All I can say is that every time I go to NYC, I have to go to SurgarCane. The food is absolutely delicious!

My girlfriend an I went here for dinner and drinks before heading to a basketball game at Barclays. A small spot in the middle of the block tucked away in a quaint corner. We had a 6pm reservation but was seated early when we arrived. Delicious food and drinks. Good choices from jerk shrimp to oxtail. Sides are not included but cost extra. Not too expensive. Remember to make a reservation because they fill up quickly. Friendly staff.

Was craving roti and stopped here on a Tuesday night. It was jam packed, yet the service was on point. Never have I ever had chicken roti of this caliber. Right amount of spice, meat, melt in your mouth tender, roti skin absolutely delectable. With a side order of superb macaroni pie, and a glass of white sangria ...lawd! a meal for a queen, or king, as the case may be. The varied menu also includes seafood and succulent oxtails. If you are in the area stop in, you won't be disappointed.

If you love Caribbean inspired food ... look no further ... the appetizers like the jerked chicken tacos and the sugarcane shrimp are what the young folks call ...”life”. If you are from the Caribbean it would run your grandmother’s cooking a not too distant second !!!

My kids and I visiting from the Uk met with a friend ath this restuarant on Sat. Too crammed with the bar struggling to be a part of the dining area. Waiting area for a table is nil unless you can justle in for a seat at the bar but be aware the kids cannot sit there. Service was ok. The Pina colada was more of a milky syrup with pineapple stuck on the glass. The potato salad and something shrimp which 2 of our party shared ended in a total of around 8 visits to the bathroom. Overall, based on regular visits to a variety of restuarants incl very chic in the UK and the US, this place has potential but not 100% ready in my opinion and of course judging by the aftermath my family endured...food poisoning is NOT an option!! Overrated and not worth the prices...JOKERS!!

I visited this restaurant with my husband to celebrate our 28th Wedding Anniversary. It was a wonderful experience. At 6 PM the place was crowded but we were seated immediately. It was the last day of restaurant week so I was able to have three courses for $25. I had samosas for the appetizer which I shared with my husband. Then came my entree: the largest and most delicious vegetarian roti I have ever had and that includes ones i have eaten in Trinidad. It was seasoned perfectly. I had to take half of it home. My husband had salmon from the regular menu with a side of callaloo and a side of rice and peas. It was from the regular menu. The entrees include two side dishes. The callaloo was delicious and the portions were more than generous. For dessert I have the cocoanut bread pudding which was so delicious that I took most of it home to enjoy later on. The service was very good and prompt. Our waiter was very obliging. The menu is extensive and there is a full bar with a great drinks menu also. The atmosphere was lively with everyone enjoying themselves. Beautiful modern decor with the usual Trinidadian hospitality. Located across the street from the Barclay Center. If you are ever in Brooklyn come here to eat. they take reservations and I would advise making one since the place seems to be always packed.

We had shrimp and plantain for starters, roti and jerk salmon entrees. Both entrees were exceptionally good. The food was served surprisingly fast, which worried us at first. Thankfully the food was fresh, hot and perfectly seasoned. The Sorrel Martini was delicious. We will definitely return to the Sugarcane.

So you've just walked the Brooklyn Bridge and you're looking for a spot to revive and recoup? This is it. Tapas style dining for the most part. Raw bar, then an assortment of tapas options, plus a grilled fare option to end the meal. Cocktails were delish as well.

Came here for a birthday dinner of a relative. Restaurant décor is pretty cool. Service was good. Food was average to below average. Especially being in Brooklyn. Brooklyn has GREAT Jamaican/west indian restaurants. This one was just ok. Don't think I would come back. Rating this spot a 3.

I didn't rate this place excellent because of space......food is great and affordable the music is a bit loud but still pleasant because it's good music. Affordable great service and the owner is always on site and that's a plus. Delicious food,,,,give the shrimp roti a try you will not be disappointed!!!!

There is absolutely nothing I can say negative about this place. Kudos to the owners, management and staff that make this a much welcomed place in Brooklyn. Comfort, made a reality by high standards on every level, has left this Brooklyn boy more at peace with supporting his borough.

From the moment I entered Sugarcane I was greeted and seated. ..Music was great. Service was very quick.Drinks were strong. Food was authentic genuine Trini/Carib. I have relocated to Atlanta GA and have yet to experience the same. Whenever I return home to NYC.Sugarcane is,a Must stop ..Big up to Charmaine Phoebe Kree and the entire crew..You must try the Appetizer Sampler.

I went to Sugarcane Restaraunt on a Thursday night. You walk in with a burst of sweet reggae music. The bar is met with a diverse crowd from people of all colors and cultures drinking, vibing and socializing. Service was exceptional and even with a high volume of people, the hostess, server and waiter is on point with pleasing the customers. My hubby ordered the oxtail and I had the shrimp. It was excellent. Pair it off with a Hennessy sorrel and the food washes down smoothly. This is definitely a place I recommend to anyone. Its a mix between, Jamaican, Trinidadian and some Guyanian menu that any West Indian would appreciate. The music was an extra touch as you hear the latest reggae, hip hop and soca music. I definitely will patronize this restaraunt again.

