We had a very special dinner with our close friends here. We wanted to surprise them with a pre-arranged bottle of Champagne and the owner/chef made a perfect suggestion and his staff handled it perfectly. The Foie gras was the best my friend has ever had. We loved the Kobe beef carpaccio. The crab cake special was mostly crab and perfectly seasoned. My wife recommends the beef tenderloin anise with wasabi. It was perfectly cooked and the combination of flavor a made it special.

Suze is a small, local restaurant with a delicious but limited menu. Because of the small size, tables are close together and the noise level is high if the restaurant is full. Go mid week. We had three different fish dishes and they were all beautifully prepared, especially the salmon which was very moist and served rare. Crab cake appetizers were a special and were full of fresh crab delicately seasoned with almost no filler. Wine list had some reasonable prices and several options by the glass. A chocolate "gob" dessert was richly decadent, a dark chocolate gob like an undercooked brownie with vanilla ice cream. Service was excellent, helpful and attentive. We look forward to another visit.

Enjoyed great food and service once again! Party of 8 enjoyed a tremendous meal during the holiday. Service was exceptional with our waiter making a special salad, not on the menu, for one of my guests. All our entrees were fantastic, on time with right spacing between the starter. Anything we asked for was provided with no hesitation. We brought in our own wine and reasonable corkage fee made it easy to handle. Only opportunity with the overall experience might be in the desserts. Bit more variety would be a benefit, however, after great food, this was nothing we missed. A gem and always delivers on our visit!

We had not been to Suze for quite some time simply because it is a bit of a drive from where we live but last week we decided we needed to go back, we had always like it but after our amazing dinner, we determined we would go back on a more regular basis. Our salad appetizers were very good, the salmon and barramundi entrees were amazing, and the chocolate "gob" and sticky toffee pudding brought a perfect ending to our meal. We talked about how good our dinner was for the next 3-4 days. Service was very good and we love the new location and modern/contemporary design.

We went for restaurant week and were not impressed. The veal pasta tasted like hamburger helper. NO alcohol available, only beer/wine. Incredibly noisy...my wife got mad when I had to keep asking her to speak up so I could hear her. Lots of senior citizens in this place, it must be an "Old Dallas" favorite. The walnut viniagrette salad was the only good thing about this place. We would not recommend it.

Another excellent meal @ Suze on New Years Eve! One of our favorite places in Dallas. Can’t wait to go back again.

A small, relatively quiet, neighborhood restaurant. Of course, not every neighborhood is Preston Hollow. Great food, understated elegance in a strip mall location. Pleasant steady service, only objection was a little slower when all the neighborhood regulars came in. Not for flash, but otherwise highly recommended!

first time here and definitely not our last. Our group had a special menu. Everything that was ordered (lamb chops, steak, halibut, pasta) was delicious. the sides of truffle fries were yum! I would never have found this place on our own, just a great place tucked away at the end of a strip plaza. Our service was impeccable!

Located in a corner of a shopping center anchored by an Albertsons this small spot offers food that far exceeds its outward appearance. Spot itself is pleasant but not ostentatious, service friendly and the food variety should meet any taste. Preparation is imaginative and taste is excellent. If in the Love field area or anywhere along this section of Northwest Highway its worth a try.

Gilbert is one of the very best in Dallas. Fresh, local food at a reasonable price. Suze is a hidden jewel.

Nothing fancy here, their focus is on great tasting dishes. Come during the week and there is no waiting, weekends call to make a reservation. We've tried almost all their selections and we can honestly say you can't make a mistake on anything you order. The service is as good as the food.

We have been to Suze 3 or 4 times. Service is always friendly and attentive but not overbearing. Menu is short, but everything I have had so far has been delicious. We live nearby and will be making this a regular stop.

The food was good - we had the Lamb (8/10) and Veal Bolognese (5/10 - not my favorite). Loved the truffle fries (9/10). Amazing wine selection. The service was decent. Suggest reservations.

