Weds nite dinner

By Jay W |

In town for a meeting and met son and daughter for dinner at State and Allen. Weds nite is half price wine (glass or bottle) so a bonus. We shared the charcuterie board to start ($14). Reasonable mix of cold cuts but nothing exceptional. Had two seated Ahi tuna salads - very good! Cast iron pork chop was good and waiter agreed to change starch for veggie. Meat was drenched with sauce - too bad as meat was tender and well cooked but overwhelmed by sauce. Nice wine and beer selection and discount made a nice bottle affordable.

Good customer service

By pickygirl09 |

Just moving in down the street, so we called in a lunch order of 3 sandwiches to pick up. They actually got the order partially wrong but corrected it very quickly and did not even charge for the sandwich that was omitted from the order to make up for our short wait. Buffalo chicken and club sandwiches both very tasty, served on some really good bread, and with better than ordinary fries, too. Looks like a fun outdoorsy place with lots of atmosphere. Looking forward to dining "in" (on the patio) next time.

Very popular

By Judy P |

State and Allen is a casual, friendly bar with outside seating. Good pub food. Full bar. It can be loud but seems consistent with simple but good food.

Enjoyed a nice Sunday brunch at this location.

By bandman15 |

Nothing really fancy about this place but the food was excellent and the service friendly and quick.....but we did not feel rushed. I had the "pesto chicken sandwich" which was excellent. The staff is very helpful and engaged with the customers. I would certainly return to this location.

Getaway

Our server was great. She was very attentive and friendly and engaging. The food suggestions were on point. I would recommend this place.

Excellent Neigborhood Restaurant

By TheNJShore |

While staying in the Uptown area during a visit to Dallas, we had one dinner and two lunches at State & Allen. It’s a low key and fun restaurant with exceptional food. Dinner during the week found it busy with a younger crowd and a great vibe. Lunches were less crowded. Outside dining is available. Good selection of craft beers. Wait staff was welcoming and very professional. A standout item for me was the “Original Silver Bowl” salad, which their menu describes as “Chopped romaine, bacon bits, grapes, oranges slices, red bell peppers, spicy chicken and two dressings - balsamic vinaigrette & Caesar.” (When you order they explain the standard dressing is a mixture of the two dressings. It is delicious.) Several different sandwiches at lunch were also great. Parking can be tight in this neighborhood.

OK food, but overpriced

By Pauak |

The place is well located, in a backstreet near the buzzing McKinney area, so it is a decent option for dinner in a less crowded restaurant. Parking is fairly easy. The service was ok, but nothing extraordinary. The menu is kind of limited, and not specially fancy. This is place for good sandwiches and salads, and to share an appetizer while having a beer. Not a formal dinning option, nor a place for steak. The appetizer are rather small, and way too expensive. The cheese board is straight out a rip-off. $13 for 4 tiny slices of average cheese. Not even enough to share 2 persons. Vey disappointing. The triple dip is OK, but nothing out of the ordinary. The main courses are nicely presented, and well done. The bison burger was tasty and good, and the sweet potato side better than normal. But for $15 I'd expect so! The salads are really good but small sized. The bacon wrapped salmon and the halibut with Brussels sprouts very good. Well cooked and flavory. My conclusion is that if you look for a quiet place near the McKinney area, this may be an option, but I'd suggest to look around for alternatives as there may be better.

A+

Went to watch football and didn’t want to be in a loud, obnoxious bar atmosphere. This place has great service, food, drinks and tv’s. You can sit outside or inside. Parking is a bit of a challenge but found a spot. Highly recommend.

Great local flavor!

By Christine S |

This adorable little spot right in the middle of a residential district is a hidden gem off the beaten path. Most people stick to McKinney and lose out on the great food and cocktails this place has to offer. Don't cheat yourself!

Best Brunch!

