We ate dinner twice at Sushi Junai and it was very convenient to walk here from our hotel. There was the option to do the all you can eat and it was a reasonable price; however, I wasn't hungry enough on both occasions to justify all you can eat. A word of advice from our server, you must choose All You Can Eat when you first place your order. You cannot go back and choose to AYCE after the initial order. If you choose AYCE, you must eat what you have ordered before you are allowed to order anything else. As stated, no one in our party decided to do AYCE and I was still very satisfied with the reasonable prices and value. The sushi rolls were very fresh and presented well. I had the OMG roll and it was fantastic. The waitress we had the first night was very informative about the rolls and the AYCE policy. The second night was busier, and the service was lacking. It took us quite some time to get our check and we had to ask another waitress to handle it. The restaurant is small and cozy, but when it was super busy the second night, it was very loud. The first evening, we were in before the rush, so the experience was more enjoyable.

I have a chance to dine in this restaurant. There are extensive menus including many different types of sushi/rolls, starters, rices/udons, and a few desserts. I choose all-you-can-eat, which is about USD30 from 3pm to 10pm for 90 minutes(note: it is about USD22 for lunch). The spicy tuna/salmon rolls are very tasty, the seaweed salad and the cold tofu are of great quality too). There are not many tables in the restaurant, though there are a few bar tables. Be prepared to come early!!

Really delicious sushi at great prices. The service was quick, and the waitstaff were all very friendly. The restaurant is also in a great location!

All you can eat specialty rolls! Very tasty $20 value, also includes dessert!!! What!!!! Stop the madness! Nice atmosphere. Gets crowded quickly also has other options besides sushi!!!

We all enjoyed this very much. We passes on the all you can eat. Just not that hungry. I would certainly consider it another. Good fresh fish.

Made to order all you can eat which is a great treat. Definitely plan to have a yearly visit when I am in town.

The hotel we stayed at was a few blocks from here. arrived at 14:55. they gave us the all you can eat deal even though there was 5 minutes left. The rolls were decent sized & 8 pieces per roll. They were not stingy was the sauce on the rolls. Service was not bad, we got the younger female to serve us. The price was pretty good for the AYCE. would recommend this place.

Went in for dinner and our server pointed out the all you can eat option for us, priced at $30. Since many of the sushi rolls are more than $10, we opted for this. Between the two of us we ordered about 7 or 8 different rolls. All were nicely presented. My main feedback, I guess, is that somehow many of them tasted the same. Probably will not visit again.

Get here early if you want to avoid a LONG (1-2 hours) wait. Once you do get a table, the sushi (salmon sashimi in particular) is really pretty good (especially for Austin). It's all you can eat, and you keep ordering off the menu (as opposed to gross buffets), but you have to finish all your food or else you'll end up paying full price. Lunch is $19.99/per person and Dinner is around $27

We arrived quite late in the day, but were seated and fed very quickly! Didn't do the all-you-can-eat, but plenty looked to be enjoying that (you get pretty much full run of the entire menu on that!) Good drinks selection, and food to suit every taste (well, so long as you like Japanese food!) - small bites and bigger plates.

Stopped in this little gem of a place several times this summer. Sushi is always fresh, and the spicy ramen soup is yummy. Haven't done the "all you can eat" as my appetite wouldn't allow it....and there are too many other items I like to try. My daughter and I usually share 4-5 menu items (including appetizers) and try new things. Lunch time can be busy with all the businesses in the area so I try to stop by between lunch and dinner but would love to see what the dinner crowd is like. We enjoy most of the wait staff especially Carly and the young men they are always pleasant and attentive. Prices are good and so is the atmosphere though parking can be tricky like most of the Capitol area. Love this place and will continue to stop by any time I'm in Austin! Keep up the good work!

This pertains to the Sushi Junai 2 location off Parmer Lane -- not good! Service was kind, if a bit rushed, but the sushi was warmish and seemed not to be fresh. The side salads were good, but the spicy ramen was not. Heavy on onion and seemed to have been in a warming pot for some time. It's unlikely we'll return.

Awesome food!!!! Service was a little slow but there was a crowd!!! Every table was full. Worth the wait Great value

The sushi was great, and very fresh tasting. They have a lot of unique rolls to choose from, and everything has a very nice presentation.

