A brilliant find

By amyg |

We found this place via instagram and decided to try it out for ourselves and were not disappointed! The building is beautiful and the food was fantastic- such a brilliant breakfast and the waiter was very attentive and looked after us well. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming and i would recommend to anyone looking for a lovely breakfast!

Great breakfast!

By Andrea S |

We enjoyed this charming dining room and had a fantastic breakfast. We had a hard time choosing between all the great things on the menu. Staff was very friendly and attentive.

Terrific Experiences

By Ronny |

In my 3 stays in Chicago, this restaurant has been first-class. The food is top quality- fantastic and tasty ingredients, and the staff is as nice as they come. I went on a Saturday and Sunday morning, (had to wait 5-10 mins both times) but the staff does a great job of getting everyone in and out of the restaurant efficiently and smoothly, so it is certainly worth the wait. There is also a beautiful Church adjacent to the restaurant and it is walking distance from North Michigan Ave/Magnificent Mile. Can't wait to return again!

Delicious

By Italiangirl129 |

Our breakfast was delicious and our waitress was very energetic, happy and efficient, the setting is a quaint old house in downtown Chicago. The food was abundant, hot, and satisfying.

Location, location, location

By Taylor B |

Sunny Side Up Breakfast & Lunch is all about location and breakfast and Classic Eggs Benedict and location and Sunny's Southern Style Breakfast. Did I mention location? Located at 42 East Superior Street, at Superior and Wabash, across the street from Holy Name Cathedral, across the street from Jake Melnick's Corner Tap, two blocks west of the Magnificent Mile, in the heart of Chicago, Sunny Side Up has been in business since 2012. After I lived in the neighborhood, after I worked in the neighborhood. How many times did I walk past the corner of Superior and Wabash and wonder if a great breakfast venue would someday open on that spot? Open from 8 to 2 daily, Sunny Side Up offers breakfast and lunch with patio dining and limited indoor seating. What a terrific breakfast menu! My wife and I have our favorites, of course, Classic Eggs Benedict with two poached eggs, thick Canadian bacon, English muffin, classic hollandaise sauce and breakfast potatoes with a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice and Sunny's Southern Style Breakfast with three scrambled eggs, pork sausage, home-made buttermilk biscuits and topped with pork sausage gravy. But we have sampled other items that are highly recommended...Sunny Side Up oatmeal with toasted pecans, brown sugar and raisins, corned beef hash and eggs, steak and eggs with an eight-ounce ribeye, two scrambled eggs and breakfast potatoes, Stuffed French Toast filled with berries and cream, The Chicago Way with two scrambled eggs, pork sausage, breakfast potatoes and toast and the Steak Skillet with a six-ounce ribeye, sauteed mushrooms, bleu cheese and scrambled eggs. With all of those delicious options, it's no wonder Sunny Side Up does a brisk business every morning.

Sunday Breakfast

By Hope L |

Yummy sweet potato waffle, my husband had a combination breakfast that he said was very good. Place is briskly busy and there is outdoor seating during this crazy time.

Good place for breakfast

By Ross G |

A good breakfast spot with a range of options. Food was average but still tasty. Prices were ok. Atmosphere was good, set in a old multi story town house.

It was eggselent!!

By jma12thman |

We were looking for a good breakfast within close walking distance from our hotel. This place hit the spot!! Loved the small quaint feel. Food was excellent fast and sooo filling. Great meal

Had breakfast here yesterday (19 June) such a nice break fast and very different from our previous breakfasts since visiting other places in Chicago. Definitely want to go back

Great way to start the day!

By Ann L. |

Fantastic place for abundant breakfast! Delicious food, cool historic building, great location. We ate there every morning on this trip. Hadn’t been in 6 years and it is still wonderful. Met the owner Brian this visit. Warm and wonderful host. A great way to start the day. Fantastic vanilla lavender latte too!

Cute house turned restaurant. Loved the décor and food was delicious. Had a basic breakfast, can't go wrong with that. French toast was tasty.

18% gratuity mandatory

By Alejandra M |

Nice place, the food is alright, but they force you to pay a 18% tip even if you are a small party. Way too much!

Come on In

By dorothy s |

Fast, friendly and delicious. Prompt seating at a white tablecloth spot on the second floor. My husband had cornbeef hash that had onions and green peppers, topped with 2 eggs and served with a sidee of homemade breakfast potatoes. He was very pleased. I had the Green Goddess grilled cheese. Toasted Sourdough with spinach, avocado and pesto with cheese served with French fries, fruit or a salad. Super enjoyable paired with great coffee. We arrived just before the crowd getting there at 8:45. No reservations for this place. By 9:30 a small line had formed on this Sunday morning. Good morning ☺️

Good Breakfast and Service

By farawayanita |

Good Breakfast and service but beware they automatically add an 18% gratuity even for an individual customer. When I tipped the waiter about 22% he did not mention the gratuity had been added and I didn't notice it on the Bill after I tipped him. A lesson learned please read your bill carefully as I will do in the future!

Great find on a busy Sunday morning.

By Lesley C |

Great find for breakfast on a busy Sunday morning. The restaurant size is very deceiving from the outside , it looks small but actually has several floors . Our wait time was minimal and the service was fast. We plan to go back again before we go home.

Great breakfast and service

By MichaelKohn1 |

I go to the gym in the building next door so I decided to try. Excellent choices for breakfast. Chose the omelette and toast. Very good service (not too busy) but nicely presented. Would definitely go back.

Best River North Breakfast

By Globaljoan |

If you are a breakfast person, get here before they open at 8 am. Best breakfast dishes you will find. When I have house guests, this is where we always go.

Super Fresh

By Ed D |

Had a great breakfast in a nice outdoor seating area. Great service and food made with very fresh ingredients. Service was friendly and price was reasonable. Highly recommend.

Great food, nice neighbourhood, beautiful structure

By Andrew L |

Sunny Side Up is in a beautiful historical building. It’s worth it to look up that history yourself. The menu has lots of options, bottomless coffee, and the food is generally quite tasty.

A bit disappointed

By travelislifeMiami |

We went based on the reviews and I have mix feelings about it. Although the breakfast plates were good, they do not have fresh orange juice and only served an unimpressive regular coffee. The server was annoyed when I asked for the fresh orange juice and the espresso coffee. The outside seating was nice.

Good and friendly

By paisha |

I enjoyed breakfast at the inside counter. The service was excellent, and the food was excellent. I enjoyed the avocado toast and a side of bacon. Cute vibe

Relaxed Brunch with some Chicago charm

By MGBLondon |

Breakfast /Brunch place set in a charming multi floor older building - made for a very relaxed Sunday brunch. The Sunny’s corn beef hash was very tasty, the chocolate chip pancakes were fluffy but not too sweet thanks to the bitter sweet chocolate. They were able to accommodate our larger group quiet quickly which was a bonus

Hidden Gem downtown!

