Best steak experience in Chicago

By munstertravel |

Highly recommend by the concierge, did not disappoint. When you walk in very cool atmosphere, the smell of steaks mouth watering. Our waiter Erik was amazing! We shared shellfish app was great, fried deviled eggs- which were ok. Beet salad was tasty. Spilt a NY strip which they cooked separately, since we like different temperature. Cooked perfectly. Sides were fantastic. Ended with Red Velvet bread pudding was so amazing. Food, atmosphere, service were perfect. Can’t wait to go back. We give it a 9 out of 10.

Great Neighborhood Steak House

By globaljoan |

Loved the asparagus in tempura with sauce. Steak was excellent. Terrific neighborhood gem for a really nice dinner.

When in Chicago

By Sean D |

When in Chicago you gotta eat steak. While at the bar the tender was explaining the butcher’s cut to a couple from Denmark. The ribeye cap of Waygu from Idaho. As legend has it the Kobe strain cows are fed beer given daily massages and listen to John Legend. 12 ounces served on a 500 degree plate. Might be the best steak ever. A heirloom tomato salad. Nothing more.

Great Evening

By fountainChicago |

Food delicious, servers gracious, even courtly. Tried new appetizers, loved the pate. Anxious to return, even if it’s not my birthday.

Not just dinner but an event...One to write home about

By Charles F |

Our group started out the evening with an assortment of crafts beers and an espresso martini for good measure. We moved into the appetizers and after careful consideration we settled on the chef's cut hanging bacon & braised pork belly. Both were great but the bacon is a must have. We took in the many suggestions for entrées and settled in on steaks for all ranging from an off menu Wagyu Butchers Cap, the standard 28 day wet aged Ribeye, and a host of fillets. For sides we went the sharing route that was highlighted by the absolute headliner corn crème brulee. The main course was top shelf and the best meal that we all could of ever hoped for. Dessert & coffee followed and continued the trend of perfection. The only thing that outshined the food was the service. It wasn't the old spectacle of memorization but an actual education and understanding of Steak 48's offerings and culture. Our server Allie was most pleasant and attentive and should be celebrated for her job well done

Unpleasant

By L H |

Experience pretty much ruined by 3 loud & foul-mouthed men (who kept staring at girls across the bar), allowed to continue their obnoxious behavior with not only no interference by staff or management, but actual engagement with the bartender who laughed and joked with them, seemingly unconcerned that their behavior was disruptive/unpleasant to other patrons. Too bad, as the space is nice, and food decent or better; crab avocado appetizer delicious, crispy shrimp ok.

Always a good experience

By Zuly |

Well, this is my 4th time there and I have to say it never disappoints. I apprecaite the choice between a white and black napkin, the steamed eucalyptus towel after dinner and the scorching hot plates to keep our food hot. The service is always great! I especially love the lighting and decor. Perfect for a romantic dinner but also great when you're out with company. We always order every steak on the menu and I must say it's all delicious. The only plate that leaves a lot to be desired is the cream of spinach.

Amazing steak

By McGuinness is good for you |

This restaurant was recommended to us by the Concierge at the Waldorf hotel and we were not misled. Being from England, we do not have the vast array of steaks which are available in the United States, and the vast choice of restaurants. But this one was a cracker, as we English say haha. I think mine was a T-bone, but it was ordered for me by my host, and it was perfection. There was an argument over the bill, which was rather expensive, I thought, but we agreed to split it in the end, so everyone was happy, especially - I hope - the staff with the large tip my friend left haha

Not impressed.

By nrishard |

The venue was beautiful and very upscale. The ambiance was perfect. The steak was average. I ordered the petite filet mignon and it had no flavor. My colleague ordered the bone-in ribeye and it was just okay. In my experience, this is a place where you go for ambiance, but not for a good steak.

Fantastic birthday dinner

By Allen21096 |

We came to Steak 48 for my birthday on a recommendation. We had made reservations, so when we arrived at our time, we were seated almost immediately. The interior decor and ambiance is very nice, and contemporary. We started with the fried deviled egg appetizer which were excellent. I must admit, however, there are also crispy shrimp deviled eggs that are also on the menu, which we will try on our next visit. For our entree, there was a special cut of filet that was expensive and, as it was explained, it is like the best cut of the best cuts. We decided to try that and added two sides and share the meal. The steak was perfectly done and absolutely delicious. The two sides that we chose were the chef brian's au gratin potatoes and the corn creme brulee. The service was impeccable, professional and efficient. The meal was topped off with a little birthday dessert. We'll be back!

Must go to Steak in Chicago

By Nimai Hari |

We decided to randomly grab steaks on a Thursday night - this place came highly recommended so I was extremely excited to give this place a taste. To start off our meal, we went with oysters and the shishito peppers. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the oysters, I thought the shishito peppers were a little too large of a portion for two people (only so many peppers you can eat). They bring out some bread/rolls - the table next to use was offered their preference for bread (we didn't get that opportunity). For a steak, I went with the recommended bone-in filet. The steak came out cooked perfectly - all their steaks are delivered on a searing hot plate at close to 500 degrees. I thought the steak was pretty delicious - one of the best in Chicago. For the sides, we went Brussel sprouts and the whipped potatoes. I thought both tasted pretty good - I felt like I've had better Brussel sprouts at other locations (I would probably not go with this next time).

Long dining time; minimum purchase $100

By Aud E |

Long dining time; minimum purchase required. These are the two negatives. The whole dinner took a little over 3 hours. There is a $100 minimum per guest! Overall the food was delicious. I highly recommend corn brûlée as a side. The asparagus wasn’t bad either. Any dessert you pick you can’t go wrong. They automatically added 18% to our bills as gratuity.

You better be hungry!

By Mav |

A must visit when in Chicago! This restaurant oozes a classy vibe with attentive service and an amazing selection of steak, seafood, salads, wines and other beverages and much more if you can fit it all in. The crispy Shrimp, Fresh Burrata & King crab avocado salad were all super yummy within the appetizers selection. For mains a big selection of steaks, The Australian Wagyu filet was a great cut. We were too stuffed to try any desert as the serving portions for non US visitors is hard to get used to.

Highly Recommended!!! Definitely one of Chicago’s Best.

By HogFan73 |

The atmosphere was amazing. The wait staff was wonderful and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. They helped make recommendations and drinks. The food was no doubt deserves 5 stars! I will definitely be dining here again when I return to Chicago. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting a great steak with all the sides.

Good but Not Great

By Dinger01 |

Went on the recommendation of our concierge. The appetizers were ok, I had the rib eye cap, which was excellent. The sides were frankly mediocre, over salted and my fries were cold. I would have complained but the interval between wait staff visits to the table could be measured in half hour increments. The constant reminder about the minimum is simply gauche and I have never seen that a higher end restaurant. The ambiance was also wanting it reminded me more of a bar, at this price point I frankly expect more. If you are going to spend your steak dollars on a dinner, I would do it somewhere else given the number of choices in this amazing city.

Worth the trip to Chicago.

By br649 |

Great dining experience. Troy Chimielewski, our waiter, was probably the most attentive and knowledgeable waiter we have ever had the privilege to serve us in our 40 years of marriage- a true professional. The steaks were out of this world and the sides complimented well. Recommend Steak 48 without reservation and look forward to returning very soon.

Anniversary

By Becca D |

We were visiting Chicago and looking for a place to celebrate our anniversary. After reading reviews of several places, we decided on Steak 48. The food & service was excellent..as was the bill. 😜 We started with the crispy shrimp which was SO GOOD. Then we had the bone in filet cooked perfectly. Their sides are for sharing. We had brussel sprouts and seafood Mac n cheese. Both weren't bad but we would get something different if we could do it again. They had an anniversary card waiting for us at the table when we arrived and we finished the evening with a complimentary (Delicious!) Dessert. Their service is above and beyond. The website says dress code is strictly enforced but there were guys in there with Tshirts and jeans. Most people were business casual.

Food was amazing except for one thing . . .

By Jackie H |

The service and the food was amazing, the unfortunate thing was that my steak was overdone. I should have sent it back, but the combination of hunger and my innate Canadian politeness meant that I just powered through a slightly tough steak. Wrong choice I know. Shrimp appy, sides and dessert were fabulous. I know if I'd talked to the server they would have made it right. Still, you do go to a steakhouse for the steak. You would hope they get it right the first time.

Decent food , but not welcoming

By Moi123 |

The restaurant decor is quite nice . Food is decent : Steak prepared well , side dishes were OK ( but bread was nothing special ) . Our server was attentive. What was a great disappointment was the “ reception” when we arrived . Not a smile from the hostesses ! not even “ Welcome! “ just rude and stuck up !!! And even tough we were on time for an early reservation, and the restaurant was practically empty , they made us wait for a good 15 minutes for no reason ! Then finally one of them took us to the worst table by the kitchen even tough we walked by perfectly nice available tables ... which we eventually moved to . Will not go back. PS : the dress code is very inconsistent : some people walked in wearing shorts...

Amazing, each and every time

By Ttrraavveleerr |

Steak 48 stands out on a crowded list of great Chicago steakhouses. Every meal here has been perfect - the food, service and ambience are top notch. The bone in ribeye and bone in filet are both excellent choices. The steaks here have great flavor and every side I’ve had have been great as well. Can’t go wrong here, just go!

Delicious cows eat up your money

By YoshiDus |

Very nice dining experience despite the heavy price tag. Service was very attentive (a 20% tip is included automatically) and the dry-aged ribeye steak was excellent. Highly recommend for a special occasion or on company expenses.

Anniversary Night to Remember

By Nora_118 |

My husband surprised me at this amazing place and I can't stop thinking about it! You must ask for "Z" who will take care of you beginning to end! I am still dreaming about the rib eye bone in, au gratin potatoes and cream corn brulee! The maragaritas are generous and delicious! I had the raspberry and my husband the stone fruit! Yum! Z recommended the crispy shrimp as an app and we ordered the larger portion as he suggested to save some for our dinner. We ended with red velvet bread pudding that was out of this world! Thank you, hubby, Z and Steak 48 for celebrating 27 years of bliss! The food and service will not disappoint! I will tell everyone to eat here, locals and out of towners.

Best celebration meal this trip

By wschaplin |

One of the best steak places in Chicago. You can’t go wrong ordering anything on the menu. Truffle French fries, any meat / steak, Brussel sprouts, Mac & cheese. It’s all delicious.

Went mid week for steak dinner.

By gcsdiving |

Went mid week for steak dinner. Ordered the 12 oz fillet. Ordered medium but came slightly under done - closer to med rare. High end steak houses should always hit the temperature spot on. Steak was served on a searing hot plate. People around us were cutting up their steaks and letting the pieces on the plate (maybe to cook more). Odd way of serving meat - but maybe explains bring it to the table slightly under done. Odd. Everything else was good. Caramel cake excellent.

Best Steak In Chicago

By ethan3w |

One of the best experiences I’ve ever had at a steakhouse in downtown Chicago I absolutely love this place and will recommend it to absolutely everyone From the pork belly appetizer to the mouthwatering steak or the awesome whipped loaded baked potatoes. It was all absolutely amazing. Valet parking was a plus because I got a lifted diesel truck and it’s impossible to fit it anywhere

Bustling lively spot

By francesco c |

The inside of the restaurant is classic style. Service is too confusionary and noisy. Waiters move around like workers in a construction company. Music is unadopted to relax. A part of this poor surrounding I would say that the food is very good. We had shrimps, calamari, meat balls and steaks. Everything excellent. So at the end I close an eye on the service...They are forgiven...

