Very good food but...

By Gloria L |

We ate here for the first time. It was quiet (and early - only 5 pm). But the music they played was 'fast/edgy runway' stuff that distracted the mind/body. Our waiter was very pleasant and attentive. Husband loved his chicken entree; succulent. We enjoyed their squash soup though the extra 'kick' was a little strange. I tried their rock fish crepe 'tacos' which were tasty but opted not to stuff the crepes (too small and flimsy to work). Spouse had in-house chocolate ice cream and raved. Unsure we'd return; music did shift gears about half way thru our meal to something more mellow but we prefer the calm vibe throughout our meals. VERY PRICE MEAL too.

Fun place with friends!

Good selection and the service was awesome. Great location downtown too; casual and friendly. Didn’t order food, only drank, but it looked and smelled pretty yummy...

Great happy hour but super slow service

By mtn_peach |

We were "lucky" enough to get a seat on one of the great leather couches in the bar for happy hour. The food was really good and so were the specialty cocktails, but the service was ridiculously slow as there seemed to be only two waitresses handling the whole place. So if it's not too busy and you're not in a huge hurry it's a great stop for happy hour.

Probably wouldn't go back

By WebDeb53 |

I don't need to go back to Swine. It wasn't terrible. The pork chop, poutine, burger and chicken wings were fine. There are 5 or 6 ok beers on the tap list (I know it's a whiskey bar but this IS Portland. My martini was tiny and, as near as I could tell, neither stirred nor shaken. The food came slowly, one item at a time. One of our group didn't get his whiskey flight until he was halfway done with his burger. And he never did get his salad. I got my oyster po boy after everyone was finished. For $15, I was served a smallish piece of bread with some iceburg lettuce on it and 2 1/2 small fried oysters. I just looked at it and sent it back. Tiana was very nice and cheerful. She took the salad and po boy off the bill with a smile. But she never apologized for or even acknowledged the problems that we had. There are way too many good restaurants in Portland to go back to this one.

Totally Enjoyable

By EllesseB |

I went here with a friend for a casual dinner and we had a great time. Instead of ordering main courses, we decided to go with a few different appetizers and it worked out perfectly. There was enough for us without overdoing it. One of the appetizers was a beet and goat cheese salad which was excellent. The service was fine and we took our time. No one rushed us. I'd certainly go back to try their main courses.

easter brunch

By Monica H |

Fair. Not great, food not outstanding, service mediocre. We were here for brunch on Easter Sunday. The waitstaff seemed unfocused or untrained. The restuarant was still fairly empty when we arrived but we couldn't seem to be able to get coffee. I finally gave up, grabbed cups off the adjoining table and went up to the bar and fetched my own. The brunch buffet had many items but none were outstanding or even above average. However, this is a hotel restaurant so I don't expect much. I wouldn't return. Portland is a city of fabulous and creative chefs in restaurants large and small. You do not have to eat bad food in this city.

A Great Spot to to start in Portland (or Hurvos Rancheros Heaven)

By Frugal Barrister |

My first visit to Portland inauspiciously began with an hour delay on my Denver layover from Grand Rapids resulting in arriving at my downtown hotel at 4:00 am EST. Thus, in trying to keep my biosked as normal as possible, on the desk’s rec, I found Swank as it opened at 6:30 am Pacific. (Swine is the companion eatery in the same building). Great decor, immaculately clean, with an attentive and very helpful server (Rhondee). A freshly printed menu and coffee appeared nearly simultaneously with being seated. As, shortly, did a complimentary fried donut with an incredible lemon curd sauce. Though tempted by Rhondee’s recommendation of the Baked Eggs, I opted for the Huevos Rancheros in a close call over the Duck Confit Hash. It turned out to be a great call. The Racheros ( as advertised, w/medium poached eggs, tomatillo salsa verde, white beans and chorizo) were the best I’ve ever had and to quote a line from The Godfather, “...and I’ve had em all over the world”. (Well, at least all over the US & Part of Mexico- FB editorial license). The eggs were perfect and the in-house salsa verde really set the dish apart. I cannot be over effusive in my praise. I’ll be back-and I’ll bring friends. Frugal Barrister. U

Lovely pub bar. Nice selection of drinks and eats. Great service

We had drinks, breakfast and dinner here on several days. We we staying at the hotel and so glad to be able to get gourmet food and drinks during some cold nights.

Good food and cocktails

By oregongirl2005 |

Decent food and service, though prices are a bit high for quantity. Good happy hour cocktails (try the gin and juice). Vibe is Portland hipster but not in a bad way.

Dinner and drinks with co-workers

By Tony K |

I've stayed at the Paramount the past two trips to Portland, and the Swank restaurant and the Swine Moonshine and Whisky bar did not disappoint. The selection of Whiskeys, Bourbons, etc were fantastic, The food was great as well. I'll be back next time I'm in Portland!

Enjoyed a Sunday Brunch with waffles, eggs benedict and a Bloody Mary made with bacon flavored whiskey - All was delish ...

Poor

By Stephen B |

Our first night in Portland staying at the Paramount so we ate in the hotel at Swanks. The fact the restaurant was empty should have been the first red flag. To be fair they accomodated my son with chicken tenders and fries which arrived a good thirty minutes before our meals arrived. Almost an hour after ordering our mains arrived. The Dungeness crab was ok, but not a lot of it. The porterhouse pork was well presented but barely cooked. Poor Austin our waiter was embarrassed but did his best to placate us. Neither the chef nor general manager were anywhere to be seen. Very poor. The only reason I give 1 star is for the chicken tenders. My advice to Austin, find a better establishment to work.

Stroke of luck

By AmyM52005 |

Our concert tickets had a coupon for 15% off of dinner at swank and swine. We decided to give it a try am called to make reservations between 6 PM and 6:30 PM. Within 10 minutes of leaving a message about wanting reservations the hostess, Elise called back to let us know that there were none available for that time. I inquired about a waitlist and she said that they don't do that but if we came down there and we were there if they had a cancellation those tables went on a first come first serve basis . We told her we were coming down for happy hour anyway and she requested that we come meet her at the restaurant. When we arrived we introduced ourselves and she told us that we could eat at their bar top in the restaurant if we wanted to we said that would be acceptable but we wanted to go over to the other side of their establishment named Swine, which is an amazing whiskey bar. She told us if the bar top started to get full she would come and get us so we can eat at the bar. About 45 minutes later she came over to Swine and told us they had a cancellation and they could seat us immediately a table but they would need the table back by 7:30. This was perfect because our concert started at eight and we wanted to get there early enough to get seated and comfortable. Our service was great and at the end of our wonderful meal we asked to speak with the manager because we wanted to let them know how impressed we were with the service and the accommodation. The manager came over to our table and lo and behold it was Elise! We thanked her for the wonderful meal and for getting us a table to make our date night very special. We recommend Swank and Swine for anybody who loves great food great service and great whiskey!

Lively atmosphere, good drinks and beers, tasty healthy appetizers!

By Michael L |

A great bar in a nice hotel (Paramount). The drinks are good, nice choice of beers, but their appetizers were some of the healthiest I’ve ever seen! For example, their Brussel sprouts baked with Romano cheese , bread crumbs and balsamic vinegar was really good. Nice, lively atmosphere without being too loud. Sports games on tv. Good service. Excellent experiences! Close to a lot of transport. Their restaurant across the lobby was also very good.

Great dinner

By Stefano |

We stopped in as it was close by our hotel. We ordered drinks and a bunch of apps. Service was very friendly. Place had a cool industrial feel to it. Highly recommended if in the area, and would def come back.

Happy Hour fun

By cdog612 |

Staying down for a conference allowed us to visit this place for happy hour starting at 9:30. A casual but relaxed bar along with Alford service, we were able to find a beverage and apps to enjoy.

Top Shelf Cocktails and Service

By buckrael |

I met family at Swank and Swine for my sister's birthday and we had a great time. I loved their cocktail menu, but they also have a nice fish menu as well. It's a sort of manly, whisky-type environment with wood, leather, banquettes and tables. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable. I had the Gray Escape which had Creme de Violette, lemon and brut-i LOVED IT! My sister had a cold so she had a hot toddy that helped her sleep well. We selected angels on horseback and beef taquitos with cheese sauce from the nosh menu-the bacon wrapped dates were relish, but there were only 4 small ones in the bowl. The taquitos were very greasy.

Really Disappointed

By spirit_8 |

Our first visit was for happy hour and we were disappointed. We ordered the ribs which turned out to be just two small, and very dried out ribs. Also the salt and pepper calamari which, although fresh, was brought to the table warm and thus all pieces stuck together; the deviled eggs (3 halves) which were average at best and lastly the flat bread which was pretty good, but again served slightly warm. We did enjoy a couple of the craft cocktails. Atmosphere was fun, and the servers were great.

Didn't live up to other reviews I had read.......