By mark c |

On advice of our hotel we walked to Sunny Side Up just a few blocks away. The location is obscure and unassuming. The staff (especially Eric) were all very friendly, personable and efficient. The food arrived VERY quickly in more than ample portions. Great coffee in a home-like atmosphere.

By anne v |

Northern hospitality

By Emily Strawbridge |

Amazing food amazing service just overall amazing. The French toast is a must and the biscuits and gravy are the best I’ve ever had and I’m from the south!

A breakfast place you have to visit.

By milyruiz |

Quick attention Original and very rich dishes. The chilaquiles tasted good and the dish very vast. The French toast of peanut cream and jam simply delicious. There are many dishes to choose from. Reasonable prices.

Not the Best attention

By Estefany S |

The food is good but the service was terribleeee! And the worst part is that besides the awful service, the y charge you 18% of tip! There are better and faster places

A great breakfast or lunch spot just off North Michigan Avenue.

By Lisa S |

A lovely spot for breakfast or lunch close to North Michigan Avenue, just off the Magnificent Mile. We sat outside and enjoyed tasty food and good service. We had the Nutella crepes and the Sunny Hash with Corned Beef. They are close to Holy Name Cathedral. We walked from the Cathedral. I would return there.

Best breakfast ever !

By Rose |

We stayed in Chicago and came every morning of our 6 day trip. All the staff were lovely but the owner Bryan was fantastic - what a great host. Food was amazing every day, great atmosphere and Bryan treated us with donuts and cronuts which were gorgeous. If you stay in Chicago go there, it's fantastic 👍👍

Needs Improvement

By phaniefield |

We had breakfast here the last time we were in Chicago but we’re disappointed this time. It was so cold I had to keep my coat on. My oatmeal bowl was dirty. Both orders of oatmeal were cold. Our waitress was nice but her overly long, green fingernails did not strike me as sanitary. We’ll find somewhere else tomorrow.

Christmas Eve Brunch

By Sarah W |

Swung by here on Christmas Eve before heading back home from a trip to Chicago. Was weary about if they would be open but we were happy to see they were, and after talking to the owner learned they’re open for Christmas day as well which is so nice for out of town people like us. The owner was so friendly and had a lovely conversation with us on the way out after a good meal. Awesome portions, 4 of us shared two dishes, tasty food and great, friendly service. The hot chocolate was so good as well and they offer a variety of alternative milks for their drinks. Will definitely be coming back when we return to Chicago!

Chicago Way or Southern Style?

By Taylor B |

I still remember when my mother sent me off to elementary school, junior high school and high school with only a glass of orange juice for breakfast. I guess that's why it took me so long to adjust to having something more substantial for breakfast. Even in college, I passed on a full breakfast. Finally, during six-month basic training for the National Guard, I discovered eggs and bacon. On Sunday mornings, the cook would prepare eggs any way you wanted. I've always preferred scrambled eggs. As a married man, I have come to enjoy breakfast, especially when I'm traveling. I can't resist Eggs Benedict. Chicago, noted for steaks, pizza, hot dogs and Italian beef, has some very good breakfast destinations, too. Sunny Side Up is one of them. Located at 42 East Superior Street, between Wabash and Rush, near the Magnificent Mile, is open from 8 to 2 Thursday through Monday for breakfast and lunch. It offers stuffed French toast, pancakes, waffles, omelets, crab cakes, skillets and everything from steak and eggs to corned beef hash to steak and eggs. Start with beignets dusted in a cinnamon glaze and served with whipped cream. Also granola with milk. Of course, I can't pass up the Eggs Benedict with two poached eggs, Canadian bacon, English muffin and hollandaise sauce. You might prefer to choose between the house's most favorite breakfasts, Chicago Way or Southern Style. Chicago Way is two scrambled eggs, pork sausage, breakfast potatoes and toast. Southern Style is three scrambled eggs, pork sausage and home-made buttermilk biscuits topped with pork sausage gravy. Either way, you'll leave smiling.

Great breakfast pancakes

By BlarghBlargh |

Great location and amazing breakfasts. We sat outside and I had really nice pancakes. Staff were very friendly too - well worth a visit.

I would love to live near here so I could order every day

By Laura P |

The choices for breakfast/brunch are amazing and it was so hard deciding what to get because it is all so delicious. The owner/staff so friendly and the location great.

Disappointed

By Matthew S |

The food is just okay. Fruits not very clean or fresh. I ordered “freshly squeezed orange juice” which is $5. It tasted and looked like what you would find in grocery store. The staff replied that the fresh orange juice was squeezed and prepared by the supplier company not by them. There are black dots on potatoes.

Old fashion restaurant

By Pompeylad |

From the outside, you’d probably walk on by, but please don’t. We sought it out & so pleased we did. Coffee was great & plentiful. We chose the Stuffed French toast with peaches & Stuffed French toast with berries. We then shared, See photo .

Fast and great food

By Gail A |

Breakfast was fast and delicious. Angie, our wonderful waitress, served us with a smile and lots of energy. She was great as well.

The best brunch in DT Chicago

By NickSFCB |

Had brunch here twice on my most recent trip to Chicago, had a table and sat at the bar. Great staff, very friendly, really good atmosphere, and not rushed. Food was as good if not better. recommend the sunny southern style breakfast with turkey sausage. Will be back.

Great Food Great Service!

By ChefBre |

We finally found our “Go-to” breakfast place when we visit Chicago!! Some of the best sausage gravy I have ever had served with really good biscuits! And let’s talk about the service....OUTSTANDING!! Thanks! We’ll be back! Chef Bre & Family

Terrible

By tinalamar |

I have no idea why this place has so many good reviews. We waited a good 45 min for our food before we were told that the kitchen had not been able to read our order and were asked by the same waitress what it was that we‘d ordered. When we asked for a coffee refill the busboy filled my cup and walked away without asking my husband if he wanted one too. I guess you have to be specific when asking... After an hour we finally got our food and when my husband asked where the canadian bacon was on his eggs benedict (it looked and tasted like chorizo), the waitress told him „that‘s just how we make it“. 2 minutes later she brought him another plate (with canadian bacon) and told him he could have both because the kitchen had made a mistake. Ummm...okay. We must look pretty stupid to believe all that. Anyways...The owner apologized several times, did not charge us for our coffees and offered us a latte or capuccino. That was quite nice of him but did not make up for the long wait, mistakes and crappy food. The food was most certainly not worth the long wait.

A must in Chicago

By Dennis F |

An outstanding breakfast place. They also serve lunch but I have not tried lunch yet. As far as breakfast, their food is just amazing. A lot of selections and the portions are very generous. They also have a seasonal breakfast menu that is excellent. I always eat here at least once on my visit to Chicago.

Casual breakfast.

By kath8283 |

Great neighborhood breakfast spot, non touristy. Delicious skillet eggs. Beautiful charming building and friendly staff.

