Nice Beignets and gumbo

By getupradio |

Normally I don't give a 5 star to restaurants unless they are high paying ones, but this is an exception. Easy to find from the streets, I enjoyed the beignets for only 3.99 which made me feel like I was home again. The po-boys are about 8 inches long with a decent price. The cafe au lait is very good. The gumbo had a good rule base with real seafood, okra and sausage. They even have a tofu po boy. There is Louisiana hot sauce and Tony's creole seasoning available to help spice up your entree. I gave a five star maily for the TRUE CUSTOMER SERVICE I recieved from the staff and owner, David C. Customer service goes a long way and many restaurants are starting to forget that. David C came to converse with me, my friend and my girls and even gave us a small history of New Orleans food and restaurants. Though I know alot about New Orleans cuisine as I am related to the late Dookie and leah Chase (God bless her), I still enjoyed how well David was with details on taking order and delivering quality food and customer service. He even gave us tips and history on China and their background. We got food, customer service and history. I will definitely go there again. Enjoyable for eating with family, friends, dates, or solo. Good for small groups only but they offer catering as well for large groups and events. ENJOY!!!

Lunch

Asians can cook Cajun! Before the pc crowd goes berserk, this was my honest reaction when I walked in and found an Asian couple as owners/chef of this place and my doubts about authenticity of Cajun cuisine. After speaking w/wife, they lived/learned this life in New Orleans for 30yrs. The food was not expensive, great value and tasted really good overall and cook to order beignets. Cons:The bay leaf in the red beans and rice side was not enough seasoning, and they certainly won't win any awards for being fancy( plastic dinner ware and dishes served in styrofoam or paper products..not ideal for the environment). I will go back, and try more the extensive menu offers w/nice daily specials.

DELICIOUS

It’s not often I feel compelled to write a review - but this place is absolutely delicious. Sure - food may be a bit slow for some in our instant gratification society. There is a reason for that - it is literally a family run business - dad is the chef ( and the ONLY PERSON in the back of house btw), mom runs the front of the house, and the children take orders and bring food to the tables. We had the gumbo - best I have EVER tasted and is homemade from SCRATCH people - and a couple of shrimp/catfish baskets. The family is from the New Orleans area, which means a lot of the decor is pictures they have taken themselves, beads they have caught themselves, and just an overall vibe that reminds me of being in one of the “mom and pop” places I love so much in the French Quarter. One of my favorite things about this restaurant was when we asked for cocktail sauce, the chef mixed it up himself and brought it to us. I love the jazz they had playing over a soundbar, the owners themselves are some of the nicest people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, and the food is fresh, authentic, and you can tell the passion the chef put in his cooking. The beignets are the closest ones I’ve found outside of cafe du monde - absolutely delicious. The baskets were fresh; the fish was light and delicious. I really can’t say enough good things about the restaurant. Yes, some items have a bit of a bite - for flavor. Point is, support local businesses- and this local place has quickly become one of our favorites

Very poor service/ average food

Has a very disappointing Fat Tuesday dinner here. It took one half of our group 35 minutes to get our food. The other half did not get their food for 60 minutes after ordering. Others waited as long for their take out orders. It was REALLY frustrating. I had the Jambalaya which was just ok. It too spicy for my palate, and I gave ordered Jambalaya a lot. Their beignets were good. It was not a good experience and the food was not good enough that I’d give them another try.

Lunch Party of 3: Muffuletta, Seafood Gumbo, Fried Chicken, and Beignet: Excellent, food, service, it really was so good. The atmosphere is clean, neat, and simple. Order at the counter, pour your own drinks, and the food is delivered to your table.
