Nice hidden gem

By Tjf4569 |

Amazing food. Came with my son who is a vegetarian. We both ate like kings and the bill was soooo reasonable. I made a note to text friends who come to town often to check this place out.

Too loud and average food

By strictlycarryon |

The busy atmosphere was nice initially but once we realized that it was so loud due to poor acoustics that we couldn't carry on a conversation, the experience turned sour. We all ordered different dishes and they were all adequate but nothing special. I would not go back...

Refreshing dining experience

By Robert D |

We enjoyed a pre-theater dinner at Spice 28. Arriving at 5:45, the only other patrons were at the bar. When we left the modern lit dining area was completely full. The meals are tastefully and artistically prepared. Service is attentive. The portions are generous and can be shared. I was pleased at the reasonable prices too. Four of us had soup, entrees, and desserts for $120 plus tax and tip. Spice 28 deserves a return trip.

Awesome!

By Amy P |

Best meal of our 4-day Philly trip! The Duck Crepes were awesome, as was the Shanghai Beef. There were so many interesting things on the menu. Will definitely return if in Philly again.

Creative Menu But Mediocre Experience

By curlyKar24 |

This restaurant was nice enough to let us enjoy the Restaurant Week menu on a saturday night. While the variety in here is wide and the choices were tough, the food turned out to be average. Our salads barely had enough dressing. The black pepper tuna was so over peppered, I could barely eat it. My boyfriend's Lamb dish was so spicy, he could barely eat it. And sadly, we did not see our server again after he took our order. We had high hopes for this and were overall letdown. Unfortunately I'm confident that we won't be returning to this location.

So so spice

By alliecat2842 |

The atmosphere is nice; the food average. The Tom yum was disappointing. Thin with chunks of pineapple. We ordered several veggie dishes. They were fine but nothing special. Some were pretty oily. Service was fairly inattentive. You are so close to Chinatown; head there for better and more interesting Asian dishes.

Nice little fusion restaurant bar

By EstaLala |

I entered the restaurant 20 min before they stopped serving lunch. I was greeted by a friendly server. The food was an interesting fusion. I ordered the Indian bread and wonton in spicy sauce as appetizers, and vegetable pad Thai with tom yum soup as main course. The bread was nothing like roti and curry sauce that came with the bread wasn't authentic, but I enjoyed it regardless.

Fine Asian Fusion right in Center City

By JoeKupe |

When we find a place that works we revisit it. So on a recent trip to Philly we ate here not once but twice! You may ask then why only four stars and the answer is on our second night the waitress seemed like she'd rather be anywhere but the restaurant at that time, and one dish was prepared wrong and took a while for it to come back right (we think they made it wrong again before getting it right!) but other than that the food was fabulous and we actually talked about going for a third night in a row. There were four of us and we each got something different both nights and were all very happy. The chicken in a "buttery" white sauce with asparagus was excellent, no it was not a butter sauce but the white sauce was so smooth it might as well have been! And to find asparagus on a featured dish is always a bonus. The noodle dishes were well received as were the many vegetarian options. If you are in Center City stop in and check out this restaurant, and don't be fooled by the small front window, the restaurant is quite deep and has a funky decor.

perfectly prepared asian fusion

By nhedde |

We got a quick bite there in November and it was so good we took the rest of the family. Service is fast and attentive. On our first trip we were in a hurry because we had to get to an exercise class. The server brought us lots of water to hydrate and brought everything quickly. Mango salad and Sesame noodles were excellent. Our next visit was the whole family for a complete meal. The 2 duck dishes were distinctly different from each other and both were well prepared. The seafood noodle dish was enormous and flavorful. The chicken mango was spicy and moist.

yum!

By jenchan000 |

i really enjoyed this restaurant. i am not usually a fan of asian "fusion" but, spice 28 was great. we order the sautéed spinach with garlic, chicken satay, blue crab salad and dry pot style shrimp. the shrimp and spinach were very very good and i intend to go back and re-order these dishes.

Not your average Asian Restaurant

By winewomantravel |

On my recent trip to Philadelphia for a conference, the concierge at my hotel recommended this restaurant to me and it turned out to be a GREAT suggestion. As noted by another diner, this restaurant has a very cool interior with a cool modern spin on Pan- Asian food. It was very busy on the first night we went (yes, we went twice during our 7 day stay) but we were seated quickly, had a lovely server who helped us and who brought us our meal quickly. We enjoyed our entire meal, but the Soy ginger Wok Asian Greens made me swoon. We had to go back a 2nd time so I could have that again as well as try a couple of different dishes. If you are a beef eater, try the Saigon Beef. The owner told us he is opening a restaurant in Boston soon. I can hardly wait! If you are in Philadelphia, this little restaurant is worth finding!

The dry pepper chicken was excellent, and so were the chicken dumplings. Takeout took about 2 hours to arrive at my hotel, but the food was worth it.

Hip casual asian fusion eatery in trendy philadelphia (center city)

By jodhpur00 |

Lukcily we did open table to get a table for 6 on busy sat nite.Had to wait but they were polite and tried level best to seat us. While waiting there is a icy cool bar area which spills onto the street - with interesting cocktails! Food was good; variety plentiful esp. to include vegetarians.

Average

By Greg |

Chicken Satay and Duck Salad Both meals were very tasty. Salad was pretty awesome actually. Service wasn't great. Had to wait around for a glass. Main came out while my starter hadn't been cleared and then I wasn't offered clean cutlery. I would still revisit as the staff were polite and the food was good.

Tasty food and great cocktails

By Walkercssj |

Went with a group of 4 - had their specialty cocktails, appetizers and dinner. Everything was great. They had a happy hour with 1/2 off appetizers. Spring roll were great. One in our group was vegan and she was happy with everything. I had sea bass which was a big portion and tasted wonderful. The curry was delicious. I don't think there is anything on the menu a person wouldn't love. Plus - the great cocktails made everything better!

Very good Sichuan cuisine in Center City

By EmFLoge33 |

Restaurant is conveniently located for Center City visitors and office workers, so it gets very busy at lunch and dinner hours. Service is proficient and friendly. Prices are very reasonable, given the quality of the Sichuan (and Thai) dishes. The chefs use good ingredients and never overdo the spicy seasonings. Lunch Specials, offering a good variety of tasty food at low prices, are highly recommended.

Solid, fresh, delicious, flavorful

By rangers93-94 |

Very happy with the selection. Food was hot and fresh. Everyone at the table was satisfied. Perfect business lunch.

Very disappointing

By Ralphs |

I ordered chicken satay, Thai crispy calamari, and spinach sauteed in garlic and oil. Overall, the food was terrible. The chicken satay was coated with something that was very under cooked. The spinach was floating in oil and was very tough to chew (they included all the stems instead of just the leaves). The calamari was bland even with the dipping sauce.

Best Three Pepper Chicken I ever tasted.

By Stranger D |

This restaurant has some of the best Three Pepper Chicken. The drinks we ordered had a nice cold taste to it. One thing I am confused about is the reviews for the restaurant. There were a lot of bad review about the food service. When I visited this restaurant there was great food service and the waiter was nice and patient.

Good food and atmosphere

By MerryMary08 |

Went Saturday night and enjoyed it very much. The food was flavorful! Ordered Mee Siam noodles with shrimp and they were great! Wanted a light dish after having a big cheesesteak for lunch and this was a great choice. Husband got drunken noodles with chicken which were also very good. Nothing was too spicy but had a great balance of flavoring.

Awesome Szechuan

By Michael_Corey77 |

The Szechuan selection is outstanding. There was a dry pot style I had never had before. It was quite good. The food was served fast and fresh. There was lots to choose from. It was very authentic.

