I've been to a hundred beer and burger places in a hundred different locales. Guess what? There was nothing here that makes this place stand out. Would I go back if I were in the area? Sure Would I go out of my way to eat her next time I'm in Philly? No. I'll go find a good cheese steak instead. Glad to see the North Liberty neighborhood bouncing back. Lot's more here to explore before I'll make a second trip.

Too noisy.

One of the most delicious meals I've ever had – the kielbasa and sauerkraut are phenomenal. The staff were friendly and helpful, but gave us our space. We were able to sit right down on a Thursday night before seeing a show at the Electric Factory. Overall fantastic experience; cannot recommend Standard Tap enough!

Just stopped here after doing three hours of volunteer work. Maybe I was just really hungry, but the burger was the best I've had in a long time. Not sure what kind of cheese they used, but it was delicious. Fries were great as well.

My husband and I really love Standard Tap - whether going with friends, family or just ourselves we always enjoy the food, the beers and the service. The first floor is first-come, first-serve for a seat at the bar on grabbing a table. On the second floor, there is another bar area with first-come, first-serve tables and a restaurant area that takes reservations - we have sat in all three areas and all have good atmosphere. They also have an outdoor area on the second floor. The food is not your average bar food, it is more of a gastro pub and it is all great. I always look at the specials because they have interesting, out of the ordinary entrees daily: venison stew, rabbit cassoulet, boar dishes. There are also non-game choices, but so few restaurants offer those entrees, that I like to take advantage. My go-to favorite is their chicken pot pie which is not a normal pot pie - it is a puff pastry with filling of chicken and vegetables (not the usual saucy deep-dish pot pie). It is so good. My husband, who has a high standard for burgers, says theirs is one of the best in the city, but he also enjoys a lot of the daily specials. Large draught beer selection every day, so if you like a good selection, this is for you. Service is always attentive and friendly.

I've read mixed reviews about this pub, and decided to check it out for myself. They have great beer, but aside from that, I thought they were average at best. The noise level is loud, louder than most of the other pub/restaurants I've eaten at. It is located in a very cool old building, and the sound must resonate off the walls. Our group elected to eat on the porch, where it was quieter, so we could talk. However, it's the food that made me give it a 3. It missed the mark. The flavors either competed, were overdone, or missing altogether. It has potential if someone took a hand in the kitchen, but as it stands, I'd go for the beer only. Our server was also rude, disinterested and inattentive. Ask for a condiment or a lime for your drink and it may not arrive until after your second drink, or when you're finished your meal. And it was not terribly crowded. I won't be back, except for a beer. Our bill ran about 30/person, with 2 drinks a piece and no dessert.

I have been to Standard Tap many times and the food is always delicious and satisfying. The place is always jammed, but if you grab a drink and wait,a table or spot at one of the bars usually opens. Two of us went recently on a Saturday around 7:30,and after scoring a prime parking spot right in front,we were feeling lucky. Of course, not a seat available. We saw a small vacant table for 2 right in front of the kitchen, kinda set away from the dining rooms and bar.It was a busy walk-through for folks going upstairs and staff in and out of the kitchen. I did NOT want to sit there, but my boyfriend was hungry,so I relented. We always start with the octopus(yummy!) and I got the whole trout and he got the hanger steak and fries(our fav!). Both were superb and the table ended up being fun because of the continuous people watching and activity.Dont hesitate to sit there-I have a feeling its always open. The music is always loud and the place is noisy-not a romantic date destination. We also love the bread pudding or apple crisp for dessert.

In the City of Brotherly Love for a pub crawl, I ventured to the Northern Liberties neighborhood, which appears to be in the middle of much renovation (I bet the rents go up), for the specific purpose of visiting this much-lauded tavern. The Tap stands sentry on the corner of Poplar and Second – in fact, coming up from the nearby Spring Garden subway station it is pretty hard to miss with its’ name blazing for all to see. Upon entering is a small L-shaped bar that can seat about fifteen opposite several small tables. A few windows allow a minimum of natural lighting – but hey you’re not here to read. In the back is a warren of additional dining areas, much like the British pubs of yore. The only menu is on the chalkboard above the bar. The food, primarily seafood, was excellent, eclectic and much more than pub grub – unless you consider Duck Salad “pub grub.” While, the beer selection was not large (13 taps, including two hand-pumps), it was fresh, properly served, reasonably priced and strictly representative of the excellent regional breweries; the selection included: Sly Fox Dry Stout Troeg Brown Ale Flying Fish Stoudt’s APA Victory Prima Pils Stoudt’s ESB Yard’s Pale Ale Troeg Dreamweaver Wheat On cask was Yards ESA and Victory Hop Devil. Oh, and the Yards Pale was $3.00 a pint! No wonder this place gets great reviews, including this one.

The beer selection is very good. The food is appetizing. This is our favorite place for brunch - my friends and I come here often. The fried smelts are very tasty. Service is excellent. Recommended.

Went for brunch recently to an old favorite, that has unfortunately went downhill! My husband and I were barely acknowledged (not busy)... Then seated in a corner not to be presented with a menu but rather to look at a board of very limited and over-priced options.... Upon poor service, we neglected to stay for brunch and left after a less than memorial Bloody Mary.

Chick pea sandwich

Amazingly well kept beer and phenomenal food. This place has a cask marque award outside. Which to an Englishman who drinks proper hand pulled pints is unheard of in America. The food is stunning and the staff are very helpful and knowledgable. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Cool second floor space. Nice and cozy. Good beer, friendly wait staff, and delicious food.

Really really good. A must for anyone exploring NoLibs.

Great beers if you like hops. Great grilled octopus. Easy visit with family on a chilly winter night during the week. Sandwiches and burgers a bit expensive but it's the city so not unexpected.

The Standard Tap, just a little north of Center City - Philadelphia - was a solid local neighborhood bar and restaurant. Its somewhat gritty decor, completely fine and appropriate for the look of the place, was counterbalanced with excellent food choices and solid wait service. It's as far from pretentious as possible and if you're looking for an alternative to a cookie cutter local pub grub experience this is the way to go.

A typical corner bar in Philly. ST always has a good selection of Micro Brews on tap and good quality food. Eaten there 2-3 times and never had a bad meal. Atmosphere is definitely dive bar.

Standard Tap used to be a favorite with great salads and sandwiches which included to-die-for pulled pork, wild boar, portabella mushrooms and, on occasion, even roast lamb. On this trip, sandwiches included hamburger, meat balls, cheddar cheese, and muffaletta. We should have known right then to just have a beer and move on. The guy next to us had a muffaletta and it looked like something no more inspired than a sandwich from the Acme. His companion had a salad with garbanzo beans that reminded me of what I make when I'm short on time and need to use up some veges. My partner had the empanadas and, while they tend to be a bit heavy, these looked over-fried and were leaden; they came with a corn salad accompaniment that lacked inspiration. I had smelts and they were fine. Beers are always interesting and they keep two cask-conditioned offerings on “long pull” but, with the explosion of interesting taps in the city, these just isn't a reason for us to go back to Standard Tap. Staff is always nice and efficient.

