This is definitely a good choice for noodles, quick and friendly service excellent noodles and tea. No need to order drinks, they refill the tea and this is ok Sen maicha

The place is affordable and their cooking is delicious. We had the suzu ramen and the vegetarian ramen and I have to say it was great! The vegetarian ramen can be shared as it has A LOT, I mean it.

The wait was almost two hours at the popular ramen shop on the second floor, so tried this one out. Delicious food, had the Nabeyaki Udon and it was sooooo good! Totally recommend this spot for ramen or udon!

This is a cute little spot within the Japantown shopping complex. We enjoy the food and the atmosphere. We make it a goal to return when we travel to San Francisco.

My friends and I eat at Suzu when we're in J-Town. Very busy during lunch and dinner hours, so arrive early or late if you can. The Ramen noodles are the dishes to order and we like the Pork Shoulder and Fried Chicken, with Soy broth. Service is prompt and courteous and the kitchen turns out hot bowls of noodles, so tables turnover every half-hour, or so. There's a "sign-up" list at the front door and you can wander around the mall while you wait; upstairs, there's Kinokuniya Bookstore.

We went to Suzu Noodle House today for lunch and it was great! All the ramen places around had really long waits (40+ mins) but we only waited about 10 minutes which was for a table of 6. I liked the decor. The food was absolutely delicious, really hit the spot. I had the tempura udon which was a good decision, I also tried the curry ramen and katsu curry which were yum too. Would definitely recommend.

Staying in Japantown, there are plenty of options in the Japan Center, but I'd passed Suzu earlier in the day and it was full - always a good sign. When I went later on, the staff were great and the food was delicious - the chicken katsu curry would probably have been enough by itself, so I ordered a small don as a side. Plus you get miso soup and salad regardless - could do with making that clearer to the uninitiated. Still, that just adds to the value - $17 for all that plus a drink. Appetising for the wallet as well as the taste buds.

I love ramen and so when I visited San Francisco I was determined to find good ramen! This place didn't disappoint! They're tonkatsu is delicious and the broth was soo yummy! We also got the agadashi tofu which isn't the best I've had. I would just try this place for their ramen! We got there at 11:45 (they open at 11:30) and since the place was so small it was already half full. By the time we left at 12:15 there was already a line of people waiting.

My hubby and I came here for lunch while visiting Japantown in San Francisco for the first time. Suzu Noodle House is a bustling place to eat!! So we new it had to be a good place to enjoy ramen soup on a cool day in June. We weren't disappointed with the food. My hubby enjoyed the chicken and vegetable ramen noodle soup, which was delicious. The portion size of this dish is huge, so come hungry or share your meal with another person. We look forward to coming back and enjoying other dishes. The service was so-so. I think because it was a busy day it was difficult for wait staff to be a bit more on top of their game. The restaurant was clean. Decent ambiance. Nice location.

I was hoping to have a really good ramen before heading back to my hotel after a gorgeous day in the sun when I stopped in. When I had passed by earlier in the day, there were people waiting outside for a table, so I assumed that was a good sign. Either that or it was the only noodle place in the area, which I doubt was the case. My feet were killing from all the up and down action of the hills that make up San Francisco so when it was time to eat, I was in no mood to be disappointed. At the advice of two guys loafing around outside the Kinokuniya Building, I decided to forgo one of the other ramen places nearby for Suzu. With limited opportunities to eat certain things, I really wish I had gone elsewhere. All I had was the miso ramen, as I wanted to have something else a little later. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing? I'm sad to say that my ramen wasn't so great. The noodles were way too rubbery and chewy. There should definitely be some spring to them but I felt like I had a mouthful of rubber bands. The broth was OK, but the creaminess of the miso broth should always be accompanied by bean sprouts, which it was not. The boiled egg was not runny, which I did not mind and the pork was also too chewy. There wasn't enough fat in the meat so it was kind of dry and that was a bit of a let-down. Service was on par with the food. I noticed a mixed crowd of Japanese and nons, but don't be fooled, it was nothing special. Surely there's better nearby.