Great Service and Food

By Downtown65 |

I have not been here in a year. But, it seems things have not changed. It my was sister and I and the treated us like Queens. But, as I watch service around us. They treat everyone like they have served them before. I just love everything about this place. All the seafood is wonderful and the 9oz wine pours are the best in the city. By the way! I loved my Ribeye, too! I hope to return before another 12 months go by.

Two home runs in one week.

By Kennywoodfans |

Was there midweek with a business group. Magnificent meal. My filet perfect. A highlight was our server Allie K. Top notch. Returned Sat with my husband. Asked for Allie K. She sat us in the kitchen area. Mesmerizing with friendly, warm service and delicious beef.

Awesome as ever !

This place always rocks in every way ! Delicious food , drinks, ambiance, and service beyond compare . There’s a lot of great steak houses in Chicago , but Steak 48 is top of the list . Period.

Great until

By spiderelliot |

Was nice place and great until we told server Julia we were splitting meal..from that moment forward she turned and it went downhill from there. Don’t get me wrong, our split meal was still over $200 Had a late lunch that day and thought we’d have a drink and split something somewhere on our way back to hotel. Most all places around full with long waits but no one here and we walked right in. Great front of house and everyone so nice. Our server started fantastic and we ordered drinks and appetizer. She started going through all the specials and I told her we knew what we wanted but she continued to talk about other items and why the cut of meat we chose might not be best (bone-in Filet). After telling her we were sharing it she shut down and we didn’t see much afterwards. Interactions after were short and rather combative. Overall we enjoyed the meal, took some food to go, and we will never go back. BTW- the tip was automatically added to entire order (alcohol too). I’m good with that but with the way we were treated, I probably wouldn’t have tipped her in the amount they put in my check.

Great restaurant, service and atmosphere

By Kwesi M |

My wife and I went there last night for my birthday. Sat in the outside area. Really pleasant weather for Chicago that the server was particularly happy about. The service was excellent from door to door. The food was absolutely delicious. Crispy shrimp appetizer, bone-in rib eye with butter truffle topping and a couple of other sides. Absolutely delicious with a glass of red and a glass of white wine. It was topped off with a special birthday dessert. Also delicious. I will not share the picture, so you can be surprised if you make it here. This is not the top-rated steakhouse in this part of town, but I can't imagine having a better experience at the others. Do it.

Will return!

By Kechi |

I visited the Chicago location over my birthday. My waiter Walker was great. The dinner rolls were a little underwhelming, the appetizer was great. My steak was cooked perfectly. I had whipped potatoes and Parmesan asparagus for sides. I enjoyed them .

Visited Twice: Possibly Best Steak Ever

By Smudgecats |

Three of us -- retired financial execs -- always celebrated successful investor road trips with a great steak dinner: Manny's in Minneapolis; Peter Lugar, Sparks, or Del Frisco in NYC; Berns in Tampa... We have kept the tradition alive, now that we're retired. Steak 48 ranks among the best ever. Great drinks -- one martini will be plenty. A nice wine list. Fantastic service. And the meat: the Kansas City Strip (bone in) was fantastic! One note: they tend toward the rarer side on steaks, so a medium here is really closer to a medium rare. No problem; just discuss with your server. Elegant space. Vibrant bar scene. Great location near the Mag Mile.

Overpriced Steakhouse

By Tastyfun |

Way overpriced with rules. They had a $100 minimum per person end of the pandemic. Strict dress code. Food is good but we haven't been back since all the rules were in place. They have security at the door which makes you wonder. Too much.....

One of my best Steakhouse Meals

By AJH |

It not only tops in Chicago steakhouses for me but probably one if the best steakhouse experiences (food, service, atmosphere) that I’ve ever had. That’s it in a nutshell!

Anniversary dinner

By mc murphy |

We went for a celebration dinner and we were so impressed with the food, service, and ambiance. Be sure to ask for Douglas if you dine in, he made the experience so much more enjoyable. His recommendations were excellent and we appreciated his attentiveness. Thank you for making our night so memorable!

Steak 48 - Second to None!

By Steven A. |

Since the COVID lockdown, it has been awhile since I dined at Steak 48, and I missed it terribly. There are many average steakhouses in Chicago, but none like Steak 48! The food, service and presentation is consistent every time I dine. It is my favorite Chicago Steakhouse! Keep up the great work Steak 48!!!

Excellent food and great atmosphere

By Gabrielle F |

All of the food was delicious. The wagyu butcher cut was pricey (12 oz for $125), but it was delicious!!! The scalloped potatoes were yummy, and the portion was huge! The fried deviled eggs were so good!

Exceeded my expectations!!!!

By pghcutie72 |

From making the reservation to having the perfect date night meal, this restaurant exceeded my expectations!! My boyfriend and I were having a date night, and I wanted to surprise him because he said he was craving a good ribeye steak. I watched reviews on TikTok, and I knew that I had picked the perfect place. The ambiance was very romantic and cozy. Our server was Julia, and she was a sweetheart!! The best service I ever received at a restaurant. When I made my reservation, I made a note that I hoped they were going to have the rack of lamb. She informed me that they did indeed have it. I was so excited!! I have an onion allergy, and Julia informed me of everything that had onions in it. I really appreciated that. We had appetizers. I had the crispy shrimp deviled eggs, and my boyfriend had the crispy shrimp & calamari. Both were delicious. I had the rack of lamb with the sweet potatoes & the corn creme brulee. My boyfriend had the 45-day aged bone in ribeye steak with the mac & cheese. We both agreed that the food was the best we had at a restaurant in a long time. We got dessert to go. He had the chocolate cake, which was out of this world. I had the red velvet bread pudding. Sadly, I didn't care for it. I should have picked the key lime tart. Will we go back, most definitely!!!! Thank you, Steak 48 for making our date night so perfect!!!!

Exceptional Visit

By trkr6468 |

My wife and I, along with 2 other couples, enjoyed an amazing dinner at Steak 48 this past weekend. This was our first visit to a restaurant in several months and the team there did a wonderful job of maintaining a safe environment while ensuring the experience remained exceptional. I have included several pictures to help capture the evening. Before I get into anything else, I want to first acknowledge the staff at the restaurant. Every aspect of our experience was professional and top notch. Specifically, our head server, Wayne, was personally responsible for ensuring everyone had a wonderful evening. He was courteous and attentive, but never intrusive. My wife and I have dined here several times before, but this was the first visit for the other two couples. For those interested in dining here, or for that matter, most of the higher end restaurants in Chicago, you will need a reservation and we typically make our 45-60 days in advance to ensure we can get a table. There is a clear dress code that is well enforced, and I would encourage everyone to make sure you understand before being surprised upon arrival. Additionally, while everyone has their own preference, I would strongly recommend that you consider trying more than just an entrée and an appetizer. While this will likely move your bill well over 100 per person, not doing so, in my opinion, will limit your overall experience. Just something to think about when making plans. We arrived about 30 minutes early for our reservation, as we wanted to have a drink before dinner. However, due to concerns with social distancing, etc, they recommended that we just go ahead and proceed to our table to help manage customer interactions with each other. This worked out very well as we were in a small alcove with our table for six and the other two tables in the area not being used while we were there. The valet parking, which is $16 for three hours is impossible to beat in the city and a great convenience. As I mentioned before, we started with drinks and some of the bread to snack on. We started with a mix of cold seafood (picture included, which included crab, shrimp, and oyster as well as the pork belly. All were excellent and a big thanks to our waiter for the recommendations on portions, etc. We ordered both a red and white wine for dinner as there was a mix of steak and seafood. When ordering your entrees, don’t limit yourself to what is on the menu. When asked about a recommendation on sea bass vs scallops, the waiter offered to just add a couple of scallops to the sea bass which worked out perfect. Everything is a la carte and for entrees we had the bone-in filet with black truffle green peppercorn sauce (the sauce was to die for), chilean sea bass and scallops which was melt in your mouth delicious, bone-in filet with crispy shrimp, ahi tuna, bone-in NY strip, and bone-in ribeye Oscar style. Everything was excellent, the steaks, which ranged from rare to medium, were all cooked perfectly, and the seafood again was excellent. I would highly recommend any of the bone-in filets, or in the off chance they have the waygu ribeye end-cap, you should consider splurging a bit, as it is an amazing experience. For sides, we had the crab and shrimp mashed potatoes, potatoes au-gratin, crème brulet crème corn, asparagus, and mac-n-cheese. Five sides for six people was more than enough and were a wonderful complement to the entrees. We agree to do dessert family style and it included vanilla caramel cake, s’mores jar, very chocolate cake, key lime pie, red velvet bread pudding, chocolate peanut butter milkshake, the triple chocolate bomb, and the beignets. While all the desserts were amazing, the beignets, the caramel cake, and the triple chocolate bomb were the top rated by the table.

NO UNDERSTANDING OF ALLERGIES

By robert C |

We went there to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We used to go there about 4 times a year. Never again. I had a dairy allergy and told the gentleman several times and he still brought my food with dairy. His response was in case somebody wants to share. the steaks were inedible and we send back. The replacements were delicious. We had dirty appetizer plates and salad on our table for 30 minutes. The GM called a few days later and was so apologetic and offered to send us gift cards. We are yet to receive. There are plenty of delicious and elegant steak houses in Chicago to go there. Cross this one off your list.

Best. Steakhouse. Ever.

By Ben W |

We visited here in late August. There were six of us. I must say it was a stellar experience. Having been to all 50 states and 59 countries, this is the best steakhouse ever. Some incredible stand outs are the lobster appetizer fried like chicken, All of the steaks, but most especially the New York strip. That was the best one of my life. My friends absolutely loved the pork chops. And at least four of us said those were the best ever. Make sure to ask for the Bernaisse sauce. It is the best ever as well. The only slight miss were the deep fried deviled eggs. They were fine, but not exceptional. You could pass on them and be fine. Our host for the evening was Deena. You can tell that she is a person that truly loves her job. She treated us like kings and queens. I cannot think of a better person in a restaurant anywhere. Desserts were phenomenal. The red velvet cake bread pudding was unbelievably good. The Keylime pie was passable, but it is the least of all the wondrous things on the dessert menu. We got two bottles of the Boxer Shiraz from Mollydooker; delicious and it was reasonably priced. We feasted like magnates and it was still only $300 a couple for everything. I give this my highest recommendation. One of my top five meals ever.

Fabulous

Great steak and whilst a little pricey compared to UK prices was a gorgeous meal and a nice wtmosphere

Go for the steaks. Avoid the Iberico chop until they are able to do it properly.

