Cozy, Personal Bistro

By Indy_working_mom |

My daughter and I ate here early on a Friday night without a reservation. The host was sweet declaring, "Of course I have a table for two lovely ladies!" The restaurant isn't huge, but the menu was perfect for us. We split a roasted garlic appetizer that was big enough for 4. My pasta with clams and a light wine sauce was perfect while my daughter indulged in her favorite: spaghetti and meatballs, which was also excellent. That says a lot since my Italian-American mother-in-law makes a mean meatball. The wine list was short, but interesting and allowed for experimenting with just a glass. And, importantly, they had inexpensive valet parking around the corner. We were staying at a nearby Holiday Inn to go to Universal Studios the next day. If you're in the area, worth checking out.

Not for me

By Starviagera |

Great reviews and great disappointment. The place was full and the service was lacking. Impossible to have a conversation because the place is very noisy. The service was overwhelmed. We had to chase down waiters and ask several times for service. The food was OK but not worth the price. Will not be back.

Girls lunch

OK--- not only did Mr Spumante open up the restaurant early just because we were passing through. The owner personally welcomed us at the door, served us amazing cocktails, appetizers, entres and dessert (all of them) and I don't think he charged us enough. We sat for two hours at this beautiful place and laughed and ate amazing food served by a lovely man and his incredible staff. Thank you Mr Spumante. We will be back !! ❤️❤️

Simply the best in the Valley

Good Food and Excellent Service

By Alycia602 |

I found the food to be good and the portions were a good size. I got eggplant Parmesan which was on the specialty menu but they allowed me to get it with out the special. My daughter got the diablo type paste and my mom got the pasta with shell fish. Everything was flavorful. I asked for angel hair and the pasta they called angel hair was more like a medium spaghetti. Little too heavy. The eggplant seemed to be fried into hockey pucks on the outside but tender on teh inside and tasty. Everyone else liked their dish and the cheesecake my daughter ate, seemed to be very good as well, served a little too cold to be creamy. The service was outstanding, they were very accommodating.

Great local dinner

By janetzat |

Four of us went here this evening and Alex was our waiter. Service was very good, the food for all of was hot at serving. The atmosphere is pleasant. I had the lasagna -exceptional. Clearly homemade pasta and the sauce had a complex flavor with hints of fresh herbs out of the usual basil and oregano. If we were local, we would frequent this cozy venue.

VERY GOOD FOOD...upscale atmosphere

By queenwolf2 |

I liked the decor. Had a local female painter and the pictures were very nice. The waiter was very good, friendly. Atmosphere was more upscale than I like, but it was a place my niece liked to go. Food was excellent. I had the pumpkin ravioloi and it was top notch. The portion was small and everything was in the ala carte fashion, again, not so much to my liking. The menu choices were decent. I would not recommend it for families with kids, but couples, even business and just get togethers are perfect there.

Spumante Italian Restaurant in North Hollywood

By Vitznau |

Spumante is a cozy Italian Restaurant, owner operated with steady waiters who do not change their jobs. It has a typical Italian/Italian American Menü and offers very attentive Service. Prices are moderate to moderate/high. Excellent for a lunch or dinner stop and relaxation on or after a busy day. The restaurant can be busy at times, especially when there is a Holiday or some sort of a party going on, but the owner will always give it is best to accommodate walk ins. At other times, it is not overly crowded. The Menü can range from exceptional to moderately disappointing, although I never found the reason behind that. It is definitely worth a visit when one is in the area or in town and, on a good day, it would be on a par with almost everything else out there.

Amazing!

By BayShrimp |

We had the pleasure of eating dinner here. DELICIOUS! We loved the linen tablecloths, the wait staff wss at our beck and call, and the food was fabulous! We had spaghetti sauce with sausages, and seafood pasta. Impeccable! We're making this place a regular stop from now on!!

Pleasant surprise!

