I love Brooklyn!!

By MrsCEO_Judy - #YourFavoriteTravelAgent |

This restaurant is a gem amongst the Caribbean community.  They have been consistent with the food.  And the decor is amazing.  They used the space well.  There's an upstairs and the backyard takes the cake.  You feel like you're on an island no where near New York.  So you must check it out during the summer! If you want high end Caribbean food and amazing drinks,  this is the place to be.

A Much Needed Addition

By 5daygetaway |

Suede's reputation was why I selected this venue for my fiancé birthday dinner celebration and I'm so glad I did. The service was seamless and attentive. The drinks were mixed to perfection. and the meal was amazing. Every dish from appetizers to dessert was a winner...and considering that I ordered almost the entire menu...well you get the idea. Usually Caribbean restaurants leave much to be desired in terms of service and consistency in the menu. I'm happy to report that Suede is the exception and much need addition in Brooklyn.

Celebration Dinner

By Miss Bonafide |

A family member recommended this spot for a delicious West Indian dinner...upon entrance the ladies were friendly and welcoming. The ambiance is cozy, relaxing & the right setting for a good old time. Appetizers were a good start but there weren't much vegetarian options except for Pizza, Roti, & Pasta so opted for side orders i.e. Mac cheese (delectable), Plantain (burnt) & Steamed veggies (overcooked & soggy). Everyone else enjoyed their Brown Stew Snapper, Sweet Chili Salmon & Shrimp Pasta etc. Also, the Passion Fruit juice was the perfect balance of sweet and tart.

Wrong order and stolen receipt

By Abigail F |

I just got in from a repast attended with friends at Seude. Before leaving sought to order extras to take home. Order was completed just in time before the rain came down. So off course just took package and left. Not until I got in was it brought to my attention that 2orders of the same although I ONLY ordered 1 was package and the fries but NO MANGO WINGS!!! While initially the receipt was placed on the exterior of bag, guessing it was removed once I went to the bathroom, as there's no trace of such. KNOW I WON'T BE A PATRON THERE any time soon!!!

Elegant modern great ambiance and great food restaurant.

I went with a group of five for a birthday celebration in Jan 2017.First and foremost I have never heard of a upscale Caribbean restaurant ,where you have to make reservations in Brooklyn, New York. The decor and lighting fixtures were really beautiful. The hostesses/ waiters were young, and personable. The music made you want to get out of your seat and shake your groove thing. The food we all ordered was Jerk salmon, wild rice and mixed vegetables Everything we consumed was perfectly seasoned and, cooked to perfection. Our appetizers jerk shrimp, jerk wings and seasoned corn was just as good.My only problem was they will not seat your party until everyone in your party is in the restaurant. My friend the birthday girl was standing in some very beautiful ,but uncomfortable high heels waiting for the entire party. The waiter kept bumping my pocketbook and coat on my chair.I think there should be more space between tables, but this would not be cost effective for the establishment. The place was packed on a Thursday night. The location is not the easiest to get to without a GPS and I live in Brooklyn North.Would I revisit, and would I recommend this restaurant ?Yes!

St. Lucia meets the rest of the Caribbean

By wakeelie |

I thought Suede was a Jamaican restaurant. At least, that's what I was told. Instead, it was influenced by St. Lucia. I like it. Food was good. Atmosphere was very nice-dim lights and great ambiance. Strong drinks and great appetizers and the entrees were thoughtfully done to include the appropriate fusion. I'd go back and I will.

Excellent

This is authentic Caribbean food. You can either dine inside or out doors. The atmosphere is very nice and the service is great.

Poor service

By Straighttalkros |

My daughter and I went today Saturday morning at 1115 am,just a few moments after opening. There were only 2 tables with guests and service was unnecessarily slow. The waitress took her time taking our order . I ordered hot tea that was eventually served after my meal and the waitresses compensated by not charging me for it. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived so there was no need for the slow service. The waitress, although pleasant, did not immediately ask if we needed anything else. I had to hunt her Down for ketchup. My daughter and I both ordered the salmon crab omelet. I had the cornbread. Jiffy taste better and the omelet was just ok ,nothing exceptional. The prices were reasonable. I always try to patronize these local establishments and I am very concerned with service. The poor rating is based mostly on service.

MUSIC

By tigress4350 |

This is my 5th time going to Suede Restaurant, the ambience is beautiful, my seats were upstairs dining area, Somehow we could not hear the music, I suggest that you install speaker in the upstairs dinning are, we will enjoy the dinner much better, LOVE SUEDE,

Beautiful Restaurant!!! Food not so much!

