Lunch @ the wharf

By travelingmom233 |

For San Francisco, the prices seemed in line, and the food was good. The only reason I didn't give it a five was due to two things. Our glasses weren't refilled in a timely manner - we had to request refills, and my salad was served on such a tiny plate that I had to constantly keep trying to prevent it from falling on the table. The portion was fine, the plate was way too small.

Wonderful Place to Eat

By baj |

We took an Amtrak vacation, and part of the package was having dinner at this restaurant. The food was amazing and the view spectacular with the ocean, sea lions, sea gulls, and Alcatraz.

Decent

By Phyllis0318 |

We visited this restaurant in September...great location, space and service. The food was ok - it’s worth a try. Oh, and great sunsets!

Nice meal!

By Linda A |

We had an evening meal here on a recent cruise visit to San Francisco. We had decided that we would eat on Pier 39 but there were so many restaurants, it was difficult to decide which was the best for us - we walked around them all at least twice but decided on this one. Swiss Louis is a smart restaurant, certainly not a fast food joint. On the evening we were here, it was very popular, almost fully booked (which was one of the reasons why we chose to eat here!). We chose garlic bread and calamari to start and seafood linguini for mains. We drank a Californian pino by Frank Coppella (apologies if I misspelled that) which was gorgeous! We noticed many of our fellow diners were choosing large crabs and seafood for mains, which were served in their shells without other accompaniments. Service was good, although maybe too fast by UK standards but we didn't feel pressurised to eat up and leave, unlike some US restaurants! Our server and maitre d' were both friendly and efficient. We enjoyed our meal, and our evening here - there was a lovely view over the water and a pleasant ambience in the restaurant, and we would both be happy to dine here again!

Delightful Spot

By FlyingOften |

My wife and I went to this restaurant to celebrate International Women's Day. The dishes were of good size and tasty. If I would have only one complaint that would be that the Garlic bread we ordered was too oily for our taste. The restaurant validated my Pier 39 garage parking ticket for 2 hours. Another definite plus.

Ok Not Exciting

By WillieMacfan |

Group Dinner-with fixed menu (though three entree courses. Location is at the very end of Pier 39 which makes it difficult for handicapped folks. There is an elevator up a floor and a walk bridge to parking garage on same level. Parking prices are outrageous- $ 40 in an empty garage on a Friday night for less than 4 hours with an hour comped. Park elsewhere and uber or walk. Bar is good with reasonable prices- two cocktails and two glasses of wine $ 80 with tip. Service was friendly and efficient Menu was house salad, chicken, pasta or sea bass and tiramisu. Food quantity and quality ok

Very good option in this very touristic area

By Juliana J |

Visited in 2024. This is a very good option in a very touristic/ busy area (Pier 39) to enjoy a meal with water view. We went there twice, first time for drinks and appetizers, second time for a full seafood meal, both times very good service and the food tasty.

Pass

By GradGirlAKJ |

We actually ate at Swiss Louis twice in one week. The first time we went it was FREEZING. I suppose to encourage people to step in, they leave the actual front door open. Wide open, both of them. It was 50 degrees out, and our table was about 15 steps in the door. I wore my outdoor coat (inside the restaurant) on top of my sweater. The food was fine? I say that as a question, because I'm still not really sure. I ordered pasta with ham and peas. It was fine enough; not the best alfredo I've had. My husband had a pizza, and it wasn't his favorite either. We came back for a second dinner because well, we were tired and had decision fatigue. We thought we would give them a second chance, and hey, maybe it was our fault for ordering poorly. I decided to try the combo meal which was a salad, chicken parm and a dessert for $38. The salad was straight up bad - too much dressing, and I really just didn't even eat it at all. The chicken was actually quite good, but the spaghetti was woefully undercooked (beyond a true al dente) and had minimal sauce, so I didn't eat it either. The dessert was essentially a caramel flan, and good! Overall, even on the second trip, the room was way too cold to be comfortable. We asked to be seated further from the door and it still wasn't comfortable. Ladies, if you want to wear a dress and heels, I think you will shiver all night. The food was lackluster, and rather expensive. We spent maybe $60 the first night (no salads, appetizers, desserts or cokes), and spent $91 the second time. It is just the 2 adults, and no alcohol either time. On the food quality alone, I would say this place is a pass and I would not recommend it. The views, however, were quite nice.

Very good!

By Marine |

Hearty food and very nice Service: thanks to Carlos! There are heaters available outside, allowing to keep warm even on the terrace. In the end: a very pleasant time spent here.

Fabulous dinner

By Minnesota Jan |

Cuisine and service excellent. View of bay, including sea lions. Great vintage photos of San Francisco. On second level of Pier 39. We enjoyed a memorable dinner here. Overall ambience was great.

Average

By Beverley B |

This place looks great much better than the rest of the restaurants on the pier but don’t be fooled. The service was very good and the view also. The food tasted ok but presentation needs some serious work. I had the chicken Marsala which looked anything but appetising when it came, brown sludge with mushrooms and a spoon full of spaghetti, no colour at all. Good job it tasted ok. Work on the presentation of the food!

Expensive for what you get

By Meyers_09282013 |

The restaurant is clean. The staff is very friendly. The view is ok. The food is not so great. Small portions. Little on taste. I actually had better fish and chips at the airport in Chicago.

Not recommended!

By Caro |

Never ate such bad fries. Not recommended! Von Fish&Chips on the pier we had different ideas! ☹️ ☹️

Location.

By John K |

Called here and had the beer tasters selection. Tried 2 different cards and all were delicious. On the pier near the sea lions. We had a nice time here.

VERY CLOSE TO REAL ITALIAN FOOD

By Ilaria De Benedetto |

I’m italian and everytime I’ve eaten italian food in America it was a horrible experience. This time I tried to give it a try and I was not disappointed. The calamari fritti were good but the linguine with clams were almost as good as the ones I had in italy. Worth it.

It's good but not the best

By Alissa C |

We loved this place because of its location and the view while dining. Although there's nothing so much special about the food we still loved the whole experience. Don't get me wrong. It's good but it's not the best. Although I must say that the ingredients were fresh and the staff were super kind. That's why I rate it a 4/5.

Crappy Crab

By MaxYang2015 |

First, I have to say that the scene by the window is unparallelly beautiful; with Golden Gate Bridge as background, there is nothing to complain about. Nevertheless, there is not much more to compliment. The crab is tasteless, to put it mildly. The service is lousy; the waiter could not bother to put my plate on my table. This is my experience with my own skin in the game, a hungry person after a dinner there. Think seriously before you go.

Very nice - loved the beer tasting

By P V |

Great local beer to discover! Had hamburgers... was really good and quality, quantity and price were just right!

Great meal.

By Chris |

Great food and lovely gentle waiter. We wanted a 1 course simple meal before leaving for a night flight. My husband had fish and chips and I had delicious bassa fillet with mango salsa and veg. No hovering for a tip so we gave generously. Wish we had discovered it before we left.

Cooked to Perfection and Great Server

By Charles S |

Sat on the covered patio next to the upper deck boardwalk and enjoyed the very cool breeze. Server was so pleasant and real. The steak was perfect and the lobster tail was sooo tender. Absolutely delicious with a glass of wine. I wish I were there now! Bring a light jacket. I had never been to San Francisco so I was surprised at how cool and breezy it is even in the middle of summer. It was in the upper 50s at dinner! It was awesome!

Nice restaurant at Pier 39

By Rudolph v |

Nice restaurant on Pier 39. Service excellent, food tasty, but not refined and therefore not above average. We had two sandwiches and a fish stew

Come for the food, stay for the view

By hopkinton |

We were staying nearby and wanted dinner with a view. We waited about 15 minutes for a table, but then we’re seated with a view of Alcatraz, the GG bridge, and sea lions below. As the sun began to set, the wait staff sprang into action pulling up the blinds like part of a well choreographed ritual to give the guests the best view possible. Our food was good and the price was reasonable given the restaurants location in a tourist destination. Service was outstanding.

