Very fresh Sashimi and tasty rolls. Take a stroll down the beach after an awesome sushi meal!

This is not in La Jolla. It's in La Jolla Beach. and there are not a lot of restaurants in La Jolla Beach -- especially ones that serve good food. Sushi Mori serves an excellent assortment of frest rolls at a reasonable price and they offer outdoor dining so you can sit close to the beach and watch the entertaining street scene. This is not great food, but it's better than anything we saw or tried in La Jolla Beach, and the place had a really friendly vibe. They didn't rush us. and after our meal, we just sat there drinking our big Sapporo beers and enjoying the setting sun. For more travel tips, please check out my popular travel blog.

Usually tourist locations do not really have worthy food to eat. However, I will say this place has decent bento box. Sashimi is too expensive though, so we did not try it. For hanging out, it has a great outside dining. The service was pretty good, the waitress continuously returned to check up on us.

The menu was easy to read. The selection was more than enough. The food is top notch! Price is a little high but that's La Jolla.

Visited December 2025. Located a few minutes walk from La Jolla Shores, Sushi Mori offers indoor and outdoor seating. We stopped by for a spontaneous sushi lunch and ordered a couple of basic rolls to share which came with the standard soy sauce, wooden chopsticks and fresh ginger. Service was swift and friendly. My only beef was that the plastic water "glasses" were yellowed and old looking and should probably be replaced. Parking: Free nearby neighborhood street parking which could be tough in the summer months. If this review was useful, please click the thumbs-up. đ

We chose this location bc we were near the beach and were really craving sushi. They had some interesting rolls that turned out to be very good. And the appetizer, that was amazing. I'm pretty sure it was the tempura shrimp one.

The food was.good, except for some uninspiring ikura, and the 20% off during happy hour helped keep our tab for three people down. Highlights included very tasty unfiltered sake, lovely Hawaiian roll with lots of fresh fish, and yummy white tuna sashimi. A great place to stop for dinner after enjoying the beautiful la Jolla Shores sunset!

We had a variety of sushi that was fresh, tasty and well presented. Happy hour gave us an unexpected 20% discount. Dining outside was pleasant.

They prep it all fresh and your order is ready in 15. It's about $8-12 for a roll, which is about 8pc. Very friendly staff, will return.

We walked over from our cousins' place and stopped for the happy hour service. I ordered an Asahi draft, which I hadn't had in a while. We really loved the creaminess of the california roll and the crispness of the nori that wrapped it. We ordered a few kinds of nigiri sushi, the maguro and hamachi. We also ordered tai but it turned out they were out, so the waiter recommended sea bass, which was excellent. It was a nice way to spend part of the afternoon!

Very creative and excellent tasting sushi rolls, very fresh and beautifully cut sashimi, great service, friendly staff. We come back often.

We visited Sushi Mori on a Sunday night while driving back from seaWorld to Los Angeles. The food is awesome and comparable to the seafood we experience living in Hawaii. We have two children and they found something they liked on the menu... Great food!!

My friend and I haven't been here in a while. We came for lunch, sat outside on the patio. Candice was our server, very nice and attentive. Service was excellent. We ordered a couple beers and Sake. I ordered the Sushi Roll Lunch special. My friend ordered the Jalapeño Yellow Tail, Eel Roll and Uni Sushi. All was good. Love this place for lunch or snack. Atmosphere: nice, indoor outdoor seating. Service: excellent. Food: good.

Had sushi and a bowl of udon. Great outdoor sitting and everything was exactly what we expected! Service was speedy.

Just tried out this place as I happened to be visiting La Jolla. I do not particularly recommend it. I'm a big fan of fusion/creative rolls, but the problems here are that 1) the products are not premium quality 2) they are overwhelmed by overly spicy sauce without any attention to the delicate taste of seafood. Too much 'carb substitute' or 'spicy tuna substitute' on their menu too, rather than the real thing. There are much better sushi/rolls options all along the California coast. And, fellow reviewers: this is not a `Japanese restaurant'. Its Californian/Japanese fusion - not at its best !

sitting outside, if only it had a beach view.. inside was a bit warm so we sat on the street had delicious fresh well mad sushi. The biggest plus is the biggest concern...the rolls way too many to choose between. on the mixed sushi plates the chef was willing to exclude things that you didnt like (for example I cant stand eel or shrimp) and they kept it out. Similarly in the Chirashi bowl they excluded things that were not liked. great stuff.

Famished after a kayak tour, we found this place for lunch, and it was just what we needed. Great value bento boxes and great value lunch menu with good size portions. The only downside is one meal came out a lot later than the other three (we had all finished eating), apologies were made, but no offer of any good will gesture to make up for it, which was disappointing.