Happy, Happy Hour

By markmmb |

My wife and I stopped here just for the happy hour as it was close to our hotel. We like trying all types of asian foods and and my wife heard it was worthwhile , so we stopped by just for happy hour. We were the only ones when we arrived around 5 pm, early for philly, but that that always makes me a a little leary... but I was happily wrong this time, We wantetd to try all the happy hour priced apps( which are just at the bar ). so we started with the wontons in chili oil... they were excellent, we almost got a second order but wanted to mix it up. we then tried the chicken satay and the chicken was moist and tasty. I thought the peanut sauce could use little more spice, creaminess, and peanut flavor but was satisfactory. Ordered the chicken wraps and the chicken was plentiful and moist with a good flavor, wish it had been a little more spice even though we ordered the spicy version, We asked for some hot sauce, and our bartender quickly came back with their chili oil which is delicous and also sirachi, both. We got an order of tuna dumplings and enjoyed the sweet chili sauce & the touchj of guacomole was a nice addition accompanying them. The ground tuna was moist even though was cooked totally thru, ( wasn't sure if it would come slightly under-done or not but ordered them anyways. Wished an order was larger but we ordered a second one. We decided to stay past happy hour and enjoy a few of the items from the dinner menu. My wife loved the pad thai, which was very good, the szechaun green beans were cruncy with a bit of spicy pork mixed in and Being a lover of pork belly, I got the pork belly in in garlic chili oil, even though it was on the cold app menu. It was GREAT!... slightly warm and the sauce was delicious, and the amount given was generous in my opinion. I will be going back to spice 28 just for that. The service was attentive at the bar and food came out to us at a nice pace, even though they did only 4 tables the whole time we were there, I did notice alot of take out being picked up. We will be going back again to try some other items, as well as that pork belly, YUM. Give them a try.

Loved it so much I went 2x in 4 days!

By PalmSpringsCA |

I had such a great experience the first time I went that I brought another group of colleagues two days later on a four-day trip to Philly! It was worth the 2nd time back as well!! So I had an 8 PM reservation on Friday nite and showed up a bit before 7 to sample the Happy Hour. Boy was THAT a good move. Make sure you get to the Happy Hour- they make fantastic drinks for $6 a pop and have an excellent array of appetizer choices...We enjoyed our first round of apps so much we went for a 2nd (Duck crepes and Chili oil Dumplings). I could eat those dumplings all day long in that chili oil! The bartender (really tall 1/2 Jewish guy) was very friendly and made great drinks with a sense of humor. The bar in itself is also really cool. The restaurant itself is awesome looking! It almost looks sci-fi-like or I dunno, ultra mod and sleek. Tables are comfortable and the menu is comprehensive without being overwhelming and really well-priced! Our group ordered an array of dishes the first time here as well as the 2nd time. All was good (Pad Thai was the weakest but still decent). I feel like Spice 28 offers excellent value for your dollar at a trendy place with great food and even better service (each server was amazing, I might add- younger Asian woman with glasses and a younger white woman, tall with long brown hair I think going to grad school). They made the experience excellent! Definitely will come back here when I am in town!

Reasonably Price Thai Food

By joanz359 |

I worked around the corner so I went Spice on a weekly basis and still meet friends there for lunch. I can understand the complaints about service, sometimes it is slow and a request that varies slightly from the menu creates chaos. I don't understand the low ratings for food, maybe I don't have a sophisticated Asian palate. Come on people where do you get lunch special with a salad or soup and a main course for less than $12.00 in a major city? I have rarely had dinner and drinks at night. The acoustics are not good and it is not a place to easily converse. You can vary the spice and I always get the hottest so there is something for everyone you likes Thai food. Everyone likes the pineapple fried rice and the Pad Thai.

Girls weekend in philadelphia

By Lisa B |

What a HUGE SURPRISE. Spice 28 serves the best asian fusion meals I have ever had. I travel around the world and Spice 18 is in my top 5. The food service and restaurant are all top notch.

If you like Asian Fusion

By C M |

I can't say enough good things about this Asian Fusion spot. The lettuce wraps are addictive, the staff is attentive and friendly, the prices are reasonable. Everyone we've introduced to this place loves it!

Overpriced, overcrowded, not impressed at all

By redhottdiva |

Went on a Saturday night. Had pre arranged a table for a birthday. Got there and table wasn't ready. Minus the driving in traffic trying to find parking, and standing waiting in this little restaurant, I was already annoyed. Once seated, I felt rushed to order. The server came over 3 times to ask if we were ready. I told her the drink I wanted and she just walked away?? Whatever..we finally ordered and the appetizers were bite size! There were about 5 calamari in an order, it was beyond disappointing. Finally got our dinner and it was blah. They messed up a few of the rices and had no clue who got what. I had some shrimp with mango which the mango was not ripe. We had a cake brought in and they put plates out before the cake, so it obviously spoiled the suprise! They must not have coffee because they didn't ask if we wanted any, or any more drinks at that. They add gratuity on I guess parties of 6 or more which I would of said not a chance was I tipping $60! Don't waste your money...it's not worth it and you will leave hungry looking for McDonald's! Service was awful, food was awful, atmosphere was awful...

Good food, but cramped and noisy

By R O |

Menu features a nice variety of 'Asian-fusion' dishes. Everything we tried was good. Especially liked the dumpling appetizer and the champagne duck. Tables are very close together and they seat lots of people at each table. Very cramped and noisy. Also a little on the pricey side.

Good solo too

By PhilipL4 |

Read the other reviews about the nice friendly atmosphere. It was the same for a solo traveler as well. Staff was friendly and the food was very good.

Finally found Great Calamari!!!!

By Gayle S |

My husband and I tried Spice 28 during restaurant week and we are glad we did! The service was excellent and our waiter was very informative about the dishes. The Thai calamari was so tender and lightly breaded with the best sauce and the pot stickers were amazing! We were so full after the first 3 courses that we declined dessert. Our waiter insisted that we take the two cream puffs home and the next day we sampled them and were in dessert heaven! So flakey and wonderfully lightly sweet. Great wine prices too. Best of all we learned that they deliver to our area and are planning on enjoying more great meals from Spice 28!

Excellent value for money

By Hungryghost7 |

We landed on Christmas night looking a place to eat and this was the only place open. Lucky us because we found excellent food at very reasonable prices all of 13th street. Highly recommended is the spicy eggplant and Thai basil rice.

So So place

By Christopher T |

I was hoping for a great Thai experience and left disappointed. Service was slow. I ordered Tom yum soup and Pad Thai. The soup had some nice elements included but was bland as compared to other than places. I ordered the pad thai HOT in terms of spiciness...the meal was not spicy at all. It tasted fine but the spice wasn't there. It was an OK visit but not one where I'd ever want to visit again.

Great

By Skywalker102014 |

Asked the concierge@ the marriott for a suggestion for dinner that was nearby, inexpensive, casual, good, quick and Real food, not fast food. Wow, i was so pleasantly surprised to find every one of my criteria was met at Spices28. Service was excellent, fast, food was excellently prepared and presented, very affordable casual but not cheap and quality, including a full bar. Very good dining experience in every way.

Delicious

By Tammy R |

My husband and I are Thai food fans and this family-owned, family-run restaurant located in a great downtown location walkable from many hotels didn't disappoint. Brown rice (yes!), generous portions, reasonably priced, nice atmosphere and attentive staff. Highly recommend for fish, meat and vegetarian palettes.

Great Dinner place

By jsajmd |

This is a must do if you like Asian food. The space is decorated in a fun and interesting way. The energy is great. Get a reservation because there are lines out the door. The portions are large. The prices are very reasonable. Best of all the food is fabulous!

Nice combo or traditional and american style fusion asian. Good service and cool vibe.

By Edward W |

Birthday dinner here for 12. Waitress was a sweet heart. She wanted to take a photo with me for some reason, and I obliged because she was awesome. Shots for the table on the house afterwards.

Great food...slow service.

By kimberly s |

The food was delicious. No complaints at all. Everything we got to include appetizers and soup were very flavorful and very large portions. Service could have been better. Not many folks there and we has to wait awhile for drinks and check. Soup came right away. Would go back for the food if not in a rush.

Food good, but worst service I ever experienced.

