Had a wonderful, filling meal in this charming and casual restaurant. Portions are large so share the appetizers and entrees. Quick and friendly service.

We wanted to try some different restaurants during this Chicago trip, so my husband and I took our good friend (who loooves Asian cuisines) to the Star of Siam. Mixed review so I was a bit apprehensive but it was VERY busy, so that was a good sign. We were seated by the window which I love but I noticed they have very unusual table seating. What I would call "pits" with no chairs and cushions on the floor. Super cool but were full. We ordered Thai cocktails...fruity and potent and began with crab Rangoon (is this really Thai?) and some Shu Mai (like shrimp dumplings). Our server was very personable and made some good suggestions for those of us who like it hot! My husband had the "Pad Ped" (red hot curry chicken) and I had the "Kang Kheaw Wan" (the green curry beef) both with jasmine rice. Woo hoo! Hot is an understatement but very good! (Would be amazing in the winter!) Our friend played it safe with the "Sa-Tay Chicken". We finished with more Thai cocktails and lots of water! Unique atmosphere, clean, pretty good food. A nice experience overall.

It’s a nice place with good service but the food was very average. My wife’s dish was so salty it was nearly inedible. The pad Thai was OK. They seem to be doing a hopping business, but I can’t figure out why.

Just okay. Mediocre service and food. We walked several blocks to get here and itcertainly wasn’t worth it.

The concierge at our hotel recommended Star of Siam when we were looking for a light, quick dinner nearby. Service was good. The food was average Thai food. No surprises on the menu. Good value for the money.

Beautiful & simple restaurant-friendly & attentive staff :) had satay chicken-was good bug i have had better... NamSod was good, but not as flavorful as others. I would cone back as other dishes were well received in group of six

I was told this was the best Thai food near downtown... wrong it was terrible! They gave us old smelly shrimp and the food was over cooked.

Dandy Thai restaurant in the Mag Mile region of Chicago. Went twice - service was minimally better one night than another, but never offensive. First night was Vietnamese Spring Rolls....a little gummy, and I'm not sure it was really crab, but tasty, especially with the sauce - had a nice kick to it - followed by Pad Kee Mao - outstanding - chicken and shrimp and lots of veggies along with the wide noodles. Second night app was Goong Hor(Shrimps In Blankets) deep fried -sweeter sauce this time, but good. Entree was thai pepper beef - three colors of peppers and lots of meat and sauce with a side of brown rice (rice is not automatically included). Full bar and the bar tender is very generous. Recommended, especially for folks who don't do hot hot Thai food.

We live Downtown and order regularly from Star of Siam. Everything on the menu is good. Inconsistent delivery is my only real gripe and I've downgraded my review from 5 to 4 stars.

While visiting Chicago a while back, we stopped and had some Thai at the Star of Siam. It was delicious them and it was delicious again for our second visit. The atmosphere is warm and pleasant. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We both had the Pad Thai with chicken, the same thing we had the first time. It’s delicious. The flavor has a slight sweetness to it and everything seems very fresh. The dish will run you just under $11 and you will be full. We will definitely go again the next time we are in Chicago.

After reading the reviews, I decided to give Star of Siam a try. Agreed - the crab Rangoon are delicious!! The filling was so hot though, definitely burned my tongue even after the waiter warned me. I also got the massaman curry. I was able to eat about half of each for lunch the next day too. I feel it's silly to charge for rice (at all - not extra), but a small portion ($1.50) is plenty for a single serving. I would definitely go back to try more things!

OK, so I probably started going to this placed in the mid to late 1990s. I could not believe the place was still here on a recent business trip. The pad thai was still great, as is the cashew chicken. Environment is cool. Service is ok. More than good for the price. I would return.

Since it was my birthday, I got to choose where we would eat dinner. Having lived in Thailand for 2 years, I'm always seeking out authentic Thai food and the Star of Siam did not disappoint... Very authentic and friendly service. Would definitely return.

We had dinner here after a long day and really enjoyed it. Food was flavorful and good and the portions are very generous. The service was super quick and without frills. We tried 4 different courses and all were very good. I was going to order more food but the waitress said : This is enough! and she was right. She could have easily had us order more food. Highly recommend this place when you are in Chicago and have a Thai craving.

Prior to eating here, I could not imagine bad Thai food. It was the worst. Tasteless. Didn’t eat it and didn’t bring it home. That bad.

We went to Star of Siam because of our love for thai food. The environment is ok but the table was pretty dirty when we arrived and we cleaned it. And getting there if you have two strollers like us is a challenge since they don't have an accessible entrance. The food was good, not great, the service was pleasant and the price is ok. I would recommend the lobster cream cheese wonton.

We are arrive to star of Siam thanks to trip advisor. You couldn't care from the outside but the food and service is excellent! Dishes are sharing size.

Nice place, couldn't hear the music overheard, but it didn't sound Thai. We ordered Tom Yung soup along with red curry with chicken plus a large serving of rice. Soup was good and so too was the curry, although it tasted more like an Indian curry rather than Thai. Also, the chicken had very little taste. Service was good. Bathroom clean. No wifi. Why? Meh.

Good ambiance, clean. Decent service. Found the food to be very average, but good size portions. Wouldn't visit again though.

We ordered take out at the star of Siam. One order was shrimp wrapped in rice paper and then deep fried. The shrimp wasn't almost non-existent. We ordered pad Thai and what came was a takeout bowl of gelatinous noodles, all stuck together and six overcooked shrimp. There was no sauce in with the noodles. Frankly it was revolting and impossible to serve.

We paid an impromptu visit to this restaurant having walked out of a nearby overcrowded Italian restaurant earlier. We were in Thailand in January this year and regularly eat at Thai restaurants at home in the UK so are familiar with the food. Service was great and very friendly. Our waitress recommended a curry dish (rather than Pad Thai that I was going to have) and it was superb. The price was good and we would thoroughly recommend this restaurant. Seating is unlike any restaurant I have been to but I won’t spoil the surprise here..........

