Nice sushi. Wanted more

By C0dys_Dad |

The sushi was good. I had a crunchy roll. A rainbow roll and a couple of nigiri. Very tasty. The service was a little awkward. No one really paying attention. Maybe my spot was between shifts. The price was right with rolls at 50% off. I was happy with that but wish the atmosphere was a little more inspired

Fantastic service & sushi at a reasonable price!

By Stephen John |

I've been here previously with friends and family but came recently by myself for lunch. I love the people here and the food is great. Great atmosphere and is usually very busy here at night. The 40%/50% discounted sushi is more of a marketing ploy because its usually chopped and mixed up spicy tuna/salmon or less expensive fish. My favorite is the yellowtail and jalapeno sashimi.

Great Value for Sushi

By travelnstone |

Sushi Kushi in Pacific Beach offers a great value in fresh sushi with a fun environment. it is a local favorite -- particularly with the college crowd and can be loud, but a lot of fun. Sushi chefs are friendly and talented.

Average Sushi

By alexisbw612 |

It was average sushi, nothing that deserves an outstanding review. I would go elsewhere. The service was prompt and so was the delivery of food.

Lovely sushi 🍣 place

By Hasanain Ali A |

Great sushi meals, reasonable prices , a very friendly staff and quick service. My favourite dish was the tempura roll.

Fresh, delicious sushi!

By John F |

A friend and I had lunch at Sushi Kuchi and love it! The sushi was fresh and beautiful, and the tiger roll was one of the best rolls I have ever had! I highly recommend this place!

3.4 stars

By Joseph M |

Good sushi, slow service , had to wait 10 minutes to order , and then waited another 10 minutes to get the check.

Great Food, Great Price!

By RayneLa |

Wow. Food was Great and would go back for the quality of food. A big added boost is the price was great also. Many of their specialty rolls are 50% off and truly 50% off of same rolls at different places. They sang Happy Birthday to someone with flashing strobe lights, very, very loud music, with squid hats and big glasses. The strobe lights and VERY loud music was a little too much. Would DEFINITELY go back for BOTH the quality of food and price.

Great Sushi & Happy Hout

By Fieldtravels |

Great service, great sushi, very casual atmosphere and the most reasonably priced happy hour! We also had the garlic edamame which was amazing!!

No raw fish?

By yadayadareviews |

Looked at menu. Only 3 kinds of real raw fish - tuna, salmon, and albacore (tuna). Very few rolls with offered of these. Almost all other rolls had "spicy tuna" (which is just minced tuna w/ a tiny bit of cream cheese & sriracha) imitation crab (krab) or shrimp (either tempura or steamed). We looked over the whole menu, and then simply left.

Went three times in three days

By David L |

We ended up eating sushi rolls here for lunch three days in a row. Great rolls, great nigiri, great service. Loved it every time!

Delicious and well plated

By Krizzin42 |

Tasty sushi with a great presentation. Their plating is top notch, and the food tastes great. Especially enjoyed the "Hot Night" roll which was made with spicy tuna, and the Mango Roll. The Moochi (spelling?) for dessert was great also.

Fresh, generous and great service!

By Alyona |

This sushi spot really impressed me. The fish was super fresh, and the size of each sushi piece was bigger than expected—definitely great value for the price. Everything was beautifully prepared and satisfying. On top of that, our server Julia was wonderful—friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. Overall, a perfect mix of quality food and excellent service. I’ll definitely be back! 🍣✨

Not good!

By NORFoodjunkie2 |

We didnt like the sushi at all at this place, especially the sushi with tuna tasted bad. It was not like tuna filet, more like tuna mash. The service was ok, though.

cant go wrong with Teka Maki

By jimtastic-life |

This is one of 3 locations for Sushi Kuchi. We came in for lunch they had a 1/2 off special going on so we ordered 7 rolls for the 3 of us. It was a spicy tuna day. the run down: -Teka Maki Tuna Roll -Salmon Roll -Tuna Roll -Spicy Scallop Roll -Smoked Salmon Skin Hand Roll -Sensual Pleasure - Spicy Scallops, cucumber, imitation crab topped with spicy tuna and spicy mayo -Ninja Roll - Spicy tuna doubled layer deep fried with hot sauce -White Boy Roll - Spicy Tuna, cucumber, Escolar smelt eggs ans magic sauce the place is in a strip mall by the stadium and has a nice patio area too we ate inside. Its pretty good but not the best sushi I have had, noting was bad, but nothing stood out either. basiclly its a good no frills place for a quick bit of sushi on a budge

pretty good

By Nathan B |

Pretty good sushi.. pretty fresh. I would have to say it is pretty good and has a nice happy hour. I would recommend.

