Really nice ribeye and chocolate cake

By yanasta |

The ribeye and the chicken were delicious. We were offered wine replacement after a fly went into our wine decanter. We really liked the wine choices and the chocolate cake desert. The service was great. The only negative thing would be the fact that there are a looot of flies in the outdoor space constantly going into our food (not sure how they can deal with that) and that it's the only open restaurant at La Cantera right now so maybe they have to think about putting more choice on the menu.

Birthday Dinner

By shetravelsalone |

I treated my boyfriend to dinner and it was great. All of the food was great and so was the drinks. Even though this restaurant is located in a hotel it did not taste like it. Normally I associate hotel food with cafeteria food but that is not the case with this restaurant. Jacob -the bartend makes a great drink.

Nice view! Nice Food!

By momsuptoolate |

This is the quietest, "nicest", most "adult", most "dressy" of the eating options at the resort. We wanted a quiet dinner away from kiddos and bathing suits, with nicer food - it fit the bill perfectly. We could sit outside, and have a nice view. We ate here twice, and the appetizers, entrees, and desserts are good. Ask your waiter for specials or "off menu" items - our waiter had good recommendations.

Best chicken sandwich

By Jennifer M |

We are here multiple times as it was the only sit down restaurant at the La Cantera resort. Everything we had was good. Their fried chicken sandwich is bomb!! It has avocado and Gouda. Delicious. Their buns are homemade. The pancakes are a large serving. David is an excellent waiter, I would suggest asking for him. Friendly and attentive. The steak and eggs was my husbands favorite but the steak is charred.

Restaurant Week Dinner

By Alanhimmelstein |

Went here for Saturday evening dinner. Service was excellent. Appetizers were great. We ordered the seafood paella and found it adequate at best. It lack seafood - one shrimp, two mussels, one clam, and one piece of squid. Lots of dry rice - dish lacked any kind of sauce. Restaurant ran out of the baked Alaska dessert so the manager offered any other dessert on the menu as a replacement. The desserts were good. No plans to go back as there are many more better restaurants in the same general area.

Great Service, Average Food.

By BobbiTX |

We had dinner during our stay during a stay at La Cantera. I will start by saying our server was fantastic. The service was great! The food however, was just average. We wasn't impressed at all. The Fried chicken had no flavor and was full of grease. it just wasn't making my taste buds dance like I had hoped. The restaurant itself is not romantic but the city view and outdoor seating make it romantic (especially at night).

Incompetent staff and management

By Ver0nica333 |

We ate breakfast here unfortunately two days in a row. Food is not bad, but very incompetent servers. They misunderstood orders, served toast a long while after they brought eggs or forgot the toast altogether, started cleaning up our plates 5 min after bringing food etc. When I complained to the apparent “manager” she pretty much said “oh” and that’s it. Very bad impression of the restaurant. I seriously recommend improving the staff training.

Slow Service for Average Food

By GunnyFred |

Went there for brunch after church. Breakfast buffet has several choices, some of which were cold. They did have fresh fruit. Food was average but wait staff was slow [ several times saw them in a corner visiting with each other]. Prices are a little steep for what you get but had a nice view. They did validate valet parking.

Solid meal, great service

By Mark M |

Had dinner here with a big group including some small children. Everyone enjoyed the meal (good, but not exceptional food; nice beer selection), which was a bit pricey for what it was but not unusual for hotel restaurant pricing. Certainly a good choice if you don't want to leave the hotel for dinner.

Yummy, yummy!

By Sharon R |

When you visit La Cantera do not forget to make reservations to dine at Sweetfire. Breakfast and Sunday brunch were excellently cooked and presented.

Great breakfast buffet

By LydiaDownUnder |

Breakfast buffet isn't offered every day, so check ahead. Fantastic offerings and variety. Come hungry.