We visited Suze for the first time joined by another couple who had been there previously. Our overall impressions were quite favorable, but there were enough small flaws to knock the overall rating to "Very Good+". We reserved the "glass room" which is a fairly bizarre setup, but once you understand the reason why it exists, makes perfect sense. The glass blocks out a lot of ambient noise, enabling you to actually have a conversation around the table. That's a good thing. Service was impeccable but for a flaw of not immediately replacing used silverware in preparation for the next course. We loved our server, very professional and nice. The only other service flaw was the server not visiting the table to offer a second cup of coffee. The food is quite tasty, and comes out of the kitchen very hot, in warmed dishes -- and beautiful presentations. We loved the fried green tomatoes (4) which makes it perfect to split as a starter for 2 or 4 persons. Nice crispy outer fried layer in a tasty tomato sauce. My spouse and I split a delightful wedge salad, sufficient for each of us to enjoy, with a not-so-heavy bleu cheese creamy dressing, and fabulous stips of crispy bacon. Just great. I ordered the daily special fish -- striped bass on a risotto with chopped baby asparagus. Frankly, I didn't love it, chiefly because I felt it was overly salty and the portion size needed to be 25% larger. For the price paid, this wasn't a good value. My spouse had trout and enjoyed it thoroughly. The table split one order of gelato -- 3 small scoops -- which was delicious. My espresso solo was one of the best I've had in Dallas. Not bitter at all -- tasty and smooth. All told, the cost including tax, tip, a couple of drinks and all of the aforementioned food worked out to be about $65 per person. I look forward to returning to try the pasta next time.

Had a very nice dinner with my wife and sons. Suze has a small menu but the salads and entrees we had were wonderful. Suze has a very nice wine menu as well. If you are in the area you should visit Suze.

The food was delicious and our server was quite exceptional ~ very personable and attentive. Would definitely go back. We enjoyed the creativity of the chef and I believe the menu changes frequently.

We made reservations on open table and were running a couple minutes late. We called the restaurant to let them know we would be 15 minutes late. We arrived (10 minutes late) and waited about 60 minutes for our table and watched several parties come in and get seated before us. The hostess could have offered us a drink or something while we waited. After about half an hour, we approached her and asked if we could order a bottle of wine. While we were sipping our wine, we noticed a couple of cockroaches scurrying around near the front door... I know we're in Dallas but... Once we got seated, the food and service were very good. However, since we did not get seating until about 915PM, the staff seemed a bit annoyed that we were eating late. Banging chairs around, turning up the lights, etc...

We were in town for the salsa congress (weekend of classes/dancing) and had a tip to try this place out. All the steaks were amazing, and we were able to bring our own wine (liquor store, next door). Service also awesome, and great desserts to close out a fine meal. Give this spot a try

This neighborhood restaurant, hidden at the back of a small shopping center, is a hidden gem. The food is wonderful and the service fabulous.

great menu, great service, great wine list

Suze is an absolute gem. The unassuming facade in a strip center next to an Albertson's gives way inside to a warm and friendly bistro with a quiet jazz feel. Most of the patrons on any given night are return customers. It seems like about a third of everyone there knows each other, and the attentive staff knows everyone. The food is wonderful. The foie gras starter is the best I've had anywhere, and I've had a lot. The fried green tomatoes and Suze salad are also standouts. My favorite main course is the salmon. The trout and pepper steak are also always good. Save room for dessert. If you like chocolate, the chocolate gob is to die for. The wine list is not huge but quite sufficient with several good California Pinots that go well with the fish dishes I lean towards. As you might guess, I am one of the regulars, and I can't wait to eat there again.

We stopped in without a reservation, but were able to get a table. It had been a couple of years since we had been here. Our waitress, tara, was excellent. She was great at recommending menu items. We had wine and beer. Good wine selection. Lots of people brought their own wine--I think the corkage fee is $25. We started with fried green tomatoes. they were delicious. The Suze salad is always delicious. It hasn't changed! We ordered the pappardale porcini pasta--this is the best bolognese ever!! We also had the special of rack of lamb. Prepared perfectly served with potatoes and sautéed spinach. Dessert was toffee pudding--delish too! We enjoyed our dinner so much-service was awesome and we love the ambiance of Suze. Great, small, quaint neighborhood place.

Re-visited one of our favorites last night in their new location. They've made a seamless transition to the new spot. food was as good as always and service up to par! The new decor is simple and effective. The one miss from our likes of Size is the removal of the BYOB. Was always a pleasure to enjoy our own wine with the exceptional food. It won't stop us from coming again in the near future.

My seventh time at Suze and they never disappoint. The meal was spectacular and the service same. Wine list is very strong and, as they used to be BYOB, they do not gouge you on the wine up charge so buying a bottle is reasonable. My go to place for a special meal occasion as I can count on them to deliver!

Suze has been around a long time in an unprepossessing strip center. It is not large, but very comfortable. I have eaten there twice in the past 2 months after a long break and enjoyed it very much both times. Servers are well trained, low key end solicitous. The tables, topped with crisp white tablecloths, lend an elegant and intimate feel. There is a nice wine list end a decent, if limited, beer selection--i had the Moretti. The menu is not large, but has a nice mix of appetizers, fresh salads end entrees. I have enjoyed the fried green tomatoes in particular, but I am a bigger fan of the really fresh salads, my favorites being the Suze salad and the Caesar salad. The dressings taste very fresh. For main courses, the pastas are excellent along with the fish. Last time, there was an excellent barramundi special, with lusciously moist fish over barley. The pasta sauces are rich and flavorful. There are a couple beef dishes, but pricey end mostly tenderloin--not my favorite cut. Desserts are also very tasty. We shared the gob. Delicious food, elegant (but not fussy) atmosphere and a great waitstaff--I enjoyed my meals. Not cheap, but nicely done with a local feel.