I guess you would call this a Gastropub. Old building with several levels and bars. Much bigger from the inside than the outside. If you come on a Saturday or Sunday, they're going to have brunch instead of lunch. You could still order off the menu for other dishes. Not too much to offer those who are vegetarian. They do have an excellent selection of craft beer on tap and in bottles. Especially local craft beer. For lunch, I had the Smoked Mushroom & Swiss sandwich. I love the idea of smoking anything edible. The smoked mushroom was good, but could have had a bit more smokey notes. To go with that, I had a couple of pints of Coldcock IPA. My wife who is vegetarian just had the french fries since she's not much a fan of mushroom or beets. They did provide a nice helping of fries for $5.00. I would confidently say the crowd is primarily Millennial, Yuppie Foodies.

My husband and I had dinner here for the first time and really enjoyed it. Good locally brewed beers, and not too expensive (about $5 a pint). You can come here in your jeans. There is a chalkboard menu. We split an entree sized order of steamed clams which were delicious in a zesty, garlicly, hot peppery sauce. For dinner I'd highly recommend the pork sandwich. Burger also good, but really, try the pork, it was amazing!

great little place, delicious food that's not expensive.

one of my favorite places for great beer and atmosphere. food looks great but never tried.

We went here mainly because we heard they have great burgers. This place is loud but that's typical for a bar. For anyone who loves unusual beer, this is your place. I had a Troeg's wheat beer that was excellent. The guys in our party got burgers and loved them. My daughter raved about the pulled pork sandwich. Some other things we tried were the tortilla soup and the beet salad. The beet salad is not worth the price as it seemed to be canned beets with some sour cream. Other reviewers commented on the less than stellar customer service but it's sort of what you'd expect from this kind of place.

It was a great experience! The food was delicious The pork sandwich was cooked perfectly The pasta was delicious too Great place with friends and family

Good Burgers

Foods always good, never disappointed.

Upon entering, was a very loud and energetic bar scene with music. Behind that was a less loud but chaotic seeming dining area. Not quite what I was looking for, then an employee asked us if we were here for dinner and we could seat ourselves downstairs or upstairs had seating but there may be a wait. My husband and I went upstairs and Yes! this is what I was looking for, very social atmosphere but not loud, red/orange walls with white trim that accented the very cool old Philly architecture. The menus are on boards, which was not convenient if you were sitting at an angle and had to stand over other diners seating below the boards to read it. I saw one customer take a picture with her cell phone, brilliant. Food choices included clams and monk fish, which I got and was wonderful and actually could not finish after eating the beet salad that was delicious. My husband had the italian pulled pork sandwich with fries and he loved it. There beef is grass feed and the obtain local and sustainable high quality food, which goes a long way with me. The quality and flavor of the ingredients were remarkable. There was a bit of wait between courses but I felt our server was on top of everything and I was not forgotten, she was very friendly and knowledgable.Unlike the description of some previous comments, our server did not seem bothered to take our order. There were large groups there and I heard regular customers comment that this was an especially busy night. I also noticed, there was a small outside area off the upper level dining are, which I hope to come back in warmer weather and check out.

Standard tap is more than a local bar, it's got really good food too. The atmosphere is great, very friendly and welcoming.

This is a great locals favorite for good reason. The food was quite excellent and with 22 craft beers on tap, this Northern Liberties pub is always a favorite. It's appropriate for the whole family during the day.

The choices of beers there is great and they have unique appetizers like spicy pumpkin empanadas (yum!). It would be nice to see classic pub grub, like nachos, on the menu, but it's a different and better bar.

Heard about this place from triple D. While they had run out of Pot Pie when we go there, the octopus was super as were the crab cakes, pork chop sandwich and the garlic shrimp. Add to the good food more local tap beer than i have seen in years, and you come away with a great meal.

Had Sunday Brunch there. Prices were fair, food was good. What I was really impressed with was the staff. We had a misunderstanding when ordering, the staff took care of it and the chef came out to apologize. That is what customer service should be. Looking forward to going back to have a hamburger and beer.

Had a nice time on an offnight in the winter here, and got there early enough to find a parking spot right at the door; it would otherwise be murder to find one anywhere in the vicinity. It appeared the front room and upstairs were full of regulars; we found a relatively quiet booth in the back to have a nice get together. We ordered oysters, which were excellent, and all of us had burgers, which were nicely done, and we all had different beers which were great. We shared an apple bread pudding which was tasty. All in all a good choice.

I cannot believe that I am going to give a pub a 5* review, but this place deserves it. We have been there multiple times and it really has been the pioneer for redefining pub food in Philadelphia; hence the trendy "gastropub" designation. Located right in the heart of Northern Liberties, this unassuming-looking bar gets everything right - the beer selection always has interesting brews on tap and the food is amazing. I have had many things from their kitchen - perfectly cooked whole fish, to duck salad, lamb burgers and mussels and sausage, etc...everything has been amazing. The blackboard menu does change, but many constants do remain. My favorite place to sit at the Tap is outside on the upstairs deck. Get there before the sun sets, order a local brew, some great food and enjoy with the Philadelphia skyline in clear view. And it won't cost you much - just a great, great place. I hope they never change, they've got it just right.

We really liked the bar, but the food choices were a bit exotic for us. We werent looking for venison or duck, or liver pate...which is what was on the menu for the night we were there, but it's a nice bar with solid beer

Have been going here for years. Feels like it added a few bucks to the price on everything just b/c N. Liberties is popping. Fries are some of the best, but overall, just not the same vibe from when it was my little place to hang with my friends.

Went for dinner on March 14th with a party of four. I had the roasted bone marrow for an appetizer and it was very good. For dinner I had the chicken pie which was a very nice sized pastry puff stuffed which shredded, marinated chicken. It was very tasty and the pastry puff was light and crisp. My wife had the pork shank pork chop which was excellent. A tender juicy chop cooked to perfection served over a bed of lentils and vegetables. I will definitely order this next time I dine there. Another member of our party ordered the duck confit. Although I love duck, I usually never order it due to small portion size. Well this place served up a generous portion of duck to the point leftovers were taken home. The remaining guest in our party ordered the cod po-boy sandwich which got rave reviews. I must also add that our waiter Thomas was very helpful in selecting beers from their menu and was very attentive throughout our meal. I will surely go here again next time I travel to Philly.

