I like sushi a lot and I usually don't go to sushi restaurant when I visit a city on a trip. This one however was ok for the price. Quality was better than average and selection was good.

Decent place to have sushi & spicy edamame in the downtown area. I’ve been to places that are much better, but they are much more expensive- this was very inexpensive. The city has construction in their building area, so the sidewalk is covered and it is easy to miss the restaurant or assume its closed. Service was very good - especially the elderly Japanese gentleman (perhaps the owner?)

I always stop here if I'm downtown. I enjoy the nabeyaki udon and shrimp tempura. It's quiet and small...has a mom & pop feel, which I appreciate. Kind of forget that I'm in downtown Dallas when I walk into the place.

Walked in (after looking at Trip Advisor), looking for a good sushi feed, and we got it. If you want fine dining that this isn’t for you, if you want really good food with lots of characters then here is good. Took a selection, and the old family run owners bring it to you. It is good and filling, but perfect if you want to avoid the fat and sugar foods available every 100 yards. Not expensive either, so for a good quality, inexpensive and down to earth decor then give it a go. The tuna is really good. Mark

So I am kinda torn about this place. I am always hesitant to try a new sushi places. The food was really good but the service was horrible. Kinda like when you go on a blind date and it turn out he is really hot but not that smart. Its like on one hand - "score! this is awesome" but do I have to put up with everything else to get to the awesome?

Great lunch with traditional Japanese food, more so than most. Edamame to start with were great, cooked well and nicely salted. Served my favourite Japanese beer of Asahi Black and great service.

Salmon, tuna, unagi and tender roll good. Yellowtail and scallop weak. Tempura fine. Overall unremarkable fish. Seems like regulars gravitate to fried rice and lunch specials. I would not return nor recommend.

My colleague and I were trying to find something light-ish to eat in Dallas so we decided to go for a sushi restaurant. When we entered the place, we got warmly welcomed by the staff, got seated at the bar and got the menus. Not like what I'm used to see in France, there is not a lot of choice but once your dishes arrive, wow ! The taste is amazing and the quantity is there (we are in Texas). And again, we had a very good time discussing with the lovely staff. A place to go to, definitely.

After two weeks of the usual deep fried food in the States, we were desperately seeking a fresh, healthy alternative. We stumbled across Sushiya on the way back to our hotel - what a great find! Its a very homely restaurant, and transports one to the backstreets of Tokyo. Service was prompt and friendly... the food made to order. Highly recommend the sashimi - tuna was amazing - and the cold unfiltered sake.

We always return to Sushiya because of their reasonable prices, great food and service. It is the best mix of all three in Dallas.

This was a cozy, unpretentious local spot with fresh, reasonably priced sushi, welcoming staff and friendly service!

This is the best!! So fresh!! You cannot lose going here!! Try it...it's worth the trip! Sushi, fried rice, salad...yum!!

Great food, service, atmosphere! Highly highly recommend if you’re in Dallas looking for a great dinner.

I usually write about places I go to when traveling, not in my hometown of Dallas. But Sushiya is a really good restaurant that doesn't get near the attention it deserves. We used to live around the corner from the small place on Elm Street, and we came in enough times that we got to know the couple that own the place. We moved to a different neighborhood in town and haven't gone as much. But we went back the night before last, and they still remembered us. "We never see you anymore!" she said sweetly. They have a full bar, so we started with a couple of drinks and then ordered the sumo tower, which was fantastic. Then we got a small bowl of chicken fried rice. It is not small. But it is delicious. We got their spicy tuna and salmon rolls along with the Alaskan roll and a shrimp tempura and crabmeat roll. All of them were outstanding. I love coming to this place. It is worth coming to just to meet the owners who are unfailingly nice. If you're in town on business, in the area for lunch or just a Dallasite like me in the neighborhood, you won't be disappointed.

Loved the sushi. So-so atmosphere but very fresh fish. Family owned and not a chain. Loved the spider, dragon and rainbow rolls.

Sushi was the highlight of this dinner, but our two rice dishes were great too. I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and service.

Attentive service, lovely food, great prices... Just a great little restaurant. Also includes a visible sushi bar, drinks bar and TVs for latest sport.

Pretty much like sushi from a grocery store, but not a good grocery store, and much more expensive........

Great variety of fresh fish! Not all of my favorite rolls were on the menu, but what we were served was good.