By Lynn H |

As a birthday dinner we were expecting a good, tasty dinner, but were highly disappointed both with service and taste and quality of the food. Even the service was lackluster.....EXCEPT for the busboy who kept our water filled and our plates cleared at all times. Atmosphere very hip and enjoyable but it went down hill from there. Cheese plates came with such minute pieces of cheese that they were barely visible and the eggplant appetizer, after asking the waiter what was in it....came with an unexpected and unwanted dose of fish! Carpaccio was the most unappealing brown color, tortellinis were cold and so tough we had to cut with a knife which is not what we like in a pasta! Finally the very pricey steak dinner came after all other meals served and was cold at that! Just not worth the price tag or the previous reviews. Very disappointing......

Breakfast was meh.

By PuppyjiveOregon |

We both had the chicken and waffles, so this is really a review of one item on the breakfast menu (to be fair). My wife and I found the atmosphere very nice, the restaurant being on the ground floor corner of the Paramount Hotel, with a beautiful use of rough cut lumber, probably reclaimed. The service was ok at best, we were one of the only tables occupied and coffee and water service could have been better, but it wasn't horrible by any means. The food was satisfactory, although the chicken was overdone for my taste and neither of us found it to be especially flavorful. Overall, I'd only go back for the sake of convenience while staying at the Paramount, and I'd try something different to give the place a fair shake.

A Whole Lot of Fun!

By Melanie J |

Swine Moonshine and Whiskey Bar was really busy for a Wednesday night! It is beautiful inside with a natural wood edged bar, an array of American whiskey drinks, their reclaimed authentic still, and an extensive whiskey list. For a snack, we had their delicious chicken liver mousse served with house mustard, house pickles, and nuts, along with divine Vieux Carrés made by good-natured barkeep Aaron. Swine was one of our favorite downtown Portland stops!

Slightly sub par hotel restaurant. Food is average at best and uninspired. Go elsewhere for inventive cusine

By David S |

First, the environment is very nice. Staff is friendly and service is good. The menu looked interesting but everything we had was B- at best. Pork chop was overcooked and lacked flavor. Glaze was nice but it was the only flavor in the dish. Polenta served with the chop was good once it was salted with pepper added. Heirloom tomato salad with nectarines had too few nectarines and all the tomatoes were underripe. Dressing was flavorless. Truffle Mac&Cheese was also under flavored. After salt and pepper it was still not worth finishing. Bloody mary, from mix, was not worth finishing. Wife and I split a meal and left food on the table. If you are staying at the paramount hotel and need something easy you'll expected hotel restaurant quality meal. Simply put, 100's of better choices in Portland for fine dining. Again, staff was super nice.

Relaxed Casual Atmospehere

By Lon P |

We enjoyed Swank & Swine....good service, good drinks and wine list, deviled eggs really good and just overall atmosphere was nice. If you like whiskeys they have a pretty large selection.

Very Good - Other than the wine list

By PDXMichael |

We had never been to this restaurant before, mainly put off by the name! We took advantage of the “Dine Out Downtown Month” to try it. After this very good experience we may try it again on the regular menu. We were going to the Oregon Symphony and so made a reservation for when they opened at 5:00 PM. This may have been our only mistake as there were many people doing the same thing, and it took about 15 minutes to get the glasses of wine we ordered as aperitifs. After that, it was very good because the food was excellent, and also the service was – especially from Bernard. We both had the Indian spiced potato fritter that was almost out of this world. The main courses were also very good - Rockfish and Cannelloni. As a European born wino, I found the wine list over-priced and somewhat boring. When we plan to go again I’ll inquire about their corkage price – assuming they allow you to bring your own. I rarely take my own wine and much prefer to support restaurants with reasonable priced and interesting wine lists. Unfortunately for our palates, this restaurant failed in this area.

Happy Hour is very good as are the appetizers

By William S |

A very vice, quality and inexpensive. Comfortable, warm place. Good, intelligent bartender. Pork sliders pervect. Charred belly, nicely prepared. . Crab won tons, good. Deviled eggs are tasty. .

Great Happy Hour Delicious

Great Happy Hour Delicious Food - we started at Swine on Cocktails & met the kids at Swank for dinner. Well looked after - I had the Salmon which was perfect, finished with port & a nibble of the kids desserts!

Wow!

This is truly the place to visit. Great food, excellent food and a great staff. This is a true gem in the heart of Portland down town. Thank you!

Overall Disappointing

By Sean C |

Arrived for a 1pm reservation. Venue was probably 60% full. It was a first time visit for myself and my wife, and not seeing any seating signage we weren't sure if it was Wait To Be Seated or a Seat Yourself routine. We stood at entry for several minutes and were clearly sighted by several different staff from across the room, but we were not acknowledged in any way or given any indication (even a hand gesture) if we should simply sit down or that someone would be with us shortly. After several minutes of being ignored I went over to the corner of the bar (which seemed to be the staff hovering area) and asked if it was a Seat Yourself routine or did we need to wait to be seated. The response was that they were trying to sort out for a large group. (Note that the 'large group' were in fact not even there at this time.) I was then kind of left just standing there wondering where any hint of an answer to my question was in that response. I was happy to react accordingly to their seating policy - I just didn't know what it was. Even after asking! Eventually one of the 2-3 staff discussing the as-yet-not-present-large-group issue grabbed some menus and lead us to a table. Next came the pouring of some glasses of water at the table. Typically a simple undertaking. Except this water had to be poured from (literally) almost 2 feet above the top of the glass! The first glass filling was successful, but unfortunately the 2nd glass filling was not. Just pour some water in the glass without the Cirque De Soleil-esque effect please. Wife ordered the Baked Eggs and the yolks very quickly revealed themselves as being quite hard and completely dried out. Caught the manager as he passed by our table and showed him and (as we were a little pressed for time) asked if they could be replaced with 2 poached eggs. He was more than happy to accommodate this. Manager then duly returned with the poached eggs just as our waitstaff lady was returning to our table for the FIRST time. When we told her what had happened her response was "The chef always does that to the baked eggs." Hmm...probably the sort of thing that should be said to the chef (so he can fix it), and not to the customer. We were left wondering if that was supposed to make it ok because the chef always does that? Other elements of our order were adequate, but the overall experience was one which left us feeling that we really didn't need to return in the future.

Try these venues - you'll like it.

By Dr-Zach |

Great hospitality and service, great food and variety of beverages at reasonable prices. Cannot say enough about the quality of staff. So very friendly and helpful.

Buzzy bar with food

By piglette777 |

Great bar with lots of atmosphere. They do a limited menu of quite simple food, but it is very good, and inexpensive. Great service, good choice of beers, and some wines. Well worth a visit.

Superb venue

By timcW8444QZ |

We went to this restaurant on an off chance and were well pleased with the outcome. Actually, we went twice in the week we were in Portland, the second occasion being an official function. The first, when we were on our own, was far better. The food, fish, was great as was the wine. The total bill, including the tip, was about $160. Although this is pricey for two people, we came away feeling it had been worth the money. Highly recommended!

Delicious breakfast @ Swank and Swine

By diplaskow |

My husband and I had breakfast this morning @ Swank and Swine and were pleasantly surprised at the ample portions served us. I ordered the egg and sausage entree with fruit which included 2 mini donuts which were delicious. My husband ordered the oatmeal which was a pretty large portion also. The food was fresh and delicious.

Good, but uneven

By Aurora M |

I had an amazing meal at Swank a month ago...everything was perfect...service, food, everything. Tonight? The service is still terrific but the very same dishes I ordered last time were misses...the oysters a little too much on the lukewarm side, the Brussels sprouts burned, the cauliflower and little gem salad sloppily made. I'll blame Trevor Noah who is performing down the street and may have caused an unexpected rush. And I will come back to try again, because the first time was great.

Unique experience!

By beautea97 |

Sat outside and enjoyed happy hour appetizers will tasting libations from this 'moonshine & whiskey bar'... Great experience, people watching was fantastic :-) Our server, Mae gave excellent suggestions, food a bit pricey for portion sizes...

Cocktails and Snacks after the Timbers game

By Hawaii96793 |

Stopped at the “Swine” part of the business for some chilled adult beverages after the Timbers game last Sunday and were pleasantly surprised. Cool looking place, pleasant service, good snacks and really good cocktail selection (with Moonshine please). We’ll spend more time there at our next visit to PDX

After show drinks

By ceceliainDC |

We stopped in for some late food and a drink after a show at the Schnitz. The service was prompt even though they were pretty busy. The place was a little too boisterous but we could still hear each other well enough. Had the pork ribs and deviled eggs which were both good.

Disappointing dinner.

By littleshopper8374 |

My husband and I stopped at the Swank for dinner after the lighting of the Christmas Tree in Pioneer Square. When we arrived we were promptly seated, near the door but next to the fireplace. It was acceptable since we had no reservations and it was reasonably busy. The service was good, the menu was very limited. I had the steak, which was a hard piece of meat, cooked as requested, but it was difficult to cut and chew. I had to ask for a steak knife, they had no A1 Steak sauce. The $34 steak had no vegetables or sides, just a lump of garlic, who eats a full head of garlic? I'm not talking about a little "clove" of garlic, but the whole head of garlic, grilled. I ordered a salad, which was disappointing, when I took a bite, the dressing tasted "fishy" then, I noticed a piece of sardine or some sort of uncooked fish among the lettuce, the cost of the side salad was $10 or $12 dollars. If you're going to have a raw sardine on a salad it should be mentioned on the menu. Now, I know why they had available tables on such a busy evening. My husband and I eat out quite often and frequent many restaurants in Portland and surrounding areas. We are not usually deterred by the cost of meal when the food and service is excellent, but that was the not the case here. I won't be back and I won't recommend this place to my friends.

