Some of the best barbeque I've had

By SR-1007 |

Top notch brisket and smoked meats. We had brisket, sausage, chicken and turkey at the table and all were moist and succulent, while still being lean. The sides were nothing special...good, but not as great as the BBQ. I recommend asking for a side salad, and the fried okra was good too. We will return, for sure, when we're visiting that part of town.

Fantastic Texan food in a simple restaurant

By Frenchbird |

We were looking for a proper Texan food experience and we found it! This place is no frills but OMG what great food they do. We had some of the beef and the pork ribs, absolutely amazing, really good smokey flavor, the dirty rice was nice too. and it's very good value and big size portions!! They also sell their homemade barbecue sauce, a must to take home!

First Visiti

By corcoranj |

Well i was in the Houston area on business. I had never been to Texas before and wanted to try some famous BBQ. I did some goggling and looked at reviews and found Stockyard. The place was not busy at all even considering it was around dinner time (6ish). Walked right in and realized it was a dinner hall style place. I looked at the menu and ordered the bonus chicken meal, with some garlic green beans, they asked if i wanted the original or spicy BBQ sauce. I choose the spicy. The chicken was tender and very well seasoned and the BBQ was amazing. I totally recommend this place. Like i said great BBQ, good price and no wait.

And I'm from Kansas City...

By Liljopete |

Hands down the best BBQ I've ever had. I got to watch a guy carve my brisket off right in front of me. Fries are made right when you order. The food was fantastic, but the service was even better. There were 3 guys working, and you could tell that they really enjoyed their job.

Melt in your mouth...good!

By Darlene D |

This was my 1st time for southern food in Texas! The brisket and sauce were melt in your mouth tender meat! Mac & cheese is one of the best I ever had. I'd be back if I get the chance to come back. Home feeling atmosphere. Simple....yet so good.

Issue with third party ordering, no offer for reconciliation

By Sebastian R |

Awful first expereience. Made an order on Postmates that said it would be ready in ten minutes. Make the twenty minute drive to get there. Get told they don't have an order for me or from Postmates on their tablet. Let them know I have a charge on my account. They say they understand and are sorry. Do they offer help? Nope. Do they offer to get an order going right away? Nope. Just go on to the next customer so I'm stuck with my hands in my pockets like a royal a-hole with a twenty minute drive home with no food. This was my first time here, and evidently my last.

Always good bbq and fast service

By Martinez78414 |

I found this place by accident and it has become my favorite bbq place in houston. The brisket is always good, the ribs are good, and the sauce is tasty! The service is excellent and there is hardly ever a wait!

The turkey breast my wife ordered was really moist and had really great rosemary flavor. The heart attack potatoes! Are just out of this world.

Good Find

By BryanH987 |

We wanted to eat BBQ ribs & brisket while on a 2 day trip. Found this place on the internet and it was close to our hotel so we tried it. The food was very good, not the best meal ever but very good and we were very pleased with the service. The restaurant is very clean and worth another visit in the future.

Good Bar B Q

By ChrisfromTO |

On our last evening of our short Houston trip, my wife and I decided to try out the Stockyard Bar-B-Q on Westheimer Rd. We arrive and the restaurant was very nice looking, it is a cafeteria style place but is not out of line. I ordered the two meat platter (brisket and sausage) and my wife ordered the back ribs platter. Both meals come with two sides. The mac & cheese was ok but the heart attack potatoes were really good. They have two house sauces, a mild sweet one and a hot spicy one that are on the table for you. I was only a little disappointed with my brisket as it was not that smokey flavoured and it was not very hot when it was served. My wife absolutely adored her ribs though. I found it was a bit more expensive than I thought it should be but not too much out of line with other Houston prices. It cost me a little over $30 for the meals. I can recommend The Stockyard Bar-B-Q as a pretty good BBQ restaurant to visit if you are in the Galleria area. I would eat here again.

Very friendly service and decent barbecue

By bruce p |

This is a very clean restaurant. The service is very professional and friendly. They treat you like a friend. The barbecue is very good portion and very well cooked. See my pictures. The only thing that wasn't dead was the barbecue sauce it was kind of wet and Bland but otherwise this is a great place if you use your own barbecue sauce.

I want this as my last meal.

By Quentin S |

If I was on death row and had to choose my last meal it would be hear. And would include a double order of heartattack potato salad. The meat and other sides are amazing but that potato salad is a must.