Nice breakfast in a great location

By LAJ7 |

Great location, good hearty breakfast. Lots of options and tasty food. You won't walk away hungry from here. Friendly, efficient service.

Outstanding quality - wonderful service

By Rainmaker77 |

Outstanding quality - wonderful service Really the food was quite good - and very well presented. Arrived hot and quickly too!

Great Way to Start the Day!

By MojitoNC |

This breakfast place was nearby the Omni Hotel where we were staying. They open at 8 AM and a small line formed as we waited to enter. After thoroughly enjoying our breakfast, I can see why customers are lining up. There are many creative breakfast items on the menu. My wife had Stuffed French Toast and I ordered the Eggs Benedict. Both were delicious and I can say that the quantity of each might be enough to share. Our server was friendly and helpful. Overall, we enjoyed everything about our visit.

Really Good Food

By World Raders |

Positives first: Food is top notch. I had an amazing gluten free waffle with syrup. I asked for a side of crispy bacon and it was perfectly crunchy. My husband got a Nutella latte and croquet madame. He said both were done well. The service was great. Nice attentive staff. The missing star: This place would have received 5 stars if it weren’t for the following. -The waffle was served with cold maple syrup. Would have appreciated warm syrup to accompany my waffle. -It is lacking in atmosphere. Not a lot of natural light and not many eating spots near a window for casual people watching. Interior needs a revamp. We will definitely come back based on the amazing gluten free waffle and great service.

Time for a walk

By Gregg A |

Just finished breakfast. WOW! Huge portions, but very delicious. My wife and I enjoyed it very much. Ran into a couple in the hotel elevator that also seemed to enjoy it

BREAKFAST...............................

By jacy2 |

Special spot to have breakfast or lunch. Menu is very creative and has items not normally offered. Service was very good, prompt and efficeint. Food was tasty and well presented.

Great..

By Bertha H |

The cakes tasted awesome.. they looked exact replica of what I had asked for.. Would order again and definitely recommend everyone to order from cake fantasy.

Delicious Breakfast!

By Patti M |

Great little cafe in an old Chicago brownstone. Breakfast was delicious, particularly the Stuffed French Toast Duo….berries and cream and peaches and cream! Highly recommend!

Loved it, great food anda great feel

By deccrv |

Walked in by chance mid Sunday morning. The place was busy but as a sole traveller they found me a place at the counter. It was busy but that created a nice morning vibe and service was swift. Had a pretty standard breakfast - eggs, bacon, sausage etc and it was great washed down with constant coffee and ornage juice. More than enough to set me up for the day, especially as due toa little mix up on my bill, they insisted on giveing me the bacon strips for free! Loved it would definitely go back.

Amazing

By anhonestreview2016 |

Super cool venue great service and probably the best breakfast I've ever had. My partner in my commented that we both thought everything was perfect. I got the Florentine Skillet and she got that Greek egg white omelette and both were perfect. The fruit bowl was a steak, it was huge and had raspberries blueberries cantaloupe pineapple strawberries honeydew. Go there

Excellent!!!

By The_Lankan |

We had breakfast here on Labor Day weekend. There were four of us and we had the Chilaquiles, Stuffed French toast, Pancakes and a Breakfast Burrito. Everything was great. I was really hungry and had the Chilaquiles which I was told in advance was huge, but I really enjoyed it and had to skip lunch that day. The staff is super friendly. We would go back again and try something different.

Magnificent!!!

By Mike Vath |

Wandering around downtown I stumbled across this place and all I can say is WOW!!! The staff was upbeat, talkative, engaged in what they were doing and provided wonderful suggestions and service. I ordered a Chai Latte... Amazing! Followed up by the suggested Chilaquiles for breakfast and my God, what a great suggestion it was. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was perfect. Will most definitely go back whenever I'm in town!

Quick service and tasty food

By Dave M |

We were seated in a timely fashion despite the place being busy. Our coffee cups were filled immediately and our orders were taken as well. Our food came out within 15 minutes and had good presentation. The food was good and the value was good as well. Overall we were well satisfied with everything. I would highly recommend a visit.

Superior Breakfast!

By MimiB96 |

Loved the warm atmosphere of this restaurant after a chilly, Friday morning walk. Seated quickly. Server helpful with suggestions. Food was satisfying and delicious. Pancakes, eggs and sausage served hot. A great place to fill up before a busy day walking around Chicago.

Great food - shocked for being charged 3$ for a cup of a regular coffe

By Cesu_cesu |

Great food! Great place! Big menu with fresh ingredients. Was shocked for being charged 3$ for a cup of a regular coffee!

Ignore the haters! This place has great food!

By Shawna Phillips |

We went on New Year's Day. There was a small wait because they weren't staffed to accommodate the holiday crowd, something they hadn't anticipated due to last year's minimal crowd. Once seated our experience was far more than we originally anticipated. Our service was outstanding and the food, oh WOW! We are a party of 6 and we all absolutely loved our entrees. Whoever said this is warmed up box food is cRaZy! The food is truly delicious! There were 6 different people that had rave reviews! We are planning a girl's trip for the spring, we will definitely be returning!

Pleasant setting medium kitchen

By sylvain2308 |

Very nice setting. And Welcoming, smiling. Classic breakfast card. Pancakes are good. Breakfasts more savoury whether Mexican orientation or more classic with bacon are good but not exceptional. Friendly by the setting, but the food ultimately remains quite average. Price in the Chicago Standard

Disappointing Of course

By Jankees Rovers |

Disappointing Of course an iconic old typical Chicago Restaurant. Like in an old gangster movie, feeling the old Italian-American Atmosphere. A place where they haven’t invested for the last 30-40 in furniture and decorations . But the food was disappointing, luke-warm and just not tasty. And $4,50 for just three strips of bacon.....? Anyhow have the experience

Delicious breakfast with lots of variety in the menu!

By Evelyn B |

We were in Chicago for a quick sightseeing weekend and wanted to re-visit Sunny Side Up after a wonderful breakfast there in late April 2022. We were not disappointed. The wait on a Sunday morning was minimal and we were seated within 15 minutes of our arrival. I loved the special apple French toast ; I don't usually order French toast but the description sounded appetizing and I was not disappointed. It was perfectly done and the apple topping was not commercially processed. My dining partners each chose different egg dishes, one was an omelet and the other an eggs Benedict and both were happy with their choices. Service was prompt and attentive. Prices are about par for good breakfast places in a big city so we were expecting a sizable bill. Sunny Side Up is now on our "must visit" list for breakfast dining options when we visit Chicago!

Popular breakfast spot

By CaroStev |

Got there early on a Saturday morning and just in time: lineup was out the door when we left. Not surprised. Food was delicious and well-proportioned (emphasis on quality, not quantity). Nice street patio and comfortable inside. Friendly and prompt service. Enjoyed the background music.

