Just when I thought my dinner couldnt get any better... In walks Mick Jagger!

By bobold |

This was my first visit to Spinasse and I found it on Trip Advisor. We choose the restaurant based on reviews. My husband and I started with a couple cocktails made perfectly and the squash blossoms. Our 1st bite of food literally we knew we choose the right restaurant. Our next course Cavatelli con ragu di costolette di manzo.... Our minds were blown on this dish. The pasta cooked perfectly, and with an amazing flavor on its own the ragu with the cherry tomatoes was out of this world good. Its one of those dishes you wish you could eat every night. I crave it every time I think of it it was that good! 3rd course, Maiale al Latte which is a milk braised pork shoulder served with polenta. Again totally knocked out of the park! Tender meat, savory sauce, creamy and truly perfect polenta. As were finishing this dish Mick Jagger walks in. The restaurant not crowded (only around 8-10 people) but I guess he heard what a fantastic chef Stuart Lane and his team are and decided to give it a try... which by the way he did give a mention to how good the food was in seattle at the concert the next day, so he must have been craving Spinasse the next day too.! Our last dish was the Walnut Semifreddo with vanilla shortbread cookies on the side. Again its just one of those restaurants, that every bite you are saying "oh my god". Literally incredible meal! Our server was outstanding. And the service all around was exceptional. These guys deserve a michelin look for sure!!!

Amazing Food and Service

By amy1966a |

Went here on our vacation to Seattle. Brother-in-law recommended it. Absolutely fantastic. I have a lactose issue and I explained it to our waitress and she went over the menu describing each dish and if I could eat it or not. We ended up starting with the Prosciutto de Parma. She recommended getting a half order and she made a good choice. Huge plate of meat. Delicious. Melted in your mouth. Then we split the Cavatelli con spugnole and the Tajarin al ragu. I could have eaten then Cavatelli all day. It reminded me of some of the great flying had in Italy. This restaurant is a bit away from the tourist areas of Seattle but a nice walk. Don’t miss it!

Outstanding Northern Italian food - especially the pasta

By Jeff R |

This was one of my best dining experiences in Seattle in some time: it lives up to the buzz. We sat at the bar (our choice), started with wine and a cocktail, and decided to pass on appetizers in order to save room for pasta: a good but difficult decision on a menu with plenty of options. Half portions of pasta allow variety, so went with the beef/pork ragu and braised lamb (passing up rabbit meatballs and braised beef cheeks - sigh), with glasses of Barolo and a red blend. Faithful Piedmontese food and wine. Service was attentive but not intrusive, but this food is best to savor. It's not inexpensive, but also not prohibitive, with quality well worth the price. Very popular place - reservations a must. I'm looking forward to dealing with another set of difficult decisions on the next visit.

Awesome!

We started at the bar next door for drinks and then moved for dinner. Everything about the place was fantastic including the food, atmosphere, and service . We relied on our waiters suggestions and he nailed it from the appetizers to the desert. We will be back soon.

Wow!

By DRJStAlbans |

As soon as we got to the door we could see that this was a professional outfit. The service was top notch and very friendly and the pasta the best we have eaten. The ambiance is just right, not stuffy or formal but pleasant and bubbly. All in all a fabulous experience.

Visiting Seattle for a couple of days and had read good reviews of Spinasse so we went. Great decision!!!

By Cliff C |

My wife and I went to Sinasse on Tuesday for a late Mother's Day dinner. We were impressed that we were offered two of each serving in half portions to combine as one. We had crushed peas with ricotta cheese, angel hair pasta soaked in butter and egg pasta with goat meat and then the cod entree. EVERY bite was a pleasure. Mary was our server. She could not have been more knowledgeable of the food, nor more gracious in helping this experience being as good a dining experience as is possible. To make the experience even better, the price was more than reasonable. Cudos all around.

Great food….now move along

By Sean S |

Five years ago, my wife and I visited Seattle and had an extraordinary experience at Spinasse. When we decided to return to the city for a fun trip, Dinner at Spinasse was an anchor on our itinerary. Unfortunately, they didn’t seem as glad to see us. Our first and second courses arrived simultaneously, before we had even sipped our cocktails. We told our server we would want wine after cocktails, but we had finished our entree before our server even came back to ask about wine. From sit down to appetizer to entree was under 30 minutes. We expected a two hour seating and we’re ready to order more food and drink. I guess they needed the table back. Great food…but we felt rushed and it was far from the dining experience we remembered. Three courses in under an hour sent the signal that they were turning tables. Not the destination experience we expected.

Birthday Dinner Ruined

By diann119 |

Spinasse was great until they asked us to leave. We were celebrating two birthdays and apparently exceeded our time allocation. It was the way the manager went about it that was humiliating. Rather than a gentle explanation she told me bluntly that we had exceeded our table time and to please leave as soon as possible. We were just about to get up and go anyway so such a shame she ruined our experience. Everything else was fine but why bother when Seattle has so many great restaurants with welcoming customer service?

"Fresh Italian food in a relaxed atmosphere."

By Oliver S |

We came here for dinner and had the cavatelli with mixed mushroom ragu and the Tajarin al ragu. Both meals were very good, and we especially enjoyed the diversity of the cavatelli's mushrooms. The portions here are not large, but the food is very rich. The outside dining at this restaurant is great for warm weather. The service is excellent.

Great northern Italian fare

By joe c |

Unassuming small restaurant but great food inside. Great service helps you through a unique northern Italian style menu. Make reservations early if trying for 7-8. We split an artichoke appetizer, 2 1/2 orders of antipastas, with a desert and wine for ~$100

Exquisite food and ambiance.

By Tom M |

I had Spinasse recommended to me by the dinner reservation service Open Table which said Spinasse of Seattle was one of the top four Italian restaurants in the country. So I took the bait and made reservations for my wife and I, since we were travelling to Seattle on business. We were not disappointed. The restaurant is unassuming, small, cozy, and located on a quiet corner about 5 minutes form downtown. The staff is very professional. The kitchen is open, and very quiet, with the staff moving as if in a silent ballet. The pastas is all handmade on the premises and you must try the "Tajarin con burro e salvia" (Fine hand cut egg pasta with butter and sage. ) It melts in your mouth! I have never had such excellent pasta. Go to Spinasse, your taste buds will be rewarded.

Not worth it at all

By Marc B |

Very limited choice for the price and not a lot of options if you don't like the menu. I ate nothing and yet spent a fortune!! Spoilt my night out and would put it down as my worst ever place to visit in my life so far!!! How do you rate a place as zero??

Fantastic Food

By anglo-australian |

A business associate booked Spinasse for the four of us, having been there on his previous visits to Seattle. Wow what a restaurant, the kitchen is in full view and the food was prepared with expertise & served with care. We had a great night and memorable meal.

Excellent meal in Cap Hill

By gsprunner |

This was the last night out at the end of a vacation week for the family, sightseeing and enjoying some nice dinners. As it turned out, this was the highlight. The service was warm, the food (including bruschetta, pasta ragu, and meatballs) was all excellent. Strongly recommend.

Good

By dvak |

We missed this place twice as we could not see the signage on a cold dark winter night :) however the meal and service made up for it. We celebrated our anniversary with my kids 9 and 15. We ordered quite a few dishes so we got to try almost had the menu and we have nothing but good things to say about this place. The highlight was in-house pasta for sure.

Excellent Italian food, good service, short menu, little restaurant.

By ferelizondo49 |

I went to this restaurant for dinner. It is located in Capitol Hill, somewhat removed from the center of activities in Seattle. It is a small Italian restaurant with very simple decor and no luxury. The service was very good, the house-made pasta excellent, and in general the dishes very good and tasty. The selection of dishes, however, is short. The atmosphere was quiet and allowed for a comfortable conversation.

Fantastic

By Lombardi1952 |

We had a bit of difficulty finding the location and parking but it was worth the effort. The atmosphere was rustic, warm and inviting and felt like you were in someone’s large Italian kitchen. Warm wood, candlelight and great smells abound. Everything I've ever had on the menus was fantastic. Their pastas stood out over everything else.

Special Evening at Spinasse

By Rick H |

Visited Spinasse on Sunday evening - everything from service, food and ambience was top-notch. We decided to splurge on the tasting menu which was excellent. Nearly everything was a highlight - but the onions - of all things - stood out as spectacular and unusual. The pastas were so delicate and rich and flavorful - best I’ve ever had. We were pretty full by the time the entrees arrived - but all (lamb shank, halibut and steak) were perfectly executed. Our waiter could not have been nicer and more professional. This place is not inexpensive, but I could easily see returning for a simple plate of pasta and some greens - but it would be hard to pass up those onions - ever!

Terrific food in an enjoyable setting Capitol Hill

By Joan m l |

My husband and I enjoyed having dinner at Spinasse. The location in Capitol Hill is great. The restaurant looks non-descript from the outside, but is warm and pleasant inside with simple decor and a welcoming vibe.. Everything we had was delicious. The waiter was well informed about both food and wine, and was helpful in making suggestions. We loved the salad and prosciutto with melon. My entrée was the tajarin al ragu which I highly recommend. My husband loved his duck. We can't wait to go back!

The Pasta is worth the trip to Seattle

By Arias55 |

We were in Seattle to celebrate an anniversary and had some of the best pasta ever. The Tajarin with Butter and Sage was so good we ended up ordering the Tajarin with Ragu so we could have more of the deliciousness. The staff was pleasant and efficient. The restaurant is decorated eclectically which adds to the old world charm given the older building they are in. There are also seats outside on the street. The pasta was definitely the highlight but our King Salmon was cooked well and had get flavor from the other elements of the dish. I could have eaten the pasta - either one -- all night and been very happy. They have a bar area with seating and it was full even on a weekday. If I lived anywhere near this restaurant I would be enjoying the ambiance and the food regularly.

Wonderful Pasta

By Emily M |

We went here on the recommendation of some friends and are so glad we did! We both had pasta dishes and they were excellent. We also split a heirloom tomatoe salad that was delectable also. The restaurant is midsized and tables are close together. Menu is somewhat limited also. Service was excellent and wine list for wines by the glass was excellent also. As others have said, prices are high, but Seattle is an expensive city and in my opinion, the food is well worth it. We live in the other Washington (DC) and wish there was a Spinasse or its equivalent here!

Dining experience I've been waiting for!

