Squabble or a big bubble ??

By Inspirations#1 |

I rated this place 4 * for their service and happy hour deal. Food is not as good as it sounds, it’s okay but nothing to write home about. After three months of waiting, we finally booked a table at 5: 15 the only available on Friday. You think it’s early BUT take advantage of their happy hour till 6 where ALL drinks are 50% ! Yes .. we ordered two bottles of French wine ! So worth it ! The most flavorful dish for me was, the soft sweet potatoes with pork and black garlic, tangy with a wonderful explosion of flavors. The Dutch baby pancake with burrata, ham and citrus marmalade , comes second, roasted beets pistachio vinaigrette basil and black lime was good but nothing crazy. And lastly the Bucatini Tuscan kale with octopus and pork ragu , it sounds better than it tastes, somewhat dry and lacks flavor. This place is just a hype.

Excellent food, printed menu needs more detail

We were able to get a last-minute reservation for the patio last Saturday night - this restaurant is very popular! We were comfortable enough even though it was a warm night because of the fans they have mounted on the walls. The food was really good, with a format we love: lots of small plates, some big plates, and even a bread section, all perfect for sharing. The server asked about food allergies, which was good, but the menu left off important information - we ordered mussels on grilled bread and when it came out we were surprised that it included aioli, because there was no mention of that on the menu. I'm really allergic to raw egg, so the server checked, and sure enough the aioli had raw egg, so I couldn't eat it. It would have been nice to know that before we ordered. Two people in our party are gluten and dairy free, and the restaurant was great about putting sauces on the side, so they had no difficulty. I recommend this place, but ask a lot of questions before you order!

Fancy Craft Cocktails, Great Food...

...and casual ambiance with friendly and attentive staff. The diverse menu for brunch satisfies both meat- and vegetable-eaters alike. We ordered a few plates from each category to share: bread, small plates, and big plates. All served in good portions, not too small or too large. The four of us had Swedish hash brown, donut sandwich, griddled wrap bread, creamy heirloom polenta, chocolate brioche french toast, and soft scramble. Everything was delicious, well-prepared and carefully thought out and not fuzzy. It's sort of an American bistro with a European flare. Valet available or street parking.

I definitely recommend this restaurant

We had dinner at Squable to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We had a great experience. Food was delicious and our waiter Quin made the experience even better. I absolutely recommend this restaurant. Prices are a bit high but worth it. And for the ladies, try the cocktail "Levity".

Wicked food and cocktails!

This restaurant had a great ambiance and the staff were super friendly! Food was divine especially the veggie lasagna and the pork & duck pasta! Cocktails were also on point!

The heights never disappoints...

You think, how many more restaurants can surprise me in Houston, well they can. This one had delicious food, and with a flavor of its own. We sat on the patio, I loved that they had stools sitting facing the bar from the outside. We sat at a table, but I liked that concept. We started with some excellent oysters, then the salad with the pickled butternut squash and pear, such an interesting twist. It was excellent, highly recommend trying it. I also got the bread with the salmon trout roe, yum yum. We ended with the pesto pasta, delicious! Great service and fun atmosphere!

Bad experience

By Preston P |

We had a very mediocre experience here for an early Valentines dinner. The mussels came cold and covered in mayonnaise, the burger wasn’t cooked, and the service was absent at best. We’re not picky people but this dinner really stood out in the wrong way, which was surprising and disappointing given Squabble’s reputation. I’ve never left a review for a restaurant before but felt compelled given the middling food and poor service/management.

Adorably delicious!

I love this place. Usually come in for dinner and when I can come in on Sunday for brunch, we do it. The menu changes all the time with a couple staples absolutely love the daily pastas and the Benedict are always good sometimes just a different egg dish the bartenders make delicious cocktails and I’m very picky about cocktails. This place is adorable and delicious.

Delicious new restaurant by Justin Yu

This place is so good you really want a reservation. They hold half the tables for walk ins but we waited an hour when we arrived at 8:30 pm. The food is worth the wait. They recommend each table get three or four of sharing items and then an entree. I like to eat lots of the sharing items, skip the entree, and have dessert. My husband likes the French hamburger very much, though, and it comes with really good fries. Our favorite dishes are the spiced carrot spread with foccacia, the kampachi crudo, and the donuts. Tables of more than 4 can only be seated outside.

Stupendous service, excellent food

Wow! We took a friend here for his birthday and what a great decision this was. While waiting for our table, we were seated off the bar and 4-5 waitstaff came by and asked if we would like water or a drink. After being seated the superb service continued with our waitress Christine. Full of pep and good vibes she answered all our questions about the food and even brought my wife a sample of the wine to see if she would like to order a glass. The food was outstanding and by no means expensive for this quality. We started off with the sourdough with walnuts and olives, and followed with the marinated mussels and calico beans on grilled bread. I've got to tell you this dish was a knockout. Our friend ordered the simple house salad which was easily large enough for two people and very fresh. Main courses were the vegetable bolognese and gnocchetti, both tasty, fresh, and good sized portions. We finished with a chocolate tart with meyer lemon, eye pleasing for sure but a bit too heavy on the lemon. Overall though a delightful dining experience, one which I cannot wait to repeat. Reservations are necessary as the restaurant is small. I counted 12 tables and booths, not adding the bar and a few outside tables. While it may take a week or two to get a reservation on the weekend, I can tell you I am adding Squable to my list of favorite restaurants in Houston. Go, you won't be disappointed, only amazed at the fine food and maybe the best service I have ever experienced.