By CopCutie |

Me and my adult daughters highly recommend this spot for brunch! It was affordable and the food was amazing 👏🏽 $20 bottle service for mimosas including juice, we mixed pineapple and orange 🍊 Our server Fin was pleasant and accommodating! We will definitely be back

Great Bar and food

By jodyturnbow |

Really nice place that could be nice dinner or casual lunch. Alex was our server and offer great insight to menu and bar list.

Loved the food, atmosphere!

By grwooda |

Very lovely restaurant in the heart of a "walking" neighborhood, enjoyed the food and the atmosphere!

Oh so GOOD!

By Donna G |

Nice, quint neighborhood restaurant. Wish the weather allowed us to sit outside. The food did not disappoint......our group had the chicken/waffles, crab cakes, eggs/bacon, potatoes. Oh my goodness it was AMAZING. They also have a Bloody Mary bar for a great price, but did not partake this visit. Highly recommend you put this spot on your list to visit. Already ready to go back.

Brunch was average

By a-travelin-foodie |

Really loved the interior - comfy and trendy at the same time. You can't beat mimosas for $2.50 (more champagne than oj, too) or bloody Mary's for $5. Service was great. Glad we'd booked ahead because if was crowded and we were on a fixed time frame - they had a table ready and waiting for us. But the food was average. Biscuits and gravy was almost below average, and the chicken with the chicken and waffle a bit dry. Bacon with the biscuits was pretty good. Eggs were cooked as we asked. Have heard great things about lunch and dinner, so maybe we'll try again if we're in the area.

Hidden gem!

By 3girls520 |

We happened upon this place by accident. It’s in a cute neighborhood and it’s clear that it’s very popular with local, young professionals. We visited on a football Sunday on a beautiful day...sidewalk and patio seating, even inside felt very open to the outside. 4 TV’s in the main dining area. The best part? I had one of the best buffalo chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had! The ranch was perfect, the bun was soft, and their homemade buffalo sauce was perfect.

Atmosphere in Uptown

By Roger H |

With the name "State and Allen Lounge," we weren't quite sure what the food would be like, but the location in the heart of Uptown with Victorian homes and colonial apartment homes was inviting enough to give it a try. Surrounded by a dog-friendly, covered patio and shady trees, this cozy corner restaurant has a friendly atmosphere, with polished concrete floors and brick walls, soft track lighting, lamps, and cloth napkins on solid-wood tables. The restaurant surrounds the bar, which is almost dwarfed by the large-screen sports TV overhead. A digital jukebox adds the diners' choice of music. The food was excellently seasoned and cooked to our liking. We were quite surprised at not only the quality, but the selection as well. We were expecting sports-grill food, but were delighted to find steak, pork chops, shrimp fettucine, braised chicken, grilled sandwiches and, yes, there were burgers and fries! May I recommend the potato salad? It was superb! The servers were friendly, prompt and ready to answer any questions about the choices of food. All in all, this was really a great restaurant. Oh, and the parking is free and in a garage. Perfect!

Great American Food

By k4mconsulting |

A very pleasant location with an open-air ambiance. We visited on Wednesday which is half-off wine night. Our waiter was very friendly, informative, and attentive. Our entrees ranged from a delicious crab-stuffed salmon, Buffalo chicken sandwich, a second one served on a salad rather than a sandwich, the pork chop and the short rib. All were delicious and well prepared and presented. I also recommend the dessert options.

Great food

By Reneereaganny |

This was our first time here. We ordered drinks... Beer for him... Mimosa for me... We had the triple dip to start with and it was amazing. He had a brunch item... Ham and egg on a croissant and love it. I had the chicken curry salad. Portions are large, you won't leave hungry! Can't wait to be back for dinner!!!

Neighborhood Pub - great selection

By Steven S |

Enjoyed this nice restaurant and pub in uptown. Great selection of Texas and specialty beer. Menu is diverse with chicken, steak and fish. Worth a visit especially if you are in the neighborhood.

great sports bar

By ryan10230 |

On a recent trip to Dallas my son and I caught a Braves//Dodgers playoff game here. Great little sports bar with nice selection of brews and surprisingly good bar food. In fact, it is not a bad place to grab dinner. Everything we had was well seasoned and prepared, and visually pleasing.

