Great results and felt very safe eating at Starbelly. Great first restaurant to enjoy after a year plus of me staying away from dining at restaurants. The cocktails as always were great and the salad with fried chicken was perfect.

Star belly is a wonderful place for brunch, lunch and dinner. It’s a busy place with a friendly atmosphere with good food. The pizza bacon is to die for.you can enjoy a selection of local drinks or wines or brewed beer.

This was our favourite meal in SF, and reasonably priced as well. The pate and the little fritters were to die for! I've deducted 1 point because the service was not great - we sat there for 10 minutes with no attention at all, but to his credit the manager did realise and apologised and sent over a complimentary serve of fries. I think there was some miscommunication because our server seemed kind of distracted but was apologetic. The food made up for it though.

This is the type of restaurant where you wouldn't even think of going back. Food is mediocre and overpriced. Although staff is friendly and attentive, it didn't quite offset the quality and value for food.

We had lunch twice at Starbelly. The atmosphere was friendly and laid back. Their sheltered and heated outside deck was very pleasant on those two raining days. Their spaghetti with bacon are excellent. The wine selection is also worth trying. The waiting staff were very friendly and helpful. The prices are moderate. A good address for lunch. I would go back for sure and I warmly recommend this place!

great patio, good food, great energy the food was tasty and the outdoor patio in the back was a great place to sit with friends and share a meal

Wonderful location and great food we really had a great time! We choose the pizzas and we were not disappointed at all! Fresh products and delicious ingredients along with tasty wine, just perfect!

Great place to go for a relaxed and superb dinner. The service was excellent and the choice of wines was very good.

This place gets really busy at the weekends so it is worth booking ahead to make a reservation. The food is delicious. We ate here for both brunch (try the Mexican inspired breakfast) and dinner. The pizzas are great to share.

Got off to a bad start when they guy at the bar wasn't sure if they could spare me one of many empty tables by the door. Thankfully the waitress was more professional. Food was ok - highly flavoured pasta with chunks of bacon - nothing special. Nice glass of wine though - place is noisy young and trendy so was glad to be out of the main room.

Restaurant with good vibes and with a well trained staff. Ryan brought his "A" game to work that night and was a great help to my friends and I. We ordered a couple of burgers.. Note you will be paying 20 $ a burger with all the fixings, but they were good! My only disappointment though I couldn't get a protein like grilled chicken added to my StarBelly salad.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in The Castro. I’ve been here many times and have always had great tasting meals. My go to dish is spaghetti with basil and jalapeños, yum! Late lunch or early dinners are wonderful since the restaurant is not as busy.

One of my all time "go to" places in the city for consistently good food, decent service and the prices won't break your bank. LOVE the patio space, though it can get rather loud. So far I've introduced 5 friends to Starbelly, and now it's on their list. My fave food there is the Pizza. Especially the bacon, jalapeño, arugula & green goddess dressing pizza. It is pretty spicy though, just warning all. I tried the mixed chicories & arugula, pear, dates, smoked almonds & blue cheese salad. Nice presentation, ample portion. Could have used a wee bit more dressing. I also tried the Bibb lettuce, green goddess dressing, grilled chicken, bacon & cherry tomatoes salad. First time it was FAB. Second time, I don't know, the ingredients were pretty skimpy (IMP)! I did not find the non alcoholic beverages to be that tasty. The description's sounded better than they really were. None had much "punch or unique taste". All in all a good place to dine alone or with friends.

The menu here was fantastic but the flavors were not much to speak of. Kind of flashy and fun but not a memorable dining experience. A great place for a snack and drinks though.

We had to dine in a pinch and this eclectic place suited our purposes perfectly. We only had entrees. I had a veggie burger that was dry put tasty although I have never had a veggie burger that wasn't. My wife had a margarita pizza that she enjoyed and my daughter had a shaved Brussel sprout pizza that sounded strange but actually was delicious. Service was friendly and efficient.

We had a wonderful meal at Starbelly. The space is well designed and the menu is interesting and original. We had a great selection of starters, including crispy, tasty pea fritters. For mains, we had steak (perfectly done and wonderfully tender), a burger (gold standard) and a great tuna dish. The service was outstanding, yet somehow, it managed to be even better than that. When we left the restaurant, we somehow managed to leave a package at the table. After we'd crossed Market Street, I heard someone yell my name (yes, we ended up on a first-name basis). When the light turned green, our lovely waitress ran across Market, and handed me my package, breathing a sign of relief and cheekily wagging her finger at me. Don't miss this place!!

After a long drive to our vacation rental in the Mission District, it was great to walk to this delightful local restaurant. Food choices were unique, well presented and served by a friendly wait staff. Good wine selection too.

Great little restaurant near The Castro, so, as you might expect from the location, popular among the gay scene too. I would recommend you reserve a table if you plan on attending. We thought we'd be ok on a weeknight but we had a pretty long wait for a table, tempered a little by the complimentary food we received for our wait. The food was great. A lot of relatively simple plates fancied up but without becoming too fussy. The service was good and the atmosphere within the restaurant was great. The only real let down for us was the long wait but that's easily avoided by reserving a table.

Enjoyed the delicious veggie burger, the glass of wine and the service at this quaint little restaurant. It was great to get a feel of the local vibe and eclectic crowd.

Located in the Castro neighborhood. Food was unique, fresh, tasty. Had some great spices and additions to each entrée. Pork sugo, corn meal gnoccho, kale & burrata di Stefano was wonderful. They hold back 50% of seats for walk-in which worked great for us. Service was friendly and attentive.

Lunch again today, well really brunch at 11:00 on Saturday. Chicken and Waffles with a bit of maple syrup, and the only incarnation of this dish I would repeat. I love fried chicken and other places to be frank have sucked. However the fried eggs and homemade bacon, caesar or Starbelly salad, Italian eggs, and maple bacon donut, which I have previously devoured, are all worth repeating. Service is always cool and efficient. I prefer the patio, but if it is early morning or has rained within the past 24 hours, and you are seated on one of the benches along the edge, wipe you napkin along the edge and just under the edge of the table to catch any drips of water that may linger.

I love Starbelly, never disappoint. My favorite dish? Arugula and Jalapeño pizza. The staff is always super friendly.

So if you are staying the Castro and you are already over your food served with Fries then Starbelly is for you. It's American Italian, not authentic Italian but it's delicious none the less. HINT: Try and get a table out on the patio when you book, and do as it gets busy.

I came here on a bright sunny Saturday with my parents when they were in town. You can recognize Starbelly from far away since there is usually a long line of people waiting in front of the restaurant. Starbelly has a very special, savor and healthy pizza which I have never tried anywhere before. Even if you're not a fan of the heavy, overwhelmingly cheesy pizza, you will still be in love the pizza here since it comes with fresh spinach which balances out the taste. Most of the egg plates are good and really worth to try. I'm a big fan of donut and in love with the bacon donut here. Also Starbelly has varied types of beer, and if you're visiting SF, you should check out some local brands. The staffs are we'll trained and pretty helpful in giving advices on the food too. The restaurant has a modern and warm design with some famous quotes about SAN Francisco. There's also a patio inside the restaurant which has some very nice outdoor seats. However, the place is really packed, uncomfortable seats and really loud that you can hardly have a conversation.