Great BBQ in Westheimer area

By Marion G |

Solid BBQ joint in Houston. Rosemary turkey is awesome. Excellent sides and sauces as well. Sweet tea just right. Great service. Will stop again when traveling to Houston

Great moist brisket

By Old guy travels |

Lunch selection was good and as you would expect a meat fest. Nice moist brisket, sausage seemed dry as if it was re-heated, sides were good. Basic amenities but just fine for BBQ. All in all very pleasant although the young staff appeared to be bored and not attentive

Authentic Southeast Texas BBQ

By Houston_TX_Traveling |

I live near the restaurant so I eat here often. The food is delicious and the prices are reasonable. You must tey the heart attack potatoes.

Awesome brisket!!!

By bkfj40 |

Great brisket and great staff! The food was awesome and the sides were phenomenal. Loaded potato salad = the bomb

Great value BBQ

By Leggyj |

The spicy BBQ sauce is recommended over the original - if you can tolerate a bit of a kick. The food was really good for a fair price. I really enjoyed the smoked chicken. The helpings were very generous. I got 2 meats and 2 sides. The green beans were very salty/buttery. The mac-n-cheese was good, but not fresh. Staff was friendly.

Good selection of mains and sides

By KenMeaney1 |

Stockyard offers a great selection of smoked meats and sides with a fantastic atmosphere. Really relaxed environment and well worth a visit.

Texas Bar B Q

By jvgregistered |

In town for a few days looking for some BBQ. Drove by this place and took note. Headed back later in the day. Order at counter, watch them prepare your plate, pay and eat. Really good BBQ and all the fixins. Price was good, staff friendly and helpful, samples offered if u asked. Beef back ribs and dry rubbed pork ribs were my choice, which were tasty and plentiful. Two sides came with 2 meat plate meal. I had slaw which was ok but, sweet cabbage w/ bacon (my first time)was extremely good. Others with my group had baked potato with all the toppings and was good portion as well as beef brisket that was tasty. Bottled Beer on ice was available and mixed drinks at a mini bar. This place was clean with no complaints. I would go back again as I found the price fair and food good. There was standby flow of customers, but not overcrowded during my visit.

Family Visit

By Kali R |

I was visiting family in Houston and told my cousin the only thing I absolutely wanted to do while I was there was get some good BBQ. Everything else we could just play it by ear. He and his wife took me here and it did not disappoint. The BBQ was good and the sides were delicious too! If I lived in Houston, I would be in trouble because I would probably be a regular there. Stopping to pick it up on the way home from work.

Down-home BBQ

By USCmom427 |

My favorite BBQ place - it's local - not a chain and they have some of the best BBQ in Texas !! Brisket - Ribs - Crawfish in season - yummy Jalapeno cheese bread and cornbread and absolutely, they make better sweet cabbage than my mother's!! Save room for banana pudding !! It's very casual, reasonably priced and very friendly. Great customer service.

Decent bbq

By ELI C |

This is my first time coming here and I wanted to try a new bbq place. I had the brisket and turkey plate with vegie beans and dirty rice. It wasn't the best, but good for what you pay for. Brisket wasn't great at all..Turkey was really good..the vegie beans were pretty tasty, the dirty rice was alright. Overall I may eat here again to try something else..to be continued.

Chris

By Chris T |

Very good food and great service. If you are in the Houston area, I would definitely recommend going to Stockyard Bar-B-Q!!!!

Just OK BBQ

By aschoono |

We were visiting Houston from Michigan. We love BBQ and have had some amazing BBQ is Texas so we had to have some when visiting. We were not very impressed with the Stockyard BBQ. Nothing was bad but nothing was great either. The best thing we had was the fresh fires. My wife got a margarita and it was served in a styrofoam cup. We will be trying somewhere else next time.

Worth a Visit!

By StarDeluxe |

The restaurant is quite large, with plenty of seating. We ordered the two meat combo plates ($14.49). I ordered brisket and jalapeno sausage and my wife ordered brisket and turkey. The meats were good, although the brisket was drier and less juicy than I would have liked. I think there are many different ways of doing BBQ, and this was a bit different than I'm used to. For me, the real standouts were the corn bread muffins/biscuits and the extra spicy barbecue sauce. The corn bread was light, moist and delicious. The spicy BBQ sauce is "muy picante", but amazing if you can take the heat. Overall, we enjoyed our food and the whole experience was good. The staff are friendly and helpful and we would definitely return.

Okay bbq, great service, good atmosphere

By John L |

Collectively the 3 of us had the pulled pork sammich and ck salad which we all agreed was a 2.5 - not bad, just not great. Atmosphere is good, the service spectacular. Worth a try, maybe just wasn't our thing.

great place for BBQ

By jwnj2016 |

Suggested to us by the staff at our hotel. Their loaded baked potatoes are a hit with the locals that we seen there and abig hit with my wife. The brisket was melt in your mouth. Friendly staff and a great place to eat

A great find in Houston

By 472rickyk |

We went to the Stockyard Bar-B-Q when we visited Houston last month, the food was great, the service was great, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The Beef ribs were beyond delicious, the dirty rice had a nice kick to it and was great. We also tried the beef brisket, which was also incredible. The prices are very reasonable and the is quite a few choices on the menu. I don't know when I will get back to Houston but this restaurant which is in the Galleria are will be my first stop!!