By DrGeis |

So, this is probably going to be a somewhat lengthy review, but with just a couple of take-home points My last night in town here, in Chicago for a business meeting. Ate solo at the bar. I am not a wine drinker, but I like my IPAs, and they had just a few, but very good ones. Stone IPA. Bells Two Hearted. And the superb (local) Goose Island “Matilda“ Belgian ale. My reason for coming here was that they offered on their menu an Iberico double pork chop. Iberico pork is kind of like the Wagyu beef of pork, and is amongst the very best and most unusually flavorful pieces of meat you might ever eat. I requested that the bar servers there (Scott and Martín - both extremely attentive, and highly professional) request the chef to present the chops cooked rare or medium rare. They both came back explaining that this was not within the realm of possibility, due to some stipulations that perhaps date back to the 1950s, when trichinosis was actually a thing. Somewhat reluctantly, I went ahead and ordered the chop, which came out with virtually no pink…for the most part medium well…rendering this beautiful cut really no better than any other pork chop I might have eaten anywhere else. I am not, (maybe I am) a super fussy diner, but the manager on duty that evening - Evan - came over to inquire. We spent a few minutes talking and ultimately he offered to send a new cut my way. I deferred, not wanting them to potentially eat the price of two entrées. But ultimately the meal was somewhat disappointing. Offering a cut of meat of this caliber comes with the requirement that it is able to be cooked properly. Overcooking, by force, this particular cut, negates its unique characteristics, and renders it to the realm of lesser quality meets. It is clear from the attention received that this is not the desire of the establishment. Nor do they clearly want to have a patron leave feeling that the side-ordered french fries were the best part of the meal. I will come back, next time I am in Chicago, but I think that they need to reconsider some systemic changes as to how they cook this particular cut. Every piece of beef they offer is available to be served rare, medium, rare, etc. The Iberico pork chop should not be excluded…

Great dining experience!

By southernbelle68 |

Had a fantastic meal here from start to finish. Roasted beet salad and Chilean sea bass were delicious. And the desert! A warm vanilla cake with vanilla gelato. One of the best desserts I have ever eaten. The only warning is that the lighting is very dim which makes the menu difficult to read and it's loud so it can be difficult to hear the servers. An overall A+ dining experience. I would definitely go back.

Sad

By Jason R |

The night has fallen. Once the best steakhouse in the city. Not any more. Medicare arrive. Managers very poor customer service. Don’t care about customers. Still a decent meal but not amazing as it once was. Disappointed and sad.

Excellent food and wonderful service

By Chiili |

A beautiful place with the best steaks. Prices are expensive but worth it. We were seated in a glass both next to the display kitchen. Best seat in the house. Try all the sides. Really good. Wine list is pretty extensive.

Exceptional Experience

By FhayzeB |

One word to describe this dining experience: Exceptional! What an absolutely remarkable experience we had at Steak 48. We initially made this reservation in March of 2020 for May 23, 2020, and then COVID closed down Chicago! We tried again almost a year later but the Delta and Omicron variants caused spikes so we were delayed again. Finally, almost two years to the day, dinner with my dearest male and female friends and our spouses. I am so glad we selected and stayed with Steak 48! A wide variety of high-quality wines, but I highly recommend the Silver Oaks Cabernet if available. I asked for a bottle in the notes of my reservation and voila — it was served! For those who’d prefer something a bit lighter and sweeter, Erioca Riesling was a hit with a few of the ladies at our table. Outstanding cocktail offerings and great scotch — we enjoyed the Blue Label! THE FOOD! Delicious Appetizers: Pork Belly perfectly prepared with a crispy exterior and melt in our mouth quality without being unctuous. A wonderfully balanced sweet/spicy Thai chili sauce and sautéed spinach accompaniment. Crispy Shrimp with garlic aioli and the same delicious Thai chili sauce. Rhode Island Calamari & Shrimp represented a most unique offering of the traditional fried calamari. The batter was somewhat heavier than normal and well seasoned-not a pejorative comment as they were fried to perfection! The cherry peppers were a wonderful addition to this dish. Hawaiian (Salmon) Poke off the Raw Bar served with cucumber, Thai chili and togarashi sauce. So I didn’t actually get to taste this dish because someone didn’t share 😆 but it looked great! The star of the appetizers came off the Raw Bar — Iced Alaskan King Crab Legs served with a balanced in-house cocktail sauce, drawn butter, a special mustard sauce and “atomic” horseradish (not nearly as spicy as it sounds). Common vernacular—“To die for folks!” Entrées I had the 8oz Australian Waygu Filet with a similarly sized lobster tail and skipped the myriad of toppings because history taught me none were required. As expected - PERFECTION! I also tried my wife’s Shetland Island Salmon which I would highly recommend even in a premier Chicago steakhouse. (FYI don’t hesitate to order the bone in ribeye—I almost asked my friend for a bite it looked like it was melting tender). I also didn’t try the New Bedford Sea Scallops but I can tell you from past experience the scallops are exceptional. As with the appetizers, we shared the sides. The star was the Corn Crème Brûlée and it is a MUST HAVE if you dine at Steak 48–a must have! The creamed spinach, Brussels Sprouts, and even the Fries (ah these aren’t your normal fries—truffle oil & shaved Parmesan class this offering up a notch😉) were all absolutely delectable! Though we didn’t order dessert, our table was sent a tree full of beignets — I wish I had taken a picture of it — with chocolate and vanilla dipping sauces, and we were also sent the “ Ultimate” a warm vanilla caramel cake with vanilla ice cream whipped cream and toasted brown sugar pecans. Deliciously decadent desserts! The absolute best part of the evening was the company! Thanks to Steak 48 for providing a wonderful venue for a memorable gathering! We’ll be back! Special compliments to the General Manager, Joe Taylor, for his tremendous assistance with unique special exigent accommodations that were required, and to one of the best head servers I have ever had, Melissa—perfectly attentive but not overly intrusive and patient! Thank you both for making this such an outstanding and memorable dining experience!

Best Steakhouse and Seafood in Chicago!

I frequent Steak 48 often as it is without a doubt my favorite Steakhouse and Seafood restaurant in Chicago. The atmosphere, the food and the service are consistently excellent. I have not had one negative experience and always find myself looking forward to going back and enjoying another delicious meal. The staff are exceptionally friendly, engaging, and professional and adds to the overall experience. Word of advice - always leave room for some out of this world desserts! It is my go-to when I want what I want, which is usually a savory and delicious tender steak and topped off with one of their many mouth-watering desserts!

Unbelievable!

By Ghostrider73 |

Wow! Talk about top shelf! Food, Staff, Service! Unbelievable! We came here and had one of the best meals! I don't know where to begin.. the staff were above expectations! Sarah was our waitress and was on point, professional, and anticipated our every want! She by far was a standout in an exemplary team. The food was cooked to perfection and was tasty beyond words. When in Chicago we will be back!

Birthday Bust

By xxivkt |

Made a reservation to celebrate wife's birthday a month in advance, this was our fourth time at this establishment, when we arrived , at 6:30 was told that all the booths were taken. Was seated at a roomy comfortable banquette in the bar area, very loud music and flat screen TV. I had to tamper down our server, Wayne,as he is clearly inexperienced and in a hurry to turn the table. Tried not to let my wife know how disappointed I was. This was our go-to for special occasions. I need to rethink whether we should return there. Was disappointed that the floor manager did not come over to apologize after we sent the calamari back or even to say hello. I hope this is not a sign of poor training or indifference on the part Steak 48

Steak 48 -- THE BEST!

By FhayzeB |

From start to finish, Steak 48 delivered an exceptional dining experience that hit all the right notes of indulgence, precision, and bold flavor. But before I describe an unforgettable meal, I want to begin by thanking the new GM Jennifer Seitaj for accommodating my request for a private dining booth in the back (pictured), the manager Kris Petrov for the tremendous on-site customer service, and of course my waiter Vincent who ALWAYS provides exceptional service-- appropriately attentive without being overbearing. Having arrived early we started in the warm and friendly bar area -- vibrant but not loud -- and enjoyed a delicious glass of Croggy Range "Te Muna Rd" Sauvignon Blanc (24 Marl, NZ). When seated knowing we'd have steaks at Chicago's premier steakhouse restaurant I ordered a bottle of an exceptional and reasonably priced Cabernet Sauvignon - The Calling ('20 Alexander Valley, CA) $94, a bold, well-structured full bodied wine with a long, elegant finish and balance. Sourced from Sonoma's renowned Alexander Valley - A classic expression of a California Cabernet. Steak 48 Food -- THE BEST! Appetizers set the tone beautifully. The crispy shrimp--tossed in a sweet Thai chili glaze and paired with a garlic aioli--was the perfect mix of sweet heat and creamy richness. The standout starter, however, was the chicken fried lobster tails. Served three to an order, these were a decadent treat: crisp on the outside with tender lobster inside, seasoned with Chesapeake Bay spices and complemented by a green chili aioli that added just the right kick. Worth every penny. For the main course, the steaks were grilled to perfection. The New York Strip arrived flawlessly medium rare, with a gorgeous sear and juicy, robust flavor. The filet mignon, also medium rare, was equally impressive--tender, buttery, and full of depth. The sautéed spinach side with sea salt and Parmesan was a simple yet elegant pairing, offering a garlicky, savory counterpoint to the rich meats. Dessert was no afterthought. The "Ultimate" Vanilla Caramel Cake lives up to its name--layers of moist cake, vanilla gelato, and airy whipped cream, topped with homemade toasted brown sugar cinnamon pecans for the perfect crunch. The red velvet bread pudding was equally show-stopping, melting together warm cake, vanilla gelato, sweet cream cheese, and white chocolate into a luscious finale. Every dish reflected thoughtful preparation and premium ingredients. Steak 48 nails the upscale steakhouse experience--bold, flavorful, and totally satisfying.

Really great food. Price is on the high side but worth it. Atmosphere is very nice and the staff was very helpful as well. Will go back.

Very Expensive restaurant for simple food

The food is so expensive except for drinks in the bar. Staffs are so entertaining. Place is very elegant and classy. Price is super high. Food quality is just average nothing special.

Outstanding Restaurant

By Suzette De Salvo |

The ambiance, meal, service and hospitality were all amazing. Sat in one of the glass enclosed booths facing the kitchen and truly enjoyed it. Also, the manager, Kevin who assisted us with outstanding. Bravo to Steak 48 for being a wonderful venue and employing an excellent Team!

Amazing place

By Tracey A |

We booked here for my husbands 50th birthday visiting from the UK & we were not disappointed. Our table was romantic & private with views directly into the kitchen. Everything about this place was perfect & the service is exceptional, although we had a few servers at various points our main server Clare was lovely & helpful. Steaks & everything with them were cooked to perfection. One of the best places weve ever been to. Im just upset we wont get to go there again as we were on holiday!

Once in a Lifetime...