If you have a flight from Love Field and want to catch an upscale dinner, this is a good place to go. Decked out romantically, the food is very good and there is a great wine list and bar. You can't see the place from the street. It's tucked in a shopping center next to an Albertson's supermarket. On my visit, Maryland soft shell crab was on special and delicious. The truffle oil and cheese fries were very good. We added marinara sauce as a dip. Fried green tomatoes, a Southern tradition, were also quite good. The restaurant is only open for dinner, and is closed Sunday. Check the website for hours.

This restaurant has apparently changed management several times. We ate there 12/24 and were stunned by the grossly over priced wines; one expects a mark up but I estim 4-5 mark up ?. The food was good, limited menu ( appetizers and desserts )but the grossly over priced wines equaled a real turn off. On top of that, restaurant was empty on arrival ,yet seated up next to another table couple on top of us. Waiter , young and oblivious to the shortcomings. Before considering, go over the wine list and pricing first. We would not return.

Over the weekend you will need a reservation - call at least a week in advance. There remains a BYOB option which is very popular w/ its clientele. The cork fee is $25/bottle, which is high but no one complains. The service is professional and personable, the food is very good. The only issue is the noise level. This is a LOUD place - the acoustics are not good. If someone in your party is hard of hearing he/she may not enjoy the experience.

wonderful food in a very small venue. located in shopping center (self-parking so no valet taking off with your prized maserati). excellent, delicately prepared dishes, all worthy of multiple return trips. caution: there is only ONE bathroom and often a long wait behind 2 or 3 other diners. not a problem for the locals but tough on those of us from the other side of the airport.

Small bistro style neighborhood gem in an anonymous shopping area that puts out great food at reasonable prices with attentive service. $25 dollar corkage if you want to bring your own wine, nice by the glass list and if you want "just a touch more" you can buy a half glass.

We are vegetarians so are restricted in what we can order. However, they have one pasta dish which we get with marinara (instead of the normal sauce that they offer) and it is really very delicious.

Our food was wonderful, but we did not at all like the new decor. They have changed the former warm, cozy atmosphere for one that is cold and sterile, clinical-like with bare grey walls, and white contemporary chairs and banquette. In addition to that, the lighting was way too bright; surely they have a dimmer switch that could adjust it. The former romantic atmosphere is GONE. We were given menus right away, but after 15 minutes of waiting we had to ask for a waiter to be sent to our table. We didn't see much of him all evening; he would completely disappear for long periods of time. Couldn't figure out why because there were several servers so they didn't appear to be short-handed. We loved all of our dishes, so will return in spite of the other drawbacks. We had the Buratta Lovash, fried green tomatoes, kale salad, filet mignon (so tender and perfectly cooked to order), and the veal Bolognese with Pappardella. We love being able to take our wine in spite of the steep $25 corkage fee.

We live blocks from here and frequent every restaurant in the area. This is one of the best. The menu is small with selections for about everyone. The service by Tara was great. We were seated immediately without a reservation. I had the trout and the preparation was delicious. My fiancé had mushroom ravioli and the portion was perfect. We will be back. We ordered the Chocolate Gob for desert and it was really good.

We have going going on and off to this restaurant since the first month it opened many years ago. Some nights its full and fun some nights like Saturday night it was dead. The menu needs a revamp badly. The chef is very talented and when on hits all of the marks. Its summer in Dallas though and steak 2 ways and venison should not be on the menu. The atmosphere is cozy and borders on romantic when its dark out. Lets hope for better as our neighbor needs Suze to be better.

Small portions, not that great and high priced. Kind of fancy for a strip mall, and just not what I expected.

First time to the new Suze.......they did a nice job with the new location; very pleasant and one of the few places that wasn't so dang loud that you could not carry on a conversation. The server (Perry) did a great job. The orkra special appetizer was certainly plentiful, hot, and fresh however the dressing (Madras curry buttermilk ranch dressing) "dip" lacked any hint of curry. The Porcini Pappardella Pasta was short on meat sauce unlike previous times my wife enjoyed that entrée. The special seared dbl bone-in Heritage pork chop would have been great had it not been swimming in jus....the broth simply dissolved the polenta, wiped out the flavor of any apple chutney and soaked away the otherwise enjoyment of any distinct flavor of the "char" on the chop. On the positive side was an outstanding Sticky Toffee Pudding. Wish the overall meal could have been better as all the meals had been in the past. Price was right at $140 for the two of us but considering all the restaurant choices available there really is no reason to go back.