Nice outdoor seating.

By Love2Travel |

We asked to sit outside and was presented with a table. Walter took our order. A very nice man. I ordered the seafood Louis salad and my husband the lasagna. I would’ve given it five stars however the shrimp that was on top of the lettuce were probably from a can. They had no taste at all. Also, the menu description said tomatoes, beets and artichoke hearts. Plural. My plate had one beet slice, one quarter tomato and one artichoke half.

A quick stop for a drink

By Britt B |

Since I didn't eat I can't comment on the food. While waiting for the ferry to Oakland, I decided to stop by for a quick beer, while my friends were shopping. The bar is next to the restaurant, serves food and drinks. I decided on a local beer, which was very tasty. I liked the interior design full of beer memobilia, plenty of tables and window seating. The service was excellent and the beer not over priced considering the location. I highly recommend it.

Very good Italian

By Mik C |

Had Calimari appetizer (fresh and good eats). Split a sausage sandwich. It was big enough for both with appetizer was a perfect lunch. Would eat there again and had a great view of the bay. The sausage and cheese were excellent flavor and plenty. The bread was very good and we assumed it was boudin's excellent bread.

Charged twice, and no contact from owners

By Robert K |

Terrible service, waiter got order wrong. Food must be on a conveyor belt, came 4 minutes after order was placed. Starter wasn't even cleared and we had main. Food was bland. Not for the prices you pay. Then we were charged TWICE!!!! CHECK YOUR BANK STATEMENTS, WE WERE CHARGED TWICE AND CONTACTED THE OWNERS WHO NEVER REPLIED!!!!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!

Nightmare Food

By Adolfo V |

It was great at first. Nice sights but soon turned into a nightmare. As we patiently waited for our food for an hour we began to feel discomfort. As the food arrives with an attitude from the waiter it was cold as if it had been sitting for a while. I did not complain but then as more food arrived for our friends and family they all said the same thing about their food. Bland and cold. The most unfortunate part was seeing the bill and paying what we would pay at a $$$$ ahh restaurant. Anyway, my point = This shi was borderline dog food.

I love the food

By zharick guadalu... e |

Delicious food, the atmosphere is super good, I love the view and I love the service, I would come back again, I love all the lasagna

Came for the beer

By Angel57 |

We popped in to have a pint as we saw they did a Magnolia Brewery IPA which we had enjoyed previously at the Magnolia Brewery over in Haight. It was a peaceful respite from the crowds on the wharf and we whiled away some time enjoying our beer before making our way back to the airport.

Great location on Pier 39

By jwfla |

We were on a Monday evening for dinner during early August. Many restaurants on the Pier were either closed for Monday or totally gone because of Covid. Very nice atmosphere and our meals were excellent. Not many people out eating here so glad to give the owners and staff the business,

Super service

By Róisín B |

Kimberly was super attentive and friendly, Food was good, abit expensive ($6 for a side of fries) but that comes with the location in pier 39! Overall very good!

Not good. Dangerous?

By PhDToulouse |

Attracted by the view obviously. But dishes very kind, and a fish and ship finally inedible. Not normal considering the high enough price. We do not recommend, despite a very attractive location.

Fancy Food, Fast Food Feel

By KentuckyKin |

When trying to please a restaurant to please several people we thought seafood and Italian would be the answer. The menu was a bit more limited and than what we expected and a bit more pricey than anticipated. There was a bit of a wait, not bad, but once seated it seemed that the servers were stretched thin, on the run to meet the needs of many tables, no time for conversation. While our needs were met, the atmosphere was a bit on the hustle side. The food was OK, but no memories created. Upon receiving the bill, we were charged for anything brought to the table, including the bread that introduced the meal. Not the worst we had at all, but would likely choose a new spot next time.

Fab food and amazing views

By Belu |

We stumbled across this restaurant and it’s a little gem of a place. The views are amazing especially at sunset. Claudio our server was attentive but not intrusive, he anticipated our needs before we had to ask for them the perfect balance and everything you want from a server. Fantastic service and the food was really fresh and cooked to perfection. Thank you.

Italian at its best

By Irene W |

We visited this place while on holiday in San Francisco An excellent view and food to match Service was first class and the food was of a very high standard. The restaurant was very busy but we still managed to be seated by the window overlooking the water.

Great dinner.

By Walther von der Vogelweide |

We had a great dinner at this restaurant in San Francisco in the complex called Pier 39. Someone took the steak, some the salmon, some the pizza. All good, good wine cellar.

Great Italian and Seafood choices

By SanL |

A little of everything on the menu. One of the recommendations from my waiter Walter was the Coippino which is an Italian American seafood stew. I went with it and wasn’t disappointed. Great cosmo martinis too. I cannot leave our the great views either. I had a window table with views of the boats, Sunset, sea lions and Golden Gate Bridge. Excellent choice.

Nice views and sunset

By Sarahwivak |

Very basic set menu, I ordered steak but they didn’t ask how I wanted it cooked and made a huge fuss when I asked for potatoes or rice as it only came with vegetables. I’m the end the waiter agreed to potatoes but I still didn’t get the steak cooked rare like I wanted and it arrived medium well. A rather dry experience, no sauces offered. Salad starter and everything else felt extremely rushed, like they were pressing me to leave because it was busy. Also kept pushing alcohol even tho I want drinking. Mediocre food, wouldn’t rush back.

2 visits in 4 days

By Mike S |

This restaurant offered great harbour views along with great service and great food. Wine was sensibly priced and the food was tasty and delivered promptly. On our second visit the food was slightly delayed so they provided some complimentary clam chowder for the table which was a nice touch. Kids said the cheese pizza was the best they had ever tasted which is praise indeed!

Beautiful lunch on the patio

By Wismickchick |

We got here at about 2:00 on a Friday afternoon. We were immediately seated outside on the patio. Our waitress greeted us and was very friendly and attentive. I got the crab enchilada and my husband got the fish and chips. We also ordered the sourdough garlic bread. We enjoyed all of the food very much! It was such a great combination of delicious beverages, yummy food, prompt service, and amazing ambience. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Deep fried, tasteless fish

By Jan |

If you like deep fried fish without much taste, than this is the place for you. You mostly pay for the view but not for the food

Very good food, waiter somewhat offputting

By girlcat |

Got here late on Saturday night. Had a table with a wonderful view, food and service were very good (though the sourdough bread should have been warmed up). I had the three course meal with the pasta primavera - not too many vegetables but the sauce was light and delicious. Another in our party had the three course with the fillet of basa and he really liked it. The other had the linguine with mussels which was a big portion and also very good. The tiramisu was a little overpowering in taste. At the end after we paid the bill with the credit card, we put a slash across the tip portion as we were going to pay cash. After the waiter took the bill, he rushed back over and asked if something was wrong with the service. We told him we were paying cash for the tip. Maybe we should have put "cash" where the tip portion was but it was just unsettling how he rushed back and questioned us about the tip.

Great food with great view of bay

By Merrytraveler |

Sunset dinner overlooking Golden Gate Bridge. Husband had lasagne and I had chicken parmigiana and it was more than we could eat. Garlic bread was to die for.

Don’t go with high expectations

By Rae L |

Seating was quick. Bartender/ server Carlos was great. However the food was subpar with warm oysters and flavorless calamari. It was just meh.