By 1eyeguy |

Seven friends and I had dinner here Saturday night. Valet parking behind the place at $4.00. When you walk into the restaurant you are welcomed by a staff member or the owner, Joe Salas. The atmosphere and decor is warm and comfortable feeling. The service was right on as we sat at our table. Within minutes our appetizers were on the table. For my entree I ordered the Risotto De Mare. What a great surprise when the waiter brought this "huge" bowl" of 6 mussels (large New Zealanders) 6 nice size clams, 6 medium shrimp and a lot of squid over pasta. With out a doubt the largest bowl I have ever received and all for just $21.95! WOW! Friends at the table ordered lobster, cheese ravioli, salmon over pasta and Diablo Hawaiian shrimp ( they were the size of mini lobsters). Another item you'll notice is the large selection of wine which are located on the walls all around the dinning area. Everyone of my friends couldn't stop talking about how great their dinner was between shoveling the meal in the mouths. I do want to note that the restaurant is located in North Hollywood right off Lankershim Blvd and Magnolia Blvd. No doubt we will be returning to Spumante and very soon!

So lucky to live very close from this wonderful place. Everything is good they are open for lunch and dinner only. Very nice upscale feel , owner very nice man takes excellent care of the customers.

Always a great time!

Been here several times. Most recent visit was for New Years Eve. Also, for lunch and a couple special occasion dinners. Food is always delicious. If there's something Joe recommends, go with it! Haven't been disappointed yet!

Spumante is the Best!!

We used to go to Spumante a lot when we lived in LA. It's a great restaurant!! Great food. Great service. Love the owner. Never had a bad moment here.

EXCELLENT !

OMG! ONE OF THE BEST ITALIAN RESTAURANT. PERIOD. Went there with my family for a birthday. We decided to give it a try ,because of all the good reviews here, and i am so happy we did it. The ambiance is awesome, the owner and the staff are so friendly and welcoming . Best customer you can ever ask for.The food was delicious, and very authentic. I am so happy we found that restaurant, definitely will be back.

Wonderful Italian food and great service

By Mags |

Such a lovely welcoming restaurant. The Maitre'D was brilliant, funny, warm and down to earth. Fantastic food, my two daughters loved it. We all loved our meals and my creme brulee for desert was delicious.

Consistently high quality & friendly service

By LATraveller77 |

When Spumante was in Studio City, we were there at least once a week. After a few months, the staff knew us and put our favorite wine on the table by the time we were seated, and our stand-by salads were delivered without comment. I don't get there as often now that they're in North Hollywood, but it is still the same experience. Good food, good quality for the price, friendly service, and Joe always on site to make everyone feel as if they are family. Speaking of family, many of the same wait staff, runners, and busboys are there, after a two-year closure and relocation. What does that tell you?

Not Impressed

By Rachel L |

I went out with four people. The waiters and service were great although the same cannot be said for our meals. None of us enjoyed our food despite our initial excitement to try this place

Molto Bene!

By paticake88 |

My daughter and I had the opportunity to dine here last Saturday after a play at the El Portal Theater. We had a reservation and were so glad we did. It filled up immediately! Joe greeted us and was very warm and kind. The food was delicioso! The warm bread was hard to stop eating! Homemade pastas!!! We had the pumpkin ravioli in sage sauce and I had the Penne Spumante (the sausage was so good!) It was very busy and staff was very attentive. Will definetely go back!

Lovely atmosphere and great staff.

By bubbiebaby |

I have been going to Spumante for years. When they moved from Ventura Blvd. I waited for them to open in NoHo. Besides the food being excellent, you can carry on a conversation with your table mates and enjoy an evening out with friends. It is my go to place and Joe (the owner) is always there to greet you and make all of us feel special.

Would give it ten stars if I could!

Expert service and cuisine in this North Hollywood hideaway make dining a real pleasure. Intimate dining room with open kitchen, plentiful parking and reasonable corkage fee enhance the experience. Owner Joe Salas has made his restaurant one of our favorites. Be sure to try the home made pastas and scrumptious profiteroles.

Fabulous Pasta!!