I was staying downtown for business and was in the mood for Thai food so I stopped here for dinner. The restaurant has fun seating options (sunken floors, pillows) and great artistic displays of Thai culture. I was seated quickly on a Monday night with no reservation, but by the time I finished my meal the place was near capacity. I would recommend making a reservation, particularly if you have more than 2 people in your party. I chose fresh spring rolls for an appetizer because it is a favorite of mine. However, this dish was a disaster. The rice paper was either insufficient to cover the entire roll or it was so soft from the over abundant sauce that it completely fell apart with every bite. The roll itself did not have the usual balance of fresh ingredients, rather it was comprised almost entirely of two large pieces of tofu. Worst of all, however, was the fact that the "fresh" spring rolls were drowning in sweet/sour sauce. I observed a lot of other diners ordering this dish so it clearly has some local fans, but if you travel as much as I do and eat Thai food regularly like I do... I strongly recommend avoiding this appetizer and trying something else. For dinner, I ordered the massaman curry with chicken. Again, this was a great disappointment compared to other restaurants' interpretations of this dish. I normally lick my dish clean because I enjoy massamum curry so much, but I left two-thirds of my dish behind in this case. The sauce lacked the richness that it traditionally has. In addition to the ingredients you would expect to find, this dish also included cherry tomatoes and pineapple chunks. It just didn't work with the other flavors. Overall, I was greatly disappointed in the food. I really liked the restaurant's decor and the service was excellent. If a group was going here, I might be persuaded to return to this place just for the decor and lively atmosphere... but I'll definitely need to try other items on the menu next time.

The food portions are generous but somewhat lacking in flavour. Ambience slightly cafeteria, ok for casual dining. Service was fine

My sister, husband and I ordered from this restaurant via Doordash and besides the fact that 2/3 dishes were wrong (included meat in tofu-only meals), the food was so sweet we couldn’t eat it! I’ve never eaten such a sweet (and inedible) pad Thai in my life. I will never order from this restaurant (or visit it) again.

Take out was fantastic! Good sized portions and everything was delicious! I went back again later because this is one of the best Thai places in the city; highly recommend!

My aunt's and I had dinner here before seeing a show and we could not be more impressed. The food was high quality the wait staff was amazing. The location to our hotel was convenient. We definitely will return.

Long-standing establishment here! Enjoyed the food, but plan on sharing an entree unless you are super starving! A must do again in the future.

Reasonable selection of reasonable Thai at a reasonable price in a comfortable environment. Staff was very gracious. Service was very fast.

When the metro caught on fire and derailed out lunch plans, we ended up checking out Star of Siam for lunch. Very high quality thai food, including some options I had not seen before in other restaurants. The place had a quiet feel about it, not like you couldn't talk, just a sort of tranquil feel. Very relaxed vibes. Our lunches were very good, and I thought the portions were great since I could finish it in one sitting and not have to tote around leftovers while exploring downtown.

It's been there for as long as I can remember. It's always good and always consistent. Can't go wrong with this place!

We come to Chicago a couple times a year to visit family and we almost always stop at Star of Siam for Thai food. It is very authentic tasting (Yes we have been to Thailand) :) and the staff is always friendly.

We found this place near our downtown hotel. An extensive menu and large portions. Not too expensive. The owner explained the menu to us and our waitress was very friendly and cooperative. The items we ordered were quite good and quickly served. Not too crowded since we were there at an odd hour but I suspect business is good for this establishment. We would recommend.

We are lovers of Thai food, and this place ranks as one of the best. Everything is freshly prepared so may take an extra minute or two. The Crab Rangoon ($7.25) was larger than usual and served with duck sauce....excellent. Pad Thai ($10.25) and Beef with Broccoli and ginger ($11.25) were both heaping servings and delicious. Congrats to a great chef!! Our server was Auttapong, a delightful young man who gave excellent service throughout. If we lived in the area this would be our “go to” place, but unfortunately we are just tourists passing through. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here.

Just wanted to share our experience here. Food was tasty (although not as spicy as one might expect). The people in the restaurant were very friendly. The owner / head chef offered us a sampler of some chicken that was already prepared. It was delicious as well. And the portions were extremely generous. The bill was reasonable for Chicago dining. All in all we were very happy stopping here. I think you will be as well.

There are so many good things to say about Star of Siam restaurant. The location is very city central. The atmosphere and decoration, music are great 👍. We ordered pad Thai, green papaya salad, star chicken and sticky rice with mango. The portion is big and the food are very tasty. I’m happy with the food and service experience. Highly recommended & would love to be back! Thank you!

Excellent food and service. Extensive menu has lots of variety. Several very tasty gluten free choices. Food arrives quickly and is nice and hot. Wonderful on a cold Chicago night. Spicy dishes will be adjusted to your taste. Great value!

My family wanted some good Thai food and we decided to go to Star of Siam. When we entered we saw 2 seating options. Either sit at a regular table or on a experience similar on a floor with cushions. We decided to sit on the cushions. It was comfortable. The atmosphere was terrific. The waiters were very friendly. We ordered a Thai Curry, Bowl of Jasmine Rice, Miso Soup, and Chicken Pad Ped also known as Red Hot Curry Chicken. Service was fast, they gave us all of are food in 5 minutes. The Thai Curry was amazing and if you like spicy food get it. The Jasmine Rice was delicious. The Miso Soup was awesome, and the Chicken Pad Ped was spectacular and was also spicy. It was for an unbelievable price. Fast Service, Delicious Food, Awesome Atmosphere, and Spectacular Prices, that's a perfect combination and that's what this Restaurant has to offer. So if your ever in Chicago and looking for some Thai food, come to Star of Siam

We went three times during our stay in Chicago. Each time the service was good and friendly. The food came quickly, especially the spring rolls, and was pretty good. Perhaps not the best Thai food we have had but good and plentiful.

We ordered lunch from their website as we usually do at about 12:30 and it did not get here until 2:05 pm. The delivery guy handed me a bag with spilled oil all over the meals (one of the containers had cracked open) and just left. The items were cold, spilled and they were not even what we ordered. We took pictures just in case. Then we called the restaurant to see if they could deliver the order again given the whole mess. Someone named Sam answered the phone and was really rude. He said WE needed to call him back when the owner was at the restaurant and the he would not take a message. Extremely poor service.

We ordered food to go while in Chicago. The green curry was ok. The massaman curry was delicious! Really, really good! My son got the chicken fried rice and it was good too! The prices were reasonable, especially for downtown Chicago. Overall, recommended.

I am a big fan of Thai food so while in Chicago I thought I would give this place a try. It was not the best Thai food I have had but read on and see why I would come back. I found the menu had quite a good selection of options and they were quick to let you know that they have vegetarian options too. I had a basil and rice noodle dish with shrimp and chicken. The entree was had a great intense basil flavor in the beginning but that seemed to fade away. Maybe I just got used to it. I also had the spring rolls and they were quite tasty too. The dinning room was open and tables are not crowded on top of one another. The bar is a bit odd located by the register and looked to be several tables pushed together to form a square in which someone stood to make drinks. Not a big bar scene so I was not too worried about that. My waiter offered some great suggestions and the service was friendly and quick. I would certainly come back again.