By Danamarie B |

I have a list of restaurants all over the world. Just waiting for that moment when I am in that city to visit. Spinasse is one of those restaurants. It's been on my list for a few years after seeing a spot on food network about the fresh pasta room. OH MY! The restaurant was beautiful with this large open kitchen. You get a chance to see, hear & smell everything going on to make each beautiful dish that comes to your table. We chose to do the tasting because you have to in a place like this that offers so many fresh pasta options. I am in Seattle it's on my list, I want to taste everything! Every dish was better than the one before, but then another bite of the first one and you are lost again. Each dish had it's own personality. Textures compliment the seasonings that compliment the sauces that compliment the protein. It all sings in unison on a dish that is cooked perfectly. Have you ever heard of food bringing tears someone's eyes. Well, when you get a taste of the Tajarin al Ragu o Burro e, Salvia, you will know what I am talking about. This was unlike any pasta & butter I have ever had in my life. Think of the best butter you have ever tasted that tasted like real butter and added a handmade rich egg pasta to it. Wow!. The server told us that it is made with a really good quality butter that had like 90% butter fat. Since leaving Spinasse, I have been on a search for this butter and yet to find it. As each course made its way in front of me, I became more excited. By far the pasta dishes were my favorite. The secondi dishes were good, and the pork belly stood out. I would have loved a tasting of every appetizer and pasta and been a happy woman. If I ever get a chance to go to Spinasse again I'll ask if I can do that. Spinasse is highly recommended you won't be disappointed. We also really enjoyed a cocktail next door before dinner. Definitely, make reservations.

Delicious Northern Italian food

By Austin230 |

We have eaten at Spinasse in the Capitol Hill neighborhood twice in the last two months and each time was thoroughly enjoyable. To start, we had the Antipasto Misto which was a taste of each of the appetizers. A great way to taste lots of their dishes. All of the pasta is homemade and I think we have tasted each of their pastas over two visits and have loved all of them. The lamb Agnolotti, which is a ravioli type pasta, is particularly good. Nice wine selection too. Highly recommend.

Another superb dining experience

By DaveH |

This is my favorite Italian restaurant in Seattle. The food is superb, the service is attentive and professional, and the ambiance is comfortable and pleasant.

Horrible customer service

By Rico R |

This place is pretty busy so walk-ins are hard. My kids were hungry so I asked to be seated at the counter. I was willing to wait for an hour but the lady's attitude was off-putting. Who does send a customer to "go to another restaurant down the block"? The other staff was also asking us to "wait for the table at the park nearby". Needless to say, we preferred to leave. If you like good pastas with attitude, this may be the place to go.

Food good, service not good.

By kimabicht |

I guess no one from Spinasse is reading these reviews--because we also made reservations for a birthday celebration. A very special celebration (80) and this venue was highly recommended for exceptional food. Exceptional food is no excuse for treating people so poorly. Our reservation was for 5:30--we arrived early. They refused to seat us until 5:30. They shuffled us over to the corner to watch pasta dry. The table they sat us at was just sitting there waiting. We could have sat, had a drink, but no. We waited. Then they insisted we order everything at once, and they would bring it out. That's fine, understood. When ordering, the server insisted we weren't ordering enough pasta and told us to order more. We said we were fine. They sent extra pasta as a gift. That was nice. They also sent an extra dessert for the birthday. Then, abruptly, the manager came over and told us (at 8:30 p.m. mind you) that we needed to vacate the table, as they had other reservations coming in. They started clearing plates and glasses. They left my friend with bottled water and no glass to drink it out of. They didn't offer to box up the desserts we weren't finished with. When we didn't leave immediately, the manager came over again and basically said we had to leave. It was 8:30 p.m. on a Sunday night. We saw no other people coming in, no one waiting. It was the rudest behavior I have ever been treated to in an expensive joint. Looks like this is common for this place. There are so many other places in Seattle that appreciate the business and aren't pretentious about what they offer. This was my last meal at Spinasse, and I would not recommend it for any type of celebration. Here's a thought--if you have a table time limit--let people know in advance--and don't accept reservations for a birthday celebration if you're trying to turn tables.

Did not have a reservation

By Kaitlyn S |

Did not have a reservation and walked in and was seated at the bar. My friend and I split 4 dishes. Brussel spouts: soooo good (the sauce!!), tajarin pasta (F**** party in your mouth), and Ragu and agnolotti (both amazing!). I have been to a lot of the Italian restaurants in Seattle and this is by far my favorite. This is a must on your stop to the city!!!

It was a four

By Gwen B |

This neighborhood northern Italian restaurant had been recommended to us by several friends as their Seattle favorite-it has an excellent reputation. Perhaps our expectations were just too high. We found it to be a small venue with a warm, welcoming hostess but cool, self-contained staff who offered us little assistance despite being self-proclaimed first timers seeking advice. The vaunted sage and brown butter pasta had no hint of sage, though it was notably rich, and the vegetable dishes were good but not memorable. We did enjoy the roasted peach dessert. The menu was meat heavy, with limited veggie options. If you are vegetarian you might want to check the day’s offerings in advance.

Wonderful evening

By Katie F |

We had a lovely meal here. It lived up to the hype. Be careful not to order three overly rich courses, that was my only regret! Great service as well, you won't be disappointed!

This is the place of choice for me and my wife.

By Paul F |

The fresh pasta is a winner every time. The focus on Piedmont wines makes this a real treat as there is a wine for every palette and every pocket book. We are always treated well by knowledgeable staff.

Hidden Gem, Hesitant to Review as I don't want to give the secret away!

By mlbidna |

My wife and I came to Seattle for our anniversary and after much research I booked this restaurant. Needless to say it actually exceeded our expectations. My wife ordered the Capricciosa salad and the Cavatelli con spugnole pasta and we both cannot stop talking about these dishes. The pasta had unbelievable flavor and literally melted in your mouth. I wish they sold the salad dressing online as well. We will be coming back!

Considering the reviews, food was not quite what I expected

By oldcrusty |

Went to Spinasse based on rave reviews. Had various dishes, some suggested by the waitress. However, the food was honestly average, and expensive for what it is. Service was also "meh". As one can look into the kitchen, the lack of gloves for some of the food handlers (bread, etc) was slightly concerning.

This restaurant is a wonderful dining experience !

By Margie M |

The food and service was amazing. We were there to celebrate my son’s graduation from university. It was the perfect restaurant for such an occasion!

So tasty but portions a little on the small side

By Grownup56 |

A wet, damp evening in Seattle and comfort food was calling. A swift walk up the hill from Downtown brings you to Spinasse. The viewing windows into the kitchen showing the fresh pasta being made is a nice touch. The pasta tasted amazing as did the red wine, however the portion felt it was a little on the small side.,

Must visit restaurant in Seattle

By Justbrocky |

This was my first time here and highly recommended from friends in Seattle. Everything was wonderful. The pasta dishes were absolutely delicious. Can't wait to come back.

Good service and amazing teramisu

By MrDebel |

Visted as a business dinner, really great sharing possibillty giving a really good broad taste og really good italian dishes and pasta. But the tiramisu was the best I ever tasted !

Too good to share

By span2938 |

I was was almost tempted not to share this gem with Tripadvisor visors. This is an excellent Italian restaurant in a cozy location, two separate rooms, with an open kitchen located on Broadway/Capitol Hill. The menu is recommended for family style eating. Be careful with that, unless you're extremely honest with the portion you eat, you will want to eat more than what you are allotted. Yes it is that good. The tagliatelle with butter and sage is to die for. The goat ragu was better than anything I've ever tasted. Even their dipping olive oil and balsamic vinegar is of top top-quality. Most of the white wine come from the Piedmont region in Italy. We ordered the Dragon blend of Chardonnay and Riesling forgot the third Variety, and it was yummy. Highly recommend. A meal that will joy disappoint.

Lost Its Soul

By Philip G |

Spinasse is known as the best Italian restaurant in Seattle, and a reservation is difficult to attain. It is also known for being "Seattle concerned," and doing the right thing. But their crowning may have caused Spinasse not to try as hard, because our dinner outside on a sultry Sunday evening in July was good, but didn’t match the greatness I remember from the past. A bland appetizer with burrata was so unmemorable, I forgot the rest of the ingredients. Spinasse did take it off our bill when someone at our table complained. The fine hand-cut egg yolk pasta with cultured butter and sage was magnificent and saved the evening, but the fine hand-cut egg yolk pasta with pork and beef ragù was not appropriate for the fine cut noodles. The ragu didn’t stick to the noodles because they were too thin. Thus, the pasta, although well made, was very bland. Everyone did rave about the heirloom tomatoes. Service was perfunctory, exhibiting what I coin Seattle professionalism. It was robotic, and we were faceless patrons, not much different than animated characters on a computer screen. What was once the Seattle freeze is now the Tech soulless, a malaise attacking the Emerald City with a vengeance. Soon robots will replace servers, and at certain establishments, we won’t know the difference. Sadly, I think Spinasse has lost its soul along with millions of others who spend more time interacting with machines than people.

Excellent Italian in a Fun Neighborhood

By RPK16 |

Well-executed, classic Italian dishes. The pasta with butter & sage was first rate. And the extensive, Italian wine list was fun to explore, as was the Capitol Hill neighborhood afterwards.

Very good!

By montana43 |

A party of 6, impressed with everything we ordered especially the lamb pasta. Wine recommended went perfect with the meal, attentive service. Pasta was cooked to perfection and the sauces were great. The only slight blemish was we felt a bit hurried along in the ordering process, place was busy and I'm sure they needed the table for another rez. Anyway can highly recommend!

Fine Dining Experience

By Onthebacknine |

Made a point to try Spinasse based on its reputation and, for the most part, it did not disappoint. Service by Max was excellent--personable and knowledgeable with regard to the menu. We started with the braised beef bruschetta which was excellent and the signature tajarin with ragu. Oddly enough, this was my least favorite dish of the night. The pasta itself was excellent, but I found the ragu lacking flavor and the wow factor I was expecting. We moved on to the trout and the pancetta mains, both of which were excellent, with the pancetta the star. Fantastic dish. A side of kale was both large and full of flavor. All in all, a very fine experience.

great restaurant

By baltoro |

Wonderful northern Italian cuisine. Home made pasta and wines from the Piemonte area. You need reservations!

Best Pasta Ever!

By 429jessica |

This was honestly the best food I have ever had in my life and that includes large cities like New York in the U.S. and over in Europe!

True Italy in Seattle

By laurafJ451NJ |

The service was impeccable and charming. The food was outstanding. Do not miss the asparagus with fried egg and the tajarin (linguine like pasta) with ragu lived up to the hype. Definitely save room for dessert - the honey and hazelnut semifreddo was the best I've ever had. The menu is small but well thought out. Reservations recommended.

Loved it! Reviews were right!

By Peggy H |

We so loved our dinner at Spinasse! Service was friendly, unpretentious and helpful. Love that you can get a smaller portion of the pasta. We split the mushroom ragu on polenta appetizer and then each enjoyed pasta. Truly you can't go wrong! The waiter recommended a bottle of red wine that was the perfect compliment to our meal.

Great Italian food and Service - Will be going back soon!