I really love this place, from the food to the waiters, the mixologists, the hostesses! if you love Caribbean food and have a thing for delicious mixed drinks, then this is the spot.

The food was delicious! I had oxtail, rice and beans with plantains (which unfortunately weren't sweet). The waitress was attentive and did make recommendations for both food and drink. Even though the space is small, I liked the inviting atmosphere and will dine here again very soon

I went to Sugarcane last Friday (8/18). The last time I was there was 5 years ago. My girlfriend and I used to go every week prior to that. I'm so glad things haven't changed. The food tasted just as good as I remembered. My mouth was watering for the Chinese wings with macaroni pie and that's exactly what I ordered and I cleaned my plate! My date had the chicken rasta pasta. He was a bit skeptical as to how it will taste compared to Footprint's rasta pasta but it was better (I tasted some). The decor is the same cozy if not tight. They've become quiet popular over the years so it was veryyyyyyyy crowded, I'm glad we made reservations. Even though it was crowded and they've gained popularity I'm glad they haven't expanded or opened a new location. That's just my bias feeling. It was also a delight to see one of the waiters STILL working there (dreadlocks cutie). The prices did go up but that's to be expected. Rasta pasta, chinese chicken wings (delish!), macaroni pie (just as firm and cheesy), corona, and a watermelontini (MUST TRY) and bread pudding for dessert came up to $53. Still not bad. I see they have a sorreltini on the menu and I plan to try that. Go check out Sugarcane! I plan to go back this Friday.

Never gotten in. Always crowded, and not for the food. looks like a good pick up joint if you can get in.

Curried shrimp are very good and spicy. The callaloo is exceptional--creamy and spicy hot. If they still have the house made pepper sauce, get it. Some other dishes are ok but not exceptional. Great rum punch if you ask for less sugar.

I should say that the food is good, but what it is served compare to the price is typically an example of a new place created to make money. portions extremelly tiny. Unforttunately still few choices iin his area. ..

Ironically, we went to Dinner during an Islanders Hockey Game as it's across the street from the Barclay's Center. We had the Oxtail which was perfect for a chilly, rainy day. The Ginger Beer was spicy and not overly sweet. It happened to be Ladies Night and the Bar was packed, but the smallish Dining Room had availability. Dining Room had a ViP area in a Night Club vibe. Service is friendly and helpful with questions. Street Parking or Park at the nearby Mall. Atlantic Avenue Subway.

interesting drinks and tasty food.

My wife and l love this place. We live in a nearby neighborhood and love to pop in. The food is always excellent. This last trip we sat outside on a beautiful day with that awesome view of Jane's Carousel, The Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan. AJ (the server not the manager) made our trip fun and special. We had our family visiting from San Francisco. They are serious foodies and loved all the plates. We ate almost everything on the menu... :) My favorite new things I tried this time were the sweet potato from the grill with maple and marshmello and the blueberry crumble dessert. We usually get crudo, a lot of the sushi and from the grill the lamb chops. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. The list of cocktails is supreme and there are also mocktails, which some of us love. I would not hesitate to recommend this place, whether you are visiting or live near us! Joyce & Laureen

My wife and I went to the Celion dion concert at Barclays center and was super hungry after the show. Googled a restaurant and feet away was this great West Indian restaurant.(Mainly Trinidadian food) One thing I must say it will be packed because the spot isn't that big. Great place also to have a drink with their full bar section. Got seated in 10 minutes, food came quick and it was so damn good. The servers were very friendly and they made sure everything was on point . Thanks for the good food and you will enjoy, so thank me later.

This is one of my fav in Miami, although the place was empty the food was quite good. I love the small plates to share, actors was amazing. All kinds of tapas and great oysters. If the weather is nice sit at the patio with great Brooklyn bridge views and Manhattan. Great bar selection.

I came here for drinks with my girlfriends. We had appetizers which were the Chinese wings and jerk wings with a side of macaroni. I have been coming here for years but the some of the food can be hit or miss. For example the macaroni never taste the same. The drinks are great and the bartenders are attentive. Come early because it gets packed quickly. I definitely recommend this place but if your not in love the first visit give them a second chance.

The food at this place is excellent. The portions were big and the ambience was chill. It can get noisy -- We went on a Saturday night and the DJ's turntables were alongside the dining tables. He had his friends hanging out with him all lined up against the wall two feet away from where we were eating. I appreciated the music but I couldn't tell if I was eating at a restaurant or on the dancefloor of a club. I'll definately go back in spite of this. The callalloo was different from what I'm used to --it's soupy and very spicy. I liked it none the less -- next time I'll order it with bread or rice.

A great little Caribbean restaurant very close to the Barclays Center in B'klyn. Always crowded, noisy and very upbeat with a party atmosphere, however, the food, drinks and service has been top notched each time I've been there. I absolutely love their sorrel mojitos, the jerk salmon and the mac & cheese.