Excellent happy hour small plates

By Michael C |

From 4 to 6:30 they have a happy hour menu for both food and drinks. The drinks are about $4 cheaper than at other times, the food about $2. We had 6 small plates between 3 adults and it was enough food. We ordered the swine dip twice it was so good. The calamari was also excellent. I heartily recommend. BTW, swank is the restaurant, swine is the bar.

Tasty!

By Nancy D |

Reasonably priced, very good food, really friendly wait staff. (It is FREEZING cold inside - take a sweater!!!)

Wonderful ..I wouldn't miss it!

By Jo L |

The Paramount Hotel's gem, Swank & Shine. We visited the Swank side, after 7PM sat at the bar and were hosted by the excellent service of our bartender Austin. The menu of the cocktails are amazing and very unique. There is also a great selection of wines, and I was suggested the Cape Mantelle, Savignon Blanc from Australia; it was fantastic to pair with the following dishes: Beef Tartare (Great presentation, perfect amount of garnishes, with an innovative very thin crunchy bread) Pacific Oysters (Order three of them, delicate batter on fantastic large oysters, delicious tarrago creamy sauce, topped with tiny squares of green apple) wow! Salmon Crudo (Wonderful presentation, black radish slices, a type of tartare, garnished with unique chip) ootw -out of this world! Washington Mussels (So good, perfect amount of mussels, delicious broth topped with baguette) Love the decoration, simplicity and earth elements, great ambience, during no rush hours with supreme and attentive service. We are ready to go back and try he Swine for dinner :)

Swank or Swine...Your Choice!

By cbjsks |

This is actually two places. Swank on one side of the excellent Paramount Hotel is a fantastic restaurant. Go with whatever the chef is experimenting with that day. I had halibut poached in olive oil one time that knocked my taste buds for a loop. It is more formal and has great service. Try breakfast there with country potatoes cooked with duck fat! The other side is the less formal Swine. Modeled with a speakeasy sort of theme the bartenders there will take care of you. If you have any desire for whiskey tasting you must go there. They even have Pappy Van Winkle. The food is a less formal menu but comes out of the same kitchen as Swank so the quality is very high. It far surpasses your standard bar menu in choices and taste. In a town of quality bar experiences this is one of our top choices.

Classic Portland vibe

By George Y |

The Swank restaurant and Swine bar in the Paramount hotel are classic examples of Portland nightlife and fare. Trendy but slack. Upscale but down home. You can drink moonshine at Swine and eat locally sourced delicacies at Swank. Friendly service and patrons.

Good food and drink

By pdxballard |

Two sides of this restaurant in the lower floor of the Paramount hotel. I had breakfast on one side and it was good. The eggs were perfect over easy and the grilled toast was awesome. The bacon and duck fat potatoes were ok. Good service both times. I wouldn't recommend the fruit side as it was only so so. Dinner on the other side was a burger and fries. Great burger and plentiful but so so fries. Nice selection of premium alcohol and I'm a sucker for single malt scotch. A bit on the Downey side but very tasty. Service was ok, had to ask twice for some condiments. There are so many options in Portland all within a short walk. I'd say if you are staying at the hotel give it s try based on convenience.

Excellent food, service and ambiance!

By TravelinThompsons |

I met a group of ladies here for a business lunch and it was perfect. We enjoyed our meal immensely, the service was outstanding and the ambiance was very conducive to our business discussions. It would also be a place I'd bring out of town guests to really enjoy the flavors of Portland. It's located in a fun part of Portland where there is plenty to do before or after your meal. I easily found a parking garage within a couple of blocks - it was a little pricey but that is par for the area.

Rustic decor vibe sophisticated menu

By Shirley C |

I had the beef short ribs which is one of my favorite dishes, so I was really looking forward to it. However, it did not live up to my hopes I'm afraid. I'm used to the meat so tender it just fell off the bone but this was fatty and tough in spite of supposed being cooked for 48 hours (not sure that is a good thing). Hopefully this was just a case of not such good meat.

Our BEST meal in Portland!

By rodnak |

All our food was amazing! Service was A++! I had the duck breast, my wife the scallops over pork belly, and we split the Brussels Sprouts with bacon and Feta. OUTSTANDING!

Super fun for meals and drinks

By tourismteach |

Two separate venues within the one hotel. Swank provides a great range of mid-priced meals. The staff are great fun, the atmosphere is very laid back. Quite a noisy venue but that's part of its charm. Our large group sat in the Chef's alley/gallery area - we got caught up in the noise, excitement and energy. Swine, the bar across the lobby, is super fun. Many different seating options, informed service, again its noisy but it is a great venue for a group. Both are located in the lobby of The Paramount Hotel on SW Taylor. The package of hotel offerings, bar and restaurant are superb!

Great food and friendly easygoing vibe

By Paul McDowell |

A party of us dropped in on chance for dinner and were accommodated at a high table that was perfect. Nice friendly staff with great attitude, it’s a smart contemporary decor. Really well cooked wild salmon with sides of roasted beetroot and radicchio salad. The beetroot was fabulous. With a little assistance, chose a super Oregon Pinot Noir. This place serves sensible sized portions and definitely worth another visit

Good Service & An Interesting Menu

By CollegeDadFor2 |

We were in town for two nights to visit family and found the Swank & Swine to be a good choice for good food and a nice atmosphere. The menu is varied & broad, with lots to choose from. Our server was excellent and our food came out quickly and exactly as ordered. I would recommend the Swank & Swine if you are in Portland and would like an accessible fine dining experience.

Staff are the key ingredient.....

By Mike H |

…at any restaurant that wishes to be remembered, fondly or otherwise. Two walk-ins last Saturday night now have fond memories, not just of well prepared and presented dishes, timely served and delicious, but of a team of staff who clearly worked well together, listened to the guests, thought about things and were, above all, helpful. The sommelier was knowledgeable and instructive without being patronising and in such a way that the next day we visited both the wineries that had produced the bottles he had recommended, and bought lots to take home. Thank you.

Great atmosphere and good food

By Traci S |

For downtown Portland this restaurant is one of the few that actually fill you up for lunch. Not only a lovely restaurant with great service but a health portion. I had a generous Cobb Salad and expected the usual Portland miniature salad but this was great! My friend had the classic club and had good portions too! Not what you expect for a very nice restaurant! Cheers to Swank!

The choices are overwhelming

By Stephanie B |

We ate at the Swine whiskey bar. My husband loves whiskey. The choices are overwhelming. Our drinks were served promptly along with tasty food. With the weather so bad, it was nice to be able to eat in a nice hotel restaurant.

Second Happy Hour Experience

By spirit_8 |

Our first visit a month or so ago wasn't great and I posted my comments. The manager contacted me, apologizing for our experience and asking us to please try it again. We were there for happy hour last week and ordered many of the same choices as before. This time the calamari was terrific, ribs juicy. Also had the pork dip and it was terrific. The service, (as before) was great. We'll definitely return.

Best hotel bar

By ek l |

Swank and Swine are two different bars- I went to Swine. Swine is full of great food- I would say bar food done by an adventurous chef who cares about putting out great product- and great drinks- like the many local beers I tested. They also have Pappy's if you're looking to really splurge. The bartender that served me both times I visited, Aaron, was lovely, remembered my name and drink and went out of his way to make sure I had a great experience. At one point he walked over to Swank to get a beer for me that Swine didn't have. Try the chicken sliders. They are delicious.

Nice, locally-sourced downtown Portland restaurant

By ColoAvsPuckhead |

Went here with friends visiting from out of town who were staying in a downtown hotel, so this was easily accessible by walking. Went for an early dinner about 6 o’clock and we were seated promptly on a Saturday. Ambiance was quiet yet casual, and the staff was very friendly. The menu was diverse with something that appealed to everyone in the group of 4 - from burger to seafood. Everyone liked their chosen entree after we started with a cheeseboard initially. Food was well-prepared and presented with reasonable portions sizes. Prices were reasonable. Would definitely recommend.

Swank before the symphony

By fruitloopfriends |

Friendly check-in person gave us a choice of table or booth. Wait person offered beverages and noted that we had symphony plans at 7:30. I had rockfish and companion had wild boar rigatoni. Both were delicious and generous portions. Service was great and we were on our way in plenty of time.

Highs and lows

By 80leandras |

Had a couple of meals here, as it was easy to get to (being close to our AirBnB) Nice atmosphere, pretty typical pub menu with a few twists. They are a bit inconsistent with the food quality. One meal was great, while the next was slow to come out, lackluster in flavor (they seem to LOVE covering everything in sauce) and just sort of ho-hum. Drink options are good, some novel cocktails that were refreshing during the warm summer evenings. If you can catch them on a good day, its worth the visit.

