We ate dinner here one night. It was good. The salsa was fresh and spicy. The queso was good. Not your typical cheese dip. My family ordered tacos, quesadillas, and burritos. It was all good. I would like to note that my child thought that beef indicated ground beef. It does not. It is actually shredded beef which was not my child’s fav. Overall, we enjoyed it.

Stopped in here because it was close to the hotel and we were tired. Glad we did because the chips were different and the chimichangas had a different sauce than your normal Mexican restaurant. It was lighter and sweeter but very good. The homemade salsa was very good, the guacamole was fresh and tasty. I would eat here again

We were finding restaurant prices to be outrageous in this area off Michigan Ave. Then I remembered Su Casa from my young days and found it still there. The atmosphere is unique, colorful, fun ! The waitress, when I told her I was last there decades ago, said she had been working there for 35 years ! We were early enough (around 6pm) that it was not too crowded. Service very good. Menu offered many choices and was modest in price. I had steak and chicken fajitas (around $15). Nicely presented, tasty . It was not the best I've ever had, but it was very good. Would return .

poor food. I hate in here Monday afternoon as I was killing time before heading to the baseball, and fancied Mexican food. Wish I had gone to Chipotle. I should have got the hint, when I tired the salsa and it was bland, but thought the meal itself would see an improvement. I had the beef ranchero burrito, this again was bland and lacked any flavour, just basically plastered in cheese. the cost of the meal and a soft drink was $11, so I suppose you get what you pay for. Wouldn't recommend nor return.

We went to Su Casa for lunch with our two granddaughters on December 28 and were very disappointed in the experience. While the menu listed soft drinks, the waitress told us that she would have to go “ next door” to get them and that they would be flat by the time she returned with them. She could only offer unsweetened iced tea. (I suspect that this is a ploy by the restaurant to sell more margaritas. )We ordered the tea for the girls and very average, overpriced house margaritas ($9) for ourselves. The food was average.

The décor and ambiance are wonderful. The $10 small margarita (even for Chicago prices) was definitely overrated. Our waiter was not very unexcited to be serving us. I had the impression it was because I was with two teenage boys so he knew we wouldn't be racking up a large bar tab. My food (I had a sample plate) was ok. Not the best tamale I've ever had by far but the chimichanga was good. My son ordered three beef enchiladas ala carte and they were not that great. And the "queso dip" was made with velveeta. I wouldn't expect that at an authentic Mexican restaurant. Had the service been a bit better, I would have looked past the mediocre food. The place was pretty empty at 7pm on a weeknight.

Although the margaritas were fine, the steak fajitas were tough and the presentation pretty uninspiring... shame really, as the location is really prime.

Seven of us ate at Su Casa on a Friday afternoon and were amazed to be seated right away and to be able to get a huge choice of lunch specials for under $7.00. Food was great, service was great, and the chips and salsa were the best I've had in a while. All seven of us were happy and well-fed!

Was looking for tacos and definitely found them. Salsa is good and fresh with a nice little bit to it. The queso fidido was good only thing is they were out of chorizo so the substituted pabalano. But the tacos rancheros was definitely good. Service was good would definitely go back.

The place was a good place for Tex Mex food; my wife enjoyed her fajitas combo (along with her margaritas) and I enjoyed my chile relleno (although I would have preferred my dinner on the spicier side). Their table-side avocado was also good

A very mediocre meal with very poor and slow service. We were stopped from leaving by the staff as we had not left enough of a tip!!!!

Started well with a grandmotherly hostess showing us to our table. Had Nachos to start which were over cooked. Ordered Pinot Grigio to go with our meal. Nice enough but would have made all the difference if it was served in a cooler. Cost of wine in the States is extortionate so would expect it to be very good. Main courses were Chicken Fajitas and Chicken Chimichangas which were ‘chewy chicken’ with a mess of over cooked peppers and onions. Chimichangas were deep fried and I just hope that my indigestion settles. Both were served with rice and refried beans. Who needs to buy laxatives with refried beans on offer? No desserts or coffee as we couldn’t wait to get out. Give me my $90 back I cry. We have a 10 star Mexican in Belfast called Acapulco which is everything a good restaurant should be. Ah well. Put it down to bad experience. Won’t be back when next visiting Chicago. Wouldn’t normally be so critical but in this case I feel it was merited.

I have been coming to eat here for over 20 yrs when visiting Chicago and now that I live here, my family and I eat here often...whenever we have family visiting from out of town, this is our go to place. They make tasty margaritas and fajitas but everything is a hit...we have never had a bad meal here. The staff is friendly and never have to wait long for our order.

Lunch specials until 3PM, awesome, fresh-made guac, delicious chips, I will definitely return! Don't miss the margarita - top notch! Chicken enchiladas were delicious!

If you're looking for delicious Mexican cuisine, this is the place! The mole' sauce was amazing! Service was disappointing. The restaurant wasn't busy, and we had to stop the staff and ask for refills on everything--multiple times. But the food is worth it!!

This was the worst Mexican food I have ever had. The chips were very thick and had no flavor. The salsa was spicy but very watery. Everyone in our table of 5 had something different -ranging from tacos to enchiladas-and nothing was good. The food came very fast (quicker than it took for them to take our order) yet the tortilla shells were all soggy. The refried beans had zero flavor. I would not recommend going here-even if you are desperate for food and forgot to make reservations somewhere for dinner.

Fabulously friendly Mexican restaurant tucked away between all the skyscrapers. The staff, cocktails and food were all great. Portion sizes are big - I had chimichangas and my friend a chicken dish. Both gorgeous and perfectly accompanied by a Margarita. It’s nice to support an independent like this and I’d definitely return.

We have been coming to Su Casa for many years now. It never disappoints! We visit Chicago several times a year and always eat here at least once, sometimes twice. The same friendly, attentive staff always waits on us and recognizes us even when we have not visited for months. We love the chips and house-made salsa, we love the margaritas too! Our favorite dish is the Queso Fundido, wrapped in tortillas with refried beans and salsa. We also love the tableside guacamole. They have a new menu now but we can’t bring ourselves to try anything besides our favorites.

