Best Hot Dog in Chicago

By Elizabeth M |

Superdawg is my favorite place to get a hot dog in Chicago. The "Superdawg" hot dog is bigger than your average dog and the flavor is awesome. They nestle the superdawg in a box with crinkle fries that are also some of the best I've ever had. Add a chocolate shake and you'll be in heaven!

Retro Cool

By Laura I |

Just a fluke that we stopped here to eat on our way back to the airport. Old school, park your car order your food and its brought to your car on a tray. Food was excellent and the prices were right!!! Fresh, Hot and Cheap and we really enjoyed all of the retro touches that had been maintained. A great mom and pop stop!

it is not steak

By John G |

It's a hot dog people. Chicago has so many great hot dog joints that are just as good or better for much less. Their PR person is a genious to make people think this is so much better than other places. The price is way to high for what you get. Do not believe the hype and support the place near your home...It's a hot dog!!!!

What a Dawg!

By Sandra P |

Take one small box, cram a poppy seed bun in it, drop in a super dawg,(pure beef) add mustard, piccalilli ( or not), onion and a full size dill spear on top, with a pepper too; now bury it in French fries, not just any fries, but their Superfries! That's a SuperDawg. Ketchup is forbidden...no dawg loving person would even think of asking for Ketchup! This Drive In establishment specializes in quick but good eats. Old fashioned, drive in with order boxes in the heart of old Chicago. Serving dawgs since 1948, it's a Chicago Icon that many try to mimic...don't be fooled, be sure to search out the original and by all means try a SuperDawg! It's a hot dog (oops...a SuperDawg) folks....just a really fun place to get one!

Amazing retro carhop

By Aaron G |

I'm from Chicago and had never gone to this place until last night. I had heard all the hype--and I'm glad to say, Superdawg definitely lived up to it! -The barhop was very friendly and attentive -The Superdawg was delicious--classic Chicago dog with the fun addition of a pickled green tomato -Fries were delicious! Could've eaten 3 more orders! (Glad I didn't :) ) -Got a fantastic vanilla malt Can't wait to go back (after a couple workouts!)

long line but worth the wait

By cbears59 |

Stopped here as we were looking for a quick but decent spot. This place was both! The line to order was long but moved along quick. The hot dog was very good and the fries good too. The pickle was a nice add on and overall everyone was pleased with their food.

Very good “regular” fast food hot dogs

By Sunshine827087 |

I found it very good, it is not the fancy/special type of hot dogs, but an excellent regular fast food hot dog. Same goes for the “super”fries. I can’t comment on the ambience of the restaurant as I got it delivered.

Perfect late night snack after a movie

By Allen21096 |

We stopped at Superdawg Drive-in on our way home after seeing "The Fate of the Furious". They are open late which is very convenient and they are located on the southeast corner of Milwaukee Ave. & Devon Ave. at Nagle Ave. It is one of two and this being the first Superdawg opened in 1948. The newer, second one is in Wheeling. It is a 1950's style retro drive-in with car hops. They do have an order window that you can walk up to, but you know if you are going to a drive-in restaurant, why not go all out and order through the speaker and let the carhop do the work. We each ordered a hot dog, one without fries and without peppers, but we also ordered the Superonionchips. A Superdawg is in a box on a poppy seed bun and dressed with golden mustard, tangy bright green piccalilli, a kosher dill pickle, chopped Spanish onions, and a hot pepper. The crinkle-cut French fries are also in the box. Our carhop was quite personable and efficient. A great light late night snack.

Started by a returning World War 2 Veteran

By THINGS2LIVE4 |

This is a classic car hop restaurant was opened in 1948 by a returning World War 2 veteran. You have to park in a car hop spot if you want take out. Next time, I would like to try the deserts. I had a SuperDawg with all the toppings and fried vegetables.

HOTDOGS

By John R |

Very good hotdog. I had everything on the dawg. The hot peppers were spicy but woody. My sharp teeth couldn't cut threw the pulp of the pepper. I ate the dawg on site. With all the good stuff on the dawg, I suspect traveling any distance will mush up the bun.

Delicious

By Sescenee W |

We went to Superdawg after my brother told us about it. Everyone enjoyed their food. My hubby really enjoyed the chili. I loved my Chicago dog. Superdawg was very busy, but service was good.

Oh My Yumm!!

By Yolylinda |

My first stop when I landed in Chicago was Superdawg, why you ask? Because I was hungry and remember watching a lot of shows on the travel channel that raved about this place. It was kind of close to the airport so I took my chance. Let me tell you, all those host at the travel channel raving about this place were absolutely right. We had the Original Superdawg, just like in the picture, and it didn't disappoint. I would highly recommend to try them.

Fun

By Lance B |

Ran across this place by accident on our way home from a soccer tournament. My daughter had a unusual grilled cheese that was on a burger bun. My Superdawg was really good. Great toppings with an awesome flavored dog. Could've had more fries with it. Free refills on drinks.

It's hyped a bit

By Monte C |

Food was good but it was a bit on the expensive side for what it is. there's quite a bit of nostalgia that goes with it but it's not much more than another hot dog joint

Mother daughter trip

By Yash C |

Real Chicago dog with hand cut fries freshly made. How can you go wrong. Pair it with the famous black qou ( root bear float ). The place is a bit out of downtown Take the blue line to the closest spot and then call uber or Lyft Worth a visit. Still craving for another dog.

VINTAGE GLADSTONE PARK ATTRACTION with Car-Hop Service

By charlesthebarles |

Nationally-known as one of the few places in America still with car-hop service just like when it opened in 1948. People come from all over the country and the world to have the experience in the Gladstone Park neighborhood. Even if you don't want one of Chicago's top-rated hotdogs and fries, visit to see the mid-century spaceship-like architecture and the roof-top hotdog icons named after the original owners. A BLAST FROM THE PAST!

Good food, addictive fries!

By ziggy2720 |

A great classic spot for hot dogs, the fries are beyond good, burgers are really good too, a little pricey, but if you get a groupon deal, way better deal and food then the usual spots for fast food! Green tomatoe with your sandwich is a unique throwback too!

The best there is........

By Mags boy S |

The best there was, and the best there will be in the future. No sarcasm meant. Even though this is my fav, I’m not being biased. A must see if In the area. Highly recommend.

Wont be back

By STEVEN B |

My wife lived in the neighborhood when she was a kid and I lived nearby. It had been about 50 years since we were here last. Very disappointed in the food and the atmosphere. Yes the area is much more built up then we remembered so the place is not a prominent fixture as it used to be. The place is rusted and deteriorated and lends to a less than favorable atmosphere to eat in and the hot dog was mediocre at best.

Awesome!

By Jazseven |

Our first time here! We had a bit of a wait for a car spot but was gals we waited. One of the best hotdogs I have ever had! It's an awesome old time drive in type place with tons of good eats! Perfect for a family outing. Just make sure to ask for ketchup and extra napkins! Will definitely be planning a trip back!

Consistent quality & friendly service

By Allen21096 |

I was in the neighborhood of Superdawg Drive-in and decided to stop for lunch. About 75% of the car spots were filled. I ordered a supercheesie without fries, as well as a black kow. The car hop (#4) brought the food quickly. The burger and black Kow tasted great. Car hop #4 returned to pick up the tray. She was friendly and personable - sorry, I should have asked her name.

Always Consistent and Great

By D D |

The best Dawg in Chicago! Always steamed perfectly and topped well. The green tomatoes took me years to try but now I eat it first, yummy. Nicely packed in its box with fries.