It’s an Americanized sushi place, a lot of people but did not need to wait on Saturday 6:30. $30 for young people go by all you can eat is a good deal (wish I was still young), most of items on the menu (except red bolt fonts) are available for as many as you like to order, from 1 order (2pc) to 10 orders or many, and small size of sushi, nigiri, even sashimi (3 or 4 thin slices with some spiced on top, I did not like it). If you think it is a authentic Japanese sushi, you will probably be disappointed, otherwise it is a nice place for sushi eaters. Miso soup was good, Agedashi tofu was also good. Mochi ice cream at the end close our meal. Overall is not bad.

This restaurant is always packed. Make a reservation or get on the waitlist. We had Salmon Lovers and All Night Long Chef Specialties. Each bite was delectable. The hot sake was also great. I cannot wait to return to savor other delights.

After we figured out how it worked, we ordered the best sushi we have ever eaten. The "All You Can Eat Concept" is neat at Sushi Junai. You get to try some of the best sushi ever, at a great price. And this even includes a dessert cup. You just cannot beat it for the selection and choice you can get. Too, most of the sushi looks like works of art, so you don't want to eat them....just look at them. It is fun, Cheap and good.

I went to Sushi Junai since I had some time downtown and was hungry for some good sushi. For $30 I had my pick of anything on the extensive menu. This is not cheap buffet style sushi, it is high quality and incredibly fresh. Great ramen, excellent bulgogi...really nothing I tried was not exceptional. My only complaint was the music...two tracks going at once: one in the dining room and another in the kitchen, competing with each other. No one was the winner and the ambience paid the price.

My husband and I stopped here for lunch because it was right across the street from our hotel. The server recommended the all you can eat sushi lunch for $20. It's a great deal! There are so many tasty rolls to choose from and the sushi is very fresh! I can't look at other sushi restaurants the same anymore knowing that this place exists. It's just so hard to beat this place.

Stopped there during my business visit & was pleasantly surprised by very attentive service & great food! Loved it!

After reading all the TA reviews, 3 of us decided to try out Sushi Junai. The restaurant was packed but we were able to get a table during prime lunchtime. We ordered many different rolls as well as some nigiri. Sushi was fresh and service was terrific!

If your a sushi lover then this location is a MUST! Lunch is 20.00 all you can eat in an hour and dinner is 30.00 all you can eat in 90 mins. Hole-in-the-wall vibe, and the sushi will not disappoint!!! You can order as much as want and everything on the menu is fair game....but, don’t leave anything on your plate or you will be charged extra. This was not a problem for us, since everything is delicious and if everyone in your party does the all you can eat, you can share between you. I could have eaten at Sushi Junai for every meal if I had my way! Don’t miss this location!!!!!!

3 stars isn’t bad, just average. The sushi came quickly. And it was okay but not great. Service was fine. I’ll eat elsewhere next meal though.

What a great new satellite spot! Amazing all you can eat experience., Every roll we chose was divine. The chefs were all ready to throw down on any roll we requested. AND tell us about all the rolls & how it was prepped. I'm happy to say I have my own set of chopsticks in a lovely wooden box that I carry with me everywhere. :) Seriously tho, the food quality was off the chain.

This has got to be Austin's best and freshest Sushi. You cannot beat the prices and the service is great. If you get there early enough for the "all you can eat sushi, you are going to get your best deal ever. But you have to eat it all or you pay dinner like prices for it. All the food always has a wonderful presentation and great taste.

Amazing deal, and even better food! Friends showed me this place while on vacation and couldn't stop eating I could spend all day here... Try the Lasagna roll, Black Jack, and the Ex Girlfriend..

I have been frequenting all you can eat sushi places since I was a kid, and this is the best one i have found in years. The menu is fairly extensive (as shown) and you have the option to order off both sides of the sheet. That includes all kinds of nigiri, tons of rolls of various styles, plenty of cooked dishes as well as appetizers and deserts. As always, the freshness depends on how close you are to fish day, but when i went the quality was much higher than the past few places i have been. They are quite close to the UT campus, so there is always a steady stream of customers. To that end, showing up before 5 on the weekends is advisable. I will be back again soon because the price is much more reasonable than most other all you can eat, especially for a place that lets your order off the menu. Happy Feasting!

I am a huge sushi snob and have to say this place surpassed my expectations! They sat us rather quickly and the food was amazing! We are not locals and sushi can be hit or miss when traveling. This was a great find! Highly recommend.