Personally I would not order anything fried, very greasy and oil tasted very old. However, everything else ordered...fajitas, rice beans, nachos, tres leches cake, and enchiladas were fantastic.

We just had lunch in this place. They know what they do, quick service, fast delivery, good amount of food and affordable. Extensive list for food and drinks, very good margaritas. Quality of food is average.

Have been here several times for drinks and appetizers. Margaritas never disappoint and food is very reasonably priced and quite good. Quesadillas are great, tortilla soup is excellent. Nachos for whatever reason seem to be a bit scorched but no impact on flavor. Service is always good and servers happy to make suggestions on food choices. Will be back again when in the neighborhood!

Reasonable and great quality food! My daughter and I had margaritas, a burrito, and the fajitas. They were delicious and our waiter was very attentive. Would recommend!

My whole family (including picky eaters and one with a shell fish allergy) can find something to eat! We visit everytime we are in Chicago. Great food and very nice staff.

In Chicago for a few nights and went here for an evening meal. Nice friendly staff, good food and reasonable prices.

We had family visiting from out of town and thought we'd try this place for Cinco de Mayo. Our server didn't seem to understand most of what we were asking for and more than half our orders were wrong and she couldn't even understand the problem so we gave up trying to explain. We didn't see a single smile on any of the faces of the staff. That should have told us everything. My fish tacos were bland and dry and the margaritas weren't even that tasty. The biggest problem for me was the slow and indifferent service.

Quick stop for a drink to keep warm ... staff was so friendly and the environment is warm and inviting.

Nice atmosphere, good service and great food! Shared a combo plate and combo appetizer and everything was great.

Su Casa is in a great location at the heart of it all. The food and the service was average. The value of the meals were good, the highest cost entree being $16.95. Great for a quick bite.

My husband and I ate here because he remembered coming here many years ago. This was not a good choice. The food was average--really not the best Mexican food. The service was not that great either. We were seated quickly, but the server was aloof. I had the fish tacos, which were ridiculously hot, and she told me that if she returned them, the price would be deducted from her wages. If this is true, don't patronize this place. Even if it isn't true, find a different restaurant. Good location.

For different reasons I give it a 5, for the family treatment, good advice in the choice of food but especially for the taste Very rich , recommendable this home space in downtown Chicago

Fresh made at the table Guacamole is one of the best in the city! You can taste cilantro and lime and every bite! The queso and quesadillas were delicious!

I’m a huge fan of queso. I rate the food in Mexican restaurants based on how good their queso dip is and this place has awesome. I definitely will go back just to have another.

Back in Chicago for a visit and this was the worst dining experience I have ever had. The chips smelled and tasted as though they had been fried in rancid oil. My friend ordered Chile Relleno and they were tasteless. I order their Veracruz...the fish tasted dirty and the sauce appeared to be the house salsa & onions...no capers, no olives, no fresh tomatoes no herbs. We both had rice that was dry and crunchy. I seldom give negative reviews, but this was horrible!

I have been coming to Su Casa since 1991. I know people at this restaurant that happily still work at Su Casa. I do not understand what the owners have done to the menu. You have taken the Mexican Soul from the Menu. The mole sauces, tamales, carne aside, are you kidding me. For the last 10 years I have bringing groups to Su casa until this week. Your Menu Change caused my groups to say we are not coming back. I give you 4 tars on this scale, 3 stars for the service I get there, 1 star for your Menu. You are so much better than the current menu. Please bring back the Mexican Soul back to your Menu!

We always visit Su Casa when visiting Chicago. Rivals Detroit's Mexican town area restaurants. Fun traditional decor, pleasant staff (especially Maria). One of the best Margaritas and just what you want in chips & salsa. Order a la carte, get just what you want, food is wonderful.

We were really enjoyed their margarita and atmosphere of the restaurant. The taste of margarita was not too sweet. If I had enough time to drink more, I wanted to drink one more glass of margarita.

Forty-nine years ago my wife and I were newlyweds; we lived down the street from Su Casa and it became one of our favorites. Su Casa is still going strong and so are we. Su Casa features Tex-Mex cuisine. It is every bit as good today as when we first started going there; they have all the Tex-Mex standards, including Enchiladas with Mole sauce which is my favorite. I sat in a booth in the bar area even though I don't drink, so I can't comment on the drinks except to say that the two very congenial bartenders were kept very busy. My waitress Anna saved the day for me; I forgot my credit card and Anna chased me down and said she didn't need it for shopping today. Thank you Anna.

This place is horrible and dirty. We sat outside, however, if I would have seen the inside first I would have run. The service was painfully slow. A giant disappointment!

This was the worst meal I’ve ever had in the USA had a taco meal, the food was cold soft tacos were in pieces when they arrived and were devoid of pretty much any taste, 😑

The place is adorable, quaint and comfortable. The wait staff are VERY efficient, friendly and prompt. The food was DELICIOUS and authentic, not frozen and reheated. I will definitely come here next time we come to Chicago.

We've eaten there countless times and they never disappoint. Food is always amazing and the service is always great.

I love Mexican food and Su Casa did not disappoint. I devoured their enchilidas which were absolutely delicious. I would definitely return.

Great little restaurant in Chicago. Have been stopping in for years. Always sit at bar and bar tenders are great, especially Cesar. Salsa can run a little on the hot side. Food is always fresh and good. Would highly recommended if looking for Mexican fare in the Chicago area

My husband and I were a little leery of Su Casa based on reading mixed reviews. We ended up there by default...we didn't feel like waiting at the the mass of other restaurants in the area. We sat at the bar, which we have found is great when it is just the two of us. We get to chat with the bartender and other patrons who are often regulars. In keeping with tradition we started out with a margarita. All the margaritas are made with freshly squeezed citrus juices which is what makes them magnificent. There are no frilly flavors and frozens just traditional salted/unsalted rim, on the rocks, deliciousness. Beware...they go down very smoothly! They offer many tequilas. Chips and salsa were good; the salsa was spicier than average. We both opted for a combination entree so we could sample several different items. Everything was very good. Each meal is served with beans and rice, but unlike any other Mexican restaurant I've have been to, the portions were appropriate; the whole plate wasn't slopped with beans and rice. The combination entrees were very inexpensive $12-$14! Su Casa was a solid choice for dinner and it gave us a break from the seemingly endless array of Italian options.