LOVEDDDDD IT

By moodyb3152 |

A great dog. A throwback to the 50's drive ins. A fun place to eat. This all describes Superdawg. I have seen it featured on a few food network shows, so I had to find it and give it a try. Who puts a whole pickle on a hot dog? They do and many other tasty toppings. You have to try it.

Real Chicago experience!

By Moreno_chicago |

Real Chicago experience! Loving their hot dogs and fries. Old style drive in experience. Very very good

Fun nostalgic drive-in experience!

By Marianne F |

We wanted to try a Chicago style hot dog on our road trip and discovered Superdawg which was very enjoyable. It is probably the most expensive hot dog we have ever purchased, but it was very tasty!

Give it a try!

By MrsMcBurney |

We had the whoopskidog and strawberry milkshake. My husband gave it an ok rating, I liked mine and thought it was good.

Horrible

By Mimy K |

Do not go here! I know it is an iconic place. We did not return after 4 years because of getting ripped off on food and burnt fries. It happened again, we were trying to support our local school today because they gave 20% back to the school. However, we ordered Chili to go with the hot dogs, did not get the chili for $10.50 for 2, and our fries were burnt again. Never going back.

What up Dawg

By Lead2829 |

Nice stop on our way to Wisconsin. After a little hiccup with the order, they figured out six Superdawgs are not 2. The fries are fantastic. I thought the dogs were a little small, but everything was tasty.

Chicago icon!

By DisneyTraveler21 |

Superdawg is so good with their hot dogs, crinkle fries, and shakes! A must stop. The drive up order booths are fun! However, it is a little pricey for a hot dog meal and a coke. But, still it is an icon, so it is a must stop!

Great Chicago style dogs

By busterpfd90 |

Nothing bad to say. Had a group of four, two of which had never had a Chicago style and everyone loved them. Everything was fresh, service was fast and the price wasn't bad.

Best dogs in Chicago

By Navigator35328936090 |

One of the best hotdog places in Chicago…..way way way before Portillos A special treat when ever we’re in the area

A fun place and a Chicago institution

By Allen21096 |

It was a warm sunny afternoon and we just wanted a hot dog, so we stopped at Superdawg, since we were close by. We ordered the Superdawg. When it arrives in its little box, it comes with a pickled green tomato and a pickle, along with crinkled fries. The Superdawg is dressed with mustard, bright green relish and diced onions. You can also get hot peppers with it, when you order. If you like ketchup on your hot dogs, they do bring ketchup for your fries, so have at it for the dawg! An interesting thing that they do is that if you order the sandwiches without the fries, you save about $2.30, so you can get the onion chips instead, if you wanted an alternative. We also ordered a black kow (a root beer float), and they do bring you extra root beer. It is a fun place and a throwback to the past with car hops bringing out the food and trays on the windows. Our car hop, #6, was very personable and was efficient, as well. Enjoy!

Best hot dogs in Chicago!!

By Eddieb45 |

It's quiet a drive from downtown buts well worth it!! The dog is way bigger than the average dog is downtown. The atmosphere is amazing the service is fast and friendly. The inside was packed with people so we ate in our car.

Not worth the trip iconic? or NOT

By jturuc |

I wanted to try this place due to its notoriety, but I was not impressed whatsoever, and I was starving when I went. Sad because I wanted to like it :(

75th anniversary x 2

By James M |

I searched online for favorite places to get a REAL Chicago hotdog and Superdawg was often mentioned. So next time we visited our son in Chicago we went to Superdawg. Turns out we were both celebrating 75 years in July. The drive-in was busy about 2 on a Sunday, but our order was handled fast and efficient. That big dog was resting comfortably on the bun and covered with toppings, cozy in the paper container with the fries. Vanilla shake was also tasty. I salute Superdawg on 75 years! Looking (and tasting) good.

Cute place and a great chicago dog!

By we_out |

The set up was a bit confusing. We drove up and push the button, but nothing happened. This was our first drive-in. We decided to go inside. There was a line but it move quickly. Ordered the superdawg with everything including peppers. The wait at the pickup window was long...maybe 15 minutes, which I thought was strange for a hotdog. Anyway the hotdog was tasty.

Ok if live in the neighborhood

By Beverly T |

Historical place with nice story. We purchased Groupon and had to travel a bit to get there. Very crowded. Food ok. Car hop brought back memories. Would not make the drive again as there are many hot dog places to choose from.

Really good

By LostInTime |

I went here with my kids. It’s been over 25 years since I went. I honestly remembered not liking it. This time the service was good. The hot dogs and fries were perfect. Well done.

I Don't Get It

By Dbax |

Drove all the way from the south side to try this place. Cool building, but that's about it. The hot dog is exactly the same as I could make at QT gas station back in Arizona. I'm not kidding. And that one only costs a buck. These dogs are not Vienna Beef which is a necessity when making a Chicago dog.

Definitely worth the trip

By 3rdCoastHighlander |

We dropped our kids at college and decided to give Superdawg a shot. Being from out of state, Ive been wanting to try the place. We enjoyed the experience. The Chicago dog was excellent. The service was quick and our food was delivered with a smile and quick conversation in spite of the rain. We will definitely return. Great experience!

Tasty Food

By Mags boy S |

Got to go with my family here in Chicago. We try to visit them yearly at least but it’s harder with COVID. Fresh food and tasty fries. Hot dog is made of 100% as far as I can tell. Gotta visit this place. God bless.

Legendary, iconic, one-of-a-kind, a hot dog like no other

By Taylor B |

Maurice and Flaurie Berman, the co-founders of Superdawg Drive-In at 6363 North Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago, at the corner of Milwaukee, Devon and Nagle, are gone. But the legendary, iconic, one-of-a-kind hot dog stand they founded in 1948, with car hop service, a Chicago-style hot dog like no other and the traditional figures on the roof are still there. My wife and I have been making periodic trips to Superdawg since we got married in the 1970s. But friends have been loyal customers since the 1950s. A trip to Superdawg recalls memories of the 1950s, when drive-ins and car hops were so popular, when you drove your father's car for the first time and took a date along. We recently drove up North Milwaukee Avenue to get our monthly Superdawg fix. Superdawg isn't a weiner or frankfurter or red hot. It's a slab of juicy pure beef that is bigger than any other hot dog, no pork or veal or cereal or filler of any kind, with all the trimmings--mustard, piccalilli, Kosher dill pickle, chopped Spanish onions and hot peppers on a poppy seed bun. With an order of Super Fries. And wash it all down with a chocolate milk shake and large mug of root beer. Eating in your car never tasted so good.

Dinner

By Mags boy S |

We visit this place every time we are in town. The taste is still very good and we will continue to come visit here every time we are in town if you want a good hot dog come here you get what you pay for. The fries and onion petals are good as well.

Best hot dog in the city

By limshin |

They make the perfect Chicago hot dog. I believe they get their dogs specially made and they are delicious. Their fries are also crispy and yummy. Occasionally, I will treat myself to a delicious chocolate malt or brown cow with the meal.

super !!? mmmm

By Mustafa A |

okay now this is a great hotdog place but not that super. but still that does’nt mean you should’nt try it, i highly recommend this place the taste won’t let you down. try the original hotdog yummmyyyy

Fun place

By IowaTravellinGuy |

A friend said this was a must for a Chicago landmark and to try a Chicago dog. I have to admit it was cool to have my picture taken in front of it and it had a real 50s feel. Food was good. Hotdogs, fries and shakes.

One of the best ever

By JordanS8 |

Whenever I come to Chicago a stop at Superdawg is a must. Native and former Chicagoans May argue to infinity who has the best hotdog in Chicago. Of course there is no one correct answer but Superdawg always has to be in the mix. Heaven on a bun.

