I go there every week. Sometimes twice. Small, casual, intimate, reliable. GREAT sushi, the baked salmon roll is not to be resisted, the ultimate comfort food. But there's lots of competition, a full menu of items cooked and raw, bento boxes, full roster of intriguing sakis, warm friendly service, private areas or bar seating, take out if you cant eat in ... even entrees my grandchildren are willing to try. This place is a neighborhood jewel.

I wanted some good sushi. I did a seach oh Yelp and I found Sushi-Huku. We had a salad with a very good dressing on it. The soup was so good I wanted seconds. We had the Samon Sashimi, Soft Shell crab, Spicy Tuna rolls, and Beef Teriyaki. Everything was great. This has got to be some of the best sushi I have ever had. The service was great and the atmosphere was great!!! I highly recommend this place.

Ate dinner here with a friend. Asked for extra ginger, which I love, and we got a large serving. One plate of sushi was enough for my friend, but I needed just a little more to feel satisfied. Came early (they open at 5 pm) and we were the only ones in this free-standing building on the far end end of a parking lot in the Publix shopping center.

Delicious sushi and very fresh ! Service is excellent. We come here about once a month for a treat- Come early. . . it can get busy on a weekend.

The fried soft shell crab as an appetizer was really great. The wait staff was attentive and efficient. They only gave us chopsticks, so that is what we ate with. Added to the fun. The ginger salad dressing was good. Just a nice experience.

We did not have a reservation but the staff got us a table fast.We order Miso soup and it was great, all the sushi we ate were delicious. Prices are good.

Ate here with a group of 12. Was seated in the private room that required show removal. This is an off the radar type of room so I feel out of sight out of mind, and service to begin with was very slow. Once served however it was non stop. Prices are about average for the portions provided. The menu is decent and the taste of the food......excellent! We all left satisfied and full. The place stayed busy making me believe the fish was fresh. The atmosphere is quaint yet busy and welcoming. I have nothing bad to say about the place. I would return. No reservation was made, they accommodated us as walk in customers.

We visited Sushi Huku after a recommendation from friends. This is my impression after enjoying this restaurant. Sushi Huku is a very intimate place, it is perfect for couples or dates but may appeal for a large group that may be able to enjoy the traditional Japanese seating in some of their rooms. The food was outstanding. We all ordered different rolls as dinner and shared. The multiple appetizers, soups were all delicious with the exception of the gyoza that was a little greasy. The place is extremely busy, making a reservation may be a good idea. We visited just before peak dinner time and they were able to accommodate us. Within 40 minutes the place was packed, even at the bar. The service was great, the food was delicious and the environment was relaxed but classic. This is my kind of place. Highly recommended.

Ate dinner here and was very impressed by the quality of the food. Had miso soup, rolls and nigiri. Everything was very fresh and of high quality. Service was excellent. I sat at the bar and was impressed by the cleanliness habits of the sushi chefs. Definitely will stop in there again if in the area.

Great food with great service. The food is extremely fresh and the waiters will be glad to share their recommendations. The booths it makes you feel you are in Tokyo. Many japanese come here for sushi. Obviously, they know good quality when they see it. It is intimate and lovely.

We sat on the floor, traditional seating. It was very cool, the only thing room was very warm. But we told our server she brought in a fan. That was so sweet, the phone and sushi was great!

I had heard great things about this restaurant, so I tried it out. The sushi was average. Not a bad experience, but not the best.

Went there for dinner tonight with my boss. We’re not sushi experts so we just asked them to bring us a good mixed platter of different sushi dishes. That’s exactly what they did and it was superb. $80 for two with beer makes it absolutely excellent value too. What was most amazing was that we asked for a taxi and as it is raining nobody was answering so Jane took us (two British chaps) in her car back to our hotel. I am so touched by that gesture. Thank you. I hope they do really well and I thoroughly recommend it.

