Very Interesting Menu

By M943CSwilliamh |

We have eaten here a number of times and always find new and tasty menu items. On weekends (and may other times) plan for a wait although this day we were able to walk right in for a table for two. Plan to try the daily specials. We always look for Actors' Express actors as part of the wait staff. Although it is rather pricy, it is worth a visit.

An Off Night

By GuyFromAtlanta_GA |

We have enjoyed many meals here at SIMB but tonight was a disaster. The service was unbelievably slow and disorganized. I felt bad for our server because she clearly knew that the service issues were affecting the entire restaurant. The patrons seated behind us simply walked out after waiting for service. It went downhill from there. Our wedge salads were served on hot plates which wilted the lettuce of course. We still ate the salads to avoid further delay. We both had fried chicken dinners, which were OK but they were dark meat - no breasts - and the portion size was small compared to other restaurants in town. The menu was also very different from their website, both in selection and price. Their signature meat loaf and shrimp & grits are now gone, and most entrees are priced higher. A restaurant must keep their website up to date to stay competitive, as this is the primary source of info for most patrons. I hope that SIMB evaluates their service and makes appropriate changes. Also they need to do something about the flies - they were everywhere tonight.

Great For Breakfast

By Dawn C |

This was such a cute little neighborhood restaurant. Our breakfast was delicous! The staff was very friendly and accomodating.

Love this place

By PaulinaS |

I had brunch with my husband a week, but before we went, we did a little of search. And I was not disappointed at all. From the moment we walked in...everything was just right. The services, the attention and FOOD!!! super delicious.

Amazing PBLT & Amazing Service!!!

By Miticopuravida |

Absolutely amazing food and great atmosphere as well. Sort of an eclectic blend of people blending and eating great food. My husband and I were there on a Sunday a few weeks ago and the also had someone playing music for brunch. The wait was long. So be ready for 45 minutes to over and hour standing in a crowded space if you go on a Sunday. It is completely worth it though and you can always have a latte and a bite of sow thing from their baked goods while you wait...if you are starving ;). We will be back!!

fabulous

By babsorama6688 |

This restaurant actually is in Decatur, not a quick stop for an out-of-towner. The quiche is the best I've ever had, and the honey bacon is superb. Otherwise the menu is interesting, with many selections.

Great Eclectic Breakfast

By Timmayo |

My family and I ventured here and truly enjoyed the organic and wholesome breakfasts that we had. We each ordered something different and there were no complaints. The service was equally good.

A miss at breakfast

By R.. |

Only one place in Atlanta has a consistently good breakfast in my opinion, but occasionally we try something new just to see what else is out there. This time we tried Sun in My Belly. The menu looked promising so we ordered the pimento cheese omelette and the scrambled egg panini. Both were served lukewarm. In fact the pimento cheese in the omelette was cold. There were only 4 occupied tables and the server didn't seem busy, so this is just lazy and sloppy. Really no excuse for it. The coffee was OK. The biscuit was mediocre. We like this place for dinner but we won't go back for breakfast.

Really enjoyed eating here!

By Amanda H |

Based upon some previous reviews, was prepared for a bit of a wait with our order. Our experience was such a positive one! From start to finish, our server (Caitlin from Kansas City) was so helpful, prompt, and attentive to all of our needs. Such a pleasant and conscientious young lady! My husband & I were using a Travel Zoo voucher this past Friday night and she didn't blink twice when we presented it. She made every effort to make our evening memorable. Thank you, Caitlin, & SIMB for doing just that!

Pimento Omelette and Kirkwood Breakfast

By Alexandra S |

Really cool scenery and wasn’t crowded. The place was a little loud and the restroom situation can be problematic with only two uni-sex stalls. The Famous Alison’s Pimento Cheese omelette and Kirkwood Breakfast are their specialties. The lavender biscuit was delicious with their homemade pineapple mango jam. The portions are very filling. The coffee was from Chicago and very rich. Reasonable price and good service. However there was a power outage on our way out.. eek! Overall, very quaint and yummy breakfast stop. Would recommend

Lazy

By R.. |

Every year or so I try this restaurant again for breakfast, and every time they disappoint. The food is consistently mediocre. The potatoes are consistently served lukewarm. The dry hockey puck biscuit wasn't warm enough to melt the butter. And now, to make the experience worse, you only get cheap, flimsy plastic cutlery. This is just flat out lazy on the part of the restaurant, not to mention environmentally irresponsible. If you're going to offer dine-in service then bring out the cutlery you have stored in the back and hire a dishwasher! Otherwise, stick with takeout. I live nearby and would love to see SIMB do better, but I just can't accept a lazy restaurant. I think we're really done this time.

Truly Elegant Brunch

By carissa-bert |

My boyfriend and I have a thing for good brunch spots. We've tried brunch all over the metro-Atlanta area and this, by far, is our favorite. The decor is amazing, rustic elegance that's simple and not over the top. The wait staff is amazing and fully attentive. They've got a nice little coffee shop bar to grab a wonderfully crafted coffee before you're seated. The menu is simply divine. Everything for everyone! I'm a pescatarian, and my boyfriend loves his bacon at brunch. I had the most amazing ricotta french toast and a lavender biscuit. I'll daydream about that dish! Whether you're just passing through, or your a regular in Atlanta's amazing brunch scene, this place has to be a stop on your list.

Good experience

By Sky G |

Don't get deterred by the outside view, this restaurant is huge on the inside. Thankfully, we did not have a long wait for brunch. Parking is very limited when they are busy. This is a charming restaurant visually. The food was adequate, but unforgettable. The only thing I did not care for during our visit was when one of my friends informed the waiter that there was a huge amount of bbq sauce on his grits (see picture) and the waiter was politely dismissive. We could smell the bbq sauce around the table and it took over the whole dish. Overall it was a cordial experience.

Great meal for breakfast and lunch.

By Simon R |

Maybe the warmth in your belly is from the sun, but it is most likely the great dishes, nice atmosphere and friendly service they provide. They serve a variety of sandwiches, salads and breakfast dishes that are all outstanding. Be sure to try some of their bakery desserts (this time I had an excellent peppermint cheese cake square). Dine outside in warmer weather. Parking could be a minor issue At peak times, but worth the short walk if necessary.

EAT HERE

By Christi M |

That is all. Don't think twice :) Eat here! The biscuits to start and the bacon, fried green tomato, pimento cheese sandwich was life changing! One of the best breakfasts I've ever had!

Loved it!

By EasternShoreTraveler |

I ate here with colleagues while visiting Atlanta for business on the recommendation of a local friend. We loved it! Great food, great beer list, great service and not too pricey. Highly recommend!

A great find!

By Tamara M |

What a great find! My husband and I were in the area and decided to give this restaurant a try, we are so glad that we did. Great, relaxed atmosphere and the food was amazing. Our server was very nice and stayed on top of our order and it was appreciated. We will definitely be back the next time we are in this part of Atlanta.

Good breakfast in amazing smelling, lavender filled place

By Tasty29 |

Unusual breakfast ... in a good way. Lavender biscuits. Yummy omleta with pimentos. Very good coffee and service with a smile. Cute ...interior. Looks like it would be fun to sit outside in warmer weather. Try it!

Return visit, still delicious!

By Rhi21 |

My family and I were in Atlanta for a wedding and we made sure to come back to Sun in my Belly for brunch. The food was tasty and the service was great! We had some family with us, and it was their first time dining here and they enjoyed their meals. This trip we also had our two little ones with us and the staff was accommodating to our needs as a family.

Cute brunch place with delicious cookies

By EMDionne |

Not kidding - the chocolate chip cookies here are amazing! Perfect with a cup of tea. You can get this as soon as you walk in at the cafe. Breakfast was also delicious but know that portions are on the smaller side. My favorite was the homemade biscuit with homemade jam!

Decent food, not worth the trouble

By Tal B |

I showed up, party of 2, Sunday morning at 11am, and was pleasantly surprised to be told that the wait would be only 30 minutes. After 45 minutes and seeing people seated who had arrived after us we asked and were told that they had looked for us, and despite waiting right next to the other people that were being found and seated, "they could not find us." OK, honest mistake perhaps. Then we were seated at a table and sat for at least 10 minutes with multiple waiters walking around us, but none saying a word to us, even to say that our server would be with us shortly. I'm pretty sure no server was informed that they had a new table but eventually we gave our orders. I brushed off the initial mishaps because I was under the impression that the food would be fantastic, and while it was decent, it was far from the best in town. I had the PBLT (they were out of brioche so i had it on sourdough) and a side of brussel sprout slaw. The slaw was pretty good, nice crunch, some pistachios, but lacked a bit of brightness. The sandwich was tasty overall, pimento cheese, thick cut chewy bacon, lettuce, and fried green tomatoes. However, it was too salty, between the salty cheese, and the very salty bacon, and while some of the tomatoes were spot on, other slices were undercooked and tough. If this place was in my neighborhood, didn't require looking for parking, and didn't have a long wait, i would probably go once in a while. However, since parking is difficult, there's a wait, and it doesn't offer anything over and above other typical brunch spots, I don't see myself going back. I'd much rather wait in line for Homegrown, Ria's Bluebird, or the General Muir.

