I Wish this Place was Close to Home

By Pauls_Travel_Tips |

I wish this place was close to home. I ordered the Vegan Gyro with a side salad. My wife ordered the Remix Bowl. Service is walk up ordering and the food delivered to your table. The food was prompt, excellent and filling.

Mediocre

By Bryan H |

Went on a warm Friday May afternoon for food and drinks. Everything we had tasted either O.K. or worse. The mixed drink I had tasted horrible! Service was lukewarm, as well. The only thing I liked about the place was the decor. It's been a while since I was in Turkey, but I don't remember any the food I had resembling what I ate at Spitz. Won't be back.

Excellent Food/Reasonable Prices

By Terri R |

We found Spitz on Yelp and decided to try it for lunch. Great meals, there were four of us and two of us ordered salads and two ordered wraps. All were excellent with great tastes and flavors. Food came out fast and they have a full bar.

Unpretentious good food

By GaryFS |

Spitz is a nice addition to my neighborhood. The menu is very limited but the food is very good. It is pretty much only doners with mediterranean flavors and some tasty side. The atmosphere is very casual with shared table inside and smaller tables outside. The only downside for me is that the inside is very noisy due to the trendy hardscape design. Don't expect to carry on a conversation, especially if the weather is inclement and large garage type doors are closed.

Not what you would expect from a chain

Was pointed to the “quiet end” of Killingsworth through a tip off of pdx.eater Spitz, a small LA based chain, shares a generous patio space with its neighbor the Old Gold tavern and both patios were busy on a sunny Tuesday evening. were greeted by a friendly staff and service remained cheerful and as efficient as Spitz eclectic modern décor. Spitz features Turkish doner style meat in a variety of wraps, salads or over fries. A compact menu makes it easy to order your food at the bar. Off the happy hour menu tried the Doquito, rolled fried lavish bread filled with meat or cheese with mediterranean toppings. An order of "Street Cart Fries" with beef and lamb lived up to its status as a menu favorite. Bar has a nice tap list but opted for the house red Sangria. Served over chopped crisp apples it has made me rethink citrus slices forever. Would defiantly return on a warm summer night just for more Sangria and a full order of Doquitos.

Great Doner Kabobs

This is part of a small chain based in L.A.-based makes great kebabs, and this includes a weekend brunch kebab. their fries are good and their dirty fries that look like a kebab exploded on top of them, aka Street Cart Fries. The Street Cart Kebab features spit-roasted ground beef and lamb spiced with paprika, and there are other signature creations, as well as a vegetarian kebab. Cook funky space

At last, Doner Kababs

By Patricia B |

I don't like restaurants where you order at the counter. However my love of Doner Kababs forced me to ignore the fact Spitz is set up for ordering at the counter, or in their case the bar (which I prefer if can't order at the table). So much for my prejudices about service options. We stopped in for lunch. The gal bar tending had a great sense of humor, was knowledgeable about both the beers on tap and the menu. Much to my disappointment, they were out of the lamb. I decided I could make do with the Street Cart Doner with chicken. It was so good. The hot chicken, tzaziki, fresh veggies all wrapped in toasted flat bread hit the spot. When I was almost finished, the bar gal brought out a bowl of the lamb, hot off the spit. It was also mouthwatering good. I will go back to give that a try. There is a full bar with several local brews on tap. With both indoor and patio seating it is a good addition to the options in North Portland. Service was friendly and welcoming. Clearly the culture is one of providing good food, good service and letting the customers know they are happy you chose Spitz.

Simple, Fresh and Funky

Not an expansive menu by any means, but sometimes a few kebabs and Turkish street food is all you need. The Doner is a wrap of slow-roasted minced meat (beef, lamb or chicken) with a few veggies and tzaziki sauce. It's quite tasty, toothsome and filling, and there are also more traditional items like fries and/or pita, salads and bowls. The bar is smallish (but there's plenty of room to sit) but has a good selection of craft beers and wines along with select liquor. Interior offers an eclectic mix of high tables with stools or low tables, surrounded by funky murals and modern industrial exposed lighting - a pleasant atmosphere. Outside patio is fairly large but unremarkable, just a simple concrete square without much to look at. Spitz is a good addition to the hood, and although it's an offshoot of a bigger chain, it doesn't quite feel like one.

Saturday at Spitz

By Spice of Seth |

The location was easy to find, the staff was nice, and the food arrived within a solid time frame. We stopped in for dinner on Saturday night and had no issues placing an order and sitting outside on the patio; the inside was fuller and there was A TON of takeout orders while we were there. We ordered the Doquitos with Beef & Lamb, the Zesty Feta Doner with chicken, and the street fries mixed with waffle and regular fires. Overall, the food tasted fresh, and the textures were amazing, but the flavors were very similar between these three dishes. After you place your order at the bar they give you a number-table-topper and you choose your own seat. When the food arrives, they will bring it to your table. You are required to bus your table after and need to go to the bar to get refills as well. We will try this place again and venture into different dishes since we did enjoy the ambience and vibes from the restaurant location, and staff. Also, they do have a full bar a well with a ton of local beers on draft

Great Spot for Vegan Food

By Robert W |

Spitz was near our motel & we were looking for vegan fare before heading to the airport. We were most pleased with our food here. We ordered the vegan diner basket, the vegan gyro and a greek salad. The multitude of flavors and textures were so pleasing! We will definitely be coming back here on our next trip to Portland. We sent there close to opening on a Sunday, but parking was convenient and plentiful in the neighborhood.

Great local restaurant with really cool vibes!

If you are in town, venture over to North Portland and visit a local restaurant in a cute neighborhood setting. Spitz offers Mediterranean street food, a good stiff drink and local beer! Two of the best items on their menu is their Street Car doner sandwich and their sweet potato waffle fries! The sandwich itself is a reminder of good fresh Mediterranean flavors and the sweet potato waffle fries is on point, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! This is a local hangout and if you are in Portland, make it a point to eat at a local establishment and support the local businesses around town!