Someone forgot how to BBQ

By KoaManiac |

Food would have been great but ALL the meat we ordered was ruined by tasting and smelling like INTENSE smoke. Stunk up the whole house and was inedible. Would have returned it and asked for money back but we drove home to eat it. Obviously this isn't how the meat is usually cooked, I must have come in on an unlucky day, but still - did not enjoy at all.

Excellent BBQ

By Frank W |

I go there frequently for lunch with my co-workers. The food is excellent and a very good value for the money. The atmosphere is very friendly and the owner personally greets you when he is there.

Oh man.... this place rockkkkkkkkkkkkkks!

By SportsReporter |

First time I've had Texas BBQ in Texas and all can say is yum! I usually order BBQ pork but I took the advice from others and ordered Beef Brisket. Why do they give you a knife? It's so tender you can cut it with your fork! $12.95 for one meat and two sides. GREAT DEAL. I went with the spicy sauce and oh yeah.... it was awesome. I also ordered their sides of potato casserole (it's like a loaded baked potato w/o skin and tons of cheese) and the cabbage. The cabbage tasted like apples.... DELISH. Highly recommend this place. We ate at around 11 and no one was there... we were worried we picked a bad place. Then the church crowd arrived 30 mins later and the place was packed. I also noticed they had the Excellence by Trip Advisor banner hanging as we left!

This was NOT the TX BBQ I heard so much about....

By ezbnqueen |

While here in Houston on business, we checked out Stockyard BBQ because all of the GOOD BBQ spots close by was sold out or had lines around the building. First clue that a restaurant may not be that good....no line or people in there at dinnertime....Hmmm... Anyways, I ordered a wet and supposedly sweet rib plate, with fried okra, and mac n cheese. I ll just say it was not wet or sweet, the meat tasted raw, there was no spicy or REAL smoke flavor on the rib, it was rather bland and boring. The fried okra was just okay, and the mac n something that resembled cheese was bland noodles with tons of gooey cheese drenched on it. Just not good at all! My hubby ordered beef rib plate. He wound up leaving his food...our tab was $32.27, and my hubby had $32.26 and the guy was really STERN abt the penny for this lousy BBQ! Wouldnt go back again...

True Texas Tradidtion

By Hosam H |

Best Brisket .. Let me repeat that again : Best Brisket ever .. And i had Brisket almost in every BBQ joint in the south .. Oh yeah and try the BBQ Wings , Heavenly !

Wood Fired BBQ - Old Style

By cadagility |

The interior is a bit dark. The menu is heavy on the meat side - don't expect anything in the way of salads. I ordered a brisket sandwich with a side of potato salad and a piece of corn bread. The corn bread was dry and inedible - I couldn't eat more than a bite without choking. No butter or honey provided that I saw. The sauce was served on the side was watery and had no kick at all. The meat was dry and flavorless. The potato salad tasted a little worse than what I would buy at my local Kroger's. Didn't taste fresh or in-house made. This is supposedly a local favorite. I can only assume the locals have never experienced decent BBQ.

Excellent !!

By Reagan S |

Partner and I went for lunch today and it was excellent. Every bite of every item was solidly on point and delicious. We had: Brisket, sweet ribs, beef rib, sausage, pinto beans, cooked cabbage, heart attack potatoes. Service was quick and polite, portions were a good value and the taste & temp of everything was exactly correct. I had been years back and really had forgotten about this place .. it was good then, seems even better now. Looking forward to going back.

Flavoursome and cheap !

By Lisa M |

My partner and I were a it apprehensive to try this however we got the 3 meats and sides with a side salad , the bbq beef rib and the pulled pork were cooked to perfection , the turkey breast was nice juicy and tender as well ! Portions are good and the staff are very helpful . A great start to our Texas holiday ! Will try and go back there if we get a chance !

Dinner out

By boilermonster |

Ate here many times I see most of their business is take out but dinning room is nice and roomy and clean place. Best BBQ I've had

Typical TX BBQ place, decent BBQ, sides, and tea

By dittymau |

Had a business meeting in Houston, and the northerners wanted to get some authentic BBQ, and located this place a short drive away. Our group on 7 ordered typical BBQ, brisket, ribs, beef ribs, and sides. Cafeteria line style, decent BBQ, nothing special. Would not go out of the way, as the typical Pappas BBQ restaurant is better...

