Good food for the price

By Brodie |

The buffet has a large selection of different types of food, although mostly it's Asian. Some items are really excellent while others are just ok. In general though the price we paid of $18.99 for an adult was exceptional for the amount of food we were able to eat. The service wasn't anything special, but that's to be expected at a buffet. It had a lot of vegetarian options. Go hungry!

Variety and Good Quality

By GeorgeLinCPA |

Although this price is a little higher than other local buffets, the quality and variety compensate. I have yet to try Tropical Buffet and Grill in Northridge since it has recently opened up from formerly being LA Buffet, but I have heard good things. But for now Sumo is the place

Good for groups

By Jonas S |

Nothing special really but I loved the selection of the food and the courteous staff. We arrived early evening and things were just starting. Ambiance not notable but its good for a team that wanted to share stories and have fun dining. Pasta selection was great plus their selection of chinese quick eats.

I am very surprised by this place

By kisssmee |

I came on a Sunday evening just before the dinner crowd. From the parking, it looked empty, but I was surprised to see that they were busy when I went inside. I was seated immediately and the drink orders were taken. They have sushi, poke, teppanyaki, the usual Asian buffet foods (beef broccoli, walnut shrimp minus the walnut, pizza, fries, seafood and a lot more) a fondue, self-serve ice cream, fresh fruit, pastry and a lot more. The food wasn't bad, the service was fine. I really enjoyed the teppanyaki and the dishes they had here. I liked that for the dessert there was pastry (even if it was just one choice) opposed to just being fruit. It was a cold day and ordered hot tea and it turned out to be cold tea. Other than the tea incident I really enjoyed my visit here and will come back again. They offer a senior discount of 10% and 20% off Mondays and Tuesdays.

Definitely does not worth for$20.99.

By Saeed T |

We called for our group party and ask for a price for adult, they said $12.99.After we eat, get charge for $20.99.That is cheating. I spoke with the manager and he said sorry I don't know who answers the phone. Just keep in your mind don't trust their word by the phone. Definitely does not worth for that price.

Beer and wine - most asian buffets don't serve alcohol

By Starviagera |

How uncivilized to eat without wine or beer, so one star for that! Food is very good for a buffet. Lot's of seafood and decent sushi. Service is good but very busy. It is Sunday for lunch, so get there late or early.

Tasty for - nice for lunch - Don't expect any service though

By David G |

Food was very good - HOT and tasty. Service was nowhere to be found. It is a buffet but no one came around to check on drinks. Bus boy did clean tables when done with food. I even had to go to counter to get and pay my bill.

Great value for money

Amazing choice of dishes, very busy so the food was fresh and being replaced constantly. Recommended

SUMPTUOUS Feast!

By Leticia S |

Amazingly delicious foods ( sushi, seafoods, Asian fusion, etc) for a reasonably affordable price in the Western end of the San Fernando Valley. Freshly cooked foods and fresh fruits are available for repeats but for steak lovers, the Teppanyaki can also grill your favorite steak with your personally created salad. Spacious dining room can accommodate private gatherings or parties. Perfect for enjoying the wide selection of Asian dishes with Western influence and more!

needs help

By Lew W |

They just reopened to eat on sidewalk. Totally disorganized. Obvious they did not think through the process. They just run around while customers walk around with no one helping the customers. Instead of understanding how buffet lines go (like military), they have one person serving one customer. Thus employees are running back and forth between buffet stations like chickens and the customer follows them around. Utter confusion. Only buffet items of any taste and quality was the raw salmon and tuna. Everything else was worse than previous to covid. for example fried shrimp were cold and breading was like wet bread. Corn was in water so long tasted like water. Mussels with some type of cheese were, well you get the idea. Overall the food was of poor quality and the process was irrational and caused long lines. Would not recommend.until they get act together and improve the food quality.

Better than Zen Buffet that was there before

By plato1234 |

We drove by the location of there old Zen Buffet that we tried last year and which was disappointing and discovered it was now the Sumo Buffet. We decided to try it and were quite pleased . The buffet layout has changed and the restaurant was clean and the food well presented and tasty. We do not know if there is new ownership or just a rebadging but the results are positive.

Nice Choices in an Asian Buffewt

By Jeannie D |

There are so many choices of fresh looking food (cold and hot) that everyone has something to enjoy. The Teppan was good but the chicken a tad dry. The food is good.

All You Can Eat Asian & Seafood? Don't Worry, It's Good

By christineess |

Recently had a business lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Good selection of seafood, Asian themed food, deserts and even sushi - all for about $12.00 + tax and tip. Restaurant was very crowded, but they moved people through quickly so over all, I'd say "try it."

Veriety of mostly Asian food but lack of communication

By Shervin1359 |

It s buffet so you should not expect the highest quality but it s not that bad.Price is ok and for alcohol drinks dine expect many different types drinks.I tried in the middle of the week.Hostes did nit understand English well and could not speak English either. She took us to our table and we were waiting for at least 15 minutes for our server and here is the sad part, they were standing 5 steps away and so busy with taking to each other .Finally I had to call them loudly to come take our drink order .They had variety of food but they ran out of some of them including Korean bbq and lobster but nobody refilled them for a while .Finally someone asked them to refill and they did .They have a grill place where you pick raw steak and chicken and shrimp, plus vegetable and ask the guy who works there to grill them.I did for the first time (each person can only have one time chance )and asked the guy to put no oil or minimum oil and well done but he could not communicate at all and finally I got a stake with plenty of oil. Then later I helped my mom to order and there was a lady there .I asked her for oil and she could understand but when I asked for well done she did not have any clue what well done meant. They close at 9.30 but around 9 they started cleaning on front of us and some staff they picked their own food and came and sat on tables close to clients and started eating our waitress dropped our bill and waited for 15 minutes and called her several times but she did not come to pick up and eventually we had to take it to the front to pay by ourselves .Overall for the price you pay it s a good place to try

Ok Not Great

By flyerforfood |

The food here is hit and miss. Some is really good and some isnt great. The Teppanyaki is ok but the steak was tough, but what do you expect. The sushi was good with many selections. The choices where pretty good overal. What went wrong was when I got honey dew melon for deaert it was over ripe mushy and should not be out to be eaten. The pinapple was the same. Over all I would come again For $19.70 plus tip its not a bad deal.

