We visited Stogie Joe's after leaving Pat's Steaks since we won a "free beer" coupon during our Escape the 1980s game. Great location and we had a table by the bar. Friendly staff and they honored our coupon for a beer! All good :)

Excellent! The service is great, the food is great, the place is clean. We love it here and go often. Nothing is bad to eat here. Awesome house salad, Stromboli, mussels, clams, and oh the pizza.

We went with a friend who grew up in the neighborhood and we were not disappointed. The pizza was good, great selection of both draft and bottled beers and a full service bar. Beside a selection of pizzas and additional toppings, Joe's offers other Italian fare, salads and burgers. Bring cash, no credit cards.

My wife, son and I visited this place lots of times! I am now 48 but this place takes me back to the late 70s early 80's mom and pop corner bar and restaurant. Antipasto, pizza, pasta, sausage, meatballs, atmosphere and wait staff takes you back to a time when the South Philly neighborhoods were still neighborhoods.

This was one of my grandfathers places to go for Stromboli so when my grandmother said she was in the mood I could hardly resist. The salad was fantastic and so were the mussels and honestly there wasn't one thing bad on the menu we tried. The mango orange margarita was awesome as well. So if you get the chance go visit for my poppop Richard and enjoy every bite :)

Old school tavern meets new world. Clean and fun place to have dinner especially before a game or concert. Food was delicious - pizza was an upside down style and pretty tasty and the homemade gnocchi were melt in your mouth. It get's pretty crowded and you have to wait for a table since they don't take reservations, but it's worth it.

Four of us descended on this south Philly establishment prior to a Phillies game. Parking was at a mete on the street and not difficult. Enjoyed tomato pie, mussels, great baby back ribs and calamari. All paired with Dogfish 60 minute IPA. Friendly waitstaff and prompt service. I particularly like the garage door entrance to the restaurant where we sat.

Smack dab in the heart of South Philly true authentic dishes at reasonable prices. Loved the square tomato pie and the large house salad was plenty for a table of four! Beer and wine selection was great!

Food is awesome at Stogie Joe's! The stromboli is the best I ever had - and THAT salad. We love the pizza and the mussels (try the ones with the beans!). Great price on drinks too.

Service was terrible, food was less than mediocre.. Went there for the hype, will not be going back..

Born and raised in South Phila but haven't been back in awhile. Met a girlfriend I grew up with and was so happy we went to Stogie Joe's ..it was perfect. Greeted at the door by the friendly staff who quickly brought us our drinks. The menu was just what I was looking for..good ole South Phila food! I had the Escarole and bean soup which was so fresh and flavorful. Then I had Roast pork sandwich with broccoli rabe and cheese on a cibatta roll...it was out of this world scrumptious!! I'm getting hungry writing about it! We didn't have dessert we were too full but I plan on going back again soon! Check put their menu on line as they have lots of great meal selections.

The overall experince was fine while we were there. We sat outside and although I felt like I was eating in the middle if the owners family reunion (which I think I was) it was a nice enough time. The caesar salad was good, family sized portion. The meatball sandwich, which I'd read about, was fine...personally I'd take Wawa's over this one...sorry...true. The real bummer came later that night when I got sick. Hard to imagine it being anything else...my stomach was less of a fan than I...

My go to casual Italian spot in South Philly. Great Caesar salad, terrific rigatoni bolognese & I love their classic linguine with oil and garlic. Strombolis & their chicken wings (we like them baked) are great for sharing, they have a full bar & its a family friendly, loud and boisterous spot. Some outdoor seating is available& when the weather's fine they have a space where they open the glass doors wide & it becomes a great indoor/outdoor space. Cash only (an ATM is available).

We love this place. A great bar and right priced good food. Live entertainment Sunday, can be a little loud. Ralph and Jimmy the best bartenders anywhere! The food is exceptional, especially the specials, served after 5PM. Have to mention the great service, too.

