Thursday, the 8th of February, 2018 Dinner

By John C |

Spotted this restaurant on the way out of the local grocery store the evening before. Made the decision right then that I would go there tomorrow night for dinner. Arrived at the Indian restaurant shortly after they opened at 17:00. Service was quick and efficient. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala. It was very good. It was a little sweet but all and all quite pleasant. The appetizer were very good. The Naan bread was fresh and came out hot. Portions were good. You won’t go away hungry.

Wow This is one of the great Indian restaurant I visited in Austin. Had the buffet on this sunday and its my 3rd visit to Spice., food has Very good flavor and spice! Lives up to the name. I eat Indian many places. This place is up there in my top list. I can't wait to go back and try other dishes. Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandoori chicken, Goat curry and Apollo fish I tried on this sunday and all are v v tasty. Biryani options were kept moist in a a rice cooker. Loved the flavor too. Pani puri and Pav Bhaji was amazing. Best Indian food in Austin!! Amazing service. Will be back.

Visited their booth at Statesman Asian Night Market

By Gary T |

We visited their booth at the Statesman Asian Night Market event and the food was delicious. We both had the non-veggie plate which is Chicken 65, Chicken Tika Marsala and Indian Rice. It was actually quite delicious even setting on a curb while eating. We will actually visit the restaurant as a result of this event.

Ordered on Door Dash

By Linder24 |

After a long day of traveling, I didn’t feel like going out, so I ordered Door Dash. This restaurant came up, so I went with it. The butter chicken and the chicken tikka masala were delicious. And the delivery timing was perfect.

Hands down the best Indian restaurant in Austin with a HUGE vegetarian selection with a cozy environment and friendly service. The buffet is a steal. I threw my sons 21st bday party here. Tell them April sent you.

Awesome Indian Food - Home food away from home!

By Manish S |

Have been visiting Spice since an year now and you know what, have never been disappointed with their quality of food on each of my visit. The portion offered for its price is best in town. Buffet served has many options and tasty too. Above all the owner, Mr. Sam is very friendly and personally there most of the times to look after his guests. Don't miss it while in Austin!!

My favourite restaurant in town

By Emily G |

I love love love this restaurant. We started going to their San Antonio venue first and were so happy when they opened the second one in Austin. They struggled with service in the beginning, but with the new manager the place completely turned around. The food was always their thing. Delicious. Absolutely delicious. Daily lunch buffet is a great deal because you can try everything for fair price. My only problem with this place is I CAN'T STOP EATING!

Worst Indian Food !

By Worldwideexp |

Just Stay away !!! The worst Indian food. The food lacks flavor, spice and quality; along with a staff with arrogance and the worst attitude. Stay away from this place and don't want anyone to face the same worst experience.

Terrible Experience with food during first visit

By Prasad K |

We had a terrible experience during our first visit. We were the second customer reached at 11:15 am after opening the buffet at 11 am. The Rava Idlies served during lunch buffet were not hot and very had and it was very hard to cut into pieces and we trashed them. It looked they were taken out of fridge and served without heating properly. When I reported this to the person and he checked in the kitchen and came back and told us that Rava Idlies are made like that. We told him that we also make Rava Idlies at home and we never made them that hard. The sambar tray was half filled and cold at the time when just the second customer entered the restaurant within 15 mins of opening the buffet. It was not not that all items were cold. Other food items were served hot. It was very clear that the sambar was the left over of the previous day taken from fridge and served without heating properly. It was our first and last visit. We will not go again and not recommend it to anyone.

Horrible Food, OK Service

By Amazing A |

Yesterday was a horrible day (8/14/18), so I decided something new could salvage it. So, my son and I, decided to give this place a try. He is 12, it had been a stressful morning AND he was starving...so I don't know if he ate the food as much as he inhaled it. So, it was not bad enough for him to NOT eat it. He did complain about his lemonade. You can tell when lemonade is fresh squeezed; from concentrate; or from a powder. The lemonade at this place is made with powder, of which they used TOO much. The buffett leaves a lot to be desired. The only meats/proteins were chicken and tofu. I was sorely disappointed in the options. I wanted to leave; however, my son had already fixed his plate and began eating. So, I choked down a serving of the blandest, driest rice with Saag Paneer and a couple of pieces of equally dry grilled chicken. I prefer small ethnic restaurants, like this one, to the run of the mill chains (Masala Wok, Tarka). The chains are ok, however; I do like patronizing small business but not when it is a rip off. Their buffett is a rip off. I did try and order from the menu; however, the hostess continued to tell me all they had was the buffett. So, yeah... I will give them another shot, but not during lunch time and definitely not from the buffett. Title and price say "fine dining." This is NOT fine dining. It is priced for fine dining but the food is not worth the price. Updates to follow.