Not a great experience

By FastHorsesFastCars |

Looked and smelled good - service and food didn’t live up to looks and smells. Service was incredibly scattered. Wrong drink for one of us. The meat in my meal was cold - which they took off the bill for me. The whole experience could be a real neat one with the location and atmosphere. Found it really fell short :(

Lovely food, great view

By robbelcher |

We had dinner here and the vews were fantastic. We ordered from the set price menu and that made it very affordable. This was the first time I had chowder and it was as good as anywhere else we had it. Food , and service all round was great with no issues what so ever

Great food. Nice view

By snowbird8729 |

We had a late lunch here on a Saturday. It was extremely busy but we were seated promptly. Our food was great. Our party loved the calamari and my husband said it was the best cioppino he has ever had. Service was a bit slow and my cup of soup got lost in the mix but overall really good including the House wine.

Good restaurant but a little expensive

By Helene |

We eat very well and the view is beautiful. The waiters are very nice. On the other hand prices are a little expensive for quantity and quality

Food awful.

By Miller1999 |

Positives first... Great view of the Golden Gate Bridge, sea lions and sunset. Our waiter was very friendly and hospitable. Wine and beer were nice. BIG NEGATIVE... Food however was awful!!!! We send back our 2 cold fish dishes to be reheated (!yikes) and our sons chicken dish was in eatable. Of course this is a touristy spot but when paying over the odds for food it should at least be eatable. We are going to try a restaurant without a view in the hope that we find good food.

Out of a can

By John S |

One of most disappointing meals ever. We stopped in for a bite and ordered the clam chowder plus a seafood platter. Nothing was good. Everything tested like it was from a can or frozen

Excellent food, fabulous view, and attentive staff.

By dolcesongbird |

I stopped in during a visit to SF and Swiss Louie did not disappoint. We sat at a table with a lovely view of the pier. The salad of fresh greens was exceptionally fresh. Indulged in the thick clam chowder and enjoyed the red snapper sauté as my entree. That was delicious. The red snapper was sautéed with mango chutney sauce and was topped with carmelized onions and was served with sautéed mixed vegetables, primarily squash.

Clam chowder - gorgeous

By Halinag |

Stopped here for clam chowder in sour dough bread and was not disappointed, it was gorgeous. Not expensive. We sat in the window watching the seals outside on the platforms. Loved this restaurant

Excellent place to eat for all.

By Ansia R |

This place was perfect. It had an amazing view, amazing food and amazing staff. Being a vegan, I was a little worried about food choices while being away, but this restaurant was very accommodating. Walter, one of the staff who helped me out, was so lovely and made my dietary choices feel accepted and not an inconvenience. Would definitely recommend.

Great Restaurant!

By do_the_freddy |

This review happened during CoVID (June 2021) before June 15th. My wife and I went to San Francisco for a short vacation. We found this restaurant while walking and Pier 39. We were looking for another restaurant but couldn’t find it, so we decided to give this place a chance and we are happy we did. It’s a nice restaurant with a great location and view. Its on the second floor of the Pier 39 and it over looks the area with the seals. So, you get a dinner and a show. I got the oysters as an appetizer and they tasted great. They where fresh and yummy. My wife ordered the pasta primavera and she loved it. The sauce was good and flavorful. The pasta also came with shrimp. I had the stake and lobster. It was great. The stake and lobster where cooked perfectly. They had plenty of taste. I also had the sautéed mushrooms and they went perfectly with the stake. The staff was friendly and attentive. We recommend this restaurant. We hope to eat here again soon.

Lovely sunset venue

By Dennis S |

Looking to get away from the throng, we ventured deeper into to pier to find this restaurant with just the view I wanted. Perhaps not the cheapest place around, but our meals were excellent as was the service. Pretty reasonable selection for their menu, catering for those wanting something special or something regular. But certainly great views out to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Good food; shame about the 'sudden' crowd.

By Stuart K |

We had an early lunch here whilst visiting San Fransisco on the Queen Victoria cruise ship. The welcome was warm and friendly and the food was well prepared and cooked. Also, we had a nice window seat, so could appreciate the surrounding environment. The only negative was that, 10 minutes after we had sat down, the restaurant was 'invaded' by a huge 'tour party' from the Far East. Literally, every table was taken up and the noise was deafening. That said, our lunch was still very good.

If you like Italian food, try this one!

By Solomon W |

This is a nice place with good food & reasonable prices. It offers everything expected in an Italian Restaurant & more --- wonderful & prompt service, plus amazing views of Pier 39 !!!

Decent Food. Great views.

By Floridaguy2020 |

Overall, food was decent. Sourdough bread basket was hot, fresh and delicious. Fish and chips were mediocre and the chicken parm was nothing special. Average restaurant with a great view of the bay.

At Best Very Average

By Rhona C |

Don’t usually eat in “ touristy” spots but thought we would try this restaurant on Pier 39. Ordered pizza and fish and chips. Both meals edible but very average compared with other meals we have had in San Francisco. Waiter never offered us water and was ultra quick clearing the plates away and bringing the bill. His abrupt service was reflected in the tip we left! The front of house “girls” spent their time chatting and looking at their phones. Looked completely disinterested in service. Would not recommend. Expensive for a mediocre meal and experience.

Tourist trap

By Just one more.... |

Good location at Pier 39, food just okay. It's all about getting the tourist in, then out as quickly as possible. Very busy at lunchtime, good views but the food was nothing special.

Terrible pizza, worst ever🤢

By Keith O |

Terrible pizza, worst ever🤢 The base was greasy and I think I’ll have indigestion for the night.... Garlic bread would be lovely if you brought a chainsaw with you....

Bad

By Вероніка А |

Poor quality of food, burgers and salads are bad.We cancelled two meals. View is good but not food .Improve your service

Particular, very particular for Italian tastes!

By Chicco14 |

Salad to start with and chicken piccata with spaghetti as a highlight. Apart from the unusual chicken/spaghetti pairing for us natives, I can admit that the chicken was good and the spaghetti was fairly al dente, although the use of garlic to a sustained extent together with Parmesan left me a little puzzled. Good tiramisu, minus the beer evidently low alcohol content. Nice setting, so service (my serving dish arrived when my diners were almost done).

Nothing else

By Roberto Cuttin |

I didn't think it was worth it. The environment is nice, but the food found nothing else. The service left nothing to be desired. Very running. My wife didn't like the linguine with fresh clam. Several shells came closed, indicating that they weren't well cooked or fresh.

Nice atmosphere and food.

By azzklaun |

In addition to the great atmosphere and food choices, we had probably had the best service that I have not seen in a long time, esp. for San Francisco area. Tracy has the best attitude, very cheerful and customer oriented and obviously loves what she does. Our food was great and served in a timely manner.

Inadequate and rude dining room manager. Terrible Italian cuisine.

By Alessandro |

Inadequate and rude room manager. Very rough Italian cuisine. The expense is not justified by the service and food.

Must do restaurant in San Francisco!!!

By mary jo c |

Second time dining at this restaurant, very good food, excellent service. We dined with our Kids and grandchildren, everyone s food was amazing and tasty! So much food!

So much went wrong, I asked for plates without garlic, due to An allergy but it was there

By lauramD9761LH |

I went there tonight (31th of july) with my family. Looking forward to eat seafood and knowing that it would be pricy. I told the waiters, before ordering, that I am allergic to garlic and that I would be sure I could eat something without. They assured me that I could eat everything. First The green salad came with dressing aside, cause The waiter was not sure of The garlic. I asked for oil and vinegar. But the dressing was already dripped on The salad. So they had to bring a new one. Than the plate with fried fish was also together with vegetables with garlic. We got a new plate cause the garlic was also on the fish. But the fried fisch was also partly raw. They did not make excuses and the check was extremely high for this kind of service. The food was ok but not worth that much money.