By jacygem |

Omg! What a find in North Hollywood! The pasta was homemade and delicious! We had the linguini with salmon and shared the Spumante salad. Excellent food and the service is truly impeccable. In addition, we loved all the paintings on the wall, they are by a local artist. How cool is that?

A real neighborhood gem!

By Dijou |

We were looking for a place to have a romantic date and this restaurant was the perfect choice! We had the seabass special which was absolutely outstanding and the service was just fantastic. They gave us just enough space to feel like we had privacy, yet always made sure we had anything we needed. We'll be sure to come back.

A Moderately Good Italian Eatery with Some Need of More Cheerfulness

By dillichalo |

My wife and I were here for dinner after a play at a theater in the vicinity in North Hollywood. It was 9 PM and only two tables were occupied. The service was prompt though I wouldn't describe it as cheerful. The dishes were good: I had Penne Spumante, and it had a touch of spiciness; the pasta is home-made and was well-cooked. My wife had a Risotto di Mara: they were generous with the seafood, but the rice itself was far from exceptional. Risotto is a real art and few restaurants know how to do it to perfection. The waiter offered neither freshly ground black pepper nor parmesan cheese and we had to ask for it; it isn't as if they were busy, to the somewhat lackadaisical service remains inexplicable.

excellent italian food

We are happy we found this restaurant. It is a friendly place ,comfortable with outstanding service and excellent Italian food. The wine was very good and there is valet parking.

Wonderful Italian Eatery in North Hollwood

By TravelerLonnie |

Last week my father and I had dinner at one of his favorite restaurants in NoHo that he's been raving about for the last year. Having never been to Spumante before, and being very critical of Italian eateries in Los Angeles, I was excited at the potential opportunity to find a new fabulous option. The decor was tasteful, the restaurant clean, and the owner Joe was very friendly in welcoming us to his restaurant. Parking was easy as they offer valet service. We split the Spumante salad as our appetizer, which was cold, fresh and quite tasty. We both ordered the Seafood Pasta. The portion size was generous, the seafood fresh with many shrimp, calamari, mussels and clams, the pasta was perfectly cooked al dente, and the sauce had just the right amount of spice without being too spicy. Pricing was on par with the restaurants in the area. I highly recommend Spumante and look forward to my next visit.

Nice ambiance, but average food

By Daniel C |

First of all - look out for the parking! Parking on the side of the building is passenger loading and unloading only from 6pm to midnight, even though the curb is not painted green and there are meters. The city (intentionally?) put the sign in an obscure place where nobody would think to look for it and the two people who were parked there had tickets. Valet parking is $4.00 The restaurant had very nice ambiance. Perfect lighting and nice decor and two sides entirely window. The service was also very good. The food? Average. The mozzarella and tomato appetizer was nice, but nothing to write home to mom about. I don't like fried calamari, but my friends enjoyed it. The Caesar salad was average, just average. I have low expectations for Fettuccine Alfredo, so I enjoyed mine, but my friend also had it and said that Olive Garden made better. Portions were good - we didn't leave hungry by any means. Three of us were there for our birthday and the restaurant nicely served us desert with candles - no singing. I would go back, but I too, would just as soon go to Olive Garden.

Comfortable, welcoming and delicious

By Lillian S |

We love this family owned restaurant. Joe Salas is the most charming person and his staff mirrors his grace and charm. The food is always wonderful. If you are in the Noho area for the theater you must go to Spumante.

Wonderful Italian Cuisine!

By egtact |

Went on a Sunday evening for my daughter's birthday. The service and atmosphere was open, relaxed and the food was deee-lish! We voted the calamari as the best we've had anywhere in the Valley... (so far!) And of course we had to try the Elephant Ear garlic which was heavenly... I had the lobster ravioli and it was perfect. The girls had seafood/pasta dishes in various sauces and they were also fresh and perfectly seasoned. Dessert hit the spot as we shared it. (Don't forget to order an extra fork for Joe!) We have found our new place to celebrate... Can't wait to come back!

short walk from our hotel, we found this gem!