Total lack of integrity-added a service charge of over 20% without telling us until we asked for an itemized bill when it seemed

By sarahill |

Let me start by saying--our food and experience, the ambiance, resort etc were excellent. The reason for the 1* review is they engaged in a practice I believe lacks integrity and because of this I will not be returning. We had a lovely dinner here with another couple (4 patrons total) and at the end of the evening handed the waiter 2 cards to split the checks for us as couples. The waiter only brought the final price not the itemized bill. I was about to add my usual 25%+ tip for good service but remarked to my friend my total seemed high for what we ordered to which she agreed so we asked for itemized receipts. Upon receiving them, we saw that a more than 20% service charge (listed as service charge not gratuity) was added onto our checks. I called the waiter over who played dumb like he wasn't sure if it was a tip so I called the manager over who previously had checked on us who also played dumb and they both said akin to "oh we have new computer systems they must have accidentally added that, we can remove it". At this point, when they returned the amended checks I added 20% but less than I would have if this all wouldn't have happened. There was no apology, no sincere regret, etc which made me wonder how many other unsuspecting people get taken this way especially since it is a resort with a lot of tourists. Very unfortunate because we live a couple of miles away and we all had said how much we enjoyed our experience and would return until this happened. I don't mind automatic gratuity at all when it is disclosed but this was dishonest and completely lacked integrity. Had i tipped without noticing the waiter would have received a 60% tip. Also please note these were not like $50 checks, they were almost $200 each (when first brought back). Shame on you Sweetfire

Excellent breakfast buffet!

By camefromfairfield |

Dont miss the excellent breakfast buffet..they have a ton of food to choose from and the omelets are so fluffy! We tried to eat dinner here but it was after 9pm (they close at 10) so we were turned away (that is why I took away 1 star). Otherwise, nice menu and service.

Wonderful hotel restaurant

By no_label |

Great service. if the weather cooperates, eat outside we did, and although it was in the 90's, there was a nice breeze and we were quite comfortable . The quail jalapeño poppers are delicious and not too spicy. I had the filet mignon and it was cooked to perfection . The presentation is beautiful. It's an interesting menu the wine list is not extensive , but it contained some of my favorites, and we decided to try the Bell Gloss Pinot Noir which was delicious. I will note that the mark up was not bad. Another member of our party had the shrimp and grits and thoroughly enjoyed the dish. Service was great we were not rushed, and enjoyed a leisurely dinner.

Good food but slightly overpriced for what it is.

By Tiffany M |

An individual menu item is the way to go here. Buffet is not worth it. Husband and I paid over $100 for BBQ chicken and salad

Food and ambiance heaven

By ParksloperBrooklyn |

Had both dinner and breakfast in SweetFire Kitchen. For dinner I chose the outside terrace and I was not disappointed. The views were great - very relaxing. I had the best filet mignon. So tender and tasty. It's true what they say about Texas Beef. The carrot cake was too large for me and I normally leave nothing on my plate. For breakfast I chose the Eggs Benedict. Different than what I am used to; but again, very delicious.

Good food, inexperienced waitstaff

By Kathryn G |

I was sharing appetizers with a colleague, and we had to ask our server for plates so we could share. She disappeared for what seemed like an awfully long time to go get two plates. Then my colleague and I also shared a pizza as the entree, and that server brought us two plates without even asking.

Slow!

By OscarPhilips |

Ok, I ate here three times while staying at La Cantera and two things were consistent ... great food, and slow service. No being one for a rushed dinner I would have to classify service as slow. Even when we informed our waiter of the need for one of our party to leave for the airport, the service was still too slow. Fix the speed of the service and I would love to come back.

Sweet Fire Breakfast Buffet

By Allison O |

We love eating breakfast at Sweetfire. The buffet is extensive. Excellent made-to-order omelettes, oatmeal with many toppings, a vast selection of breads & pastries, meats, fruit, yogurt, fresh juices, etc.

Customer Service

By rick E |

I had the pleasure to experience the Brunch at this facility a few days ago and number one the facility is great, clean, inviting and well kept. Number 2 the food is excellent, with a lot of options and the price is very affordable for the kind of food you get for the money, I also was helped and assisted by a Gentleman whose name is Jose de La Vega who gave my wife and I a personalized service showing a high grade of Customer Service. Excellent. Congratulations!