Went to Japantown for some shopping, and all the displays of plastic food in the restaurant windows did us in--we got hungry! Changed our plans and decided to eat there; pretty much randomly chose Suzu. The restaurant (on the lower level) had a sign-up sheet out front but the wait was under 5 minutes. Decided not to pig out and instead got a combination, which is where you can get a small rice bowl for $3 or $5 depending on the type when you order any noodle dish. We got the pork belly ramen (SO GOOD) and the tempura rice bowl, and it was fine for two. Besides, if you feel you need a sweet to top it off you can wander down to the corner grocery and go nuts on Japanese treats.

The place was packed and we had to wait, but it was worth it, the ramen and udon noodles were home made and really, really, good.

On the ground floor of Japan Center at Post and Fillmore. As other reviewers have noted, the mix of clientele should tell the casual diner that Suzu is authentic and good value, soups prepared promptly. Prices are very reasonable with enough menu options to satisfy most tastes. Our server was efficient and friendly. Recommend: Browse Japan Center shops after.

Amazing ramen house in San Francisco. Located in the heart of Japan Town, this restaurant offers fantastic and authentic Japanese noodles and food.

Love this place for lunch when I'm out and about. Good flavor, portion size satisfies without bringing on a nap, and the service is genuine.

Suzu is a very poor experience for gluten free eaters. I am a local and had been going for years and having soba noodles substituted for ramen noodles. Recently, Suzu owners made a decision to not allow any substitutions, even for food allergies. They treated me and my friends, who have been going there for years, very poorly and with little regard, and we will not be going back. If you don't have an allergy than this place is pretty good, but I can't support a restaurant that has no regard for loyal customers and good customer service.

Really good food, though it was my first time eating ramen. Nice service and not too expensive considered the size of portion given

Delicious and fresh ramen . The broths were excellent and seasoned well. Very authentic Japanese food.

Such a great lunch! We were visiting San Francisco and found ourselves at Suzu and we were not disappointed. Now that we're back home, in Ohio, I'm having noodle fantasies! So delicious!

Really great broth. We both had the spicy ramen and it was fantastic. Highly recommend. The power went out when we arrived and they stayed open too!

A good place to enjoy a bowl of ramen in San Francisco Japantown. A good variety offering - I ordered the miso Katsu Chicken Ramen and my husband had the shoyu Pork Belly Ramen. I went on a Wednesday shortly after the place open noon and was able to walk in with no wait. But shortly afterwards the line started to build. I have passed by many times and noticed there's always a big crowd waiting for a table.

Really good Ramen and seaweed salad. You sign your name and number for table and then loiter, which is worth doing for the food. Works for veggies and vegans as well.

Delicious noodles! Lots of different types of broths- soy, curry, miso...super quick service! Might have to wait for a table because there aren't many but it's worth it!

Delicious twist on ramen, and Suzu is not afraid to break free from the tradition. For those seeking a serious classic ramen, you may be disappointed. Stick wth noodle dishes...it is a noodle house.

This place is located in Japantown. It is located in the mall right across the street from Nijiya Market. They noodles were all tasty (udon, soba, ramen). They have a deal where you can order a noodle dish then add a rice dish (tonkatsu, tempura, etc) for an additional $3.25 to $5.25. If you are really hungry, this is the way to go. The noodles dishes are very filling. Again, there is a variety. Choose your noodle, choose your broth (miso, shoyu, shio), then look at the descriptions for the filling. Most noodle dishes are from $9-11 dollars. They will ask if you want indoor or outdoor seating. We thought outdoor was outside, but they mean outside of the restaurant even though you are still indoors. Apparently this restaurant is under new ownership but since this was my first time there, I have no means of comparison.

