiazzo for a very good Italian meal.

A great neighborhood Italian restaurant

By BobD686 |

We recently dined here in this West Portal neighborhood restaurant with friends. We originally had planned to go to the Mexican restaurant across the street but it was closed on Monday so we ventured into Spiazzo. What a find. The food is authentic and very good. I enjoyed a Gorgonzola Pizza even though it wasn't on the menu and was made special. My wife had the seafood stew which is the closest thing to Chippino you can get. She raved and ate every bite and every drop of the wonderful broth. The service was excellent and prices quit reasonable ($75 per couple including wine and gratuities)

2nd Visit

By margaretan116 |

Visited this Restaurant twice with friends whilst in San Francisco and have to say it was consistently good Angel Hair Pasta with Prawns Scallops in white wine sauce was excellent along with the Veal and the Pizza was also very good Good service if maybe a little rushed at times Overall we enjoyed the food and as this was our friends local we were also quite impressed

Execellent Neighborhood Restaurant

By LauraSanM |

We got thie recommation for this restaurant while we were on a tour. The food was good and we really liked the neighborhood.

One of the few Italian restaurants at which I'll eat

By kelly b |

I'm not such a fan of American Italian food and its heaviness; Spiazzo is not nearly heavy as what is commonly found throughout America. It's closer (though still not there) to an authentic Italian taste. Service is always excellent. I've been eating here since 2005 and have always had a great experience. Also really enjoy the neighborhood as there are a number of interesting shops up and down the street if you want to do a little browsing.

really good everythng

We had really good food (all veg), wine (mostly red), and service (Erika is friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and fun) here with family. We had been here before, many years ago, but didn't return for unknown reasons. I'm so glad we finally did!

Worth the price

I came here on a whim with family members and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I felt that you got what you paid for; my portion was a huge amount that was almost too much but it was delicious. I feel like this place is underrated and I would highly recommend it!

A lovely neighborhood jewel

A lovely neighborhood jewel in west portal. I ordered one of the specials, with fresh pasta and tender lamb. I have been told their gluten free pasta is excellent, as well.

Good food

It is a nice place to have some good Italian food. Food is good. But the place is quite crowded and it gets cramped.

Try the vegetarian pizza -it's out of this world

By Ray C |

Family type dining with informal yet courteous service.half our party was vegetarian and that wasn't a problem with many options. The pizzas are all good as we sampled both the vegetarain and tri colore varieties. I had the pappardelle agnello that was a hearty lamb and noodle meal in a rich broth.

Excellent Food

Great local place. Host and server very friendly and efficient. Decent prices. Portions are plentiful. Risotto cooked perfectly with a lot of listed ingredients. Carpaccio was thin and flavorful. Squash ravioli were delicate with a rich sauce. Fresh ingredients served perfectly. Casual setting with a nice energy.

Yummy

For your average Italian restaurant this place is great. Everything came fast. Wine was incredible. The Ceaear salad nice and crispy. They need better bread to match the dipping sauce. The Tiramisu is in the top tier. Family liked their pastas and fish.

Spiazzo Ristorante

It had been many years since I had been to my local neighborhood Italian restaurant and decided to go after my wife requested Italian food. We went for lunch and were not disappointed. We were immediately seated so we started off with the appetizer Carpaccio di Manzo which is thinly sliced raw beef, shaved parmesan cheese, capers, arugula, and a thin coating of extra virgin olive oil with lemon wedges as an accompaniment. Excellent choice to start off a meal! Our main courses were Penne ala Campagnola which is a penne pasta, sun dried tomatoes, broccoli tips, and chicken breast in a white wine sauce. Our second main dish was Fettuccine con Gamberoni. It consisted of fresh homemade fettuccine, prawns, green onions, basil in a white wine fresh tomato garlic sauce with a touch of chili pepper. Both were excellent! If you're in the neighborhood of West Portal, you can't go wrong.