Visited this spot in the Shores as we felt like Asian food . Had nice Happy Hour options. Serving staff was friendly and agreed with our observation that overweight middle age men with tattoos sitting shirtless on the patio as an "extension" of the beach was a definite turn off-ugh ! Service was fine. Screaming baby with parents who would not take it outside so all diners were impacted was not the fault of the location but definitely a negative.

Had the teriyaki bento - which had some fab vegetable tempura. Sashimi was out of this world. Good location, nice service.

Enjoyed an early dinner with the family. They were still on lunch practices and the portions were more than filling tried it all from bento boxes, fried rice and sushi. All of it was amazing. The staff is super friendly and fast. Sat outside to enjoy the beautiful weather.

Sushi was really good and they have a generous serving of sashimi as well. Really fresh food. Go during happy hour, 4-8 PM, Mon-Friday to get 20% off!

Went in for some sushi after a kayak tour. This place is just a few doors from where I took a kayak tour. They had a sign outside for lunch specials. I tried one and let me tell you, it was very good! they brought out a very fresh Shrimp crunch roll, then the salmon teriyaki with salad and rice. This is a great deal for $10.00. Very filling and good! I would recommend this place if your ever in the area and want some good sushi!!

We decided to try out Sushi Mori because it was only a couple of blocks from our hotel (La Jolla Shores). They have a great outdoor seating area with heated lamps for those cooler nights near the beach. My parents had never eaten sushi before, so we decided to order a mix of several different apps, rolls, and entreess so they could try different things. The portions are very good and the ingredients were fresh. We were also surprised with a 20 percent off discount on sushi during their happy hour which lasts about 4 hours.

Flavors were clean.. it was a bit run down and homey but the prices were reasonable and 20%off from 4-8 happy hour. It was much better than sushi ota which i had a few nights earlier and service was much more polite and less pretentious. It was a great meal after the day at the beach.

We've tried Sushi Mori a few times, each time expecting a better experience. The fish just never seems that fresh. Not worth a visit.

Went to a group of restaurants at avenida de la Playa in La Jolla Shores, we had seen heading to the beach earlier. Sat outdoors in table set on the well landscaped sidewalk. The setting was great the food greater and at reasonable prices and friendly waiter staff. Will definitely make it point to return often.

$10 pick your roll and meat plus rice and salad. The teriyaki salmon and teriyaki chicken were both great but the roll was really blah. And I'm not sure if it was the above room temperature fish, but we both had the bubble guts for the rest of the day after eating there.

Tasty well prepared delicious Japanese food. beautifully presented. Great staff. Moderate prices: gyoza $7 and they will make them steamed if requested (otherwise deep fried), seafood yakisoba $16, salmon teriyaki $20. Everything was great!

We walked by and saw the special for $11.95. I had the teriyaki beef, crunch shrimp roll, salad and soup. Try it!

Before hitting the beautiful La Jolla beach yesterday, we stopped at Sushi Mori which is just a short walk from the ocean. We sat outside where we were treated to friendly and efficient service as well as very good sushi. The lunch specials, especially the Bento boxes are priced well.

Went to grab a casual bite at this Sushi place after doing a bike tour of La Jolla. Was nice to eat outside along the street and see everyone walking by. A local favorite.

The lunch special is a good deal; get the crunch shrimp roll, it's more like a legit full roll. The salmon is hefty chunk of salmon in a roll. Very good quality but plain. Outdoor seating's good.

We had a late lunch here while on vacation, love the outdoor seating and the closeness to the beach. The food was super fresh and delicious. Great teriyaki sauce and bento box specials?

Friendly staff, god service, average sushi. The fish is fresh, but the dishes could be improved a lot. So, itâs all right, not the best sushi of your life.

Lunch with friends and we found the meal to be good. I was the only non-sushi eater at the table, choosing the seafood yakisoba instead. It's a noodle dish filled with shrimp, clams and wonderful spices. Given the great weather, we chose a table outside and had fun just watching the people go by. NOTE: the place is PURE Japanese..including the wait staff. Make sure you are both on the same page...especially when placing your order!!

Loved the rolls and loved the service. Great location to eat indoors or outdoors. Thumbs up for west coast sushi.

Sushi Mori is soooo good. Super friendly staff, great location down by La Jolla Shores, and a huuuge selection of rolls, all of which are delicious. Quality is definitely not sacrificed for quantity, though. Especially yummy are the no rice, cucumber-outside rolls.