👍 Southern breakfast

By Nabaziz |

Most of us had the Benedict egg breakfast everybody loved it well done. Service was good . Atmosphere is hip/casual/comfortable.bathrooms definitely needs to be kept clean and stocked

Great breakfast

By CRLsrating |

We hand a great breakfast here. The pimento cheese omelet and Kirkwood breakfast were both very good. The service was also good. We definitely want to go back.

Nice Breakfast Outing

By kransey . |

Simple, yet good. Visited one Saturday morning, and ordered a breakfast that came with a sweet potato hash - to live for! It was GOOD. I've also had lunch here, and it wasn't bad at all...the lunch options were just not as plentiful. Even so, it was a quaint little place. Should you decide to come, I'd go for breakfast.

AMAZING food, good atmosphere, awful parking

By Miticopuravida |

AMAZING! Get the PBLT! I had never even heard of a PBLT(Pimiento, Bacon, Lettuce and Fried Green Tomato) sandwich. I had also never met ANY pimiento cheese I liked before coming to this restaurant. so, take that as you will. At any rate, there was a long wait and the parking is lacking but the food in amazing and the atmosphere is very nice as well.

Easter Brunch with the family.

By Bobby C |

I was a little worried my GPS was taking me to the wrong location. However, once I got there and received my food! WOW what an amazingly rustic and enjoyable brunch experience. The food was well above and beyond my expectation, especially because of the low prices. Everything we order was very well prepared and presented. The staff and climate were equally as nice. I will surely go there again my next visit to ATL. Heck I have even raved about it to my co-workers back here in the DC Area. Amazing brunch, simply amazing.

Meh

By Jason S |

Food was meh. Service was acceptable. It's a shame. I've been to SIMB several times before and really liked it. After this last visit, I'm not sure I'll be going back.

Fresh comfortable and a stellar surprise for area

By CBAndrewB |

Laid back comfy atmosphere in a cafe setting across from Marta tracks. Came with my brother and his wife. Surprised by place in the area. Fresh eggs and it seems like farm to table. Friendly waitstaff and very attentive. Highly recommend them.

Love the food, don't like the space

By decaturtravelgirl |

I would eat here more often if the tables weren't crammed right on top of each other and the seating were more comfortable. I sound like an old lady but these things matter! Every time I have been, the food is amazing and delicious, but I am within elbow's reach of the person at the table next to me. And the seats are really uncomfortable. It ruins the experience for me, sadly. But it is a popular place and they come in droves for brunch on the weekends, so I must be in the minority!

Great go-to restaurant

By southerngirl745 |

We've been to SIMB twice for brunch (when we brought out of town guests - perfect brunch place when you're trying to show off the city to out of towners.) We also have now been twice for dinner. Food is excellent. Atmosphere is cute. The servers are friendly and make you feel at home - sometimes restaurants in the metro area don't have friendly people working there, but at SIMB, every time we've gone, the staff have been very friendly, which goes a long way in my book. We enjoyed dinner, but I think they really shine more at brunch. For any meal, though, I think this is one of our "go-to" restaurants to take out of town guests to. Make sure to get a reservation if you are on a time-crunch. The wait for brunch or weekend dinner can be pretty lengthy without one.

The wait was worth it

By Fearless728979 |

Arrived and was told a 45 minute wait for a Sunday brunch seating. Luckily we were seated in about 25 minutes as it was a cold day and we had to wait outside. The cocktails were exceptional:our table shared sips so got to sample a variety. The honey pecan old fashioned and tequila citrus mimosa stood out in particular. The Belly Benedict was okay, but the lavender biscuits were the best. Waffles and French toast seemed to be the winning dishes in our group. Service was great and the atmosphere was joyful-a nice way to start a day :-)

Delightful dinner

By DBox13 |

We had reservations at 6:45 pm and it took a few minutes to be seated and a few extra to get get started. We were a little irritated since we had an appointment later that evening. Our server, Danielle, was wonderful. She expedited our order and made sure we were taken care of. The food was awesome! The shrimp cakes appetizer and beef short ribs were delicious! The creme brûlée was suburb! My wife and I will be back!

So-so food and not great service

By Monty S |

I have been a few times and never had a great meal or experience. Once ordered the seafood pasta special - around 7:30pm, early - and it came with only one scallop that had been cut into 4 pieces. When questioned the waiter said they were running out of the seafood. Unacceptable. Service is lacking. Slow and inattentive. Many neighborhood people love this place but I don't get it.

Memorable Anniversary Dinner

By hypatia |

My husband and I are regulars here for brunch and lunch and hadn't tried dinner until our anniversary last fall. The staff members are attentive, and the food is just wonderful. My vegetables are always perfectly cooked; but if something isn't just right, it's quickly corrected.

Still great after all these years

By Glenn R |

Been quite a while since we visited (well before Covid), but we had a most delicious brunch. Highly recommend it!

Food outstanding

By cstocker |

My friends and I tried Sun in my belly today for brunch. I was disappointed they take reservations most days except Sunday and upon arriving there was a 45 minute wait. We ended up being seated after 30 minutes. Our waiter was cordial but nothing to write home about. He didn’t write down our orders and came back after a few minutes to verify what we ordered. We had the savory French toast, the Kirkwood breakfast , and the Belly Benedict. All dishes were delicious! I even loved that they had Mighty Leaf the only bagged tea I drink. We will be back and probably arrive earlier than 12:30 or after 1:45.

Great place for brunch with a twist!!!

By Mafer1964 |

We all tried different stuff to share and try them all. We ordered: 1.Allison’s famous pimento cheese omelette: filled with honey-glazed bacon with hashed potatoes - it was excellent, we all loved it!! 2. Scrambled egg pressed panini: filled with hook cheddar + honey-glazed bacon on broche with hashed potatoes. This was excellent too. 3. Kirkwood breakfast: with softly scrambled eggs + herbed Boursin cheese with honey-glazed bacon + buttermilk biscuit. We loved it. All the dishes are pretty filling. We all had capuchinos. This is also a place to visit, it is not a fancy place by any means, but it is worth the visit. We all enjoyed it.

Amazing French toast

By ariesborne |

Love the food.... Hate the crowds. This place is very popular. Parking can be quite an issue and the line ridiculous no matter how early you get there.... However, the food is worth it.

I really enjoyed brunch here

By Jheanelle H |

The service at Sun in my belly was good minus the host who was rude. Jody was our waiter, he was very pleasant and we never ran out of anything. The food was great and I loved the decor. Sit inside you'll be in for a treat. Great overall atmosphere!

Cuba De Pie

By NuRealUTravel |

Attended an event celebrating the culture and influence of Cuba. Cuba translated by the photography of a young and upcoming photographer name Miguel Tapia. Keep an eye out for him. The night was filled with music and Cuban food and drinks. The electric Cabbage Town crowd was a buzz and the environment was fab😉

To die for!

By PieCity |

We went there on a Sunday pretty early and we didn't have to wait to be seated. We had a challah banana foster French toast and egg Benedict. Both were absolutely out of this world. The place was so quaint and cozy. We'd be back in a heartbeat.

Great place for date night!

By Kiran L |

Food was tasty and fresh; ambience is perfect for date night. Also, the service here was great! Will definitely return for brunch.

They have a rodent problem.

By Con L |

I was there for my second visit in July. Decided the food was OK but what really turned my stomach was the rat that ran through the restaurant. Yup, in broad daylight. I would guess that about 6-7 people witnessed it including the pal I was with. This was not a baby rat, kind of a bigger rat. Ran all the way from one end of the restaurant to the other. I think it bolted to the kitchen. I noticed they got a 91 from the health inspector not too long before I was there. That person should have stuck around and waited for the show to begin. I'll never step foot in the place again.

"Cloudy with a chance of rain" in my belly

By zoomaven |

While we love the updated look of the restaurant with more substantial tables and chairs, the food has taken a big hit down! I brought a friend from out of town for Sunday night fried chicken, mac n cheese and greens. I talked up the food all weekend and then our plates were delivered. It appeared that the meal had been plated and then left under heat lights to steam. The 'Crispy" chicken was soggy and the breading just slid off the unseasoned meat. The mac'n'cheese had congealed and looked greasy and tasted gritty and greasy. The greens were bitter and the juice had added to the glop on the plate. I was so disappointed! I have never had bad food here before and have been eating here for years. Sadly I won't be back.

Great food, cool vibes

By Toby |

Food (ended up liking it so much we came twice!) - Delicious food. We ordered the breakfast sandwich, omelet, and French toast and loved it all. Coffee was solid as well. - Chicken salad was great, and the slaw was especially good. Would highly recommend both. Service/Ambiance - Very covid-conscious. Staff can be forceful about masks/standing 6 feet/following their workflow. - It’s not a “sit-down” place because of covid - you order at the counter, then get a table and they drop it off. But it’s not a “restaurant” right now. - Overall cool spot, have some nice wine/drinks/small gifts as well. - Can park down the street.

Best eggs ever

By Kgzipp |

Hard to make scrambled eggs anything more than scrambled eggs... But they did. Delicious breakfast. Well be back. Probably too often.