By Dennismc2015 |

Took "family" out for an early Fathers' Day on a Sunday. I found this place by watching "Food Network" 5 best Italian restaurants, and must say it didn't disappoint! Hand made pasta that was the best, and multiple choices of sauces made for a great meal. We also had the 18 month aged Prosciutto appetizer - Yummy. Not overly salty like the cheaper variety at most Italian food spots. This is a great spot for a Sunday night dinner - less traffic and easier to find parking. Make sure to have reservations since they fill up quickly and you wouldn't want to miss out on a fine dining experience.

Amazing pasta!

By RDBAz |

My San Francisco foodie friend and I went to Spinasse after having appetizers at Bar Ferdinand. We a chosen Spinasse because of their unbelievable pasta. To say that it was light would be an understatement. We opted to get half orders of each of the four primi items on the menu. Tajarin con burro e salvia is a real star of this menu, so simple and yet so complex. The tajarin al ragu was perfectly sauced, so that both the pasta and the ragu shined. The cavatelli con spugnole was rich and the morel mushroom ragu was perfect with the large pieces of mushroom blending well with the cavatelli. The risotto was creamy and light and again perfectly balanced. there is a reason that this is considered one of the best Italian restaurants not only in Seattle, but also in the country.

Food is flavor and Spinesse provides flavors for foodies. Great evening.

By Martin C |

I am a foodie, cook, wine collector, and hard to please. During a brief visit to Seattle, I discovered Spinesse. This wonderful restaurant is a tough reservation to get, so hopefully you will plan in advance. They do allow walk-ins begining at 5:00. Their specialty is the pasta. This is a must when visiting Spinesse. I specifically suggest the Tajarin Con Burro E. Salvia first. Who knew that something so simple could be so enjoyable. Next, we moved on to the Tajarin Al Ragu, which adds both pork and beef to the Tajarin. Yum. Lastly, the Cavatelli Con Conit D'Anatra was wonderful, but it is a little light on the duck. We are here for the flavors, not to consume mass quantities. Recommended Dolci is the Panna Cotta, Vanilla: panna cotta with toasted walnut butter and grapes. The staff could not have been more pleasant as was the evening. I would recommend Spinesse and will return.

A Memorable Celebration at Spinasse in Seattle

By Pete J |

Our first trip to Seattle, to celebrate our son’s 30th birthday, was made extra special by dining at Spinasse. We were incredibly impressed by the restaurant's ability to accommodate our party of eight. The ambiance was warm and inviting. The tasting menu was absolutely delicious! Our server, Adam B., was particularly attentive and knowledgeable, enhancing our dining experience significantly. Spinasse provided a truly memorable experience, making it the perfect choice for our celebration. We highly recommend it for an authentic, accommodating, and delicious Italian dining experience in Seattle!

Top 5 Meals

Mouthwatering pasta! This is a MUST for date night or family in town. Don't eat all day and get the tasting menu with wine pairings.

Wonderful food and service

By liveforwater |

A true northern Italian dinning experience. From the antipasto to primi pasta to main dishes. Great wine list and knowledgeable staff to help.

The best Italian in Seattle

By alexamaruska |

I continue to frequent Spinasse because of their delicious Northern Italian cuisine and excellent service. My favorite spot to be seated is at the chef's bar across from the pasta creation station. It is quite enjoyable watching the team create their many different delicate pastas and grissini while indulging in a fine meal paired with a Barolo or Barbaresco. I always order the handmade Tajarin with sage and butter. It melts in your mouth. Another dish I often order is the rabbit meatballs with roasted turnips and horseradish. Each meal at Spinasse brings back fond memories of Turin, Barolo, Alba, and La Morra.

Everything here is excellent!

By lws07 |

This was my favorite dinner out of a 3 night visit to Seattle. The pasta was amazingly good, both the butter&sage and the Cavatelli, which I got without the meat. Desserts are an amazing finale- the best tiramisu and lemon curd were both served in cute little pot mason jars and were outta this world.

Excellent food with few vegetarian options

By Helmut |

Big deal. I am pescatarian, but if you are vegetarian it will be slim pickings at Spinasse. The endive salad was delicious and the tajarin was magical. Overall friendly albeit slightly rushed service. A perfect place to celebrate with friends. Glad that the COVID measures were strict and vaccine cards + masks were required.

Wonderful food and dismissive management

By CanadianinParis_10 |

The food was excellent - northern Italian. Our server was friendly. Each time our course arrived, the dish was placed with the wrong person - we had to keep switching the plates around. The manager was very unfriendly and dismissive. I found this an unusual and uninviting approach for a restaurant business. He certainly did not make us feel welcome; in fact, the opposite. I would not choose to go there again - lots of fabulous restaurants with great food and a warm welcome.

Best Italian Restaurant Around

By CharlietheBlueJay |

Really don't want to do a review because it will be harder to get into this restaurant but they deserve it. Fabulous & inventive & delicious Italian food. Pasta is made in house and you can see them do it. The sauces are esquisite. We have eaten here twice and both times the dinner was talked about for weeks. Do recommend reservations.

Very good Northern Italian Food

By Alec D |

I can't believe that someone (on Trip Advisor) gave Spinasse a review as a restaurant that serves Greek food??? I love Greek food but Spinasse serves nothing that is based on Greek food. Wow!!! The food at Spinasse is very good northern Italian. They are considered one of the best Italian restaurants in Seattle for good reason. If you close your eyes as you're eating you might imagine that you were in a trattoria that was located in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy. It's not inexpensive but it is very good. I highly recommend a visit.

Will not be back.

By bonneylaketapps |

Had high expectations for this place as it was recommended as the best pasta in Seattle. Pasta prices are at a premium but the quality is marginal. Yes, it is handmade pasta but the recipes are very basic. Other ingredients in the pasta were hard to find. Didn't get the main course. Dessert was ok. Wasn't happy with the greeting we received either. They are very abrupt and not accommodating at all. They said they'll seat me only when the whole party is present. There was no place to wait and I literally felt I was too close to the first table in the restaurant and was afraid I'd make the couple seated there too uncomfortable. Once at the table, we were told all orders must be placed at once. I didn't know whether I'd feel like having more than a pasta dish but had to limit myself to it because we had to place all orders at once. I was glad I didn't order the main course though because I wasn't impressed by the quality of either appetizers and or the pasta we ordered. There is nothing Piedmontese about their cuisine, contrary to their self advertising. Priced very high for what you get. Will not go back. There are much better Italian restaurants in Seattle where they are actually happy to see you and very accommodating.

I want to visit Seattle again just to eat here

By x7p3p |

Our dinner at Spinasse was absolutely perfect. Our food was outstanding and the service was impeccable. If you are in Seattle, you must visit this restaurant. Spinasse and everyone who works there deserve a thousand platinum stars, thank you for a terrific night!

Excellent food and service

By setfire |

If you're looking for a special night out or a date night, this would be a great place for it. Menu is designed to be family style, with all of the dishes shared. The pasta comes in half and full portions. It's not a large menu but there is variety there. The tajarin al ragu was delicious and quite rich, but very, very good. Expensive, but to be expected. Waitress was very nice and helpful and patiently explained the menu items to us, as we were unfamiliar with a lot of the names.

Good Italian option with freshly made pasta and a great anti-pasti!

By gourmexican |

Visited Spinasse along with my dad and brothers. We wanted to try something different and had never been there before. The restaurant looks small from outside, but it is quite spacious on the inside. We decided to share an antipasto misto between the four of us. It was a good option as we got to try many different things. All of them had good taste and portion sizes were good to be shared. To give the fresh handmade pasta a spin we decided to share three different pastas between the four of us. It was sufficient. The pasta had a great flavor and was indeed fresh. The sauces were tasty as well. We paired the pastas with a side of roasted Brussel sprouts. The sprouts were not the best that we’ve had, but they met our expectations and were a good pairing. The restaurant is nice with a good ambiance. Service was good. Nothing impressive, but just right. Will definitely visit again, but will definitely check some other Italian restaurants before going back.

Must Try

By tb911 |

We loved Spinasse! We stopped in on a Thursday, came here straight from the airport, specifically to try their tasting menu, which consists of one of every appetizer and main on the menu. (Only things not included are the sides and dessert.) Everything was amazing. I especially loved the pasta, but everything was very tasty and well executed. (Note, this is not thick and chewy pasta, rather it is light and delicate. Set your expectations accordingly.) The room is a bit small and crawded and a tad bit noisy, but nothing that isn't manageable. The service was fantastic, the staff were very friendly and helpful and courses came out at a reasonable pace. There is a parking garage and a parking lot near by, along with street parking.

Excellent high end restaurant

By KLM |

Excellent food and superior service. Very creative cuisine - would not recommend for small kids - more for foodies.

Not the wow that we expected

By Geoffmount |

The restaurant doesn’t stand out from the outside. It is rustic but comfortable inside. Good menu choices. The starter was ok but no more. We ate different main courses and enjoyed them but they were nice rather than stunning. Not what I considered value for money. For the amount charged the food didn’t hit the mark. Further, I advised the waitress that I had an intolerance to cheese but when my food came I was told that it had Parmesan in it as the chef said the dish was incomplete without it!

Best pasta you will ever have

By Robert H |

I have been here both by myself and with my girlfriend. If you want amazing mouth watering pasta this is the place to go in Seattle. There is not a better Italian cuisine location in the city. Everything you try is savory, and succulent. This restaurant has also been featured on the food network as one of the top Italian places in the U.S. Enjoy!

Excellent

By bunsy64 |

Quiet inside with great fresh ingredients so little problems with intolerances.Typical Italian food with lots of flavours .Very nice craft beer also.Tried a number of dishes all excellent.Homemade noodles superb.Prices not unreasonable for quality offered.Booking ahead is a good idea as it is not a very large place

Great, but not memorable

By Winesnobs_Two |

Having read the reviews, we decided to have dinner here. The wait person was extremely helpful and all the staff seemed very pleasant. The meal was also good including the poached egg, pastas and dessert/coffee. The neighborhood vibe was also very fun, quaint and worth the trip. The evening left nothing to negatively criticize, however for us....we will likely opt to try other options in Seattle before we choose to return. If I was to find a negative review, it would be that the wine list was a bit overpriced for their offerings.

Taste of Italy

By Equinox03 |

My friend and I had the pleasure of dining here on a Saturday night. We went out of our comfort zone and tried the tasting menu. It was quite a bit of food, but allowed us to try a broad range of food, we might not of normally ever ordered before. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful, especially in choosing a wine to accompany our meal. Definitely save room for dessert.

Pasta!!

By TLMatino |

Homemade pasta...that's all you need to know! Even know it sounds "plain" the pasta with butter and sage (Tajarin Con Burro e Salvia) was SO good. Cool place with great food!

Incredible food, poor service

By Simma Nu D |

The food is wild. Really tasty. The service..... well I very very seldomly tip 10 percent or less but the service was poor. The waiter started by trying to dictate what we should order and was generally uninterested in our experience. But again.... the food was to die for.

It is really as good as its reputation!