We went to this restaurant because it's close to our hotel, and without checking the reviews first. The food is good and authentic. Prices are reasonable and the portion is quite large. The embience is nice. I would recommend it.

Great value Mexican. We had fajitas and some drinks here. Service was good, portion size was excellent, and one of the best meals we had during our stay in Chicago.

The restaurant was clean and had a pleasant atmosphere. We enjoyed the fresh guacamole, which was good. We had carnitas tacos, which was great! Also had steak fajitas, that were ok. We both got a house margarita, 6oz. glass was $14 each! Overall a decent experience, way overpriced!

The worst Mexican food experience ever!!! The food was dry and without flavour. The food presentation looked like dog food. Hard to say anything good about this place.

We were pleasantly surprised with our food. The fajitas were very good and the staff was extremly nice!

Best margaritas! Best service! Cesar, our bartender was wonderful as all the employees are! The ladies that work there are lovely too!

I love Mexican food. I've actually never had a bad meal before (Mexican food or otherwise) until eating at this restaurant. I've had Mexican food in Mexico, out west, you name it. Always love a good Mexican meal. This experience though was disappointing. We read several reviews on Yelp beforehand and needless to say the restaurant wasn't receiving good ratings. People were saying the food wasn't good, who actually likes eating here, etc. I'll admit I thought the reviews were a bit harsh and thought maybe the reviewers were uppity people in the city were expecting high class food. Then there was one review that said "I honestly don't know why this place gets bad reviews. The food was delicious." I thought to myself this reviewer has to be right. I've never had bad Mexican either. So we went to check out the place. I'll sum up my visit by saying this. I'm from Ohio and I'm really low key on food. I can eat anything, I'm not picky. The food here was bad. For starters I don't even know how to describe the refried beans and rice. They didn't taste fresh at all. It felt like I was eating old stale food or maybe it was over cooked. I also ordered the chicken chimichangas. While I appreciated the thick pieces of chicken (instead of shredded), and the fact that they give you three big chimichangas- the meal itself was bland. It was chicken in a tortilla covered in green sauce. That's it. No peppers or toppings such as lettuce, sour cream, tomatoes, guacamole came with the meal. Very plain and bland. Didn't feel like I was eating a chimichanga to be honest. Cheese dip was also just "meh." We ate at another Mexican restaurant down the street a few days later called New Rebozo and it was amazing. Best Mexican food, hands down. Would recommend their restaurant instead for your visit to Chicago.

I read the reviews on TripAdvisor that said this was an average Mexican restaurant so I was a bit hesitant to go but I am glad I did. The décor is a bit dark but the food and service were excellent. The food is good and it is also well priced. The beer was good and so was the service. In fact it was so good I went back for lunch the next day too! I would highly recommend this mid priced Mexican restaurant to anyone.

Went with friends for afternoon Margaritas. They are excellent here. So many different tequilas everything made fresh. We didn't eat so I can't comment on the food. Did discover it is owned by Pizzeria Uno one of our favorites in Chicago.

We’ve been coming to Su Casa for about the last 20 years. The older gentleman at the bar made the best margaritas we ever had. Expensive but the best. This time we tried a few different styles of margaritas and none of them were above average. Prices from $10.50 to $18 each. The salsa was spicy and good. The food was mediocre at best. Next time in downtown Chicago I think will find a different place

Coming from San Diego, I like authentic, not Tex-mex Mexican food. Street tacos made from whatever is roaming the streets are my favorite. The hotter the hot sauce, the better. This place is okay and is good enough if you are craving Mexican food. It's just not anything special.

Pretty good food at a fair price. Authentic atmosphere is the best part of the experience. Beer menu could be a little deeper.

We decided to stop for some Mexican food boy did we choose the wrong place!! We sat for an hour without be waited on and there were 3 other guest in the restaurant at the time! We ordered alcoholic drinks that had no alcohol in them asked about it and they swore they put alcohol in them! We finally get out food it cold and under cooked! For one meal and a drink was $45! Do not waist your time here no worth it!

I had a solo meal here sitting at the bar. The barman was friendly and welcoming, the Pacifico was cold and my fish tacos were basic but flavoursome. This is not a pretentious or sophisticated restaurant, but rather relaxed and fun.

We just happened upon Su Casa and three of our group said they were the best chile rellenos of all time. There was no tostada, but the chicken salad was nice in spite of just being greens, tomatoes and a hunk of chicken. The server was very friendly. The place was empty when we arrived but packed when we left so it must be very popular.

Wasn't very sure about the place when we entered, but good food. We got vegetarian options which is great! Fresh guacamole and crisp nacho chips.

Been to Chicago many times and always make sure we go to Su Casa. I am a margarita snob and will send it back and order something else if I don't like it and Su Casa has the best margaritas in the US. Seriously. The older bartender(not sure his name) is amazing. We ordered the fajitas and they were so good and so authentic. Service is great, servers are friendly and seriously one of the best places in Chicago.

Very colorful decor in this restaurant ! Food wasn't anything special but was good. Has a nice little outdoor seating area next to the street that a person could watch all the goings-on around them.

It is Mexican - sort of. It will pass for Mexican with most people who frequent chains and places that offer what Americans have come to expect. I have eaten here a couple of times and have no strong desire to return anytime soon

I ordered the steak fajitas. They were very good- plenty of food with the serving. The salsa had some heat to it, which was nice.

When my husband lived in Chicago, he would frequently eat here. Upon visiting Chicago, our daughter thought it would be fun to eat here for old time’s sake. To be honest, little has changed. The house margaritas were average, a little too sour for my taste. The salsa was quite spicy and runny. The beef enchiladas could use more sauce and ground beef inside but overall the taste was average. The Chile relleno had a good flavor. The restaurant did seem a bit tired and may not draw the younger generation crowd.

The atmosphere and overall experience was o.k. It is definitely a little pricey for margarita's (even with the special) and the steak fajita's were tough. We had to leave half behind. The chips and salsa were good though.

