If looking for a great NY Style Pizza in Houston, this is a great local family-owned place. Stay away from the chains...go here. Killer desserts too.

This place is a Local institution and we've never had a bad meal here. The food is always fresh and the whole wheat crust is the best!

Star does it right. They make a great pizza and have some really fun varieties. The location has a great laid back feel and their staff is always fun. Really enjoy this place and have never had anything I didn’t enjoy here. Make sure you try their pasta salad and starburst pizza.

Hidden away behind a Whataburger, Star Pizza serves up made to order 'za in all types of combinations. Next time I'm getting the deep dish!

We haven't been to Star Pizza in over 25 years but were in the area and decided to go once again (we usually eat pizza near our house not 20 miles away). Getting there at lunch on the weekend was a good choice. The service was prompt, the menu has abundant options and the whole wheat crust was delicious. We got the individual pizza, therefore ensuring that we each got what we liked and no one had to have something they did not enjoy on the pizza. The atmosphere is still industrial casual - it can probably get pretty loud at times and the restaurant is big enough for large groups and parties - like the birthday one in the side room. Good service, good pizza and a great choice if you're in the Washington street area.

Star pizza is a great pizza eatery. They have a great menu and great service. They are located just off I_59 off of Shepherd drive. They have adjacent parking. They have a nice outside porch which is very nice, I had the Canadian bacon, basil onion pizza Fantastic!

I've had pizza around the globe and dare I say this is the best pizza I've had. Subjective of course, but you can't go wrong. Dough is cooked well. Tastes great the next day!

I brought my 15 year old daughter, five friends and here 2 sisters here to celebrate her birthday and we loved it. There is a wide selection of pizzas, pasta and salads. The Chicken Alfredo pizza is to die for! Prices were more than reasonable--there were 8 of us and our check was less than $100 and we took 3 boxes of leftovers home. Wi-fi is spotty and our waiter, though friendly and well-intentioned, got our order mixed up but we will definitely be going back!

This place has always been my favorite pizza joints in Houston! Love the food selection and the service. Even the leftovers taste great. A must try for all pizza lovers!

This place is consistently regarded as one of the best pizza restaurants in Houston. Now returning again some five years after my first visit, I'm pleased to see that hasn't changed. It is clearly popular, and can get busy at certain times, although pleasantly, it wasn't too overwhelmed when I visited. In that curious period between Christmas and New Year, there were still families and kids present, which can add to the general commotion. Gavin our server was most helpful and efficient, guiding me through the menu which can be a little disorientating, with pizza available in pretty much every permutation and topping, as well as a wide choice of salads, pasta and sandwiches. There is a pretty comprehensive choice of beers as well - see the rather cheekily entitled 'liquid diet' menu. We started with salads and breadsticks, along with their famous homemade giant meatballs. My chicken caesar was perfectly good and the meatballs in marinara sauce were a revelation. My pizza choice was Joe's, described as sauteed spinach and fresh garlic, which was excellent. Others had the starburst (ground beef, Italian sausage, pepperoni, onions, mushrooms and green peppers) and a gluten-free option with chicken, mushrooms and broccoli. Pretty much anything goes, and the choice of gluten-free options is always very refreshing. With the final bill coming in at just under $95 for three, including drinks, prices are slightly on the premium side, but not extortionate and probably reflective of the quality of the fare. This place is not in a central location, but it is worth the trek. Highly recommended.

Pizza is fair. The best of it is the delivery service which works well despite taking around an hour to deliver the pizzas. It's a fair option.

I met my wife in Houston and Star Pizza was one of our favorite places, especially the Joe's pizza. We hadn't been in Houston together in over 15 years and decided to relive one of our favorite lunch spots and get a Joe's. It still lived up to our memory, which can be a difficult task. We look forward to taking our now adult children here to introduce them to long term quality food.

Everything is good. Salads, pizzas, drinks - great stuff. We have been to Star pizza several times, but this last time was with some family from out of town. One of the party has a gluten intolerance which normally makes finding something that all can enjoy tough.......not here. It was a homerun. They really enjoyed the gluten free pizza. We had the chicago deep dish Starburst pizza - made with Shiner bock wheat crust Will definitely be back

Star Pizza is truly a Houston icon! The pizzas are great and they have several unique pizza pies as well. Great service and delivery too!

Great food, very delicious! Waiter was attentive & patient with our grandchildren. Would go in off peak hours, very small place. Plus a lot of signage indicating not to leave items in cars-daytime may be better idea.

We just love the pizza's here! We were introduced to Star Pizza nine years ago and we continue to come back. We always order a few pies before we head back home to Louisiana The ingredients are fresh, but I think it's the cheese that makes the pizza great. The quality of their cheese is superb! I just wish I knew what brand they use. Bon Appétit!

There is nothing Chicago style about there pizza. Past that the pizza is great, crust is nothing special but the toppings are fresh and plenty to go around. Started with garlic bread. 6 large pieces with a side of marinara. Followed with Cesar salad which had a nice fresh garlic bite to it. Main dish was an all meat pizza with fresh jalapeños. Whole meal was great, good beer selections. Made for a good night.

Cool place with a laid back vibe. Small and old school feels like someone's house. The pizza is amazing. Best I have has in Houston so far. Focaccia pizza crust is really good not too thin not too thick. My wife and I love this place and the prices are very affordable.

We love coming Star Pizza. We love the intimate, but fun mood of the place. There is always a sports game on, lots of friendly conversation and a very helpful inviting staff. The food is the best! For starters the roasted garlic pods are out of this world! If you are tired of regular box pizza then make a trip here you will be pleasantly surprised and sure to be back.

The best whole wheat crust in Houston. Pink's needs to do this too. Very crowded but I see why. We always go back for the whole wheat New York style Marilyn pizza.

Seated quickly and waiter was there immediately to take drinks orders. And that was the last we saw of him on any kind of a timely basis. We watched 3 tables get up and leave while in their drinks stage. We then complained and finally got our drinks. Fresh squeezed lemonade "You know we don't do refills" was way too sweet. Waiter finally came back and took our dinner order as we watched 2 more tables leave without service. Eventually we changed our order to togo and paid at the cash register. When we got pizza home, all 3 of us, with 3 separate pizzas voted for Good, not Great. Restaurant was not overcrowded or in other noticeable distress, so I assume this was just a normal late Saturday afternoon.

Not just the pizza. I've loved everything I've eaten here. If I had the gas money to drive two hours round trip for some Star everyday, I would do it. Even after years of going here, I am amazed by how delicious and fresh the food is every single time. This will forever be the standard for perfect pizza. Only complaint? It's ruined all other pizza for me.

When our host mentioned pizza, we thought, Texas Pizza? Wow, this place was fun and the food was great. It really gets busy so take that into account. The food was worth it!

Love Star Pizza not only for the food but the people watching as well. Pizza is fantastic but they seem to under cook a bit for our taste. No problem, just ask them to make it well done and it comes out perfect. The patio is great in the spring and fall. Sometimes a bit of a wait but well worth it.