Decent Local Buffet

By Joe P |

Went here on a weekend afternoon, and it was not too crowded. $18.99 a head plus whatever you want to drink. I heard during the week for lunch the price is a few dollars less a head. Besides the usual beverages, they have beer & wine. As far as food goes, they have many items to chose from. Everything from sushi to Chinese, and several other choices. Things like duck & steamed crawdads. I saw several shrimp dishes as well. Salads, fruits, vegetables, etc. There is a tepanyaki station where you select your ingredients, and they cook them up. The dessert section is well equipped, and includes a chocolate fountain. The place is clean too. Service on par as well. We were seated immediately at our table of choice, dishes quickly cleared. Food was tasty too. I would go back here.

Good deal for the money

Sumo offers a large selection of Asian food starting with sushi and a large selection of soups it’s a good beginning to a satisfying meal. The food selection is quite good from Asian dishes to some American favorites. The pizza is ok at best but Asian dishes is their specialty. Good selection to choose from - the sushi is plentiful and has a good turn over with a fair selection. Kinda surprised that spare ribs were not offered at dinner time. The grill section had a nice selection but the sign at the steak station was a bit tacky saying only one per person. Nevertheless, the grilling station offers nice choices. Desert is the usual - nothing over the top. All the selections looked fresh. The overall appearance could have been better but for a buffet - it’s ok For the price you get you’re moneys worth. bottom line - it’s a good deal Enjoy 🌴😎🌴

Something for everybody

For about $20 you get crab legs and steak all the shrimp you can eat desert. Pretty good for the price to satisfy the fussy family.

Very Good Food & Service

By Dragon789wv |

This is second time for lunch we've been here - a year apart! We have enjoyed the food very much both times. Service has always been good, and quick to clear empty dishes, etc. There's a lot of sushi which is fresh. Lots of other great dishes, and huge varieties. Seafood, meats... Lots of desserts, ranging from fresh fruits to ice cream Price is very reasonable, for the amount and variety of great food for a buffet. We got the Senior Discount, 20% on Mondays & Tuesdays, 10% other days. Definitely we will be back here when we are in the Woodland Hills area again.

Modest, but overpriced

By Sonova_Beach |

This is a makeover from the previous owner. While there hasn't been an expansion of the menu items, don't expect fast refills of empty food trays. Seating is adequate, althogh you may experience longer than wait times during peak hourso feth day. Why? We don't know, but since this is the only Asian buffet in close proximity, that may be the reason people are willing to wait for overpriced, mediocre food.

Solid buffet!

By B0nzzzzzzz |

Great selection, good service and food was better then most Buffet's. The beef was soft, the curry chicken had no gristle anger the lomain noodles were not greasy! Even the sweet tea was great, very happy. The only reason these lost one star was the desert selection was small. With that said, the ice cream was great!!

Good value for the money

I took the entire crew and photographers during my LA workshop (22 people) - and the food was pretty good. It's one of those all-you-can-eat buffet restaurants - so any comparison to a high-class Sushi place like Nobu is inappropriate. I liked it. However, I would not drive a 30+ min detour which is mandatory to achieve 5 stars in my rating scheme, so I would have given four stars. Why three stars, then? I think they were very lucky. For our group, they auto-added a 15% tip - and really, the service was not as good as their food. Still: I would have gladly given the 15% - BUT: they auto-added and then asked again for the tip on the checkout - thought we were stupid tourists, so they could possibly get double-tipped. Sorry, but when the guy said "the tip is not included" when it already was - I call this fraud. So three stars are a gift, I was tempted to give one star. That aside, the food is worth its money. Maybe they take this as a lesson and will train their staff to do better.

Nothing Special For The Price

By Gerry D |

At $19.99 for dinner, plus drink, it wasn't that special. There are several choices, but many of the bins were near empty, like the chow mein and fried rice. Salmon was ok, chicken on a stick cooked to burnt char on the edges, very crunchy. There is a place where they cook raw meat and veggies for you, and a chocolate fountain, but still not worth the price. They added the tip to our bill even though the drinks were not refilled and plates were collected sporadically. Not much contact with a server for there to be a 15% tip added. So total cost per person was around $25 for nothing that great.

Cheap And Cheerful!

By George G |

My sister took me here for lunch as she know I like sushi. For a sushi buffet and for $13 per person all you can eat - it's not bad at all and great VFM. You can see the sushi - chef making the sushi in front of you and they also have a selection of sashimi. OK.. the tuna and salmon are not top grade but it's fresh. The other dishes are mainly standard Chinese items with a nice section for stir fry where the chef will cook your selected items, this includes beef, chicken and shrimp. If you are in the area this is a great place to stop and have a quick lunch for under $15..

Sumptuous Buffet FOODS

One of the local food aficionados food buffet restaurant in the San Fernando Valley. The buffet offers a wide variety of delicious selections ( Chinese, Sushi, Italian) and even a choice of broiled steaks and veggies prepared as you wait in line. They also offer buffet and catering trays to go. Reasonable price , open 7 days a week and plenty of parking.