A group of us found this place for sushi on Yelp. They carry all the standard sushi offerings (eg, uni, rainbow rolls), plus a variety of creative and original dishes and rolls. I also noticed they have hot items, though we mostly ordered sushi and beer. The service was great, a good value and a great time in this land-locked Atlanta area where you'd assume they fly the fish in frozen. Still, I know places that do this in SF, CA, and Sushi Huku didn't disappoint!

We eat here regularly and love the staff and the food. Having traveled in Japan, I can say that the food and the experience approximate what I saw in Japan. If you are visiting Atlanta and hankering for sushi, you MUST come here. It's a little out of the way, but worth the trip.

Seeing the good reviews (which I know can mean nothing) and a very interesting menu in Japanese on the website made me want to try this out. On arrival it had an immediate feeling of “not quite Japanese.” The Chinese style decorations and large, glossy menu with photos was part of it for me. “No Japanese menu any more,” I was told. Not really made by Japanese any more they said. I wouldn’t have gone otherwise, probably. They nevertheless had some of my favorites on the English menu. But most had something non-Japanese about it. The beef tongue shio had no or very little salt taste, arrived cold and was very tough. The skewers of gizzard, heart and pork belly were good, although some of the lemons smelled as if cut up many hours ago (but some were okay). The nasu denkaku was deep fried and very greasy. The gyu tataki was marinated, something I think is done to beef that isn’t fresh enough to serve mostly raw. The gindara was over sauced, so the delicate taste of the fish was lost. They have fresh wasabi as a menu item, so I figured it would be fresh ground root. Instead it was a dish of pickled (“prepared”) wasabi and some that still tasted like the kind in a tube with bits of leaves and stems mixed with daikon and something hot. I know there is real, ground frozen available, but it didn’t taste like that. The shishamo was also okay, but also tasted deep fried instead of grilled. The baked mussels were okay, but I would call them more Korean than Japanese in the flavor. The spinach gomae was okay – too much sauce and not finely cut enough, so sloppy to eat. The sanma shioyaki (salt grilled pike) was instead deep fried and not grilled or salted - and very greasy. The chawan mushi was perhaps the most authentic tasting thing. Sadly, cheaper masago roe was substituted for the more expensive flying fish roe (tobiko) – as if I wouldn't notice? The salmon row was also a disappointment. It tasted old as if in water to rehydrate it and thus lose any flavor. The hamachi was actually quite good, but the o-toro (at $8/piece) looked wrong, in that it looked cut from a very even block (ie, not from a fresh fish) and was slightly old, fishy tasting and greasy (as when fat degenerates). Should never be that way at any price. So it just didn’t seem right to me and I was missing the two excellent Japanese restaurants I have visited in this same area. Oh well. しょうがない. By the way, the service was friendly and efficient.

I liked the food here but the building feels more like a diner than an authentic Japanese restaurant. It's like walking into a Japanese Waffle House! Pretty ok if that makes sense. The food makes up for the atmosphere and cheesy geisha girls.

Nice place, good food that was overpriced. In the end i would not go back here but it was authentic and good.

We have been regulars at Sushi Huku for several years. They recently renovated - in the last couple of years - and it's very pretty and inviting. The sushi is always fresh and wonderful. The staff is attentive and efficient. We also order take out about once a month. We have tried many sushi places and always comment that nothing beats Sushi Huku. My husband has brought business associates from overseas who have loved it and said great things about the food. Wine list is a little weak - my only complaint.

I recently met a colleague and friend for lunch to catch up. He chose Sushi Huku and I am glad he did. It was not crowded (understand it can be quite crowded at lunch) and we got a booth right away. We both ordered different rolls, which we shared. And we also ordered a combination of sashemi and sushi and it was prefect. Fresh fish, great service and a constantly full green tea cup provided an outstanding dining experience. It is obvious that the key to good sushi is freshness and this establishment clearly does enough volume to keep their offerings fresh and interesting. It is a bit out of the way but if you are on the north side of Atlanta you should treat yourself to lunch or dinner at this delightful establishment.

Very authentic Japanese ambiance with great food. The sushi, the miso soup and it's different varieties were great. Nice relaxed atmosphere.