It’s a shame that restauranteurs “dumb down” their operations to handle the rush of Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and New Year’s Eve. Their customers on these special nights experience something less than the vaunted food and service they read about on sites such as this. Instead, they get fewer choices, lesser service and a sub-standard experience. Such was our Valentine’s dinner at Suze in Dallas last night. Reservations made far in advance carried no warning that Suze would not be Suze that night. However, a subsequent telephone call warned, “Chef has decided that there will be a limited menu for Valentine’s Day.” My problem is that by the time the call came it was too late to secure a prime-time reservation elsewhere. There was no fabled foie gras or mussels normally on the menu but the carpaccio and white pizza were available. The problem was that we yearned for the foie gras. Strike One. Not a single one of the “regular” entrees was available. Instead, diners chose from halibut, lobster or short ribs. The halibut and ribs were fine to be sure but the rack of lamb and almond crusted trout upon which our Valentine hearts were set could not be had. Strike Two. For dessert, sticky toffee pudding? No; it’s not available. Strike Three. The shame of all this is that what would be the “normal” Suze experience could not be had. Therefore, my impression of this highly regarded place is that it is not, for me, highly regarded. On this Valentine’s Day, Suze committed a classic error: over-promise and under-deliver. Service from our server was fine. The runners were, on the other hand, curt and even brusque while they rushed our 8:15 meal. There was no need for that as our table would not be needed for a later seating. Proprietor Gilbert Garza never appeared to ask how things were or to invite us to return on another occasion when the “real” Suze could be experienced. Had the modest room been jammed with patrons, or had the entire menu been available one could have possibly rationalized the “less-than-expected” experience due an abnormal work load. Such was not the case, however. There was no crush in the front of the house, or from where I sat, in the back of the house either. Simply put, we were simply put off. Please, Mr. Garza and all other upscale restauranteurs, hear my plea. Don’t do it. Don’t succumb to greed and under-deliver on these big nights. Instead, over-deliver and create a loyal customer who will return and return again. Limit your covers rather than limit your offerings. Your receipts may not grow on the special evening but they surely will on all the other regular nights where your reputation and fortune will ultimately be made or lost.

My wife and I have been going to Suze for many years and the food is always high quality. Chef owner Gilbert Garza is a wonderful person and creative chef. The menu is straight forward and the best of everything. The beef tenderloin (star anise) is the best, as is the salmon and the trout. Equally enjoyable is the staff. They treat everyone like family and if you come more than once, you will likely get hugs and a question or two about how you and your family are doing. Great restaurant for couples, business or a romantic evening. Small, quiet and quaint. You will not regret Suze!

I've been a regular at Suze since it opened at its "old" location in Preston Hollow Village. And I've been a critic of the menu that often doesn't change that much. Therefore, I was curious how Suze would survive the transition from a small foot-print w/ no bar to a much larger space w/ full bar etc. I'm happy to report Suze has managed the transition quite well. I've been to Suze since its opening several times. All my visits have been excellent. The décor is lovely and the service is polished and professional and personable. The food is very good. I think it will be at this site for a long time. BRAVO!

This was our first visit to Suze .... we will be back. It is a cute, small restaurant in a strip mall in the Preston Hollow area. You can always go grocery shopping afterward if you finish dinner before Albertson's closes. The food was great, we had a cheese plate with fruit and almonds, parpadelle pasta, and beef tenderloin. The service was perfect. The owner Gilbert monitors all of the tables and makes sure everything is going smoothly. He is very personable, and very genuine. I liked him very much. Suze is also BYOB. We brought a great pinot noir with us, most of the tables around us brought their own wine. The corkage fee is high ... $25. Don't miss the sticky toffee desert .... I am not sure if it is something everyone would like, but I LOVED it. It is sort of a cross between bread pudding and the awesome soggy honey bran muffins they have at Mimi's Cafe, but with a butterscotch/toffee flavor. Next time, I will ask for a scoop of vanilla ice cream to go with it.