Stopped in after a Phillies game. Very busy, but got table right away. Ordered drinks and different bar food. Got a great pizza and stomboli and had bring half of it home. Also got assorted sandwiches, which were excellent. Service very attentive and refills kept on coming. Reasonable prices and portions are large. Good place to have a good time.

The food here is terrific. My wife and I ate there and enjoyed are food. The hot (spicy) Stromboli was outstanding. It is a local watering hole with tons of personality. The pasta was delicious too. The portions are generous, but not belly busting. It won't drain your bank account either. We will be back again.

It's not what you think...the indoor seating has a glass enclosure so you feel like your inside a well-maintained garage. The food is awesome...thin crusted, cheesy pizza (great sauce) and appetizers buffalo wings, salads, all really tasty and the only way you can find out is by visiting "Stogie Joe's" for yourself... you won't be disappointed!

Went to Stogie Joe’s with Momma Dukes and my Stepdad. I’ll start by saying this; there are only a few places I would take my parents for lunch in South Philly. You have dinners and corporate chains which they love and I, well I don’t. There are steak shops galore, which are mostly fine, but we wanted to sit and get waited on, not get reprimanded for not ordering perfectly to some-places in house standards. There are also a lot of fantastic places that are open for brunch/lunch which I’m sure they would love, but I know some of the menus would scare them. What I mean is that, I need to find that happy medium. There are those places I love that they hate, and vice versa. But I want all of us to enjoy the meal, and none of us to panic while looking at the menu. Now, I’m not saying my parents aren’t up for trying different or new things, they just can’t be too different from what they are already thinking about eating when out. In other words, if they go to a diner they expect mediocre service, a million menu options, breakfast combos, tiny glasses of juice and gigantic portions. If they go to a bar-ish kinda place they expect fair portion sizes, wings, sandwiches, maybe pizza and great service. And if they are anyplace else they expect small portions, terrible service, food they don’t recognize and an open opportunity to complain about how they hate places “like this”. Stogie Joe’s has a great menu selection. They have all those items one would expect to see on a bar menu plus a lot more. And the menu options that you expect to see on a bar menu, aren’t lack luster items. Their wings, pizza and sandwiches are all fantastic. Way above average and way better that almost any other place out there. So my parents are excited, I’m not anxious and the only thing I’m even concerned about is parking. Can you feel the BUT coming? If so your right. The issue at Stogie Joe’s is the service. You know all that stuff you hear about people from South Philly and their attitudes and abrasive ness? And the stereotypical mom and pop joint that cater to certain guests and forget about the rest of the people in the place. Our waiter didn’t have an attitude, and neither did any of the other employees. But none of them seemed to care about anything but the temperature in there and these 4 guys at the bar, 1 of which was clearly the owner. My thing is this, if I’m the owner I’m sure I’d love all the attention, but I’d hate my guests getting neglected. Our waiter was absent, unprepared, inattentive and unfortunately even though the food runner, the host, the other three servers and the bartender all noticed he was struggling. Not one of them even attempted to help him. But everyone of them helped wait on those 4 guys at the bar. If they paid even half that much attention to the floor, this review would be a totally different story. But they didn’t, so it isn’t, and it’s a shame. I really like the place, but this just wasn’t a good day for the staff. Hopefully, this is the exception not the norm.

Stogie Joe's is a casual place where you feel comfortable eating at the bar or at a table (inside or on sidewalk). The staff were really friendly and understand how to turn a table over fast for waiting customers. Cash only restaurant.

My wife had read an article about Passyunk Street shopping and wantred to give it a try.....the shopping was good with some different shops. When we asked a local store owner for recommendation on a place to eat...she suggest Stogie Joe's Tavern. We were looking for something nicer than a Tavern to eat but since the Flyers and SEC championship game was on I figure it anything I would get to watch a couple of games. Wow were we surprised. My wife had a meatball sandwich and said it was the best meatball sandwich she ever had, and she knows her meatball sandwiches! I started of with the small house salad and could not be believe the quality of the salad, Then I had the Bolognese Rigatoni and could not believe how good it was, one of the best I have ever had! I thought the prices were right in line,,,,service was friendly but had to be reminded a couple of times for some requests like condiments and water. The downside my daughter had the burger and she said it was not very good. She did not tell me till the next day and I asked why did you not tell me that night she said "you and mom were raving so much about the food I did not want to spoil your meais"......So I would not recommend the burger but based on my wife and my orders...get any thing Italian and you should not be disappointed. One thing bring cash...no credit accepted...there is a nearby ATM machine. We will be back!