Excellent local spot

By Michael L |

I’ve been here too many times to count. A great neighborhood restaurant with a good range of quality food and nice patio seating for hanging out with friends. A great spot for a weekend lunch.

Horrible manager - Jessica

By Nikki S |

State and Allen has great food and staff. However their newest manager is horrible. Terrible to customers and all in all bad customer service. Personally was rude to me interrupting my conversation to spew out her political agenda. Was very unwarranted and rude!

Real turkey on the sandwich

By Bilsano |

I met my son here for lunch as he works nearby. It was my first visit and parking around here is a sketchy. But it was a great lunch. I ordered the Turkey Club. It was a large sandwich on large sliced toasted bread with real turkey breast, not the deli loaf stuff. It was delicious and came with a side. I chose the salad, which was huge...really a meal by itself. I ended up taking half the sandwich home. All in all, a good time with my son at a neat little sidewalk style cafe/lounge/sports bar and a great lunch. Highly recommend it.

Would go again

By YUMorYUCK |

So checked out this place with a group of friends last week for Saturday brunch. Food was good with nice flavor and priced about $12 per dish or so. Servings were not large enough to share but adequate. drink specials were good. Seemed like a trendy place with mostly 20/30 something crowd. The place would not have been great for kids as the chairs are mainly tall. Weather was great and people were enjoying the patio . Wait staff were friendly And prompt.

Great happy hour!

By Mara777777 |

Great happy hour. All appetizers 1/2 off. Had the Asian marinated beef skewers and a glass of cava. The skewers were so tasty, tender and quite abundant for an appetizer. They came with a great slaw! Service was friendly as well. Wish I had taken pic. Also wish I lived in the area so I could come back and try other dishes. Quaint place!

Good but not my go-to

By Sarah J |

Loved the ambiance at this place and they have a nice patio! The food was great but slightly overpriced, in my opinion. We sat at a table out on the patio that had a metal bench that was uncomfortable so I wish we would have had some sort of cushion. The service was ok, but really liked the half-priced wines! I was in the mood for a Caesar salad and it was only listed on the menu as a side salad, but they kindly made me a regular size Caesar which I appreciated! Overall I would come here again but it wouldn’t be my go-to place of choice.

Popular Spot in Uptown

By Paswaters |

If you're looking for a relaxed atmosphere in the trendy Uptown Dallas area, give State and Allen a shot. The wrap-around porch and good eats are a magnet for hungry, social people, and this place is usually packed in the evenings. The menu offers plenty of choice with the added bonus of daily specials. Monday's half-price pizza is a particular favorite. I highly recommend the fish taco plate that includes 3 batter-fried tacos with a yummy southwestern sauce and a nice bean salad on the side. Even on a hot nght the breeze will keep you comfortable enough, and the patio is pet-friendly, which is a great bonus.

My favorite place to brunch

By SarahNicci |

I've only ever been here for the Saturday brunch (mainly because of the $3 mimosa's) but have heard its good for all meals. Each time I eat there I've tried something different on the menu, and each time I'm not disappointed. I would highly recommend the Calabrese Omelette, I'll be getting it again next time I go. The atmosphere is so chill, you can also bring your dog for the patio seating.

Pub food extraordinaire

By tjmm1985 |

Ordered pub food from State and Allen and wow did they not disappoint. The fish tacos were awesome as was the smoked turkey club. This place is awesome.

Average food, slow service

By Faithng |

During a visit to uptown Dallas, my son found this place based on excellent Yelp reviews. We went there around 2:30pm, with only 2 other tables in the restaurant occupied. We walked in through all the open doors, not sure which one was the exact door to enter through. Sat at table for a while before someone decided to check on us. Menu was pricey, trendy type food. I ordered a "build your own" pizza (which came to almost $17) for a 12" cheese pizza, and my son had a pizza with meat and jalapenos. Needless to say, with the super slow and uncaring service, and the ridiculous price for food, we left on a very unhappy note. Turns out after sharing our experience with several of his millenial friends, they said they had been unhappy and unsatisfied with their visit too. I wish we had known before spending our time and money there.