The pad thai noodles seemed to be drenched in a super sweet sauce- it tasted almost like apple cider... the vegetable spring rolls were uncooked. Unfortunately, we didn't discover this until we brought the food back to our hotel after ordering carry-out... take your money elsewhere: you've been warned.

We were happy with the potstickers and beef skewers for appetizers. Of the 4 dinners that were ordered only one was enjoyed. The pad thai was so disappointing. We didn't finish our meals nor did we care to take the leftovers home. The service was good, we were just disappointed with the food.

We had the pad Thai and the Tom Khan Kai soup. Both were delicious and hearty servings. The servers didn’t pay us too much attention but we were ok with that. Definitely a good choice for a tasty Thai meal.

Loved the seating, the ambiance, and the relaxed atmosphere. The pad thai was great, and so was the spicy beef app. Can't wait to come back and try more!!

I was in Chicago for meetings and planned to pick up take out Italian to take back to my hotel but took a walk and passed by Star of Siam while visiting the bookstore next door. The menu looked good and it was busy so I went in. The best thing I can say about it is that they do welcome solo diners as there were quite a few but the food wasn't good. I ordered the Singapore noodles that were supposed to be noodles with shrimp and squid in a curry sauce. The noodles were made with two shrimp, four pieces of rubbery squid, loads of carrot slices and some sugar snap peas but they were just hot, not flavorful and not curry tasting either. The patrons on both sides of me left half their food and while the portions were large, I have to think that part of it might have been that their dishes were no better than mine.

After reading the menu from the sidewalk on a dreary day, the fairly lengthy soup options initially drew us in. The restaurant is casual and attractive and the service attentive. Two of us shared a large bowl of chicken rice soup that would have easily served 4. It smelled and tasted delicious, topped with cilantro and green onions. We moved on to chicken and vegetable gyoza that was pretty good. The least impressive item was the tempura, with batter so thick that some of it was still raw inside. I’d definitely go back, but probably stick to soup and try an entree.

ok food, not too spicy, fast service. servings are big so no need for a starter. one can take takeout as well.

Service is not good. One entree was not as ordered and no one came to check. No water refill and no check until we flagged down a server. Food is average. Everyone was pleasant but just not interested.

it was short $5 UBER from HAMILTON! upon entering the service was warm and professional, the atmosphere is really my style. warm colors, fabrics and benches with pillow to seat those interested. While i have the privilege of growing up on Thai i Seattle this was average. If you're not very familiar or don't like your food "thai hot" it will do just fine. The thai rice was ok. Pad Thai was good with a smaller than normal noodle. The shrimp won ton soup was excellent with homemade shrimp won tons. THAT bowl is worth a 2nd trip. There was A LOT of take out while we were there.

Went on a busy Sat. night and was seated quickly. Excited because it smelled great. The pot stickers were light and delicious. The cashew chicken was plentiful but the red peppers were barely cooked and the whole dish had no flavor. (had to add soy sauce).

I can't speak to the authenticity (first time for Thai food for me), but the pad Thai and the mussaman (?) Curry we're excellent. Added bonus:. Awesome new/used bookstore right next door with friendly and very helpful staff.

After being seated immediately on a Friday night, my daughter and I were charmed by the sunken tables and cultural displays. The menu offers all the Thai standards as well as more adventurous choices. Our order came quickly and was delicious!

The food was great! The service was fast and friendly. The food was reasonably priced. Atmosphere was pleasant. Highly recommend

This is like one of those Polynesian places from the 70s that puts pineapple and sickly sweet syrup all over everything. Nasty. Run!

Service was friendly and good very tasty. Portions are very large so no need to order a starter unless very hungry or sharing in a group. Very good value.

We were a group of 13 ladies. We had resevations at 7pm on a Friday. We were seated around 7:20ish. The manager came out to greet us. He stated that he would start us out with 3 dishes of papaya salad and 3 dishes of chicken, since they were shirt staffed that night, and then we could order off the menu. We were thrilled. We thought that was great customer service to give us complementary food. We were wrong. Next, the waitress came out and gave us a piece of paper and pen. She asked that we take our own orders, to help her out, since she was so busy. We were happy to comply. BIG mistake. When the food started coming out, we were getting the wrong orders, left and right. My sister ordered some kind of chicken (it was a Thai name that i can't remember). A waiter came out and kept asking whi orderd the basil chicken. We kept telling him no one did. He asked our waitress who pointed to my sister. When she said she ordered a dish by a different name, the waitress explained that they were the same dish, just different names. How the heck were we suppose to know that? But, that pretty much set the tone for the rest of the food we ordered. We just kept getting the wrong food. And we kept getting yelled at for not knowing what we ordered, even though the wait staff wouldn't use the correct names for th dishes. To top it off, we were told we had to pay for the papaya salad and chicken. That it was a misunderstanding. That really upset my group. The only good thing was our poor waitress who was so overwhelmed, but, very nice and professional. And the food was very good. But, everyone in my group agreed that we would never return.

Our go-to Thai restaurant when in the city. A wide range of dishes. Food and ingredients are very fresh and high quality in our opinion. Many of the Thai staff have been there for years. Nicely decorated dining area. An FYI: Two types of dining table settings: 1) traditional tables and chairs with backs or sitting on cushions at a table with a recessed floor for your legs and no back support. Service is usually quite fast.

Always seeking out good Thai when I travel and Star of Siam is average. The service was good and the venue was clean. I did enjoy my shrimp egg rolls but the curry chicken was below average. Too much potato and pineapple and not enough chicken. Will continue my search when in Chicago.

There is soooo much better Thai. Passed this place and thought why not. Should have done a quick search n review first but didn't. Ambiance is really nice for this place and the waitress, Thai, very nice and friendly but that was really it. Viet spring rolls we made with imitation crab and tofu. I can handle to Tofu but the imitation, com'on, it's so inexpensive and easy to do it with a thin slice of roast pork or slice one shrimp length-wise and use that. And after all that it was just tasteless. Also had the Yum Woon Sen. When it came out I got 2 shrimp with it and some tough chicken. This dish is not supposed to be made like Pad Thai with a red sauce but that is what it was, and a ton of noodles and nothing else, just noodles. Barely sprinkled with spring onions, this is supposed to be a fresh clean salad usually made with shrimp and squid, maybe some chicken. Not even close. This was just not Yum Woon Sen. Wife had the Chicken Larb, (Lap) which wasn't too bad actually but could've and should've had more flavor. If they can make the chicken why not the beef? which is usually better. I scored it mid range on price because you don't get what you pay for So much better Thai out there folks.