By travel-world-mom |

Spinasse's Tajarin has earned enough accolades to overfill its small space. I am usually suspicious when an American Italian restaurant receives a high mark from American media about its pasta, having been to Bologna area in Italy. Naturally I was very cautious before I went, trying to tune down my expectation so as not to be disappointed. But Spinasse's Tajarin (both dishes) is really as good as they claimed and better! This is an authentic Italian pasta---not greasy, not salty, not overcooked but full of flavor--simple elegance. The milk braised pork shoulder is also outstanding. This is one of the best pasta shops in US. In addition to the food, Spinasse is perhaps one of the best prepared restaurant for COVID. They took the mask and social distancing very seriously. I felt very safe there. .

Special Seattle restaurant features north-Italy style!

By Carol I |

Delicious anti-pasti appetizers, Aperol & Compari spritzers, and chef-made Tajarin pasta with ragu or sage & butter! We especially loved their tiramisu for dessert!!!

Pretentious

By SKCYCLES |

To start: Food was good, not great. Portions were very small and overpriced. We started at the bar for Happy Hour at 5. The Maitre Dei rushed us out of the bar for our 530 reservation. I thought that was very rude. I come to Seattle a lot but would not come here again.

First class in Seattle

A light supper, a good wine, all one needs to restore the spirit. I wish I were here in Seattle longer so I could sample the delectables on the menu. Recommend this restaurant highly.

Unpretentious Excellence

By Chris V |

My wife and I visited Spinasse for the first time in October. The ambiance is pleasant and comfortable with an open kitchen where you can see the chef at work (which we love). The service was excellent, with our waiter always there when we needed him and never when we didn’t. The phone was phenomenal, with a variety of uncommon and tasty food. We ordered the sweet breads, the rabbit meatballs and pastas as well. All were excellent. We highly recommend Spinasse and intend to come back soon ourselves.

Italy in Seattle

By jtssea |

What a tried & true gem of a staple. In Seattle. The pastas are sublime. Tgey offfer a great tasting menu in addituon to ala carte menu. Tge tasting menu is $105pp and us great for 2 ppl. We have found if you 3 ppl.you really gwt the same amount of food as you would for 2. Likrwise if you have 4 ppl.you are better off ordering ala carte as you can get mire food that way and it is not as expensive. They have a thoughtful cocktail menu and wine list. They have a $25 or $30 corkage fee which is reasonable. Desserts are very nice. The standout entree was the pork. The antipasto platter has wonderful selections with light handed nuances & flavors. Genuine casual quality service! Reservations needed.

Good times with Kody!

By Leslie Davenport |

We went here with my son who lives close by to this excellent Italian restaurant. We started with a Antipasto Misto Della Casa (yum). My son had the Gnocchi and my husband and I had the special ( rib and pasta with brazed pork shank ) that was die for. Add a bottle of wine and a couple mixed drinks and the party was well on it's way. Service was good and atmosphere quite nice.

Great restaurant that lives up to the hype

By John O |

Wow, what a great restaurant. Fully lived up to the hype with outstanding Italian cuisine, particularly the pasta courses. Don’t miss the tajarin, so very good.

Excellent

By frogbog |

Experience excellent as expected. Ambiance is excellent. Service is very goodie a bit stuffy. Pasta is the highlight period. Had king salmon too but it was only ok. Overdone. However, everything else we had was outstanding. Salads, pastas, bread, wine. Highly recommended.

Flavorful Italian Food in Capitol Hill

By C W |

We had heard great things about Spinasse and wanted to give it a try! The menu had a moderate number of options, but would likely not be a great option for vegetarians or anyone with a dietary restriction. Upon further asking, or waiter told us that they could not make additional vegetarian dishes. Their wine menu is focused on north Italian which is something to keep in mind if you have specific preferences. Their most notable/popular dish is the egg noddle pasta with sage butter (which was great) but we actually preferred the gnocchi special. Much like other Capitol Hill restaurants, tasteful decor, attractive waiters and pricy food.

Ridiculous deal!

By dolfandoug |

This restaurant was recommended to us by a server at another restaurant and so we decided to give it a try. We figured it would be good but the "Everything on the menu for $100 pp" was a steal! The amount of food was more than enough and every dish was delicious. The starter dish was a giant serving of delicious prosciutto that could have been a meal on its own. Unique dishes, great wine selection, great service - it's perfect. Take some friends to this place and take on the $100pp for everything on the menu dinner and you will not only leave satisfied you will have a to go box with a couple of more meals in it. Go try this before the restaurant figures out they are underpricing this program!

Wonderful Experience!

By clareeScottsdale_Az |

The restaurant is small, quaint and rustic with an open kitchen and we could see the gentlemen making the mounds of homemade pasta! We had read reviews so knew some of the dishes we wanted to try but left some selections up to Seth, our delightful waiter. He suggested 4 items as we could get some as a half-order or full order. We started with the Antipasti . . different and delicious selections from pea and cauliflower relish, proscuitto with the greatest bread ever, baby artichoke hearts in an addictive aioli and mixed greens. We also had the Tagini (?) pasta with butter and sage, the baby agnolettis with lamb and finally braised short ribs wrapped in swiss chard! Some of these items we might not have ordered, but were so glad we did - almost licked our plates. The service is warm and friendly with no pretense - had a meighborhood feel and we also had a great bottle of wine also suggested by Seth. Spectacular food!

Don’t Waffle...Book Today

By TDMD10 |

I walked in as a single at 5 PM when Spinasse opened; good thing, because if I had been any later, I wouldn’t have gotten a seat. This is a small and very popular restaurant, so plan well in advance. I was seated at the bar overlooking the open kitchen. They have 7 seats on one side and 6 on the other. Table seating can’t be more than 60 or so. I was served by Seth and it was a sublime experience. Typical of the entire team at Spinasse, Seth was sure-footed and most interested in making sure I had a memorable meal. Rather than rattling off popular dishes or the ones he preferred, he queried me to see where my interests lay in and then subtly guided me to great choices. The caramelized cauliflower flan was an unexpected hit and started things off on solid footing. The wine he suggested, the Banfi La Lus was a great fit for that course and my main. I had read the reviews of the Tagarin al Ragu and never wavered. Don’t think twice, order this dish and order a second one to take home. During the meal, I was mesmerized by James making the butternut squash ravioli. What an artist! I read of Daniel Humm at Eleven Madison Park in NY, a Michelin 3-star, who said a chef should have their focus on one discipline and perfect it. Only then should they move on. Well, James is at that point with ravioli. An artist. After considerable rest, I moved to the dessert course and was torn between the Semifredo and the Tirmisu. I asked Seth to pick one and bring it to me. To my surprise, he brought the Tiramisu but a very nice tasting of the Semifredo as well. Christmas came early! The kitchen here is flawless. It moves in unison, there is no rushing about and that trait carries to the front of the house as well. Graceful, yet casual, never appearing when not needed and seemingly always there when you would like some help. The prices are extremely fair, the food is off the charts and the service is impeccable. So what are you waiting for...

Amazing Italian Food!

By Jeff20182018 |

This is a wonderful place! I went with a group and ordered a bunch of food (appetizers, main dishes, and desserts) and tried everything, it was great! Very authentic feel, taste, and vibe. They have family style dishes there but you don't necessarily have to share. The service was top notch as the people showed real passion for the restaurant. I cannot wait to go back!

Unreal. Amazing service, Luis was phenomenal

By Sean Gordon |

Unreal. Amazing service, Luis was phenomenal and made the delicious dinner 10x better because he was 100% in it and on it. He enjoyed his job and it showed, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Luis knowledge was great and his attitude was top notch - i have and will recommend this place to everyone that will listen. Truly amazing service made the meal taste even better.

Great pasta

By DJ139 |

This is a friendly, funky restaurant with a great vibe, friendly staff, and delicious pastas. Decent wine list too. We skipped the antipasti and secondi and gorged on pasta - tajarin, thin strands in just the right amount of butter and sage, and gnocchi with lobster. Also tried the delicious cauliflower with bagna cauda. Delicious.

Back in Italy!

By Tenfish |

This restaurant specializes in the Piedmont experience. Each dish was perfectly prepared and very typical of the region. The waitress was a little annoying by trying to show off her (limited) wine knowledge, but aside from this Spinasse is a must for dining in Seattle. It is cheaper to eat here than getting the same (or lesser) experience in Italy!

Best Italian food in Seattle

By yummyaddict111 |

This romantic dinner from A to Z was sublime. The menu fresh and short blew our mind. Im still dreaming of the beef cheeks. The service was professional with a very knowledgeable sommelier. The wine list had the best sipping of Italy and The look of the place is cozy and charming. I will recommend this restaurant to anyone in Seattle.

Wonderful pasta......but

By MilleMiglia75 |

We had been wanting to eat at Spinasse for some time, with most reviews quite good. On arrival, we found a welcoming staff, and typical Seattle upscale rustic decor. Upon seating, my first attention was to the wine list, which I found to be quite a shock. I am no stranger to West coast wine, and not terribly familiar with Italian wines, even after recently having spent 3 weeks in Tuscany and Umbria. However, in my experience in dining at restaurants throughout the west, I have never seen a wine list with the vast majority of wines priced from $90 to over $400. We settled for a recommended Barbera d'Alba at $90+ and were not impressed. The food however, is a different story. The antipasti bruschetta I had was lovely, though my wife wasn't impressed with her selection. The pasta. Never have I had such wonderful pasta. Totally different from any pasta I have ever had. Rolled paper thin and hand cut to amazing slivers. Great ragu. My wife's gnocchi was equally lovely. Dessert was great as well. Overall, I was and still am puzzled by the level of staffing. The were at least 15 people on staff in a restaurant that seats maybe 60. I could see a staff of maybe 10, but 15? Reflecting on our experience it was good, but the ultimate assessment of a restaurant to us is, would we return? In this case, the answer is no. We know of other great Italian restaurants in Seattle we would rather attend.

Remembrances of Italy… Il Espresso Fa Schifo! (Italian Translation: their espresso sucks!)