By John S |

Once in a lifetime... you meet somebody that you want to spend the rest of your life with. And she says yes. Once in a lifetime... you go to a restaurant and have the best experience ever. Once in a lifetime... you get to experience that restaurant with the person that said yes, and a group of friends that are just amazing. Quick back story. My wife and I were celebrating our 13th wedding anniversary. Our friends (Mark and Deena) were kind enough to agree to join us, and actually select the restaurant. I said I wanted to have a great steak in Chicago. They did the rest. Wow - amazing place Mark picked, and just a great overall experience. Mark called ahead and had the restaurant get us a great table, and just made the whole evening unforgettable! So first of all, if you're just stopping in for a meal here, trust me this place is great. The food was outSTANDING. I had the Kansas City Strip. My favorite cut of steak is a New York Strip. But our server Jake (more on him later) recommended the bone in Kansas City Strip, and I was glad I took him up on that offer. Bone in Kansas City Strip is just like the NY Strip (only it has a bone in it). Delish!! Best steak I've ever had to date. I've had many that were right there. But this by far is number 1. My wife had the salmon, and she said it was fabulous. Mark had the NY Strip, and Deena had the scallops. They said their meals were incredible. We also ordered the loaded baked potato, the spinach, and the corn. All sides are share-able, so keep that in mind as you order. Your server will likely inform you of that. Bottom line, our food was absolutely amazing. If we never saw or talked to anyone, and we were only given the plates of food, we would have been COMPLETELY satisfied. But the service and overall dining experience made the difference. Let's first talk about our server Jake. Again... once in a lifetime, you encounter a server who is just above and beyond the rest. We've never met Jake before that night. We have no idea of what he wants to do in his life. One of the things we learned about him is that he is from Virginia. We also learned that he was a history buff. He actually had some interesting history to provide us on the bottle of wine we selected. He was great, and just an incredible person. He took care of us while we dined, and we were so thankful for him. Jake has the personality and skill set that he could do really anything in life that he wants, especially if it involves dealing with people. Honestly, whatever he wants to do in life, he could do it. He was just absolutely legend... wait for it... dairy. He was legendary. But we were the fortunate ones, as Jake decided to be a server at a great restaurant in downtown Chicago. And he took care of us that night. I have always felt fortunate for the things I have in life, and never really focused on other people's fortunes or fame. But it was that night that I wished I were a wealthy athlete, movie star, or somebody that could have left Jake a tip that would have changed his life. Because that's how good he was. He just made the night spectacular. I'm sure that the Steak 48 restaurant in Chicago has a plethora of servers that are spectacular. But that night we got Jake, and he was fee... nom.. a.. nal... Phenomenal! The supporting staff was equally fabulous. The hostess (actually hostesses... as there were several) were so friendly and accommodating. The people that filled our water, that brought food, that took care of all the things we needed while we dined. They were all just great. Even if they were all just doing there job (to pay their bills like most of us do), and they really didn't want to be there, and they were just faking being friendly and happy... you would never know it. They were all just amazing, efficient, and spectacular. If I owned that restaurant, and could have somebody (such as myself) compare them to other places, I would want to reward my team. I mean, they just did a completely awesome job. You just don't see that... where everyone does a great job, and treats their clients/customers with such politeness, compassion and efficiency all at once. Again.... once in a lifetime. They actually gave us a card, wishing us a happy anniversary! How amazing was that. Unbelievable. And a gluten free treat... with Happy Anniversary written on the plate... WOW! And to add just a touch more... we were seated such that we could see the entire kitchen. A great seat. Although we didn't meet or talk to the executive chef.... he acknowledged us, and displayed his great personality that showed he really was having a great time in the kitchen. He seemed to love being there, and he seemed to care about the food he was serving. He had a sense of humor that I'm sure we'd all love to get to know. I'm guessing that the team back there works together well. Watching them work was amazing. Like a well oiled machine, they just knew what had to be done and they did it. Although they were putting out plate after plate of food, nobody seemed rushed or crowded or out of place. Just a great kitchen with great people doing a great thing... feeding people that wanted to dine out that night. So in closing... I'll end with what I started with. Once in a life time, all of the planets align, and you have the greatest dining experience ever... at the greatest restaurant you've ever visited (that went above and beyond with everything)... with the greatest spouse a person could ever ask for... with the greatest friends that you could imagine... with the greatest server that could do whatever he wants in life.... (thanks Jake!)... to receive the greatest meal you've ever had. Will I go back? Absolutely. Do I recommend that you should go there as well? Without a doubt... you will be amazed. Life is short. Put this place on your bucket list. You will not regret it.

Sensational food

By Douglas |

Fantastic food from beginning to end. The super food salad was the best I've ever eaten. The Ny strip perfectly roasted and accompanying a brulle corn cream and a sensational puré!

Food Great

By Kasandra S |

We shared the ribeye steak, salad, asparagus and potatoes. Food was delicious, a bit expensive it was $18 for a glass of wine. The setup I would have liked to have been a little more cozier given the celebration in stead of sitting across the table.

Initial disappointment but good

By Gio R |

Made a booking for 8:15Pm and when arrived we had to wait, after soliciting, more than another 20 minutes before getting it. The two ladies and the man at the desk were avoiding eye contact during the wait to avoid giving at least an apology for the wait. Eventually when we finally got the table had to wait another 20 minutes before a waitress came to us. The food was definitely good, and after the initial disappointment the waitress was very helpful and efficient. At one point the Manager came to us to apologize for the wait and saying that they did not expect so many customers due to "conventions" and the customers were late in leaving the tables. Personally speaking, even though the apology was accepted, this is not a good way to run a high end restaurant. If there is a limit in handling tables, just accept less reservations, but I understand that business is business. Eventually the Manager took off the bill our bottle of wine as a gesture of kindness.

Great steak restaurant

By Mitch B |

Ordered an appetizer of the bacon, main course was a daily special steak with sides of corn and sweet potatoes. Everything was excellent and cooked perfectly. Our server, Walker, was excellent and full of knowledge on the items on the menu and very personable. Portion sizes are quite large and I was unable to eat everything. Truly a great restaurant for a night out.

A fabulous meal that will definitely impress

By KimaT |

One of the top 5 best meals I’ve ever had. We had no idea what to expect and were pleasantly surprised by every aspect of the meal. The chilled Jumbo shrimp were the largest I’ve ever seen. The king crab legs were perfectly split and generous in size, the flavor was spectacular. The creme brûlée corn was the most delicious corn side I’ve ever had. Whipped potatoes, delicious. The 500 degree plate kept our meal heat throughout our entire meal. Then the butter cake was oh so wonderful!!! The service was top notch.

Steak 48 Worst Experience EVER

By TravelBabe |

While downtown for a weekend to celebrate my husbands birthday we decided to try this restaurant after hearing how amazing it is. It's not. First the so called strict dress code they have simply doesn't exist. People in gym shoes, jeans, hats all over the restaurant. If they actually turn someone away they may end up with a discrimination suit on their hands. Our waiter was attentive for the most part in the beginning. The complimentary bread was undercooked, chewy, & flavorless dough. We started with oysters then ordered steak and other food. This is where our experience went downhill. The 18oz bone in filet was charred on the outside and raw on the inside, not medium rare plus as requested. We waited and waited and waited, our waiter never checked in. Finally I asked another waiter to help us. This same cold steak was then brought back to us after an attempt to cook it further. The steak was now burnt on the outside and smelled of burnt butter. Actually the entire restaurant just smells of burnt butter. This tactic may have worked if they took it back right away but not after it sat for 10+ minutes. My husband tried to cut it and eat a couple of pieces, it was simply inedible. The table across from us was also celebrating a birthday, I offered to take a picture of them while my husband went to the restroom. I turn back around and our entire table was cleared. Drinks food everything. I sat back down and waited, again no one came. Finally I was able to let the waiter know we weren't done yet our table fully cleared and asked for a manager. Sides that hadn't been touched were taken, the steak was on the plate just cut up and unfinished drinks were sitting there. Not to mention my bag and coat on a chair that should've been a clue the table was occupied in addition to the person (me) standing near it. The first manager whose name I did not catch (has short black hair and haphazardly applied red matte lipstick) was abrasive, didn't care and in a round about way insinuating we wanted it all for free. She shoved a bill at us and said here I took the steak off. I said ok what about the unfinished food and drinks. She stated the waited told her we finished everything. I was stunned this is a birthday weekend, we didn’t get to finish a dinner out and we certainly have no issues paying for a meal but not when you don't take care of us and take the food away without a care in the world or any attempt to make it right. Another manager came up, she told him I'm not dealing with this and stormed off. Wow! As frequent diners of Maple & Ash, RPM and numerous other well known restaurants we have never experienced such terrible rude and offensive service as we did last night. Thanks for ruining a night on the town during our weekend without the kids.

YOU HAVE TO EXPERIENCE THIS

By tammy c |

I will not lie.. my husband and I have traveled and had many magnificent meals but this… this is the BEST we have ever had! We normally visit Chicago every year in March! This year we decided to invite our kids! We could not wait to show them the best steakhouse ever! The minute we walked in, they were impressed! Hostess, bartenders, wait staff (special shout-out to Carlin) cooks, servers! Hands down.. very knowledgeable, walked us through the menu, timed perfectly! And when we thought we could not eat another bite… my daughters birthday plate came and then my husbands and my anniversary surprise! And they gave us each a personalized card for our special days!!! I will tell you 200% to visit this amazing place!!

One word: Disappointment

By Ty A |

Unfortunately our experience at Steak-48, was not quite what we expected it to be. First, when we called in to inform the hostess that we were going to be late, we could barely hear her. Moreover, we stressed to her how IMPORTANT it was that we get seated in a booth. The hostess gave us a big runaround and eventually hung up the phone (I kid you not)! Her name was Anne. When we arrived, we noticed our party who had already arrived was not only seated at a regular table, but also near the kitchen where it was very loud and noisy! Fast forward to our waiter who was so pushy, I literally had to tell him several times to wait and give us a few minutes to figure out our food orders! LITERALLY he tried to take our food orders two minutes after we sat down! I had to tell him the second time “I think we should order our drinks first, right?” He then showed a agitated look on his face. Wasn’t a mean or rude guy, per se. However, just didn’t do a good job with reading the table! Even worse, after we finished our appetisers and the kitchen packed it up, one of the kitchen staff members SLAMMED it down in front of me and stormed off!! First off, it scared the you-know-what out of me. Second of all, he did it not once, twice but three times! Second time was after the entrées and the third was after dessert. There we even moments when we tried to ask for things and the same guy LITERALLY threw his finger his finger up and turned his back as to say “hold on.” Lastly, the overall the food was good, but although we ordered the steak medium, it was more medium well to well done. All and all, they are welcome to reach out to remedy the situation, but I’m not sure if I would recommend Steak-48 to anyone.

Delicious food and knowledgeable staff, but...

By CriddyRN |

The food was out of this world. We had a working dinner, and the wine recs were stellar, as well as the custom-built seafood towers. Unfortunately, because we dined in a private room, we had a hefty minimum to meet, and despite eating like gluttons, we fell short of our minimum. It happens. The issue occured when the waitstaff/management deferred to the ONE male at the table, despite the female (CEO) clearly being the one "at the head of the table" and who was making the majority of the menu decisions. Misogyny at it's finest. Other than that, the food and wine were top notch. The corn brulee, creamed spinach, and scallops were out of this world! As were the beignets!

I LOVE THIS PLACE! One of Chicago’s BEST Steak Houses.