By Swamee |

The decor and the ambience of this restaurant is to die for! I can't wait for the outdoor cabanas in the summer. However, there's a bit too much salt in the food and the cuisine is a little bit off the mark of authenticity... But all in all it's a great pic for atmosphere. If you're going on a nice date this is a good go to place... A bit noisy but it will do the trick... wink. A nice trendy spot for the community and the neighborhood... Great job!

Suede is Smooth

By T'nia D |

The atmospere is enchangting, in my opinon. Its dimly lit for a more relaxed and even romantic setting with great decor, delicious food, fantastic drinks and friendly yet professional staff. Music is good & i have a fab timewhen i go. So go with good company :) I love the variety of seating arrangements and what i like even more than that is during the summer time they open up a outdoor eating/lounge area that is equally suiting. Seating is limited, there is quite a wait list for reservations (at least 30-45 mins) but honestly it really is worth it. I promise you will enjoy this little jewel.

Great vegan options

By MrsBlackson |

There’s nothing bad I can ever say about Suede Great food Great music Great drinks Great pricing The vegan options are tasty ... try the okra with calamari

My opinion

By Nicole E |

Overpriced. Limited menu, no dessert.Fritters, no bueno. Yhe area has little to no parking. Backyard/outsid area nice.

Just Okay

By Ms Tiesha |

Visited recently with friends the place was empty since it was fairly early. We were seated inside the decor is beautiful and our waitress was friendly and the tables are small. I wanted the rum and raisin waffle with fried chicken but it wasn’t available. What a bummer as I was looking forward to it. My friend ordered shrimp and grits, and the grits was hard, My second option which was oxtail was okay I’ve had better. The food took forever to come out I was on a time crunch and even asked for it in a Togo box when our waitress assured me that it was coming out now. I wouldn’t return I gave them 3 stars for the ambiance and our waitress but food needs to come out in a timely manner.

A little gem

By MarcieR |

A fleeting visit to Brooklyn and a recommendation by family. Great crowd and will book next time. Had the oxtail for dinner.. Recommend it wholeheartedly. However the cocktails win it for me.. great cosmopolitan!

Caribbean delight

By GTJa |

Ambiance was great. First visit with a few friends from out of town for dinner. Service was great and the food was definitely from another Caribbean country. The food was tasty.

Caribbean Vibe

By Brandon J |

Overall the night was satisfactory. We didn't wait too long for a table. The staff are attentive. I loved the cool setting of the place and the touch of Caribbean vibe in the atmosphere. I had goat roti which was delicious and spicy and couldn't get enough of their desert.

DISAPPOINTED TO SEE A BUSINESS THROW OUT FOOD IN THE TRASH THAN HAVE ME TAKE IT HOME AFTER PAYING FOR IT😒😒

By LAlex4040 |

So I’m utterly disappointed and turned off from this establishment and doubt I’ll spend my money here again. I’ve supported them from the first day of opening. They had an Appreciation Day for their customers to dine in. Upon finishing my meal, I’m told you’re not allowed to take your leftovers which is absurd to me cause I’m paying for the food. I don’t ever finish a meal when I go out to eat cause I’m a light eater. So I see the manager and get his attention. He acts like he’s too busy to address me for a single container to go. I ask 2 waiters for a container but to no avail as I was given the same response. If I’m paying for the meal and have already eaten from it, I should be allowed to take my leftovers instead of them just throwing it in the trash. After waiting over 15 minutes for a to go container, I just left everything at the bar. So they are really just going to throw out all this food for no reason at all. I guess I will find other Black businesses to support cause Suede isn’t it anymore . PURE WICKEDNESS to deliberately throw good food in the trash 😒😒😒😒😒.