Very Good Bar-B-Que

By Arthur E |

Service is fast. Free parking directly in front of restaurant. Bar-B-Que is great. Also about to follow the Astros on the larger screen television.

Great BBQ!

By Ellary M |

This is a typical TX BBQ restaurant - counter service, checkered tablecloths, condiment bar. The meat (pulled pork) was very tasty, and a nice size portion. They had some different sides, including "heart attack potatoes" which was diced potatoes with bacon and chives, quite yummy although the lukewarm temperature was not ideal. The staff was pleasant. A bit pricey compared to other places but quality and portion size justified it. Overall the food was good, portions are big and if you're in the area it's worth a visit!

Outstanding BBQ

By Vexter1 |

I had the brisket, turkey and ribs and mac and cheese. This place is spot on. Let's just say I'm heavily involved in BBQ and know good BBQ when I see it. I'd eat here again no problem. I even ate it all without the sauce - which is a compliment! It didn't need it. The brisket was dead on, the ribs were almost perfect (I got the sweet ones.) and the turkey was extremely moist. The service was a little on the slow side but friendly. The price was very reasonable for the amount of food. I would go back no problem at all.

Excellent BBQ

By Darren D |

I am very surprised by some of the reviews about Stockyard BBQ. I stopped there for lunch during a conference in Houston. I have one regret. I ate there during my last full day in Houston. I wish I had eaten there at the start of the week, because I would have had more days to return. The brisket was well-smoked and incredibly juicy. The flavor was great, and the sandwich was huge. The side of fries was also very good and generous. Too many TX BBQ places have one sauce that is too sweet. Stockyard has two great sauces - original and spicy. Both are excellent. I enjoyed alternating back and forth between the two great sauces. Great food and portions!

Great brisket

By Rafi M |

No frills BBQ place, order food cafeteria style and get it right away. Brisket, sausages, pulled pork, etc. Ample sides to choose. Tasty and if you want it spicy ask for the “picosa” sauce.

Da Brisket is Da Bomb!

By YYC_Foodie |

Always on the hunt for good BBQ, my travels landed me at the Stockyard BBQ. Set in a small building off busy Westheimer, the decor is nothing special and typical Texas BBQ. As soon as I walked in I could tell these guys were the real deal. Their massive Oyler smoker that hangs out the front of the store where it burns oak and pecan for the meats. I went with the three meat plate (includes two sides); brisket, dry ribs and pulled pork. A good size portion for $15 bucks. First off the brisket was one of the best I have ever had anywhere - bar none. Beautiful pink smoke ring almost a half inch thick. Lightly seasoned and heavily smoked which I love. They cook these things for hours and hours to create the wonderful texture. No knife needed. Da bomb! The dry ribs - a bit of a misnomer since they mean "unsauced" like Tennessee style rather than the saucy Kansas City style. They were not dry like the name suggests, just not gooped in sauce. Moist, tender and fall off the bone. Big side ribs done almost to perfection. Pulled pork was simply OK. You get a choice of sides and I went with Heart Attack Potatoes which are stupendously good - just paste them to your arteries. Also the fried cabbage was redolent with lots of bacon and a nice sweetness. One disappointment was the sauce. Not much better than watery ketchup in regular or spicy, They need to do as good a job on that as they do the beef brisket, Service was cordial, cafeteria style (typical in these sorts of places). Wash it all down with a cold beer and you have a winner of a BBQ joint. So far this is the best BBQ brisket I've ever eaten. Championship quality. If BBQ is your thing this is the place to go! Now go!!

Excellent choice for bbq

By LisaSD |

Great smokey pulled pork. Another in my party raved about the brisket. They have a cheesy potato side with bacon, also delicious. Everything is super fresh. You won't be disappointed.

Very very good

By Matthew C |

Went there for the first time last week and definitely enjoyed it. I got the 2 meat platter with brisket and sausage. The one thing I absolutely enjoyed were the heart attack potatoes. Best side dish from any bbq joint I've had in Houston. Overall 10/10

A little be to smoked

By larry157 |

Good service and prices but the Meat had strong smoky flavor also the brisket was overcooked.ribs tender and juicy boneless chicken also well cooked.

Very good BBQ

By Joe H |

This is a nice place to get BBQ in this area. The atmosphere is pleasant and the location is good, but a little hard to get to if you are going on the opposite side of the street. There is a good choice of meats and we tried several of them. The french fries are made to order, so they are definitely fresh. The brisket was especially good. They apparently make their own sauce and it is available in either mild or spicy. Enjoy.