We were walking back to our hotel, cold and hungry, and happened to see this restaurant. At 2:00pm on a weekday, there were still people in it, and how can you go wrong with Thai food, but then again you never know and I didn't check with my friends who post on TripAdvisor. The gods were definitely watching over us, because we both ordered yummy meals, huge portions. Rice is extra, but you don't need it.... except the sauces are amazing. The meals were served very hot, and they had the right amount of spice for a 'one pepper'. I ordered the ginger chicken and my husband ordered minced chicken with basil. The stir fried veggies we're done perfectly.

With a short stay in downtown Chicago, I decided to search for the closest Thai restaurant. Star of Siam was just a short 20 minute walk from my hotel. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I ordered the fried wontons - shrimp filled. They were incredible. The wontons at our usual Thai restaurant have a chicken filling. The shrimp filling was a delicious surprise. I ordered the Pad Kra-Pao as my main entree - you have to order rice separately. The dish was incredible. Unlike my local Thai restaurant, this dish had tomatoes and sliced red and green peppers. I ordered Thai spicy and the dish was spicy but not over the top - I like very spicy food. I will definitely be dining at Star of Siam on my next visit to Chicago.

I love Thai food and had visited this restaurant 10 years ago and found it to be just okay. I was pleasantly surprised this time. The Yellow Curry Chicken was delicious, as were the Potstickers. This is a good place to go with friends or family.

We went there Sunday evening by a coincidence because our first choice restaurant was crowded. The were also very busy at prime supper time but still polite and friendly. The food was really good and close to the real Asian taste. The price is absolutely fair in regards to the size you get. Highly recommended to visit.

Restaurant has simple interiors that gives you the sense of being served home cooked Thai food. My impression did not fail. Food was delicious. Loved the Pla Sam Rose - deep fried red snapper with three flavored sauce, Panang chicken curry and Tom Yum shrimp soup.

The food is great and reasonably priced. The setting is beautiful inside and there were a lot of other Thai folks eating here. Very close to Michigan Avenue if you're doing that kinda tourist thing. Lots of bars nearby, so would be a great place to stop in between getting bar hops.

I was really disappointed with the food. The best dish was the steamed white rice. The spicy beef appetizer tasted rotten. The Nam Tok was edible, but it was drenched in fish sauce. It would have been good if they used 1/10th the amount of fish sauce. The Pad Thai was a real disappointment - bland and flat. It had no spring onions to add the nice crunch, no carrot slivers, no salt. They did not even season the eggs before cooking. It was edible, but not enjoyable. We won't be back. The drinks were good and the service was stellar.

Was across the street from our hotel - decided to try - wow! Did not disappoint. Excellent wait staff - great bartender - and the food was marvelous! We had intended on visiting different places, but decided as well to come back for a second evening the night before we left. You will be surprised !

Great Thai, you know its authentic when papaya salad and Beer Lao is on the menu ! staff are helpful, efficient and attentive, and food arrives in record time even when restaurant is busy. Loved it so much we returned two nights running. Prices are very reasonable.

My friend and I came here for a late dinner on Friday night. Even though they were quite busy, we were promptly seated. I ordered the Vietnamese spring rolls with crab in them and soup. The spring rolls were huge and delicious. The soup was good. My friend ordered a curry chicken dish with broccoli, steamed rice, and crab Rangoon. She liked all of her food. I had a couple of the crab Rangoon and it was very good. The order of crab Rangoon was huge with at least 6 pieces in the order. The food came out quickly and the waitress was nice. Glad we picked this place for our last meal in Chicago. ..

If you are in Chicago, this is the place not to be missed. I am thai and trust me, Star of Siam is the best Thai restaurant there. I did try a few Thai restaurants but never returned to them. I discovered this place by accident and felt so fortunate to have great meals either at lunch or dinner on my last few days there. The service is great; staff are efficient, friendly and helpful. The food is superb! All the dishes I had are exactly like “REAL” Thai food. Highly recommend Star of Siam to everyone.

A cozy little eatery nestled in an older building on Illinois just off State in Chicago. Perfect setting for a quiet dining experience. A gracious and attentive staff member was eager to navigate us through the menu and explain different options. Appetizers and entrees were flavored and cooked wonderfully . We totally enjoyed everything we ordered! The owner even stopped by to wish us happy holidays and make sure everything was to our liking! I would definitely recommend this gem for a very special dining experience 😊

Location is by the river, and it wasn't too hard to get street parking even at 6pm on a weeknight ($4 per hour.) I had crab Rangoon, and it was the best I have ever had. I also had the fish cakes and others had various meat dishes and they loved it. Nice seating. For sure check this place out if you are in the mood for Thai food and in the city. Staff was helpful and nice.

Went Thursday at 5 to avoid the crowd. Lovely contemporary decor with attentive waitstaff. The food is excellent, with good descriptions in the menu for us novices. I had the Pad Woon Sen and my SO had the Pad Khee Mao, her usual, with an order of Tom Yum soup to go. Will go back!!!

Since discovering Star of Siam during the pandemic, it's become a favorite first stop for dining in Chicago. Great food and service, inviting ambience. I've never had anything on the menu I didn't find delicious. Seasoning tends to be on the Thai-hot side, but you can request adjustments to your taste. Portions are large and shareable, while prices remain very reasonable.

I discovered this fine restaurant more than 20 years ago. Thank God they are still there went I visit Chicago. This restaurant mixes fresh vegetables and seafood’s into a celebration of eclectic Thai cuisine. Simple things like the peanut sauce and the Thai iced tea round everything out. We went with another couple, one of which who was a vegan, and we all found a huge selection to choose from. You can order spice free to burning hot. And save room for dessert. The decor is simple but very tasteful Thai. The service was prompt and the surroundings clean. I go with five stars on the Star of Siam.

My daughter found this restaurant on her way back from the bookstore. Since we all love Thai, and she spent a semester Thailand, we agreed to go. We had green curry, pad Thai, red curry, and a dish with wide noodle. Everything was tasty and well prepared. The service was good. The place was lively and full of locals. We all had a great time.

I love Thai food and this place did not disappoint. The apps were excellent. I usually get gyoza every Thai place I go and theirs was great! Also the shu mai is fantastic! They had many different gluten free options and did serve beer, wine, and mixed drinks. I had the pad prik for an entree which was spicy but not too hot. Perfect for me, who likes spice but not burn.

Found this restaurant simply walking by. Good food. Good prices. Fast service. Recommend cashew chicken and the red chicken curry for sure!