I regularly visited the prior business at the location (SG) pre-pandemic. Several people recommended dinner at this new establishment and they retain their food-knowledge crowns. All of the dishes we ordered were meant to be shared. Six of us shared mussels, two burgers, chicken, and a few other dishes. We also ordered two chocolate hazelnut budino desserts. Each dish was delicious and the portions were on the smaller side, but filling. The mixed drinks we tried were a credit to the bartender. Our server was sharp. Professional and friendly, not overbearing yet attentive. She had a great sense of humor. She also guided our selections and steered us straight to the best food.

We had the worst experience ever at Squable!

By Yolanda M |

We had made a reservation last Saturday night for a birthday celebration, we did it for 6 people and then one more person ended showing up, we asked for an extra chair and the Manager was the worst! He told us he didn't have an extra chair for our table...which was a complete lie, if he wanted he could've made it work (there were extra chairs...we saw them)! Sad to see how a terrible manager decision messed up an experience and created a negative impression on the whole staff that for sure are not aware of this. Of course we left as we couldn't have dinner there and he immediately gave our table to another party...how sad to see a restaurant doing well just forget about the basics of customer service. We will NOT BE RETURNING and hopefully you do something with this review as you are "might" be aware...Houston has MAAAAAANY options

Best Manhattan of 2019 -- and the food is great too and served by a great staff!

By mcfiddle |

We started with a Manhattan which was perfectly made -- some people might think the $15 charge is excessive but I think after on sip they will settle in and enjoy this delicious drink. Next we had a half dozen oysters that were fresh and yummy and we finished by ordering a hamburger which was perfectly cooked and big enough to be shared with a well done plate of fries. The restaurant was still in it's "soft opening" stage but you couldn't tell that by the outstanding service staff-- they were spot on and appeared to love their jobs. The atmosphere is mid-century modern, the bar is an indoor/outdoor arrangement and seating is inside or out for the tables. We didn't have a reservation but snagged two seats at the inside bar-- which I think are the best seats in the house because you get to watch and talk to the astounding bartenders. We will be back!

Trendy and Tasty

Aspires to provide a European dining experience. Emphasis on taste rather than quantity. They succeed.

Delightful meal with family

We dined here at our son's request and each had a delightful meal and appetizer. We enjoyed a variety of appetizers, small and large plates and tasty cocktails. The service was good. A reservation was needed on this weekend night.

Amazing Umami Flavors--Great experience!

By Houstonalle4food |

When people rave about Squable, it's not hyperbole. From start to finish, it was all excellent. We dined early on a Friday evening, having heard how busy it could get—it's not a huge space. It's located in the former Southern Goods spot. We were welcomed by some very friendly young women at the hostess stand. The hostess offered up one of the comfy booths near the window. The decor has a slight mid-century vibe. There is some fabric on the ceiling, wooden slats and the upholstered booths which soften the noise in what otherwise might be a very raucous space when full. The menu is small but very well curated. We started with a cocktail, the White Cosmopolitan. It comes with a raspberry ice ball which slowly melts. It was very good. Plates are set up so many things are easily shareable. We shared the heirloom tomatoes—so good—a delicious blend of seasonings and some toasted bread crumbs for a nice crunch. We also shared the Kona Kampachi Crudo which was so fresh and light and artfully plated. My companion enjoyed the roast Heritage Pork which as he said was "dang good." Moist, succulent, juicy. I had the Maltagliati Pasta, a simple, satisfying dish—great for the warm weather because it was fairly light. It lists anchovy as an ingredient but I couldn't taste it—it totally cooks out—so if you're anchovy-averse, don't worry. You won't taste it. The wine list gets updated fairly frequently, so our server gave us the rundown when we ordered. We opted for two of the replacements, both of which were Spanish, and both very satisfying. Overall, the wine list has a wide range of offerings. We shared the chocolate mousse which was wonderful. The yogurt topping was light and the lime zest was refreshing. Sometimes desserts can be an afterthought for restaurants, but this was densely chocolatey without being too heavy. We shared a glass of the Rare Wines Savannah with it. The service was welcoming. Everyone was engaged in making the experience excellent, and all were knowledgeable and helpful. There is valet parking in the lot to the west of the building. Even the valet guys were friendly and professional. We can't wait to go back.

Mother's Day Treat!

