Setting the standard

By Thomas B |

There is no place that welcomes you, remembers you, challenges your taste buds with great new culinary delights, and treats you like family - like the Stumbling Goat Bistro. This is what a restaurant should be - with friendly, engaging staff from the top down. Any guests who visit us in Seattle, we bring here. Josh is a wizard of wonder in the kitchen and the staff... well, it's tough not to give them all a hug when we visit. It is tough sometimes to remember it is a restaurant and not our best friend's house. That's how they make you feel. I find it difficult to call out specifics on the menu because everything is delicious, but I'll name a few I sometimes crave over others: Butter lettuce salad - always with a slight variance to keep it interesting and flavorful Pork chop - the "other white meat" is mouthwatering with the apricots and spices Wild boar tenderloin - my mother-in-law still raves about it Goat ragu - delicious Roasted Chicken - you dream about it on the way home And the ice creams - from savory gorgonzola, to pistachio orange, to bourbon chocolate - there is no end to the combinations of flavors to accompany a delightful dessert menu. Every little detail is attended to in the cocktails - and they are some of the best I've ever had. The brunch is heavenly and a real special treat on a Saturday or Sunday. Do not miss this restaurant! We will be patrons for years to come. See you there!

Excellent food and service. Only wish it wasn't as expensive ($20-$30/entree) so that I can go more often.

Consistently Great Food and Service

By Mattie S |

I have eaten dinner here several times with friends. I love the cozy atmosphere, and we are always immediately welcomed with a friendly smile. This time I ordered the wild boar Bolognese along with a spinach salad. Both were quite tasty. The small plate pasta dish was more than enough. In fact, I brought home leftovers. Some dishes my friends enjoyed were grilled octopus and creamed cauliflower soup. The servers are patient and attentive. We brought our own bottle of wine so cannot comment on that, but the Lillet Blanc preceding the meal was perfectly chilled. Compared to other restaurants at this level, the prices are quite reasonable. It is conveniently located in the Greenwood neighborhood. I would not hesitate to recommend and return again.

Closing August 27th...

By Megan P |

We are sad to see this tasty fine restaurant will be closing at end of service August 27th. Go to Happy Hour (4-6 pm) for a less expensive option and have the pastrami sandwich. For the regular dinner, there's not a bad dish. We'll be sorry to see this go.

A Glorious Meal

By dlphi50 |

Everything about the time spent here recently was fantastic. Ambience, menu offerings, libations, and the meal itself! My daughter had the pastrami sandwich which looked and smelled so darn delicious! I had the Risotto with leeks, carmelized cauliflower(YES!), and garnished with truffle shavings. My mouth is watering as I type this. They also make things in the kitchen that are offered for sale as a side project, such as tonic syrup. Imagine tonic water from a craft distillery. Just add 1 to 2 ozs of the syrup and the liquor of choice(gin, for example), fill with soda water to the top, and there ya go! A gin and tonic fantastico!

Duck Confit is a Unique and Excellent Brunch Choice

By Zack |

I went to the Stumbling Goat Bistro for brunch with my friend and my girlfriend and every one of us thought it was delicious. We showed up about a half hour before brunch closed so it was pretty empty but I had read good things about the place before coming so we weren't worried. I'm not sure how busy it is during a more peak time but the place should be popular. I started out my brunch by ordering a donut with chocolate frosting and vanilla filling mixed with raspberry jam. The donut was fluffy and airy while the creaminess of the vanilla mixed well with the sweetness of the raspberry jam and chocolate frosting. My friend got a sugar donut with strawberry jam and my girlfriend got a coconut crème donut and both were very pleased with their starter selections as well. I ordered the Duck Confit and it was one of the best brunch items I've found in the city. It was so different from any other item I've ever gotten for brunch any other time I've gone out. The duck mixed throughout the confit was so flavorful and well cooked but what really made the meal different was the poached duck egg that when popped and spread over the confit infused a creaminess with each bite that left a lasting impression. My girlfriend got the potatoes O'Brien and we were both impressed by how well the sweetness of the onions and peppers worked with the potatoes. She gets potatoes O'Brien a lot for breakfast and seemed to like this one better than most. I will have to make my way back to the Stumbling Goat sometime just to get the Duck Confit again because I don't know where else I could find anything like that.

Great Food and Service

By Sarah C |

This place is a bit pricy but well worth it, I had the lamb which was spectacular and my husband had the chicken which he also enjoyed. I had 3 different mixed drinks and all were good. The service was also spectacular

Delicious and Great Service

By Cindi P |

Went for dinner on a Wednesday night. Though the food was excellent. We split a large butter leaf salad and then ordered the chicken and the hanger steak. Service was top notch. My only complaint was the temp. It doesn't appear that they have AC and it was a bit stuffy (even though we were sitting by the open windows and a fan). But, I would definitely return on a cooler day.

Our local celebration(s) with family restaurant

By Doug M |

The first time we went was for a dinner after a wedding and our group of 8 was given very attentive service by more than just our waiter. We went again for a milestone birthday with just a group of 4. The meal was exceptional and I had the grass-fed hanger steak (rare) and the in-season baby greens with a tasty vinaigrette. Most recently we had a brunch with a family visitor from Japan. I had the duck confit hash and my wife had the vegetable hash. Both had a rich flavor and were prepared beautifully.