I travel to Houston quite a bit, and I'm always on the lookout for a decent pizza joint. I have found one-- unfortunately this is not it! The dough was kind of soggy and flavorless, the sauce was slightly sweet and watery. Not the worst I've had in H- Town (not known for pizza is an understatement). Probably a good atmosphere to bring a family- and kids might appreciate the pizza. In all fairness, my standards for pizza are pretty high.

A little far from the house in Sugar Land but always worth the drive. It is my wife's favorite so it is always good for me when I pull out the Star Pizza card. It has an eclectic crowd and pizza menu. The Starburst and Marilyn's are our favorite. If you like your crust a little crisp just ask them to cook it well done.

Superb!!! Great value for $$. Fresh ingredients. Super friendly staff. Do support your local businesses.

Takeout: Ordered a 14" wheat crust Starburst. GREAT. Fresh, good ratio cheese/sauce and toppings were uniformly scattered for a great pie. Ordered the Greek Salad too - FANTASTIC dressing (do you guys make that in-house?!?!) Wonderful, absolutely wonderful. Liked the addition of artichoke hearts too. Spoke to Kristin when I called in to order - very pleasant. Liked that she repeated the order back to me to confirm. Gal at the register was friendly and had a smile; VERY nice - and when I entered the restaurant, a waiter carrying out a pizza for someone on the patio, actually smiled, welcomed me, and held the door open for me. Great customer service from apparently HAPPY employees. Nice touch! :) Drove up from Meyerland to give you a try, based on the T.A. reviews. We will be back!

Out and about in The Heights area and wanted to find a good pizza place. TripAdvisor reviews said Star Pizza was the best rated in the area so we tried it. Meh! It was good but definitely not great pizza. Sat on the patio and it was nice and enjoyable. Service was good as well. Ordered the cheese bread, cheese pizza and the starburst pizza.

Star Pizza is unlike any other venue. The outdoor seating on a vintage porch sets the stage but there is also indoor pizza or option to order your favorite Italian items for takeout. You would be missing out though if you didn’t try their pizza which is their specialty. You also owe yourself a serving of garlic bread to start your meal....it is phenomenal with side of Marinara sauce!!

If you've ever attended a convention in Houston, you probably realize that the "downtown" area that surrounds the convention center doesn't exactly provide a ton of options for "dinner for one" take-out/delivery options in the evening. Star Pizza 2 will deliver to the Convention Center hotels, and the pizza was fantastic. Deep Dish "Starburst" pizza on white dough - the crust edges had an almost cracker quality, nice and crispy. It is deep dish, so you shouldn't expect a ultra crunchy bottom crust. But I will say it held up and the slices stayed intact using only a plastic fork for support coming out of the box. Toppings were fresh-tasting and distinct, veggies had a bit of crunch, etc. Sauce was very bright and flavorful. Definitely worth an order if you want to change it up from room service.

The Ben deep dish pizza is the best deep dish I've ever had!! Great customer service!! They have multiple locations so u have to try it!!

Ya there pizzas are large but the problem is it dose not taste good... Whatever version you try. I. Guess if you need something to fill u up. Come here lol

My husband and I met some friends here before leaving town and we were very impressed. He and I split the Starburst Pizza and a Cesar salad. The salad was fresh and crisp and the dressing tasted homemade. The pizza was amazing one of the best I have had. The service was fast and friendly! I definitely recommend ordering a side of the homemade ranch to dip your pizza in! Amazing!

The day before we ate at Star, we had eaten at a really poorly done Mexican buffet. Star was the complete opposite. A well-run buffet will have a constant stream of fresh, hot quality food, Star had that and more. First of all was the salad bar. It wasn't a 5 foot salad bar, but it was a step or two above 90% of pizza buffets. Good dressings, lots of different ingredients, and something more than the average iceberg lettuce plus salad bar, The pizza was excellent. I especially appreciated the green chile pizzas. My wife found a pizza we would never have otherwise ordered that she likes and she will order. Good buffets enable quality restaurants to showcase a wide variety of menu items. The end was almost best of all. The best dessert pizza I have ever eaten, tart apples with walnuts. It would be nice if the bufet could be placed in a less congested area, but no such place exists in the building. It doesn;t matter - the food is great and we will be back.

We met our friends at Star Pizza Saturday. We drove in from Katy, and it was well worth the drive. I have heard good things about Star Pizza, and it lived up to the hype. We ordered a medium Starburst pizza. The Starbust has ground beef, Italian sausage, pepperoni, onions, mushrooms and green pepper. It was very good. The pizza was plenty for 3 people, and we have a couple slices left for the next day. My wife started off with a Caesar salad. She thought was excellent. The service was quick, friendly and welcoming. Star Pizza and Barry's Pizza are some of the best pizza in Houston. We'll come back to Star Pizza

I like their pizza alot...first time visit and will definitely be back next time I am in Houston. ..chicago style chicken Alfredo on wheat crust ( recommended by my waitress )...was sooo good. ..I got 10" and had to take a box home for midnight snack. ..and I can eat alot of pizza...you will not be disappointed!

This is great pizza served in a cool, old house with an eclectic, fun staff. There are lots of options besides pizza (one of my favorites is the house salad -- the house Italian dressing is zesty and one of the best I have ever had), but we come here for the pizza. My family prefers the New York style. Really, it's a little thicker than traditional, New York style pizza (think "hand tossed" rather than "thin crust" and you will understand the spectrum I am using). The little kids like the basics, which are great, but my wife and the older kids always get the "Marilyn" (pepperoni, Canadian bacon and onion) and it's a wonderful combination. As for myself, I get the deep dish. I change the toppings, but I always go deep dish. Now, their deep dish is not really Chicago style as it is quite a bit thinner, but it is thicker than their New York style and has LOTS more of their excellent sauce, so this is the way to go. You are always offered the option of white or wheat dough. I hear the wheat is really good, but we have only had our pizza on white.

Star Pizza has been our favorite for 30 years, and Joe's pizza, with spinach and garlic is the best of the best. They still offer entertainment on the screen upstairs, they have expanded the beer offerings, but they've maintained the laid back atmosphere, and the best deep dish pizza south of Lou Malnati's.

Great pizza. Great salad. Great bread. Great pasta. Great atmosphere. Glad I stumbled onto this place. Kids really liked it.

What are we missing? We ordered a Joe's (spinach with roasted garlic), Starburst and a Margherita. I ordered the Margherita thin crust with extra baking because I like my crust extra crispy. Each one was served with a wet, soggy crust. My son tried folding his pieces to eat but they fell apart.

Very affordable lunch buffet. I was more than happy with the selections offered on the salad bar. Great laid-back spot for a diverse pizza lunch buffet.

I've had to be in Houston on a regular basis for the 1.5 years - and Im originally from the Northeast, aka Land Of Great Pizza. Star Pizza is the best that I've found in Texas .. and I've been searching for 33 years. (Austin, Houston, Port A areas) . The crust is fresh, the ingredients are fresh, it all comes together to be very tasty. Every time. I've been to 5 other well-rated places in Houston, and Star is the best. They have good beer on tap, the salads are great, the outside porch is great .... The staff is always friendly . The inside booths are a bit cramped but they do have lots of tables with room. The parking is better than most in the city. Lots of character in this place.