It's all about them sides

By Eric L |

Meat was good, but the choice of sides made the meal. So many choices, so little room in my belly. And then I had to try the AWESOME banana pudding. Definitely going back often.

Like Butter To Die For

By exda85 |

Small to medium sized barely noticable Bar-B-Q on Westheimer amongst the many strip mini-malls and fast food joints BUT WORTH THE TRIP. Succulent, soft, rich, smoky, melt in your mouth sliced beef. Real unpretentious, cheap and tasty.

Meats!

By Johnny Trekkie |

Stockyard Bar-B-Q...its good, real good! Its not Houston's best BBQ, but it will certainly satisfy your Texas BBQ fix. Prices are reasonable, service is good enough, and Southern rustic decor will set you in the mood for your meat sweats. The $21 three meat meal is a lot of food for the money! Beef Brisket...good and smoky, but I've had better. Sweet and Wet Ribs...tasty and smoky, but wish they were more tender. Dry & Spicy Ribs...see above. But the rub is lovely!

Nice Ribs and Sides

By astropig |

Nice vibe to place as in no frills. Its about the meat. We were not disappointed - not a romantic event! Lots of people popping in for 'to go'

Yummmm

By JorgePKA |

Came for lunch and we had a delicious meal. We had the brisket by the pound and a brisket sandwich with a side of dirty rice. And had the stuffed jalapeños. The brisket was amazing. Good smoke on it from the wood. Dirty rice was tasty but a little over cooked. I would still order it again. The stuffed jalapeños were ok. Wasn't really feeling the cheddar on the brisket. I would not order them again but that is my preference. The place was clean and the bathrooms were spotless which is always a plus. The gentlemen cooking and helping us out were VERY nice and attentive! The staff always makes or breaks the experience! They have a good beer selection and good happy hour!

OK best I can say

By TAMAN1951 |

Chicken was tender and smoky. Jalapeño sausage fairly bland. Brisket juicy but fatty. Great coleslaw. Dirty rice a little dry. Nice selection of sides. A little expensive for plastic wrapped meats.

Best pirk ribs in U.S.

By Robert G |

The pork ribs "wet" are tender, loaded with meat, and super tasty. The service is fantastic, in if you call ahead, your food will be ready and all you have to do is go to the front counter and pick it up. There is so much meat on the ribs that 2 of them will be a great meal and fill you up. They have the best tasting pork ribs I've ever had to include up in Nashville Tennessee kumbha all over Texas, and even at home. Absolute wonderful stop.

SO SO.....

By Louise |

Came and expected great BBQ but Stock yard BBQ was a fail. All though the poritions are large the meat was dry and the sides fell short on flavor. The place was cute, clean had your typical smokehouse backyard atmosphere with Room enough for large groups. We ordered the two meat combos. Ribs, sausage, pulled pork and brisket can't say any was a favorite.

Very disappointing BBQ

By Tartarugas |

Very slow service, ordered the 4 sliders (pulled pork and brisket) and got two with turkey. My partner had similar although the fried okra was okay. The fries were soggy and limp (they obviously didn't have the oil temp right), but worse still the slider buns were stale, two were rock hard on the outside, and for that no excuse sadly. The pork had nice smoke flavor but it's simple slider with no sauce and coleslaw, so underwhelming and not to return, and not recommended, I guess there is a reason why car park is empty every time we go past

Best Beef ribs EVER!!!

By TravelLover0611 |

I'm still in awe of how amazing these beef ribs were. Typically I've always ordered pork ribs because most places can't get BBQ Beef Ribs right. I must say I've found heaven here on earth! I definitely recommend this place. "Oh and try the potatoes". You won't be sorry.

Houston, we do not have a problem

By lauriera |

My son and I visited Stockard BBQ today and were pleased with the grub. I had the pulled pork with original bbq sauce, which was tender and tasty. My son had the beef brisket and pork ribs. He loved the brisket and liked the ris, but coveted my pulled pork, already planning on coming back for it. The service was fast, the staff friendly and mostly enthusiastic. Great place!

Great find

By UmMazzin |

Driving down Westheimer on the 4th of July and looking for a late lunch, we saw Stockyard and decided to check it out. We were not disappointed! Based on other Trip Advisor reviews, I had the turkey & brisket. Both were excellent.

Always Delicious

By Robert2861 |

I have eaten at The Stockyard several times and the service is always friendly and excellent. The BBQ is excellent, tasty and always enjoyable. The sides are good and if you are looking for a great meal, try the BBQ Nachos.

Catching up with one of my good friends over a late lunch and this was so good.