Greasy delish!

By TheFunFoodie |

Such a guilty pleasure. It’s hard to find the actual sushi on most their rolls under the mounds of crab (pretty greasy).... but dang it tastes good at that moment. It’s (for me) the McDonalds of sushi restaurants... but I do love a large fry sometimes.

Loved Loved Loved

By Sarah B |

My husband has been traveling to Carlsbad regularly over the last year for business and found this little gem in a strip mall not far from his usual hotel. We went as a family recently and I can say it was worth every bite. Initially, I was intrigued by the name. The food was perfect! We had great saki, and split 4 or 5 different rolls between us (try the Star Wars roll, it's a MUST). Nice kids menu and noodle bowls for those who don't care for sushi. Sterile atmosphere, but friendly and attentive staff. Best parts: both my kids tried sushi for the first time and loved it, and the sushi chefs who shouted "SEE YOU TOMORROW!" whenever a guest finished and departed the restaurant. Will definitely go back on our next trip to Carlsbad.

Raw fish at its best

By Paul J |

" A " rating and very clean which is crucial for a sushi restaurant. Excellent variety of sushi plates to satisfy all tastes and appetites. The portions are pretty large and the prices are totally decent for the quality and the service. They have lots of very good items on a 50 % discounted menu. All the sushi plates we took .... too many , were excellent and tasted very fresh.

Flyer said half off - I know why now

By Ms.Daydream |

I received a flyer in the mail and it had a 50% off menu - later on noticing that I have always seen that advertised at both locations that I am aware of it made me wonder - How can it be half off all the time ? and if its all the time why dont they just make the proper price adjustment - anyway I dont have an MBA so I decided to check it out - and the conclusion I came to was that the presentation was really really good !! it made me hungry and then as I was looking at the menu its all like fake crab and cream cheese and then something - which is fine but it was like everything had that in it - and I wanted sushi so I was not impressed - I would say if you want something deep fried and not too picky then its great because the prices are really good and the staff is friendly - there is sushi that is not half off and it looked good but I had no appetite for it after eating the half off sushi - friendly staff and desert looked decent .

love the rolls

By Meagan I |

We loved their rolls and most of them were on their 50% off side of the menu! The regular priced rolls were amazing as well.

Sushi, Fun and Strobe lights?

By funtroopers4 |

We were staying at the Ocean Park Inn and my daughter found this place on another site. We all entered and were greeted "Irrasshaimase!" We got to sit at the sushi bar and ordered special sushi rolls, miso soup, appetizers, sake, and desserts. Service and the food was great. All of a sudden the lights go off, and we think the power failed. Next you see the Sushi chefs with crazy wigs on, strobe lights, dub step Japanese Birthday song blaring and signing at the birthday table. It was awesome! This place is set up for larger groups with their table placements. My kids want to return for their birthday here! Oh, when the bill arrived I was WFH? It was SO affordable! They have 50% Sushi too!

WOW!

By Sonja K |

Best and most creative shushi ever seen and eaten. Very good and we´ve been here two evenings in row as we were so happy with this food

the place for sushi @ PB

By Salvo |

a very large selection of sushi at a very reasonable price. I had a very good "california style" sushi

Great sushi, great prices!!

By hroseatl |

Came for late lunch after the beach. Amazing sushi rolls and tons of choices!! They have a whole menu of 50% off rolls. Great staff and service.

Hard to find, but worth it

By unclerandytia |

It took us over an hour to find a sushi place open on Christmas Day, but Sushi Kuchi was open and rewarded for it. It was tucked away, even though it's address is Mission Blvd. it faces kind of a pedestrian alley off the side street. You have to wait outside, thankfully the San Diego weather makes that livable. It's loud, there is no atmosphere, you order at your table, but onto an order sheet. Even with all of those negatives, it gets a high rating because of the food. In the end that's what should matter anyway. We had 4 different rolls, the Star Wars was our favorite. We had ramen, could have skipped that. We're happy to have found this gem.

Great Selection

By Andrew G |

The big draw here is the giant “50% off” signs for their signature rolls. There are plenty to choose from and my wife and I enjoyed them. My kids got a chicken bowl and a beef bowl. Neither had a lot of flavor and they preferred the California roll and the fried calamari. Not the best sushi restaurant but definitely worth another visit. The staff was friendly and the chefs all yell “see you tomorrow” as the patrons leave the restaurant. They have beer and saki but we didn’t try it this time around.

