Burgers and beer!!

By Claude G |

We stopped at the recommendation from our hotel desk attendant. My wife and myself had two different burgers that were excellent and the recommended beers to go with them. They have a extended selection of craft beers and the burgers are delicious.

Great Beer Good Burgers Handsome Waiters

By carol c |

Boys and girls, go to Stout Burger. They have many choice of beer ( and these change weekly). You can try the one you think you'll like in a shot glass. If you indicate your preference to the waiter, he will serve it so you can be sure. There are a limited number of burger choices, all interesting. You can ask that an ingredient be omitted, but can not make substitutions. The whole experience is fun. The waiters could not be more pleasant. This should become a franchise, and if it does, sign me up for some stock in it.

Amazing

By JakeT1992 |

We had 6 nights in Los Angeles, luckily on our first night while wandering from the hotel we found Stout Burger. The burger was amazing, as were the onion rings. By far the best burger I've ever had. We enjoyed it that much that we revisited on our last night for a second helping. You won't regret visiting!

Hip hollywood hangout for delicious burger and beer

By Travel_Dude1 |

Highly recommended! The $10 Stout burger (blue cheese, emi Gruyere, rosemary bacon, carmelized onion, horseradish cream and roasted tomatoes) was, my friend and I agreed, one of the best burgers we have had in Los Angeles. When I wasn't sure what kind of beer I wanted - they have a wide selection on offer - she was kind enough to bring me a tasting. When that was too bitter, she brought me a tasting of three other beers, and I settled on the one she recommended. How's that for great service? It's a fun and relaxed atmosphere - a great place to get comfort food on the rainy day we went there.

Best burgers in town

By MaidaValeGuy |

Whilst on the West Coast during the summer, my girlfriend and I dropped into Stout on the recommendation of locals in West Hollywood. Got to say, the best burger I've ever eaten! The truffle burger that I had just went amazingly in the nice afternoon sunshine with a few of Stout's selected beers. Much better burgers than we are used to in the UK!

Good Overall

This restaurant may look small but man is it big in quality. Food was absolutely amazing, we received our food under 10 minutes, and the waiters were nice

Get the "Six Weeker"

By Hanna H |

Their six weeker with the fig jam is just THE BEST. My mom and I went here while we were in town and we were not disappointed! Great services, great price, great food!

Great burger, great prices

By Cherie H |

While out shopping, I just needed to get a bite. Stout was across the street and I was able to leave my car parked where it was! Free parking on a Friday night =bonus! Since I’m avoiding carbs, I was already having the argument with myself....bun or no bun? To my delight, I did not have to decide because they had an arugula salad that offered a chicken breast or a burger patty! So I got my bunless burger alongside one of my favorite salads. Now, it’s a very simple, lightly dressed salad, so don’t expect any fireworks, but it appeals to me! I don’t drink beer, but if you do, apparently this is a good place for that. I had a lovely Pinot Noir and called it a night!

Unexpected Find.

By Fee70 |

Found this place unexpectedly as we were over the road looking at some shops. Lots of different Trendy burgers to choose from with beers recommended with each one. Its a Burger place so you wont find much else on the Menu. There are alternatives on the menu but not a lot. My kids just ordered Fries and a very LARGE Pretzel to share. The pretzel came with 3 dipping sauces and was Huge. I ordered coffee which wasn't ready and I had finished my burger before it arrived. It wasn't busy so service was fast. My burger came with an egg and as the egg was runny, it ran all over my burger so I had egg all over my fingers with every bite. I hate that and I didn't finish it. If you ordered one with an egg and prefer to have a cooked thru egg, please say so. The server should ask how you would like your egg cooked. The décor was nice and parts of the restaurant were open. It wasn't too noisy being on the main road. There was no activity sheet for the kids as it was a little bit more upmarket.

Gem of a place, great vibe, excellent food, beers sensational, staff awesone!

By Kathy P |

We were recommeded this place by Braxton (reception) at our hotel, El Royale.. Great call Braxton! We loved it. Hubby had the truffle burger, I had the S56 chicken burger, both were sensational ..... I was a bit unsure of chicken, but it was really tasty and the bacon gave a nice texture, crunch. We ordered a side of fries each, french and sweet potato... didnt need two, but both were hot and nice. The sweet potato won the battle hands down though... Burgers were $13 each and side $5 each plus tax of course. As you can see by the picture, hubby enjoyed it! Now, they have fantastic beers at Stout too and we thoroughly enjoyed the beers we had too. BIG thanks to Josh from NY (manager?) who guided us through the many beer choices, much appreciated. Great service, staff so nice, we had a great night and appreciated the service we recieved. Totally recommend this place....! It was so good, hubby walked back there after we got back to our hotel and dropped off some Tim Tams and a fluffy koala toy to say thanks Aussie style...

Best LA Burger Bar

By FilmEatDive |

I've sampled all the burgers of LA and this is always the one I come back to. The thing that sets Stout apart from other burger joints is the selection. There are four or so burgers on this menu that I absolutely love and always rotate between, whereas most other gastropubs have one flagship burger that stands out and that's about it. The beer selection here is constantly rotating and top notch as well. Great option for a quick bit before or after a show at any number of nearby Hollywood venues, since Stout is open way late. The only thing I would avoid on the menu here is the french fries, they aren't terrible, but the sweet potato fries are so much better. Be sure to ask for a side of the burger sauces for dipping.

