Solid Sushi Spot, Quality Service From Yoel Behind the Counter

By ABesq |

On my visit to Brooklyn yesterday, I stopped by this venue to take out sushi for my kids, as well as my parents whom I was visiting. I've been to at least two other Sushi Tokyo branches (Coney Island and Central Avenue), and this one is definitely the most aesthetically pleasing, and they appear to have alcohol options (though I did not confirm, as I was there to take my order to go). As with the other branches, the menu here (which appears to be the same as the others) includes relatively good and broad options for a kosher sushi venue. I attempted to use a Restaurant.com coupon from my parents, but a manager behind the counter gave us a bit of a hard time about honoring it. He said we needed a validation code from restaurants.com, which simply did not exist; the website simply confirms that you have validated the certificate - they do not provide a new "validation code". Yoel behind the counter was very patient and courteous as we went online to confirm all this, and ultimately honored the coupon. Thank you, Yoel! I would give last night's experience 3 stars due to the amount of time it took to get the coupon honored after the manager originally took issue with our coupon. However, Yoel's patience, pleasant demeanor, and ultimate willingness to honor the coupon for us had me increase my rating to 3.5, and ultimately round up to 4.

Sushi is great; delivery took forever

The sushi is really great. I ordered through grub hub and after 2 phone calls the delivery took a little over 2 hours!! I would recommend pickup.

Best Sushi in the Neighborhood

By Yisroel S |

Great sushi joint with plenty of options for all. They have amazing french fries as a bonus and their sushi is top notch. I always go here when I am in the neighborhood.

Amazing kosher sushi

One of the best kosher sushi joints. It's always fresh and they have great variety. I give it a 4 because it's pretty pricey.

Kosher sushi

They have two locations, the service in Coney Island avenue is not the best... But in kings highway excellent sushi and very good service

Delicious food

By AMaik |

I really enjoyed their sushi, it's fresh, delicious, and prepared in a timely fashion. The sit down area in the store isn't very big, but it can handle maybe 3 or 4 tables worth of people... Another nice thing, it's open until very late

Worst place to get sushi

By Sam S |

Fish didn't taste fresh at all. The service was horrible. Couldn't get our order right kept bringing the wrong rolls to us. When we tried to tell the staff about the mistakes it took them a very long time to fix it won't be coming back here And this place is way overpriced, not worth it.

The WORST

By biz_Travelor7 |

Asked for 2 tuna and Avocado rolls. He asked " what kind of tuna? Spicy or regular?" Regular, i said. Waited 10 minutes and got avocado rolls Hey- I said Tuna and Avocado. You even asked me what kind of Tuna. No body else was in the store. "We'll fix it. " It then comes out only Tuna. Hey- I told you Tuna and Avocado. 'We misunderstood". THREE TIMES ! Then they give me tuna rolls that look like they were run over by a subway that had a tiny sliver of avocado on top. I went to complain and the manager didnt have the simple courtesy to put the phone down. No 'I'm sorry". Nothing NEVER NEVER GO TO THIS DUMP. If a restaurant doesn't care what they throw at you, especially a sushi joint - don't go.

Best Sushi

Sushi Tokyo has to be the best Kosher Sushi in brooklyn NY. I love how easy it is to qualify for free delivery and their spicy tuna avocado is #1.

Food poisoning from Sushi Tokyo

By Phillipa333 |

I went to Sushi Tokyo on Coney Island Avenue on Sunday evening with my family. I had the leo roll (made with raw tuna fish). I woke up at 6am Monday morning with an extremely painful stomach ache. It could have only been caused by the sushi, as I'd not eaten anything else on Sunday that could have been bad. I began vomiting violently without being able to stop. I was in absolute agony. I was sweating profusely. I couldn't drink anything and was dehydrating rapidly. My husband had to rush me to the emergency room where I had to be given an IV drip. It was confirmed that I had severe food poisoning. My experience has taught me a lesson to always keep in mind for future: Eating raw fish is always a risky proposition. You have no idea how fresh the fish is, and you cannot taste that it is bad. When I called the manager to tell him my experience (Michael Parnavsky), he said he was sorry and could give me a store credit for my meal. He said the policy is to only give refunds within the day of eating the meal. I guess I should have thought to call while I was suffering in the emergency room. I certainly will not be going back there ever again, and their customer service is poor.

sushi is okay, they deliver for free and are open late

By Cee T |

sushi is not the best that i have had, but they are open late and deliver for free. Sushi is fresh. It's basic and if you are not very into sushi it will serve the purpose. They have a few tables for sit down but it is more of a take out operation.

An HOUR wait for food!

By Sokha H |

Really nice restaurant, but waited over an half for food is ridiculous. They only had 1 sushi chef for the entire restaurant. Very busy place, please hire another chef. Not worth the wait! We wouldn't come back.

My most favorite sushi store! Not so much seating, but great place to hangout, and meet up with friends! Yum yum sushi, and service is great too!

Innovative and delicious

By aynyc |

This is no ordinary sushi. Sushi Tokyo specializes in unique flavor combinations, especially in vegetables and fruits and tempura rolls. And as odd as the combintions at first seem, so far everything we've tried has been delicious. We especally enjoy that they have plenty of non-raw options (both vegetarian and cooked fish) since we are not crazy about raw sushi. A sushi traditionalist would probably turn his nose up, but for veryone else it is a great treat to explore flavors beyond the standard avocado or california roll. Some of our faves: sunshine roll, healthy roll, lawrence roll (no spicy salmon), AAC roll. TIP: for deliveries, if you order online rather than by phone you get a discount. Also, plan ahead... during peak times delivery may take awhile. Service in store is much quicker on average.

Average sushi. Very clean. But if you want a real thing, go to an authentic Japanese restaurant.

By TangoNY |

Honestly, if you really want some real sushi go to an authentic Japanese restaurant unless you have a religious reason and you are bound by Kosher restriction.

Good Sushi, variety open late.

Top sushi place in the country!

By rachel c |

This is my favorite sushi spot in New York! They have over a hundred different orders of sushi and are very accommodating with diet orders, brown rice, less rice, special requests, etc. Everything is fresh, made on the spot. Great service, excellent sushi, the best!

Sushi Tokyo in Brooklyn. 100% Kosher

By ofanoa |

I had a great dinner at Sushi Tokyo! A lovely, creative, friendly, Kosher, Japanese restaurant in Brooklyn. I loved the place, great vibe, great service. They serve a full gamut of Japanese cuisine, from sushi, to rolls, a great ramen, a whole grilled fish, steak, you name it. 1 finished with cocktails and dessert. All 100% kosher, totally loved it.

Great kosher sushi

By DMKAdvisor |

The menu is extensive and a bit confusing but once you figure it out its OK. It's a small restaurant with only three tables. The customer service is not great, as they've recently replaced the cashier/order taker with a rude one. The food is a bit expensive but it's worth the money once in a while. They make great kosher sushi. They offer free delivery for orders over $65 (as October 2014) but it takes a long time and occasionally make mistakes on the order. Overall a pleasant experience.

Best sushi ever

By Deeellell |

Only good place to have yum sushi. The chef is actually good, making the best sushi ever! Service is fabulous, decor and seating makes it a pleasant experience.

Great Service and Delicious Food

By MoeTrav |

The service, presentation, and taste at Sushi Tokyo were superb. The menu is beautifully presented with photos on iPads, the servers know what they're talking about, and the sushi was delicious.