Great Bistro

By Mike R |

What more can I say that with great food, especially the bacon wrapped dates, burgers made to order and piled high with toppings, ice cold beer, many selections, and terrific service! Put the Stumbling Goat on your list of restaurants to visit!

Great work on wine pairing

We were so lucky to catch Seattle restaurant week atStumbling Goat Bistro. We were in town for one night. I tried to reserve on Open Table but had an issue so I called. We were about 15 minutes away and they said they could reserve s high top for us. Small bistro with a bit of outside seating. Decent bar inside. Happy, friendly and knowledgable staff. Nice creations with seasonality. Wine paring was sublime. A truly wonderful experience. Highly recommend eating here.

Quirky, delicious restaurant

We went a few years ago and had a great meal. Service was a little slow and inattentive, but it worked out fine for us. All of the food was fabulous.

Great for a quick bite

By nukesafe |

We chose this small restaurant on Greenwood Avenue in Seattle almost at random, as we had some time to kill before a meeting nearby. We were not terribly hungry and were attracted by the "small plates" sign. Though other reviews say this place closed in August, it is still running (Under the name "The Goat on Greenwood) until the building gets torn down at some later date. We ate at the bar and my wife had a bowl of their soup of the day, Barley, with a side of Mac and Cheese, and I had the Fried Green tomato BLT with a side of Brussel Sprouts and Ham. All were delicious and really hit the spot on a cold rainy night. The prices were reasonable, and we will return -- if it is still there.

Awesome Noshin'

By Sharky56 |

The wife and I ate there last night and the food looked as good as it tasted, and it was wonderful. We had the cheese plate, devine, the Wild Boar Rillette, which was very interesting and bustin' with flavor. My gal had the rabbit and I tried the halibut. It's the first time I've had fish at a restaurant that I wasn't disappointed, seared crunchy with delicate sweet accompanying flavors. The pasta that the rabbit was served on was amazingly light and flavorful. Try the Goat, if you don't like it I suggest you go back to dining at Denny's.

Great little spot outside the downtown area

By Carly C |

I made a reservation on open table for a birthday dinner (which is always a bonus because it is so easy). The place is small but very cute atmosphere. The menu isn't huge but has a lot to offer in the way of flavor and variety of options. We ordered the grilled octopus, cauliflower soup, pork chop (IT WAS HUGE), and a pasta dish and enjoyed every bit of everything. Food was fresh, prepared perfectly and the portions were just right. The staff was helpful when we couldn't decide what to order- asking the right questions to help us narrow down our options.

What a Find!!

Shopping in Seattle for Christmas and a shop owner suggested this place emphasizing excellent food!!! Was she ever right!!! It was SO GOOD that the 4 of us thought about making a monthly trek from Olympia just to eat here!! Two of the 4 have symphony tickets for Thursday and made reservations!!! The salads were very different, drinks great with a bartender who really knew her menu.....The entrees were amazing and all 4 of us LOVED what we got.....The desserts were all amazing and even the ice cream was made in house... Must go!!!

Cool neighborhood Restuarant

By anthrologic |

If you are looking for something out of downtown Seattle, slightly to the North, go no further than the Stumbling Goat on Phinney Ave. This foodie town can serve up all kinds of dishes, bt this place has a great atmosphere that rivales any euro gastro pub, and food and drink that compares.

Great Balance of Taste & Trends, Atmosphere & Affordability

By Solo-Sojourner |

The fantastic happy hour menu changes with the seasons and has something for every palate. The presentation and flavors are just as enjoyable as watching the awesome bartender speedily making scrumptious & colorful selections. We feasted on 3 perfectly prepared appetizers: mushroom risotto with large pieces of chanterelles and other types, colorful pickled quail eggs, and melt-in-your mouth smelt with homemade pickles. We loved the amazing champagne-like cider on tap. We moved on to confit chicken sliders with Tamarind BBQ sauce and pickled red onion on brioche, and an order of smoked lox crostini with greens. Finishing up with delectable made-to-order hot bread pudding with molten chocolate and cognac, we couldn't have been more pleased with this warm, artistic, establishment, matched only in ambiance by very good food and service.

Sadly, it is closing at the end of the month

By greatcats |

If you want to dine here, you had better get busy, the restaurant is closing after a long and very successful run. As with many buildings in Seattle, the building is being demolished. Very sad. It is a small and lovely restaurant with excellent service.

excellent dinner, fair prices

By besyta |

It is a very nice bistro, the atmosphere is very pleasant and relaxed, suitable to everybody, and great if you wish to have a conversation without shouting. The food is really great, we had the Salmon and the Grilled grass fed Hanger steak , both cooked to perfection. The salmon comes with veggies that were just perfect. Fairly priced. Highly recommended.

Stumbling Goat in the top 10 in Seattle

We have had at least five meals hear since the ownership/kitchen changes. We've been here for happy hours, brunch, and number of dinners. Uniformly excellent. Local sourced organic starting materials whenever possible. The boar and octopus have been phenomenal.

