Delicious south indian food, service with a smile

By OneFattyFoody |

Fantastic place to go to when you are out of town and craving some good south indian vegetarian food. We tried some chaats, uttappam, idli, vada, dosa, yogurt rice. South Indian items were outstanding. Service was excellent too, with wait staff well tuned into our needs. Thanks for a great experience, folks!

A wonderful experience

The restaurant has a wonderful ambience and a decent service. The chef is very friendly and accommodating.

Just fine.

The food was fine. We had ordered a kids dosa, an onion rava masala dosa, an idli rasam and vada sambhar. I found the sambhar very under seasoned. But the rest tasted fine. The staff was trying their best to be attentive, even asking us if the music volume was ok. That's a first! We did have to remind them about our coffee a couple times though!

Great vegetarian food

Ordered Mysore Masala Dosa and Chana Batura. Both were excellent. Service is slow but the food makes up for it. Would certainly recommend and visit again.

Best place in Austin for South Indian Food and Group gathering

By Manisha_Kalia |

This is a good place for ordering South Indian food . Good thali platters and dosas. This place would get a 5 star rating from me , but I reduced one since the place is always crowded . You cannot get a table without an advanced reservation . So the tip is to make sure you have made a booking well in advance or you will be waiting for 1 hour min .

Good ambience with average food

By Sonal G |

Look and feel of restaurant is nice. Staff is super sweet. Food is average. I ordered idli - it was half cooked and very hard. I told waiter and he was ready to get me something else. Then i odered their 70mm dosa.. That looked very lovely and too big. But it was brunt from sides. Any how I ate bit... Dosa was too big. You can't even eat half of it. My husband ordered masala dosa that was very tasty. I think we will go atleast one more time to try some of their veggie curries.

Average food

By Shanker B |

I tried their food through Grub Hub - The food was delivered about 30 minutes late due to delays - which is understandable. I know my way around a good south indian meal. So i ordered idly, vada and dosa. They served it with sambhar and 2 kinds of chutney. The idly was bad - it seemed liked it wasnt steamed enough and the batter hadnt fermented enough - instead of being soft and fliuffy it was goey and squishy - also the vada looked/felt like it had been re-fried, The dosa was average but that could be because it sat for a while due to delivery. There must have been something with the chutneys / sambhar - because I was sick the night i had dinner there, I threw up to get my system to clear up. I wouldnt order food from here again due to my personal bad experiences.

South Indian cuisine at its best!

By moksha51 |

We were there on a Thursday night. This place is not well known yet. But this is a gem. Decor is very interesting. Service is superb. Above all, the food preparation and taste is fantastic to say the least. Five of us ordered about 9 items and every one was excellent in taste and quality. Price is very reasonable. Overall, amongst the best Indian restaurants we have seen.

Poor food and service.

By Basudhara Sen |

After reading reviews we visited this place recently. The kids' masala dosa was too spicy even for an adult. I asked the server repeatedly not to put spices. The vegetarian curries were average. Finally, the utensils were old and not clean. The melamine plates looked so dirty. Service was not good either. Overall, I didn't have a good experience.

Nice Experience

By Sriram G |

Ambiance: Definitely India like. Service: We were waited by a good bunch. They took care of us real nice. The lady was quick in showing us the tables too, even though it was packed. Taste and Texture of food: Very good. Some of them need to be nice, but overall they are good. No doubt a refreshing experience. Types of food had: Supreme thali, if I remember correctly. I did not waste any food - such was the taste.

Great Food, Great Price

By Martina B |

The food was great and the servers were helpful. We had 10 people from multiple generations and ethnicities and everyone had a great time and left full. We Pakora and Dosa were hits with the whole family.

Suprabhat has lots of options.

By Virginia H |

I found the wait for the food longer than expected. I requested something milder and they told me they could make most foods hotter, but not much milder. The food was excellent initially. It seems to have gone down some over the past year.

Wonderful flavor

By NYCTexan |

This is southern Indian food. The flavors are great, and the service is very nice. We had such a great time, and were enjoying everything, they gave us some free dosa. They were very patient and explained every dish.