The friendly and efficient staff at this long-time staple of the South Shepherd restaurant scene is the best part of the dining experience. But based on our recent lunch experience, the food comes in at average. The Caesar salad was crisp and fresh, but dry with too little dressing. The marinara sauce with the spaghetti was abundant, slightly sweet but with not much spice or other flavor. Meatballs were also slightly bland. Lasagna was tasty, probably the best of our two main courses. Portions were generous, but a lunch special size and lower price would have been appreciated. We did not try the pizza buffet, or any pizza for that matter on this trip. Wine by the glass pour was about right for the price; beer selection included a number of local beers and beer specials vary by day, according to the beverage menu. The patio remains a favorite place to sit, but inside dining areas could use a little freshening.

The pizza choices were plenty and the taste was fantastic! They had all kinds of pizza on the buffet from roasted garlic, jalapeno, margherita, bbq and many more. The price is reasonable for Houston and the decor is art-z as well. Good choice for grat pizza!

We are pizza lovers, so when we found ourselves in Houston at MD Anderson and not feeling like going out, I spent a little time doing some online research for the best pizza near the Medical Center area who would deliver to our hotel. Star Pizza has been in business since the 70's. They have a wonderful selection of salads, pasta and pizza (hand tossed New York style or Chicago deep dish style crust), beer and wine. Their ingredients are fresh and the flavor is awesome! Go to their website for their menu. You can no longer order online for delivery to the Medical Center area, but a quick phone call will have your order delivered promptly! We are at MD Anderson for the second time and looked forward to calling Star Pizza again. When I did, they knew exactly what we had ordered the last time and asked if we wanted to repeat that order. You can't go wrong with this restaurant. We look forward to the day that we can visit the restaurant in person after we get my husband's miracle!!!

Ordered delivery from the Katy (new?) branch. Very fast delivery. Really good food. Re-ordering for my next pizza fix.

I have friends that love this place, both the food and the vibe, but I find the Pizza a bit soggy and consider the place a bit worn and the service simply okay. It is inexpensive and it is popular and you do get plenty of food but I can't say I have ever had what I consider a good Pizza at this popular Pizza restaurant.

I'm in Houston visiting and my family loves this pizza, but gave me this warning: you might throw it in the oven or a pan after it's delivered, because they're made to be eaten on site. I, of course, ignored that and thought 'maybe my family is crazy, because who delivers pizza that has to be cooked once it arrives?' Well, we ordered a half veggie and half 'starburst' pizza. The lady on the phone was very helpful and the delivery driver was cool. When we dug into the pizza...it was soggy. There would be no way to eat it in normal pizza fashion and we were reduced to forking them. I'd say the flavor wasn't there for us either. The veggies weren't seasoned or sauteed (that I could tell) and had a raw veggie flavor to them. Maybe it's a place that I've got to visit to unlock the goodness that everyone swears about, but I'd sure recommend against a delivered pizza.

I've been a loyal Star Pizza fan for years. Their pizza is awesome and the service is always great. Many people rave about their "Chicago style" pizza, but it is not authentic Chicago style. It is more of a "Chicago light" pizza...however, it still tastes great. They have a decent variety of local beers and some excellent desserts (made in-house) as well. If you love pizza and have never tried Star Pizza, you really owe it to yourself to check them out.

The servers were friendly. The meal was hot. But I like lasagna to have firm pasta with a thick sauce. Unfortunately, the dish was wimpy and runny. If you go, stick with the pizza. There's even a gluten-free pizza!!

Star Pizza is a favorite with most houstonians and for good reason. the cost for a large Chicago deep dish whole wheat pan pizza with all fresh toppings and an order of cheese garlic bread with dipping sauce is $26.00 and will feed 4 people each getting two large slices that will fill you up. no I do not work for them but eat here a lot. the only pizza that does not give me heartburn. it's that good. they do have delivery also but make sure your in their delivery area. two locations. greenway plaza area/river oaks and the heights locations. very family friendly atmosphere and handicap accessible. nice front porch outdoor dining with a/c and fans outside. you must have A/C when dining outside here in houston yall. if a restaurant does not have A/C on their patios then they ain't a houston original lol. yall enjoy this place.

My wife and I love Star Pizza. It is crowded, but the quality is amazing as is the beer selection. Be sure to try the baked goat cheese appetizer.

Stumbled across this place after finding Demeris closes at 8.30pm, maybe the gods were on our side because it was fab. Ordered Ben's New Yorker and loved it. Got the largest and could only finish off two pieces, but as we're traveling we got the rest to go for lunch tomorrow.

Cody Dorsett was the best host I’ve ever had during all my years of dining. He made me feel right at home and was attentive to his duties. He’s the goat

We had a nice dinner on the patio on Halloween night before the freaks came out. I had a couple of new beers I haven't tried before and the sampler which is always a nice treat. I liked the little glasses & wooden holder they came out in. My daughter ordered the pasta salad & really liked how they put lettuce under the pasta. She enjoyed it. Husband ordered a meatball sub and wasn't blown away. The bread was a bit chewy. We ordered a Ben's, Joe's and Chicken Alfredo. They all were tasty but the my family said I made better pizza. Sweet fam. I got huh? I actually thought that the spinach was canned but the manager came out & assured me that it is indeed fresh. I thought I had a taste for that since I eat spinach just about everyday. I don't know...regardless...it was a nice place to visit. I did get the idea about the pasta salad I'm gonna use next time I make it at home.

I had been to Star Pizza years ago for lunch and was always satisfied. I suggested it yesterday to a colleague and we went there for their lunch buffet. Wow! I had forgotten how good their pizzas were. The buffet is the way to go for lunch. The salad bar is small, but the dressings are home-made and packed full of flavor. As a vegetarian, I was worried about my pizza options, but boy did they deliver. Lots of pizza options on the buffet and each cooked to perfection. They are not stingy and you never have to wait for them to replenish any of the items. The pizzas just keep coming and thry are topped full of fresh ingredients and yummy cheese. Thry even have a dessert pizza that looked delicious, but I was stuffed. The atmosphere is cool and I wished I could have thrown back some brew, which they had plenty. The place gets packed for lunch, but the staff was on point with the service and friendliness.

I first went to Star Pizza on Norfolk almost forty years ago. It used to be a stellar pizza and Italian restaurant. After my last visit the first week in April on a trip back to Houston I hate to say it is falling on hard times. The pizza was a mass of lower price cheese and too much meat topping. More is not always better. In this case the taste was poor and the crust much too thick for a hand tossed.

Highly recommend, will definitely go again and again. We took family from Dallas, and they were very impressed. We got an extra large pepperoni, and it was just perfect. Waitress was very frinedly, and catered to the kids.

We ordered our pizza, but they would not deliver to our motel which was only three miles away. We drove to pick up pizza. Restaurant was very busy. Style very eclectic. Waited in line a few minutes for our order. Pizza was good. Lots of cheese with meat. Crust was good. Probably not the best pizza I have ever eaten, but good and would definitely order from here again when we return to Houston.