From the outside starbelly looks like the sort of restaurant that doesnt want to get noticed at a party. Theres this wooden sign above what seems like a unremarkable place. Step inside and its like being in a different world, starbelly opens up to be a much grander space than expected and filled with flocks of hipsters. There are reminders everywhere that this is an authentic foodie heaven. The food arrived quickly, and was a taste sensation. We loved it

We tried two different pizzas and the hamburger, which was called exceptional by my husband. The Margarita pizza and the Market Mushroom with gruyere and roasted onions were both delicious and large enough to take some home. The thin and crispy crusts were super, and the grilled brussell sprouts with bacon and balsamic were so good we had to order a second dish to share among the three of us. The wine I ordered was obviously out of any old bottle, and I asked to have it replaced with a different wine, which the waitress did without blinking. She and one of the cooks who came by to ask how everything was, were friendly and professional, and both mentioned they have been at Starbelly since it opened six years ago--an eternity in the restaurant business. We really enjoyed our brief experience there and will definitely go back.

We had lunch here. On a nice September day, we sat on the patio. There an awning covering which keeps the sun off but the light and air in. We shared a mushroom pizza and had gazpacho and Ceasar salad. Excellent food, excellent service.

Very friendly fun staff at this restaurant. We had several delicious items: spaghetti with chunks of tomato, jalapeños and Starbelly bacon: salad of grilled tiny romaine heads: summer corn soup. All good!! Very enjoyable atmosphere - I highly recommend Starbelly.

Love this restaurant. We took a group of around 50 journalists there as part of a work trip we were doing from Europe to San Francisco. It's in a cool neighbourhood and looks very unassuming form the outside. Inside it's relaxed, welcoming and food is delicious. We had the terrace out the back reserved for us - it was under cover and had heaters so no issue at all with warmth. In face the heaters were too warm to begin with! We had a set menu that just kept on coming. Can highly recommend the lavender lemonade as a refreshing drink. Food wise I loved the grilled bread with onions, Thyme and mushrooms - could eat it all day! We had a group from all over Europe and everyone loved both the atmosphere and the food.

Nice restaurant with a industrial decoration Employees are really lovely and care for their customers All food was really good Only the drinks were a bit small Recommended !

Was on my own after a yoga class in the Castro and had heard good things about Starbelly. I grabbed a spot at the bar a little before 6:00 and the place was pretty quiet. By the time I left, it was rocking. I experienced great and attentive service at the bar. I started with the heirloom tomato salad, which was delicious. My meal was the homemade spaghetti with starbelly bacon and jalapenos. The pasta was definitely fresh, as was the sauce. I would happily return.

Visited here for brunch on our recent trip to San Francisco. Their chicken waffles are to die for!! And very nicely washed down with some mimosas. The terrace to the rear is lovely as well. We enjoyed our brunch so much we returned for dinner the same day! Evening meal was equally as delicious. Can’t wait to come back to San Francisco just to visit this wonderful restaurant!

We had a free night and wanted a nice dinner near the Casto Theatre. Starbelly was a letdown - too noisy to hear yourself think, inattentive waitstaff (that kind of experience where it's like they don't know what is supposed to happen in a restaurant), and food that was just okay. I felt ignored and, when the check came, ripped off. Can't recommend.

I love Starbelly. They always have fabulous cocktails and excellent food. There is a backyard that is great for sitting on a sunny day.

We went here on the recommendation of a friend and a good recommendation it was! We sat in the outdoor area at the back which was well heated, chilled and relaxed. I had one of the lovely cocktails on offer. When it came to ordering I asked the waiter what he might suggest and was surprised that he recommended a corn pizza. I thought I’d go with it despite usually being a meat eater. Our starters came and then our mains (pizzas) came almost immediately which we had forgotten about (we should have asked them not to do this). I understood why he had recommended the pizza it was delicious. It was a lovely meal and would thoroughly recommend.

My partner and I regularly go to Starbelly, either as a couple or with friends. What we like is the creativity of the seasonal menus and the fact they are reasonably priced for San Francisco. The atmosphere is nice. The service could be improved, though. We will keep coming and recommend the place!

Enjoyed the pizzas and thought some of the starters were really fantastic. The back courtyard setting is cute, although a little noisy when full.

I've dined at Starbelly over the several years it has been open and they tweak the menu slightly often to keep up with the times. Food is always good and I haven't had a bad meal here. The decor, especially the half outdoor patio dining area is great even in the unpredictable weather SF has. The one downside is that many other restaurants in the area and in the bay area have similar decor and menu so it fails to stand out in my list of places to go. The location is fantastic.

The food is always fresh and everything is delicious. The staff is really friendly and always have a smile when they greet you. This is a dedicated lunch spot for me as not most places are usually only open for dinner. They owner has other restaurants in the city under different names but all have top quality food and service.

We came here with a large group and reserved the entire back room. The dinner was preordered with several courses that included both meat and vegetarian choices. The service was fantastic and the food was amazingly good.

It's not always necessary to go for elaborate & strange recepies. Not when available fresh vegs & fruit and truly high quality meat. Feeling all the ingredients, appreciating each of them, being surrounded by smiling professional staff, it's what I call a great meal. Molto bene, meglio di ham holy burger o altri organic burger vari. Provare!

The food in this place is amazing. I really recommend the Tuna. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere, with perfect lighting and decoration. A must if you are dining out in San Francisco.

Went here a few times on our visit to SF and loved it. was introduced by a friend to Starbelly for a Sunday brunch and ended up coming a back a few times in the week. Nice coffee, good food with very good service, and a surprising large space once in the venue and I hope this place has survived COVID as this is a local café/restaurant Id love to have in Sydney and will be back to when we visit SF again.

GF and I went on a dinner date and we picked this restaurant specifically bec of the menu - she loves liver pâté / mousse and oven fire pizzas. Also, it is in the Castro district and it’s Pride month so we had to support it during this trip to San Francisco. Drink menu is good. Fun cocktails that can be ordered to go. Pizza excellent and there’s a choice to substitute mozzarella with burrata. Prices also fair for SF. Wouldn’t break the bank. The music is very fun/ dancy. I would recommend this place and will definitely go back.

Very cozy restaurant... The food was really great, i had a chicken liver pate with caramelize onions and mustard (excellent) and then i had the chilaquiles. My girlfriend order a pizza (chorizo and eggs) very nice. A friend order a burger and the other "mocoloco" or something like that (incredible) I recommended this restaurant if you are in Castro

Starbelly is like Dr. Who's TARDIS - it is much bigger inside than the small front entrance from the outside. It is a lively place and can occasionally get very loud from the younger crowd (they laugh and talk so loud at times), but fortunately people of all ages and backgrounds come here - a nice slide of diversity and tastes quite representative of San Francisco. First and most importantly, the staff are friendly, kind, and affable. Some of them are nice and sweet! The food offerings are appealing and delicious; for example, (1) crispy brussels sprouts, bacon & honey balsamic is a scrumptious small dish, (2) house-made pizza with chorizo, sunny eggs & cilantro is spicy and delectable - large enough for 2 to share while (3) house-made butternut squash dumplings, sage, brown butter, lemon & shaved grana is very good and butterly rich but its portion is smaller than small. We truly enjoyed these three dishes and drinks (an IPA and the refreshing lavender lemonade) on a Wednesday night that we returned on Sunday for the happy hour menu - a great deal for those on a budget. Sunday around 3:30 pm, things got quieter after the young & noisy crowd finished their brunch and one can feast on the happy hour menu. We happily sampled the $5 house cut fries with three dips, $8 patio punch, and the house-made chorizo pizza again (same $16 price as that of the dinner menu) though we were tempted by the $20 burger, fries, and happy hour cocktail, which look ample and terrific from the next table. We'll return for this deal next time we expats visit San Francisco. The patient, kind, and cool staff and tasty food are the stars of Starbelly.