Does not live up to expectations

By Hagen H |

Had business dinners there three nights of the week during a conference. Friendly and attentive service staff but food is about average. Fancy prep but quality is not that great. More show than substance; well overpriced.

Good food. The outdoor terrace dining area is great on nice days!

By theinvestmentcoach |

Good place for breakfast and lunch with a nice selection of dishes. The Huevos Rancheros is good if you like Tex-Mex for breakfast.

Limited breakfast choices, but cool atmosphere

By cs3r |

Ate breakfast here. Not a lot of selection, but it’s the only place open for breakfast on property. It’s hard to mess up breakfast and the omelette I ordered was good. They allowed me to substitute vegetables for the potatoes & bread. Bacon was pretty good too. Service was a bit slow because they had one server handling all the tables. The manager helped expedite, but they really need to staff another server. My server was great, it was just hard for her to keep up. The atmosphere and decor are really cool. Not sure I would go out of my way to come here, but if you are staying at La Cantera then you should.

Waste of time

By jowegihi |

First of all, we sat down and it took 15 min for a server to come to our table. We were discussing walking out of the restaurant because it took so long. Just in the nick of time, the server showed up. My wife ordered the chili - didn't taste any better than canned chili with some meat thrown into it. Cost was about $15-$18 ridiculous. She ordered a fancy cocktail for about $12 - poorly mixed and did not have much alcohol. There are so many better food choices in this area, don't waste your time.

Hotel Surprise

By KendallKopper |

Ordinarily I am loathe to eat at the restaurants found in most hotels. The restaurant was initially selected because I was too tired to travel off site. My wife and I ordered a wood fired pizza and hamburger splitting both. The pizza was great and the burger well done. The truffle fries were a delicious treat. We ate outdoors and the weather was perfect. Our serve Andrew was engaged and did a wonderful job. He talked us into trying the ‘fried deviled eggs’ and they were a surprising delight. We finished with there three mousse chocolate cake and it was so good. We went here twice, initially for dinner then for lunch. We were pleased with each trip.

Fun Date Night, Group or Family Dinner

By Allie K |

Family dinner at Sweetfire Kitchen while staying on site at the resort. Delicious offerings! We split a cheese board and quail poppers to start. We all ordered salads before our entree. I ordered the salmon with whipped potatoes (perfectly cooked!). Others at the table enjoyed their meals. Rolls were delicious with an interesting take on a "honey" butter. But the prize at the end of the meal was the largest slice of strawberrry cake! YUMMY! Will definitely go back. Blew any expectations of "hotel dining" out of the water!

Wonderful adult grilled cheese!

By Gwen W |

We were able to have lunch here today. We had amazing service and the adult grilled cheese sandwiches with candied bacon were the best I've ever eaten. It came with yummy fries too. AND had a lemon meringue pie that was as good as my mom's! Melt in your mouth good stuff!!

Menu not consistent

By Lesley G |

I had lunch and dinner in this restaurant. I tried various dishes--some good, most not so good. Nothing exciting.

Delicious Food

the butternut squash with quinoa was so filling and delicious! the waitress was friendly and helpful

Decent food, struggles with service

By utfiero |

Good quality food that was generally well prepared. Service can be spotty and sometimes inattentive. Ate here twice while staying at La Cantera Resort. Lunch: Had a working lunch with two colleagues. Ordered the ribeye sandwich and substituted a side salad instead of fries. Open-faced sandwich was pretty good with tons of caramelized onions covering very thin pieces of ribeye. Salad was very good. Dinner: Had a very large group for a conference dinner, and we had a set menu. Had the ribeye and ordered it medium. A colleague next to me ordered the ribeye and asked for it to be super-rare. My ribeye varied from well done to medium rare, almost like it was over an inconsistent grill. My colleague that ordered his super-rare received a medium-well ribeye. Although it was a large group, the food preparation just missed the mark. Sides and vegetables were served family style. The asparagus was good but cooked just a little too much. Other sides like macaroni and cauliflower were good. Service: Overall good service but our waitress for lunch was not very attuned to us. For example, we had to ask for drink refills (water and tea). Staff for our large group dinner was very good but had great difficulty taking drink orders. Several in our group ordered single-malt Scotch whisky, and we know our Scotch. Throughout the dinner, the waiters made mistakes and brought us whisky other than what we ordered. For example, we know Balvanie 12. What was brought was a Smokey Islay style. We immediately told our waiter, but he insisted it was Balvanie and then added the bar ran out of 12 and substituted 14. But the “normal” 14 from Balvanie is the Caribbean Cask- not smokey at all. So we have no idea what we actually received. Then, we did bombard our waiter with three orders at once, and the poor kid messed them up completely. The dinner staff needs some training (1) about Scotch whisky and (2) writing down orders. Overall cleanliness: very clean Bathroom cleanliness: very clean