Expensive for burger even good

By didier914 |

The burger are quite good , and beer as well although in small "glasses" but the bill is too much : +/- 30 $ for 1 burger + 1 drink...

Stout

By Elizabeth T |

fantastic food and atmosphere, had a lovely evening there. automatic tip added to the bill for 6 or more people

Tasty burgers

By joeformaggi |

Enjoyed a very tasty burger here late one afternoon. Very casual. Good beer selections. I'd go back.

TOP 3 Burgers in L.A.!

By Tomasawyer |

I have eaten many many burgers, and I was excited to find that Stout not only offers a great selection of beers from all over the world, a great customer service with recommendations and beer matching along with the food, but most foremost GREAT GREAT Burgers! Stout Original is a signature dish full of flavours and won't leave you feeling like you've over-eaten to the point of not moving anymore. Delicious

Gourmet burgers, limited choices

By Ruth G |

The food was delicious - we started with the cheese fries, which came with a dusting of salt and oregano, crisp and perfect. My husband ordered the Stout Burger - blue cheese, gruyere, bacon and horseradish; I had the Six Weeker - brie, fig, arugula and caramelized onions. Both burgers were amazing. The menu offers pairing suggestions with their huge selection of beers. The ambiance is casual, nice decor. This location was mostly patio seating, which on a warm day was just perfect. The one knock against Stout is the limited and inflexible menu. They do not substitute or add any ingredients to the burgers; they can only leave out ingredients - which is fine. But just keep this in mind in case you want a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomatoes and onions - they can do a cheeseburger (my daughter got The Imperialist with only cheese, no mustard, relish or roasted tomatoes); but they do not have lettuce or onions : )

Great quality burgers and beer!

By Nick S |

Having just spent 11 hours on a plane and just checked in to the hotel, this was a welcome experience having simple to choose, good quality food and beer and excellent service from the staff!

Fresh burger!

By Artzgal |

Nice to sit outside, and have a really juicy and well cooked HUGE burger and beer! Fun, casual, friendly staff.

Ok burgers good beers on tap

By Ivan R |

Thought burgers would have been better, nothing wrong with them just expected a bit more wow. Ok service although menus got put down without wiping table of liquid from previous glasses. Very good beers on tap, reasonable wine list. Table needed the wobble fixing. Onion rings has no onion flavour, sweet potato fries were the star.

'Real burgers - great service'

By michael t |

An unpretentious but comfortable venue serving a range of tasty burgers . Excellent customer service and a great position on the boulevard to people watch as you enjoy a beer and burger. I ordered the Stout burger with blue cheese - nicely cooked meat with a simple garnish and tasty shoestring fries - the blue cheese was subtle and not overpowering - all good. This is not fine dining and is not pretending to be but I would be happy to recommend this establishment for a light lunch/snack

Marginal Service, Pretty Good Burger

By Susie M |

Visited early on July 4 for lunch. I'm gluten free, so I appreciate the options. Burger was really good. A larger plate would be ideal when served on bed of arugula instead of bun, though, as the arugula kept falling off the small-sized plate. Biggest complaint was the service, which was very marginal. The waitress brought us food, but was generally slow; seemed self-absorbed; was not very attentive; and seemed more interested in flirting with some of the male customers than providing us with good table service. My guess is that she usually works in bars at night, where that behavior gets her more drink tips. I'm a woman who ordered soda during daytime hours, so I may not be the desired demographic. . . .

Pretentious…Silly…Decent Beers

By John S |

You can't add anything to the various burgers they offer. Why? No answer. The sweet potato fries were mealy and limp. Terrible. Oh, also, if you want fries with your unalterable burger, that will be $5. So, they charge you $16 for a burger (no alterations because we say so!) and fries. No thanks. Why people say the food is "great" or "amazing" completely mystifies me. If I get dragged here again against my will I will stick to the decent beer selections. Expensive, but it IS Hollywood.

Just okay

By Michelle V |

This place was just okay for me. My 2 friends and I ordered multiple burgers to share and taste. My favorite was the truffle shuffle, I think it was called. The fries, meh. The bread pudding was the best part of the whole meal!

Good Burger, Poor Service

By melobeam |

So with bated breath we waited for this restaurant to open, weeks of driving by as they put it together....and then: heres the skinny Parking: Valet or Street, there is a lot but for Valet only Service: poor, embarrassing Bathroom: the stall doors were not in place yet, unless that's a new style Food: Delicious burgers Alcohol: all was tasty Coke Factor: watery Seating: tables outside, bar inside, not all tables had been put in to inside The hostess was sweet and greeted us enthusiastically. But, once we got to the table, our surly sour faced waitress Maggie took over. Not a happy camper, that one. There is not a big menu and they apparently will not budge on changing anything. Even if you offer to pay extra. They will happily take things away from the entree though. The busboy/food deliver guy was completely clueless. He had no idea where to serve the food or who had ordered what. He refilled a club soda with tap water. When he served the veggie burger to my friend it had Arugula on it which she had requested to NOT be on there. She pointed that out and he didnt know what Arugula even was. The sauces did not come out either. Maggie never checked on us and only brought the check at the end. I understand that kinks need to be worked out but this place needs to work on Customer service. They should know the menu. They should be able to serve if they are a server.