We checked out Standard Tap because we saw it on Diner, Drive-ins & Dives. Wow - what a gem. There's an upstairs where you can get reservations and a downstairs bar area that does not take them. We ate downstairs - it's noisy but fun. Menus are up on blackboards. You'll have to ask the server to describe how things are prepared. We shared the poutine as an appetizer - french fries covered in gravy and melted cheese curds - heavenly. Wanted to lick the plate. Despite all the delicious topping french fries still had some crispiness to them. For dinner we had pork shank sandwiches, hamburger, chicken pie and the Berkshire porkchop. Everything was delicious. Pork chop was melt in your mouth, pork sandwiches were juicy - if a bit messy - and tasty. Chicken pie had a flaky crust that totally enveloped the filling. Hamburger was done perfectly. Lots of interesting beers to try. For desserts our table shared an apple dumping, creme brulee and chocolate rum pistachio torte. Where to begin? The torte came with ice cream (with think mocha or kahlua, doesn't really matter the flavor it was GOOD) the crust was flaky and light and the filling was creamy and chocolaty and yummy. The creme brulee had a great carmelization with a smooth, creamy, rich custard. One of the best we've ever tasted. Our 86 year old dad who has had creme brulee all over the world was still talking about it days later. The appie dumpling perfectly cooked, light tart apple flavor, delicious crust, delicately spiced - melt in your mouth delicious. We will definitely try and return next time we are in Philadelphia.

The service was very attentive and friendly, really liked the food. Make sure you sit out on the terrace,it's very attractive and just a nice place to eat.

Love the beer selections here. Food/menu changes and anything I've had there is good. It's a great place to go, hang out with friends and try some good craft beers.

excellent supply of regional/homegrown brews with very informative bartenders. I could see this being a place I would frequent if I lived in Philly. Next time I'll leave when it is light out and there are taxi's to be had ; ). Great place to have an informal business lunch or with co-workers with a formal east coast beer lesson

We went there with our 7yo son, not knowing what to expect. The website was not very descriptive. We were looking to sit outside on the roof, but it was full. We took a table by the door in the bar area. The food and the beer were all great. The server was helpful and attentive. He took the time to explain some of the dishes and the beers on draft. He steered us away from some beers that might not have been in top shape (a firkin of ale that was served at another event the night before), and recommended some real winners (Dock St. Sexy Chocolate Beast Stout!). He allowed us to get mussels for our son without spicy sausage and peppers. The mussels were the plumpest I've seen and very tasty. The broth was buttery, garlicky and dotted with nice chunks of ripe tomato. My wife had the steak salad, and it was spot on. I had boar chops which were flavorful and well-prepared with roasted vegetables and a nice sauce underneath. This was a top notch meal at a great price. Add in great beers and friendly service. This is a winner!

What a cool bar. Great food too

Standard Tap is a great spot — multi-level, great energy, and it manages to feel cozy and lively at the same time. I’ve been a few times now, including for a friend’s birthday, and it’s always a solid experience. Brunch hits the mark. The menu has all the usual offerings, but everything I’ve had has been above-average delicious. It’s elevated comfort food without trying too hard. That said — if you’re driving, give yourself extra time (or patience). Still, once you’re inside, it’s worth it. A true NoLibs staple.

Friendly service, good food, and great drinks are a winning combination at this local gastropub. The stuffed clam appetizer and the chicken pie loaded with chicken and veggies in a puff pastry hit the spot on a cold winter night. The beer list was impressive and our waitress was knowledgeable and helpful navigating it. Would definitely come back.

We visit Philly often to see friends, and our favorite spot to meet up is the Standard Tap. They have great pub food, a fantastic selection of beers, and really friendly servers and bartenders. They have a wonderful Sunday brunch!

Standard Tap in Northern Liberties combines all my favorite aspects of a great tavern: fresh craft beer from around the region and beyond, usually good food, personal service from the bartenders, and a cozy old-world pub-like atmosphere. Friendly bartenders offer free samples of the drafts, and bring you what you want when you want it.

What a great place! A buzzing local pub with a great range of beers and Philadelphia food! Really relaxed atmosphere with attentive service and a marvelous range of beers at reasonable prices! The food was marvellous - homely, but fresh and tasty and not too much or too heavy. We had a great night & I really recommend Standard Tap for a visit!

Had an amazing Sunday Brunch...great price good quality food!!! The location is ok because there is a lot of construction in this area but once you go inside its completely different. I also love that their menus are on a board

GREAT atmosphere and terrific beer selection. The food was tasty, although I wouldn't say the best I've had. But it's definitely worth a stop if you're in the No Libs area of Philly, which itself is a charming neighborhood.

... But definitely a must be! Its a bit outside the center of Phillie but always worth a cab ride. I loved the morbid charme of the pub - outside and inside. Still cosy and simple - great service with fun and humor, good food and a great selection of drafts. We enjoyed utmost - its a place to have a bit "different" kind of dinner/pub visit ... Good old basic style - love it!

Enjoyed this with family. Good food very friendly staff Great atmosphere good background music. Pool table.

I've been going to the Standard Tap for years. The service is wonderful. They are known for their burger, which I order often. I just recently took an out of town guest here and we loved it! We sat at the upstairs bar, they have a great beer and cocktail selection. I also love Sunday brunch here.

Came here New Years eve, had great beer specials, The crowd was good, not too rowdy.Would def come back again.

I brought my husband here for his birthday. I was a little disappointed with the tap selection as they had no IPA's. The food was ok. My husband had the burger, which he enjoyed and I had the recommended, Chicken Pie which was dry and kind of flavorless. I would like to give this place another try, maybe on a weekend instead of week night? However, there were maybe 4 other people in the place and our service was lackluster. So, on a busy night will it be worse? Apparently, it was one of the bartender's birthday, so instead of the staff waiting on customers, they were constantly socializing with each other at the bar and taking shots.

This old place is awesome. It's not easy to back-in parking spots close-by but we made it work. The building offers bar, tables and outside dining. The menu on a Sunday afternoon was limited but we were there based on the reviews that this was one of the best burgers in the city. I think I would agree. The burgers (single and double are @ $14 and served with lettuce, sautéed mushrooms, onions, jack cheese, and French fries). The toasted bun takes if over the top. Just delicious. Cooked to perfect temperature. The bar offers many types of local and favorite beers, the bartender offered tastes of beers and the table service is sparce (order at the bar) but good. FYI, the kitchen closed from 3 to 4 to prepare for dinner service. We would absolutely return, looking to go beyond the burger!

My husband and I went there specifically to get the octopus dish seen on diner, drive ins and dives and it was not on the menu. The waiter said they tend to use local produce and octopus is not commonly caught off the Delaware coast this time of year.