What a great way to "Swank" your Day!!!

By Mimi90271 |

Breakfast is and has always been my favorite meal of the day; it pretty much sets the stage for my tummy's happiness. I guess you could say I'm a picky eater. I love a good cup of tea - starts with boiling water - eggs that are cooked right when I ask for soft scrambled and great service! Swank delivered on all points. My daughter went in hard on the chicken and waffles, and I had french toast with soft scrambled eggs; both cooked to perfection. We had a window seat, great music in the background, and a server who took pride in her job We totally enjoyed our meal before heading out to the Rose Garden. What a great way to start today ... I highly recommend that you put a little Swank in your step and give them a visit; you will not be disappointed.

Great Food and a crazy good Bar

By Mark R |

Had a great meal, the bacon and eggs(pork belly and poached egg) then spent some time with Katelyn the bartender who is more than great. Well worth the visit with all the food choices in Portland.

Swank Burger W/fries & a Cock N Bull

By Joewashere2 |

Had the swank burger prepared med-rare house grind,‏ truffle aioli, cave aged gruyere, bacon, arugula, pretzel bun with fries and a ginger beer. If you looking for a good burger in the area, stop by.

Happy Hour Anyone?

By April |

We stopped in for an early happy hour drink and munchies. Drinks are a bit speedy for happy hour prices. Several small food dishes to choose, but again a bit pricey. We had the deviled eggs, pork chop and chicken sliders. All were delicious. The place started filling up quickly so it's fairly popular. Parking on the street or a nearby garage is very close.

Disappointed

By Nikki S |

The food was good. Service was the worst we had wile visiting Portland. We ate there for a late lunch. 6 people in the restaurant ...could not get a drink refill even after asking for it. Waitress was rude and acted put out because we were there.

Skip the dinner - Stay at the Bar!

By Katie M |

Swank and Swine are two split venues within the same hotel. Swank is an upscale eatery while Swine is the low-key bar. Friends and I started at Swine and had a fantastic round of drinks. I highly suggest the Endless Summer - amazing. My friend also loved the Portland Proper. They have small plates here, and in retrospect I am sad we didn't just stay at Swine and drink and try the small plates, which looked fantastic. Swank on the other side of the lobby was more of a disappointment. The menu looked good, but I found the food to be lacking in flavor and imagination. My roast chicken was simple and not overcooked - points for that - however, the truffle mac it came on top of was extremely bland. All of which was served on a dish made for a giant, which in my opinion was not a good look for the restaurant as the food seemed small comparatively. My dining companions had the pork chop (good review), salmon (solid) and burger (meh) so perhaps I had the saddest dish of the bunch. Either way I'd say save your time and some cash and spend your evening in Swine if you are venturing this way.

A good choice for dinner in the Arts District

By 2bits2go |

Went to a group dinner prior to a symphony. Had a very good appetizer and main course. All others at the table were enjoying the meal as well. A bit spendy, but worth it.

Great lunch specials - and awesome "Lion's Tails"

By Roboduckie |

Great setting in both, and I loved the lunch menu - light but filling and of course tasty. If you're a Whiskey connoisseur, you'll love Swine. I'm not, but fell in love with a recommended drink called the Lion's Tale. There's something there for every taste. Enjoy!

Delicious

By travelinjep |

We were here for a meeting downtown and went to dinner w some friends afterwards. We were able to make a reservation, which cannot be accomplished at every restaurant in Portland. The service was knowledgeable, friendly, and effective. The food was delicious. We especially enjoyed the foie gras, charred beets, esquites, pork tenderloin and scallops. The hand-crafted cocktails were also good and they had some excellent wine choices at reasonable prices. Would definitely go here again. Its a cheerfully loud atmosphere, but not so loud that you can't hear conversation.

Great food

By Morgan |

I was able to get room service while staying at the Paramount with Swank & Swine. Their food is excellent! I highly recommend the bacon cheeseburger and fries. They also have great fountain Coke. I will return.

Surprisingly sophisticated

By Bill T |

On the way to the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall we decided on a early dinner. At 5:00pm sharp, we were the first through the doors and garnered a corner table adjascent to the "Taylor Street" sign (they did not upcharge us for this :-) ). Marco was our server and was quite attentive. We had wonderful starters, Pork Tenderloin, a bottle of red and a to-die-for dessert. The food was not mainstream, instead very creative with creative sides and sauces. Very comfy at night with plenty of street corner people watching through the large windows. The food and service are very good. Conveniently located near our downtown Hilton Hotel and "The Schnitz" we killed 3 birds with one stone.

Very good menu, cozy and nice ambiance!

By D i |

Nice bar, high-top and regular seating and a nice walk from one of the Hilton Hotels. My husband very much liked his cocktail, Baby Gem which was pretty much a Caesar), his entree (grilled flatiron) and wine selection. The Mary's Roasted Half Chicken was excellent, small but tasty and filling! A nice extensive wine list.

awesome bar for bourbon with great snacks

By Greg T |

Couldn't resist trying this place just based on the name. We went to the bar side, Swine, and never made it to the restaurant. A huge bourbon selection with make your own Manhattan/Old Fashioned where you can pick your own vermouth and bitters. Had the Swine Dip, Calamari and duck egg rolls and all were delicious. Oh, they have a good selection of beer also, but everyone in Portland does. This is for bourbon lovers!

Swine for Happy Hour

By Frannyt3e |

Really enjoyed myself. Met son and DIL here when vacationing with daughter. It was actually hot out, and we had time before the Timbers game started so we stopped by for a round. The place is cozy; we sat at a table with leather sofa and matching chairs; the wait was short although the place was fairly busy. Servers were very nice. We placed our drink orders along with a side of "Spuds." Soon our Blue Bark Rickey, Endless Summer and Farmers Market along with son's craft brew were brought out...simply amazing potions, and at $6/drink there was a nice surprising kick to boot. Each cocktail had a subtle uniqueness all their own, but all delicious in their own right. Appreciate that my drink contained locally sourced heirloom tomats and basil. Kudos on the recipes!! :) So tasty and refreshing, we had a second round! The Spuds, just wow...a pile of perfectly fried French fries with sublime white, meaty gravy, topped with pickled onions and sweet red peppers. Although I would have liked a bit more of that hefty gravy, we enjoyed them down to the last drop of gravy...simply that divine. Gotta love HH menus. :) The bar itself is located at the corner entrance to the Paramount Hotel; very cozy, tasteful urban furnishings they are on a corner, with nice windows for people watching; a couple of TVs, and great 'keeps' behind the bar. I took off one star only because the "facilities" are a floor down, and you need a code from hotel staff for entry. Still a great place to scarf and imbibe for HH. Definitely recommend.

Drinks and Dessert!

By CARLYE P |

The bartender and his Manhattans were fabulous. The desserts were worth every calorie. Inbetween the service and the food were fine, but nothing special. Will go back for sure pre &/or post-theater

Creative Seasonally Changing Menu with Good Vegetarian Options

By rickpoet |

Another dinner stop on our vacation in Portland brought us to Swank Restaurant in the Paramount Hotel, not be confused with “Swine”, their sister whiskey bar across the hall. (Actually no-one said they were sisters…they could be cousins.) They serve small plates, entrees and cheese. (And to be clear the small plates have food on them.) I started with the Strawberry and Tomato Gazpacho (without the halibut it came with), dressed with sungold and marigold flowers. This had and unusual flavor that took some getting used to but the sweet and the tomato blended together nicely. The flower leaves also added another nice unique flavor. This was a seasonal offering and I see on today’s menu online they have a Red Kuri Squash Soup which sounds phenomenal and gives a good indication that this place’s seasonally changing menu is worth coming back to. I also had a side of Tater Tots. Let’s be honest here…if you’re going to have tots on your menu, I’m going to go ahead and order them. These were doctored up with smoked onion and wild blackberry mustard. These were really good tots…crispy on the outside and a unique, nothing like frozen texture and taste on inside. The blackberry mustard had an almost horseradish vibe…a little overpowering after a while, but it was good in moderation. I kept eating the tots on their own as they were really good. For my main I had the (also seasonal) Local Foraged Mushroom Stroganoff. This was a fresh pappardelle with Hen of the Woods mushrooms and Creme Freche. I didn’t love this. The “fresh” pappardelle was too al dente and the sauce was a little too tart. I liked the wine ambiance of it but it was too much. The mushrooms on their own with the sauce were good. My wife had the Green Salad with Goat Cheese. It was overall tasty but felt it was overdressed and made the lettuce soggy quickly. The goat cheese was on the rim and around the inside of bowl and was really tasty. And why not add a cheese offering too…we’re on vacation after all. I had the goat cheese with rhubarb leather, sweet crunchy hazelnut crumbles, and pickled rhubarb. This was really good and one can see why cheese is offered as a dessert option on sensible menus. They had a few other vegetarian sides available…more cheese offerings, and a chocolate dessert that looked phenomenal. (And as I mentioned as of this writing the seasonal menu has changed and there’s a completely different vegetarian pasta offering so it’s well worth revisiting this menu as the seasons change. For the gluten free inclined, they offered flax seed crackers asa bread offering and to accompany the cheese.