There is some reassuring about walking in to a Japanese restaurant and all the staff are Japanese and nobody comes to the table and sing songs "Hi my name is Cindy". The food here is excellent and the service attentive and friendly. I took my grandchildren on one occasion and they went out of their way to accommodate.. The sushi/sashimi is the freshest and very creative and the apps and hot items always hot and delicious. We have been a number of times and the consistency is astounding.

Moving into a new neighborhood, Sushi Huku showed up near the grocery store and ... I was hungry. Thought I'd give the local place a try. WOW! was I ever glad I did! This place is wonderful. Lots of atmosphere, nothing phony; excellent in every detail. My best friend arrived for a visit the next weekend and we ate there THREE times because ... we couldn't help ourselves. Everything fresh, delicious, served with authenticity and competence. Only possible improvement they could make would be to open 24x7 for those late-night sushi cravings. Go ahead; try it. Then try it again. You're welcome.

We were in search for a good Japanese joint for dinner meeting, and hotel recommended this place. they are Korean own business but one spoke fluent Japanese and took an order from our Japanese guest (phew) Tapas was great, not too Americanized and good variety of options. Also what's so great about HUKU is they have a menu with pictures, so non-English speakers could point and order. brilliant! Sushi is typical American maki rolls to more traditional nigiri. they were all fresh and fantastic. Despite the English name of this venue isn't right (should've spelled FUKU, not HUKU...understandably not suitable for the Americans), even Japanese people could eat there, so they are well worth visiting.

I’ve been by this restaurant thousands of times and had concluded they must just sell drugs because most of the time no cars in the lot. I was wrong. The restaurant is legit, sushi is very good—excellent, service is quite pleasant. Not Umi quality but delicious and fresh sushi, a huge menu, and quite reasonable. We had several rolls (dragon roll was excellent) and sushimi (salmon and tuna the highlights) and nigiri. Service efficient and friendly. I recommend this place.

I work nearby and usually at least once a week I have stop by here and eat some of the best sushi that I've ever had in my life! I love that the quality is consistent and the service is excellent. I've introduced many of my colleagues to this restaurant and they all love it!

Great neighborhood spot where you can rely on enjoying your favorite dishes time and again. Authentic atmosphere and nice service. A go-to spot.

Went to Sushi Huku for lunch with friends, hoping to get my teeth into some good, fresh, plump nigiri sushi. We weren't given a sushi a la carte menu at all, but were given a flashy, laminated page with full color photographs of their featured rolls, which were described in detail and looked and sounded delicious. The regular menu featured special obento boxes for lunch or special sushi combos. No pictures but well described. So, since we didn't have a lot of time, I ordered off the obento box menu, which gave you two proteins plus rice, pickled veggies, and steamed veggies and wasabi and pickled ginger. I chose fried oysters and spicy tuna roll as my proteins. The spicy tuna roll was good; the fried oyster was a lot of fairly heavy fried breading around a core of good oyster. Too much breading spoiled what could have been a nice oyster treat. We shared one of the featured, full-color rolls, the Dragon Roll, which was an eel roll. It was really delicious, but at $14.95, it should have been. So, what am I saying? I just wanted nigiri sushi and I still want it. Don't get me wrong, what I ate (aside from the fried oyster) was good, but for those prices (see the menu) I'd rather spend it on sushi and get my raw fish fix. OK, I'll go back for dinner to see if the plain sushi is as good as I remember it, then I'll let you know.