Classic Chicago

By Rcr883 |

Went today for lunch. First the place is iconic Americana. But the good was good, old time walk up order, sit on a table outside. The dog was good, tasty, and I was surprised I liked the fries, but they were crisp and fresh ( they are crinkle cut send I usually don't like thoes) If you are in town thus is a cool stop.

The BEST Food Ever!

By SHERRIA W |

We had the Superdawg, Grilled Cheese, and Superburger and they were DELICIOUS. The milk shakes are TO DIE FOR and the ice cream is amazing. The service was awesome and everyone enjoyed. The prices are very reasonable as well.

Tasty

By deliah_wilson |

After driving past this place for nearly three weeks, we finally caved in and visited. There wasn't an empty parking bay in sight when we came and yet the service was fast and the food was delicious. My only complaint is that the way they packed the hot dog and chips into the box made it pretty hard to actually get at the hot dog.

Real Chicago Fast Food

By BeeJay809 |

Real Chicago Fast Food hot dog stand. Original old school style amazing location. Its like no other building

Good selection for a light late lunch

By Allen21096 |

We stopped at Superdawg for hot dogs after seeing a movie at a nearby theatre. We just thought hot dogs in the car would work. We ordered three dogs, all without fries and an order of onion chips. One of the hot dogs had everything including peppers, one had everything, and my 3 yr. old granddaughter's was plain as she wanted just catsup on it. Price was reasonable. The carhop was very efficient and friendly.

Really Good Plain Hot Dog

By terrijo58 |

I got two dogs - one with everything and one with just mustard. I just really hated the Chicago style hot dog. There was too much on it to allow the flavor of the hot dog through. The hot dog with just mustard was delicious. I also got the chili and that was really good too. I guess it's a matter of taste. The fries are the worst ever.

The loveliest, juiciest creation of a pure beef hot dog

By Taylor B |

Once you have visited Superdawg Drive-In, you'll never forget the experience...the iconic signage, the Chicago-style hot dog that is ranked No. 3 in the nation by one survey, the fries, the milk shakes, the sodas, the chili, the car hops, the tradition. Located at 6363 North Milwaukee Avenue on Chicago's northwest side, at Devon and Nagle, it is a nationally known hot dog stand that dates to 1948. The original owners, Maurice and Flaurie Berman, are gone. But the family continues the tradition. They serve a superior pure beef hot dog...no pork, no veal, no cereal, no filler...and it's dressed with all the trimmings--golden mustard, tangy piccalilli, kosher dill pickle, chopped Spanish onions and hot pepper on a poppy seed bun. Wash it down with a pint of double rich chocolate or real fruit strawberry-flavored milk shake or a frosty mug of root beer. Or a soda with scoops of ice cream in a pool of chocolate topped with whipped cream and cherries. My wife and I have been enjoying Superdawgs since we moved to downtown Chicago in the 1970s. The good taste never goes away. Superdawg Drive-In is open from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. From the day shift to the late-night shift, it never gets old.

Great hot dogs!

By Michelle T |

Superdawg was the first meal we had in Chicago after a 4.5 hour drive in from Michigan. We came in on the recommendation of a Chicago-native who swears it’s the best “Chicago-style” hot dog in the city. It’s definitely far from the main city area and not in a scenic neighborhood at all. But I have to admit, it was a pretty darn good hot dog. We both got their Superdawg, which is a beef hot dog served on a poppy seed bun with golden mustard, tangy piccalilli, kosher dill pickle, chopped Spanish onions, and hot pepper under a handful of Superfries. For $5.90, I think it was a really good deal. We were both super full from the hot dog, which was juicy and tasty. Service was quick and efficient – they really have their method down pat.

From one dog family to the other.

By dwarfnose |

This is such a treat. Superdawg is fun, friendly and delicious! The dogs, burgers, cheesie sandwich, fries, onion chips and shakes are a delight. I used to take my wife and daughter all the time and now moved away, when I visit, I Superdawg it! And I have to say I do come from a hot dog family, so my benchmark is high. Thanks for a great time Superdawg!

It isn't a hot dog, it's a Superdawg

By Taylor B |

It's been a while since my wife and I drove up to the corner of Milwaukee, Devon and Nagle to visit the Superdawg Drive-In. Founded in 1948, it is a legend, an icon, one-of-a-kind, as much a part of Chicago as Wrigley Field and Navy Pier and Oak Street Beach. Where else can you drive in, find a parking spot under a canopy, phone in your order, then wait for a car hop to deliver your Superdawgs, Superfries and milk shakes? A Superdawg isn't a wiener or frankfurter or red hot. It's a specially made, juicy pure beef hot dog that is bigger than any other hot dog--no pork or veal or cereal or filler--with all the trimmings, including mustard, piccalilli, Kosher dill pickle, chopped Spanish onions and hot pepper on a poppy seed bun. With the crispy and fresh Superfries, it all comes neatly packaged. Of course, there are other options, such as a char-broiled Polish sausage, boneless breast of chicken, shrimp sandwich, fish sandwich, grilled cheese, hamburger and cheeseburger. Wash them all down with shakes, malts, sodas, Black Kows, sundaes, root beer, Coke or lemonade. Superdawg Drive-In presents a unique experience, from the time you arrive until you leave, that is different from any other. And if you don't want to drive into the city, Superdawg has another location in Wheeling.

memories

By piergirl27777 |

One of the few drive-ins left in Chicago..I've been going there since the 50"s and now that I live in Florida I only get to go when I visit family. My daughter has brought me hot dogs on the plane when they had an outlet at Midway . My mouth waters just thinking about biting into the worlds best burger, fries and pickle..I'll take Superdawg before any 5 star restaurant on the planet......

A neighborhood tradition

By Daniel K |

My son took me here because I am a big fan of A competitor of theirs. This place has just as good a hot dog, only different. It is a superdawg. They also have burgers, tamales, chili, shrimp, chicken grilled cheese, shakes, fish, and a lot more!! They are just missing Italian beef. I would definitely eat here or drive through again!

Great Chicago Dogs!

By Brandon Godward |

Cute old-school drive-in serving great Chicago dogs. I read about this place in the book 1,000 things to see before you die. Happy to finally check it out in person. It's a drive-in, so you park your car and order from your car window. They also have a walk-up counter. Ordered a super dog with all the fixings. Spicy, sweet, tasty. Great hot dog. Compared to Portillos this is a much more authentic Chicago dog. I liked how they give you a pickled green tomato chunk, instead of the traditional tomato slices. I wish more places would do that. The vanilla shake was good. I also liked the super onion chips. Highly recommend.

Forget “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”: It’s Breakfast at SUPERDAWG!

By Arthur P |

Being Chicago natives, my wife & I went to Chicago for a mini vacation the week of 9/27/21. Chicago is, as we all know, a city of low crime; no traffic; convenient parking; and no stress! We planned on visiting some great spots from the past: The Chicago Art Institute; Lutz’s Pastry (Montrose near Western Ave.); Gene’s Sausage (formerly known as “Meyer Delicatessen”) in Lincoln Square; and take in a boat tour on Lake Michigan of the Chicago skyline (the most beautiful skyline in the world)! But first, we needed breakfast! After rising late, what better place to have a true Chicago breakfast than SUPERDAWG DRIVE-IN, at Noon! Superdawg was established in 1948 at the corner of Milwaukee and Devon, by a WW2 veteran. Audrey Hepburn would have probably become more famous starring in “Breakfast at Superdawg” than a 1961 movie called “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. Their hot dogs and fries are a perfect Chicago style breakfast. Sixty-four years ago (yes, 64 years ago) my older brothers first took me there when I was four years old. It is a classic Chicago hot dog drive-in. If you have never been there, it is well worth the drive (with minimal traffic) and be sure to pick up a Superdawg T-shirt and/or cap to show off to your friends! Superdawg Drive-In in Chicago is a “Bucket List Must” my friends!

tipping

By Gilbert M |

Food was great . I didn’t agree with when using a card the lady who brought my food not letting me press the other option. pretty much forced me to tip 20 % for her just bringing me food and give me attitude .