Star Pizza in the Houston Heights has been around forever. The city has grown around it-- a car wash on one side, a bridal shop on the other, and a supermarket across the street. But the food remains the same and very good. The interior has a vintage feel, with antique wooden tables (with new tops) and chairs. A dining area and a separate room for the sports fans. The pizza menu is extensive, but I opted for the meat lasagna with a side of vegetables (a side not on the menu, but they whipped it up special for me). My husband got his usual (at Italian restaurants): a large Caesar salad with sides of meatballs and sausage. Our server Chris was helpful and professional. He was the one who made sure I got the mixed vegetables I requested.

I have been a customer since the late 80's and this is still one of my favorite places. I always get the same thing. The starburst deep dish with whole wheat crust. Think of it like a 'supreme'. The sausage and pepperoni are hight quality. The green peppers and onions offer a flavorful crunch. The tomato sauce is fresh tasting. There is just the right amount of cheese to hold it all together. They have been doing the whole wheat crust since I have been a customer. It adds flavor, texture and a crunch. It is so good. I prefer it over the regular crust. The decor is funky but friendly. The staff are great.

I love Star pizza--the ingredients feel fresh, the New York and Chicago style crusts are both perfectly crusty and delicious, sauce is salty and flavorful, and prices are just right. You can eat here for about $8, and that, my friends, is a great taste to value ratio! Portions/slices are generous (great for sharing and cutting in half if you're in a group and want to share) and the "personal" 8" size was the perfect personal size for me (a spare, female eater). I'm less impressed with service here--when we asked our waiter about getting the Starburst personal pizza in a slice, he answered quite bluntly: "You can't do that." I don't fault him for telling us the truth, but his manner was brusque and I'm not sure he has the personality for conversing with customers. Also, our hostess was a bit inept at seating guests--she seated a young family so close to us, every time the family or waitress squeezed behind me, my chair was bumped. I really didn't understand why she would put these customers behind us in a tight corner when so many other tables were available. And finally, I might note that decor is quaint and residential--my tall boyfriend was rather uncomfortable as there is little legroom under the tables (they have a 4" lip running around the edge of the table top), so tall guests beware. All in all, pizza is stellar here--customer service is secondary, but I will definitely come back!

If you are wanting a simple layer back atmosphere for dinner this is the place to go. It is a bit of a struggle to get to the location and park but that’s common in most places in Houston. Their appetizers and Chicago style pizza were great. The service was pretty good as well.

The pizza is probably better when ordered individually. The slices I had were tasty, but the crust got dry and chewy very quickly. It is worth a visit for the old school menu and atmosphere. Service was prompt and attentive.

My family and I went here because of the good reviews I saw on TA. It didn't disappoint. The Salsa Verde pizza was amazing, our server recommended us to add bacon on it and it was delicious. The Starburst pizza was ok, we preferred the Salsa Verde. The BEST portion of our meal was the Greek Salad by far! Absolutely a must. The service was very good and the location perfect for a family with kids. Would definitely recommend.

I love the quirky dining room and artsy booths, but I enjoyed the weather and sat outside. Very good buffet, but the pizzas weren't as hot as expected. Not entirely impressed with their sauce, crust was sort of dry. I thought the buffet at their other location was better. Love the salad bar and the numerous fresh options. Really enjoyed the garlic-y blue cheese dressing! I enjoyed the many options in pizzas, and it wasn't too crowded at 1pm, so maybe that's why the pizza on the buffet looked a bit tired and not as fresh as I had hoped. There is a dessert pizza, that could be better. It was just apples, nuts and cinnamon on very thin crust, and in all, it was a very dry dessert pizza. Wishing they had pizza rolls on their buffet, but then I realized I was sort of channeling Double Daves, and that maybe I sort of like their buffet better. It's hard to tell. I'll have to try it again some time when I'm in the area.

The crust is flaky and delicious. The toppings are generous and homemade. Just as good as Chicago, N.O., NYC. After all these years, still at the top of their game. Love this joint.

Have tried all the other pizza places in Houston--Star is the best by far! Great laid back environment (especially upstairs), fantastic wait staff and very cold beer.

I've been eating at Star Pizza for about 12 years now. I've had one bad visit in that duration and it was during lunch, at the end of the lunch buffet window. I just chalked it up as a shortcoming of the buffet style part of the restaurant. When I've ordered off the menu, I've had great experiences there. The pizza has always been fresh and quite tasty. They have a good variety as well: Margherita pizza is amazing, the Starburst (mostly meat) is very good, and the Ben's (all meat) is fantastic!!!

Who would have thought Texas would house some of the best pizza I have ever had! Star Pizza is seriously the best. Typically I am a fan of a good thin NY style pizza but this place really has the best Chicago style pizza I have had and I have been to Chicago. Good cheese and good crust which is really what makes a pizza. The sauce also has a really good flavor. Be forewarned though it is always a packed house. Be prepared to wait and be a little cramped while eating, but it is well worth the wait!

Being first in has its perks!Pizza came out of the kitchen and I was on it and impressed. Wait staff and dude stocking the buffet were friendly and on spot

Star Pizza has been a Houston fixture for decades. We used to come here in the 80s. It seems a lot bigger now. They have a nice variety of Italian dishes, but pizza is the star. Very tasty food. They used to have a white pizza, I think it was called The Blond, and I was disappointed to see it off the menu.

Love the pesto and garganzola pizza! Nice to sit outside too. They have a pizza buffet but I like the personal size pizza and a salad.

Second time here and the pizza is very good. My friend thinks the deep dish Ben pizza is great. I had the Gorgonzola and pesto which was very yummy. Never had the pasta.

James is an excellent waiter. Very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and beer selection. Chicago Style starburst was outstanding!

A great place to go to, to pick up or to order from. This is a place for real, cheese-heavy, ingredients-full pizza. Definitely not for the weight-watchers or the gluten-free thin-crust afficionados. As a matter of fact, I would recommend skipping a meal prior to heading there. The spinach pizza is my favorite but you can't go wrong. Order the smallest and share: you'll have plenty for two!

Superb pizza , had the brisket pizza with BBQ sauce it was delicious cooked to perfection . Staff was superb , checking on how things were if we needed anything was very polite and attentive. One of the best pizzas I’ve had in Houston.

Growing up in Chicago, my taste for pizza is thick crusted memories of Geno's and Uno's. Well, I don't have to travel 1,800 miles for my weekly pizza fix. OK, every other week. Every time I am there for lunch I see dozens of folks lined up for the buffet, but I don't mind the wait for my small deep dish sausage delight. I savor the great crust and thick cheese as I remember the Windy City.

My favorite pizza buffet; get there at 1130am or so and they just keep on bringing out pizzas. Sometimes they do seem to be a little behind demand in the kitchen and you have to wait because there is no pizza and many people; but... its great when it comes out. FYI - they don't put pan pizza on the buffet; and their pan pizza is excellent, but takes a while to prepare. Star also has an excellent lemonade (it's seasonal and isn't included in the buffet price).