My friends and I were craving for some Udon or noodles in a fresh evening in San Fran. Suzu is a small crowed place in Japan Center, where we tasted fantastic traditional Onabeyaki Udon, or simply Nabeyaki Udon. The broth made from fish and soy sauce was absolutely delicious, one of the best I ever tasted. I ordered the "Combination" menu of Udon plus a small size starter which in my case was the Unagui don - rice with sweet-salty ell on top. I advise you to do so if your hungry is above medium. The room and its decoration are both quite simple so don't expect a romantic, high end restaurant. That's not the idea of Suzu, but the food is delicious. Next time in San Francisco I'll come form more. Hope you enjoy!

Just a single tiny room in a Japanese business office building in the Japantown on Post Street. No sushi, just noodles. Scrumptious noodles.

In SF Japantown, somewhat stuffy inside but has outside seating. Menu had more choices for ramen than average but half aren't exactly authentic options. Had the suzu ramen which is miso ramen based but adding 2 pieces of gyoza (unfortunately fried) and 2 pieces of karaage chicken. Thick gyoza skin but the chicken was tasty. Fairly priced at $12.95.

What a bummer! This place used to be great. Its clear that Suzu Noodle House has had some changes. I don't know if its a new owner, management or chefm what ever it is...it's NOT working. Suzu used to be my family's "go to" place for Ramen in Japantown. On our most recent visit what we were served was mediocre at best. The bright fresh vibrant ingredients have been replaced with bland, boring, blah. Ever since I read David Cheng's inaugural issue of Lucky Peach magazine devoted entirely to the art of ramen I've been searching for the perfect bowl. Suzu was never the perfect bowl but ar least it was tasty. So bummed with the recent change! If anyone has a good recommendation for ramen in Japantown (or any where) please let me know.

We popped in for a quick lunch and Suzu delivered. The service was prompt and he food was good. We sampled the vegetarian ramen with soy sauce broth and the Nabeyaki Udon. The restaurant is tucked away in a mall at Webster and Fillmore in Japantown.

Recommend for a quick bit. This place has a great Ramen and noodle selection. The flavours are subtle and fresh. The tempura is also lightly battered and very tasty. You'll leave with an empty bowl!

Went there for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Ordered as an appetizer the Kakuni (braised pork belly), followed by Ebi Fry Curry with breaded fried shrimp. Both were more copious than I expected... But they were quite tasty. Surprisingly, the curry was not as hot as I anticipated. Staff was nice and the service fast.

I was craving for some ramen and I chanced upon Suzu Noodle House. Had to queue for a little bit. Both their portion and price are decent and reasonable. I love their Miso Ramen. A hidden gem in Japan town.

It looks like you are in Asia, since this little restaurant is in "Japantown" which is a busness and tourist mall in San Francisco. Great mall, easy parking, etc. It's a small place, a few tables inside and a couple outside (which is enclosed in the mall). Took my daughter there for lunch. We both had Ramen noodles, hers with curry and mine with pork. Do not confuse these dishes with the Ramen you buy at the store and add hot water to, not even close. Fresh noodles in an incredibly savory sauce / soup. We loved it. My pork was lean and very tasty. It got crowded quickly since it is so small, but the tables turn over pretty fast. The service was good, and the food was worth the wait since it is all made to order. We will definitely return.

I had the curry ramen and my sister the mabo ramen. Both were so amazingly flavorful. Good thing I don't live nearby or I would be there everyday! Also had katsu, very lightly battered. Good but didn't blow my mind. I could have done without the takoyaki though. Highly recommend the noodles!

My son wanted authentic Ramen noodles for lunch in Japantown. This restaurant fit the bill. We ordered Ramen Noodles and Thai Noodles. The Thai Noodles(Udon) came with tempura (Shrimp, Japanese vegetables) which was delicious. Since the tempura was expertly fried we decided to eat it separate and was not sure if it was to be eaten with the noodle broth. The portion sizes were large and the servers were efficient. The meals came with delicious complimentary hot green tea which I had 2 cups. There is a Japanese stand across the hall that had authentic Japanese desserts. We ate there after we finished. The prices were reasonable given the portion sizes but not cheap.

