Dec 30 Lunch

By TexTTraveller |

We have dined here once before and liked it a lot. So we tried it again. They were not real busy so we were not expecting to wait much for the appetizer or food. We ordered the nachos, like before, and they took a very long time to arrive. I made a point of telling the server to not immediately bring the food as we wanted to eat the nachos first. The nachos are great, like last time. I had the grilled cheese the first time and ordered it again. The first time it was excellent, hot off the grill with hot melted cheese and a crisp crustiness to the grilled bread. This time it was apparent the kitchen had cooked the meal at the same time as the nachos and just put it under the heat lamp. This was very disappointing as the first time it was so excellent and this time so mediocre. The cheese had started to harden and the bread was softening and limp. Definitely under the heat lamp. This is a real nice place with a good mix of meals. They may have too many choices for the kitchen to execute properly. Our first time here I considered it very good, this time average and the only reason they got that is the nachos were excellent, again. The manager needs to insure the kitchen paces the food properly. We will dine here at least one more time.

My kids' favorite

By dtrain7 |

I've gone there several times and I can talk while my kids are entertained with the many flatscreen TVs filled with live sports in HD. I can't get over there burgers and seafood, and they have a nice patio to enjoy the view. It's perfect for groups. I was also surprised when the steak was incredible. I highly recommend Stonewerks for your family

Friday Night Lights

By Mike B |

This is a great place to meet for drinks and dinner....has indoor and outdoor seating with a fireplace outside. Often has music but has a great vib, with TV's for sports if you wish. They don't turn on the sound on the TV's so it does not interfere with conversation. They have a happy hour lots of finger foods....

Great family restaurant

By 208joe |

I have enjoyed great lanches at Stonewerks. The food is very good. Staff is very friendly. The steaks are good, but I have enjoyed the filsh dishes the most. Very imaginative and tasty.

Terrible service until another employee stepped in.

By 1stepup |

Service was terrible. We were sitting on the outside patio which was nice with the fireplace. Had to go inside to find someone to help us place order. She was awesome and continued to serve even though that was not her assigned area . Food was good and they have a very nice Happy Hour . This was not my first experience with poor service at Stonewerks . Other than that it's a nice place to go .

Patchy

By Graham609 |

A couple of weeks ago we had lunch at Stonewerks for the first time and were delighted. We sat at the bar and nothing was too much trouble for the lady behind the bar. The food was very good and the service truly immaculate. Because we enjoyed ourselves so much, we took 2 friends back there to lunch today. This time, we sat in the smaller of the 2 rooms. The service was really poor. The food took forever and the waiter showed no interest whatsoever. One of our starter plates was presented dirty. None of the oysters was cut properly, the whole plate was swimming in water and there was no oyster fork. The soup spoon was jammed under the soup bowl. All fairly basic stuff for a waiter who cares about his job. We were really disappointed and regret that we will think twice about going back to see which is the true face of the restaurant.

love the food but waiting 50 minutes is not good

By skylanders |

our waiter was delightful and apologized over and over for slow kitchen..the manager never came till my husband stopped him ...we will go back but very disappointed and nothing was offered to us to ease the pain of the long wait and ensuing headache for a guest. An appetizer next time, we have had a meal compt'd when having to wait that long, when we arrived they were NOT busy...I felt sorry for the nice waiter, not his fault but very poor service all the way around, I seldom ever give a negative review but was glad it wasn't NEW guests as not a pleasant time.

Framily night

By Dawn H |

About the same as a "BJs". Menu ( food and drink)is expansive ... almost too many options. We were a party of nine ... food ranged from oysters to pasta. We made a wide variety of choices. Unfortunately the details of requests were not accommodated ( no gravy on kabobs, gravy on side , hot pepper flakes etc). Honestly the dripping condensation was the least of our concerns with this experience. The rotten service is what sealed the deal to not return to this location . Really disappointing experience. We won't return with so many other options around the city.

Disappointed

By DebbieW207 |

2 of us went on a Monday evening for our anniversary dinner. We were using the $15.00 gift card that was emailed to us. The waiter was either having a bad day or just did not care. We ordered the rueben sandwich, which took forever, I ordered the oyster/shrimp half order and a side caesar salad that I told the waiter was my main entree. Salad arrived, waited, tray of seafood arrived, waited for my husbands sandwich, could not locate our server, looking around I waved him over and where was my husbands sandwich, " Oh they didn't bring it?" ( found out if you order from raw bar the ticket is separate from the main kitchen) His sandwich was left @ the raw bar. So we waited again. Then while enjoying the seafood, the oysters were great, shrimp not so much, very hard to peel, missing the usual offering of crackers, napkins, hand wipes, whole experience was a struggle. There was not an offer of apology, nada. It was not even busy !