Total pleasure

By Darrel C |

On Thursday, October 2, we entertained a UW guest speaker. We had reserved a table for six @ 6:15: ready when the first two of our group arrived. Our server was knowledgeable [I asked if they could make a negroni: "yes," and it arrived post haste], and when we all were seated, he recited the specials. We all ordered different starters and mains. I checked them all over as they arrived and would have enjoyed any of them. I had an excellent special heirloom tomato salad and a top-rate risotto con funghi. Service was efficient, and we never had the feeling that our servers were neglecting us: we've all been where we kept looking for someone to fill our water glass or bring that next glass of wine. I'm a fan. I had only been here once, many years ago, and am delighted we discovered it again.

Quaint bistro and a favorite of the neighborhood

By Mitch_K2012 |

Located in our old neighborhood, this bistro has always been on our list to try. We stopped in on a whim and had a delightful meal. Definitely feels like a local place with mostly adults and a nice level of sophistication. We split the local cheese plate and shred (3) different cheeses. The entrees were appropriately sized and well seasoned, although a bit pricey. All in with tip just under a $100 for two adults.

Talk about a hidden gem!

By FederalWayMom |

We had tickets for the Taproot theatre down the street so we wanted to find something close for dinner. After reading some reviews and seeing this place get mentioned over and over, we decided to give it a try. Parking isn't fun although perhaps because our reservations were early (5:30), we did manage to find something on the residential street behind the restaurant. We were a bit surprised that the place was pretty empty on a Saturday night but it did pick up by the time we left around 7:00. The menu seemed a little limited but there were quite a few specials that our server Brian told us about. Husband and I shared three appetizers - all were phenomenal. Our standard for a winning dish is one we'd order again. We got the corn/chanterelle bisque, spinach salad and pork belly. We split all three and they were incredible. The chowder was creamy without being heavy. The salad presented well, tasted fresh and the larger size was big enough for us to share. The pork belly had a huckleberry "gastrique" as a sauce (we had to ask what it was) and honeyed onions (sounds strange, doesn't it? But it added a sweetness with a different texture that was incredible) and we found ourselves licking the plate with our fingers. We were pretty amazed at how wonderful these dishes were considering the place seemed pretty casual. Husband ordered a New York strip steak that was a dinner special. It came with matsutake mushrooms, beets, mashed potatoes and a red wine demi glace. My husband doesn't care for beets but his eyes rolled back and he used an expletive when he described how good they were. I had a "seasonal" risotto with lobster and chantrelle mushrooms. Creamy and yummy with a very good portion (larger size)! We split both and definitely would order both again. Of course, at a place like this, we had to save room for dessert. Hubbie had a peach huckleberry cobbler that had him ooing and ahhing while I went for the flourless chocolate cake. They were so good that we considered a THIRD dessert. We were pretty full at that point and figured we better head to the theatre. Our bill came out to about $130 (which included 3 "mocktails"). For a restaurant of this caliber in Seattle, this seemed EXTREMELY reasonable! Brian was an excellent server. He seemed casual in shorts but he could describe the menu in detail and really seemed to understand the preparation of each item. Several other servers made sure our water was always full and soiled plates were quickly removed. My husband is still talking about the dinner from last night. We live far enough away that coming here will have to be a treat but seeing that we're considering season tickets for the Taproot theatre, I KNOW we'll be coming here again. If you drive too fast, you'll miss this place off of Greedwood and 85th. Definitely check it out!

Our Favorite Restaurant

By RenegadeX |

The Stumbling Goat Bistro is simply an excellent restaurant. We eat here fairly often, and are never disappointed. I always leave here feeling good - not stuffed/bloated or with a why did I eat that type of feeling. The food is excellent, with specials and the menu fluctuates so there is usually something new. The desserts are also excellent. The chef is top notch, the bartenders, owners & staff are great, and the happy hour rocks too. You can't go wrong eating here!

Excellent food, not inexpensive!

By Neal S |

Have eaten here several times, for both dinner and weekend breakfast. They have a very small menu for both. Most of what I have eaten has been excellent, except for the Hangar Steak. Sometimes it is tough. The Boar is excellent and you can get it, as well as other entrees in either small or large plate. To keep costs down, the large plate can feed two, with an added salad. The place itself is very nice inside, but small, so the noise level can be quite loud. Good couples place.

Great dining experience

By MAB98133 |

Scrumptious small plates. We would have liked a little more marrow for the price, but the preparation was great. Staff recommended wine and port pairings for our entrées and dessert and both were perfect. Trout entrée was perfectly prepared with crispy skin and succulent flesh. Lamb entrée deliciously rich. Every detail down to pepper and olive spreads for the bread was well presented and mouth watering. Service excellent with the exception of service of dessert was less than prompt. Our server noticed this without our prompting and took care of it. We have a new favorite Seattle bistro.