Quick service for a hot and tasty bowl of miso ramen with boneless fried chicken chunks. Soup was rich and creamy. Partner had the curry ramen with beef and that was yummy too....great warmup on a cold and foggy day.

With a great menu selection and reasonable prices, Suzu is a must for fans of authentic Japanese noodle cuisine. Over half the patrons are Asian -- always a good indicator of a restaurant's quality and authenticity. Several visits and sampling different menu selections never has failed to disappoint. Highly recommended for a delicious Japanese meal, especially for the budget-conscious traveler.

A great place to grab a pre- or post- movie bite. Ingredients fresh, airy tempura batter, and flavorful dishes. Wished had room for their green tea ice cream.

Had a quick ramen which was really good! We also enjoyed the barley tea, which they poured generously. Other diners had big bowls of soba, etc. that looked fresh, too!

This place is amazing! Order the miso meat ramen! On a cold fall day this is where you need to end up. The location is very small and the wait is a tad bit long however it is def worth it!

Just after you are seated your server brings yummy tea for you to enjoy as you look over the menu. I ordered the Curry Ramon with Miso broth and my husband had the Curry Chicken. We also ordered an Agedashi Tofu appetizer. The Agedashi was one of the best I have ever had! I wanted more! But, good thing the portion size was what it was, because when my Ramen came I needed room! That was the biggest bowl of food I think I have ever seen! And it was unbelievably good- and I'm not normally a ramen fan. My husband’s Curry Chicken was served in a smaller (but still big) bowl. He didn't talk much while he ate...and ate...and ate. When he stopped I joking asked if it was good. He replied "Um, YEAH!” I will definitely return to Suzu when I am in the area and would recommend it to anyone looking for a tasty inexpensive meal.

There seems to be a long line here for lunch period (11:30am-1pm), but the wait-staff/kitchen are very efficient and can get the line moving & you are in&out quickly. The ramen noodles are good; nice firm bite, variety of broths are all good. Small restaurant, tight quarters, tables close; if you are a tall/large-sized person, you may feel cramped when restaurant is packed. Overall, food quality is very good & tasty.

Good service + noodles… with keraage!!! - - - - - - - - Our daughter and I visited San Jose, CA, and the Bay area one mid-October weekend. We had a good time. After a day exploring San Francisco, Sausalito, and the Marin Headlands, we were driving around the peninsula and found ourselves near Japan Town. We thankfully found street parking about two blocks away then found Suzo Noodle House. It’s simple, with close tables and good food. We ordered miso ramen and edamame. After hearing our table neighbor order, we asked what keraage (ker-ah-gee) is and he shared that it’s Japanese fried chicken, so we ordered some of that, too. Our table neighbor is right… keraage is GOOD and belongs in ramen… nice! Thank you, Suzo noodle house, and our table neighbor, (who works at Yahoo with search analytics)! ----- -----

I've eaten in several of the restaurants in Japantown, San Francisco; and Suzu continuously stands out as one of the best. Their curry ramen is my go-to dish, the broth is thick, spicy and full of flavor - everything you'd want in an excellent ramen bowl. The restaurant itself is pretty small, you'll be nearly elbow to elbow with your neighbor, but service is prompt and consistent. The amount of food you get for your dollar is a good deal. (you'll never leave feeling hungry)

My family of five had a great lunch here, enjoying the braised pork belly, gyoza, ramen and katsu curry (both ebi and chicken). Lovely service, delicious food, three happy kids and a satisfied ramen craving :) If you are in the mood for tasty Japanese ramen and curry, would recommend Suzu.

Great lunch of kimchee ramen. Used to go religiously to sapporo ya upstairs, but it looks like they're OOB. Have to say that suzu is better. Long wait times, so come before you're hungry.