By tonylikestoeat |

Our second time dining at Trattoria Spinasse, I thought it necessary to write a review. For those of you who like short, to the point reviews – it may be best to move on to the next. I believe that nostalgia comes through flavor, and being from Italy, they hit on several points through their offerings. The location, setting, environment and even smells bring remembrances of Italian Trattorias – with rustic presentations, table tops, mix-matched silverware, etc... The unpretentiousness of Spinasse, has a laid back and welcoming “Come As You Are” feel in Seattle. We were seated immediately as we had reservations booked several months in advance. The hostess, waitress* and staff were very polite and attentive (*waitress at the end just brought our bill after a while of not checking in on us as she was busy, and I felt as though her business with us was done – so this indeed felt very Italian, so they did not give me the opportunity to voice my opinion regarding their Espresso…). For beverages, we requested they provide a red wine paring along with the food we ordered – a 2007 Barolo Reserve, which paired excellently with our choices. Their special for the evening was an appetizer of beef crudo (tartare) with caper berries – which we immediately decided, along with the Prosciutto, Squash Blossoms, and for entrees we had the Tajarin with butter and sage, and the lamb agnolotti. And to finish, we had the tiramisu, zuppa Inglese and moka espresso for desert. They first served a crostini with slight butter and anchovy – that sets the palate up just right for the first course. The succulent crudo was a take on a deconstructed salami – the caper berries, along with I believe was a hit of fennel, reminded me of salami, which was served with several crostini slices. This transitioned well to the prosciutto with carefully selected melon – the prosciutto prepared in the preferred way: thinly sliced, and scooped balls of melon. The tender prosciutto melts in your mouth, while slapping the back of your tongue with an amazing flavor of salted pork. The lightly fried squash blossoms filled with ricotta and a slight lemon glaze resets the palate before the main course very nicely – given much thought in the order these items were served. Next came the Tajarin & Agnolotti – The Tajarin is best eaten quickly while hot. The explosion of simple flavors (pasta, butter, sage and cheese), making it one of their signature dishes. The lamb agnolotti, with the light reduction sauce, balances well together – not too heavy, and truly represents the Northern Italian Fair. Concluding the evening, came the desert and coffee – I did not try the Tiramisu, however, my wife said “she has had better” given she has been to Italy half a dozen times. It was light on the Espresso (which will make more sense later)… The Zuppa Inglese has a subtle lemon tanginess with the sweet blueberries, that blend well in this semi-sweet desert – another point that Italian’s don’t like their deserts overly sweet. Lastly, and unfortunately, comes the Espresso… According to several sources: “Espresso is generally thicker than coffee brewed by other methods, has a higher concentration of suspended and dissolved solids, and has crema on top (a foam with a creamy consistency). As a result of the pressurized brewing process, the flavors and chemicals in a typical cup of espresso are very concentrated.” I am not a scientist, chemist, nor barista, but I am Italian and know that whatever was served, is not Espresso. I could tell just by the smell of the coffee when it was brought out. Now, the proprietors may respond stating that many people do not like the actual strength of Espresso served in a Bialetti Moka Express Pot, however, this would be a false pretense or false marketing by giving people all of the wonderful culinary luxuries this establishment offers as Italian cuisine, yet, falls irreparably short of preparing and selling “Espresso” in the nation’s capital of espresso is heartbreaking. To illustrate my point, I have included 2 pictures (the above being what was served from Spinasse), the second being what I made at home. I would give Spinasse a 4.5, however, they don’t allow ½ stars and due to the fact that espresso is such a large part of Italian cuisine and culture, a full star is knocked off… Aside from the lack of Espresso – we were there 2 hours, which felt a matter of minutes. It was a delightful experience, transporting me back to long dining experiences during Summers in Italy… I believe this is the best Italian cuisine on the West Coast.

Fantastic Italian with Piedmontese flair

By hanalea |

This is a wonderful restaurant. The place is very warm and the staff is knowlegable. We did bring a bottle of Barolo and the corkage was a modest $20. We started with Insalata cicoria: Chicory salad with toasted pumpkin seeds, goat cheese, cranberries and persimmon.and Tonno di Conigliio: Herb-poached rabbit with hazelnuts and local squash. Both were heavenly. Then Tajarin al ragu: Fine hand cut egg pasta with pork and beef ragu-this was great ragu. Then Secundi-Pancetta ripiena: Rolled pork belly filled with prosciutto and herbs with poached quince. This was probably the most interesting dish after the rabbit. And accompanied by Cavolfiore con bagna caoda: Roasted cauliflower with bagna caodal, a lovely veggie side. By this time we were full, but hey, why not try the lucious Semifredo di nocciola: Hazelnut semifreddo with vanilla shortbread. We can't wait to go back!!

amazing lunch

By Samantha |

In terms of value, I must admit that the overall experience didn't quite justify the high price. Additionally, waiting almost a month for a reservation might not be worth the effort, considering there are other dining options available that offer better value for the price. While the food itself was excellent, the overall experience may not be worth the long wait and high cost.

Poor service

By Sue R |

Food is fabulous. We had a reservation for 7:30pm and only got seated at 8:30pm as the people who had our table had been there since 5:00pm and were not moving. I understand the hesitancy to encourage people to leave but if you are going to turn tables be open about it! The fact that they never offered us anything to compensate for the hour wait is not what one expects from such a highly regarded restaurant.

Superb in every respect

By Kamala4812 |

If you're looking for outstanding, beautifully prepared Italian food, this place should be at the top of your list. The setting is pleasant and unpretentious, with an expansive bar and a couple dozen tables. Servers are prompt, friendly, and well informed. But it's the food that sets Spinasse apart from its competitors. My dinner companion and I enjoyed well-prepared cocktails while we perused the menu. The two of us then shared the Antipasti Misto Della Cassa--generous portions of four of the antipasti, all of which were delectable in their own way. (My personal favorite was the Capricciosa, a delicious combination of arugula, fennel, green beans, and tomatoes, tossed with a fennel-pollen mayonnaise.) The antipasti combo is pricey perhaps, at $31, but considering the generous portions and the cost of the individual menu items, it turned out to be an excellent value. A vegetarian could be happy ordering this alone. Our entrees were similarly impressive. My companion had the rabbit meatballs, delicately flavored and served over sauteed peppers and polenta; while I savored every bit of my agnolotti--tender, postage-stamp-sized ravioli. I'm glad the server suggested I get the larger-size portion (pastas are offered in small or dinner-sized portions), because I left nothing behind on my plate! We were too full for dessert, so I can't comment on that part of the menu, but given the quality of the dishes we tried, I would bet there are winners there as well. Spinasse offers elegant dining in a neighborhood that's not at all elegant, and diners ranged widely in age and attire. You'll feel comfortable whether you're wearing a business suit/dress or a pair of shorts and a T shirt. One thing I'll keep in mind next time we go: get a seat at the end of the bar where a big glass window offers a view of pasta in the making. Quite a show!

So good we went there twice!

By JKlondon09 |

Sage and butter pasta - that is all you need to remember. If you do one thing in Seattle you must taste this amazing pasta. During our 5 nights in Seattle, we came here twice. With a trip to Alaska breaking up,our stay all we could think about was returning to taste this dish again - it truly is that good. As an added bonus we were lucky enough to have Bertrum as our waiter on both occasions. Not only did he look as good as the pasta tasted, he was a true professional, font of knowledge and a ray of sunshine.

An Italian Gem!

By TravelWriter7 |

This casual unassuming restaurant in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood serves some of the best authentic Italian dishes in or out of Italy. Homemade pastas are delicious, prepared al dente and never over-sauced. Fiori di zucca as good as Rome. Friendly service. Desserts not quite as strong.

Delicious and Filling!

By WhitneyLUSA |

My partner and I tried the tasting menu ... which was worth it because now when we go back we will definitely know what to order ... but which was very filling. If you go for the tasting menu, go (very) hungry and still pace yourself! All of the starters and all of the pastas were delicious! It would be hard to recommend one dish because we loved them all. Excellent friendly service as well.

Years of great memories ruined in one visit

By Laura P |

My husband and I had one fave date night spot. Even after moving to the east side. It’s spinasse. 10 ish years ago while living in SLU we stumbled upon a little known restaurant and instantly felt at home. We became close with many servers and especially the incredible manager Angela. For years this was “our place”. After most of the service staff and Angela left, we continued to visit, abeit not as regularly, but often. We always received great service and incredible food. Unfortunately this Friday things changed. We arrived and despite the awkward greeting we’re SO happy to be there. (As inside note the host was incredible, kind and super friendly). Once sat, the server greeted us and was upset we were ok with tap water. I then asked about a staple appetizer that wasn’t on the listed menu but in the past we have been told to just ask about it. She rolled her eyes at me and said “we don’t do specials here, if it’s not on the menu it’s not on the menu”. We were so shocked as we’ve never received anything but a warm welcome at spinasse. This wasn’t it. We shrugged it off. (My husband later said it was hard to watch her be so rude to me over such a kindly asked innocent question). When the server came back to the table she spotted a bottle of wine we had brought in (something we have never done in the 10 plus years of being patrons) It was a gift from my boss and we were celebrating a big work milestone (none of which I even got to explain nor would they have cared). We had looked on the website and called and both sources informed us of a $40 corking fee which we were fine with. The server approached and aggressively said “ we serve that bottle here so you’ll have to pay the list price of $90”. I replied “omg I’m so sorry we had no idea you served it and we’ve never done this before. It was a gift from my boss and we are celebrating. I didn’t know”. She told us she would go get the wine director. The wine director came over with a wine list in her hand and slammed it down on the table and said “my server tells me you’ve already been made aware of our policy, thanks for understanding. Here the wine list, please make a selection and let us know.” We were honestly HUMILIATED. We were made to feel like criminals. We can afford any wine on the list but we’re trying to have a moment and the delivery was super harsh and terrible. Honestly, they could have delivered this msg in so many better ways. Again we were like “ok don’t let it ruin the night”. My husband was texting the babysitter to make sure they got the DoorDash for their dinner and the server comes over and rolls her eyes and laughs and says. “Wow I can see you’re trying to do some research. I’d be happy to send my sommelier over”. My husband replied that that’s not what we were looking at. Honestly at this point we’re done. We had been embarrassed, educated and shamed. We looked at each other and made the choice to leave. My husband said we should tell them why we were so upset. I said “no it’s Friday night they are busy and I don’t want to be a Karen. I will call on Monday and leave a voicemail letting them know we had a bad experience and if they want to chat about it they can call me back, if not cool.” We brokenheartedly went to another restaurant after hiring a sitter and driving 40 Mins for our used to be fave place. Today we received an email that was beyond rude. Once again chastising us for bringing in a bottle and telling us (after spending thousands of dollars over the years) DONT COME BACK. (See attached image). I was flabbergasted. Again to be clear about the bottle we called and consulted the website. Both told us no prob, $40 corking fee. But above and beyond the wine issue, the rudeness of the server pushed us to leave. I cannot believe the arrogance of this place. I’m so brokenhearted to leave this review because this was our home away from home for so many years. We will never go back.

Incredible meal

A bit of a wait for a week night, but well worth it. All of the pasta is fresh and homemade. I didn’t have a plate I didn’t like. Wonderful.

Why Spend the Money Traveling to Italy?

By datawest20 |

This is one great Italian restaurant. I could sit and watch the chef making fresh pasta all night. We at here two nights in a row. Absolutely order the antipasti sampler. It is surprisingly generous and delicious, The dishes included salad, prosciutto, pork in tuna mayo, and English peas. The first night we also ordered the roasted artichoke special which was also fabulous. The first night I had the cavatelli with mushrooms. The next night I went with the cappelletti with goat ragu. You have got to be kidding. I have eaten Italian all over the world, including Italy. This is as good as it gets.