By FhayzeB |

One of my absolute favorite restaurants in Chicago is Steak 48. My most recent business dinner was a demonstration in validation of my selection of this establishment as one of Chicago’s BEST steak houses. From the moment I arrived and was greeted by a friendly, courteous, and accommodating young man named Jeffery, to the generous but not overbearing attention provided by our outstanding waiter Vincent, to the tableside visit by the Manager Katrina Johnson (and the follow-up call from the General Manager Joe Taylor to make certain everything went well), the SERVICE was second to none anywhere I have ever dined! However, do not be mistaken by my starting with the outstanding service—THE MEALS WAS EQUALLY DESERVING OF HIGH PRAISE! Two Starters/Appetizers: Chicken Fried Lobster Tails: Generously proportioned split lobster tails deep fried in a light batter which resulted in a crispy finish which sealed in the moist lobster meat. The dish was prepared with Chesapeake Bay seasoning and served with a delicious green chili aioli. Clearly this should not be an appetizer as it could easily have fed one person as an entrée. Plan to share this dish so you have room for the rest of your meal. Chef's Daily Selection of Fresh Oysters: Either East Coast or West Coast offerings served with a perfectly in-house prepared champagne mignonette sauce at a reasonable medium size (MP $4 each this day). I had three of each and wished I had ordered a half-dozed East & West – wow were they good! Entrees & Sides: Maryland Style Lump Crab Cakes prepared with jumbo lump crab meat, Old Bay seasoning, and finished in buttered breadcrumbs were PERFECT! The Roasted Brussels Sprouts were seasoned well and finished with sea salt and hardwood smoked bacon. The menu appropriately states: “Get these!” The dish you absolutely MUST try whenever you dine at Steak 48 in Chicago is the Corn Crème Brûlée prepared with tender sweet corn, a scintillating cream and turbinado sugar, with a flambé styled ceramic glaze finish; THIS IS “DIE FOR” DELICIOUS! The Desserts: Strawberry Gelato and the very decadent “Ultimate Vanilla Caramel Cake” served with vanilla gelato, pecans, whipped cream and toasted brown sugar cinnamon pecans, could not be finished but if I could have taken a to go box, I would have; that good. After dinner Cappuccino with Baileys and Chocolate Martinis were also delicious! I skipped the fact that the before dinner cocktail was fantastic, and the Goth Sauvignon Blanc a perfectly fruity bouquet aromatic wine to accompany the light dinner fare we selected. I LOVE THIS PLACE!

Walker the waiter ❤️

By Alicia L |

We had the best experience at State 48. We were visiting from out of town from Mississippi and New Orleans. We had the best waiter. His name was Walker. We travel all over and love fine dining, but this was definitely one of our best experiences because of Walker. if you happen to be in Chicago, I’d definitely recommend going to Steak 48 and ask for Walker !!!

Classy, tasty, fast

By Joona S |

Wow from the interior design to service and food - this steakhouse is absolutely beautiful. They really are working to earn their tips (included in the bill) as I had probably 5 or more contacts with different employees during a dinner service. In addition, despite being Friday dinner service, from sit down to the food took maybe 20min or even less. If there is anything to complain, then the music that played did not match with the place - would expect something more posh than the girl bands played.

My favorite steak place in Chicago.

By Jim F |

I have lived in Chicago, and I enjoy a good steak which is easy to find here, but this place blew me away when I first went last year. The staff is incredibly attentive, from the time you check in, at the bar, and the wait staff. At the bar, they make a heck of a martini, but beware because it is not a little drink. The bread, the steaks, the sweet corn creme brulee are all fantastic and the steak comes out on a plate at 500 degrees. I should mention it is a very sharply decorated and comfortable space as well. You cannot go wrong here.

Great food great service

By Cleo N |

Great food on both steaks and seafood. Nice ambience especially the booth area, it’s private and divided by the glass panel. Staff are great. They also sell tomahawk steak which is not on the menu but you can ask, beware it’s a lot of food if you order it. We had to take ours home. Great dessert selection too. Highly recommend!

Great evening

By Craig D |

We were fortunate to get our waiter from the past visit Doug who made the evening outstanding. We choose several great wines from their extensive list. Many of us had the bone in filet and the bone in strip. They were cooked to perfection. I think one of the things we enjoy about his steakhouse are the multiple rooms to dine in. Each offer a different atmosphere

Delicious start to finish

By Serendipity1701 |

Bar was very nice so we didn’t even make it to the table. Generous pours on the wine, bartender knew what a glass of wine means:) Food was very good just had appetizers the pork belly and burrata, both very good. Finally made it to dessert which bartender recommended the Warm Vanilla Caramel Cake, very sweet but oh so good. Great way to end the night.

Steak 48 - superb dining

By Amy B |

Despite the fact that we did not have reservations, we hoped for a seat at the bar, and after a little confusion with the hostess, we worked our way to the bar. The bartenders were extremely hospitable and helpful with all of our selections. I had a fabulous martini, and my husband had a glass of red. Although he prefers his red at room temp, this was served chilled, so it took a little getting used to. We skipped the apps because we shared a small skillet of the most delicious rolls we ever tasted. Our filets were prepared perfectly, and we shared a side of au gratin potatoes. We capped off the meal with the most decadent and delicious red velvet bread pudding. Oh my goodness! A heavenly meal! Well done, Steak 48 Chicago!

Wonderful Food

By Rose |

I was sold on Steak 48 when we lived in Houston. We wanted to try the original steakhouse. The food and quantity was not a disappointment. I have to admit I like Steak 48 in Houston better and was quite fond of the manager, Chris. The beet salad is wonderful. My steak sadly was too rare and the waiter stated it would cook on the plate. I was a bit taken aback by his comment considering the cost of dining. There was no offer of preparing another. I agree sending it back, which I didn't do, would have ruined the steak. The drinks are quite expensive. Perhaps a different waiter would have made the experience better. It is excellent food however. There is no shortcut in providing the best.

Not worth it

By Robert K |

We had a filet mignon and a new york strip and they were definitely not the best stake. Very tough / shoe leathery. In addition it was not seasoned at all. For a price of over $60 not worth it. None of the service staff was wearing face masks.

Memorable Steak Dinner in Chicago

By Bosley628 |

We loved our dinner at Steak 48 last night. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about food preparation and choices not to be missed. He was so right. Our bone in rib eye was cooked perfectly and the seasoning was what a steak should be. The augratin potatoes were huge and so cheesy. It looked like a huge brick of cheesy delight that was plenty to share. The corn brûlée was equally as good. My beet salad, and the Caesar salad were both delicious. My cappuccino was made perfectly. Our dessert was a yellow cake infused with candied pecans and gelato. It was a perfect dinner!

HIGH PRICES AND RUDENESS

By Daniela |

Nice place but too dark, with smoke that bothers you and forces you to take your clothes to the dry cleaners. At the reception were three very young boys who were not up to the task and were rude. Waitress at the table unpolite and insistent. The food is absolutely not worth the asking price. On the steak (99 dollars) a kind of molasses that makes the meat sweetish and not at all good, raw baked potato without salt. Undrinkable coffee. Unreasonable prices. There are dozens of better places nearby.

We were let down

By Jean C. Taveras |

Visited this restaurant after it was recommended by many. Unfortunately, our experience was just not what we expected. My brother and I booked a table to try their steaks and thanksgiving dinner. A common theme across all menu items was how dry everything was. Dry bread, dry meat balls, dry steak, dry turkey. We ate the meal because we had not eaten all day and made no fuss since we knew they were busy. Fernanda’s service was exceptional but the food was a let down. We truly appreciate the way Fernanda explained everything and was attentive throughout. It is also unfortunate that no manager or supervisor ever checked on our table. We saw them walking around but nobody near us had their table “touched” by a manager to inquire how everything was going. Also, a rare complaint but this restaurant’s ambiance does not match what they advertise at ALL. The music was rock or country… in a place where they are charging $300 for steaks. Dress code? Forget about it. We had button down shirts and oxford dress shoes. We saw people wearing pajama pants in sneakers, plaid galore and only a few families with sports coats and nice dresses. So far, Maple & Ash remains on top. Maple & Ash delivers luxury on a plate. RPM has moody 007 vibes and fantastic food. Steak 48 left us, unamused. I hope the management team reevaluates things.

Excellent service and great steak dinner

By Sandy C |

We were guests of a friend who raves about this restaurant and invited us to join them. From the moment we were seated, we were given the most attentive service. The food was wonderful and perfectly prepared. We have different cuts of steak and shared the sweet corn, whipped potatoes and brussel sprouts. The key lime pie was delicious.

Meh.. Way Better Steakhouses to Visit in Chicago

By Lenny C |

Nothing about the experience stood out as above average here, and we visited this before they added the $100 minimum per person. Wow, they are not this good to require this. We came for a birthday celebration , so we had at least 6-8 people. The person who took our orders seemed very inexperienced or almost indifferent, hard to tell which. We asked that he put our tickets separate for each couple. He promised that he would with no problem, when the check came, everything was lumped together, which made for a longer than necessary time to settle our bill. The quality of my steak, a NY. Strip, was nothing special. In fact I have made better ones on the grill. One of our party's steak came out cold and undercooked. They brought another steak order out, and they put it in front of him. The steak must've just come out of the fire, because it was steak sizzling and popping. It was popping and sizzling so much that juice from the steak popped into his eye and injured him. We had to call the paramedics. WHO puts piping hot meat in front of someone like that. I think they should of let it rest a bit before attempting to serve. After that accident, the servers seemed to shy away from our table. No class. Mostly the meal and visit was uneventful. The food had nothing special about it. The atmosphere in the place was fine, but kind of noisy. I think this place is more about flash. I see no reason to visit this place again. There are many many more quality steak houses to visit in Chicago, that is if you want a quality steak. Nothing special about this place.

Family dinner. Last day in chicago

By Samuel R |

Rude staff. Starting for the security guy at the door: very Rude, discourteous, impertinent. The the host, she was very unfriendly. Our waiter was nice, but asking me for more tip (already he charged without my permission 18% - we were only 4 people on table). For sure, There are at least 200 restaurants way better than this in chicago. Food was good but overpriced. You can eat the same steak in any other place for half of the price. They try to reach the level as a “fine restaurant” but for sure they are not!!!! we asked for 2 Hendricks and Tonic and the barman did not has an idea how to prepare it. Not recommended!! Please don’t go and don’t waste your money.

Great Dinner

By Mike D |

Dinner for 5 of my family visiting Chicago for a long weekend. Early dinner at 5:30pm. Service staff was great. Attentive. Great explanation of menu items with helpful suggestions. Menu was extensive and just as expected for a steakhouse. I was especially happy as they had a Bone In Veal Chop ... my favorite. Wine menu is extensive with many choices. Each entree was cooked to perfection. Totally enjoyed the dinner.

The Perfect Dinner

By dontrapper |

The restaurant itself is beautiful and chic and very comfortable and our waiter Jonathan was great both in personality and expertise in making suggestions. My wife and I split the King Crab appetizer. The size was perfect and the meat so sweet with four different dipping sauces. We also split a delicious wedge salad and then we both went with the “small” (12 oz) NY strip. Tender, perfectly cooked and seasoned and the best steak I’ve ever had. The side of corn creek brûlée was amazing as well. Stuffed but still managed a lemoncello sorbet for dessert. What a great evening.

Expensive and bad actitud

By Memua |

Expensive and bad actitud food good but not fresh at the entrance they have a security person arrogant and racist in tables of 3 people they force the service.

Is this a drive through?