Not impressed

By Travelbecca |

Slow service and less than average food. Not impressed - after being seated it took more than 5 minutes for service with only one other table seated in the restaurant. We saw our waitress twice and we went to the bar to pay when leaving because our kids were being bit by bugs outside. The food was average. Not impressed and not somewhere we would go back to for a burger, fries or tots.

So disappointing, just bad

By goplaces86 |

Looked quite nice from outside. However, our lunch experience started with the very little flexibility with regards to the burger setting. So far, bad luck. Then the burgers arrived and something which they dared to call fries ... . The burger was thrown on a plate, no garnish, the patty was not medium well as ordered but quite bloody, and the fries where hanging out of their basket, no crisp no taste. We were just eager to leave that awful place.

Beyond the Burger

By GoddessAboutGlobe |

Have you ever visited a burger restaurant and NOT ordered a burger? Well that's exactly what I did and here's why I feel I've got to tell you about it. I had a really good lunch here, it was in a word pretty tasty, that's two words but hey. I stumbled upon this lovely burger restaurant/beer bar in Hollywood last Saturday. On my way back from a little vinyl shopping I paced past and was slowed down but the cool music being played and the easy open air porch like sitting, great for watching Hollywood go by. After casting hungry eyes over the menu, I spotted freshly made grounded daily beef burgers alongside organic ground chicken but it was actually the Kale & quinoa salad that stuck out. I nearly ordered the quinoa and bean based vegetarian burger but opted for sweet potato fries with said salad. The fries were sweet, salty hot and came with a pot of ketchup (I'm a Brit) this made me smile. My kale was beautifully dressed not drenched in a delegate oil with red chillies , the quinoa danced into the mix I paired this well. Speaking of pairing each every menu option has an ale or beer suggested with it. Great spot for a solo lunch or post gig drop by. I'll order a fine burger next time, as there will be a next time. Enough said.

Deserves a much higher rating!

By Miles D |

This place is awesome! It's a great location for beer lovers, and for burger lovers alike. They have a full menu of different beers on tap and in bottles, and their burgers are magnificent. I had their weekly special, which was a mushroom and truffle-oil-aioli burger. Insane!! Well worth a visit if you're in Hollywood.

Top Burger, Top beer

By Justin P |

It has all been said. Basically, this was the best burger ever, and there were another 10 on the menu that looked just as good. The beer was great, although only served in small measures... given the strength, maybe that was a good thing. There was a top-drawer selection though. This was all capped by the friendly manager who had intimate knowledge of all the nuances of both burgers and beer, which made for a fascinating chat. I do not usually put burgers up there at the top of my gourmet experiences, but this place did it for me!!!

BEST BURGER EVER!

By Daniielaa |

My fiancé bragged about these burgers when he travelled the states with a few mates 2 years ago and was a little unconvinced about how good a burger could be. Two years on we have visited together and I have to say these are by far the besssssst burgers I have ever had. To put it this way; we ate there three times in four days. Do your self a favour swing past and grab a beer with a burger and be sure to try the bread pudding! AMAZING!

Fabulous hamburgers, chicken burgers, veggie burgers happy hour 4-7

By Jetaa83 |

This place is awesome. The food is outstanding and the service is beyond out of this world. From the huge beer list, unbelievable specialty drinks (the malt-ball milkshake is yum!), great wine list to the burgers and sides it’s a great place to eat! Everyone on the staff works together as a team serving your drinks, taking your order, bringing your food and clearing your plates. The outdoor seating area is fabulous! We had the blue cheese burger, bbq chicken burger and a veggie burger . They all had fancy names but I can’t remember them . The sides are huge, which we did not realize and ordered too many. But they were all fabulous! We had the tater tots, onion rings and sweat potato fries . You can even get loaded tester tots! Oh we had our little puppy in the outdoor area in the corner, so nice to be able to bring her out to lunch with us! It is Down the road from universal. We had our car detailed at the hand car wash down the street while we had lunch! My daughter goes here for happy hour 4-7 all the time. Great deal for kids on a budget during happy hour! I can not say enough about the excellent customer service from everyone! The entire staff is friendly and efficient!

Great food and beer

Friendly staff and great service. Food was delicious and samples a few ales which were very nice. Would return again.

Great Burgers and Beer

By MNrocks |

Nice place close to the pier. There is a good beer selection and the burger I had was wonderful. The place is very small but was not overly crowded early on a Friday night. My wife and I ate at the bar and had a nice time. There was only one bartender serving up all the drinks but he did a fantastic job Friday May 19th.

small but charming

By LmRider |

Best burgers, great beer selection and wine choices. We enjoyed this spot for a casual dinner. The dining room is small but there is also outdoor seating.

Great find

By john h |

We were trying to get to the Fox and Hounds but being on the wrong side of the road kept walking to find somewhere to cross, when we finally crossed we found this place, really great choice of beers and a great burger, happy to recommend but be aware some of the beers are very strong.

Overpriced for a very average meal

By bigmillsy |

We had checked into El Royale hotel and this was one of the only restaurants which was within a short walk of the hotel, it therefore chose us rather than the other way round. We walked past it a couple of times, thinking it was a bar rather than restaurant, it turns out it is both. I had their Signature burger which was OK my wife had a salad which was awful, consisting of soggy vegetables, lettuce and frankly no imagination. When the burger arrived, the server told us it didn't come with fries, when we ordered fries, by the time they arrived, the burger was finished, and I am not a fast eater. The cruncher however is that we paid for the meal using a debit card and paid the tip (15%) in cash, I was more than a little annoyed to discover on looking at my account a few days later to see that the amount we had paid had been changed by $8 (more) presumably to cover the tip we had already left in cash. This was one of the new breed who expect 18% upwards.