Beer list is an IPA lovers dream. Except they had a seasonal margarita on the menu, it was excellent. Yes the octopus was not available, seasonal. Chicken potpie is excellent, as well as the seared scallops appetizer. Totally recommend and will return again.

Had a nice time here. But could not get over the rudeness of our server. The menu has no description so we had a lot of questions. My goodness you would have thought I asked her for her kidney. She never got nicer the entire night and you felt bad asking for anything. I had the monkfish and clams- very good My husband had the chicken pie- very good also My one friend had the burger- average My sister had the tuna sandwich- blah. It was fresh tuna which was great but there was no dressing it was very plain We also recommend the s'mores pie. Super good

I was here for a private party Thursday night. The service was fantastic, both in attentiveness, information and accommodation. For someone from the West Coast, the beer and drinks list was great. The food was very good; i loved the Octopus toast appetizer. If I lived in Philadephia, I'd go here often.

I really enjoy the beer selection at Standard Tap. Great local brews with plenty of selection. I've gone there a few times for brunch because they have such an excellent menu. The food is fantastic. The nice relaxed atmosphere and porch seating allows for a very nice experience with friends. It's also in a great location in Northern Liberties, pretty close to everything the neighborhood has to offer. Will definitely be returning.

Saw this place on diners, drive ins and dives so thought it would be worth a look. It indeed was. Attendees were lots of fun and engaging. The beers were interesting and good. Food was definitely Italy different and would have w joyed having a full meal there. It is in a neighborhood that seems to be revitalizing and looks like it could be a great place to eat and drink your way through with friends.

Top notch gastropub. Food is always solid from the burger to more adventurous things like pork cheeks or wild boar. Local beers on tap.

Went for an early dinner on Friday. My wife had the chicken pie, I had the Standard Burger. Both were very good, service was excellent (thanks Scott!), and the happy hour beer prices were remarkably low for a big city restaurant. The building itself is an interesting collection of smaller and larger rooms, each with slightly different feel - crowds around a bar, quieter larger rooms with plenty of space, an outdoor 2nd floor patio - so you can choose the style of dining you prefer on any given day. If you're in the Northern Liberties area you can't go wrong with Standard Tap - we'll be back for sure.

Some interesting choices on the menu. The food was good, the atmosphere was just okay, and the staff were friendly.

This place has retained the character of the original Northern Liberties neighborhood (pre-gentrification, which sandblasted the edges off everything.) Great beers, excellent food. I always have to challenge myself to try new things because the old stand-bys like scrumptious burgers and duck salad are so very good. Great place.

The food was delicious! Had the chicken pie and crab cake sandwich and they passed my expectations. Went on a Saturday night around 9 and sat right away. There's two levels and upstairs has an outside eating area. The tables and stools are pretty small though, and the menu is written on a large chalk board affixed to the wall. The food came out pretty quickly, piping hot and tasted fresh. The atmosphere is very bar, but the food is awesome. Will definitely returning!

If you like beer, alternative music (provided by CD) and one of the best burgers you will ever have this is your place!

Last time i was here I had the Confit de Canard, which was a roasted duck leg/breast combo sitting on top of a small salad. Excellent!

This would be the quintessential triple-D place and we hope they never get on that show. This pace has the dive atmosphere and great food. The lamb burgers are wonderful. The fried calamari is the best in Philly.

I liked the selection of beer at this spot. Didn't try the food, but I'm a beer lover, so...

Wife and I had a few beers and cocktails before a show at the Electric Factory. We split the eggplant dip and black bean burger. The food was great. Beer selection was good enough. Our server, bartender, seemed disinterested. That didn't take away from our experience. Great place. Nice neighborhood!

The menu had different items on it but other items were extremely overpriced. $25 for a cheese plate that was lack luster. Cool atmosphere but probably would not return.

Lots of food for a good price and great service. The menu could be a little more varied but I did enjoy my meal.

not great parking here, but worth a walk. great historical building w/ great food/drinks/service! Do not judge this book by it's cover! Great for bikers also

The food here is amazing and different. The staff are all very helpful and lovely and there is a great selection of beer. Second visit and I’m just as impressed as the first time.

Saw episode with Guy Fieri, had to make a pit stop on our way to philidelphia airport from north jersey. Upset to learn the octopus was seasonal and not on the menu. All dishes we ordered were exceptional. Kids loved their grilled cheese and fries. Bok choi, clams, chicken pie, & monk fish were fantastic! Beers were great too. Great ambience & service. Highly recommend. Kids are 9 and 6.

Stopped in today but found that they did not open until 4 pm. Thus, it was not open for lunch as advertised.

Had a great fathers day dinner along with a sons birthday. The drum sticks are a great choice, delicious. Creme brûlée was a great dessert to end the night.

Informal atmosphere with hardy food and drink for lunch of dinner.

good for beer

Bar staff was awesome. Could not have asked for more attentive, enthusiastic servers. Loved to explain all the beer options. Very casual atmosphere, super friendly. Went upstairs for dinner........slow service and food was not very good. Fresh mozzarella was worse than Polly-o from the supermarket. You know the real hard/rubbery block they say is cheese. Waiter was terrible, well not terrible but below average. Went there for their octopus dish, they didn’t have it. Website doesn’t really explain the menu can be different every night. Like totally different, no staple signature dishes..... It’s lucky to get a 2, the downstairs bar staff saved them from a 1 or 0. I really wanted to try the octopus but I will not be returning. All 4 of us felt the same way.

First off, the concept of having the menus on chalkboards doesn't work for me as you have to stand by another table of diners to look at menus. Our apps of octopus and grilled sardines were very good We asked for bread and butter and the bread was very hard, inedible. We ordered our apps first then our entrees about 10 minutes later bit as soon as we finished our last bites our entrees arrived without a break. To me this is unacceptable. My wife's burger was absolutely delicious, maybe a 6oz beef patty with a good roll that held up. I ordered the oxtail stew which consisted of 2 bones with small amounts of the tender meat in a very favorable sauce with rice and dirty peas. At $17 I did not expect much meat but the dish was very hearty and delicious. My problem with this restaurant is the absence of timing.

The menu, written in chalk in the back, is all over the map, from french cuisine to standard american fare, but every bit was as good as the next, and the craft beer selections were out of this world. Had the poutine, and and eggplant dish and both were outstanding. My co-worker raved about the beers. The range of beers could keep you there for months. Typical of a place in Northern Liberties, it's a little overpriced, but that's the only drawback to an overall outstanding experience.