The taste old south Philly. Atmosphere, food, people, staff.......we love it all. Loud and crazy happy hustle bustle.

Was in town for a concert and we went here on the advice of some locals we were staying with. Place is tight, not large, and seems always packed, but I can see why. Good beers, GREAT pizza. Awesome Stromboli's. All around good time place. There was nothing to complain about. One thing I will disclaim: They were CASH ONLY. so be prepared. I believe there was an ATM on site.

We have eaten here three different nights and the food has always been excellent. We ordered different things each time. The stone fired pizza was crisp and baked with golden melted cheese and fresh toppings. The burgers were large with fresh veggies and a great bun. The chicken was spiced just right and still moist even thought baked. The place was always full but the staff handled it very efficiently.

Fun night with family at Stogie Joe's. My first time and would definitely go back. Everyone got different things but chicken cutlet and the special of pesto gnocchi were highlights. Waitress kept forgetting things but no worries!! Loved the chill vibe and the South Philly feel!!

Lunch with friends a few weeks ago. The place is a nice-looking tavern, and the menu is extensive for such a small place. Our food was prepared well and served hot, and it tasted great. Service was OK, the server was not the friendliest around, and they don't take credit cards. If not for these two things they would have merited five stars.

I am not a fan of chicken parm but one night for some reason I ordered it here and it was excellent and it covered the entire plate. Then again, if you love mussels they have a mussel in white or red with beans that is amazing. My wife and I lived around the corner for a few years and on Friday notes I would go and get a few orders with some good bread for dinner. But wait I forgot to mention the crab gravy that is almost as good as my wife's. They also have a decent selection of beer and wines to go with all of th great food!!

This is a great neighbourhood bar joint, all of the food was really good, the portions are huge and they have a copious selection of beers to choose from. This is a really interesting area to look around too.

This place is great. The bartender on Sunday's.. Makes a delicious Bloody Mary. The servers are friendly. The Stromboli is paper thin! The salads are huge and fresh! We get take-out from here as well. Always fast, super-friendly and piping hot food. One of the few places in East Passyunk where servers actually care & don't wear beanies & look disheveled while serving food. Thank you!

Fun dinner with family. Friendly neighborhood spot in East Passyunk. Good selection of low-priced sandwiches, pizzas and other bar food. Excellent beer and wine menus. Not a place for a quiet meal, though. It was extremely loud, but that goes with being a fun bar.

Nice neighborhood bar. Good food, drinks, nice atmosphere. The burgers are especially good. Can be a little noisey on weekends ,to be expected.

The pizza here is awesome. I think they were voted one of the top pies in Philly and it shows. I also enjoy their escarole and bean soup. The beer selection is great for a neighborhood bar. Loved the Nugget Nectar on tap.

First time visit, just walking by, thought to give it a try. Nice atmosphere and good service. Average prices and good selections. Food very good, great burger and good salad. Drink specials available and great location. If you are in the area, give it a try.

A group of us went their for the first time last night before the flyers vs penguins stadium 🏟 series game. Service was good. We had the Caesar salad as an appetizer and we got linguini and rigatoni pasta for the entree. Everything was delicious!!

First snow fall, good time for good food and a fireplace. Service a little strange , but certainly friendly. Great bean soup and salad special. Roast beef really fresh and tasty. Great place on a snowy day.

cant get enough of Stogie Joe's. Local, casual restaurant w great So Philly Italian vibe, complete w Philly accents. Pizza is great, Stromboli is a fave. Gets crowded at dinner time, but they move quickly. Cash only. Full bar.