Poorly Managed

By Curtis W |

It's taken me a while to write this because I rely didn't want to write a negative review. After lots of hand wringing., I decided to go forth with it. So here goes. My wife made online reservations for 10 guest for dinner to help her celebrate her birthday. She received confirmation and we thought all was well as would any normal person. May I also add that we live in Suffolk county NY and most of her friends were also from Suffolk and Nassau county Y while the restaurant is in Brooklyn. Which for those who may not be familiar is nearly a 2 drive one way. But I digress. We arrive at the restaurant and was told that they did not have a confirmation of our reservation, but could accommodate 8. We asked for the manager and was told that there was nothing they could do. So as not to cause a scene 2 of her HS friends decided they would leave. This left my wife very disappointed and frustrated. So, we are finally seated beside a table that was set up for, you guessed it 10 guest. I inquired about the table and was told it was for a group of 10 that would soon be arriving. Needless to say no one ever showed up for that table because it was our table!!! At no time did the manager ever offer anything as an apology, no appetizer or drink for the table on the house. You also may I have noticed I never mentioned the food, well that's because it was disappointing, very disappointing. It may have been better if the the staff was a bit more accommodating and not so rude. You live and learn, you can also trust that I or no one in our party will ever return there...

Caribbean with just enough twist

By Dorota M |

Nice ambience, friendly staff, warm atmosphere and above, AMAZING food. The wings and grilled shrimp appetizers were incredible, but the oxtails took the cake. The meat melted in my mouth and served with the sauce, which complemented the beans and rice, was just perfect. I didn't think it could get any better until I got my order of the cheesecake. All in all, just an awesome and immersive Caribbean experience in Brooklyn. We can't wait to go back.

They should be closed

By Geneva C |

My aunt and I decided to have brunch at Suede on Saturday. We were near by and hungry. My family and I have patronized this business for quite sometime. When we walked in we realized the furniture was pretty much falling apart. We mentioned to the manager how bad the establishment looked. That's normally a sign for me to run. I do not like eating anywhere if the furniture or the business sign is worn or torn. That's an immediate pet peeve of mines. If you don't care about the visual of your establishment why would the people work their care? We sat down the waitress was not so pleasant. The food came out my aunt's yucca mash was cold. We waited for the waitress to come back to our table and she stated she can let the kitchen microwave the side ! That was an immediate no for my aunt! Microwave, really! We don't even own microwaves in our homes.Nor, use them at home. Furthermore, allow a business to reheat food in a microwave. Turn off #2. We ask to speak to the manager, she came after 10 minutes of waiting and said she can take of money off the side ! Turn off again . How do you take off money off of a side that part of a meal? The drink was also terrible! They had a menu for drinks with no bartender. The experience was terrible . I dm the business on Ig and the person who never stated who they were nor did they offer an apology. They offered me a gift card . I kindly, told them to donate it. My experience was not to receive anything for free. It was simply to me let them know how bad they are doing and it's unacceptable. I will never eat here again and will make sure i spread the word on how unprofessional and raggedy this place is now! The food didn't even taste the same . I'm sure the chef left this place too!

1st time...last time

By Rogelio S |

Simply put, it was not a good 1st impression at this place. Long wait to order, dirty glasses and silverware and I had 3 long strands of hair in my eggs for brunch. The "manager " was somewhat sorry for what happened but made sure not to do anything to fix it. Nice setting but I will make sure not to be back. And I recommend everyone to stay away as well.

Awesome Ambience!

By Blackbeauty75 |

I'm definitely going back there again. This place is beautiful and I ate everything. They gave a free appetizer, entree (selected by the rest), and small cake for the birthday person. Really nice. My friend had the oxtail and rice n peas. I had the beef which was so tender. The chicken wings were really good.

Not worth the hype

By AnjeraMari |

Great ambiance, good spot to go with friends or on a date! Food looked pretty but not as flavorful as expected for a Jamaican resturant. I also feel they were a bit overpriced! Our server Francisco was a great server!

Caribbean Twist

By Feitond |

Sunday Brunch with my family, it was crowded, but the manager was very accommodating. A table for 4 was hard to come by, but he found us a table. The server was great. The food was fantastic. An original take on Chicken Fingers; The Akee and Saltfish was off the chart great; The Chicken and waffle with rum raisin was very special with a rum syrup. Every dish was delish!!!! I am making reservation for my next Sunday Brunch there. The manager stated that reservation can be filled by the Friday. The decor and atmosphere are beautiful. I highly recommend the place. Enjoy your Brunch!