Awesome Burgers / Cool Venue / Great Staff

By Mark H |

Classic Hip Burger and Beer Joint - I had the classic stout burger, which was perfectly cooked and packed with flavour (though removed the blue cheese - good tip by waitress based on my tastes) Massive range of beers to complement your burger choice too.

YUM and then some.

By calliejoanna |

We made the great decision to sit at the bar--the bartender was very knowledgeable and helpful, giving out samples before you ordered something new. The atmosphere was fun and rustic. I ordered the veggie burger and onion rings--the rings were AMAZING and the burger was good as well. Try the chipotle sauce.

Amazing burgers

By HB525 |

The burgers here are so tasty. A great selection of drinks to go with them too. Friendly staff and reasonable (for LA) price.

Disappointing

By LATraveller77 |

I sat at the bar on a pleasant Sunday late-afternoon, so it wasn't too crowded or too noisy. The bartender was very friendly and helpful. So many wonderful-sounding beers to choose from. The one I chose was dark with a head of foam like ice cream. Very, very nice. Too bad I can't say the same about the much-touted burgers. If you're old enough to remember the lunch counter at Woolworth's, you remember the Salisbury-steak specials, and now you know how the burgers are at this location. The grind is too coarse for my taste, and they've selected a very low-fat beef, so that there's not much moisture. The barkeep warned me that the burgers usually come out medium rare, unless I ask for well-cooked. I said I prefer it even a bit more rare than "medium rare." It was cooked all the way through. Forget the soggy, limp fries, but what really irritates me is that there are "no substitutions allowed." Why? Just to be pretentious? When you go out to dinner, you want to eat what you want. It's not supposed to be the senior prom menu. I understand if you want, for example, lettuce on your burger and they don't have lettuce to offer, you won't get lettuce. But if you want to ADD arugula to a burger that does not include arugula in its menu description, you will not be allowed to have arugula. That's just stupid and silly. The wine list is too downscale for my taste, but this place is all about the beer, so I guess the wine is mostly an afterthought. Way too pricey for what you get. Will I go back? If I am on Ventura and hungry, and there's a parking space available on the street so I don't have to deal with the long valet wait, I'll go there again, but I certainly will not recommend it to friends, and I won't go out of my way to eat there as my chosen dining destination. Too bad. I had high hopes after all the hype.

Burgers and beer

By Sparky8188 |

I feel like you really need to come here for a beer and a burger not just a burger. It looked to be a great date spot with couples everywhere! I came with my teenage daughter so we had waters, burger, veggie burger and sweet potato fries. The veggie burger was very fresh and it fell apart as I ate it so I just ate it with a fork. Daughter had the Imperialist burger without the tomatoes. It was good and I think I'd go for the burger next time! The sweet potato fries were good too and a good portion to share! I'd bring my husband back and try one if there many draft beers and have a burger next time!!

Outrageous burgers - YUM

By marjen |

Tired and hungry, we expected a decent burger, but we were rewarded with an awesome meal. Mushrooms, brie and truffles on a burger! YUMMY! Awesome fries, homemade ketchup, great beer. They know their beers and served my husband a great beer (he asked for something crisp and light) Very pleased Wish we had a Stout in our area!

Awesome buns!

By SunnygirlC |

I must say that the burgers are good but the bun is really good! They are light and fluffy so you don't feel as full after eating the burger. The side sauces are good, our fave was the curried chutney. We tried the pretzel, sweet potato fries and onion rings as sides and for me the onion rings were the winner. We had quite a few different dipping sauces so it was fun to try all of the sides with all of the sauces. The selection of beer was great but would love to see them expand their craft cider selection.

Great beers and burgers.

By scan1man |

The burgers are well though out, and very nicely prepared. while the menu is limited, we all found things we enjoyed. They had a well curated list of craft beers on tap, or bottles. The ambiance was simple and the service was good.

Lovely burgers. Not too pricey for LA.

By Angelcat18 |

We walked from our hotel (the garland) as we'd seen this place on tripadvisor. The walk was only 10 minutes and was well worth it. The Bollywood veggie burger I had was really lovely. There are two veggie burgers on the menu: great to see veggie choices! We had a salad and fries to share. My partner had a Stout burger which he loved. The beers were tasty too. The staff were really friendly and the venue is welcoming. I would definitely go back.

Best burger anywhere

By jwislock |

This was the best burger I have ever had. The sweet potato fries were excellent. The best part was that a potential 30 minute wait for a table turned into 5 minutes thanks to the wonderful staff.

Just yum

By happyday59 |

We were staying in the area and were looking for something American and low key for our final night in LA. So glad we found this place. Hubby loves boutique beer and the burgers are something special. He chose the Imperial burger while I savoured one with truffle aoli and mushrooms. Just delicious. Sides of fries and onion rings - no need for anything else. Wait staff were great. Two very happy Aussies.

Great Hamburger, but......

