This place makes it all homemade bread, hash browns, gravy , thick cut bacon . All cooked to perfection. Great atmosphere and it all depends on who is waiting tables as to how the service is .... i have been there and had the best ever customer service and been there when the service sucked.........for the food i will chance it again when in Portland

Had a great breakfast today. Kristy took wonderful care of us. She told us about their huge cinnamon rolls and we had one to start. Too much to eat but great leftovers for a midnight snack. We both had drinks, bloody mary and a mimosa, which on a Sunday morning with breakfast is just the best! I had the Mexican omelette and my wife had the french toast. Mine was delicious with sour cream, avocado and salsa top, the right amount of spice made it just the best. You can taste the difference in the hash browns because they make them there with fresh potatoes. The french toast we ordered was because Kristy told us it's made with a cinnamon loaf that's baked in house. Actually all the breads are baked in house which is a wow for me. Great food and great service makes this part of our weekly routine.

Biscuits and gravy with eggs and chorizo, really good and one of the very rare times I could not finish a breakfast because the serving was HUGE. A good vegetarian omlet, made wrong at first and cheerfully replaced. Fluffy thick pancakes. And of course great bacon!

Sunny's is located in deep SE Portland, surrounded by ordinary mundane businesses. Nothing sounding their business that would give you an inkling of what spectacular things await you if you give them a chance. This is a damn good restaurant with very well made dish., Love the diner aspect you seldom find in Portland. The food is generous in portions, hot, tasty, and bread is homemade (can also be purchased). Its comfortable, wait staff very friendly, happy and knows how to keep your coffee full. I was totally blown away just goes to show you, "you can't judge a book by it cover". Spread the word for this diamond in the rough.

We went Sunday morning. Might be our first mistake. Food was okay, the server was pleasant. But I witnessed the person clean a table and push a pile of food ( I do mean pile!) onto the floor. It was never cleaned up and other people were immediately seated. It was so loud we could not hear our server. She said it is always like that. If you like a lot of food and don’t care if it is loud and dirty floors, you should try it.

We went for breakfast; I can't say anything about the lunch menu. Most of the choices (I'm assuming) come on a platter like ours did. It is full of wonderful home made hash browns, my bacon was thick and delicious, but the two eggs simply inadequate for the amount of hash browns. The bisquit and homemade toast was very good. The omlet was full of tasty stuff. The prices for most selections were $10+; two breakfasts with tip (no drinks) was $31. So, not cheap but lots of good food for the price. The server (only one) was slow. We were nice to her but impatient people or people in a hurry would have been unhappy; we spent over an hour inside.

This was serendipity! Up from the Bay Area to visit my daughter, I was looking for someplace for breakfast that was close to her place and the hotel. This just happened to be in the right place. My daughter hadn't been there before, it looks like a small chain restaurant. Don't let the appearance fool you, it was wonderful! They make almost everything from scratch, including all the breads and the chorizo, which was absolutely delicious by the way. They have two sizes for most of the breakfasts, big and bigger. Big is really big. We ended up taking half our food home, but not for lack of trying. My daughter's friend ordered the bread pudding, wanting something small. Oh, well... That went home as well. It was delicious, by the way, they use their own breads and make the sauce themselves. Yes, we sampled each others meals and had a hard time deciding which we liked best. The service was excellent. The servers were very nice and helpful with the menu selections. Prices are pretty typical breakfast prices, but the food is definitely a cut above. We'll be back next time I visit.

At Sunny’s you’ll get great food and lots of it! Come hungry because they serve large portions. The food is excellent and the service is great as well. One of our favorite breakfast places. If you like bloody Mary’s, they make those too and they’re great!

Love this place! Fabulous omelets and potatoes. Very friendly staff. We go at least twice a month for breakfast then I took 6 friends for lunch last week. Marvelous.