Food was decent - rice dish was better than the Pad Thai which was slightly disappointing. We were hoping for a bit more spice / flavour to the Pad Thai but it just seemed slightly tart.

Lovely afternoon lunch in the heart ❤️ of the city! I love Thai food because I've been there a few times, but not everyone has the talent to make it good! This restaurant has it all, great food, good service, and a great selection of dishes! I ordered the spring rolls and the chicken fried rice! It was delicious! Would go back if I had the time, but only a few days before I head home!

Good portions and generally good, but doesn't taste very authentic. Ordered beef noodle soup but noodle sucked all the soup. Also, ordered peanut chicken, but chicken itself was a bit bland. Nice decor though.

We ate here late yesterday afternoon, feeling in the mood for Thai food and not wanting to break the bank. My friend and I ordered two different chicken dishes, which were quite tasty and not too spicy. The service was friendly and it is an attractively decorated restaurant, just off State Street, across from the Palomar Hotel, where we were staying. I love the hotel, but it gets expensive eating there consistently. Star of Siam gets a thumbs up from me.

We enjoyed the entrees. The pot stickers & shrimps on blankets were very nice, the sauce on the spicy beef was very hot. Asked for the chicken cashew to be mild but found it very plain so wished we had asked for medium spice. Good sized portions. May go back after we have tried the other 9,500 restaurants in Chicago.

Excellent service!! Delicious food & home like environment. The owner was amazing and very friendly. Best Thai food in Chicago

We stumbled across this Thai restaurant by accident and were delighted with our discovery. The food was fresh and tasty and portions were generous. Staff were attentive and friendly.

This restaurant is a bit off the beaten track in a sea of expensive restaurants. I stumbled on this by chance and as I was getting hangry, I decided to give it a go. The service was quick and efficient. The Phad Thai was hot, tasty and exactly in line with what I expected. Staff were friendly.

Welcomed and sat rapidly and an order for appetisers and drinks taken. First choice of beer wasn’t available. Appetisers of egg rolls brought out uncooked (still frozen in the middle) - replace quickly with no fuss. Mains were tasty enough and decent sized portions (more than we could eat) Thai dishes were average, I’ve had far better Penang curries around the world.

The restaurant is super cute with cushioned platform seating. We started with the Tod Mun Pla (fish cakes) which were amazing! That was followed by the Mussaman Curry with beef and the Almond Beef... they were both okay but we thought the flavours were not very complex or authentic (no spice at all). We finished with the mango sticky rice - the rice was great but it wasn’t a Thai mango and was a bit underripe. It was overall a satisfying dinner though. I think this place would be great for lunch.

Great food, always consistent and the staff is just like Thailand...the land of smiles. I start with pot stickers or the dumpling soup and follow with the basil chicken dish but there are many to choose from. I believe they deliver but I live so close I come by about once every other week and am happy to support this local restaurant. P.S. I usually come alone and since its a sit down I usually shy away from that but here, they welcome me which makes me come back every time.

This is the best Thai restaurant that I have ever been to. The Tom Yum soup is my favorite. You HAVE to eat here!!! However, parking is a real Chicago bear. So, what you do is call them (312-670-0100) as you pull up or a little ahead of time and tell them you need valet service and will be there in ---- min. It is only $8 (much cheaper than any lots in the area).

This is a really good thai place. Cheaper than some others nearby. It's not super spicy, in my opinion, depending on the level of thai hot you prefer. The decor is cute and all of the employees seem to pitch in and work as a team. Our water was constanly filled, our old plates quickly removed. And the main plate and soup was yummy.

I liked this place. I just didn't love it. The fresh vietnamese spring rolls were ok at best. I ordered the panang nue (beef curry) it was very good. I think the beef could have been more tender, but the overall flavor was very good. I thought it was interesting that the rice does not come with entrees. That was a first for me. I would go back again and try other entrees.

We’ve were in Chicago for 4 nights and ate dinner in your restaurant twice on recommendation from the guys at ACME hotel and just want say thank you for the incredible food and amazingly friendly service each time. Price was excellent value and the portion size far more than we needed. Cheers from New Zealand.

We booked our table on their website for 8:45pm, when we arrived the waitress informed us to be quick in ordering because the kitchen was already closing. Despite the fact that there was half of the restaurant empty, when asked to be put in a table other than the one in front of the kitchen the same waitress simply told us no. At the end of dinner she simply brought us the bill saying that we had to pay, when there were still at least 5 tables around us where customers were still eating. Overall, therefore, it was an unpleasant experience in an unkempt establishment (pics show just half of it) with food that did not impress me.

My parents and I ate at Star of Siam for the first time last week and we were delighted by quite a few things. It is located very conveniently in the city and yet the prices are very reasonable. The food, which was generously portioned, was very tasty. I had the Lard Nar (rice noodles with shrimp and Chinese broccoli in a sweet sauce), my mom had the Kang Kheaw Wan (green curry beef) and my dad had the Almond Beef, which also had water chestnuts, which he loves. We always try a bit of each others' dishes at any restaurant and while we all agreed that all three were tasty, my mom was the only one who was able to handle the spiciness of the green curry. My dad and my tongues and throats felt super fiery with each bite. Admittedly though, we are kind of weak when it comes to spice hahaha. I also loved the unique seating, the art on the walls, and the little candles on the tables and windowsills.

Recently I went to Star of Siam for dinner. It had been recommended to me by the hotel staff a number of times, but I had not made a trip over there. I ordered my "usual" when trying out a Thai restaurant on my first visit: An order of crab rangoon and the sweet basic chicken with rice. When the crab rangoon came out piping hot and huge (there were eight of them!), I was excited. The dipping sauce was a hot sweet and sour and it was such a great appetizer. To say the sweet basil chicken with rice was unsuccessful would be an understatement - the chicken was practically ground chicken, the tomatoes were an odd item in the dish and left it soggy, and though the menu said it was a spicy entree, I did not find anything nearing a spice at all on my plate until I went and got the red pepper flakes that were never offered to me by my waiter. Another down side - you have to pay for your side of rice as it is not included in the rate of the entree. Overall, I would absolutely go back for the crab rangoon, but get it to go. The rest of the food and service was very sub par so I wouldn't bother. (The crab rangoon were a 4.5 on their own, so everything else dropped this rating to a 3, which is kind.)

This is a restaurant to which I've returned several times over the years I've been visiting Chicago. Overall, I'd call it comfort food, and a restfully quiet venue. Not a restaurant where one goes To Be Seen, or to have fashionably gourmet food, but rather a place to go after a long busy day.