Stumbling Customer Service

By Sarah Q |

The server was upon us constantly. She seemed to know the in's ands out's of the menu, but wanted hurry us along with our meal. For example she asked right away, " do you know what you want to order?", we replied, "not yet", she responded,"I need to get the order into the kitchen," we answered, "okay just give us one more minute." As we sat there and chatted we noticed 2 more parties coming into the restaurant and I thought to myself, is she is hurrying them along too? Isn't dinner supposed to be a time where you can relax and enjoy a meal because you are paying them to prepare it? We ordered the lamb special and the steak. The steak was really quite good, but the lamb was only a fraction of what they described, I felt like I had to work to get what little meat off the bone. I wouldn't pay to go back nor recommend to friends. Better luck elsewhere.

Lovely bar, great food, my favorite neighborhood spot

By Nicole |

I love Stumbling Goat. I'd love to go every Friday night and sit at the bar watching Carla make great drinks. The cheese plate during happy hour along with a salad is an ample meal. We have gone for three family birthdays in the past year and enjoyed everyone. The menu is small but oh so tasty. The staff are personable and not overbearing. The tapanade is a great tempting treat while you ponder the menu. It can be cool inside, so bring a wrap. Lovely!

Best Pork Belly Appetizer ever!

By Cynthia M |

Very nice meal and definitely one of the best pork belly dishes I have ever had. I started with the Tails & Trotters Braised Pork Belly and the combination of flavours and the preparation was flawless. My entree of Confit Duck Leg was a bit disappointing however and on the drier side. I would have preferred a nice sauce or glaze to go with it. For dessert I got a ice cream macaron sandwich and it was absolutely amazing. Two out of three courses were wonderful and I would recommend for sure. Parking was a bit of a pain but worth it if you are in the area.

Jam packed at 5:30 on a Saturday Night

By James C |

This past weekend I went up to Seattle to help a friend move into her first house in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood. We were all exhausted and starving and thought if we go eat something early a reservation will not be a problem. The closest restaurant was the Stumbling Goat but Greenwood Avenue has dozens of eating options. Our hearts sank when we walked in, it was completely full and the first question was do you have a reservation. But a quick look at the menu and the knock out aromas form the kitchen had us hooked, we did not have a reservation but we definitely wanted to eat there. The hostess was awesome, despite our bedraggled appearance she she had a late party that she wanted to give a little more time but if we could be patient it might work out for us, and lo and behold it did. Service continued to be awesome and the food came to us quickly, conversation pretty much stopped at out table as forks and spoons were lifted to mouth and eyes rolled back into our heads accompanied by the low moans of satisfaction. Yes that good. We stared with Artichoke Bisque and some salads, scrumptious, the concept here is Farm to table and they will tell you exactly where ingredients are sourced. For dinner the Steak, the seafood stew and the vegetarian risotto were so delicious we all had to taste everyone else dish. While we were quietly enjoying our meal we were able to hear a lot of what was being said around us as the proprietor made time to interact with many tables. One couple drives to this restaurant from Bellingham every week they love it so, I don't really know Washington real estate but the folks at our table who did thought that was an impressive endorsement. If that weren't enough we heard them then ask if the owner would be interested in opening another restaurant in Bellingham which they would like to finance. I can only say, I know how they feel, I want a Stumbling Goat in California now.

Went here on a whim and was blown away by the quality of the food, both in taste and visuals. Fantastic servers and cocktail list. Their dessert list was amazing, but we were too full to eat - will definitely go back.

Outstanding grilled octopus

By McGlamma |

My husband and I popped in for a drink and an appetizer while out walking on a Saturday evening. We sat outside at a bar which faces the street and enjoyed a lovely Seattle summer evening. Though a bit pricey, the food was outstanding. My grilled octopus was one of the best I've ever had. My husband had wild boar pate and was also pleased. The house-made bread is crusty and a bit salty--yummy. Great service and friendly people. Will definitely go back.

Odd name, excellent restaurant

By Nann Z |

Stumbling Goat has something for everyone, and it all seems to be excellent. There are veggie dishes and gluten-free dishes, small portions and large portions to choose from. I started with a lovely spinach and frisée salad with bacon, pickled red onion, hard boiled egg, red wine vinaigrette. Then I went veggie and tried the farrow cake with seasonal vegetables and mushrooms. I'm not a veggie, but I was curious about what this was, and my curiosity paid off. It was very, very good. I tasted a friend's wild boar bolognese, and he chose well too. The other two at the table were happy with their choices as well. Desserts were wicked, but devastatingly good. Service was excellent, but with one complaint - and this applies to every restaurant we have been to - the waiters clear away dishes as soon as people finish each course, rather than waiting until everyone is done. Is this old-fashioned, generational? Am I the only one who finds this bothersome? It does make me feel they are rushing us to finish and get out of there, even if they're not. Aside from that, no complaints. Ambience was pleasant, bar scene looked active and busy, beer and drinks list were adequate, and prices were not out of line. Brunch on weekends.

Great food, popping flavors, good attention to small detail

By rosemary08 |

For folks who enjoy 'sussing out the hidden ingredients adding flavor to food, and for those who like bold flavors , generous portions, and then those who enjoy the pairing of rich, wonderful foods in one dish. Guess I liked it. Alot. Calamari, speck salad, salmon on celeriac with brown butter drizzed on the edges...the chocolate cake was too much after all that, but is definitely on my list for next time. Happy hour at bar looked like a very good bargain -- ca\amari there (we begged at table). Noise in room (noisy after work party of 6) to left a bit much --stay to right if you can.