Random trip advisor selection

By weareonlyhuman |

Neat place for sure! Highly recommend trying!! If our waitress is new, she needs a few more training shifts. Had a detailed conversation about not wanting green peppers in my omelette and was told the bell peppers were red and yellow, ended up with green and red peppers. Server said, oh I wasn't sure if you wanted green... We asked for a side of American fries, ended up with french fries( okay not an issue but maybe could have caught on and double checked stating the omelettes come with potatoes). We were told that omelettes come with toast or pancakes so I guess didn't know potatoes too. Anyways, food quality it good! Neat atmosphere!

Cold poached eggs :(

By M A |

My husband and I chose this place because I like ambiance and this place seemed cozy and quaint. It was at that. Located in what used to be a boarding house. The one star is for the atmosphere. I don't have high expectations for breakfast. We ordered a very simple oatmeal dish and eggs florentine. I was warned that the plate was hot. The plate and the oatmeal were barely warm. My husband 's breakfast was stone cold. I'm not exaggerating. I'm surprised he finished it. Cold poached eggs - blech! We then ordered nutella crepes - we waited until finished with our first course thinking that surely they will be warm! Fool us once...they were just barely warm. Three out of three. Probably the worst breakfast we've ever had.

Neighborhood breakfast spot

By Eugene B |

Casual, friendly host, serving up great breakfast for a reasonable price. Recommend to sit outside. Omelets were very fresh and delicious. Highly recommend !

Great food great price

By Michaelshawkfan |

The protein breakfast chicken spinach egg whites They were very busy on Sunday we had to wait about 20 min but it was worth the wait . The Coffie was very good not strong at all . The gluten free pancakes were a nice touch for a side

Stuffed French Toast

By Tim T |

We ate here, two times for breakfast. Everyone very attentive to us. You must step up and get the stuffed french toast. It is awesome.

Excellent - have to try!

By Russ S |

Tucked in a corner of Superior St, this place is great. We had our first 'eat out at a restaurant' with family, and could not have made a better pick. The 6 of us enjoyed it all. The food was very tasty, more food than expected. Wait staff was provided great service, and Brian (owner) was also attentive, making sure everything was fine. I had the Breakfast Tostadas - very flavorful. Others had the stuffed french toast, the croque Madame, and the omelets, all were great. Can't recommend it enough, impressed!

Neat Old House

By winks1996 |

Remolded house and really cool. Staff was great. Food was outstanding. Delicous potatoes. No doubt stop by

Amazing

By susan y |

The perfect spot for a fabulous warm breakfast on a cold day in the Windy City. Incredible food beautifully presented and an extremely hospitable staff beginning with Bryan at the front door and our phenomenal server Violet. Start to finish hands down one of the best breakfasts ever!!! Highly recommend the Berries and Creme Stuffed French Toast the Seasonal Pumpkin Spice Pancakes and The wonderful seasonal Lattes and hot choclate

Great place

By Franzi2004 |

We just had breakfast at Sunny Side Up and can recommend it 100 %. Food was delicious, and staff great! Thank you for a perfect start in the day!

Warning. Owner/manager flagrantly

By Adventure557784 |

Warning. Owner/manager flagrantly disregarding COVID requirements. No mask or distancing. Hovering over guests and employees. Tables packed in, no accommodations made to spread out seating. I have never written a negative review. This establishment should be closed.

Overpriced and small portions

By Travel_Addict_Cyprus |

The portions are very small and they are overpriced. I went for the gluten free pancakes which were flat and tasteless unfortunately. I make gluten free pancakes at home and they are 1,000 times better, fluffy and tasty. These were disappointing. My husband got the "Chicago Way" a plate with sausage, eggs and breakfast potatoes. The sausage was really tasty, but the serving was small. Service was ok. With so many places serving breakfast downtown, i'll probably go for a different place next time.

Delicious breakfast and brunch, but long wait

By Mariia K |

Very good breakfast/brunch. Yes, the wait is very long, we waited about 45 minutes outside for our table, because the place is small and they have no places to wait. First, you must make sure to sign up for a waiting list at the hostess at the entrance, then wait your turn and after enjoy a delicious breakfast. Service is quick. The establishment is quite cramped and noisy, as it is small and designed for a large number of visitors, but this does not interfere with communication. There is no parking nearby.

Very nice breakfast.

By mmabend |

Very nice breakfast. Jordan was especially responsive and helpful. Portions were quite large. Plenty of coffee refills. Gratuity of 18% added automatically. I'm told that's on the menu but I did not check.

Friendly Service, Bland Food

By VegasToEssex |

Friendly service but below average food. Everything was flavorless, from the chilaquiles to the omelet to the breakfast potatoes. Lots of wasps around the table as well. A disappointing breakfast.

Great brunch in a cozy brownstone walk-up

By HoustonTexatty |

Always a treat! Full and varied brunch menu, and every plate has always been well done. This time I had chilaquiles and my wife had breakfast tostadas. Well seasoned, delicious, friendly service, in a warm and cozy setting 2 blocks off Michigan Ave in an old brownstone walkup with a 1900s residence feel. We love coming back home here.

Great brunch

By Byron C |

We ate here on a Sunday morning. Really pretty upstairs dining room, good breeze through an open window. We split the chiquiilas. They were hot and fresh. Very light, not drowned in heavy cheese or sauce. Will eat here again when in Chicago.

Last day in Chicago

By G S |

Wife and I stopped to have breakfast before heading out of town. We enjoyed breakfast outside. Service was very good and the food was even better. I had the Ole skillet. It had a nice mix of vegetables and chorizo sausage. Great place to have breakfast.

Perfectly Perfect in Every Way

By RaeToGo |

I was looking for a breakfast place nearby and found this little gem online. The reviews and pictures looked great so I decided to give it a try. So glad I did. The staff was great and food was amazing. I had the waffle with bananas foster topping and a side of extra crispy bacon. Everything was good to perfection, exactly what I was craving. Service was fast and beyond friendly. The atmosphere is charming with options to eat inside or out. If you’re looking for a breakfast that won’t disappoint this is your place.

Great Breakfast

By Kacey D |

Great breakfast and lovely atmosphere! Staff was very friendly. The outside dining was full but the inside was nice as well!

Inexcusably bad.

By Harold R |

Whoever was cooking can’t make bacon crisp. It came undercooked, sopping with grease. Eggs ordered over well came over easy- very easy. The manager was belligerent and insulting. He claimed they are not permitted to take an avocado out of the shell. How stupid! My wife and I will not go back. There are so many better places, skip this one.

Wonderful brunch

By bcsystems |

We came here for brunch/lunch. There is usually a long line but seems to move pretty fast. They will not sit you until all parties have arrived. No reservations. There are about a dozen tables outside on the street. We sat inside. It appears to be a 3 story historic home. All the food was wonderful and great service. Cannot go wrong eating breakfast. brunch, or lunch here

Great service, Great people, Great food

By Lisa |

My family and another family went to Chicago for a long weekend. We went to this restaurant for breakfast one morning and had great food with wonderful service. The owner came out to not just greet us, but talk to us as well. We loved it so much, we went back the next day! Our server from the previous day learned we were there again and made it a point to come see us even though he wasn't serving us the next day. The owner also made it a point to come see us and he even sent us away with a couple of donuts from his coffee shop.