Lumps thinned out

By Michael G |

SweetFire has good food and a manager who is hopping. Actually the manager saved the experience as the staff, although friendly and warm, need a good polishing. I did enjoy their homemade rolls, a salad and the pork chops which were amazing. Too I appreciated the chef stopping by the table to ask how my meal tasted.

Neat place

By FiveDivers |

Very cool kitchen layout. Great food and great service. Went here for a Christmas party and exceeded expectations.

The crab cake appetizer is delicious!

By PPPhelps |

The service we received and the quality of the food was very good! We started with a crab cake appetizer, followed with a wedge salad with chunks of blue cheese, and shared the roasted salmon entrée with grilled asparagus and roasted cream corn. Delicious!

Nice Buffet

By Felicia J |

Nice Breakfast buffet, friendly staff, alot of food options, only had breakfast, which was very good

A relaxed American bistro that provides good food

By utfiero |

I had a business lunch and a group dinner at Sweetfire while staying at La Cantera. Overall food quality: Good quality food that was generally well prepared. I had a bbq chicken sandwich for lunch. It was decent but the quality wasn’t better than chik-Fil-A. But dinner fare offered much better quality. I had an 8 ounce filet that was very good quality. The fresh vegetables were perfectly cooked and very fresh. My wife had a surf and turf special of filet and shrimp. Both were excellent. But we have a few gripes about dinner- (1) The cutlery was pathetic. My "steak knife" was barely better than a butter knife. (2) Also, my wife ordered beet salad. The beets were miniature with hardly any beets! Service: Overall good service but our waitress for lunch seemed somewhat inexperienced. Staff for our large group dinner was very good. Concerning our lunch waitress, her lack of experience was symptomatic of a larger trend we noticed at La Cantera. The staff was generally friendly and eager to assist but not knowledgeable or experienced. For example, we asked the hostess at the Sweetfire Kitchen a question about a nearby section of the hotel (does the citadel have a viewing platform?). She had no idea. Overall cleanliness: very clean Bathroom cleanliness: very clean

Good food and value

By chatt j |

Reasonably priced and easy to get reservations as guests. Wine and steaks cooked to order. Environment excellent.

Wow!

By CATHY M |

We had the breakfast buffet on Sunday. The selection was amazing. Everything was so fresh and delicious. Service was excellent.

Hard to say "average" but...

By caroleiaap |

Service was VERY slow both nights that I ate here. VERY. Slow to take order, slow to bring food, etc. The menu options are pretty varied; one night I had pork chop which was excellent. I had to substitute the side order due to allergies, and my side dish was surprisingly small, but no worries. The bread they serve is really delicious. The next night I had an offering from the Restaurant Week menu - portions were very generous, but I thought it wasn't nearly as good as the pork I'd had previously. Another interesting thing (for those who care about such things) was that while we all had the same wine (bottle) we did not all have the same wine glasses.

Christmas brunch

By Aburel |

Pretty busy. Parking available. The hotel grounds are nice and modern. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice, modern but cosy. The wine list and service were great. We got a Texan Sangiovese - less full bodied but nice. The menu was comprehensive and elaborate. Al tastes and interest were covered. A bit on the lower side for kids. But nice.