These comments are about the downtown location only, the North Austin location is very much better. Downtown is a bit run down, the menus dog-eared and stained, the staff slow and not very attentive. The young lady who waited on us did not introduce herself, although she did smile, did not seem to understand our sushi order, then brought me the wrong items than I ordered...twice. We waited for corrections. There is a 90 minute limit on how long you can order sushi, (eat as long as you like) but no limit on how slow the staff can go. Annoying. The cucumber wrapped fish roll is my favorite, and I was told that I couldn’t have it because no one had prepped the cucumbers that day. I asked for it wrapped in soy or rice wrapper instead and it was not the same. We were there about an hour, and while we still had sushi on our platter, the waiter told us the chef said we didn’t need to finish, would we like our check now or maybe some dessert and then took my dishes and chopsticks away so I finished the sushi with my fingers. We each had a green tea mochi. The mochi was fine. Mind you, we were nice quiet customers celebrating an occasion, I did not get upset with the staff for bringing the wrong orders, ( the second time I could have, but still didn’t). There was no reason to treat us this way... So we’re not going back to the downtown location, we’ll make the drive north.

Great service and excellent sushi! Can order so many different rolls and sashimi, along with noodles, tempura and other great dishes. I read the other poor review and it just did. It apply - the staff was excellent! We will be back again and again - just cannot believe we missed this place before - so so good!

I went with a friend and she got Udon noodle soup and I got a lunch special that included sushi, miso soup, and a salad. It was all delicious,

Sushi is good and the all you can eat is a pretty good deal for the money. Get there early or you will wait for both a seat and your food,

Such a welcome break from heavy southern food. Not to say it wasn't filling though- feeling very satisfied! I'd come back if I lived here.

Close to hotels. Average sushi. Good service. Nothing exotic, so expect very standard fare. Services other Japanese fare as well.

I was overwhelmed when I went for lunch with a friend. I ordered the all you can eat and the sushi rolls were large and very good. I did not have enough stomach to try too many rolls. Friend thought it was very good and he eats more sushi than I do. I will be going back.

One of the best sushi places in Austin and it's all you can eat! Try the desserts, too, they're really good.

Come to Sushi Junai!! You will not regret it. And don't even think about not getting the All You Can Eat. At under $30 for all the sushi, apps, and desserts you can eat, it's the best deal I've ever had in a restaurant. The sushi is of outstanding quality for the price and the service is usually very good. My favorites include: - Candy Cane Roll - Garlic Tuna Nigiri - Screaming O App - Ice Brownie Dessert

I went to dinner on Saturday and expected to have to wait. Fortunately I was early enough that I was seated at the sushi bar immediately. I took advantage of the all you can eat menu, which is really the entire menu, for $30. The quality of the sushi is very, very high. I thoroughly enjoyed all of my selections, both nigiri and rolls. The Yuzu Hamachi was especially good. The only thing that I will warn you about is that the sushi slices are slightly thinner than I consider usual. I think this is because it is on the all you can eat menu. Also, you must finish everything that you order, or they will charge you for the leftovers. It was not a problem for me. I wanted to eat everything that I could get my hands on, and I did not even go there hungry.

Arrived at 9. They close at 10. Waiter asked me 3 times if "if I was ready yet?" when I was still pondering the menu. Finally told him to stop pestering me, because I was still deciding. When I ordered, the food - pretty good - came out quickly. But I was ignored the rest of meal, as the staff hurriedly prepped for the next day. Obvious that they cared more about getting out of the building than waiting on folks. Less than gracious...young staff with little direction or training, it seems. A real disappointment. Unlikely to go back. Restaurant likely will need to die a slow death.

Kind of confused about the little sign in by the door. But the servers were kind and the food was awesome

Food: We ordered three starters and three mains. The highlight for me was the Black Cod Misoyuan-Yaki plate - when the menu said it's baked to perfection it really is! The seasoning on it is excellent. The other highlight was the Agedashi tofu, which was perfectly fried with a light crisp exterior and a soft interior that just melted in our mouthes. The food was all expertly seasoned and tasted fresh. A lot of downtown Japanese food features ghastly over-seasoning and dousing in super-sweet / salty sauce - Junai was the opposite and just perfect! We loved all the dishes except the Gyoza, which we would've skipped next time since it was dry. Starters: Gyoza (5pc) (Pan fried Japanese style dumplings) 7 Agedashi Tofu (Silken firm tofu, is lightly dusted with potato starch and deep fried until golden brown) 8 Chicken Karaage (Japanese cooking technique in which chicken are deep fried in oil) 9 Mains: SASHIMI DINNER - Sashimi (10pc) + Classic Roll + Seaweed salad 32 Black Cod Misoyuan-Yaki Plate (Marinated in Saikyo Miso and baked to perfection, Black Cod with Miso & Soy and asparagus, mushroom, onion, carrot) 25 Seafood Yaki Udon (Assorted seafood and vegetable, stir fried udon noodle) 12 Service was excellent. We were graciously seated by the hostess and had our orders taken. The kitchen was flexible and offered to accommodate some our party, who wanted cooked fish instead of raw sashimi. Ambience felt like a Japanese oasis in the middle of downtown Austin. Junai is tucked above a bar but the entryway opens to a faux Sakura tree, which breaks down the booth segment of the restaurant from the omakase bar segment. Value: Our total (food, tax, and tip) came out to just under $120, which was mid-range to pricy ($40/person for starter and non-pricy main) but we felt it was worth it given we were exceedingly stuffed with delicious food paired with great service. Overall, I loved Junai and can't wait to return and taste their perfectly cooked Black Cod Misoyuan-Yaki plate again.