So So Delicious! Every bite!

By seattlemeetsmontana |

SO. GOOD. We came here for dinner and loved every single thing we tasted and drank. ALL of it. Starting with the bread with just the right amount of salted crust and dipping oil to our drinks (gin and tonic for him with homemade tonic [it was an orange-ish color so there must have been a secret sweet ingredient added]- he called it "refreshingly unique" and the rhubarb swizzle for me...so yummy). We ordered the buttered lettuce salad which was stacked high with amazing homemade blue cheese dressing and creamy butter lettuce leaves. The small plate special was gnocchi with mushrooms and a balsamic demi glaze. Chunks of parmesan made me want to scrape the plate after every bite. For our meals I had the Hanger steak which was done perfectly with mashed potatoes and asparagus. He had the wild boar bolognese and we literally had to stop after every bite just to say "mmmmmmmm". It was so good. For dessert we shared the flour-less chocolate torte which had salted caramel gelato on top. It was just the right size, dense, rich and absolutely amazing. We made a reservation for a Thursday at 7:00pm not knowing if it would be busy, it actually wasn't bad at all and we saw many walk-ins easily get tables without a wait. We also were surprised to learn that you do not need to dress up AT ALL. We erred on the side of caution and chose not to wear jeans but many of those around us were in jeans, work-out gear and flip flops. It's definitely a neighborhood bistro and you can make it what you want. Service is friendly but not overbearing. We were chugging water and our glasses were never empty but our server didn't spend a ton of of time at our table or bug us, she was there when we needed here and made sure we were satisfied. We will be back. Over and over.

Stumble in for weekend BRUNCH!

On a tip from a friend we took a short Uber ride from our Seattle hotel to this neighborhood bistro on a Saturday morning and were delighted with the menu. Plus, no wait to be seated. We are adventurous eaters and they serve delicious duck eggs! Okay, they have regular eggs too, but seriously, try the Duck Confit Hash, or the Anaheim White Cheddar omelet with duck eggs instead of regular eggs. Both were excellent!

A local fave

By Rick D |

Stumbling Goat is just minutes from our home and is one of our special occasion favorites. It's pricey but we feel that it's good value. Everything from drinks to service to dinners are of very high quality. Have to admit that we don't usually get to the desserts ... but I'll bet they're marvelous, too. We like the challenge to the ordinary that the menu occasionally presents. We like the servers' knowledge, friendliness, and attention. We really like the many crafted cocktails. But mainly, it's a very, very nice place to hang out, have some good food and drink, and enjoy life.

Incredible

By Babies6 |

Service as well as food was exceptional. They have wonderful entrees to choose from but the pork chop was definitely something I would go back and order.

Good, but pricey.

By Fionamic |

The entrees are well prepared and presented, but very pricey and not many vegetarian choices (one - when we were there - a mixed bean casserole). It was not busy yet there was quite a wait for our food and drinks and a mix-up with our order. Lots of unique meat lover options ... pork belly, beefalo ... Other than that, the food was good and I love the Phinney neighborhood.

Interesting, but pricey

By mjpflum |

We were visiting our daughter and treated her and her partner a dinner out for her birthday. She lives right down the hill from the restaurant. I understand we are from the Midwest, but it was very, very pricey for oh hum food. $20 for a corkage fee....... Service was great, atmosphere very nice, and our daughter loved it, so mission accomplished.

Delicious Food + Excellent Service

By rukind2 |

This was our first visit to Stumbling Goat and it will not be our last. Last night we experienced professional, friendly service, skilled in customer interaction. We arrived a few minutes early and we were invited to sit at the bar. The bartender is passionate about her work and makes marvelous concoctions. Once seated in a side room rich in deep colored walls, we were undisturbed by adjacent diners. Not too noisy at all despite the room being full. Our selections were excellent. My pork chop was HUGE and delicious; not dried out at all. A decent wine selection (althougtn it could be deeper). Our server brought it all together and was not too intrusive. All the food is sourced from WA state suppliers/growers. The back of the menu has a list of all with their web sites; a nice touch. Parking can a bit tough on side streets but we lucked out and found one right away. All in all a nice experience for a neighborhood restaurant. Bon appetite!

Fantastic neighbourhood restaurant

Loved our meal here on our last night in Seattle. Everything was cooked perfectly and was delicious. Seasonal ingredients, creative twists and generous portions. Great atmosphere too on a busy Saturday night. Highly recommended.

too pricey

By Trippy44b |

Good food, but way overpriced. $12 for two very tiny burger pieces! If I had known how small they were, I never would have ordered them. Plus, they upsell you on the cheese plate. It costs $3 more for condiments. I have been to many wine bars and ordered cheese plates and never have they not included condiments. I would not go back.

Wonderful Diner

This was a wonderful treat. The food was outstanding. The restaurant was packed but the service was top notch and the food divine.

Stumble into a winner!

By doniji |

Although the seating is a bit tight, as in many of today's restaurants, the food at the Stumbling Goat is expertly prepared and beautifully plated. The duck confit is a highlight of the brunch menu. Service was friendly and the cost was reasonable. It is easy to find free street parking near the restaurant.