Memorial weekend so luckily not too busy! Loved, Loved, Loved this place, food, service, everything wonderful. We would visit again. One of the restaurants you always remember!

Tasty Italian Food in a Warmly Welcoming bistro

By Workingindymom |

Visited Spumante for dinner with my daughter after a long day at Universal Studios Hollywood and felt immediately welcomed by the staff. Had a gigante roasted garlic appetizer with pesto and goat cheese on warm, fresh bread. Was divine, but better for 4 to share than 2! My linguini with clams and mussels in a white wine sauce was perfect and my daughter ate every bite of her pasta Spumante, a tomato-based sauce with sausage. The wine list offered enough Italian and Californian wines for me to try a glass of something new which was appreciated. $4 valet parking adjacent to the restaurant eliminated that hassle, thank goodness since the area was hopping on a Saturday night.

Great family restaurant

By family4travels2016 |

Our family of 4 stumbled upon this restaurant and decided to give it a try. Loved the Linguine with clams...delicious! I love to cook, especially Italian food, so I am not easily impressed. The calamari was good too and my kids enjoyed their raviolis. Service was good too. Must try!

Excellent food and great service!

By Numberonemusic |

Thursday 7:00 pm reservation. My Birthday dinner at Spumante was a treat. First, we were greeted warmly by the owner who doesn't know us (we are not regulars) and within a minute of being seated, our waiter arrived smiling and ready to serve. We received our drink order and warm Rosemary bread served with EVO and Balsamic. My Mom had the Sand Dabs which were delicious and prepared like Clancy's in Glendale, a generous portion of 3 filets, lightly breaded and with a lemon caper sauce, mashed potatoes and Broccoli. My husband and I had the Sea Bass also with lemon caper, mashed potatoes, spinach and broccoli. Both were well prepared and very delicious. The sea bass was a nice think portion and it Melted in our mouth! To start we each tried a different soup. Asparagus, broccoli and corn chowder. The corn chowder was a bit spicy, but I loved my Broccoli soup. It was creamy and soothing. For dessert we were served a birthday Tiramisu cake. It is homemade. Overall, Spumante is a warm and welcoming place. Modern, yet with an "old world" feel, where the owner is very hands on and the waiters take great pride in serving their customers. It has excellent acoustics, so you can talk at normal volume. It is a bit pricy, $164 with tip for one glass of wine $14, 3 Soups, 3 Entrees and tip. I think it was a GREAT choice for a special night out.

SLIGHTLY UPSCALE ITALIAN

By David E |

If you're looking for a variety of reasonably authentic Italian cuisine then Spumante is a good choice. There is a nice menu offering both "old favorites" and inventive less commonly seen items. The decor is basic but inviting and the service, while not outstanding, was certainly acceptably attentive. Many of the restaurants in the North Hollywood Area are either specialty or trendy so for those looking for a more traditional meal (particularly before attending one of the many small theaters in the community) this is a strong choice.

Spumante- a great deal!!

By GAfromLA |

I took two colleagues from my college to Spumante for an end of the term dinner. We ordered off the menu, even though the specials sounded great. The entrees were excellent- even better than the menu stated. The wine list gave us a great bottle of red- a great selection for the price. The service was very good- attentive, but not hovering. Being from Boston, I'm very picky about Italian cuisine. The entrees- two seafood and one meat- were excellent, sauces were complimentary, the pasta cooked al dente. For what started out as a place to eat, turned out to be a fine dining experience. This is a hidden gem- take it from a back east guy- well worth the money.

Wonderful gem

By jmorelli39 |

Spumante has a modern deco design with some great artwork on the walls. But this friendly restaurant really shines when it comes to the food. Very moderately priced with a good selection. The owner brought a complimentary calamari appetizer which everyone enjoyed. I had the gnocchi which was clearly homemade and excellent. My wife enjoyed the eggplant and our guests thought that the bow tie pasta with pesto sauce was perfect. Highly recommended.