Good location, subpar rest..

By Erin B |

This restaurant is located on the upper level in the pier 39 tourist area. My friend and I ate here for dinner one night before our Alcatraz tour. The restaurant was really warm, almost an uncomfortable temperature inside. It was very busy so service was a little slow. We had a table near the windows though so there was a great view of the bay. They had a nice cocktail selection. Not many food options for vegans, but I made a pizza without cheese which was okay. Restaurant overall wasn’t that clean. I wouldn’t eat here again, probably better places around the pier.

delicious meal/ wonderful view

By Rhumrunner2014 |

This was a real treat. Not expecting this on Pier 39. Our waiter, Israel, couldn't have been more helpful. We were seated outside in the lovely sunshine, with a view of the Coit Tower. Drinks first, then a lovely meal. It was our last day in San Francisco, and it was a perfect end to a perfect trip.

Nice but unexceptional

By colleen C |

As part of a group, we found our chicken marsala good enough and the view delightful. We had a choice of that, a fish and a meat as part of a package. The service lacked charm or friendliness. Waiters seemed overwhelmed, though the restaurant was not that busy at 6:00.

Of Italian not even the name!

By FARALE |

I had dinner on a tour. Nice location, very scenic but nothing else. Very touristy, disorganized, the waiters missed orders, slow in service, chaotic and finally not at all Italian, the appetizer salad sprayed with a pink sauce, not Italian style, salmon with another sauce, also not Italian style. They only use the "Italian cuisine" brand. Avoid!

Excellent service, excellent food

By Ali F |

Had lunch here after a trip to Alcatraz. From the very second I walked in the service was outstanding - nothing was too much trouble. I also watched how the server interacted with a family with small kids, something that's not always easy. She was superb, managing the little kid food foibles beautifully. And the food - it was excellent and nice cold beer on tap. I would go back again without question!

Overpriced

By thegambler |

Food was OK. Nothing special but OK. Overpriced for what you got. Service not very good - disinterested slightly surly waiters. Restaurant freezing cold, everyone sitting in their coats! Food overpriced then an expectation of 20 % minimum tip in addition to 6.5% already added. Wouldn't return.

Pier 39 Restaurant in San Francisco - Expensive but great sea food

By BeLu London |

This restaurant was the less touristic in what is the most touristic area in San Francisco. Not cheap but provided a good service with tasty food, I warn of big portions! Lovely views here overlooking the marina. The atmosphere was more canteen for me but the food, views, sunset and service more than made up for the canteen clang. A great restaurant in the bay.

Disappointing food experience

By Marita |

Overpriced and it did not tickle my tastebuds. Was hoping for a great seafood experience with the octopus. Did not happen. Staff was serviceminded

Not good!!!

By Aya S |

We ordered the NY steak and it was not good, plus almost half of it was fat! So it was not worth almost 40$!! The waiter was very nice and tried to ask the owner if he can do something about it (we didn’t tell him to do so) and the owner said no!! The steak wasn’t worth the price for sure and wasn’t good. The pasta was ok but full of fat and the salad had too much vinaigrette in it. Should have taken the steak in that other place that is full all the time down stairs.. the bistro…

Good service bad food

By Matt L |

Went with a group of friends. The restaurant looks awesome menu items look tasty. Two of us were dying for linguine and clams. It was the worst meal I never finished. What we got was a plate of linguine with some steamed clams, then the water they steamed the clams in was the sauce. Other in group ordered jumbo prawns fried. He got over cooked large shrimp from a frozen package, he ate just one. Other choices at the table was lasagna, had better from package and fish and chips got a good review. The server was very nice, understood the food was bad, offered to get us new meals, but we just wanted to leave. With all the awesome restaurants in the city, you may want to skip this place.

Views over the bay are beautiful

By The Wandering Reviewer |

Something special for our first night in San Francisco at Swiss Louis who has first opened in 1936. I’m not the seafood fan but my partner is and this place had something for both of us. Located at Pier 39, upstairs and towards the end, this restaurant is classy and has a beautiful view over the bay to Sausalito and the Golden Gate Bridge. Menu is extensive with plenty of variety. We had the deep fried mozzarella sticks and my partner had the steamed mussels and clams. Frankly, the mozzarella sticks were disappointing. Served on a plated of shredded lettuce, it didn’t look very appetising and I expected more from such a high calibre restaurant. The bowl of mussels and clams were served in a tasty broth and seafood cooked perfectly. For main course, I had the #fettuccinealfredo which was a good portion size but somewhat dry. A drizzle of olive oil would’ve made the texture smooth and add more flavour. My partner had the dungeness crab enchiladas. We both ordered Margherita cocktails. See photos for how stunning they looked. Tasted even better. Wine menu is vast and celebrate local wineries. To see is outdoor dining as well which is well decorated with geranium shrubs sprinkled around the seating. Disability access good. Dietaries can be catered for. Kids menu and high chairs available. Prices aren’t cheap. Have to say the service was excellent and staff fast, efficient and friendly. Finally, the views over the marina across the bay as the sun started to set was mesmerising. If for no other reason, it’s worth it for the views.

Below average

By bettyrivera |

Whatever food and mediocre service. Food was extremely greasy and pasta was swimming in butter zero alfredo taste to it. I would not recommend or go back.

Ok for a quick meal

By Malc501 |

We were a little disappointed we arrived just after 9.30 -the host said the kitchen closed at 10.00 but it was fine. Unfortunately all felt rushed we were in and out by 10.10. Good view but no ambiance. Food was ok but very rushed

Good lunch

Stopped here for lunch after visiting Alcatraz. Service was pretty good considering they were probably short staffed but our server was very pleasant and attentive. We didn't have anything too crazy - three salad entrees and a chicken sandwich. Everything was good and the portions were generous.

Service was good, and the food came out quick! You shouldn’t have to buy your own bread with your meal at an Italian restaurant. Food was barely ok, so don’t see us returning!

Good Food While watching the Sea Lions

By Explore694115 |

Our food was very much "More Please" the staff could not be better very busy but took a little time to ask about us and ensure we had their usual service

Fantastic food and service!

By alanna d |

Fantastic food and the service is amazing, staff were super efficient, we had starters less than 2 minutes after ordering them. Brilliant views! I didn’t find it over priced and all five of us were thrilled with both food and service.

High Price/ Nice Service /Poor Food

By Grzegorz S |

Probably one of the best restaurants at Pier 39 but still definitely should be avoided by food lovers! :) Nicely located on Pier’s upper floor - Great SF view and attentive service. Still it’s not worth hight prices of poor food served there. We tried 4 different dishes and non of them was good enough to finish (very average touristic quality). Definitely should be avoided!

The finest not crowded place on the pier

By Carsten Kjær J |

You have to visit this place. Mature dedicated waiters serving the fabulous colored tasty drinks given local names like prison and sunset. The latter is the reason why you have to dine in this restaurant in the evening the sun sinking in the Pacific seen through the Golden Gate is as amazing as the wine and food served, a great Shiraz followed by the best Pizza in Town, and to tell you the truth, I am NOT usually for Pizza, but this one - Go for it.

Fantastic location but service and food needs some work

By Ketan Deshpande |

Great location however service and food taste needs some work. Fantastic views of Golden Gate Bridge, bay and sunsets

Below Average

By Justin K |

Not even worth 1 star...I would give 0.5 star if there was an option. Service, portion, taste were all below average. You are just paying for the view and it's not worth my money. Like everyone else, I have been to many Italian/Seafood restaurants, this one should never be listed as a fine Italian/Seafood restaurant. In my opinion, it is just a local pub. I asked to change our table since I could smell the air freshener of the bathroom. And I was rejected by a dishonest server who said the empty tables were reserved but it was empty the whole time we got out of the restaurant. And I still smell the air freshener instead of a delicious food smell or taste. So I would totally avoid going there ever again.