One of the best in town for sure. You should try...building is adorable with sausages couple...

By Vanessa Carolin... H |

A good place to try Chicago-style hot-dogs. I've been here for dinner and I had a great experience I am not a person into hot-dogs but I liked this one.

Good fries small portion

By 56003Richard |

Hot dog is ok. Not something that is the best I’ve ever had. Bun was good and toppings were tasty. Wiener was decent. Hate to do this but the hot dog that I measure all hot dogs against is the Costco hot dog and this one falls short. The bun is sweet and soft. Fries are nice and crunchy. Still I can’t get over the price difference of $5 compared to Costco. I went just because this place is Chicago. But you won’t miss anything if you skip it.

Still fun

By Livewire2014 |

Went there to use a Groupon and to see Holiday light in Sauganash. Was very crowded but we were waited on right away and the waitress was very nice. Food arrived in a timely manner. Had the grilled cheese, hot dog and chicken sandwich. All were very good and always love the fries. It is a unique place to eat with the drive up service. If you pay a little more it is worth it.

Not what it used to be

By chris21Illinois |

I grew up going to Superdawg, so I've been going there for many years. Unfortunately, since the owner died, it is not what it used to be. This last time that I went, I ordered the super chickenmidgees, and they were just terrible. Totally dried out and flavorless. This happened to me once before, but I thought that it was just a bad night. The waitress did confirm that the recipe had changed. I was so nauseous that I could only eat a couple of pieces and had to throw the rest away. These things cost over $6 for about 3 pieces! Someone also made a mistake on our order, so it took over 30 mins. to get all of our food. The fries have changed as well, and they were also flavorless. I decided to try the hotdog of a family member. I had 2 bites and felt little hard pieces of something. The food I remember from 30 + yrs. ago is no longer the same. I'm not sure what is going on, but I most likely won't be going back.

Remember drive-ins and car hops?

By Taylor B |

My wife and I are children of the 1950s, when drive-in restaurants were in style and pretty car hops took orders and delivered the food on a tray. Today, drive-ins are mostly gone, except in the case of Superdawg Drive-In at 6363 North Milwaukee Avenue, in Chicago's Norwood Park neighborhood, at the intersection of Milwaukee, Devon and Nagle. It remains one of the few original drive-in restaurants left in the United States. Maurie and Flaurie Berman opened Superdawg in 1948. Maurie designed an architecturally distinct and unique 20-foot by 12-foot building topped with two 12-foot-high hot dog icons to attract passsersby. Then the Bermans created a secret recipe to set themselves apart from other hot dog stands in the city. Finally, they named their signature product and restaurant Superdawg, not a wiener or frankfurter or red hot. Open from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, Superdawg's car hops deliver Chicago-style hot dogs. fries and milk shakes. Trust me, you can compare Superdawg's Chicago-style hot dog to any competitor, a pure beef hot dog (no pork, no veal, no cereal, no filler) on a steamed poppy seed bun dressed with all the trimmings -- golden mustard, tangy piccalilli, Kosher dill pickle, chopped Spanish onions and hot pepper. With an order of Superfries and a chocolate milk shake. Oh, the menu features other items such as all-beef chili, tamales and a host of sandwiches, including shrimp, boneless filet of cod, char-broiled breast of chicken, grilled cheese, cheeseburgers, hamburgers, chicken tenders and Polish sausage. But the main attraction is and always has been the Chicago-style hot dog. Delivered by a car hop. In 2009, another Superdawg location was opened at 333 South Milwaukee Avenue in Wheeling.

Just an ok hot dog.

By Scarlettdm |

Ordered the super dawg with everything, but no fries. Quite honestly, I don't know what all the hype is pertaining to this hot dog. It's really just "ok." The green tomato was also just ok. The neon green relish screams of artificial color additives. And the pineapple shake was definitely a disappointment. You could taste that the shake was made with old vanilla ice cream. Shakes aren't a big January treat, but use fresh ice cream when it is ordered. The only reason we visited this place, the original one, was because my husband bought a Groupon. We'll probably wait another five years before trying it again.

The trip is not worth it at all

By Catalina S |

This is the worst dog I’ve ever ate compared to the distance and the effort. The trip is not worth it at all.

A Yummy Tradition

By Lauri F |

Always a favorite when I come to town. Classic all beef Superdawg with Superfries no relish or peppers. Love it so much I even got the shirt!

Heard it was a top AMERICAN DRIVE -IN

By TexasDadWaco |

Well somewhere I saw this was a top drive in in america. Well OK it is unique and photo worthy. CHICAGO DAWG, I've had better but for ~ $5 I now have had one from SUPER DAWG! Drive out of the way, perhpas not. Going into town from O'hare worth the diversion. Been there - Done that!

Outstanding since 1948

By BO NH |

Since 1948 this place has been serving young and old. Burgers, dogs, shakes etc . It’s not the cheapest it’s not the best. But it certainly is worth the stop for the experience. They must be doing something right they have been here since 1948 when the owner returned home from WWII and started it all.

The best there is........

By Mags boy S |

The best there was, and the best there will be in the future. No sarcasm meant. Even though this is my fav, I’m not being biased. A must see if In the area. Highly recommend. Don’t believe the negative reviews if there is any.

Awesome

Food was really good. The employees were fun and I loved the light up hotdog figures on the roof. We liked it so much we got a t shirt!!!

Best dogs in the universe

By Krzys.Seweryn |

Fresh cut fries, soft bun, 100% beef dogs, very good service, great taste - if two hot dogs enthusiasts 8 year old and and 11 year old summarize that this was the BEST hot dog they ever eat - now that’s a statement 💪👌

Best Chicago Hot Dog Ever

By leightayl0r |

Have been eating Super Dawgs since the 1950s. Each dog comes Chicago style: steamed poppy seed bun, really nice dog with some crunch and flavor topped with mustard, onions, relish, kosher pickle, celery salt and sport peppers and pickled tomato. (never ketchup on a Chicago dog). The hot dog is nestled in a box of excellent French fries. They offer car hop service as well as ordering at a window. Really great to be back in Chicago for a few days and visit this wonderful place.

The simple life !

A cool brisk Friday night ordering food from your car with a blanket on your legs ! Relaxing way to eat dinner ! Good quality food can’t go wrong with a pure beef Superdawg!

Super

By s c |

I ate here because I was nearby and had heard how good the place was. It’s a very unique place in today’s world. You can order from your car and they will bring it to you. The parking lot is pretty small so it’s a tight fit. It’s also a busy place. The building is cool. Maurie and Flaurie are on the roof. The hot dog was hot and had all the fixings for a Chicago Style Hot Dog. The fries are homemade crinkle fries. They have other items on the menu such as burgers, sausage, chicken. I would eat here again just for the cool hot dog box.

More Fun at Night

We had fun and enjoyed our drive in food. We especially liked the atmosphere at night with everything lit up.