Called at 8:34, guy said "we're not taking orders past 8:30". Wha? Why answer the phone if you're not taking orders? Straight up lazy. Moving on to the next sushi place.

Sushiya is located in downtown Dallas, just blocks away from major attractions. I got a Bento Box. It was $12 and came with chicken katsu, salad, California roll, and rice. If you like Japanese food, you MUST TRY Sushiya!!!

Place was awesome. A little low key walking in the door but every roll was amazing! We will definitely go back! Sushi tower was the bomb, don’t remember the exact name though

Stumbled upon Sushiya in search of a good lunch spot and was pleasantly surprised. Their lunch specials are well portioned and the food came out fast. Would definitely return.

Has dinner there twice over a 4 day trip in March, its a lovely little restaurant with very friendly service and quality food. Prices are also very reasonable and definitely value for the money spend. All in all a definite recommend if you are ever in the area.

From the moment we walked in everyone was so welcoming, and by everyone I mean the sushi chef, the hostess, our waitress the bartender ALL said hello! Order spicy salmon with avocado, edamame, seaweed salad, and two special rolls. Salmon avocado is my go to at every sushi place I go, basically what I use as a bench mark. This place is easily a contention for the best sushi I've had. It is totally unassuming from the outside, but I would easily go out of my way to visit again! P.S. I'm from NYC, so I have access to really good sushi.

Staying downtown and looking for somewhere quick to eat near the hotel, I found this place via Google maps. Good sushi places are hard to find outside the west coast, but I went on the strength of good ratings. I wasn't disappointed - the sushi was very fresh and very good (although I thought the rice was not the best I had had with sushi). The place was almost empty, being close to closing time. Decor is rather utilitarian, but clean. But the service was attentive and prompt. In addition to the sushi, I had some tempura, which was less impressive - but still better than most. Prices were reasonable - so I would recommend this if you are looking for good sushi downtown. I will certainly be back next time I am in Dallas.

clean and fresh sushi. not a whole lot of flavor and very slow service. Will try again, still optimistic

This is especially great for those of us that live downtown. Simple, convenient and tasty! Fairly slow during the week so no wait.

Not the most elegant décor downtown but excellent service, great prices and really good food - who could ask for more!

Everything was so good. The ginger salad dressing is THE BEST! All my expectations were met Xoxoxxoxoxooxxoixoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxxoox

Hi We were staying at crowne plaza and whilst walking around came to this hidden gem.its a simple place neatly done up with a sushi bar in the centre n a bar too.we ordered diff kinds of sushi n a house salad n miso soup n chicken fried rice.we loved the chicken fried service was just delicious n hit the right spot.the drinks from the bar were chilled to perfection.its not a place for late lunch as they close at 2 pm.nice n friendly staff n I shall come back again. If u are staying around the area do visit it but don't specially run here to eat as I have eaten better

Like another reviewer wrote, it does have a mom & pop feel to this place. The exterior looks dated and the interior is dark and has a saloon feel but the owners are friendly and the food is not that bad. We really enjoyed the nabeyaki udon they served at this place. we were glad to have ordered it. The sushi quality is relatively fresh but the rolls were really soggy & gummy and the size of the roll was really small. I had spicy salmon and tuna rolls and really enjoyed the sauce. If it hadn't been for the texture and size of the rolls, I think I would have enjoyed the food better.

We stopped in while scooter touring the downtown. My colleague and I eat a lot of sushi in our travels and the reviews enticed us in through the door. Short version because I want to forget this meal. The rolls were loose and fell apart immediately, the rice was hard and the fish was mushy and the spicy sauce was strangely sour. The soft shell crab was awful and maybe not real. The staff was okay but many dishes were smashed tonight. The Miso soup and tea were fine. Cannot recommend at all.

We had a dragon roll, Alaska roll, gyoza, seaweed salad, squid salad and the fried cheesecake. Everything tasted great. Food came out quickly. The service was fast and friendly. Will definitely be back

Smack in the middle of Downtown Dallas, it has become a go-to place for me to visit for good Japanese fare. Their menu consists of Contemporary favorites like Sushi prepared right in front of you in the sushi bar, Tempura and Cutlet bowls and other Asian food. They also offer classic Japanese dishes like Soba sets and Agedashi Tofu. Their menu definitely has a wide variety with something for everyone. But what really makes the experience complete is their welcoming staff that makes you feel like you've known them for a long time already. From a quick lunch break from work to a relaxing Japanese Dinner out, they have something to offer for those who visits them.