Party of five visited for dinner on august 6 th. We mentioned five times food must be medium not spicy. First ordered fried veg rolls.worst, chewy and old with no taste.our curry was so spicy -ent back to lower the spicy came back with same spice. The padthai was equally spicy non eatable. Waiter man in 50 was non apologetic and not helpful. Took all food and took for homeless hoping he did not had heart burn.ONLY DECENT ITEM WAS STICKYRICE MANGO AS OUR STOMACH WAS ON FIRE.DO NOT EAT HERE….WE ALL WENTHUNGRY. OUR VEGETARIAN ROLLS WEREWITH FAKE CRABS AND SENT BACK DESPITE ASKING MANY TIMES WE ARE VEGETARIAN, NO FISH SAUCE,NO EGGS ,NO MEAT.

Very quick service once you get a table. The food is served to share and it is very tasty. The place is not too big and does get busy so if possible make a reservation.

I had a business colleague with me and we decided that we would go to a Thai restaurant and I was glad we chose this one. The ambience of the place was just right and you had the option to simply sit on cushions that many customers decided to do. We sat on normal seats. Food and service was very good and the Thai green curry was one of the best ever I had before which was spiced just right.....by the way they would happily had more spice if you required. Plenty of choices of drink but I wouldn't have the tea as it was simply a green tea teabag. Overall price for me was very cheap and so would highly recommend this restaurant.

I've here several times during business travel. The food is good, not great. The portions are appropriate, not ridiculously large. The staff were courteous. The restaurant is casual, attractive, and clean.

If you're looking for the best pad thai in Chicago .This is it STAR OF SIAM.Aside from pad thai they also have a wide selection of Asian cuisine. The curry was good ,siomai and beef skewers .The prices are also reasonable and the servings are big and enough if you are going with a group. The ambiance inside the resto feels like you are really in Asia . ❤️❤️❤️

This restaurant was recommended by the hotel because it was close to the hotel. It turned out it was good, especially Vietnamese Spring Rolls and Star's Chicken Delight (Cashew Chicken), two dishes that I ordered (see pictures). The service was quick although when I came there it was quite busy. All in all, I think this restaurant could be the option for those who like Thai foods.

Delicious Thai food and nice Thai style atmosphere. The mango martini is a perfect drink to go with your food.

Huge portions, extremely flavorful, and priced right. Ideally bring some friends and family and share some dishes. I ate there two days in a row and found food and service consistent.

Our favorite restaurant. The food is excellent and relatively inexpensive. They have valet parking, which is very helpful because parking is a bear.

Nice entering here when it was chilly outside and nice, warm and cosy inside. A nice item in the restaurant is the way the tables in the middle are sunken, giving the impression you sit on the floor. The restaurant seems to be popular as also a lot of people entered for take away. The waitress was very friendly and service was fast. The fish cakes were on the menu as starter, but one portion is also enough for two. they were very tasty. After that I had the panang but then with chicken, which was no problem at all. A tasty meal for a friendly price. Recommended!

The restaurant is nicely furbished, the staff very fast and friendly. The main Thai dishes were really good (especially the Green Curry) and quite hot. The starters (fresh spring roll and shrimp wanton) were less good. But I would come back for an easy and fast Thai...

We ordered takeout on New Years Eve. Everything was hot and ready. We liked the appetizers - chicken satay and dumplings. We did not like the Pad See Ew. It was tasteless. We have had a lot of Thai food.I would go back. The dining area looked very inviting.

Star of Siam Restaurant has been here for ages and is a well known Thai food standby by both locals and area employers (catering). We started with Gyo Tod (fried wontons) which were unique as you usually don’t see shrimp wontons on Thai menus! They were served with in-house made plum sauce and were generously filled. Very good delicious starter to dinner. We ordered Pad Ruam Mit (mixed vegetables) with chicken although you can have tofu or other meat choices. Also, Panang Nue (beef curry) which didn’t disappoint. Huge amount of beef in the rich flavorful curry! Both dishes offered generous amounts of tender meat and vibrant flavors. Notables: 1. If you like your dish spicy hot then you need to tell the server or you’ll get your dish served flat tasting (in my opinion). 2. Jasmin rice is extra and doesn’t come with your meal but the food was really good quality and generously portioned so it wasn’t a big deal. Restaurant was clean, service was excellent and friendly. Tables and booths are very roomy.

We ate here on a Friday evening. The place was moderately busy but we were seated right away. The décor is typical Thai and you can sit on pillows around the tables. The menu has a lot of variety... Some spicy, some gluten free, variety of curry dishes, noodle dishes... Lots to choose from and all at very reasonable prices, especially considering its right in the heart of River North. We had the Pad Thai with chicken and the beef with mushrooms and almonds. Both were excellent. Fresh ingredients... Large portions. With a glass of wine our total came to $27. Will definitely keep this in our list of places to eat on Chicago.

Star if Siam had very interesting and nice decor. A varied menu, all sounded good, difficult to chose. Waitstaff helped me decide. Food was very good. Second time there and I would return.

We got the cashew chicken and chicken pad siew. So yummy! The vegetable in the cashew chicken were so fresh and they had red peppers instead of green which I love. Very reasonable prices for downtown. Delivery was fast, definitely recommend

Friendly staff. Pleasant ambiance. Authentic Thai food (I think) for a very reasonable price. Chicken satay as a starter to share, fresh and juicy meat with a tasteful spicy sauce. We shared both vegetarian dishes and meat dishes. All were pleasant.

Stopped in here with the woman for my first taste of Thai food. Split the Pad Thai with chicken and Crab Rangoon and it was very good. I was honestly hoping for a little more spice. The location was within 2 blocks of Michigan Avenue and the waitress did a great job. Will be back if in the area.

We ordered a few dishes of which one was good. Thai basil fried Rice. All others were less than ok. The fried whole fish, had a fishy smell. Definitely should have gone elsewhere.

We went here for lunch and had the shrimp dumplings as well as the beef and broccoli dish. The dumplings were great but the sauce that they serve with it is amazing!! We shared the beef and broccoli which was still too much food for two people. He beef and broccoli dish was loaded with so many different flavors. The food as well as the service was beyond our expectations. I would highly recommend the Star of Siam while you are in the city, you will not be dissapponted.

The food here is Fantastic. The portion size is ago quite reasonable. Try the red and/or green curry with beef. Went for lunch after 1:30. The crowd was much smaller. It is moderately priced. The Tom Yum soup with shrimp is great. Have it with rice.