By Fav A |

Still seething from my experience at this place. Wasn’t going to say anything but anger is getting the best of me. Took my family for my daughters birthday. We sat down and ordered cocktails and appetizers. Explained to our waiter that we wanted to enjoy our appetizers first before we ordered dinner. In the 10 minutes that we ate our appetizers, this waiter interrupted our conversation four times asking if we were ready to order dinner. I wanted to ask him if he understood what ‘enjoying our appetizers first before ordering dinner’ meant but didn’t want to ruin my daughter’s birthday vibe. So we finished our appetizers, 10-15 mins tops, by then the waiter made us feel like we were being rushed. We ordered our dinner entrees. I ordered my steak Oscar style. I kid you not, the entrees came out about 8 minutes later. My steak, of course, came out bare with nothing on it. I told the waiter I ordered it Oscar style, and he said ‘oh right, would you like me to bring it on the side?’ He didn’t even apologize. I wanted to tell him, if I wanted it on the side, I would have ordered it Oscar style asked you to forget the Oscar on it and bring it on the side 10 minutes later! Unbelievable! If you’re going to rush my dinner, you better get it right! But you didn’t! This is my third time here. First time good, second not so much, this third time terrible! Thus, NO I would not recommend Steak 48. You guys need to let the diners enjoy their meals and get them right when they order them specially if you’re going to tack on an automatic 20% tip to a weak waiter. Thoroughly disappointed!

Our New Favorite Restaurant

By Finztotheright |

My husband and I had an excellent experience at Steak 48. Every aspect of our meal was wonderful. The service, ambience, comfort, and last but not least the food and cocktails! Every course was exceptional starting with some pre-dinner martinis, wonderful bread, great salad, amazing steak, and the best dessert I’ve ever had! The caramel crunch cake was so good I had to come back the next night just for that! Our servers Alex and Carlin were absolutely fantastic! The made us feel like VIPs even though we obviously were not. Alex brought us the dessert for a a free special treat for our anniversary and Carlin brought us a gift of the Chicago skyline when we returned! Outstanding!!! I cannot recommend this place enough for special occasions or just to treat yourself.

Food excellent, Service Decent, Required Gratuity Fail

By trkr6468 |

My wife and I have been here several times and as before the food was excellent. We did not have an appetizer as we wanted dessert and never have room for both. For dinner I had the waygu ribeye and my wife had a fillet. Both were cooked perfectly and tasted great. For sides we shared the potatoes au gratin, creamed corn, and shishito peppers. For dessert we had the vanilla caramel cake. The service was marginal to ok. Our waiter was clearly not pleased we did not order an appetizer which I find offensive. We are in town for the weekend at a hotel and had no intention to eat leftovers. I can say given what we ordered at least 1/3 of the food was thrown away as we do not consume 1500 calories for dinner and I have no intention of wasting food to pad some waiters tip, which leads me to my final point. Requiring gratuity no longer makes it gratuity, it is merely a service fee and to then add an additional line item under gratuity to provide an additional “tip” is beyond offensive. Gratuity (tip) is based purely on performance, no one is entitled to any tip, it must be earned every minute. If you don’t like it, then leave the food service industry. My tip amount was 0. I find this an unacceptable practice and we have decided not to return to Steak 48.

SIX STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

By Ernie P |

Let’s get to the point and say this is the best dining experience I’ve had to date. The dinner started with a few appetizers that I normally wouldn’t pick, but they were so amazing I want to go back for more. Our drinks were never empty. It’s like they are constantly watching, but never bothering you. Now for the best part, the steak. I’m not a steak professional. I’ve had a few cuts of amazing steak at high end restaurants. This was by far THE BEST.

Over the Top Fabulous

By Noel J |

We attended a reception and six of us decided to stay for dinner. By the way, the wine, appetizers, and service were outstanding. We ordered six different entrees, side dishes, and desserts and all were over the top fabulous. Our waitress was a consummate professional and the supporting staff were excellent. Everyone everywhere in the restaurant was welcoming and thanked us when we left. This was one of our best dining experiences in a long time. Highly recommended!

5 star Birthday Vibes

By Chevonda T |

I rarely hand out 5 stars, but babyyyy, this place earned every one of them! Came here to celebrate my birthday, and from start to finish, the experience was flawless—delicious food, exceptional service, and the follow-up call the next day to check on our visit? A classy touch that sealed the deal. This spot just became a Chicago must—I'll be back every single time I'm in town.

Thank you Tony

By bettyIllinois |

Tony was our waiter and he was amazing. Venue was very dark and our party of six were seated in a small room with 3 other tables so it felt a little crowded. The restaurant was not crowded on a Saturday night. Everyone at the table enjoyed their steaks and my tuna steak was excellent. Oysters were great. Tony made our dinner memorable.

Great steakhouse

By Samantha S |

We were looking for a good steak in Chicago and chose Steak 48 on a whim. I am so glad we did! The ambiance is excellent- everything is dark and trendy and smells amazing. We sat on the patio. The patio is up a level or two and covered. It has a gorgeous view of the city and still feels luxe and tucked away. The service was excellent. My water and wine glasses were never empty. The server was helpful, polite, and made sure everything went smoothly at our table. You can tell you can tell the staff has been trained to provide a high level of service. When I order a steak in a restaurant I often feel disappointed because it's inferior to what I can make at home. Either it's not a great cut, it's not seasoned well, or it's been overcooked. NOT here. I had a prime, 28 day wet aged, bone in Ribeye. It was stunning. They cooked it perfectly (the server informed me they offered a Rare +, which is in my opinion ideal), they had developed a nice crust, and it was seasoned to perfection. We got the whipped potatoes, sugar snap peas, and creamed spinach, all of which were great. For dessert we had the banana split, some kind of vanilla cake with ice cream, and a chocolate peanut butter shake. They were all delicious- especially the vanilla cake. Overall it was an excellent experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great steak in a great environment.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!

By FhayzeB |

Well a solo Halloween dinner is not what I had planned but Cream Corn Brûlée, Fried Lobster tails, a perfectly cooked medium rare grass fed NY Strip, and delicious asparagus as a meal had my name on it! Not disappointed. I LOVE THIS PLACE! Great to see Joe Taylor and Katrina Johnson who do a remarkable job managing this restaurant. Ps. GREAT WINE LIST!

Fantastic food and service

By janhad |

Excellent food. Sara, our server, was terrific and very knowledgeable. The bread is some of the best I’ve ever had. Crispy shrimp deviled eggs and crab/avocado tower were delicious. The wagyu filet and the scallops were prepared to perfection. The corn creme brûlée was FANTASTIC. I could bathe in it. Can’t wait to have it again. The stone fruit martini was quite tasty as well. Highly highly recommend. Can’t wait to go back.

Excellent food and service to match

By rdb10000 |

We were here for dinner. The selection of oysters was wonderful and tasty. The steaks were properly prepared and delicious. The service was excellent. Our waiter, Kama, was excellent. He took amazing care of us and really made the evening.

Everything was perfect

By LynziAlana |

I went to Steak 48 on a whim after arriving from London - I really did not expect to eat one of the best meals of my life tonight! I was eating alone so sat at the bar, and the bar staff were just the right amount of friendly and courteous, so I felt attended to but not overly bothered. I had a glass of Rioja and the NY steak, with peppercorn sauce and creamed spinach. The food was cooked to perfection and the wine was delicious.

Fabulous for a special occasion

By DaisyDec |

This is a great place for a special occasion. The ambience is dimmed and romantic. The service is second to none- almost too much with at least 3 people attending to each table. The food is expensive but wonderful- the steaks are the best and cooked to perfection. However, as somewhere which has a reserve wine list, where bottles are $100s we were disappointed that the bottle of zinfandel we ordered was served far too cold which affected it's flavour significantly. Such a shame.

Great steaks, dining room and service

By Andrew T |

We dined here for a special occasion whilst in Chicago, looking for good steaks and an upscale experience. We booked easily through Open Table and following a short wait for the table to be prepared, were shown to a pleasant corner table. The servers were pleasant and attentive, explaining the provenance of the food and how cooked. Douglas was our main server and very helpful. We had the Rhode Island shrimp and calamari to start, plus shrimp with spicy coating. Both excellent dishes and substantial. For mains we both had New York strip steaks, the 12oz size more than suiting our appetite, but larger cuts also available. The steaks were well cooked, exactly to order, and one came with blue cheese sauce. The sides of creamed mash and sprouts with bacon also great. From a substantial wine list, we had a Napa Valley cabernet sauvignon, which went well with the mains. A very good experience, slightly dented by a very load table opposite with a boorish sweary individual, but otherwise recommend and we would return.

Extraordinary steak house, the menu is full of delicious dishes , the beef is exceptional, impeccable service!

By Sorcière blonde |

For a perfect steak cooked with the precision of a clock and according to your tastes, served in a boiling plate with smoking sides, chic decor, perfect service, great wines, an experience to make and remake!

Best Dinner We Had in All of Chicago

By Dave D |

My wife and I were blown away by our experience at Steak 48. Our server, Raul, was amazing, so friendly and congratulated us on our anniversary. We started off with a Caesar Salad, then had the 45 day dry aged bone-in ribeye and asparagus fries. The steak was so beautifully aged and cooked to perfection. We both loved the asparagus fries as well! As a surprise, Raul brought us a butter cake with vanilla ice cream, pecans and whipped cream for dessert to celebrate our anniversary. This cake was amazing and we tried to eat all of it even though we were so full. If you are visiting, make sure you dine at Steak 48. The atmosphere, food and experience is something that you will remember for years afterwards.

Wonderful

By pharvey841 |

We booked Steak 48 and mentioned in the booking that we were celebrating our anniversary. We were seated at the best table in the house. It was a private booth with a window looking into the kitchen. We started with the mixed bread, some salted, some with parmesan. The bread was piping hot both delicious. For our starters, my wife had the chopped salad and I had the ahi poke. The salad didn't have much taste. The poke, on the other hand, was the best I've had outside the Hawaiian islands! It was a little spicy, don't let that stop you from having it. For our main, my wife got the small filet and I got the small strip steak. For our side, we split the macaroni and cheese. The steaks came out on a 500F plate, but the temperature of the steaks were perfect. The filet was melt in your mouth tender and the strip was a luscious, juicy treat. We could not eat much of the macaroni and cheese because we were saving room for dessert. We had the S'mores in a bottle and the chocolate cake. The S'mores was good, not a heavy dessert. It was mostly marshmallow and whipped cream with a little bit of chocolate. The chocolate cake was fabulous with red raspberries accompanying the cake. The service was excellent. The manager and the Executive Chef both came by the table to ask how the meal was. There is an extensive wine list as well as a large selection of bourbons, whiskey, and Scotches. There are also cognacs, tequilas, cocktails, and dessert wines.

Absolutely fabulous!

We celebrated my birthday. Fantastic evening! The food, the service and management all top notch. A true class act, highly recommend!