Went there for drinks, I will never do that again. This place is like a match box, over crowded, no place to move or sit, rude patrons and there is a requirement to place an order for a full dinner in order to sit at the tables at the front of the establishment........so ridiculous.

The prices on the website should match what you pay when you pick up your order. I wasted $80 dollars on food that was not good This place does not care about the quality or presentation of their food. The oxtails were hard and very oily. The plantains were soft & burnt. It tasted rotten. Not sure what the hype of this place was about but it is not worth the money. The website has the oxtails for $19.95 but I paid $26 for two. The Heritage Stew Chicken was $ 17.95 but I paid $22. I know it is call the Sugarcane but they are adding too much sugar in their cooking. I am not impressed to make another visit.

For authentic Trinidadian/West Indian food, Sugarcane is it!! The portions are plenty, the taste is amazing, and the vibe is right. Although I wish the place could be larger, the food is well worth its wait. I've been there often enough to have tried everything on the menu, frien accra, jerk wings, curry and roti, to the stewed chicken, and the delicious plantain crusted red snapper. One Tip; to really enjoy the experience of Sugarcane, don't go on a Friday or Saturday night. Way too busy!! (The wait can be an hour or more) During the week is great for a date or girls night out!!

Nice place, good service, excellent location. Owsome views on Manhattan Highly recommended to visit. Mike

I love sugarcane for the food and island vibe...I've never been disappointed with their menu which is primarily based on Trinidad and Tobago culture. My favorites are their coconut rice, calaloo, chinese salmon and potato salad. It's a nice ambience for the price (not at all cheap). The only downside is that it is waaaayyy too small. On most evenings (esp the weekends) your wait is exceptionally long and you are packed against other patrons waiting at the bar. Time to invest in a bigger spot!

Both times I visited, the service was terrible, but the food and drinks were the best. Our table was given away by mistake on a Friday night and we had to stand by the bar for almost 45 minutes until we were seated. The hostess was non-existent and we had to call the person in charge to eventually be seated. We were given one sample tray of food for our trouble. I would definitely go again despite these issues as the food and drinks made up for the hostess issues. The second time we missed our reservation by 5 minutes and had to wait almost an hour and a half. My friends and I love the DJ being right next to us as we requested what we wanted to hear all night long. The place is small, but this can be seen as a plus as everyone is friendly. The noise level can be brutal but my friends added to it also. :-) Try the Birds of Paradise drink. Made with Champagne and Sorrel. Suzanne P.

Sexiest Trinidadian Resturant in Brooklyn... better yet ever! ... nice atmosphere, Xcellent food, nice service... great prices!

I had heard lots about Sugarcane and was excited. On the plus side, we went on a Tuesday night and it was PACKED! Other restaurants had only a couple of people in each of them....but Sugarcane was overflowing.....we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. There was a crowded bar area and the restaurant itself was sadly small.....there is no such thing as personal space really. The food was good....but not outstanding....apart from the callalloo soup....which is outstanding! The service was....lax. The music was up WAY too loud which meant that everyone was shouting just to be heard. I maybe too old for the place....but it seems to me as a stranger that it needs to decide whether it wants to be a restaurant or a bar...probably reached the stage where it has to decide.

I have been to the restrant two times and I must say the food is exelant and the waiter was on point

Auhentic food. Superb taste and excellent porions. Definetely worth a first, second, thrid visit and more. The drinks were also generous and tasty. Definitely don't pass on deseserts.

Had dinner before a show. Went to restaurant was very busy. We were not able to eat at the restaurant but took advantage of carryout. The food was very good. The staff apologized for not being able to seat us. If you are going, make a reservation ahead of time. There was a 2.5 hour wait. The food was appealing, tasty and good. We had ample portions. It was very good.

I was here for brunch on a Sunday recently. I didn't sit at the a table but at the bar instead as I didn't know if I really was going to stay. But with that said, the drinks were absolutely amazing. The food was good, I had the chicken and waffles. To my surprise the chicken was perfectly cooked. There wasn't too much breading nor was it salty..dare I say it had a sweet taste to it. Everything was reasonably priced. $8-$14 for drinks. The bartender was so nice and even tho he was overwhelmed(he was the only bartender working) he handled the pressure well and was able to stay on top of the bar and other peoples drink orders at the tables. Kudos to him. Overall I had a good experience.

I've been to the establishment quite a few times and it's sad to say , THE SERVICE SUCKS!!! There's one waitress that i seem to get all the time and she's really terrible, she takes long to come and place your order than she rush rush you with her pen and robotic stance. Oh did i forget to mention she'll try and bring all your food at once and come up with a dum excuse " like oh i thought you wanted your appetizer with your food?" knowing well enough that's just sounds stupid . Instead of saying oh excuse the delay blah blah blah.. Sugarcane must understand bad service equals not worth it visits no matter how good the food is> Hire a new server with a natural that enjoys people interaction, a hostess that smiles and understand that extended wait for food after the order had been place makes for BAD business witch equal decreased to no business. oh did i mention the other person in my party did receive his appetizer on time, yet i was served a bs excuse. GET IT TOGETHER SUGARCANE!!! Times are hard so is the economics of this world. So when one dines out they are looking for relaxed joyful stress free time. So on that note CHECK YA' SERVER!! DEM NAHHH RIGHT'CHA!!!

