Was invited for Birthday party, and nicely surprised

By Traveler |

Food was really good, service was good as well. Place is relatively small maybe that is why it was full. We really enjoyed peaceful dinner with friends. All of the food we ordered was really fresh and tasted very good.

In this establishment, you will find a culinary works of art by the chef.

The food selection includes a good variety of seafood dishes. Especially appealing to the sensory receptors would be the seafood platter, richly populated by the assortment of the wounders of the sea, accompanied by the delicious pasta with Alfredo sauce. This platter is sufficient for two very hungry New Yorkers. Foie grass was also perfect. Because of the covid-19 restrictions, the tasting was conducted via the delivery venue.

A fantastic family brunch

My whole family came to the Sweetspot Cafe to celebrate an important family anniversary and every one of us enjoyed the experience very much! The food was delicious and served great (see attached photos). The service was very friendly and not at all pushy as is sometimes the case in many Russian restaurants in Brooklyn. This is my new favorite spot in the area. Highly recommend! I urge you to call in to reserve a table in advance as many other savvy diners seek to enjoy the food and the cozy ambience oat this small and very friendly restaurant.

Definitely a sweet spot in Brooklyn

The place was recommended to me by friends. We decided to celebrate my wife's birthday here after a quick visit and seeing that it was packed. Quaint small place that you wouldn't notice much from outside. It has the capacity for about 60 people. You can come here with and without reservations. They offer food by menu, and if reserving a large party, they offer two types of banquets. For our visit, we ordered their top banquet. While it is certainly is a bit pricey at $90pp, you can quickly see why based on what they offer. The food was superb. From salads, to hot plates, everything was really good. I dont know where to begin with what we tried: tuna and salmon tartar, oysters, lobsters, lamb chops, salmon, Chilean seabass. The service was very good. All the staff was attentive to all the guests, offering and serving all the dishes. I am definitely going to come back here again.

Not a sweet place it used to be!

What a sweet place it used to be! Unfortunately, this restaurant has significantly reduced its portion sizes, making it feel overpriced. This feeling deepens when you receive a bill with a built-in service charge and a surcharge for credit card payments. While the new location is more attractive than the old one, the overall experience has declined. This used to be one of our favorite places in Brooklyn, but sadly, it no longer meets our expectations. I hope they can return to their former quality, as we would love to enjoy it again.

The food was excellent, well prepared and very tasty, Staff was friendly and very informative, though a slight language problem, interesting but not a problem. Prices were extremely reasonable and definitely worth going to

A perfect meal for all

By Bevan B |

Last Wednesday, I went to the Sweet Spot Cafe for the second time, for my friend's birthday party, and again I found the place fully packed with happy customers (in the middle of the week(!!!), that speaks volumes) and the only reason I give it a 4-star rating, is because it was quite noisy and, although I recommend you experience it for yourself, I suggest making reservations. This is not a suit-n-tie kind of a place so I saw some people quite dressed up and some dressed down. The menu is quite extensive - we were a party of 10, so we ordered all different dishes, too many to list here, and every dish was "delish" - none of those greasy foods, maybe not exactly a gourmet but definitely on a gourmet/healthy side. As one should expect, this is not a "cheap eats" kind of place but not overly expensive either and, if you want to impress your date or a banquet-guests, this is the place... The staff is helpful and friendly, we were allowed to bring our own liquor, hence I don't know what kind of alcoholic beverages are served at the bar, but there is one...

Great place for a meal and a celebration

By Grumo |

We had an excellent meal at Sweet Spot Café on Coney Island Avenue. They provide good service with attentive staff speaking both Russian and English. They work with our pace, which was a relaxed time with family for a celebration. I had Chilean sea bass, which was outstanding. Each item on my plate was delicious: the fish, the vegetables and the mashed potatoes, which were very good. The sea bass was moist and scrumptious. My companions enjoyed their chicken and lamb kebabs. Note that kebabs here are thin slabs of meat, not the cubes you get elsewhere. People really like the octopus appetizer. Not a lot of octopus but tasty. Greek salad was good. Not an enormous portion but but tasty. Some people really like the calamari. I thought it was a less than generous portion. Overall we would have liked a little more volume to the appetizers. The entrees were just right. Some members of our party had soup, which came in good sized portions. One person had a Georgian beef soup that he liked. Two people had green borscht, a summer soup with tasty greens in it. We had rose wine, which I was not crazy about. Might be my taste and not the wine. You can bring your own wine. No corking fee. Note there is a $30 fee if you bring your own dessert. Nice basket of bread. I really appreciate the dish of soft butter that came with it. For five of us the bill for five entrees, three appetizers, two glass of wine and three bowls of soup came to $250 including tip for a very good meal which we were there for a few hours. Sweet Spot Cafe is a good place for a celebration.