We hadn't been to Standard Tap in awhile, so my husband and I decided to dine there on New Year's Day 2011. The website did not make mention of any special event or menu, so we went in expecting there standard, well-regarded pub fare. WRONG. What we walked into (although no signs announced it) was a limited prix fixe New Year's pig roast. We did not realize that that was the only menu until we were seated with drinks in the upstairs bar. My complaint is that if you are going to serve one type of meal only, let people know that when they walk in. My husband decided to try the prix fixe dinner while I did not. The dinner was decent, according to him. However, the service was beyond lacksadasical--polite enough, but extremely slow and disjointed. All in all, a disappointing experience--and with hundreds of great restaurants in Philadelphia, not really worth the time or money.

We were very disapointed and did not have a good experience. We were there at 7:30 on a Saturday night and many items were not avaialable including many beers and wine that are on the menu. And unfortunately chicken pot pie. Our server was friendly but cleary stressed out, she appeared to have way too many tables. The soup was bland, the burgers over cooked, the vinegar in the salad dressing was overpowering, the remainder of our dishes were unimpressive and the prices were on the hide for what we got. To top it off, we were seated at a table directly accross from the door to the patio and were subject to bursts of cold air (it was 27 degrees outside) as people went in and out. Why would any restaurant that wanted their guests to have a good experience place a table. We wanted to move but didnt want to further stress out the wait staff. This seems to be a poor managment, we wont be back.

The beers and some of the food are quite delish. Live near here and used to go quite often actually. Their food prices are a bit high but you are getting good quality food. Some of the servers always act bothered when they take your order but you just learn to accept that they hate their jobs and you move on. Overall, good food and good beer :) I don't go as often but still stop in every know and then.

We went there after we saw it Diner, Drive-ins and Dives. The ambience and food were great. I grew up in the area but haven't really spent time in this part of Philly. We met up with friends and the service was over the top good. The beer selection and the menu was diverse. I would strongly recommend it if you are in the area. The only down side is parking.

Come hungry and leave happy! It won't matter what you order, but certainly accompany your main with a side of the habanero grits. Just first rate, down home, no frills, outstanding cuisine. The food is the center of the attention, the service makes you the center of theirs. Get there!

Mussels, burgers, great beer selection. Friendly service. Like to hit this spot every couple of months!!

NoLibs finest Pub. The food here is amazing. I always think my expectations are too high from the previous visit and they always out do themselves. Whatever the waiter recommends, get it. Stay away from mixed drinks tho. This is a beer/spirits and great food place. "rooftop" seating, multi-level. Can't get enough of this place, they have done an excellent job separating me from my money in the past few months and I am more than happy to return tomorrow. And Saturday. Maybe Sunday for brunch. Pork shank sandwich, standard burger. Mussels, oysters, its all good. So good.

Standard Tap serves only draft local beers brewed < 100 miles from the bar (i.e. no bottles). That might seem limiting, but with the impressive beer scene in the area, it is not. Yes, you can get the usual mixed drinks there, but you will not find a bottle of Bud. My wife and I eat at the Standard Tap about once a week for the past 5 years and the food is always fantastic. Do yourself a favor and stray from the typical pub fare of sandwiches and try an entree, which might be more expensive than you would think at a bar, but the preparation is top notch and the portions are always hardy. I love the ambiance of the entire place, but ascend the stairs to the covered deck (which has heat lamps when it is cold). It is a respite from the bustling street and interior bar scene. The larger dinner room upstairs gets you away from the bar while the smaller dining room upstairs has a small bar and a fireplace. This is a great "off the beaten path" stop for tourists and is even good for families. Check it out.

The food was great but the atmosphere also sold me on this place. Very relaxed, no pressure, friendly. I had the avocado toast with egg with a mimosa for lunch - I haven't stopped raving about the toast since. Everyone ordered something different and was very satisfied with their selections - many options. Wait staff is very personable, helpful.

Never ate food here just drank some good beer. Not sure what is was, it's so dark in the place.

Scary

I was walking on 2nd Street killing time with friends when we spotted the second floor deck with lights and my friend really wanted to go in. The weather was warm so it felt nice up there. However, the tables were tiny and the drinks were pricey and not that good, although we did enjoy the funny names for some of them. The service wasn't particularly friendly.

The Standard Tap looks like its been there forever. If you like local, this is the place. All beer is local (sorry, no national brands) and the food is from the area when possible. Portions are large and good. Staff is friendly. For three people with food and a couple drinks, you'll probably spend about $75.

i can't say enough good about this place. go with a big group, or on a date... it is multi-wonderful. and so good to eat and drink. and juke box is usually VERY good.

Great food, great drinks.

Good burgers/pub food, never anywhere to sit.

Went back after not going for awhile. The neighborhood is changing, but this restaurant remains a constant. Grabbed a table on the second floor porch. Had a great meal with wonderful service while looking out on the city. Our server, Nancy, was fantastic.

Went here based on a friend's recommendation. We ate outside on the second floor next to Poplar St. The first thing that bothered me was having to stand up to read the menu written in multiple colors of chalk on a blackboard. It probably would not have bothered me so much, except there were people trying to eat sat at tables underneath the blackboard. I had the steak and eggs which should be retitled "two hunks of bread, three strips of steak and eggs". The bread was soggy and overwhelmed the dish. The little bit of steak was tasty but in no way was it worth the cost of the meal. at least my wife enjoyed her chocolate chip french toast. Maybe dinner is better but not really willing to give it a try based on brunch.

Wonderful food in a friendly atmosphere. Looks like a neighborhood bar but the food is far above typical pub fare. Do not be afraid to experiment with the food and the beer.

This place is damn good. From a culinary standpoint I do think they are above the level of most gastropubs.... some of the dishes approach finer dining and they are always delicious. Best among those is the hangar steak, always cookec perfectly and then the jus soaks into their already awesome fries. This meal is one of the most consistent in the city. That portion of the menu is a bit more expensive than the atmosphere may indicate but there bar food and sandwiches are off the hook too. I've had almost everything on the menu but aside from the hangar steak I put the octopus towards the top of my personal list. Grilled and covered in a vinegrette... really light and refreshing, I'm sure you can get better octopus in Greece or Spain but for $8 in Philly this is a nice dish. Lastly, the beer list is always long and always good and mostly fairly local, so it's a great spot for just some beers.

We were going to pass up this restaurant until the gallery across the street mentioned that this is not your standard pub menu. They were right and we were glad we went. Great selection of beer on tap. A few solid wines by the glass. But the menu was a pleasant surprise: Smoked mussel soup, beet pastrami sandwich (all veggies) and great desserts. Would go back here in a minute!

We learned of this place on DDD. Guy featured the chicken pie and it did not disappoint. It is loaded with juicy chicken, vegetables, no gravy, and wrapped in a great tasting flaky crust. Beware, it is piping hot when you get it and takes a while for it to cool down. We also had the crab sandwich which was an excellent recommendation from our waitress. I would put this as a must try on your trip to Philly.

brunch place, yum!

this place is awesome. the food is great. love the burger. great beer selection too.