Simply awful

By Kimmieward |

Decided to eat here as it looked nice. Was seated and then left for nearly half an hour for service. The waitress was lovely and apologised and took our order for starter and main. The starter arrived, microwaved garlic bread so overdone it was inedible, and before we finished the main arrived too! The food bar the mixed fish (deep fried and greasy) appeared to be microwaved too. Absolutely terrible, not the cheapest, tipped the waitress as it wasn’t her fault but really disappointed on our first night of our holiday.

Great view of the Sea Lions

By ladyomaha |

Had lunch Here on a Monday and was not crowded till after 1pm. Our server was nice but it was her first day there. We had the beef Ravioli and the crab enchiladas. Both were very good. We also had the house Chardonnay at $8 a glass and was good as well. Pay the extra $2 for the bread basket and treat yourself to sour dough bread. Goes well with a cup of their yummy clam chowder. Clean restrooms. It is on the 2nd floor of Pier 39 and worth the climb. Best part: ask for a table by the window to watch the Sea Lions.

Food was tasty but..............

By Ali |

We had an 8:15 reservation so got seated right away. Happy to have a window overlooking sea lions so that was a bonus. With the restaurant not crowded we waited for 15+ minutes with no hint of a waiter (or water). Then he shows up to take order from couple seated next to and after us. I got up to go the washroom and advised the hostess of the lack of attention. She said she would let the manager know. Go to the ladies room and it was so dirty - gave me second thoughts about eating here if this is how they tend to housekeeping. Returning to our table I advised the same hostess of the state of affairs. Again, she said she would talk to her manager. I did see her speaking with a man in a suit so guessing that may have been "the manager" Waiter appeared and from then on we got attention. I ordered pasta primavera and friend got fish and chips. Ordered a basket of bread - not warm just basic sourdough. The basket had just hit the table and as we were taking our first bites our meals arrived so no break in between. Pasta had delicious orange cream sauce but was so skimpy on veggies hardly can call it a primavera. Enjoyable and enough to take home but basically just penne and sauce. Friend said F&C had good flavor although fries could have been crispier. Meal was tasty and filling but not spectacularly memorable. Had a very standard piece of choc. mousse for dessert which I would venture to say is not housemade. Chose this restaurant as being a vegetarian very limited options at Pier 39. Here is the main reason we will not return. Upon leaving, we went to the ladies room again and was met by the same mess. They had an hour to clean up an issue a customer reported and they did nothing. Any restaurant that doesn't put an importance on restroom cleanliness (I feel) has its priorities wrong.

Italian with views

The service was great and the food was delicious, especially pasta. It has spectacular views of Pier 39 and the entire city of SF.

Best meal in US so far

By AviationGal |

We got a voucher for a meal here as part of our package. Although we were limited to a few options from the extensive menu, we were able to find something we liked. The steak was delicious and vegetables cooked to perfection. Tiramisu was light and lovely We sat by the window and had a great view of the bay and harbour seals basking below us. Not a budget restaurant but

Good Food, Reasonable Prices, Great Service - Definitely *Not* Your Typical Tourist Trap Restaurant

By Won K |

We had been to this restaurant many years ago pre-pandemic and thought it was decent, but nothing to write home about. However, on a recent visit, our experience was totally different. First, the prices were very reasonable (relative to San Francisco prices in heavily touristy area like Pier-39). Second, from the very start the service was friendly, attentive, and amazing. I had to look at the menu couple of times to make sure we hadn't accidentally landed in some fancy, over-priced, restaurant. I don't know if we had just gotten lucky with the server or not, but our server was 'Carlos M.' and yes, he was great. Third, the food was good quality and tasted great. My favorite was their Margarita Pizza. It was delicious ("now, that's a pizza!!" type delicious) - nothing like the flat tasting so called Margarita Pizza at other restaurants I've tried. Lastly, the restaurant located in the upper level of the Pier-39 complex facing the west-side, with great views of the city, a marina, and the bay. Highly recommended. I hope you get Carlos for your server. :)

Last night in San Francisco

By bella |

Our last night so decided to give this a try. Looked like it may have been closed but once we got upstairs discovered it wasn’t. All had pasta dishes, lasagne, spag Bol and a tomato based pasta. Had a full side of garlic bread to share. Service excellent too. Food was excellent. Basket of garlic bread was huge for $8, the 4 of us couldn’t eat it all! Bit on the expensive side especially the drinks but well worth a visit.

Extremely average

By Bgd1973 |

We were in the tourist district and didn't do our research and ended up here due to the location looked good and there was Chowder in the sour dough bread which seemed to be the one thing you should eat at Fisherman's wharf. The chowder was a thick roux with a chopped up mussel, the sour dough was tough and inedible. The ceassar salad mostly consisted of the stalk part of the lettuce. The best part of the restaurant was the good view of the sea lions. The service was lack lustre at best. I'd avoid but not sure if any of the other restaurants down there are much better.

grab a beer

Dropped in for a quick beer. Service was good. Had good selection a local brews. Nice place a stop while at Pier 39.

Average

By RoadyMan |

I can’t say I would run back here for Italian anytime soon. Food was ok at best and the servers were extremely slow. The view was probably the highlight.

Beautiful view...

By Dirk K |

The view was beautiful, the service was polite, the food was really not worth mentioning, there are much better places.

Very underwhelming

By Kristi Z |

We were celebrating our wedding anniversary so I was looking for a nice seafood place with ambience. Found the ambiance. Food not so much. Most places give you complementary bread, not here. I ordered the two lobster tails with veggies, my husband ordered the salmon. Upon arrival the aesthetics of our meal was disappointing. The veggies were sauteed in a garlic type sauce but you could tell the veggies had been overblanched or over sauteed as it was bordering on too soft. And the zucchini were not cut to the same size or thickness which causes an imbalanced cooking. My one lobster was okay but not completely cooked as there were dome raw parts. The second tail was odd. It had the consistency of squishy mashed potatoes. The lobster wasn't fresh. Sometimes warm water lobsters present a softer flesh compared to cold water lobsters but waiter didn't know where the lobsters came from. But texture was off so the waiter was nice enough to get another one. The waiter tells us the chef had already prepared one for another guest and so he brought it to me. I felt awful that someone else was now going to wait longer for their meal. That sort of info should not be shared with a diner. The salmon was at least moist but not much flavor. We ordered a cup of chowder. I had to remove the bayleaf from it. That should have been done once the soup is made. It was bland. Our entire meal was average. Thank goodness for the view. This place had such promise given the interior. The manager was checked out leaning by the back area. His face was tired and he was not engaged.

OK...but only OK....

By Nigel A |

As others have suggested it was good to find a restaurant not offering items not smothered in cheese or batter! And the view over the Bay was great at sunset! I'm used to American portions being far too big ...so I was disappointed in my small serving of pasta . But these things are subjective. When I was presented with the bill it included something called 'SF mandate' Only $5 on the bill...and I see from looking at this afterwards that it has a laudable aim. But an explanation in the bill folder....and I use my English word carefully was.... gobbledegook. In other words the words meant absolutely nothing! As a rest that amount came off the tip as if you are putting something on a bill then it needs to be justified properly. So overall...disappointing..

Fantastic view!

By tinaNtravel |

The view is fantastic. Most seats are around or near the windows. You get a view of San Francisco, the bay, and the Golden Gate Bridge. The server was very friendly and helpful. The food was very good. Some of the food was a bit high priced for what you got - but I suppose that's to be expected in a high tourist area with a great view. A negative was that they did not take names to hold your place in line. Instead, you had to physically stand in line and wait. I would have rather put my name down and walked around a few stores and then come back. But, as it turned out, the line moved faster than expected.