My husband and I have a long-standing tradition of dining in the rotunda at The Grand Lux for our first meal in Chicago. The wait was over an hour, so we meandered down the road to a neon sign with a cactus beckoning is to a building plucked straight out of Mexico with its colorful and unique facade. People... This was the BEST choice we could have made. Authentic meals were savored as we were surrounded by colorful murals and huge multi/colored bulbs hanging from the ceiling. The food will make you close your eyes to savor it all. (P.S. Get the mango sangria)

My colleague and I enjoyed our food so much during our one week stay that we ate here twice. The food is authentically prepared, the atmosphere is relaxed and informal and the margaritas are excellent

The Shrimp Chimichangas were amazing! I have to say the flavor, textures and shrimp were off the hook...Drop the fork...boom!

After dinner and drinks their is one thing that always sounds good, and that is exactly how we ended up here at the third restaurant from Pizzaria Uno. We were walking home and saw this and "Nachos and margaritas?" was implied and we walked in and found exactly what we were looking for. The service was outstanding and the Nachos Su Casa were soooooo good. The topping were just perfect. The margaritas were also perfectly prepared. A perfect way to end the night!

Looking for something different we went to Su Casa on a recommendation. As it turns out we should have asked if they had actually ordered off the menu or just had drinks. The best part was the margaritas because the food was nothing special.

Small Mexican restaurant near the magnificent mile. Unsophisticated, affordable correct food. Convenient.

Great restaurant for families or couples. The service was fantastic as was the food. The margaritas were very good as well! I would definitely recommend! Not as touristy as some of the other restaurants in the area. Good value.

After the St. Patrick's day parade, we were walking the town trying to get through the crowds and find a place to eat. We randomly popped into Su Casa. They advertised out front a drink special of a top shelf margarita for twelve dollars. That is not pricy for Chicago. The place is tiny, authentically decorated, and load. Not a bad thing. Let's call it atmosphere. The bathrooms are just as cramped. That is a bad thing. Service was great. When the drinks showed up, they too we're tiny. That made them way over priced. We ordered the appetizer sampler platter and cheese dip for starters. The sampler platter consist of a mini burrito, two cheesy nachos, two beef nachos and a jalapeno popper that was prepared in the same fashion as a chile relleno. It was all good just not what was expected. The cheese dip was melted Velveeta with two dices of tomato, two dices of raw onion and a pitch of cellantro. We had the beef chille releno and the El ranchero. Both dishes were good. The beef on both were finely chopped instead of cooked tender. Overall the food was good, not great. The atmosphere was authentic and a bit tight. The service was very prompt and accommodating. If you come from an area that does not have good Mexican, go for the atmosphere. If you are used to great Mexican food, you will be disappointed. I have adding a picture of the prices and hours of operation. Share happiness my friend.

We had a flawless, family experience here. Out of towners, staying across the street. All staff, busboys to waitstaff to hostess were courteous, friendly, and attentive. Real margaritas - not a mix - were terrific. I had steak tacos, loved them. Salsa had a nice amount of heat, still good flavor. Nice looking inside, high ceiling, music was not overly schmaltzy. Very enjoyable and would absolutely go again.

Visited on a week night. Place was quite quiet and was made welcome with a friendly smile. Ordered the beef Enchiladas which were reasonably prices $14. The meal came fairly promptly. The enchiladas arrived with rice and mashed up beans. The meal was luke warm and had very little taste to it. Overall a disappointing experience

Stopped in after shopping to bring a bite back to my room to share with my husband and it look good....Order one of the lunch specials for $6.99 and ended up paying $18! $6 for a side of the spiciest salsa (not happy it was so spicy as the guy I ordered from knew I did NOT want spicy hot!)and a bag of chips! Food was bland...I make better refried beans and I'm from Minnesnowta!) Anyway, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

Ordered 3 chicken tacos. They had nothing on them but a little meat and cilantro & they were dripping with water. Just looked like the plate with the tacos and rice/beans were sitting in the heat lamp for hours.Worst Mexican food I have ever had.

If you want some authentic Mexican food this is definitely not the place. Apart from the lack of authenticity, the restaurant strictly enforces for you to buy pictures from a photographer who will take pictures without asking. Also sold me sour cream for $3 instead of just putting it on my salad.

There are so many Chicago style pizza places in this area they are overwhelming. This place makes a good margarita and solid fajitas. The service was spot on.

The salsa and the queso tasted great. We had excellent friendly and fast service. They kept our water glasses full. We had a unique request on our order that came out without any mistakes. Excellent food.

Never asked for drink order beyond initial water and soda. Plus, after ordering an appetizer, the waitress never be bothered to ask if we wanted an entree. Appetizer sampler was generic. The five nachos were soggy and very average overall.

Quaint place. Service was prompt and the staff very pleasant and attentive. Good selection of beverages that we enjoyed along with the selection of food.

I'm a big fan of Mexican food, so decided to stop in Su Casa when looking for lunch in downtown Chicago. The menu seemed to me to be traditional Mexican fare. The atmosphere was typical Mexican restaurant decor. My food was enjoyable, service was friendly and efficient. Everything was very good, not quite excellent. I would certainly return if I were in the area again.

My dad used to take us to Su Casa when we were kids (about 40 years ago). I haven't been back in ages and on a recent busy day in the city we decided we were craving Mexican food. The place is conveniently located just a few blocks off Michigan but when we walked in, it was like nothing changed and it just showed signs of wear and tear. We sat at the bar and my stool was even very wobbly. The warm chips and salsa were good but not spectacular and the mains were fine. Tortillas were clearly over steamed El Milagro brand. The steak ranchero was good but nothing to really rave about. The oddly positioned ladies room also was a testament that nothing has changed in all these years. Cheap and food priced for families/tourists and drinks priced high for what you'd expect for the location.

Absolutely perfect! The margaritas were amazing. The salsa was too spicy for my taste but everyone else liked it.

My friend had fond memories of this place. We stopped by around 7:00 pm for a light supper. It was practically empty (for good reason!). We were seated but definitely not greeted warmly. Our server brought menus and never asked if we wanted drinks. We ordered the appetizer sampler from the lackluster menu. It reminded me of Taco Bell - nothing memorable. We won’t be back.