Second time

By Meena B |

This is our second time to this place. First time was much long before this pandemic and buffet was there for lunch. During this pandemic time buffet wasn’t available but a la carte. Very very few ppl were dining in but many to go orders. They have breast naans in my opinion. We ordered garlic and butter naan both were good. Ordered Kadri paneer which was fresh n good. Kids ordered butter chicken which was bit bland (spice level 2) for their taste but otherwise it was good. Overall this has become our place to stop by wherever we visit Austin. Even though food ordered from la carte still arrived in a timely manner without long wait for food.

Fresh-Flavorful-Fantastic!

By JDSoui |

The quality and freshness of the food was simply amazing. The Masala Chai tea (unsweetened), the Lamb Vindaloo, Garlic Naan bread and desserts were packed with flavor, yet not overbearing. The service was spot on and attentive. The options and food varieties, including vegetarian dishes, were expansive. Overall a phenomenal experience - will likely be back this week for another work-dinner.

Oh! Wonderful! Best Malai Kofta EVER

By mczArgyle_Texas |

We've been enjoying Indian food for over 30 years, and I cook it often at home (even though we're not Indian). I love Malai Kofta, but have never been able to achieve a good result at home (despite MANY tries). Theirs was the BEST I've ever had--nice koftas, but so creamy and smooth. Yummy! We also had the Mataar Paneer which was excellent too. This restaurant is HIGHLY recommended!!!

The best biryani that I ever had

When I think about SPICE INDIAN CUSINE, it’s the biryani that strike on my mind. The food at this place is too good and the ambiance is great.

Best restaurants in Indian Cuisine

By Meena B |

This was our first time ever to this restaurant during our recent visit to Austin, TX during Memorial day. We did not expect much but was pleasantly surprised by both quality of food (especially vegetarian items) and the service. Ambiance is good and ppl who are vegetarians will certainly appreciate the lunch buffet having separate row for Veg from Non Veg items :-) Will certainly be visiting again

Catering Order

By abhishek s |

I would like to start with the word 'Awesome'. The food was delicious & fresh, Reasonably price for the quality and quantity offered. The manager and staff was very patient and friendly. We had a catering order for 50 people and our guest were very satisfied by the taste. I would highly recommend for any size parties.

Great food

The food here tasted really so good. The buffet has lots of varieties. I had good Indian food after a long time.

Much Better Than Previous Restaurants

By docwhiteaustin |

This place has previously been home to several other Indian restaurants. We have tried them all. This is definitely the best yet. Better food. Friendlier staff. Spice is a bit more expensive ($14 lunch buffet) but offers high quality food and a wide assortment of tasty sensations. When we ordered from the dinner menu we really enjoyed the Chicken Saag and the Masala Dosa with Spinach Pakora appetizer. A few of the waitstaff could use a bit more training, but all seem friendly as is the new owner/manager. Glad to have the new crew in the neighborhood.

Good Indian food

By Shanker B |

We went here on a friday night with a few folks from work. They had a table waiting for us. The service was excellent and they suggested really good recommendations. We started off with pokaras and they also had chicken 65 and amristari fish for the table. The rotis were very tasty, The dal makhni was excellent and folks also enjoyed the chicken chettinadu. The briyanis were great. The portion size is huge and the size level can be adjusted to taste. It was good evening of good wine, good conversation and good food.

Spicy South Indian restaurant that has flavor and taste.

By USValib |

I have been here few times and I recommend going out and try on week ends as there are more specials and good food. Once I went on a week day to know how they are doing and had the worst food I could ever taste. Reason given, few chefs aren't turned for duty. Pros: Dum briyani's, pakoras, fish fry's, masala dosa, butter paneer curry, service. Cons: Rest room, ambiance (not so spacious), Above pros are purely for week end food only. They are new to business and has lots of scope for improvement. All the best. I recommend to try this place on weekend only.

Very good food. The goat curry is one of the best I have ever had and tasted delicious. Would recommend.

Horrible experience

By aspnet707 |

Visited this place today and the experience was horrible. Most of non-vegetarian food items were empty. Veg and Chicken dhum biryani pots were empty. When asked we were told they would be ready in few minutes and asked us to start with appetizers. But even after 10 minutes they were not ready and the few no veg items they bring were not enough for people in line. The owner and the few waiting people tried to avoid us. This location is understaffed. They didn't even bring water nor removed the used plates though we requested many time. When I confronted the owner while paying the bill, his response was rude. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