Pedestrian Food With a View

By marfak |

Locals do not come down to Pier 39 to eat; in fact, judging by the absence of dogs, locals do not stop here at all. But even though we live in the Bay Area, we were at Pier 39 because Julie wanted a specific piece of jewelry from one of the stores. This is one of the many seafood restaurants on Pier 39. We expected the food to be average here, and it was. The fish and chips was just OK. The fish had a good crunch to it, but was nothing special. The chips were nothing special as well. The clam chowder was just average. And the prices were on the high side. Having said that, the service was friendly and we had a killer table. I note that even though this was a Saturday during the lunch hour, and while Pier 39 was packed, the place was almost empty.

To avoid

No interest except that the restaurant looks good from the outside…. Dish just good, expensive, expeditious service. Big disappointment.

Great Service - good food - pretty location

By CJBCambridge |

Walking the Wharf, we decided it was time for a little Italian fare. The Lasagna was Really Good! As was the service. My granddaughter said the "Shirley Temple" served was the best she's ever had! The kind waiter made her feel very special, and even brought her a second Shirley Temple to top off her evening. They had just put out their Holiday decorations (pretty winter scene with Santa, snowmen, etc) which added to the festive atmosphere of a first time visit for this Little Wisconsin girl to The famed Wharf! Very attentive service, combined with excellent food! We hope to some day return!

Beautiful ocean front setting with views of the sea lions!

By Carrie P |

The setting is perfect! Watched the sea lions on Pier 39 and had a beautiful sunset. Meals were delicious and priced appropriately for the quality of the food and the setting. I thoroughly enjoyed clam chowder! The crab cakes appetizer was also delicious!

Just don’t

By EWTG1 |

This spot is designed to get you in (by a quality looking entrance), feed you as quickly as possible, part you from your money clean the table and look for the next mark. We went for the set menu. I ordered a beer to start and our starters arrived before the beer. This theme was continued when our main arrived before our starter was finished. The food was bland and our returned mains when served were cool. Best thing was the Tiramisu dessert. At Pier 39 you sort of expect tourist quality food but there are better choices.

Low quality food

By Petter G |

Nice location, but the food is not very good. Bread, pasta or salad, everything taste cheep. Of course it is tourist area, but what about some pride?

Great food. Good atmosphere.

By April Adams |

Our family is hosting an Italian exchange student and we have tried multiple Italian restaurants. This one hit the spot. She claimed this was the best Italian food she’d had in America. I enjoyed the restaurant ambiance & the pizza was pretty good.

Ok but not special

By Barbara A |

Had a great table here right in the corner with views over Alcatraz , the bridge and the seals. The menu is nothing special but the food was ok. Service again ok but not as friendly as we had found other places. We had gone on the recommendation of one of the bus guides, but should have looked it up before we went. There had been a party of tourists in who were just leaving so they gave us all their left over bottles of wine, so that was good...well until tasted.

Excellent food and service

By Gonzalo M |

When we first arrive to the restaurant the hostess was very kind with us and he made us fell very welcome, we only wait 5 minutes and because of the COVID-19 everything is fine we feel comfortable with all the sanitizing and social distancing protocols, the food and the drinks were excellent, we order a fruta di mare spaghetti and it was very good we enjoy it very much, is very good located, the view it’s amazing, also the waiter make us feel very welcome and he give us a very good service, we have a wonderful time I recommend a lot this restaurant the seafood and pastas are excellent.

Good food and good service

Great food. Great service. Complimentary picture. Great view from our table, sea lions weee visible. We had the pesto pizza and it was delicious.

A taste of Italy by the Bay

By Taylor B |

I guess you might expect to find a lot of good Italian restaurants in San Francisco, the town that Joe DiMaggio made famous. Since 1936, when DiMaggio became a legendary figure in his New York Yankees uniform, Swiss Louis Italian Restaurant began established its own legend with its authentic Italian cuisine and fresh California seafood. Located at space 160 on the upper level of Pier 39. it offers a taste of Italy by San Francisco Bay. Open from 11 to 9 Sunday through Thursday and 11 to 10 on Friday and Saturday, Swiss Louis specializes in garlic roasted Dungeness crab cakes, classic chicken parmigiana and classic linguine with clams. It also offers waterfront views, a bar with a view and a heated outdoor patio. I started with San Francisco sourdough bread, a prawn cocktail with cocktail sauce and horseradish, a bowl of New England clam chowder and Caesar Salad with croutons, parmigiana cheese and Caesar dressing served over fresh Romaine lettuce. For my entree, I chose fish and chips with hand-dipped and beer battered whitefish served with French fries and tartar sauce with a side of spaghetti with meat sauce and sauteed vegetables. For dessert, I opted for creme caramel and creamy flan, a sweet and delicious ending to a wonderful meal. Did I have enough to eat? Were the portions more than adequate? Did Joe D. wear No. 5?

Expensive but good food and location

By Sarah |

We were greeted immediately upon entering and sat at a table right at the window where we could see the sea lions. Great location. The menu had some great choices and our server was quick to greet us and get our order. I ordered the pesto linguine with shrimp added, my mom ordered the chicken parmesan, and my sister ordered a pizza. The food was brought quickly and was hot. The prices were moderate, although adding shrimp was rather expensive for the amount of shrimp that was added. Additionally, bread was not included. It was on the menu only as an appetizer rather than being included with the meal...a piece of bread was not even served with the pasta. That was rather disappointing. Also, we could not have the check split and an additional 6.5% was already added as a 'tax' above the actual state sales tax. This meal was very expensive considering that it wasn't fine dining.

Waste of money

By TLDWeirton |

Had dinner with my daughter, what a waste. Don't be fooled by the expensive menu and decor into thinking it has great food, big mistake. My daughter ordered fettucine alfredo with chicken and you could tell the chicken was frozen chunks, the size of dimes, microwaved and added in. I ordered a margherita pizza and it was no better. Maybe I shouldn't be so harsh, other meals being served looked decent, but I didn't taste them! Very overpriced, nice view, good service, you decide. Should have known better than to dine on the tourist trap Pier 39, but it was late and we were hungry.

It's still expensive

By lilix1966 |

Located on Pier 39 where all tourists wander. This restaurant is well placed to see the bay and sea lions lounging on the pontoons. The menu is very provided and expensive dishes I find.otherwise it's not bad

Great views and excellent food

By Jan743 |

I've eaten here before and have always found the food to be well made and delicious. Today I had a pasta dish and my husband had a shrimp dish, along with a bowl of clam chowder. All three dishes were delicious. Our server was friendly and attentive. In addition, the restaurant has a great location on Pier 39 with views of Alcatraz and the sea and ships on the Bay.

Reasonable food and beer !

By ANDY K |

This is a reasonable bar serving pub food such as pizza and pasta at reasonable prices. The pizzas are quite big so it is easy to share. You can also enjoy a good beer selection and I had the 3 flowers which was very good.

Great food and nice views

By TASunde |

Great food and nice views. A few vegan options and very helpful getting it right. The bay views make for nice ambience.

Mediocre food with a great view

By Alex W |

The food was overall average for Italian. If Olive Garden is your idea of Italian this is a good fit but if you grew up knowing better than I’m sure there are better Italian restaurants in the city. However, the view of the sunset next to the Golden Gate Bridge was absolutely incredible.

Linguini in dishwater

By jonochristie |

Truly terrible! 4 of us had the same Linguini with clams. It tasted like dishwater and 2 of us had bad clams as well. Even though we returned the dish we were all worried we would get food poisoning which thankfully we didn’t. The most extraordinary thing was that when we complained the manager said he had no say over the food and no one was in charge of the kitchen! It felt like a cynical tourist trap. Looked inviting but all front and no concern about return visits. Truly awful!