Finally Tried Spinasse

By Todd A |

After being told repeatedly that we needed to try Spinasse we finally did. I would say that it largely lived up to its reputation. The staff were extremely professional but also friendly. The menu had enough variation to make it possible for several different experiences but we made the mistake of ordering a succession of incredibly rich dishes rather than something light and crisp between the rich items. That said, everything was exceptional, if a bit much, but we had a great dinner and would highly recommend Spinasse, not that they need our endorsement.

Piedmont food and wine at its best

By Paul F |

If we are in Seattle we go to Spinasse. Every course was a treat. Had great Barbera d'Alba. Wonderful and knowledgeable service.

Delicious, authentic Italian

By BocatravelersFlorida |

This is one of the best upscale Italian restaurants I've been to. Don't expect to be stuffed after your meal but do expect to receive a treat for your palate. The bartenders are good at their craft. Two of us ordered a beef ragu with egg noodles. The ragu was not tomato based but had a rich beefy flavor. My wife ordered the halibut which was moist and perfectly cooked. The staff was well trained and accommodating.

Spinasse

A fantastic find on Capital Hill for a couple of Seattle natives. Wonderful fresh pasta dishes but more important, the 1/2 portions is what makes it special. More opportunity to try more of their great food.

Great Date Night!

By misopiso88 |

Two of us were looking for a nice dinner spot in Seattle and decided on Spinasse. DELISH! We ordered 4 different items and shared them all. A memorable night and a lovely meal. Without a doubt, we will be back. Highly recommend that you make a reservation!

5 years later and still as good as I remembered it

By Franz K |

Had THE best experience here when I visited Seattle last time (see previous review). After COVID and the political riots, I was a little concerned going back. However, glad I did! Their Antipasti, Pasta and Desserts, combined with a Bottle of Banfi Red makes all bad around you disappear! Still as good as I remembered it and hope it will not be another 5 years to go back there!

Quant location, good food and service but not spectacular.

By Lori M |

We'd heard wonderful things about Spinasse so made reservations weeks in advance for a Saturday evening dinner. I received a text message to confirm my reservation a few days prior. I replied immediately to confirm. A few days later I received a phone call confirming my reservation. I'm not sure why one confirmation isn't enough. We arrived at 5:30pm on a Saturday night. The restaurant was half-full at this point. We were seated at a very small table for 2, situated practically on top of the table next to us. We are completely comfortable with dining in small spaces but we were extremely close to the lovely couple next to us. Our server was pleasant and helpful. We found the menu to be limited but made selections, the salmon, pasta with butter and sage, and cucumber salad. The salad wasn't very flavorful and not worth $15. The sage and butter pasta (small portion) was flavorful but definitely a small portion. The salmon was very flavorful but served with the skin on top. We enjoyed a bottle of wine and passed on dessert. It was a nice meal but certainly not what we'd expected for the hype. The restaurant started to fill up as we were leaving. We had made future reservations but will be canceling after this experience. It was nice but not outstanding.

Kathleen provided exceptional service!

By Rachel Faith F |

Exceptional service by Kathleen! Will never forget the experience, due to her warmth and professionalism. Food was out of this world -- every bite was better than the next, but she is what we left talking about. MGMT is lucky to have her!

Excellent food and service

By BendRNA |

Went for our anniversary dinner, we were not disappointed - the food and service were both exceptional. Started off the experience with a glass of Asti (as every good meal should start), then had the Antipasto misto della casa - which was four different plates - each one was excellent - I especially liked the Insalta Di Peperoni. For main course I had teh Tajarin al Ragu and my wife had the Cavatelli con ragu di Costolette di manzo. Hard to decide which one was best - so very yummy

Great food, excellent service!

By Barb0718 |

I called to say I was going to be very late, and would miss my reservation. As a single, eating early is always the best bet. The restaurant found a seat for me when I arrived. The restaurant is upscale and unexpected Italian. You will find fresh new combinations in appetizers and entree plates. There is a very nice wine selection. You won't be disappointed if you eat here.

Exceeded expectations!

By hashtagcrinny |

Amazing experience all around! Had researched Italian restos in Seattle, and this seemed to be number 1... impromptu decision to have early meal when I happened to be in the area and sat at the 'dining counter', not the bar. There's a big difference as at the bar you can't see the master pasta maker perform his craft- from which you can't look away! Wasn't familiar with any of the wines, but the great staff had me try several before selecting one. The staff was very attentive, whether it was the manager or any of the other wait staff- service was great! The beet salad w oranges, hazel nuts, and goat cheese was amazing. I ordered the 'tajarin al ragu' which was delicious! The ragu had great flavor. They were offering a white truffle shave over several of the dishes for another $35- I passed and was still more than happy with my meal! I then ordered an espresso- which comes a little percolator for a second serving! And the 'torta al cioccolato' was amazing! The toasted and crumbled brutti ma buoni on the outside of this little (I couldn't finish it) circular amazingness was really good! Fun (but not annoying) to have lots on the menu I had to ask what the items were- and the staff was more than gracious to explain things in detail! All this for a $63 dollar tab-I definitely will go back!

Best Pasta I've Ever Had (and I make homemade pasta all the time)

By Is_brea_taisteal |

Absolutely amazing dinner- highly recommend for the following reasons: 1. We didn't have reservations, which ended up being perfect because that meant we got seated at the bar. This provided us a great show in watching the sous-chef make pasta all night. He was awesome enough to come out to say hi, share what he was doing and how certain dishes were prepared, and provide advice. 2. Great wine recommendation from waiter. While the first bottle opened was corked (it happens- that's why you smell it), the second was incredible and paired perfectly with our dinner. LOVE Barolo. 3. OMG the food. We ordered larger pasta dishes expecting to take leftovers home: that didn't happen. Each dish was amazing (we had the onion small dish, the egg noodles with white truffles, the agnolotti, and then whatever that pork belly main dish was). I woke up because I was still full at 2pm-- way too much food, but it was all awesome. That pasta was the best we've ever had. 4. The service matched the food. The host was correct that we had a 45 minute wait and recommended Tavern Law to wait at (which was a great recommendation). Our waiter was friendly, attentive and helpful. The sous-chef was awesome. It's a quaint place that is worth visiting-- we'll be back.

Good, but overrated

By 42519 |

We dined at Spinasse recently, and while the service was great and the atmosphere authentic, the food was good but not note worthy. The squash ravioli was the best part of the meal. The Wagu beef was tender but exceedingly rare and for $62 should have been cooked as inicated (medium rare). The risotto with lamb was flavorful but overly salty.,The Tiramisu disappointed as well. For the price I would pursue other options.

Unless piemonte is a Seattle neighborhood, this restaurant has nothing to do with italy

By marco s |

Not even if i lost myself in the alaska wilderness for years and this would be the only place to eat i would go back to this place. I beg the owners to please take away from their advertising that it is an italian restaurant, please please and please stop false advertising.

OUTSTANDING!!

By Elissa V |

I just don’t have the words to describe the most amazing meal I just had at Spinasse. My family comes from the Piedmont area of Italy and finding this little restaurant that has captured the soul and essence of the wines and food of that area was an absolute gift. If you enjoy true Italian delights, make this a priority.

Fresh pasta!

By Debbie T |

Must do for fresh pasta - always several seasonal choices on the menu. The pasta is dreamy - prepared perfectly with simple sauces to really show them off. Don't get me wrong, the rest of the menu looks great too - I just don't get fresh pasta very often so don't get past that section of the menu. The service is good and the servers are very well-versed in the menu and the wine list. The décor is simple, casual and comfortable. And there is parking next door. I'll continue to come back!

Piemonte New World

By MDrooster |

The affectation of this small cozy restaurant 10 min cab from downtown is that all food and drink are authentic Piemontese. The menu is small but exquisite,4 primi, 4 secondi. House made pastas, indeed batches made while you watch the open kitchen, feature the Piemonte special tajarin 2 ways. These are a beehive mound of hair thin egg noodles sauced with butter, cheese and herbs or an intense ragu. We tried one of each. Our secondi were braised mixed meats wrapped in chard braised with an intense Barolo sauce. As predicted the wine list has only Piedmont bottlings,a wide selection of barbarescs, barolos, gattinara, Nebbiolo. We took a trip to Seattle to dine in Piemonte New World.

Enjoyable Dinner

By irawine |

My wife and I recently had an enjoyable dinner at Spinasse. We ordered two of their homemade pasta dishes -- butter and sage and ragu and definitely preferred the ragu dish by a wide margin. We both ordered the beef cheeks, which were really tasty. I would order those again in a heartbeat. All in all, this was an enjoyable experience and I would recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for good Northern Italian cuisine.

Great pasta

By Liam C |

Excellent Italian restaurant. Probably my favorite , including those in NYC. Service was a bit slow at times, but that is ok because in Seattle I felt very rushed at many of the restaurants. They seem to want you in and out , but Spinasse was chill and much more upscale. I will def return when back in Seattle

Went for the pasta. Going back for the onions.

By Amanda M |

We popped in on a Saturday night with no reservation. They happily sat us at the counter in front of the pasta station. That was an added benefit! If you're alone or with one other person, I'd highly recommend sitting at the counter. We ordered the stuffed cipollini onions to start. Do not miss this dish! They're sweet and savory and the most perfectly prepared starter to a fantastic meal. The pasta with the duck sauce was amazing. The rabbit meatballs were perfect. We will definitely go back.

Italian Charm

By ardis5 |

A charming Italian restaurant. Food was very flavorful, unique and filling. I would recommend this place for a romantic dinner for two or a girls night. Italian speciality drinks were lovely I had the April Spritz and really enjoyed it.

Fabulous on all accounts

By Rosetwig |

We chose Spinasse after reading recommendations on the local press. Of the 20 top Seattle restaurants, we eliminated the ones too far from our hotel, one with a dress code, a few not serving outdoors (it’s still COVID time as I wrote this) and landed on Spinasse. What perfect luck!!! We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and we’re graciously shown to a table that met all of my requests when I made the reservation. Our server was lovely and went out of her way to help us plan a perfect meal. We started with two appetizers… prosciutto with a bit of apple…. Fabulous if you love prosciutto. The star for us was the stuffed cippolini topped with a rich broth; the kitchen runner who brought it to the table correctly predicted we’d finish our bread soaking up the sauce. We split a green salad, then feasted on three outstanding pasta dishes. The rabbit angliotti special, a beef ragu over a thin pasta and mushroom cavatelli were knockouts. All pasta was house made and really well done. They offer a nice selection of Piedmonte wines, with the option is 3 serving sizes or the bottle. We travel to Italy, and dine out often and are happy to say this rates in our top 10 dining experiences. We’ve spent a lot more in return for a lot less. Perfect way to spend our last night in Seattle.