Great Pizza

By Gail W |

Service at the Stonewerks has always been stellar when I have eaten here. The staff is helpful and friendly. The atmosphere is nice. I pretty much stick to the Margherite pizza which is terrific. Friends with whom I dine have had burgers and salmon and the meals always look good and are pronounced to taste good by my friends.

Bad food, slow service

By Divascribe2 |

I ate dinner here on a Sunday night with my book club. Yes, we were a big group -- 18 in all -- but we made and confirmed a reservation with the restaurant well in advance, so they knew we were coming. Regardless, we had only one overworked waitress to take and deliver our orders. The woman sitting next to me and I both ordered sangria. What we received was extremely watered-down, to the point that we couldn't taste the wine. I ordered a calzone, which arrived with the dough underdone. It didn't taste good. The woman sitting next to me said the soft tortillas in her shrimp tacos were so hard and chewy she couldn't eat them. Other diners in our group complained about their food, though to be fair not everyone was dissatisfied. Two women in the group did not get their food when the rest of us did. Finally, the waitress came over and explained to one of the women that her burger had been accidentally served to someone else. She left in disgust without having had anything to eat. The other woman got her food when the rest of us were about finished eating. I have eaten at StoneWerks in the Vineyard (Blanco Road and Loop 1604) a couple of times and did not have these problems. I don't know if this was just a bad night or if this is the normal state of affairs, but I am very disappointed with this location of StoneWerks. The restaurant was not crowded, and there should not have been problems with inadequate wait staff and poorly prepared food. Our group won't be going to this location again, and neither will I.

one of my favorites

By luvmy32000 |

this place has good food, pretty cheap, and a great bar scene. I loved the original one that opened up by the Quarry, but it has been too successful, and now there are three.. oh well.

always a hit

By skylanders |

we enjoy the food here, go often, really appreciated the patience with the waiter when my husband couldn't make up his mind. vegetarian options ,,, was nice as he didn't feel pressured just because rest of us had ordered. We are always made to feel comfortable and love the food and desserts although have to pass often as trying to lose those dreaded last l0 pounds. options for me are great, the salad small pizza or salad and amazing chicken porblano soup..great lunch choice for dieters.

Best Service Ever

By Sheila J |

This was our first visit to StoneWerks and if we lived in San Antonio we would make it a regular dining choice. We LOVED it. We stopped here for lunch immediately after arriving at San Antonio airport and enjoyed their new turkey chili and salad/sandwich combo, all of which were excellent. The best part of the meal was the service. Having travelled on many cruises as well as having dined at the Culinary Institute of America in New York, I compare good service to these venues. Our waiter at StoneWerks delivered service that exceeded either of those; truly the best service I have ever encountered. When we first arrived we mentioned to him that we heard the daily cobbler special was blackberry and that we planned to have a lighter lunch to give that dessert a try. When we completed our lunch and he cleared the table, we expected him to check back with us to order the dessert. Instead, he surprised us by bringing the dessert already prepared a la mode and with two spoons for sharing, exactly as we would have ordered it. This blackberry cobbler was heavenly and the presentation of it to us was perfect. We highly encourage anyone living in or visiting San Antonio to enjoy a meal or two at StoneWerks.

An Old Standard! Close and Convenient to Our Home

By Englishprof2014 |

Stonewerks is always a happening place; even for us senior citizens, it is loud at times but always high value for the money! Our last trip included an anniversary dessert on the house. I do caution, however, that the shrimp and oyster cold bar is inconsistent, and our latest large order had shrimp that were a bit dry and the oysters very small. The management always stands behind the food and service, and we have never been disappointed. Our Rotary Club has some of its happy hours at the grille, and the service and libations rock!

Excellent fried mushrooms

By Patricia G |

Every time we go there we order the mushrooms they are delicious. My friend ordered a club sandwich and I must say it was beautiful if a sandwich can be beautiful. It was delicious with fries I believe it could have fed four people. The service was very good not over bearing and had my to go order ready on the spot. I ordered a calzone to take home and it was great with a bottle of wine. A little loud but after all this is a sports bar atmosphere with a large bar area and a great outside dining also weather permitting,. All in all a great place to frequent.

Amazing outdoor patio, great happy hour.