Fantastic Special

I've bee married for 28 years so we still celebrate anniversaries, but not in a high maintenance way. Went to Spiazzo, our neighborhood West Portal, for Friday Nite Anniversary dinner. The wonderful bread was their consistently and expectedly good. But I ordered the seafood pasta. Light sauce and FOUR large scallops and FOUR very large prawns. Pasta was fresh. Best I've ever had. Enough said!

Disapointing

Dinner for 5 - reservations in advance. When we arrived there was no set up and the put us in a booth and stuck an extra chair on the end. Expected better. Food was OK; service was very good. Too many other restaurants in the area to return.

Nice Valentines Day Meal

By Steve H |

After an exciting Valentine's Day in San Francisco, we went to Spiazzo Ristorante for an early dinner. This West Portal location is convenient and easier to park near than, for example, many North Beach Italian Restaurants. Although meters line the street, just a block or two north is plentiful free street parking — 2 hour limit before 6 PM, and unlimited after that. We were greeted warmly and efficiently, and we had a reservation since it was Valentine's Day. Service was very good; we didn't have to ask for more bread, drink refills, etc. The waiter watched out for us and anticipated our needs. I started with a Caesar Salad, which was fine but nothing spectacular. The dressing was just a bit off-putting, but the lettuce was fresh and crisp. But this was my only complaint with the food. I had the Scaloppine Piccatina, which was absolutely delicious. I love veal picatta, but I also love artichoke hearts. This dish combined my two loves together with tender veal, a flavorful sauce, and the capers and artichokes I so love. This was served with carrot mashed potatoes — an interesting and tasty twist on mashed potatoes — as well as vegetables, which were much more vibrant than just "steamed veggies." My wife chose a special of the day — an Alaskan salmon with a wine and mustard sauce — that is not on the standard menu. I like mustard on my sandwiches, but was not drawn to order this on my fish. But after she shared some of her fish with me, I found it absolutely delicious. The portions were generous, the background music was romantic Italian, and the ambiance was very pleasant. This was the second time we have eaten at this restaurant, and I would not hesitate to return again!

Best Italian Nearest Stonestown

My wife and I have enjoyed Spiazzo for over 20 years now and the place only gets better every visit whether lunch or dinner this owner run kitchen will not disappoint. Only issue is parking along West Portal Ave however the metered parking at the rear of Spiazzo will usually yeald a slot with a little patience. The lovingly prepared cuisine at Spiazzo is well worth the wait. Call ahead for reservations as this place is very popular with the locals 415.664.9511

Eccellente!

By TravelerGe3 |

We ordered takeout and the meal was hot, generous and delicious. I ordered the Pizza Napoletana ai frutti di mare. It was wonderful. The flavors had a party in my mouth and my mouth was very happy. The chef was generous with the amount of clams, mussels, shrimp, calamari, peppers and tomatoes. It was outstanding! We also ordered Penne all a Campagnola, Ravioli Naturale and an Insalata Etrusca. Everyone raved about how good their meal was. The salad was shared. If you are looking for Italian, Spiazzo Ristorante is an excellent choice.

Very good but not exceptional

By Lucie1866 |

My family and I like this restaurant, but we feel that their prices have increased quite a bit over the few years we've eaten there. The food is homey and traditional, but I have to say the sauces seem to be all similar for the pasta dishes as well as their fried calamari appetizer. Even the complimentary bread comes with a similar tomato based sauce. However, one may request oil and vinegar instead if one wishes. Wine prices are pretty astronomical for pretty average wines. The servers are all friendly and patient. One thing that irks is that during COVID-19 in requesting delivery one new staff member does not adhere to the mask wearing order. It's a health hazard as one has to sign one's credit card slip upon the deliveryperson's arrival with one's order. Another thing is that the packing of the delivered food is haphazardly done. Only twice have they packed orders with plastic film to prevent spillage. So a few other times we had near misses where the paper bag almost burst from the sauce that came out of the container. If that had happened a very expensive meal would've been splattered all over the floor. So just a bit of thought needs to be adhered to.

Big menu and tasty food