By seetheworldb4ureyes |

After telling the waitress we were ready to order, she took 15 min to come back to the table to take our order. She was in the bar area making drinks and knew we were ready but continued to ignore us. I had to yell to her if she was still our waiter which she ignored and when she finally came over to the table she rudely said "what do you want"? My mouth dropped! I have never been asked What do I want that way not even at mcDonalds. I wanted to walk out but we already wasted enough time. The owner noticed and started to serve us instead and at that point things turned around. The wonton soup was very good, the Indian bread was just ok, spring rolls were nasty, Thai rice good, and mango shrimp was excellent. Gingerale was very good too for whatever reason. So overall this place has some good dishes and some bad but the service left a bad taste in my mouth most of all. I would not return!

Hello? Anybody work here?

By Richard01060 |

Visiting Philadelphia with a friend. After being seated right away, the staff seemed to forget we were there. Appetizer finally served. No setup until I asked. No service until someone bussing a nearby table noticed we may have a problem. Didn't get anyone to come over. Then I got up to ask the host what happened. Another waiter came by to take our order. We already gave the order to our original waiter. Had to ask for more water. Had to stack the appetizer plates to give anyone the idea they needed to go. I had mango shrimp which was supposed to be a vegetable and mango shrimp combo. There was about 4 small chopped green pepper pieces. A ton of mango and a few shrimp with tail on. We were asked if ever was ok and went through the litany of errors. They took 25% off the bill which was about 75% too little in my opinion.

Nice Place for Dinner or After Work Happy Hour

By Mei C |

Nice selection of happy hour drinks and appetizers. Nice variety of menu selections too. Good service.

Excellent Asian Cuisine - resembles Thai

By Tradition_rider |

My wife and I went to Spice 28 during a recent trip to Philadelphia. Spice 28 has an excellent menu and great food. Although not specifically Thai, the food has more Thai flavors than others. Ask your server for some of their unique red chili oil. It's made in house and the most unique red chili oil you will ever taste. That is if you like spicy foods.

So good! Do Happy Hour for sure

By smokeater55 |

Walking from hotel 6 blocks away we did pass an assortment of homeless but they were harmless. Once inside, the place is so warm and yet very cool due to the swell lighting. Be sure to show up for Happy Hour weekdays from 5 to 7 PM. The drinks and some food are a REAL good deal! This let us get our meal started at a much lower cost. Allow me to suggest Dumplings in Chili Oil (we got two orders), Peking Duck Crepe, Ahi Tuna Dumplings, Chicken Lettuce Wraps (the lettuce for wrapping was not so swell but the chicken was so way above average, I just forgot the lettuce). For drinks I had a Dragon Nectar, a little sweet for me but this was sooo good I think I had about 4; good thing we were walking. On the non-happy hour menu, pork belly w/ garlic in chili was very good; the Roasted Duck Salad was one item I'd skip, they are good on so many other dishes, I don't understand why this one is a miss, just skip it. Service was outstanding and when I'm sure we had some other items, the Dragon Nectar may have caused me to miss the details.... One last point, the next night we went to Buddakan and spent a lot more cash and did not enjoy it as much. Spice 28 is a great deal, good food and wonderful experience.

Experienced Hurtful Racial Bias;(

By Tye G |

Went to pick up my lunch order, decided to eat there instead. I was the only patron seated eating food. There was a man who kept walking past my table watching me with a strange smirk on his face. After about the 5th time of him walking by my table, I asked for soy sauce, he agreed to bring me some. I said thanks kindly. He proceeded to walk by a few more times staring at me eat, he then laughed and asked me, "DO I NEED HOT SAUCE TOO"---in mid-bite, I looked up, confused by what I heard and said "excuse me, what did you say?!" He repeated his question, I said, "no, why are you asking me that?!" The waiter said, Ooh, I just thought you would want some" I immediately packed up food, and asked to speak to the manager. The manager had just stepped out, so I spoke to his daughter. She took me in the bathroom for privacy, at which time, I had starting crying from the hurt that was just displayed. I proceeded to tell her what happened, she wasn't soo surprised, and kept nodding her head as if this was all too familiar. She then continued to tell me that this isn't the first time someone has complained and that he always targets African American patrons with inappropriate words or phrases!!!!!! I was soo taken back by that statement. I was literally speechless. I asked why was he even still employed there?! The owners daughter proceeded to tell me she would speak to the owner and see what steps they would take and she would get back to me that day!! ---well that was 2 days ago and not one call or text; ( Soooo many wrongs not being made right in this situation. The main question is, how can the employee a job given the facts.!!! When will the RACISM END!!!!!

Yum, for sure

By Camalia |

We went to Spice 28 on the recommendation of the hotel managers at the Rodeway Inn. The food was absolutely delicious. We had the miso and Tom Yum Soup, Thai calamari, and pineapple rice with shrimp. The seafood was fresh and the flavors spot on. The japanese mint mojito and leichi martini were both well balanced and a great accompaniment to our meal. Our server was also outstanding, and despite the busy Friday night we didn't feel rushed. The biggest disappointment was desert. The deserts are not made in house and in my opinion have no relevance or relation to a predominantly Thai menu.

a midtown gem

By Devin Z |

We love this place. For just drinks, a snack, or a meal you can't go wrong. I've tried several of the Thai soups, dishes and none disappoint. The food is reasonably priced, cocktails are a bit pricey but complex and the bar staff is skilled. This is one of those places I love introducing to people.

Mixed

By Dane C |

The place is fairly crowded and quite loud and understaffed (for instance, at one point it took at least 15 minutes to get a second can of a beer that I'd already ordered once). The dumplings in chili oil were superb. The Thai spring rolls were not; pass on those next time! The spicy beef and tripe is good, if you like tripe. The Wok stir-fried Thai basil was utterly ordinary.

Good food and convenient to City sights

By Alan K |

If you're looking for authentic Asian fare you may want to try somewhere else, but that being said, the food, service and decor were good. For Asian food the prices were on the high side but in line with center city restaurants

Central Downtown, excellent food

By Dave T |

Found this via Tripadvisor and the menu was great, lovely fresh food, great value and good sized portions. We ate fairly early, about 6.30 and the place was already busy so reservations may be needed if you eat later at night. Good vegetarian menu was a bonus for me

Great Service; Huge portions

By Joshua C |

They told us it would be a 15 min wait, it took 2. Happy hour had ended a minute prior, but the manager still gave us the HH prices and checked in to see how our meal was progressing and made recommendations. We felt like special guests, but the service here seems like everyone gets treated very well. The portions were huge! I have not been to an Asian fusion restaurant that gave out these big portions. The three of us enjoyed our meals and the drinks were strong. The location is perfect for both local workers, neighborhood people and visitors to the convention center.

Authentic experience

By Lsbtravel1 |

The same owners as a Chinatown restaurant , this is more upscale and has very attractive decor. Service is always efficient and friendly and very good menu specializing in spicy cuisine

Lovely

By matthew n |

Proper Thai cuisine in a setting that felt like being in a local Thai restaurant, not in Thailand, but in Europe - The decor and lighting, casual yet modern, resembled a London or Paris dining venue - The service was fantastically American, making the experience even better - Waiters were attentive, courses not rushed - Food was spot on - Appetizers were equally good - My compliments -

Great little find

By DentoDiner |

The outside isn't much to look at, but the inside was surprisingly attractive. The menu is fairly typical Thai. The presentation was appealing, and the wait staff knowledgeable and helpful. Everything we ordered was delicious.

Wide menu and reasonable price for an upscale feel restaurant.

By Karen S |

We had a group of 12 and everyone was happy with the food they ordered. Located near lots of shopping and nightlife, this is a nice little restaurant featuring fusion cuisine. Spice 28 would be great for a date night or friends night. When the weather is nice, they open the front of the restaurant for an al fresco experience. Fun night! Get reservations if you can.

Authentic high-quality Sichuan cuisine!