We were in the mood for deep dish pizza, and saw that Star Pizza had it, so we decided to visit. The restaurant is very casual, with murals and graffiti. We started with the baked goat cheese, which was really flavorful. We ordered a deep dish that was half Starburst (Supreme pizza) and half Ben's (meat toppings). It was really good . I agree with another reviewer that they don't use as much cheese as I remember Chicago deep dish pizzas having, but it was still very good and didn't leave us feeling overstuffed. They have wheat crust available, too, which we ordered and enjoyed. We would definitely visit again when we're in the area.

I was at Star Pizza with some friends and we ordered two deep dish pizzas. Pizzas were very good and the ingredients fresh and tasty

H-town institution with pies that rival those in Chicago. Fresh ingredients, real cheese and baked to perfection every time. Even the desserts are a step above. Cool vibe in an old renovated house in the Shepherd area. I wish we had a location in the north suburbs. Worth the 45 minute drive.

Good pizza, good value & good service. I really like that Star Pizza is a full service restaurant! Pizza has almost exclusively been designated as take-out food. Being able to sit down and have my pizza brought to the table is a refreshingly old school experience. I would definitely recommend!

Beautiful evening so waited about 15 min for an outdoor table....plus the inside is t all that nice and is usually loud. Table by the garbage cans...a bit of a smell when the breeze blew....as soon as we got our delicious pizza, the table two down from us all lit up cigarettes and the smoke came right to our table. The waiter then told me that the side four tables were for smoking. Wish we had known. Love the pizza but the smoke was awful.

Star pizza is amazing! This pizza place never fails. The pizza is always fresh, tasty and cheesy! The spinach w/ garlic (add extra cheese) pizza is one of my favorites. If you're a beer drinker you definitely have to try one of the craft beers or the beer flight which is a great option is well. If you're a Native Houstonian or just visiting this should be on your restaurant list, you won't be disappointed. Enjoy!

Ypou want fresh, local, Chicago style authentic and local pizza place? Then lkook no further. Star Pizza located in a cozy building with multi stry seating is an awesome dinner date, family or just to have a bite place to eat!

Took our grandkids and tho the service was good, the food was not. Vegetable pizza was terrible—no sauce, just smushed vegetables on crust. No cheese. Cheese pizza had way too much sauce and the kids couldn’t even hold it without the sauce and cheese sliding off the soggy crust. Even the Greek salad wasn’t good. Beef pizza was good—

It is always a bit disconcerting when in a new city to try a new restaurant, especially for food that can be either very good, or very bad. We make our own pizza in a pizza oven. Our home city is also home to a restaurant that has been described as having the best pizza in the United States. We were more than pleasantly surprised to find that the deep dish pizza, 'Chicago style', was as good as pizza that I have eaten at some of the more famous pizza establishments in Chicago. The price was right and there was not an excessively long time to wait for the deep dish. We ordered a medium deep dish that contains six pieces, just right for the three of us. Wine and beer is also available. You can purchase a number of appetizers, sandwiches as well as pasta dishes. It looked as if most of the patrons were getting pizza. We visited on a Saturday evening about 5:30 P.M. A table was available right away, but they filled up rather rapidly after that with families, couples and girl scouts! Parking is a bit tight. I am sure that there must have been a handicapped spot, but I did not see one. We look forward to going back for our second visit!

Can be a busy place. Decent parking for Houston. Very good pizza. Nice standard combinations or pick your own ingredients. Thick and thin crust are both good. Nice place for a small or large group.

I've come to this location multiple times. It's located in an old house, which adds to the ambiance. Their deep dish pies are wonderful. I love that you can choose up to 2 specialties on a pie. Their lunch buffet is a great value, and they don't skip on quality toppings. It does get busy, and I've seen a wait but it's worth it. Deep dish pies can take up to 30 minutes, so call ahead and have it piping hot when you arrive.

Very very good pizza, nice place and very good service, a very special place to chat with your family and friends

I've visited this restaurant twice since I've moved to Houston in November. It is a little difficult to find but the pizza is very good and the price is reasonable. My husband and I ordered Sausage & Pepperoni with a side of pizza sauce (the pizza sauce is very good).

The pizza was fantastic. Loved the Chicago deep dish style. Everything else was good to. Not the place to go if your wanted a more formal place. It definitely was not a dress up type place. Service was good too.

We were seated quickly and sat upstairs. Service was a little slow, but it was worth the wait for the awesome pizza. A large pizza feeds a family of four with left overs. Delicious!

Great Chicago style pizza! Great atmosphere, good service, friendly staff. No brainer for great pizza.

Close to Texas Children’s Hospital. I was admitted for aggressive monitoring for the three weeks leading up to my delivery and needed a quick and tasty option to satisfy a two-year-old, a four-year-old, and a hungry husband. We got the Starburst and a half and half cheese/pep. Was pleasantly surprised. Not too greasy and had great taste. Was easy to pick up and bring back to my hospital room.

Star Pizza was in business and delivering before anyone heard of Domino's. The whole wheat crust is my favorite and their salads are great too especially with the home-made dressings! Both locations have fun eclectic decor!

I used to eat at this place when I was in college 25 years ago. I came back to try it out after that many years and it is even better. We ordered the Chicago style pizza and garlic bread with cheese. We got there at 5:00 because this place fills up quick. When we left at 7:00 there was not an empty seat in the house. This is excellent pizza and we drove to Houston from Corpus the night before to eat here even though we could have driven up Sunday morning to attend our function. We chose to drive up Saturday night so we could have dinner here.

The pizza here is very good. Love the sauce. Order the Margherita for a bit of variety. The service here is what sends the rating over the top.

Star Pizza is the best pizza I have tasted in Houston. I truly recommend it to everyone. They have there unique pizzas, personally the Starburst is my favorite along with the Salsa Verde (add chicken to it). Experience has been great both times I been there. When it comes to the waiters both times they have been nothing short of perfect, very nice, always at your needs and very friendly.

Some how this is a very busy location but they still manage to seat you quickly and provide excellent customer service. The employees really show they love what they do they're energetic and get the job done. I tried Chicago style pizza for the first time ever here at Star Pizza. I live in San Antonio I have ordered Chicago style pizza after my visit to star pizza and no pizza joint here in SA has fulfilled my Chicago style pizza craving since. So I went to Houston and made sure Star pizza was on to do list. Pizza, Salad, and Drinks are all delicious paired with great service, this is a no brainer. The restaurant has a lot of character too!

We love them! Our favorite is Margherita in Chicago style with extra sauce and cheese, second place Portofino, try it with cheese and sauce, it's awesome; all others are good as everything they have. Their ingredients are the best, their cheese is just heaven. I give them only 4 stars due to the lack of cleanness on their bathrooms and second floor floors. We drive 54 miles just to eat here!

A friend of mine took me here and wow!! The pizza was fresh tasting and incredible. Lots of veggies and plenty of sauce. In no way is Star Pizza shy with their ingredients! I thought I've tasted great pizza but I was introduced to probably the best pizza ever. The servings are huge, the "dinner " salad could be a meal alone for some. I will definitely return soon!!