Great Patio and Brunch - Pet Friendly

By Mayhew58 |

My husband, friends, and I all frequent State and Allen. The porch wraps around the building on a corner so even when it is hot outside, you still get a cooling breeze. The patio is allso pet friendly and waiters even provide water bowls. The food is quite good - there is a daily lunch special during the week as well as great specials during weeknights. I would especially recommend the brunch. While the menu isn't huge, everything on it is delicious as well as the mimosas and homemade Bloody Mary.

Sunday Brunch with Family

By Sneha |

This was my first time in Dallas and first time at this restaurant. A close family member lives very close to this restaurant and we decided to meet here for Sunday brunch. They have an interesting selection of brunch menu, mimosas, margaritas and other cocktails. I had scrambled eggs with mushroom, a side of avocado and some bacon with toast. They have regular coffee. I was expecting a few variations like cappuccinos and lattes but regular coffee worked me. They also do have mini cupcakes and they were delicious.

Brunch and Beverages

By tltalbert |

The State and Allen Lounge (SAL) is indeed a fabulous destination neighborhood restaurant and bar when visiting uptown Dallas. The service is attentive, the menu is creative, and quite frankly the whole scene is appealing. Whether you dine al fresco for brunch and watch your neighbors stroll by or climb a top a bar stool late at night with a cold beer and one of SAL's amazing pizzas you will know that you've found the right place to spend a couple of hours. Definitely do not miss the Saturday/Sunday brunch (the prosciutto and poached is amazing) w/ a "make it yourself" classic Bloody Mary cocktail bar to greet the morning.

Interesting and tasty

Hidden gem!

By guitardude9587 |

I frequently this place for lunch and it is my go-to spot. I take friends here, out of town guests, and anyone looking for a place off the beaten path. I've never had anything on the menu I didn't like, service was always top-notch, and it was easy to get in and out during lunch. Definitely worth a visit!

Birthday Brunch

By L D J |

A definite must try if you're ever in Dallas. We were here for a birthday brunch outing and it did not disappoint. The majority of the group ordered the steak and eggs and they were delicious. As an added treat, I ordered the French toast and it was delicious.

Trendy

By Regberly |

My nephew was in town for the holiday so we decided to meet there for a late lunch on Jan 1st. I had never been there (nor heard of it until I was looking for restaurants in the area). I truly appreciated the covered parking because parking would have horrible as it is a densely populated area. I could not figure out the door situation as I entered the door closest to the corner but the hostess was at the door closest to the parking garage. I came in right at the bar area so not sure what the other area looks like. Seems to be a popular place for young professionals because it was packed and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Several groups of 5, 6, 7 people and it definitely had a neighbor feel with people stopping in for a drink, a few laughs, and leaving out. It has outdoor seating but was too cold for that. Brunch mimosa left a little to be desired as it was flat with no real bite to it. I managed to get through one and then did water the rest of the time. I ordered soup (to warm up), a chicken sandwich and fries. Loved the fries (ate mine and part of my nephew's). He ordered chicken strips and while I did not taste them, they had a nice golden brown color and you could tell they were fresh and "homemade", not some fake frozen strips. Our waitress was super nice, kept us informed about our order and when to expect it. I think she was concerned about the wait because it was super busy but the wait did not seem long. There were TV'S in the bar area but I did not see people heavily focused, they seemed to be enjoying their friends instead. Overall I would go back (and order srips). They also have additional entrees that are available after 6pm.

Great local bar and restaurant

By John D |

Great neighborhood gathering place with plenty of sidewalk tables. Numerous tasty menu items and craft beers.

Nice dinner joint...