If you think about the last couple of times you've gone and eaten sushi, the bill can get pretty up there, while the sampling of rolls/sushi is usually limited. Why not sample as much of the menu as you want, with the caveat that you have to eat EVERYTHING you ordered, otherwise they tack on the cost of the dish that you didn't eat onto the base price. Brilliant, right? What's even better is that the menu is extensive, and the food is made to order. You can't make reservations here, but it's worth the wait.

It is a good spot for sushi but not on mondays when the head chef is out...the service sucks and no doy cafés.

I went for lunch with colleagues. I had gotten the AUCE sushi. I got 3 rolls and miso soup. The sushi and soup were good. I especially enjoyed the Mexican roll.

Wonderful Sushi/Japanese experience. We had a great lunch. Fish was very fresh and the presentations of our selections were a works of art. New restaurant but hopefully a lasting one. Highly recommend. We are sorry we couldn’t experience the omakase dinner. Maybe next time we are in Austin.

Visited this restaurant several times, the food always high quality. Endless drinks~Very lovely staff~Back today for lunch.

I had a Tuna Roll and some Seaweed Salad. The Seaweed Salad wasn't very fresh, but it did have decent flavor. The Tuna Roll was okay, but nothing spectacular and the Ginger wasn't too fresh. However, overall this is a good restaurant to go to with a nice vibe.

I have been going to SJ from week one of their opening and I have gone back at least 150 times...That's not a joke. Everyone there knows me by name and I bring everyone I know from in town and out of town to eat there. You will never be disappointed.

Went here on the 2nd for my daughter's birthday and had 15 people with us and we were seated quickly and everyone's order was correct! They brought us roll after roll! It was so good we went again the next weekend!

We read about this place in a Yelp review and mentioned it to friends when we were visiting Austin. They had been there and said it was actually good, so we gave it a try. I will start off by saying that I am not a fan of typical buffets where the food is out for people to sneeze all over it, but that is not what you get here. You get made to order sushi ordered off the menu for an all you can eat price ($30 for dinner). So what's the catch? You are limited to one hour for lunch and 90 minutes for dinner and if you have food leftover/wasted they will charge you for it. So we were four adults and started with a few appetizers and rolls. We added rolls and ultimately tried most of the menu. So I recommend you start with a few and order more food as you need to to avoid over-ordering. I was also worried about getting rolls overstuffed with rice and just a bite of fish. The rolls had the proper amount of rice and the fish portions were generous. Not only that, but the fish was fresh and the roll choices were numerous. All the rolls we had were good to great. The sauces sounded weird to me at first...mustard and strawberry? But everything work and isn't what you expect reading the menu. The service is good and efficient as well. I have to say that we will be back when we visit Austin. Just don't forget to order some Mochi ice cream for dessert!

Did a to go order with friends! Sooo yummy. The to go order was also so fresh. We ordered sushi and rolls. Loved it

Had a good experience our first time trying out Sushi Junai 2 on Parmer Lane at lunch time. My husband and I had the "all you can eat" buffet while our kids ordered a la carte. Our kids don't eat enough to warrant $21.95 all you can eat. Individually, the kids a la carte items totalled $20 for both kids. I had hot green tea which was an additional charge. No jasmine tea available, just green tea. The green tea was good. Of the specialty rolls, I recommend the salmon strip and the caterpillar rolls. The salmon lover roll had way too many sliced onions all over it. We loved the agadashi tofu, vegetable tempura and mochi ice cream.

The all you can eat deal they have here is amazing. Stick to the nagiri because you can fill up pretty quickly on the rolls. Everything is wonderful too! Eat as much as you can!