Step in for the sushi deal but order Korean

By Wanderlust1954 |

Okay 50% off sushi attracted me - but what made me come back over and over again was the Korean bulgogi and Soon Tofu (spicy tofu soup with dumplings). That combo makes a perfect lunch for 2. The lunch vibe is nice, clientele mainly beach-types on the way to/from the beach. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Perfect for the quick-fix korean.

good and cheap

By antozas |

This place is not far from the beach. They have a good choice of different sushi and sashimi. Food is fresh and good. Very cheap

Great spot Great Price

By travelingchik22 |

Visiting San Diego and wanted sushi but didn't want to go all the way downtown, and came across this amazing sushi spot!! On one side of the menu is all 50% off sushi and 99 cent sale bombs all day everyday! We sat at the sushi bar, sushi menu had so many options and ordering was easy. Had our sushi in no time! Sushi was so fresh and so good!!! Really wish we had a sushi place back at home like this where quality and quantity equal out!! If ever back in SD we will definitely come here again

Wow! This is really good sushi !

By elizacass |

One of the best sushi places in PB! I should know , I've tried almost all of them! Great prices all the time , 50:/: off rolls, and lots to choose from ! Great quality, and big portions. The staff was very friendly and the service was great , and they were busy when I was in . Will go back again, and again! They do a silly birthday song, complete with a little show if you like to be sung to! Great menu, lots of Japanese dishes as well. Try the spicy edemame , it's not on the menu, just ask!

Food is awesome!!!!

By A T |

We went to visit San Diego for vacation and found this restaurant by accident, food is awesome & inexpensive!!! Must visit if you’re in the area!

New mission valley location subpar

By Travis S |

Recently visited the new sushi kuchi location in mission valley that replaced another sushi place, so basically an ownership change. Thought I was getting a deal with the "half off" specials but was shocked by the price for 2 rolls and an entree for what was supposed to be a discount. Made order for pickup and was quoted 20 minutes. Arrived about 25 minutes later and proceeded to wait at least an additional 15 minutes. Props to a very friendly staff, but did not seem concerned that I was standing in the doorway for what felt like forever. The sushi wasn't bad, but I honestly hoped for better. Bright spot was the teriyaki chicken entree. The peppers and rice made for a very flavorful dish. Honestly, I'll probably give this place another shot to see if my experience improves, but in the mean time would not recommend.

Great food, better service

By jjtbody |

First of all let me just say that my experience at most sushi restaurants is a poor one when it comes to service. The exceptional quality of service was on par with the great food. And I'm willing to pay a higher price for the quality of sushi that we had. Overall experience was great and when we're back down in San Diego we will be visiting again.

No...

By siljemariewl |

This place looks popular, but stay away! Some of the worst sushi I have ever had. I understand why it was cheap. The tuna looked like it had already been chewed... The pieces we tried were either way too spicy or tasteless. Noisy place.

Great sushi great price

By Risa S |

We stopped here our first night in San Diego and the sushi was amazing! We ordered off the 50% off menu and were not disappointed. I would highly recommend all sushi lovers take a stop here, you won’t regret it!

Good sushi close to the beach (Right of Poinsetta)

By Avi G |

We were looking for a sushi place to replace our regular go to when at Carmel Valley. We came here because of the Yelp reviews and were pleasantly surprised. The sushi was rolled well, the staff were friendly and the food was good. I think it hit that right mark for good price vs. good cuts of fish. We will be back to give these guys another go. (Maybe we had better luck with the supply of sushi than the other recent reviews).

Yummy

By Victoria H |

First visit, sat at the sushi bar. We will be here again! All of our food was great, fast service, too.

Excellent but you have to be hungry!!!

By Ruggero57 |

Not too big and a long line to have a seat. Sushi plates great and enormous. Great prices with a lot of orders discounted. People very kind. Very affordable. A little noisy but it worth

Must stop!

By Holie Y |

We were craving sushi on our way back home after a long day at the beach and googled this sushi restaurant. They have a menu with 50% sushi which we were a little hesitant with but 6 rolls later we were very happy. They had a steady flow of people coming in and out to eat but seems like many other people enjoyed the food as much as we did. Service was friendly and attentive. We will definitely come back again each time we're in San Diego!