By Jason R |

Stopped in to meet up with some friends. Ended up having a few drinks a well. Club sandwich was delicious. Missus had the filet, and raved about it. Especially when you consider the price. Food was good, drinks were well made, and ambiance was relaxing. Would dine there again.

Fantastic brunch spot

By Ryan W |

Great Bloodys and Mimosas, but also had dinner there last night. Very good food. Go with the Love Love Bowl. Neighborhood gem.

Great for brunch

By MaryKop |

Spectacular service and excellent food. We stopped in for brunch one Sunday. Ordered a variety of foods--chicken and waffles; huevos rancheros etc. Everyone said their food was really good. Fast service. Our waiter was very attentive and had good suggestions. There are several dining room options--the restaurant, the bar and outdoors. We were n the bar area and it was comfy. Would eat here again.

Don’t miss this neighborhood gem❤️

Always great! Always treated like family❤️. I come here twice a week. The food and energy here is wonderful. Get here soon. You won’t regret it!

Awesome Neighborhood Gem!

By J E |

We were visiting the area and drove by this restaurant during the day... it looked really interesting so we decided to come back at dinner time to give it a try. We enjoyed the half-priced wine they sell on Wednesdays and as a result, got appetizers, entrees and 2 bottles of wine for only $90! What a GREAT deal! Their menu is unique and eclectic. Their food is great. Service is a team approach and they do a good job keeping up with the tables, no matter how busy they get. The filet mignon was perfect and a great deal! Jerk chicken was outstanding! The restaurant is in a neighborhood, like a mixed-use area, not far from McKinney, where all the restaurants are located, so take a walk one block down and enjoy this one too!

Great little neighborhood place

By J Person |

Nothing fancy. A comfortable seat, a simple menu, lots of great beers on draft and in the bottle (and some wine, but not my thing). We started with the calamari (with peppers, cilantro ranch and chili dipping sauces), lightly battered an not oily. Very tasty, and the dipping sauces were a nice complement. I had the Mediterranean salad (artichokes, olives, red peppers and cherry tomatoes in a vinaigrette, with good hummus and warm pita slices), which was very fresh tasting. I was not hungry, so I passed on adding a protein, but they range from chicken to portobello. My wife and her friend had the Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna salad, with napa cabbage, cucumbers, carrots, radish, jicama, spiced peanuts & miso peanut vinaigrette. The tuna normally comes rare, but they accommodated her by bringing it a bit closer to medium. My buddy had the pan seared Airline Chicken (very moist) with mashed potatoes, veg medley, lemon garlic veloute. He must have liked it as it was gone in a flash. We tried ALL the desserts on the menu: flourless chocolate cake, peach cobbler (with caramel ice cream) and the banana pudding jar, and all were excellent. We would go back. Service was friendly, relaxed and pretty quick, although it was not very crowded. SERIOUS WARNING: parking is horrible, terrible and very bad. After circling the block a couple times (no valet at the restaurant), I parked in Standard Pour's valet lot close to McKinney ($7) and made the walk down the block.

Solid drinks and food

By PammyC22 |

Now called State and Allen kitchen+bar. Our server, Drew, was fantastic. Large beer selection plus fun cocktail menu. I had Born on the 4th of July. Vodka, watermelon syrup, lime, mint and soda. It was very refreshing while sitting at outside tables. The F-K steak sandwich, was one of the best hubby has ever had. It was huge! Great potato salad as a side. The blackened fish, on a taco was very good. Big chunks of fish, which you rarely see. The only thing that I didn't like we're the black metal tables on the patio. With the sun shining down on them, they were very hot.

Nice atmosphere!

By Tasha K |

I thoroughly enjoyed this spot! Drinks were good. Pizza was great! They have daily specials and I went when pizza half price! Will definitely visit there again!

Great brunch

Went with my family to brunch here yesterday and had a wonderful time!! Food was great, service was great!! Very casual atmosphere in Uptown. Cool patio outside that is very dog friendly! Food options were plentiful, as were the drinks.