Sensational!

Second trip to this wonderful restaurant and what a treat! We would highly recommend this lovely little gem. The wonderful limited menu means they put love in every dish - and it shows. Wonderful food, wonderful service, great wine and cocktails. We have been to many small venues in Seattle for dinner and this is just the best !

Mind-blowing food & specialty drinks

By BiologistInTheWild |

First of all, our waiter was phenomenal and expertly guided us when we asked for recommendations. We started with the cheese plate along with a special appetizer served on a bed of yellow beets - both were exquisite. My husband ordered the special for the night - rabbit. We'd never had rabbit before and had no idea what to expect. WOW! A waitress mentioned that they were trying to determine whether they should put that permanently on the menu and I really hope they do. I had the pan seared halibut, and while it paled in comparison to the flavor of the rabbit, it was cooked to absolute perfection - sublimely light & juicy inside, slightly crisp outside. We ended with some sort of amazing cordial that I can't remember the name of - very tiny glass, very strong alcohol content - the waiter described how they strained the alcohol through the rind peelings in cheesecloth... or something to that effect... whatever they did was unbelievably worth it. What a special meal.

Quality remains tops

This relaxed small district exceeds your expectations. Unique flavors blended in the cocktails. Beautiful, exciting entrees, with just a touch of this or that to create a flavor you want to sit and enjoy. Service is prompt and food is always served at the proper temperature.

Yum in a Different Part of Town

By AlexTeacherTraveler |

I love seeing all the different areas of a city. This restaurant wasn't far from UW, in a towny area. I loved just walking around the streets. Restaurant was nice and understated. But nothing understated about the food! Best lamb I've ever had, duck, beef, quail, all of it magnificent. Dessert totally worthwhile. Not inexpensive, but not a nightmare. $75 per person for 2 drinks, dinner and dessert.

A great way to celebrate Seattle Restaurant Week ...

By Rina M |

We took advantage of this Bisto's Seattle Restaurant Week promotion (3 Course Dinner for $30). The atmosphere was warm and intimate on a rainy Seattle spring day. We chose from a limited menu (due to the promotion), but the food and the service were excellent. The kitchen was more than willing to accommodate our special dietary needs (we don't eat meat, chicken, pork, or shellfish). I had the Artichoke Parmesan Bisque followed by Seasonal Risotto and my partner was thrilled to have trout as the protein in his appetizer course, as well as Pan-Seared Idaho Trout for his main course. My only "complaint" was the dessert course ... I had the Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich and, to my dismay, the tantalizing chocolate balsamic caramel was drizzled on the plate rather than poured over the top of the sandwich (making it so much harder to get every precious drop of the source -- short of licking the plate that is).

Great Spot with Excellent Food and Service

By Heather |

Fast becoming one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle. I live in Portland, OR but visit Seattle often. The Stumbling Goat is everything a PNW style bistro should be - limited menu (meaning fresh and locally sourced meats and produce), fantastic personalized service, and unique dishes. I had dinner with friends on a Sunday night and it was splendid. The hanger steak was perfectly cooked and was tender and flavorful. The GF chocolate/peanut butter cake was a perfect ending.

Not what you'd expect

By MrsAnaChang |

Next to a pub you'll find Stumbling Goat Bistro along Greenwood Ave. You should probably get a reservation and take a look at their menu beforehand. We enjoyed the restaurant, it was different and so were the dishes. The food was great but limited. I had the quail and my fiance had the steak. There weren't too many options and you're bound to spend between $60 and $120 for two. The drinks are amazing, specifically the mocktails. The staff was exceptionally friendly, something I hadn't expected. I wouldn't say this place is a must but it is perfect for romantic and pricey family dinners.

Lots to like

By Meg W |

My husband declared this his new favorite restaurant. He had the romaine salad with dill ranch, the halibut special, and the gf chocolate cake. I ordered the hanger steak and while the flavor was good, it was too tough for me. Maybe it's the nature of this cut of meat. Everything else about this visit was great, including our server, David.

A perfect evening

What a wonderful find! Very interesting menu, superb food and service, nice atmosphere. A perfect spot for a special evening.

Wonderful, cozy and romantic.

Why is it that I am so good at reviewing places when we're out of town but I'm so lax when it comes to great spots in my own town? Well, I apologize to Stumbling Goat because this review is long overdue. We're in the neighborhood and have walked by Stumbling Goat more times that I care to admit without going inside. We finally made a reservation and ventured in for a proper culinary experience recently, and I am so glad that we did! The ambiance is wonderful, cozy and romantic without seeming overdone. At our romantic table for two, it felt like we were the only two people on the world (but that we did indeed have a great chef with us). The staff was helpful but didn't hover and every part of our meal was delectable....that's hard to find! Now that we know it's in the neighborhood, we save our pennies for every opportunity to return to Stumbling Goat.