Mediocre at best

By JANNETTE E |

Not sure where to start. Place was clean, service good. Shrimp and grits we're decent, the famous fried chicken though won't be in my favorites list. Very dry, no seasoning, the Texas toast was good. Not a fan of the peach/jalapeno chutney sauce. We got large sides of spinach, and mashed potatoes, however, the beer Mac & cheese came out in this rinky dink dish that you only get 3 spoonfuls from. The spinach was fresh, however, should have had some seasoning... The mashed potatoes were good, just too cold. Will we go back, maybe.

Room to Grow

By Christie D |

The food was good and the ambiance was nice, but the service was really lacking. The food manager seemed receptive to feedback, and I hope he helps his staff grow!

The things that count

By Ricardo V |

The food is good. I wouldn't say spectacular, but it's good. I was at the resort for a few days due to a business trip. I ate there a handful of times. They had a buffet set up which worked out well. I picked what I wanted and that left me satisfied. One of the mornings a waiter (I didn't catch his name) helped me go off menu. I'm a simple man and just needed something quick before the conference. They made me 2 bacon, egg, and cheese croissants with some seasoned potatoes. The plating was great. I appreciated that very much. One of the days we went for lunch and I asked a girl for some help since we hadn't been helped yet and she didn't hesitate to help me out. She was a hostess and I think her name was Jasmine. I'm not used to a hostess being so helpful so I made sure to leave her a tip. The staff was the difference maker and that made me enjoy the place.

Best drinks!

By Kristin W |

If you get a chance to go, you have to go to the bar and have Craft make you some drinks. He made the greatest speciality drinks and was so great to talk with that we made it a point to go each day to see him. The restaurant manager, Chris, was so great and really went out of her way to make our experience so special! Excellent staff and service!

Great Food from an Resort Restaurant

By Tigrman |

Good portions and the bar staff was great. We landed late and arrived in time for a meal from Sweet Fire.

Breakfast with friends.

By Ralph B |

The restaurant is located on the third floor of the property. It is a pleasant room however there were lots of children and it was very noisy and service was slow. I found the bacon very greasy . Their buffet looked beautiful however I was not hungry enough to attack it.

Enjoyable meal

By Brenda C |

We had a nice dinner here during our La Cantera Resort stay. We were having a family outing. For myself I'd have liked a little more variety on the menu.

Nice ambiance but food just so-so

By texmex2 |

Staying here for a business trip weekend. Lively and nice ambiance inside and patio too. Waiter was good and fairly timely. The food was very average. Cornbread was the best thing (appetizer) over everything else. Burger was not well done but rare. Grits were not fully cooked and cold. White fish was very good. It had potential to be great - just lacks consistency.

Lovely design. Lousy service. Mediocre food.

By jpatter1 |

La Cantera generally is a great facility. But go off property to eat. We ate and three restaurants including this one; just awful service. The servers seem to be brand new, untrained, clueless and careless. If we're paying these prices, we don't want to be mad the whole time.

Excellent Food, Excellent Views.....

By djbarista |

The views are spectacular if you sit outside. The steaks are incredible and their hamburgers out of this world...

Delicious!

By 454karaz |

The food was amazing! We ordered a fruit and cheese tray which the kids loved. I ordered a filet and mashed potatoes that was to die for. The server actually recommended it and so glad I decided to go with it. We sat outside because we had three kids with us and it was so beautiful and right next to a courtyard.

Breakfast and relax

By Philip D |

Having breakfast here was such a nice experience, relax with the spectacular view. I hit the bar and run into Philip, a very friendly bartender, fun to hang out with. His mixed drink was excellent. I love it. Will be back here regularly for sure.

Get the puffy chicken tacos

By johng12345 |

Good service and the puffy chicken tacos are awesome! Good variety of drinks never if you like cigars was even blue to sit outside me have one

Disappointing menu and marginal service

By zymar |

Atmosphere is excellent. nice views and comfortable seating. Menu needs more choices. I had Brisket. Brisket was over seasoned and had texture like a tub of shredded meat from the grocery store. My wife had crab cakes and they were above average taste. Our kids had the childrens buffet and it was adequate for the price. Waitress was nice but distracted and forgot to bring deserts that we're paid for. Overall, it is convenient if you are stay at the hotel but is lacking in some areas.