Tried this place for brunch after seeing it on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. Was not disappointed, food was excellent and beer selection was great. Can't wait to come back and try dinner.

The "Standard Burger" is one of the tops in the area, although that space is getting crowded these days. Good for us, lots of great burgers. Local brews are good and varied. Muscles are very good as well. Can't lose.. unless you can't find a seat!

Standard Tap is a very cozy place with a wide variety of beers and a simplistic but very tasty menu. The best part of this spot is the outside deck where you can chill and have a nice moment

Go for brunch early to beat the crowds, or be prepared to wait. Same for dinner, especially when it starts to warm up. It's a huge place- two floors with a bar on each floor PLUS outdoor seating upstairs!

Great if you're in the mood for some hearty rustic fare, with a tasty local brew to match. The wild boar is exceptional.

Came to watch the Philly Eagles from England. This place has accreditation for cask beers and so paid it a visit. Wow, 20 different beers all brewed locally. Stephanie the lady behind the bar had an extensive knowledge of them and her service was superb. Local brewers and bar staff from other places arrived at 11pm and I had the best time tasting beer and talking/socialising with them. Very friendly place and best bar I saw in Philly. Food was also decent. A must visit next time I visit.

Stop in today, it was fantastic! The beer was amazing! Bar tender was great! Best list of craft PA beers! Food was spectacular! Can't wait to go back!!!!

I was able to make a reservation on Resy which was nice. We were seated quickly. Host was very friendly. Our server was too. We had a great squid starter and excellent crab hush puppies. Also had a bbq chicken sandwich was not your average bbq. It was very tasty. There also a ton of local beers and interesting cocktails. We sat outside in a second floor porch which was nice.

Four of us went here for a couple of pints and something to eat before going to a Steely Dan concert in Camden last Monday. Simply put, this is a superb pub. 2 cask beers on handpump - both were excellent. Whole bunch of other beers too. The food was very good and reasonably priced. The barman was friendly and knowledgeable about beer. Nice guy. The pub has atmosphere. The bathrooms were clean. If there is a better pub in Philly please let me know.

We decided to visit the Standard because of its showing on diners and dives. I was under impressed. It's was just ok. Wasn't worth the trip from dowtown. I tried the "famous" mussels. They weren't bad but I've had better. It's was much too spicy for my taste. The beer selection was nice and I loved the menus on the wall. It was the middle of July and it was extremely hot in the restuarant. So it was hard for me to enjoy anything because of the humidity.

Great burgers and seasoned fries... generous amounts of alcohol with each drink order. Dining room music was a little loud and lighting a bit dim... but overall - nice spot.

Great beer list and great food. Philly is now known for its gatropubs and this was one of the ones that started it all.

I have eaten at Standard Tap a few times in the past few years and the food and service were never disappointing, however a recent visit was exceptional. On Sunday of Presidents' Day weekend, after a family gathering at the bowling alley near Standard Tap, 15 of us dropped in there for dinner. Even though we had no reservations, the staff asked us to wait about ten minutes while they prepared a large table on the second floor for us. Everyone was pleasant and never gave us the impression we were a bother. We had a very enjoyable time and will certainly be returning there.

We caught this restaurant on "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" in our hotel room, so ate there the next day. We arrived mid afternoon Saturday and several tables were available downstairs. The room behind the bar is naturally less noisy. Twenty Pennsylvania beers are featured, and the fare is way beyond bar food. My husband and daughter ordered their signature chicken pot pie, finely shredded chicken in gravy with carrots and peas nested in a puff pastry enclosure (that may have passed for an apple dumpling) topped with a pastry rose. I couldn't decide between curry samosas, poutine or beef ribs. When in doubt, I ask the waiter. He did not steer me wrong. My two meaty and tender short ribs were glazed with kumquat and jalapeno and sprinkled with sesame seed on a bed of crunchy refreshing jicama slaw. It woke up my mouth and paired wonderfully with my sour cherry ale. The blackboard menus on the wall allow them to change things up, but the chicken pot pies are always available. I'm looking forward to what's in store next time.

Standard has a great lively bar on the ground floor but the best place is the outside seating upstairs. Nice beer selection. I had the chicken pie they are known for. Great pastry shell but chicken mix inside nothing to write home about. Steak and burger ordered by others reportedly excellent. Menu somewhat limited compared to other American style restaurants.

Eh. Nothing special. Most beers are strange, flavoring IPAs, which is fine, there needs to be good classic options too. No choice of burger - there's only one and you can’t change anything on it, and it comes with green tomato. The rest of the food was not amazing, but not bad. Clams were chewy, the smelts weren't crispy. Server was ok, but not friendly.

Stopped in for a few beers before a wedding down the street, The server was very attentive for an excited group of wedding goers and willing to help chose a beer for those overwhelmed by the great draft list.

Standard tap does get pretty crowded on weekends and when other things are going on in the area. Although we haven't tried their food, it smelled delicious... It's a great place to have a few beers and hang out with friends!

If you are a beer snob, or just adventurous, you definitely have to check this place out. They have a huge beer menu and great food in a cool atmosphere.

The nice variety of tap beers and the summer-night inviting roof top make this bar a nice spot for a drink. Food was a different story: we had two appetizers (squash flowers and cheese on filo) and two entrees (semolina gnocchi and chicken pie), and unfortunately the only impressive part was the price (total of $90 incl. two beers and tip)

I love this place....not pretentious, not fancy, just fun, good food, funky bar atmosphere but still feels wholesome and wonderful. Food is always a little ecentric but delicious. Reasonable prices and great beers. Even tho I'm 72, it makes you feel like you're 22. Go and enjoy.

I really wanted to like this place. Honest. Hip area and a good rep. We started with the smoked fish platter. A mound of some smoked white fish and a very small sliver of some fish fillet that was also smoked. Served with lettuce, tomato and a bagel ( I think they were getting rid of the breakfast bagels). Decent but not overwhelming. I then had the Vietnamese sandwich with slices of duck breast and pate. It sounded really good. It wasn't. The duck breast was so tough. Basically it was slices of fat. Truly inedible. I could not chew the duck at all. Impossible. I have never in my life left any food on my plate. EVER! This time I did. I would not return. Expensive too. There are way too many other interesting places in the area. They do have a decent beer selection.

Good spot to get a burger/fries and a beer. Delicious. It can be difficult to find parking in this area of town, but great place to go.

We stopped in for an early dinner because we had something to do in the neighborhood. With so many awesome, authentic places to pick from, unfortunately, we settled on this one. My mussles in red curry with sausage, while costing $17, were neither juicy nor fir that matter, red. My so called Framboise wound up being something way too hopsey for me. They could have told me they didn't have framboise. The spring gnocchi was covered in plain greens and tasted like bread. The burger was average. The service was very nice. But you should be comming for the food...... or shouldn't .