Decent hotel restaurant.

By rickjurewicz |

We ate here our first night at the hotel. I had seared duck breast my girlfriend had their chicken breast, mine was OK, hers was much better. Not too impressed. Check out the Swine bar across the lobby, over 200 different whiskies.

Grilled zucchini custard! Inventive and delicious food

By watsonborn |

I was recently in Portland for a conference and ate at Swank three times: dinner, lunch and breakfast. Each meal had a good-sized but not overwhelming selection and everything was well-prepared and really good. Some standouts from each meal: 1. The zucchini custard, which we tried on the general principle that something that sounded sort of absurd deserved a taste. Really really good, with lovely accompaniments - all sorts of textures and flavors bopping around our mouths. 2. Grilled cheese and a truly beautiful tomato soup at lunch, accompanied by very fine fries. 3. Baked eggs with grits. 'Nuff said. Good wine selection, fantastic cocktails (I had a Vieux-Carré), lots of good draft beers and a very large whiskey list. And don't forget to cross the hall and go to Swine - great drinks, and good happy hour specials.

Okay bar

By aztraveler62 |

Went there twice for drinks in one night. Went for happy hour and then returned after having dinner elsewhere. Drinks were interesting on the menu but did not come together well once made. I think the bartenders who made up the drinks did not really think it through. The service was okay but nothing special. When a bar knows that most of its customers are tourist, they should really be trying harder. Would not go out of my way to return.

Decent food, lots of errors on the part of wait staff

By Anna S |

I had breakfast here twice while staying at the adjoining hotel. They are supposed to give you 10% off when you are a hotel guest, but the wait staff did not apply despite the fact that we charged it to our room. Wait staff also made multiple errors on the bill, which is why we decided not to have her redo it a third time to apply the missing 10% off. Don't get the huevos racheros, very strange and not at all authentic (coming from a native Texan). Eggs benedict were pretty good. Coffee had been sitting around for a while, complimentary donuts do NOT need that lemon glaze. Expensive for what it is and level of service.

The Swine is First Class

By Gary |

Went to the Swine bar for $5 cocktail week, on a Wednesday! Went with a friend & spent about 2 hours here. Great decor, friendly & upscale suit & dress crowd! Definitely will return!

Average Food & Service

By Lori M |

Stayed at the Paramount Hotel (also average at best) and had breakfast at Swank and drinks at Swine. Both had decent food and average servcie. Not impressed with the entire setup there.

Fenette, really!

By David G |

My wife and I visited Portland in October and stayed at the Paramount Hotel. We had several breakfasts and a lunch in the Swank restaurant right there in the hotel. The very first thing my wife noticed was the Fenette linen napkins!!! Anyway, our lunch salads were excellent, and we had a couple of breakfasts there that were wonderful. I really enjoy grits, and they had a breakfast that had grits, coddled eggs, and pulled pork - I was in heaven. They also bring fresh donuts to your table with breakfast!! I would go there even if I wasn't staying at the hotel!!!

Excellent food

By JenInPDX |

Well prepared, creative flavor profiles with being overly complicated. A must stop for breakfast. Service was thoughtful. French toast was excellent.

Great experience!

By FAwife |

Located in the downtown Paramount Hotel, this place has friendly service and tasty eats. I ordered a Kir Royale (not on the menu) to drink and the server was unfamiliar with it, but she went the extra mile to figure it out so the bartender could make me one…and it was perfect! We ordered the burger, Caesar salad, and cheese dessert and everything was delicious. I especially appreciate a Caesar that is not overdressed and this fit the bill. Truly a great experience - we will definitely return when we are in Portland again!

Chef's Ally is Amazing

By Scott P |

I scheduled a private dinner for my wife's birthday, and Rita and the team at Swank knocked it out of the park! This was a surprise to my wife and the crew pulled it off flawlessly. The food was amazing and having the small private area to eat almost made it feel like a private room, but still connected to the overall vibe of the restaurant. The chef came out to check on us and everyone was thrilled.

Great food & Atmosphere

By Frank B |

My sister and I had dinner here October 30th. The service was amazing and so was the food. We shared the hamburger and they were gracious enough to cut it in half and create two meals. The drinks were soooo good and we loved the Sangria!! Highly recommend eating here and having some drinks.

Tasty food in a cool setting

By sulu215 |

Fine dining with friendly staff; what more could you want. The Briar Rose chèvre, chimichurri, radish salad is large enough to share and tasty enough to remember it the next day. I would love to have the recipe for the sea scallops with fresh creamed corn mixed with bacon and Hood River peach bbq. They have a full bar and the dessert menu is small but definitely adequate. We are definitely returning

Nice for Happy Hour

By J E |

They have an EXCELLENT happy hour here! So, I stopped in for that and to see what their cocktails were all about. Service was excellent, very friendly and helpful. The venue is beautiful, with timber throughout and stave bar stools. They offer quite a bit for happy hour, all at decent prices. Their chips and fondu was excellent! Their Ricky Sue cocktail was nicely done. Stop in and enjoy happy hour… maybe more!

Swine Bar

By A M |

This was a great place to be! One of my friends was visiting from out of town and we ended up here after a recommendation from the bartender at another place. We absolutely loved it! There was a great atmosphere! Christian was the bartender and his friendliness to everyone extended to the rest of the people. I'd recommend it to everyone!

Fantastic meal, really creative solid menu

By tsimmons2 |

My husband and I loved this restaurant and bar. We walked here from the Hilton and so glad we did. What great food and really creative menu. I had the duck for dinner and it was DELICIOUS. Big wine selection, great appetizers. Try the crab wontons, they were fabulous.

Upscale experience at Swank, downtown pub feel at Swine

By 2Historybuffs |

We've eaten a Swine a few times after finding unique pub food(smoked chèvre dip, garlic fry bread, tasty salads) with some Happy Hour deals. This is downtown Portland, 1 block from the Schnitzer and South Park Blocks. You know it isn't cheap. But even on a budget you can find something delectable as you enjoy your downtown excursions. This week we ate at Swank for the first time. Small portions, somewhat pricey. But the food was incredible! Every luscious bite reminded us why we were paying extra to be here. Honestly, whenever you crave a creative meal designed with great culinary skill, you should think about trying Swank. Just remember to save up for this special experience. PS We ordered 3 plates (for 2 people) and left satisfied with a bill of about $50, plus tip.

Quiet Friday night

By Joleen B |

We had reservations at 6:30 on a Friday night and practically had the place to ourselves. Dinner was good, and the service was outstanding. We took the recommendation of our server for the cocktails and we were not disappointed.

Chic and relaxed

By PaulR |

Classy relaxed bar and eatery with good food, friendly, helpful bar staff and a nice feel about the place.

Very dissapointed

By flor p |

My son and nephew 21y.o celebrations was a disaster. Order the Salad first ,wait for 45 minutes to arrived , We need to ask for Bred and water, The waiter was alone the rest of the waiters were more dedicated to the bar restaurant and not to the Dinner Area. Our Dinner arrived after 1 hour and 45 minutes horrible scallops, Do not order this dish, the kids order the Hamburger at least this was decent. Over price, Not impress at All... For this amount of Money is better to go to el Gaucho or any other place. Not recommended this place at all. We are not planning to come back the Hostess was not friendly at all. Feel bad for the waiters he is the one apologized,

Upscale casual.

By tfizzle |

I like the casual atmosphere of this place, but the well prepared food. Try the swank burger or the zuchini ribbons. GRILLED FLAT IRON with fries is a steal at $18 at lunch.

Nice Ambiance - Great Service

By Claire D |

Coming from the coast, on November 27th I ate there with a good friend of mine before going to the symphony special on Walt Disney. It was my second time eating at Swine, I had first eaten there in January 2020, also pre-Symphony (Chopin concert) and pre-Covid, also a blessing 🙂--with another friend. I had a Kir, not a very usual drink it would appear, but it was very nicely done, just as I like it. My friend and I shared 3 different appetizers. I am normally not a fan of calamari, but the way it was fixed was excellent. The rillettes, although they tasted slightly different from the ones of my growing years in France, were also very tasty . What was different from my native country-- but for exceptions worthy of the name-- a land this septuagenarian left 53 + years ago as a young bride, was the service: I shall never take for granted the quality of service of this country of mine where I have now spent over half a century: Swine Moonshine and Whiskey bar did not disappoint. Liza "with a 'z'--our main server, Quinn, and the two bartenders, Aaron--2 "As" and a "Ron" as he puts it, and Joe are great. I think they all maintain the balance of great service without being obsequious and a genuine friendly dialogue with the patrons. I think the last person who came to inquire how we were doing must have been Brandon, mentioned in other reviews if I remember correctly. And he too followed the same pattern. So kudos to all of them.... I know I know "It's their job,"that's what I would have said when I was doing mine the best I could before blissfully retiring. Yet theirs is a job well done, regardless of how a worker's personal day might be going with its ups and downs as it happens to everyone. Thank you and I hope to return before too long!