Lacks Consistency

By comansandrew |

Lacks consistency. Steak was over cooked, lobster tail was cold. Second steak and lobster tail they brought out were cooked correctly and warm, but had no flavor whatsoever. My first cocktail and second cocktail were not consistent and tasted different. Even the first glass of water and second were different. It’s like the first glass of water was filtered and beyond that they just give you tap water. Didn’t have high expectations, but this place needs to focus on being more consistent with food and drink. Service was spotty after having to send the steak back foe being over cooked. Ordered medium rare and steak came out medium well. $44 for 6oz filet. Paying that price, I’d at least expect it cooked correctly.

Awesome Easter Brunch

By FiveDivers |

We've been here for dinner several times and it has always been excellent. We cam for Easter Brunch and it was over the top good. Excellent service by Isaiah and excellent selections, varieties and quality of food. Lots of custom stations: omelette, pancake & waffle bar, carving station with turkey, prime rib roast and leg of lamb, warm cinnamon rolls, cold seafood bar...it just goes on and on. Can't wait til next holiday.

Breakfast Buffet is on point!

By mrRDRQZ |

This spot had the best breakfast 3 days in a row without spinning up the same ole same ole. They had every thing you could want including items for allergy specific clientele.

Thanksgiving Dinner

By Travelsx10 |

Absolutely amazing food! We had our Thanksgiving dinner here and it was above all our expectations. We will definitely do that again! (You have to make reservations way ahead of Thanksgiving to be sure to get in on that day.)

Thanksgiving Dinner

By vaughanm1976 |

Our extended family went to SweetFire Kitchen located in the La Cantera Resport and Spa for Thanksgiving brunch/lunch. It was served as a buffet. Excellent selection of food including a raw bar, cheese board, salads, traditional Thanksgiving fare, and desserts. Service was excellent and the food was very, very good. Even for a buffet the food presentation was excellent.

Wow....Superb experience!

By Bob C |

Went to a party for 32 people. Service from the outset was outstanding. Two waiters were dedicated and others chipped in for major efforts (four course service for all). I had the best filet I think I have ever had, and that includes many visits to San Antonio's best steak houses, including Bohanan's. The house wines that were served before and during dinner were exceptional as well. The scallops appetizer and corn cream soup were outstanding complements. Will definitely be returning with family and friends!

Decent food for a hotel

By babyshon |

The environment is nice; moderately noisy and the staff is attentive. If you don't feel like getting out, this is not a bad option.

Great service, ok food

By MsNance-TX |

We had four couples meet for dinner, worth a variety of dietary restrictions. I will start by saying our server was fantastic, and the manager moved us inside from the patio, precisely before the huge storm hit. The food however, was just average. We had vegetarians who had to order several sides, meat lovers who said the steak was "just ok", desserts which were not as good as were hoped for. I think the storm threw everyone off, as they lost power temporarily. I hope they can do better on a normal day!

Went there for Thanksgiving

By 29RonS |

Went there for Thanksgiving meal. Excellent. Wonderful offering of a wide variety of foods along with traditional turkey and dressing. The service was exceptional. Would definitely recommend Sweet Fire.

Solid food and service

By Scuba_Divers |

If you are staying in the hotel, stop in. Not sure it's worth the drive if you are staying elsewhere. Food was plentiful and good - not great. San Antonio has some awesome restaurants - many a short drive from this restaurant. We ate mushroom flatbread ans tge two xhocken dishes. The baked half chicken is a lot of food. The market veggies with various types of carrots and beats was unique. However after dinner drinks outside with a view of city lights, warmed by the fire pits, and mesmerized by flames dancing on the water ... that is cool.

Christmas Brunch, Wow!

By 927donaldv |

Let me say their Christmas Brunch was over the top. The food was fresh, hot and tasty. We had a few other meals and they always delivered. When you are on the property please enjoy a great restaurant.