The Loco Moco is heavenly, but then there’s not a clinker on the menu. The burger is great, any pizza is delicious, and the beer and wine list is a winner. And they’re getting a full bar soon. Perfect!

We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary at the Starbelly - and everything was perfect! The party was seated in the outside patio with the gasheaters making it warm and comfortable for our guests. Service was impeccable - thanks to Sophia and Lauren who took great care of us. Being from Denmark, as a gay couple, celebrating your anniversary in San Francisco meant a great deal to us - and the Starbelly made that event so joyful and brilliant. The food was delicious, the wine was local (californian) and the black label champagne was refreshing. All of our guests will never forget this evening, thanks to all of the above mentioned.

Wow. Can't say enough good things about this establishment. Staff go above and beyond with service and friendliness. Food is amazing. We went back 2 days in a row and were only in the city for 3 days! That is how good it is. * I do wish their wine by the gl $ were a tad lower, but that seems to be SF all over. Thanks for the great memories, staff at Starbelly!

My second time in this restaurant, I remember the first time being a good food experience but this time it wasn't the case. I loved the restaurant and atmosphere. The staff were friendly too but the veggie burger was frazzled and dried out and the side salad was covered in some sort of sour vinegar dressing. Tasted of acid! My partners burger was dripping with blood (asked for medium to well done) and the burger bap was soaked with blood so much he couldn't pick it up to eat it. Wine was nice. Staff were busy as we left but a "thankyou" or "goodbye" would have been nice. Won't be returning.

Wonderful food, not over complicated, real tasty and executed well. The Painted Ladies cocktail was a real taste delight for me, made even more special by the fact the bartender who mixed the drink was also the inventor of the cocktail. The chorizo mussels were special also as it was a family recipe from the sous-chef.

On a recent visit to San Francisco a friend recommended we try this place. Food and service was very good, a great place to people watch. Would definitely recommend the burgers and pizza.

Visited with friends for dinner recently and had a good meal. Started with the calamari salad, which was good, but the vinaigrette was a tad acidic. The chorizo pizza for main was almost fantastic, but the sunny side up eggs were too undercooked, resulting in the raw whites leaving a ‘snotty’ mess over the pizza and on the plate. Beer was good and service was excellent, as was the ambience in the back of the restaurant.

Wanted to review this place as well, it's always a good experience and has been a go-to for me during both stints of living in San Francisco. Definitely a local place to have an easy good meal for brunch on weekends, as well as lunch and dinner during the week. Lots of healthy options as well (the salads are great!). Definitely recommend.

The place has a wonderful ambiance. The wait staff are very dedicated and very good. The food is a little pricey but the menu is very diverse. I may have to go back and try the things I didn't order!!! The food is pretty good. I had the chilaquiles and they were an interesting interpretation. I liked them but I could see how my gastronomically handicapped friends might have issues. The salad that came with them was wonderful. My companion went for eggs and bacon and was very happy.

Starbelly opened about 9 years ago with a mission to provide well executed Californian cuisine at a reasonable price; something its founder, Adriano Paganini, is well known for. You should check out his Hayes Valley walk-in only a Mano that follows the same mantra. The food is good though the descriptions are more enticing than the delivered product. Regardless, I found it enjoyable and the price was easily 2 to 6 USD less than I would have paid for each comparable dish elsewhere. That includes the wine which, while not exotically diverse, is sufficiently fair. Service is very good but the kitchen is somewhat erratic with unpredictable pacing. The best interior two-tops are against the side wall. If you want one of those you really need a reservation, otherwise you may find yourself at a very long communal table or squeezed at the bar. There is also patio seating but it’s heated and covered which pretty much negates the notion of outside eating. However, it is quieter and more intimate but must be vacated by 9:30 PM. The best two-tops there are closest to the restaurant. Starbelly has recently received a full liquor license and is planning to go hog-wild – creative cocktails, happy hour, and what not starting August 7th, 2018. It will be interesting to see how the place morphs when it starts slinging hefty drinks. If you’re in the Castro neighborhood; Starbelly is one of the best sensibly priced options for lunch or dinner.

I have always enjoyed the meals I’ve had at starbelly. Great thin crust pizza, interesting drinks, fun appetizers and desserts. While it’s not a “family” restaurant I’ve had really good experiences taking my twins here starting at age 2— there’s no kid menu but most kids will eat pizza, and the wait staff has always been pleasant and helpful.

The food was surprising, seasonal menu was great, service was friendly, atmosphere was fun! We enjoyed the home made Pim's cup. The liver pate was unctuous and served with perfectly toasted bread. The side dishes (roasted brussels sprouts with a balsamic reduction: YUMMY!!!) were excellent. I would bring family and/or friends there anytime!

some of the menu items can be a bit "fussy" but one person's fussy is another's "innovative" It does totally suck that they do not have a full bar (Only beer and wine)

Nice dinning , food quality is impressive and economical highly recommended with family and children

We had such a solid lunch at Starbelly. The Cobb salad with grilled chicken was crisp, flavorful, and didn’t feel like a sad “I’m being healthy” decision. The pesto pizza stole the show though, perfectly cooked and insanely satisfying without being too heavy. The sangria was the icing on top, cold, refreshing, and exactly what you want with lunch. The whole place had a great vibe too, relaxed but still lively. Service was friendly and on it without hovering. Would absolutely go back and order the same thing again.

We were at Starbelly for a wedding reception and the service was excellent. Very attentive staff, a variety of food and the drinks flowed freely. Eclectic interior and patio with a fun vibe.

Nice and cozy restaurant in Castro District, with comfort food and a beautiful patio. I specially enjoyed the mushroom pizza.

The restaurant has happily been around for a while in a spot that is not the most longevity prone. The food and the staff make it very worthwhile. Been twice in the last month and today was a "small" Starbelly salad with excellent babette steak cooked exactly right! Let time was brunch eggs with chorizo - a tex-mex combination. Also quite tasty! The place has a fun back outside area and a bar in the front with hot and informative tenders. Don't miss this gem in the Castro!

Made a brunch reservation for outdoors seating on a Saturday. We live in SF and are aware of the local rules, therefore we look for places to eat outdoors. Arrived, informed them of my name, they they asked for vaccine cards. I said we don't have those that's why we book outdoor seating. Informs us the entire restaurant requires card for dining regardless. This info wasn't on website. Just another idiotic made of rule. Managed to find a cool Mediterranean across the street. Go here instead, for good service and food.

Laid back, smart and very good food - everything you could want from a neighbourhood restaurant. Loved the vibe, knowledgeable wait team and a well considered menu leaning heavily on the local for produce and craft beer. Enjoy - I did.

I went there on a recommendation from my colleagues and boy did it not disappoint! Highlights for me were the steak and house made chorizo pizza. Delicious!!

Pre read the reviews and decided on a visit for lunch. The service was very friendly, welcoming and relaxed. The lunch menu though small was varied enough and would definitely recommend the pizza and pasta dishes. Wine choice was good and location just tucked off the Main Street of Castro.