My wife and I just had lunch at Sunny's during our visit to the Portland area. There is free, off-street parking and the place appears to be clean and fairly well-maintained. The inside is a sort of industrial type of decor and their menu is fairly extensive with a little bit of something for everyone. All of the food we ordered was very good as was the service. They bake most of their own bread and while the bread was very good, I would warn anyone visiting to be aware of what they order as the sliced bread used in the sandwiches is VERY thick. We ended up pulling off most of the bread from our sandwiches because it was just too much. (I ordered a triple decker club sandwich and most of the bread went to waste.) Otherwise, the portions and the food were very good overall and you should enjoy your meal if you visit.

I had the mushroom omelette with hash browns and toast. Be prepared that all the dishes can be ordered “big” or “bigger”. I was only able to eat half. Great breakfast if you are ever in the area.

A wonderful breakfast place where almost everything is made from scratch. They make their own bread and sell some of the products. The French juice is made with their cinnamon bread. It is amazing. The bacon they use is thick slice and has a wonderful smoky flavor. It was so good that I was trying to ascertain where they get it. Portions here are quite large. My corned beef hash portia could’ve easily fed two people. The service is friendly and efficient. One plus is they do have a liquor license which means you can get a wonderful Bloody Mary or Mimosa along with your delectable brunch! My first time here but I’ll be back even though I don’t live close. It’s worth the drive. It is a busy restaurant so be prepared to wait at times.

Went to the Vancouver location….. Terrible Service!!!! We went a couple months ago and the waitress we had was slow and uncaring. She had no sense of urgency and had no hospitality. We decided to give them the benefit of doubt and try again..... bad idea!!!! We got the same waitress. Terrible server. On top of her being absent minded when we asked her to bring us something, she didn't put our order in. We had to ask her twice to bring us creamer and silverware. We noticed 2 tables that ordered their food after us got their food before us. Then we heard her in the back saying the ticket she just placed she needed as a rush. That was our food.... Do u think she came over to apologize???? No!!!! Another waitress came over and told us it was being worked on. The Manager Joe was just as bad, he acted like there was no problem with what we experienced. After being seated for about an hour with no real service and no food, we left without eating. We watched at least 6 other groups waiting to just be seated walk out after she told them she would be right with them and then she took another 5-7 min of ignoring them when they walked out. We literally watched them tell someone it would be just a min to get a table ready outside and it took her 10 min to go unlock the chairs. The service is terrible!!!!! Called the Portland office to see if the owner was there and was told he hadn’t been there in 2 months. Is Sunnys Diner an establishment with an absentee owner? Will the service Ever improve?

We stopped for an early lunch and there was plenty of seating. We had a Monte Cristo which was really good and had a big side of fries on the plate along with a pickle slice. Also had the BLT. It was loaded with thick sliced bacon! Not quite enough tomato for my taste, but good anyway. Thick toasted bread held it all together and there was also a pile of fries and pickle. We asked about the giant cinnamon rolls but they were sold out. It was a little smokey from the grill but clean. Server was very friendly, attentive and helpful.

Went to lunch yesterday for the first time. It's a small diner in a strip mall. The food was O.K. but I feel it was over-priced. Portions were very large. The white bread that came with my breakfast was excellent. While Amanda (our server) tried her best, she was the only one waiting tables. That made for slow service. The atmosphere is noisy. If you like big portions of mediocre food, this is the place for you.

So lucky to happen upon this place while passing thru town. The food was delicious! I ordered the cinnamon bread toast w/sugar free syrup. It was exceptional! Our waitress (Chantell) was super nice & even sold me a loaf of freshly baked cinnamon bread so that could share my experience w/my family back home. Good service. Good food. Nice clean setting. Yes I will be back when in town.

We found Sunny's during this past Portland Burger Week. What a terrific burger. Sunny's demented take on the traditional pimento cheeseburger. This half-pound burger was served on a homemade bun and smothered with a spicy, smoky cheese spread made with bacon and caramelized onion along with chipotle and habanero peppers. It was my favorite of SIX burger week burgers sampled!!! We took home a cinnamon bun that was about 10 x 6 inches, It too was delicious. We will be back!!!!