Fun but LOUD

By LuckySpivey |

Inviting casual ambiance but hard to carry on conversation it was so loud. Food was very good. We especially enjoyed the pimento cheese omelet and the sweet potato hash browns. Staff was friendly and attentive.

Good Food! Good service!

By L J |

Had lunch with friends recently. Lots of different choices on menu.....tabbouleh, purple potato salad, lavender biscuits.... My tuna salad with dill was good - heavy on dill. Everyone enjoyed!

Excellent Vegan Food!

By SaintCharlesLinda |

Our family of well-traveled vegans/vegetarians very much enjoyed a delicious vegan lunch on a delightful deck! What a thrill to have an entire menu of vegan food from which to choose! Staff was friendly and so helpful, and all spaces were so clean and well decorated. We highly recommend Sun Belly!

Delicious original breakfast dishes

By James B |

We started with the shrimp and grits and I thought it was delicious. The shrimp were coated with barbeque sauce and served on cheesy and buttery grits, accompanied with spicy sausage and toast. I then ordered the Belly Benedict which is served on sweet potato hash browns and garlicy greens. Awesome! The greeter and our server were very friendly and we were never rushed, even though the restraurant was full and people were waiting. A terrific experience.

Hipster vibe with delicious food

By Athena N |

We went here on the recommendation of Emory students who are frequent visitors and are glad we came. In a refurbished warehouse type building, on a street where the neighborhood is gentrifying, the atmosphere inside is fun, relaxed and friendly. We had been told that there is often a line at breakfast and right at lunch time but arriving a bit later (1:30) on a Saturday we were seated right away. The service was prompt and efficient without being intrusive. There is a nice selection of breakfast, brunch and lunch items. The lavender biscuits are wonderful. Don't miss the selection of desserts on the way out- we took one to go!

Good food, loud, service a little shaky

By Paula T |

We visited this lovely place in Decatur for brunch on a weekday. We were seated right away, even though it was busy. The space is really interesting. We ordered many things--pimento BLT, pimento omelet, mac and cheese, salads. All reported their food to be tasty. The coffee was fantastic. The space makes conversation pretty impossible without yelling. And we had a child with us, and didn't really think it was that child friendly (people kept knocking into the chair she was sitting on as they walked by--and crayons would have been nice, but those were pretty small issues overall) The service was friendly though not that efficient. All in all, a worthwhile place to visit.

Not impressed at all

By Gaby S |

I believe its overrated because is the only breakfast place in the area. The coffee was good, the only thing I can say.

Wonderful, comfy spot for a gourmet breakfast

By Gayle V |

Atmosphere is very comfortable with tables for those wanting lunch or breakfast but also comfortable couches for those stopping by for a quick bite. We had breakfast for four, each having a different breakfast entree and finding each one delicious. Also, serving sizes were quite large. Lots of street parking and a small lot in the back. Wheelchair accessible. Saw some delicious looking pastries and desserts, too, although we didn’t try them.

Birthday gathering

By Mookie1019 |

My friends brought me here for my birthday and I must say that I enjoyed myself and the food. I love the home feeling of the location.

Cozy breakfast spot

By BoCoMoTiger |

Went for breakfast on a Sunday morning and it took a little work to get to SiMB from Druid Hills. We showed up a little less than 1 hour after it opened and within 30 minutes they place went from quiet to slam packed with a line to get in. All of the breakfast items were great (esp the breakfast sandwiches) and the coffee was solid. The fried green tomatoes were at best "fine" but that didn't diminish the overall experience.

Just get the Eggs.

By tuscanpro |

After waiting for well over an hour for brunch, it was LUNCH time. I ordered the "famous" meatloaf sandwich, which is over $10. I got a 1/2" slice of COLD meatloaf between 2 thick bread slices. Needless to say, I was NOT impressed. Other people were having Eggs Benedict, which looked a heck of a lot better than my plate. Should have gotten that instead, but I was so disappointed with my lunch that I never went back.

Delicious Food and Great Staff

By Tom T |

We visited the this restaurant on a night so busy that they could not even answer the phone for reservations. We decided to go any way as we had an expiring coupon that we had bought and even though it would have been within their right to refuse us they "under stress" worked us in and they where very nice about it. The food was excellent, served well at a 5 star level. The place is a bit rustic, to my liking, with an open kitchen. I had center cut pork chops beautifully prepared and my friend had the flank steak. We enjoyed this meal and will return as soon as possible.

unique

By Ramblin1947 |

This is a unique place near Decatur. The place is cozy and comfortable. The food is very good. the menu is fresh seasonal. My friends who do not usually eat vegetable's cleaned their plates. We also had an excellent server. The manager also came by several times to check to us> A great night out

Good, but definitely not exciting as we were led to expect.

By Ruhu61 |

We came here expecting excellence and found competence. The setting, rustic but pleasant, though the room we were in looked like they were prepping it for a badly needed paint job. No fresh squeezed OJ, which surprised me. Coffee was burned, and it took a while to get water refills. The lox and bagel were fine, though we had to ask for tomato (a standard, you would think). The pimento/bacon etc. sandwich was good, though on uninteresting bread and served with potatoes that should have been crisp and tasty and were, instead, bland and soft.

Slow service, but good food

By Andrea A |

Went on a Saturday morning for breakfast with fiancé. It seemed busy, but we were seated within 5-10 minutes. I had the Challah French Toast and he had The Belly Benedict. Both were very delicious. The French Toast was just the right amount of sweet, and was filling but not too filling. Our waiter did take a while to get it us (ordering, checking on us). I also had ordered coffee at the beginning of our visit and didn't get it until our meal was almost done. At first, it was because they were making fresh coffee, but then I saw other guests getting coffee after me. Once the server realized that I didn't have coffee, he brought some over and said it was on the house. I like to have coffee before breakfast, so that kind of sucked.

Breakfast adventure

By Tampasunburnt |

Great food, great service and a cool atmosphere! Very nice selection of vegetarian choices too. Relaxing but can be a great date location as well.

Skip Yo Mama ASYG!

By Renman2011 |

How good is the biscuit is a great gauge of breakfast joints. Get the Kirkwood Breakfast for these (3) reasons: 1) outstanding biscuits; 2) the serving of jam you will lick out of the cup after biscuit is gone; and 3) they make their own bacon and it is the best I have ever had.

Now one of my "favorites!" for breakfast

By Mark G |

We found this delightful little restaurant near downtown Decatur (Atlanta). The pimento cheese BLT with a fried egg was gastric joy! My wife enjoyed an omelet with pimento cheese, fresh veggies, and herbed potatoes. Add in the delightful decor in an old hardware store, and it is a place I will definitely enjoy again. And again....

Fun Place To Dine

By GuyFromAtlanta_GA |

This was a return visit for us. We noticed some improvements in the décor and furniture. We both had the grilled meatloaf, our usual, but this time they were too heavy on the blue cheese and it was overwhelming. Likewise on the spices in the collard greens - a bit much. Otherwise we enjoyed the atmosphere and excellent service. We will certainly return.

culinary delight

By Jean Q |

This is one of Atlanta's hidden little secrets. It is a lovely restaurant that is in the building of an old hardward store and is transformed very nicely into a wonderful restaurant. The food is amazing, I can't recommend anything in particular, because I have never had a mediocre meal, they have always been wonderful!

Delicious brunch!

By Betkeys |

Sooo many delicious sounding items from which to choose. At our server’s recommendation I choose the French toast with bananas foster topping. It was fabulous! Everyone in my party thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Our server was very attentive. Coffee was great.

Great food, odd location

By Kelly1125 |

My nieces lived in downtown for 2 years while attending college and found this place through social media. Upon their recommendation, our family went here for brunch on a Saturday. Very crowded with little space to sit and wait inside. We actually had to wait outside on the sidewalk. If I hadn't spotted my family standing outside I might have missed the restaurant. Their sign on the building is average size but the lettering is so small you can't read it from a distance. The building is an old hardware store and looks "cuter" from the outside than the inside. The décor on the inside is cute but space is a little cramped. They do have a small seating area out front on the patio. They do have a menu in the window visible from outside which allowed us an opportunity to decide what we wanted while we waited. You could see through the window a chalkboard with a sandwich, quiche and soup of the day. Inside, seating appeared to be all wooden folding chairs and padded benches - again cute and comfortable enough. Beverages, except hot coffee, were served in Mason jars. No tablecloths, just brown paper pulled off a roll and draped across the table. Again, cute and different. Everything on the menu sounded so delicious it was a tough choice. I chose the pimento cheese/bacon omelet over the honey ricotta stuffed French toast. My omelet was served with "hashed potatoes" but don't expect hash browns or what some people refer to as home fries which are usually fried potatoes. Some of the dishes that my family had were the PBLT (pimento BLT, scrambled egg Panini and some kind of noodle bowl. Service was good - kept our water and coffee filled and dirty dishes didn't stay on the table long.

delicious eats

By livelife h |

I was introduced to place by Atl Buger Week and went back for brunch. I haven't been dissapointed either time. Great Burger options along with brunch options. The honey glazed bacon and the lavender biscuit are my favorites.