Trying to make a reservation

By Tatyana F |

Our guests are arriving around 3:30 on Sunday. We wanted to sit down, have a meal, and chat. I called to make a reservation at this cafe. Artem answered, saying he was the manager. He asked, ‘Will you leave by 5?’ I thought maybe there was a banquet after 5, but I was told, ‘No, we just have two time slots: until 5 and from 6. It’s inconvenient for us otherwise. Even Igor (the owner) won’t be able to help you.’ It felt very rude and unprofessional. I’ve lived in the US for 30 years and have been to this cafe many times (though usually after 6), but I’ve never encountered service like this anywhere before. My desire to visit again has probably disappeared for good.

Good restaurant that needs some improvement

By Mariya R |

Went with family to celebrate my Birthday. Were sitted and waited about 20 min to be asked what drinks we would like. Then about 30 min for appetizers to be brought. Main course we waited closer to 1 hour! Food was good, but service need a lot of improvement. Not even once we were asked, if everything was o’k, or if we would like something. Waiters going back and forth, but it’s seems that they don’t really know what they are doing. Now about the music. I understand that age of people visiting restaurant is different, but this evening mostly were people 60+. I would think that lady DJ should adjust the music that most of this group age will like. From 7pm to 9pm music was such that nobody danced, At 9pm when most people were leaving, because it was Sunday, we heard some familiar songs and 4 people came out to dance, but there was no more space for others. For such a big restaurant to have such a small space for dancing, is not acceptable. Don’t think that will go there again, especially that prices are also high.

Superb!

The food is excellent, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Appetizers are sophisticated and delicious. Four of us had different entrees - one is better than the next! Portions are generous and nicely plated. You know that you had a great dinner when you drive home happy!

Best food in Brooklyn

By Ellana S |

Not that this place does not have enough customers , ... They do ! And rightfully so! Great food , friendly staff ! I went there with my family and friends twice and will definitely come back . The only minus of this place , it gets super noisy and I'm not sure how to avoid the noise . Maybe the walls lining ( or absence of it) give the place such an acoustic . But the food is totally worth it . Sweetspot cafe is sweet ! Love it

It’s quite pleasant good is very average

By OLenany |

Overall we had good time in the restaurant. It is very clean, the service was very good, everyone is very polite and kind. For some reason the day we went there only 60+ age group people were there. Since we were there for the first and only time there, I can’t tell if that the case with this restaurant on a regular basis or that was an exception. The food was quite average, nothing special at all. I was really upset when we ordered fried potatoes with chanterelle mushrooms ( which was market price), which came out about $50. Insane . And unfortunately the potatoes weren’t tasty at all . The steak was also dry and not juicy at all. As for the pricing, it’s more on a high prices places, not median I don’t think we’d return here.

Great place, great food

There is one problem with this place - it's hard to get there without reservation! Everything else is a top notch. The quality of food is on the level of 5 stars restaurants, the service is as good as it should be, the atmosphere is very friendly. I would recommend this cafe, but don't forget, make reservation first.

Not good

By Dream607856 |

I'm a longtime Sweet Spot customer, but I've always ordered A La Carte menus. On January 4, 2025, I invited 12 people to my birthday. I have not experienced such grief and disappointment for a long time. Over 10 guests were obliged to order a banquet menu, which with all the allowances cost $160.00 per person (this is a banquet for $120.00). For this money, I hoped that the table would be bursting with delicious food. But alas... Food was passed from one end of the table to the other, some dishes were tasteless. Only 2 types of salad. I could not imagine that there would be 6 thin pieces of chicken roll measuring 5 s on a saucer. The only thing that was delicious was fish. The hot dish (pieces of steak) was tough and the guests hardly ate it. I was ashamed... I wanted the best, but it didn't work out the way I wanted. You can't set such a poor table for that kind of money.

A little hideaway with great food

By TheGrymza . |

A small but well-appointed little café, more like a restaurant. Food is very good: it is well presented, imaginative, fresh, tasty, and varied; portions are sizeable, but not overwhelming. Service is quick and attentive. In all, you walk out with a feeling of total satisfaction, not "omg, I've overdone it (again)." Recommend: avocado salad and mushroom julienne for appetizers; lamb kebab was great, as was shrimp in white garlic sauce.. Tip: BYOB. And DO byo a bottle of wine, you won't regret it :)

Great assortment of European food.