Chicago Tradition Hotdog Joint: A Must Experience for Visitors or At Least Once A Year

By HoosierJudy |

We drive here from Northwest Indiana to attend a long standing tradition New Year's Eve party in Skokie. On Christmas & New Year's Eve, GET THERE BEFORE 6 pm, since they close early on those holiday. Love the traditional car hop service. Sadly the owner passed this year. He worked in the kitchen like everyone else. If we do NOT see Superdawg on Travel Channel or Food Network Or PBS Hotdog Special, we do not consider it a legitimate Hotdog Special.

Worth a visit, for novelty factor alone!

By karakara1 |

We always like to visit unique, away-from-tourists places when we travel...so when I read in this month's People Magazine that Superdawg was THE place to eat in the entire state of Illinois, I knew we had to check it out! We got 2 Superdawgs, a cheeseburger, and the chicken tenders. If I came again, I would opt out of the fries and bring the price down a bit. They were OK, I just don't think I needed them. We also ordered a pineapple malt, and a chocolate shake. If I came again, I'd try the pineapple shake. I think the malt flavor overpowered the pineapple taste a bit. Overall, a very cute place...I love the history and longevity!!

Must do Chicago Icon

By sattelite10 |

My daughter took our family visiting from the U.K. with 4 kids here to experience a real Chicago hot dog experience . They love the historic dancing hot dogs on top of the building as much as the all beef hot dog with crispy fries. There are picnic tables so we sat outside and enjoyed free refills of drinks . The poppy seed rolls and big dill pickle added to our enjoyment.

Excellent!!

By Mags boy S |

Super dash never disappoints. Very consistent. The hot dog and fries never disappoint. Burger was smaller than usual and tasted different. Come here every time we visit.

Late night joy

By pablonarthex |

I have been a long time fan of this drive-in. The people are great and the food is fantastic. I became enthralled with Superdawg after seeing them featured on numerous Food Network shows. Last night after a concert downtown we saw that they were open until 1am! On a Monday! I had a Superdawg and it was so good. The beef hotdog tasted amazing on a poppyseed bun with true Chicago relish, mustard, and a pickle. I introduced two friends to it and they both agreed it was a top notch choice

Superdawg

By nana5815 |

Possibly the best dawg I have ever eaten can't wait for another one. I think it's a must try when you come to Chicago

DANCE UNDER THE DOGS

By LOUIS C |

Have eaten in this place over the years, DOGS are good for fast food, but over the years it has lost something . Have found other DOG stands that are as good or better and at half the price. Also the wait staff should be more aware that we pay for the food and service. Kind of crossed it off the list for food, but the grandkids like seeing the DOGS on the roof.

Great trip down "memory lane"

By Bruno |

Food was average, fries could be improved and being packed in a box made it look mushy. Better dogs could be found in Chicago. However great decor!

Fun Spot

By SnappleSpice |

This was fun for my wife and I to grab a quick bite to eat before returning our rental car. It’s a bit out of the way of the popular Chicago tourist spots, but I’m glad we got to experience it. The building design and setup give a real old school feel, and I loved the packaging. The food was good but nothing too special. The menus were too hard for us to read, so we had to pull them up online before ordering.

Getting old and pricey

By Chicagonative_7 |

If you want an old school experience and a very good dog on a soggy bun covered in overcooked crinkle cut fries, then this is your place! But at over 6 bucks per doghouse deserve better..... My wife wished the dog was separate from the fries and that the bun wasn’t soggy but I reminded her they have been here forever and will not change..... even if they should! The four stars came from the quality of the dog....all beef and very very tasty. Only for special occasions, and it was twenty years since we last visited..... better in warm weather for so many reasons!

Doggone good service

By PrOInfo |

We visited the quaint good old style drive in known as Superdawg on a hot lazy summer day. The service is good. We ordered our meal on an old styled speaker, which was provided for each car, kinda like the ones in the 60s! The servers told us to attach our tray to the window. Our order was presented in the Superdawg box with pickle and a section of green tomatoes! We ordered the Supershrimp (breaded ,fried)and the Superfish. It was okay, but the hot dogs (which we have ordered ,earlier) are better! If you want nostalgia and friendly service with good American hot dogs, this is the place!

Hot Dawg! A drive-in!

By Jenny G |

Iconic 50s ish Drive-in with giant hot dog mascots Maurie and Flaurie overlooking the presentation of the most awesome Chicago Dog and fries crammed into an efficient box bursting with flavor all for $5.49!!! No better than this. Add a coke or malt to complete the perfection.

Try it Once

By Hans |

The hot dogs are just OK. I prefer Portillos to be honest. I recommend coming here (Chicago location) to say you did it. The place is historic for sure and the carhop experience is unique.

Delectable slice of Americana

By ElAzul |

My adventure loving son in law drove us about 12 miles from our downtown Chicago hotel for this Zagat-approved casual eatery. It was well worth the drive (since he drove!) and I must say the superdawg hot dog was very good, with all manner of onions and other fixings on it. the fries were just average. We sat in the small dining room area but if you want to re-live your teenage years (boomers!) this is the place for you since Car hops bring your food out etc. This place has been open since 1948 and is worth the drive !

Delicious Fast Food

By Phyllis P |

While the Wheeling location was opened in 2010, the original Superdawg was opened in 1948 in Chicago. They have their own special recipe dawgs produced just for them. Nothing else tastes like a Superdawg! The sides served with the dawgs are just as special! Nothing tastes as good as their pickled green tomatoes! Everything is delicious!! They also have other things on the menu, but, the Superdawg is the reason we go there and that's the only thing I've eaten there! The chocolate shakes are also a treat!!

A Chicago institution!

By E R |

This place has been here forever! Great jumbo hotdogs with all the trimmings -- including pickled tomotoes! But no catsup on the dogs (only provided separately for the fries. For those who want that taste of the 50's, this drive-in has it all -- including the electronic boxes to place your order and car hops to bring your order to the car. Hotdogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and great milkshakes that are so thick you have to melt them down a little by holding them so you can get them through the straw -- including strawberry with chunks of frozen fruit in it, AND pineapple! If you're still hungry they also have sundaes for dessert.

Great Food

By babylove2785 |

My husband and I go here whenever we can. We live on the south side of Chicago and Superdawg is far north; this is a long drive for a hotdog, but it is worth the drive. We enjoy the food in the car or on one of the tables outside. The pickled green tomatoes are our favorite. The food is delicious and I recommend everyone to visit.

Still great

By Chuck B |

Food has been consistently good for years - and consistent quality/taste. Just introduced my kids to it tonight and they loved it.

A little overrated for my taste

By MrWarrenM |

Finally got to try infamous Superdawg. Very good with some interesting quirks (neon green relish, pickled tomatoes). And of course the place is historic with a fantastic exterior, can't say much for the walk up window but the abundance of drive in stations is quite cool and unique. I consider Superdawg just a little overrated from a cost to quality perspective, $6.00. It is served in a box, packed with fries. Fries that are brown (not golden yellow), because they have been burnt too long probably in old oil. But it's still edible with ketchup since it kills that taste away. The outside has that old school drive in feel that brings you back in time. But it's smaller than you would think. The goofy rooftop hot dogs are pic-worthy.

Great Take Out

By Mags boy S |

Got the regular Superdawg which comes with everything on it as well as fries. Been going here for years would highly recommend and return. God bless this location.

a delight

By VacaBird |

Our favorite hotdog in Chicago area. Loved the old-fashioned design on the hotdog boxes, and how the fried were crammed in there all around. Good service to your car.

A taste for hot dogs and we ended up at Superdawg

By Allen21096 |

We opted for Superdawg for dinner on an April night when it was starting to snow. There are plenty of places to park under the canopy and we happened to get there just as the amount of cars seemed to pick up. We ordered a Superdawg with no French fries, as well as a Supercheesie with no French fries, though we did get an order of Superonionchips. I didn't know but if you don't want French fries, though you can't substitute the onion chips, they do take something off of the hot dog for not ordering French fries. A nice gesture. The price was more than reasonable for everything. Our server, car hop #5, was very good and we felt a bit sorry for her having to be out in such cruddy weather. She was personable and efficient.