Hospital food would have been better

By Cassie A |

This place looked great on the outside and the staff were friendly, but the food was bland, cold, and not creative at all to say the least. For the price per plate, you’d expect SOME originality for breakfast or at least taste, but this place was a disappointment. $100 for breakfast down the drain (that includes the tip), but I left it alone because I was with family/visitors. Please reconsider your presentation of your breakfast options and if you are going to continue to serve at that level, reduce your prices. Also, the cooks could be heard arguing with each other when visiting the restroom.

Best Breakfast In Town- Will Be Back!

By Mterrico |

Decided on this place because of their reviews and it did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by the owner and his extremely outgoing staff. We sat at the bar so we could look out the window and it’s our preference. The owner, Brian, was so kind and chatted with us and gave recommendations for the area & things to do around town. The whole staff was so friendly and we really felt like we were part of the family here at Sunny Side Up. Not only was the owner and his staff amazing but the food was EXCELLENT!!! I had the breakfast tostadas and my boyfriend had the smoked salmon platter. Food came out promptly and was delicious!! This was the perfect start to our NYE vacation and we will definitely be back!

Best breakfast ever xxx

By Yvonne M |

What can I say, over from Uk and staying just of mag mile, found this place by accident as it was 8.30am. What a great choice, didn't know is was a Chicago staple, service rapid and caring, waitress and rest of staff on top of their game, and the food, wow, avocado on toast (2 slices)with all trimmings, 2 eggs sunny side up and ordered pumpkin pancakes with maple, butter and walnuts and fruit. Best breakfast ever in the 5 US states I've been to in the last 3 years, plus 18% tip is included in bill so don't tip extra!! When in Chicago this place is a must!! Real mom and pop place

Excellent Stuffed French Toast!

Excellent Stuffed French Toast. This place was a wonderful place to sit down and enjoy breakfast with my husband. Everything tasted wonderful and service was top notch.

Excellent Accueil du Boss and the Crew. Très bon café et très bon breakfast avec des plats variés. Thanks you very much

Excellent breakfast!

By ClubSmith |

This is our second visit to Chicago and we have been here for breakfast both times. Sitting outside on their patio is lovely. We had everything from the healthy pancakes and waffles to the more savory ones. Eggs Benedict, biscuits and gravy etc. everyone loved their meals. The OJ is not freshly squeezed but you would think it is. The service was very welcoming, especially our waiter Brian and I believe the owner/manager who welcomed us each morning. Can’t wait to go back during our next visit to your awesome city.

Great breakfast! Great ambiance!

Great breakfast! Great ambiance! Friendly service. Highly recommend. Breakfast all day. Great location.

Breakfast

By Jennifer P |

This place was amazing and their Hollandaise sauce was perfect! Definitely would come here again! Breakfasts are big enough to share, great coffee and iced tea and our server was awesome!

It’s ok

By MGaft |

Decent place but a little overpriced and $4 for the bad coffee really? The portions are too big - I ate just a half and was too full, coffee is really so bad ugh… worse than at the airlines. I would cut the portions and lower the price.

Don’t ignore ALL of these raving reviews-TOTALLY LEGIT!

By cosmeticgirl04 |

We are staying at the Park Hyatt and when we asked the concierge where to find a great breakfast, she didn’t ever hesitate before answering “Sunny Side Up!” Quaint atmosphere and great menu. A ton of great reasonably priced options. I had the Tuscan Skillet, a chicken/goat cheese/pepper/egg concoction that had so much yummy flavor. Oh, and I got a pancake for my side because I just had to try theirs. It was awesome. My husband got the Croque Madame and it was perfect. The service is spot-on as is the coffee. It’s funny how a great breakfast can boost your mood!👍🏻

Great breakfast place

By Chipper |

We stayed in the Cambria hotel and kept coming back here for breakfast as the menu choice, quality of food and service were great Loads of coffee, always refilled and reasonably priced

Amazing food and great staff

By Derick Steinard |

Truly wonderful staff, food was fantastic and well! Indoor and outdoor seating makes it great for anytime of year.

First time there.

By Ron E |

It was so good, we went two mornings in a row. Had the corn beef hash and granola berry parfait. Excellent service, good coffee.

Great breakfasts

By bowster |

We came across this eatery on an early morning stroll and had breakfast there 3 times out of 5 days. Great food and good friendly service. Gets packed so dont visit too late.

staff were friendly and food was good

By tracey d |

it was only by chance we saw this place, the service was good and the food was good, the only thing i found annoying was they had tried to put as many tables as possible into space upstairs, it is obviously a popular place and when tables were finished there was a quick turnaround to the point were a couple of staff almost slipped and fell over due to rushing and the space available

Kick-ass breakfast.

By Shane F |

This was my second visit to this breakfast eatery in the past month or so, highly recommended by concierge staff at my hotel. They certainly weren't lying. It is fabulous. Last time I had an omelette of some description, but this time I ordered off the specials menu. I went for the Sweet Potato Waffle with fried eggs, sliced avocado and home fried potatoes. I was hungry and if I was allowed, I would have licked the plate. Service was attentive, polite and extremely efficient. I washed my food down with coffee and water. This place is a must for breakfast if you're visiting Chicago. Total bill was $17 - well worth the money.

First Rate Breakfast

By dre51 |

We really loved the breakfast at Sunny Side Up. Set in an old brownstone building, they offer huge portions of classic Benedict’s, waffles, pancakes and egg dishes. Very enthusiastic server (Eric) and good service. The only reason I marked them down one star was a ladies room which was less than tidy, (I’ll spare you the disgusting details). I asked if there was a second ladies room on another floor. There was! Alas, it had issues as well...no toilet tissue. So, potty issues aside, the food is great. 😁

A good one service.

By Anne C |

Sunny Side Up is a very good café in Chicago. Food was delicious and well-proportioned (emphasis on quality, not quantity). Nice street patio and comfortable inside We ate at an outdoor table on a beautiful day! All the food was wonderful, and there was great service.