I visited this restaurant based on a recommendation from Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. It happened to be trivia night, so the place was packed. We started with a few appetizers: the chicken wings were excellent, though I liked the sausage the least. The highlights were the pasta with gravy and the decadent vegetable and tomato pizzas. We also enjoyed some good local beers. It was a great night at the restaurant, offering comforting food

My fiancee and I stumbled on this place on the recommendation of a friend. We loved it! The muscles are incredible with beans! Everything is fresh and absolutely delicious; you would not expect this. All is all made to order the staff is very friendly. There is no decor but it doesn't matter because the food is so good. Every time we fly into of Philadelphia we stop there for dinner/late lunch. It is an extremely comfortable place. Did i mention that the food is exquisite? Try it, you'll like it!

Order the Stromboli or the pizza and you will not be disappointed. Anything made with the house gravy is fantastic. There are so many great food options that you will never tire of this place. They also have a large selection of beers.

We say the restaurant featured on DDD so we went to check it out. We ordered the pizza but was not at all impressed. It was way overpriced for the quality. We've had better pizza at Little Caesars. We took the pizza home and added some more cheese among other ingredients so that we could enjoy it. The crust was good but that's about it. We ordered a margarita and it was good. We just chalked it up to an experience.

I was on business at the Navy Yard and decided to venture out in South Philadelphia for a good Italian meal. I was wandering around looking for another recommended spot and when I found it, the restaurant was closed. I walked up to two older Italian guys sitting out on their stoop and ask them to direct me to someplace good. After asking me "how much money do you have in your pocket" they told me to go to Stogie Joe's about two blocks away on Passyunk. They said "good bar", "homemade Italian" and "no sh__ heads in there". Honestly how can you turn down a recommendation like that. I was not disappointed in any sense. I have since been there again and I plan to go back tomorrow when again I will be in town. I will review both visits here. The first time I was alone so I sat at the bar and had some extremely good raviolis topped with a vodka sauce mixed with porcini mushrooms. It was great. One after another local came in sat and ate, everyone talked to me and complained about the Phillies. Everything looked good. The meals were very reasonably priced. The second time I came with my boss and we split a house salad that was easily enough for two but we then ordered a second one because it was so good (salami, olives, fresh greens, big chunks of cheese). She had pizza and I had eggplant parm which was delicious. The Pizza is billed as one of the city's best and I have no evidence to dispute that claim. Again the price was right the service was great and they filled your wine glass almost to the rim. The setting is pretty basic and although it wasn't open a garage door on one wall obviously comes up to give you that street bistro feel. What's not to like.

Wow! We totally loved our food. We had the ravioli in red crab sauce. Soooo good. Then we split a delicious pizza. It had sopperssata , plum tomatoes and garlic. Oh that was really delicious. Next time we will try different things.

Had clams casino here and was totally disappointed. The y came in an aluminum cup no clam just chopped up whatever. For $12.50 they need a better recipe or take them off the menu

From outside it looks like any other tavern but once inside you find out it is anything but average. Great people and great times await you when you sit at a table and order one of their delicious pizza's. Of course there is plenty of beers and other spirits to choose from, but the company of others and the pizza are the best reasons to visit here. But remember to bring cash as they do not accept credit cards.

Great neighborhood spot. I've tried everything on the menu and have not been disappointed once. Great food at a great price. Can't make it there, they deliver hot and fast!

Good Italian food along Passyunk Avenue (figure that!). Great atmosphere, friendly staff; great standards, plus special treats on the menu!

Don't miss this gem-food is amazing-not expensive. Chicken cutlet sandwich is the best in town! Don't be put off by the crowd-you will thank yourself. Sonny is probably the nicest guy in south philly-bringing good food back to Passyunk ave-it's about time. Everything is delicious from the pizza to the mussels to the entrees, and the staff couldn't be nicer. If you eat at one place in town make this it-you won't regret it. Great food served by people who genuinely want to make you happy nut just take your money. We are here once a week and from talking to others it seems it is their place to be. If "Cheers" had a place in Philly this would be it.