By Cheryl411 |

Treated to this new restaurant on Mother's Day with my family where we tried different small plates recommended by our waiter. All were quite unique and delicious dishes. I recommend the Pork Schnitzel, Smoked Grouper, Handmade Pasta, Dutch Baby Pancake,Tagliata Steak, Potatoes Anna and Stracciatella Cheese. Restaurant has small number of tables inside and our party of 6 (grandson aged 2 in highchair) was seated on the covered patio that was very comfortable. Suggest making reservations.

Fantastic Dinner!

We celebrated at Squable last Tuesday evening and our dinner was so delicious. The sourdough bread, crudo and vegetable bolognese were simply perfect!

Dinner with friends in the Heights

Dinner with friends in the Heights. Incredible unique tastes and flavors. The food is served family style. One of the best meals I’ve had in Houston. Our waiter, Carlos, is a professional. The service team did an excellent job. Definitely should try this restaurant.

19th St Keeps Getting Better!

By RiverRat68 |

The previous restaurant in this location (Southern Goods) was overpriced with mediocre service. Not so Squable. It is on the pricey side but the food is very good as is the service so the value for money hits the mark.. There is also an extensive wine list and some great cocktails. The bar has about 12 seats and even though there is a good amount of outdoor seating, Squable fills up quickly so reservations are recommended. Good cocktail menu. Bobby Heugel was present and even visited our table to ask us how our dinner had been (it was excellent!). I can absolutely recommend Squable and am looking forward to going back!

Fun vibes, great food, and the best service

By sm28185 |

From the moment we walked in and sat in our seats at the bar, we knew this was going to be a perfect date night meal. Every aspect of the dinner was great, from the overall vibes to the extraordinary service we received from Matt (one of bartenders/servers). And of course, the food itself was amazing. We loved the unique twists on a lot of their options, as this is definitely the first time I've had oysters without proper toppings (came with a lemon/pickle juice drink instead). The mix of flavors in the albacore tuna dish was also delicious (my favorite dish of the night). For our main course, we ordered two of their pastas, which wound up complimenting each other very well. The Radiatore was a more robust option with a slight kick, while the Pappardelle was a much lighter/creamier and slightly sweet option. All of that was wrapped up with their Dessert Bread, a dish that Matt pretty accurately described to us as a mix of french toast, creme brulee, and bread pudding. I'm definitely looking forward to our next trip, especially because there are so many dishes still left to try.

Poor Excuse for Customer Service

By Melly H |

Funny thing is, I don't think they take getting new business very seriously. I've tried to make a reservation, but there seems to be a woman named Audrey who says to send an email for parties over 6, and a manager will get back to you. I sent the email and no one got back to me. Ever. When I called back two days later to inquire about our Friday reservation. Squable's gatekeeper Audrey who apparently is the only one who answers the phone. Only ever says "yeah, I got your email and I told my manager", "He'll call you". And nothing! They don't seem to want any business. Very unprofessional behavior in my opinion! Don't waste your time!

Brilliant, a hidden gem

By Hubert S |

What a great discover. This restaurant has very creative menu, designed around plates that can be easily shared. It’s definitely European inspired, both Mediterranean and Nordic cuisine. They use top quality fresh produce, everything is home made, including excellent pasta and a delicious selection of bread. I also loved their shrimp plate and the lightly smoky flavoured beef. The dishes are very creative, inspired, and packed with flavour. The atmosphere of the place has the perfect balance between classy and casual. The staff is excellent and passionate about what they serve, and the selection of drinks is huge. They are happy to get creative behind the bar too, including non alcoholic surprises. This restaurant is a hidden gem, and highly recommended!

Oh my goodness, run to this place. You need to book several weeks out if you want a normal dinner time, but worth it

Truly Fantastic!

By Joy R |

From my husband. My wife and I took my parents to Squable and all thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We started with the Foccacia with the spiced carrot spread. The bread was good, but the hummus like carrot condiment was outstanding. We ordered extra bread to sop up every last bite of the spread. From the small plate section we had the broiled oysters, Kampachi Crudo, marinated heirloom tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and the maltagliati pasta. No misses, but the highlights were the tomatoes and sweet potatoes - both things that I don't normally order, but these preparations were awesome. Squable can truly elevate vegetable dishes which I think is the sign of an outstanding restaurant. For the big plates we had the French Cheeseburger - 5/5, Market Steak with Hunter Sauce 5/5, Roast Chicken with bread dumplings 4/5, & Roast Pork with shellfish sofrito 3/5 - not sure the shellfish/pork thing really worked on this dish. For dessert we got the donuts and the dessert bread. Dessert Bread doesn't sound all that appealing, but it is awesome. The Dessert Bread was so good, I can't even tell you about the donuts because I forgot. Great service, fun atmosphere. Great addition to the Houston dining scene.

Interesting and tasty food with great service in the heart of the Heights!

Squable has a bit of a different menu with small plates and mains. We had a half a dozen small plates between four. A few of the items such as mussels I would not have ordered! Much to my surprise everything was excellent. The main course of grouper did not disappoint. In short visit squable for interesting, delicious food. And to top it off the service was great!