Our dinner was very good. We didn’t order sushi but what we did order was delicious. We started out with their small salad that was huge. The white ginger dressing was excellent. My husband had the shrimp fried rice and the portion was more than enough for one person. I ordered the tempura udon soup. Delicious! Also, it was way more than I could eat. The tempura was crispy and delicate. Service was perfect. Great dinner.

I was staying at a nearby hotel and walked to this little place. Don't let It's unassuming exterior fool you. The interior is lovely. As others have stated, the service is great, although I was the only customer at 5:00 pm on a Thursday : ) The hamachi, toro and salmon sashimi were quite good and of good quality. The hot tea was excellent and the miso soup was also good. I would eat here again. Of note, my tab was $51 for the above, so it's not sushi on a budget, but you get what you pay for. Later, three older Japanese men came in the restaurant to dine and they seemed to be having a good time and eating heartily.

This is our go-to, favorite sushi bar in Dallas. Anthony is friendly, brilliant, and professional and he always makes great recommendations! Terry the super sushi chef is a tower of talent making sushi. Consistently fantastic!!!

I was a little nervous about trying this place since I'm so picky about my sushi, but I ended up very happy with my choice. As you might be able to tell from the picture I got eel rolls and salmon nigiri, and enjoyed both immensely. The salmon was cut thin enough (a common but off-putting mistake) and the eel rolls were fresh and soft. With a soft drink my whole ticket was $26 and some change, which isn't a cheap meal but it's perfectly acceptable for sushi. I'd go again.

Delicious Japanese food not far from our hotel. Hubby & I were in Dallas on vacation & I was getting tired of all steaks, burgers, etc. So I suggested maybe we could try this restaurant which we walked by when we were looking for a CVS. When you're in a city like Dallas sometimes having other types of cuisines can tell you how good the food scene really is. I was glad we went to Sushiya. The food was so good. And came to our table quickly. We actually ordered too much food. So we took it back to our hotel. We had assorted tempura, gyoza, rainbow roll, avocado roll, dynamite roll & chicken katsu. Prices were good. The decor of the place was pretty yet comfortable. Service was friendly & well-timed. If I ever come back to Dallas I would definitely eat here again.

I had worked late in the office and missed the free dinner at the local hotel. So I wandered out and found this nearby. At first I thought I had made a HUGE mistake as the only other people in the place were some coworkers that also had wandered out. As it turned out, the sushi was very very good.

On a whole, the sushi here stacks up with some of the better sushi joints I've been to in Florida and California. The staff was friendly and attentive without being overwhelming. The sushi

Found this by accident while walking around downtown Dallas. The food was fresh and tasted great. The service was great and everyone was very friendly. The sushi is made right in front of you.

Very nice older couple were happy to serve us on a Monday night. Very cute and genuinely interested in making us happy with their food. Bar area and sushi bar seating besides many tables and a few booths. The sushi chef was fast and had good fish selection. If you wish to get some sushi in downtown I would recommend this place.

My Husband and I wanted something chilled on a Monday night nearby and settled on Sushiya. It wasn't very busy at 5.50pm so we were shown a booth straight away. We both ordered the teriyaki salmon Bento box and it was really delicious. The waitress was very attentive - asking us if we needed more drinks and making sure everything was OK. This place isn't 'fancy' but it's got a really lovely, chilled atmosphere with good food. Really worth a visit.

Very good lunch stop. The Salmon and Tuna Sashimis were very fresh and good portions (5 pieces per order). The other sushi pieces were just as fresh and good. Clean restaurant and friendly service. Be forewarned, none of the Bento Lunch Box options include sashimi. Very convenient location across the street from the Westin.

The service was extremely slow --we came in with a large group, but I believe reservations had been made. Fortunately, we had great conversation while we waited. But the food was wonderful. It almost made me think I was back in Japan!
Great food and service!
After an all day conference at the Kay Bailey's, me and a colleague walked to Sushiya on a Thursday night. We were seated promptly, the place was slowly filling up after 30 minutes. We ordered the caterpillar roll, very yummy. We also got a bento box and some tempura. The rice was amazing, plain and fried :) Like I said, great food and service, the place was clean and everyone was warm and friendly.