By Al B |

This is a wonderful Chinese restaurant, our favorite in Philadelphia. Sichuan dishes are authentic, tasty, come in generous portions and are quite reasonable in price. The eatery's design is unique -- the front windows open up fully in good weather, allowing outside ventilation in ( a definite asset in the pandemic!) The food quality is invariably consistent, even when one takes out the meal.

Cool modern interior, cool modern Asian food.

By Jennifer H |

I was in Philadelphia for a conference and part of the fun is getting out and exploring new places. No one in my group was feeling up for a night of wandering about. I found Spice 28 well-reviewed on several sites. First, not every restaurant is OK with single diners. Lots say they are but really aren't. Spice 28 sat me at a nice table in the middle of the dining area which was nice. I was attended to appropriately but wasn't made to feel uncomfortable or anything like that. I asked the waitress for her favorites and she did quite well. I ordered the mid-level sake (can't remember what is was called), the Ahi Tuna appetizers (YUM- the guacamole is a nice touch) and the chicken and tofu hot pot. It's a huge portion, be forewarned. I wish I could have gone back to try their other dishes and bring my friends but alas, the week was too short.

Nice new place

By EB0109 |

This place is new and the decor is lovely. I ate at the bar during happy hour where they have discounted appetisers and cocktails. All were very good and the staff were friendly and very helpful. Would definitely return for a proper meal.

Superior food

By bluetigers |

Modem looking place with staple Thai items along with a few unusual choices. As others have noted, the staff does not speak great English so you better double check your order. What stands out tough is excellent food nicely spiced and well presented.

Awesome food reasonably priced !

By Lori M |

The Wonton Soup is excellent and can be shared! Had the chicken Thai pan and it was amazing! The bartender takes pride in his “concoctions” and is willing to experiment if you have an idea. Had the philly love martini and it was excellent! The bar and restaurant have a nice vibe and is a great deal is you want to eat in Center City! Check out the happy hour as the drinks are just as strong for a discounted price!

What NOT to order

By joyce |

I’m trying to eat healthy so I ordered The Edamame and they were slightly overcooked but didn’t think much about it until my Tuna appetizer came out overcooked(slightly pink in the center mostly tan)so they kindly changed that and brought the Salmon. The waitress specified medium. Mind you, there are only 7 people dining(we were 4 of those) The service was SOOOO SLOW. Finally, the 1/8” salmon steak arrives looking like it was pressed, dry as a bone. I asked for the manager was told he was not In but the owner was downstairs. He never showed his face at all. Waitress was apologetic but they didn’t offer to take it off the bill. I will say that the other diners had General Tso chicken which is not on the menu but was delicious and the Seabass with shrimp which was lovely. Moral of the story don’t eat healthy order one of their Gooey Asian fusion dishes

Love this restaurant!

By Katy U |

We walked by this place on our first night in Philadelphia and so glad we did! It was our absolutely favorite restaurant, we even went again right before our flight back to Texas! The bartender was so nice, and the food was amazing! We will definitely be back next time we are in town.

Good Atmosphere, Great Service, Excellent food

By conradstx |

More like a boutique-ish PF-Changs! But with better service and more authentic flavors. Would like to give it five stars but the price and quantity for the price got me to take one star off. Left feeling satisfied taste-wise by like I needed to supplement my lunch. Will go back for sure but when I am not looking for a big lunch.

Asian fusion in unique environment

By ITfoodie |

This restaurant is an ultra modern design attracted our attention. we had dinner on a Friday evening. Were seated promptly and well attended to by the staff. The food was good but not out standing. the Pad Thai was just average and did not have that smoky quality it should have. tried the creme brulee which was a surprise to see on the menu. While the desert was well presented it was frozen inside.

Not Coming Back

By Farid K |

Food was OK, but had terrible service. We had to wait an hour when we had reservations, service was slow, and then they were running out of food and subbing without letting us know beforehand what we were going to get.

Great Asian

By webbervee |

Once again the near me now feature from Trip Advisor really proved useful. This was the only way I found Spice 28. From the outside, I was less than wowed. Upon walking in, I was pleased to find an eclectic spot with great music playing overhead. The lemongrass soup was outstanding. My colleague gave the Pad Thai a great review. My shrimp and corn dish was tasty. Desert was awesome; I had the mango with white chocolate covered bomba. Yum. If you want a great selection of creative Asian food, stop here... so glad I did!

Asian fusion in philly

By jetboy1999 |

Went to spice 28 while in philly for the odunde festival, happened to pass by this place and decided to check it out. Food was good, I had the salmon and it was cooked perfect. Drinks were good and they had a good mix of foods on the menu, chicken, fish and lamb. I will definitely go back when I am in philly again.

Popular Asian Restaurant on the Chestnut Street

By beadknitter |

Luckily I had a reservation for this popular restaurant , although the service is so experienced , I noticed new patrons seated quickly . Tasting the food I could understand the reason for the popularity . The menu is varied and includes Chinese , Thai , and Indian food . I started with a delicious cup of Wonton soup. The wonton were light and tender and the addition of greens was delicious . I had Pad Tai and my partner had a noodle dish. Both dishes were eaten to the last morsel . There were so many appealing dishes on the menu , I am certain to return .

Thai cuisine. Service was average. Out waitress seemed arrogant. Did not speak very much to us and infrequently came by. I thought the portions were average size and the price seemed a little bit higher than one would expect for Asian cuisine. I think there are many competitive places within three square blocks of here.

Very inconsistent and slow

By Jamie Rose |

This place was highly under staffed. We were a group of 30 people. It took 30 minutes to get a drink. My food was cold. Numerous orders were wrong. Some people's food took over an hour to come out. Most staff had bad attitudes

Great ambiance

We went to an event at Spice 28 so I can't comment on it as a restaurant per se, but the space is amazing, the wine choices terrific, and the special cocktails very well made. The food that we had--white bean humus, etc--were great. I would go back for meal.

Not bad but not quite sure about it

By RayKawa |

We were there on a Saturday night and were seated fairly quickly. The waitress didn't ask us all for a drink first but asked if we were ready to order very shortly after we sat down. My wife ordered a wine but she never asked if I wanted a drink. We ordered appetizers and dinner and I ordered a drink. The whole time we felt a little rushed. Our food was not bad but I felt it was a little skimpy on the meat portions. It seemed to us that many people come here to eat and leave quickly? Does not seem like a place to hang out. The other thing that was a little distracting was that they very noisily cleared the tables and dragged a large trash can behind us while we were eating. I don't care about this if I am at a place in Chinatown that is not too fancy but really? The food is good but if you want a place to hang go to Raw sushi and sake lounge.

Don't miss this place!

By PatriceGSC |

Chose four "Hot Small Plates" & each was outstanding. Fabulous medley of flavors, attractively displayed, arrived hot! and service was wonderful. Concierge at hotel recommended this restaurant when we asked for Asian food recommendation. Clean, contemporary environment. Perfect meal.

I think not

By pyatachok |

Many reviews I've read about this place talk about "potential" to be a great place, but until their staff changes the attitude to their work it will not happen. We came for lunch. The place was empty with 2 waiters on duty but we still we made to wait to be greeted. The ambiance was modern and nice but the floor was sticky all over from the spilled and dried up wine and the bathrooms could use some cleaning too. The service was slow, inattentive and forgetful and even when we point out on the puddle around our table there was nothing done about it and even not offered another table. The food was hit or miss and lukewarm, the price was quite high for what you get. So I guess with that attitude this restaurant will be temporary solution for that rental space.