Fun youthful birthday dinner UCSD Student

By kayakPhil |

We visit our grandson at UCSD and stay a couple nights San Diego La Jolla area . Beach time and movie and nice dinner s part trip. It was his 20 th bday and he wanted Sushi and we didn't have luck in La Jolla last trip. I suggested Pacific Beach surf culture and youth. Wife made reservations and staff nice to allow as party 5 and they require party 6. The last four blocks Pacific Beach party city w probably 50 bars one named Maverick s after big wave spot n California. Lots SD State Student s ( UCSD kids more serious ha ha) lots techno music and great chefs with funny hats behind counter. Good sushi and beer . Large endame. Great creative rolls . For birthday, they dimmed lights and came to table wigs and tambourine and played 80 s disco new wave music. Great experience. If you go and less than 6 you'll Qneed to wait. They accomadated us as we drove 200 miles and approved. We'll go again. Bill was five and beers saki $85. Highly recommend with teens or young heart. Fun crew. Take walk 1/2 block to Crystal Pier to watch surfers or rent Lime Scooter on prominade.

Best Sushi For The Price

By Melsurf165 |

My fiance and I eat hereabout once a week. We love the staff and the food is always delicious. You cant beat the price either.

Great Value

By Chris F |

Great sushi. A significant portion of the menu is 50% off which means you can order as many rolls as you want without having to worry about the check. The quality of the sushi was very good. Not the best I've ever had but I'll definitely be back for more! When I went on a Thursday night it was very crowded with a loud but fun atmosphere. I recommend making a reservation if you plan on going during a busy time.

Great sushi, good prices

By valerieakak |

Excellent sushi! It was kind of loud, but we sat at the bar and were able to talk. Also, sitting at the bar meant we got out rolls right away. The rolls were outstanding! Very fresh! Service was great, as I said since we were at the bar, the chef handed the rolls to us right as he finished them. Since it was my birthday month, I got a free tempura ice cream roll. They flash the lights, put on wigs, stick a hat on me, and sing songs. Hilarious! Price was very decent, especially since the rolls were so good.

Good Sushi at a Reasonable Price

By Rexflash |

We go here about once a month as we think it's the best place in Pacific Beach and at the best price. You can find fresher sushi elsewhere, but not anywhere nearby and at a higher price. We always get a couple things off the 50% off menu and then something from the regular menu. We find the service good and recommend it to satisfy you sushi craving.

Worth A Try If In The Area

By sceneisle |

Located at the intersection of Mission Blvd. and Garnet in the Community of Pacific Beach. Dined on an assortment of sushi rolls. The fish was fresh and the service was excellent. When you walk in the door, every employee gives you a verbal greeting at the same time (pretty neat!). 20% discount from opening until 7:00 p.m. plus other daily specials. I wouldn't drive a long way to eat here but it's definitely worth a try the next time you're in Pacific Beach.

Great Spot

By KatrinkaSD |

Dropped in for a quick bite and were really impressed. The waitress was a little standoffish at first, but the food and its presentation were excellent. Who knew? Will definitely come back. Perfect for an unwinding lunch after shopping at IKEA or Lowes.

Good sushi and service

By Tyson R |

Went on a Thursday night still pretty crowded. But the whole area seems to be a pretty trendy party scene. Be prepared for a wait. Not really a family stop. While I would return, I would just as likely try something else.

Nice sushi place

By gzau |

Sushi Kuchi is right in Pacific beach in a good location. It is a bit hard to find but you should look for it. It seems like half their menu are 50% off when I was there so they are very reasonable. The sushi is pretty good and they have all the variety of rolls. They also serve Korean food like Bulgogi, Tofu Chigae etc. Good place for a reasonable sushi if you are in PB.

unassuming frontage belies excellent food

By hinemoa-auckland |

we happened upon this local sushi place with its rather low key frontage. We were very pleasantly surprised by the superb quality of the food. We sampled the gyoza first, lovely and silky. I had the 3 x 5 sashimi which was elegantly presented and the pieces of fish tasty and melt in the mouth. My hubby had the sushi sashimi mix which he reported was great. Friendly and attentive service.

Great authentic ramen

By Jon M |

Great authentic ramen. Also the potstickers, gyoza was amazing. Not super busy. Very fresh. Good service.

Worst hosts ever

By SandraEmilia |

They say that they close at 11. It was 10:45pm and I went there to order to take it and ate in my hotel. The girl that was there was not only unpolite, as she ssaid that they were already closed, when I asked about the time she simply ignored me.

SAKE SAKE SUSHI SUSHI

By Tinetina77 |

When we dinned the restaurant had a half off menu. The sushi is really good and I love miso soup and I thought the miso tasted great. They also have sake bombs for cheap. Shot of sake and small glass of beer. Not bad at all. This area is right in pacific beach great place great attraction. Service is a little slow but it is okay we were taking our time and drinking. Fair in price for sushi and food came out quick. If someone has a birthday they sing to you guys but in their own unique way.