Awesome Hot Dogs

By palmjumper |

This was my first experience with a Chicago Superdawg and it did not disappoint. The meat in the hot dog is simply scrumptious. All of the other stuff on them is fantastic. They are served in an oblong box amply stuffed with crispy French fries. i learned that ketchup is a "no no" on any hot dog served in Chicago, so don't ask for Ketchup. .

Historic Hot Dogs!

By Mike S |

What a trip! Car hops, sliding aluminum windows, the real deal from the 50's--- actually 1948. Superdawg hot dogs is a must --- order the full set of condiments or exclude whatever you wish. Fries can be dicey --- overcooked and hard, or 'right on'.

Good chicago dog

By Brandon B |

I felt it was an average chicago dog. Something I could easily make at home. The hot dog itself was very good as it is all beef. They got our order wrong so had to order twice. I wouldn't go out of my way (again) to eat here, but it was good for a quick lunch. More nostalgic than anything.

DELICIOUS DOGS!

By alexchicago1 |

My boyfriend loses his MIND when I bring home SuperDawg. The weiners come with a quarter pickle and stuffed to the max with all the tasty toppings in a fresh poppyseed bun with crinkle cut fries. SO GOOD. One of the best in Chicago!! Chicken tenders are pretty fantastic too!

Iconic Drive Thru and Legendary Chicago Dawgs!!!

Cutting Back??????

By drw2112 |

After coming here for over 30 yrs now, you kinda know what to expect and change is not always a good thing. The food is always top notch and does not disappoint, however after coming here so many times you know the portion size you get. They seem like they are cutting back on the amount of fries they put in your box with the superdawg as well as the whoopercheesie. They definitely used to load the fries in, but now it is an obvious smaller portion. Superdawg is not cheap for what it is, PLEASE do not cut back in order to save a few bucks or else you might lose customers who are loyal to your overpriced hot dogs and fries!!!!

Great drive in

By SANDRA S |

I go there once a month or so over the past few years. Always pleasant service good drive-in food. Open really late at night for the munchies.

Best hot dogs on the planet!!!

By Tinythefrog |

Every time I'm in the area I have to get a Superdawg hot dog with fries and a Super Shake. It is more than an institution. This food is life's blood.

Evil Hotdog Eyes.

By Brian L |

I've been here a dozen or so times, who's counting, but I am really into this place. There's a lot to be said about the retro, kitschy feel of pulling up to a speakerbox and placing your order and having it brought out to you on a tray that fits into your window. Let's be honest, car eating isn't the most comfortable. I personally don't like it much and wish I had a table, but here i's just a little bit fun. There are plenty of spaces to park, just roll down your window and push the button to place an order! If you're not a native Chicagoan, then you should probably go with the Superdawg. The only thing is, it's not *exactly* a "Chicago style hotdog" but it is very close. Their burgers are really really good, in my opinion. I think I had a vanilla shake once and boy does it pack a punch. One little gripe I have is the way the superdawg and fries are boxed. I know, I know, it's part of the shtick, but it is a challenge to take your hotdog and bun out of the box without making an onion/relish or french fry mess everywhere. It's a neat little package, but impractical for neat eating. Still, a very worthy journey if you are anywhere nearby. I've been several times and plan to come many more.

Good hot dog, rude staff

By Kevin A |

The overall ambiance of this place was fantastic - drive-in/diner style. We had to go in to order, and unfortunately the experience with the staff was not pleasant. For example, there was a line of about 4 or 5 people formed in one direction, and a regular came in and "cut the line" because we were lined up wrong, not that there was any signage to tell anybody where to wait or queue up. Once we finally got the counter, there was no friendliness in the entire interaction - it seemed to be all business. Overall, I would say that the hot dog was good, but it didn't blow me away. Maybe I'm just not a hot dog person.

Can't go wrong

By Mags boy S |

Been going to this place for years and finally decided to write a review on it when I visit chi town. My title says it all. My favorite is the regular Superdawg. Fried and onion petals are a great add on. The gifts they have for sale are also desirable if u like menorabilia. Will go back for sure when in town.

One of the most iconic joints in America

By Amy D |

Superdawg is a place that has changed little in 60 years. It's one of the best hot dogs you will have as they are made specially for them. Even the shrimp is good. Stop by for a Superdawg, Whoopskidawg or a shake.

Meh

By brs59 |

This was my first visit. The ordering/serving process could be improved. If there are 4 or more customers waiting, it seems a bit chaotic inside...seems the same in the kitchen as you can watch them prep the orders. We tried several items. The hot dog was good, double cheeseburger was good, but the fries were barely warm so thumbs down there. The fish sandwich was a huge disappointment, and onion chips were crunchy onion "petals"...like a bloomin' onion taken apart. Lesson learned...If we ever go again, stick with the hot dogs and burgers and save yourself $2.50 per sandwich by skipping the fries....but if you must have them...ask for fresh ones so they are hot.

MY family has been raving about ths place for 0ver 50 years

By Patrick J |

It is a place with Superdawgs and Whooper cheeseys. When my distsn relatives come to town they want to go there at least once. I like their Chicago dowgs that are not as common anymore.

Rated Best Chicago style Hot Dog

By sarah l |

In a city known and revered for the infamous Chicag-style hot dog, this place is #1. Just the right bite to the skin, poppy seed rolls warm and perfectly steamed. The servers don't insult you, but neither will they give anyone over 12 ketchup on the dog. The meal comes served in a perfectly sized box with the most delicious pickled tomato. If you want a real milkshake or fried curds, here's your place. If you are headed out on the bike trail, you can sit outside under a canopy. Winter indulgence finds you sitting in your car ordering and receiving your meal.

Decent dog, not "super" dog.

By Peter Y |

No doubt, this is a place of nostalgia, but the hot dog was ordinary, not super. We came here right from the airport, hoping to experience hot dog paradise. What we got was a long wait, 15+ minutes, for a hot dog (okay) and a sausage (pretty good). We also got a chili which was good and an order of onion chips (good). Superdawg is a landmark restaurant in the Chicago area. So, I get the nostalgia part, but we are more into quality of the food and tastes. So, if you are looking for a 50's style drive-in where in can dine in your car, this is the place for you. If you are looking for "super" tasting hot dog, then I can give this place a pass.

Superdawg Lunch.

By SMLeek69 |

I enjoyed my lunchtime visit to this old style drive-in. The neon lighting & car hops add to the atmosphere. My Superdawg with everything & fries was good, but nothing special; $5.90. We dined inside seated at a raised window seat overlooking the parking area. Around the walls at ceiling level are the many reviews from local & national media. The drive-in is clean & well maintained. A nice place for a quick hotdog lunch.

Delicious Chicago Style Hot Dogs

By Christine K |

We haven't been to Superdawg for quite a while. My daughter had a couple of hot dogs and fries and I had a burger and fries. They were all tasty. A little pricey but GOOD. My daughter had a Groupon coupon which helped. My daughter said the hot dog was tasty. It's hard to find a good hot dog stand so this is a good place to remember.Glad they're still around.

Great dog, okay fries 🍟

By Dave Petersen |

I had to stop and get one! I decided to go inside and not do the car hop thing. I hate eating in a car. The dog was great but the fries were just okay!