The restaurant is small in size and there is often a wait on Friday and Saturday night. The restaurant is near the Hampton Inn where we were standing. My husband and ordered sushi, it was delicious. They offer a variety of sushi and it was hard to pick just a few rolls. Our son had shrimp fried rice and a chicken teriyaki box. The chicken was a little dry, but still good. The "lunch box" included white rice, pot stickers, salad, grilled chicken, shrimp and veggie tempura. He loved the food. The food was very inexpensive. We definitely would come again.

Wonderful spot, hidden gem! This place as only been open for 3 months and this place is definitely going to flourish!! My fiancé and I stumbled into it looking for a good sushi restaurant that was in walking distance from our hotel! The fact that the majority of the seating revolves around the bar made it super enjoyable and quaint. We loved watching the chefs prepare all the meals! Will definitely be back when I visit Austin again!!

We came here for dinner on a Tuesday night around 7 and had to eat at the bar because all of the tables were full! By the time we had eaten there was a line outside the door - on a Tuesday! We ate around $100 worth of sushi for about half the price. Our favorite roll we tried was the Junai special. They also had a great selection of sushi pieces. We will definitely be coming back and making this a regular spot.

I'm with the preceding review; a 3 isn't bad. Sushi Junai is a conveniently located, neighborhood sushi restaurant. The "all you can eat" option isn't my thing and I choose not to use it. I did order sashimi which isn't on the menu but offered on request. Eight pieces of sashimi; one sushi roll (scallops). All eight pieces of sushi were too cold; almost frozen. I may have misordered or misread the menu but the scallops, although good flavor, were not "raw" scallops; they had some type of preparation. I ordered a seaweed salad that was huge and overdressed. [It would have been nice to know that a huge amount seawood salad also anchors the sashimi plate]. Good news: sake was cold.

So....the other week i needed to get something from the hobby shop next door to this place but i was really hungry. I was curious what the former "Thompson's Buffet" had turned into after they closed so i opened the door and had a peak. Well i'll be a son of a ****! It was beautiful and even better----it was a sushi restaurant. Needless to say, i sat my fat butt down on a bar stool and opened the menu. Mmmmmmmmm.........Yummmmmmmmm. Next, the waiter came by and asked if i would like the "all you can eat sushi" for twenty something bucks. Yes. Yes i would like to do just that. Well, long story short.....a few hours later my belly made me look as if i was going to drop twins any moment. I was busting at the seams but my body was happy. I know this to be true because on the way out i popped into the gents room to wash my hands and noticed this strange smile on my face. It was something of a cross between culinary bliss or someone who took 1 too many hits of LSD and since i gave up the latter many years ago i have decided that the food really was that good!

Easily the best sushi I've had stateside. All you can eat sushi, though it's not buffet style. It is one price dining, unless you waste food, then it's priced per item. Large menu selection with the traditional rolls and nigiri, while they also have several specialty rolls with interesting combinations. All was prepared well, with one exception; the bulgogi was under done... way underdone. Everything else was great. When we arrived the crowd was quite small, but by the time we finished, there was a line well outside the door. Service was dreadfully slow and it can get confusing, so be patient and order large for your first go round. It was loud, but pleasant; a mostly younger Asian crowd, chatting away made for a quite noisy meal, but as I said, it was pleasant. Our bill was incorrect, but they fixed it right away; check your bill before giving up your credit card. Overall, I'd say this is a good restaurant with very good food. Pros: Good food; very pleasant atmosphere; reasonable price. Cons: Slow service; parking and closed on Sundays. I would recommend this restaurant.

The all you can eat deal is fantastic. Go with a group and you can share as long as everyone does the all you can eat deal. Fantastic tempura, wonderful rolls, everything is fresh and the flavors of the sauces and toppings are really unique. Tempura shrimp, garlic salmon sushi, and calamari are my favorites. Went with a group of 6 and had a great time sampling everything. Service is a bit slow, but order in a group of items so you can work your way thru before the next round. Be cautious and eat it all or they will charge you for any uneaten food.
Service was eh, one out of 6 orders done right the first time
Four teenage girls and my Fiancé and I went for lunch today. Food ordered and they came out and said out of salmon, no. Igor , they got chicken teriyaki. One of the two came out raw. I ordered Korean Bulgogi and they brought it as a roll, had to send back as I don't eat seaweed. Daughter ordered a specific roll with no hot sauce her friend repeated and ordered exact fhing. Friends came out perfect, my daughters had hot sauce. Never again.