Happy hour, mixed reviews

By Walla2traveler |

We stoped on for an adult beverage as it was close to where we were staying. Bloody Marys hit the spot, but found the food so-so! Not bad, but institutional! Burrata plate was meh, burger the same. Love the location and the vibe, the food not so much!

Good place to wait for your movie to start

By Sailing_Sweetie |

We ordered drinks and salt n pepper calamari. We had an hour to burn. Server was prompt and polite. Calamari was crispy and very flavorful.

Great Bar Food

By lisabinnyc |

We checked in to the hotel just before the bar closed yet they were very kind and took good care of us. Our appetizers were delicious.

Good service, ask for recommendations

By Ryan.W |

I was never in Swine, but in Swank, on the alternate side of the Paramount Hotel lobby, I did have the occasion to have two good meals. The breakfast eggs Benedict were great but the potatoes and complimentary Beignet (?) were just okay. But the dinner was exceptionally good. Pork Belly appetizer was amazing , and duck entree equally tasty. Dessert menu was minimal and not that interesting. Worth a try.

Fun stop

By stanandamy |

Enjoyed whiskey flights and appetizers here in the bar. Friendly service. Nice evening stop, quiet on a summer Sunday.

Dinner was good. Breakfast not so much

By Spectre68 |

The scallops for dinner were very nice along with a delicious Pinot Noir. The location in the hotel was certainly a draw on the day of my arrival. Breakfast the next morning was not nearly as good as I would have expected. I ordered the steel cut oatmeal which seemed pretty watery and not made with steel-cut oatmeal. Swine is a good place to get a drink with an extensive selection of domestic and imported whiskey in stock.

Get the chicken sliders!

By Matthew and Lau... F |

OMG! Stopped by after a movie for a bite and a cocktail. The chicken sliders are amazing! Will come back and look for a full sized sandwich!

Put it on your list

By ClintonUSA |

Loved IT. We dined at swank & swine on the 4th of July and we enjoyed every aspect. I absolutely enjoyed the Beef Tartare with quail egg and truffle chips as a starter . And the pork chop, the seared duck breast, and the swank burger as our entrees. I will dine at The swank & Swine restaurant again. I do recommend This restaurant.

Swine food, not so good, but great drinks

By tfizzle |

Went to the Swine bar for a happy hour prior to a show at the Shnitz and while the menu looked inviting, the food and the service dissappointed. The little gems salad was baby romaine and bitter. the burger on the pretzel bun was underseasoned and just bland. The calamari were just a little soggy and not crispy. That said, the drinks were terrific, their version of a bourbon mule was excellent and tasty.

Swank is definitely a treat

By Angel C |

Our family visited as a very large party. The service was excellent and food was amazing. The chicken and pork dumpling appetizer as well as the bone marrow appetizers were delicious. The halibut, hangar steak, and chicken entrees were very good as well. If you get a side try the green beans and charred beets they were favorites of ours. We would definitely return if in the Portland area.

Nice Bar

By wayflos |

We enjoyed a happy hour with George Dickel & an Ellis Island. Great atmosphere during a Friday evening happy hour, and we loved the deviled eggs.

Convenient for theatre audiences

By fftravelers |

Swank and Swine are actually two venues across the lobby from each other in the Paramount Hotel. We ate at the Swank restaurant before attending a show at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - 3 blocks away. Swine is a bar that is known for good whiskey. Food was well prepared and presented although somewhat unimaginative for downtown Portland. My wife had roast chicken and I had grilled scallops. Chicken came with macaroni and cheese and the scallops (3) were accompanied by pork bellies. Service was very good - prompt, helpful, and knowledgeable. Easy walk to several entertainment locations, but make a reservation. They called to ask whether we were attending an event in order to provide quick service. Not necessary as we had prepared and had plenty of time - but we appreciated the gesture.

Good lunch

By QTPai811 |

I came here with my cousin for lunch for the first time and it was really great. The server was attentive and gracious. The food selection was varied with good choices from meat to vegetarian, something good for any palate. Will come again. Thanks Swank & Swine for your wonderful hospitality

Portland Dining Month

By jmmalnati |

Beautiful bar/restaurant....Had a 7:30 reservation and they seated us at 8:00, we were told to go back to the bar (across the hotel lobby-we had already been there prior to dinner) or we could sit in the lobby...no worries we were 4 couples chatting and not in a hurry. Ended up with some of us having drinks in the lobby. It wasn't slamming busy-a few empty tables around. Waiter came around explained menu and the $29 3 course dinner as part of the March Dining Month. I ordered a beverage along with the table ordering appetizers. Drink never came...waiter explained back up at the restaurant bar (remember the other bar is across the lobby). The restaurant bartender was visible from our table and I watched him sip his coke and chat with the manager...some I think forgot my drink. Waiter also forgot and add on to one of our dinners. No biggie it happens. Food was very good for some and not so great for others. The pan seared pork chop tasted like Easter Ham...not a favorite! The desserts were yummy! Now the bad part-check came and they tallied our bill at full price, made the deductions ($29.00 per diner) but calculated the tip on full price food! Our waiter blamed the "computer" and said he could chat with manager to fix it! Please, I have no problem with an automatic gratuity for a party of 8 but basing it on regular retail pricing and hoping we would not notice is stealing. I did not appreciate the inconvenience of having to wait while the manager had to re-ticket us and when I asked for the original bill, waiter brushed me off with a "I can get out my phone and add it up to clear up any confusion". I didn't have any confusion... Obviously they are getting away with this underhanded gratuity calculation, and although they made the adjustment (over $20.00 for our bill) it's stealing and I wonder how many others have been taken. We won't be back, I'll be letting the organizers of March Dinning Month what this establishment is doing.

Swine Review

By J S |

Swine is the lounge and Swank is the restaurant. Swine has Happy Hour from 3 - 530. Really good prices and selection of drinks and food. The Deviled Eggs are devine. There is outdoor seating as well.

Amazing fries, truly beyond fantastic

By TravelGrace |

Great meal before the event at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. One of the best burgers we've ever had, incredible fries, and amazing salad. Very good, friendly service

Root Beer Braised Ribs !

By ScottD58 |

Walked in just as Happy Hour ended at 6:30pm. Saw someone sucking the short ribs and I said to the waitress "I want that!" Grabbed a table on the sidewalk to enjoy the cool evening air and the pedestrian parade. When the ribs came on a bed of collard greens they looked luscious and tasted tremendous! I couldn't identify the flavor so I asked. They're root beer braised short ribs! Yum! BTW, they are $10 bucks at HH and $12 regular price. Highly recommend!

Very Rich Food, Good Cocktails, Slow Service

By junior_traveler |

This restaurant lives up to its name - with swanky cocktails and rich, swine-inspired plates. We had the bacon cheesecake (try it - it is more like a spread, ensure you get some of the tomato jam and roasted garlic - crazy rich but amazingly delicious), and some other swine-inspired appetizers. I also enjoyed the seared tuna salad, which was wonderful (and not too rich, a nice balance to the rich appetizers). The whiskey and bourbon cocktails were lovely. Our server was particularly slow and did put a damper on our experience - with better service, this could be a "4-circle" review.

Busy local spot A favorite

By Cystokid |

Busy local spot A favorite of many Portland folks. On Thanksgiving the limited menu was varied and delicious. We all got something different from the menu. A great evening with great hospitality. Highly recommend this place!

Good food, efficient service

By Michael H |

On vacation, with friends, had good food all around. Nice atmosphere with moderate noise level. Service was efficient, but uninspiring.

Delicious to the last bite or sip.

By marycatherine47 |

Both the restaurant menu and the bar menu are are comprehensive and all items are explained. I addition, the staff is very helpful and ever so personable.

nice place

By solsenzCT |

We went here prior to a concert with friends. The bar has a great atmosphere and happy hour has reasonable prices. Food is good as well. The only thing is there was no room to sit-as there was a big party. Maybe close the place if most of the seating is going to be taken by one big group. We did end up sitting in the lobby and the waitress was nice and helpful but sitting in the lobby trying to eat is a challenge. I'd try again to see if it's different.

Great cocktails

By steely_greg |

Decent bar with great cocktails and cool ambiance. It was nice to have a bar at the hotel we were staying at. The service was great and the whiskey list is extensive. The quality of the food varied. The steak frites and salads were tasty but my chicken sliders were unimpressive. Also, the dessert menu online looked amazing but the actual offerings were very basic. My wife loved the gin and juice cocktail and still won't stop talking about it. The Paramount gives you a $10 food credit to use here but the staff didn't know much about it. This is a good bar but there is room for improvement.

Excellent!

By CGCEugeneOregon |

This place had a lot going…ambiance and really good food! We were seated promptly at a nice table by the window, server was very busy but service was good. The salmon was excellent!