Located inside a mall in the Japan Town of San Francisco, this place had good Japanese food. The place is cozy, their prices are good and the food delicious. I recommend the Katsu Curry.

There was a short waiting line. We got seated in 15 minutes. Food was delicious. Perfect ramen, flavorful, not too salty. Authentic taste. Reasonable price too. Will come back again.

Overall, this Japanese noodle restaurant is similar the many ramen shops that seem to have popped up in the San Francisco Bay Area. That is, the noodle variety and quality is good. And although all the ramen places claim to be different, there are only so many different things that one can do with ramen, and after a while, they all seem about the same. I've been going to Suzu about eight times in the past two years, usually ordering the kimchee ramen, with the ramen put separately in a side dish. This last time, though, on February 19, 2016, the taller of the two waitresses refused to let me order the kimchee ramen with the kimchee with the kimchee left outside of the broth. When I told her that I've been ordering this dish for a couple of years now, with the kimchee left out. She then said that she had been a waitress there for five years, and that she never saw me before. I told her that I had never seen her before, either, which was true. I then asked her to ask the cook to prepare the dish the ay I wantd. She then talked to him, came back to me, and told me the answer was still no. I then said you must have a new cook, and she said that some cooks were new. Mind you, this isn't some high-end restaurant; it's just a nice little hole-in-the wall. Anyway, I must have gotten an older new cook from the Japanese countryside, because they can be bull-headed. Well, my title says it all. If you like decent ramen, and will take what's on the menu, with no accomodation for your tastes, Suzu is o.k., but then, there are so many other ramen places with cooks and waitresses that don't act like God.

Got taken to this small and quaint restaurant by a local. The food was superb and great value. Quite a limited menu but everything was fresh and very tasty. Would happily go again.

First thing to mention is the quality /price ratio. It is very high on all fronts: food service atmosphere. I had delicious meat-miso ramen, which I would gladly order again. My brother had vegetable tempura ramen and seafood salad. I had a Sapporo Beer. $36. Everything was faultless. Go and enjoy.

Let me start by saying this: COCKROACH.. THERE WAS A COCKROACH IN MY RAMEN. I was halfway through my bowl before I found it. WORST PART: IT WAS ONLY HALF OF THE COCKROACH She took it away and came back ten minutes later apologizing and offered to pay for our three ramen bowls while we were still to pay for our appetizers. We did, and we left. She had me leave my name and number and "was concerned for my health." I really wanted to like this place. I'm never eating ramen again. My follow up with the health department confirmed that they were paid a visit by SFDPH two days after my incident. There was evidence of recent cockroach spraying, but violations numerous enough to ensure they closed down for the night to correct them. Don't go here.

This is a cute place in the mall next to the Kabuki theaters. They serve you really large portion of noodles, pho style but unlike pho, they are little underseasoned. Good place to visit if you are missing your Ramen days...;-)

Very small noodle house in Japan Town. Got there around 7 and found about 20 people ahead of me. Waited only about 20 minutes. Had the spicy pork ramen. Was delicious with a perfect level if spiciness. Pork was tender and tasty. Service was friendly. Will be back.

But this place was surprisingly pretty good. I had something with fried vegetables and thick ramen noodles. The noodles were pretty good; vegetables were a bit greasy but definitely fresh oil being used so that's a plus. Clearly a popular spot in this area as it is quite small and stays packed. Reasonable price - $10 - $15 per person.

One of the best places for ramen! good and friendly service....local place not touristy at all. Highly recommended in Japan town area of San Francisco.

Were vacationing in San Francisco and my daughter who has studied abroad in Japan was craving ramen. We took an Uber to Japantown and found this restaurant inside a shopping center. Put our name on the waiting list outside and waited about 20 minutes for a table (we thought it must be good due to the crowd). We shared gyoza and veggie tempura and I had soba noodles whereas my husband and daughter had ramen. She said it tasted very authentic compared to what she ate in Japan! Prices are reasonable and service is fast! Would highly recommend!