Fantastic Food & Service

By Glen K |

We went back to Spinasse after 2 years. The first visit was memorable and things were not different this time. We had great server, Karin, who understood what we wanted and she and chef(s) did not disappoint. We enjoyed dishes like the Tajarin, hand cut pasta with butter & sage; Risotto with egg yolk and celery leaves. If you have the opportunity to dine here, take it!

Superb pasta

By BorisZ |

The rabbit pasta was absolutely perfect. Serves wine by the glass, quarter, half or full bottle. Excellent service and a great vibe. Highly recommend.

Excellent Pasta

By 100QA |

The staff is very good and the setting is nice though a bit noisy. The pasta is pricey but the quality is excellent. Appetizers were just fair. Enjoy!

Good Northern Italian on Capitol Hill

By brmusicman |

We dined here on a Tuesday evening. We enjoyed our experience! The restaurant focuses on the food of Northern Italy and has a small menu meant for sharing. We enjoyed all of our dishes. The arugula salad with prosciutto was especially delicious—some of the best prosciutto I’ve ever tasted, and a wonderfully flavorful dressing on the salad. We ordered a simple pasta with butter and sage; the presentation wasn’t beautiful, but the pasta itself was delicious—perfect texture, beautifully flavored sauce. A crespelle with Italian plums and cheese was also tasty. Service was welcoming and efficient—not outstanding, but good. The decor fits the Northern Italian theme of the restaurant and emphasized a rustic feel; chairs were a little on the uncomfortable side, though, and the lighting was a bit dark. Overall, a very good experience; I’d certainly return if in Seattle and in the Capitol Hill area.

Good food; loud for clients

By iAmRobertJohansson |

The restaurant met my expectations for a formal business setting. The food was well-prepared, and the service was efficient. However, the noise level occasionally made focused conversation challenging. For a more discreet meeting, a quieter setting might be preferable. The pricing is on the higher end, so it solidified the image of our company's success.

Double Birthday Celebration

By Diann M |

We booked this restaurant to celebrate both my 26 year old daughter's birthday and my 62nd birthday tonight. We've been trying to get in at this restaurant for awhile. We had a lovely dinner and spent over $500. Food was good and service was good. Our reservation was at 6:45 and at 9:00, the hostess came to our table to tell us we had to leave as our reservation was over. As my daughter pointed out, we could have spent the night in an expensive Manhattan hotel for a night or flown to any US city for $500 and to have them tell us to leave was insulting. We eat out a lot in Seattle but we won't be returning to Spinasse where they clearly don't value their customers.

Delicious meal

By Bonniebelle |

The server here was spot on with everything he suggested. Had the signature pasta dish with sage and butter and it was so light and tasty. Loved watching the cooks make the pasta from our table. Highly recommend.

High Ratings for both the Food & Service

By Hal L |

Food and service was excellent. The risotto was very tasty with the hint of chili oil. The egg based pasta with sage butter was excellent as well. Highly recommend, but be sure to make a reservation as the place is relatively small.

Amazing Evening

By Erin N |

We were in Seattle for three evenings and we could have eaten here every night we would have. Food was fresh, fabulous and very thoughtfully prepared. Wine selection was amazing - especially if you like red wines which we do. Service was excellent too. This is the closest I have had to the food I ate in Italy. Amazing evening.

Menù Speciale

By JL |

The owners added some magic to the evening when the menù degustazione was available with wine pairing. The visible kitchen gave the impressions of a cucina italiana di rustica and an intimate workshop [seeing through the inner wooden window still.] The latter was compelling as fresh ravioli is prepared with the cutter wheel (una rotella di taglio) as a final touch. Although, the seating was relatively quick when opting for the bar area, the wait time may take a bit considering the homemade culinary aspects. The prepping, bread, and brief chats with the wait staff helped with passing the time. The picture shows a special chicken dish from an earlier visit, but the effect is still the same.

Awesome Dinner

By Thomas S |

A bit out of the way from downtown (Uber will get you there). Wonderful dinner and wine selection. Indoors a bit congested but we ate outside which was nice.

Ambiance, terrific food and service

The staff was very welcoming and made great suggestions. They remembered that it was a special occasion and wished my son Happy Birthday. Delicious wine and food.

World Class

By Philip G |

This was our second time experiencing Spinasse, and it was just as good the second time around. Spinasse is one of the best restaurants in Seattle and should not be missed when visiting the city. Designed with Italian rustic chic in mind, the food matches the decor. Large, hearty portions are served, and the pasta is cooked to perfection, al dente and not smothered in sauce. I began with the Uova in camicia as my appetizer, and I cooked have licked the dish. Accompanied by great bread, this could be a meal in itself, but I was not about to stop there. We shared three pastas: Tajarin con burro e salvia Tajarin al ragu - award winning Cavatelli al sugo di cinghale All three were fantastic and I had no favorites. The pastas can be ordered in two sizes, but why hinder yourself. Go for the large orders as we did. DELICIOUS!!! Service was wonderful and the wine list unique. Spinasse would be a great Italian restaurant in any city in the world, including Milano, Bologna, Roma, or Firenze. Spinasse is world class!

Delicious, Delightful, Delectable Dinning

By Suzskiaspenrugby |

Spinasse is one of those ‘doesn’t look so great on the street, but once you’ve entered, you are transformed into a plethora of aromas, sights, and sounds restaurants. The atmosphere is intimate with a bustle of energy that is well worth the price and wait time. Unless you have reservations, you will not be able to dine here, so be sure to call well in advance. The food is served family style in five courses and features the freshest ingredients. The delicate prosciutto comes with a melon montage and a light bread accompaniment. Begin with a signature cocktail, and choose from a well balanced wine list. The pasta is freshly made in house and is a treat for the discerning palate. The food is indicative of Northern Italy so flavors are subtle yet well balanced. Parking is a major challenge, so if Lyft or Uber are strongly recommended. Attentive servers, an opened kitchen view, and marvelous cuisine make this restaurant a must visit establishment.

Great Italian food in a cute local 'hood

By CindyClarkBar |

Spinasse was recommended to us by a local food lover, who lives in the neighborhood. And he sure steered us right. Tell them Justin sent you! The service was welcoming and attentive without being too too ... great recommendations for wine and food. Good Italian wine choices. Very nice that they offer two portion sizes of food, good for sharing and tasting more options. Loved the recommended Tajarin al Ragu with butter and sage. Charming ambiance, wonderful service, but, best of all, extraordinarily good Italian food. We walked from downtown Seattle and, although a bit uphill, it was a very pleasant walk up to build up our appetites and an even easier walk back down.

Not what it used to be

By Heidi D |

Spinasse is well known for its pasta. As a matter of fact, if you sit at the 'bar' then you can watch them create their magic in the kitchen. Except that there seemed to be a lack of magic the night I attended. I started the meal off with the artichoke hearts and hazelnuts that everyone raves about. I found it adequate but not something I would order again. I felt that it needed some salt and a bright note to give the dish some depth. For my second course, I had the crepes. These were quite tasty. They tested like mini-grilled cheese sandwiches, but not at this price. The third course was their angel hair pasta with a butter sage sauce. I was really excited about this dish as it is their specialty. What I was served was a round ball of pasta, a congealed glob. I was not the only one. I watched my neighbor cut his ball of pasta in half. It did not lose its shape. The taste matched the presentation. It was room temperature and cooling fast. Again, it needed salt (and I don't use a lot of salt) to deepen the flavors of the butter and sage. My final dish was the meatballs. I really liked this dish. It was simple, tasty, and filling. I will say that the portions are small and I had no problem finishing all but the meatballs. I was seated at the 'bar' but it is not really a bar. It is a countertop in front of the waits staff's station. While I appreciated seeing the kitchen, I wasn't very happy to have the staff constantly working in front of that view. Finally, I was disappointed in the wine. I love to pair my wine with my food. Properly paired food can elevate the whole dining experience. I stated my desire to pair each course or two with wine. I thought the waitress would send over the sommelier. Instead, she suggested their house. The wines were good, but I would have liked the sommelier to at least drop by.

Wonderful Piedmontese food in Capitol Hill neighborhood

By jskncChapelHill_NC |

In this small restaurant, the food was excellent, well-served, and authentic. A fine wine list. It is in the quiet section of the lively Capitol Hill neighborhood, near Elliot Bay Books and convenient to the bus line. A wonderful place for dinner.

Really excellent Italian

By Kenneth Pages |

Spinasse represents one of those places that does a few things extremely well. You know the food is fresh because they offer just a number of choices of what represents the best available. Everything from a delicious gift of anchovy on buttered (like the best butter ever) on a crostini. Pasta that is the perfect al dente, delicious fish of course and a wine list to match. A shout out to Mary from NC who was our server and did a really terrific job!

Quality/Pricey Italian

By 100QA |

Pros: food quality is excellent. The interior is lively. Pasta is cooked to perfection with subtle favors in the sauces. Cons:pricey and we were disappointed with the server who just wanted to turn the table. We will go back some day but not soon. That attitude definitely diminishes what could be a very good experience. This sentiment was shared by everyone at the table and I rated the restaurant higher than the others would have.

Probably the best Italian Food I have had in Washington State.

By Wklstoywife |

This is such a fantastic restaurant, such good food and drink. We were a party of four and had a reservation and were seated promptly at the correct time. We order drinks. Two of us ordered the Capella Romano, one paper plane and I don’t remember the other drink. My daughter is vegetarian so she ordered the pasta and Sage entrée and also a kale dish. Also an order of the risotto which was split between two of them. My husband and I ordered the risotto and split this which is a wonderful dish. And then I ordered the Barolo braised beef cheek. My husband ordered the duck leg. The only thing he wishes was it was a little crispier. The meal was fabulous, the food is stupendous. Our waiter Eric was fantastic and I would ask for him again. I will go back to this restaurant anytime I get the chance. But we live far away and don’t get there very often.

Hip Italian eatery

By Mike T |

We had a late night dinner and loved it. The decor is a mix of 50’s and modern which creates a funky hip vibe. Nice wine menu and great pasta. The rest of the food was more than adequate but not exceptional.

Expensive but Worth Every penny

By speninosmith |

This is not your traditional trattoria---with moderate prices and good food. Spinasse has high prices and excellent food. Bottom line, the food is worth the price. The ambiance is OK but the service is friendly and very knowledgable. The food is great and the wines are not excessive. The menu is not over-powering and is a reflection on their desire to cook an excellent meal. Do not hesitate to go a little out of your comfort zone. For example, I had the rabbit "meatballs".

Wonderful dining experience! Service, food, open kitchens, linen in the restroom.

By Sarah B |

Mom and I went here for Bday. Great service. Food was excellent...Bit pricey, but what you get is FABULOUS! Cannot complain. Nice wine selection. House made Limoncello was very sweet...could be lemoniier....

My new favorite !