By Bellie |

We love the new Stonewerks in Lincoln Heights. The patio is great even in the winter with a large fireplace. They have a daily happy hour with drink and yummy appetizer specials. I love the oysters Rockefeller. Which are not on the HH special but still a bargain and delicious. The sashimi tuna salad is wonderful too. My friend enyoyed the flatbread pizza. The service is great too.

On the EDGE of perfection but um, well kind of raw on the door

By Longfeather |

First and most important the food and employees are great, attitude perfect and very patron oriented. Bravo. Menu is quite interesting and prices are $$-$$$ depending on your taste and preferences. Now to the nitty-gritty. I visited twice at lunch. I have not been there for dinner. So bear in mind this is not a global review but there are certain issues at cafes I look at carefully. First is sanitation and cleanliness. StoneWorks door pulls were covered with 1/32 to 1/16th inch deteriorating handle paint and cakes of hand oil. There is indication that it was being scraped off or sanded in some places where rust had built up. Efforts are being made clearly but not conclusive. Perhaps they need to hire a contractor to strip the door handles and really clean them and have them powder coated with a hard surface and then cleaned daily. This nasty door pull issue is really not ok. Past the doors the staff is wonderful. We found the lunch music was far more fitting for happy hour as it was too loud. The staff was happy to take us to a more quietly located table. I recommend their "flat bread" which is like a rectangle crisp pizzy plate. Have one your first vistit as it is a specialty and only $$ at lunch. The doors are a turn off. Thus only 3 stars. Less music level at lunch and cleaner entry gives them four stars. Fix it. I like the place otherwise.

Worst Steak

By Jocelyn G |

Anyway, thought we would try this over Longhorn. Splashed out and went for a big juicy piece of Ribeye, WRONG move. I only got 5 small mouthfuls because it was all fat and gristle. Clearly the cook doesn't care, otherwise he simply wouldn't have cooked it and served it up! No quality control and a waste of money. The two stars I'm giving is only for the lovely waitress we had.

If I could give it 3.5 I would - It was a little better than average

By KickBak-n-Yak |

The food was great, probably some of the best artichoke spinach dip we've had. We also had the half and half beef/chicken fajita nachos. chicken side great, beef side - just ok. salsa was good. Our server was nice but slow. We were in there on a Saturday which is usually pretty crowded b/c of football; but yesterday was slow as well as the service. I think they should be a little more on top of it for the price.

Classy, upscale and reasonable casual dining

By colleen C |

We were a group of two out of town visitors and 3 locals gathering over a couple of hours. On a Tuesday evening, we wanted light fare and drinks as we reacquainted and told stories of old and new. Our waitress patiently attended our needs as guests entered and left sporadically. The drinks were plentiful and we ordered two flatbreads, Tuscan and Mediterranean, which were huge and delicious. Couldn't recommend this place more. I understand other locations are just as good. Wish we were there for dinners. The menu looks great!

I love the oysters and chicken wings

By jpmfv@hotmail.com |

This is a restaurant I always visit on my way back to my brothers house in SA. I love the wings and oyster are really good too. Perfect place to grab a cold beer and relax.

Sports bar with great beer selection

By Cris Moreno-Garcia |

This place is one of our favorites because we have many beer options while watching games. The wings are good with beer!!!

Great Lunch with Friends!

By danmurphy90 |

We took an elderly couple from an Assisted Living facility for a nice lunch! The staff was very accommodating from beginning to end. We tried to encourage them to split a meal but they each had the monstrous burgers. Food was great but need smaller portions for seniors.

What a Burger!

By Donald H |

My wife and I wanted an easy Friday evening so we went for a glass of wine, a beer and some comfort food. Reading the burgers were eight ounces unless one "boulderized" it to a full pound, my wife opted for the chicken quesadilla. I stayed the course and ordered a Werks burger which had blue cheese, carmelized onions and cheese. I substituted a house salad for the fries appealing to a little common sense. I ordered the burger medium thinking it would probably come out medium rare. Instead it was medium well. It was the only disappointment. My wife found the quesadilla perfect with great condiments. She would order it again. The salad was very nice with a tasty vinaigrette and a nice assortment of greens. If you have a hankering for a burger or some other comfort food this is a good choice. Service was also exceptional.

Good food-good company!

By Sandy H |

Lunch with friends, celebrating a birthday, was great! The service was quick and the food was good. I had fish tacos....delish!

Never Disappointing

By Aunttabby |

Stonewerks at the Quarry is one of my favorite places to eat. I took a group of 10 here recently and the food was very good as usual. We had drinks and lunch and chatted away a couple of very pleasant hours. They have every kind of food you could want so everyone kind find something wonderful on their menu to eat. My favorites are the wedge salad, turkey chili and brownie a la mode but my dining companions had everything from hamburgers to pizza -- the servings were large and delicious.