Tasty and extensive

By Lisa H |

We were a party of 6 during Restaurant Week and it was a good meal. Everyone enjoyed their selections from the EXTENSIVE Restaurant Week menu and everyone especially enjoyed their cocktails with different flavors consisting of lychee, basil, passion fruit, etc. The bar service was done by our food waiter so there was a delay at times - not sure why there was no bartender as our waiter seemed to get a bit stressed but he did fine. We had a choice of soup/salad, appetizer, main entree and dessert. The food was very good and came out quickly enough for a large party. Some items could have been hotter but that may have occurred due to the fact that they tried to serve us all at one time... The sake vinaigrette on my salad was absolutely delicious - I could have licked the plate. The Indian pancake was just so-so. The shrimp in mango sauce was WONDERFUL - I ate every bit of it. Others raved over their ahi tuna dumplings, beef satay and lamb dish. We were a bit puzzled by the italian desserts that were offered - while they were tasty, they were just frozen desserts... Where's the red bean or green tea ice cream? The desserts just didn't fit. We ate what we wanted and then went around the corner to Barbuzzo and got Salted Caramel Budino's to go.... :-)

Good Veggie options.

Delicious food and friendly staff.this place has good veg option. Must try this place if you love thai food. Good Thai tea and soups.

Great food but high decibel level

By DCSVPE |

Arrived about 6 pm and the place was already getting full. Really enjoyed the well prepared food with generous portions. Lots of wait staff running around helping each other out, but totally forgot to bring my drink order. The place was dark and very, very noisy. Design of the restaurant probably amplified the sound because it seemed that if you wanted to carry on a conversation you had to shout louder than the people around you. Enjoyed the food but not the headache from the shouting. So had to drop it down a notch.

The simple and welcoming ambiance were among the best features. The price was fair, the drinks were well made and the food was palatable. It would be difficult and unfair to cite anything especially exceptional or unpleasant about our experience. You'll get a good drink and a palatable meal on clean flatware. If you like asian cuisine, give it a shot.

Filling, tasty lunch special

By MomRocco |

I took advantage of the lunch special ($20) and had a wonderful meal. Started with won ton soup, then had pork pot stickers, then shrimp pad thai, and finished with carrot cake. Each course was delicious and I was concerned that I might go into a food coma, but I did not. Nicely decorated and very clean with attentive staff. I would definitely return.

Very Good Asian Dishes

By Jonathan R |

We tried Spice 28 for dinner during a recent overnight trip to Philadelphia. My Tokyo Sidecar cocktail is a clear reflection of the Asian-fusion orientation of the menu — Courvoisier and Cointreau, but with “Yuzu” (a Japanese citrus instead of lemon juice) — and was well-made. My wife’s miso soup was very good, and my wonton soup (with very large wontons and pork) was the best wonton soup I’ve ever had. For entrees, I had salt and pepper shrimp with extra spice, and my wife had yellow curry chicken. My dish was an ample serving, seasoned just right; my wife liked the flavor of her dish, but thought the chicken a little rubbery in texture. Overall, we liked Spice 28 for the decor, quality, and prices, and thought the service was efficient and pleasant.

Good food and service

By hopsy |

Very tasty but nothing new or different. They will make food as spicy as one wants. Tried some desserts and they were all very good. Service was very good. Good Ethnic choice and convenient location to many of the big hotels in the convention center area.

Sumptuous Thai

By ChiefRQ |

Had an absolutely sumptuous dinner here with the wife last night. The food was mouth-watering, probably the best Thai food I've ever had. I had "drunken noodles" (ordered with. Out hot peppers) and my wife had Pineapple Fried Rice with shrimp. The portions were generous and Service was very good. The food was also delivered to our table promptly; it was a Sunday night and not extremely busy (hopefully it's always this good). This is my new favorite Thai restaurant in Philadelphia. I definitely rate this 5-stars and can't wait to return. Highly recommended+++

Fresh Asian food with great cocktails

By christinamarie216 |

Went to dinner at Spice with friends last night and we had a wonderful dinner. We started with cocktails and they were delicious- the lychee martini, shoshijito, and Thai ginger coconut bombs. We took our servers suggestion of the ahi tuna dumplings and Indian pancakes as appetizers and also started with pork dumplings and the mango salad. We never tried Indian pancakes before and they were so glad we gave them a shot- we loved them! I ordered the tuna steak with wasabi mashed potatoes- the tuna was perfectly seared and the vegetables were sautéed until they were just tender but still crunchy. We were thrilled with our service and the freshness of the food and we will definitely be back!!

escellent all around

By SB1123 |

My wife and sisters-in-law went here for dinner after a festival in Rittenhouse Square. It was early (around 5:30), but with thousands of people outside we were pleasantly surprised to find it uncrowded and quiet inside. My wife and I are vegetarians, and we thought this was one of the best Asian fusion restaurants for us that we've ever been to anywhere. We had the ma po tofu, a spinach dish and potatoes julienne, all of which were fantastic. One sister-in-law had a soup with a coconut base and a salad, and the other had a chicken dish, and they raved about their food, too. The beer menu was not bad, and the dessert menu looked amazing, but we were too full to partake. The ambiance is just as cool as it looks in the photos, and our waitress was very attentive and kind. We all recommend Spice 28 very highly.

Wind down dinner

By Jon G |

After a long day working at a convention, I took a small group to Spice 28 for dinner. It w a nice place to wind down. Nice background music and a good variety of drink. Communication with wait staff was a bit of a challenge but we worked through that issue. Food, overall, was very good.

Not the best I've had

By sail29er |

I was very excited to try this place while on business in Philadelphia. I ordered the wontons in a hot sauce and the panang curry. I was very disappointed with the curry - although the portion was very large and would serve two people, it lacked flavour and was too soupy in consistency. Service was very slow.

Delicious as Usual

By Tye G |

We come here every year for our anniversary, never a let down with our choice of dishes. I love to experiment with different dishes and drinks--- this time was no different While hubs ordered his usual, chicken fried rice, I ordered something different this time around, tofu seafood soup, hold the tofu (not a fan -sorry guys) which was delish lot of shrimp!!! I also ordered the Sautéed Udon Noodles with Shrimp--absolutely lightly sweeten and delish!!!!!! Forgot the name of our drinks, but they were tasty and refreshing as well.

Good food

By sj9400 |

This place was near our hotel so we decided to try its. Drinks were a nice size. We ordered a few sichuan dishes as well as American Chinese. The dan dan noodles and Sichuan dumplings were ok. Not what I am used to in sichuan restaurants. The dry hot pot was good. The pineapple friend rice was average.

Great food; make sure your server understands your order

By 1VoiceInTheCrowd |

I was glad to have read previous reviews warning that there could be communication issues with servers - this made me more patient when our (friendly) waiter couldn't understand that we were trying to order a large bottle of Pelegrino for the table. We ended up speaking to another employee at the restaurant to fulfill our request, which was fine. We weren't in a hurry, and the restaurant wasn't crowded, so this didn't detract from our experience at all. We were very happy with our food choices! My husband and I ordered the duck bun appetizers (I chose steam buns, and he chose the crispy fried) - which were great. I enjoyed my main course: pad thai with shrimp (happily, the waiter and the chef both followed my request for a spice level of ZERO). My husband also greatly enjoyed his order of "street noodles" (with a default spice level of "one"). We would definitely eat here again on a return trip to Philadelphia.

Cute little place - great for a quick lunch.

By sun_sand_saltwater |

Stopped here for a quick lunch and loved everything. The decor is modern yet comfortable and the staff is friendly and attentive. The drinks were beautiful and they also had a nice mocktail menu. We ordered the wontons in chili oil and pot stickers for an appetizer, wonton soup, and I ordered the drunken noodles with shrimp as my entree. I couldn't finish my entree because it was so large, but it was delicious. I will definitely stop here again.

Satisfied Upon Second Visit

By Sing4Elohim |

The staff greeted us with a smile as we walked through the door and the bartender looked as though he was enjoying himself immensely. I ordered pineapple fried rice while my boyfriend had the yellow curry. I must say that the rice, which was initially somewhat dry, worked very well with some of the curry drizzled on top and we made a suggestion to the waiter. I appreciated the atmosphere, variety of patrons (both families and couples, and the portion sizes. The only real drawback from this visit was the tea. They were out of black and presented me with a pot with one green tea bag which produced weak tea and a hurried presentation. I suggest that they serve a more traditional Japanese brew or provide a selection to the guest.

cool, trendy place to go

By emcee215 |

Went for dinner on a Friday night. It was very busy and crowded, but in a good way. Our server was very attentive and up beat and he brought our drinks out right away. Food was tasty and fresh and quite enjoyable. It was loud in there so if you are trying to have an intense coversation- probably not the best place for that but there are a ton of bars and lounges near by to go to after you have a good dinner here.