Very nice

By Frederic D |

Nice place nice atmosphere and a good choice and food. Quiet busy but service is very sharp. The choice is quite large. The price was not cheap but high quality. Noisy but quite usual in USA restaurant

Braised Pork Belly

By JujuA |

luckily I had reserved because this restaurant is always full, I advised my family to take the Braised Pork Belly It was excellent as usual, for my dad s birthday they offered him a glass of very good cognac and he was delighted, thank you

Very good but not a favorite

By gondekp |

I went on a Monday night while in town on business. I will qualify that I ate at the bar not the dining room and bar definitely felt like a more casual option. I was greeted quickly and politely and took a look at the drink menu. I started with a 46 walnut which was a old fashioned variation. I did notice and appreciate the clear ice cube used. That’s a nice touch. And the drink was good. I started with the pork belly starter. Honestly just ok for me. It was sliced thin and had the spicy sweet combo with honey and chili sauce and was on a bed of sautéed spinach. To me it was sliced pork. For pork belly I’m looking for melt in your mouth meat and fat the basically dissolves. This didn’t do it for me. I did get some bread as well. Big fan. Comes in a mini skillet. Offered with sea salt and butter or parm and herb (I think) or a mix. I went mix and ate the hole think myself. Very light. I went with the 16oz NY strip medium rare and the truffle fries. I may have enjoyed the fries more without the truffle but they did taste good and were crispy. The steak was cooked perfect medium rare. Now I love a good crust on a steak. But this was more black char than brown tasty crust. I don’t know if that is typical but that was how it was. I had a couple glasses of wine and called it a night. It was a very good meal but just wasn’t great.

Very good but had better

By JDUK1 |

Really enjoyable steakhouse with a properly sizeable piece of meat (in my estimation exceeded the advertised 22oz). However my steak was just a mite overdone (slight over-charred on the exterior, not quite edge to edge mid-rare). Think I was unlucky though as my pal’s was perfect, and the indisputable quality of all else (wine, cocktails, service, appetiser) made for a great experience at a fair price.

Weekend in Chicago

By CindyLW137 |

It was hard to get a reservation, so we didn't sit down until 8:30 pm. We sat upstairs which has a nice view of the patio and it was quiet. Our waitress was excellent, attentive but not hovering. A second course came out while we were still on our appetizers and it went right back with no attitude. I enjoyed the hard-boiled eggs appetizer add the crab cocktail was large. Steaks were cooked perfectly. Potatoes were decadent. Overall a very good steak house experience. Take time to look at the kitchen. We missed doing so.

The CHICKEN FRIED LOBSTER OH MY!

By KimaT |

My husband and I have dined here several times and have decided that this is my favorite place to dine in Chicago. The service is unbeatable, such attention to detail. We fell in love with the Chicken Fried Lobster. Hands down the most delicious lobster I’ve ever had. We are huge fans of the crème brûlée corn too! The bread is served piping hot with a fabulous garlic herb blended butter. You can’t go wrong with the tomahawk ribeye! You won’t be disappointed it’s this fabulous dining experience. Such a fun vibe!

New Favorite

By T7371LCmichaell |

Our whole experience was amazing. The staff was warm and welcoming. Service was spot on. The food was exceptional! From the the oysters, the sides, to the fabulous steaks. This is by far my new favorite Chicago steakhouse and I cant waite to return.

You’ll be glad you ate at 48

By FrickeNomads |

Steak 48 delivers when you think of a Chicago, steakhouse. Above par service, great atmosphere, an extensive menu covering both food and drink and above all outstanding food. For this visit I was solo so went to the bar and ordered a few beers with everyone one of them being nice and cold. The bartenders were on top of their game in service. I ordered the bone in ribeye with potatoes and they were outstanding. The food comes out hot and they also proved very delicious rolls. I’ll admit, the steak was so good I did something my wife would have fainted if she saw me do it at such a nice place. I chewed the meat off the bone! Yea I know a big no-no, but I couldn’t help myself it was so good. So if your looking for a great steak with all the accompaniments of a Chicago steakhouse I highly recommend, Steak 48!

Obnoxious manager

By Cynthia_fallenpatriots |

We walked in and another customer was walking out saying "F you and F this place". We should have just left then. We had just arrived for a special family dinner. I was in cashmere designer shorts and a crisp, tailored, white button down blouse. I was told I didn't meet their business attire dress code. Meanwhile my adult children were in ripped jeans and flannels, other patrons were also in ripped jeans, most were in sneakers, and many were in t-shirts because THAT IS THE CURRENT FASHION. None of them were lectured or turned away. I was told by a female blonde manager that I looked like I was going to the gym. Really? In diamond earrings, golden goose, and a Fendi bag? Maybe you could have just said "I'm so sorry, we don't allow shorts" and I would have respected your rules. But to insult me was unprofessional. I told her I would respect her rules and per her request I covered my (expensive rag & bone designer) shorts in her cheap pashmina because I didn't want to ruin our special family meal. My children all questioned why she was so rude to me (and my husband who politely tried to explain my shorts were actually dressy) but had no problem with their very casual outfits that would never be classified as business attire. Very short sighted and rude of this manager. The rest of our meal was tense. We were told our table was ready but the waiter walked us over to a half set table and then asked our party of 6 to step back while they finished setting the table but there wasn't anywhere to go since we were a large party. Felt like everyone who worked there was tense. I run a business and the managers set the tone for everyone. If the manager is rude and rigid the staff will be tense. We actually couldn't wait to leave. Our waiter Vinny however did a fine job despite the overall tone of the restaurant. The manager should be replaced. The other staff made up for her rudeness but we won't return because she offended us enough to never return. There are plenty of other great steak houses in Chicago.

Downtown Chicago Steak 48! Memorable!

By Linda B |

Excellent food and service. Our waiter was kind and helpful. The filet mignon and NY strips were cooked medium to perfection. It was amazing how the plates were warm and kept the food very warm throughout the meal. The wine list is extensive and the cocktails were delicious. I especially loved loved loved the sweet potato praline vegetable side. It was the anniversary of one of the couples and they gave us free dessert to celebrate. So very thoughtful ! I live in NYC and I have to say that our party agrees it was the best steakhouse we ever visited..EVER.

What a robbery

By Robert K |

What a robbery   Minimum you must spend is $100 and when you don’t spend $100, they will just add the difference to your bill. So, for example you ate a steak and a baked potato for $66, they will add another $34 to you bill. Per person. They will also add gratuity automatically. The story will start with nobody in the restaurant wearing a mask. Be prepared that the waiter will try to upsell you like crazy. I mean, a door-to-door salesperson is nothing against these waiters. It is a restaurant your grandparents loved to go, but management never updated of upgraded the restaurant / menu. And the food? Even the filet mignon was tough. Without a steak knife we would have had no chance. And it was not seasoned at all.   Anything positive? Yes, the waiter was friendly and the restaurant was clean.

Exceptional server - Trace

By Wanderlust |

Exceptional business dinner. Lovely ambience, generous pours of top shelf wines by the glass. The seafood tower was amazing — delicious and the beautifully presented. It’s an absolute pleasure enjoying a meal with truly professional service. Our server, TRACE was the best waiters I’ve ever had - and I’ve attended dozens of business functions. Sharp, knowledgeable, offering great suggestions. Personable and fun without being glib - and the meal was perfectly paced. She is an outstanding server and really made the meal special. Absolutely a pro and such an asset to Steak 48. Best steak I’ve ever had, anywhere.

STEAK 48 OUTSTANDING STEAKHOUSE

By jagarrity |

During a recent visit to Chicago, my husband and I had dinner at Steak 48. A modern style steakhouse with friendly knowledgeable staff who were attentive but not obtrusive. The food (popovers, bone-in KC strip steak, kennebec fries, Triple Layer Key Lime Pie) were delicious. Be forewarned, the portions are massive for those who are light eaters. You might wish to share which is perfectly fine with staff. Highly recommend.

Best Steaks In Chicago

By Christine L |

Steak 48 has the best steaks in town. No one serves steaks on hot plate and just how i wanted. Service are always excellent, even dining in the bar is an experience.

Amazing steakhouse

By Mandy007 |

Wow what a lovely experience. Zsolt was our server as we celebrated our daughter’s birthday. He was exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. We started with the custom seafood tower and some appetizers which were outstanding. The wagyu beef was so tender that just melts in your mouth. The side brussel sprouts were the best we have ever had. The food is simply divine here and the service matches the food. Ambience is varied depending on where you sit. We were near the back by the kitchen which was lively and bright. Other areas were darker and more romantic and there was a sporty area with a television. There is definitely something for everyone at this steakhouse. It will be at the top of our list next time we are in Chicago. Worth every penny!

Awesome place

By Tony D |

The food, atmosphere and service were all fantastic. I've been to many great restaurants and steak houses in particular and this place was my favorite. The filet mignon was perfectly done, tender and flavorful. I can't say enough about it.

Everything was fantastic until the end

By CLEWOOD |

It’s a great meal. The cocktails are great, the one list is extensive and great reasonably price good wines can be found, the staff is attentive, salads are great and the steaks are some of the best around. The plate won’t stop sizzling - it’s a bit scary. The sides are also very good, but some exceed others (I didn’t enjoy the cauliflower). My annoyance, a 2O% standard gratuity for a party of 2. That shouldn’t be standard practice and is the first I’ve encountered. Just odd and off putting.

Consistently outstanding

By RWSII |

The bar is packed and they have tons of single malt scotches to choose from. Excellent craft cocktails also. Only downside with this place is that it’s loud and crowded. Going here and trying to have a business meeting or intimate conversation is not easy. Food is also spot on and the steak selection is on point. I’d suggest going here to just relax and enjoy yourself with friends and not worry about this as a business spot. Always a favorite while on Chicago.

Satisfactory

By Jonathan B |

First, don't wear a hat there. The don't allow them. My meal was good. The dinner rolls were excellent, and I had a very nice chop salad. That might have been the highlight of the meal. The steak was good. It wasn't the best I've had in the city, but it was certainly a fine piece of meat. The whipped potatoes were a let-down. They were watery and rather tasteless. The service was quite good, and overall, it was a good meal. One issue I have is that when they add a gratuity, then waiter should announce that. Especially in dim lights, it is hard to see the fine print. I had a young, somewhat inebriated lady ask me to calculate what her tip should be for a $243 bill. I told her twenty percent and gave her the amount. I didn't notice until I received my bill that they add the gratuity to the bill. That wasn't because I saw the note. The bill was just too high. I moved to a brighter light, and then I saw it in small print. If restaurants feel the need to add a gratuity, then they should make it evident. The waiter should tell the diner. That aside, I had a pleasant evening and an enjoyable meal.

Fantastic overall!

Steak 48 Chicago offers wonderful steaks, ambience, and service. Shrimps in the cocktail are really jumbo and tasty, don’t miss them. Deserts are delicious too… tartuffo and pistachio!!

Impeccable Service + Epicurean Journey

By ServiceAdvocate007 |

Impeccable Service! From the heart-melting, warm, welcome to the au gratin potatoes and sensational S'mores dessert, Steak 48 is an epicurean journey to behold. In a city where “steak places” are an obvious feature of the skyline ~ our Steak 48 experiences rank the highest in the last several years. Ask for Max - he and his team raise a high bar!