Fun once-in-awhile experience

By 11kiki11 |

Took the family here after a baseball tournament at Heritage Park. The experience was fun with the waitress coming to our car. I don't really eat hot dogs but went with the full Chicago-style dog. Yummy. Fries are a bit soggy. My kids liked the chocolate shakes. Worth the visit. Just wouldn't plan on returning too often.

Great Dawg!

By garnmar |

The wife is from Chicago and we recently visited there to catch up with some of her old friends. While out driving the city we decided to try Superdawg Drive-in based on TA reviews. We were not disappointed. The dawg was excellent. It could have been a little bigger but it was very tasty. They pop in a few little hot peppers on the side. If you like really hot peppers then go for it but be advised, they're really hot. The fries were just average but I'm reviewing the dawg so I gave it a 5.

Legend, Icon, One of a Kind, One and Only

By Taylor B |

Eating at Superdawg Drive-In is an experience not to be duplicated, an experience unlike any other, a dining experience that is Chicago only. Located at 6363 North Milwaukee Avenue, at the corner of Milwaukee, Devon and Nagle, Superdawg opened in 1948 by the late husband and wife team of Maurice and Flaurie Berman with its signature Chicago-style hot dogs, fries and shakes delivered to your car by car-hops. The Superdawg is an original. It isn't a wiener or frankfurter or red hot. On a poppy seed bun is juicy pure beef that is bigger than any other hot dog. There is no pork or veal or cereal or filler. And you get the Superdawg with all the trimmings--mustard, piccadilly, Kosher dill pickle, chopped Spanish onions and hot pepper. No ketchup, of course. Placed in a box with a handful of freshly cut Super Fries and you're ready to celebrate Christmas. Look for the trademark figures on the roof and you know you're there. For suburbanites, Superdawg opened a location on Milwaukee Avenue in Wheeling in 2009. Drive-Ins were the thing in the 1950s. Now they are a thing of the past. Except at Superdawg.

1st timer

By mstravelrx |

Visiting the city from Texas, so we had to visit! Love the drive-thru concept, although they could use a little technology upgrade. However, the food was awesome! The dawg is definitely real meat, no fillers and very tasty! I can eat a good pickle with anything! My brother had a burger and devoured it so I couldn’t get a picture. He said it was the best “real meat” burger he’s had from a fast food joint. That says a lot coming from a Texan...I had a pineapple shake which was good. Bother was a little disappointed in the brownie a la mode, literally a brownie chunk with a block of ice cream underneath. Again we’re from Texas so a brownie a la mode here is a warm brownie, topped with ice cream and all the fixings, like a brownie sundae. Any how the main thing was the burgers and dawgs and they did not disappoint.

Best Hot Dog in Chicago

By Diana W |

As a Chicago native I have been going to Superdawg for at least 20 years. It's the best place to go in Chicago. The hot dogs are huge and delicious. It comes in a box nestled with their awesome crinkle cut fries. It's on all the food shows as the place to go when you're here. Don't listen when they say Chicagoans don't put ketchup on their hot dogs, totally not true. Don't know where that came from? It's also a drive in and you can order from your car. We prefer to walk in and if weather permits we'll eat outside or take it home. Love this place!

Uncommonly Great Shakes, Malts, and Floats amidst an Old-School Atmosphere

By Elliott P |

Superdawg is a Chicago classic that truly never goes out of style. The excitement is palpable whenever a car full of fortunate patrons pulls into the lot, genuine smiles spreading across their faces the likes of which have been inspired by the legendary hot dogs here over umpteen generations. I enjoyed the Superdawg, a dish which does our city proud as a local delicacy which is widely imitated but never matched in juicy, mouthwatering quality. The fries are to die for, and the fried veggies are most definitely worth ordering. I must say, though, nothing tops the frozen "diced cream" creations Superdawg serves up in the form of malts, shakes, sundaes, and "Supersodas". I got the pineapple Supersoda, and it was divine. (It is both a drink and a float, which comes with a side-car of pineapple syrup to pour on top of decadent vanilla ice cream). My sister described her vanilla malt as "delicious. Super rich and creamy--just what I wanted". Prices are reasonable for this kind of food, though not necessarily cheap. If you're ever driving by, be sure to pull into the lot to enjoy some classic American nostalgia for dinner. You won't even have to leave your car.

Worth going out of your way!!!

Go go go

By jackwidely |

Lots of hot dogs in chicago but only one great drive-in with food in boxes served the Chicago way. Everything is good. Even grilled cheese on dark bread! Onion slices. Pickles. Impress visitors with this classic spot.

Great dog

By dicksayad |

This long time established drive in has a menu that just does not quit. If you can find something to eat here, you're not hungry. The hotdog is one of the best in Chicago if not the best in Chicago, french fries are perfect. I had their hamburger which was perfectly cooked with all the garnishes is it's a party in your mouth. So get in your car and get over to Milwaukee Avenue and Devon and try this place you'll make it a regular stop, enjoy.

Great lunch stop

By Allen21096 |

We had just left Sunday Mass and thought that on the way home, we'd stop for a hot dog, as we were driving past Superdawg. We wanted something light, as we were planning on making sloppy Joes when we were watching the later afternoon Bears game (they lost). The hot dogs were delicious. We get them without the French fries. We also ordered a root beer float with cubed ice cream. Everything was tasty, the pickle spear, the green tomato, the sport peppers and the bright green relish. Oh, and on mine - I added catsup. The price was reasonable, especially if you don't order the French fries. It was a nice day to go to a car hop drive-in.

Still the best dog in Chicago!

By Bill F |

Best hot dog in the city, hands down, have it your way, the all beef hotdog in a box smothered with great fries never disappoints. Also chicken strips, hamburgers and shakes. For that 50’s experience, stay in your car and have the car hop bring you your order.

Always a Good Meal

By Tom L |

Granted I love their hot dogs, but every time I go there, the place is busy YET the employees are friendly and the service is fast. This place is really good for a true Chicago style hot dog!

Chicago Dog

By Jeff J |

An old fashion fast food joint, you can drive up and park, and a car hop will bring your food. You can also drive through, or you can go inside and eat. We had Superdawgs - traditional Chicago Dogs. Don't order a hot dog, though, you must order a Superdawg. And they do have ketchup if you want, but they will not put it on a Superdawg themselves. They were delicious. Root beer floats were also delicious. They French fries were very average. A fun place to eat.

WE CAME FOR THE DAWG

By SoCalOregonian |

We were out driving about and were told about this restaurant. So we drove out here and tried a SUPERDAWG. You have the choice to eat in your car, outside, or in the indoor seating area. As popular as this store is there are plenty of places to park if you want the “carhop” experience and there is plenty of seating inside if you want to eat there. They offer a variety of drive in style food. The dawg was very good. Larger than a normal run of the mill dog. Fries were a little soggy though. Located about 30 miles from downtown

Great food especially the hotdog and the cheeseburger.

By JEFSUSHAY |

Stop and got a super dog combo and the god was awesome best ever. My son got a cheeseburger combo and was also very impressed. Can’t wait to go back 👍

Superdawgs

By John S |

Tuesday I got in to ORD late, due to weather, and hadn't eaten all day. Superdawgs is on the way to my brother's house so we stopped for a late "dinner". I had the Polish sausage, fries, and chocolate shake and it was all excellent - I hate to admit it but the dill pickle was better than my home made. I hope to go back for a regular hot dog before I head home. It's hard to find a good hot dog in the Seattle area.

Normal Visit On Trip

Same story for years here. Real food. Great taste. Great service. Will be back many years to come and would highly recommend. God bless this location.

Forget the dog...get the grilled cheese!!!