Monthly Ladies Dinner

By Diana W |

Let me start by saying this, I have been going to Suede from inception. The food, service and restaurant etiquette was amazing. Some of the owners (Jason- I believe was the young man’s name) would come over and make sure everything is great and everyone is satisfied, so when it was my turn to pick a restaurant for our monthly girls dinner, I didn’t hesitate to make them my first choice. Boy was I in for a rude awakening literally! We got there and was seated promptly. The waitress did not have any enthusiasm about the menu or catering to us. (Which is fine, since I understand everyone has an off day) we ordered drinks and appetizers and felt rushed in ordering our entrees, but took no offense and did so. Fast forward to to end, our plates and half filled drinks were removed promptly without any questions and we were handed the bill. Confused, my friends and I were aghast and looked at each other in disbelief over the boldness that was occurring in front of our eyes. So we then asked if there was a dessert menu and she blurted out one item, so we then asked for another round of drinks and was told she will check with her manager, upon her return, she said it was not possible and we are welcome to sit at the bar. Take into consideration, this is less than two hours after being seated. I went and had a chat with the manager and was told the very same thing. So I think what is happening is that they have become popular and is no longer interested in making sure customers are well taken care of, they are just interested in getting paid and kicking you out right after. There was a couple sitting next to us that was there for a very long time and no one asked them to leave, but I guess they needed the table for a larger party, so they pick and choose whom to be rude to, so they will leave quickly. FOOD: was average and not what I remembered. I think they are rushing the food and service. DRINKS: were great per usual. Let’s just say, I will not be going back there ever. Don’t waste your time, money or energy on this place.

I loved the food and service was great!

By imagine_Juli |

I heard of this place multiple time from friends. By the final time I heard it given a mention it had only been open a few months. Well one day I went with my fiancé for a lunch date since the youngin' was at school. I went online to check their menu and it was basically Caribbean food, so I was all for it since it's my favorite cuisine. While online I saw that there was an option to make a reservation so I did for a Thursday at 2pm. When we got there we were greeted instantly, Seconds upon sitting we got ordered drinks and food. Service was decent being that it was a new place but the gentleman that took care of us did continuously check on us and made sure our drinks were satisfactory. I ordered the oxtail with rice and peas and the Mr. ordered the creole pasta with chicken which he loved. The food was so good. Nothing was disappointing, drinks was also good - nice and strong. My only gripe was the lack in variety of drinks. Looking behind the bar it look like 100 bottles of liquor but yet on the menu (at the time) there was only 7 drinks if your lucky. Portions are a little small but I hope that change with time. I went back in 2015 when they first opened. I visited maybe all of 3 times, all 3 visits the food came out surprisingly great. Their location next to some auto yard/car repair lookin place threw me off but I gave it a shot anyway and I'm glad I did. Interior inside did not match the atmosphere inside which made me think this was a diamond in the rough. I plan to patron there again this year since by the looks of it that there are under the umbrella of new management, and seem to have added new drinks and food. I checked what they are serving their website, and it look like good additions to their menu. I cant wait to give it a try. I also tried the jerk salmon which was heaven. I encourage people to give this place a try. Its a (pleasant) far cry from your average run of the mill restaurant that sling rice and peas, with some curry goat. No disappointments here.

Great food

Awesome Caribbean food. I tried it for the first time this weekend and definitely will be going back soon.

Great spot in Brooklyn

By D C |

This was our first time to suede. We visited there on a Friday between 5pm&6pm, seating was not a problem. The ambiance was great and service was professional and courteous. In a time when some restaurants don't even offer bottled water they offer Voss bottled water which was great. Our food came promptly and it was delicious. We were both filled after our main course and it didn't cost much. We would definitely recommend Suede and revisit in the near future.

Food is Good, Customer Service need improvement

By r0sey84 |

There is a strict dress code to maintain the aesthetics of this location however if you wish to appear as a high end restaurant you need to train your waiter and waitresses on how to properly serve. 1. if a group (in this case 4) places an order for appetizers, don't bring just one order and than bring the remaining minutes later. 2. The same goes for the main course. Wait until all of the orders are ready and bring it out. Don't just bring some and minutes later bring the rest. 3.If there is something on the menu that is not available you should tell the patrons and offer them a substitute. Don't wait until they receive the food and when they question the missing item (which was replaced with regular French fries) say "oh yeah they need to update the menu because that's no longer available" and then offer a substitute side after we already waited too damn long for the food we already received. Food here is tasty however it take more than just good food to make the patron experience 5 Stars. If all I wanted was just good West Indian food I would go somewhere in Flatbush and buy it and it would be much cheaper.