Marvellous brunch on the Centre of Portland

By johnmQ4443SR |

We went looking for brunch in downtown Portland and simply stumbled over the place. We were trying to break in through an emergecny exit which the staff kindly opened to ket us in. THen we enjoyed a high quality brucnh of eggs benedict for me and classic bacon and eggs for my wife along with fresh OJ. Only minor complaint is the OJ while touted as fresh doesn't taste freshly squeezed, but that was minor relative the rest of the meal. Tried it again and had the French toast with maple cream and fruit - mmmmm.

Outdoor seating always enjoyable for a pleasant late afternoon happy hour

By seizetheday212 |

Recently enjoyed happy hour after shopping in Portland. Was able to sit outside to enjoy the nice weather before we settle in for the rainy season. I chose the crab wontons, a salad and enjoyed them both. My husband chose a local beer and had their Swine burger with an order of fries and was also pleased with the quality and portion size. The relaxed atmosphere and warm space is appreciated, and our server was efficient and upbeat. Will definitely return and know that when a cool wet evening is upon us--Swine's warm and inviting space will be appreciated.

The bar, Swank is great. The restaurant, Swine, not so much.

By BLG320 |

The bar in the Paramount Hotel is Swank and it's great. Nice people good drinks. The restaurant in the hotel is Swine and had nice people but the food is not so good.

Solid Dinner Experience

By Rick H |

My wife and I had dinner - drinks and small plates. I wasn't crazy about the poutine, but I'm not used to poutine - I'm sure it's great for those who like that. Regardless they had plenty of other small plates for us to enjoy and we did!

Scrumptious Lunch

By JulesBrie |

Had a fabulous lunch at Swank Restaurant. This was a first time visit. Had an attentive host seat uu, offering several seating options. Our server was kind and attentive. The menu...offers many unique selections from which to choose. The restaurant decoration was very Northwest and so appealing to the eye. I would highly recommend this restaurant a true hidden gem located in the Paramount Hotel.

The best breakfast ever...

By RJK_Chicago |

I am always wary of restaurants too easily accessed from the hotel. This one looked good, but I wasn’t sure. My policy is clearly not a good one since this was the best ever. I ordered a malt waffle and it was clearly the best restaurant waffle I have ever had. It had just enough maple syrup and it came with honey flavored whipped butter. It was amazing. The complimentary doughnuts in a lemon curd sauce were also excellent. Service was great as well.

We don't usually eat in the restaurant but would recommend this place

By IRBDave |

I had just ran the Portland Marathon that morning and just wanted an easy option. We were going to go somewhere else but as we were leaving the Paramount Hotel I checked the Happy Hour specials and decided to give it a try. I ordered the Smooth Sailing and my wife had the You're Killing Me but switched to mine as it was much better. We started with the deviled eggs as I'm following the ketogenic lifestyle and don't eat a lot of carbs. This is a great, no make that a fantastic option for this. After that we had the Devils on Horseback, dates wrapped in bacon. They may just be the best ever appetizer I've ever had, I would have paid twice the price for them. We then ordered the short ribs, another great deal. I then followed them with the Chicken Wings, they were tasty but a little different than I expected. I did cheat at the end of the nigh and ordered the french fries as I needed to have 5,000 calories for the day. They were okay but not on my list. We has a great dinner, drinks for a reasonable price. Go for it.

Not Impressed at all!

By rollingwheel |

Second time here but first time dining for dinner. Atmosphere is warm and comfy. Plenty of time to take it all in after being seated and having to wait over 10 minutes just to be greeted by our server. We ended up ordering our drinks, appetizers, salads and entrees all at once we waited so long! The food started to come out. The appetizer (ahi) was great I.e., preparation, portion size, etc. Then the salads umm, ok I guess. Extremely small portion and really no taste. Then the entree's. Really!? Very small portions. However, I must say the steak (although a low grade, tough slab of meat) was prepared in a way which was very rich and tasty. All in all, not impressed. The service was overall horrible. The food, just ok. Will I choose to dine here again? No.

Excellent food and service

By SteveCWC |

We came with a group of people and ordered ribs and steaks and al seafood dishes they have on the menu. Wines and beers are also excellent! Service people do know how to pick wines that go with your food. Price is about $28-50 for your entrée. Atmosphere is nice for group dinner and also good for private couple. 牛排和海鮮選項是我們此行的超級推薦!每道菜色都說極致美味和好看,足見廚師的用心。 如果你不知道怎麼選酒配你的餐點,服務人員很懂得如何幫你搭配你的餐酒。不妨試試看。

Great appetizers

By kathys1209 |

Sat outside and enjoyed happy hour appetizers. Food was awesome service was outstanding. Server suggestions were excellent. We sat outside people watching which was quite amusing.

Great cocktails

By falafelraptor |

We had some great moonshine-based cocktails here, didn't order any food though. The first time we went they asked to see our passports as Canadian drivers licences wouldn't cut it, but we didn't have our passports with us. The second time a different server didn't ask for passports and accepted our licenses.

Walks like a duck, must be a duck

By Linnbada |

Came here for breakfast and was not disappointed. We had excellent service in a relaxed setting. While we waited for our entrees we were offered complimentary donuts. They were okay, the best part was the lemon curd drizzle. Husband had the standard breakfast with bacon (boring). I had the duck confit hash and it was incredible. It was loaded with duck, sautéed peppers and onions and the egg cooked perfectly. It definitely was anything but boring and I would eat here just for the hash.

Good Breakfast

By Ballyhooter |

This was the hotel we were staying in (The Paramount) restaurant so convenience led us here. Nice surprise - excellent breakfast dishes and service. If we were staying longer I would have returned for dinner as they really had some nice twists on breakfast.

Best small plate apps list in the city.

Great cocktails in Swine but by far the reason to go is the menu. 3-6pm happy hour makes this place attractive for sure but the food itself is worth paying full price for. Smoked cheese fondue with smoked sausage, Poutine, pulled pork and cilantro cream cheese dip, pork belly and deviled eggs, great brisket sliders, duck spring rolls, the list goes on and on. All very tasty. Worth a visit. The staff are great our waitress was exceptional. Don't think that this is the usual hotel lobby bar. Fantastic food.

Good calamari

By Jonathan L |

The intention was to stay for dinner but somehow it turned into just drinks and appetizers. Both the ahi tuna and calamari were absolutely delicious. What I found annoying is the hipster trend of serving cocktails in itty-bitty quaint glasses like the ones that were used in the 1920s. Service was very nice and attentive in that laid back Portland kind of way.

Chicken and Waffle Breakfast...FANTASTIC!!!

By Mark N |

I stayed at the Paramount Hotel on Aug, 27 2016. Located just off the lobby is the Swank and Swine. The Swank is the restaurant, and the Swine is the bar. We ate breakfast Sunday morning at the Swank. I had the Chicken and Waffle breakfast. It was simply delicious. Great moist fried chicken and a delicious light waffle with a dollop of whip cream on it. To die for!!! Prices were very reasonable. The wait staff was very good. They were friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. My wife and I would eat here again without question. Would like to try dinner next time.

A wonderfully warm place to dine

By Pat T |

May I say up front, this restaurant perhaps is "not for everyone". It is a little pricey. It is in a hotel. It IS in downtown and there ARE street people around. On the positive and wonderful side? The food is wonderful. We ordered 4 meals for our table of four and everyone's meal was tasty. These are not the huge "American sized" portions, but they are fine dining portions and filling. (NONE of us were hungry after the meal). I ordered the ribs and without starters, it filled me up. The pre-dinner drinks were made to perfection from scratch (I ordered a whiskey sour and the waiter asked if I wanted an Irish or Canadian whiskey - - THAT, my friend, is DETAIL). The desserts are to die for - - but you may only need one dessert to finish a meal for 3 people (yes, we ordered 2 desserts: 1 for 3 people and I ORDERED MY OWN!! There! Are you happy???). The lemon curd pie is awesome for dessert. The bar is well stocked and the wine selection is good. DO plan for a bit of a problem finding parking in downtown Portland. We had no problem, but I could see how you might have to find parking on the street a bit touchy. Overall we WILL return to the Swank & Swine.

Great drinks, good food, convivial atmosphere

By BaselTourmaline123 |

We ate and drank at Swine several times while staying at the Paramount. A fun experience, great staff, good food, great cocktails. Not cheap, but good value. Really enjoyed our times there and look forward to going back. Note: these really should be separated. Swank is a restaurant. Swine is primarily a bar that serves small plates/bar food. Swank is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Swine opens at 3 pm.

Breakfast

Very nice rustic setting. I am in town for business and stayed at The Paramount and this restaurant is in the lobby. Quick and friendly service. My breakfast was served in a large bowl with a very generous portion of oatmeal. The fruit was fresh and the presentation was lovely.

We had breakfast two times during our trip and the food was excellent. The wait staff was friendly and accomodating. The price was reasonable for a hotel.

Great food and great service

By Ed M |

This is a high end restaurant but the food is well worth the price. I had the grilled halibut along with the corn parfait. The halibut was the best I've ever had. It was cooked perfectly. The corn parfait was inventive and delicious. If you want bread with your meal, you must request it as it isn't provided automatically. Really good food.