By Jana B |

My oh My! Service was excellent - did the car hop deal. Prompt and pleasant. 3 of the 4 of us ordered grilled cheese, last person went for the dawg - well...she loved it and loved the hot dog characters more! Lol! Our grilled cheese was a blend of melted goodness that felt like a warm blanket! Sounds cheesy - pun intended - but Lord, it was perfect! Served on a round sesame seed bun! Did you ever?!?! Great place glad we got to visit while in town!

Great food awful service.

I called in my order at 6:17 P.M. on 7/16/19. I was asked when I would be there. I said in ten minutes. They said " I put it on the grill right now? I got there in about 10 minutes. They said we've got your order working. As time passed 3 people who ordered after me received there food. Two of them had burgers (takes longer) as I did. When I asked what was up? an employee said " I took your order - it's coming right up" No explaining the reason it took 31 minutes .He then gave two more people who came after me, their orders. I paid and noted the time on the receipt was 18:48. 31 minutes Not fast food! Not quick food ! Just good food and awful slow service.

HOT DAWG!!

My family of 10 came here after seeing it on the food network. My daughter is pregnant and craving Chicago dogs, so this was a must stop on our vacation. It was about 15 minutes north of the city downtown. Not bad. It's set in a drive- in setting, but you can also order at a counter and they have a small area to eat inside. We ate in our cars. It is in a nice area and easy to get to. Pros: The food was amazing! Half of us ate Chicago dawgs and the other half had their sausage, grilled cheese, and burger. They had crinkle fries that were done to perfection. The prices were reasonable (under $10 for a complete meal). My sons and husband absolutely LOVED the whoopsiedawg! I tried it and ended up eating half of my husband's. Teeheehee. The service was timely and pleasant (which can be hard to find in Chicago). Cons: ummmmm, yeah, there weren't any. I am serious about that. It was perfection! We will visit again when we are in town. Yum!

Pretty near the best version of Chicago hot dogs around

We stopped for lunch at Superdawg Drive-In and though there is a small area to eat inside, plus an outside patio with shaded tables, we decided to eat in the car. We ordered two Superdawgs, one with their crinkled French fries and an order of superonionchips. We also ordered a black cow which comes with extra root beer. Everything was delicious. Our server was friendly and efficient. The prices are reasonable. A throwback to the ol' car hop days, Superdawg Drive-In is a must try, if you are in Chicago and craving a Chicago-style hot dog.

Best Dogs in Chicago!

Loved the food and service! Cute story behind the restaurant which you can read while you wait. Didn't wait long to be served. Portions were pretty good sized. Parking and location is great. Definitely recommend for a reasonably priced taste of Chicago.

Never pass up this hotdog

For fifty years plus the first place I go when I get to Chicago is to Superdawg. Classic kosher dog with stinky onions, green Chicago relish, pickled tomatoes, yellow mustard, packed in a box with crinkled fat fries. You can hold on the condiments if you are wimpy or order like all of us: "Superdawg including hot peppers". Caution your car will smell like onions for a few days...

Original SuperDawg is the best

Been going here since I was little. The place has not changed and the food is still awesome. You can either order from the carhop or go inside. It's a bit pricey but definitely worth every penny. I love the hot dogs. I have never had anything else but a hot dog. My Mom loves the cheeseburgers.

Excellent choice for hot dogs and more

We decided on Superdawg Drive-in because it was late in the evening and we were looking for something light. We chose a hot dog with everything, including sport peppers, but without the French fries. We opted for the onion chips instead. This is an old-school drive-in with carhops. The food was hot and tasty. The prices are reasonable. Our carhop was friendly and personable. We even asked her where the hot dogs are from, since they aren't Vienna hot dogs. She replied that it is a secret proprietary blend that is made just for both of the Superdawg Drive-Ins.

Great hot dog joint

Good hotdogs and burgers with really good fries. They actually have carhops who are very pleasant. Have very late hours also.

I love their burgers

We stopped at Superdawg Drive-in, as we were looking for a quick dinner, as we were on our way home. We ordered a Superdawg and a Supercheesie cheeseburger on their black bread. The burger had everything, including peppers and grilled onions. I loved the bread. The Superdawg was good, as were the onion chips. Our server was efficient and friendly.

Great stop!

Delicious dogs and fries - and a fun atmosphere! Lots of friendly people too! Everyone was happy to be there! Love the retro look and feel! Highly recommend for couples and families!

Not as Super as Expected

I wanted to stop here, due to seeing it numerous times on tv. I was somewhat disappointed. The Superdawg was just ok. Nothing special. I actually enjoyed the fries more than the hotdog. They offer other food items, but I wanted to try the dawg everyone raved about on tv. It is a neat place to see, and I'm sure if you're from Chicago, this is the place you grew up going to as a kid. Glad we stopped, if nothing else than to see the Superdawgs on top of the building, but I've had better hotdogs.

Hot Dog Heaven

By far the best Hot Dog you can ever eat. I know they have it made just for them and it is wonderful. The fries and shakes are great as well. My wife loved the Super Cheesie Hamburger as well and her malt. I came back a 2nd time it was so good.

Superdawg

My favorite Hot Dot destination in the Chicagoland area. Consistently great hot dogs. Never had a problem there.

Super Dawg has Super Dogs

I love Chicago Dogs. There isn’t a better way to eat a hot dawg. super Dawg served a great Chicago Dog and fabulous fries. We love the place.

What's so special??

By Redshirts889 |

Love the look of the place and waitresses deliver your food to your car like the old day... But that's about it, the hot dog and cheeseburger was average, nothing special, maybe because I didn't grow up eating the stuff? Like some people have say their food was a little expensive. For much better hot dogs and burgers I rather go to Portillo and saved a few bucks too. Oh, this place is far from other Chicago attractions, see if you think this is worth the drive.

Was awesome

We found this place and thought we would check it out and wow I’m so happy we did! I would recommend anyone drive out of your way to go here. It’s small inside of you decide to eat inside but you can also eat outside in your car as a car hop will bring your food to you! Cutest drive in ever !!!

An authentic drive up hot dog joint

By WorldTravelers34 |

My wife and I stopped here for dinner. We both had their Superdawg “box “and a chocolate malt. The hotdog (Superdawg) is thicker and different than a Vienna. It comes packaged in a box with fries. Super great hot dog. Ingredients were spot-on for a Chicago dog. The chocolate malt was also very good. Superdawg Drive-In is a classic hot dog joint that features the Chicago Dog. Superdawg has its place among top 10 Chicago hotdog fast food places. It has two locations with decades of history. The service and operations is efficient and the inside dining is clean. While you're waiting in line there is plenty of wall material to read. Quite interesting.

This place is great!!!

I'm 60 years old and have eaten in alot of drive-ins in my life and I'm telling you that this place is special! The hot dogs were wonderful, some of the best that I've ever eaten. The french fries were of the frozen variety but fried to where they were crispy. The milk shake, however, was the star of the show for me. It was simply the BEST that I have ever had. Thick, chocolaty, and wonderfully gritty. If you haven't eaten here, put this place on your list!!

Fun experience for old and young alike!

By blairinthecity |

We took our 5 year old here while visiting Chicago and he loved the fact that the tray hooked onto the side of the car out of the window. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love it too! Very neat, felt like we went back in time while eating our superdawg and supercheesie burgers. The strawberry shake was to die for!!! And the chocolate was amazing too - super thick and very rich! Friendly service, somewhat of a wait to get your food but you’re in the comfort of your car so we weren’t bothered. It was busy on a Thursday night. The person who took our order wasn’t great, and we had to repeat and verify our order multiple times, but the food and experience made up for this. Five stars! We will return next time we are in the Chicago area.