Worst Customer Service

By LatinoHeat06 |

PLEASE READ THE REVIEWS ON YELP. If there was a negative 5 star review I'd choose it. I came here on 02-28-16 for a friend's birthday. Reservation time was 5pm and we got there at 5:15pm. The manager told us he gave up our table to a party who had no reservation. NO RESERVATION. Not once did the restaurant mention their grace period policy. We were a party of TWELVE that got screwed by this restaurant. Ironically there was another birthday party of 10 behind us that also came 15 minutes late. Their table was ALSO given up to a party with no reservation. This restaurant has no value for customer service. PLEASE READ THE REVIEWS ON YELP . You'll see I'm not the only one who had a bad experience at this place. Seems like it's a hit or miss whether you get in or not. We ended up going to Amarachi's which was a great upscale venue with great food. Check it out.

Sued on The People's Court and acting Crazy!!

By nothinbutthetruth1 |

Just watched an episode of "The Peoples Court" where the judgement was against this restaurant. During the interview at the end the Manager says she is going to refund the person who originally paid for the gift card and not the Plaintiff. Not only was your restaurant sued but your on TV acting crazy!!! Don't waste your money here customer service is obviously not good.

I attended a graduation party for my niece !

By Linda C |

I attended a graduation party of 16,They must not be equipped to handle big parties because we had a confirmed reservation but ran a little late which was communicated prior to scheduled time, They ended up giving away our reserved section upstairs & said that they would only be able to accommodate one large table ( which left us with 6 people that still needed to be seated) We asked for a table to be placed in the empty space behind us & was told no. We then asked if the remaining of our guests could be seated at the booth next to our table & was also told no.After our group was split up at table far apart, several of us wanted to order salmon dishes to which we was told that they were out of salmon.(only to find out later that the other guests at the other table were able to order salmon) Majority of us settled for ordering other dishes( oxtails or Rum raisin waffles) Not one of us received our meals at the same time. It was a few minutes between most of our servings. The oxtails were HORRIBLE & full of FAT/BONES & the rice was under cooked. My nephews Mac n cheese was cold & hard as a brick. It was as if it was cooked the previous night & reheated then placed under heat lamps this day. My son in law said that his rum raise chicken in waffle was not that great either. He said that the fried chicken was not crunchy & seemed to be left sitting in grease under heat lamps as well. The waffles were soft & rubber like & he was disappointed because this was just a thrown together dish- the raisins werent even cooked into the waffles & they used cheap thin syrup, (He a chef) Our appetizers came out after the main dishes & 3 sides of sweet plantain never made it out to our table. The server never came back to check in or refill our glasses. We individually asked multiple times to speak to a manager & no one ever came to speak with us. This was just an all around bad experience dining here. I would never take a doggy bag back home to my dog from here. My daughter just left her oxtails she did not even want to try a second dish in its place. You should never tell customers that you ran out of any thing, You should send someone out on a emergency store run if you have to! ! You are supposed to be as accommodating as possible to the customers. Your customers should never leave your restaurant so unhappy that they immediately go to your competitors to dine!!! I will visit this UNPROFESSIONAL establishment again !!!!!!!!

Man the promoters and IG....smdh

By Roxanne E |

So let me just say this first, you will not see photos of the meal by me because that area has clearly been taken care of by the promoters and Social Media’s... So my husband and I went on a Saturday for brunch. We actually got to Suede 10 minutes after the open time but they weren’t open yet.,.. hmmm lol... so a few minutes later... 5/6 I think we were able to enter along with other customers who was waiting before us. The greeting set up was interesting( not that it was that important but interesting). We order our beverages first. Our waitress told us certain juices weren’t ready as well as certain SIDE dishes lol (can you believe that). Ok so we went with it. I can’t even remember what drink my husband asked for but they didn’t have it ready. We went through quite a few request than I decided to ask if they make pineapple ginger juice and yes ! My George I think they got it!!! Please excuse a lot of laughter you will see on in my comment but you would have to be there to believe it. We order our meals and for the 4th time we had to be told it’s not ready but this time I think our main waitress must have felt embarrassed to tell us herself that a guy had to come and deliver the message. I couldn’t control my laughter at this point because it was embarrassing, disappointing and finally frustrating. So about the meals- all meals seems to be garnished with an orchid or some sort of flower.... If you think about ordering the oxtail... don’t. I had better at Golden Crust and Moments Shrimp and grits- grits was swimming in gravy and not much flavor at that BBQ Chicken- taste like stew chicken Our drinks was water down The reason why we went to Suede was mainly because the promotion on the radio and social media had us. We didn’t stay that long. I wanted to get out ASAP. Picture and filters can make anything look great. I give this restaurant 2 1/2stars only because of the promotion and the decor but nothing else more. So long as they have both this restaurant will has customers coming until they experience it for themselves. The customer service is basic for a beautiful place. Not much to say there but that is still bad as well in my opinion My advice for management and the team is please start preparations of drinks and dishes before you open. Not while opening. What’s the point of owning a Restaurant....