Delicious but note that tip is Included in bill

By Steve1 |

A Google search found this place just a short walk from our hotel on North Michigan, and we liked it so much we started our day here for three days of our trip. We were lucky to get there on Thursday before the line at the door started. Located in a lovely old house, it has seating on three floors and nice stained glass windows giving it a warm feeling. The staff was friendly and good with re-filling our coffees. Breakfasts were generous and filling, just the way we like to start our day. Filled us up enough so that we didn't need lunch as we explored the city. I had the custom omelette where you can choose your own fillings and was very nicely cooked. Friends had eggs, bacon, potatoes and pancakes (you can choose if you want toast or pancakes with your egg dishes). My partner had healthy oatmeal each morning and loved the berries that were added. The one piece of toast that came with my omelette (could you not include two?) arrived each morning with a gigantic and way too big scoop of butter on the plate to put on the toast. I used only a smidgen each morning and left a huge amount of butter on the plate each day. They might want to consider smaller amounts or some pre packaged butter in small containers rather than wasting that much butter each day. With many of us skipping butter altogether, I'd be happy to just get the toast plain and would probably ask for it that way in future. One thing to note: they include an 18 per cent tip on the bill automatically, so do not add a tip here. I don't resent them doing this in itself, but the server never mentioned this to us when the bill was brought. Two friends ate here the day before on their own and said they did not notice that the tip had already been included, so they ended up giving a 40 Per cent tip that day. If you are going to do this folks, you should ALWAYS mention this when you bring the bill, as it is not common in the U.S., unless you are deliberately hoping other customers won't notice that the tip has already been added. Just mentioning this to let others know, but it didn't affect our enjoyment of the place.

Friendly atmospheric brunch experience

By Laura E |

Super friendly with great food. Menu offered a slight twist on traditional brunch options which were excellent. Great atmosphere in a converted older home which added to the fun dining experience. We will definitely be back

Spring Breakfast with wonderful coffee

By Barb C |

Excellent breakfast and service! We would highly recommend this restaurant! The Florentine skillet was so delicious with fresh mushrooms and spinach.

Sunny Side on a Snowy Day

By MMM_and_MPM |

On a recommendation from our hotel we took a short walk on a very snowy day to this warm, friendly restaurant for breakfast. Situated in a 4 story building we enjoyed the ambience, food and friendly service. We were seated at a table tucked into a niche at the base of a stairs servicing the 3 dining floors. Tip, If we’d known about this we would have requested seating at a different location. Aside from table location our experience was enjoyable as we dined on tasty Nova Benedict and Smoked Salmon Omelet entrees. The coffee was good and the large glass of freshly squeezed OJ delicious. We took in the other floors before we left to appreciate Sunny Side’s unique features including woodwork, staircase and stained glass. The coffee shop is located separately from the restaurant in the basement accessed from the front of the building.

Breakfasts with tip included

By tripecab |

We were having breakfast here in November 2023 Good service and quality. We had chicken with eggs and spinach, chocolate pancakes, coffee and juice for $49, including a mandatory 18% tip.

Great breakfast!

By RunnerGirl53 |

My only regret is that we did not discover this place until our last morning in Chicago. We would have eaten here all three mornings if we had known about it! There was a short wait to be seated but once we had our table the service was prompt and very friendly! The dishes we had were excellent. The Tuscan Skillet and the Margherita Omelet were very tasty and the portions were huge. If we hadn’t wanted to try both dishes, one would have been big enough to split. While other reviews complained about the automatic 18% gratuity (which is clearly disclosed), the serving staff clearly earned it-and more. We were so impressed with the efficient and welcoming service from the whole staff ( and especially from Angie who is a force of nature!!), we left an additional 15%. Yes, it was that good. Will definitely return to Sunny Side Up next time I am in Chicago.

Birthday Breakfast

By Annopolis001 |

My son took me here for breakfast on my Birthday. The atmosphere was real nice . The food was great, I had scrambled eggs with bacon and toast. The service was great. The server was very professional and friendly, so was the entire staff. We went back for breakfast two days later and we had the same server and she remembered us. Made me feel well at home. I highly recommend this place! Great service guys!

Wonderful breakfast/brunch

By TheTravelistas |

We had breakfast/brunch here every morning during our one week stay in Chicago. The menu has something for everyone and the atmosphere is so relaxing - sitting outdoors under the shady trees as birds perch on the planter boxes and sometimes even on your chair. Staff was very pleasant and accommodating. Indoor seating also available but we took advantage of the nice weather and dined outdoors.

Nice breakfast place

By Explorer643827 |

Nice place in downtown Chicago with if walking distance from Michigan ave. Great food and great service

There’s a reason there’s always a line to get in!

By Ronni B |

Stuffed French toast & PB&J French toast were to die for & worth every single calorie! There’s always a line, but it moves quickly. We ate at an outdoor table on a beautiful day!

Lovely breakfast

By Kelly B |

Popular place - we got there early mid week and it filled up quickly. Good menu choice and reasonably priced. Very transparent as it says all over the menu that they will add 18% to the bill which they did. We didn’t mind that as it saved us having to work it out as trying to get to grips with how much we should be tipping. Would return - food was lovely.

A nice choice for breakfast

By Antityco |

They automatically add gratuity, which takes that annoyance out of your experience. Having said that, the service was fine. We sat outside on a nice summer morning. They have trees there and it was quite pleasant. The food was good. We'd go back.

Great Breakfast!

By Steve B |

A perfect breakfast benedict! Nice atmosphere, warm service and great food - how could it be better?

Skip the Avo Toast

By T L |

Most disappointing avocado toast I’ve had in a while. I could make a similar product in my dorm room - basic bread from a sleeve (barely toasted), processed avocado spread like you buy at the grocery store, a few pieces of wilted arugula, and 1 of 2 poached eggs were hard boiled. Best to take your money and buy those ingredients yourself, at least you’d get more than two slices that way.

Charming spot for breakfast or brunch

By Sooz830 |

Fantastic spot for breakfast or brunch. Friendly, attentive staff, beautiful setting and delicious food. Portion sizes are large enough to share, which makes prices very reasonable.

Average

By Cemy61 |

Food is just fast food style prepared food. Nothing special about it! If you have to wait more than 10 minutes to be seated it is not worth it. I ordered Sunny’s Southern Style Breakfast and all I got was a scrambled eggs, quick defrosted biscuits swimming in a “goo” called gravy! And real bad sausages.

Delicious Gem!

By Faith F |

We had a fabulous breakfast in this adorable restaurant! The food was fresh and delicious with more than ample portions! We wanted some place with character and it had it! So happy to have found this gem!! Servers were friendly and efficient. We would absolutely come back again when in Chicago.

Always sunny at sunny side up

By John C |

Stumbled onto this place walking back to hotel one day. Wish I stumbled earlier! Great food and great staff. Brian the owner knows how to treat people and the only two things he will interrupt it for is a friendly dog and the local priest!! Im perfectly OK with both of those. All the food looked picture perfect when delivered. I had the sweet potato waffle!! You read that right it was awesome. Went back the next day for a steak and egg skillet!! Well done Brian.

Great service, options for everyone

By Ana S |

The service was good. The menu has a variety of options to choose from. Food was tasty. Short waiting time.

Brunch

By Michael T |

I like giving my business to small businesses and every now and then I discover a gem. Regular menu but done well, I can tell it's family operated, I like it.

Best breakfast

By Nkem O |

The quality of the food was 5/5. Very tasty and nice atmosphere. The waitress was very pleasant. One of the best breakfasts I’ve had in Chicago so far. 18% gratuity is very clearly added as stated on the menu and the bill.