The Stumbling Goat - Stumbles

By barbaramcmahon |

We were returning guests for a birthday celebration for my mother in-law, the evening started off well with appetizers but then two large tables were seated in our room - very loud, hot/stuffy and no service. The pork chop and rabbit entrees were fine but my black cod entree was very small portioned, overly salty and incorrectly dressed. When I finally got the waiters attention he simply took the entree away, no offer to replace or any other action (it was removed from the check) - this was the last we saw of our waiter. The evening went down hill from there, no service and we finally had to ask the owner for the check. The owner agreed the night had not gone well but her only reponse was "Thanks for the inputs". The Stumbling Goat - Stumbled.

Much wine. Such delicious. Wow.

By ThiefLUPIN |

Nice, boutique-ish menu with a huge variety of wines. Everything was delicious, from the steak to the cheese board. The atmosphere is very nice too - would be great for a date night or any other situation where you'd like to casually impress someone.

Release the Kracken.....!

By iGuy |

OK - so you gotta love a restaurant with a creative cocktail list that includes something named after a mythical monster and what a delightfully wicked drink it was. In addition to great libations our party of 4 enjoyed a tremendous chicken dish, creamy white truffle risotto, a decent pork chop and a "to die for" Beefalo short rib dish -yummmmy! Desert we shared and that was the only decision we regretted - sharing - how stupid! This is one of those great lil neighborhood spots that a traveller is sometimes lucky enough to discover - kinda like Paprika in Victoria. I liked the way their food partners were credited on the menu - nice touch. I'll certainly go back and give it a hearty thumbs up.

Consistently excellent

By Annie B |

I've been to Stumbling Goat about 10 times now and tonight, AGAIN, I had an excellent meal. Afterward, my friends and I were commenting how consistently good they are. The butter lettuce salad is always a must. My friends like the blue cheese dressing, while I go with the vinaigrette. One time, I had a hankering for hot chocolate and the owner said that even though she techincally didn't have it on the menu, she'd whip something up. This was a couple years ago and my mouth still waters for that cup of frothy deliciousness. She told me at the time that she used house-made chocolate mousse as a base! They have a full bar and make excellent cocktails and street parking in the area is always ample and easy.

their roasted chicken is supreme, and highly recommended! it comes with loads of soft roasted garlic and a scoop or two of mashed potatoes with an au jus. dinner here is a little expensive, but it's worth it.

Not your knock your socks off good but we'd go back!

Went to this quaint bistro at my nephew's recommendation . It is a small and colorfully painted bistro in the northern part of Seattle. The menu is locally sourced . Fresh fish of the day as well as lamb shanks, beef and risotto are freshly prepared. It's not a fast food place, you will wait for quality food. The service seemed a wee bit rushed with the place filling up. But it was overall good. A small complaint is there is maybe one or two superficial ingredients in my entree.(salmon)

Go for Happy Hour in the Enchantress lounge. One of the best deals in town. Don't miss the Wagyu beef mini-burgers. Yum.

Trendy neighborhood gem

By evansemery1117 |

Unusually good service! great ambience and good food. The heirloom tomato salad was one of the best I've ever had, the gnocchi was an 'interesting' experiment by the chef --tasty but more like mini mashed potato cakes. the fresh garden vegetables were perfect.

Delightful neighborhood bistro

By cakworth |

We prefer neighborhood bistros with great food and the Stumbling Goat delivered with delicious food and stellar service. The wild boar bolonese was well-balanced and gluten-free with a substitution of light and fluffy mashed potatoes to replace the pasta. Our guests both praised their qual and chicken dishes. One of the highlights was the skill of our waiter who could teach others how to "do it right". Always there at the right time and absent the rest of the time. This will be one of our go-to restaurants in the future.

What a find!

By Dermop |

I hesitant writing a review for selfish reasons...I don't want this place to get too crowded when people start finding out about it! We have been to the Stumbling Goat 3 times in the last 6 weeks! Once for brunch, once for dinner at the bistro and once for take out food, which we picked up. The brunch is amazing and that is how we got turned on to it. Amazing fresh ingredients and you can tell they really take pride in how they cook and present everything. We decided to come for dinner and wow! Everything was perfectly cooked and incredibly tasty. We loved the dinner so much, we decided to call to see if they would do dinner to go for us, and they did. The food was just as good taking it out, than eating it in, which is not always the case when you bring food in. The place is warm and nicely decorated. Parking is much easier than other places in Seattle, so that is a huge plus as well. Just two very minor complaints: The food does take a while to get to you. I think they get quit busy, so be prepared to wait a bit longer than you think for the food. The place can also get pretty loud. I think the acoustics in the north room is louder than the larger room to the south. We found ourselves yelling like everyone else. But these two very minor things should not take anything away from the restaurant itself, which is amazing, and has been put into our top 10 in Seattle!

Great local option in the Phinney area - worth checking out

We literally stumbled upon this place and found the food to be very good. The service was good and it was a good local atmosphere away from all the touristy spots. We had a couple great experiences here and highly recommend it to the North Seattle crowd. It also feels good to support local businesses and it's a nice drive home!

Happy with Happy Hour

By Megan P |

This is a neighborhood joint, so on a whim we came one night I didn't want to cook. The happy hour menu is substantial and we made our dinner off small plates. Best dish - house made pastrami sandwich. One the best ever. Roasted Brussels sprouts, yummy. Boar sliders were in the spicy side. The Baileys bread pudding was freshly baked. So happy. Thumbs up too for the Havana cocktail (maitai-ish).