My husband and I went here today and we had a fabulous experience! Our service was great and most of our food was awesome. We love sushi, we've had sushi from Minneapolis, DC & Charleston. We have been to ATL 5 times and this was our best experience so far. We went there specifically for their sushi. We sat at the sushi bar, ordered 5 rolls and soup & salad came out within minutes. They have a ginger, lemon peanut vinaigrette as their dressing which was delicious! The miso soup was ok. We ordered the Hawaiian, Home Depot, Godzilla, Geisha & the Baked Salmon rolls. Hawaii: Phenomenal! The chef makes it with coconut shrimp. I loved it because it does not have any sauce on top of it. Home Depot: Also phenomenal! This is made with fried sea scallops with a cream sauce on top that was great! Godzilla: This was ok. This roll was made really large (2x the size of a normal roll). It was deep fried and drench in a a nonviscous brown sauce that wasn't sweet. The roll fell apart because it was not rolled tight. I would not recommend this roll. Geisha: This was the normal plenty of fish with sauce roll, similar to a rainbow roll. Baked Salmon Roll: This was interesting. We did not care for it. The roll consisted of salmon & parmesan cheese on top, then baked. The cheese added a different flavor that we did not like with our sushi. The waitresses were really nice and on top of their game. I had plenty of water! The sushi chef gave us some japanese rice and seaweed to go because we were "out of towers", it was on the house. It was mighty nice of him! We would definitely go back to try their other rolls!

Sushi-Huku is awesome. The fish was crazy fresh and prepared by master chefs. The waitress dressed in kimono brought out edamame to munch on while waiting for the order. Nice touch since most places charge four bucks. I had tuna tataki, mackerel sushi, spicy tuna hand roll, and bonito sushi. All perfectly prepared. Will try the noodle bowl next time.

I've had sushi all over Atlanta and nothing really tops this modest sushi restaurant in the publix parking lot! Classic authentic feel inside and amazing sushi. I love their spicy tuna roll as well as their more adventurous sashimi. We often tell the chef to surprise us and have never been disappointed. Excellent for client lunches during the week or a more rowdy sake fueled evening with friends and coworkers.

Shaved off one star because it's not the BEST sushi place I've been to here in Atlanta but it's definitely one of the better ones. Ambience is great but what I loved is the service. Big shout out to Rachel! She's probably the best waitress I've ever encountered here in Atlanta. We ordered the toro roll, which was good but I should've gone with my gut to get it nigiri style instead because I prefer larger pieces than cut up ones put inside a roll. As in every sushi place we go to, we got the chirashi don to gauge how fresh their fish is and I give theirs 8/10. There's only one place I've given 10/10 and that's Circle Sushi. Another thing I liked about this restaurant is that we didn't have to choose either ramen or sushi as we can have both here and luckily that night they had special Tonkotsu. It was super comforting!

Very good food and the service was excellent really good plum wine and great sushi but the service was the best

I went twice in two days as this was the closest walkable for me. I found this as a good sushi place, above average - tried other dishes too. The taste was good. It would have been better if quantity was more. I am not sure if this is the best sushi place in Atlanta, but it worked.

Based on all the reviews I was expecting something very good. Maybe my sushi experience is more than others, or possibly my taste buds are just different, but this place was just ok. The Octopus was small in comparison with other sushi rest. I visit, and the Lambada roll was appealing to the eye, but lacked the flavor I'm used to at my favorite sushi place in Dallas. Rather than come back here on my next visit to ATL, I'll look fr something better.

WOW. This place was perfect. I could (and try to) eat sushi daily...and THIS place was by far the best. I will return. The staff is all amazing and the clientele was largely Japanese. We sat at the bar to watch the magic. The ingredients are beautiful and the presentations perfectly simple. The rice! Oh, the rice. Best sushi rice I've met. Perfectly prepared. It's separateness and togetherness was paradoxical. I complimented the rice, and the chef said they use the best in the world. I believe him. Everything we ordered was better than I expect my sushi to be. So very lovely. Raw scallop nigiri, basic fish rolls, perfect avocados, fancy complex rolls. Just great. I will return.