We had dinner at Sushi Mori twice during our stay. The first night we had Tempura Udon soup and Mori Spicy Yum-Yum U-don, we also had umi sushi. All the food was fresh and tasty. The next night we had a Rainbow Roll and Chefs choice sushi. Again, all the sushi was fresh and tasty. We'll definitely go back.

We have come here a number of times. The food is fresh and the service is always very good. I recommend Sushi Mori for everyone--- nice for families also.

This place has amazing sushi. I and a friend had a great meal last night, simply tasty. We sat outside, and believe the prices and customer service was excellent. My friend had two large rolls, I had the tofu and Goyza. We will be back.

The sushi was very good and the price was even better. The service was good.Try the chef's recommendation of the day.

We ordered vegetable and tuna rolls for takeout. They were freshly made, light yet filling, and delicious.

We'd been looking for another sushi place in La Jolla which we'd found out had closed when we stumbled across this place. It was tucked into the small shops in La Jolla, very close to the beach. We lucked out and found a parking spot (it was evening and spaces fill up quickly). The restaurant is small but cozy and were were seated immediately. I always get the rainbow roll at whatever sushi place I go to, and my son got one as well, plus we tried their miso. Their rainbow rolls were absolutely delicious-super colorful and the fish was fresh. Their miso was good too, plus we had assorted sushi, all very fresh and good sized. The service was good and I'd definitely go back.

Atmosphere, Service, and ALL dishes were excellent. The value of all meals was the best of all restaurants we dined at in La Jolla Shores.

Nice little spot in La Jolla, with seating outside, which we loved. The prices are outrageous but the lunch specials are actually a good deal. The soup was good, the tempura was good, but the tuna roll was a miss, in our opinion. However, the presence of the crunchy shrimp roll on the lunch menu saved the day as it was really tasty.

My wife and visit Sushi Mori almost every 12th of every month (we where married on the 12th of October and thus celebrate our monthly anniversary). If you arrive before 8pm you get a 20% discount for "happy hour" (not including alcohol). The hot sake is excellent, so is the La Jolla Hill Role if you like spice. Make sure to split a Fried Seafood Tempura, it's to die for. My wife likes the Playboy Role and their hot green tea. After dinner, or before, make sure to take a stroll along La Jolla Shores which is just a few short blocks away.

What a great spot! Located in a fun dining and entertainment area we were seated outside. We were a bit late for our reservation so I called and they were very understanding and held our table for 5 on a busy night. The service was attentive and quick. My grandson loves sushi...as do I and we had great food. The best was it was affordable. Highly recommend and will certainly dine here again. Parking can be a challenge but I found a spot on the street a short walk to the restaurant.

We had a dinner here during our stay in beautiful, quite hilly, La Jolla. Our service was excellent - kind and prompt, sushi was delicious and beautifully plated. Loved the roll with baby lobster on top. Was SO good and so tender. We had four specialty rolls and loved them all! Loved the garden patio atmosphere, especially when the string lights turne on. The rolls, house cold sake (served in cool vase and with tiny ceramic cups), and a beer for $50. Really a good meal for a great price! Thanks Sushi Mori!

We ended up getting take out and the sushi was absolutely incredible. The tuna, the salmon, the sauces they used to season the incredibly fresh fish were all just beautifully done. Eating at this beautiful restaurant would have been a treat, but be sure to make reservations!

Upon arriving in LJS hungry from a long flight from the East Coast, our first mission was to find a good dinner. And find it we did! We chose Sushi Mori partially on the fact that it was later in the evening and they had later hours than most of the surrounding restaurants (which were all only yards from our AirBnB stay), but we were more than pleasantly surprised with how good the food was. Unfortunately, the pitcher of Sapporo we had with dinner did not allow me to remember the names of the 4 special rolls we ordered, but I can tell you that they were all INCREDIBLE. Sitting outside in the beautiful night eating some of the best sushi we've ever had and drinking great Japanese beer (one of many they had) was the perfect way to kick off our stay in LJS.

Ordered a single sushi roll - vegetable tempura - which was something different I hadn't seen before. Very large portions and excellent food at a very reasonable price. Nice outdoor seating also - very good!

After a kayak tour, we went to Sushi Mori for lunch and enjoyed friendly service, and their great deal lunch bento boxes. Good choice, we were not disappointed.

Decided to give this place a try, given its decent reviews as a more reasonably priced option for sushi in La Jolla. Headed over for dinner during their 20% off happy hour and were pleased with our meal. Food was fresh and affordable, service was quick and the location gave a great oceanfront vibe without being right on the water. The seafood salad and unagi maki were delicious, though not everything we got was stellar (spicy tuna maki was spicy but bland and a grilled fish appetizer seemed overcooked). Despite that, it may still be worth a repeat visit to try some of their signature maki and hang out again in La Jolla Shores.