We found the restaurant by chance, and were very glad that we did. Our waiter was really friendly and made us feel at home. The quality of food was good , and also the portion sizes. Would definitely recommend the restaurant.

Good value, good menu and good service. Choice of Margaritas on the drinks list. Steak fajitas were very enjoyable. Good restaurant for a decent quick meal.

Had a great meal here, really nice aptmosphere and buzz around the place. Food was fresh, tasty and quick! One thing I really liked is they employ 'not so young' people who give great service and are friendly. Fajitas were so tasty!

Visiting my friend in Chicago and we really wanted tacos and they were amazing. Tasted authentic and definitely would go back.

I have eaten there several time and have never been disappointed. It's small and a little cramped but it's a city restaurant, and you expect that. People were nice and friendly. Not a place for a quiet meal. It's always busy and a bit noisy. They have a bar area also.

I love this place and the food is always very good. Bought a groupon that included 2 margaritas, chips and guac, 2 meals for $30. Everything was super good and we left satisfied. Great service.

I stopped in as it looked very authentic and it was. I was alone sat at the bar and was served by a very nice gentleman. I ordered a drink and it was perfect. I got chips and salsa and cheese quesadilla. Omg. This is the real deal here it was like you were in Mexico. If your a fan please try this place out. Awesome and relatively inexpensive for Chicago

I was here 6 years ago and loved it...came in every day for 3 days (even twice one day)! Came back again this year and had the same good time. Good food, friendly service, authentic Mexican feel and taste, and great value! On our last day in Chicago this time I had my final meal at Pizza Due and found out the connection of Su Casa to that historic restaurant so I am even more impressed with my favourite Mexican restaurant now. Don't change a thing!

We only called in this bar for a drink when we arrived in Chicago but ended up with snacks at the bar. The service was good and the atmosphere great.

Nice place with interesting forniture although quite dirty. Food is not honestly valuable with high cost. There are better place in Chicago

We came here for dinner while staying in the Loop section of Chicago. Started off with nice Margarita's before diving into their 3-way combo. A very good feats of tacos and enchiladas. She loved her Pollo Poblano and we were enjoying the visit here. Our server, Noelia, did a fine job. Highly recommend.

We were sat at a table in the back. It had an appetizer plate on it that looked like it might have been used. There was no silverware or clean plates like on the other table. As soon as our margaritas came there were gnats circling all around us. This is the biggest turn off to me. The salsa was too spicy for either of us, so we ordered table side guacamole. He had several avocados, but you could tell many were bad and he didn’t use them. We were served this giant bowl with this tiny amount of guacamole. He didn’t ask if we wanted everything in it just if we wanted it spicy which we said no. It was flavorful but had too much onion for my liking. We debated just having the drinks and guacamole and leaving but it was cold outside and we were warm so we stayed. Dinner was even more of a let down. The quesadilla was just a mound of melted cheese on a soggy tortilla with flavorless premade guacamole on the side and some other green salsa I did not care for. My friend had fajitas and she said they were good. I definitely will not be trying this one again.

Nothing really to special about this place. They draw you in with the beautiful sign and nice authentic Mexican decor outside and inside but the food itself isn't much better than Taco Bell. I got the Tamala dinner. A ton of dry outer shell with little meat. Drinks on the other hand were very good. With so many other choices to choose from in Chicago I will never return.

We really enjoyed the cinco de Mayo entertainment outside the restaurant. The dancers were wonderful. Good margarita and appetizers.

Was a little leary upon entering restaurant due to its old decor and very dimly lit rooms. Was pleasantly surprised however with the delicious authentic food and fantastic service. Would definitely revisit next time in Chicago :)

First appearances suggest this establishment is old/dirty but on closer inspection you'll find it's just old....in comparison to the other trendy places nearby. This family owned/operated Mexican restaurant however offers charm and a 'real taste' of Mexico. The food served, in my opinion, is truly authentic and great quality......and the bill doesn't break the bank!! Don't read this particular book by the cover........check it out, you're certain to be pleasantly surprised!! Enjoy!!

Visited on a Friday night, it was a quite no problem getting a table. Staff were very friendly, and attentive. The food was all very good, and the portion size was good. Would definitely go back.

Had guacamole and chicken tacos, guacamole was good, tacos ok expected better. Had the golden margarita and it was very good. Don’t think I’d go out of my way to go back.

It was the first restaurant that we visited ,the food is amazing we just tried the enchiladas and tacos , we were looking for a mexican restaurant because we are from mexico , puebla . and definitely we will go back , even the manager Elvia talk with us and recommend us some places to visit in Chicago. Memo the server was awesome his service was so good and he offer us a margarita to try it . so delicious , Thanks guys for all Alfredo and Toño from Puebla Mex

My wife and I have been eating at Su Casa (sporadically) for about 40 years. I was there recently, and it's just as I remembered it. The food is tasty and ample, the service is quick and friendly, and the prices are reasonable, especially for a place not far from Michigan Avenue.

Service was so-so and the food was terrible!! Margarita was amazing.... maybe if I had more of them first, the food would have been better?

The food at Su Casa was great but the service was terrible. The wait so add we’re having a party amongst themselves. There was a couple of some add that were kissing behind the bar. They were very unprofessional! The manager said they were e being trained! For what? Not waiting tables.

I was in Chicago on a Medical Residency and had some free time on a Friday night. I had previously seen the Su Casa restaurant and decided to check it out. Surprisingly, they had lots of empty tables and I was welcomed warmly and seated quickly. The wait staff were all Spanish Speaking people exuding a personal presence that matched an authentic Mexican decor. The menu was simple but the choices were all seemingly delicious. I had a selection of tacos accompanied by Mexican beer (their selection of Mexican beers was extensive). Service was delightful, prompt and food service was quick. I left satisfied and pleasantly surprised at how good this place was. A hidden gem in the middle of downtown Chicago!

I came here for lunch on a Friday. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Their lunch specials were served until 3:00 p.m. Food was quite good and was an excellent value especially for Chicago. My lunch was only $12 and I got a lot of food with it. Overall a great place to go for Mexican food in Chicago.