By Eden A |

So simple .... Excellent burgers! We came yesterday for the first time, after my daughter was craving for a good hamburger. Found this place on Yelp, and decided to try it. It was a good decision. Everything was delicious. I ordered the veggie burger, the rest ordered regular beef burgers, they were all just perfect. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 stars, just because of their weird policy : You can substitute anything you want from your burger, but you can NOT add anything, even not if you are willing to pay extra! That is weird, and does not make any sense at all! My daughter wanted to add grilled onion to her burger, but they did not let her, although she offered to pay extra. She asked if she can ordered grilled onion on the side, and pay for it. The answer was no again. What ??!! Are you kidding me? They have hamburger with grilled onion (but not with mushrooms and other things she wanted) on the menu, so what is the problem to add grilled onion ,and charge $2 more? Why you can substitute anything you do not like, but not adding something you do like instead? As I said, DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE. We really liked the place, but I think we will have to look for other good hamburgers somewhere else. Grilled onion is a deal breaker for her.

Best burger I've had

By Jordan F |

The Morning After burger is a must try! The staff is friendly and the environment is low key. Their beer selection is pretty good too, I'm just not that knowledgeable in stouts.

Stout location in Santa Monica

By Jack S |

Stout Burgers and Beers is a small local chain with just three locations. I'll be writing about the location in Santa Monica as its the only one we've been to. We are Santa Monica locals and have eaten lunch and dinner here many times. The service is always top notch. Really nice people work here and they create an environment that is really fun. This location is one block from the ocean and the whole front of the restaurant is open which lets the sea air in. The beef is fresh ground daily in house at each location. I've tried all the burgers and there isn't a bummer in the bunch. They are all great. No, you cant substitute but this isn't Burger King. Each burger is a hand crafted creation and every element inside is there on purpose. Just give one a try, you wont be sorry. It's kind of like going out to dinner and then dumping a ton of salt on your food before you even taste it. The sides are all also excellent. Get some frites! Yummy sauces and an overall killer selection of beers. A+

Great Beer Selection, Great Food and Great Service

By Lee L |

I come here a lot. Everything is always consistent and good. They have a huge beer selection so you'll always find one you'll like. Their quinoa burgers and onion rings are to die for! Always a great place to sit at the bar and catch a football game. The staff is super friendly and always welcoming.

Great

By Chubberoo |

Was staying at the garland nearby and wanted some good filling food, noticed this on the map and after abit of research decided it looked a good place to come. We were not disappointed! Not only was the food and drink great but we unwittingly found out at the end of the meal that the food was half price because of happy hour! Had the morning after burger and loaded fries and they were filling and great. Would have defiantly come here again had we had been in LA longer!

Killer Veggie Burger and Tap Selection

By meowtraveler23 |

Seriously this ticked all the boxes for me when I was in town. I wanted a solid Veggie Burger (not vegetarian but I always seek a in house made veggie burger wherever I travel to) and I needed some craft beer. This place nailed it on every front, the burger was one of the better I've had and the beer selection held it's own quite well. My co-worker who's gluten free and wasn't excited about their offering of basically a burger salad enjoyed the heck out of his offering with his cider and actually said he'd return. Normally he won't touch it unless it's a lettuce wrap burger, but this stood out to him.

Good burgers, great beer selection

By rageisman |

Went here for a late lunch arrival day in Hollywood. Easy walk from our hotel, gives you a chance to walk along Hollywood Blvd and look at the stars. I had the Stout burger which was delicious, husband had the Morning After and liked it too. Onion rings were very good. And the beer list was phenomenal. Would recommend if in this area.

Delicious burger and great beer selection

By Elisa B |

My husband and I fancied a good burger for dinner. We stayed at the Garland Hotel in Hollywood and this place is 15mins walk from the hotel. There is a car park too, you can park there for $3 or $4 dollars. The place is simple, the staff is lovely and we really liked our burger. They have a wide beer selection and there is a beer recommendation with each burger. 2x burgers, 2x beers (1 small and 1 regular), 1 side (big portion!) for $51 - worth every cent! They have a Beer happy hour after 9pm too.

Awesome sauce!

By gdaum3n |

I'm 52, and loved the food at Stout. Went there on a tip and had a burger and giant pretzel. Both had wonderful favors. The horseradish sauce is nose clearing, and chipotle has a good bite. It may be a challenge getting a table, but worth it.

Stupendous Stout

By Hey Joe |

Upon arrival in Manhattan Beach, we decided stroll the area and then decide where we wanted to grab a beer and a bite to eat. However, one look at first place we saw, we looked at each other and said "This is it" as we took in the ambience and many taps on display at Stout Burgers and Beer. Our server Brittany was one of best I've ever had the pleasure of meeting and she walked us through the Stout menu and beer selections. She recommended an IPA that was smooth and rewarding as we perused the menu. They do burgers to haute cuisine. The meat is fresh and buns to die for and options for garnishment seem endless. No regrets at a for the hasty choice. After a few hours of after dinner exploration, we were satisfied we chanced upon the ideal spot for burgers, beer and ambiance.

Great Burger and Good Beer

By Norway_in_Stamford |

Excellent burgers with suggested beer pairings which worked out nicely. Not too crowded on a Saturday in January, but hard to find parking! If In-and-Out is the five star fast food joint, this is almost the same for upscale, but reasonably priced burgers (~$12), but unless you have a handicap tag, you may have to walk or wait for parking which is the one star detraction.