Loud music at breakfast....

By CaptTrouble |

My husband and I went here for breakfast before setting off on a day of exploration. My husband had read good reviews of the breakfasts here and the restaurant was only a couple of blocks from where we were staying on the Magnificent Mile. We arrived and were seated immediately at a table in the back. At first it was a good location although stuffy and warm. There was another couple near us who were speaking in soft voices. Violet was our server and we got coffees immediately. Then somebody turned on the music. OMG. VERY loud acoustic cafe-emo music. The kind of music that works very well in the background but was at a very high level in the back of the restaurant. We considered moving to the front, but there were some really odd people there and we decided to stay where we were. After all, we had just sat down, gotten our coffee, and placed our orders. We really didn't feel like being jerks and dirtying another table. So we asked our server if the music could be turned down. She told us that the manager had a policy that the sound levels couldn't be altered. She was very nice about it and tried extra hard to please us with service. But there is one thing I have to say: the manager must be DEAF. And, what an idiotic policy! As we discovered later, the music was more reasonable in the front of the restaurant. Neither of us blew out our hearing at concerts; we always wore hearing protection no matter how uncool it was. I was stunned to think that anyone considered that volume normal, especially for breakfast. Anyway, my husband ordered The Chicago Way, 2 eggs, 2 sausage links, American-fried potatoes, and toast ($13). I got the Corned Beef hash with 2 over easy eggs ($14). Our coffees were $3 each. The food was good overall, but my hash had more of a pickled flavor than what I really like. But the quality was good. We ate our food *promptly* and took the bill up to the front to pay. I stood in the doorway because even the music in the front of the restaurant was pretty high, and the whole restaurant was HOT. There had been a fan standing in the back of the restaurant that could've been turned on but wasn't. We felt that we had already complained about the noise, excuse me "music," and didn't feel we could keep complaining. Violet is the only reason this rating is a 3 and not lower. And, the food was decent too. But I just wouldn't go back.

Went back each morning in Chicago and tried something else on the menu. The breakfasts were delicious and freshly prepared. Coffee had body. Service wonderful.

Sweet Brunch Find

By Kelli P |

We were looking for a brunch place before we left town and lucked upon Sunnyside Up. From the minute we checked in with the hostess until we left, we felt at home. Angie was out waitress and she was wonderful. The food was delicious, especially the cinnamon roll pancakes. We would definitely go back again.

No sunny side

By Johnny |

Service was slow, server dribbled coffee all over the table. The server was just rude and raised her voice when I was asking for a restroom for my child. Food relative to other places just mediocre

Yummy breakfast close to Mag Mile

By Katie Y |

Great location near several hotels, prompt service, reasonable serving size, and fair price! Friendly staff, and tasty food!

Deliciously Devine

By amburr7 |

My husband I took a weekend trip to Chicago to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. He found Sunny Side Up online and we walked from our hotel on Sunday morning. I had tea and my husband enjoyed coffee. He ordered the stuffed French toast and I had eggs The Chicago way. Everything was delicious! My meal was hot and light. The eggs and potatoes perfectly cooked without a sense of heavy diner food. My husband’s meal was gorgeous! I was rather jealous until he scooped up a portion and slid it onto my plate. The toast had the exact balance of crisp and softness, the berries extremely fresh and bright, and the cream perfectly portioned. I had to restrain the urge to lick the plate after! Our server was very attentive and the owner a delight to chat with as we exited. Highly recommend!

Yummy yummy yummy!

By Bella C |

Wonderful place with outdoor seating on a beautiful day. The eggs benedict, omelette with pancakes & avocado egg toast with waffles soooo yummy. Our waiter was on top of things and very pleasant. Great way to start the day!

It's good, but quite expensive

By Leslie S |

Honestly the food was fine. It wasn't amazing but you could go anywhere & find something similar. It is quite expensive for breakfast. We were a family of four that had: three orders of pancakes with sausage or bacon & one breakfast with eggs, turkey sausage & 1 biscuit with gravy. We had a milk, juice, coffee & a coke. It was $109 after tip. And the 18% gratuity is automatically added to the bill. So service doesn't necessarily matter. Our server forgot our drinks initially. We asked for a couple of things after food was served & they were never brought. I just think $109 is quite astronomical for breakfast that tastes fine, but isn't amazing. The real MVP of this place is the guy who serves the food walking down staircases repeatedly with a big tray & never dropped anything.

Great Place for Breakfast or Lunch

By Joe C |

Off the beaten path but worth the trip to find it. Its a building from the 1900's that has been converted into a very cool breakfast place. Different types of egg dishes, waffles etc.. You can also sit outside and enjoy your breakfast. We went there twice - it was that good.

Great variety, excellent food, Gluten Free options

By Julie C |

Our regular breakfast place closed during the pandemic and we were struggling to find somewhere to take walk ups without a 2 hour wait. This place was near our hotel and will now be our regular breakfast choice when we are in Chicago. They have a wide variety of dishes, a few you don't regularly see, and include several Gluten Free options (including pancakes & waffles). We all loved our food and would highly recommend adding this place to your breakfast choices. Inside & outside seating available but you may have to wait longer for outside, You can give your name, get an estimate on the wait and come back close to that time.

Terrible service!

By Yadira P |

Our server was super rude! She decided she wasn’t going to serve us because she couldn’t understand us. She told another waitress to take our order. Our entire time there was figuring out who should we ask for things, we felt like we weren’t welcome and that serving our table was a burden.

Great Breakfast

By Michael L |

We had an awesome breakfast there. Cute little place that looks like it was once a house. Service was great. Big portions and food tasted amazing.

Family breakfast

By Erw2126 |

We got there at the right time on a Sunday morning. We took the table by the door so we could get breakfast and started with our day. Angela stayed on the people coming in to close the door so we didn’t totally freeze. That was really the only reason for 4/5. Our choice to take the table though. Omelettes were large and filling. The kids enjoyed waffles, French toast and cinnamon pancakes. We had full bellies to carry us on our long, cold walk through Chicago for the day.

Good for breakfast

By EllenChr |

Very nice local place to have breakfast. Their poached eggs were great. The service was very attentive and I loved the homely feeling.

Really good and genuine American Breakfast!

By -Daniel- |

Inviting and nice breakfast and lunch place. Family atmosphere with large and good selection. Here the whole family found something good to eat and we returned with joy. Try Sunny's chesse sandwiches!

Best Hash & Salmon platter

By Neal M |

What a great breakfast we had. I had the corned beef hash which was delicious and my wife had the salmon platter which was also delicious. The service was very efficient as the staff worked as a team. Everyone was so nice and we are adding this to our breakfast stops in Chicago.

Charming and Delicious!

By Vanessa |

This was the perfect spot for breakfast! Lovely brownstone house converted into a restaurant! The original staircase winds up three floors with dining on each floor. We love the nostalgia and the food and service was excellent! I highly recommend the Mexican Eggs Benedict!