We stopped in here our last night in Chicago with a Groupon for two margs, chips and guacamole and two entrees. We had had a huge lunch, so we just had the margaritas and guac, ordering entrees to take home for later. The guacamole was way too limey and watery. Our server was very nice and attentive. The entrees we took back to the hotel were okay, but not great. We ordered the carne asada and Combination Paraiso, which was tenderloin and shrimp. The carne asada was decent, but the tenderloin steak was cut with, not against the grain, and it was cooked medium so it was a waste of tenderloin steak in my opinion. The shrimp were okay, a little overcooked also. I didn't eat my rice and beans but my husband did and they did not sit well in his system to put it delicately. Since that was the only thing he ate that I didn't, we figured that was the culprit. Having eaten at Pizzeria Due (same owners) we expected this to be much better as the pizza was amazing!

Ordered through Amazon restaurant, not sure if this was why it was so late but it took more than hour for delivery. I know it's hard to keep delivery hot but this was pretty much completely cold and soggy, even when heated up there wasn't much flavor, won't be going back or ordering again.

The place is very cozy with colors and details that resemble mexican culture. The food was good! We have started with nachos with spicy sauce. After, we ordered the soup of the day (the small portion is really small), chicken burrito and beef taco salad. The service was correct. Today they didn't have the dessert we wanted (Tres Leches)! Good place to go for Mexican recepies!

Good food in good atmosphere. Wonderfull guacamole handmade Sound a little bit louder than pleasent. Price is correctafter dinner you can easy have a walk to enjoy the city I'll sure be back again Suggest not to park car nearby (park bill higher than dinner!!!!)

Went on Saturday evening and was immediately seated with chips and salsa (on the hot side) and ordered a margarita that was well made. Good basic Tex Mex food, good portions at a reasonable price.

The best salsa sauce I ever had!!! Wow! It was from the appetizer. Super enjoyed our food here, we had tacos.

This place has been here for a long time. Recently rediscovered it. The margaritas are terrific. They use fresh lemon and lime juice not sour mix. Many tequilas to choose from. A big plus - they also make guacamole to order - you can specify the ingredients. Fajitas was very good but portion is not large- might not be enough to share. Prices are reasonable. Atmosphere is pretty standard for this type of restaurant.

Dined at Su Casa Mexican Restaurant several nights back. I kept walking by the place and it had a quaint mom and pop vibe about it. Inside the restaurant still had a nice "feel" but the location was really chopped up and divided into a lot of little rooms and alcoves so there was no actual flow to the space. A waiter with a menu greeted me at the door to seat me, and then chips and salsa arrived at my table shortly thereafter. I ordered my standards: chicken chimichangas and a classic margarita. The good: The entree portion of chicken chimichangas was large and the flavor was decent. Less than stellar: Salsa had a lot of heat but was watery and had no real flavor. Margarita was only okay but quite expensive to only be served in a small rocks glass. Service was lacking. My recommendation: Take a photo - it captures the quaint of Su Casa without a price tag!

Good meal and lovely authentic setting, lots of combo options for those that can’t decide! Tortilla chips on arrival and good appetisers and drinks selection. Small but good

My cousin loves Mexican food and this place was close to our hotel so we went here one night. I had never had authentic Mexican food before and am a picky eater. We checked the menu and they had soft/hard tacos with beef or chicken with cheese. They tasted okay, to be honest I think making your own at home with Old El Paso taco mix has better flavour... My cousin asked for a side of guacamole which ended up being $5 and there were huge chunks of avocado in it. Our server was a grumpy older woman, not very friendly at all.. Also, we were in a little room on our own, with one other guy dining alone. It seemed he's friends with the owner and dines there often from what we heard with his conversation with the server. Being two blonde girls, of course this guy started talking to us, and we honestly had no interest in talking to him. He would not pick up on our disinterest in conversation and proceeded to pry on asking where we were from. We had to just ignore him and sit there awkwardly. My cousin was afraid to leave me alone to go to the bathroom (the restaurant was not very busy when we were there) Luckily not long after, he left. Also, we were glad we chose not to sit outside as the tables were approached by people trying to sell stuff/ask for money!

Ok I might be spoiled trying other fancier Mexican places which jades my perspective. Su Casa is good quality Mexican good without the gourmet fling. The drinks are strong, and the food is filling. Good salsa there with decent spice. Staff is quick and good is good. Prices are decent as well. If you had your family in Chicago and did not want to get killed like some other restaurants cost wise this is a good choice. Solid but not spectacular.

We did a groupon deal here the restaurant is very average so is the food and service the wife had beef fajitas and the meat was tough I had a mix of chicken burritos ground beef taco with rice and refried Belen's and corn which was fine the margaritas was nice but the small glass of draught beer at $5.75 plus tax was expensive

Sat at the bar, had chips, salsa, queso, friend had fajitas, I had tacos. All were good. Portions good. Got great margaritas and sampled some great tequilas from bartenders advice. I'd eat here again when in Chicago!

I had the burrito with chicken and there wasn’t a huge amount of chicken in my burrito. It was basically just lettuce, a bit of refried beans and a load of some green and orange sauce on top which didn’t have a whole lot of flavour. My family seemed to enjoy their meals a little more than me but it still want outstanding food by any stretch of the imagination. The server was pleasant enough. The atmosphere was dead on a Wednesday though, only half the tables were used and it felt a little strange in there. Toilets are also tiny!

The restaurant's ambiance is fun and authentic. The homemade guacamole is terrific. The food and drinks were average. My margarita was served in a beer glass. The waitress took nearly 20 minutes before taking our food order, and there were only a handful of patrons (Tuesday at 8pm). The service was terrible. Pricing was good. Not too expensive for the menu items and portion sizes. I can't say I would go out of my way to visit again, but if you happen to visit Su Casa, definitely order the tacos and fresh guac.

I have to say that this was THE worst Mexican food that I have ever eaten and that includes Taco Bell. The service was fine but the food. Wow. The chips were stale and the food was greasy and bland. I guess we should have known better when it was pretty empty at noon on a holiday weekend. I am ashamed that I am from Chicago but never stepped in here until now. The kids wanted Mexican and we were walking by and decided to stop in. Save your money and skip this place. Yikes.

We tried this place because it was close to our hotel, and we were looking for something different than our usual spots. It was okay. The margaritas were fresh, but very expensive. The food was nothing great, with my chicken tacos being incredibly dry.