I felt I was home in Trinidad. The music, language and decor. Flowers synonymous with home. An excellent menu consisting of a taste of Trinidad. The food is delicious and the pone and bread pudding yummy. Great portions and prices. Great staff. Keep on jamming. I will always dine whenever in the city.

This is a nice little Caribbean restaurant right in downtown Brooklyn. My friends and I often go here when we just want a calm girls night with good Caribbean food and music. Food is always good, as well as drinks. Their baked macaroni pie and oxtail is so good. Music is always playing and they play the latest soca music for all the soca lovers. However I do wish they get a bigger place because they have so much potential.

damn good Carribean food.

Average food and over priced, friendly service at least. You must shout to have a conversation. Few things need to be changed to make this place great, such as decor it's a melange of like 4 different styles.

This place is great. If you want jerk chicken or something with mango in it then try it. It has a fun atmosphere.

This is a huge restaurant in the Dumbo area of Brooklyn. We chose to eat outside in the sun , with the dog. The setting is magnificent between the two gigantic bridges overlooking the East River. We chose various snacks , dips , Brussels sprouts , cauliflower. Then the fish and roast chicken dishes were shared by all. They were really speedily served and delicious. The whole family enjoyed all the dishes and shared a large ice cream and fruit dessert. But: all these came at a huge price. $ 328. US!

If you looking for tasty orgasmic food this is your to go place, amazing Caribbean food the steak is to die for, the potatoes salad a dream, best jerk wings I ever had. Drinks are amazing and super strong and delicious personally I cannot have more than one because is too much for me. Lol

I love this place. The curried salmon is phenomenal. The portion size could be a little bigger but overall the food is yummy. In addition I wish the restaurant had more space. The crowd gets pretty heavy at night and lots of people tend to crowd the bar, with no real place to wait to be seated for a table. It' seems like a really good social setting. I also noticed lots of people like to come here as an after work spot.

Tried this place out, came with a group and we enjoyed our drinks, service was a little busy, as it was really packed.

My friend and I went to Sugarcane on a Saturday night. We really enjoyed the experience. Our waiter was very cordial, and service was very quick, we didn't have to wait a long time for our food. I ordered the jerk salmon with barbecue sauce while my friend he ordered the king fish salmon which were both absolutely delicious. I love the Caribbean vibe there too,the place was blasting with soca and reggae music. And the waiters were very happy and friendly which is good to see. We loved our experience there and will definitely be back.

I totally enjoyed my meal, especially the calaloo soup. The waitress was very nice and helpful in helping us pick the perfect meal. I highly recommend.

Nice West Indian flavor, good after work spot, gets a bit crowded, nice size bar, limited eating area, worth the wait.

Wow. Everything is good. We went with about 6 friends and the seating is TIGHT but the food is worth the squeeze! You will enjoy every dish-like really (except maybe the spring rolls)

Same ol Sugarcane. Great Food, great drinks, all if you can get them. Yes, Service is wanting. But, it's West Indian, so that explains that. But, if you have patience, sit at the bar ( go early) and make sure you order everything you need from the bar man at once as he will disappear for 20 mins. Yes, he will be 5 feet in front of you, but he won't see you or hear you. It's llke the hero in InterStellar who was trapped in another dimension in his daughter's bookshelf wall. You can see him, but he can't see you. But, you DO get to listen to Soca and eat Callaloo and Macaroni Pie. Plus, there are Trini's. Everybody loves Trini's.

Great Caribbean, food, drinks and atmosphere and music. Try the sorrel martini 👍. Very crowded on the weekends

Celebrated my birthday with family and friends at Sugarcane and had a blast!! The service was spot on and the food just delicious! I had the jerk salmon! Mmmmmm

I came here with a friend who is a regular. It was late on a Thursday, and the place was heaving. I would've liked a bit less noise, but at least the music was good and the talk was peppered with laughter. This is a genuine Caribbean place, with all the classics: Jerk, callaloo, plantain and dumpling. The restaurant was really busy and the waitress apologised for our wait. We did wait for some time for our starter, but the main followed quite quickly. The jerk chicken was good, not "real" jerk, but still with a kick and jerk enough. The plantain was tasty and not too rubbery. We didn't have desert.

Came here on a Friday afterwork with a friend. I had a great experience at the bar. They also have happy hour specials too. Great music and atmosphere. This would be a good date night spot. I did notice couches/benches next to the bar area for added coziness. Get the mojito! This was made by Lance, one of the bartenders at Sugarcane. Honestly, one of the best mojitos that I have tasted in my life!