The most amazing Thai food ever - portions are huge so be careful not to over order.....Amazing value and friendly service. Also ideal for take-out if in a rush - the best thing however - it won't break the bank!

Booked this restaurant based on previous reviews. I have to say, our experience had more in common with the poorer reviews. The food whilst large in quantity lacked taste, the Pad Thai was not good at all. The service also wasn't what was expected, it was though Waitress wanted us out of there a.s.a.p. Paying the bill was a palaver. The Credit Card reader couldn't get a signal, then didn't recognise my card details when inserted leading to the Cashier entering all the details manually. Good grief!!

I have been going to this restaurant for many years I love their appetizers The place is casual, friendly and very responsible. It is in downtown Chicago and the service is great Spicy and tasty fast Thai food I invited many friend there, they loved it❤️ If u visit Chicago u must stop at this nice restaurant, Enjoy

Best Thai since vongs... The food was a festival of flavors! Fast service, pleasant people. This is a definite return spot... Price was extremely reasonable. I just can't believe the quality and flavor.

Spring rolls Vietnamese style made with thick cheap lettuce and stuffed with mystery meat which felt like rubber. Beef penang curry was the absolute worst I ever had. Tasteless with tough meat. Had to ask for sauce to add flavor. Place was empty but we kept having to get up to get their attention. Hadn't been in years. Total deterioration.

One evening, on our way back to our hotel room, we dropped by the Star of Siam and ordered some food for Take-Out. It was an unusually hot day in late September and a waiter brought us, unbidden, glasses of wonderfully cold water while we waited for our food. Our meal was ready in 20 mins and off we went. Our supper was truly delicious!! Thank you.

Really expensive for the portion you get. But the one star review is because the waitress ran after me because she wasn't happy with the amount I tipped. Shameless, in my opinion. I will not be returning.

Needed a quick lunch during our business trip. Star of Siam was convenient. Food was alright, we had better Thai food before. Good prices.

We were staying nearby and love Thai food and ordered take out. My wife ordered churchee salmon and loved it but she could not finish the large portion. We shared edamame and vegetable fried rice, again large portions, which were very good. I also ordered Tom Koa soup with chicken, which was very good, but very large and I could not finish it-it would satisfy two people. The staff was very friendly. I recommend this place but understand the meals are enough for two to share. We could not even save the leftovers for the next day as I usually do as we were visiting and staying at a hotel.

Such warm, nice and colourful place to fill your heart up with happiness. Good selection of beers (bottled). Quick service and very pleasant staff. Delicious food, though portions are too generous ... when I say too generous, I think it is an understatement. Boxed the uneaten, and I could not even finish it in the next meal. Total yum food ... highly recommended.

Not that much to say other than this is a good place if you're looking for cheap, quickly served and fair Thai cuisine in a relaxed and spacious environment. Don't expect a refined culinary experience, but it does the job if you have a craving for Thai food. Waitresses are also very nice and pay enough attention to you as a customer.

We visited last night. The service was very prompt and we were seated and given glasses of water. We have been eating and cooking Thai food for over 30 years. We ordered the Som Tum and a cucumber salad. When we ordered it, the older waitress (maybe part owner) warned us it was spicy. When I replied that I knew that, she gave me a blank look. The Som Tum was probably the best we've had. We only ordered appetisers (prawn dumplings were good too) and the Larp. I asked for some more chillies as it wasn't very spicy. I was told they didn't have any fresh ones and was given some dried ones. That was OK. We had 4 beers. When I paid I put a tip on the total. A waitress who hadn't served us came back and said it wasn't enough, then asked if the service wasn't good. We sometimes tip in Australia, as we used to work in hospitality a long time ago. The wage there is around $22 per hour plus penalties of between 50 and 100% for weekends and public holidays. So I made it 15%. She didn't even say thanks. The owner (male) just glared at us on the way out. We wouldn't go back again if we lived in Chicago.

I went here for a late lunch. I had the Mussaman Curry and it was delicious! Just the right amount of spiciness! The portion was huge!! I did have to order rice on the side. The service was prompt until it was time to get the bill, that was a little slow but otherwise a delightful lunch.

Large portions of the most tasteless Thai food I have ever had. The restaurant was packed, the servers were running around like chicken without head. The place felt like a food factory.

Lovely unpretentious Thai restaurant, great tasting dishes, fast service and ever so helpful. We enjoyed our meal so much we ordered a delivery from them (not thru a third party) to out hotel a few nights after we first went there. Delivery was only $4. (Order directly thru their website). Once again the food was great. Portion sizes were huge, so maybe think of sharing one dish between two. Special call-out for the sticky rice and banana dessert - enough for two, but being a greedy pig I ate both portions! Lastly and importantly great value for money. If I’m ever back in Chicago I’ll definitely return.

I have been here twice now and will be back. The food is tasty and are larger portions. You can order your own entrees or eat family style and sample some of many dishes. It isn't fancy but feels unique with it decor and bench seats.

After a really pleasant evening and good food we were challenged on the amount of tip we left saying it was not enough, if there is a specific amount to be left then that should be stated as a service charge and not a tip. Very disappointing.....

We go to Chicago once a year & always go here for lunch. We always ask for one of the center tables - they are sunken and fun to sit in. The portion sizes are generous so two people could easily share an entree but we have our favorite things so we get - the soup chicken noodle...huge bowl that serves 4, the chicken satay & the shrimp pad Thai. It is all excellent. The service is very fast.

Love the big, open windows along Illinois. I sat here, enjoying the breeze, the slight sounds of the city, and some very good food. I had the deep-friend mini vegetable egg rolls. They came out quickly; Perfectly done. They had a slight hint of oil, and the veggies inside were crisp-tender. Can’t say they were the best I’ve had (because my memory isn’t that good), but they ranked right up there. I then moved on to a big bowl of Tom Kha Kai soup. My memory is fine here. It’s the best I’ve ever had … and I’ve spent many weeks in Thailand. It was the perfect balance of tang, coconut (not too heavy in the broth), gentle herbs and roots, and spice. I’d kill for their recipe. I finished it off with the Thai banana in sticky rice. Really good. Waaay too much for one though. It came with three banana-rice ‘packets’ individually wrapped in banana leaves. I would have been good with just one…but I ate all three because they were good. I’ll define come back if I’m ever in the neighborhood.

Excellent casual Thai restaurant. Spring rolls, soup and salmon. Very popular in the city with the real Thai food.

Family diner for 6; very good value for money overall. We had 2 starters (house special crab dish was very disappointing though) then 3 main courses plus extra white rice (which we should not have taken since dishes are huge) total was around $80 with 3 teas and a coke.