Nice lunch at the bar

By 659Colin1212 |

Fantastic View, Great Food

By johnjphillips7 |

We went on a Monday night at 5 pm. We got a table by the window that allowed us to watch the sea lions on Pier 39. We started with a cold Bud Light and a nice glass of wine. The fish and chips was very good. The fish was flavorful and crispy. The salmon was very flavorful as well. Che was great. He was very attentive while also allowing us to have a leisurely dinner without feeling rushed.

Upscale on the Pier

By RVIDI |

My family and I had lunch at Swiss Louis. We were treated to a table over looking the bay. Beautiful view. This is not a place to go if you are on a budget but the food and service matched the price of the meal. Our waiter, Alex, was fantastic. He was always there when we needed him and he even took our picture for us. All of our meals were excellent. I had the baked lasagna. Huge portion. My wife had a pizza. I do not remember the rest of the meals but everyone thoroughly enjoyed them. Swiss Louis has a pretty good wine list. My son and I shared a bottle of Silver Oak which I thought was appropiately priced. They have a full bar to quench anyone's thirst. Again, if you are looking to get by on the cheap (hard to do on Pier 39), this is definitely not the place to stop. However, if you want a good Italian meal with good service, this is a wonderful place to try.

Great quality food and service!

By 137kristinah |

if you are a seafood lover, Pier 39 is paradise. But if you are allergic to seafood it can be a nightmare. My friends and I selected this in order for me to be able to have options and it was a great selection! The amount of food served was enough (not too much, not a small plate). The quality of the food was i credible and add to that a great service. We were happy and satisfied with the whole experience. Definitely a place to recommend and return.

Nice but average

By Hospitailty101 |

After having a good walk around Fisherman’s Warf we found this restaurant and decided to dine as it offered great views and the menu wasn’t filled with fried food! We were determined to try a clam chowder which was on offer , we also had the a Chicken Marsala which was served with spaghetti, both dishes were ok but not served hot . The cocktails were great as was the service and views.

Excellent food and good service

Ate here on my first night in San Francisco and it didn’t disappoint. The seafood pasta was truly delicious and the wine accompaniment was perfect. Nice view as well. Would definitely recommend!

Enjoyable

By I2838DFkenw |

Walked into this restaurant without a booking and was welcomed by the reception crew. The restaurant buzzing and a waiter Sophie all the way from Dublin was excellent. We were catching up with friends and had a lot to talk about. No problem for Sophie when we did order the food came quickly. It was enjoyable and good quality had a great night and the price was reasonable.

Food & Views

By Dr. JB |

My wife and I were walking around Pier 39 looking for a restaurant for dinner and came across this place. The restaurant serves Italian and seafood dishes. I had Fish and Chips, and my wife had Crab Enchiladas. The dishes were wonderful and flavorful! The appetizer (Fried Mozzarella Sticks) was good. The atmosphere was classy and elegant. The waiter (Fernando) and assistant waiter (José) were friendly and helpful. We sat near the window facing the San Francisco Bay, which was important to my wife. The views were amazing!

Food ok

By Katie B |

The food was ok and pricing not too bad! However I wasn’t impressed when the waitress pointed out we hadn’t tipped her, despite the fact she had just spilt grease all down my husbands brand new coat that was nearly $300!! When we pointed out to her that was our reason she just said sorry. She knew what she had done as we asked for things to help try and lift it.

Undercooked food w/photo

By Scott B |

I had suspicions when everywhere was packed and here was not. Got the fisherman’s platter. Calamari, vegetables were way undercooked. Calamari was so undercooked that the breading was mushy yet. See pic. The whitefish was so overcooked that it was bone dry. My friends pasta didn’t look appealing either. Only positive was the service was great.

Great food service and view

By dfw9706 |

It is worth the walk to the end of Pier 39, even if you have to elbow yourself through the tourist crowd. Food was perfectly cooked. Attentive and friendly waiter. Watch the Cargo ships float by, which make Alcatraz disappear for a short while. Opt for a table at the window

Great location, poor quality food and service

By Geoff S |

Went here with my wife for a late lunch. Very good location, but disappointing service and food, which was grossly overpriced. The server forgot to bring a beer and needed reminding, had to repeat our order to her several times. No finger bowl was provided for my wife's starter whch required the partial shelling of prawns. Our main courses were brought to the table 2 minutes after our starter and the server was surprised we were not ready to eat it. When they were brought back later, my main course of Linguine with mussels was swimming in a watery broth resulting in very soft pasta. Had to send it back. Parmesan cheese was not offered but had to be requested and it was not the flavour of parmesan, more like cheddar!! We were sitting near the swing doors of the kitchen and could not fail to notice the fillth and food debris on the kitchen floor. I would certainly not recommend this restaurant. It was one of the worst Italian meals we've had and we've eaten in italian restaurants world wide. To pay $120 plus taxes for two mediocre courses, a bottle of wine and a beer, with substandard service was disgraceful. Avoid this restaurant.

Good seafood restaurant.

By ulten s |

Ok we enjoyed the place is crowded at rush hour but the Service is the same efficient, we spent an evening in company with a typical appetizer of the area as the clam soup has little to do with Italy but is always very good. Excellent dish with shrimp tails oysters and moscardini, very good and plentiful even well prepared lobster, great environment with panoramic views and average prices.

Staff need training

By Lesley M |

My partner and I today had a very expensive seafood lunch. We were happy to pay the price as this was our last day in the US before heading home to Australia. However the service left much to be desired. The main course of lobster arrived well before we had finished our appetiser. When we expressed our dismay the waiter offered to “put under the warmer”. That would have turned it to rubber! The meal was given to someone else but a second lobster dish was brought to our table a few minutes later. It was not that they were trying to rush us as there were very few people in the restaurant. Clearly both the chef and the waiter need some training.

More can be done

By MariellaVarese |

You can do more for this place in a great location, a bit pretentious but where they forget to bring bread, the pasta is not well drained and still has cooking water in it and where the Margherita has garlic in the sauce.

The BEST Steamed Clams

By Maree |

Have the Steamed Clams Bordeau. Seriously, you will eat every bit and have to resist licking the bowl. Take the garlic bread too, the savoury sauce marries perfectly with the buttery crunch and you will need it to sop up the sauce. I paired it with a "Brew Free or Die" beer which works well.

Great view whilst dining

By Owlincallington |

We dined at Swiss Louis whilst visiting Pier 39 in San Francisco. Dining out in San Francisco is not the cheapest, one reason is that you get taxed twice! The food in this restaurant was fine, we chose a pepperoni pizza and baked Lasagne. For dessert we chose Cannoli although they looked good but I thought were disappointing. We sat by a window overlooking the Sea lions and The Golden Gate Bridge.

Trudie

By Trudie L |

Was advertised on the board that it wasnHappy Hour..asked if we could sit at a table which they said was fine..ordered chips and garlic bread as well as several drinks whilst watching the sunset..asked the waiter several times if Happy Hour still valid and he replied that as long as sign out then yes..upon receiving the bill had been charged full price.. when questioned was told that we were seated in the wrong place for Happy Hour and that did not apply and they were not prepared to reimburse the difference so Patrons BEWARE!!!

Food overpriced, subpar, but with good view

By theo_loing |

The restaurant has good views of the pier and golden gate bridge but the food is overpriced for the quality that you get. A dish of pasta will cost you around US$25 while a large bottle of still water comes at US$6.50. My pasta had sauce that was too watered down and the seafood was so-so when its location is supposed to be known for fresh seafood. The service was good though. Come here for tea to be safe or if you just want a good view, unless you are willing to splurge on food that has average quality.