Disaster

By ashloveslucy |

Went here for a lunch date - there was hardly anyone eating in restaurant (not busy). Two managers greeted us and I explained articulately my food allergies - inquiring if they could accommodate me. They assured me I could tell the server and it would be safe and said they would speak to the chef. I ordered & waited for 30 minutes, only to be given a plate with seasoning and tomatoes- both foods I cannot have. No one noticed it- not the server who brought it to me, nor the managers- none of the 3 of them I had spoken with, were paying any attention to what the final result was. When I asked the server to bring the manager over, his passivity amazed me- no apology - just alluded they could remake the food- to which I said no bc I didn't trust their accuracy in overseeing final order , to which he basically walked off. He was nice but very passive and negligent with what should have been handled efficiently and easily- given they were NOT BUSY at all. Most of the time I saw these two managers, they were talking between themselves, standing around the restaurant. Customer service was not a priority and making sure my food was safe was overlooked, and then not was making the matter right to which we felt better or good enough to eat there was overlooked. If you have any special needs, I would not go to this restaurant. :(

Dinner for NYE 2018

By Vanessa Ochoa |

Me and my family went to this restaurant for NYE 2018, the staff was very accommodating since we reserved last minute and they were able to give us a table for 4, the restaurant is gorgeous and it has amazing views all around. The food was good but it was very cold and our waiter had to microwave it for us several times, the desserts were ok as well but not memorable.. I love going to the resort and the spa at La Cantera Resort and I certainly expected a lot more from this restaurant, but I am thinking maybe it was just not on it's A game because it was such a busy night? Maybe I'll give them another chance sometime in the future..

Very good breakfast, pricey Dinner

By LlanoSher |

Had breakfast here three times during our stay and were happy with the quality of the food and service. The patio is very pleasant, with a pretty view. Service was fairly quick, but one quirk - we ordered eggs each morning and every time had to wait for the server to bring salt and pepper - I would recommend wait staff fix that! Breakfast buffet on Labor Day was really nice and fresh. We had Dinner one night and it was very good but pricey - atmosphere and service was very good, however. Would recommend, it's nice not to have to leave the resort to have a meal.

Not worth it

By Opera W |

Service was not great. I visited twice during my stay. The first time was at night. I was never waited on so I ended us walking out. The second day, I visited for the buffet since it was included in my hotel package. The breakfast was lukewarm and the options was slim. There were gnats all over the pastries. I mentioned it to the kitchen cook and he said they had tried to get rid of them but were unsuccessful. Overall, I was not impressed and will not be returning.

Great Sangria!

By Deanna K |

The Chicken Tingo Tacos were great and the sangria was the best! Super light and refreshing. Wonderful Hill country views!

Very impressed by the SERVICE & MENU...

By Debbie O |

I had to write about my wonderful lunch at the SweetFire Kitchen. The special was sea bass with scallops and I don't like sea bass, so the server was quick to offer salmon in it's place, so that I could try their special and it was fabulous. Great to have someone anticipate my needs, beautiful renovation, lovely natural light and I really enjoyed the food. I'd highly recommend the small ceasar - minus the anchovies, it's chopped so that each bite easily fits into your mouth without that awkward leaf hanging out and it's seasoned just right. Very impressive meal in a hotel restaurant...

What a Surprise

By Andangi |

I was recommended by others to try their burger, and was amazingly surprised at how delicious it was! Big, juicy, and cooked to your liking. Not to mention my weakness....crispy onion strings. Everyone at the table ate with jealousy and regretted not getting the burger as well. So I'm passing the recommendation to others - try their burger!

Yummy breakfast

By austinamers |

We ate here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. My husband had the buffet while I ordered Eggs Benedict off the menu. My dish came with delicious potatoes...cooked very well and slightly spicy! We both enjoyed our meals immensely. Our server was very attentive and kept our cups filled with hot coffee!

Superb Restaurant!!

By Sal R |

It's a superb restaurant. Our Valentine’s Day dinner again confirmed this. The Valentine’s Day menu was simple and delicious. They did run out of oysters because of The Super Bowl the night before. That’s not really on them. Our Server, Haley Mahabir was superb in taking care of us. Please promote her or give her a raise, she deserves that level of recognition. Overall, I highly recommend them.