Good food great service

By Kelly P |

Food was very good and fresh. My 4 star is only because the place is so loud. They need some kind of noise buffering.

Great food, friendly staff

By J B |

Just had the best lunch ever. I am in Philly for 3 days and I know I am going back. I had Pad Thai Chicken - so good. My husband (who in not very adventurous) ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice with chicken and he loved it. We told the server we would be back and she gave us suggestions to try the next time. I am still full, but I am craving my next meal.

Lights 😍

By Yarsemin |

When you think that place from outside looks small and you walk in and 💥 it's not 👍 really warm atmosphere , green lighted bar , loved the design of the Spice, I had pad Thai , soooooo good , and not expensive 😏 variety of food choices so you will defiantly find what you will like, the only thing is parking , you have to find it on a street. It usually packed evening hours so I would suggest reservation ✌️

Great Spot

By melissaS101217 |

A simple five minute walk from our city center hotel with yummy food that filled us up! The portions were large and tasty, the service was great and the ambiance was very New age. Highly recommend the rock shrimp, chicken pad Thai, and the shrimp rice noodles!!

Nice food , good service at a reasonable price

By bvlynch |

This place does not impress from the outside but once through the doors you can see it well laid out . be aware as with the name they do spice thinks up , i only got a two level spice time from the menu and it was just about my limit ( normally i go for three spice limit in an Indian ) . This is more casual than fine dining but the food was hot and tasty and not to expensive . Would not go here for a romantic meal but just fine for social meeitngs

By TheLadyWind |

Came here with a large party to celebrate a graduation. They were extremely accommodating (we were an hour early of our reservations). We ordered a variety of appetizers, all of them absolutely delicious. To my surprise, my favorite was the spicy cucumbers. I ordered General Tsos and the vegetable soup. Loved them both! Had a bite of the pineapple fried rice and chicken pad Thai from my relatives. Definitely would want to come back and order those dishes and other.

Wonderful Thai and Asian food

By GeorgeDubiecki |

To start with all the people that work here that we came in contact with are REALLY NICE. Even though we only tried a few things , they were all delicious. The mini wontons are wonderful. The sauce is perfect. The crispy chicken wings were amazing. Perfectly cooked. Tender meat inside and crispy on the outside. The sauce, sweet and tart was not cloying at all. It had a blend of delicious spices mixed in. It also came with cabbage which I mixed the sauce with. Kelly our waitress was so helpful. Responded to each of our requests. Jasper, and two Jasons were also very nice and helpful. I could not wait to come back so here I again. You will love the food here.

Food was tasty and we'll presented. Server was courteous and food came quickly and very hot (temp). Servings were large for lunch and reasonably priced.

The food was good. I had the drunken noodle and avocado crab salad However the customer service was not that good. They did not check on us or refill our beverage.

Asian fusion fun

By FrugallyPicky |

During restaurant week I stumbled on this restaurant to try. Very nice place. They have A LOT of seafood options, so if you eat seafood you're bound to find something you like. I don't eat much seafood but still found some yummy options. During restaurant week you get either 3 or 4 courses (depends on the restaurant) at a fixed price. Great way to try new places/dishes at an affordable price. I'm not sure if this is normally the case but it didn't seem like we had one set waiter/waitress. Quite a few different people came by and would asked if we'd been helped. That was different but I didn't mind it. My first course was lemongrass soup with chicken - Delish. Second course was Duck buns (kinda like a duck meat sandwich) - My first time trying duck and it was reminiscient of dark turkey meat, which I'm not a fan of. Third course was Cumin Lamb with rice - They forgot my rice but brought it right over when I mentioned it. This was delish as well. Fourth was course was cheesecake - I wasn't crazy about it but who expects great cheesecake from an Asian restaurant... Overall I'd definitely frequent Spice 28. Oh and I forgot to mention, they have some specialty drinks they've created as well as a standard drink menu - I tried a couple from both and was very pleased.

Awesome - different food. They had great prices and well explained menu for spicy or bland palettes. Great idea for something different.

Spice 28 - nice fusion of Thai and Chinese!

By Robert B |

In Philadelphia for a conference, took a very good client to Spice 28 (recommended by Marriott Conceirge) and enjoyed a very nice, quiet, business meeting/dinner and great food. Just a few blocks off the main attraction area of downtown Philly, if you are in the mood for good Thai, this is your location. Pleasant staff, quick service, and very reasonably priced. Two thumbs up!

Asian food

By Traveller |

My wife and I had dinner here, while on holiday. We were staying at the Marriott Hotel, within walking distance. We found this place using Trip Advisor. We ate a fish dish and a prawns with vegetable dish, together with steamed rice.

Get the Ahi Dumplings!

By C-LynJ |

Yelp reviewers suggested Ahi Dumplings. The waiter suggested Drunken Noodles with chicken. We got both and both were delicious! Also ordered the lettuce wraps and Saigon Beef. Not as impressed with those two dishes, but they were good.

Very good Asian cuisine

By jadocz |

I got talked into eating here and was pleasantly surprised. Both the lettuce/chicken wraps and the wonton soup were delicious. It was easy to get a table without a reservation as long as you go early. Fun atmosphere. Will be back.

Lunch w/CoWorkers

By PinkIceStorm |

My coworkers like this place. I don't think its that awesome. Every time we have been (and that is often) the food is cold when it arrives to the table. I don't understand how the food is always luke warm or cold. Even the soup is cold. You can get waay better food in Chinatown a few blocks away.

Wonderful pan-Asian cuisine

By daxenpax |

Visiting Philly and looking for a restaurant close to the convention center, we walked to Spice 28. The reviews we read sounded good, but you never know until you try a place. Well, we were not disappointed! Spice 28 is a real find., and I give it my highest recommendation. It's a pretty hip, young place, but not loud or distracting. The bar i front is really jumping, but the tables further back are quiet enough. The decor is modern but not over the top. The service is quick and very polite. Our server was just great. She knew the menu and made some good recommendations. We had the lettuce wrap for an appetizer. They come spicy or non. The spicy ones we had were not terribly spicy, but you'll definitely know that you ordered spicy. And they were fantastic. Then we had two entrees: the green curry (recommended by our server) and the salt and pepper duo. The curry was excellent, with real Asian black mushrooms and other veggies. The chicken was sliced thin and cooked so lightly that it melted in our mouths. I hesitated in ordering the salt & pepper duo because it was offered in shrimp, calamari or duo (both). I opted for the duo, even though I love Chinese salt calamari because sometimes the calamari can be tough. Well, I should have gone with my first inclination. Don't get me wrong, the shrimp was very good, but the calamari was to die for. I have never had a more delicate or tender version of this dish! The we decided to have dessert. We don't usually, but they had all gelato deserts -- in an Asian restaurant! So we were intrigued. We had one of the chocolate designs, and it was also perfect. This place seems to be able to do everything well. And our bill -- with drinks was $64 (before tip) -- a real bargain for such a great dining experience.

Asian fusion for the holiday

By Dan K |

On Christmas Eve, my wife and I went to Spice 28 on Chestnut Street because it was close to our hotel. At first we thought it was closed; the exterior wasn’t very inviting, but once we stepped inside it was a whole different story. This was no normal Thai restaurant but what they call Asian Fusion. The modern sleek design of the interior and the friendliness of the hostess made for a fine start to our dining experience. It was our waiter’s first day on the job, so he had another waiter shadowing him, which meant we always had service. Appetizers were delicious (pot stickers and ahi tuna). For dinner I had the Tangerine Duck which was tangy and tasty. My wife had the tuna avocado salad. The desserts were out of this world. I had the exotic bomba (mango, passion fruit and raspberry sherbet covered in white chocolate). My wife had the Coppa Strawberry and Caramel (vanilla ice cream with strawberries and caramel). They didn’t serve coffee but that was okay. A very good dining experience for the holiday.