It's probably my favorite pizza spot. I love to go whenever I'm in the area. I think eating there is sooo much better than delivery.

Is my first time coming to this place, I don't really like pizza but I'm sure that I will keep coming here. Nice service, everything fresh, I love it

Drove 40 miles to come this place that I have recommended hundreds of times over the course of 30 yrs. I brought Albert Lee (guitarist with Eric Clapton, Emmylou Harris and many more)to this place many years ago. Pizza is usually pretty good. But they consistantly hire "tragically hip" wait staff that have no business dealing with the public. When I go to a place to eat, I dont want to have to tolerate attitude. I wont be back and I will recommend avoiding this dump.

Delicious pizza joint. Long wait for your food but that's because everything is done fresh. They actually have a sign on the table letting you know it will take a little longer.

Nothing fancy but certainly quirky with a lot of character. Patrons were locals and pizza was great! We left my daughter's sweater at the table and a staff member went out of his way to chase us down in the parking lot and get it to us...we were very grateful! Would definitely return!!!

Love to try different small business locally owned pizza restaurants when we travel. Found Star Pizza. They offer Chicago style and New York style pizza. We had a make your own Chicago style hand tossed pizza and we were not disappointed. The ingredients were fresh and not canned. Crust was cooked just the way we like it. Iever in the area

On a college visit, we almost drove to the 'burbs for a pizza, but ran across a review that recommended Star as a better option - and much closer to where we were. Couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised! The large, deep dish Ben's was excellent! Ambiance was cool in and old house. Highly recommended in Houston!

Order four pies for the office staff. Delivered promptly and hot. After that, it went downhill fast. Margarita had no basil and there was absolutely nothing on the pie that had any flavor at all. Vegetarian pizza was marginally better. Without the use of lots of crushed red pepper, there would have been nothing good to say about it. Even the crust had no flavor. Sorry to see their product has come to this.

When Dominos is better than a place you used to believe was the best Pizza in Houston? You just lost a decades long customer. Your Pizza is sucking! I

Star Pizza has been a traditionally good location for pizza for many years. Good location, great service and great pizzas at a very good price. Outdoor dining on the porch, indoor dining in several locations both downstairs and upstairs. Salads are crisp, cold and fresh.

Haven't had Star Pizza in quite some time, but man oh man is this the best pie in Houston by far. Whole wheat crust, fresh ingredients, and all veggie! Gotta try it. And they deliver too!

It was better when we got takeout, but when we got it in the restaurant it was not really as good but everyone is very nice!!

Being from Chicago, I found it extremely hard to find good pizza in Houston. After lowering my standards and finding dominos to be the beat pizza in town, I finally found Star pizza. Best pizza in town by far Star puts out a great pizza for a good deal.

My family and I love Star. Their staff is always helpful and their food is delicious. I wish they would run some specials as it is a bit pricey to be our go to pizza place on a regular basis. They have some great specialty pizzas and one of the best pizzas in Houston. Always a favorite.

This pizza place is definitely worth the time and money spent. I'm from New York and I know what good pizza tastes like. Star Pizza does it right with a crispy thinner crust, homemade sauce, and fresh toppings that are all baked to perfection. There are two reasons I can't give Star a perfect review. Firstly, they should upgrade their oven to either wood fired or brick. Secondly, when I brought in a milkshake from whataburger the staff told me I couldn't have it in their restaurant which really got under my skin (I had just bought pizza from their establishment). The customer is always right and if they wanna bring in a milkshake after buying pizza then that shouldn't be a problem. If you really don't want that to happen then expand your dessert menu. Overall and despite the milkshake incident, the food here was great and I would come back again.

We liked Star Pizza, so we thought we'd give it another try. It was good, but not as good as the first time. My wife noticed that, and I had the same impression. The Garlic Bread and cheese was excellent as an appetizer. The Starburst pizza good, but I didn't find it as great. The price is on the high end. For a medium pizza, garlic bread (and tip), you're looking at $25. Star Pizza does provide very good service.

In town to visit Rice University. Good pizza. Great variety of toppings. Good selection of beers. Would go back.

Been going here since 1982. The BEST pizza ever. Can't go wrong. Salads are the freshest- sandwiches are amazing.

Awesome pizza and craft beer on the patio. Doesn't get much better than that. Will definitely be back.

The pan pizza was too soggy and the other crust style (NY) was pretty thick. Chicken alfredo was yummy. Too much cheese, drowning out the taste of the other toppings. Staff were nice and ambience is casual. Good for family with kids.

We were taken here by a friend and it lived up to his billing. The pizza was great as evidenced by the fact that 3 of us finished a large. We were there on a Friday night and were glad we arrived when we did as they were quite busy, but still the service was good. If I return to Houston this is certainly one of the places I would eat at again.

Do yourself a favor and get yourself to Star Pizza in Houston, Texas. Your taste buds will thank you. Their dough is heavenly. I've had the New York style and it is great but the deep dish Chicago is my favorite. My husband and I drive from Cypress, Texas at least twice a month to have their deep dish "Ben's" (meat lovers style) Pizza with light sauce. I can make myself miserable by eating too much but it is totally worth it.

I'm not sure if the slack pace is normal for this restaurant or if perhaps people did not show up for their shift but it was painful to be there. The hostess looked and behaved like she hated her job and the waiter looked overwhelmed with tables. It took us over over an hour to get our food. The pizza was good but I'm not sure if it was worth the wait. Go for the wheat crust as it really give it a special crunch.

This restaurant comes highly recommended by the locals as the go-to place for the best pizza in Houston. Such recommendations should never be ignored. Even in that strange period between Christmas and New Year, this place is busy. The restaurant itself is very informal and somewhat rustic, and is housed in the original building that was opened by two guys from Chicago in 1976. It is spread over two levels, plus outdoor seating, and there is always a proliferation of customers waiting for their to-go orders. Parking can be an issue, as the parking lot is limited, and traffic around the building is chaotic - a testament to the popularity of the place. Now to the menu. The pizzas are available in both New York (hand tossed) Style and Chicago (Deep Dish) Style, in three sizes as well as in personal 8" size, either on a white or wholewheat base and everything has a gluten free option. There is also a 'build your own' option, so you can have your pizza any way you like it. I was rather intrigued by the Chicken Alfredo option, which is quite original and unusual. The chicken in Alfredo sauce also came with mozzarella, gorgonzola and provolone cheese, sauteed mushrooms and onions and chopped basil. Perfectly baked and delicious. Others in our party had the Starburst (ground beef, Italian sausage, pepperoni, onions, mushrooms, green peppers) and Portofino (olive oil base, olives, Feta cheese, artichoke hearts, roma tomatoes and basil). Significantly, this option comes with no pizza sauce The garlic bread with marinara sauce was also delicious (see pictures). I have no doubt that this restaurant probably has the best pizza in Houston, and it is refreshing to see such a wide range of options, all available in gluten-free, which is always a plus. Seriously good pizza, not overpriced. Worth investigating.