Best Christmas Buffet

By Marla R |

We took the family to the Christmas Buffet and it was absolutely fabulous. Great service, beautiful buffet presentation and excellent food. We will do it again for any special occasion!

New Years Feast!!!!

By Lux_Traveler |

I made reservations at this restaurant for a New Years Eve dinner for my wife and I. We were extremely disappointed as we were under the impression it was a sit down made to order gourmet meal. The reservations were made using opentable so I'm not sure if their was a miscommunication on the part of the restaurant or opentable however we were treated to a buffet dinner which we do not like buffet dinners whatsoever especially on a special occasion as this was a nice dinner out. The food was cold as we had a 930pm reservation and we were charged $125.00 per person. I am very disappointed in the Experience with this restaurant and I'm not sure if I would come back. The restaurant should be held responsible for the mix up and the cold food. We felt like we were robbed. We did not hold this against our server and we tipped her 20% of the bill. Very Very Very disappointed as we wanted to order some of the wonderful choices on the menu.

Bad start but strong finish

I chose SweetFire Kitchen for my Mother's Day brunch; though expensive, it was advertised as extensive and I really wanted to go all-out this year (because I actually had one of my long-distance kids in attendance!). The resort is posh, to say the least, and we arrived early just to have a look around. When we checked in, we had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated even though the restaurant was practically empty. We walked around some more and when we returned we were shown to a table right next to the kitchen. The whole room was empty except for two tables and they wanted to seat us next to the kitchen. I immediately asked for another table and was told to wait while the hostess conferred with a manager. She came back and told me that all of the tables had been assigned and that she could only offer me one other table, two tables away from the first. It was a better location and we took it, although I was tempted to try for still another spot. I don't like being on the busiest path of the restaurant (which proved to be a bit of an issue later when the restaurant became busier). SweetFire Kitchen advertises its extensive craft cocktail offerings so I was surprised when I asked for a beverage menu besides the wine list and was told there was none. But the bartender could make me anything I wanted, offered the waiter. What I wanted was to read a cocktail menu. How do they not have one? I ordered a mimosa. Strike two … Thankfully, strike three never came. The food (which on a big brunch day can be iffy in any restaurant) was uniformly delicious. The buffet was, as advertised, extensive with a charcuterie, salads, seafood, breads and pastries, soup, hot dishes, cold dishes, and some pretty amazing desserts. Everything, except for some gritty-ish oysters, was very good and many of the items were prepared in very creative ways. Our waiter was attentive and pleasant and my Mother's Day brunch, after a bad start, was saved by good food.

food was okay,

food was okay, service a tad slow. was sure meant to handle big events. Interior design was strange placement of odd things

Great Service

The hallmark of this resort is its service. We ate breakfast here twice. The food was very good but not memorable. The breakfast buffet looked great but way too pricey for modest or healthy diners.

Say What!

So when you order a rib eye steak and you get a sirloin you are in the wrong place. When your waiter tells you they are close to the same cut of meat you need to get up and leave.

Good food

Good food, reasonable cost. Personally I don't care for the open kitchen and being able to watch one chef train another making flat bread, but I know that is now the trend. Large plates and very sinful desserts - but oh! they were fabulous. Eat here by all means.

Much better places for the money...

First of all, Leah, our server did a very good job. The food/cook on the other hand did not. My salmon was bland and and chimichurri sauce lacked taste. The asparagus was too large and way undercooked and again no taste at all. (Grill marks were good though). My wife’s N.Y. Strip was on the small and too thin side, a bit tough and again no seasoning nor sauce. I did taste some “candied” carrots. They were good but again undercooked. Oh forgot to mention, rolls were not fresh! My friend’s salad looked good. My wife and I had 2 entrees, just one glass of Chardonnay ($15), with tip $98. Overall, so many other places in San Antonio where food is much more tasty and better quality for the money.

What a great experience!!!

Excellent food! We tried the quail jalapeños, OMG!! My favorites! Excellent service, great atmosphere but the best thing, even that you're from San Antonio, you will feel like you're on vacation!! It was a great experience!!