The restaurant is one block from La Jolla beach, with inside and outside seatings. However there's no ocean view. The menu is predictable and typical of small Japanese restaurant. Oddly it offers bulgogi, a Korean beef dish. Perhaps this option reflects the nationality of the owners?! Five of us ordered a variety of dishes, covering chicken, beef, shrimp, scallop, salmon and octopus; in different styles: sashimi, sushi, teriyaki and tempura. Everything was good but not exceptional. The shrimp was definitely frozen, not fresh. We all agreed, however, that the servings were large. The price was reasonable for this part of town.

Had fresh maguro sashimi; the udon soup was tasty. Very polite wait staff; Korean specialties available (I didn't try them). ample seating,

This is a Korean run Japanese restaurant so they have the usual rolls, tempura and sushi. Nothing special. The grilled teryaki chicken was good, because it was almost like Korean barbq. Not bad, but not special either.

We get carry out from Sushi Mori every year we visit LaJolla Shores. Great place to sit down or carry out. VERY reasonable price and nice portions. Every item is made to order and fresh.

Having come from MN, my expectations may have been too high. I always hope for the most flavorful sushi near the coasts when I travel, but find that all to often it is no tastier, no cheaper, and no better presented than the average sushi restaurants in MN. This is the case for Sushi Mori. We had the chef's choice sashimi. The ahi was good, but the remainder of the sashimi was only average. The roll (can't remember the name) was nothing to write home about. Of course, the sushi was better than average grocery store sushi, but not by much. This is certainly not a destination sushi restaurant, but if you're in the area and have to have sushi the price was fair and quality acceptable. On a positive note, the wait staff were friendly!

Awesome lunch special and everything was delicious. The crunch shrimp roll and chicken teriyaki were particularly yummy. Good service too! Definitely recommend!

Had sushi lunch special. good food and good price. excellent service and friendly people. good salmon.

We enjoyed this restaurant. We did not eat sushi but everyone in my party enjoyed their meal. This was our favorite meal while we were in LaJolla and will go back the next time we are in town. It is very convenient if you are staying in LaJolla Shores and the prices are very reasonable compared to others in the area.

We got a takeout Chefs choice, Alaska roll and salmon roll. It was over $80 for 3 people. the salmon pieces were very small size. The chefs choice was only 12 pieces. For 3 people it was not enough food. We were disappointed. maybe we just ordered the wrong things but we have had lots lots lots better, and much cheaper

We had a lovely dinner here; the restaurant doesn't look like much but the food was outstanding quality, and incredibly tasty. The only thing we didn't like were the green mussels - mussels cooked in hoisin and topped with more seafood. The mussels were overcooked, dry and stringy, and even apart from that didn't do anything for the dish. But the sashimi and maki were just excellent. We plan to go again.

We came in for Happy Hour and received wonderful sushi and service. The place is clean and sushi chefs are artists with their presentation. Not only did we get Happy Hour pricing, but the chefs gave us complimentary crab cakes that were excellent. Will eat here whenever we are in town.

We went on the back of other reviews. The place is OK, no great ambience and the girl who served us was good although she did forget the miso soup and salad part of our order! To be honest with just the 2 of us wee didn't get to experience a lot of what was on offer and we tried the dragon roll which had eel on top, but this was not really my taste. The crab mixture I thought tested a bit odd and I kept wondering if it was alright. Don't let my review put you off. Others appeared to be tucking in and what they were eating looked good.

We were able to grab a table outdoor along the sidewalk. Our server was friendly and efficient. We ordered two lunch boxes (less than $15 each). Each box comes with miso soup, salad, rice and the entrée. The food quality has exceeded my expectation. Highly recommended to those looking for sushi in this area.

Stopped in for dinner during their happy hour. That was a great find, the pricing was excellent. Was able to sit outside. They have different types of rolls as well, so that was very enjoyable. Service was great, and the food was excellent.

We âfoundâ this restaurant while âlostâ on our drive thru the area. How lucky we were! FiancĂ© ordered their bento box. Everything was great. Generous serving. Didnât go away hungry. I ordered teriyaki chicken and a spicy tuna roll. Again, they were excellent. Highly recommend.