Don't go, awful.

By Margemet |

Horrible experience. Lasagne was terrible. Had to return it as was cold, guessing it was chef who brought another out for us saying he prided himself on the quality but again was cold at the thickest part. Say that as it had no substance to it, was literally lasagne sheets with just a very thin watery sauce, so on the plate there was a thicker bit then the rest had flopped into a single layer. Tasted & looked awful. Asked for water and not realising could get free jugs of water was charged for a bottle. Not very friendly to tourist customers, maybe nicer to other Americans. While waiting for food saw a waiter wiping crumbs and mess off the table (onto the floor & chairs), and then then reset the table wiping the side plates with the same cloth. My husband and I were both up during the night with stomach problems which even lasted the first few days into our cruise. Don't go, there are plenty better places to get a decent meal especially for the prices & service here. Just awful, worst meal of the fortnight.

Fresh fish

By Diego |

Italian American restaurant, so dishes a bit revised, but the fish is fresh and well cooked. I count above average, beautiful location.

Superb sea food

By Gerhard M |

During you our visit on Pier 39 we used the opportunity for having lunch in this restaurant. The sea food is excellent and service is very friendly. A good option for having a break during site seeing in San Francisco.

The views are great. The food not so much.

By jlh20152015 |

The position of this restaurant was superb overlooking the pier with sea lions and pelicans. The staff were friendly and helpful BUT the food was really disappointing. The prawn cocktail was poor- 4 shrimps and a lot of lettuce. The crab enchiladas were incredibly salty.

Nice food and good view

By Kathryn_Gla |

We weren't sure where to go for dinner so headed to pier 39 and after looking at the menu decided to try Swiss Louis. We were there about 8.30pm so the restaurant was busy but most tables were finishing their main course. We were lucky enough to get a window table with a view of the Golden Gate bridge (which surprisingly iant lit up at night). The service was good and the food was nice. I ordered Salmon which was delicious and my husband had fish and chips.

Hammer restaurant 👍🏻

The ambience was very nice you could look the sea lions very good from the window and also otherwise its top view and inside was. Everything nicely decorated with pictures and so on... I liked the food so much. I haven’t eaten so great in a long time and the staff were also very nice.👍🏻 (Adrian 🔛🔝)

We made a reservation for lunch. Very nice place and very nice staff. For an Italian restaurant it is a long way from Italian cuisine but the dishes are really great Lobster Recommendation.

Romantic restaurant

By Muffarah M |

This restaurant is at the end of the pier on the second floor, past all the knicknacks and riff raff, and it feels like you have entered a magical place. It is decorated elegantly and tastefully and has magnificent views of the Bay in huge picture windows. The staff is what makes this restaurant top notch. Their level of service is unrivaled and has legendary proportions. They welcome you warmly and graciously, dont blink an eye if you are bedraggled (which as a tourist you most assuredly are you are by nightfall) and try to make you as comfortable as if you were in a palace. They think of every need to make you comfortable, they even carry around portable phone chargers in their pockets to lend. The food is spectacular and the service is to die for. The tiramisu is like no other I have ever eaten, like a slice of heaven. No wonder this restaurant has been around since 1936, they know how to do it right.

Go for the View

We stopped here for a glass of wine and appetizers at the bar. Great location and the view is amazing. Food was okay. Calamari was chewy so we didn’t eat much of it. Wine was great. Not sure if we would go back, for the price vs quality of what we received.

Great beers and soup bowls and service

Walking by and stopped for drinks and two soup bowl specials. They were great tasting, beer choices were awesome. The service was great too. Definitely would highly recommend.

Delicious

We tried a delicious pasta! The staff is very good and dedicated! The view is, in turn, wonderful! We were able to gaze at the pier and the giant wheel as we dined.

Keep trying! You guys will get there! Lunch overlooking the sea lions!

Everywhere was packed in Pier 39. We actually intended to have lunch in Bubba Gump Shrimp Co but there was a 45-minute waitlist. So we decided to try it here. We asked for a table by the window with a view and got it! We were delighted to have a view of the Marina and surprised to see the sea lions which we had been trying to find! We ordered the seafood platter. oysters, crab cakes and two clam chowders. The oysters were on the small side and didn't have much flavour. Together with a water, an orange juice and two IPA's our bill was $142 before tip. Everything tasted fine. I only wished something 'wowed' us and made it a memorable experience. A little on the pricey side but the sea lions made up for it.

Coke tastes like chlorine

By NorthStar32677117738 |

The Spaghetti were tasty, but the coke tasted like chlorine. We were offered water free of charge, and the waiter was very friendly. Due to the restaurant being located on a pier, some of the windows had stains of bird poop on the outside.

My Last Meal in San Francisco

By Steve D |

Visited Pier 39 on my last day in San Francisco, and went here on spec for lunch. Was treated to great views from a table in the corner - sea lions, harbour, Golden Gate in the background, marina in the foreground. The service was excellent, as was the wine and beer. The food was pretty standard San Francisco fare, with the stand outs for me being the (waitress recommended) crab cakes and the sourdough garlic bread. After lunch, a couple of beers at the bar allowed me to soak in the general area one last time. I'd go there again.

Disapointed

By Walter Feria |

Nice place with view to the river. The restaurant was full but the personnel managed very well. The food was average. I ordered the Fisherman Sea Platter for about $32 and it was all fried food. The fish, shrimps, and calamari were breaded and fried. I could buy those at a less expensive cafeteria and would taste the same. My family, six in total, didn’t like their plates neither. I am sorry for them, but this is the truth.

Good food with great view

While the food here was not necessarily the best, it was good. I had their seafood platter, which while it had lots of seafood, also had too much batter. The big win here is that you get a table next to the window and have an excellent harbour view.

Fabulous food with a view

By ladyvalkyrie22 |

I was drawn to this place both equally because of the delicious smell of the food and because it's tucked away in a quiet corner of the upper level of Pier 39 and has large picture windows which overlook San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz and the sea lions on the little wooden platforms by the pier. The choice of food is mostly Italian (ie pizza and pasta dishes in various varieties) and seafood, including shrimp, crab, crab cakes and lobster. There isn't a huge choice but if you like these types of food there is definitely enough to find something you like. I had a spicy tomato pasta with shrimp and it was absolutely delicious, the portion size was generous for the money and considering it was very high quality food, and I was too full for a dessert. There are a number of vegetarian options including pizza, pasta and salads. There is a nice choice of wine too. There are a good number of tables with a view, and it really is amazing to look out at the sunset over San Francisco Bay while eating dinner. I deliberately took my time over it and nobody rushed me, in fact that staff were very attentive and re-filled my iced water without being asked while I was finishing my glass of wine. Sadly I can't remember the name of my waiter but he was polite, pleasant and efficient. The staff worked with a smile and seemed to enjoy working there. It was fairly quiet the day I was there, but I prefer it that way, and the ambience was relaxed and comfortable. I would recommend it and would return myself if I find myself back in San Francisco.

Good view but not that good food

By Summer620 |

We came SF to visit our daughter. We were in pier 39 and wanted try some good food. This place was not our first choice. Since there was no waiting, we decided to give it a try. The view is definitely good. But I can not there same for the food. Especially the garlic bread was very disappointed.

Lights and shadows

The restaurant - located at San Francisco's historic Pier 39 - looks good with nice views of the harbor and the city, the food is good but the service is hurried and the environment noisy and not relaxing.

Great Italian Food!!!

By newyorkshelby |

All I can say is as good if not better than Carmine's NY!!! Just wish bread was included.the seafood was fresh and delicious. The chicken cutlet parm was so tender you could cut it with your fork.