Best Bistro in Seattle

Exceptional small plates and drinks every visit! We enjoy happy hour here often and occasionally invite friends to join us for dinner. Every dish is perfectly prepared with fresh, local and seasonal delights that change frequently. Favorites include a variety of bisques, roasted duck and the mad hatcher chicken that has been on their menu for over a decade. We leave feeling satisfied and eager to return. The intimate atmosphere is one of the best in town and the staff welcome us each time we visit. Highly recommended!

Date Night for Foodies

By Zoramon |

If you are a foodie you will not be disappointed by the Goat. Using the very best local ingredients and treating them with care, they turn out dish after dish of great food. Good cocktails and a good wine list round out this spot. My favorite go-to for a special night out.

Good happy hour at the bar

By VeritasAzure |

Went with friends to have a light dinner. The happy hour menu is great with several options for well-priced wine or cocktails and lots of great little plates. We had a delicious truffle risotto, a cheese plate, and a steak sandwich. Good quality food especially at the happy hour prices. The atmosphere was a bit more subdued than we expected but it was a Sunday night during a holiday weekend.

The goat doesn't stumble at all

By Jack800 |

Inventive menu, excellent preparation, generous portions, friendly and very smart service staff, plus an intriguing selection of cocktails. I enjoyed a superb Dark 'n Stormy -- the ginger beer was house-made and distinctive. Root beer is also house-made; our server brought me a taste -- an example of the attentiveness he demonstrated throughout the meal. The corn and chanterelle bisque was truly outstanding -- one of the best soups I have tasted. The specials that evening included house-made pappardella with goat ragout; the pasta was delightfully chewy and the goat (not one of my regular meat choices) was tender and flavorful. Too full for dessert but the menu was very tempting.

Great little Bistro

Did the dine around Seattle promotion of "three for thirty" three courses, thirty bucks. Had the pork Tenderloin main course and butternut squash bisque as an appetizer. Homemade ice cream for dessert. It was a Wednesday evening, and it was PACKED. A testament to the delicious food while being in an area of Seattle with NUMEROUS places to eat all within a five minute walk of this place. A little noisy, but overall a great dining experience.

Been very good in the past, but this time a caution

By TomWall60 |

We have gone to this restaurant many times and enjoyed it enough to keep coming back. Four of us went there and it was during Seattle's Dine special, 3 courses for $30 month. Three of our party ordered from the special menu while one ordered the boars head ragu off of the regular menu. That turned out to be a mistake. It was obviuous that the boars head meat came from the bottom of the pot and was likely in the fridge because most of the people were having the items from the special menu. The meat was tough and very salty becuase it was likely cooked down. Also, there was a warning sign. There were shavings of parm cheese on top of the dish and they were not at all melted. The dish was served cold. It always amazes me when a restaurant is not busy, as was the Stumbling goat, that the kitchen can't figure out how to make the meals for a party of four so that they all come out hot at the same time. So, the warnings here are stay away from the regular menu during a restaurant special menu time, ask the wait person to request the kitchen to go easy on the salt (you can always add more if you want), and if your party's meals appear as if they would have different preparation times, ask the wait person to requestteh kitchen to try to time the outcomes of the meals. Hopefully the Stumbling Goat will see this report and adjust their efforts accordingly.

Fabulous find in SEA

Met for drinks and dinner at the Stumbling Goat on the recommendation of a business client that is from SEA. Worth the long cab ride from our hotel by the market, nice wine list and small plates, thoughtful entrees. Enjoyed it.

Tried to like it, but...

By Lucca31 |

We read all the good reviews and were excited to have a great meal. I From the mock/cocktails to the apps to the entrees no one in our party had anything they even liked a little. We tried the octopus (rubbery and a bit fishy) and bone marrow (bland) for apps. 2 of us had the special-- Black Cod. It was bland and served in corn water with bland carrots. One of us had the gnocchi. I've had gnocchi all over the US and in Italy and I can say it was unlike anything I'd ever tasted. I think it was potato cakes, not gnocchi. It had little taste.one of us had the Boar bolognese and it was hi hum at best. For $170+, you should expect some quality food. Our server was nice, and the food looked pretty, but that's it.

One of our favorites

By Cliff M |

We have visited the Stumbling Goat many times since they have opened. They have never let us down. The food and the service are always spot on. They change the menu a lot, but they always have certain favorites on the menu. The pork belly, the bone marrow, and the pork loin are always excellent. We tend to order the specials a lot. Great atmosphere, love the location since it is near our house. I highly recommend this place.

Relaxing Atmosphere, great mixed drinks

By Carol J |

I go to the Stumbling Goat when I am in Seattle visiting my Mom. I have not had a meal, but the mixed drinks are amazing. They make everything from scratch from different simple syrups for the drinks to dehydrated little garnishes for the drinks. The Lemon Drop is like nothing you have ever had. The staff us nice and friendly. The interior is nicely decorated, subtle lighting, a long bar with bar stools. The happy hour is perfect for a nice drink and small plates of food. Very interesting dishes. I'd really recommend this restaurant.