I had the Whole Snapper , Macaroni Pie, and cabbage ! The food was delicious ! We also had the jerk chicken wings for our appetizer! Great place and even better ambiance!

Nice place and atmosphere. Seating is somewhat tight. Our waiter spoke to us and said he would return.....15 minutes later, he returns and has his pen and pad out and not speaking. I asked for 2 glasses of water and it seemed to trouble him...after we placed our order, we watched him serve other tables and never once ask us if we need anything or give us an update. I then asked him what was the delay, it has been over 30 minutes. He was very vague and we did not understand his explanation. He stated the tickets got jumbled, and everything is just messed up. I asked another employee, Jamilah for a manager. She asked if she could help since the manager was not there. We told her the problem, she was very apologetic and said she would see what the issue is. We were ready to leave but she asked us to give her a chance. She came back with our food immediately and told us she was now our server. She offered us dessert for our inconvienence. We order the Trinidadian chinese wings, vegetarian spring rolls and west indian fried chicken with sauteed cabbage and potato salad. the cabbage menu was misleading, it was very spicy and not enjoyable. the wings and rolls were very good. as was the potato salad and fried chicken, The dessert menu was not too appealing to us. I probably will not sit and eat again but will order drinks at the bar.

I ate at this restaurant couple years ago and its authenticity certainly has nose-dived. Sugarcane is no longer an authentic Trinidad Restaurant. There are only a few indiginous items on the menu such as roti, callalo, sahina and 'bus-up-shot'. Years ago you could find many more Trinidadian dishes on the menu. Many items are now "jerk" which is Jamaican. The menu has also been scaled back to a few items. Could not even find a Trinidadian beer on the menu except for a cooler called shandy. All the food has been fused with other influences. Overall the food was extremely salty and not as tasty as would be expected from a Trinidad restaurant. Seating is very tight as it is a small restaurant and expect to have people bump into you from the back and the sides as you attempt to enjoy your meal at a table. I had a mango daquori and it was nothing but very wartered down, barely any flavor. The atmosphere is very load with loud music, do not expect to have a romantic dinner if that is your intention. The music started off with calypso (Trinidadian) and then half way through started playing Regea (Jamaican). This restaurant should be a club. If you want authentic Trinidad food, go further down Flatbush to one of the other Trinidad restaurants.

We went there today just for drinks, it's small but there is a bar and counter top tables with lower seating also a few counter top tables see taken the bar was full of men sitting drinking. We walked in and stood there a while before the host came we told her drinks and appetizer she said sit by the bar and pointed to the corner but there was no seats lol so a guy said oh I don't have any seat there so back to standing waiting for her now she said no seat oh offered look there is one in the middle and one to the next end really I could not understand why she widely suggest a party of 2 sit separate. So we asked for a table from a really empty set of tables she said no because you have to purchase a full dinner to get seated we said we were having drinks and app she said no so we left money walked out the door Lots of empty tables left.

Great place to get some very good Jamican food! I was in town for three days and ate there two days out of the three. Try the jerk chicken, mac and cheese pie, curry chicken..and rum punch...Warning..very good and strong! However, do not bother making reservations! I made reservations for 8pm and was not seated until9pm! It is very small place with limited seating. The owner should not accept reservations on weekends if they can not gurantee a time!

I went here with a friend of mine before a basketball game at Barclays. We had a reservation but was seated earlier because there was nobody waiting. Go with an appetite. Our food was amazing, cooked with spices and a good kick. Definitely an island vibe. Hearty portions. Great choices on a full menu. But sides cost extra. Drinks were tasty, made with rums and tequila. Small space, so remember to make a reservation because it fills up quickly. Highly recommend. After dinner, it’s a short walk to Barclays or the train station.

Great food, great drinks. Terrible service and extremely crowded

Visited this restaurant with family over Thanksgiving with my siblings. Really wonderful meal. Mostly seafood and vegetarian dishes but everything was tremendous. The sorrel drinks were out if this world!! Will definitely return again and again.

My friend and I cam from 3 hours away to experience the delicious good from sugarcane say we will celebrate by birthday there. We arrived Friday April 15th at 9.30 pm and the place was pack. Walked in and instead of the host and hostess welcomed us the host went over out heads and ask the people behind us how much was in their party. I went to the waitress and told her we have a party of two and what's the procedure. She told me it's an half an hour wait so we was like ok we will wait. We waited an hour and half then I asked the bartender what the process in here to get a table because I see many people come after us and got a table sitting and eating. He asked politely did you walk in or make a reservation? I said walk in he said that's why people made reservations. Mind you no where on the website indicated that you can make a reservation everything needs to be updated on the website it states they close 12am they really close at 2am. The hostess didn't seem to care if we had a long wait or not. Great customer service she would have come over cause we were just standing a breath away from her because the place was so pack and said we apologize for the wait however people made reservations and had to be seated first (understandable) but not a word. Finally I had to ask what's the hold up when she said oh I didn't forget you guys you are next. Trust and believe if we knew our way around for a good meal we would of left. Finally we got a table. Food was great drinks was great however customer service from the hostess and host was not as good. The music was a little Loud while having dinner but the music selection by the dj was great. He played for everyone n every age grout. My recommendation would be get a bigger spot try to separate the dining area from the bar. This place have great potential to be very upscale. If you are dining dine in style not feeling like you on the Middle of the dance floor dining.