Delightful evening outside on College Avenue

By GaLaura |

SIMB is always a delightful experience. The food is imaginative and the wines are good. 3/4 of our party of 6 really enjoyed their food. The salmon was delicious as was the pork chop, but the stars are the salads. I loved the lucy which I believe is new to SIMB. Two of our party were so so on their dinners, the lamb, but the rest raved. It is a goto place, especially when they have a good Scoutmob to use. Best value in town!

Overpriced for what you get and made me sick

By Sophia GM |

The food was decent. I got the Kirkwood breakfast and my boyfriend got the croque monsieur. We both agreed that the food was far overpriced for what we received, underwhelming, and something we could have easily done ourselves. I said it was something a grandparent would make for breakfast if you came to visit. Not bad at all, but not worth so much money, especially when served on paper plates with plastic forks. Our total order was $54, our main dishes being $11 each. However, instead of my original 3 star review, I have to give this place a 2, since my stomach hurts so much right now, and this place is the only explanation as it is all I have eaten today. Do not recommend.

Great restaurant

By efl215 |

My husband and I have been to Sun in My Belly twice. We had groupons each time. Great restaurant. I recommend making a reservation at the weekend as it quickly gets filled. Atmosphere very nice and relaxing. Food great. My only problem is that the signage outside the restaurant doesn't say Sun in my Belly! We drove around for quite a while looking for the location. The signage outside is from years ago - something about hardware. I think they should put a sign up so people can actually find the restaurant

Catering top notch

SIMB catered my recent (large) birthday party. The food was excellent and the service staff professional. Highly recommend them for your event. I received many compliments on the food from my guests

Overrated is an understatement

By Paul K |

I see the charm in the space, in the quirky menu and in the people-watching. However, none of the four brunch entrees were very satisfying. The meatloaf is good but the rest of the dish disappointed. The PBLT was lame but worse were the potatoes on the side. The napoleon complex was tiny but at least the brussel-slaw was tasty. The omelette of the day was no big thrill. Glad to have finally tried it but I see no need to ever go back.

UNAPPRECIATIVE STAFF

By PJWhiteRabbit |

Save the FAKE apology that would only be for your review readers because the blonde guy that yelled at me was in NO way apologetic or regretful in the way he addressed me. Finding this place online - we arrived to find that it was not a sit down order at the table kind of place.  We accepted that and stood in line to place our order. There were about 2 parties and one pre-ordered to-go order in front of us so it took a bit of time before placing the order.  Not a problem, and quite acceptable.  We ordered two breakfast meals and 2 drinks (overpriced $5 12oz latte) and our total was $36.  Feeling bad for restaurants  these days due to the whole COVID thing I have been giving generous gratuities.  I generally don't give 20% to a place where I was not waited on fully, but I did here.  We paid after ordering but before our food was ready due to their set up.  They gave us a number and told us that they would bring our food out to our table.  We sat outside and they brought our drinks to our table first, and later our food (2 trips).  I was done with my tiny beverage by the time the food came, and therefore wanted some water to drink.  I went inside and made gestures and verbalized to the blond guy indicating I wanted some water.  He made gestures (no words) to come around and get in line.  The line was much longer than what we waited through, and I knew that my food would be cold by the time I got a glass of water.  I went back out to finish my food.  One of the staff (female) came out to deliver food to another table.  I asked her if she could get me a glass of water.  She said, "We are counter service only" as she walked back inside.  I went back inside and the line was still super long.  I walked up to the counter and asked another staff member if I could just get some water.  The blond guy chimed in and loudly stated that I would need to get in line and that they were counter service only.  I loudly replied that I already ordered food and just wanted some water.  He said that if I wanted anything else that I would have to just get in line again.  I again said that all I wanted was water.  He yelled at me and said, "Mam, would do this at Taco Bell?!"  I said that I try to support local places, and mentioned that I gave a 20% gratuity.  At this time one of the girls was telling him, "I'll just get her some water".  I stormed out, sat down and began to choke down what food I could before I just left angrily.  One of the girls brought me some water during that time.  I have to say that considering that they bring your food and drinks to your table does NOT make you a counter service only establishment.  You can't have it both ways.  BTW...As a test...I DID walk into a Taco Bell, walked straight up to the counter without getting in the line, and asked for a cup of water.  GUESS WHAT?  They gave it to me without any fuss, and I never even ordered any food there!!!! The food was fine, but not worth it in the end. The food might have tasted better to me had I been treated better. My husband liked his breakfast sandwich just fine.

love the atmospehere

Great customer service and perfect atmosphere. i absolutely LOVE the bacon here!! I must admit parking may be a challenge

Great food.

By mreesebryan |

You can't beat the dinner for 2 deal with local coupons. Hummus is good. Meatloaf with tomato jam is my favorite. The men loved the pork chop. My only complaint is the restaurant is getting too loud. I felt we were almost yelling to talk to friends across the table. Service was fine but don't ask me how my food is if I just received it and don't even have my fork in my hand!!! Give me a minute please.

Great lunch with a wonderful atmosphere!

My daughter and I ate lunch outside at Sun in My Belly. The atmosphere was fantastic. Our waitress was very friendly and informative of the menu. I ate the PBLT. Delicious!

Funky Chic with Good Food Thrown into the mix

By Alanl1181 |

I took my two kids to Sun In My Belly a couple weeks ago. We got there a little late so we had to wait about 15 minutes for Sunday's Brunch. There are three rooms there. Each one different from the other. Clearly whoever decorated the place had a good time. It's got all kids of neat stuff hanging all over the place and if your looking for matchy matchy in the chairs you're in the wrong place. We were seated in a window and had the opportunity to look around. My daughter and I had coffee and my granddaughter had hot cocoa. I didn't mention that the server was very helpful and had a real smile on her face. In fact every employee scurrying around the joint was smiling. Nice. The menu is reasonably priced and the food is solid. My granddaughter who can be a little fussy about food gobbled up most of her French Toast which should have come stuffed with ricotta cheese and topped with carmalized bananas in a delicious glaze and maple syrup just in case there wasn't enough sugar in the dish. She ate almost everything and even had 1/2 of my bagel. My daughter and I had omelettes which were cooked perfectly and the fillings were flavorful. The only misstep was my fault. I should have had the biscuit instead of a bagel. Which are hard to keep well if their not turned pretty quickly. Again my fault I know better, but hey, I was hankering for a bagel. The check took awhile to get to us but by now they were cranking. So, you can't fault that. Would I go again. Hell yah! Next time I'd like to try a lunch or dinner.

Sooooo good

By RaeAnne |

This place was amazing! Me and my friend loved ittt. The food was really good, the waitress suggested splitting the French toast so me and my fiend ordered one to split and each got two sides. The French toast is 2 but pieces, you could easily share it as long as you get additional food to eat. We went on a Sunday and it was busy but we were seated right away, PSA you can’t get alcohol ( mimosa ) until 11 am. They have indoor and outdoor seating, as well as bathrooms. Wasn’t super expensive, decent priced. Only complaint is parking, you have to find street parking and most likely end up parking at the side street in front of someone’s house.

Late Lunch on a hot day!

By Terri V |

This is my 2nd visit with my daughter who lives in Atlanta. We were in the area on the way to the farmers market and thought we'd grab something to eat at a place we knew. We arrived between 2:40-2:45 and upon entering we were immediately told "THE KITCHEN CLOSES at 3pm". Not exactly the best way to greet customers because clearly the door was unlocked and we walked right in. My daughter questioned the "greeter" as to whether or not we would be served or should we leave and the short answer was "if you can order in 15 minutes". There wasn't a crowd waiting and we were pleasantly escorted to a table by a friendly waiter. Took all of 5-7 minutes for us to order with extra minutes to spare! THANKFULLY the food was delicious. I ordered the Napoleon Complex with the Brussels Sprout Slaw. My daughter ordered the MLT with a side order of the Purple Potato Salad. BOTH were delicious! We also ordered 3 of their home made Lavender Biscuits which we warmed for breakfast the next morning and spread them generously with the whipped butter and fruit spreads provided with our take out. Clearly the FOOD did not disappoint and our waiter was friendly and attentive. Only suggestion would be to re-train the "greeter" as to how she should approach those arriving close to the lunch/dinner break as they close for dinner set up and we were not aware of that when we thought to travel there for lunch. We will return because the food is delicious and the atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming.

Great little place

By Jeremy |

Great little find with this place. I had heard so many great things about Sun In My Belly, and it didn't disappoint. It's in an odd location that seems to be a mix of old residential homes and run down businesses, but I felt very safe. I had a unique opportunity to have breakfast and lunch there on the same day. Breakfast was very good. They didn't serve a lot of food, but they didn't skimp either. Lunch was just ok, but I only ordered a tuna sandwich. The salad that accompanied it was decent. All in all, it's a great little place that's with a visit.

Can cook!