The humble little place in Chicago

By angie p |

I have nothing bad to say about this place. The service we received was superb. The coffee never got low, everyone had a smile, and the food was amazing. It was just the best meal we had while in Chicago. We will never forget how welcomed we felt. We will be recommending this place to others.

Delicious and delightful!

By DSep1997 |

Great location - fantastic food! Perfect for our last morning! We tried some specials - the lemon ricotta cream on a waffle and the sweet potato waffle with spinach, fried egg and avocado! Great setting, highly recommend!

Great find!

By bclarke292 |

We were looking for a little quieter place and found it! We sat outside and enjoyed a delicious breakfast. Food was great and service perfect.

Good brunch spot

By Adamj7777 |

Good late brunch location, really nice menu and nice food. Good friendly service from the staff. Nice terrace on. The street which is great to sit out with good weather.

Friendly staff and good food

By Lisa N |

We came here for breakfast. The food was really good, the personnel really friendly and the price-quality was great too.

Delicious and different for breakfast.

By Janet H |

We ate outside on a beautiful Sunday morning. The skillet egg dish and whole wheat flaxseed pancakes were delicious, a bit different from the usual breakfast while still comfortably familiar. The service was friendly and efficient.

Great Breakfasts!

By Laura M |

This place serves amazing breakfasts. Everything is hot and fresh. I would definitely recommend. We went back the second morning because it was so good

Quick and Delicious!

By kai |

The food came out nice and hot! Everything we had was delicious and the people are nice and friendly!

Quick service, good menu, average breakfast

By Snarth |

We ended up eating 2 breakfasts at this eatery and thought they were OK, but nothing special. The service was quick and friendly, OJ delicious. Not enough beef in the corned beef hash... avocado strangely served in the "shell"... those are really the only complaints. Portions were generous and everything was how we ordered.

Best Breakfast in town!

By Forty40k |

We have been coming for breakfast a few times now, and that is by far the best breakfast. I like out of the ordinary breakfast and they always deliver. The tuscan skillet is delicious and the sunny side up baguette was even better. The owner has agreat personality and I love hearing historical facts. Best Breakfast in town.

Hard to rate higher despite affordable prices.

By Christian P |

Service was good, yet food was average to good. The eggs, bacon and buttermilk pancake combo was good, but wife’s avocado toast was bland. Service was fast and they were kind. If you are looking for affordable prices and regular to good food, this is the place.

One of the few places open at Thanksgiving. Good food, great staff! All the best Brian. A warm kiss from Portugal.

Not to be missed

By RicksterinTroon |

Saw this on trip advisor & wanted to avoid a Starbucks chain breakfast. This is a short walk from hotel. Staff welcoming & friendly, sat outside but quite quiet at 8.30am. Lots of vegetarian choices, extensive breakfast menu. Food was really, really good... ordered breakfast tostados. 3 eggs was a bit unexpected but the presentation & taste was awesome. My husband ordered eggs over avocado, make to his preference. I would highly recommend checking this out, taking all my effort to try other places & not to back again 🤔🤔🤔🤔

Cozy breakfast my fav meal.

By Tammy P |

A very cozy atmosphere. I had the eggs Benedict, my daughter had the avocado spinach and bacon eggs Benedict. Only had plain coffee and no flavored coffee creamer options but that’s just me. Everything else was very yummy.

Great

By Jazmin T |

Great food and great customer service highly recommend ! My boyfriend ordered chilaquiles they were soooo good !! I got the Nutella crepes they were good also.

Arrive Hungry!

By Julian L |

Came upon this superb breakfast/lunch establishment by chance. At 11am there was a small line outside - quite impressive for a restaurant spread over 3 floors. After a short wait we made our way to the top floor and were not disappointed. Food was excellent, staff were very accommodating and attentive and the bill was quite reasonable. Highly recommend!

Oatmeal on a chilly Sunday

By Diane H |

I was looking for a quick bite for brunch on a cold Sunday morning. I saw a group of ladies exiting this restaurant, so asked if they'd recommend it. They did, so that was enough for me. 🙂 I ordered a latte and the oatmeal. Coffee was lovely and oatmeal was yummy too. I asked for a little greek yogurt and the waiter was very happy to oblige. I noticed the meals around me were very large portions, so no one would leave hungry from Sunny Side Up!

Delicious gluten free pancakes!!

By Michelle A |

Decided to come here while on vacation because I read reviews that said they had great gluten free options. I was not disappointed!! I am celiac so I have to play it safe. I ordered a stack of gluten free pancakes with strawberries and nutella and when they arrived to my table I could not believe they were truly gluten free because they looked so good! I had them double check with the kitchen and sure enough these pancakes were legit. Best gluten free pancakes I've had in years!! Excellent service and very attentive to allergies.

disappointed

By Connie D |

Recommended by the hotel concierge so we had high hopes. My latte was great and husbands was mediocre. His dish was great. Mine not so much. 40 minute wait for food to arrive. I asked if the beans were black and was told told yes but came out otherwise. I asked for cilantro to be added and i received a plate with spinach added. When I asked for the correction, a new okate was brought but I was told the kitchen ran out of cilantro. Had I known, I wouls have ordered something else..but I was stuck. oh well.

Perfect start to the day!

By cookie1892 |

Having found this little cafe on Instagram we were excited to sample some of the amazing pancakes!! Breakfast certainly didn’t disappoint and the pancakes were to die for!! Our waiter Eric was extremely attentive and nothing was too much hassle

Very nice. Friendly service.

By JohnandKristy S |

Very nice. Friendly service. Good food. Large portion sizes. I normally clean my plate but this was more than I could eat. I would come again.

Horrible

By janicemarieflygirl |

I was treated horribly this morning at this restaurant. I arrived after two others and a party of four arrived afterwards. Our names were taken in order. The two people that had been ahead of me were called to be seated. They were waiting for two more to arrive yet they were seated. I was next up for a table. The party that arrived after I did were seated next! I felt discriminated against. I assume they did not want a single person eating alone in the front. Was given no explanation when I questioned the circumstances! I have never been treated in such a rude manner. Obviously they didn’t care and I left as I was not about to spend my money in an establishment that would treat me so poorly!

A Must for Breakfast!

By Boris E |

We were fortunate to visit this restaurant during our most recent stay in Chicago, and loved every minute of it. Our waitress was a hoot and provided excellent customer service from beginning to end. Their stuffed French toast is a must and definitely recommend it. Indoor and outside seating options are available as well. It is quite a great restaurant, not only due to its food, but the level of genuine customer service that you get from their team. I will be back in the near future!

Good service, good food, reasonable prices.

By Cristy |

My parents and I went to this restaurant while visiting Chicago. The biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and bacon was amazing! My parents had the grilled chicken and they loved it. Everyone was friendly and service was great. Nice old house (with history) turned into a restaurant. Can't wait to go back!