The food is good (but sometimes salty), their jerk wings are the BEST! Servers are friendly, good music.

This will be a step by step review. My husband and I wanted dinner and didn't know where to go and ended up here. We went around 8:30p.m. on a Wednesday night and we seated immediately. The vibe of the place isn't that of the Caribbean, rather just a lot of extremely loud soca music. The place itself is very small, so except to be seated right next to someone else. So the average wait time for the server to come to greet you was long, (and the restaurant only had about 5 other tables seated) but her personality made up for that wait time and the staff was very friendly. I got the Rasta Pasta. It was nothing like the one at Footprints. This was much better and had caribbean flavors in it( I tasted coconut milk, golden ray, cabbage, sweet peppers etc). It was one of the best pasta dishes in a very long time. The serving sizes were really generous. You get your monies worth. It's a Trinidadian establishment so it was clean and the food was seasoned excellently. Just to give you guys the head up, the drinks are over priced. We got a glass of sorrel (non alcoholic) for $5.00 and it contained like 4oz of liquid. So skip local drinks, unless you are really craving it. I didn't enjoy the sorrel, it was not concentrated enough to get the sorrel flavor. This place is worth a visit. Even though the decor and vibe may not be what you think, the food will satisfy you.

Small place, but amazing caribbean cuisine. Portions are big, so if you're calorie conscious, plan to share.

Sooooo...........I've been coming to Sugarcane since 2004 and the quality remains the same. Great food and drinks. The oxtail is always a favorite, along with the Stew Chicken and the Jambalasi Shrimp. Mac and Cheese is a go to as well. The only downside of Sugarcane is the size of the restaurant. Its always super crowded because it's not that large of a restaurant. As the neighborhood changes, I'm always glad to come around and see something familiar, and Sugarcane never disappoints.

Awesome atmosphere!. great music, food and unique drinks! Really great place to socialize in Brooklyn. I visit there every time I go to NY.

The Sugarcane is a Miami restaurant transported to the Brooklyn water front. It has a raw bar and grilled foods. For NYC, the price is reasonable. And the selection excellent. The outfoor seating overlooks the Brooklyn and Williamsburg Bridges. The location is a restored 150-year old warehouse that was a center of the tobacco trade. A really good experience all-round.

I try to visit Sugarcane everytime I visit family in Park Slope. It is a short walk from Atlantic Station and Barclays Center as well. If you want some good Caribbean cuisine, and drinks, this is THE PLACE to visit. As typical with restaurants in Park Slope I think the pricing is high, but the food is good. Their buss-up-shut and curry is yum. Their eggnog and sorrel is also good. I am not sure if they sell it year round or only during the holidays. Nevertheless, Sugarcane stays packed because of their food selections, and consistency. I cannot elaborate about the service because it was neither horrible nor was it great. I will say a smile and a bit of small talk goes a long way. Customers are big on service. Hopefully I can better rate that category on my next visit.

Was taken out to eat here for my birthday, I was told that it was a small place and could get crowded but that the food and drinks were good. And true enough the place was small and it did get very crowded, it was a Saturday night so the party atmosphere was in full effect. However the food was better than good it was great! I had the Jambalasi shrimp with cocnut rice & callaloo, I can not say enough about how delicious it all was.The sorrel martini was good but not really my kind of drink was to sweet for me personally. But I will be returning! Looking forward to trying the Ox Tails!

food is delicious...service and attitudes SUCK, SUCK, SUCK!

After spending all day at the local Museum in Brooklyn, we were looking at something not far from our hotel and/or the subway for dinner. Sugarcane popped on our map, so we checked out Trip Advisor. Ratings were above average for a reason. Located within a block of the Bergen Station, the place was hoping at 6pm on a Sunday, but we had no wait for a seat. The interior is slightly dark and bathed in red light, the music is loud and the crowd friendly, as was Marlon S our waiter. We skipped the appetizers and went straight for our main course. My companion had the Curry Salmon with Mango Coleslaw and Plantains for sides. I had the JerK Chicken with Red Stripe BBQ sauce, and as sides the Mango Coleslaw and a House Salad, mango dressing. Our verdict: simply divine. Everything was fresh, with large portions. The salmon was about 8 oz, the curry was hearty but not too hot and you could still taste the fish within. The 1/2 chicken was slathered in BBQ but you could taste the jerk under it, and was neither too dry nor undercooked. More than enough for both to have a meal and to share with each other. Mango slaw was fresh cabbage, mango and carrots, soft yet crunchy all the way and not drowned in dressing. Plantains were perfectly cooked and very flavorful. The house salad was fresh mixed greens, with fresh tomato with a dressing that was not too syrupy or overdone with vinegar. Highly recommend this location. The meals were very reasonably priced, meaning the entire bill with taxes was $45, before alcohol and tip. Note: photos slightly tinged red due to room lighting.