By Jame C |

We found this restaurant in a local directory and braved Friday night traffic to make the six mile 34 minute journey from Buckhead Atlanta to this location. The restaurant is located in a former hardware store and has no physical charm but rather a shabby chic interior and a barely readable sign. Parking is difficult, no valet, small lot and some of the neighborhood sketchy. However once inside the greeting is warm and the service and food way beyond expectation. Our server, food runner, hostess, and table cleaner all spoke excellent English (unusual in Atlanta restaurants) and seemed genuinely interested in our enjoyment of the evening. Live background music was an added treat and was not so loud as to preclude conversation. Now to the food. We dined on Miso Salmon and Mountain trout served respectively on beds of braised kale with quinoa, and mashed potato with braised leeks. Both dishes were excellent served very hot and adequate portions. Before the entre we enjoyed the savory crab cake and the Naan bread with crab cheese spread. After dinner strong coffee and a warm slice of strawberry pie with whipped cream made a fantastic meal to this foodie outing. Wines by the glass are a generous pour and the beer list is long. We are definitely going back.

PBLT and shrimp and grits

By David C |

Great place for lunch. Came here on Sunday and waiter recommended the PBLT (Pimento cheese, bacon, fried green tomato and lettuce). I got the fried egg add on and it may have been best sandwich ever. Very messy. But really good! My wife got the shrimp and grits and said it was equally amazing. Great atmosphere and we were able to get seat no problem at 12:30. It was busy but the device was excellent. Will definitely come back!

Good food / reasonable prices

By etonea |

Food was pretty good - coconut braised mussels to start, cocoa encrusted short ribs with shaved brussel sprouts and Parmesan mashed potatoes, flank steak with chimichurri, cauliflower mash and sautéed spinach, and chocolate mousse with strawberry cake. Pretty wide selection of beers and wines. Everything was reasonably priced (for Atlanta). The space is sorta cool with lots of reused items on display and in use. The negatives - service is a bit strange with lots of different people involved, dining area can get really loud, and nobody is in any kind of rush (which can be construed as bad or good). I would recommend trying this place out and I do want to come back for breakfast/brunch (and dinner).

Good food, great service

By Travellerfrannie |

Warm and welcoming local restaurant. Menu has plenty of choice and our server offered good suggestions, which proved successful. As a visitor to Atlanta I was keen to try local fare. The fried chicken with greens and mash was delicious. My local friend enjoyed delicious short ribs. We shared dessert of pineapple cake. Worth trying. I hear breakfast is good- Local feedback.

Sun in my belly, rain cloud over my car

By kortneyyvonne |

So before you leave this review and assume the worst about this establishment, please don't; I have taken some time in truly contemplating not just what I wanted to say, but how to phrase it such that a reader can fairly consider whether or not a visit to SIMB is worthwhile. First, let me say that I have visited SIMB on two occasions within a two week span. The first occasion was a surprise graduation party that was thrown for me and the second was at the suggestion of my friend who attended the party and loved the food so much that she was ready for a second go at their shrimp and grits. Second, allow me to say that I, too, enjoyed my first experience and readily obliged; my food was great (pimiento cheese omelette with grits and GF toast with butter and blackberry jam!) and the prices were fair. I also think that it is important to mention that SIMB caters to the GF diet--with GF bread, an important distinction to make considering that most restaurant's version of GF friendly fare borders along the lines of "without this, without that." I was truly able to substitute carbs and the wait staff is knowledgeable. Score and goal for the GF minded and celiac (which I am)! So all in all, seems like a no brainer, right? So why the score of three Trip Advisor dots and not five, you ask...parking or lack thereof. And here's where the rubber meets the road, or more precisely, where tires met the cold, unforgiving metal ramp and chain of a tow truck 😞 Allow me to explain: parking is an issue. SIMB has very limited parking for their establishment and street parking on the main thoroughfare (College Ave. near Agnes Scott) is almost impossible to get unless you park a minimum of 2-3 blocks away. Couple this with the fact that there are also several other restaurants/businesses in the same few blocks that also have limited parking and, well, you get the point. So what's a hungry person to do? Find street parking at the entrance to the adjacent neighborhood, but on the side of the business. Now, I'm the first one to get feisty if some random, disrespectful person blocks my driveway and I can be a bit territorial if someone parks in front of my house. However, on this particular occasion, the neighbors of the recently gentrified neighborhood of Kirkwood took things way too far by continuing to dial 9-11, forcing the APD to not only ticket MANY cars, but also tow them. Restaurant goers found themselves suddenly silenced by a verbal announcement from management stating that cars parked on the side of their business had either been towed or was being towed as she spoke. Amidst the mass exodus, I found myself staring at my car being harnessed to a tow truck. Everyone else's car was already gone. I won't bore you with the details of the resolution to this nightmare. But I will point out that there was not appropriate signage to indicate that both sides of the entire street were tow away zones or that the tow zone extended past the corner of College and the side street (don't recall the name) nor did SIMB post signage saying that patrons should be aware of where they park. As an aside, SIMB does little in terms of signage anyway since its name isn't visible from the street. So, essentially, my estimation of the establishment, all things considered, plummeted to what would have been a well-deserved five dot to three. What good is making plans to go to a fantastic restaurant when one is not sure if they can get "legal" parking, if they even know where the legal parking is? $250+ can never justify a satisfying and reasonably priced meal, even if it is delicious, GF friendly, and enjoyed with family and friends. My advice? Try going at a slow time or if your willing to take public transportation, East Lake train station is a few blocks walk. As for me and my car, I think we'll skip it in future--unless they introduce valet. What a shame... To SIMB--my friends and family who had been there before as well as those who had heard about it (because we did rave of your yumminess to everyone) are loath to return/try you out. I like to support small and non-chain restaurants. Please help me and others put you back on the "good" list. Many other of your patrons weren't happy either.

Brunch

By Marann Emmy R |

I've been meaning to get in here after seeking a catering quote for a client. My husband had a Dr appt nearby, so I was finally close. He had the Scrambled Egg Pressed Panini with potatoes and he loved it. I had: Spicy Bloody Mary - Excellent. MLT (Mozzarella, lettuce {arugula, actually. Waaaay better than lettuce} tomato, on grilled sourdough - Fantastic. Tabbouleh - Good. Brussels Sprout Slaw - Y'all. I would have come for this. Absolutely perfect.

Worth searching for parking

By MichelleB5 |

Eggs Benedict with Salmon!! French Toast with Honeyed Ricotta, DREAMY Service good We really enjoyed the atmosphere and will hurry back for Brunch soon

An absolute must try!

By mrshope_ful |

This quaint place has amazing food. Vegan options, vegetarian options, and a glazed bacon must have for the meat eaters. The Brussel sprout slaw was a refreshing spin on slaw, very fresh. The lavender biscuits and apple butter were amazing, sadly you only get one for $2.xx. They also have adult “capri sun” pouches.

How can you not like a place called "Sun in My Belly"

By Keega16 |

We actually waited (30 minutes) to eat here and I never do that! You can get coffee while you wait and there are some couches and benches. My daughter is obsessed with the Lavendar Biscuits and that is what prompted the visit. They were very good. I had a Kirkwood breakfast which featured AMAZING scrambled eggs with Boursin cheese. My daughters granola parfait was beyond any other that I have seen/tried. Fresh fruits, homemade granola, coconut flakes. It was divine. They serve alcoholic capri sun type drinks. We didn't get to have them this time, but I know a lot of people that would be excited by that.

A great place for a celebration or family dinner

By LulieATL |

Sun in My Belly is charming! The food was delicious and the atmosphere added an extra touch to dinner. Dessert was a perfect ending to the meal.

By Kathy S |

Great little place for a hearty breakfast. Good coffee, nice menu. Had the croque monsieur with fried potatoes and it was very filling. Establishment adds 15% service charge so make sure you know that when finalizing the bill.

Busy Sunday, but gaps in service and food

By Flyeguy |

We often go to Sun in My Belly and know that weekends are busy. That was expected. However, what was not expected were some of the basics that were not taken care of. Salt and pepper shakers that would not pour and coffee that was luke warm until about the third pass of the pot when it was finally hot. Special Omelette was not that special and could have been made at home. Dining out should be an experience and pleasurable. Today I feel that Sun in my Belly was mediocre at best and not up to their past offerings.

Great neighborhood spot for the veggie oriented

We really enjoyed our meal here. Each of the 3 of us had different meals and everyone was very pleased. Bean burger was quite tasty. Nice beer & wine selection. Excellent service.

Nice atmosphere. Good beer and wine selection. Was expecting more based on other reviews...maybe brunch is better.

My Favorite Restaurant

By Cryss L. |

Vibey restaurant in quaint neighborhood. The menu is delicious. Parking is not so great. Service has always been good. I have never been disappointed.

Excellent Food & Service

By Lanie S |

My husband and I have now been here multiple times. . .the food and service have always been excellent. The menu is eclectic : ranging from seafood entrees a foodie would love, to steak with all the fixings, to fried chicken with macaroni and cheese and collard greens, to hamburger. . We and others we have gone with have always had absolutely delicious food and attentive/professional service. Decor is bohemian. Parking behind the restaurant is limited, but ample on-street parking is readily available. Dinner prices are mid-range and very reasonable for value received, but with a scout mob coupon the value is fantastic. The one potential problem is no separate seating for large parties, so the noise level can be high if you are seated next to a large family or office celebration.

Outstanding food!