We were looking for the Brooklyn Philly flea when we saw they had brunch. I had an omelet, the potato cake was delish. Hubby had the curry veggie salad and it was ridiculously good. Fresh, pickled carrots, chick peas, parsnips, arugula. Amazing. The cilantro creamed corn soup was awesome too. Highly recommend.

Located in Northern Liberties area, great place to hang out with friends. Had the infamous Chicken Pie and Pork of July Empanadas which were both delicious! Paired it with the Tired Hands Stop Today Porter. The Porter has a hint of coffee taste to it and I recommend it if you love your coffee. Service was good and the crowd is nice as well. Not too crowded and is a great place to catch up with friends. Great spot in the summer as they have an outside area to enjoy the cooler nights and relax. Also great place to check out in the winter time as well as is was my second time here but first time during the summer.

The Standard Tap is in the Northern Liberties where there are many similar type places. What is appealing to me about the Standard Tap is there are actually several different spaces on different floors. So depending if you want simply a standard bar, a table (where you won't be jostled by the bar crowd), or a less standard bar scene (with tables) on the second floor. I made my way up to the second floor bar and grabbed a seat at the edge of the bar. It was relatively early (5:30) but was served a beer immediately. I asked about their dinner options and was recommended a fantastic monk fish. Service was fast without being pushy, and friendly without being clingy. The beer options are many. The food diverse and appropriately spread across from appetizers, small and large entrees.

This unique tavern located at 2nd and Poplar offers unique food and drink in a quaint setting. The menu, written on the chalkboard changes frequently and seasonally. On a recent night out with friends, we found much more than standard bar fare, although that is available too should you want it. Appetizers were very interesting, and the salads, including a nice kale salad with a yogurt dressing. were innovative, priced betwen $7-15. Mains included entrees (a little on the pricey side with some as high as $28) and sandwiches. The chickpea sandwich was a nice mix of mashed spicy chickpea, beets and goat cheese served with fresh chips. Many local brews on tap.

Went here after the Phillies game...second visit to this taproom. It's stepping back in time to the old corner tap rooms of my dad's era. Very casual, plain wood tanbles and booths, dark wood interior. Menu is very different and very good, 2 of our party had the burgers (huge) which came with delicious fries, 2 had the chicken pot pie, I had the mushroom melt and fries. No one was disappointed. Lots of craft beers to choose from too.

Went here with a group of ten on Saturday. As we had requested a quiet setting, they seated us upstairs in an uncrowded room with plenty of space between tables. We guessed that the building must have been a mansion in the 19th Century -- the wooden floors, wall panels, and architectural features are attractively worn and look original. When she booked the reservation, my niece had told them that our cousin had to eat gluten free, so the wait staff marked up a menu for her that listed ingredients and noted all of her options. Our group ordered a dozen small and regular plates to share, and every one of them had very interesting and tasty combinations of ingredients (e.g., squid toast with carmelized onions, olive tapenade, garlic, and more). Portions were generous and easy to divide. Will definitely return when in Philly again!

My favorite "local"... great place to chat and nosh. Best mussels around.

We ventured from downtown to this outlying neighborhood for a completely different seting. inhabitants got much younger ( unfortunately we didnt) the buildings much more transitional ( new upscale housing mixed with other settings literally crumbling and housing plant life only) . Reached this 2nd street mini oasis of restaurants and shops. Standard Tap, very obviously a favorite, was crowded early on , on this sunday evening, and rightfully so. There are multi levels, street level inside bar, restaurqnt area, upstairs bar, tables, outside upper separate dining/ small event room and an upper outside coverd patio, complete with heaters. The patio was perfect on this 60 degree evening ..great for people watching on the street below and next door speciialty beer shop. Tried two oft he local IPAs on tap, with many more to choose from on the prominent wall chalkboard menu. Burgers, entrees, salads, soups, seafood were varied and made choosing a thoughtful process. opted for the chicken pot pie, not traditional but shredded chicken and fresh crunchy vegetables in puff pastry...more like a filling in a pastry than the thick chunky meat-and-gravy pie that defines the usual pot pie. Accompanied by the greens/apple/blue cheese salad ordered in addition, though it did come with dressed greens on the side also) it was a surprisingly light meal. The service was great..just enough to keep us informed and glasses filled, and with a smile. By the time we left the interior was packed ( not so much the patio, but that made it even better)

I had been trying to get to Standard Tap for a couple of years. My extended family of 8 went on a Wednesday night. We made reservations in advance. They were ready for us right on time. Wednesday seems like a great time to stop in to avoid any crowds. The menu is always changing here and is listed on blackboards. We tried a few different appetizers. clam chowder, baked clams, both delicious. The menu is eclectic with some standard options like burgers and fish. Should be something for everyone. We had a chicken pie which is always on the menu. baked in puff pastry - very tasty. The atmosphere is cozy bar feel. with different rooms of varying sizes. They serve only microbrews from local breweries. great selection and only on draft. Our server was great and attentive. she was well informed on the menu. Go here when you get a chance if you like something a bit different. Hope to go back soon. Be careful where you park. Street parking can be tricky. Prices are around $20 per entree

We went to standard tap with a large group - teens and adults. It was a great meal and great ambience. The food was delicious and the beer was even better. Saw it on the travel channel a few months ago and had to try it out. I can't wait to go back.

It gets crowded and loud at times but you can usually always squeeze into a table somewhere. Food was surprisingly good and not overpriced but the beer selection is the reason to come here. They only serve local (pennsylvania) brews and the selection is pretty impressive. The staff knows what they are talking about and are always happy to let you sample before you make a decision. The place is definitely a down-scale, neighborhood bar which is great if that's what you're looking for. There is outdoor seating upstairs which really helps open up the place. If you are looking to try some great locally brewed beer in a very casual atmosphere you will be very happy.

I am so glad I don't live near Standard Tap because I would end up larger in size and smaller in wallet. I would be in every day choosing from their excellent selection of draft beers and eating off the ever-updated chalkboard menu. ST is as close to a Milwaukee-neighborhood bar that Philly has: dark woods, welcoming atmosphere, and wonderful consumables. And with no TV's one can relax, talk, and enjoy the experience that Standard Tap is.

Great atmosphere. Well prepared and imaginative food. A broad and deep selection of beers. The heart of Northern Liberties.