A family-friendly South Indian vegetarian place. Great ambiance, good friendly service. The Thali is sumptuous for a reasonably

Amazing South indian pure vegetarian place. The service was good. Good parking and spacious. Does it get crowded. So you may have to wait.

Unique setting, awesome food

By divya92 |

It has a cool "village" theme setting with trees and stuff inside. We were a large party looking and the restaurant was packed but we were seated pretty quickly. We ordered a lot of food (over 150 dollars worth) and everything was brought out pretty quickly. The food was also very good, especially for an indian restaurant, it was fresh and not greasy. A few people ordered the unlimited thali which was a really good deal

Food is good but service needs to get better.

This is a pure (=only) vegetarian restaurant featuring even Jain food (no onion, garlic or any other item grown below ground e.g. peanuts). This is a rare find within the Indian restaurants in the US! We went to Suprabhat for dinner early in the evening. There were only few other families besides us. We were seated promptly & our order was taken soon enough. However they took forever to get the food. Worse part? They got the kids order last. We would have preferred if they had prioritized the kids order over the adults. Since it took so long for the food to arrive, we didn't quite eat as a group but more like individuals. The good part, a person from the kitchen came to check if all the food we had ordered had indeed been delivered. The chaat had been left out & came last. The menu features excellent selection of Dosas (Indian crepes) - including varieties found only in India. The 'thali' (the complete Indian meal) comes in two varieties - Dakshin/South & Uttar/North. We ordered the Dakshin Thali, Paper Dosa, Onion Masala Dosa & Paneer Butter Malasa with Naan, Dahi Batata Puri (Chaat item) to get the overall feel of the food. I'm happy to report that though the food was late in arriving to the tables, the taste is spot on! All the dishes we sampled were really good. All the food seemed freshly made. Usually, if an Indian restaurant features South Indian dishes heavily, they miss the mark on North Indian dishes or Chaat items. Not so with Suprabhat - they nailed it in every dish! The naan was soft & expertly made. Every dosa perfectly crisped with 3 chutneys & sambhar. Chaat was good too - and I will be going back for the food. By the time we were done, the restaurant was packed with folks waiting outside. We had to ask for the check & the server never came back to pick up our bill/card. We had to go pay it ourselves at the counter. I do not know if that is how they operate - give us the check & pay the bill at the counter? So do go to Suprabhat for the food but be patient regarding the service. Good things come to those who wait!

Best Indian chaat on some items

By 83lovetotravel |

Best dahi batata puri, dabeli I have had. Dosa and paneer makhani with garlic bread is good as well. Would not recommend their pav bhaji. This place does get crowded on weekend as it’s very popular for chaat.

Best Indian food I have had in Austin

By Austex-D |

Our high school age son's friend took us to Suprabhat. She is Indian and told us her family eats here once a week. I can see why. It was excellent! The Paneer Butter Masala was fantastic, as well as the Kadao Bhindi. There were six of us and every dish ordered was great. Every dish can come mild, medium or hot. Medium was fine and I can eat relatvely spicy food. No one tried hot so can't give any guidance there. I knew we were in for a authentic Southern Indian treat when we every other table in the place was filled with Indian families out for dinner!

It is excellent restaurant. Particularly good for south Indian food. You can order North Indian food also.

Great Indian Vegetarian Food

By RobertWorldWanderer |

This is an amazing restaurant. I went in for a late lunch with a friend, and the food was prepared to perfection the level of spice can be moderated to the more timid western palate all the way to "burn baby burn" I usually prefer a moderate to mild level of heat. Vegans, fear not, there are numerous options which are also for vegans! They also have some items are not the standard for Indian restaurants. I only gave them 4 stars, because I've only eaten here once. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Good Vegetarian Food

By Salil G |

If you are in the mood for Indian-vegetarian food, Suprabhat is the place to go. this is one of the few Indian restaurants around to serve a vegetarian-only menu. The cuisine is from South India, and you can get Dosas, Uttapas, Wadas, and plenty of other South Indian fare. My favorite is the 'parottas and vegetable curry'.