Dinner

By GWM |

Very nice and relaxed atmosphere for dining or just having drinks with Caribbean music playing in the background at just the right volume. Try the macaroni pie and the steamed fish. They were good. We also went for Sunday brunch and it was okay. It was very busy both times. The service could be better.

Food was great!

By Alison J |

Great family atmosphere. Food was great. Try the sampler for appetizer. It's too hard to choose just one.

Consistently Delicious Food @ "Suede" in Brooklyn, NY

By Rokesly |

Visited - Wednesday, August 22, 2018 I think it’s time I give some positive feedback on one of my favorite Caribbean restaurants “Suede”. I have visited several times for large and small group events over the years and most importantly the food has been consistently excellent. I particularly like the friendly staff who are not only pleasant but deliver prompt service. I just took my uncle there who’s visiting from the islands and he gave the restaurant his thumbs-up! He’s a very picky eater so I was extremely happy the restaurant met his approval! We both had the oxtail entrée (rice & peas and vegetables) with sorrel soft drinks followed by ice cream desserts. The vibe and ambiance is welcoming and relaxed – we ate indoors on the lower level and not in the outside area that is usually open during the warm months. Reservations are encouraged – (especially on weekends) – we went as walk-ins during the week and had no problems. I did call ahead just to make sure we could get a table. Menu prices are appropriate and dishes are a nice serving size. I highly recommend “Suede” if you want to sample “good Caribbean food!”.

Great Food!

By K R |

Amazing food. However, if you go on the weekend at night you might run into really slow service. Having said this, it's worth the wait.

I love Suede

By Starbornkaly |

I wish I knew about Suede earlier. The food is so flavorful. Its amazing The ambiance is great. I loved the music choices. Since coming here in February, I've come back 2 more times. I loved everything I got. It's that great. I will be going back

Sunday Brunch...

By luvapooh |

This place...Suede of Brooklyn, is OVERrated and OVERpriced. Went there for brunch for 2. We were informed by the bartender that there were no brunch specials. We spent $85 for cold mango chicken wings, 4 shrimps and thick grits and 2 drinks (which were removed before we finished drinking). They did replace the drinks. Upon leaving we spoke to the "host" and asked him about the brunch special and he told us that they have unlimited mimosas. I told him he should let his staff know about special because the bartender had no idea. He apologized and didn't offer anything else. It’s going to be a while before I return...if I return.

Daughter's Sweet 16 Dinner

By flemingdeborah43 |

I am so incredible please with this restaurant. The servers was great, food was amazing and the hospitality was truly a blessed experience. Everyone that helped put this dinner together for my daughter. I must say it was a beautiful and amazing experience. My family that attended was pleased with the dinner arrangement and the price was reasonable. First time there and it was just a beautiful experience. Thank u so much Suede for making my 16th year old daughter a happy person on this beautiful night. Amazing!

Skip It

By NPE Travels |

Don’t do it to yourself. Skip it! The food came out lukewarm. My friend’s grits did not look or taste fresh. My chicken and waffles was lacking so much flavor. The chicken was tasteless. They did not have champagne for mimosas (we were there for brunch!). They also ran out of utensils so two of us were given plastic utensils.

Caribbean Social

By Nicole E |

This location is owned by Suede. Decor beautiful. Restaurant very cold. Food took over an hour to be served. 1/3 of the menu was unavailable. Will not be returning. Would not recommend. Food n drinks were ok.

Cool brunch on a Sunday morning

By jerrybacchus |

I got this invite by my Brooklyn friend who said good things about this Jamaican restaurant. The atmosphere was really super cool for a Sunday morning. Both of us had the oxtail with rice and sweet plantains. It surely lived up to the hype. The cocktails were Caribbean in taste and name. The servers were super cool too. Definitely deserves a return trip.

Excellent service

By Brooklyn Girl 718 |

First of all I am sooo happy I was able to support a BOB that was great across the board. - great service: our waiters were very patient, friendly, and attentive. - the food was excellent.... a little pricy but tasty. I had the jerk shrimp, Mac n cheese, and corn. - the restaurant itself is beautiful and very clean and well maintained. - the alcohol was PERFECT... all of the cocktails are delicious. Overall we had a great experience!