Very casual as implied by the name. Great selection of beer - perfect for what we were looking for, pre-game warm up

We have only been to Standard Tap once and since we are not big drinkers, haven't been back. I ordered a steamed mussels dish and my husband ordered some kind of lamb something. For as much hype as we'd heard about Standard Tap, we were left a little puzzled over what the fuss? Sure, both food and drink menu were chock full of unusual items we'd never heard of before but the meal was unmemorable for either of us. Had we been with a block of friends out for an evening of drinks and laughs, maybe we would feel differently but it certainly didn't have a date night vibe. Maybe if we'd gone out to eat at another eatery in Northern Liberties then walked over here for an after dinner drink we would feel differently. But, the history of the building is significant and they do support local, urban agriculture so it was nice to say we've been once.

After a 5 hour drive to Philly for the 4th of July we checked into our hotel and got back in the car to try Standard Tap. The tap selection is very unique as was the food. Writing the menu for both on wall chalkboards is a cool touch too. This place has character. We ordered the chicken pie with a side of fries and split it between both of us. Plenty of food for two! This place makes the list for my next trip to Philly.

Great local beer selection for good prices, decent wines too. The space is great-- upstairs and downstairs. The food is decent, but not great-- stick with bar standards and order anything that comes with fries. They're perfect.

Very casual atmospher, truly a gastropub with a wide variety of local beers, knowledgeable staff, and great food. We had the chicken pie which was excellent, but the biggest surprise was the baked beans which were excellent. Great for a fun dinner out, I wouldn't recommend it for kids.

We just dropped in for an early dinner on the rec of a friend. It didn't look like much from the outside, but we liked the little touches--the taps on the door and all the wood in the rooms, making for a pub-like feel. Table and seating were simple, plain. Menus on chalk-boards. My friend had a hamburger that she said was very good, on a pretzel bun that held it together nicely. I tried her fries, and they were very tasty. I had small plates for Happy Hour--Smelt and raw oysters... both very nice. Also had the apple struedel, which was very tasty and served warm. It was all very satisfying. The prices were good. The staff were friendly and attentive.

Standard tap is one of very few cask marque bars in the whole USA. We're traveling around with a friend that loves cask marque pubs having been to nearly 1500 of them in the UK. We weren't even in Philadelphia, we were in Washington. So we took the train, got to Philly, went to the standard tap and are now going back again. None of us even got a cheesesteak. Got to say it's a fantastic bar, the beers are lovely and they have some truly fantastic ones available. The staff are great, friendly and super engaging. Tusslewig in particular is one of the best pints of mild we have ever had.The food is literally phenomenal. Everything is sourced locally (beer included) or made onsite. Highlights include the pork chop, the fish sandwich, doughnut bites and the pound cake, but the other dishes we had were seriously good too! Remarkably well priced too, we finished with a local bourbon and that was excellent as well. In all as a random trip that's literally taken us a day and we have seen nothing of Philly it was totally worth it.

New chef but still excellent food. Nice variety of pub fare, sandwiches & entres including vegetarian options. Great beer selection.

This is a qualified 4. The food can be inconsistent. We occasionally get a cold fry or the odd subpar entree. However, ST is usually on the mark. Waitstaff is excellent. Seating is tight but if you go upstairs you have a better chance of finding a seat. We ALWAYS sit upstairs now, because the last time we sat downstairs, a mouse came out onto the floor, sat in the center of the room, and hung out very comfortably in the midst of the busyness. The manager whisked it away in a dustpan, comped everyone's drinks, and a good laugh was had by all...it's that kind of place.

Great interior, very eclectic, comfy. Went for brunch; nice selection of menu items, a bit pricy but very fresh & tasty. Pretty extensive beer list and some unique cocktails (recommend the cucumber fizz). Jess & Kaitlyn did a great job with our large party! Would gladly visit again.

Yes you need to go to the chalk board to read the dinner and beer menus which change every day. You can always get a burger, a duck salad, or a pot pie but note now and then "bratwurst" or hangar steak--who wants that until you ask your server and you get so much information they would need a printing press to get out a daily menu. They are too ecologically and overhead sensitive for that. "One brat is boar, one is venison and one the chef's ex,--they are served with a ------every day is a new and exceptional culinary adventure. They do not tolerate rudeness and sometimes the juke box is too loud on the 1st floor for me. It is obvious I have been there a few times. I try to make it back twice a year or so--and hope I see rabbit stew or something--for about $19.00 yet.

I love gastropubs. I hope this trend lasts a little longer.

Good beer, had with good friends, for good times!

Coupled with a limited but eclectic menu. The food, beer and service all make this place worth the trip.

I am 27 years old and wanted to go in with friends, not intending to drink. I realized when I walked up that I had lost my license and explained the situation (and showed 7 other forms of ID). The "bouncer" said no, and I said ok, and stepped back, understanding the situation & respecting his job. THEN he let an entire group of people into the building without checking IDs while I was on the phone trying to hunt down my license. I confronted him saying "that's illegal." And he stepped forward aggressively and yelled "I KNOW THEM!!!! I don't care, call the cops." in my face. Needless today, I called the cops and I'll never return. So unprofessional.

This place has great beers and a foodie lover's dream menu, but is so overrun with hipsters, it can be uncomfortably crowded most times.

great beer and interesting takes on "pub food"

We went to a friend's house party on New Year's Eve and the next morning four of us went for breakfast and hair of the dog. We were able to make a reservation within an hour of us getting there and we were seated right away. The music was great, if you were born in the 80s and like classic rock, like me! Our server got us waters right away and was kind and patient with my hungover friend who could not decide on her dish and waited until he arrived until going "Ohhhh, I don't know!!!" (I've waited tables and usually tell people I'll come back, but he stuck it out, which I appreciated) The Bloody Mary's were yum. I loved all of the fresh ground pepper. I grew up in a house that made an amazing Bloody Mary and feel that store-bought Bloody Mary mixes are a sin, so fresh ground pepper was a treat! Also the beer list was great. We got a porter and a couple IPAs. The food was 'good'. If I lived in the area, I'd be there all the time, but more for the drinks, service and decor than for the food. I tried a chicken eggy Latin thing, and my husbands sandwich and a friend's pot pie. I think mine was the best, and it wasn't as good as getting two eggs a la carte, which is an option, but one I did not take.

We stumbled into this bar on a winters walk on 3rd Avenue. We ordered two great beers and then started off with tapas style starters - the mussel and chorizo, and the grilled octopus!!! Great service and great vibe.
Awesome Staff & Food
Saw the episode on Diner's Drive-Ins and Dives featuring this place. Was in Philly overnight and came here for an early dinner instead of doing the Philly Cheesesteak...and I'm glad I did. Their menu is unique for a bat. The chicken pie is different from any pot pie you'll ever have. Lord Chesterfield Ale, made by Yeungling is always on tap out of a converted old refrigerator, along with a nice variety of craft beers. Parking can be a challenge, I recommend public transportation (UBER). The place is clean with a nice dark wood finish throughout. The staff super nice and they know the menu and the beer selection well. This place can make you forget all about the Philly Cheesesteak.