We had been to Starbelly on a previous visit to San Francisco and went back there with high hopes. The food was again very tasty, but the service was poor. Even though we had made a reservation, we were given the table right next to the entrance when we arrived. It is impossible for anybody to sit and eat there and the restaurant would do better to remove the table and chairs and create more space for the people who are waiting to be seated! After my wife argued with the staff, we were given a nice table on the back terrace, though we were warned that it would have to be closed at a certain hour because of the neighbors and their complaints about noise (in fact, no such thing happened). So far, so good. But then it took forever for the starters to arrive and when they did, the main course followed within a couple of minutes. Obviously the timing in the kitchen had gone a bit off. Now these things happen, but the LOOK on the waitress's face when my wife ask if we could please finish our starters first and whether they could bring us the main dishes later...... Moreover, there was no apology for the mix-up or for the inconvenience caused. After this, it was hard to enjoy the food and we left with a feeling of disappointment.

Conveniently located in The Castro, Starbelly is a lot larger than it appears from the street, though reservations are recommended. They serve a wide variety of very tasty food from less sophisticated offerings such as pizzas and burgers to house-made chicken liver pate (wonderful) and butter beans with kale and chorizo (delightful). The pizzas were unexpectedly good and had thin, crispy crusts. The bangers and mash were very good. The only food disappointment was the mushroom dumplings because the dough was too thick. The wine pricing was disproportionately high (meaning overpriced). It cost only a dollar less for a smallish, mediocre glass of wine than it did for the wonderful pate—with all the trimmings. Service was professional, and the noise level was fine in which to hold a conversation.

We booked this before our trip to San Francisco as we wanted someone special to go for our anniversary. So glad we did, it was amazing. The food was delicious and the staff couldn't be nicer to us. The place was packed so we were glad we booked. I had the pea lentils and then the spaghetti, which was the best pasta I have ever had. My partner had the nettle, potato pizza which was great. We were stuffed but had to try a pudding so shared the warm toffee cake - amazing. If we could stay in San Francisco just to go back there we would.

This is my kind of place! Besides the great food (and cocktails!) the energy of the place, the music, the space in general, makes me feel happy! Quick and attentive servers close the deal! Corn soup for the soul, fresh salad, starbelly bacon pizza and for cocktail, the “doctor’s order”.

What a great place for brunch ! We went quite early on a Sunday and the restaurant was already full but the waiter took our cell and told us she would call us in 30 min and she did ! We sat at the communal table and had a great brunch . Service fast and friendly. Definitely I will go back

We liked the place due to the food selection and the lovely patio. Service was friendly and helpfull. I had a great cesar salad with chicken. Really recommendable.

we recently had a really bad evening at Starbelly and were surprised, disappointed. Timing out from the kitchen was all wrong; entrees arriving at different times, starters arriving after entrees, poor presentation -- what's going on Starbelly!? the wait staff was also stretched way too thinly to adequately serve the sections they were working: it took us a good 10~15 minutes for the runner to bring us water glasses (empty) and then another 5 mins to receive water finally before the waiter was able to get to us. Slow, overworked servers caught the anger of the table next to us and struggled to set things right. Little gems salad was washed and left too wet so dressing was pooling in the base of the bowl, the dumplings were in a oily sauce with a bad presentation...

Loved the pizza and salads. I liked the beer selection as well. ask to be seated in the back courtyard for a nice relaxing environment.

Nothing To say about the restaurant. Fast service, medium food, great ambience. In the end, when we asked for the bill, (79.75 total for 4 persons) the blonde man brought it. We paid and after that he said that he didn’t add the value of the tips. So far so good but he came with a value of 14.22 on his cellphone for a tip (17%) that led us to ask what was that . At this moment he turned into an agressive person, asking why didn’t we want to pay and ask us to leave and calling us “trash” wow xD You have plenty better restaurants in this area with much more quality than this. Be advised !!

Starbelly should get highest ratings for their food, hospitality and value for $. I was most impressed. Our persimmon salad was fresh, crisp and perfectly balanced. Plus, for $12 it was amply sized to be a starter for 2. Next, our spaghetti dish was delicious. We thought we'd try 1 more and wished the butternut squash dumplings were 4 to an order, both to feel like the dish was good value and to split evenly. Still, it was equally brilliantly prepared. There's a great choice of wine by the glass in the $10 range, Plus, the date cake dessert was equally split-able and yummy for only $7. Mouth-watering menu items, good portion size for the most part, + tasty dishes served up hot immediately from the open kitchen, are the positive factors that make StarBelly a neighborhood fave. Come for dinner or try the midday brunch open all week and weekend.

I was recently in San Francisco and just happen to walk by Starbelly and stopped in for quick bite. Everyone was super nice and the service was prompt yet relaxed. I started with the cauliflower soup, followed by a lovely plate a spaghetti. I sat at the bar and just savored the great food, and watched the world walk by.

The service was very attentive and with good sense of humor. We spent the evening in the outside patio. It was not cold at all- the gas heaters did it. Gazpacho was excellent, so was the pate with bread, do not miss them. Rare medium burgers were fantastic! Would definitely come back.

Starbelly was recommended by friends and we were excited to try it. The restaurant was very crowded and lively and everyone looked like they were having fun. We ordered a large salad to be split, an appetizer and 2 entrees. The salad came out very dry and we had to request additional dressing. The waiter never brought us our appetizer. The entrees were both good. When we were ready to pay our bill our waiter told us the internet was down and he could not process our credit card. He kept on trying and we had to wait for almost 45 minutes. He asked us if he could write down the credit card number and process it later but this is not acceptable because we would have no idea who had access to our credit card information. The restaurant should have some kind of backup system to process credit cards.

This neighborhood favorite, located in the Castro, enjoys a good reputation. Sadly, our experience was far from exemplary. The restaurant offers California comfort food. Both inside and patio dining are available. We visited the restaurant for brunch and were provided a nice table in the patio which soon filled up with what appeared to be regulars. Our server was polite but fairly curt. We ordered both breakfast and a burger for me. My daughter's breakfast included sausage which was stone cold. My hamburger was so raw as to make it inedible. The server seemed irritated that I asked for the burger to be re-cooked. I didn't receive it replacement until much later at which time my daughter had finished her meal. When my new burger arrived, it was cooked as asked and was quite tasty. We were never offered refill on our coffee until well after our meal was over. The service, cold sausages and inedible first burger added up to a fairly poor showing.

Nice menu and good cocktails .House made breads, great pizza, house made pate, with many vetatarian options,Only con a bit noisy but back patio much quieter

Salad was ok, but pizza was disappointing especially since others have reviewed it positively. The crust was burnt in several places, not in a good way, and was tough. Didn't satisfy our pizza urge. Meh.

I came here with a group of friends for brunch. It's a trendy eatery with a back area. Food was okay to good - burgers and pizza mostly. A friend had some fried chicken which he thought was fantastic. Wine seemed very expensive. Service was so-so. Toilets were a bit run down for this type of place.

We liked it here so much we came back twice. Lovely team looking after their guests, delicious and varied menu (with some good vegetarian options), and friendly lively atmosphere.

One of the best pizzas I have had! We were visiting friends who live in the Castro and we were craving pizza, so this was the place to be. We ordered two different pizzas; Starbelly Bacon and Pizza Margherita and they were both amazing! The atmosphere was perfect and we didn't have to wait long at all. Next time I'm in the area, I will be stopping back! So delicious and fun!