Bad Customer Service!!!

By Osian |

BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! My cousin and I came to this spot cause I had heard it was a decent Caribbean spot. We were seated by the staff in one area, and then a man, I'm guessing was the manager (a very tall guy), told us we needed to get up and move. He explained it was to accommodate larger parties. So we moved to another area he indicated. Then as we are getting settled in the new area and conversing, one of us set a bag from another restaurant on the table. We were of course going to move it. But all of a sudden, that same manager comes over with menus and then tells us to put the bag away! I mean, I understand the intention, but that was rude. It was a medium sized bag that we just placed on the table cause we were just moved to that area. I was really shocked by this. I heard the service was not the greatest at this place, but I didn't think it would be that bad. There was practically no food left when we showed up. No chicken, no beef, no fish. It was like 9:30pm I can however vouch and say, the waitress who served us was lovely. So, that one star is just for her.

Birthday dinner was excellent

Customer service was great ( I dig customer service). We enjoyed our food. The flavors are finger lickin. I'll be back.

Sister property- Caribbean Social is the new place to be

By QueenBraham |

I had an absolutely amazing time at Caribbean Social which is on Flatbush Ave in Brooklyn NY. It is a sister property to Suede and is absolutely amazing!!!!! The decor, the architecture, and the designs throughout are impeccable. The service is always friendly and readily available and the atmosphere is one most desired. Truly good vibes everywhere. The attire is more sexy casual to dressy. Not really a shirt and sneakers spot. The music is always amazing and of island decent. Its the perfect mid range Caribbean restaurant. There is a beautiful seating/dining area downstairs and a lounge and additional bar upstairs for dancing and enjoying afterwards. I have been 3 times so far and plan to return. The last time I was there I brought a party of 10. I recommend making reservations if there are more than 4 of you as I did. We still talk about that night and carried on to the early hours of the morning. The food reminded me of my Jamaican roots and heritage. I felt right at home:) Its a must try really. Tell them LaToya sent you. xo

Simply amazing....hidden gem

By bevsensualparty |

I love finding hidden gems in the neighborhood. This restaurant can hold its own against any 5 star establishment. Our server Shayla, set the pace for our expectations. She made recommendations for drinks as well as the meals. We did have one disappointment, no oxtail pizza was available that evening. However the entrees of fried whole snapper and jerk salmon more than made up for the missed appetizer. I've been ordering whole snapper for as long as I can remember and have never have it served bone less with the head and tail still attached. Hopefully the picture I took captured the artistry that was the meal. Fried plantain chips in the middle of the display. It was Almost too exquisite to eat.....I did say almost. The atmosphere was inviting for couples, friends night out or groups. Upon leaving we noticed an outdoor area, that also looks inviting to eat dinner on a clear summer night. Everything was top notch, I highly recommend this gem and hope to return before leaving Brooklyn to partake in the oxtail pizza.

Caribbean Brunch

Very modern atmosphere. Food and service was great, we had the chicken and waffle and the socu shrimps, they came super fast! The only thing that I would say is that the music it's a little bit to loud, but I suggest you to give it a try it's fun and they had live music too

good

went there for the first time and the interior really caught my attention. Ordered take out: pumpkin callaloo soup, treasure island sampler, curry shrimp, and 4 cheese mac and cheese. Everyone in the party enjoyed the food.

2nd Time Around

By QueenieD69 |

I first visited this restaurant for my birthday dinner 2 years ago and swore I would never return. I was extremely disappointed with my meal and so were my quests. The waiter barely attended to us and when needed we could not locate him. In June some friends and I went on the Suede Brunch Cruise and the meal in the VIP section was actually a bit impressive considering my last visit. So recently, a friend and I dined here on a Friday nite and I was very pleased with my meal (him, not so much)! Our server came by a few times to check on us including other staff. I was pleased with my visit and would visit again

Casual date night

The service was amazing from beginning to end. We were seated in the outdoor garden, and i must say everything about the design of the restaurant speaks upscale. The service was fast before we were half way through our drinks we received our entree. I enjoyed the live dj, indoor had its own vibe and so did outdoor i definitely would return and would recommend to people.