Perfect home made burgers - oh and loads of craft beers.

By Dreambig |

This worth a 15-20 minute walk from the Garland Hotel. Its a casual burger joint with friendly staff who were a little inclined to forget things we ordered but hey, the food was the real deal (and the odd celebrity)! We make our own burgers at home and I was keen to see how they shaped up. The meat was tasty, juicy and soft. Not easy for a lady to bit into such a big stack but knife and fork carved through it perfectly. We shared rosemary fries between 3 of us easily and the side of caesar salad was the best we had every eaten. An extensive stock of craft beers meant that we had to return a second night just to make sure we could give it a sold review and try a couple of the cocktails - and no, we did not sing on the way back to the hotel ;) Shame we had to then go home but would highly recommend.

All are welcome here for a great burger!

By Lee B |

Suggested by our concierge, this restaurant is the place to go if you enjoy tasty burgers made on site, soft "gourmet" pretzels, craft beers...Plus, there were solo people there, couples, a mom and young son, small group...Staff was friendly and helpful to all.

Best burger in Santa Monica!

By Mr Mitch |

Tonight I have the opportunity to dine at Stout burger and beer in Santa Monica right by ocean Boulevard near Broadway. I Have this burger karma where I have serendipitously lived within a mile proximity to what has been rated by both GQ magazine and Oprah Winfrey as the top burger restaurants in United States. My friends and family make fun of me because they think I moved to these places just to be by the best burgers in the country! One was in Florida and the other in Santa Fe New Mexico. So I definitely know my burgers! I actually pride myself in being somewhat of an American Burger connoisseur. In addition to that, as a lifetime platinum Starwood member I traveled the globe and in each country I've always made it a point to try their version of the great American burger. Then I discover Stout Burger! I'm taking the time to write this review while one hand I have my iPhone and the other hand I have the best burger I've ever experienced in my life! The bun is this warm freshly baked sweet bread that is hearty and light. The burger patty is delicious and perfectly seasoned and is accompanied by blue cheese, melted Gruyere cheese, Rosemary bacon, caramelized onion, cooked to absolute perfection! I also love the fact that they have over two dozen delicious draft beers to choose from. And Nathan the restaurant manager was like a beer connoisseur in guiding me to select the perfect beverage to accompany my delicious meal. I really give props to Nathan, because it's one thing for a restaurant to have a great ambience and great food but to bring in top talent that really knows how to relate and communicate and have an authentic exchange. Thanks Nathan! And be assured I will be back and I will tell my friends and family I have found the very best burger in the USA!

Tasty burgers, great beer!

By Sotraveling |

As the name implies, Stout has burgers and beer. But both selections are unusual and, in the latter case, large. I actually opted for the Cali Fresh veggie burger, skinny stout style. Which means instead of a bun, my burger was served on a bed of fresh arugula. It was delicious and despite holding the thousand island dressing, far from dry. I also tried the Low and Slow (chicken burger), as well as the Shu Burger (beef) both of which were tasty! The sweet potatoes fries were perfect and crispy. All three beers that we ordered were unusual and tasty -- paired well with out burgers. The service was friendly, helpful and attentive despite the hoping business going on. I totally recommend this place! The only thing to keep in mind for those of you on the chilly side, is that they have limited indoor seating (at this location); the outdoor heaters keep you pretty toasty if your sitting on the isle side of the table.

Great burgers and lots of differen beers.

Fun place to eat here before the theater. Burgers were cooked to perfection, and seemed extra large. Beer was great. Service was very good too, casual dining at its best.

Nice beer selection

By misterjohnny |

When beer is in your name, you better be good at it. Stout is. Nice selection of drafts from all over the country, in many different styles. Even a couple sours for the adventurous. Food is fine, it's the beer that gets the rating.

Great burger

By Steve B |

Great burger. Beer was good too. Little pricy but it is LA where everything takes twice as long and cost twice what it should.

Will not swap one type of cheese for another on a burger.

By lauradean |

Ok, I've heard of chefs being temperamental over customers messing with their recipes, however this is a burger! My son loves a good burger, so I brought him here today for lunch. We have been here a couple of times before over the few years it has been here. I was going to order a veggie burger, but I can't tolerate spicy items, so I asked to swap the pepper jack cheese for another kind. I was told "no substitutions." ....what????!!!

Excellent burgers

By Woodychester1 |

Laid back restaurant with one open side, large bar and very specialised beers. Clearly set up for beer aficionados with a wide choice or well described beers. Only serves burgers but specialised with a large selection of matched toppings. Very moist we'll cooked burgers only issue was the burgers could have done with a little more seasoning.

Beer & Burgers

Good selection of Beers and a very good Burger too! Reccomended by the Hotel we stayed at down the road, El Royale.

great find - lots of barrel aged beer on tap and good food!

By BRIAN22Algonquin |

Stopped in because it was near our hotel in hollywood area, and we were VERY happy to "discover" it. This place had a barrel aged thing going on and at least 10 barrel aged beers on tap and lots more - wonderful selection! They had an awesome happy hour with big discounts on food and great burgers and also tator tots (always a sign of class). Service was good. We found a parking spot in their lot (fairly small) - they also offered valet parking - not sure if that was free or not. They apparantly have locations in KY and TN as well - hoping to visit again next time I am near one.

So good!