I can't believe that this place gets so many good reviews. It's really awful. Expensive too. The burgers taste like they come frozen out of a cardboard box from Archer Daniel Midland, tasteless. They're served with two potatoes wedges. The steak and cheese was disgusting on stale bread served with nothing. I ordered a side of cole slaw that didn't come. Five of us had lunch. Three of us ordered soft drinks. The bill came to just over $80, and they don't take credit cards! Tax cheats?

If your looking for some of the best pizza on Passyunk go here the pizza sauce is on top! If your out of town you will get to experience the south Philadelphia vibe! Good luck! Lol enjoy! Get the square tomato pie!

Relaxed tavern, nice people, elevated bar food. Stogie Joe’s Stromboli was the bomb. Pulled pork fries made for a great appetizer. Definitely do again.

Can't wait to go back again and try main dishes. Stopped by while visiting with our daughter for some appetizers and pizza. Service was friendly and excellent. Good drinks. Red sauce on pasta side dish was excellent. Delicious house antipasto salad. Rectangular pizza with sauce on top of cheese which in all my years I've never seen before but it was wonderful. Daily specials.

I grew up just blocks from the corner of Passyunk and Moore. This little South Philly tavern has been many things through the years, but for the last several years it's been "Stogie Joe's". Though I have been in there many times, I just never thought to write a review. I kind of just took it for granted. For many years it was a hangout for the locals, with great roast beef and pork sandwiches - my mom used to go there! Passyunk Ave. has undergoing quite a renaissance in the last decade, and has exploded with fine quality restaurants - not all of them Italian. Stogie Joe's is mostly Italian. Having said all that, whenever I visit the old neighborhood, we usually find ourselves back at Stogie Joe's. For starters, at least from the outside, it is not really impressive. There are a few sidewalk tables - the Passyunk Ave. sidewalk is only a few feet wide with lots of foot and vehicular traffic. Still, walking by, I noticed that a couple of guys sharing that great square pizza, and we just had to go in and get a bite. There are two indoor eating areas: one has door-types openings to the outside so it has a kind of outdoor patio effect, the other is the main dining area, beside a relatively large and always busy bar. The menu is a mix of Italian favorites - pasta, pizza, seafood, chicken. The spaghetti and clams is great. I also love the spaghetti with garlic, oil, and anchovies. (you don't have to be Italian to order this, but it helps). Our party did share the small square pizza, half pepperoni. it is a classic tomato pie, and is not topped with cheese unless ordered. great sauce! I had a house Chianti and dug in. Service is kind of iffy to be honest. that is not a problem for us because we just don't care about some things. the place can fill up rather quickly by 5PM, and in a small place like this, it seems the servers are running all the time. (By the time we finished dinner, there was not one seat to be had in the place) So given the staffing, they did fine. Our server did give us our check, but we were not ready to leave yet, so we had some coffee and Sambuca, which was not put on our check. we did tell the server, though. It was only fair given how reasonable the prices are and we have had the same server before. The bathrooms are small - almost like an afterthought. The basic layout of the places is a lot like it has always been, and there just is not a lot of room to expand. They do not take credit cards. there is an ATM machine. There is nothing phony about the place; everything seems to be home made, and in good tradition. Prices are fair, and the food is excellent. We keep coming back.

We met friends here one night and we found the food to be amazing. The staff was very helpful and upbeat. We will definitely return and can't wait to introduce the place to others. This is a great hangout in a great neighborhood. Great people, great service, great food, great time.

If you want a delicious tomato pie, this is the place! Its a small place so be prepared to wait if you go on the weekend. It's nice to just grab a drink while you wait and enjoy the South Philly atmosphere.

Great little local spot in South Philly. Service was good and the food was excellent. The Pizza which is done backwards to most - Cheese first then the sauce was delicious. The stromboli was amazing. The atmosphere was great...lots of locals. they had great specials too.