The pizza was great, service super good, and the napkin tea towels wonderful. In the heart of the Castro

Went here for lunch and was a very lackluster experience. The food was OK, but did not stand out. What was inexplicable was the slow and indifferent service. The restaurant was at barely 50% capacity and the staff were complaining on how busy they are. In the end the waitstaff never even picked up my payment from my table, I had to walk it over with my credit card when i needed to leave. Until major upgrades in the quality and responsiveness of the servers are addressed, I’ll take my business elsewhere.

Visited star belly on recommendation from a friend. Such a pleasure to find a great place for Italian. This place is very popular, and for good reason. Comfortable fit out and very polite and friendly staff.. But let's talk about the food! Burrata with green peas served with grilled sourdough, is a creamy delicate entrée which gets your palette ready for your main meal. This is not a big entree, good enough for one person but if your gonna share get two it's worth it. Spaghetti with tomato sauce jalapeño and grana pedano is a beautiful dish, good portion of al dente pasta. The jalapeño adds a good heat to it without your regular chilli flavour subtle flavours throughout the dish and a perfect portion. Good cheese plate with bread, maybe it's not an American thing to have biscuits with cheese that's why we only got bread. Personally I'd like bread and biscuits. But that's me.

Excellent, reasonably priced food in the Castro area. I myself had the fresh spaghetti with bacon. We ate on the back patio, which was nice & quiet.Pizza was good, too, as was the white bean appetizer. Dessert was meh.

This is one of the best pizzas I've had. Crust was great and perfectly seasoned. Staff was extremely friendly and very relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Even though we booked the restaurant weeks in advance, we were seated at the tented area at the back of the restaurant, which by 8.30 pm was empty and lacking any atmosphere. We were disappointed not to have been allocated a table in the main restaurant, which buzzy, busy, and full. The food was good and well presented, but we thought the drinks were overpriced. Service was OK, but not particularly welcoming or friendly. I don't think we'd go back.

Solid food and takes reservations. We had the Starbelly salad, fries, fish tacos, and squash pizza. Nothing spectacular but the restaurant did accommodate our last minute reservation (party of 7). They have a modern bar area and a warm patio. Good service.

A friend recommended Starbelly in the Castro. We made a reservation but chose the bar since there were available seats. We ordered the chicken liver pate, mushroom pizza and the pan roasted black mussels. They were all good!

The Castro District offers many delights for all your senses, including your tastebuds. Should you be in the need to feed, do not overlook Starbelly on 16th Street. From the outside, the restaurant may look like many cafes in San Francisco, but when you enter, you will find a delightful culinary venue. The staff are friendly and professional, and the decor is spacious, warm and inviting. The place is more long than wide with patio seating in the back. Dining with natural light and air always adds to my nutrition intake. Today, the patio was full so I was seated inside with a clear view of the patio. The natural light was not missed. I ordered the chicken and buttermilk waffles in maple syrup with the House Blend Iced Tea. The items were served quickly and together. My lovely server placed a glass bottle of water with my meal. You can request still or sparkling water with your meal. The iced tea was unsweetened and tasted like fresh brewed tea, the waffles were so light and fluffy that it did not feel overindulgent while the chicken was spicy and tender. All this was complemented well with the not overly sweet maple syrup. I highly recommend Starbelly for a quick bite or a break from touring.

The wine and pizza were good, the white beans puree was spectacular!! Service is excellent..will come back! Pricing is a bit high but the whole evening experience was worth it

If you want to sit outside for 20 minutes while the server wastes your time BS'ing at other tables, this is the place for you. The "server" even took 6 separate payments from the table next to us. Apparently the group never heard of Venmo. Now if that isn't a blatant "I see you and don't care" I don't know what is. He did so all without acknowledging us. Not even a hello, or a glass of water. Nothing. Just a smug smirk and some annoying faces from a shady middle-aged queen. We had more interaction with the bus person. Everybody outside was being helped..just not us. Very disappointing. This place was once one of our favorite spots. Oh well, plenty of better options. Someone at Starbelly cried to Yelp about this review and it got removed. Train your staff better if you don’t want this to be the experience of your patrons Starbelly!

With eclectic fare and a hip artsy vibe, this long and narrow restaurant is now a mainstay in the ever-changing Castro. Service is excellent - ask for recommendations and nightly specials.

Drove up and down trying to find a simple lunch, parking space and good food. Had a delicious salad with feta for lunch with dreamy dressing. I had paid extra for added chicken. It was really tasty but tiny portion for 3 bucks. I wouldn't do that again. Welcoming atmosphere filled with locals. Organic food. If you are in the neighborhood I would say it is your best bet.

We just landed in SF and wanted a delicious, casual lunch and Starbelly hit the spot! The portions were fantastic, too! We had the soup, salad, veggie burger (best I've ever had) and the Mediterranean platter. All were outstandingly delicious, the environment was friendly and inviting and the service was perfect! We will definitely be back!

Everything on the menu is great, it seems. We shared appetizers, small plates, entrees. My favorite is the cold cucumber soup, so refreshing after a busy day!

Came for a weekend lunch. It's a very lively, noisy, robust environment. Good service: friendly and fast. My Prather Ranch Burger topped with blue cheese was quite excellent. My spouse was happy with his Chicken Caesar Salad. Thanks to our server's recommendation I tried the Blood Orange Gose beer. A unique taste and surprise hit! Perfect with my burger. We will surely be back.

What a breath of fresh air to find a Michelin recommendation with Starbelly in the heart of Castro. Once inside, the ambience is trendy and cozy. The metallic tables and barn like feel reminded me of my visits to Wisconsin - where I got lost driving and all I could see were pasteur of forever greens and barns galore! Hahaha :p As for their dishes, I’d suggest you try their white bean puree, black olive tapenade & grilled flatbread. It will fill up your tummy just enough for the next course. Starbelly’s house made pumpkin dumplings made with brown butter, sage, pumpkin seeds & shaved goat cheese was absolutely fantastic!!! One serving is not enough and I suggest you order three. Surprisingly also something so simple like spaghetti served with bacon, jalapeño, tomato sauce & basil tasted refreshingly delicious. I really enjoyed it a lot. It tasted so fresh. All in all, their servings here were good, their menu was nice and simple, and their service was great. I’d definitely comeback again especially for a nice local restaurant in the City. Until then, Cheers! ~ :p

Just off Market Street in the Castro, we finished a walking tour of the neighborhood and our guide suggested this place. We had a Margarita pizza and ice teas. It was enough to split easily. The sunny room on the back was quiet but the service was a little slow. Too many patrons, too few servers perhaps. I would like to try some other dishes but my sister was not adventurous. Make sure you get solid directions as the signage is modest.

The staff is very friendly and the location is good to find. We had some good food and nice drinks. Really recommend getting the fries for a starter. Only down side is that people wait inside the restaurant and then it becomes very noisy. We had to almost yell at each other.

We met friends here for dinner. It was very busy but service was good. Three had burgers, I opted for pizza with bacon and cheese. We all had dessert - strawberry shortcake, ice cream and rice pudding. On the whole the food was good, but not spectacular.

Been coming here for years, and have come to love their loco moco and pizzas. Expanded drinks menu, always market fresh produce, excellent service and great prices. A solid winner. Enjoy!

Tasty food and nice beers in trendy surroundings, the menu consists mostly of safe choices with no big surprises. Very friendly staff.