I had the Stout burger, which featured horseradish. I've never had horseradish on a burger and all I can say was it was like having a party in my mouth! The man played it safe with the Mr America. Both burgers were cooked just right, nicely pink with good quality add-ons. The buns were soft but held up well. Fries were great. Nice selection of beers and our server made a good choice for me when I told her what I like in the way of beer. We wouldn't hesitate to go back. The only drawback for these two baby boomers was the loudness of the music.

Awesome yet simple burgers

By Luis Felipe G |

I really liked these burgers, the meat was tender a juicy and with great flavour. The bread was soft too. One thing is that they only offer the burgers on the menu, you can't add ingredients, which is weird to say at least. Still I would come back again, their weird policy makes it so I try something different with every visit.

Not too shabby

Stout burgers & beers is a great spot to check for the best burger in LA quest. The draft selection is top shelf & the menu is great, even the secret secret menu. We had issues with the hostess & not seating our friend to reserve our table. She even was trading the menus and very protective of them for some reason. Their were empty tables the entire rampage/ three digit tab.

Really good burgers

By franksbeans2001 |

Delicious burgers in a chill atmosphere. Service was pretty good, and the prices were reasonable. I would definitely go here again.

Just Ok. Fries extra

By Amy F |

This place is known for its burgers and they were decent. What befuddled me was their inability to make a substitution of chicken for beef. Same toppings, same everything but you cant swap out the protein. Makes no sense.

Best Burger ever!

This small spot ar LA was recomended by a friend and was better than described. Burger was super tasty and the fries were awsome as well. Pls go and grab a beer and burger for me!

Great late night burgers

By Don C |

Came after as long happy hour and were thoroughly satisfied. Good food, and solid beer selection. The sweet potato fries were a treat, and the onion rings were some of the better ones I've had. I'd recommend.

Great Burgers!

By crzyirishgirl |

This place is one of our favorite places to go before a show at the Pantages. Stout burgers and beer grinds the meat the use for burgers daily. So the result is super juicy burger. The offer a selection of gourmet burgers. This is a place that knows meat is best if served med-rare to med. They do offer a couple of non-beef options. But this a burger place and they make really good burgers. It's actually my top burger place in So. Cal. The bartenders and servers are knowledge about beer. They want to find the right beer for you and will bring you little tasters to help you decided. They have some craft beers and Belgian beers. Good burgers and good beer.

Well cooked, good beer selection

By Al H |

Little Pricey, but it's LA. The buns/burgers are very well cooked and constructed, though, and deceptive. They don't look as big as they are until you are eating them. Be warned-they will take a toping off, but won't put one on. Valet parking may be easier, but it's $7

Wow it is just a burger!

By Akopyan S |

Yesterday we was at Stout , it was amazing really, because such simple thing as burger they make like a super French delicates , flavors was new and surprised me. Because I never eat burger with Brie cheese ) I'll like it very much ! It is really very new vision of such simple taste.

Great burgers with healthy options, great service, music very loud

By Laura_in_Victoria |

We found this place on the recommendation of a server in a wine bar. The food was very tasty - I loved my veggie burger served `skinny` on a bed of arugula (felt less guilty about the spicy fries!). Found the service quite good, and the atmosphere nice, but the music was just too loud for a restaurant (hard to hear your companion talk). Food priced appropriately for what you got, but the beer (served in very small glasses) was pricey relative to other microbreweries we`ve visited.

Great people

Fresh from Aussie and looked after us great and gave us some great advice of where to go !! Really worthy a visit

Awesome burgers and fries! Don't miss it.

By Dan2807 |

This place was recommended to us by a local and boy was he right. Best burger I have ever tasted and the fries were special too. This small burger/beer establishment was a perfect place to grab a drink and have a super tasty meal. I highly recommend it to anyone in Los Angeles or Santa Monica.

In love

By kisssmee |

In love with the Truffle Shuffle Burger. The burger is filled with delicious, juicy goodness that you want in your mouth. I think the truffle aioli has something to with that. Hahha. I've also tried the Six Weeker because of the fig jam the burger comes with. It's a sweeter burger, but not as good as the Truffle Shuffle. It's Studio City so they do valet or you can try to find street parking if you're lucky. Happy hour is from 4-6pm and it's 50% off food!! What a great deal.

Amazing food

By Roimata s |

If you go before 6pm I think the burgers are half price. The food is incredible, the best burgers we had in LA and the onion rings were DELICIOUS! We aren't big beer drinkers but the waiter recommend some delicious stuff that wash down well with the burgers. The service was excellent and the atmosphere is nice and relaxed. Perfect place to eat if you are staying at Podshare. Highly recommend this as a place to eat.

Nothing special

By Mary W |

The burgers are priced right $10. They are not bad but nothing sticks out about them. Onion rings are good. Guess you go here for beer. All the seating is outside on a patio. They have heaters for when it gets cold. The bar area is at conditioned. Not a lot of seating here. Can't see big groups. The service was great. Staff is very nice

Favorite Burger in LA

By taylorglassman |

This place is amazing! They also have a great beer selection. Who doesn't want a tasty burger along side a handcrafted beer? They have multiple locations, but the one in Studio City is my favorite!