So a buddy and I stopped in for breakfast one morning for breakfast before a meeting. We got there when they opened, so we were the first ones down! I ordered the Ultimate Scramble, a cup of joe and inquired about the size of the “GINOURMOUS (as the menu said) cinnamon roll. Our waitress said “it’s as big as my face” as she circled her face with her finger........ I said “no wayyyyyy”, so she went and got one so I could see, DAMNED!!!!! It was as big as her face! So I got one to go (smile). With my scramble I also got my choice of bread, I know what you’re saying, you get that everywhere, but I took the cinnamon roll toast, again, ohhhh my. They make all of their bread there and this toast was incredible, I would have liked to have tried a bunch of the bread, but when she brought out the plate, I knew it was going to be a struggle. It was.......but it wasnt (cuz it was so good). So in closing, if you live in the foodie PDX area and you are a breakfast person, you gotta go, I’m sure on the weekend this place is packed, but hang out, it’ll be worth the wait. I know I’ll be back and I will definitely swing by for the “big as my face” cinnamon roll! You will not leave hungry and you won’t be dissapointed.

This place is a must. Everything is so fresh and our server Jocelyn was so sweet and helpful!! The Mexican omelette was phenomenal with fresh chorizo and the cinnamon French toast was amazing as well!!! Can’t praise enough!

Sunny's is like a throw back diner serving gigantic portions for breakfast. The food was okay but nothing extremely memorable to make me think I have to get back to this place. The service was poor. The place was packed, but it should not have been that slow.If you like gigantic portions you will like it if you have the patience to wait, if you don't then you should go elsewhere.

This was a 50's type diner until fairly recently. They then changed it to more of a country style and the new owners have a great new staff, brightened things up and have a better menu with much better prices!
Better and BIGGER than Average?!
I was leery after reading some reviews.... I kept reading about LARGE and HUGE portions. I have to admit "LARGE" portions seem to get higher reviews, but I always want to know about quality vs quantity. Large is great, but is it GOOD. Open, airy space with a homey feel. Busy. Service was a little slow, they apparently needed more servers? But, staff was very friendly. Honestly, the portions are LARGE! They make their own breads and desserts. I refrain from using the word "SCRATCH" because its over used, and I really can't authenticate this claim. During our breakfast, we had a Biscuit and Wheat Bread. The Biscuit was a very dense Gut Buster! I'd say it was a little to dense for my taste. Wheat Bread was soft and flavorful. They appear to have some huge omelettes, but we don't usually order omelettes. Others choices looked pretty good. Choices are more on the 'old School diner' types. No Eggs Benedict or the like. We're going to review their Pork Chop/Egg and Chicken Fried Steak/egg entree's. The Pork Chop had great flavor... Marinaded in what tastes like a herb, white wine? Tasty! Unfortunately, they asked how I wanted my eggs cooked, but not my Pork Chop... Maybe, partially my fault. I order my eggs, over-medium. They were closer to over easy, but close! The Pork Chop was over cooked, tough and kinda dry. The marinade saved it. Hash browns basically covered the entire plate! Has Browns were well cooked! Crispy outside, firm inside and not greasy. This is the way they should cooked! Egg was large and tasty. Chicken Fried Steak. Same plate covered with Hash Browns... Chicken Fried Steak was buried in Country Gravy. Eggs were tasty, but also slightly inconsistent with requested finish. We love a good Chicken Fried Steak! Hand Breaded (as the state), the breading is good. Both Meat and breading had basic seasoning, salt and pepper. Country Gravy was rather flavorless with a hint of... Jimmy Deanish type sausage. It could have been amped up just a bit. Coffee was surprisingly lacking in flavor... All this might sound like a negative review, but it's really not... It's kind of a Hit or Miss type of meal..... While the Wheat bread was real good, the Biscuit was a dense dry sponge. The Pork Chop had wonderful flavoring, but was overcooked. The Chicken Fried Steak was cooked well, but Gravy lacked some depth of flavor and seasoning. Hash Browns were great and eggs were good. If we had to rate on 10 scale, it would be a 6.5. Pushing these meals to a Very Good level wouldn't be that difficult... Maybe next time? There will be a next time... ....and yes.... the portions are large... but I don't give higher ratings for that...