I've been to Starbelly a handful of times. Note, they don't serve hard booze but the wine and beer list is still really great. I've been here for brunch and dinner and both meals are super solid. I love the pizzas here, great crust and unique toppings. I think we had one with goat cheese and figs and that was superb. The burger is delicious! I think this is a great constant in my SF dining when I visit because I know it's always going to be good!

Following reviewers recommendations we landed at Starbelly for brunch on Saturday. This little gem is a piece of yummy goodness. The wild mushrooms with gruyère, thyme & roasted onion pizza was the other half's lunch and she is very picky. Stepping out of her box proved to be a delicious endeavor! The Fried chicken and French toast for me was equally scrumptious once I got a bit more of their maple syrup. Finger licking good! Our server was beyond excellent; I wish I had remembered her name. We sat on the back patio and she was quick and efficient. The bartender had been heavy handed on the OJ for the mimosa and she took care of it without us even saying a word! The space is amazing. Seems like a little hole in the wall but it's not!! A must visit!!

Simple but high quality preparation. Communal atmosphere with some descent wines and beers. People watching is certainly a part of the experience.

The best thing about Starbelly is their customers think it is a fine restaurant and this keeps them out of the really good places. Read all the nuts reviews about Starbelly as a charming, small, intimate restaurant. 5 stars. I mean, where are you folks from? The loud-mouthed adolescent squirrels who hang out here who enter in droves around 8:30 pm in fact, know nothing about dining out. Starbelly is comfortable for them because it reminds them of an undergraduate dormitory dining hall. No style, no comfort, no professional service. Granted, the food itself isn't bad just served in very tiny and expensive portions. But if you are looking for something more than just shoveling food in your face then why bother coming here? I suppose you could respond because that table for two right inside the entrance is always available and no other table ever is. True mess-hall fashion. No sense here of dining as a pleasant experience. Will never go back.

Great very pleasant staff and food. Reasonably priced, for the Castro area. But difficult parking. We've been there twice and both times have been very good/value.

Relaxed low key but intimate atmosphere in the evening, delicious food - especially the pumpkin parcels and tasty cocktails! Couldn't recommend it more highly.

.....try to visit whenever I'm in San Francisco. Arrived tonight hoping the fried chicken was still on the menu - no such luck. Ordered the halibut in its stead. It arrived and, sad to say, way over cooked. Waitstaff took care of it immediately and next version arrived...pure perfection. These folks are a class act and the real deal!

Great place to eat in Castro. I am a PizA Lover and definitly i ate the best pizza. I recoment the Hand Made Chorizo and egg Pizza.

We would have missed this hidden gem if not for a local recommendation. There's a covered patio and an indoor area for dining. Our waiter suggested our meals and nailed it. We enjoyed our two meals: Chilaquiles and Mixed Mediterranean Plate. The chilaquiles had great flavor. Our salad which came with it was delicious and had fresh goat cheese. We will return to have the veggie burger and chicken n waffles. Service was good on a Friday mid afternoon.

If your looking for an organic laid back place to take your boss out for lunch or to meet friends this is the place! Amazing soup and salads and drinks! I love to sit on the patio when the weather is nice.

starbelly a must visit place good food quality and dinning with a variety of food dishes and family place

We were staying with friends in the Castro and looking for a nice place to eat. We're glad we ended up here. It was full, but they were able to seat us at the communal table. The menu had both small and large plates. I had small plate, including a wonderful gazpacho, a pickled cauliflower salad with chili pepper and fresh, grilled sardines. My daughter had a pasta dish with bacon that she loved. Although it was full, it wasn't too noisy.

I💛green goddess dressing. If it's on the menu, I will order it - I can't help myself. Fortunately for me, I haven't had a bad experience yet - and Starbelly's Bibb Salad with Green Goddess dressing is no exception. Topped with perfectly cooked crispy very lean bacon strips and fresh, grilled chicken - mmmmwah! 😘C'est magnifique - every delicious bite. My favorite is Delfina's green goddess dressing, but Starbelly's introduction of bacon & chicken in their salad helps nudge them to a very close tie with Delfina's. Loved their house made ginger lime lemonade as well. My husband ordered the Italian eggs Bennie - wonderfully flavorful as well. The host, servers/runners and busser were all super welcoming, helpful, friendly and efficient. Contemporary dining room with a definitely warm/ inviting vibe. Cool enclosed outdoorish (hard to describe) seating as well. We will be back - many, many thanks Starbelly for an awesomely delicious brunch! ⭐️

Amazing food and excellent service. Wonderful restaurant with a wide array of selections for food and drink.

We went there as many sites and people recommended that restaurant. The place is really nice, staffs cool, but what a deception - and probably a misunderstanding -. I ordered for a squash pizza. [Be advised that particular pizza is REALLY spicy.] It was too spicy for me, and I advised the staff. The waitress encouraged me to order for another pizza (same but not spicy), what I did. But at the end the bill mentioned 2 pizza and no commercial gesture. I know that I choose (by mistake as English is not my native language) that pizza, but really, who is able to eat so spicy. I think that the minimum would have been a gesture, something as 50% off on the initial pizza. But nothing. So go there for the place, and even for the food, but : 1- be advised that the squash pizza is really hot 2- don’t even thing you’ll have any “help”

Cuisine is creative, and the place maybe even a bit too hipster. Service is friendly and attentive. We got dinner reservations a bit early and really helped to get one before the crowds get mental. It's nice to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather. Can cross the street to the Castro - and this is certainly a nice break from the craziness over there.

Enjoyed a good halibut, prepared nicely. The waiter, however, insisted on talking to me, and not addressing my black friend.

We're glad we made reservations to eat here before our recent trip to San Francisco. The interior of the restaurant is very nice looking, and the menu is varied and inventive. Service was great, too. I recommend the house made ginger lemon soda, if anyone's looking for a non-alcoholic refresher. It definitely got busy as the evening wore on, happy we got a chance to try it!

4 of us ate tapas style. Heartily enjoyed the food: buratta with apples and honey; mushroom dumpling; kale salad; margherita pizza, and market mushroom pizza. Upbeat ambiance. Local alcoholic drinks on offer.

A friend and I stopped by for dinner. We were seated fairly quickly. After 15 minutes, no waiter showed up to serve water or take our order. I asked if a waiter could stop by and about 10 minutes later, one arrived. It took a long time for us to get our dinner, which wasn't complicated (burger, soup and hummus), while other customers who arrived later were served before us. My friend enjoyed his burger. My califlower soup didn't have much flavor and the hummus was bland, leaving a strange aftertaste. After we finished our meal, no one showed up to give us a check until I asked, which was 15 minutes after our plates were cleared. I left the money on the table to receive change but no one came by so we decide to leave our money (with tip) on the table.

The menu has previously never looked inviting for us, but they must have changed it as it now looks all very tempting, clever without being over complicated Some of the small plates are actually quite large, and next time i think we would share a pizza with a couple of glasses of (delicious) wine, dessert and that woudl be plenty We will go back again

We love the area and go there often but hadn't been to Starbelly before. Had a late lunch with friends recently. We four were seated on the back patio, which had delightful light and ambience at 1:30pm. Not crowded. Very relaxing. Didn't need the heaters --- very mild weather. Heaters are available for cooler night weather though. I had a margarita pizza. Super tasty, but no tomatoes. Lots of scrumptious sauce and basil though. Crispy thin crust. Husband had a delicious veggie burger. Our friends had sandwiches with some of the best thin fries ever. We each had wine -- mine was a nice $8 sangria on the cocktail menu. We were there for over four hours. Wait people were friendly and accommodating throughout, always checking on us and making sure we had extras (dessert) if necessary. No rush to leave. We will definitely return soon. We're probably much older than Starbelly's usual clientele demographic, but were made to feel very comfortable and welcome. Starbelly is right near the F-line (old streetcars) so very easy to get there on Market Street.