By Alan R |

We had time to kill, so the 40-minute wait for a table was not a problem. Once we were seated, the staff was attentive without being stifling. Looking around, though, the place had lots of empty tables, leading me to think they were understaffed. Our server recommended the PBLT which one of us ordered and raved about. Others had the challah French toast and enjoyed it very much. I had the Kirkwood breakfast, and it was delicious. Why did I withhold one green dot in my rating? They were understaffed which slowed service. They were out of the grilled chicken. I definitely would go back, though. The food, atmosphere, and service were terrific!

Great experience, very good food and nice atmosphere for a reasonable price

By Igorek007 |

We ate brunch and we really liked it. Waiter told us 3 most popular dishes. PBLT and The Belly Benedict were good. French Toast was very good as well. Great experience for a very reasonable price. I would recommend this place,

Great little spot

By Nate E |

My wife and I stopped in for breakfast. Really it was simply a great spot, with great food and service. We sat outside with our small dog. They were very accommodating and the other patrons were very nice. We will definitely be back.

So wholesome!

By 2happi |

This is now one of my favorite breakfast stops! Unassuming exteriors but don't be fooled...the food is GREAT! Had the Kirkwood breakfast-scrambled eggs, biscuit & bacon each prepared so different from the run of the mill. The French toast was oohh so good-stuffed with cheese and covered with loads of fruit. A side of grits and you are so stuffed! Can't wait to go back to try the other good choices. Our server Aliya made me the best hot chocolate this side of Atlanta!

Great place for brunch, great for dinner too

By jdalegonzalez |

My family has been to Sun in My Belly for brunch numerous times and the experience is always the same. The wait is long. Like every good Atlanta brunch place, the place is slammed. The service is fine - nothing to write home about but tolerable and the food is excellent. Last week, for the first time we tried SiMB for dinner and loved it. The food is wonderful. The menu is limited but tasty. The deserts are fantastic. In addition, maybe because they've expanded, maybe because they weren't slammed the service was fantastic. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and just the right amount of attentive for a couple on a date.

Wanted to love it, but....

By centerground |

We really wanted to love SIMB as it’s near home and we love the physical space; warm, rustic and appealing artwork on the walls. We were happy to wait for a table, but not the 45 minute wait for our meal, which came out cool and wrong in 3 ways: salty, missing item and missing substitution. Thankfully our waitress did right by us so we didn’t suffer twice, and the biscuit and strong coffee were good. Lastly, the staff didn’t seem to work well together and the restrooms were filthy. We’ll try this venue again because it’s in our hood and want to love it- some day.

AMAZING!

By AmyLeAnn30 |

Everything we ate at Sun in My Belly was absolutely delicious. I had the PbLT. It was so good. The cheese grits were much better than the potato hash so I would recommend subbing a side. The facility was clean and the servers very knowledgeable

Good quality, interesting food

By exaavb |

Sun in My Belly always has a few menu choices that are quite interesting. On this visit, I had "Savory French Toast", which had portobello mushrooms in a savory sauce, with (somehow) spinach and parmesan cheese, and it was quite good. My son had the shrimp and grits, also good, although I think the BBQ sauce was a bit strong. Other than the room being quite noisy when full, my only complaint is that the coffee was surprisingly pedestrian; I sent back my first cup because it seemed dull, and the replacement was not much better. In an artsy/quirky place like this, I expect interesting/decent/memorable coffee, and this came up short.

Best Brunch in town

By Lisa S |

In town on business and had the best brunch EVER! From omelets to the fried green BLT to the kale salad, everything is fresh, made to order and plenty to choose from. We even enjoyed Mimosa's and red velvet cupcakes too! Loved every bite and wish we could find a place like this at home. If you haven't been yet DO TRY IT! You won't want to leave!

Interesting

By William G |

I had a work meeting here in February 2019...it was recommended by a friend of a friend...the waiter suggested the omelette of the day (i think that's what he called it) and the way he described it let me know that I didn't need to look further at the menu...I choose a biscuit as a side item and added cheese grits to the order...it took longer than i expected but I understand about the busyness and the server came by plenty of times to check on us...the food was good and next time I'll get the french toast because it looked delicious...the price was a BIT more than I expected an omelette to be but it tasted good so it was worth it.

Amazing brunch

By Daryl P |

Ate here on both Saturday and Sunday for brunch, it was so good we had to go back for another round. The staff is all super cheery and helpful, which added greatly to the wonderful experience. All the food is fresh and delicious, the honey bacon that they only make on weekends hit the spot! Great atmosphere and everything was on point

More Interesting for Some People than Others

By DrCharls |

This is a fusion of Mediterranean mid-eastern with southeastern U.S. It is possibly of more interest to the younger Decaturites wherein it is located than to some of us old fogeys who love to sink our teeth into a good bite of solid food. We had a large group arriving at noontime and were seated immediately at one long table and had adequately good service thruout the meal. I had the meatloaf sandwich with mac & cheese. The mac & cheese was dry and only slightly cheesy. The meatloaf sandwich was also dry and nowhere as flavorful as the menu description. However, several of my friends had the shrimp & grits and all said that they were excellent. Another friend who had been there before got the Brussels sprouts salad which she always gets because she says it's the best. Several other friends ordered the pimento cheese omelette which comes with honey-glazed bacon and hashed potatoes, and they all enjoyed their meal, especially the honey-glazed bacon.

Heavenly breakfast

By shelbee67 |

Four of us had breakfast here Saturday. We arrived early, around 9:30, so being seated was no problem. Each breakfast item was delicious, my favorite being the pimento and bacon filled omelet. Service was prompt and friendly. We would come back to try more, including lunch and dinner.

Why have I not been here before ?!

By simonathome |

Went early to avoid the crowd. Belly Benedict was absolutely delicious and uncommon with the sweet potato and bacon base - Biscuit was not light but heavier , yet very tasty and perfectly complimented by the butter and jam that accompanied. Nice selection on the menu and friendly servers. A bit off our beaten track but well worth the trip. You will not be sorry you went !

Cozy food

By Caprystar |

My wife wanted to cheer me up after my procedure. We ended up at SIMY since we had talked about it for a while. It wasn't pack inside, most of the patrons ate outside. The service was friendly and timely and the food was pretty good.

Was hoping for a better experience

By Joe D |

Four of us just had dinner. Great location and ambiance but average food and service. Extremely noisy. Could not hear each other, nor the waiter. I would not recommend the Pressed meatloaf sandwich. The mashed potatoes were very good. I'm not in a hurry to go back.

Nice neighborhood eatery

By Billy_Whimwa |

One of my favorite southern style restaurants. The casual and cozy seating is nice. Parking is limited so may need to park down street a bit.

Great food, but terrible service

By Michael W |

We have been to this restaurant before, and always had a great experience. This time the service overshadowed the food. We ordered wine. Then we ordered salads. The salads came, but not the wine. After complaining, the wine showed up. They were out of the trout on the menu, so they substituted it with scallops. After three of us ordered scallops, they came back and said they were out of scallops. This was a Sunday evening, not on the busy weekend nights They gave no explanations for the service. I will not be back anytime soon.

Good food at a fair price

Great place for brunch. Nice place to hang out with very good service and creative; delicious take on comfort food.

really, really, good food.

tight quarters, service just slightly less than excellent but still good. the parking is the real challenge. You might have to walk a ways. HOWEVER, the food makes up for it all. Awesome eats.........clearly fresh and homemade.

Ok food....

I've read quite a few good reviews and wanted to try Sun in my Belly. We went for breakfast and I can't honestly say I'll be back. The food was OK. The service was not great. The prices were high. I can think of other places I'd prefer to go for breakfast.

2 tries you're out

Tried Bfast and Lunch. Neither any big deal. Maybe it's the menu. Went back for 2nd time because of all the hype. Nope, Just Not That Good.

Lovely ambiance, good food

By K R |

Love the ambiance of the place, the inside is so quaint. The food is good, they are flexible on substitutions which is nice. The coffee could be stronger. Overall a lovely breakfast place.

Tasty food, but way too noisy for us, portion sizes were small and price for that portion was high

Went there for a Sunday brunch. VERY noisy. Food is good, but small portions / higher prices than we'd have thought.

Rustic and Elegant Place

By Donna A |

My husband and I discovered Sun in My Belly through Travelzoo. We bought a $39 dinner for two deal. Dinner at Sun in My Belly was one of the most enjoyable meals we had on our trip to Atlanta. As we were led to our table by the host, I was delighted by the antique cabinet with old books, mason jars, and shiny ladles where tables for two were situated. My husband who rarely comments on ambience appreciated it, too. He loved that The Monkeys music played throughout our dinner. The food was very good. I loved my arugula salad with walnuts, blue cheese, poached pear, and champagne vinaigrette dressing. Hubby equally enjoyed his wedge salad. For entrée, I chose the pork chop with roast sweet potatoes and spinach. The pork was cooked just right. Some of the cubed sweet potatoes were too al dente, but I didn't mind it. It provided a bit of crunch to my meal. The other half ordered fried chicken with mac n cheese, and greens. He loved it! The deal included either wine or beer for each of us. I'm not much of a drinker, so my husband took the opportunity to try a couple of beers on offer. I was okay with ginger ale and coffee. Finally, for my favorite part of the meal - dessert! It couldn't be anything else, but chocolate cake. It was just the way I like it - moist, a bit dense, not too sweet, and chocolatey. Yum! I have to mention the friendly and excellent service. The personnel were attentive and helpful. We loved our experience at Sun in My Belly. My husband and I are definitely going back when we are in Atlanta.