Best Indian vegetarian ever !

By LimeCreekRider |

This place is amazing, I've been to many Indian restaurants all over the world and this place is incredible. Huge menu, and one of the few places in ATX you can get several selections of Thali. Their dosas, sambar, and rasam are all top notch too. My only issue is trying to decide what to get, it's all fantastic !!!

Decent food mediocre service

By CP M |

We visited Suprabhat on a Saturday evening and it was packed. It took more than 30 minutes to get seated. As other review mentioned, village theme looked nice. We ordered mostly south Indian dishes and everything was on our table quickly. Food was barely OK, not much to talk about. Service can use a lot of improvement. We had to ask for cutlery, no water refills and I decided to just go to counter and pay instead of waiting endlessly for the bill. It is good to have vegetarian restaurant in the vicinity and I am willing to attribute quality of service and food on it being crowded.

Some Mix-up

By Curiosity50321257912 |

The place was good, we (5) were allotted table quickly. The menu was what we were looking for. The service was a bit poor. First, there is confusion about table. They are not able to bring items to exact table, but wander around ! And theey forget items ordered though recorded on a device. Second, though food was tasty, some mix-up were seen. For example, in South Indian thali rice biryani is given while some other item like pongal would be the right choice in its place. In North Indian Thali, 'vetta kozhambu' (a tamarind based gravy /curry) is provided while it should be a tadka dal or some grain based dal. Third, we found salt lassi too salty and had to add water and water.. to be able to drink properly.

A spicy addition to the North Austin restaurant scene

By enur1979 |

Restaurant offers "inside" and "outside" seating, referring to a little hut built inside the room, allowing a more intimate dining experience, with nicely painted walls. Good was very good and was delivered incredibly fast. Staff is very helpful. We will return here again, for sure.

Ok for a couple of times.

By tarajog |

Good ambiance and good variety of food. Need to be improved on tastes as it is not having any Indian spicy tastes. Fast and courteous service.

Not as expected! but Okay!

By Nathan_Krish |

We went on a busy weekend for lunch and got the food. Food was good. Meals took time to come, the rice was really not good, seems cold and looked like prepared much earlier. Ordered two extra chapatti and it came after we almost finished eating. Kids enjoyed Paratha and Chole bhature. Doubt we will go back here again. Felt expensive.

Wonderful vegetarian Indian cuisine.

What a fantastic experience... We had lunch today in this wonderful restaurant. Service was fast and friendly. Food was super tasty and delicious 😋 I had a beautiful selection of dishes, each one of them was a true masterpiece of art playing of spices. The food was a true celebration of my pallet.

Best Indian place in North Austin

By enur1979 |

Always a pleasure to visit. Food has never been mediocre or poor. Service and prices Are great. Recommended for families with children.

Amazing food but slow service!

By Abhishek Subramany |

We tried the south indian and north indian thalis. Both were extremely tasty and quantity was really good. The only problem here is the speed of the service. They take a pretty long time to take your order and serve you.

Vegetarian heaven

By Shridhar V |

This is our go to place for Vegetarian comfort food. Great service and great selection. I'm rating one star less for their poor quality idlies and sambhar. They could definitely work on it!

Tasty South Indian fare in Round Rock

Went there for dinner. Place is very busy but you will get a table. Service can be a bit slow, but worth the wait

Authentic and delicious Indian in North Austin

By Frances F |

Surprisingly very good Indian food in North Austin. My family has been to this restaurant 3 times, and it has been consistently delicious. The service is good and the decor is fine (not white table cloth). Highly recommend.