Have been eating at Star Pizza for over 35 years and it never fails to impress. The wheat crust is unlike anything I've ever tasted anywhere else. The sauce is good, and all the toppings are very fresh. The ambiance of the old building and the great service round out the experience.

I have been eating here since I was 7 years old. Real and traditional style pizza. Huge and super fresh toppings. Never soggy, never greasy. Cool atmosphere, everything you want in a pizza joint. I say it is the best pizza in Houston because it is the only place I will go, I don't even bother trying anything else, it's that good. I don't live in Houston so if I am driving through I will stop and get a pizza to go. After all, cold pizza for breakfast is the best thing ever!

both times i have eaten here it has been for the lunch buffet and both times they did not disappoint. the building is interesting with indoor and outdoor dining and unique art work. good music too.

Was in the area - so stopped for lunch. This is in a very rough section of town. It is a run-down restaurant. It was very busy. The waitress was very nice and efficient. The salad was good. The pizza crust tasted like cardboard. Sorry to say that, but it's the truth. Being from the northeast, I may just have higher expectations, but we really didn't eat much of it at all because it was so bad. The sauce and cheese were very sparse as well.

There's a reason Star Pizza is consistently a top rated pizza. Our first visit and we love a good pizza. Wait was faster than what was quoted, which is always a good start. The atmosphere was very cozy and relaxed. Ordered: Garlic Bread with cheese- The bread was the most perfect softness. I could have eaten all of them by myself. Starburst Pizza Chicago style- The medium was more than enough for the 2 of us. It was deep dish perfection. Both dishes we would recommend. I looked around a bit while we were there and everything looked good on everyone's tables. It's a bit loud, but it's a pizza place isn't it supposed to be that way? Read some bad reviews on service. Not sure if the restaurant has addressed the issue or what but our service could not have been better. Our First Visit won't be our last. That Spinach Garlic Pizza was on someones table right before we left out the door. The smell alone almost made me turn around for round 2. Hope you love it as much as we did.

It's a big state. I realize that. But this is the BEST pizza in Texas...possibly on the planet. I've tried them all, but my favorite is the Starburst deep dish, white crust, extra cheese. It will ruin your life (as in, you'll never want any other pizza).

I consider myself a pizza connoisseur. Star Pizza was recommended. We ordered a Chicago deep dish pizza to go (it was ready in 20 minutes). When we arrived, I also ordered a slice of hand-tossed (NY style) pizza to go. The girl at the counter said it would be another 15 minutes for the slice. So, we waited. $25 total. The pizza was average. The cheese has good flavor (good quality). However, it's not true NY style (especially when you have to wait 15 minutes for a slice). The crust is thicker and the slices are not large. Overall it's decent but don't drive out of your way.

Coming south from GRB by the Church of the Holy Basketball, we headed to the best deep dish pizza south of Chicago, next to 59Diner across from Whataburger and Stags Head Pub at the corner of Norfolk at Shepard, just a block N of Hwy59, aka StarPizza.com Pitchers of local brews like StArnolds and Buffalo Bayou 1836, an amber IPA, while munching on antipasto with greens reds sausage and anchovies, sprinkled with fresh ground Parmesan cheese and crushed red pepper, well paired with a Starburst pizza, plump with Italian meats, fresh herbs and vegetables. Two pitchers and pizzas later, we spent 30 min chatting after a luscious Italian crime cake dessert was served about the Great ambience grog grub and atmosphere that complimented the occasion, with the location. We ordered a third pizza to go and split it evenly between everyone. Nuke a slice for 45 seconds and sprinkle Parmesan cheese and crushed red peppers, for a tasty breakfast reminder of the night before.

Star Pizza refused to deliver a pizza to me because I had a phone number they didn't recognise. I'm a UK tourist enjoying Texas, and i wanted a delicious pizza at the end of a long day. I've had no problem ordering deliveries in Atlanta or calling Uber drivers. I'm sure the pizza is lovely if you can get it, but not impressed with the customer service.

This place is a gem, i hope they keep up the quality of their pizza. We had a Chicago Style Deep Dish pizza and a New York Hand-tossed pizza. Both were excellent, great flavor, not greasy and not muddled with cheese. Will definitely go back.

The Pizza here is Great! Cooked to perfection and the ingredients are fresh and the cheese is real! The service was good. My only downfall to this place is its dated! They could use a little jazz up. the tables are kind of small and the chairs are huge. 2 chairs next to each other and you are smashed together. Other than the dated decor the place is really good!! I cant wait to try something besides the pizza like...lasagna

Star pizza is a little hole in the wall place that has the best pizza. We haven't had one bad thing here....it's all excellent. The only negative, you will overload on carbs.

Went there to visit and have pizza.. Pizza was good once delivered to our table.. Manger,, someone name quin.... never came to our table.. we had a group of 8.. never saw him..asked waitress as we had a small complaint.. our server was ok.. pizza was great.. but lack of service.. may not return.. we were guests of people living in clearlake.. not worth the drive.. had heard about great service .. the couple who paid for the bill asked to speak to manager and he never came..

This is seriously the best pizza I've ever had! I've driven 20+ miles for their pizzas alone. The salsa Verde pizza is incredible. A must have!

We're local, coming here for years, nowadays with kids, a frequent part of any museum-district outing. Wonderful quaint, funky-hippie atmosphere, comfortable outdoor patio seating available. Upstairs seating for large parties. Craft beers on tap. Savory unique deep-dish pizzas with fresh vegetables (or regular crust if you want). If you love vegetables but want some meat, order the veggie and add the meat. Love the chelsea salad and the house dressing. Sandwiches available, like portabello. Expect to wait on the kitchen, but weekdays at lunch a buffet always ready. Parking is tight.

Came here on business, and the food was great! The staff was very polite and friendly, and our food arrived hot. I'm looking forward to going back to Star Pizza on my return to Houston.

Star serves deep dish and thin crust so if you like CHicago AND NY style this is your spot. The party room accommodated our 20 nicely and the pool table and sound system all were great additions. A$100 deposit is applied to the meal if no damages. Parking is fine. They made fine Greek salads too. Nice location at 59/ Shepherd.

Very good pizza this place offers. Beware, their sizes are really big. You are sure to be full when you leave. A bit rugged feel to the place.

I been going there for years. I love the deep dish or the New York style. Try the salsa verde that's really good unless you hate garlic. This place has the best pizza in Houston .

It started with the host in an apron greeting me and then turning to take me to a table. The waistband of his nylon running shorts were 3 inches below his butt cheeks. What I soon realized is that the restaurant was several degrees cooler than outside and the A/C was pumping out more cold air. Outside was 68F. The Chicago Deep Dish Ben's pizza I ordered with extra olives and diced tomatoes arrived. There was not enough cheese on it to hold the ingredients together which forced it to be eaten like a salad, Also, there was less than 2 or 3 spoonfuls of tomato sauce. I showed it to the Mgr, and his comment was "It looks standard". I thought it looked pathetic and the taste didn't do well either. I lived several years just outside of Chicago. This is NOT a Chicago style pizza.