Good reviews led us to Su Casa, several blocks from our hotel. Everything was fine, nothing was great. My husband ordered a house margarita - there was a long list, ranging in price from $10-$19. We assumed the house variety would be the least expensive. It was not, nor was it wonderful. I enjoyed a glass of mango sangria. The chips were very thick and so toasted they had a bit of a burnt flavor. The salsa was so spicy I couldn’t eat it, so we ordered “tableside” guacamole. The server brought a pre-made bowl of guacamole, stirred it a few times and left it at the table. Flavor was good, but definitely overpriced. We then shared a chicken and cheese quesadilla that was very short on the cheese. Although friendly, the service was slow.

Happy hour is only available at the counter. The food was partly cold and tasteless. The margarita selection is very large but completely overpriced.

We just got to our hotel and Su Casa was next to it. The service was 5 stars / Fastest service in a crowed restaurant / the Tacos were great - Don't buy the beef - / prices moderate.

Great ambiance, clean. We were greeted and were shown our seat quickly and were very pleased with the the food options available. The food was delicious and adequate sized! Definitely would be one of our favorite places if we lived in the area.

The Ranchero Burrito, salsa & chips and blush sangria was fabulous. Huge portions. Ambiance was warm and comfortable. Will be back.

We stopped in for 1 drink and ended up staying for 2! Victor was bartending and we had a great time visiting with him. Nice bar, my husband loved the margaritas. I had Victor make me something without tequila(not a fan), and whatever it was, it was delish. We also ended up ordering the queso fundido, and it is the best we have had! Definitely will be a stop on our next trip!!

Had a quick lunch here. Service was fast and friendly. The food was a bit on the bland side, but it wasn’t expensive.

Stumbled across this place whilst shopping and a couple coming out recommended the margaritas to us. We ended up eating too as the place was so welcoming and seemed authentic and we love Mexican food. We were complimented with tortilla chips and salsa. I enjoyed strawberry margaritas which were awesome. Highly recommend the chicken tacos too. Service was good. Lovely place.

Have visited here before but has been a while. Wow...we were very disappointed! After 15 minutes waiting to get drinks and my wife had to run down someone to get service..(a Tueaday night...not busy). Drinks came and had to ask to get chips/salsa...chips and salsa were tasteless....salsa had no seasoning at all..was almost like ground up tomatoes. Chips were thick and bland. Food came and it was the same...bland/tasteless and chicken on 2 dinners was very dry/over cooked. Even the pinto beans had no flavor? I asked for some extra cheese and hot sauce...cheese was from a can and the hot sauce was just like the basic....no flavor of heat. Not sure what happened here but wont be back. So many other great places to eat Mexican here. We wont be back! How can you screw up Mexican foods?

Su Casa bills itself as a Tex-Mex restaurant dating back to 1963. While the enchiladas were very good the issue I have is using Mexican hard cheese for the nachos instead of more traditional Jack and cheddar mix, which is more Tex-Mex. I told the manager and he said it is an issue with the owners (Pizzeria Due).

This place is authentic no doubt. The food is good but the prices are high for what your actually getting. I had fajitas which were good but I left hungry. If you get the fajitas eat a lot of chips or you will leave hungry also. This place is kinda of a take or leave it for me.

Had lunch at this restaurant but end up the worst meal ever. Although the plates ordered are basic and usual Mexican dishes but the quality was terrible and the Beef Burito is tasteless and comes with ground beef. Not enough cheese on top and no avocado and no Mexican sauce on the side . . . etc simply not good idea to try

Our daughter loves Mexican food, so when we found this right around the corner from our hotel, decided to walk over and give it a try. Service was a little slow to start, but once we ordered, food was out fairly quickly. Two adults and one child (5) split two plates and we were all full. Chips and salsa seemed really fresh on our visit. Salsa has a little kick to it, so wife and daughter didn't have much of it but I really enjoyed it. Soft tacos were on corn torillas which I typically don't like, but were very soft and quite tasty. If we had been in Chicago more than a few days, I know the rest of the family wanted to return for another meal.

Stopped here for a "snack" after our theater show. Place closes at midnight during the week and after 11 pm it started filling up and getting busy. I know why! Authentic food, homemade and fresh without costing a fortune. If you are wanting Mexican fare and find it ridiculous to spend $30 per plate, then stop here. From what I could see, the average meal ran about $12. Drinks are about $5 for beer and $9 for a margarita served in a highball glass. Wait staff was courteous enough, but be patient if it gets busy. You won't find linen table clothes or napkins here, so if that is what you need there are plenty of other pretentious places just around the corner!

The building resembles someone's home, perhaps that's the reasoning for the name of this restaurant. Food was very good and fairly priced. Seating was tight because of the size of the restaurant but that was not an issue for me.

I used to love this place, but on a return to Chicago after a couple of years the food was terrible. Everything was soggy and tasteless. It's as if they were trying to make enchiladas and tacos out of chicken soup, and mostly the broth at that. Food seems an afterthought to this regime as I had 2 different employees try to brag on their supposedly "larger" pours in their margaritas. That doesn't rate real high on my list of restaurant attributes two stars ...strictly for nostalgia Fix this place

Su Casa is warm and friendly, with Mexican basics and some extra nice touches on the new menu. Honestly my favorite Mexican restaurant in Chicago.

This is a great place with a lot of local flavor. Not pretentious, good services, great prices and good solid tex-mex style food. I had Steak Ranchero and it was delicious served with rice and refrigerated beans. The ranchero sauce was flavorful without being too spicy. My husband had fajitas with the usual fixings and my son really enjoyed the tamales. They have a small bar area which seemed to be popular with people stopping in after work.

I enjoyed dinner here recently while on a business trip to Chicago. From the friendly greeting at the door to the lovely server (who made fresh guacamole for us!), we had a wonderfully enjoyable meal. The signature margaritas are delicious and the food is tasty and satisfying.

The queso and Mexican mules were great! Although we just grabbed a quick bite and did not eat a full meal, the staff was excellent

Su Casa was near our hotel and we enjoyed one of our best Mexican dinners. Very colorful décor and design and helpful staff.