Great bar

By Donna |

We had drinks and food at swine. Loved it. Good vibe, busy, bartender friendly and made great drinks. Not cheap. Would go back again.

Friendly HH with great food

By scarletdancer |

I had yummy pate with crisp bread and a lovely $6 rose. Love the bartenders in the Swine. The Swank is more formal,

Happy hour starts at 3:00

By Carl R |

It was 'burger week' in Portland so,all four of us got the burger 5.00 special. It included a fried green tomato and was made of local beef. Very tasty. We got prosecco, two beers, and a speciality cocktail. 45.00 for the 4 of us. Really nice service and a great location across from Directors Park. We are already planning a return for another happy hours experience. Nice.

Delicious and awesome atmosphere

By Michelle W |

The customer service was outstanding, every dish we ordered was delicious! Swank favorites were the mole poblano chicken and the pineapple dessert, but we had a bunch of fantastic small plates as well. I got about three of the wilcox cocktails, so yummy. Swine's atmosphere is killer as well, the swine fried caramel wings are to die for. Ross, the general manager, was professional and very accommodating.

Nice place near Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall

By lopper |

Daughter and I stopped in to eat on our way to a Christmas concert at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. Happy hour was going on, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. We wanted to eat fairly light so we split a cheesesteak and fries, and the mixed greens salad. Both, very delicious! Server mentioned, the cheesesteak would not be the packed-with-meat type often served other places. Of which we were fine with, and the flavor was excellent! The fries also very tasty, didn’t even need to salt or dip them in anything. The mixed greens salad was also excellent in flavor. Portions more than enough to split for a filling meal for two. Only downside was, I’d ordered a shot of whiskey to toast my late husband, and was a bit shocked in getting the bill to find it was $10. Keep in mind to check the prices on the whiskey part, I certainly would’ve ordered a less expensive brand if knowing the cost. Server was great and we had a nice time and meal. Food prices very reasonable for the quality!

Great way to start the day

By Karen E |

This is a breakfast only review. Fun breakfast menu! We were a group of four, and no one could pick a single winner all four meals were wonderful. I might give a slight edge to my chicken and waffles since the dollop of spiced cream was heaven. When we go back I want some of that in my coffee - might lead to a Harry met Sally moment!

Loved this place!

By Karen R |

After a concert at the Moda Center, we were looking for a bar (Tuesday eve, about 10:30pm.... not an easy find!) our hotel recommended Swine (Swank is the attached restaurant, Swine is the bar.) what a find!! Great bartender, great drinks- great prices!!! They have happy hour at night from 9:30 till closing at midnight. This includes bar food. All at happy hour pricing👏🏻😎 we ordered the crab wonton tons (delicious) and the pork taquitios (very good.) we wish we were staying longer in Portland just to go back to Swine.

Delicious dining in Swank

By ECB17 |

Terrific meal - heirloom tomatoes and halibut cooked perfectly with delicious sauces and flavors. The service was excellent and presentation was picture worthy. Seating is booths and tables - room can be noisy when large tables in center are filled..

easy to get a table on a busy Sunday morning in other restaurants. food is average, service slow even though restaurant not full; Spanish coffee is good.

Good Place to Get Some Lunch in Portland

By LAP201503 |

A good place to eat lunch. Ate here two days in a row, while my wife was at a conference. Both days the food was very good, and there is plenty of variety on the menu. The service the first day was outstanding, while the second day, was just okay. Would definitely recommend.

Food phenomenal, FRIES! timing great for a show

By TravelInGrace |

Wow! Busy night with a large party. Yet they served us with time to spare. Burger and the BEST CRUNCHY FRIES EVER! Excellent burger. Gnocchi puffs of great flavors. Apple salad amazing. Wines good. Highly recommend

One of the best bars in DT portland

Awesome bar. Variety of drinks and cocktails that are just great Great bar food menu Great bartenders Great vibe Moonshines A must see place

Good Beer and Good Service

By Kendra |

This restaurant has very good food and good beer. It is a little pricey but good. The service was okay at times. My friend payed for beer with her card and wanted to pay for the tip with cash. When the bartender realized she didn't write a tip, he made a rude remark. She ended up still tipping him very generously. Other than that, the waitresses and waiters were kind and always helpful.

5 Stars! Over 300 Whiskeys! Awesome bartenders, great happy hour! Yummy food! Did I say Awesome Bartenders and Staff... I am a wine drinker, I settled for the wine first, then asked Christian the bartender to help me find the perfect Old Fashion... He found it after asking questions.. went with a local Rye Whiskey! Sooo yummy!

Great Sunday Breakfast!

By Constance G |

Our last morning in Portland we went out to find some place open early and we were so happy to find the Swank and Swine open! I had an amazing Duck Confit hash, my brother a tempting order of bacon to go with his waffles and my boyfriend had great eggs Benedict! Everything was delicious and served hot! The staff is friendly and accommodating. Actually everyone in Portland is friendly, We had numerous people on the street stop and ask if they could give us directions. Great time! Great town!

Not so Swanky...

By reagangirl70 |

Normally I tend to only write positive experiences in my reviews, however I really feel strongly about sharing my experience last night. My friend and I went for Happy Hour and while their menu is filled with a plethora of cocktails - especially bourbon and whiskey - the food for happy hour is less than memorable. We ordered the wings - and they really weren't 'wings' not to mention not tasty. We also ordered a duck/chicken pate/mousse. It came in a cute jar , but seriously really ... served with Pepperidge Farm butterfly crackers??? A few slices of bread/flatbread/bruschetta would have been so much better. The pate itself was watery and tasteless. The salad was decent - but you really cant mess up a salad too much. Overall - I would not return for food - possibly a cocktail. Sorry Swank & Swine - just being honest. I visit a lot of food places in the Portland area on a weekly basis - and your place just fell a bit short!

Great breakfast

By S D |

Interesting items on the menu, two of us settled for a classic egg and bacon breakfast, the other had the baked eggs and avocado flatbread. Both were very good. The waitress was attentive without being overbearing and was extremely helpful for tourists trying to understand the public transportation market!! Very pleased with the morning.

A Superb Dining Experience

By JohninWashingtonDC |

We arrived at Swank with a party of seven. Many of us had not seen each other in a long time and we were not the easiest of tables. Our server Brendan did a fantastic job with the table. He was knowledgable about the menu and made excellent wine and cocktail suggestions. Pork belly was some of the best I've ever had. The calamari had an interesting twist that kind of worked. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. My sister and I both had the scallops and thought they were done perfectly. In all we ordered perhaps fifteen things and loved them all. That's pretty rare for us. Well done, Swank!

Tasty burger!

By Cystokid |

Visited here while in portland over the holidays and used open table to make our reservations. Promptly seated and enjoyed great service. I had the burger and side of charred beets both were delicious!

Great evening place

By Brad |

If you want to go out and have a great experience, you can’t go wrong with trying Swank and Swine. The food is great and drinks are even better. The staff also are very friendly and accommodating. Try it out and see for yourself.

Well made drinks, attentive staff; Excellent Brunch!

By Adrienne B |

Swine: (bar in The Paramount) Was so excited to find a whiskey and moonshine bar in my hotel when I stayed here last month! The menu was extensive but I just had time for one drink (famous last words I know). I had a cocktail that was something nutty flavored (I want to say bourbon and Nocello based). The staff was attentive and fun and the visit was great. Will definitely go back the next time I'm in Portland. Swank (restaurant in The Paramount): Had brunch here the morning we departed and it was delicious! I had chicken and waffles and my sis got the french toast. Both were good (though I liked hers better). Even better - we got complimentary donuts to start out our meal! The coffee was a little strong/bitter-ish but the staff was so attentive and delightful.

Deserves a high rating

By alohatripper |

With the weather so rainy and chilly, the Swine Restaurant offers the ideal refuge for a hot meal on a rainy or chilly day. It stays open until 10 pm which was perfect for us when we checked in to the Paramount at 8:30 pm. I had dinner there on two occasions. The cheeseburger with FF was perfect after a long flight. Two days later I ordered a pork belly sandwich which was huge and tasty albeit salty. Service is attentive, food arrives quickly, and the ambience is compatible for late drinks and snacks.

Great place

By Guillaume |

A really nice place well located. Cocktails are great, and food is ok. However the place is small and it may be difficult to find a seat.

A Portland downtown must see

By John B |

Fantastic spot. Great bar food and the Bread Pudding Dessert is killer. Small bar connected to a hotel and another full service related restaurant, but this has its own crowd and great pours in drinks and great bartenders.

Scrumptious.

By VianaSantoniOliver |

Delicious food. I highly recommend the salmon. Try not to sit near the kitchen unless you like your clothes smelling like a smoke and food. Otherwise, I would highly recommend it.

Very good for breakfast and lunch

By sacguy |

This restaurant resides in the Paramount hotel and is excellent, at least for breakfast and lunch. Good choices, well prepared with excellent, accommodating service