Quietly classy - the best pasta I've eaten!

By Ann L |

Staying in North Hollywood, I researched a restaurant for dinner last night through Tripadvisor and found Spumante, so off we went. The welcome was warm and friendly and the decor and ambience quietly chic. We ordered 3 pasta dishes and all were delicious. I had the lobster ravioli which was quit simply sensational. The flavours were rich and satisfying.

A very pleasant dinner.

By juanini2013 |

My husband and I and our two friends had a really nice dinner here. The spaghetti Bolognese was very good and our friends enjoyed their steaks. While not the best meal ever, the restaurant is very pretty and quiet, (we actually talked to each other!), the cocktails were good, and the waiters were warm and friendly. As a bonus, there is valet parking...We would definitely return to this charming restaurant.

Italian food with love

By Jean H |

Lovely restaurant across from No Ho Arts Center. Everything about it wonderful - service, setting, and above all food. Very reasonably priced with a special prix fixe menu for theatre. goers. You are made to feel welcome. Lots of artsy people there as well as just regular folks. You will probably talk to the people sitting the next table. That's the kind of place it is, but it is upscale and well suited for that special occasion. I love the pasta dishes, but the veal is excellent too. And they have the best green salad I have ever tasted. Not just your run of the mill garden dinner salad. Try it. you'll see. Noise level is moderate and cozy feeling. Desserts are outstanding. Full bar. Good wine list. Neighborhood Italian, but vastly stepped up. Enjoy.

amazing pasta, great service, and quite affordable! a perfect combination!

Another Italian Restaurant

Many so called Italian restaurants in this country fail to deliver a good experience; whether the ambience, menu and food quality.

Felt like we were old customers

By skiNebraska |

I'm not Italian, but the staff made me feel right at home. The elephant garlic appetizer has been recommended by lots of people before and it lived up to those recommendations. Garlic, pesto, cheese, combined with a few tomatoes were a hit!! Pasta boulaneese, and pasta with salmon, were very well done and just the right amount of spice. The cookie dough dessert topped it off. A family fave with napkin folding art

Great Italian food

By Selena P |

Very upscale and great Italian food. The owner does a good job to make it upscale and takes very good care of his client. Very much like the easy coats italian restaurants .

Unbelievable food, personalized service

By marieszuka |

Joe, the owner, and his team go out of their way to make you feel like you are a guest in their home. The atmosphere is slightly eclectic, but it is North Hollywood. Be prepared for a slightly older crowd, couples and families. Please don't let that deter you, because the food is absolutely phenomenal! The calamari is sweet and tender, served with a spicy marinara that is incredible. The eggplant parmigiana is usually touted as a "special" but it typically available on a regular basis. The eggplant is cooked perfectly and sits atop a bed of lightly sauced spaghetti. Just enough cheese to satiate my craving. The tiramisu has a rich espresso flavor without any one element being too overwhelming. Yum! You must try it all!

Excellent Service and Food!

By Jennie Grubb F |

Everyone loved their food and the service was exceptional (probably the best we have ever had)! We would recommend this restaurant to anyone for sure! What a great find!

Delightful meal

By stzi |

My husband and I were in town on business. We wanted a nice dinner to ourselves. This fit the need. We had the calamari appetizer. It was typical - we liked it. I had the sand dabs. They were YUMMY! My husband had the lamp chops. He cleaned his plate. The service was attentive.

Great night with friends and good food

By LenaBalt |

We went on a couple's date night and this place did not disappoint. Quality food, personal service, and great ambiance. A lot of attention to detail, prompt and genuine. Pasta was just right, shrimp was giant and tasty, wine was flowing....Prices are medium, but a good treat. Will definitely go back.

Always a good meal; great service

By PMarcus0007 |

One of my favorite North Hollywood restaurants is Spumante. Love the atmosphere, the service, and the delicious food.