We visited Sushi Mori as a family for an early dinner and everyone had a great meal comprising of a variety of tempura, noodles, rice and sushi. The food was fresh and the service really good. If you have room at the end I would also recommend the macaron ice creams đđ

Food was really good. I was surprise on the very affordable prices and the really good quality of the food. I fully recommend this place

This was an excellent dinner outing for us! We had just finished kayaking the La Jolla Sea Caves, had a tired and hungry 6 year old in tow, and wanted some good food in a welcoming environment. This restaurant provided that, and so much more. The sushi was delicious and the service was exceptional! To make things even better, they brought our daughter a surprise - free mochi ice cream! This place is absolutely worth a stop!

Sushi Mori has the best lunch around. We sat outside, ordered a 10 dollar lunch and feasted on some of the best sushi and Japanese food we have ever had! The lunch started with miso soup followed by sushi rolls, which were enormous with incredibly fresh ingredients, then rice, chicken (or whatever you ordered) and salad. My still growing 6'2" son could not finish everything. You will not be disappointed. I would go every day if I could.

After waiting ten minutes to get water, the order was finally taken. Meanwhile the sushi prep guy waited idly by. After sushi quality, the most important thing about a sushi restaurant is getting the order in so that it can get prepared in a timely manner, and definitely before the people that arrived after you. 2 strikes and I hadn't even tasted anything yet. 30 minutes inside the entrees arrived. Then it got good...only bc of the food quality. Udon sushi, bento and bowl. Everything was fresh and delicious. Plus 1. The meals salvaged an acceptable rating. Service remained subpar. No water refill, no check up to see if everything was ok, slow to deliver the bill. Four tables with two servers should have been well taken care of.

We stopped here for lunch. They had bento boxes for reasonable prices, but overall the food was average. A good value for a quick eat.

Nice clean and great service . Busy too so make sure come early and or do reservation , the Manu is offering more verity then we need the quality fine high class

I'm hardly an expert, but I found the sushi here delicious and interesting. I particularly liked the Dragon Roll. Fun and tasty.

The four of us decided to go for Sushi near our stay in La Jolla. The reviews were decent so we gave it a try. Seating at 6:30 on Monday was readily available both inside &out. Happy hour prices was in play for a number of plates such as various rolls and teriyaki (for non fish eaters) and noodle dish. Pink roll, combo sashimi 8 pieces (salmon, tuna, shrimp, halibut)with a choice of 1 of six rolls came with miso soup and salad. All very fresh, the rice very tender. Nice portions. Good service.

We LOVE this place! The servers are friendly, the sushi chefs are fun, the location is 2 blocks from the beach, there is plenty of street parking, and the happy hour prices are great. I menu has something for the kid that doesn't like anything and the sushi lover who wants all different types of options to go with their Sapporo. There is one TV for anyone who needs visual entertainment, but the place is neither loud nor a library. They also have plenty of patio seating. Fun, casual, good sushi, and great prices.

We all thoroughly enjoyed the fresh sushi, appetizers and entrees. Service was good and the prices were very reasonable.

Had the their combo sushi platter, with Thai hot special. It wasn't really hot, but it had a great flavor. You could tell the fish was very fresh. Also had the unagi roll, man it was like butter. Fantastic place. Make sure you sit outside. Great views.

It is also quite a value...it's hard to find rolls for lunch for $5. It was more than enough for my lunch and was awesome!! I had the spicy crunchy tuna roll.

Took the kiddies here for lunch after kayaking and found the food excellent, especially for the price. Healthy fare and a kind staff. Give them a try.... the food is good. I especially like the Lunch Obento.

The sushi selections here are fantastic and decently priced. Four of us ate for under $75 and no one left the table with an empty stomach. The Bento Box was HUGE and we were even given two complimentary creations specially made for us to taste. Overall a great experience and I would definately recommend this place if you are visiting LaJolla.

We ordered a ton of food at this restaurant, but we didn't spend a fortune. I loved the teriyaki, and my boyfriend loved loved loved the sashimi.

We had a wonderful meal at Sushi Mori - Waitress was so personable and went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. I would recommend this place.

Ate here twice in the evening with our two teenagers on recent trip to California. Didn't have the sushi (although what we saw on other tables looked pretty good) but the main courses were good value, very filling and very tasty. Good and attentive service, and some complimentary crab cakes (although I found them a little too sweet for my tastes) made us feel very welcome. They had a 20% promotion between 4 and 8pm when we were there. Thought it deserved to be busier than it was - don't think people were giving it a chance against the more 'mainstream' restaurants nearby. Would go again if we're every in La Jolla again.
Great fusion of traditional & new ideas
We are from Vancouver and love sushi and sashimi. Everything at Sushi Mori was delicious and beautifully presented. We especially loved some of their innovative partially cooked items. Their fresh wasabi, chopped up like salsa, was new for us, and the perfect accompaniment to the tempura items.