A delightful find

By idbg |

This was a last minute reservation, I read a couple of reviews and decided to take a chance. What a great find! The food here is absolutely delicious. I recommend the Cumin lamb and the Shrimp Penang Curry and Sauteed Spinach.

Great Restaurant

By Lauren B |

Came here last night with a party of 6, including one person in a wheelchair. Staff was very accommodating and restaurant was easily wheelchair accessible. Food was excellent! We ordered a variety of foods, including the panang curry, fried rice, potstickers, and rock shrimp. All were thoroughly enjoyed! Waiters seemed very busy, but overall provided great service. Ambience was incredible - trendy and cool without feeling uptight. Can't wait to return!

Go for happy hour!

By Danielle M |

Was good, just wish the Pad Thai had some spice to it - given their name is Spice 28 - at least it wasn't that awful red sauce Pad Thai. But perfect portion with lots of chicken. Also had Spicy Cucumber - good but also not much spice.

Too smokey and lousy attention to detail

By bnwilensky |

On this beautiful summer evening, the restaurant's front was completely open to the outside. Unfortunately, that meant that any people smoking nearby sent their noxious fumes all the way into the restaurant. This resulted in the farthest thing from a non smoking restaurant since the '70s. We were seated all the way at the far end of the place, yet the chain smokers who were allowed to congregate and talk to diners in the front of the restaurant fouled the air for everyone. It was the most unpleasant dining experience I have had in decades. Had we not been with our family from Philadelphia, we would have walked out and demanded a refund. Oh, yeah, they have food there. I ordered a seared tuna with pepper that was advertised as coming with wasabi mashed potatoes and vegetables. What arrived was the tuna and vegetables. When I asked the waitress where the wasabi potaotes were, she went back to the kitchen and was told that they were "sold out" of them. At 6:30 on a Saturday night with only five tables occupied! No apology, no explanation, no accommodation.Just the two items on the plate. Ratings: Service-C minus Food-D Atmosphere-F Restaurant-Find another

quick bite

ate here while at a meeting. restaurant very loud on a weekend night. considered communicating with my waitress by sign language at times. service quick and efficient despite the noise. I had the Pad Thai with shrimp which was decent. i had asked for extra spicy but it was only moderately intense. flavor ohterwise good and shrimp not overcooked.Waitress poured my beer without angling glass so I had to wait what seemed like an eternity for foam to subside. Price not bad

Quality food for a reasonable price

By Federico_Marcon |

Just been there with my girlfriend. Great experience. The restaurant was cool: pleasant music in the background, kind and informative waitress, clean and comfortable places. We ate fried rice and thai pad. The food was very good: the right amount of spices, lot of different, tasteful and quality ingredients. The portions was big enough. The beer list is good and fits with the menu. We spend just 35$! Try it!

Very good Chinese and Thai food

By NTP66 |

I've had both their Chinese and Thai dishes, and have enjoyed all of it. Their General Tso is tasty and spicy, with juicy pieces of chicken, and their Pad Thai is excellent. The only knock on Spice 28 is that it's a little slow getting your food, so if you plan on take out, it'd be a good idea to order ahead.

Tasty

By Marianne A |

Went here for lunch and both my husband and I enjoyed our food. I hd the Thai basil fried rice and he had pad thai. Both were tasty and flavorful. While I wouldn't go out of my way to go to this restaurant as its quality is similar to other Asian restaurants I've been to, it was a tasty meal and if I was in the area I'd go back.

Delightful Fusion

By ReachOutoftheDark |

We were in Philadelphia visiting for the Flower Show and had Friday night dinner and Sunday lunch at Spice 28. On both occasions, there was not a problem in getting a table. The food was very good. It's a little bit of everything Asian. The service was a little slow on Friday night, but it was a Friday night. On Sunday, we arrived as they were opening for lunch. They screwed up some orders but quickly corrected them. The food was good and fairly reasonable. We enjoyed our meals, which is evident by our return for lunch on the Sunday.

Spicy Tofu!

By hihoes |

We had a great vegetarian dinner and enjoyed awesome courses. Friendly and observing staff. Folks, you really made our day!

When they say spicy, they mean spicy!

By silverlady23 |

My husband and I love spicy food. Our waiter said we would like the Thai chicken with green sauce. He said it was spicy. My husband noticed on the menu it was considered 3 out 5 chili peppers for hotness. I could not finish the dish. It was good but extremely spicy. Things were on the expensive side but atmosphere was awesome. Service not so great.

Great Tai Food in the Center of Philly

By vdupuy |

Bartender makes a great Belvidere martini, get the olives... Spciy variants even ordering the beef dish (not normally spicy), jazzes up the meal. Not to expensive for the amount of food. Shrimp appetizer is awesome, served lightly fried with hot mustard glazing.

Awesome dinner!

By Victoria B |

We were staying near Chinatown, but when we searched, Spice 28 was the spot that came up, even though it's not in the heart of Chinatown. The place is fly! I felt very hip eating here. I ordered won ton soup for an appetizer and my husband got pot stickers. For our main dishes I got pineapple fried rice without the raisins and my husband got the Japanese chicken dish that I now can't find on the menu. He enjoyed his meal but felt like the chicken was cooked separately from the flavors. He wanted more fusion. Overall it was a great meal and reasonably priced.

Great Food and Drinks

Spent the weekend in Philly and this is always a stop for us. Food is excellent and the drinks are awesome. The service is always wonderful. A must stop if in Philly.

Stopped in on a whim, going back tomorrow night for more!

By Colleen M |

I am in Philadelphia on business, and I was looking for a decent hoagie/sandwich, which I found. On my way back to the hotel I happened to pass Spice, decided to stop in to see what they had for happy hour, and boy was I rewarded. I ordered the happy hour pot stickers and chicken satay, which were both yummy yummy yummy. After eating both of those I ordered the blue crab quesadilla (recommended by another patron) because the pot stickers and satay were so good - AND despite the fact that I had a sandwich in a bag right next to me - yes, it was that good. Benny (the bartender) was skilled, friendly, funny, and on top of everything. I'm going back before I leave.

Dan Dan Noodles

By 46XX |

My husband and I are huge fans of Han Dynasty, especially their Dan Dan Noodles. My husband stopped at the new Spice 28 and brought home some take out. The Dan Dan Noodles,Spicy Crispy Cucumber (another Han favorite) were very good as was the Duck Frijita Asian Style but some of the other dishes we had were not good at all. The Szechuan String Beans were tasteless and the Chicken Hot Sauce Style had a peculiar taste that turned me off. I think they may be trying to do too many different style foods. We wil stick with Han Dynasty.

Extensive menu, pretty good food

By 3-fl-oz-com |

This place provides quick take-out and a nice eat-in environment. The menu is extensive enough that everyone who is ok with Asian food should be able to find something.

Yummy menu of Asian food and varieties of beverages that you should not miss - wine, beer, cocktail

By Peggy T |

We were walking around Philadelphia city centre in the evening when we chanced upon this quaint restaurant. The service people were very friendly, professional and patient. In addition, each of us enjoyed our choice of food very well. They are not only tasty but authentic. This ia a great place to relax and chat with your friends.

Lovely food, friendly service.

By JoyceBrodie |

We had problems finding somewhere to eat as everywhere was so busy, so we were pleased to find a restaurant that was not completely full so early in the evening. We ate just after 8pm.The food was good and sensible servings. Nice enough staff who looked after us well.

Bring your own birthday cake, better yet don’t bother.

By Jose M |

My son’s birthday wasn’t important to them. Don’t tell my wife over the phone that you will sing happy birthday and then leave us empty handed and disappointed. Order was rushed, we had to call waiter back to tell him we wanted bottled water (he left in a rush). Not very impressed at all.