App Sample platter and Jumbie are my go-to items at this spot, but their entire menu is good. Cool location, parking can be iffy at times as with most venues in this area but its 2 blocks away from the Subway and 2 blocks (in opposite direction) from Sports Bar w/pool & Air hockey, etc.

Our experience was a good one. Our food was good the service was great and the drinks were great and always ontime. My only comment would be online it stated that the restaurant opens at 5 p.m. however when we got there a sign on the door stated that it was opening till 5:30.outside of that everything was great.

I really enjoyed it was my first time with my friend Dee I enjoyed everything I ate my favorite is the jerk wings and callaloo I had the rum punch very tasty will be going back soon :)

Came to Sugarcane for a quick late brunch. The food was good, drinks packed a punch. Cant say much about the service, it was laid back.

I've never visited Sugarcane for the warm and fuzzy service; it has never existed. That said, the food was once enough to lure me back to experience the punishment doled out by the staff. Where else would you go, and have the staff (especially the bartenders) force you to take control of your dining experience? I've sat and watched them communicate via grunts and nods of the head: Who does that? Is the clientele not worthy of communication? About two weeks ago is when I decided that enough is enough! On top of the indifferent and sometimes rude staff, I was served a red snapper that was so not fresh; I could smell that it wasn't fresh as it was placed in front of me. Anyhoo, I replaced it with oxtails, a dish that was once stellar at this place, but one that I could only pretend to enjoy on this particular evening. Sugarcane, you need to get it together, and stop taking your patrons for granted.! If you were a restaurant catering to another ethnic group, you would have closed long ago, because they don't stand for the kind of [--] you force your customers to endure.

Atmosphere is great, young hip crowd. But not too young where you feel like the kindergarteners just arrived. The food is fantastic.

Beautiful warm Sunday in October and so it was delightful to be able to sit out in the sun. The service was a bit slow to start, but they were pretty slammed. The waiter had an excellent description of how they focus on small plates, tapas style, to be shared. He recommended we order 2 to 3 per person and since we were hungry we ordered 3 each (to share). The food came at a nice pace.. one dish at a time (in no discernible order). The first was squid, which was generous and had nice spicing (just a bit of heat). Nice texture. We next had tuna tartare, which was beautifully presented and fresh. It came on an unappetizing rice cracker. Next up was the octopus, which was a bit of a disappointment. The sauce was too much like a BBQ sauce and was overpowering. But, the octopus was tender and cooked beautifully. The hit of the lunch was the scallop crudo. Came with green apple, lime, and truffle oil. Packed a powerful punch. What a bite. Then onto meat. We had the skirt steak, which was fine. Nicely cooked, but more seasoning was needed. We finished off with the wagyu sliders, with onion jam, mushrooms. Again, the sauce was a bit too much, and there was too much bun. Stripped down, it was an amazing bite. Overall, a very pleasant lunch for around $130 (with tip, and no alcohol).

I have not been to this location in several years the are so many new spots opening in Brooklyn to dine. However, revisiting this establish after a longtime made the experience just awesome. The food was great and well prepare for my taste buds. I had one sorrel martini that was light out good. Service felt personalized and genuine. Love the music in the background, I won’t wait so long to return.

My American based cousins took me to dinner at this restaurant during my visit to NYC. The restaurant definitely has the vibes aspect going on, as it was filled to capacity and soca music was pumping. Now when I say pumping I was ready to get on the dancefloor and DANCE. The bar was well stocked and there was standing room only at the bar section. This is where the problem starts. The restaurant is very small and once you enter you must shuffle past the bar area before getting to the dining section. I visited on a tuesday and it was very difficult to enter and get to an available table. The food was fantastic...best fried chicken I have had in a while. However it took almost an hour to get our meals. Then to pay was another 15 minute wait. Overall the waitstaff seemed overwhelmed with the crowd and cramped conditions. Ultimately, if you want a nice trini evening with food and music, then this is your venue. However cramped conditions and long waiting times will affect your dining experience.

Happy hour is great I enjoyed the sorrel and the jerk chicken would definetly recommend and come again

Nice presentation, food, and atmosphere......however the greeter had an attitude and was not as nice and shiney as the silver crome toilets.....maybe she should work down there! Jerk salmon was amazing!

Sugarcane has a interesting menu that includes sushi, salads and grilled fish and meats. You can order small, plates ( 3 or 4 per person) or more traditional entrees. They have three different kitchens and the food comes out when it’s ready-that means your guests won’t necessarily get their food when you do. Fun cocktail menu . The trouble is none of the food is very good. And the service wasn’t either on our latest visit. I’ve been there twice and will try one more time before I cross it off my list because I love the location -it is just across the walkway from St. Ann’s Theater.