By Lesley L |

The barbecue was excellent. I had the sandwich the brisket sandwich and it came on fresh buns. They get from a bakery. It was excellent! Also got fresh fried okra and everything’s generously portioned at great prices. My friend couldn’t get over thinking about the banana pudding and force me as a full person and she’s the skinny person and I’m the fat person to take a few bites. It was heavenly. I’m guessing the desserts probably come from a bakery as well, but it’s still not expensive like other places with not crowded. I wish they would not play country music but other than that oh my gosh, it’s delicious and you will be so full and still want to try more things!

Ok BBQ, amazing sides

By pickybiz |

Although Stockyard has OK BBQ, we come here for the sides. Do not miss the "heart attack potatoes", which are basically mashed loaded baked potatos and the Mac and cheese. Only enough they also serve chicken wings and they are great. Staff is not very fondly but incredible effcient. Good to eat there or for take out.

fave bbq

By CrewTraveller |

love this place so much, so affordable, good sized portions and delicious food, also a really good selection of soft drinks and beers. staff are super helpful and I'm from the UK I didn't know what some of the foods were but they were more than happy to help.

A waste of meat

By Rainer1908 |

We should have known when we walked in: the place was empty on a Saturday night...the menu is meat, meat, or meat, which is great, if it's done properly and with respect for the animals that were killed to provide the menu. I consider myself an avid meat eater, but prefer quality over sheer quantity. The piles of brisket were bland and lukewarm, the spareribs dry and tasteless, drinks and condiments are self service - it's really pretty gruesome and an insult to the animals that gave up their lives to end up on a plate in this place...

Way better than big chain bbq place down the street.

By Esquivel02 |

First time visiting and won't be the last. This bbq place did not disappoint. Beef ribs, brisket and sausage were very tasty. Our favorite was the turkey. It was not dry and had a really good smoky flavor. Another favorite was the rice with chunks of brisket. My kids favorite was the haystack fries. Spent a little bit over $100 it was a party of 4 with plenty for each to have leftover lunch the next day. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star rating was because the chicken did not looked appealing to neither one of us. Ordered the Sampler, haystack beef fries and a chopped potato.

Good Texas BBQ!

By Mariah C |

I'll admit that I judged this place when I drove up to the building. For me, the best barbecue has always been at mom and pop small shops and never at big, commercial looking places. Luckily, Stockyard BBQ proved me wrong! I wound up here after visiting another barbecue place who was nearly out of food at dinner time. Since they didn't have what we wanted, we decided to try stockyard. The first impressive thing was that they had every kind of meat available even at 6pm. My guests loved it because they were able to order any and every thing from the incredible selection- ribs, brisket, chicken, sausage, etc! The food was excellently prepared and the flavor was tasty even without sauce. Portions are unbelievably generous with a plate of 2 meats, 2 sides for $15. Sauce comes in mild and spicy- both are delicious. Sides include Mac and cheese, green beans, potatoes, and many more. My guests absolutely loved the food and even went back to compliment the chef and learn his secrets (the brisket takes 20 hours to make!) it was a great experience and i highly recommend for anyone in the Houston area looking for good Texas barbecue!

My favorite bbq in Houston

By Bill L |

I'm from east Texas. I've never been impressed by Houston BBQ. I mean back home you drive down a back road till you see a shack. You ask yourself "will I die of I stop here?" If the answer is "yeah prob'ly" then you know you found the best BBQ ever. You can't find that in Houston, we've got structural codes or something. Reviews tend to be skewed in Houston by all the people who've never truly experienced good BBQ. So it's hard to find good BBQ in this town. I rocked up to the counter totally expecting city BBQ, boy was I surprised. The stuff they have here doesn't quite reach deathtrap level of good, but it's dang close! So close that I'll stop by for a point or two of various meats to take home and eat throughout the week! If you ever come to a party at my house you can expect to see a pound of turkey, a pound of sausage, and at least two pounds brisket! There usually isn't any left by the end of the night. The sides are average IMHO, but one doesn't go to a BBQ place for plants. One goes for all the tasty stuff that eats plants! Get some brisket, get some sausage, get some turkey! Get the spicey sauce or even no sauce! Good either way. Probably the best BBQ in Houston.

Sweet

By Misty S |

I was on a buisness trip and logged on to trip advisor and found this restaraunt. My fiance and I got a cab from the Galleria and went to have dinner. We ordered the sampler with three meats. The ribs, brisket and sausage was all delicious. The potato salad I did not like, however my fiance did. The people were friendly and we got more than enough food for two people for about $25.