Been going here for about a decade now, when I am in Chicago. Food is high quality, authentically spiced, and reasonable by Chicago standards.

Busy but highly efficient staff. Seating was unusual (see pics) but fun. Chicken satay, Pad see eiw, Massamun curry were terrific. Only the eggplant dish was a disappointment. Plenty left over for lunch the next day. Nice bookstore next door.

Several of the appetizers were really good but we found the entrees to be pretty average. Nice staff and restaurant is clean, but middle of the road.

We stayed at the Kimpton Hotel Palomar, so Star of Siam (which was right across the street) was really easy to reach. In a city well-known for overpriced food, this restaurant was really a bargain. We payed under $90 for 4 people (including appetizers and drinks), and still were served authentic, high-quality food! Our server wasn't the most attentive, but that was fine considering that the restaurant was full of people. She was honest with us, especially when my wife and daughter requested their dishes without fish sauce. Both of them are vegetarian, and they were able to one reqeust their dishes with tofu and without fish sauce. The chefs were able to provide a good vegetarian meal for anyone with dietary restrictions! We sat at one of the tables in the center, and there were pillows on which to sit. Altogether, the atmosphere was amazing and we are very likely to return!

My friend and I were looking for a place to get Thai food near our hotel after a busy day of conference meetings. The restaurants recommended by out hotel were farther away than we felt like walking, so we did a Google search and ended up at Star of Siam. It was absolutely wonderful. I asked for a fruity drink and our server recommended a mango martini, something I never would have ordered from the menu, but truly enjoyed. We started with the fresh spring rolls, which were delicious and a a generous portion for two to share. I had the mild curry chicken and it was one of the best curries I have ever had. The atmosphere at the restaurant was delightful. It seems to be a neighborhood hang-out and we had nice conversations with a couple of other customers. Even though the restaurant was busy on this Saturday night, our server made us feel completely welcome as we sat at her table much longer than normal. All in all, this was a lovely experience at a very moderate price.

We were so pleased to be greeted by our friendly and attentive waiter. He made sure that our needs as vegetarians were met, and our food arrived in just a few minutes!

We vacationed in Chicago as soon as travel opened back up. We were staying downtown and stumbled upon this restaurant. Out of exhaustion from walking, we decided to give it a try. We were NOT disappointed. The food was excellent and you'll leave with leftovers. I can't even remember everything we ordered but at least I took pictures! The Pad Thai noodles were excellent. Service was a bit slow but the restaurant just returned to normal working operations because of the pandemic.

We sampled almost everything from mild to spicy, from chicken to shrimp to veggies. Nothing disappointed. The spicy could have been spicier, but the flavor was wonderful. The specialty drinks were great as well. He won tons were especially good. Great condiments on the table. High recommendations.

Was in Chicago and wanted to try Thai cuisine so visited this based on the high ratings. Not impressed. Very average food. Chicken curry was very strange with green peas and potatoes in it. Lard nar was terrible. Stir fry beef was decent. Nothing tasted "Thai"(based on many other Thai restaurants we have eaten in). Very basic place (didn't seem very clean). Washroom was stinking horribly.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. Service was prompt and food was great. We shared an appetizer, a red curry and rice, which was more than enough for two. Prices were very reasonable too. So glad we came here, as we love our Thai food in Australia.

The restaurant was recommended by the staff at ACME Hotel and we weren’t disappointed. Attentive friendly staff and the food was plentiful and really tasty. So good that we went back there on our last night in Chicago.

The place had fast service.. Big portions and good food. Soup , fried rice and was papaya salad was v tasty. The red curry was ok.

From the location, you would think this place would be terribly expensive, but it is very reasonable for anywhere, especially so close to Michigan ave. it is very busy, but we were seated immediately. They do great Thai soups and stir fries. There is a full bar. Wine list is really small. Things come out from the kitchen kind of randomly, which I have experienced a lot in other Thai restaurants.

What a find & right next door to our hotel, The Royal Sonesta River North. We can see it from our window, but it took 3 days before we would try it. The place is just perfect, staff so friendly & helpful, but the food speaks for itself, Fresh & Delicious

The worst pad Thai we have ever eaten, we ate on October 1 -23 with my daughter and the dish was too sweet, we asked for a change and they brought us two others without flavor, the worst thing is that they charged for one although we stated that we didn't like it either, that dish really nothing to do with a good restaurant and so well rated, from the visual point of view we knew that we made a mistake visiting this restaurant. Very badly.

Came here on a school trip and everyone seemed to enjoy. They were really nice and accommodating of all food issues and the food was very flavorful.

the food was far from exceptional, limit ok, and even though we were not done with our dinner, they asked us to leave because they wanted to close for the night... really not felt welcome, not really respectful of their consumers and again, the food was definitely not worth it. We will never go back...

Wanted Thai for dinner and was not disappointed. Restaurant is nicely decorated and visually pleasing. For an appetizer we ordered the fried tofu vegetarian served with spicy sweet & sour peanut plum sauce. Tofu was light and airy with a good crisp to it and the sauce really made it shine. We ordered two main dishes, both were large portions. One was the spicy eggplant stirfried in black bean sauce. It was spicy with a nice flavor. Rice had to be perchased separately. The other dish was the pad see eiw with chicken. Good flavor, added chili paste since I like it hotter. Great meal.

Good menu with reasonable pricing. Food was great. Service is fast. Lots of customers. Great location.

This was a first visit to this restaurant for my husband and adult daughter. The service was pleasant and fast. The environment was relaxing. They offer both chair seating and pillows. The food was very bland and we do not plan to return.

Relatively bland for Thai food. Service spotty and ill timed. I've had much better. Do yourself a favor and keep looking.

I was there for a quick lunch. The beef green curry was spicy like it should be, but also too salty. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. All good but nothing super exciting. Everything was correct priced. And the location so downtown Chicago is for sure an asset.

Very enjoyable meal reasonable prices and generous portions very busy always good sign of good food Excellent choices for gluten free options Highly recommend this restaurant staff very pleasant

I’ve been to Star for countless lunch appointments - likely around 40-50 times. The food is consistent, service is quick if not friendly, and the meals are generous and reasonably priced. I recommend Pad See-ew, Rama Chicken or Green Curry Beef.
Unexpectedly great
We really didn't know what to expect. Thought might be an overpriced touristy mediocre place. Wrong. The food is very good and they have great prices. Seating was comfortable and conversation friendly. I'd advise after ordering drinks- wait to order. Once you order the food is gonna be there really quickly. We wanted to finish or drinks first.