Great Burgers, Great Beer on Tap, Fun Atmosphere

By MichiganTraveler313 |

I literally wandered into this place while my wife and daughter were shopping in the plaza across the street. What a nice find! Nothing fancy here but it has a very comfortable atmosphere, friendly servers, cool bar with lots of good beer on tap, and amazing burgers. All this comes at a very reasonable price. It's set up to have an outdoor eating area, but when the weather is cooler, it can be closed up for indoor comfort. If you are in this area stop in and you will not be disappointed!

Best Burgers Ever

By EmBentley |

These are OMG burgers. Parking is no fun here, but it's worth it for the delicious, meaty goodness that is a Stout burger. I'm not a beer person, so unfortunately I haven't been able to appreciate the pairing aspect of the restaurant, but I imagine that's an added bonus for those who do like it.

Great Burgers and Beer

By Max G |

Great burgers and fries, along with a wide selection of draught beers, make for a delicious meal. We had the Stout Burger, Truffle Burger and Six Weeker (burger). All were cooked perfectly and very tasty. If you go for happy hour (M-F till 6pm), all food is half price. You can't beat that.

Great burger and beer experience.

By Marino |

I had the stout burger and it was awesome. The suggested beer pairings were appreciated. My friends has other burgers and everyone was quite pleased. I'd recommend getting fries for the table. The restaurant was busy when we arrived but it was easy to wait outside in their make shift seating area. Service was good.

Stout in Studio City

By karula76 |

I live in the area and I had driven by several times and finally tried it tonight. My friends and I were looking for a good spot to grab dinner and hang out and Stout was the perfect place. Super friendly servers and hipster, cool atmosphere. The waitress explained there are no substitutions on any of their burgers but they will take stuff out if requested. I found this a bit pretentious, but I understand. Every single hamburger and its ingredients is well thought out, so I get it. There are many choices for good hamburgers in Studio City, but Stout will now be on the top of my list. The food was delicious! Highly recommend it!

Two great meals

By PJM_UK68 |

We had two great meals at Stout. Found the reviews on TA and it was on the recommended list of the concierge at the hotel we were staying at, which was a shirt walk away. Burgers were all excellent as was the quinoa salad. Seasoned fries were some of the best I’ve eaten. All top off by an extensive array of beers on tap. Definitely worth a visit. And you can buy their t-shirts!

Great Happy Hour

By Jason Anthony |

No discounts on drinks, but their food is all half off! The burgers are awesome, the atmosphere is great, and at least one bartender was very social. The drinks are very creative as well. I had one called the Honey & Rose, it comes with a sprig of rosemary that they torch to release aroma and enhance the drink! Pretty creative, will definitely stop by next time I am in town!

Crazy good burgers & beer!

By nah59 |

The "six weeker" burger was incredible...Brie, fig jam, arugula, carmelized onion!! Wow!! Do not pass up the sweet potato fries or the onion rings!!! Service was great, and they're happy to suggest fantastic beers to complement your burger!! We sat outside on a beautiful day...perfection!!

Visiting

Great burgers, very helpful with the menu and waited for the poutine fries. Very very delicious. Satisfaction was accomplished here. I'd definitely come back.

Have it your way NOT

By GJAJKJ |

There were exactly 3 other tables in the resturant yet the chef will under NOT circumstance consider altering your burger. So you better like it Medium or Medium Rare because that is your choice. Oh and BTW don't try to add anything to the small burger selection. The answer is NO! The waitresss was embarrassed and we were frustrated. The burgers were ok but certainly not amazing enough to justify such a terrible customer service policy. No wonder there were so few tables filled. Good beer selection but that's the highlight.

The best burger I've ever had

By Quoc N |

Honestly I am not a fan of burger but got to this place as my local friend recommended it - the best place in town. And I totally agree; burgers are fresh, juicy and full flavor, fries are also super. Did have 02 glasses of draft beer and they were good also. Definitely recommend it to anyone.

deilcious gourmet burgers

By PMarcus0007 |

Are you looking for a delicious quality hamburger. This is a must visit if you are in the Studio city area. Enjoy and get a side of yummy fries.

Great atmosphere

By Ellie |

Fantastic atmosphere, funky little set up, looked like the sort of place where the cool, hip people in their 30's hung out. Looked to be lots of couples on dates. Food was quite good, although I personally found my burger to be a little on the sloppy side but still amazingly delicious. Would go back for sure when I'm next in LA.

Great Food

By Cristy48 |

The Stout's that we went to was in Santa Monica and the burgers were very good. The service was fast and the staff was friendly and polite. I would recommend this place its delicious.

Great Burger

By RockerLondon_UK |

I wanted to give this 3.5 rather than 4 just to reflect the fact that this is primarily a slightly pretentious bar that's trying hard not to be. Unfortunately the beers, though good, are not as quite good as they'd like to think. But the burgers are! Excellent stuff, perfectly cooked, really well garnished and served and very tasty. Definitely one of the better burgers I've had. And you should get the sweet potato fries - also great. There's no wifi. Don't miss the half price food happy hour!

Wonderful experience for 2 out-of-towners

By Jenna R |

My boyfriend and I went here with a local couple that knows the area well. We really enjoyed our time here. Our waitress was wonderful and turned on the outdoor heater for us. We did not get burgers so I cannot comment on them but they looked AMAZING! The beer selection was great and we got a number of appetizers to snack on. Their special that week was a jumbo soft pretzel with 5 different dipping sauces. YUM! FYI they do not sell liquor, just beer and wine. The seasoned fries are great too :)