Lunch Pretty Good/ Cobbler was Fabulous

By peteroo820 |

North Boradway location is newer with plenty of parking. I was a guest of a business associate's family and my first time at this restaurant. We had lunch on Saturday. The venue features rotissierre chickens cooking in a special oven visible in the main dining room/bar. Lunches were ordered inclding checken strips, grilled shrimp platter, fish tacos and fiah & chips. All enjoyed their meals. My fish tacos were sort of messy. Service was prompt and very attentive. Tea and ice water were plentiful. Next came dessert. The cobblers of the day were Cherry and Apple. We ordered one of each for the table and sampled both. Both the Cherry and the Apple were over the top "Great!" Good lunch spot or just an afternoon dessert!

My favorite place

By Lynette M |

This is my go to restaurant. I love sitting on the patio, drinking wine and having a very good meal. Don't care for Friday nights because it gets very busy and noisy.

Great dinner tonight!

By June C |

Met our San Antonio family here for a great dinner tonight. Our relatives recommended it since we’re from out of town. We all enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. So are glad they chose this restaurant. Three of us had burgers/fries and one ordered steak. Received great service from the hostess, our waiter Michael and even a friendly lady employee who helped us to exit through the slightly heavy door. Menu had many choices and think we would enjoy returning next trip here.

UNSURPASSED ATMOSPHERE AND SERVICE

By Brian D |

This restaurant is perfectly located in the Alamo Heights area just inside Loop 410 at the intersection of Broadway and Basse. It has a great menu that is moderately priced and has great seating at the bar as well s a covered patio and other inside table seating. If you sit at the bar, you will receive unmatched professional service, especially if your server is Kris K who is extremely knowledgeable as she knows everything there is to know about the menu and the large variety of draft beer choices. You can count on having a great meal / occasion every time you choose this restaurant!

Great Food Friendly Pub

By MichaelBernst2 |

Having moved here from Ohio I discovered Stonewerks and it has become my favorite local neighborhood "spot". Great oysters, cold beer, friendly staff and great place to watch sports. Go there. You will love it!

Food was mediocre

By connie e |

Attended a function at Stonewerks and was served the house salad with dressing that was overly salty, and a chicken fried steak with coating that made it almost twice as large. The chicken was very dried out and the only taste was from the highly seasoned coating. The wait staff were less than enthusiastic to take drink orders. I was not impressed and probably will not return.

Great food, service and atmosphere

By flyin4fun |

They also have great music! This is a great place!!! We've been several times this trip and all of our food has been great! From their flat bread, to their burgers and sliders, to their pizzas and fish tacos, everyone was a happy eater!!! Our cocktails were also spot on. Great dry martini and cosmo! Don't leave without having their frappuccino pie or their cobbler. Delicious!!!

Awesome place to go!!

By Cindyrodriguez |

I really enjoy coming here for dinner and drinks with my family. The hostess was very friendly and sat us quickly. Also our waiter was very patient with us and offered us suggestions on what to order. (Which I always like to ask the employees) also the atmosphere is enjoyable and will definitely be coming back soon.

Nice Dinner

By Ron K |

Started with the Chicken Poblano soup (cup size), which had just the right amount of spice. I had the Pulled Pork Tacos and my wife had the Fish Tacos. We had plenty to bring home after the large soup. We could not resist the cobbler after reading the favorable reviews. It was spot on, Blueberry cobbler with ice cream, can't beat that!

Great Happy Hour!

By MikeyD2211 |

Stopped by for a cold beer and an order of the deviled eggs. Would recommend for Happy Hour! Good service and good food.

Decent Food and Friendly Service_DvB

By Kaiser_D |

This is a very good for family dining establishment. Booth seating and large portions, as well as the noise level ensured children didn't distinctly intrude on other diners' experience. The server even brought ice cream for the two children at no charge after the meal. We started with a half dozen oysters and half dozen shrimp which are difficult to do poorly. As long as the ingredients are fresh, it is fine--and it was fine. The margarita I ordered was large and refreshing. The Big rock nachos were large enough to be shared by two people and the Kobe burger was delicious. Overall, I shared the sentiments of other reviewers. The menu is a bit unwieldy and I wouldn't go out of my way to dine there on a visit to San Antonio, but would definitely go back with family.