The food here is really good. Authentic Mexican food and the decor is wonderful! The people who own and work there are all super friendly. After living in California and now Oklahoma, I can tell you, when I say good Mexican food, I'm not kidding! We have never tried the bar drinks, so can't attest to those.

Whenever we are in Chicago we come here for a margarita. They are the BEST. Food is average. Atmosphere makes you feel like you are on vacation in Mexico! Cool one story building in the middle of all the tall buildings in Chicago

Here in Chicago for training. Went here for lunch when we first got here. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Food was great. Will be back again for sure. Love this place

Su Casa is Chicago's finest Mexican restaurant. Of course, I've never been to any other Mexican restaurant in Chicago. But I've never read a negative review by anyone else who has ever dined there. So if it's batting 1.000, it must be the best, right? Located at 49 East Ontario Street, adjacent to Pizzeria Due, in the River North neighborhood, it opened in 1963, 20 years after Ike Sewell opened his iconic Pizzeria Uno a block away at Ohio and Wabash and eight years after Sewell opened Pizzeria Due next door at Ontario and Wabash. Sewell had originally planned to open a Mexican restaurant in Chicago. But he started with pizza, then launched Su Casa, a colorful cantina serving up Mexican fare and live Mariachi music in an 1867 Carriage House. What'll you have, fajitas or tacos or burritos or enchiladas? My wife and I start with Su Casa's signature nachos with beef, a mountain of tortilla chips smothered with refried beans, melted jack cheese, fresh pico de gallo, avocado creme with beef barbacoa. For an entree, my wife always orders achiote and lime marinated snapper fillet served with elotes and rice. I usually choose three steak Chimichurri tacos, marinated grilled outer skirt steak seasoned with cilantro Chimichurri, pickled red onions and cotija cheese with rice and refried beans. Dessert is the tastiest treat of all. We share large portions of flan, home-made egg custard baked with caramelized syrup, and Arroz Con Leche, Su Casa's own rice pudding, an old-fashioned creamy dessert made from scratch with sugar, cinnamon and raisins. Mexican food, like Cajun, usually is too hot for our taste. But we always visit Su Casa at least once a month and we've never been disappointed. Judging by other reviews, it doesn't disappoint anyone else, either.

Very friendly and pretty good food. The salsa with chips is very hot but tasty, appetizer cheese with chorizo is awful, chicken fajitas were fantastic. Margarita was typical. This is good, casual dining if you are in the mood for more authentic mexican, not the fresh mex type.

Grear atmosphere, and authentic decor... Food came very fast and was tasty.. ! Nice margaritas and friendly staff

Excellent food, solid value. Many choices. Good for families and business dinners/lunches. Try the queso fundido and the fish tacos. (they are grilled, not fried)

We were greeted with a smile and seated promptly at a table inside. We waited a few minutes for menus, and then a few more minutes for drink orders. It's Saturday night and the place is packed. One of our dishes came out and had to wait another 10 minutes for the 2nd dish. The waitress was prompt with filling up water without asking. The food was good. We got quesadillas and one of the sampler plates. The chips were hot out of the oven but not flavorful. I would have loved a margarita but the prices are too high $10-15.

We were just passing by this place on the way to our hotel and ducked in to get some Mexican food since we had enough pizza and hotdogs by this point on our trip. Pleasantly surprised by the food quality that was quite good and authentic as we weren't sure what to expect. The service was awesome as we had non-stop service from our waiter. Margaritas were absolutely awesome as well! It had a nice Mexican restaurant atmosphere and we really enjoyed this place from start to finish. We even grabbed to go food for others in our party and they loved it too! Prices were quite reasonable for this part of town as well.

Came here with my mother and husband for a few margaritas before meeting more family. My mother had come here over 30 years ago with her parents. She asked the bartender about the history of the place and he, despite clearly not being old enough to have worked there 30 years ago, knew the history and how the place had changed. My mother enjoyed reminiscing with him. Excellent Service and Margaritas!

Authentic mexican food & vibes. Great tequila menu and super tasty house margaritas! The guaqamole was made fresh in front of us 😍 food was delicious, I recommend the tacos. The place looked like we were in Mexico!

Had basic fajitas and tacos but full of flavor and great salsa. While the decor appears dated it works and the food is what counts

What a great place. Delicious dishes with real Mexican tastes! Very friendly staff to give you a very relaxing evening so you can enjoy the Mexican food! O U T S T A N D I N G!!!

This restaurant is in an excellent location next to The James hotel. Eclectic decor. Very loud, but they was due to many people enjoying a night out. Got seated quickly on a Saturday night. Waitress promptly brought drinks and came back after a number of minutes to take our order. I had the Shrimp Camarones dinner. The food experience was very average. Chips and salsa were okay. Never saw the waitress again until she asked if we were ready for our check. I guess she assumed our food was fine and we did not need drink refills. Not a bad experience, but would not return with all of the other options in this area of Chicago.

Good location off the mag mile. I got the shrimp & steak fajita's. I've had better but for the price and being in a big city, it was OK. My husband got the steak with mole sauce which he did not enjoy. Total meal with tip was only $40, so good spot if you are looking for a cheap meal, but we will go elsewhere next time. It's a cute little space, and was not busy at all on a friday night at 6pm.
"A Very Cozy & Inviting Gem of a Restaurant"
I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Pepe & his manager Alva who graciously served me the Appetizer Sampler together with the delicious Rice Pudding. The Appetizer Sampler consisted of 4 Mini Tacos, 2 Nachos,2 Mini Chicken Chimichangas & 2 Jalepeno Peppers followed with an array of sauces such as Guacamole, Sour Cream, Pico de Gallo & Ranchero sauce with a generous basket of Nachos. These altogether were an explosion of flavors with different textures & spices. There was no need to add salt. These flavors stood out all by themselves. The Rice Pudding was creamy rice with cinnamon & raisins that reminded me of Christmas. The music added a relaxing ambiance to put guests in the proper set of mind to enjoy the food & décor. This is a very cozy restaurant like going home to grandmother's house. Does not get any better than this. If you are a tourist or Chicago resident you need to visit Su Casa because if you don't you don't know what you are missing.