Great Italian fare

By tedandbarbfromla |

We had dinner here the other night. First off, the service is superb, everything the Yelp reviews had to say. We started off with calamari, good portion but a bit overdone. I would not order hat again. However, I ordered the lasagna & it was unbelievably good. Also, good portions, enough for my lunch the next day. My husbadnd had the Italian sausage dinner & liked it very much. We would definitely visit this restaurant again.

Superb Gem of a restaurant

By Paul N |

The restaurant is unassuming from outside but don't be fooled as it is very charming inside and the staff and owner so friendly and welcoming. I had Lobster Ravioli which was lovely and my wife had Lasagne which was fantastic. There is Pizza, etc for the kids. The prices are not cheap but this is pure quality so you don't mind paying. Highly recommended.

So-so....

By CocoTTravels |

This is our 2nd time back. First time was impressive but not so much this time. Calamari seemed a little on the tough side, everything else was just so-so. Service was great but food not so much this time. First visit was so much better!

Great Food Great Service

Love this place, we live close by and eat once per week, always come away feeling satisfied.

Incredible, from the food to the service to the atmosphere - Excellent!

By kevin b |

I loved this place. When we walked in we were greeted by the owner Joe and seated right away. Within seconds our waiter was there to greet us as well and asked for our drink order. Everything worked like clock work. Drinks came in minutes and we ordered. I had a shrimp dish that blew my socks off and my friends had fish and a filet all excellent. this is a must for an evening out or a great lunch.

Nice lunch

By FadedFoodie |

Our small group of 6 was well served by the staff and the menu was just right for lunch. Not very crowded, making our conversation tone normal - so many 'white table cloth' restaurants have an annoying noise level. Salad was great.

Upscale decor matched by excellent food and service.

By dkayrenick |

The classy interior and artwork was complemented by the friendly service and excellent food. The numerous choices of wines, appetizers, pasta, and seafood made it hard to decide, but if sand dabs in a caper sauce is on the menu, I have to order it. The huge fresh salad, the sand dabs, and the risotto special filled with seafood were all perfectly prepared. Order the ice cream only if you are really hungry because it comes with three large scoops. The creme de menthe dessert was artistically served, and was a nice finish to a pleasant meal. This place is a real find.

Yummy Italian

A very nice Italian restaurant near NOHO. Wonderful chef with a simple, well done menu. If you're going to the theater Spumante is a warm, quiet place ready to serve.

Finest Neighborhood Italian

By Michael P |

The owner has been serving his friends and patrons for over 30 years - Joe is best restaurateur operating in the S F Valley. Joe relocated after 20 years from Ventura Blvd in Studio City and opened in NOHO 8 years ago. Modern, Jazzy, fresh with a nice buzz -all corner style tables offering 5 different small rooms. Service is outstanding and the staff has been with Spumonte for decades. Now for the good news, the menu is big full of traditional Italian choices. Start with the thin crust Pizza and share, follow with nice salad choices triColora and be sure to order the Hawaiian jumbo prawns grilled with any pasta. They always accommodate as it is Joe's style. The veal chop was outstanding as I only had it grilled with veggies. The risotto is not their best dish but the pasta's are super. Desserts are really nice and profitta rolls are my favorite. Corkage is reasonable and so are the prices - about $50 - $65 per person with tax & tip. Parking is valet underground and easy and the Art work is very modern and tasteful.Must Go and say Hi to Joe !

Very Good Meal

By Luv2Tour2 |

Giuseppe greeted us at the door with a smile and a joke. That immediately set the mood for our dinner. It was a very nice meal with the food that was very well prepared and the staff that was very attentive and courteous. They started us off with a very tasty warm breadbasket. We shared a couple of soups, both creamy and very good, cream or corn and cream of squash. They tend to have several soups daily. For the main course we shared Gnocchi, Roasted Chicken and a Salmon Special. The Gnocchi was very typical, but it was in red sauce, and I personally prefer it in white. The Salmon was delicious, moist and tender with the sauce that was very complimentary to the fish. The Chicken was also pretty standard. Would come back to try more dishes.