By Docsmartie |

Most of my vacations revolve around finding and experiencing great new restaurants. Spinasse did not disappoint. We saw it on the Food Network and were enthralled by the description and the presentation of the pasta. We arrived in Seattle via a cruise ship. We’re lucky enough to get a reservation that was early enough to allow us to get back to the ship. We decided to do the tasting menu which consists of a small tasting of every item on the menu served family style. I repeat, every item!!! We were absolutely thrilled with the variety of flavors and textures that were presented. This is truly Northern Italian, Piedmontese food at its finest. My personal favorites of course the three different pastas. Was also absolutely amazed by the rabbit meat balls. The Bisteccia was perfect medium rare. There’s desserts were fantastic. We did the wine flights but they have wonderful Italian wine selections. Learned a lot about Italian dessert wines and grappas. Our server was fantastic the atmosphere is great. Highly, highly recommended. I would make reservations at least a few weeks to a month in advance if you know you were going to Seattle

Good, but overpriced

By Stephanie M |

I really enjoyed the food here but thought that the environment was a little stuck up and that the prices were a little outrageous for what was delivered to the table.

Great tasting menu.

By K T |

Visited Spinasse on Capitol Hill in Seattle for dinner in August 2021. Spinasse is a highly acclaimed Italian restaurant and very popular. Known for good house made pasta. We tried tasting menu and it was delicious and a lot of volume. Every dish was amazing, except for dessert tiramisu. It’s not that tiramisu was bad, but compare to all other dishes, I thought it was just ordinary. But really that’s nitpicking. Good food, good service, and good atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Spinasse 7/26/19

By Michelle M |

We showed up 10 minutes early to our reservation and were made to wait while others with 6pm reservations were sat. No explanation for this. The food was unique and I found the appetizer and dessert to be better than the entrée. My son had the small serving of the special pasta of the night which was a stuffed rabbit pasta and I had the ragu. The service was just okay.

Go in Hungry and come out full. Excellent Northern Italian food.

By Cynthia W |

Reservations are necessary: We visited this restaurant because our relatives are from the Piedmont area of Italy (northern Italy) and we have visited that area and enjoyed the food. We love this type of food and were curious how close it came to authentic. We were not disappointed. Staff was friendly and prompt. Décor was nothing special. Parking on the streets are tight in the area, but there is a parking garage right across from the restaurant that you can pay to park if you have to. Restrooms were clean and warmer than the seating area. Guest attire was everything from suits to sweat pants and hoodies. We had MENU DIGUSTAZIONE: The food was brought promptly but they allowed you to finish each course. As part of this you don’t get Contorni section in the menu. This means side dishes. So if you wanted something in the side dish section you have to order it in addition. Note that if you take the Digustanzione option (entire menu) it took the 4 of us about 2.5 hours. Our main waiter was Max, he was very good, and other staff tag teamed our table to make sure we always had water and wine in our glasses. They cleared the empty dishes almost immediately which was good, because the table was small. PROS: We had the option MENU DEGUSTAZIONE: family style tasting of every antipast, primo and secondo on the menu. ALL food was excellent. You had better be hungry because the food keeps coming. TIP: More communication from the waiter so we would have known how much more food was coming each time. We asked that the food we didn’t eat be boxed up for us to take, but it appeared this was not normal, so if that is your expectation, you should voice it. We ate all the early dishes completely then we were full when the hot dishes arrived. We should have tasted the antipasta and then ate all the hot dishes. The variety of food prepared was amazing, and presentation of each was unique. Good wine selection, but they were not very helpful in choosing which wine. CONS: REALLY; you can’t afford better seating; Seating on the HARD bench for 2.5 hrs was not comfortable. Seating on the wicker chairs was also not comfortable, and I saw no other options except bar seats at the bar. Our table setting was tight next to the window, cold draft all night. Tables are positioned VERY CLOSE together. Waites cleared our dishes and backed out of the table area to leave, not even enough room for him to turn around. This makes for the availability and probability that you will get to know the people at the tables next to you because you can’t talk or leave for the restroom without affecting your neighbors.

From Good to Good

By Steve S |

Since it was a 35th anniversary it felt right to splurge. And when you do, there should be no regrets, right? But while our meal was certainly good, it certainly was not great. Always start with the ambiance, then the service, then the food although fair to say that great food can make up for lack of the first two. That being said, because our table was literally 4" from the couple next to us, I felt like the personal space was zero. That's fine for family time restaurants but when it's a special occasion, we did not need to hear every word that was uttered from the nice couple sitting next to us. In fact we felt embarrassed to be seated so closely and to impact their birthday celebration. While we were seated at 9pm (which was on time) the table was also situated on the hallway route to the bathroom. Really, when we were seated and looked at the seating options in the room, we wondered why we had the table we had! The service was fine and in fact, she went out of her way to help with a wine selection. Otherwise, she was pleasant and friendly. However we think she gave us a bad recommendation. We were going to skip the pasta (primi) however she talked us into trying a dish that truly was no better than the stroganoff I throw together on a whim for a cheap meal at home. Do however try the English peas (antipasta)! Best we tasted. The Wagyu New York steak ($60!) was good,.... but not Great. And the last recommendation for Spinasse is this: do more than put a special candle on the table when a couple is celebrating 35 years of marriage! Yes, it's true, after we ordered a dessert (liquid) a "special candle" was brought to our table. First time we'd seen that, and we didn't know what to make of it? We spent $330 on the meal - $110 of it on the wine. No also not worth the price.

Excellent Pasta

By Alexander and H... C |

My wife and I were looking for a place close to where we were staying and found this gem. Really nice room with open kitchen concept. Our server was very friendly and helpful. Tried the butter sage pasta and(because I couldn't decide) the gnocchi and the pasta with ragu. All of them were excellent. Would definitely recommend.

Delightful Italian Joint

The food was wonderful. Very authentic, hand made pastas, much attention to details. Servers were friendly and attentive. I would definitely go back.

By far my favorite Italian restaurant in Seattle

By tombiro |

First off, let me say that I'm a sucker for food and wine from Piedmont, so I'm very much the target audience for this restaurant. Second, let me say that whether I've dined at 6PM or 10:30PM, my service, meal, wine offerings, and overall experience have been consistently fantastic. The butter and sage, as everyone raves about, is as promised, and I've only had it one other time where it even compares, and that was in Barolo. The wine list is properly built for a restaurant of this style, whether you're looking to spend $40 or $400 (or more), the staff is extremely helpful, and heck, it's fun to watch pasta be made across the room from you. Special occasion? Great. Random Wednesday dinner? Great. Family dinner? Yep. This is a go-to for any time I'm looking for a lovely meal that is as expensive as you want it to be. A glass of wine per person and a pasta dish won't break your bank, but it's highly unlikely you'll only want to try those options. Seasonal options are absolutely charming. The cipollini onions filled with sausage are ridiculous, so much so that I've absolutely re-ordered them during my meal. If tables are available, I 100% recommend people go here, every single time.

Great Greek Food

This was a great find in the Capital Hill area. It was within walking distance of our B & B, Our waiter was so fun and the place itself had a great upbeat vibe.

Exceeds expectations! Speechless!

By Companion80118 |

I could not overemphasize how delicious dinner here was! The menu sounds good, and then the actual food exceeds expectations and blows your mind! Started off with the poached egg with fontina fonduta. It was so smooth and I could have happily made a meal out of it. For the primi course, we got the ragu and spot prawn risotto. The pastas are all made in house. The pasta with the ragu was so thin and silky and such a nice texture. The risotto was insanely good. The prawns were cooked beautifully and the flavor was out of this world. For the secondi course, we had the beef cheeks with celeriac purée. Wow! The beef cheeks were fall apart tender and the purée had an amazing flavor. For two people, we went in quite hungry, ordered the quantity recommended by our lovely waiter, and left full and satisfied. We wanted to order more than our waiter recommended, but I’m glad we listened to his advice! We will definitely be returning and also bringing our out-of-town families when they visit! This honestly is a contender for best dinner I have ever had.

Great food, wine and atmosphere!

By Inger A |

This is a great foodie restaurant, they have really good food - all from the charcuterie board, cheese, appetizers and pasta mains. All the pasta is made in house so it is really fresh and tasty! Great for sharing and big group dinners if you want to go with co-workers and/or friends. Love!

Taste of real Italy! We had

By Diana L |

Taste of real Italy! We had the MENU DEGUSTAZIONE! It was amazing and worth it. With this menu choice you get to eat every dish at the restaurant. We were happily surprised! The appetizers were prosciutto di parma, instalata de uva, cappricciosa, crespelle con taleggio e funghi. We had four amazing pastas. The best one was tajarin con burro e salvia. Then we had rabbit, pork shoulder, and halibut! For dessert we had the tiramisu, panacota, and chocolate pudding. We will return for sure. Great service too!

One of the best pastas of my life! Tajarin con burro e salvia.

By Asli Aras |

I'm a fan of Italian kitchen. Found this restaurant in Seattle prior to our arrival so only empty seating was at 21.45. We had some cheese platter while waiting at their bar next door. So when we sit for dinner, we were not too hungry. But since we were there still wanted to try their specialty Pasta Tajarin. I preferred vegetarian stile, while my husband gets it with ragu. Amazing tastes! Definitely recommended. This cosy Italian trattoria should be on your Seattle agenda! Just couldn't enjoy the ambiance because of having a late seating.

Amazing authentic Italian in Seattle

Absolutely fabulous Italian eatery. The team were amazing chef presented the food himself and it was delicious. Brilliant find, they even charged my iPhone after flying that morning from the UK. Good veggie options too, would definitely recommend.

What a find!

Our son just moved to seattle and his mission was to show us some great finds in food. It had a lot of competition but we all rated this place as #1. The proscitto appetizer is a must! So much and so good. We tried all 3 of the pastas and loved every one. Very rich and flavorful. The califlower side dish and a perfectly prepared steak ended the evening. Good wine list. Our waiter was just outstanding.

Which if I was a better writer would be for this place. Simple but classic intimate setting and very attentive staff made for a wonderful evening. Please have the gnocchi and lamb ragu and the to die for Pancetta ripiena.

Rustic, cozy, and the food hits the spot

Spinasse is a small and cozy establishment on Capitol Hill. It’s been around for some time and with good reason. Many years have passed since we last visited, and the holidays were as good a time as any to see if the magic was still there. Thankfully, this recent experience exceeded my recollections. We started off with the roasted cipollini ripieni. Oh so savory, it was perfect on a cold winter’s night. Next was the antipasto misto della casa. It covered all bases, delivering a splendid cornucopia of flavors. For my pasta dish, I selected the agnolotti del plin di Coniglio. I immersed myself in its rich and comforting flavor and texture. Delightful. For the secondi, I could not pass up one of my favorites, cinghiale. So lovingly executed, I felt I was back in Tuscany. I can honestly say the dining here brought back many fond memories of countryside dining in Italy. Spinasse’s authentic food comes directly from the heart but it is also prepared with the spot-on technique. Satisfaction is guaranteed.