Quality is poor

By Shruthi B |

We tried lunch and dinner options a few times at Suprabhat and the experience has been consistently bad. The interiors are dark and dull. Walls were plastered with rangoli designs and had a village based theme. It was not impressive at all. The interiors could have been brighter and lively! Customer service is average and rarely are the customers greeted with a smile. We have tried a variety of dishes like samosas, Thali, bisibelebath, idly wada, set dosa, pulav etc for lunch or dinner. Thali served during lunch is ordinary. There are other restaurants like Chennai cafe serve better thali food. Bisibelebath was particularly bad and it was stale. Dosas were soggy and not crispy. Idlis had a hard texture and lacked flavour. Samosas had refried taste in them. Not sure if they were freshly made. The Chutneys have strong ginger/mustard flavour and were not fresh. Portions size for the price is adequate. But the quality doesn't justify the pricing. We have avoided ordering food from Suprabhat altogether. I do not recommend this place!

Great indian vegetarian

By caminarTx |

For either lunch or diner this is a good place for delicious indian fare. In a nondescript strip off Parmer near 620 the place could be a little fancier but oh well the dishes are great and that's what matters. Great flavors, huge selection and very friendly wait staff.

Very Disappointing

By ZenHealer7 |

This genre of restaurants is among my favorite since I love South Indian cuisine which is now spreading all over the USA, slowly but gradually. I would love to give it a higher rating but unfortunately this genre is also characterized by some of the worst, indifferent and chaotic service level. It is genetic because this is the case all over the world, even in India. Here, it was particularly bad. On a busy Sat lunch time, there was a long line of people waiting for a table. There were ample tables lying empty but uncleared and no one in charge of organizing the line or clearing the tables. People started jumping the line and sitting themselves, armed with the menu. Some people were bringing their own utensils from the kitchen. There was anothe rlong line for making payments. All seemed chaotic and disorderly. I finally ordered the Thali which turned out to be disappointing. The ricee itself was basmati, which is a no no. There ws a paneer dish in the South Indian thali which is total sacrilege. What will they include next? Manchurian? The sambhar was watery. Perhaps the idly and dosa varieties may have been a better choice. No way to know because I will not be returning.

Good food

By Shruti S |

I have given it 3 out of 5 becUse of the food. The taste and quality is great. Removed 2 points becUse of the service. It was slow. They lack interest and enthusiasm while greeting a customer. If they can improve on that front they surely can get 5 star reviews

Great food

By Mandy R |

Just went with family the other day and I was more than impressed. LOVED the food but I accidently ordered the same thing we got as an app. I'm going to be childish here and say pictures would help some but whatever I literally just pointed at something on the menu and it happened to be the same thing as the app (my father in law ordered like 3 apps before we got there) Food was in great portions and staff was nice. Prices were decent for the amount of food you get. I thought I would be still hungry since it is a vegetarian place but I was so full when we left. I did get a lot of carbs so I will make sure I plan for that next time.

First time not so great

By rkgnn |

First time at the restaurant. Went with three other co-workers for lunch. We all ordered Masala Dosa. Meal was served in a nice tray with three different sauce trays and a small cup of soup. Ok, that looked all good. However, the Masala Dosa looked very thin. It is supposed to be thicker and filled with potatoes..etc. Since this was my first time here, wasn't sure if this was normal. So, I asked the rest of the group if it was supposed to be this way, and they all said that theirs was the same way and should be thicker. In addition, one of our co-workers, who is Indian and has been there several times also stated that it was not done correctly. (i think i counted only three dice-sized potatoes). We were almost done, so we asked the waiter if this is normal cooking for this dish, and he said he would go check. As we were paying our bill, we asked again why the dish was not cooked correctly, and we were told "it was an accident". huhhhhh??? Anyways, we didn't make a big deal of it and paid/left. Another item that I saw was a sheet of paper, partially blocked at the cashiers desk that has a warning about how they are not responsible if you get ill from allergic reaction from the food and that it is your responsibility to check good ingredients before you order. Well, that warning paper at the cashiers desk would be nice if it were at the tables instead of the cashiers desk. Also, waiter never came to our table to see how things were going. Overall, this seems like a decent and clean place with lots of potential. but for my first time being there, it was a bit disappointing. I hate giving it a rating of 2, but would be willing to give them a second try.