Melt-in-your-mouth steak

By pissandmoan |

At the time we booked, they made a big deal about the dress code, but as long as you're not wearing sports gear or ripped jeans or similar it's no issue. It's certainly not coat and tie. The atmosphere was great with dim lighting and being seated in separate room with only a few tables in it. The service was the friendliest we experienced in Chicago, but then our server was from Alabama not Illinois. She was just delightful. But the real story is the steak, it was cooked perfectly and was so tender. It is undoubtedly one of the best steaks I have eaten in 50 years on this planet. The portions are typically large, especially the dessert. We ordered a dessert each and didn't finish either. The table next to us shared one dessert between three, which seemed a much more sensible approach after eating a sizable chunk of dead animal. My only criticism is that the menu presented all the steaks in terms of ounces, which was problematic for those of us living in the 21st century. Surely it's not too much trouble to have the weight listed in ounces and grams? I acknowledge that this is not a Steak 48 issue, but a USA issue.

Now That's a Steak!

Snooty, could be worth it

By Brian B |

I met about 8 colleagues here last night. They were in for dinner, but due to a previous engagement I had to leave early and can't really speak to that. The rib cap did sound good. Our server Jasmin seemed great. On entrance to the restaurant, I was, I dunno "dress-coded"? I had come on a bike so I was wearing helmet and a coat with reflective markings. The doorman use asked if I was there for a pickup, which I totally understand. I said no I was there to dine, and that's when he went off. He asked me if I was wearing jeans (I was wearing nice trousers) and then told me to fix my socks. Finally after I did all that he let me in. I'm old enough to be mildly amused by this, but also experienced enough to know Chicago has many fine restaurants, including Alinea, Elske and (RIP) Tru, that I have biked to without similar gatekeeping. Perhaps they are so snooty because they are based in the land of old people (Scottsdale AZ). There are many great steakhouses in Chicago. I'd definitely recommend Chicago Cut or Bavette's before this experience but, to be clear, I didn't actually try the steak.

GOOD STEAK AND GOOD DRINKS .. SAY LESS

TRY IT AND YOU WILL SEE WHAT THE HYPE IS ABOUT. this place is so crazy good. The steak is perfect. Martinis were nice and just right. Sweet potatoes w pralines.. nice

Great but uncomfortable

By Kelly B |

Lovely steaks and lovely complimentary bread to start. However, we came here on a special one-off occasion as we dont usually dine in a more fine dining restaurant and felt uncomfortable. Just felt like the waiters were judging us for not choosing expensive steaks when the cheapest was expensive enough! Don't think they liked that we didn't opt for a wine either!

Excellent

By Virgilio Montorio |

If I could I would have given 6 stars. Everything is really excellent and of great quality. It deserves the reputation it has. A warm greeting to the nice and good waiter Italo.

Horrible service

By Jessica B |

We had a terrible experience. Our waiter, Marcus, was extremely rude on multiple occasions. I have a dairy allergy and the restaurant was not able to accommodate it. My only request was that the bread be served without cheese or butter. Marcus replied “No.” He also snatched drinks away before they were finished and rushed us to leave. Will not be returning. Don’t go here if you have a food allergy or want good service.

Great business dinner

By Beth S |

Hosted a business dinneR for 20…Steak and pork chop were both fantastic…asparagus and mashed Potatoes were both very good…salads were good - chopped was a little overdressed…s’mores in a jar dessert was too sweet, but a fun idea…service was a little over the top, but attentive and professional…they were quick to fill your wine glass - maybe a little too quick…overall great evening…not cheap.

Wow!! My best steak ever!

By 448kirstir |

We found this place just suddenly and it really amazed us!!! I think I had a best steak ever - crispy NYstrip and medium raw. It was just perfect!!! I still can’t beleive that I didn’t even added any salt. Perfetto!!!

Fabulous

By annemaBirmingham |

This is an incredibly qualitative experience! Although on the pricey side, let me recommend it. Very professional service, not pushy, attentive, extremely clean. The wine by the glass are 90% American. It was very good. I order a 12oz rare filet mignon and it was the best steak I had in years! Perfectly cooked, served on a plate heated at 500fahrenheit. The kitchen stands behind a glass wall. The restaurant is organised in spaces so you always feel cosy. I sat at the bar and enjoyed! A great time. Bravo!

Excellent in every way

By kelem |

We have been to the top steak restaurants in NY, Las Vegas, Kansas City and others and this is the best. The NY strip I had was the best steak I have ever eaten. I was also happy to see the whisky selection included my favorite Irish, Redbreast 15, and the desert wine list included a five puttonyos Tokaji. My only other comment is both a complaint and a complement. Our sever initially seemed to be hurrying us, but when he realized we were going to take our time he adjusted.

Celebrated a birthday, wonderful

A wonderful restaurant with excellent service and very good menu explanations. Surprisingly pleasant stay, from waiting for a sled at the bar to the last bite and meal. I highly recommend it and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Awkward for a Steakhouse in this City

By BenfromBoston |

The whole meal was just off a bit from the time we arrived. I found the whole night to be off. We sat at a table at the end of the restaurant, which was a little tight for my liking. They don't give menus when you sit, that comes later, and then they hand you three menus all of which are large and heavy. Yes, they have a great wine selection, but at a big cost. The steaks come on very hot plates. Before we cut into the steak, which we were never asked to do, they served the sides onto the hot plates. Our steak was significantly under done. They took them back and then reserved with the same, now overcooked sides. The food overall was ok, but not work the price.

First Class food and service

Best meal I had in my trip to Chicago. Food was prompt, hot and excellent. My server, Douglas was a pro, he knew what he was doing and extremely friendly, to all of his tables. First place I’ll book and recommend to friends.

A Disappointing Atmosphere… and it didn’t need to be.

Honestly, a real disappointment… and it didn’t need to be. I decided to dine here for a special couples dinner because I heard the atmosphere was excellent. The decor and setting are really nice… but the atmosphere was a disappointment because of some unforced errors. First… the music. A high-end steak house with a beautiful setting doesn’t need to blast out 80’s-90’s pop music hits. When I take my spouse out for a dinner that will costs over $200… I don’t care to hear Huey Lewis & and the News, Fine Young Cannibals, and 80’s Bruce Springsteen. The music was laughable as we felt like we were at a bowling alley on retro 80’s night. Change the station to Jazz, acoustic, something romantic or sophisticated. Second… we arrived somewhat early in the evening and were escorted to beautiful dining room, but unfortunately seated next to a large family with several young children (under age 6). This was baffling because the rest of the dining room was empty. Why couldn’t we have been seated on the other side of the dining room away from the noisy kids watching cartoons on a phone? Third… I understand the need to train a server… but two servers constantly hovering around and “over checking” on us… when we were clearly still looking at our menu and deciding… seemed a bit too much. 18% Gratuity was included in our bill… for a party of two. I guess typical for Chicago… probably not for most other places in the USA. FOOD: The warm bread was OK… but tasted more akin to a breadstick that you might find at an Italian restaurant. Brussels sprouts (side dish) was very ordinary. Crème Brûlée cream corn was terrific. Filet Mignon was exceptional… cooked perfect…. But we were disappointed with the Oscar style… a bit strongly with the crab and hollandaise sauce. For the money… we feel we made a mistake as we could have visited a big name suburban steak house (R.C.) and had better food and experience.

Excellent Steakhouse! Could have been an Awesome experience...

We made reservations just a few days prior to arrival, using Open Table, to celebrate a big Birthday. We had an early time on a weekday; just after 5 PM, because we were going to Second City shortly afterwards. We arrived to a relatively empty restaurant (assuming it just opened), and we were greeted politely, then taken to our table. They sat the two (2) of us at a large (4-5 seat) circular booth along the exterior window near the Bar, and they even gave us a personalized Birthday Card! After we sat, not being thrilled with the lively environment, we asked if there was a table not located in the Bar - maybe in the actual "Dining Room?" They moved us (seemingly begrudgingly) to the nicer adjacent room (which you see in the web images), but still not upstairs to the formal Dining Room - not sure why not... We were literally the only people dining at that time, except for one other person, so don't understand why they didn't sit us in the nicer/quieter space in the first place, or even upstairs - knowing that we were celebrating something special. Anyway, this table was very nice, much better than in the Bar, and we were immediately greeted buy our pleasant server Juan. He was very descriptive of the menu and menu options - making them all sound great. We ordered a Beet Salad and Crab/Avocado Tower to start. They both arrived quickly after ordering, and they were very tasty. The fresh Bread was out-of-this-world; fresh, warm, soft and buttery! Then our main courses of; Petite Filet and Waygu (it was a special Birthday after all) Filet arrived (on 500-degree 'hot' plates), with a side of Scalloped Potatoes. The steaks were cooked perfectly - charred outside and juicy and the proper temperature inside. They were so delicious, in fact one of the best steaks (and best Waygu) we've ever had! We couldn't finish the potatoes or the Waygu, so we asked for them to be packed to go. Since we were full, we didn't order Dessert, but Juan showed up with a special Birthday Dessert of Angel-food(?) Cake with Vanilla Gelato, whipped cream and "Happy Birthday" writing in chocolate on the plate. This is not a normal dessert we would have normally ordered, but it was really excellent, and greatly appreciated! This was truly one of the BEST steakhouse restaurants we've eaten at (we travel a lot), and except for the odd seating issue (maybe because we reserved on Open Table instead of calling direct?) it was a very enjoyable experience and celebration. We would come back or try the other locations in Texas or Pennsylvania. We will be sure to specially ask for a Dining Room table next time though, to avoid the awkward, embarrassing, and odd seating issue.

Michelin-starred restaurant! I recommend it. Were on our son's birthday (twentieth birthday). Received a greeting card as well as a dessert as a gift. Everything they ordered was top quality.

A deeply mediocre experience

By Michele P |

We dined here for a girls trip to Chicago. My mother, my daughter and I. Now, I will preface this review with the fact I work in the meat business. I have eaten the best steaks on the planet and frankly, I have gotten better steak from Costco and I certainly cook and present it better. For their minimums and dress code, this place is utterly tacky. We walked in and it was dark as a cave with UFC on the TV and 80s music BLARING. It has the ambiance of a sports bar and the food of any strip mall steakhouse. Plus...they haven't met any dish sugar can't improve. Corn creme brulee would be better exceute by my 12 year old. The dessert menu was designed by a meth addict looking for a sugar high and the wine list is boring. The wait staff pretends they know what they are doing and the sole redeeming staff was the excellent runners and bussers who were very nice to my daughter.

The food was exquisite!

The spectacular meat! Both the Mood (albeit somewhat dark), and the treatment very good. If you want to spend $100 on a good meal this is a good place in Chicago!

Outstanding steakhouse

We picked this restaurant based upon its reviews and it was totally worth it. It is pretty expensive and a little bit long so to be preferably favored for special occasions. It is indeed delicious and steaks are enormous and perfectly cooked. A perfect pick to enjoy typical American cuisine.

Great steak

I was traveling alone, so sat at the bar. Had a delicious bone-in steak cooked perfectly. You can fit it on your expense account if you have the sides and beverages on a separate tab. haha.

My family and I celebrated my 70th Birthday and we had the BEST experience! From the ambiance to the food !! Our waiter Raul was awesome!

Top Notch Steak

By Joe F |

Given all of the high-end steak houses in Chicago I did not think there was room for another. I was wrong. Steak 48 rises to the top given the quality of the meat and the way it's prepared (heavy sear and cooked to perfect/requested temp inside). The sides are some unique twists on steak house staples. Service was friendly and helpful, with the exception of a somewhat perfunctory host team. Well worth the visit and the price.