It is sad to see what used to be our favorite restaurant change so much. We used to go to Suze, when it was BYOB, at least 3 times per month ... pretty much almost every Friday. We always requested and sat at the same table, and we always had the same server. I think we ate there at least 50 times. Interestingly, we met the owner and chef Gilbert during all of those visits just twice. He wouldn’t recognize us if we were standing right in front of him. Since Suze reopened in the new location, and opened a full bar, thus eliminating the BYOB option, we have only been back twice. One of our favorite things to get on the old menu was their fantastic cheese plate. But the last time we visited, that had been taken off the menu. I guess when you get rid of the BYOB crowd, there is much less demand for cheese plates. The rest of the menu seems pretty much unchanged, other than whatever the nightly special is. Maybe the pastas are a little different. Maybe a few more changes would be a good idea. The argument that the loyal old crowd wants the same things may not be valid, my impression is that the crowd has changed. The BYOB people were the foundation of the business, I remember seeing the majority of patrons arrive with their own personal wine bottle carriers. That isn’t happening any more. On one of our last visits, I won’t go into specifics, but my entree was inedible. I took one bite and left the entire thing, and our server just picked it up and didn’t even bother to ask why I had not eaten any of it. I didn’t want to bring it up myself or ask for something else, I just wanted to leave. Despite these issues which have affected our interest in dining at Suze, I recently went online to opentable to make a reservation and was surprised to see that they no longer use opentable as a reservation service. So I called the restaurant to make a reservation a week in advance, and got an answering machine. I left a message with my call back number, and nobody ever called me back. It’s a shame, but I imagine they are not doing very well if my recent experiences are representative of how things are handled these days. But I wish them the best. We have a lot of memories there.

I am not a local, however, this place knows all it's patrons by name, and even has been known to drive a few home after a few stellar bottles of wine that appears on their menu. It's a tiny place so do try to make a reservation. I hardly know where to begin with the courses but as appetizers we started with their flatbread that has just a touch of baking soda so is more cracker like than dough. Wonderfully balanced with two types of cheeses and basil. Not to be missed is the mushroom ravioli that screams of truffle oil(in a good way) and delicate mushrooms with a fab reduction sauce that was so yummy and rich I wanted to like the bowl. Don't worry I didn't, but moved on to the main course. Here is the line up at our table and there was not one loser. Soft shell crab flashed fried served with a delicate sauce, the amazing rack of lamb, a pasta with a spicy red sauce and shrimp that was perfection, a filet that was good but maybe a little on the salty side, and the special of the night, grilled halibut. Between the excellent fairly priced wine menu, service, and perfectly prepared courses, Chef Garza get my vote for one of the best dining experiences I have had in the Dallas area.

We have been to this restaurant twice this month because the first visit was so amazing. I have been in the past but was really blown away by the food recently. We went with a couple who likes to bring their own wine which was lots of fun because they let you do that here.I started with a great salad followed with salmon and my husband had scallops.we felt like this was the best food we have had in Dallas in so long.we returned a few weeks later and had another fabulous meal. They get it right here and don't take you to the cleaners.we will be back

Team style service, all incredibly friendly, service oriented and knowledgable! Juan was ur server and was a perfect 10. The feature Blackened Redfish was out of this world incredible! A neighborhood favorite to the Preston hollow A- list and worth every penny!

There are trendier, fancier decorated restaurants in Dallas, but none seem to have the quality of food that Suze has. We had dinner recently in a large party and everyone found their food delicious. The young chef-owner who owns this restaurant keeps his eye on the kitchen and we have been here many times, never disappointed. (Also have never seen the cockroaches the previous writer mentioned) From the brussels sprouts salad, to the truffle french fries, to the almond crusted Idaho Rainbow Trout, the porcini papardelle pasta, the beef tenderloin--all were excellent. Considering the quality of the dinner, the value is very good. Point of information-they only serve wine or champagne and you can bring your own wine, but there a substantial corkage fee.

We love this upscale neighborhood place, especially now that they moved next door to larger accommodations and smartly finished it out. The service is always spot on, very professional but friendly. The food is always inventive but not over the top. It's nice they now have a full bar which I took advantage of by starting with a Negroni. We had the pan seared snapper and a double bone in pork chop, both prepared to perfection and delicious. Our sides included roasted cauliflower and a side of roasted Brussels. Their desserts are too good to pass up so we indulged in their chocolate cake with home made caramel ice cream and a delicious sticky bread pudding toffee dessert. This wonderful restaurant is definitely in our rotation for favorite spots to dine.
Slice o' heaven
Always a wonderful experience. Menu changes constantly thanks to the really tallented chefs, one of Il Sole fame. We are constantly impressed, especially for a restaurant that's a bit tucked away; Suze is a must see. Fried Green Tomatoes are out of this world (if they're still there) and so is "the bottom line" i.e. the fillet. Two of the waiters, Keith and Maggie, are especially enjoyable. Haven't heard of anyone disappointed yet.