My daughter and I went during the lunch buffet and really enjoyed it. The booths were painted very cute and the food was excellent. We tried pizzas that we normally wouldn't because everything looked so good. The salad bar was small, but had everything that you could want on it. The ranch dressing was delicious. We would definitely recommend going here.

Have never had a bad experience here. I love the lunch buffet! Very fresh pizza and super fresh salad bar. Best $10 lunch in Houston.

We ordered pizza from here because my cousins said it was the "best pizza" in Houston. Since they are both northerners, I figured they knew what they were talking about. Not to be disappointed! We had sausage and green peppers on one pizza and mushrooms and olives on a second one. Both were gobbled up quickly by five individuals....so I guess you can say that it was good pizza! Tasted Ike pizza we would get in New York! As this was the only time we had pizza during our trip to Houston, we have nothing to compare it with. But I can say that it was delicious!

Love this mom and pop and its humble beginnings. Really cool building and atmosphere. The Marilyn is my favorite. The veggie is great too, they don't skimp on it.

I ordered a pizza, cheese bread, and a salad. Enjoyed them all. Delivery was quick and the food was warm. No complaints at all. It’d get it again.

I measure the quality of deep dish pizza by the standards set in Chicago and thin crust in New York, for better or worse. On this basis, Star delivers a quality deep dish crust--relatively dense and chewy; above average sauce that adds just the right amount of flavor per bite; average toppings--a little too heavy on the onions and overbearing with the garlic; and sub-standard on the cheese--buried by other ingredients. The thin crust is average. Salads and sandwiches have been disappointing I freshness and imagination. I only order the deep dish now. It may be heresy for some, but the whole wheat pizza crust is one of the very few I've ever had that actually tasted very good. I order it regularly with my deep dish Starburst pizza. When ordering take-out, be sure to ask them to place a piece of tin foil under the pizza or it will soak the box with sauce or grease.

Best pizza in Houston. Great customer service. Great beer and wine. Bread sticks are awesome. Managers are great

There are two Star Pizza Restaurants in Houston, Star 1 (the original) and Star 2. My wife and I were drawn to Star 1 this evening with the promise of authentic Chicago deep dish pizza. While we’ve had much deeper pizza in a number of Chicago pizzerias, our Star pizza was very good, piping hot, fresh ingredients, chunky bits of tomato, and a hearty and tasty crust. The Caesar salad was also very good, fresh romaine, tasty dressing, and buttery and slightly spicy croutons. The service was prompt, friendly and very casual. The dining rooms are a series of rooms and the porch of an old home, complete with wooden floors. I suspect that the hurricanes make it difficult to maintain such a structure, and it is fairly well maintained. However, there’s a lot that could be done to make the dining areas more interesting, more comfortable and welcoming. All in all, this is a very good place to enjoy a meal, especially one including some semi-Chicago deep dish pie.

The title says it all. I ordered a Chicago style pizza. I’m from Chicago and knew it probably wouldn’t be anywhere as good. But I never figured it would as awful as it was. My pizza was totally undercooked. It was cold n the center. The sauce has absolutely no flavor. The crust was like the cardboard box that I threw it away in. These people need to actually take a trip to Chicago and get some tips on how to cool a Chicago style pizza. Do not waste your time or your money going here. You’d be better off going to dominoes.

I went yesterday and it was fantastic!!! We got the Chicago deep dish margarita pizza and man was it good. The pizza came topped with plenty of ingredients, the basil was SO fresh, it tasted like they just picked it from a plant they grew outside. And with a side of the best marinara sauce I've had in Houston, it was the perfect pizza.

Went for lunch on a weekend. Great service. Good beer selection. Pizza was good. Meatball sandwich with pasta salad was great !!!!

Amazing Pizza!! Will most certainly go back when I visit Houston again! Delicious to say the least! Must try the Margarita deep dish pizza

Hi. Hello. It's Me. The Pizza Queen. I am delighted to tell you that. . I am satisfied. I recently stopped eating pizza for my weight loss journey and I haven't eaten pizza since August 5. Today. . is November 16. It's been a long. . time coming. A week ago, I asked my Houston Yelp friends (I'm from Virginia) about where to get the best pizza. A lot of people recommended this place and another. After looking at options, I picked Star. When you pull up to the parking lot on Norfolk (a city in Virginia by the way), you see a big sign with a pizza star lol. So cool. You also see signs that tell you to lock your vehicles and hide your belongings. I mean, typical. You walk in and you see where the hostess would be. There is a sign that tells you to wait to be seated because she might be helping someone else. The hostess came within 10 seconds of us being there. We then got to pick our own booth which is nice. All the booths had different pizza paintings, my type of paaaarty. Our waiter Luis was amazing. From the start he made us feel welcomed. It was our first time and he told us, "well this is REAL pizza". He sold us on different items on the menu such as a great appetizer starter. We ended up getting Baked Goat Cheese ($7.50). This was baked goat cheese served with olive oil, sun dried tomatoes, and french bread. What sold us on getting it was the fact that he said. . we could put it on our pizza. Now, if you haven't tried goat cheese on your pizza, you're not living right. The goat cheese was very good. I had to try not to eat it all and save some for my pizza of course. For my friends appetizer, she ended up getting a small super green salad ($4.25). That consisted of kale, spinach, arugula, carrots, red onions, avocado, orange slices, craisins, walnuts, and feta cheese. She said it was a great mix of flavors. *rubs hands together* NOW FOR THE IMPORTANT PART: Heeeey Pizza. My boyfriend and I ended up splitting a medium (14 inch). Half of it was Ben's (ground beef, italian sausage, pepperoni, and ham) and the other half was chicken Alfredo (alfredo sauce, chicken, gorgonzola, mozzarella, mushrooms, onions, fresh basil, and their house mix of mozzarella and provolone. A 14 inch pizza is $15 and worth every inch. The half and half is always a good idea if you don't know what to get. Luis offered us dessert however, we were stuffed from the awesome food. From our table we could see the window that had all the dessert and well, next time we will get some. I feel like my experience here helped welcome me back to the Pizza life. . I mean. . I never left, but you know what I mean. I shall be back, Love. . the Pizza Queen.

For over 20 years we have been going to Star Pizza. Always a great trip whether we go alone or with friends and family. The staff are offbeat but friendly and the pizza is the best I've ever had - anywhere!

Regular customer while my kids were growing up. Ordered Hank deep dish and Ben deep dish. Deep dish pizzas were just normal crusts molded into a deep dish pan, crust was never more than 1/4 inch thick, making it soggy. Heaped with canned crushed tomatoes which overpowered everything else. Don't get the reviews, living on past rep, terrible. Won't be back.

I have been here because this is my brother-in-law's favorite pizza restaurant. I returned since a former Chicago resident referred me to this restaurant, telling me their Chicago style pizza is great. We got the Starburst (I think that is the name), the one with several meats and mushrooms. It is a terrific meat pie and is delicious!
Best pizza ever !
Whether you live in Houston or just visiting, you should try star pizza to get the real taste of pizza . freshly made with all fresh ingredients, makes an authentic experience you never had before. Must try star burst for meat lovers and salsa verde for veggi lovers !