Great Brunch here on the patio. We shared the fried chicken sandwich and the pizza with sausage. The pizza was great and loved the thin crust. The poi boy sandwich was equally terrific and the brunch cocktails were perfect.

Cool eatery close to the Castro. Great appetisers, especially the pate. Lovely asparagus and crab soup on our visit. For mains steer away from the perfectly good pastas and pizzas and head for the more interesting speciality dishes. Good cocktails too. If a high table at the ledge is all you can get still take it, but be ready to engage in a spot of contortionism! Cool garden, but probably full. Busy place with a busy vibe, so don't go if you're looking for peace and quiet.

We stumbled across this cute little restaurant and basically went inside because of the Michelin recommendation. We thought it was really nice so we waited the 25 minutes they had us wait for a table. Let me tell you, it wasn't worth it. The food (we ordered two different types of pizza) wasn't anything extraordinary and the sparkling water tasted awful because they had a device that made the bubbles so it tasted kind of metallic. My mo ordered a Coke and without telling her they didn't had Coke, they brought her an imitation that tasted awful (I tasted it too and she was right). After that average to poor meal we saw the tab. Bad value for money. Too expensive for something not so good. I wouldn't come here again.

I was happy with my dinner at Starbelly. Good ambiance, a nice patio and the food was delicious. The corn dumplings were excellent. All four people in my party gave Starbelly a thumbs up.

I took two of my friends out to dinner tonight to console them (their car was stolen last night) and they picked Starbelly because they knew it would be a great meal. I had not eaten there before, but I was very favorably impressed. Food was extraordinary, service was impeccable, and the prices were pretty good for a San Francisco restaurant. I had a veggie burger that was made from quinoa and peas, and it was pretty darn good. (Most veggie burgers taste like dog food to me, so I have learned to set low expectations, but the Starbelly veggie burger was actually enjoyable to eat.) We had wonderful appetizers and you can get wonderful bread with olive oil for $2. It was rich and earthy and absolutely perfect. Our server was gracious, friendly, and attentive. Only complaint is that the restaurant was crowded and we had to sit at the "community table," a long table with barstools. That table itself wasn't too crowded, so we had a pleasant dinner, but the barstools were not comfortable for a 90-minute dinner. When I return, I'll come earlier when we can get a regular table. I've been to every restaurant in this part of the city, and Starbelly is easily in the top 20%. Highly recommended.

A great location amid the hot spots of the Castro. This restaurant offers a meat-heavy menu with interesting appetizers. It is a bit bustling with a great heated back patio.

Although we were not impressed by the Fall Menu with regard to its range, we were able to order from it. The dishes we ordered were well prepared and the service was impeccable! Perhaps, they should put more of the staples on in Winter, such as the sausage and mash which is exceptional!

A little bit disappointed. The place, atmosphere and the bar was cool but the food can be better in a place like that. I have take the house burger with a beautiful description on the card but when I eat it that was dry and very ordinary burger ... It's shame because the staff was already good.

Star belly is a casual, trendy place with good food and great atmosphere. The noise level is energetic but still possible to have conversation. The menu has some interesting takes on several things, including the pizzas we enjoyed. Take friends and plan to spend the evening.

Met a friend here, her 1st time. Thankfully we went early and missed the the Mommy Daddy Baby crowd and the later louder crowd. So we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Service was great and very attentive, sadly, I don't know the fellas' name, my friend has the receipt. We started with the Chicken Liver Pate which was outstanding and a very generous portion and plenty of toast points to go with. Though we had to ask for my onion Chutney, not enough for the whole serving - $14.00 Next up my favorite the Starbelly Bacon Jalapeno pizza w/Green Goddess dressing - $18 = 8 large slices, plenty. This one was a bit of a fail this time (1st time, as I've had it many times). Too heavily garnished with arugula but the bigger issue was it was way too heavy on the tomato sauce, which lended to a very soggy wet pizza in the middle and 1st bite, everything slid right off. Plus, it was really skimpy on the bacon. Graciously, after mentioning this to our server, they made us a brand new pizza, minimal sauce, more or the right amount of bacon and cooked more "well done". I shall remember this next time I have a pizza. I will return but did want to mention this about the pizza. If you too experience this, ask them to re-do.

Good different types of pizza. Brussel Sprouts were scrumptious and the ambiance was a fun, lively neighborhood place. Easy walking distance to lots of good shopping.

They offer a varied and upscale wine selection. Seating in the 'outdoor' area under the awning was nice for an evening meal. We tried the starbelly salumi and the split pea fritters with curried yogurt apps. Very tasty. Can recommend the grilled summer corn and white cheddar pizza that included mozzarella, grana, cilantro, aleppo & lime. That was only slightly better than the pizza margherita which was delicious with its fresh mozzarella & basil toppings. Can only imagine how great the other pizza choices are. Very nice place with delicious plates. Average price per person is around 30 dollars. The staff is nice and friendly, highly recommended.

My family had brunch yesterday and found this is not a place to visit again. Everyone's food was average at best and the sausage link was inedible. Drinks are sour and not mixed well and you feel the service staff consider this is a job and not one they look forward to going to each day. Not at all friendly, no matter how hard we tried. Too many good restaurants in SF to spend your time here.

Wandering around The Castro district on a Saturday night, a stranger and I who had just met days earlier at a medical conference were trying to cram in as many varied tastes, sights, and sounds of San Francisco as we could in just a few afternoons after sitting in lectures all day. A local on the sidewalk suggested Starbelly to us. The menu had several interesting entrees, but the burger caught both of our eyes. I hate going into a neat, eclectic, little local restaurant with not the usual run-of-the-mill menu choices and then ordering a hamburger, but we asked the diners(locals) at the next table and they assured us it was a fantastic burger. We each had a pint of different craft beers which our server recommended after a discussion of our preferences in beer. She even brought out a sample of each one first to make sure we would enjoy our choice. I told her that I'm not really a beer person and she accommodated me very well with a lighter choice. Now to the burger. OMG. It was absolutely one of the best hamburgers I have ever had. Ever. Thick and flavorful with juices dripping off the bun as I lifted it to my mouth. You know a burger is good when it has been so juicy that the top of your bun doesn't match the bottom of your bun as you're finishing, because the huge, juicy burger has been sliding around so much. Our hostess was right...our bellies were the stars here! Order it medium-rare as our server talked me into. It was perfection :)

Starbelly (3583 16th St., San Francisco, CA 94111, tel. 415-252-7500, www.starbellysf.com) was recommended when we were on the SF City Guides tour of Castro. Our server, Darcie, was good. We had one sweet corn soup ($9) and one steak salad ($13). There was so much meat on the salad that we had 4 pieces to take home! The soup was good and very filling. We asked Darcie bring us some bread and she did (without charging). We spent $24.64 plus tip.