Good food, slow service

By Coble78 |

Make a reservation in advance. We came in on a saturday night for a 7pm reservation. We were eating dinner someplace else but came here for appetizers and drinks. We got there about 30 mins early but they seated us. The service is slooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwww. Did I mention the service is slow? I have to give credit to one guy who I perceive to be the manager or maybe just the beverage manager. He asked if anyone had came to the table and they had but said they'd be back. It had been about 10 minutes and they were still at another table. He quickly took our drink orders in the interim and brought them out. Our first server ended up asking someone else to take our order and she quickly did. The issue came when the second waitress tried to combine the order with the drink order. 20 minutes later no food and all we ordered was appetizers. She apologized and said she just found out the order never got submitted to the kitchen but that they were working on it. They gave us two drinks on the house and the food came out shortly after. We had the oxtail pizza, appetizer sampler, garlic mash yam, mac & cheese, chicken tacos and salmon cakes. Everything was stellar with the exception of the salmon cakes. My friend thought they were just okay. For drinks we had the original rum punch which was spot on. Sometimes I find them to be too sugary or too strong. It's evident they use fresh juices and know what their doing. I just made a reservation for next week for dinner, I'll be sure to update this review afterwards.

Simply The Best

By FMS11238 |

I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. The food is simply the best Caribbean cuisine that you can find unless you are actually in the Caribbean. The environment is beautiful and it's family friendly. It's a great location for birthday celebrations, date night, or hanging with friends. Not to mention its reasonably priced. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Date night

By Justme_E |

My husband and I decided to go to Suede for Our Monday date night. We arrived at 6pm (definitely arrive before 6:30pm, that's when the rush starts.) We didn't have reservation so I would say the wait for a table was fairly reasonable BUT once again, we arrived at 6pm. After 6pm there was a long line inside and outside the waiting area. Drinks are all set at $12.50 (ok, nothing great if you ask me) service was a bit slow for my liking. We had Mango sticky wings as an appetizer, entrees- I had the fried chicken with rum raisin waffles (not impressed) , my husband had Seafood Roti (which he loved!!) Over all the ambience was relaxing, food was ok for me, great for my husband.

Bad

When to suede for the second time for my daughters birthday on February 5 Superbowl nights the food was really bad not cook right and the price was so crazy wouldn't go there every again felt like they robbed me without a gun

Be ready for a little bit of spiciness

By REGOR6649 |

Found it a fine place to eat even though it stuttered a little bit in greeting and seating us. Once we got seated, the ride was smooth. The food is excellent and with my wife being a Vegan, she had many selections. My jerk chicken was very good although I had challenges with its spiciness...that's my problem. Excellent atmosphere in a key part of Brooklyn. I believe it is better known by the residents, than tourist like we were. Found service to be ok...not great, not bad, just sort of matter of fact. The restaurant has to decide where they want to play the game in terms of its customer service.

Comfortable and Classy

By SisterSage718 |

First visit, was very impressed by the interior design. I went at opening (4 p.m.) and there were already guests waiting outside; within an hour the place was full and upon leaving there was a line of guests waiting for tables. Had mango bbq wings for appetizer, curry chicken and side order of plaintains, all delicious. My only complaint is that I thought our table was served out of sequence, we waited a little long for our food to arrive. Will definitely return.

Service

By Charmaine R |

This is my 4th time to suede and 2 out of the 4 was terrible, i guess u can only get good service when they are empty sad, the food is overpriced, the service is poor and the manager was very arrogant will not be going back there ever

Foodtastic!

By GlobalFoodie92 |

The food was amazing, I was in a group of four people. We all had different dishes, all which I can say were quite tasty. I personally enjoyed the platter (with the fish cakes, shrimp, wings and corn). The chicken soup was delightful. Everything was soo good, definitely wasn’t disappointed in the food. One thing I must say is that the attention to detail should be there, we had a reservation but still had to wait about 15-20mins to be seated. Usually the table should have been ready. It seemed that the staff on shift needed help, very much understaffed. Took long to get service. Nonetheless on my next holiday to New York, I will be coming to Suede.

Disappointed and we went just for Drinks...

By ByondBrooklyn88 |

Beautiful interior... Atmosphere was good... But customer service not so great ... 10mins to seat us in a half empty restaurant... Plus they sat us by a large group with 4+ little children making noise and running around... I ordered a signature drink and they didn't have the main liquor needed for it (Hennessy)... My Mac and Cheese was nothing spectacular and the jerk shrimp skewers my friend order were 3 shrimp baby shrimps each held by a toothpick like skewer... I heard so many great things ... I was truly disappointed ...