Very fun environment. Staff is super friendly. Great place for a bite and a drink. Location is perfect for a day of fun. Military friendly

Good food at decent prices. A no-frills atmosphere but for a good tasting sandwich and a drink it fits the bill. Outdoor seating in the warm weather is a plus!

This is a nice place to meet friends, or people watch if you get a seat by the window. The pizza and the crab gravy were a bit overhyped, and while good, were a tad disappointing, given the hype. Everything was well made. Drinks menu was solid, as was the service.

My wife and I recently were in Philly shopping and visited Stogie Joe’s for lunch. Parking is a little tough, but this place is well worth the effort. We enjoyed our meal and the service was outstanding. This is a great bar and restaurant and we would recommend it.

I like the sandwiches at Stogie. I only dine in when the music is low. Sometimes it is way too loud. The big open room with the fireplace is just right for a casual dinner. On occasion they have a band play outside. Staff is very friendly and makes you feel at home.

Got to love this place. Sitting outside in nice weather and drinking in the ambiance of South Philly. Characters sitting outside .and exchanging comments with passerbys. Great food love the chicken parm and meatballs. Good service and cold beer. Try it out, you will have a good time.

This Area of Philly is a hip and fun place to go after work with colleagues. Stogie Joes is an old school Italian pizza restaurant and sports bar. High recommend the Square Pizza!

I have been to Stogie Joe's 4 x's now. The food is always great. I have tried the pizza which is awesome, the stomboli, soup, wings, ribs, pork sandwich, beef sandwich they are all delicious. The atmosphere is great and I love the garage seating in the winter with the fire place and in the fall with the garage door open. Always a hit never a miss.

I live here in the neighborhood but I with all the new restaurants in the area, I just think this place would give a traveler a real experience of a local south Philly spot. Try the Pizza, its pretty awesome! Hope you enjoy your time in Philly!

Spring Friday pregame beers and bites. Very friendly waitstaff. Cold beer. Wonderful mussels and broccoli rabe. What more can you ask? This place is known for its pizza, but we opted for a variety of other tasty favorites..roast pork sandwich, chicken parm...grilled pork chop...even salmon. All were really satisfying. The mussels I had for an appetizer were tiny and tender...just the way they should be...in a fabulous tomatoey/garlicky broth that could have stood alone as a soup. Just great. Definitely will be back.

My mom and grandma were great South Philly Italian cooks. If they were still around they would love the food here. All of it.

Stogie Joe's, is a bar/pub/restaurant in the heart of South Philly, in the heart of East Passyunk. Its the BEST home cooked italian in the city and the price could hardly be better. You would never expect anything from looking at the place but you will be VERY surprised. Its about 75% italian with some other tavern things thrown in but it is 100% south philly. The waiters are fantastic - but remember you are in South Philly. Also beware it can get loud and very crowded as its also a bar (complete with Frank Sinatra night). Here dishes that can't be missed (i eat here very often): Stogie's Stromboli Tomoto Pie (reversed pizza): I recommend sausage and broccoli rabe The ribs! The steamers Caesar Salad Liguini in clam sauce Go and enjoy! (though I'd hate it to get more popular)

Giving it 4 out of 5 because it's lively, fun and great place to people watch in South Philly! We were here on a Sunday afternoon to get some drinks and food and hear the Frank Sinatra guy. I think the singer was at the Bar as much as he was in his little area performing but he was great. He obviously loves what he does and gave the place a happy vibe when he was singing. Wine here is certainly not stellar but I'm not a beer girl so I had the chianti. The mussels were good and so was the pizza was not horrible. The best part of this place is just seeing the other patrons in action. Lots of older Italian men hanging out socializing. We had a seat outside after the Sinatra show was over and saw lots of characters pass by during those few hours. Staff is nice. Place can get very very crowded. It was a good addition to our Passyunk Ave pub walk. Pretty sure it's CASH only so be prepared!
Just okay...
The food was alright...quite expensive though. The service was pretty good though. The atmosphere was actually really comfortable.