You have to love this busy restaurant. You can choose to sit at the communal table or at a high top table for two. The food is outstanding - especially the pate and the pizzas. The choices are hand prepared, earthy and prepared with the highest quality ingredients. We over ordered from the mini dishes, but were happy with every selection.

Restaurants in a city like SF fall in and out of favor pretty quickly, but Starbelly's been around for awhile and it's as good as the first time I ate there. Brunch, lunch, dinner -- each menu has its stars and they're all delicious. Sit in the patio if you can, but eating at the bar or the communal table can also be a fun experience. Their pizzas are great, and their own take of a loco moco is totally satisfying. And the cocktails -- terrific! I'm not really a sweet mixed drink kind of person -- just give me a dry martini every time! -- but they make this cocktail called The Other Demon and it's perfect: lemon, cocchi, kina l'avion, and a charred jalapeno syrup make for a super combo of flavors. Always a great experience here at Starbelly!

Went here for lunch over the weekend at 12:30. Dangerous I know but we were able to sit at the bar right away. There are 3 little tables out front and all had dog owners which I love. Seating in the back patio that was very cute on the sunny but windy day. The bartender was very sweet and quick which was great because we had a movie to catch at Kabuki. And lastly the food was great, nothing super amazing but I would order the same thing again easy

Came here for dinner on my last day in San Francisco and wasn't disappointed. Trendy spot with a local, neighborhood vibe. Friendly and attentive staff. Opted for the veggie burger and fries. The food was fresh and beautifully presented. The Pimms cup cocktail was refreshing, great summer drink. Highly recommended.

A friend and I did the free city guides walking tour in the Castro, which I recommend. Asked our guide for a few restaurant recommendations. He suggested a few and we were delighted when we walked into Starbelly. It has a cool chic vibe. It was lunch time and choose to eat on the patio which had a canopy overhead. We both had the lemonade with lavender which was very refreshing. We ordered our burgers medium and they came out perfect and the meat was tender, tasty and juicy. The fries are to die for. Seriously, probably the best, skinny, crisp well seasoned ones I have had in years. Our waitress was a bit of scatter brain, but overall loved it, recommend and hope to return.

Everything in The Castro is expensive, and somewhat mediocre.... HOw is it that this type of place can get away with those prices is beyond me..... yes i know they have a minimum wage to cover, but they tack the Health insurance to the costumer and the food is just pricey for what it is....... I will try to avoid this place since i hate to pay 4 bucks for a cup of coffee and high prices for brunch........

It’s Gen Y. It’s a mix of share tables. It’s noisy. Bookings essential to ensure a seat. Groups are everywhere. It’s full-on. It’s definitely not a quiet romantic candlelit joint. But at least no one will hear you ‘propose’ cos it’s decibel driven. Food ordered was hardly memorable. Why I selected a Pizza with roasted corn, white cheddar, Aleppo Chile, cilantro and lime - I don’t know. A bad choice. Bit tasteless. I’m sure there were better options. My partner’s Halibut (it replaced the Ling Cod on the menu) was too salty she said. “I’ll be drinking water the rest of the night.” The serving was also small. My Margarita was ok. So all in all, it was just ok. Hardly worth being on the waiting list. On the other hand, it must be delivering something the ‘punters’ want. It’s well known and often listed as a ‘must do’ in travel columns etc. My ‘do’ is shop around...approach with caution. You never know what you might discover.

I've eaten atvStarbelly a few times and he always feels like a pleasant surprise since I often forget it's here because of the way it's located on 16th and Castro. As a venue, it's a great location on asunny day it's back section as well as few front tables. Insight you have teams of two's for yours as well as a community table down the center line. The food is an eclectic mix of retro, hipster, queer, tourist, hetero, gal-pal/gay-boy, lesbian chic chaos and the food is reflective of the of Community mix. On this sunny Saturday in early spring we did our own retro mix with fried chicken and waffles and a creamy salad with chicken bacon. For me the quality of a restaurant is in how the fried food tastes. Is the oil fresh? Am I tasting fish fry products not meant to be on my meat etc. Starbelly really knocked hard on this by producing a dish that offered a crisp hard bite with hot and steamy chicken inside. They totally nailed it on Saturday. Also offered a nice presentation with Napoleon style layering of waffle, chicken, waffle, chicken. Another dish was a creamy salad with chicken and bacon well good and crispy chicken rice and flavored bacon of course was great the dressing was creamy but a little bit bland I would have liked some more herbs or punch to it or maybe a bite of lemon in the dressing something that just woke it up some. Overall it's a great place if you haven't tried it, it's definitely worth a try. It can get busy on the weekends, but you can score a table if you go little bit later on a Saturday afternoon around 130 to 2 seems to be a natural quiet time which is a good idea because indoors it can be a little loud and chaotic when it's at full capacity b

This place offers a great dine-in pizza option. It is closer to the authentic Italian pizza than what is offered around so if this is what you are after then this is a good place for you.

It was a nice opportunity eating at Starbelly. I ordered burger but for every topping you need to add $2 which made it an expensive burger.

I have tried this restaurant two or three times. The service is terrible, the food disappointing, and the last time we went, we waited so long for menus and water that we left. I've given it a few chances, and I habitually give restaurants a few chances before writing them off. This one is beyond help. A friend who lives in the neighborhood confirms it's not worth the time or energy.

We were able to walk to this restaurant from Hayes Valley and enjoyed the outdoor patio in the back. Food was good and the service was a little inconsistent. We will go again because we like the variety of the menu.

The menu is limited which normally indicates good quality. This was certainly the case at Starbelly. Our starters of bean paste and curly kale Caesar salad were delicious. For mains we both went for the home made bangers and mash, outstandingly good! Desserts are equally good.

The quality of food was good. Nice environment. Having a great time. I want to visit again because the staff behavior is too good.

I've been for brunch and this place is very fun. Their french toast and chicken and waffles are fantastic. You will not have to eat for the rest of the day these both are so filling. They also have a very refreshing lavender lemonade which is perfect with brunch. Such a fun brunch place!

We had lunch and dinner at Starbelly this trip. On both occasions the food and service was outstanding, don't expect fine dining, do expect good quality local produce cooked well!

I went to lunch here with a friend on Good Friday. I had been here many times before when I lived in the neighborhood. And I find that I always enjoy my time here - my recent visit was no exception. There is a full bar and a nice wine selection. My friend and I started with bubbles in honor of the day and switched to wine later. We enjoyed a comfortable table on the patio which is partially outdoors (partly covered). The menu features standard starters, small plates and pizzas for sharing and full sized entrees if preferred. I've never had a meal I didn't like here. On this day, I tried the veggie burger with fries and salad and walked out fully satisfied. The atmosphere is pleasant and the service was with a smile. So, nothing to argue about with respect to Starbelly - you can reliably get a great meal, friendly service and a nice ambience.
Enjoyable evening meal
We only chose this restaurant due to its close proximity to the accommodation we were staying in. This is a very popular eatery, especially with the locals and as a result sometimes there can be up to an hour wait time. The staff are helpful and friendly. We ate here twice, once seated at the bar and once at a high top table. Both visits were were good. There is a good choice of food, the Fries and Dips to share were a very large portion for $7 pulse the Mushroom Pizza was excellent, produced a thin and crispy crust base. There are a lot of eating establishments in the area, but this one is certainly a level above most in the area. We had sufficient eat and a couple of drinks each and the bill was less than $80.