I was desperate for a roti and so my friend took me here. Roti did not disappoint. Authentic Trini roti. A bit too big but oh so yummy. Cocktails are on point and the atmosphere is friendly and lively. Make it a point to get some good food here when you are next in town!

I was not impressed with their food. I had 🍛y salmon, rice and mac n cheese. My salmon was overly salty, the rice had no flavor and the mac n cheese was dry. Where was all the flavoring other people wrote on their reviews. We enjoyed our drinks, liquor is always good when every thing else isn't. The vibe at the restaurant was warm and inviting. Maybe the cook was off his game, it was Thursday for God sakes 8.21.19. We will try again some other day.

Getting here was easy from Manhattan, the location is at the base of the Brooklyn Bridge. For shopping after eating there is a nearby West Elm and J Crew. It opens at 10am on a Sunday which seemed an earlier than other close by places. The brunch choices were complimented with items from the raw/sushi bar and grill. The mock tails were absolutely divine. All the dishes were fresh and had an element of difference about them. Prices were reasonable for the quality of food. Service was great. We went on a cold winters day but would love to sit outside on the many outside tables in summer. The decor and views all added to a wonderful ambience.

The food and drinks get an A but the service is so bad that the F it deserves isn't worth going through the drama . By the time the robot, I mean waitress, gets to your order and actually gets the food your too hungry to enjoy it. I've been there a couple of times but today was the last straw! There were to other tables seated after us and they got there food and left before we could get anything. I used to recommend it, but the wait is too long and the staff is very UNPROFESSIONAL. I give value a 2/5 b/c of the wait I rather go to another restaurant and be feed than to wait 20-40 minutes. That's after you've been seated, then another 30-40 minute wait for the food. Let's not mention the lousy attitude. Atmosphere gets a 1/5 if your looking for a pick up at the bar and are looking forward to having people step on your shoes. I wish I could give service a 0 but I will settle for a 1/5.

I’ve just came from Miami for the long weekend and I just realized they open a sugarcane in Brooklyn, I decided to try them out. The whole dinner experience was above and beyond my expectations since the beginning. The hostess were well knowledgeable welcoming my friend and I, giving us the whole explanation how the restaurant works and everything. The weather in NY was amazing so we decided to seat outside, so first the priceless view, second the unique food and to wrapped up the outstanding server. Thank you very much sugar cane to help making my trip to NY unforgettable.

I love this place! Great Jamaican food in a very nice restaurant. Warm, friendly service. Crowded bar during popular hours. I like having and earlyish dinner on a weeknight to avoid the crowds.

Awesome atmosphere! The place is very small and the servers seemed overwhelmed, had to remind them several times for our drinks! The place is pretty pricey for a Caribbean restaurant as well. Jerk tacos were awesome! You can find cheaper West Indian eats in Brooklyn, but if you're in the area I guess it would be a convenient place to grab a bite. Music was fairly loud, not sure it's very kid friendly. The place turns into a bit of a bar after hours as well.

Small space but the food is fabulous! Make your reservations or else wait and wait and wait while you smell the aromas coming from the kitchen. Unique flavors and dishes especially the sorrel. Don't miss the experience. Without a doubt you'll be back!

The food was great. We ate tapas style, the dishes were continuously coming, everything was fresh, services. The alcohol was top shelf.

I love to hang out by the bar here. Usually play good music. Drinks and food are always good; especially the jerk wings and macaroni and cheese.

I always enjoy dining here but the wait can be a pain when your hungry! Dined here on a Saturday (early evening), we were told we had an hour wait and decided to hit the bar. The drinks were "horrible"! I had a watermelon martini and my sister had a plain mojito; the bartender forgot to add the sugar to the mojito and it tasted like sour lemon juice. We complained but were told there was nothing else that could be done. When the shifts changed and the female bartender came, we addressed it and she knew exactly what was missing and "saved" the drink! The rest of the night we asked our waiter Javier to have her make all of our drinks and needless to say we were all HAPPY! The food is always exceptional....no complaints there other than they took out the codfish fritter from the everyday menu :-(. Would love it if they could expand and make the space much bigger since there is always a wait of over an hour!

Sugarcane, is guaranteed delish food and drinks. its one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn. Despite how small it is, which is always sort of an issue, it's actually a great place to have authentic West Indian food. I brought my friend visiting me from Australia here and she had the stew and talks about it to this day. Amazing place.

Sugarcane is unpretentious and authentically Trini. Enjoy a drink at the bar while listening to the stylings of the islands as well as contemporary music of the day. A reservation is recommend as its a small establishment and patrons come to eat drink and be merry for as long as that may take. The food is flavorful
Excellent food but very noisy
Delicious caribbean food and not at a bad price. The waitress was very good and professional. She asked if we'd been there before. When we said no, she rain down the menu for us and gave us her recommendations. She also responded to questions we asked about specific menu items. It took a little longer than we expected to get our meal but the restaurant was crowded. We had no complaints about the quality of the food or the amount we received for the price.
