When in doubt, go for a salad...

By Splash46 |

Stanley's has always known how to make a great salad. Their location changed. Their ownership changed. Their chef changed. But the quality of their salads remains unchanged. A more recent addition to the salad menu is called "super food" which is code for kale and quinoa. However, this gem has mandarin oranges, cashews, avocados and a choice of chicken or tofu. The orange vinaigrette seals the deal.

As good food as ever

Used to eat at the two Stanley's in the San Fernando Valley but when the one in the west valley closed I never went to the one in Sherman Oaks. This Stanley's took over the space of Fabs Restaurant which is one block south of Ventura Blvd on busy Van Nuys Blvd. Be warned there is no parking unless you find one of the possibly 8 spaces on Van Nuys Blvd. You are forced to leave your car with a valet for $7.00 at lunch but only $5.00 at dinner. Having a handicapped plaque is of no help. Bad timing for us on a Friday at 1:15 as the noise volume was painful with over 50 customers all talking over everyone else at once and nothing to dull the noise as carpet or lower ceilings. Our waitress was perfect and we got our ice water and bread and butter quickly. My friend ordered the chicken ceaser salad which was huge for the $16.00 and the chicken breast was plump, juicy and still warm from cooking it fresh. I ordered the veggie pasta with penne and it was filled with mushrooms, eggplant, tomatoes and onions all grilled to sweet softness. I asked for their sauce on the side which looked and tasted like sun dried tomatoes or toasted pepper dip so I used a tiny amount of the marinara sauce they said I could get on the side. That worked perfectly. It was delicious and half of both our lunches went home packed at the table. I used to only get their Chinese chicken salad but glad I ventured out to try something different. Both lunches were$16.00 each and the iced coffee and Arnold Palmer were $4.00 each. So with tax and tip about$52.00. Oh and plus the $7.00 parking which became an expensive lunch out in a very loud setting.

Great food, friendly and efficient service, Go there without regrets!

Stanley's is a winning concept! The service was very good and the house bread (sour dough) to die for... In our party of four, everyone was raving about the quality and taste of the food as everything was top quality and excellent in taste. The reason for my 4-star rating was the atmosphere which did not live up to the rest of the element. The place for me felt more like a diner than a fine-food restaurant but that was also reflected in the prices. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be back.

Great salads

If you are looking for a great place to have different salads..this is the place. Chinese chicken, cobb and tostada are all very good. Nice atmosphere and space to talk.

A Good Bet

Enjoyed our dinner at Stanley's starting with the excellent bread. My corn chowder (rich) was very tasty....a big bowl, would have loved a cup. Followed that up with turkey meat loaf with cole slaw and sweet potato fries.....very good. The weak link was the artichoke which was overcooked for our taste. Waiter, Jerry, was extremely nice. Our cost was $52.50 including tip......no alcoholic beverages and sharing with my wife brought the cost down. Comfortable for the four of us. The other couple seemed very pleased with their selections.

Numerous Excellent Offerings

Located just a block off of Van Nuys / Ventura in Sherman Oaks, this gem of a restaurant offers a wide variety of excellent dishes including burgers, salads, pizza, etc. Restaurant is always packed with both dine-ins and carry-out. The one deficiency is lack of parking.

Long Time Favorite and Holds up Reputation in New Location.

Chose Stanley's for my birthday lunch with friends. I've spent decades eating at the "old" Stanley's and the new location is just fine. The food is still wonderful, the old favorites are still good and it's a fun setting and a great staff. SO glad I picked it for my special day.

Mediocre food plus roaring noise level always equal POPULAR!!

The new Stanley's is pretty much like the old Stanley's. Loud bar scene, louder interior room scene. The booze flows like a river racing to the sea. Everyone is screaming. The food is largely forgettable. Stanley's is a neighborhood hit.

Superb Lunch, VERY Busy PLace, Difficult Parking

I searched the reviews in the area to meet my brother for lunch and Stnaleys was a GREAT find. WE both were very impressed by the food. Service not as gresat as place was PACKLED and we saw only 1 waiter who was frentic. So perhaps was shortstaffed just taht day but the place is very popular. Daily specilas were excellent.

A neighborhood favorite!

It was a favorite place at the of location. So glad that it re-opened on Van Nuys Blvd. The grapefruit & chicken salad is one of our favorite dishes. Parking is pretty challenging, but they do offer valet for $6.

The return of Stanley's!

I think everyone who frequented Stanley's was sad when they closed. Luckily for us, they've reopened at a new location and it's the fresh, interesting, delicious you remember with a hip new decor.

The Send Off Restaurant

By Blair |

My parents always have that 1 restaurant that we go to before they leave town. I am from FL and my parents still reside there and I live in LA. We always pick this spot before they head home. I have been here a few times on my own. They have delicious salads worth fresh and crunchy lettuce, delicious sourdough bread, and that’s all I have had here. However, every time I am here I want to eat everything off the servers arms. Everything looks delicious and while my review may be minimal, you can’t go wrong on what you order. I was here in the end of July to send my mom back home and we ordered sweet potato fries and they were amazing but we also saw someone ordered Baby Back BBQ ribs... cue someone mouth watering! Definitely a great spot and delicious food.

Lunch date

By Isunwin |

Came here for a lunch date with my girlfriend and her two 9 month old twins. We were seated in the back so we could have a bigger table with more floor space. Service was good. Food came out quickly and our sever was attentive. Only complaint, it was very noisy and hard to hear each other talking. We didn’t think it would be that busy at lunch, but it was packed! Parking is very limited. There is valet parking available for 7 dollars which I think is outrageous! Nevertheless, it is a nice restaurant, variety of food choices, and food and service were good.

Neighborhood Gem

By TALLGUY |

This is a reincarnation of the original Stanley's. Very diverse menu. The quality and flavor of the food was spot on. We had the chicken taco apps and they were great. The caesar salad had a few ingredients not normally found in a traditional one, however it added some really great flavor to it, and lastly the grilled lime salmon was so tasty that i wanted seconds Our server Veronika was very attentive and that goes for the entire staff from what we observed.

Good menu, nice open space, good lunch

A nice open restaurant with a very varied menu full of lots of tempting options. We had the Chinese Chicken Salad and the Quinoa Bowl ... plus french fries! Very tasty ... and the Strawberry Lemonade is very refreshing.

Once again, excellent!

We went on a Monday night, so did not have to wait long for a booth. The service was excellent. My friend ordered the chicken pasta & loved it.