This is a small, Japanese restaurant located in front of a Publix. If you planning to dine at Sushi Huku on a Friday or a Saturday night, I highly recommend that you take the time to make a reservation. This is because there are only a handful of booths and tables. There is, however, plenty of seating at the bar where you can watch your sushi being made. There are also two traditional Japanese rooms for larger groups/parties. The menu is subdivided by sushi, sashimi and more traditional Japanese dishes. Most of their sushi rolls are similar to what is offered by other restaurants, with the exception of the Home Depot roll. However, the descriptions of their sushi rolls are more detailed than most and best of all, there are pictures of the rolls. All of the menu items have the Japanese name beneath it. Despite the busy-ness of the restaurant, our waitress took the time to slowly pronounce some of the items for us so that we could order the same item in the future in Japanese. My husband ordered the Chef’s Choice meal, which he said was excellent. Not only did his meal come with the chef’s choice of sushi, it also included miso soup, house salad and (what turned out to be a custard) dessert- all for under $20. I ordered the Lambada roll, which is a mix of different types of fish that is not fried and does not contain cream cheese. It too was also excellent. For an appetizer, we ordered the grilled octopus legs. This too was good, cooked perfectly so that the octopus legs were grilled lightly on the outside, but slightly chewy on the inside. The only negative that I have to say about the food is that the appetizer was served to us after we had received our sushi. From the time that we ordered to the take that we received our sushi, less than ten minutes had passed. This is because they had THREE sushi chefs working behind the counter. Prior to dining at Sushi Huku, I did read some of the reviews from the other diners. It is true that Sushi Huku is more expensive than other sushi restaurants by two to three dollars more. However, the sushi is extremely fresh. To my husband and me, it was worth it to pay a few dollars more for the freshness. Also, I did not see this mentioned in other views and perhaps it was just an “off” night for the restaurant, but it was cold in the restaurant. Not freezing, but definitely cold. Many diners, including my husband and me, did not remove our coats in the restaurant. If it is like this all of the time, I would suggest that you dress warmly.

We have been to Sushi Huku so many times. We also tried many different Sushi restaurant in town and this is my favorite. We normally only ordered the signature sushi rolls and Tempura, which are the best.

This was walkable to my hotel, surprise, so I walked over for takeout and was satisfied because it was good and reasonably priced. I had the California roll and an order of salmon nigiri. The salmon was fresh and delicious. I wish I had asked, but didn't, and the crab in the California roll is the shredded in mayo kind instead of solid. I don't prefer that kind, but it was tasty.

Stopped in and was seated right away. There were plenty of open tables. I had the tofu miso soup and it was quite tasty. I also had the koda roll, a square sushi with no seaweed. It was full of flavor. Service was solid. The floors were sticky.. Plenty of free parking. Great sushi experience.

A neighborhood sushi restaurant with lovely ambience and great sushi. The menu is long and accommodating. The soup and tempura especially good and there are authentic dishes that are not available in the standard sushi restaurant.

This sushi place is one of my family's favorites in Atlanta (Note: I will post on a couple of others as well). We have been going there for many years and it has proven itself to be consistently very good with a large selection of high quality items. Most recently, we visited while being in town to take the JLPT in Atlanta. I happily spent quite a bit of money and we all enjoyed the evening (Of course, if you limit what you order, you can have a nice meal at a reasonable price). Besides authentic Japanes food, they also have real keg beer imported from Japan that was very good (As a side note, you may not be aware of this, but over the last few years Japanese beers have localized to California and Canada (Look at the bottle next time to see this is now true for most of the major Japanese beer companies). So the variety is exceptional, the interior feels like Japan, and it is very convenient if you are North of the city proper (Right off of I-75 on I-285).

these folks are great ... seriously traditional dress and styled experience ... you know you are in the right place when you see high numbers if asians eating there too

Was taken there by Japanese business associates. They ordered all the items and drinks it was a real treat and feast for the eyes. Everything was presented very well and I found the great majority of the items very tasty. If you are looking for authentic Japanese cuisine this certainly should be a destination if you are in the area.

The specially rolls are just the best sushi I ever tasted! They are definitely one of the best sushi in Atlanta. We ate there everyday during our stay in Atlanta.

This is my second favorite Sushi restaurant in Atlanta. Great ambiance, from the sushi bar to the private rooms. Definitely not simple, their dynamic signature sushi rolls are delicious, but often more than a mouthful. I will go back again and again and suggest that you do too!
Great Japanese Restaurant
If you are in the Wyndham Atlanta Galleria Hotel, this would be a great place to have dinner or lunch.