Outstanding

By Angie R |

Great service and delicious fried shrimp! This was my first time to visit and I will be coming back. The atmosphere was good for families and friends. Try the spinach artichoke dip with the focaccia bread! You won't regret it.

Bad lunch experience

By Ricardo M |

Lunch was dry and not satisfying, it was so bad that I had put a goole review as well. I thinks it's the overall lunch staff. They don't care for there customers.

Local

By jodie H |

Wow I don’t even know where to begin it was the most awful experience we’ve ever experienced in San Antonio Texas the service was good the atmosphere was terrible the food was terrible the ambience was loud and noisy bright kids running around us it was chaotic it was unbelievable

Better than Average

By Christy B |

We arrived for an early dinner at 5:30 so we were seated promptly. The ceviche appetizer had a little too much lime juice but the fish was fresh. Our food was very tasty and our waiter was attentive but not overbearing--- which is how we prefer to be served. The atmosphere was fun and cozy. This place is a good step up from the usual boring San Antonio fare.

Not gluten-free friendly

By Aunttabby |

I had lunch here with 3 members of my dining out group, one of whom checked the on-line gluten-free menu to make sure there were things she could eat. When we arrived, they could not provide her with a printed gluten-free menu so she had to order from the regular menu. She ordered shrimp tacos and asked the waitress if they were gluten-free and was assured they were and were on corn tacos. When they arrived, I pointed out that the shrimp had a coating on them. So back to the kitchen they went and she had to sit there with nothing to eat while we ate our lunch - she reordered fish tacos and it took a really long time for them to arrive at the table - after the rest of us had finished. Stonewerks needs to educate their staff on gluten-free, especially since they are promoting themselves as offering a gluten-free menu, plus they need to have copies of it available in the restaurant. This is too good a restaurant to drop the ball like this.

great bar and grill with terrific service

By bbbuttercup |

i eat here frequently. i really like their philly cheese steak sandwich. the stuffed mushroom appetizer is also a winner. the flatbreads are very tasty! i always sit at the large u shaped bar and get great service. the bartenders are very experienced. they definitely hustle as this place can be busy. there is pleasant outside seating also. they also have an oyster bar that is quite popular.

Great burgers

By Karl A |

We had Sunday lunch and caught part of the Cowboys game. It's a fun place to eat from a wide menu selection. We had burgers and beer. Service was what stood out on this visit. Our waitress did a great job and the manager was busy visiting all the tables. It is good family type restaurant. It's not a sports bar, but they do have tv's everywhere.

Something for everyone and it's all good

By MuffetB |

I've been here for lunch several times. The service has been good and the menu is nicely displayed. There's literally something that anyone would like - soups, salads, sandwiches, big burgers, flat breads, fresh gulf oysters, steaks, comfort food, etc. I especially like their chicken poblano soup, which I might not have tried were it not for the waiter's recommendation. Portions are good, and the soup + 1/2 sandwich (tuna) is a nice lunch. Save room for dessert - the frappuccino pie is excellent!

Good Sports bar

By Cris Moreno-Garcia |

My husbands loves to eat here the wings, but personally I enjoy more trying different kind of beers while eating snacks. The kids love the chips and cheese!

Disappointing

By Rebe1221 |

Went there with friends. Service was slow and inattentive. Drinks were never filled until they sat empty for awhile. The food was mediocre at best. Will not put this on my return to list.

Disappointed

By LLB79 |

The young ladies at the reception desk did not have a customer friendly attitude. My daughter and I stood before them for a while before being acknowledged as all 3 young ladies talked. We were out to celebrate my daughters accomplishment at the end of her junior year in college. The waiter saved the day by having a better attitude and above average service. Reuben sandwich was good (average). I plan to return at least one more time.....

Best Waiter Ever!!!

By A_Senzig_Howard |

Evan is the best Waiter ever. He was very professional but very engaging and fun. The food was amazing but the experience due to Evan's service makes me want to come back to San Antonio and eat here again. In case anyone is wondering, the fried pickles have the perfect pickle to breading ratio.

Good Place for Lunch

By BluePlate-Now |

Their menu has something for everyone and our waiter was excellent! It had been awhile since I have eaten at a Stonewerks. Enjoyed the Tortilla soup and the chicken salad sandwich was perfect. Go early for lunch as they do get busy! It was a nice return to Stonewerks!

Great Oysters and Beer

By Mike B |

Always one of the better places to eat and watch sports, many tv's. Outside seating is good as well with heaters and a fire place. They have excellent food overall, pizza as well. They have a wide selection of beer, we are always trying something new...