Summer 2018

By sanmiguelmak |

We had a brisket sandwich with macaroni and cheese and Cole slaw. All the 4 of us ordered the same sandwich for lunch with different side orders. No table waiters or waitress to serve you. The brisket was moist and soft meat. They have plenty of sauces and fixing to add to your sandwich to your own taste. Very quiet place during the day during lunch time. Dress comfortable and casual.

Excellent Bar-B-Q

By Kelleybbb |

Amazing food and customer service! We are visiting from Arizona and had to try some Texas BBQ. This was a great choice! I would return! I had the brisket and jalapeño sausage. They were both amazingly good and I tried my husband's spicy ribs which were excellent and they were spicy, they did not disappoint.

Really damn good!!

By Simon |

Absolutely amazing. You’ve really got to try this place and defiantly opt for the spicy sauce!! I don’t get to enjoy bbq very often but this makes me want to eat it every day (if my colon could handle it).

Really Good

We were in town waiting for our ship to leave the next day. We decided to give this place a try, and so glad we did. We had the Bar B Que Beef Ribs and Smoked Chicken. It was delicious. Our friends had the Hay Stacks with Smoked Chicken, and they loved them too. Friendly staff and excellent food.

Best BBQ and service in town

Delicious Chicken and Beef BBQ. Great sides, Mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. The smell is always incredible even from outside. The staff is very friendly and thoughtful. Viva Mexico😊

Go, go, go!!!!

Excellent, authentic bbq joint with the "hole in the wall" atmosphere. It has the appropriate Texas BBQ decor, yet isn't over the top and pretentious. Service wss quick and friendly, with reasonable prices. Didn't have to wait for hours, which was nice. Food (pulled pork, mac n cheese, dirty rice) was OUTSTANDING and the spicy bbq sauce to die for. I'm salivating at the memory. If I lived in Houston, or nearby, I would be a regular for sure. Excellent find.

Great Texas barbecue, sides, and margaritas! Oh my!

Only one night in Houston, wanted some great Texas Beef. This place was EVERYTHING!! Beef brisket with great sauce, awesome rice and beans, loaded baked potato salad and garden salad for sides, nachos with brisket was excellent, and we were there for Happy Hour, so $5 frozen margaritas to wash it down. Couldn’t ask for more!

Skip this one and thank me later

Those awesome reviews are not current. The food was nasty and the beef rib came wrapped up in plastic wrap. The food was room temperature and taste like it was cooked dats ago and warmed up. I should of know better when I didn’t see a full lot and empty restaurant.

If you like ketchup you better bring your own

By BIG D |

I thought the barbeque was decent, the prices weren't bad compared to most Houston area barbeque places. The French fries were plentiful and very good but they committed the ultimate sin of not having ketchup except in the little teaspoon tear open packages. They had two large pitchers of barbeque sauce you could help yourself to but they are too cheap to have a bottle of ketchup or a dispenser full. I did observe someone's chili and it looked to be all beans. Who puts beans in chili?

Great BBQ, may not be Houston's best

Houston is one of the best metros when it comes to variety of cuisines and quality of food in offer. However, when in Texas you gotta have at least one BBQ meal. Stockyard was my chosen stop, on this visit. I chose a two meat plate with two sides. Beef brisket and dry, spicy ribs paired with heart attack potatoes and garlic green beans completed my spread. It was a huge serving of food and I almost wished I had been starving all day. One of the complaints I had was while I wasn't paying full attention, the server dunked a whole lot of barbecue sauce on both my brisket and ribs. I would have liked my ribs dry. The brisket was very tender, juicy and perfectly flavored. The ribs were a little underwhelming, maybe my palette was compromised because of all the unwanted sauce. But the texture was a little off and flaky. I expect more from a highly rated Texas BBQ joint. The heart attack potatoes was truly heart stopping in more ways than one. And the garlic beans went great with the meat servings too. Combined with a local Karbach beer, I was quite happy with the meal. I wish I had the appetite for a peach cobbler. The interior is set up like a rustic smokehouse BBQ place, and was unusually dead on a Tuesday night.

Great Bar-B-Que

Nice relaxed atmosphere ... Great meat... Great sides....easy take-out. Cafeteria style... Meat cut right at order time.

Underwhelming

I stopped at this restaurant on a friends recommendation for an early Sunday lunch, right as they opened. It was a clean and friendly place (or at least the 2 people working there) and I got the brisket and the ribs. Both were dry and not that great (seasoning was ok but not exceptional). It was kind of like a generic version of both. The side were o.k., as well. I've eaten and quite a few of the most well known Texas BBQ places and this was probably my least favorite of them all. It was nothing terribly wrong just not that great. Dry meats and average "sides". I think I recall getting the green beans but can't recall the other "side". Sorry to give a less than stellar review and this WAS my one and only visit....maybe much different the next visit, but until then.....