Love it!

By Jessie E |

I've been coming here for a while and I absolutely love it! It's a really casual, comfy, bright, and open atmosphere with great staff and great food. I come here alone during my breaks between tutoring classes and it is so nice to just grab my book and hang out.

Terrific, unexpected, & delicious! Well worth the trip

By david554 |

One very pleasant, delicious meal with a birthday person too! Sometimes the food is better than the service and some times the service is better than the food ...Yet once in a while it all comes together in a perfect meal...this was The perfect meal. If the service was any more pleasant I would have taken our server home. She was super. The meal tended to be slow but every thing is cooked fresh. My Kirkwood breakfast (for dinner) was lightest buttery eggs, hashed red potatoes with vegs. and bacon and sausages. A nice Claret too. My spouse had a beautiful presentation of a walnut salad and some of our guests had bacon, chicken sausage Mac and cheese. They liked it a lot. All in all, this is a place to take your boss, your best friends in town for a trip, your loving relatives that you want to treat to a tasty, lovingly prepared feast. The portions were not big but very rich and quite filling. I carried out 3 shopping bags. Best meal in a year of eating.

Delicious

By panpanda |

Delicious, but grilled chicken sandwich was long on bread with very little meat. Brussel sprout cold slaw was unique and tasty. My dining companion enjoyed the pimento cheese omelet and fried potatoes. Excellent service. Parking is a problem so be patient.

Used to enjoy coming to SIMB.

By hammy2016 |

Used to enjoy coming to SIMB. But the customer service has gone down the drain. They loose all customer service when they get busy. I used to love it so kept coming even after bad experience. But won’t be doing that anymore. The staff becomes rude when they’re busy. They need to hire more kitchen staff and waiting staff. Or start taking reservations so you can keep it manageable if your kitchen can’t take the extra load!

Danielle and Coach provided an excellent dining experience. Danielle in the front of the house lended outstanding service and Coach furnished delicious food. Short Ribs, Salmon, Mussels, Pork Chops and yes Fried Chicken in form of the airline chicken breast. If you get anything the cous cous is a must. ENJOY

My oh my, what have we found here?

By hd0bs0n |

What a treat! So happy to have come here for brunch. Upon walking in the front door, you are in the kitchen. Turn left, and there are several dining rooms. Wait staff is very efficient as well as aware of their patrons needs. My daughter and I each had the Challah French Toast (the best I've ever had). If you choose to visit this gem, be forewarned that others have heard of Sun in my Belly and they like it too! We arrived at 10:30 and were seated immediately. Parking is LIMITED...be prepared to park and walk. Well worth the trek.

More hype average food!!

I would probably give 3 1/2 stars to this place. This is away from the hustle/bustle of the city and has a unique setting right next to Marta line with outdoor as well as indoor seating. When there for brunch on Sunday. Place was crowded and had 30 minutes waiting. Ordered orange juice which I expected to be freshly squeezed but it was straight out of bottle. Egg Benedict was a disappointment. My omelette with bacon was good. Service was slow and waiter seemed to forget things. We had asked for creamer for the tea and it took a while and couple Reminders to get it. Overall I was not impressed with the quality of food and service. However like the atmosphere of this restaurant. Considering quality vs cost , in my opinion the prices are on the higher side.

Expectations were high, delivery was disappointing

We were looking for alternative good breakfast places and decided to try Sun in My Belly. I've passed it many times and always noted that it was crowded, so the food must be good. The music was VERY loud and when asked to turn it down, they did. Coffee was great, no problem there. When I asked (and should not have had to ask if the waiter was attentive) for a refill and thanked him, his response was 'no problem' as if I was bothering him; the correct response from a waiter is 'you are welcome' or 'my pleasure'. The food was OK, but for $9.95, two strips of bacon, scrambled eggs and a biscuit, it seemed to be excessively priced. Then the coup de grace was when the check was paid, the waiter debited my account for someone else's bill for $62+ instead of our charges which were for $25+. When pointed out, he said he would fix it and ran my debit for the correct amount. But, I had to ask for the credit receipt showing that it had been credited back to my account, as he forgot to bring it. Management needs to train their servers with proper customer service. The proper response to the incorrect bill should have been 'I am so sorry sir - I will make this right for you, I don't know how that happened and it will never happen again'. Granted, the place was busy, but with proper training, and a willingness to provide a good experience for customers, waiters can still be busy and serve everyone in a way that will make them want to come back. However, in this case, we won't be back again!

Great place with great people, great smells & brunch!

We waited for a bit and then sat down. There were six of us. The fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese were excellent. The biscuits were great. There is a bar just inside the door where you can get mimosa, beers, wines, drinks, etc. The big breakfast sandwich on the brioche bread is delicious and there were a bunch of other great-looking options. The outside and the area (complete with train tracks overhead) don't really tell you what's inside. Check it out.

Great family spot

By wlsachs |

We had not been there in several years. But a family gathering in Atlanta called for a return visit. We were very pleased. Children enjoyed hamburgers and ravioli. Adults were animated about the quality of the grilled salmon. There is a relaxed atmosphere and a small bake shop, from which giant chocolate chip cookies became dessert. There were more sighs of delight. a very fine evening topped off by low-key, warm service.

Excellent brunch and dinner

By Kimberly C |

Tried it for dinner after the write up in the AJC. Excellent food and loved it so much, we went back for brunch the following week. Had the French toast and eggs benedict. Food was good and filled us up despite what other reviewers said. We will definitely be back.

Fantastic experience!

Gourmet entrée, delicious dessert and coffee, live music, delectable atmosphere. Highly recommend this place for dinner! Will definitely be back!

Excellent food in a relaxiing, casual setting.

This was our first visit to Sun in My Belly. What an outstanding restaurant....the food, atmosphere and wait staff were all superb! We each started with the Geisha salad. The presentation which included spinach, mandarins and blue berries was topped off with a delicious ginger vinaigrette dressing. For the main course I had the broiled salmon which was excellent and cooked to my liking. My wife had the pork chop which was so tender it melted in her mouth. For dessert we shared the french toast bread pudding. It was light and not too sweet, but quite tasty. During our dinner we noticed that the restaurant was completely full. Hats off to the staff, they were attentive, friendly and kept the operation organized. We will surely return as we are in the Little Five Points area quite often. I invite you to visit Sun in My Belly, I'm sure you will enjoy the experience!

one of Atlanta's best breakfasts

By Erik |

The only reason I don't dine here more often is the wait on the weekends. Their lunch menu may change your mind about ordering breakfast, both of which are good.

Great food, great service

By Deb-Decatur2013 |

I went with a friend to take advantage of a Scoutmob special. It was our first time there, and we agreed that this is definitely a keeper. The decor is rustic, a little bit different from many of the restaurants in the area. The servers were attentive and very helpful. The food was fresh and prepared perfectly. The prices were very reasonable for the quality and amount of food served.

Great COVID precautions

By TXMARTINS |

Masks are still required inside & the restaurant is clearly marked to help socially distance. Order at the counter, setup outside at the many tables available and wait for them to deliver your food. The PBLT or Pimento Omelette are fantastic. Of note the pastries are expensive at $8 each. When you can get a main entree for a few $ more, go for that instead of their baked goods.

On track

I've had hit or miss experiences here over the last couple of years, especially with service, but our last visit in December was right on target. Service was good and all of the food was excellent. Salads were particularly good.

Casual atmosphere; excellent food, wine & service

By SteveCDecatur |

Two recent visits -- late afternoon "brunch" and New Years Eve dinner -- were both very satisfying and relaxing. The brunch (just me and my adult daughter) favorites were the egg dishes -- cheesy scrambled eggs and an omelet. The relatively uncrowded New Years Eve meal was perfect -- food, wine, service, atmosphere. We had scallops and lamb, with a shared bowl of white bean soup and house salad before. The recommended bottle of Malbec was great, as well as very affordable. Service was just right -- attentive without being intrusive. I think the building is an old hardware store. Kind of funky but very comfortable.

delicious fresh breakfast

we found this place by a fluke and loved it. very fresh fruit and excelled French toast--everyone tried something different and we were all more than satisfied

Perfect brunch with friends

A perfect brunch experience. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I got the shrimp and grits and it was everything you could want. The shrimp were cooked and seasoned perfectly. Service was perfect. Will definitely come back.

Pay attention to your bill!

By badgerpt |

We came here with a group of 14. If it was just me and my fiancee`, we would not have picked a place like this on our own. It felt sort of hippish/yuppie-like. The prices were a little higher than we typically like ($10 for a dagwood sandwich + 1 side; $10 for a bowl of miso soup) for lunch, but we were with the group, so we decided to go with it. The service was good, our waitress very attentive. Water was served in small mason jars at room temperature. The dagwood sandwich was pretty good, loaded with meat. I got mac 'n cheese as a side, hoping it was going to blow my socks off, but alas, it was plain elbow macaroni with some melted cheddar cheese, nothing else. Quite bland. My fiancee' ordered the miso soup, not knowing exactly what she was getting into. She hated it, but for someone who loves miso soup, it may have been awesome. The waitress did replace it with a Caesar salad that my fiancee' said was the best salad she's ever had, so the restaurant tried to make things right in that regard. Our friends got a variety of items, and everyone said their food was good, so there's that. Then the check comes. Our bill was approximately $23.50. It "suggested" that our total + tip should be $32+. By some crazy calculation, they were suggesting that we pay a 36% tip! They were figuring 18% + 18%. Now I understand the larger tip in a group of 8 or more, but $9 on a $23 tab??? Sorry, but I don't agree. I probably would not return there.