Delicious lunch!

By maapar |

Ate here for lunch while visiting town. Dumplings delicious, as were a variety of small plates. Service efficient and friendly.

Good food, but slow service and very noisy atmosphere

By Laura S |

I went here for the first time last night and met two friends for happy hour. Since they arrived before me, they already had drinks. It took at least 10 minutes for a server to come by and ask if I wanted anything. My drink came pretty quickly, but then no server was around when we were ready to order food. Once we did order the food, it came out pretty quickly. I got the pineapple fried rice with shrimp. It was delicious! But, then we waited and waited with empty glasses for a server to come by and get us another round of drinks. After our second round arrived, we had a server come by and try to give us additional drinks that we had not ordered (obviously being delivered to the wrong table.) This happened three times! When our check came, two of those drinks (that we never ordered) were on it. They quickly corrected it - but that was kind of annoying. Also, the noise level was really, really high. We had a hard time hearing one another talking. I probably would not come here again - at least not when it was so busy.

Great food overall. Loved the Cumin Beef and Tuna tartar dumplings. Lily was a great host. I would definitely go back again whenever I visit Philadelphia.

Overrated

By Bret S |

Had dinner with a party of 5 on a Friday night. They do a heavier bar business than dinner business. Our service was friendly, but the food was only average. I've had MUCH better salted calamari. The prices were not bad, but the low food quality still makes this a poor value.

Great food, great service

By Agk55 |

I was responsible for setting up a dinner for a very large party. I don't live in Philly and I don't know the city at all. A friend recommended a few places, this being one of them. Boy am I glad I took her advice! There were 35 of us AND it was Restaurant Week! Yet the service was personal; they even gave us the option of ordering from the regular menu and broke down the bill for each person! And the food! Everyone had a great meal. It was a little noisy but the food and service made up for that. I got lots of compliments from my colleagues for picking a great place. So thanks to everyone at Spice 28 for making me look good!

Great asian food in Philly

By mdfl87 |

Came with a group of 8 people for dinner last Friday night and really enjoyed our meal. We ordered a variety of dishes, including dumplings, tuna and soup and all were good. Only issue was the wait staff forgetting initial drink orders.

Lunch at Philly Asian

By SingaporeJD |

The Asian fare is average. Much of the food was dunked in chilli oil and not properly seasoned. We tried the pork dumplings which was average. The Indian flat bread (Prata) was good but the yellow curry had the proverbial fish oil and chilly oil. We had two types of rice and beef which was spicy as hell.

FANTASTIC, Family run business. Modern Asian/Szechuan Cuisine & BAR

By Jerry E |

First off, this is NOT FAST FOOD. Just RELAX and enjoy the experience. If you want fast food and fast service go elsewhere or do takeout from here. We sat outside and enjoyed a GREAT meal and "The FAMILY" not our family.... but theirs. I felt like I was at the home of the owner, her son and daughter and even Grandfather in the kitchen cooking and yes even Mike, the resident maitre d’ / security, neighborhood guy who set up our table and was looking out for the owner of the business. "The BAR was OPEN". (Lots of choices of drinks) Lots of GREAT choices, from HOT and COLD small plates to LARGE plates. I did order the wonton soup with greens and a side of pork.. It was off the chain. We also ordered Happy Hour appetizers (too many to list 6 of the 9) each was tasty and enjoyable. We ordered a shrimp dish that was perfect in every way, with LARGE shrimp and vegetables and noodles sautéed with the right flavor of spices. *** I love a good soft shell crab, and hard to find and not overdone or doesn't tastes all that great. But this place makes a Salt & Pepper Crab that was so good, that just writing about it makes my mouth start to water. The taste was one of the better plates I have eaten. It also comes with a chopped up bed of vegetables and a little spice. "We will be BACK" this place was a Rock Star 10, from the food to the FAMILY that runs this restaurant. My only hope is that due to COVID, they can stay in business. (*** I want to share this comment) I know I over tipped and not by a little but a lot? GET THIS - the owner came back out and tried to return the extra money. I told them GOOD FOOD and GOOD SERVICE is how I tipped. She was so grateful and that is why it made for one of the BEST dining out experiences of 2020 so far. . Jerry Ehrlich from the great City of Philadelphia *** These are my opinions

Great atmosphere and Thai

By D1_C5 |

The Thai calamari is very good. A variety of different Asian cuisine and a trendy but inviting atmosphere. The server was very friendly and attentive.

Great food and ambience - service meh

By bookman1995 |

Food was delicious and the decor and lighting was terrific. Our server needed 3 round trips to the table for the order. Maybe this is because she couldn't be bothered to take notes. The good news is, we were very familiar with our order by the time it arrived

Very attractive Chinese on Chestnut Street as good as Chinatown

By Lsbtravel1 |

Owned by the same brothers who own another restaurant in Chinatown this one is much more attractive has professional service and very authentic food. No need to travel to Chinatown to enjoy real Chinese cuisine

Great find, unexpected pleasure!

By Peter P |

A friend happened to discover this place the night before we decided to try, They mentioned what a great experience they had and suggested we should go. Yes, you will not regret, great service, menu was appealing on all levels. Many dishes to choose from, food arrived soon after we ordered. There were two in my party and everything was perfect. I will be back in Philly in March and will definately return to Spice 28.

Decent Food, Very Loud

By CMRieck |

My husband and I recently dined here for Philadelphia's restaurant week. First, it is extremely loud inside the restaurant. We were sitting towards the front under the wooden arch, which I think may have made it worse. Regardless, it was difficult to carry on a conversation with my husband, and we were seated at a small table. In fact, we saw an older couple come in and leave a few minutes later and tell the hostess that it was too loud and they couldn't stay. We were there on a Friday night, and the restaurant was full when we got there. However, by the end of our meal it started to clear out, but I didn't notice the noise level to go down at all. Service was fine, but a bit slow. I think that had to do with the restaurant being very busy on a Friday night during Restaurant Week. The food was just average. I was actually hoping for a lot more. The two dishes that we got were supposed to be spicy, and neither or us found them to be spicy at all. The Drunken Noodles with beef was tasty, but didn't have as much flavor as I hoped. The Basil Fried Rice with shrimp was a bit bland. I also ordered the wasabi mashed potatoes, and I couldn't taste any wasabi at all in them. I have had similar food at locations in the suburbs that is just as good, without the Center City price/parking/noise. I won't seek out going here again.

Tasty food

We visited in a big group of 15 people and all of us were satisfied with the food taste. The server was very friendly and helpful. We will visit again.

Wonderful Sichuan food at reasonable prices!

By Santorin3 |

Highly recommended for the excellent food at this gem of a Center City restaurant. The prices are quite reasonable, esp. for lunch on weekdays. Extensive menu of Asian fusion dishes, in addition to the classic Sichuan ones. Best dishes: Cumin Lamb, Fish (Dry Pepper or Double-Cooked), Shredded Pork with Dried Bean Curd and Chili. Service is very good indeed. Good selection of wine and beer; we opted for the Bengali IPA and the Relax Riesling.

get your sense of spice...!!

One of those sprung up restaurants that actually quit authentic favor and down to the real root taste places. I would recommend lunch special for its price.

Spice 28 was good time

By tp21-5649 |

Service was good. Staff were attentive without hovering. Food was good, though when the menu indicates a spicy dish - especially on the Szechuan section - believe it and order something with a milk sauce (like one of the curries) to go along with it and help quench the fire. Ambience was great - intimate. The modern feel of the decor worked well. We ended up staying longer than expected and on a weekday night too. Would definitely go again.

Great food and service!

By dos_box |

We ate here twice in June whilst on a business trip and can totally recommend it. The food was great and the service excellent. I'm giving it 5 stars overall as they seated and served us on our first visit as they were shutting up for the night and didn't hurry us up to finish. The dumplings are to die for btw!