Great Houston BBQ!!

Went here for the 4th with my friend after she told me about this place and mannnnnn, the food was delicious and so flavorful! I've tasted plenty of Mac&Cheese around in Houston but this spot takes the prize of being the best!! Their beef ribs were awesome and the overall southern hospitality from the staff was amazing! Pretty clean establishment, nice location, not too busy to go and enjoy a nice lunch/dinner with friends/family. I will be back to this place soon! It's honestly a must-go for some great BBQ in Houston!

Good BBQ

Generous portions of pulled pork and brisket. The Jalapeño Sausage has a nice kick. Great selection of local beer and sodas. Decor is standard bbq joint - red check covered tables and steer head on the wall. Chairs have seen better days though.

Wanted a quick bite to eat and some good BBQ! And of course got both. The cheesy potatoes are to die for.

A lucky find

This place casual, quaint, friendly and fantastic. And quite frankly cheap prices. This has got to be the best value Texas dinning experience in town. I had the beef ribs, brisk, banana pudding, garlic green beans, jalapeno biscuit and mac & cheese texas style. I rolled outta this place a full and happy camper.

Great Turkey!

I was looking for a decent plate of BBQ and they gave it to me. Very close to The Galleria with lots of options to choose from. BBQ Nachos and Garlic Green Beans were bomb! I'll be back!

Average BBQ

By yorosey |

Figured I would give a different spot a try for my Texas Beef short rib and jalapeño sausage. It was good bait very average the short rib was tough and really had to cut it, the sausage had little to no heat to it. Place was a ghost town when I got there, guess that should have been a sign but gave it a try anyways. Expect more when in Texas.

It’s ok

Soft tender ribs grossly under seasoned. Both the dry rub and wet and juicy ribs lacked much taste but were really fall off the bone tender. Not quite the experience I was looking for so not on my list for a return visit.

Good BBQ

My wife found this place while looking for Bar-B-Q places in Houston, TX. We tried it and it was great. You get a lot of food for your buck. I would go back again when we revisit Houston, TX.

Great Sides

By Livingmybestlife!0421 |

I had their beef brisket, which is good, with their hot barbecue sauce... The hot bbq sauce is quite spicy, so if you don’t like spice, stick with the mild. Nonetheless, the sides are absolutely awesome!!!!! I had the mac and cheese and the heart attack potatoes, omg........ to die for! The place is very casual and not expensive, so a great lunch spot!

Deeelicious!!

This was my first time walking in to stockyard bbq and I must say it won't be my last. I love BBQ and this place is pretty darn good. The meats were so tender and juicy. The brisket was my favorite. The ribs were so packed with flavor and falling off the bone. That dirty rice was hmm hmm good and the peach pie was just awesome. Staff was friendly and helpful. Next time I am craving that good Ole Texas BBQ, I will be going to stockyard .

GOOD FOR YOU BAR-B-QUE

By Mernie1 |

We live in Alabama and have heard how good Texas Bar B Que was from friends. We came to Houston to go to MD Anderson with my daughter. Bar B Que has kinda turned into a comfort food. The Bar B Que was really good. Different from Alabama but very good. The ribs fell off the bone the brisket was very tender and fell apart. It was very good. Will come back to eat on our next trip.

Perfect for lunch!

By luvs2btraveling |

We stopped into this no frills no fuss BBQ place while staying in Houston. Baked potato was perfect, brisket super tender and ribs fell right off the bone. What more could you need?!? Would certainly come back if we ever find ourselves in Houston again!

OK taste of texas BBQ

By GeminiStrike196 |

good BBQ, not so interesting side dishes, by 9PM, the place was empty, just our group and no one else, so cant judge whether it is a good place from local perspective. the portion of food is decent size, also had good selection of organic drinks, which is a big plus.

Better alternatives than this place

By Joe-Bob-69 |

Good value for what you pay. The price point is a bit high, but you get a lot of food for that. The BBQ is good with a variety of meats to choose from. Folks were nice and friendly. However, they need air conditioning. It was unpleasantly hot inside. I had a two meat combo - pulled pork and pork ribs. Ribs were very good. Pulled pork was super dry and overcooked. Sauce was good. Deviled eggs - awful and nearly frozen. Dirty rice was good. Bottom line though - I feel like there is better BBQ out there and I will try that. Not going back to this place

Good Bbq for lunch

By Familyof5_CT |

Casual place with cafeteria type service. Food was good. The dirty rice, cucumber salad and coleslaw were excellent sides. Portions of meat were ample. We were there on Saturday for lunch and there was no crowd.