Anniversary Celebration

By Brandi B |

We just celebrated our 2nd anniversary here, I learned of the place from travelzoo so the deal was exceptional. We really enjoyed our meal the food was unique and tasty, albeit a little pricey. I was a little disappointed that they didn't serve a Miscato, we tried the fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese and highly recommend them. I opted for the weekly special for salad and dinner entree and wasn't disappointed, lamb chops with sauteed kale. The dessert we shared was spectacular (off the weekly menu). Overall it was a great dinner, however by the time we left the place was busy and you couldn't hardly hear the person across the table because of the chatter in the room.

Decent place for brunch but not the best out there

By Aun M |

went here for brunch with a friend when i was visiting Atlanta. I had done some online research prior to going there, and it seemed like a great place. My experience though was just decent, not spectacular. Parking could be a huge issue...we also had to wait for good 30 minutes because it was a weekend. Staff was very cordial although they did mess up the order slightly. They seemed to have very limited options for breakfast to be honest...i wouldn't go there again if i am in Atlanta again.

Wonderful place for breakfast

By Jim M |

Have been here several times and I love this place. Great breakfast foods and I have hear it is now out for dinner and will try soon for dinner. Great place and excellent service.

Different and Delicious

By Tamara E |

Myself and a couple of friends tried this spot for brunch after church. It was something new and the food was very good. I tried the shrimp & grits. This was my first time having this dish with bar b que sauce but it was differently delicious.

Soooo good!

By D S |

My stepdaughter lives nearby so her dad and I met her for breakfast. Funky decor, air conditioning fully operational, a requirement for me at this menopausal age, especially in July. Excellent, friendly service. Now for the food. Oh yum. I had the PBLT - a BLT with pimento cheese and fried green tomatoes, maple smoke bacon and a spicy scallion aioli - omg, it was ridiculously good. All this piled between two slices of toast, sturdy enough to hold the goods without cutting the roof of your mouth. My only regret: I gave half my sandwich to my husband so he could enjoy it too. I want it back.

Delicious

Oh my goodness! This is a great place hidden in plain sight!!! Listen, the food is out of this world. Bursting with flavor, freshly prepared and an amazing atmosphere!!! I highly recommend this establishment!!!

Saturday Lunch

By Detrie B |

My sister and I had a late lunch on Saturday and found the place packed. There was an hour wait. We weren't disappointed. I had the Dill tuna melt with black lentil salad. Fresh and delicious. My sister had the chicken salad with Brussels sprout salad. We enjoyed everything.

Great food for locals

By Goochorama |

We went on a Monday morning since we aren't the type to do crowds/long waits. We got a table outside without a problem. Would be nice if they could toss a few cushions or pillows for the non-chair seating b/c after a while it's kind of uncomfortable. But the food was great. I had the french toast with fruit (see pic) & it was delicious. Next time I will add some bacon b/c I was jealous of my boyfriends. He had the scrambled egg panini & while it was good he thought the eggs were a bit overcooked. Our server was pleasant & was neither too attentive nor MIA - just right. It's true what all the reviews say about very limited parking. So you have 3 choices: walk if you're local, get dropped off or only go when it's not primetime for crowds. Overall we would definitely go back b/c there are other things on the menu we want to try.

Great food, bad service

By seump06 |

Visited here on an early Saturday morning with my husband, daughter, and her fiance. Place only had a few tables occupied at the time. Food was delicious. Only negative comment is that our server, David T., brought us coffee but never checked back to see if we needed refills (which we all did). A girl came by asking if we needed hot sauce or anything and we asked for more coffee, but it never came. I'd be more forgiving about it had they been busy, but they definitely were not. Still a lovely place to eat.

Disappointed

By Iannellin |

Despite the hype surrounding this diner/restaurant and the willing and enthusiastic service, it takes them an age to produce food that is over-sauced and not fantastic. It's as if the spirit is willing but the result is disappointing. The Brussels sprouts slaw is pretty bitter and, basically, unappealing. The sandwiches are good but not excellent. So, overall, the hype is greater than the outcome. It's a shame as there is obviously great potential.

Interesting flavors and lots of pimento cheese

By hrobinson1114 |

We enjoyed the friend green tomatoes, which were well seasoned, crispy, and topped with pimento cheese. I had the pimento cheese omelet, which was fluffy. I wish the pimento had been a little more melted and gooey, but the overall flavors were good. Had a spicy Bloody Mary, but it wasn’t spicy. It was thin on flavor, but not the worst I’ve ever had. The menu said the spicy Bloody Mary should have Worcestershire sauce and tabasco, but I didn’t taste any of that. My husband had the scrambled egg pressed panini sandwich and liked it. Our server, Jonathan B., did a great job and was very attentive. There are several things on the menu I would go back to try. A little out of the way place with a farmhouse vibe. Overall enjoyable (and I’m sure they would amp by Bloody Mary up if I asked them to).

Great food and service

By Blacksoup |

My wife and I invited another couple to dine based on Travelzoo special which is still ongoing. For $39 for two or $75 for four enjoy over $100 of great food. The restaurant does have very tight seating at tables for four. However they are about a foot apart from next table to your right or left. Reservations necessary because of volume when we went on Friday. Parking in back for only 15 cars or so. Plan to park on street especially in the evening. Even at 9:00 place was crowded we each had a different entree. Everyone said their food was delicious. Our special came with wine. The price came to $107 but we paid only $75. Get the special and enjoy really good food and service. Ice tea not included in the special

Wonderful lunch!

A few friends recommended this place and I really enjoyed it! Simple decor and interesting menu! I had the pimento, bacon, fried green tomato with an egg and it was delicious! No complaints here, just a really nice lunch.

Breakfast all day, you can't go wrong!

By Torijt1 |

Went to this cute little spot around lunch time, and was ecstatic to see that they serve their breakfast item all day! Everything on the menu looked amazing, I suppose I would describe it as very elevated cafe food, or gourmet cafe food. Lots of sandwich choices, quiches, omelets, etc, but not typical in the sense of ingredients and extras you would find at a standard cafe. Even the side dishes were extravagant in flavor, beet couscous, brussel sprout slaw (which I tried, and LOVED!). My mom also got to try one of the lavender biscuits, and it was buttery, fresh, and delicious, and yes it did have a hint of lavender, but it was not over powering in the least. The service was great, the atmosphere was just that of a small town cafe, really cute, but not a ton of room, so you may want to call ahead to if you have a large party to see if they can accommodate you (we had a party of 5, and it was only a 5 min wait). If it is your first time to this place, you may drive right by it and not even know it, no large sign out on the front to really distinguish it, look for the small restaurant name on the windows. I will definitely be returning to this place, it was delicious, decently priced, and again, just plain delicious!

Wonderful high quality food!

By divephotoexplore |

This is a terrific restaurant with a great chef. Many dishes are unique and you can tell they put extra effort into preparing dishes that have wonderful, seasonal flavors. The salads and sides are great as are the brunch items. This is a great place to meet up with a small group of girlfriends for brunch, go on a date for dinner, or celebrate a special event.

Local, Charming, Good Variety

By Thomas K |

This is a favorite restaurant for family members living in Atlanta. We had a very nice dinner there, not expensive, with lots of choices. Next time I'll get the short ribs instead of the scallops, and the ice cream cone instead of the creme brûlée. Great choice of wines!

Very good and different breakfast options

By cumberlandga |

I found out about this restaurant thru a guide put out by AJC. I brought a friend from out of town to try it out. I had the PBLT which was delicious and unique. My friend ordered the challah French toast and it lived up to its delicious reputation. We were there on a weekday morning and we did not have a wait. Our server was attentive and answered all of our questions with a smile. I would definitely visit again and would try something different because it all sounds yummy!

Good food, Big city prices.

By rollingpeach1010 |

We were a lucky party of 8 with reservations, so we made our way through the throngs waiting for a table at 11 o'clock on a Sunday morning. The first thing that hits you is the noise--be prepared to only hear the person next to you and maybe the one across. I had a pimento cheese sandwich ($10) with a thin bit of very good pimento cheese, some greens on really good bread. The potato salad side was excellent. Others had the Napoleon complex--a stacked sandwich with too thick bread that made it impossible to eat, eggs benedict that got smiles and thumbs up, shrimp and grits that needed spice and eggs with very good potatoes. Service was fine.

Tasty breakfast in a quaint, friendlysetting

By nanci_h_b |

This adorable spot has interesting menu options and daily specials. The honey bacon is a special treat! The biscuits are moist and fluffy! Their coffee is smooth and rich. The wait staff is attentive and friendly and is quick to fill the water glasses and coffee cups.