I joined some friends in this tiny restaurant in the Kinokuniya Bldg. in Japantown and had no idea I was about to declare it the best place for ramen in town. To start, the noodles are homemade and the taste will cease anyone from settling for Pot-O-Noodles ever again. They serve a complimentary barley tea when you are seated. I was disappointed to see that the vegetarian ramen doesn't come with broth because the broths are pre-made with meat stock. However, without my nudging, the waitress was kind enough to get the cooks to make a vegetable broth with the vegetarian ramen order. I probably will mention this desire for vegetable broth again when ordering, but would politely state that I can do without broth if it is too much trouble. It was a really busy Saturday so I am quite astonished that this was even considered an option. It may be that they figured I'm a new customer, so make the customer happy to want to return. The vegetables were fresh, not overcooked and the ramen was al dente. My friends had the Tokyo ramen, the Japanese curry rice with chicken dish, the Japanese curry rice with prawns dish, assorted tempura, and agedashi tofu. All of it was "inhaled" with great enthusiasm. The lighting and atmosphere may not be much to speak about, but it is clean and the food is too good to notice what else is around you. This restaurant has a line out front at meal times, but you can get a table easily at non-peak times. I'd even bet that the restaurant does take out. I may have to go back to find out before the week is over.

Casual Japanese spot within the mall. My boyfriend and I were in a rush and didn’t have time to wait for the popular ramen place on the second level, so we came here instead. We were seated immediately on a Saturday for lunch at 1pm and we found that this place was homey. We had a Suzy ramen combination with the Karaage bowl and it was a good amount of food to feed us both. The broth was a tad watery and the chashu pieces were a bit hard, but overall, it was a solid spot. The team members who helped us were very nice and polite. Indoor seating as well as a couple of tables outside of the restaurant are available. Credit cards accepted. It’s a casual vibe.

Wonderful curry and ramen. Friendly but small restaurant. Just what we wanted after an intense Korean spa treatment nearby. Super yummy.

I went here with a few friends and we all enjoyed our food. The service felt slow, but the food more then made up for it. We all got different dishes and everything was really delicious.

I was given this recommendation by a friend who lives locally. It's a small establishment and it was full when I turned up, but I only had to wait a few minutes for a table. The staff were polite and attentive without being overbearing. I took ages to pick something from the large menu.. The food came quickly, and it was delicious and very filling. Excellent value for money and I would absolutely go back.

We found lots of locals eating here. We were seated and served quickly. And our noodles were most delicious. This is a traditional noodle house. Would recommend it to other travelers to san francisco.

Excellent noodle place.. the only place in Japantown that's always crowded, with a line (all the other Japanese restaurants are pretty emply). You know it's good. Service was a bit rude as they were trying to rush us (okay, it was almost closing time and how long can u be mad at an attractive waitress who says GET OUT! with a smile?) Noodles have always been comfort food for me and my Asian bruddas and sistas and this was one of the better places in town. Prepare to be comforted!

Nothing more comforting that a steaming bowl of udon with fresh vegetables!!! The broth is pure vegetarian and is the best part!

Visit this place for cheap amazing noodles. Forget the (good but forgettable) sides and just dig into a bowl of steamy ramen or chilled soba. All food tastes fresh and healthy and service might be stand offish, at least they are swift! I went back here twice during my last stay in SF and can really recommend a visit here. Situated in the Japan Center it is close enough to the Fillmore street shopping area (as well as downhill from there) so walk over here for an excellent lunch/dinner!
3.5 star Japanese udon, soba, and ramen
The service was prompt, though the tables were uncomfortably close together. Chicken karaage was good but not great - could have been a little crunchier. The salad with it was quite good though. We felt the miso ramen was pretty basic, and the egg in it was way overcooked, but the noodles were quite good. The hot udon with tempura was decent but nothing to write home about.
